Manchin, We're going to get to mister Thomas's take on that. One of
2:25
those who prevailed in his race last week for Circuit judge is rich Lindsey,
2:30
and he's going to join us a little bit later on. Plusure calls and
2:32
Texter, welcome to now this evening in Nitro a whole lot of motorcycles.
2:37
It's going to be rumbling in the town as part of the annual Run for
2:39
the Wall. Todd Taylor is a native of Chesapeake and he is the West
2:44
Virginia coordinator we're Run for the Wall, and he joins us now from somewhere
2:46
Todd, good morning, How are you. Good morning, Dave, How
2:50
are you doing today? I'm fine. Where are you right now, sir?
2:53
Right now we are on one of our stops at Robley Rex Veterans Center.
2:57
It's kind of like a veterans hospital here in Louisville in Little House.
3:00
The weather looking down there, it was a little rainy this morning, but
3:04
the skies have opened a cleared out a little bit and is about partly cloudy
3:08
right now, so we're hoping we'll chase that weather in when we get home
3:12
this evening. Now. For those who may not know, the Run for
3:14
the Wall is an annual event that begins in Ontario, California, I think,
3:20
and it started one week ago out in California. Eventually wind up Saturday
3:25
for the Wreath Lane ceremony which is at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arleings
3:29
National Cemetery. How did you personally get involved in all this back when the
3:35
rain now floods happened back in twenty seventeen or eighteen. I do believe rain
3:40
Ell Elementary is one of our schools that we raised money for and everything.
3:45
And we had a coat drive because you know, when that town got destroyed
3:49
by the flood back back in the day. The Central Route with which I'm
3:53
a member of, we raised all sorts of money and bought all sorts of
3:57
coats and pillows. We had tons of donateations come in and that's when I
4:00
got started in because they were helping our communities out now and I think it's
4:05
a very worthwhile cause, I mean, you folks are said to arrive at
4:09
five o'clock, and if I'm wronging any of this, you can let me
4:12
know. At five o'clock this evening at the Living Memorial Park in Nitro,
4:15
there's gonna be some ceremonies there, plus some opportunities for the riders I understand
4:19
to visit the West Frond and New Vietnam Memorial Wall, which is inside the
4:24
Nitro Wars Museum. So we certainly hope that that you folks get to enjoy
4:30
your time here because I imagine every stop along the way there's something different going
4:32
on, right, Yes, sir, that's correct. You know, we
4:36
almost every overpass we go through throughout the country there's at least one person or
4:43
a whole overpassed packed full of fire trucks, you know, emergency first responders,
4:46
or just people out waving flags and cheering us on as we go by.
4:51
And it's amazing. And again, this has been coming to this area
4:55
for a number of years. I know it's a Nitro in there. For
4:57
a while it was a Valley Park announce back in Nitro again just to see
5:01
the response to this. I know a couple of our sister stations ninety six
5:05
one Superstar Country k WUS and ninety eight seven of the Mountain Wild and Wonderful
5:10
Classic Rock are going to be part of the group there. I do believe
5:13
that are going to be welcoming you folks into town as your as you're out
5:16
on these rides. Todd, what what's the feedback that you get from the
5:23
public on these things? So how does it make you, folks feel when
5:25
you see all these people show up. You know, it's it's absolutely unbelievable
5:29
the outpouring of support we get, you know, we have this is a
5:33
very well organized ten day cross country run. You know, every breakfast stop,
5:39
you know, with lunch stop dinners, they're all donated to a state.
5:43
You know, people work all year round raising money for us, you
5:46
know, because our motto for the run is, you know, we ride
5:48
for those who can't. You know, we're honoring our military or fallen soldiers,
5:51
you know, and we're not all veterans. You know, some of
5:56
us are veterans, some of us are patriots, and you know they spend
6:00
their hard aren't money to see us for an hour and then we're gone,
6:03
you know, But they work all year long just to come out and show
6:05
their support to us and help us get to DC. And the planning todd
6:11
that goes into this thing. I mean, I know what goes on in
6:14
the planning, just on the local stops and as you said, every stop
6:18
along the way, and you started in Ontario, California last week and you're
6:24
going to d C. Every stop along the way. Somebody had to plan
6:30
that, and somebody had to constantly keep in contact with the folks on the
6:34
right. Are you running ahead? Are you running behind? What was the
6:36
weather situation right, because I mean you face all kinds of weather. You
6:40
mentioned it was raining in Louisville. I think for the event in Nitro,
6:43
the seeding and everything's supposed to be fine. It's supposed to be I think
6:46
storms possibly later in the night. But there's a heck of a lot that
6:49
goes into this, man, because it's a cross country thing. Yes,
6:53
you know, and you talk about the weather, you know, we actually
6:56
we got to see our first tornado the other day and Rustle Russell, Kansas.
7:00
You know, it was pretty impressive. It put us about five hours
7:03
behind, but everybody made it through and it was safe, you know.
7:06
And so but like you said, you know, we're already starting to plan
7:10
for next year. Day. I mean, it's it's a three hundred and
7:12
sixty five day process to get to logistically wise, to move four hundred plus
7:16
motorcycles across the country. Yeah, I was going to ask you how many
7:19
motorcycles are we talking about here? We're right at three hundred to three fifty
7:25
as of account this morning, motorcycles, not including our support vehicles and all
7:29
that other stuff. So you know, we're right at three hundred and three
7:31
fifty, three hundred and sixty people. And what were some of the stops
7:34
that are similar to the ones at Nitro along the way where you're going to
7:38
actually spend a little time and get to get to grab some food and whatever.
7:42
What were some of the stops were some of the places that you stopped
7:44
along the way for that amount of time. One of the memorable locations that
7:46
we actually didn't get to go to this year is Junction City, Kansas.
7:49
You know, that was where we were delayed five hours for the for the
7:54
tornado warnings and stuff. But you know, that's the home of Fort Riley,
7:57
Kansas. You know, the first informative you know, that's that's one
8:01
of the very memorable stops. You know, the whole community comes out and
8:05
for a mile before we come into town, there's people out there standing holding
8:09
flags. It's just almost like a tunnel of flags. And we get that
8:11
every every evening stop we go to. The whole community just comes out and
8:16
supports us and cheers us on. It's just I always tell it, My
8:20
running thing is, you know, it restores your faith in humanity that we
8:24
have people that actually come out and support us and cheer us on. And
8:28
you know, people just come out and donate money to our calls and you
8:33
know, give us food and everything, and it's just it's a wonderful,
8:35
wonderful feeling, and especially right now with the country is divided as it is
8:41
in an election year and and all the other things that are going on right
8:43
now. I mean, it is it is nice to see that. Again,
8:46
we're talking with Todd Taylor, who is the West Virginia coordinator for the
8:50
Run for the Wall, and again it started in Ontario, California, last
8:54
week. It's going to wrap up this weekend in DC. They're going to
8:56
roll through Nitro tonight, and Todd, I could tell you as the son
8:58
of a Vietnam veteran who died, My father died due to complications from age
9:03
and Orange, I can tell you how much we we appreciate what you folks
9:07
are doing. And and something that you said there that I think is very
9:11
important about the writers that are along the way. Some are veterans and some
9:13
are not. And that's one of the great things about supporting the military.
9:18
They were that I did not serve in the military. As I said,
9:20
my father did, gave his life in effect for this country. And and
9:26
and there are so many ways that you can support activities like this even if
9:30
you weren't a veteran. And it's it's appreciated by veterans, I'm sure.
9:33
Yes. You know, we always say we have a severe case that we
9:37
get in the allergies. Our eyes start tearing up when you know, you
9:39
see that one that one person in the middle of nowhere on an overpass just
9:43
holding a flag of saluteness as we go by. I mean, it's you
9:48
know, it's it's a very emotional ride. You know, I've seen people
9:52
break down, you know, because some of these, some of these Vietnam
9:56
veterans, you know, they weren't treated as very well when they come home.
9:58
Yeah, you know, and that is our mission is to you know,
10:01
there's some people that when they get to that when we have our picture
10:05
taking at the Lincoln Memorial, you know, we walk over to the Vietnam
10:07
Veterans Memorial and we lay them, we lay up, we lay a plaque,
10:13
you know, as a mission complete plaque. And I've seen grown men
10:16
just fall, you know, they can't do it. But our support staff,
10:20
we have chaplains that come with us, you know, and emotionally it's
10:24
just a taxing experience on some of these veterans. You know, they just
10:26
can't do it. But that's why we're all here together to support everybody and
10:31
lift them up. And you know, that's that's what we do. You
10:33
know, that's to get to get healing, you know, for the people
10:37
that didn't get them the greatest welcome when they come home. All right,
10:41
Todd, well, the best luck, safe travels. Again. You're outside
10:43
Louisville right now. You're rolling to Nitro a little bit after four or five,
10:46
So this afternoon, I know there's going to be a whole lot of
10:48
people there welcoming you man. Hats off to the City of Nitro, Mayor
10:52
Case Bolton, Joe Stevens and all those folks there for pulling this thing together
10:54
and all the others along the way across this great country of ours that have
10:58
made this thing happen. Todd, I appreciate you guys, and be safe.
11:01

11:35
is going to join us. Also, we'll be joined by rich Lindsay,
11:37
who was one of the winners in the election last year. So the bodycam
11:43
footage of the police investigation, the initial call into the complaint against now former
11:48
kenawh Antic Commission Kent Carper, was released yesterday late yesterday afternoon to the media.
11:54
And it's a it's a about a about a nine minute video and it
12:01
was first released and shown on WWK television yesterday, released under the Freedom of
12:05
Information actor FOYA as we call it in the business now. The video was
12:09
taken at Daniel Boone Park on May fifteenth of last year. And you know
12:13
the story. Police were dispatched to the park after a woman called police and
12:18
said a man since identified as Kent Carper had exposed himself to her. The
12:24
patrol officer and this is all public record. It's all in the video which
12:28
you can see. It's all over the internet. Again, kudos to WWK
12:33
for having it out here. I believe they had it out there first up.
12:35
May be wrong about that. That's the first place I saw it.
12:39
The police officer was an officer by the name of Hart Childress. And I
12:45
prefer not to get into all the details of the story, but here's the
12:48
story as was reported by WWK. The officer who responded. Officer Childress is
12:54
said to be the boyfriend of the Administration of assistant to Canawa County Commission President
13:01
Lance Wheeler. Now, again this is all part of public record. Carper
13:05
was accused of sending this administrative assistant an email asking if she was interested in
13:13
becoming a golf superintendent. Carper, of course, resigned from his commission post
13:18
just days before the main primary. He remained on the ballot, but was
13:20
defeated in the primary by Natalie Tenant. Now the Commission has to pick a
13:26
replacement for Carper. They have thirty days to do so and are taking applications.
13:30
Say, as we speak, they're hoping to pict someone at a meeting
13:31
on May thirtieth. If Commissioners Wheeler and Selango cannot agree, that a list
13:37
of names will be sent to them by the Canawa County Democrat Executive Committee.
13:43
And I'm gonna go ahead and call this one now, folks. Even though
13:48
charges it's been announced, charges will not be filed, either locally or federal
13:52
against former Commissioner Carpenter, I still don't think this story. Even though mister
13:56
Carper is not facing new charges that's already put out there, I still don't
14:01
think the story is going to be going away anytime soon, because there is
14:05
a lot, a lot to be unpacked here. From that what was released
14:11
to the media yesterday. You can go online, you can read it for
14:15
yourself. I'm not going to get into all the details. The unedited videos

17:48
It's Rich Lindsay. Good morning, sir, how are you hey?
17:49
Good morning Dave? How you doing? I'm going to find I ask you
17:52
earlier I referred to you as as judge elect. I mean, I guess
17:56
that's correct, right, I mean I think so. We had the camp
18:00
on Tuesday, and from after the provisional ballots were either accepted or not,
18:06
my lead went from ninety five to one ten. And I don't think the
18:10
I didn't stick around for the randomized checking of precints of the handcount. But
18:15
as I understand that there was no change from the handcount, so I think
18:18
you're right. I think you're using the right term. I guess there was
18:21
a lot of a lot more focus this time around. It seems to me
18:23
on a lot of the judicial races, not only here in Kanawha County,
18:26
but I know I live in Putnam County and there was a very contentious race
18:30
over there between Stours and Hoover won by the incumbent, Judge Stowers. A
18:37
lot more focus on a lot of I mean, maybe I'm incorrect, but
18:40
it seems like there's a lot more focus this year on judicial races. I
18:44
think that's right, you know, and I need to be careful as sharing
18:48
my opinions as to the reasons why that is. But I will say that,
18:51
I mean, I agree with your observation that judicial races and county races.
18:56
I think across the board there was a lot more interest. I think
19:00
it's because, in part, you know, a lot of things have already
19:03
been solved in the legislature to the extent that you know there's a super majority
19:07
there, and the constitutional offices, including the Governor's office. There's really no
19:11
question. There's a question that really as to which Republican will make it through.
19:15
But for the most part, if you're a betting person, you know
19:18
there may be some surprises in November, but it looks like we'll continue down
19:22
the same road that we've been on here for some time. So, you
19:26
know, it's interesting that you bring up the legislature because I want to talk
19:29
about that. You're former state senator. Yes, sir, what experience rich
19:34
did you pick up under the dome that you think will serve you well as
19:38
a judge? Well, it's a two I wasn't expecting that question, but
19:44
I've actually got a pretty good answer to it, I hope your the first
19:48
thing. The first thing is that you as a legislature you get accustomed to
19:52
reading statute and learning about laws that you may never have known existed. Obviously,
19:59
a big part of what a judge does across the spectrum of types of
20:02
cases and controversies is you look at different parts of the statute that as a
20:06
lawyer you may not have experience and looking at and interpreting. So I think
20:10
in that respect that prepared me. And then I think also, you know,
20:15
part of what a legislator does is they try to find a way to
20:23
resolve controversies, and judges have a very particular role in doing that. In
20:29
their court, they must apply the law as it is, but there are
20:32
also multiple and many opportunities where where a judge is not only interpreting the law
20:38
but is a arbiter depending upon the types of cases before him or her.
20:45
And so the ability to find a solution come to resolution without it going to
20:51
trial or without things good getting to a head, I think is good experience
20:56
for just about any profession, but especially for judges. We're talking with judge
21:00
elect. We've decided on that title. Richard Lindsay right now is going to
21:04
be taking this place on the as a circuit judge here in Canaan County soon.
21:08
Now, when will you officially take office? I don't believe I take
21:12
office until January. So you got nothing to do between now and then.
21:15
Right, I've got to close up my cases over at the law firm.
21:18
Let's talk about that. I mean, so what goes into that? Because
21:22
you were, as I said, you're an attorney and you got a law
21:23
firm. So what do you have to do in order to be a judge.
21:26
I mean you just got to say okay, hand off to somebody else,
21:29
or I mean, what what do you have to do? Pretty much,
21:30
I mean most of my cases already associate with a local firm since my
21:34
days in the state Senate, in order to keep my practice and keep it
21:38
going, we had to associate with another law firm to help us out while
21:41
I was in the state legislature to keep cases on track. So most of
21:45
the I'm lucky in that most of the cases I have left on my docket
21:48
as a lawyer, they're already involved in. I do have a handful of
21:52
cases that I'm going to have to tie up here before the end of the
21:56
year, and I think most of them I will be able to. Obviously
22:00
there'll be a couple that I don't. And that's what you do. You
22:03
talk to another attorney and say, hey, can you can you help mister
22:06
and missus Smith out in this case or you interested? And that usually works
22:11
out so well. That's how things were wrapped up. Now, what kind
22:14
of law did you specialize in when you were personal injury? Personal injury so
22:18
folks who were injured through no fault of their own against those big bat insurance
22:22
companies in the courtroom. But no, so that's that's the bulk of my
22:27
practice. I did do a little family law. I did a little appointment
22:33
criminal cases on the magisterial level. I had a couple on this cric at
22:36
court level too. But I'd say about eighty percent of my practice was civil,
22:40
twenty percent criminal. But Dave Alan showing five any line brought to you

23:03
Okay, So you were a candidate for state Senate and you won your race
23:07
a few years ago in eighteen and eighteen, and then you ran for re
23:10
election and you lost two and then now you ran for judge. You and
23:15
you won. Talk about the differences between running for the legislative seat that you
23:21
had and running for judge as far as the strategy goes, Well, you
23:25
know, in eighteen it was a different type of an election for me,
23:29
because I really tried to play to the base of my voters in twenty two
23:33
and twenty four and twenty two because of the redistricting of the eighth district,
23:37
we went from a portion of Kanaal and a portion of Putnam to a little
23:41
smaller portion of Kanaal, Putnam Southern Jackson Alive running all of Clay and those
23:48
rural areas weren't necessarily conducive to the party I was registered in, so I
23:56
did everything I could to try to appeal met as many Republicans as possible and
24:02
persuade. That did not work out, but I made the effort, and
24:06
I made a lot of contacts along the way, especially here in Kanall County,
24:10
that probably helped me out in this twenty four election. And so you
24:15
know, I played the same type of strategy in both twenty two and twenty
24:21
four, which is the right way to do it, I think, especially
24:23
with general elections and the primary election is the only election for judicial offices.
24:30
These are non partisan races. So not only is it good for you as
24:33
an individual to meet people who may disagree with you and persuade them, but
24:37
it's good politics to try to persuade them as well, because that's going to
24:41
be the electorate. And we found out in this cycle that I'm sure you
24:45
read us on the paper where six thousand more Republican ballots were cast in Kanak
24:49
County than Democrat ballots for this primary election. And so I think you got
24:56
to go to where the people are and you know, obviously you're honesus with
24:59
them if they're interested in what your party affiliation is, but then you have
25:03
a good conversation as to what you bring to the table. And I found
25:07
on the campaign trail that regardless of political persuasion, most people agree on,
25:12
for example, keeping politics out of the courtroom. And so that's something I
25:17
agree with as well. And so those are the types of conversations that we
25:19
had. And again it grounds you as a candidate, but should you be
25:23
elected, it makes you a better elected official to know where the people are
25:26
because thankfully in this system that people choose who their leaders are. So so
25:32
iago with rich lindsay, here, so have you started. I know that
25:34
you just had the victory a week and a day ago and you're still trying
25:37
to wrap up things you know, with the with your with your current job.
25:41
But have you started to look ahead a little bit and think, Okay,
25:44
day one, here's what I want to have you on before you start.
25:45
But if you started you started thinking about that, I mean, what
25:48
am I going to do? I've already I've already reached out to a couple
25:51
judges here in the circuit been have you been sized for the road yet?
25:55
No, I don't even want to think about that, to be honest with
25:57
you. But I've reached out to a couple of judges here in the circuit
26:02
who who I know, and asked if I could attend some closed door proceedings
26:07
just so I can get a better feel as to how they conduct those proceedings.
26:11
And it said close close hearing, not close close hearing proceedings, and
26:15
that'll be part of the process. I think that you have to go to
26:19
I've been told judge school at some point, which I'll probably go to obviously
26:23
have to judge the school, Anthony. They have to go to judge school?
26:27
Is that what they give you your gabble? I don't know what they
26:30
do. I'm hoping they don't, you know, put run me through the
26:33
gun like jumping Jackson stuff likes or yeah, well, who knows man,
26:37
I'll report on. I'll let you know when I know, reporting now from
26:41
judges School. So but we'll see you know, And of course I'm excited.
26:45
Family is excited about it, and it's an opportunity to just you know,
26:51
serve the community I love. And it's a wonderful gift that I've been
26:53
given by the voters, and I thank them for it. So, you
26:56
know, you kind of look like and I mean it's in the best possible
26:59
you kind of look like Anders from from Night Court. Anyway. You kind
27:02
of got that thing that was one of my favorite shows in the eighties,
27:03
and you kind of got that thing going on. And he was a good
27:06
judge. You brought a lot of humor to the to the proceedings. So
27:08
that's always nice. Rich. I want to give you an opportunity, as
27:11
I do anytime I have a political figure on that wins the race. I
27:15
like to give you an opportunity to say thanks to people. Well, sure,
27:18
better start with your family. Man. Well, I mean, first
27:21
I just said again, thank the voters. Thank the voters, people who've
27:23
known me, you know, my entire life. I appreciate you coming out
27:26
and supporting me and know exactly the type of person I am, and I
27:32
think my wife, as you mentioned my family, Allison, who is a
27:34
practicing physicians assistant, so she cares for patients eight to ten hours a day
27:38
after over the last several weeks. In addition to that, had to pick
27:45
up the boys and get them to their activities and sports and cook dinner while
27:48
I was out, you know, throughout the county. And so all the
27:51
candidates get splashed. No one thinks about the spouses. Candidates. Spouses do
27:56
tremendous work. The entire family runs for office when you run for office,
28:00
even the dog ran for office. Yes, absolutely. And then my the
28:03
guy who I worked with, Seth Green, SAIDs who I think you've met
28:06
or no, I sath, I'm very well. He's a he's a campaign
28:08
guy that sells paint during the day. Here's a campaign consultant at night.
28:12
So he is someone who can crunch the numbers and and and get you to
28:18
the people who you need to talk to and to where you need to go.
28:21
And I appreciate that. So I did have one text here We're not
28:25
trying to get the cart before the horse, but somebody texted and wanted to
28:29
know Attorney General next I'm not making that up legitimate text here. I'm just
28:36
happy to serve. So let's just get through that, and you know we'll
28:40
see at another date in the future. But there are no plans to run
28:42
for anything other than that deserved. The good people can all counting, all
28:47
right, Rich, I appreciate you man, thanks a lot the idea.

29:25
tonight at Buffalo Wild Wings across lanes four to nine. You place your order
29:30
and mention the group Pick of the Litter, and they're going to donate fifteen
29:33

29:37
Again tonight, only Buffalo Wild Wings in Cross Lanes from four to nine mentioned

34:22
of nineteen seventy four is getting ready for their fifty year reunion this summer.
34:25
It's August the seventeenth, to be exact. And even in this world of
34:29
Google and social media where you can seemingly find out anything about anybody at any
34:32
time, sometimes it's hard to find people. And so they ask if we
34:37
because people listen a few two three four five listen to the show, and
34:39
they ask if I would throw it out there. They're looking for classmates.

34:57

34:59
involved in my high school class reunions over the past years and I enjoy It's
35:02
not for everyone, I know, but if you're a member of the Stonewall
35:06
High class of seventy four, get in touch with Debbie either that phone number
35:08
or on Facebook. Greg Thomas is here a man. How you doing doing
35:15
well, buddy? How you strike me Gregory as a type of gad that
35:19
probably did not do a high school reunion type thing I went to. I
35:22
think I went to like my ten year did you I went to one for
35:27
my college. I actually had my twenty five year college when coming up,
35:30
But in our school, I went to Hampton Sydney, Like they usually do
35:34
a really good job with sort of letting you know about that stuff, and
35:36
they kind of didn't. Like we started texting some of my buddies and everybody's
35:38
like, I didn't even get an email about it or anything about it.
35:43
Reunions have social media in a lot of wates. Because I went to my
35:45
ten year high school reunion was off the so I break the mic. It
35:50
was off sorry, Anthony. It was off the charts. It was it
35:52
was fair. I mean, everybody can and then it just kept getting less
35:54
and less. It's not because of getting old. Everybody died. It wasn't
35:57
necessarily that. It's just people keep up now on social media who they want
36:00
to keep up with. Yeah today, So all right, so nothing about
36:05
that. I want to talk about takeaway from the election last week. Start
36:08
with the governor's race, give or take a little here. It pretty much
36:13
went as the Rex repass and Metro News Research America balls that it would look.
36:17
I think Morrissey had a Morrisey had high name ID, he had a
36:23
large core group of support that he maintained throughout the election. There his campaign
36:30
and packs collectively raised like seventeen million dollars, and so anytime someone else tried
36:37
to get up some ground on him, you know, you know, Chris
36:40
Miller, you know, started to put together a pretty good campaign and made
36:44
a big push, and as soon as he got close enough, Morrisey's pack
36:46
smacked him down. And then all of a sudden, you know, more
36:50
Capito kind of did the same thing, and you know, he started spending
36:52
his money and he got close and that outside pack came in and they smacked
36:55
him down. And you know, I just think that that core group of
37:00
support for Morrissey, and I'd actually put them together some numbers, you know.
37:06
But he Morrissey in the primary in twenty eighteen when he ran for US
37:09
Senate, he got forty eight thousand votes. In this election, he got
37:14
nearly seventy five thousand votes. No, Look, we have a lot more
37:17
Republicans there, or more people to choose from. But I just think it
37:22
goes to show you that, look, Morrisey does not have a majority of
37:25
the you know, this isn't some down of mandate. He didn't have the
37:28
majority of the Republicans. He's just got a really big core group of support
37:32
that stuck with him through this stuff, and that that was enough to push
37:37
him through. Had a text here though, waiting on you when you got
37:39
here, said, I asked Greg if a large Republican feel benefited Morrissey.
37:43
I don't believe Morrissey says a Texter would have won a heads up race against
37:46
Capito. Is there and they, of course they wont offers a new truth
37:50
for the mansion rumors will look. I think, look, Morrisey would have
37:52
had a lot harder time one on one. I mean no doubt. I
37:57
mean, look, it doesn't say he would have stuck to exactly seventy five
38:00
thousand votes he had. You know, there is sort of this anti I
38:05
don't want to say it anti. There's just sort of a people want somebody
38:08
other than Morrissey sentiment out there, and it got split up three ways.
38:12
I mean I think that that callers kind of right to a degree. I
38:15
think this, And look and as you know, I mean I was sort
38:17
of at anybody but Morrissey person during the campaign. But these Mansion rumors,
38:22
this is ridiculous. I mean it really is. I think. You know,
38:28
let's go back to that twenty eighteen, you know, election that we
38:30
talked about where Morrisey you know, lost to Mansion in the in the fall.
38:36
Fast forward from that, take that point, fast forward to now.
38:40
There are one hundred and sixty three thousand fewer Democrats today than in November twenty
38:46
eighteen, seventy two thousand more Republicans, sixteen thousand more unaffiliated voters. That's
38:52
a switch of that's a swing of two hundred and fifty thousand voters. Now
38:57
these are registered voters, so they're not all likely going to go to the
38:59
polls, but two hundred and fifty thousand voter registration switch and more so only
39:05
lost by nineteen thousand the first time, you know. So, I mean,
39:07
it's just, you know, it's just silly, you know. And
39:12
look, the reality is Joe Manchin, after he voted for that Inflation Reduction
39:17
Act, he knew he wasn't going to run for US Senate again. He
39:21
knew he wasn't going to run for governor again. And this is just that
39:24
I think it's just extremely selfish of the of the Mansion camp to keep kind
39:29
of bringing this stuff up. And they do it every time though, right,
39:30
every time there's a governor's right, so he may come back, he
39:32
may do this, But who's responsible for Because here's the thing that's one.
39:37
I'm here, I've gotten a hold on, I've got in I've got inside
39:39
sources like you know, like all fevers of the media do, and I
39:42
hear and I do. I've frequently talked to people inside the Republican Party.
39:46
There are Republicans, there are Republicans greg that want that want Mansion to get
39:52
in this race. There are Democrats that may not feel that Steve Williams is
39:57
a strong enough Canada and they want Mansion to get back in. They're there
40:00
and for people to just poopoo them and say, well, these people aren't
40:04
there. They're there, you know them, and you've talked to them as
40:07
Democrats and Republicans. Look, they're one hundred percent there, right, And
40:10
that is sort of that good old boy network that everybody campaigns against. That's
40:14
who those people are. Those are the people that no matter if the Democrats
40:17
win or the Republicans win, they always win, right Like, That's who
40:21
those people are. And Look, even though I haven't always supported Morsey,
40:25
I think there's a few things that Morrissey has an opportunity to do well that
40:30
could really amount to a successful governorship. And one of those things is to
40:36
get rid of those kind of people, right. I mean, you know,
40:38
we still have a ton of old school Democrat lobbyists that worked against us
40:43
the whole time. And now you know, they cut a few checks here
40:45
and there, but they really work against us and they're not with us.
40:49
A lot of our business association folks are entirely useless and they need to go.
40:53
They've needed to go for a decade or more but Joe Manchin has kind
40:57
of kept a lot of those people alive. I think one of the good,
41:01
one of the best things that I see about a Morrisey governorship is sort
41:05
of flushing that out right, and that's something he's gonna do. So are
41:07
you supporting Morrissey? Look, I mean, I think he's He's gonna win
41:13
regardless of if it. You're saying, no, let me back up.
41:16
You're saying that there's no way Mansion's in. Oh no, No, Look,
41:20
I think I think there's definitely people trying to get him in. I'm
41:22
just saying Morrisey will beat him like a drum. I think Morrisey will beat
41:27
Manson badly. And do you think he would beat Steve Williams badly? I
41:30
would assume, so I don't think. I Look, I don't know.
41:34
I mean, Mansion obviously be able to raise more money than Steve Williams,
41:37
but I just don't think Mansion would do all that much better than Steve Williams.
41:39
And I think it's I mean, for I mean, the Democrats have
41:43
to be hating Mansion right now, right, I mean, the Democrats that
41:45
are left have to be hating Mansion because it's like, all right, we've
41:47
got this new nominee. You know, we've got a Republican that only got
41:52
thirty five percent of the vote or whatever he got. And the very first
41:54
impression everybody gets is Joe Manchin doesn't think he can win and wants to be
41:58
in there instead. Yeah, well that's what I said to God. But
42:00
Steve Williams, poor Steve Williams, is standing there going, hey, hello,
42:04
I've been in success. I've turned Huntington around. Huntington's a whole lot
42:07
better than what it was at one point. I mean, somebody spends a
42:09
lot of time on honeys and I can tell you it's better than it was.
42:13
It ain't great, but it's better than what it was. But Steve
42:15
Williams is over here going, hey, hello, I'm still here. I'm
42:17
still here. It's but that's a typical Joe mansion thing to do. Man
42:21
with Joe, it's always about Joe. It was never about the party,
42:23
it was never about the state. It's always been about Joe. And it
42:28
is even on his way out, it's just look, hey, look at
42:30
me, Look at me, and so look I look. Morrisey's going to
42:34
you know, Patrick Morrisey's going to be the next governor. I think I
42:37
think that getting flushing out some of the remaining remnants of this old Democrat machine
42:42
is something positive he can do. You know, I've got this line right.
42:45
Morrisey's not from here, but I think one of the benefit. I
42:47
mean, he's lived here for a while now that he's been the attorney general,
42:51
but like you know, he isn't tied into this old bureaucratic network we
42:55
have here in Charleston. And the reality is a lot of that old Democrat
43:00
machine is still left. I mean deep in the bowels of DHHR and Department
43:04
of Education and Transportation and some of that stuff are just all these old Democrat
43:08
operatives. And Morrisey doesn't have any affiliate. Not only does he not have
43:12
any connection to those people, those are the people that work against him,
43:15
you know. So I think I think flushing some of that out, you
43:19
know, getting getting rid of a lot of that is definitely I think a
43:22
positive thing that Morrissey can do for the state. And then you know,
43:25
look, he ran as I'm I'm the most conservative guy and I'm looking forward
43:30
to kind of seeing you know. So, hey, do you say Gregor
43:32
a you supporting him or not, I'm looking forward to seeing the uh one
43:36
he's gonna win, But to I want to see that agenda, right,
43:40
I mean, you ran as a conservative. It's hard in a campaign like
43:44
that that's all TV driven and you know, negative ads back and forth about
43:47
this or that and whatever. I mean, now he has a real chance
43:51
to come out and say, hey, here's my agenda. Here's the first
43:53
ten things I'm gonna do when I'm governor. And I think if he,
43:57
you know, puts that together and puts that out there, you know some
44:00
of those people that were supporting Miller or Moore, Mack or whoever, are
44:05
going to look at that and say, hey, you know, these are
44:07
things that I'd like to see done. But will those individuals, will they
44:08
come out? And I mean Mike Warner, I think has already said he's
44:12
he's behind. I don't know about Miller and the others. Will they assume
44:15
they will? And I even Capito, I don't, I mean I assume
44:20
so, right, I mean, I mean, I think that's the thing
44:22
though, right, I mean, Morrissey's going to have to come out and
44:24
say, hey, here's my agenda. Shelley Moore Kabano said last week.
44:28
She's the head of the Republican Party in West Virginia. She said that,
44:30
and I've I've heard people make comments on that one way or the other.
44:37
People that notice she said that, Look, I don't know. And then
44:40
you know, there is the speculation that that there was. I've said that
44:45
before. I mean, you know, there were people early on that said,
44:47
you know, Morrissey was running for this so that he could run for
44:51
US Senate. And there's no doubt Morrissey's goal from the start has been US
44:54
Senate, not governor. So maybe so what we don't know about that though?
45:00
Does that mean it's senate in two years or senate in six years,
45:05
right and or four you know what I mean? Or whatever? You know,
45:07
Senate in six So I think that's the you know, I definitely think,
45:09
you know, I think he would be hard pressed to say that's not
45:12
a goal of mine. But in politics, you know, timing is everything,
45:16
and you know time will tell you know what he's going to do on
45:20
that real question. Before we have to take a break here, somebody wanted
45:22
to know your thought on the Blair lost and I only got about twenty seconds
45:24
for you two. Look it was you know that, Well that will take
45:30
longer than that. But like the look that Eastern Panhandle you just got.
45:34
You've got a feud out there between a couple of different factions, and Blair
45:37
got caught up in the middle of it. You know, if anybody that
45:40
knows Blair knows that he's not a selfish guy. He was a team player.
45:44
He was looking at the whole you know, he looked more at the
45:46
whole map than it just himself. And he got caught up in that and
45:50
it was unfortunate. I think it's going to be a real bad thing for
45:52
the State Senate. And you know that Eastern Panhandle is kind of its own,
45:58
its own, you know, East and the beast that has yet to
46:02
be tamed. All right, we'll be back right after this on the Voice

48:15
nine to fifty five at ay valland the show brought to you a part by
48:17
a Husband's Pizza. Greg Thomas is here. Judicial races your take mitter Thomas
48:23
well as you all know. You know, it was very very involved in
48:27
one local judicial race where we came up short. And I couldn't be more
48:30
proud of Ashley. You know, Ashley DM. She ran an unbelievably good
48:35
race. Uh worked hard, you know, did everything she was supposed to
48:37
do. You know. The reality is is, you know, the the
48:43
personal injury lawyers and unions went out and raised a you know, million dollars
48:47
into a superpack, and you know, Jennifer Bailey's campaign had eight hundred thousand
48:52
dollars for a county judge race, you know, and we raised we had
48:55
about two hundred. You know, I always thought we could we could get
48:59
out spent two to one, but we just weren't able to get out spent
49:01
four to one. You know. So I'm proud of the race she ran
49:05
and proud of the race we ran. You know, I do think the
49:07
personal injury lawyers were much more disciplined. You know, what they've done in
49:10
years past is they'll go raising million dollars and spread it over ten races across
49:15
the state or whatever, and you know, and not be successful. They
49:19
were much more disciplined this time. You know, they spent their they spent
49:22
their million dollars here on a on a on the court race, and on
49:24
the on the prosecutors race, and the school board race here locally. You
49:30
know, look, the real, the fix for the reality is for the
49:32
conservatives here is we have to go back to parties and elections of judges and
49:37
school boards, you know, I mean, what's happening now is the state's
49:39
very conservative, it's very Republican. And what you're getting is you're getting very
49:45
liberal judges and very liberal candidates for school board that are essentially running as conservatives,
49:50
and they're able to get enough money from the liberal interests to fund a
49:53
campaign where they can count on the Democrats in May, but then they all
49:57
call. But then they get enough money to trick Republicans in thinking their conservatives.
50:01
And so if you know, if this legislature and the Republican Party wants
50:05
to see actual conservatives elected to school boards and judges, we you know,
50:08
we absolutely have to go back to parties and elections, which we had for
50:13
decades and decades until the Republicans took over. And that was one of the
50:15
first things they switched. How easy is that to switch? Very easy?
50:19
You pass a bill. I mean, but we passed a bill to switch
50:22
it. I mean, honestly, the two people that really wanted that were
50:25
Tim Armstead and Charlie Trump, who were both now on the State Supreme Court.
50:30
But they were the ones that what they were in the legislature, you
50:32
know, they'd kind of always wanted to be a judge, and that then,
50:35
you know, for decades it didn't look they were never going to be
50:37
able to get there as a Republican against Democrats. And then as soon as
50:40
we got there, it was like, well, I don't you know,
50:43
I'm you know, I think this is the way we should do it now,
50:45
and it just isn't working. You know, it's not you know,
50:49
if you if you actually want to have conservatives in those positions, you're going
50:52
to have to make them parties and elections again. And I think with those
50:55
guys no longer in the legislature and at the court, you know are going
51:00
to see and you have a bill every year to do it. You know,
51:01
we just we they haven't acted on it, mainly because Charlie, you
51:06
know, Trump said he wasn't gonna run it, so without him there,
51:08
you know, and I think when you add in the school boards too,
51:12
that gets a whole different. You know, there's only there's only certain amount
51:14
of people that care about the judicial races. There's more people that probably care
51:17
about the school board races. I think when you put those together, which
51:22
is what I'm here and they're going to do, I think there's a high
51:24
likelihood that'll happen, all right. Talking with Greg Thomas here, Tex says
51:29
Greg could not say quite he was four more see, but he totally talks
51:34
like it. Well look, you know, look, I'm not I'm not
51:37
against him, you know, I mean, I was never like against.
51:39
I mean, I'm I don't really like the guy that much, like personally,
51:44
you know what I mean. Like, but I don't have to write.
51:45
I mean, I do this for like a living, like I don't.
51:46
It's not my job to like him. Like I don't need a job
51:50
in his administration. I don't need any favors from him. What I want
51:53
to do is look at the agenda he's going to put forward. And I
51:57
know there's a couple of things that I've heard him say he's going to do.
51:59
And that's why I referred to kind of flushing out some of the old
52:00
Democrat machine. I've heard him talk about that that's something I want to see
52:05
done. You know, so if Morrissey puts out an agenda of ten items,
52:07
there's a high likelihood I'm going to support eight of them. All Right,
52:10
I know you're your pick for Senate president or do you want to do
52:14
that? Look, I think that, you know, I don't. I
52:15
don't kind of get in the middle of that. It's that I work for
52:17
those guy, I kind of work for the Senate, So I don't get
52:19
in the middle of that. Whoever they want to get it'll be good.
52:22
But I expect to see kind of a consensus person that can kind of bring
52:25
the desperate groups to desparate groups together, you know, that can kind of
52:30
move continue to move and you know we've had the most conservative agenda in the
52:32
country and we'll continue to do so. Greg Thomas, I appreciate you being
52:36
here, man, Thanks a lot. Thank you, sir. All Right,
52:37
I'm gonna be on talk line around ten thirty or so this morning to
52:39
catch me there. I'll be away tomorrow. I will be back Friday morning
52:44
till then. Have fun and love. Somebody sets a ninety six point five
52:57
