- 0:29This Bubba starts with the scene on the road with Clayton Ryan and Coffee Break
- 0:33Entertainment.
- 0:34What's going on?
- 0:36What's up, dude?
- 0:37What's up, brother?
- 0:39Man, we've all been following along on the YouTube.
- 0:42We know you just left Nashville.
- 0:44You got a couple more shows coming up.
- 0:45Where are they at, and how can people get tickets?
- 0:50Oh, man.
- 0:51Well, we're at Evangeline's in St.
- 0:54Louis.
- 0:55Tonight is a free dinner show.
- 0:58And then we are at the Octopus in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Thursday night.
- 1:04And tickets are available at the door.
- 1:06Just show on up.
- 1:08Just show on up to the octopus.
- 1:10Clayton Ryan, how's the tour been treating you?
- 1:13Dude, it's been we've had the extensive a good night and work well well done.
- 1:20And we've also had well, let me let
- 1:24me back out on that.
- 1:25We do our job well everywhere we go.
- 1:27Even on a night where it gets a little slow and quiet, we make friends out of everyone that's
- 1:33in the room, man.
- 1:34That's what you gotta do.
- 1:35And that's what this tour theme really has been.
- 1:37It's like, let's be friends with everyone we see and play for.
- 1:42And, I think we stuck very well to that concept, on this one.
- 1:48Well and you you've kinda run the gambit.
- 1:50Right?
- 1:50You you've had a sold out show.
- 1:52You've had a fairly, you know, nonexistent crowd for, you know, going up against the
- 1:57packer game in, in Wisconsin.
- 2:01Lessons learned.
- 2:03And now moving through the Nashville, sounds like you guys had a great time there.
- 2:07Excited about moving into Saint Louis.
- 2:09I mean, anything can happen.
- 2:11Right?
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:12This one's, again, it's this is not so much like a ticketing show, and so I have no it's
- 2:18more of like a dinnertime show, I I believe.
- 2:22So I have absolutely no clue on this one either what it's gonna look like.
- 2:26Although we do have, you know, this restaurant's reputation and food menu looks
- 2:29awesome.
- 2:30And, like, if that you know, with that going, I feel like that'll be you know, we're not gonna
- 2:35have to work too hard to, like, solely sell us as music alone.
- 2:43And so I think that's the big difference between, say, like, our Milwaukee situation
- 2:47where it's like it was
- 2:48a new city and we didn't really know anyone.
- 2:51And we just kinda went
- 2:53off whatever we whatever the locals could draw and whatever the venue could and our own
- 2:57advertising.
- 2:58And the thing is, you know, every time you do ads, you have no idea how many people are gonna
- 3:04click through that ad next to buy a ticket or not.
- 3:08And as I learned more about the Internet, I feel like all the clicks are bots.
- 3:15So it's like, I don't know, man.
- 3:16We're just figuring it out.
- 3:17Just figuring it out here.
- 3:18Sorry.
- 3:18Not feeling like it's I'm going down conspiracy theory territory, Bubba.
- 3:22Well, but but you're not.
- 3:24And that's and that's why this show and just having this conversation was so important to
- 3:28me.
- 3:29You know, it's not about the content for me.
- 3:31It's that it's it's valuable to you to turn this around, throw some graphics on it real
- 3:35quick behind some snippets with the tour, and you have something.
- 3:38Right?
- 3:39So, you know, it it's kinda like my job to have these conversations and to be able to to
- 3:44produce that as quickly as possible to kinda turn back to you so you can not only get our
- 3:49name out there, right, but get your name, where it's important.
- 3:53Right?
- 3:54Having a graphic ready with the shows on it is your guys' next mission.
- 3:57Right?
- 3:57Slap something together, and, we're off and running.
- 4:00So, it's everybody just kind of finding their role and doing it and then going and living all
- 4:05the different situations so that we continue to get better at this.
- 4:08Like, we've all invested in this as a career.
- 4:10If this is where we're at starting out, you guys, you're a year in.
- 4:14Right?
- 4:14You you kind of committed to the the thing a year ago.
- 4:19Look at where you've come.
- 4:20Look at you know, you're in the freaking car going through Kentucky now.
- 4:23Right?
- 4:24Who would have ever thought we all would be here doing this?
- 4:26So go live it.
- 4:28Enjoy every bit of it, and, we can't wait to see you back here in the Upper Midwest where
- 4:33it's still freezing ass cold, and, we can get together and make some more music.
- 4:39Hey, man.
- 4:39The cold makes your thoughts come clear.
- 4:41That's how I was thinking
- 4:42of it.
- 4:42of it. Of it.
- 4:43So
- 4:44You would.
- 4:44You deep, deep man.
- 4:47Dude, it ain't deep, dude.
- 4:48Songwriters aren't deep.
- 4:49Okay?
- 4:50Let's not like they are.
- 4:51We're just people that have too much freaking time.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:54Well, thank god thank god you had the time that you do, sir.
- 5:00You're a great songwriter, and you have a bright, bright future ahead of you.
- 5:04And if I can spend my life, shining that light on you and telling other people about it, then
- 5:11that's what I'm gonna do.
- 5:12I know Alec feels the same way.
- 5:14What a spot for you to be an Alec as someone who just committed to the idea, right, to see
- 5:20the talent in someone and to go, yeah, I'll invest my time in you.
- 5:24Right?
- 5:24And now to see where that's paid off.
- 5:27Right?
- 5:28Like, you gotta feel pretty good about the decisions that we've made to get here.
- 5:32And, yeah, without getting too philosophical on you guys, I just really wanted to get you on
- 5:38the phone and tell you how fucking proud of you I am, and how happy I am that we don't have to
- 5:43do this on radio so I can cuss at you in the car.
- 5:48Hell yeah, Don.
- 5:49What's up, man?
- 5:50Talking about your Alex investment here, I don't I think it was more of a calculated move
- 5:54than anything because everywhere I take Alex, everyone at like, I went back to South Dakota
- 5:59to place some shows during Christmas time, and everyone's like, oh, where's Xander?
- 6:03I'm like, oh, he didn't come on this this time.
- 6:05They're like, oh, okay.
- 6:06Well, hi, Clayton.
- 6:08You know?
- 6:08So that's that's more of a calculated move on his end than it would have been an investment
- 6:13in my future.
- 6:14He's really an industry plant.
- 6:16They're just playing it down.
- 6:17Right.
- 6:19Well, this is how the industry is gonna run-in the future.
- 6:22Right?
- 6:23We're kinda building a model for how you build a network of your own.
- 6:27Right?
- 6:27We don't really need anybody more than what we got in the group already, but we're always open
- 6:31arms to bring anybody else in.
- 6:33And that taps you into all these different communities, man.
- 6:35It's a beautiful thing that we all have built here.
- 6:38And what, you know, Xander and Clayton, what you guys have built is the the physical
- 6:43network.
- 6:43Right?
- 6:44Like, you're getting hitting all these venues.
- 6:46Right?
- 6:46Well, you can't fill every single date on their calendar.
- 6:49So once you've established that level, they're gonna be more interested in the people that you
- 6:54recommend as well.
- 6:55So I hope you know that you guys are our trailblazers.
- 6:58You got long coattails, and we're all riding them.
- 7:00And, you know, just keep pulling, man.
- 7:02Use that big body of yours, Clayton, to pull this whole fucking Midwest scene with you
- 7:08everywhere across the country that we wanna go.
- 7:11And, yeah, we'll just kinda come behind and pick up the pieces.
- 7:15Well, the good thing is, you know, y'all are walking your own paths and, like, my my my my
- 7:20footsteps are big and deep, but that may you know, you don't have to you don't have to match
- 7:25my stride if your strides are way more better for y'all.
- 7:28You know?
- 7:29Like, I don't know.
- 7:29That's a that's a great way to put it because that's that's something that I had to accept.
- 7:33Right?
- 7:34Like, I wanted to do everything that you guys are doing this year.
- 7:38Right?
- 7:38Like, but that's not in the cards for me.
- 7:40You know what is in the cards is is continuing to foster this relationship with the city of
- 7:44Minneapolis that I have and that scene that you guys have been a part of and that you came
- 7:49from.
- 7:50And, like I said, Alec, you go dropping Xander's name around, and you're gonna make a
- 7:54lot of friends really quick.
- 7:56Right?
- 7:56So we're definitely, you know, feeding off your reputation already, but that's because we know
- 8:02we're good people.
- 8:02Right?
- 8:02We're we're qualifying each other's abilities and the fact that you're not an a hole and
- 8:09building a beautiful network.
- 8:11So it's a lot of fun, man.
- 8:12And I just I I like to take the time to to shout out the people that are out there doing
- 8:18the dang thing.
- 8:18I appreciate the YouTube stuff.
- 8:21Go ahead.
- 8:22Hey.
- 8:22What's your company there, videographer?
- 8:24Shout yourself out.
- 8:26I'm a the company's name is KCC Creatives.
- 8:29I'm barely at the the music and entertainment industry, working with artists, working with PR
- 8:35reps and managements, just making everyone look good.
- 8:38Well, you're doing a great job of it, sir.
- 8:40I I'm loving the content.
- 8:42I'm loving the dean of the day.
- 8:45As someone who ate, anchovies and different things out of a packet in prison, I can I can
- 8:52relate?
- 8:54Yeah.
- 8:55It's good.
- 8:56It it's, nutritional at least.
- 8:59You know?
- 8:59It keeps it it keeps it going, dude.
- 9:01Did you did you have this many flavors?
- 9:04No.
- 9:04We were pretty limited on the commissary list.
- 9:08Hey, man.
- 9:08I would I trust sardines outside of the country more than than I would here in America.
- 9:14Although, I guess I don't know why I'm saying that.
- 9:16I don't think we harvest sardines in this country.
- 9:18You know, those those famous Mississippi River sardines were all eaten here in America.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:24I don't even know where they come from.
- 9:25You're a brave soul, Clayton Ryan.
- 9:27A brave soul indeed.
- 9:29Why don't you guys shout those shows out one more time, and we'll let you keep on the road.
- 9:34Sure, man.
- 9:35We're heading the night to Saint Louis, but Evangeline's event.
- 9:40Tomorrow, my old college stomping grounds in Sioux Falls.
- 9:43Octopus, we got Doc Bullfrog and Madison Colbert on the middle.
- 9:48So that should be pretty fun.
- 9:50And then we take a little little break back home.
- 9:53We've got to touch base with everyone and reload on sardines and air out the band.
- 9:58I think we're gonna go for a deep clean this time.
- 10:00And then I'm more like a bleach clean.
- 10:04And then we're heading down to Texas for I I looked at the schedule, and I've said it over
- 10:12and over again.
- 10:13I still I don't know how many days we're in Texas.
- 10:15It could be fourteen.
- 10:16I don't know.
- 10:16But we're going down to Houston.
- 10:18We're going to San Antonio.
- 10:21We're going to Lakeway.
- 10:22We're going to I
- 10:23think I think it.
- 10:24Think I think we're at the I think we're at the eighteen ten Ogivin in Houston.
- 10:28We're at Francis Boxside in Waco, I wanna say.
- 10:34I'm gonna get the cities wrong.
- 10:35That's San Antonio.
- 10:36That's San Antonio.
- 10:37But we're at the Francis Boxside.
- 10:39We will be at Rebecca Creek Distillery.
- 10:42We will be at the Cherrywood Cafe.
- 10:45We'll be at Norman's Deli
- 10:49in Oklahoma City.
- 10:50LT's Corner Pub too in
- 10:53that might be the way car.
- 10:53That's like like way.
- 10:55Like way.
- 10:55There.
- 10:56Thank you.
- 10:57I love it.
- 10:58You guys just make a habit of sending me a graphic every tour, and we're gonna keep the
- 11:03people updated.
- 11:04I love this update from the road.
- 11:06It's inspiring for not just myself, but for other people listening.
- 11:10And, yeah, it might not all be glamorous, but it means something to us, and it's a part of
- 11:14the journey.
- 11:16We appreciate you guys chiming in and watching the YouTube and everything too, man.
- 11:19Make sure if you guys haven't checked it out, follow with the wild man.
- 11:23If you look up Clayton Ryan on, YouTube, that's the series that we're going under right now.
- 11:28And it's been a blast, man.
- 11:29From when we played at the Seventh Street entry back at home to every show date on this tour so
- 11:34far, we'll we'll be documenting it all.
- 11:36Awesome.
- 11:37Well, great job, fellas, and thanks for being part of the scene.
- 11:40And thank you, Bubba.
- 11:41We appreciate you, buddy.
- 11:45This program is part of the Projects podcast network.

- 12:07Welcome into a very exciting episode of the scene.
- 12:15I'm your host, Bubba Sartz.
- 12:17And here today for a very special update from the road is Coffee Break Entertainment, Alec
- 12:21Glauwitz.
- 12:22Alec, how you doing, brother?
- 12:24I'm good.
- 12:24Sweaty and stinky, but I'm well, buddy.
- 12:27Well, I've been following along on the YouTube and, watching your guys' journey.
- 12:32You're on the road with Clayton Ryan.
- 12:34Your boys are out doing it.
- 12:36I got the opportunity to talk to you, I jumped at it.
- 12:39Wow.
- 12:39I appreciate you calling, man, and thanks for watching the YouTube videos.
- 12:42It's it's been quite fun, man.
- 12:44We've got our new pal, Casey Carlson, on the road with us documenting this whole thing with
- 12:48his really pro camera, and it's it's been a great time, dude.
- 12:51So we've been trying to upload every day as as quickly as we can.
- 12:55Just little updates from the road with fun little tidbits.
- 12:59Clayton Ryan has been, he brought a bunch of sardines on the road to snack on, and so we've
- 13:03been The
- 13:04dines of the day is my freaking favorite, dude.
- 13:08It's been a it's been a fun little review of every, different flavor of sardines out there,
- 13:14man.
- 13:14It's some of them are nasty, but they're not too bad, actually.
- 13:17Well, he seemed very impressed with the ones he was trying today.
- 13:20I actually had to go back and take notes.
- 13:23Yeah, dude.
- 13:24It's it's been fun, man.
- 13:25I'll tell you what.
- 13:26It's been, quite the adventure out here.
- 13:28Lots of good people on the road, man.
- 13:30It's nice to see that people still enjoy live music.
- 13:32Well and and for those of you that aren't following along on YouTube, you should be.
- 13:36But where have you guys been so far, and where are you at today?
- 13:39Oh, absolutely.
- 13:40Well, currently right now, we're somewhere in Kentucky on our way from Nashville to St.
- 13:45Louis, Missouri.
- 13:47But we we kicked it off on Saturday at Madison at the Red Rooster, which is a sweet little,
- 13:52like, blues juke joint.
- 13:55And that was a super fun time, man.
- 13:57Technically, sold out.
- 13:58They had 55 seats in there, and we had about sixty sixty five people in the building.
- 14:03So we're considering it sold out.
- 14:06That was a really great time.
- 14:08And then we played in Milwaukee on Sunday, and that was a slow return out because we don't
- 14:12know a whole bunch of people out there.
- 14:14But at the end of the day, the venue was very happy with the performances and really enjoyed
- 14:19it so that we need to come back.
- 14:21You know, we're gonna promote it a little harder next time.
- 14:24We did put some advertisements out and stuff, but, you know, I think we need to there was
- 14:29also a a packers game going on, which we were not aware of.
- 14:33Yeah.
- 14:33There's no no luck there, buddy.
- 14:36Dude, yeah, pro tip.
- 14:37If you're gonna play in Wisconsin, make sure you check the packers.
- 14:40And yeah.
- 14:41Yeah.
- 14:42That's that's a pro tip for y'all.
- 14:46Shit.
- 14:47But yeah.
- 14:47So, Chris from Milwaukee and had just a day of driving down to Nashville and spent some time
- 14:52down there for what they call new face Tuesdays.
- 14:57It's just kinda like a four song showcase with a bunch of different both local and touring
- 15:02acts.
- 15:03And it was a lot of fun, man.
- 15:05Everybody on the bill that night were, like, indie kinda grungy bands.
- 15:11There was one solo acoustic lady that went up and did a really great job showcasing her
- 15:15songwriting skills.
- 15:17Then we went up and played two songs off of Clayton Ryan's ghost town record and then two
- 15:22brand new unreleased songs that are more on the, the new era of Clayton Ryan, which is a
- 15:28little less country and a little more, Midwest emo with a touch of country.
- 15:33Well, and he can go so many directions too.
- 15:35I know he's in the car there with you, and we'll see if we can't get everybody on speaker
- 15:40phone here in a bit, but, that's awesome.
- 15:43So a big night in Nashville was had, and now you guys are on.
- 15:46You're moving to St.
- 15:46Louis today.
- 15:48And, what what's going on in St.
- 15:50Louis, Alec?
- 15:52St.
- 15:52Louis, we are at Evangeline's, playing with a a girl named Frankie McCabe who's been touring
- 15:58from, California.
- 15:59She's been on the road for the last, like, three months, and she was kind enough to let us
- 16:03hop on the bill with her while we're in Saint Louis together.
- 16:06So we got, like, a dinner set over there at Evangeline's, and then we will be up at the
- 16:13Octopus in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Thursday night.
- 16:16And then Clayton and I are back home in the Twin Cities for the weekend, just doing our own
- 16:21solo gigs.
- 16:22And then we drive all the way down to Houston next week, and we will be doing five different
- 16:27dates through Texas and then making our way back up through The States, getting back home.
- 16:31So I think there's, like, 13 dates total on this tour right now, which we are dubbing the
- 16:36Little Folkin Roadshow.
- 16:39I love it.
- 16:40I love it.
- 16:41Well, that's that's what the scene's gonna be doing later on this year as well.
- 16:44We're taking this thing on the road.
- 16:46We're hitting Madison.
- 16:47We're gonna be out in Fort Dodge, Iowa with the show.
- 16:50We just got back from a show in Saint Paul, as you know, at a place you know well, the Midway
- 16:54Saloon.
- 16:55Yes, sir.
- 16:56Capturing a lot of content and a lot of great songwriters and that's really what it's all
- 17:00about.
- 17:00You guys are out there paving the way for the future of what we're doing.
- 17:04So, it's nice to check-in and kind of hear the names of the venues and place that we're all
- 17:09going to be frequenting here in the very near future and just so proud of you guys.
- 17:14You're you're doing a hell of a job.
- 17:16Get home safely.
- 17:17Enjoy the last couple of shows out there on the road and we'll catch up with you soon.
- 17:23Thank you so much, Bubba and congrats on everything you got going on too, man.
- 17:26I'm glad you're able to get into the Twin Cities and do some stuff at the Midway Saloon,
- 17:30man.
- 17:30I know they had a really good time.
- 17:31I'll tell you a good way to get into the cities is to start dropping your name around
- 17:35everywhere you go.
- 17:36Hey.
- 17:37There you go, bud.
- 17:39Hey.
- 17:39I love you guys.
- 17:40We'll talk again soon.
- 17:42Back at you, man.
- 17:43Have a great day.
- 17:43Thanks for calling.
- 17:53Thanks for tuning in to the scene projects podcast network.
