- 0:00SPEAKER_01: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Shining at the end of every day.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Just a dream.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to Of Mice in Main Street, man.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I am Tristan.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And I am Sean.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Ah, Mr.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: D23 himself.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: You'll betcha.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, I'm Disney tired now.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, and there's no there's nothing like a Disney tired either, man.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: That is a serious tired.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: And and with a smaller park to deal with getting around in for the first three days.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: So it's like it's saying something when you can come out of Disneyland, Disney tired.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm super excited to um hear about that trip.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And I know you're gonna do a recap here we will soon.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: So that's exciting.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: We just we just couldn't pull it to there was no time while we were there.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: No time, I say.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: It was it was sun up to sundown and beyond.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I can't wait to hear that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Full recap.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be great.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so so Kimberly and Jackie and I will join me for uh what this was actually like kind of perspective on on D23.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: And then we'll also like record an episode about Kimberly going to Disneyland for the first time.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: That's very exciting.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I cannot wait to hear those.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: But today we're gonna kind of react to the D23 announcements, and we have two different perspectives playing here.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: You were there, I was, and I was in the room where it happened, as Carrollton would say.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: You were, and I was here hanging out with the family, but also had it playing on my phone so I could keep up with uh with everything.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And so it's it's interesting to have those uh two different uh you know uh perspectives.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Um so let me kind of get your general, just in a general sense, you know, what did you think being in the room is certainly more exciting than watching it the live stream?
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But I I gotta know, like, you know, what was it like in the room?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: It it was really cool.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: You know, it had been a while since I had been to a D23.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: I we do Jackie and I went to destination D23, I guess, back in back in last year, right?
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: As a matter of fact, in Florida, and that was really cool.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I think we're kind of excited to do another one of those at some point, but uh, you know, just to be around all of those Disney fans, yeah, some of whom I just like to grumble.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I've seen a lot of grumbling on on you know Facebook and social about this and this and this and this.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: But oh my god, I was I thought the Honda Center was just really cool, you know.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: I had I last year was the first time, or two years ago was the first time in the Honda Center, and it really does elevate the experience over just the Anaheim Arena, and I personally thought Disney did a really good job of getting people back and forth.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Um, I there's probably people out there that would disagree, but you know, for the logistics of it, you know, I thought they did it, I thought they did a pretty decent job.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And yeah, just the energy in that room when when they say things like they were saying at the end of the parks thing, just yeah, it's it's insane.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: You've got thousands of people who are screaming and cheering, and you know, it's just it's so cool.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Um and you know, they trotted out stars left, right, and center.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: And oh my god, yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Blend close, come on.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: When that happened, it was like I've I'm sorry, what?
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, they revealed her facing upstage, of course.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Um well, and I guess the only big epic fail was that was the was the frozen three with poor Adena uh Idina and uh and Kristen, because man, but they they went like troopers and just kept you know figured it out and kept on going.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: But well, even Mr.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Neil Patrick Harris had an issue in his opening number as well.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So yeah, so it's gonna happen.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: It's live, but man, yeah, it was it was pretty bonkers.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: And when Glenn Close said they're gonna work on my ride, I was like, Oh, we talked about our dream ride.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: I was like, please go back and reference our our uh gruela ride because I think it would kick some butts.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I think so too.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, we'll kind of get into our you know, five things that we you know uh kind of took away from it.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: So the vibe in the room, you was you know, obviously very exciting.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Your seats were great.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um and they worked.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Which I do I do get to chalk up to being a charter member because man, that was so nice to just go in a day early, choose our seats, and and yeah, the whole idea of having the same seats each night at the Honda Center, great.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it seemed like that worked out really well.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I have to wonder, you know, the vibe uh at home, and for those of us that were just kind of online and trying to figure it out, it was kind of like okay, all right, cool.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Like for the announcements themselves, the entertainment aspect, I really did love this the talk show kind of format that Neil Patrick took.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I liked the number a lot, and I thought it was very cool.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: The guest appearances were great.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Um and it's a good thing they had all that, I think.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: And we'll talk about it.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: But here's like so you can't announce villains land every year, you just can't.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: No, you can't, and I feel like they did a good, you know, uh Disney fan service by at least giving us names of things, and we're gonna go through this list.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I I've been seeing the chat or online too that they're like this could have been an email.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, look, was it the most overwhelming D23 ever?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Probably not.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Was I underwhelmed?
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Not really.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I was pretty entertained.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I think it's like, what did these people want?
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Well, and it goes back to what I was saying before: Disney people can't just enjoy anything, and like I don't know, I think there was nothing that blew my mind, but there was plenty.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: And here's there was some cool stuff, yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: It fun it and I don't know what it was like in the room, but even watching the stream, it felt fun, it felt well paced, and it was like what I really loved was the opening number was so funny because it was like Disney being like, We hear what you say online, we know all the criticisms, and here they are all in an opening number.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I thought the deep cut references to Disney fandom really had me smiling, like from ear to ear.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: And I that was such a great way to start because it was like Disney being like, Yeah, yeah, we know, we know.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Like the whole the whole hat box ghost roly crump would never moment.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Oh right, yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, yes.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of my general reaction to it.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Um but in the room, it seemed like the excitement was like palpable.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: It I it was for me anyway.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, and and yeah, you've got 10, 12,000 people in there just you know, super excited about what's being said and and you know, and who they're bringing out to say it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: And Neil was a great host for the parks thing.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: And so, so yeah, we'll discuss some details, but I you know, Jackie was like, I don't need know that we need to go to the next D23.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Actually, she gave me permission.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: She was like, I'm not going to go to the next one.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: But she left the door open that I could.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Now that's a good door.
- 8:25unknown: Right.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: It's a nice door.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: It is a nice door.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Well, because you were there, I'm gonna let you kick us off here, sir.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: What what you got on your list?
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: All right, because we each did five, right?
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: And I think I think it will surprise you probably, and I'm sure I'll go, oh, I forgot.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: I forgot that got announced.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Um I'm kicking it off with Disco Yeti.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I am too, but we yeah.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, only Disney, only Disney would what first of all acknowledge and then say disco yeti, and then bring out Gloria Gaynor to sing and survive on a throne.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: It was so perfect.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Now, I did expect maybe a little bit of lyric change up or something, and that didn't happen.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: But still, it was Gloria Gaynor, and they just they leaned into Disco Yeti, and I go, I now I I think we're all curious as to what you know, because they told us they were gonna have to basically tear down the mountain to make this work.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: And I go, did they figure out a way to do it without tearing the mountain down, or are they gonna tear down the mountain?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Well, I think they might have figured it out, but I have a theory on because they didn't really give like a a solid timeline on that, and I have a theory that as soon as they open tropical Americas, and they're like, okay, now everyone's going over there.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: We can get because if they got rid of that before that, which who knows what Disney, you never know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: No, you're absolutely right.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: That park would be nothing.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Like, there's not a lot going on.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: You are you are absolutely correct.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It it can't happen until Encanto and Indiana Jones are open.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I and once that happens, you can take it down for several months and refurbish it.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I have a feeling it's gonna be huge refurbishment, but uh, yes, I had this on my list as well.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Were you done speaking?
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to just like barrel through it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it was just it was, you know, to go, oh my god, they're finally gonna fix this thing.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: And there's people like, well, it shouldn't have been broken in the first place, it's been broken for 20 years.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: It's like, don't you think that's a bit of an embarrassment to them that they did it and they couldn't figure it out, and so they had to put a strobe light on it?
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: It's like, let's give people some credit here.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: They would have fixed it if they could have figured it out.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Something happened that they didn't foresee.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: They had to shut it down, right?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: They just had to do what they had to do.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Like, but here's how I know it was a wild night when one of the biggest announcements was essentially, hey guys, we're fixing something that's been broken for a while.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Are you excited?
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: And it makes me laugh so hard because like that has been such a running joke amongst Disney fans for years.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: So finally seeing Disney um you know commit to like restoring it to its full effect is like super exciting for me because I do love that attraction.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: And and you know what though, to their credit, and this is where people are not giving them enough credit, is it's it's it's like a real tangible thing.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: They're not announcing a new land that's a blue sky or like a new attraction, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: This is just being like, look, we know you love this, let us make it better.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's Disney.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Like, I love that.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: I was very excited about that.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: So all right, so yeah, so what that was also your number five?
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: It was.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: So that's all right.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: All right, call your bookie.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Um, so my number four is Imagineering Story Two.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, I cannot.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: The second season, and I will tell you because we did uh we did go to the World Builders Forum, which was amazing.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: It was amazing.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: The show is amazing.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Buy stock in Kleenex before you watch it, because there are some moments in that thing that will just I can't wait.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: You will you will be a gusher.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And oh, and one thing I did learn at that at that uh at that panel, the guy the guy who was from Disney animation, who uh who was responsible for Zootopia.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: What the heck is his name?
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Brandon?
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Brendan?
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Brent uh Stanley?
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: I don't remember, but he admitted that he is an ugly crier.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: And and uh I I sort of felt like he is he is our brother in tears because he was talking about how like the first time he like went in and saw the Zootopia land in in Shanghai and was just he was like, I I ugly cried for five minutes, and I was like, Oh, nice, you're a guy after my own heart.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: So that'll be me when I see Arendelle, like for the first time, I'll be like, oh god.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Well, and and that honestly, that section with Jennifer Lee is that is that is waterworks territory.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: That's what I hear, yeah.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: The whole story, the everything that watch world builders Thursday morning at 1 a.m.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: when it drops.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Wait, yeah, I cannot wait.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Uh Lou Leslie tomorrow.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: That's yeah.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Lou did a great today.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Today, today.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Uh Lou did a great interview with uh Leslie IWorks that's just incredible.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Um, that I highly recommend everybody go listen to because it's it's really something.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: So that so that was my number four was Imagineering Story Two.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: So my number four, which is a little bit of a lumangello here, but uh I entitled this one, I guess we have names for stuff now question mark.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Um well we do.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I've even committed them to memory.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: So this might be uh it's a ridiculous entry, but names do matter.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And I I think you know, after we call things cars land for long enough, or the new Indiana Jones ride, or what the conto attraction, whatever.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: I think having solid names is so important, and I love Indiana Jones and the myth of the jade serpent.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I think that's a great name.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Very cool Ridge Run Rally is that cards, right?
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: I believe.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Um, yes, it's just fun to say Ridge Run Rally, Ridge Run Rally, right?
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: And Miss Friddle sounds like something along.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding?
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: That's great, right?
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: It also sounds like something Scooby-Doo would say.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: He's like Ridge Run Rally Round Run, Ridge Round Rally, yes, absolutely.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: And you know what I love about that is it makes these projects feel start to feel like real, and instead of things that we're just like kind of like sitting on some PowerPoint and imagineering to people use PowerPoint anymore?
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: That's a I'm pretty sure they do.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey, I'll tell you the kids are using PowerPoint.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Are they just out uh out in out in New Mexico, at least once a summer, they throw a PowerPoint party.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've heard about these PowerPoints, yes, and like come in and give a PowerPoint on something usually ridiculous, sometimes not, but okay, but uh, but so yes, I digress.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: I ran down a I ran down a spoke.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: You were saying sorry, but uh yeah, I just think having names for things is fun, and so that was on my list because I always like to have names for things.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: It's a weird thing, but I'm like, I want to know what to call it.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Jackie did say that we should give the Le Womp Womp Award to Villains Land, but yeah, but it was I you know it was really pretty.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, they you know, they came out and they were like, all right, we're we're gonna give you the name, and it's villains land.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: They're like sometimes simple as that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: And I go, I get it.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, if they'd turned it into a fifth gate, they would have had to call it something else.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: But well, yeah, and I think Villains Land, honestly, it do wouldn't matter what they named it at this point.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: That's what people are gonna call it because that's what we've been calling it for two years.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And I think they just real because I mean, as people still call it Star Wars Land.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, your average park goer does not know Galaxy's Edge.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: They go, Where's Star Wars Land?
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so why why waste our time and annoy the pig?
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, boils down to just let them call it villains land, and we'll all call it villains land, and we'll know exactly what we're talking about.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: And we're all gonna love it, and that's the end of it, you know.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: And it's gonna have three attractions.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, here is a small side conversation.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because Jackie and I are in disagreement here.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, clearly the maleficent coaster will be cool.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: I think that's I think that's cool.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I feel like whatever this this like boat ride magic mirror in the dungeon of the evil queen's castle, yeah, I feel like this is gonna be like the rise of the resistance that nobody nobody is expecting.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, what is that?
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And suddenly it's gonna turn into this amazing attraction.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I like your optimism.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: I might be with Jackie, depending on how what she was feeling.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be the Navi River journey of the water.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Well, she sort of went, she did sort of go there.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: She was like, you know, it's is it gonna be Navi?
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, well, then I guess Cruella needs to be really cool.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I don't know.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I'll be curious to see how all that goes.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: You'll probably be right.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: I was all excited about the Mary Poppins ride till I learned it was like the teacups indoors.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I know me too, dude.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Uh all right.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: So yours was we have a name, question mark.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it I guess we have names for stuff now, question mark.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number three is the whole Tomorrowland announcement.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: The place went nuts.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it felt like that on the screen.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: And and you know, it of course it's time.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: They're clearly, you know, on that sort of timeline to the 75th, which that means like three years, though.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: And I go, can they really get it done in three years?
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I know, especially with I mean, they didn't really say, you know, a whole lot, but they kind of alluded to the fact that they were just gonna add some things and like completely re-haul it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that's a right.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Well, and and I know people were like, Well, why isn't it Florida?
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, because right now they can't do that to Tomorrowland in Florida because they're tearing up the rivers of America and creating a car's land.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: And so Well, like I said this the other day.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I said, I think it's probably, and you said, Well, I said, I think they're gonna announce it, and you're like, Yeah, but they're not gonna announce it in Florida until the next one.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: And I think you're right about that.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be a 2028 thing.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And they gotta they gotta see how this one goes.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, is it like is it gonna be cool enough they kind of want to replicate it in Florida?
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I hope so.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Like for the 60th, maybe.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm thinking for the Disney World 60th.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking in 2031.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm thinking.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: So that was my number three, but was Tomorrowland.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number three is um Tropical Americas.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Just because it kind of ties into what I just said about the names, but I think we had an idea of what that was all going to be, you know.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: But when you give the details about the Indiana Jones and the myth of the chain serpent, which is great, I love that name, it fits so well in Animal Kingdom.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: But the Encanto attraction really would it they were giving us what we were hoping it would be, and from what it sounds like, man, I'm so intrigued by you know taking a tour through the house uh on the night of Antonio's gift.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: I think that's so cool.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: And I hate to like put so much pressure on tropical Americas, but man, if this is as cool as it is, that's gonna change the entire identity of that park.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: And I love that park, but it just needs this.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: And man, if this if they pull this off, it's gonna be cool.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling optimistic about it, and I just I felt much better once they gave the details.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: So tropical America's is is is high on the list right now.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Well, and let's not forget the animalitos.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, to say the animalitos, and again, people were like, oh my god, oh my god, when they put those things up on the screen.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And Jackie was like, What is what is wrong with Timon's leg?
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: It's like his leg is on backwards.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: What it really what it really is, I think, is they put a saddle on just his butt.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Which I don't know, I don't know how I feel about that.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: But but it's just fun to say animalitos.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Animalitos, it is fun to say and they should start serving that as a snack over there somehow.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: They should.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Animalitos with with queso.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: A saddleless animalito with queso.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like that.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's fine.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, so so that was your number three?
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: That was my number three.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: All right, well, my number two, we're we're coming right down to the end of that show, but man, I think I think the whole Dreamfinder thing again is Disney listening.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And Disney going, We hear you.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: We know that it's been a long damn time, and we need to refresh this attraction.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: And we're bringing back Dream Finder.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: And you know, it was so cool to see the you know the way they revealed it with the great movie ride nod.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: And I was listening to it was really cool.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: That that reveal was really interesting and really well well placed in the show, too.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I feel like right at the like you thought it was over, and then we're giving you one more.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: One more thing.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: So because I I mean, and I certainly knew the Dreamfinder, because you you didn't, right?
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: I didn't know not, nope, never did.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: But I I know about it just because of Disney lore, but yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, some of the things in there, and it's like you don't have to go back and just redo that.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: I'm ready for something new, but but to honor the history and the spirit and and bring Dreamfinder back, I I'm I'm very excited.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And I thought Neil Patrick Harris did a fun job of like revealing that.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: So he did, he did.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Um that was my number two.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: So my number two is not something necessarily, I'm cheating on this one a little bit.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: That it's not necessarily something that was revealed at the ceremony itself, but it uh it's the piston peak model that uh oh my god, like I wish I could have seen that in person, but um it looked enormous and it really gave a sense of the scale and an environment that Disney is you know building for this area.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: And we've been hearing about it for a while, but like seeing the like I don't know, I was so I was kind of skeptical about it for a hot minute.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: And then seeing the model with the mountains and the landscapes and like the the potential waterfalls, and granted, you know, just seeing the layout made it feel so real, and it made so much sense in that area that I could not make sense of it in my head until I really saw that model.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: So now I'm uh I'm a little interested because sometimes I get and I think we all feel this way, but like sometimes concept art can only do so much.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: But if you give me like a giant imaginary like model, suddenly I'm 12 years old again and super intrigued.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what I mean?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: And I will admit, I'm gonna have to go look it up online because I didn't go see it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: It was so cool.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: I had so much other stuff going on, I forgot it was over there.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: So well, go look at it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: Really cool.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I will have to look at it online.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: It's really neat.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, go look it up.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Worth it.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: All right, so I guess that brings us to our number one excitement of announcement.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: It does, which sounds like I'm not a native English speaker when I say it that way.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Um uh but so my number one, and I I'm kind of surprised by this, but it really struck an emotional chord, and it was the whole John Favreau Oswald thing.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I cannot wait for that.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: I now I have not opened, I have not opened our little pack of Oswald cards that Jackie and I each got, because as you left, they gave you they gave you a little packet of Oswald cards.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: And and I have not opened them yet.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: But just I mean to to see him talk about this project and you know, his whole passion for the 2D animation and and going out and finding some of the people who did 2D for Disney and don't get to do it anymore, and how they came on board to do this.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: And it just it's I'm like, what is this?
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: It's because he's like, it's a three-part, basically mini-series-ish.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And, you know, they filmed at Disneyland and they filmed, I think, at the studio, and I just I the uh just the emotion of it to go, how how fitting that all these years later, you know, something that I'm sure Walt Disney never even thought about, probably, in terms of bringing Oswald back into the fold.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Plus, I did not understand really how that had happened until the legend ceremony where Bob Iger actually referred to it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Because do you know the do you know the actual like story of what happened?
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Iger's the one that you know kind of got it back into it via a trade, right?
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Wasn't it trade or something?
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was the guy, it was the guy that NBC wanted for uh the the guy from ESPN.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Uh oh man, Keegan looked it up for me last night, and I don't remember what it who the guy's name, what the guy's name is, but yeah, and and Iger was like, I I always had been told that you know if somebody wants something, you gotta get something in return.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: And for him to go, you know what, Universal, you have the rights to this old Disney character that got stolen from Walt, and we want those rights back.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I and I will also say that having him be the last Disney legend on Sunday, and just I mean, the the company that we know today probably was not affected by anybody else more than Bob Iger except for Walt and Roy.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, even Eisner during his years didn't have the lasting impact that Iger acquiring Marvel and Lucas.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: And, you know, those are things that changed the company forever.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: And and to to hear everyone talk about what an incredible leader he was and led by empowerment and led with respect and led with you know everything that you would hope would be the case at Disney.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: I just he is he's a pretty awesome human.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: And if you haven't read his book, you should, because I have.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: I have too.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: I have it.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: So so that was my number one was the Oswald announcement.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Because I think for true Disney fans, that's gonna be pretty special.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so too.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: I I'm stoked about that series.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: I've been kind of following it for a little bit, so I'm I'm I'll be curious to see what they do with it.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Um my number one, no surprise here, is the Carousella Progress announcement with Brian Cranston and Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Um you know, I was not expecting that.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know, and I don't yeah, like the announcement that they were doing it and providing the new voices for the family.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: I that really got my attention.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: Um because I, you know, I wasn't sure what they were gonna do.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: I was like, are they gonna use like you know, voice actors to try to replicate?
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: But I mean, I think it's fascinating that it's going to open.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's you know, we knew it was gonna be all new, but like having those two attached to it for some reason just like makes it so real, and like I'm just still so fascinated by this entire project because I don't know, there's something really special about Disney taking one of you know Walt's original attractions and trying to move it forward while you know, obviously still paying a lot of respect to you know the the iteration, not that iteration wasn't the original, but the night early 90s version or whatever.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, casting Cranston and Curtis, man, I think that's that's so wild.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: So I'm so curious to see how this comes together.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, and I just love that carousel progress is like such a in the I don't know, because for a long time I kind of felt like I was on an island with about 20 other people, and now it just gets a lot of play these days, so I'm excited.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: It's like it's like my country bears.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: I wish I wish you a country bear carousel.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Cause I you deserve that.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: You deserve to be excited about what's happening to a classic attraction, and you know, here's hoping they don't screw it up.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: But everything that we're seeing, I think, leads us to believe that they won't screw it up.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: No, and I, you know, and I do keep thinking, keep seeing all the stuff online.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of Disney fans that are like, oh my god, what uh you know, like we didn't necessarily walk away from this one thinking, oh my god, they announced everything.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: But like I didn't also walk away disappointed.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: And for someone that was in the room, I'm assuming you didn't either.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I did not.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I was, you know, I was happy with the stuff we got.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I just, you know, I guess maybe it goes back to what Jonathan was saying about the fact that we tend to be positive on this show.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: But, you know, I'm a Disney, I'm not a Disney fan so that I can hate on the organization.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: I'm a Disney fan because I love what Disney does.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: And can they do no wrong?
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Well, no, of course not.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: They they do plenty of wrong here and there.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: But overall, overall, I go, yeah, what what did you want them to tell you that that I mean someday they probably will tell us there's gonna be a fifth gate in Florida, but that's a long ways away.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: We got a lot to do before that, right?
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: So so I mean, what other you know the whole the whole villains land certainly blew everybody's socks off, but those kind of announcements come along once in a blue moon.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Things like Disco Yeti and and Brian Cranston and Jamie Lee Curtis, those are cool things.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, even Jody Foster, which my takeaway from this, Jody Foster is tiny.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: She is that's fun out here.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: She is a short, short woman.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's funny.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: But I was like, oh, this is that's really cool.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: She's gonna be this villain in this in Hex.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that's cool.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Also, I'm I'm excited about that too.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: That movie, that and Ghost Market.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm kind of intrigued by.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, Ghost Market looks very, very cool.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing, like, I enjoyed it, and like I know there's so many annoying Disney fans that like if you say you enjoy something like, oh god, well, you should have been there in 1994.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like, well, here's the thing.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: I thought the format was fun, I thought the presentation had some cool energy, the opening number was great, and some good, surprising moments.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: And Disney, here's the thing that I I kind of took away was Disney clearly understood that the audience didn't just want like a lot of blue sky announcements, they wanted to feel like there's actual things happening.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: So, like by giving names, by giving timelines, by like the fact that you know, monsters, what where were they was it monstropolis, whatever they're calling that, um, is opening a little bit early.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Like that's right, except but not the Twitch coaster.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Not the coaster, but like and then like all of the deep cut like Disney references, I loved it.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, man.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: It was just a reminder that Disney still knows how to speak to their fans and they are listening to their fans.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: And I think that any Disney fan should look at that and be like, damn, like this is a you know, a corporation that really does pay attention to online chatter and what's going on, and are not afraid to like bring out those obscure references.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, I don't think there's there was something special, I think, about what it was.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, nothing blew me away, but there was a lot of things that got me excited, and I think that's the point.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: It is, it is the point.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: It's to go, oh my gosh, you know, here here are some more details about these things that you know are happening and we've alluded to, and you're just gonna know a little more and be excited about what's down the down the Disney road ahead.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I think it's great, man.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: I I I'm glad that you were there.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: I cannot wait to hear the recap.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be great, and um hopefully that comes in the next couple weeks.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, um, but if you're if you're not following us on socials, please go over to mice and mainstream men on Facebook, Instagram, and you can uh fight see links to our personal Instagrams and get in touch with Mr.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: McCall, who can help you plan your next Disney vacation.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: I certainly can.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: You know, and uh I'm excited for the next couple weeks.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of good stuff happening.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: But as we say on this show, each and every week you all for this
