- 0:00Speaker 1: Boocome back cafe or live folks here, live crowd here.
- 0:03Speaker 1: How's dinner? What was the big dinner at him tonight?
- 0:05Speaker 1: What's the specials? You got specials? Anybody quit the meatballs?
- 0:10Speaker 1: Anybody have meatballs? Meatballs are pretty good here. Yeah, there
- 0:13Speaker 1: you go, Paul, good job, Peo pols are good. You
- 0:15Speaker 1: don't have halibate here anymore. I didn't see that on
- 0:17Speaker 1: the menu. I used to eat that all the time.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Here, Aliban. I thought we still had it.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Maybe you do somewhere.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Maybe they hide during the fall and winter. I know
- 0:25Speaker 2: they'll be back in the spring now, I'm sure.
- 0:26Speaker 1: All right, there you go. Thanks backcourt. Your juniors are
- 0:31Speaker 1: doing a pretty good job. KKs having a really good
- 0:34Speaker 1: year taking care of the ball. Twenty four and five
- 0:37Speaker 1: assistant turnovers, fourteen steals. Boy, she made a couple of
- 0:41Speaker 1: big plays late in that Michigan game in the fourth quarter.
- 0:44Speaker 1: She's starting to get a little more confidence from three.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But that drive to the hoop that was with confidence,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and that kind of got her going a little bit.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I think everything that everything that happens that's positive
- 1:01Speaker 2: happens because you have confidence that you can do it,
- 1:04Speaker 2: you know, like I've never understood why someone who's doesn't
- 1:10Speaker 2: have confidence in themselves tries to do something that they're
- 1:14Speaker 2: not sure, you know. I remember somebody asked Diana and
- 1:19Speaker 2: I used this example with my team. Somebody asked Diana
- 1:22Speaker 2: one time, do you ever feel pressure? Because she never
- 1:26Speaker 2: lost the game that was a season ending game since
- 1:36Speaker 2: two thousand and one when we lost to Notre Dame
- 1:40Speaker 2: in Saint Louis, Okay in and the rest of the
- 1:47Speaker 2: time in those knockout games, she always figured out a
- 1:50Speaker 2: way to win. And the time they lost, Superb made
- 1:54Speaker 2: that three from the corner in Seattle and they won.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And they asked her the pressure. She said, no, I
- 2:01Speaker 2: don't feel any pressure. I know how much time I've
- 2:03Speaker 2: put on the court. I know what I've done to
- 2:06Speaker 2: get ready, and when those moments come, I'm ready for them. Now,
- 2:10Speaker 2: you get these some other players, they maybe don't put
- 2:13Speaker 2: the time in, aren't successful when they put the time in,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but they want to be that person that makes those shots,
- 2:20Speaker 2: and you know, so it's it's for KK. It's been
- 2:24Speaker 2: a yeah. I love the fact that you're taking them.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I like especially you take them at the right time
- 2:31Speaker 2: and then you knock in you know, a couple of them,
- 2:34Speaker 2: like the one the other night, because that's a confidence
- 2:37Speaker 2: builder to know that I, okay, I can do it
- 2:39Speaker 2: in practice, but I can do it in a big game,
- 2:41Speaker 2: in a big moment, not when we're up thirty, you know.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So those are confidence builders, and those prepare you for
- 2:49Speaker 2: the next time that it happens, you know. And then
- 2:52Speaker 2: the drive I think, you know, I think for women's
- 2:58Speaker 2: basketball because the game is played more below the rim. Okay,
- 3:06Speaker 2: these kids are not you know, this is the rim.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Their hands are not here. I mean stuies are, but
- 3:11Speaker 2: their hands are not here. Now they're shooting the ball
- 3:14Speaker 2: from down here a lot of times, and the ball's
- 3:16Speaker 2: got to go aways to get to the rim. So
- 3:19Speaker 2: they've got to, like Page, you really have to spend
- 3:22Speaker 2: a lot of time of how the ball like it's
- 3:24Speaker 2: almost like pool, how the ball is going to spin
- 3:26Speaker 2: off the backboard, and where you want to put it right,
- 3:29Speaker 2: and where's the defender. And that takes time. You know,
- 3:32Speaker 2: it takes time.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:33Speaker 2: When people saw Page doing it, they go, oh, she
- 3:36Speaker 2: just makes it so easy, you know, she was born
- 3:38Speaker 2: like that. They don't realize how many hours Page spending
- 3:40Speaker 2: the gym by herself practicing all those crazy shots. So
- 3:44Speaker 2: when she did one in the game, for her, that
- 3:47Speaker 2: was nothing. So KK is spending a lot of time
- 3:51Speaker 2: and it's paying off. You know, it's paying off, and
- 3:55Speaker 2: I'm happy for her.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Now.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Conversely, we saw Ashland take one of the bucket on Sunday.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and.
- 4:03Speaker 1: She's a good free throw shooter. I mean, I imagine
- 4:05Speaker 1: that's I mean, we've talked about this before. You would
- 4:07Speaker 1: like to see her do that more?
- 4:08Speaker 2: Probably? Yeah, I know, I know. I always think that
- 4:11Speaker 2: people who are good free throw shooters should try to
- 4:13Speaker 2: get to the basketball and then get to the free
- 4:17Speaker 2: throw line. So that's something that you know, we're harping on.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I think we're almost I don't think we're last, but
- 4:28Speaker 2: we can see last from the spot we're in a
- 4:32Speaker 2: Thames Per game, a Thames per game that was little
- 4:35Speaker 2: last year too. Yeah, we don't, we don't, we don't shoot.
- 4:37Speaker 2: We got, you know, a bunch of girls staying on
- 4:40Speaker 2: the three point line.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Taking sixty two. Of course, the opponent's only shot fifty nine.
- 4:44Speaker 1: That's still low, though.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I know it's awful. It's like it's like the three
- 4:48Speaker 2: point line is like that thing you put on your
- 4:51Speaker 2: lawns so your dog doesn't run out in the street.
- 4:54Speaker 2: That's how our guys are. They get their three point
- 4:56Speaker 2: line to go and they stop. I'm like what you
- 5:00Speaker 2: it gets shocked? What is it? What is it?
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's the college you gave them that.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Like you're allowed to drive one side of three point line.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I know that issue with Sarah, she does that. When
- 5:13Speaker 1: she started doing those scoops against Ohio State, maya more
- 5:16Speaker 1: immediately came to mind.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, she's got a little bit, she got a little
- 5:19Speaker 2: bit of that more stuff in there. You know. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you know it's a it's a fine line. You know,
- 5:26Speaker 2: it's a fine line. Because the hardest thing that I
- 5:31Speaker 2: that we had to do when I was coaching the
- 5:33Speaker 2: national team was when you play European teams, and if
- 5:37Speaker 2: you watch now in the NBA, the hardest thing that
- 5:39Speaker 2: we had to try to learn the national team was
- 5:43Speaker 2: when those European guards when they drive it to the basket,
- 5:47Speaker 2: they are not driving it to score. They are driving.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So you come running over to help and prevent the
- 5:54Speaker 2: score so that they can kick it for wide open three.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And in America, you know, somebody drives it, everybody runs
- 6:02Speaker 2: over like, rotate over, block that shot, take a charge whatever.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Well that's exactly what they want you to do, and
- 6:08Speaker 2: then they stop boom boom boom, and there's just three three, three,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and it drives you crazy. So we've been working a
- 6:14Speaker 2: lot on that. That's why we're getting so many open threes,
- 6:18Speaker 2: because we're doing a great job kicking them out. So
- 6:21Speaker 2: I think there's got to be maybe a and I don't.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I think we're averaging like twenty five threes a game.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Twenty yeah, something like that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, which is a good number for us because we're
- 6:34Speaker 2: I think we're averaging seventy two seventy three shots a
- 6:39Speaker 2: game and.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Now four three, just a little over twenty four.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and I want I want a third of them
- 6:45Speaker 2: to be threes. So we get seventy five shots a
- 6:47Speaker 2: game or seventy that went, twenty five of them to
- 6:49Speaker 2: be threes. Now, between Ash and Kaylee had goal.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Kaylee's not much of an outside three, right, Yet.
- 7:00Speaker 3: We are six for thirty five, the two of them
- 7:06Speaker 3: from the three point line. And then Ally's I mean
- 7:13Speaker 3: I said it, and I heard it, so I'm sure
- 7:16Speaker 3: you heard it.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, six for thirty five, So that'll get better. That'll
- 7:22Speaker 2: get better. Yeah, for sure, that's it. That'll get better.
- 7:24Speaker 1: All right, more with Geno a minute. It's you kind
- 7:26Speaker 1: of women's basketball coaches show on Learfield Live at Cafe
