- 0:07What is up, everybody? How's it going?
- 0:09Welcome back to another edition of the Justin Tom Podcast.
- 0:12And Tiger fans, I know exactly where to start with this one.
- 0:16LSU dominated Clemson last night, 51 to 10.
- 0:22Blank Kevin's first game as a head coach under the lights of
- 0:25Death Valley against Clemson. LSU didn't just win the football
- 0:28game, they absolutely dominated Clemson. 164 total yards of
- 0:33offense. Where where was I at?
- 0:36335 yards of passing, 309 yards of rushing.
- 0:42We dominated on every aspect of the game, 100 And you know,
- 0:48Clemson had 145 yards of total offense that deep.
- 0:51The defense was dominant. We're talking grades.
- 0:55I would say I give them the A+ plus the offense low A to A
- 0:59minus just because they left points on the board early.
- 1:03Special teams of B plus plus to A minus because we missed a few
- 1:08tackles on opening kickoff on not opening kickoffs, the
- 1:11kickoffs and we missed a field goal.
- 1:15But other than that, they were great.
- 1:17You know, completely dismantled Clemson.
- 1:21I mean, it was if you, I saw Clemson fans post a few, a
- 1:24Clemson fan that was hard for you to watch, especially since
- 1:28you all came in so confident. But I predicted 44 to 7 and we
- 1:34beat them 51 to 10. Let's get into it.
- 1:37You know, two hours of rain delay.
- 1:40If this was last year that rain delay the the place wouldn't
- 1:46have been packed like it was. Nobody was excited to watch a
- 1:49Brian Kelly coach team, but Lane Kiffin's a show man.
- 1:53He had all kinds of celebrities come down and walk in yet Theo
- 1:57Von Libby, Don Brooke Nader, some of the ones pumping up the
- 2:02crowd as they walked in down the victory hill into the stadium.
- 2:06Clemson got out Clemson store on start out the scoring first by
- 2:10interception by off of Sam Levitt interception.
- 2:15But we defense came out held and they only got 3 points.
- 2:18Then LSU just went off and it was 33 three at halftime.
- 2:24Matter of fact LSU scored 51 unanswered points.
- 2:28The only reason Clemson got a touchdown is because the second
- 2:30string defense gave up one. Our first string defense was
- 2:33nowhere you weren't there was nowhere for you to go against
- 2:38our first string defense. They were all over you.
- 2:42The crowd didn't hurt. I mean, the crowd didn't help
- 2:45you either. There was a third down more
- 2:47constantly burn the time out because the crowd was too, no,
- 2:50too loud for them here. You know, LSU just took control.
- 2:56They never gave it back. But I want to talk about what
- 2:59really got me in that is the 300 yards plus yards of rushing.
- 3:06Our run game was surprisingly to me, strong.
- 3:10I thought that was a fix that you weren't just going to come
- 3:13in and fix overnight. But I it's just hard.
- 3:18I'm lost for words at the run game, the run attack.
- 3:22We went for 309 yards of rushing last night.
- 3:26I don't think we had 300 yards of total rushing through the
- 3:29first half of the season last year, let alone in one game.
- 3:33We averaged 145 yards a game for rushing and only rushed 13149
- 3:42yards on the season last year and we got 309 last night.
- 3:46Now look, it was against Clemson.
- 3:48I haven't seen Clemson. This was Clemson's first game as
- 3:51well. It's hard for you to say what
- 3:53Clemson had, but it is still a Clemson team and they're
- 3:56historically good and they might go on a run, but they went
- 4:00through two quarterbacks last night.
- 4:01Neither one of them did anything.
- 4:04It's still Clemson. I mean, it might happen a lot
- 4:09like last year, but last year we struggled.
- 4:12This year we were good. The defense, same time you
- 4:14defense scores, it felt good. It feels good.
- 4:18Defense got to pick 6 Jordan Ross, that was beautiful.
- 4:23You know, once the first touchdown was scored for the the
- 4:26kicked off the Lane Kiffin area area era, we never looked back.
- 4:30We kept going and you know, Sam, what can you say about Sam
- 4:34Levitt? Just for somebody with a foot
- 4:37injury who missed spring practice, it's like he didn't
- 4:39skip a beat. And like he was along with their
- 4:41heap, like he's been at LSU for his whole life and with Lane
- 4:45Kiffin for his whole life. He comes out.
- 4:48He started off slow with that pick, but he was outstanding.
- 4:53He finished the night with a total of 333 yards in 4 total
- 5:00touchdowns. 2 passing, 2 rushing.
- 5:02His right passing yards were 230.
- 5:05His rushing yards were 113. He ran like his life depended on
- 5:09it. The offensive line held up
- 5:12strong. We even got a unnecessary
- 5:15roughness call for excessive blocking last night.
- 5:20It just was amazing. The rain did nothing to, you
- 5:25know, the rain didn't hamper this team whatsoever.
- 5:29And Lane Kiffin had funny, he said he's been in that locker
- 5:32room on the visitors locker room for a couple of years now and
- 5:36that locker room is terrible. So he just went ahead and said,
- 5:41no, we go take our 90 minutes to warm up.
- 5:44He knows how bad that locker room is.
- 5:45Let him sit in that locker room. Especially high pressure games.
- 5:49You know, LSU just completely dominated, destroyed,
- 5:54overmatched Clemson last night. I don't necessarily think this
- 5:59is a knock on Clemson. Clemson is still a well coached
- 6:02team at this point is too early to tell though.
- 6:05If we were that, if we're that dominating, if Clemson is just
- 6:11that bad, we'll know more in two weeks.
- 6:14You know, next week we've got tech.
- 6:16We'll know mentally next week where we stand when we go to
- 6:21play, when we play live tech at home.
- 6:23But overall, we'll know how good of a football team is and how
- 6:28well we travel when we go to Ole Miss.
- 6:30I think Ole Miss is going to be looking to bounce back because I
- 6:33think they're putting too much emphasis on the LSU game and I
- 6:37think they're going to drop their opening their opener
- 6:39tonight against Louisville. But you know, this isn't a this
- 6:43isn't a game on the podcast on Ole Miss.
- 6:46This is a game we're talking about last night.
- 6:48The positives and I just cannot stress enough, the run game was
- 6:52strong. We can finally run the football
- 6:55again. And I'm not talking long runs.
- 6:59You know, there wasn't one run over 70 yards.
- 7:03You know, this was a constant breakdown.
- 7:06Let's see her to the we have 58 rush attempts in the yards per
- 7:14rush were 5.3 God piece of shit. The average yards per rush was
- 7:205.3. We were relative.
- 7:23We were clean relatively on penalties.
- 7:25Few things we need to, you know, look up make up for.
- 7:29But I just cannot talk enough about the defense only giving up
- 7:3410 points. And a lot of that was the seven
- 7:39of those points came from garbage time.
- 7:42We looked really, really good out there.
- 7:46Only gave up a total of 145 total yards, meaning we have had
- 7:52thought we out gained them by 500 yards.
- 7:56You know, it was domination from the opening kickoff.
- 7:59Let me rephrase that. From the first snap the defense
- 8:01got on the field, domination. I did not put that up there for
- 8:05nothing. LSU dominates Clemson in every
- 8:09aspect of that game. Last night from the and the year
- 8:14before too, because our fans were outrageous.
- 8:18The stadium atmosphere was amazing, the vibes, the whole
- 8:23day was amazing. Everything was amazing.
- 8:26LSU put on a show. They made a statement last night
- 8:31and Lane Kiffin's debut debut was a huge one with 51 total
- 8:37points scored, 644 yards of offense, 200 yard rushers, 100
- 8:44yard receiver, and the defense only gave up 145 yards.
- 8:52We scored on offense, defense, airing the ground, and handed
- 8:56Davos Sweeney his worst defeat as the head coach at Clemson in
- 9:02Lane Kittens first game as an LSU Tiger.
- 9:06And I'll give you my 5 takeaways right now #1 Sam Levitz.
- 9:11Legit, it's week 1. But what he did last night
- 9:17rushing the ball, he was clean. He needs it.
- 9:21He needs to tighten up a little bit, maybe work through the
- 9:24nerves. Other than that, he was great #2
- 9:27the rushing attack couldn't Rushing attack night and day
- 9:31from last year much better than expected.
- 9:33Dylan Jones looked fantastic. Sam Levitt looked like a
- 9:37trademark pending Jaden Daniels #3 Winston Watson Watkins looks
- 9:44ready to become a major weapon. And because I just expected
- 9:47this, noted they're #4 just because I expected it, the
- 9:51defense is for real. Only giving up 145 yards is
- 9:55insane. Might actually be the biggest
- 9:58take away. But since I expected not just me
- 10:01but everybody else who walked into that stadium, returned on
- 10:05that TV last night and tuned in, I don't think anybody expected
- 10:08anything less from this defense. And #5 we just look prepared out
- 10:12there. You know, we went, we were up 31
- 10:17to 3 at half, then 38 to 3:48 to 3:00, then 51 to 3 and we never
- 10:25once let Kit let Clemson get back into the game.
- 10:28We took our food on the gas and never looked back.
- 10:31At 44 to 3 we were going for a 2 point conversion.
- 10:33What more can I say? That would have never happened
- 10:35under Brian Kelly. It was honestly under Brian
- 10:38Kelly. We would have never got a 44 to
- 10:403 point lead to begin with. And like I said earlier, let's
- 10:43not get too crazy yet. We'll know it from a mental
- 10:47standpoint and emotional standpoint where we're at next
- 10:50week versus latex and then we'll know from a football standpoint
- 10:55where we're at against Opus when we go there.
- 10:59But at this moment, from Week 1, after watching a few week one
- 11:04games, watching Oregon almost blowed against Boise State,
- 11:08Michigan have to win against Michigan State, not Michigan
- 11:11State, Western Michigan, whoever they played looking at them
- 11:17having to win on a Hail Mary and a lot of other teams that
- 11:21struggled. I think we're contender for the
- 11:23national championship after Week 1, after Week 1.
- 11:26I think Sam Levitz A Heisman finalists at the very least
- 11:30after Week 1. You know, we've got a stretch in
- 11:35November where we got Bama, then Texas.
- 11:38Best part about that is his is at the Rio Death Valley.
- 11:42At the Rio Death Valley we have two home games at against
- 11:45Alabama and Texas back-to-back. That'll be tricky.
- 11:48We've got old piss coming up in two weeks.
- 11:51Texas A&M coming up. Look, I'm not saying I'm
- 11:55crowning LSU after one game. I'm just raising my
- 11:57expectations. What I want to see next is if we
- 12:00can keep up and pick up right where we left off at 6:30 next
- 12:03week against Y Tech Don't allow just want to see them.
- 12:06Don't come out flat. Don't read your own news clip.
- 12:08Things get back to work. Go for it, you know, clean up
- 12:14those small mistakes where you left points on the board this
- 12:17week, get those points next week.
- 12:18But I mean, for the final thoughts, it's hard to knock,
- 12:23you know, just enjoy this one. We dominated.
- 12:25We're we're back. I guess in a sense of LSU
- 12:31football is fun again. You know, like I wasn't planning
- 12:36on going to the game next week because it was latech, but now I
- 12:39kind of want to go. I want to see the atmosphere.
- 12:42I want to be a part of it again. You know, we're going to break
- 12:45this down again on Tuesday. No more death.
