- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Draft Prospect Review podcast on Patriots dot
- 0:04Speaker 1: Com Radio. Welcome to the NFL Draft. The Draft Prospect
- 0:07Speaker 1: Review podcast is your source for all the latest news
- 0:10Speaker 1: and information on the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots
- 0:14Speaker 1: now here to preview the quarterbacks, the writers of Patriots
- 0:17Speaker 1: dot Com and I'm gonna be a little bit more specific.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's Mike Dusseau, Evan Lazarre in us truly Paul Parola
- 0:24Speaker 1: for the Draft Prospect Review, where we review preview the
- 0:29Speaker 1: prospects in the two thousand and twenty three NFL Draft.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And as always, Evan, this is your first go around here.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We always start with the quarterbacks because that's all anybody
- 0:39Speaker 1: cares about except for you. UM. I don't know about
- 0:43Speaker 1: you guys, but I have my eye on Bryce Young.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I think this guy might might be okay too, he
- 0:48Speaker 1: might I think he might be picked up hie in
- 0:50Speaker 1: this draft. Um, it's a classic deuce. UM. I don't
- 0:53Speaker 1: know who's this, Levi's guy. So UM, just just to
- 0:58Speaker 1: sort of recap the the top of this draft with
- 1:01Speaker 1: the quarterbacks, looks like at least four in the first round,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and some people are talking about Hendon Hooker. Um, sort
- 1:09Speaker 1: of rising up the charts as well. But we want
- 1:12Speaker 1: to talk first, Bob, want to get your thoughts, you
- 1:14Speaker 1: guys on Bryce Young and C J. Stroud Alabama Ohio
- 1:18Speaker 1: State blue blood programs. Um your thoughts, which one is better? Mike?
- 1:23Speaker 1: You got well, I mean, and you know it's as
- 1:30Speaker 1: we joke about it, but this is I don't really
- 1:32Speaker 1: watch college football until we get to to January. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: I know Evan says the same thing, but then somehow,
- 1:36Speaker 1: like day two, Evan is like, yeah, I know all
- 1:38Speaker 1: these guys instantly, but it's a process for me, so
- 1:41Speaker 1: which I think I kind of like because I don't
- 1:43Speaker 1: really come to it with any you know, preconceived notions.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But uh, you know, jumping into Bryce Young, I thought,
- 1:48Speaker 1: just a phenomenal athlete. To me, That's what stood out
- 1:50Speaker 1: to me, just overall the guy. I know, we can
- 1:52Speaker 1: talk about his size, but I think he has everything
- 1:54Speaker 1: else to me, and just you know, I don't want
- 1:56Speaker 1: to compare him to Aaron Rodgers, but when I see
- 1:58Speaker 1: how athletic Aaron Rodgers of a guy and just a
- 2:01Speaker 1: natural kind of quarterback, that's what I saw with Bryce Young.
- 2:05Speaker 1: His ability move in the pocket a little bit get
- 2:07Speaker 1: the ball out, has the athleticism when he needs it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Like you said, it's just the size thing that's the question.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But I think overall for the game today, he can
- 2:15Speaker 1: do pretty much everything. It's just a question of, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: how well is he gonna hold up? Is he going
- 2:19Speaker 1: to be able to move in the pocket in the
- 2:21Speaker 1: NFL and avoid those big hits that you know might
- 2:23Speaker 1: cause some problems with his frame. But otherwise I think
- 2:26Speaker 1: he's a fantastic player and just a dynamic athlete fund
- 2:29Speaker 1: to watch. Yeah, I agree with all that. I think
- 2:31Speaker 1: the biggest thing that stands out about Bryce Young to
- 2:34Speaker 1: me is that last year at Alabama, their supporting cast
- 2:37Speaker 1: wasn't as good as it normally is. His production didn't
- 2:40Speaker 1: drop off. He was still just as good as he
- 2:43Speaker 1: was the year previously, throwing two guys that or not
- 2:47Speaker 1: these you know, Jamison Williams DeVante Smith type prospects that
- 2:51Speaker 1: we've seen some of the Alabama quarterbacks of the past.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I think when you compare him to see J. Stroud,
- 2:56Speaker 1: that might be something that Bryce Young has in his
- 2:59Speaker 1: cap that CJ. Strout can't necessarily say. You know, CJ.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Stroud goes out there and He's throwing a Marvin Harrison
- 3:05Speaker 1: junior and Jackson Smith and Jigba and behind a great
- 3:08Speaker 1: offensive line that has two tackles that are probably gonna
- 3:10Speaker 1: get drafted in the first forty picks of the draft.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He's got an absolutely loaded supporting cast. Whereas Bryce Young,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I think I really needed to carry his team a
- 3:18Speaker 1: little bit more last year than any of these other
- 3:21Speaker 1: guys besides maybe Will Levis. So I would give that
- 3:25Speaker 1: kudos to Bryce Young, especially because he's going into the
- 3:29Speaker 1: draft and he's gonna go to a team that's not
- 3:31Speaker 1: going to have a picture perfect scenario for a quarterback,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and he's already shown that he can at least hang
- 3:38Speaker 1: without all star talent around him. But Stroud in terms
- 3:41Speaker 1: of accuracy down the field and his ability to make
- 3:44Speaker 1: throws in the pocket, I think is the best quarterback
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the draft just from that pure standpoint, and you
- 3:50Speaker 1: saw that at the combine. He put on an absolute
- 3:52Speaker 1: show in his throwing session. But his ability to throw
- 3:55Speaker 1: a touch, timing, anticipation, accuracy, all those types of things,
- 4:00Speaker 1: especially between the numbers, is exceptional. And then you also
- 4:04Speaker 1: look at his tape against Georgia and just forget about it,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I mean, that was just an unbelievable quarterback performance against
- 4:10Speaker 1: the best defense in college football. So both guys have
- 4:13Speaker 1: a lot to really like about them. But if you're
- 4:16Speaker 1: looking at their NFL projection, I would lean Stroud maybe
- 4:18Speaker 1: a little bit more than Bryce Young. But I do
- 4:21Speaker 1: have concerns about some of these other quarterbacks. The one
- 4:23Speaker 1: here included that we're playing with all of these tools
- 4:27Speaker 1: around them and then going to the NFL and playing
- 4:29Speaker 1: in muddy pockets, playing without elite wide receiver talent, Like,
- 4:33Speaker 1: how do you look in that environment? And that's going
- 4:36Speaker 1: to be a little bit of an adjustment. Yeah, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: like both of these guys as well. I'm with you, guys.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I would probably lean Stroud a little bit just because
- 4:43Speaker 1: of the obvious cliche. I mean, he's more of the
- 4:45Speaker 1: prototypical NFL size. And I really the point that Evan
- 4:49Speaker 1: made about the National semifinal against Georgia that happened to
- 4:55Speaker 1: Georgia really once in two years and is that night,
- 5:00Speaker 1: And I give Stroud a lot of credit for that.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I think he was. He was outstanding that night. Um
- 5:06Speaker 1: will Levis and Anthony Richardson both also projected to go
- 5:09Speaker 1: in the first round. Um interesting kind of guys. Levice
- 5:13Speaker 1: At you know, kind of a physical marvel. I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 1: has a canon for an arm. Um makes a lot
- 5:19Speaker 1: of mistakes, mistake prone, So that's that's the drawback on him.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Richardson is also a kind of a project in that um,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know as size. Obviously a lot of running ability,
- 5:29Speaker 1: dual threat guy, Um, a lot of speed, big arm
- 5:33Speaker 1: quote make can make all the throws. But you look
- 5:37Speaker 1: and he's you know, down in the in the mid
- 5:39Speaker 1: fifties for completion percentage. So some projections there. I didn't
- 5:43Speaker 1: want to spend too much time just I wanted to
- 5:45Speaker 1: obviously talk about Young and Stroud because they're clearly, uh,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you know, the top of this draft. Um. I wanted
- 5:51Speaker 1: to get some opinions first. I'll ask both of you guys,
- 5:55Speaker 1: do you think the Patriots will select a quarterback in
- 5:57Speaker 1: this draft? I think later, I think later on as
- 6:00Speaker 1: we get to some of those later guys. I don't
- 6:01Speaker 1: know about earlier on. I didn't mean. I didn't mean
- 6:03Speaker 1: it fourteen okay, making sure that um, but both those guys,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I think it's, uh, it's kind of like a cold
- 6:09Speaker 1: play kick. We're gonna try to We're gonna try to
- 6:10Speaker 1: fix you. I think like Josh Allen is now probably
- 6:12Speaker 1: like the model of you know, hey, we can get
- 6:14Speaker 1: these guys with all the traits, the size, the arm everything,
- 6:18Speaker 1: physically walking off the bus looks like an NFL quarterback.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And uh, you know, I just I think that you
- 6:23Speaker 1: gotta be a little bit cautious about that. I think
- 6:24Speaker 1: Josh Allen's a little bit of a unique story. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: don't think that it's so easy to just you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: strap these guys in and and all right, we're gonna
- 6:30Speaker 1: teach them how to you know, take the checkdowns and
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know, make the easy plays and you know, have
- 6:34Speaker 1: that short accuracy and get getting the ball out quick
- 6:36Speaker 1: that that you need to do. So um, both are
- 6:40Speaker 1: just impressive, huge dudes. I mean Richardson looking at him
- 6:44Speaker 1: at the combine, I mean he just you know, it's
- 6:46Speaker 1: like he sculpted from Since Mike's not listening to my questions,
- 6:50Speaker 1: do you think the Patriots will select a quarterback in
- 6:53Speaker 1: this draft yet? Know? Somewhere I'm gonna go on my
- 6:55Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, No, you don't know. I don't thank you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: One of those guys is going to be available. Pots
- 7:02Speaker 1: might be you're interesting. I think it might be off
- 7:04Speaker 1: the board by the fourth pick in the draft. Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I mean, that guy's phenomenal. But in terms of your question, yes,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I do think the Patriots should and will draft another
- 7:15Speaker 1: quarterback because every single time he talks about Mac Jones,
- 7:19Speaker 1: Bill Belichick sounds less sold every single time we hear
- 7:22Speaker 1: from him. And if you really are not all in
- 7:25Speaker 1: on the guy that you already have, then you've got
- 7:27Speaker 1: to keep throwing darts at the board. And I'm not
- 7:30Speaker 1: necessarily saying that they're going to take a quarterback in
- 7:32Speaker 1: the top one hundred. I think that's a little bit rich,
- 7:35Speaker 1: but around where they took Bailey Zappy last year and
- 7:38Speaker 1: Day three, fourth round, I think that that's where we're
- 7:41Speaker 1: looking at another quarterback. And I think a lot of
- 7:43Speaker 1: people are asking, well, why when you have Mac Jones
- 7:46Speaker 1: and then you've already hedged it with Bailey Zappy. But
- 7:49Speaker 1: I think somebody that I'm sure some of the guys
- 7:51Speaker 1: will talk about that are a little bit more athletic,
- 7:53Speaker 1: that can create a little bit more out of structure,
- 7:55Speaker 1: that have a little bit more arm talent than the
- 7:58Speaker 1: two guys that they already have on the ross to
- 8:00Speaker 1: kind of round out their their talent pool at that position.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You got the pocket passers, you got the timing guys,
- 8:07Speaker 1: the accuracy guys. Maybe somebody that brings a little bit
- 8:10Speaker 1: more of that Jalen Hurt type of skill set to
- 8:14Speaker 1: the table. Wouldn't necessarily Hurt. We'll talk about dtr from
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, UCLA. It's a guy we've talked about plenty
- 8:19Speaker 1: in the predat process. Was out at the Shrine Bowl
- 8:22Speaker 1: with all the coaches, and I mean it's everything Evan said.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I mean, not the biggest guy, certainly, not a prototypical
- 8:27Speaker 1: body type, but an arm like a cannon, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and has that athleticism. And I might not look at
- 8:33Speaker 1: urience to a lot of games under his belt, five
- 8:35Speaker 1: year starter, and I look at it just as even
- 8:37Speaker 1: if you're not talking about trying to compete with Mac
- 8:40Speaker 1: for the starting position, it's a guy on the roster
- 8:42Speaker 1: that can maybe help you prepare for some of these
- 8:43Speaker 1: mobile quarterbacks that have given you such a hard time
- 8:45Speaker 1: over the last few years. So there's that element to it,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you know. Jake Hayner from the Senior Bowl was another one.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You know, just these mid round guys that your thoughts
- 8:54Speaker 1: on Jake Hayner in particular, he was one of the
- 8:56Speaker 1: sort of mid to late round guys that stood out
- 8:58Speaker 1: to me. I'm just curious you guys thought, yeah, a
- 9:00Speaker 1: little older. I mean, I think he's, you know, that
- 9:02Speaker 1: kind of guy and the you know, mid range kind
- 9:04Speaker 1: of has the Patriots. He kind of smart, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: understands how to get the ball out. You know, that's
- 9:10Speaker 1: what I tend to look. Yeah, he's not that guy,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and that's and that's probably maybe maybe that's a knock
- 9:16Speaker 1: against him, but he's very Taylor heineke E to me,
- 9:20Speaker 1: where he has a little bit of I saw that
- 9:23Speaker 1: comparison to him a couple of times in reading about him.
- 9:25Speaker 1: He's got a little bit of moxie, right, he runs
- 9:27Speaker 1: around a little bit and can't create out of structure
- 9:31Speaker 1: to a degree. He's not going to go and roll
- 9:34Speaker 1: out of the pocket and throw it fifty yards on
- 9:36Speaker 1: a rope down the field. That's not his game. And
- 9:38Speaker 1: I think the one thing that you looked at that
- 9:40Speaker 1: was a little bit concerning what the arm strength and
- 9:42Speaker 1: the arm talent in general is when he had to
- 9:44Speaker 1: reset in the pocket, come off his first read, reset
- 9:47Speaker 1: his feet, get to the second the ball knows dives
- 9:50Speaker 1: right because he doesn't have that that just natural velocity
- 9:54Speaker 1: to stand in there and reposition his feet and let
- 9:56Speaker 1: it go. But I love the games. He's a gamer
- 9:59Speaker 1: like competitive. I love that element of his game. You
- 10:02Speaker 1: mentioned DTR. If there's a mid round quarterback that the
- 10:06Speaker 1: Patriots are going to draft, I would be just absolutely
- 10:09Speaker 1: stunted if it's not DTR because there's a guy that
- 10:12Speaker 1: they worked for a week with at the Shrine Bowl,
- 10:15Speaker 1: played five years for Chip Kelly, who we know is
- 10:17Speaker 1: a friend of Belichick, and got better every year at UCLA.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I think he's really somebody that processes and sees the
- 10:24Speaker 1: field pretty well. Not as much against zone, but against man.
- 10:27Speaker 1: He finds those open guys a single coverage against man
- 10:30Speaker 1: and throws away from leverage and help and things like that.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Against zone, he loses guys from times to time. That
- 10:37Speaker 1: that was one concern that I saw with him on
- 10:39Speaker 1: film was you know those lurkers, those ball hawkers, you
- 10:43Speaker 1: know that are kind of just trying to hide themselves
- 10:44Speaker 1: in the middle of the field. He can lose those
- 10:46Speaker 1: guys from time to time and throw some bad interceptions.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But it's starting to come along for him from all levels,
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know, terms of his athleticism, his ability to throw
- 10:55Speaker 1: the football, and then also the processing and things like that,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and they don't know anything more Like this is a
- 11:03Speaker 1: guy that they know the most I think maybe out
- 11:04Speaker 1: of any prospect that they've ever seen, right, I mean
- 11:07Speaker 1: they worked with him for a week he played for
- 11:09Speaker 1: Chip Kelly. I just can't imagine they have more homework
- 11:13Speaker 1: done on another guy. Besides, yeah, I'm with you guys,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and it's Dorian Thompson Robinson just in case people haven't
- 11:19Speaker 1: time is well versed on the on the initials. But yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 1: he's been the starter at UCLA forever. You know, Evan
- 11:26Speaker 1: mentioned really five years as the starter, and he did
- 11:30Speaker 1: get better every year. He kind of came in. When
- 11:33Speaker 1: he first started playing, he was more of an athlete
- 11:35Speaker 1: playing quarterback, running around just trying to play schoolyard ball,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and you know, by the time his career ended, he
- 11:41Speaker 1: was much more refined as a passer. I think he
- 11:43Speaker 1: still has some accuracy issues from time to time. Evan,
- 11:46Speaker 1: you talked about, you know, the zones and things like
- 11:48Speaker 1: that that maybe he struggles with. But I think you know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you're talking fifth or sixth round, fourth fifth sixth round somewhere,
- 11:54Speaker 1: you know in day three. Yeah, I mean I think
- 11:57Speaker 1: there's obviously quarterbacks that you're thinking about it that level.
- 12:02Speaker 1: There there were drawbacks, right, there were red flag it's
- 12:06Speaker 1: it's size problems. And you look at this whole list.
- 12:09Speaker 1: You know, Jarren Hall from b YU, he's you know,
- 12:11Speaker 1: he's you know, I think you kind of have a
- 12:15Speaker 1: hard time watching a b YU quarterback without thinking Zach Wilson, right,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you know it's a little smaller, uh, you know, good athlete.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Another competitive guy we talked about Hanter. Did you guys
- 12:25Speaker 1: watch the Division two kids from Shephard at all Tyson Bay? Yeah, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: not so much. I watched him a lot of the
- 12:32Speaker 1: Senior Bowl of Senior Bowl practices and uh, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: smaller guy the overte Bowl practices. What else was I
- 12:38Speaker 1: gonna do? But we just clossed over Jared Hall. Yeah
- 12:42Speaker 1: well no, Jaren Hall, go ahead, go into Jarren Hall.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Then discount Kyler Murray. That's what I would call him.
- 12:48Speaker 1: The guy that can really create out of structure, got
- 12:51Speaker 1: a live arm. I mean, this is somebody that from
- 12:54Speaker 1: far hash is gonna hit hit the hit the fifteen
- 12:56Speaker 1: yard out from the far Hash right, There's not that
- 12:58Speaker 1: many guys that do that consistently as well as him.
- 13:01Speaker 1: But what I really like about him is his ability
- 13:04Speaker 1: to throw out of structure and on the move. This
- 13:05Speaker 1: is somebody that can roll out of the pocket to
- 13:08Speaker 1: his arm side against his arm side and flick the
- 13:10Speaker 1: wrist and just get the football there. He's under size
- 13:13Speaker 1: though he's you know, six feet tall, he's two hundred pounds,
- 13:16Speaker 1: So yeah, discount Kyler. I love that comparison. I've heard that.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I'm not going to take credit for Draft Network. Kyle
- 13:21Speaker 1: Krabs is the first one that I saw have that one.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It's difficult to find a guy that's his size that
- 13:27Speaker 1: has that arm other than Kyler. He's not as athletic
- 13:31Speaker 1: as Kyler. Like Kyler's you know, top number one overall
- 13:34Speaker 1: pick in football, top ten pick in baseball, Like, there's
- 13:37Speaker 1: not very many guys like that. But Jaren Hall, I
- 13:40Speaker 1: think it's got something to him. Might he to me?
- 13:43Speaker 1: The BYU thing is a little bit of a concern, though,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I will admit that that those guys, they play in
- 13:49Speaker 1: a very simplified system for quarterbacks. They're not under pressure
- 13:53Speaker 1: a whole lot. It's all the Zach Wilson issues that
- 13:56Speaker 1: we had coming in. But if you just want somebody
- 13:58Speaker 1: that's got tools, he's definitely someone that category. Yeah, the
- 14:01Speaker 1: consistency definitely lacking. But I wrote down the same thing
- 14:05Speaker 1: that Evan just said, I put, I put off platform ability,
- 14:08Speaker 1: And maybe it's something that I'm a little bit more
- 14:12Speaker 1: conscious of watching after seeing Mac Jones, who I think
- 14:15Speaker 1: struggles in those kinds of situations. So maybe that's kind
- 14:19Speaker 1: of a trait that I've been looking for. But yeah,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think these are all these day three kind of
- 14:23Speaker 1: quarterbacks that could all be in the mix. I think
- 14:26Speaker 1: we all agree that if the Patriots are targeting one,
- 14:29Speaker 1: it's one that they have as much information on as
- 14:32Speaker 1: anybody with DTR. Yeah, I think, you know, and just
- 14:34Speaker 1: to you know, go back real quick. I mean, I'm
- 14:36Speaker 1: just I'm interested in what happens with will Levis and
- 14:38Speaker 1: Henn and Hooker. You know, where do they go because
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm right now I feel like it's I mean, I know,
- 14:43Speaker 1: we're in the misinformation stage right now where everybody's like
- 14:46Speaker 1: he's not a first round, Oh, he's a first round,
- 14:48Speaker 1: so you know, But I mean I really liked Hooker too.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I mean, Hooker would be my pick. I just think
- 14:52Speaker 1: he's gonna go too early, I know, And and he's
- 14:55Speaker 1: in he's old, and but you know, I just again
- 14:57Speaker 1: go back to the Senior Bowl. Wasn't participating, but you
- 14:59Speaker 1: got to just hear a lot from him, and he just,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know, sounds like a really good kid kind of guy.
- 15:03Speaker 1: He'd love to have in um, you know. And the
- 15:05Speaker 1: other guy just would maybe bring up Tanner McKee from
- 15:07Speaker 1: from Stanford, which I kind of I was like really
- 15:10Speaker 1: because I was like, I was like this this Drewe
- 15:11Speaker 1: bloodstoe like a big statue in that one was funny.
- 15:17Speaker 1: But I Tanner McKee was the one guy throughout this
- 15:20Speaker 1: whole process with the quarterbacks. I was like, really like
- 15:23Speaker 1: this is this is there basically the consensus behind Hooker.
- 15:27Speaker 1: This is the next guy for the consensus. And I
- 15:30Speaker 1: was shocked that that would be the case, because he's
- 15:33Speaker 1: a statue in the pocket. His arm talent's not fantastic.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't see it with him. But
- 15:38Speaker 1: with Hooker, I find the Hooker discord is very fascinating
- 15:42Speaker 1: because this is not a player that's perfect on film
- 15:45Speaker 1: by any means. And I feel like he gets discussed like, oh, well,
- 15:48Speaker 1: if he didn't have the ACL and he wasn't twenty
- 15:50Speaker 1: five years old, and this would be a lock first
- 15:52Speaker 1: round pick. The processing with him is is a concern
- 15:55Speaker 1: that I had, especially watching him in games against like LSU,
- 15:59Speaker 1: for example, in the first to half, or he just
- 16:01Speaker 1: holds the ball, man, Like he just holds the ball
- 16:02Speaker 1: for a really really long time and you're just like,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you get you got to get rid of the ball, dude,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Like he's just a predetermined stuff. Yeah, Like at his best,
- 16:11Speaker 1: it's system, because that's a little bit of a different
- 16:14Speaker 1: system they have. You want to talk up tempo, that's us.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You know how quickly they get their plays off with
- 16:20Speaker 1: Josh Hypel's offense at Tennessee. So I think the red
- 16:24Speaker 1: flags that Evan's talking about beyond the twenty cl in age, um,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know that there are some I think some refinements
- 16:32Speaker 1: there as well. But I like the idea of bringing
- 16:35Speaker 1: him Like if you dropped a quarterback. He's not playing
- 16:38Speaker 1: for the Patriots this year, right, So I like the
- 16:41Speaker 1: idea of being able to nurse him from his twenty
- 16:43Speaker 1: cl get him in your system. There's no pressure to
- 16:46Speaker 1: watch him play, but if you could get third fourth round.
- 16:49Speaker 1: If you could get him in that like interesting, I
- 16:53Speaker 1: think he's going before that. I think he's gonna go
- 16:55Speaker 1: probably early day too, and some people, some people even
- 16:58Speaker 1: have him in the first round. You know. I think
- 17:00Speaker 1: that's my concern with Hooker and that that vein is
- 17:05Speaker 1: that he's already twenty five years old. He's gonna have
- 17:07Speaker 1: the torn acl which means that he's probably not actually
- 17:10Speaker 1: going to practice or play at all in camp or
- 17:12Speaker 1: anything like that or in the preseason, and then he's
- 17:16Speaker 1: still got a ways to go as a processor. So
- 17:20Speaker 1: by the time he's hitting his ceiling, we're probably talking
- 17:22Speaker 1: about year three or year four, and he's twenty eight
- 17:25Speaker 1: years old now and he's already going on that second contract.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It just the timeline doesn't add up for me. I mean,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I think I think it's a great point. And you're
- 17:34Speaker 1: talking about a team that's gonna maybe spend a second
- 17:36Speaker 1: round pick on him, and then they're dealing with those
- 17:39Speaker 1: issues too, And that's why it's like, Man, if he
- 17:41Speaker 1: was just in the fourth round, there's some stuff you
- 17:42Speaker 1: could work with. Maybe he has some maturity, and hey,
- 17:44Speaker 1: if he is twenty eight when you finally get him,
- 17:46Speaker 1: out there, but he's good. You know. It's a tough one.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But I just think that people need to recognize that
- 17:52Speaker 1: the timeline that the Eagles took Jalen Hurts with Carson
- 17:56Speaker 1: Wentz already there is we're a few years from that
- 18:00Speaker 1: with Mac Jones. Carson Wentz was going into his fifth
- 18:03Speaker 1: year on his fifth year option in twenty twenty when
- 18:06Speaker 1: they took Jalen Hurts, so you're still two years removed
- 18:09Speaker 1: from that, and so I think somebody like Hooker is
- 18:12Speaker 1: a little bit older. I still think he needs some refinement.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You know, they're just instances where he's holding the football
- 18:20Speaker 1: and he gets blindsided and striped, sacked, or he's late
- 18:24Speaker 1: to a throw deep. I actually don't think he's a
- 18:27Speaker 1: really accurate deep ball thrower. I think he's just throwing
- 18:30Speaker 1: open guys all the time, throwing deep. So the comparison
- 18:32Speaker 1: that I used for him was Marcus Mariota because I
- 18:35Speaker 1: really feel like he's somebody that in the short and
- 18:38Speaker 1: intermediate that those rhythm throws like that's where he lives,
- 18:42Speaker 1: like that's where his comfort zone is. And then he
- 18:44Speaker 1: obviously adds the athleticism, but when he has to throw
- 18:47Speaker 1: into tighter coverage down the field, it gets a little
- 18:50Speaker 1: bit wonky. The fact that you know, Jalen High it's
- 18:52Speaker 1: five yards behind everybody. I'm not really great in those throws.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Is like, oh wow, great throw by the quarterback. So
- 18:59Speaker 1: I like Cooker. I think that he's going to be
- 19:02Speaker 1: a potential starter down the road. I just don't know
- 19:04Speaker 1: if the timeline necessarily matches up. So Deuce, I made
- 19:07Speaker 1: the mistake before we started here because Evan hasn't done
- 19:09Speaker 1: these before, and I was explaining how we try to
- 19:12Speaker 1: keep these a little bit tight. You know, about ten minutes,
- 19:15Speaker 1: no chance, without question. The quarterback one should have been
- 19:19Speaker 1: the shortest. It's not. So we're gonna put a nice
- 19:23Speaker 1: little bow on on our phone. It will be the shortest.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Just wait till wide receivers and tight ends. Well that one, well,
- 19:29Speaker 1: that one's a little bit longer. You know, usually the
- 19:31Speaker 1: offensive line we should be able to I don't tighten
- 19:34Speaker 1: up a little bit, but that's gonna put a wrap
- 19:36Speaker 1: on our quarterbacks. Edition of our Draft prospect review, will
- 19:43Speaker 1: we preview the prospects with the twenty twenty three draft.
