- 0:04Speaker 1: I'm not so fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Paps. Paul,
- 0:07Speaker 1: we are one week away from the NFL season starting. Seahawks, Patriots, NBC,
- 0:14Speaker 1: status report.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Status report, plus college football, five days of college football
- 0:18Speaker 2: starting tomorrow night. Status report, you've got to get focused
- 0:21Speaker 2: for the season. I'm not going to do the say
- 0:23Speaker 2: bye to the family thing, but you've got to get
- 0:25Speaker 2: your subscriptions ready. You've got to get your man cave ready,
- 0:27Speaker 2: all your TVs, your grill, everything. You've got to get prepared.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'll see my family on Tuesdays and Wednesdays unless there's
- 0:33Speaker 2: a Mac game.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I mean, also, this is the most sleep we're going
- 0:36Speaker 1: to have. Starting next week, we're going to come in
- 0:39Speaker 1: looking worse than this, actually.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I don't think that's possible. Football tired is the best tired.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Definitely. All right. So we have one week left. What
- 0:46Speaker 1: is the one storyline in the NFL that is really
- 0:50Speaker 1: still on your mind that you haven't figured out?
- 0:52Speaker 2: If I get one, I would go with the Detroit Lions.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And the Detroit Lions, two years ago, were almost in
- 0:56Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. Up 24 points at halftime. You're making
- 0:59Speaker 2: plans for the Super Bowl. They have the same lineup.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Amon Ross St. Brown, Jared Goff. Gibbs, Panay Sewell, Aiden Hutchinson.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Everyone's there, but it feels like they've just cooled or
- 1:09Speaker 2: the public has cooled on them. No one's saying, hey,
- 1:11Speaker 2: it's the Lions' year because I think people got burned
- 1:14Speaker 2: a little bit. I think they're contenders, but everyone's picking, hey,
- 1:18Speaker 2: Caleb Williams, we love Caleb, or Jordan Love, or there's
- 1:21Speaker 2: new shiny toys in the NFC North. So I don't
- 1:24Speaker 2: know how contender-ish the Lions are. I still think they are,
- 1:27Speaker 2: but the public doesn't.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, what was missing last year? And you're a Bears fan.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Well, Ben Johnson. They lost Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn,
- 1:34Speaker 2: their coordinators. Ben Johnson stayed an extra year. He had
- 1:37Speaker 2: that Washington job a couple years ago and he passed
- 1:40Speaker 2: on it. And that was that year where you're thinking, okay,
- 1:42Speaker 2: they're going to win it now. Ben Johnson's staying and
- 1:44Speaker 2: they missed. So Lions are one of the great stories
- 1:47Speaker 2: or could be one of the great stories in American sports.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But it feels like it's just getting away from them.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Well, they have injuries in their defensive backfield. Brian Branch
- 1:56Speaker 1: is a big player for them. They always get hurt.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I want to pick the Lions. I love the Lions.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I love Jameer Gibbs. And they say hell.
- 2:02Speaker 2: The Lions are like the Cubs 10 years ago. America
- 2:04Speaker 2: would get around the Lions. All right, what's your one?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Okay, there's one huge story that is over the whole NFL.
- 2:11Speaker 1: What version of Patrick Mahomes are we going to see
- 2:13Speaker 1: this season? Starting week one, plays the Broncos Monday night.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Andy Reid hasn't said he's even going to play yet.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So I'm going to assume he's out there, but is
- 2:23Speaker 1: he full strength? The best thing about Patrick Mahomes is
- 2:25Speaker 1: his improvisation, and all he can do when the pass
- 2:29Speaker 1: rush gets at him, he will kill you in the
- 2:31Speaker 1: fourth quarter. I don't think we're going to see that
- 2:33Speaker 1: this year, Paul, and I worry. Can he pick you
- 2:35Speaker 1: apart from the pocket? Does he have the receivers? Is
- 2:37Speaker 1: that O-line healthy? There's so many questions with Kansas City,
- 2:42Speaker 1: yet we don't count them out.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Never count them out. You said a couple weeks ago
- 2:45Speaker 2: when we were chatting, you said maybe let Mahomes ease
- 2:47Speaker 2: in and not play in Week 1 and not push
- 2:49Speaker 2: it because you don't need Week 1. Let Justin Fields
- 2:51Speaker 2: see if he can pick off a victory. And I
- 2:53Speaker 2: think that's an interesting case. The other thing about the Chiefs,
- 2:55Speaker 2: what I don't understand is, do they have a killer
- 2:58Speaker 2: on their team? Do they have that one guy who
- 3:00Speaker 2: you can't stop?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, Chris Jones, though.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Chris Jones on defense. But is Xavier Worthy going to
- 3:06Speaker 2: be great or just good? Is Rasheed Rice going to
- 3:08Speaker 2: stay on your roster for 17 games? Because I love
- 3:11Speaker 2: him on the field. Kenneth Walker III. It's possible they
- 3:14Speaker 2: transition into not a run-first team, but a run-heavy team.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, they have been especially non-explosive as a
- 3:21Speaker 1: run game. They never have long runs. So Kenneth Walker
- 3:23Speaker 1: adds a ton there, takes some pressure off of Mahomes.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And it also shows their thinking. Because remember a couple
- 3:28Speaker 2: years ago, they got Isaiah Pacheco out of Rutgers. Seventh-round pick,
- 3:32Speaker 2: they paid him nothing. He was a nice running back
- 3:34Speaker 2: for them. They brought Kareem Hunt back. They didn't pay
- 3:36Speaker 2: him a lot of money. They don't invest in the
- 3:38Speaker 2: running back position, but they think now, Mahomes is not
- 3:40Speaker 2: going to run as much. Mahomes is on the other
- 3:42Speaker 2: side of 30. Let's give him a real running game.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, he tours ACL on December 14th. That is
- 3:47Speaker 1: not a lot of time, Paul.
- 3:49Speaker 2: These days it seems like that's the time block.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I don't know. Remember Brady tore his ACL sort of
- 3:54Speaker 1: mid-dynasty for the Patriots, but they had a year where
- 3:57Speaker 1: he wasn't at his top. I say two years really
- 3:59Speaker 1: on the Chiefs for me.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Tom Brady in his 30s didn't even need his ACLs.
- 4:02Speaker 2: He stood back there and got rid of the ball.
- 4:04Speaker 2: He didn't even have an ACL. All right, let's get
- 4:06Speaker 2: to a little bit of college football. So we talk
- 4:08Speaker 2: a lot of college football on this show and not
- 4:09Speaker 2: so fast. Let's get to Arch Manning in Texas. A
- 4:12Speaker 2: lot of people like Arch Manning and Texas, not in
- 4:15Speaker 2: that order, to win the national title. They're definitely in
- 4:17Speaker 2: the mix. But I'm wondering with Arch Manning, has the
- 4:19Speaker 2: hype from his freshman year being a Manning family member
- 4:23Speaker 2: not cooled off but kind of calmed down a little bit?
- 4:26Speaker 2: There's other people to talk about, Indiana and Miami and Oregon.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And it feels like he's in the perfect position to
- 4:33Speaker 2: finish out his college career. He still has two years
- 4:35Speaker 2: of eligibility, not just one. But what is a successful
- 4:38Speaker 2: season for Arch in your mind? And I'll give you mine.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Well, he has to make the playoff.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Because I think he's tied to Steve Sarkeesian, the head coach.
- 4:45Speaker 1: And if they don't make the playoff, Stark is out,
- 4:47Speaker 1: in my opinion. I mean, this is an unbelievable team.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Last year, he had no O-line, no run game, and
- 4:54Speaker 1: iffy wide receivers. This year, he's got a fixed O-line,
- 4:57Speaker 1: some injuries there, but he's got Cam Coleman, a wide receiver,
- 4:59Speaker 1: who's outstanding. Yes. Former Auburn player.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Great transfer.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So he had some excuses. Not that we're about excuses,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but last year, he sort of had to learn the system.
- 5:08Speaker 1: He played much better in the second half. This year,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they should be ready to go. And if they're not
- 5:12Speaker 1: a playoff team, Paul, that's a disaster. So I'm not
- 5:15Speaker 1: going national title, but I am definitely going college football player.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And I fell for the bait a little bit last year.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think on the Dan Patrick, it was said it's
- 5:21Speaker 2: Arch Manning versus the field for the Heisman. I got
- 5:23Speaker 2: all cut up. You know, I kind of look like
- 5:25Speaker 2: a Manning brother. Cooper's my favorite. But I will say, though,
- 5:28Speaker 2: that Arch Manning when the Heisman don't care about it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Eli didn't win it. Peyton didn't win it. The dad
- 5:35Speaker 2: didn't win it. Who cares about the Heisman? win a
- 5:37Speaker 2: national title. Nobody in the family even came close to
- 5:40Speaker 2: a national title.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Wow, that's true. For me, you know, I also define
- 5:44Speaker 1: him as being the number one overall pick. Because Eli
- 5:48Speaker 1: and Peyton did that. So, to me, it's more about
- 5:51Speaker 1: his NFL future as well because he's a Manning. You're right.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The Mannings haven't really gotten to the highest level of
- 5:55Speaker 1: college football. They have gone number one. And Eli was
- 5:58Speaker 1: not the best college quarterback. No. He still went number one.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 2: At Ole Miss, they never got close to really doing damage.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Look at Texas plus 650. I want to do a
- 6:06Speaker 2: minute on that. At the draft for right now.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Do you think Arch Manning is third overall pick? Because
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think that's what people think. Third overall quarterback.
- 6:15Speaker 1: How many experts have come on the Dan Patrick Show
- 6:17Speaker 1: this week and said C.J. Carr is the guy to watch?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Then a lot of people have Dante Moore. I would
- 6:24Speaker 1: say right now, Paul, it's Arch Manning number one.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You're staying with it.
- 6:27Speaker 1: He is tall. He has a big arm. He can run.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Last name.
- 6:30Speaker 1: His last name is Manning. And come on, Eli, if
- 6:34Speaker 1: Eli can go number one, you're telling me Arch can't
- 6:36Speaker 1: go number one?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it does seem like I've always said that Arch Manning,
- 6:39Speaker 2: his last name helps him so much. It's like the
- 6:41Speaker 2: safe pick. We used to do a thing back in
- 6:43Speaker 2: the old Leisureman days, the bust meter. There's not a possibility,
- 6:46Speaker 2: at least I think what teams think is that Arch
- 6:49Speaker 2: Manning cannot be a bust. He will be a good quarterback.
- 6:52Speaker 2: If you look at Eli Manning during the regular season,
- 6:54Speaker 2: he was a good NFL quarterback, but then he had
- 6:56Speaker 2: Two playoff runs that made him a legend and got
- 6:58Speaker 2: him into the Hall of Fame someday.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Do you remember last year in the middle of the season,
- 7:03Speaker 1: Will Leach wrote an article, our old friend.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 7:06Speaker 1: That Arch Manning was college football's first bust. Turned out
- 7:10Speaker 1: Will was wrong because Arch picked it up tremendously in
- 7:13Speaker 1: the second half of the season. And I think he
- 7:15Speaker 1: came out of last year doing just fine.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And Arch Manning could have gone to other colleges and said,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you're going to start week one, week one of your
- 7:21Speaker 2: freshman year. But he went to Texas. He liked Texas.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And they had Quinn Ewers, and they let Quinn Ewers
- 7:26Speaker 2: have that extra year. Was that the right decision? Who knows.
- 7:29Speaker 2: But Quinn Ewers held them off for a while.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Did you write that down? I still have Archie number
- 7:32Speaker 1: one overall. Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Man, I'm going to let that breathe a little bit. Scott, yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 2: we're rolling on that. Let's stick with a little bit
- 7:39Speaker 2: of college football. One of the games of the weekend
- 7:41Speaker 2: is Clemson versus LSU. Clemson, I think they're getting 10
- 7:44Speaker 2: from LSU, and people are focusing on the Lane Kiffin,
- 7:47Speaker 2: the pros back to LSU, all that stuff that's been
- 7:50Speaker 2: going on the past month. But this is an opportunity.
- 7:53Speaker 2: This is an opportunity for Dabo Sweeney because he's cooled
- 7:56Speaker 2: off a little bit. Let's hear from him.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Rarely am I at a loss for words, but Chapel Womack,
- 8:03Speaker 3: kind of a loss of words. I would just say
- 8:06Speaker 3: it's kind of embarrassing. I mean, honestly, it's just embarrassing.
- 8:12Speaker 6: That that's where we are.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I don't blame the kids and people trying to take
- 8:16Speaker 3: advantage of the system. I just think it's embarrassing where
- 8:18Speaker 3: we are with college football. We've been there for a while,
- 8:21Speaker 3: all that outside stuff. No pun intended, we just stay
- 8:26Speaker 3: in our lane here at Clemson.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Try to.
- 8:29Speaker 2: That was Coach's joke. Stay in the lane. I almost
- 8:32Speaker 2: missed that one, Coach. Thanks for explaining. Also to explain,
- 8:35Speaker 2: he was talking about pros going back to college and
- 8:37Speaker 2: how We won't have that at Clemson.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I mean, Dabo wouldn't even use the transfer portal. You
- 8:41Speaker 1: think he's going to take a guy who was in
- 8:43Speaker 1: the NFL camp?
- 8:44Speaker 2: He still has dial-up.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But here's the thing. This old-school mentality, it's not working, Paul.
- 8:50Speaker 2: It's cool if you're winning. If you could be a
- 8:52Speaker 2: throwback and you're winning, everyone's fine with it. But unfortunately,
- 8:55Speaker 2: Dabo Sweeney and Clemson, they lost six games last year.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They were 7-6. From 2015 to 2020... Six seasons, Clemson
- 9:03Speaker 2: lost seven total regular season games. It's a different era
- 9:07Speaker 2: for him, and if you don't think he's on the
- 9:08Speaker 2: hot seat, you're nuts.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. And you know what's funny? He is the
- 9:12Speaker 1: diametric opposite of Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin's all new school.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'll try anything to win. Dabo's got to do it
- 9:19Speaker 1: his way. And again, kind of like Nick Saban, I
- 9:22Speaker 1: don't think he's going to be able to keep doing this.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I don't even think he's going to want to stay
- 9:26Speaker 1: in this sport if it keeps going this direction.
- 9:28Speaker 2: But this is an opportunity for him this weekend because
- 9:30Speaker 2: Davos is kind of off the radar a little bit.
- 9:32Speaker 2: The hot guys are the younger guys. And it's been
- 9:35Speaker 2: a while since they were in the national title picture.
- 9:36Speaker 2: He has an opportunity to. throw cold water all over
- 9:39Speaker 2: the Lane Kiffin LSU story, and it's a 10-point dog.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That's not 25. That's 10. I just checked. 10 is
- 9:44Speaker 2: not 25.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Well, I mean, listen, he used to have Deshaun Watson.
- 9:46Speaker 1: He used to have Trevor Lawrence. He used to have
- 9:48Speaker 1: five pro receivers on his roster, pro running backs. Clemson
- 9:52Speaker 1: can't stack talent like that anymore.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It's a money thing.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a money thing. Also, programs cool off. Remember
- 9:58Speaker 1: when we were kids, Nebraska was... unbeatable. Oklahoma was great. Florida,
- 10:02Speaker 1: Florida State had their run. Yes. I think Clemson's run
- 10:04Speaker 1: is over. It's a cycle.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Unless they can pull it off this weekend.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeah. All right, coming up, we have a lot going
- 10:11Speaker 1: on for the rest of the shows. Chiefs favored in
- 10:15Speaker 1: AFC West. I said Mahomes may not be ready to
- 10:18Speaker 1: go week one, but I think they could still not
- 10:21Speaker 1: only make a noise in AFC West, the entire AFC.
- 10:23Speaker 1: That's coming up next. Not so fast.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Warm takes. I don't even know your warm takes today.
- 10:28Speaker 2: You've been hiding warm takes on me, by the way.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Friends don't do that. Friends don't hide warm takes.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Because they're very warm.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Not hot, though. Just cozy and warm. Here we go, Pearl.
- 10:40Speaker 2: We didn't get pizza with the boys. Dan and the
- 10:42Speaker 2: guys are taking all the pizza. But we've got a
- 10:43Speaker 2: little something for you. This is at Wisconsin Badger Games.
- 10:47Speaker 2: This is fantastic. This is Badger Bites, Badger Bakes. Baked
- 10:51Speaker 2: potato bar. They're doing three different baked potatoes. Poutine in
- 10:55Speaker 2: that one. I love that. A lot of bacon. Heavy, big,
- 11:00Speaker 2: starchy meals. Nothing says Wisconsin on it. I love that
- 11:03Speaker 2: more than this.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Do you have to add corn to a baked potato?
- 11:05Speaker 1: I feel like you've got plenty of starch with a
- 11:07Speaker 1: baked potato. I'm going to go against the grain here.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I just want butter or sour cream. I don't need
- 11:11Speaker 1: all that fancy stuff on my baked potato.
- 11:13Speaker 2: You're bougie. You're from the Northeast. You know, people from
- 11:16Speaker 2: the Midwest. You know, a football game in the Midwest, Wisconsin,
- 11:19Speaker 2: you have like a sit-down meal as your meal. Like Michigan,
- 11:23Speaker 2: I think they have meatloaf you can get at this concession.
- 11:25Speaker 1: How do you eat a baked potato in the stands?
- 11:28Speaker 2: You get it like this, like a football, and then
- 11:29Speaker 2: you get a big just like a shovel and just
- 11:31Speaker 2: hammer it down. You're wearing camo. You're at a Michigan game.
- 11:34Speaker 2: You're at a Wisconsin game, an Iowa game, whatever.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Can you put it in a helmet like at a
- 11:39Speaker 1: baseball game?
- 11:40Speaker 2: I don't know, but I like where your head's at.
- 11:41Speaker 2: It's time for one of America's favorite segments. It's catching
- 11:44Speaker 2: on all over the country. It's time for warm takes.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Nothing too hot, nice and cozy, just like Wisconsin this
- 11:50Speaker 2: time of year. I'm going to go first. Warm take.
- 11:53Speaker 2: The Big Ten this weekend, if you're watching Big Ten
- 11:55Speaker 2: games on NBC or other, you'll notice when they do replays,
- 11:58Speaker 2: they're going to actually go up to the booth and
- 11:59Speaker 2: everyone's going to be mic'd up. And the ACC did
- 12:01Speaker 2: this last year, and it worked out really well. Transparency. Now,
- 12:05Speaker 2: I know this has to do with gambling, but I
- 12:06Speaker 2: think it's also becoming entertainment. When you watch those ACC games,
- 12:09Speaker 2: you see those guys upstairs checking out the thing, and
- 12:12Speaker 2: then they go in the booth. And there's always like
- 12:14Speaker 2: three dudes in black polo shirts that look like IT
- 12:17Speaker 2: guys standing around with headsets, and they're going over everything.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And they're really measuring their words like lawyers because they
- 12:22Speaker 2: know the entire country is listening, saying, is this two
- 12:24Speaker 2: feet in, one feet in? Did they complete the process
- 12:27Speaker 2: of the catch? But it's great for fans. We want transparency.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And now it's become like an entertainment piece for the games.
- 12:33Speaker 2: My question is... ACC is doing it. Big Ten is
- 12:36Speaker 2: doing it. All the college conferences will do this. Transparency
- 12:39Speaker 2: during the replay. Will the NFL ever do it? Pearl,
- 12:42Speaker 2: you're the NFL guy.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think no. They should because it is incredibly entertaining.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I can't wait to see this as well. But the
- 12:48Speaker 1: NFL is guarded, man. I don't know if they're going
- 12:51Speaker 1: to do this.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I completely agree with you on this one. I think
- 12:53Speaker 2: the NFL will hold this off as long as they can. Eventually,
- 12:56Speaker 2: maybe all the colleges do it, and they'll feel the pressure.
- 12:59Speaker 2: But the NFL, I don't... Transparency isn't their.
- 13:02Speaker 1: No.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Not their first thing. They don't lead with that.
- 13:04Speaker 1: They're great at making money. Yes.
- 13:06Speaker 2: They're great at scheduling things and stomping out other sports.
- 13:09Speaker 2: But transparency, not so much.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Not so much. Not through the years. Usually, they get caught. Usually,
- 13:15Speaker 1: they don't reveal.
- 13:15Speaker 2: You said that.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm sticking the NFL for my warm take. I'm an
- 13:19Speaker 1: Eagles fan, and I was excited because GQ did a
- 13:22Speaker 1: feature on our quarterback, Jalen Hurts, titled... Can anyone decode
- 13:26Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, the NFL's most cryptic quarterback? Now, I got
- 13:31Speaker 1: to be honest, Paul, people do not love Jalen Hurts
- 13:33Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. Some do. Some are kind of lukewarm on him.
- 13:36Speaker 1: The issue is you don't know him. And some people
- 13:38Speaker 1: want to get to know their athlete before they cheer
- 13:41Speaker 1: for them. I am not one of those people. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: go up and down with Jalen Hurts, but it has
- 13:46Speaker 1: nothing to do with his personality. I don't care what
- 13:48Speaker 1: he says in the postgame or in the locker room.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I want to see him play well. Now, last year
- 13:54Speaker 1: I had some issues with Jalen Hurts. My main issue,
- 13:56Speaker 1: he would not run. He was running horizontally, not vertically.
- 14:00Speaker 1: He was a great runner early in his career. Obviously,
- 14:02Speaker 1: a lot of quarterbacks slow down in that regard. But
- 14:05Speaker 1: I thought he was protecting himself too much, and I
- 14:07Speaker 1: ripped him for that. Not because I have no idea
- 14:10Speaker 1: what TV show he likes. I don't need to know
- 14:12Speaker 1: my athletes, Paul. In fact, when you think you know
- 14:14Speaker 1: an athlete, you don't really know him. For example... Deshaun
- 14:17Speaker 1: Watson was one of the NFL's good guys. Turns out
- 14:19Speaker 1: that was not true.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Not so true.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And I'll tell you one thing, Tom Brady. I thought
- 14:23Speaker 1: I knew a Tom Brady when he was playing that
- 14:25Speaker 1: he was this kind of guy. And then after retirement, Paul,
- 14:28Speaker 1: he's been all over the place. It turns out I
- 14:30Speaker 1: don't know Tom.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Brady at all. Yeah, until you said it. I didn't
- 14:33Speaker 2: know Jalen Hurts was in GQ. And you think, does
- 14:35Speaker 2: he want to be a star? But he also wants
- 14:37Speaker 2: to be guarded and measured. Usually those things don't go together.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Is he trying to be a mystery guy and just
- 14:41Speaker 2: do GQ and do some fashion stuff? It's interesting because...
- 14:45Speaker 2: He won a title for you guys. He was part
- 14:46Speaker 2: of a title, won a title for the Philadelphia Eagles fans.
- 14:50Speaker 2: So you think you get the hall pass, but you
- 14:51Speaker 2: don't have to like an athlete to love what they
- 14:54Speaker 2: do for you. And that might be an example.
- 14:55Speaker 1: No, it's great. If you read the article, you really
- 14:57Speaker 1: get it because the interviewer asked him direct questions and
- 15:01Speaker 1: he gives these... Long-winded answers. Cryptic. You know how quarterbacks
- 15:04Speaker 1: can do that where they're trying not to say anything?
- 15:06Speaker 1: I read this about Jalen Hurts, and somehow I knew
- 15:08Speaker 1: less about the man.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I read an article and knew less. It sounds like
- 15:11Speaker 2: me in high school reading algebra. All right, let's get
- 15:13Speaker 2: to my next warm take here. Oh, this is good news.
- 15:16Speaker 2: This is good news.
- 15:17Speaker 4: L.A.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Rams owner, and he owns other teams, Stan Kroenke, has
- 15:20Speaker 2: bought the L.A.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Angels.
- 15:21Speaker 2: This is good news. If you're an Angels fan, thank
- 15:23Speaker 2: your personal God. For the past 17 years, the Angels,
- 15:27Speaker 2: you know how many times they made the playoffs? One time.
- 15:30Speaker 2: One for 17. It's like John Starks in the playoffs.
- 15:33Speaker 2: It's hard to make the playoffs once out of 17
- 15:35Speaker 2: times as a baseball team. The LA Angels found a
- 15:38Speaker 2: way to waste Mike Trout's entire career. They wasted having Otani.
- 15:41Speaker 2: They didn't trade him when they could have or sign
- 15:43Speaker 2: him when they should have. They wasted Josh Hamilton. They
- 15:45Speaker 2: wasted Albert Pujols. They had a draft a couple years ago.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Look at this. I got so many notes. The 2021
- 15:52Speaker 2: Angels draft. They drafted 20 pitchers and no hitters. I
- 15:56Speaker 2: remember talking about that and saying that is like baseball malpractice.
- 16:00Speaker 2: You have to have a balance. Stomping. They're getting stomped
- 16:02Speaker 2: by the Dodgers every day. This is great news. Stan
- 16:05Speaker 2: Kroenke spends. Stan Kroenke tries to win. If you're an
- 16:08Speaker 2: Angels fan, you should have a parade today because you
- 16:11Speaker 2: haven't had a parade since almost ever.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Wow. Yes, L.A.
- 16:15Speaker 7: Has had parades.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Here's my concern. Now, Stan Kroenke wins everywhere, right? But
- 16:20Speaker 1: the Angels are a classic second team in a big city. Oh, Clippers.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And they were always the Clippers, the Jets, the Mets.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I mean, they are historic franchises. But will the Angels
- 16:30Speaker 1: really ever break through when you have the Dodgers in town?
- 16:33Speaker 2: I agree with what you're saying. You can never take
- 16:35Speaker 2: over for the Lakers or you can never take over
- 16:37Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. But you can rent the city for
- 16:39Speaker 2: a couple of days. If somehow the Angels win the
- 16:41Speaker 2: World Series or the Clippers win the World Series or
- 16:43Speaker 2: the Mets win the World Series, It doesn't become a
- 16:45Speaker 2: Mets town. It doesn't become an Angels town. But you
- 16:48Speaker 2: kind of rent the place for a year.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And the Brooklyn Nets. Notice we didn't even talk
- 16:53Speaker 1: about them.
- 16:54Speaker 2: You used to live three blocks from there and you
- 16:55Speaker 2: never went.
- 16:56Speaker 1: No. Maybe to see the other team. And they're even
- 16:58Speaker 1: worse now. Okay, for my next warm take, I want
- 17:01Speaker 1: to go to the Dan Patrick show from today. There
- 17:04Speaker 1: was a debate going on, and I wanted to jump
- 17:06Speaker 1: in so bad. It was, who is the best defensive
- 17:09Speaker 1: duo in NFL history? Lots of great names thrown around.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Do we have any sound of what they were saying here?
- 17:16Speaker 1: Let's hear from DP.
- 17:19Speaker 6: There's no wrong answer here.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I'm just saying, in my opinion, if it's not Ed
- 17:24Speaker 4: Reed and Ray Lewis, it might be Mel Blunt and
- 17:26Speaker 4: Mean Joe Green.
- 17:30Speaker 1: All right. Listen, historically, there's so many great ones. Deacon
- 17:34Speaker 1: Jones and Merlin Olsen, the Purple People Eaters, your Bears
- 17:38Speaker 1: from 85, which was brought up. But to me, it's
- 17:40Speaker 1: pretty obvious. It is definitely Reggie White and Jerome Brown
- 17:44Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. Now, sadly, Jerome Brown passed away mid-career. These
- 17:48Speaker 1: two guys were unstoppable. Everyone knows about Reggie White. Paul,
- 17:51Speaker 1: I got to tell you, Jerome Brown was an unstoppable force,
- 17:55Speaker 1: came out of Miami and He was the best defensive
- 17:58Speaker 1: tackle of his time. So much like kind of Aaron
- 18:00Speaker 1: Donald and Miles Garrett, you had the best tackle and
- 18:03Speaker 1: the best defensive end. And that's how I kind of
- 18:05Speaker 1: see this debate. Best duos should be guys who play
- 18:08Speaker 1: near each other. I don't want to see a defensive
- 18:09Speaker 1: end and a cornerback. But to me, there was no
- 18:11Speaker 1: one better than White and Brown.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you because it's a great comp because
- 18:14Speaker 2: they played next to each other. I went and looked
- 18:16Speaker 2: it up. The last two years of Jerome Brown's career,
- 18:18Speaker 2: he was first-team All-Pro. Reggie White was a little younger.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Or actually, age-wise, they were about the same. Reggie White
- 18:24Speaker 2: was first-team All-Pro. They're next to each other. I remember
- 18:27Speaker 2: as a Bears fan watching those two guys and going,
- 18:29Speaker 2: I wish we had that. I wish we had that.
- 18:31Speaker 2: It's so sad that Jerome Brown passed away. But these
- 18:33Speaker 2: duos are great. I'm not a big middle linebacker guy
- 18:36Speaker 2: just like you, but the idea of having Ed Reed
- 18:39Speaker 2: in anybody would be great for me. But you had
- 18:41Speaker 2: Ray Lewis on. I think the public will go with
- 18:43Speaker 2: that too because– Big personality, a lot of success.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Do you think that Todd's choice of Carl Mecklenburg and
- 18:49Speaker 1: Rulon Jones was going to catch on at all?
- 18:51Speaker 2: That's the most Todd thing ever. It's like me picking J.J.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Watt and anybody. But Todd going with his team over
- 18:56Speaker 2: all teams in NFL history is the most Todd thing
- 18:58Speaker 2: of all time.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, especially a team that did not have a great defense.
- 19:01Speaker 2: He will fly the flag for Carl Mecklenburg, though.
- 19:03Speaker 1: That was super fun. I love that kind of debate
- 19:05Speaker 1: a week away, and I know it got a lot
- 19:07Speaker 1: of reaction as well.
- 19:08Speaker 2: All right, let's stay in the AFC West, off Todd's
- 19:10Speaker 2: AFC West. Let's get into it. How about a little
- 19:12Speaker 2: NFL preview time? AFC West, we're going... West to east
- 19:16Speaker 2: as we do on Not So Fast. Not alphabetical order.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I'll start with the Broncos. Fantastic pass rush. Defensive backs
- 19:24Speaker 2: are fantastic. Their defense is spotless. They're probably a better
- 19:27Speaker 2: overall team than the Texans. Broncos, did they overachieve or
- 19:31Speaker 2: resist the Broncos going forward?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Well, I think some of the analytics guys look at
- 19:35Speaker 1: last year and say they won a lot of close games.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And people tend to revert backwards. They have a tough schedule.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I've got to be honest. I love them.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Love them.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Talk about a duo. Nick Bonito up front and Patrick Sertain,
- 19:45Speaker 1: the quarterback. That defense is fantastic. I think it can
- 19:49Speaker 1: carry them. Tough schedule. Bo Nix looks healthy so far
- 19:53Speaker 1: in camp. I'm thinking possibly making the Broncos my Super
- 19:58Speaker 1: Bowl pick, Paul. A little tease there.
- 19:59Speaker 2: You should do it early. You should pull the Band-Aid
- 20:01Speaker 2: because I think they were really close and they were
- 20:03Speaker 2: an injury or two away. Bo Nix is completely healthy.
- 20:05Speaker 2: They could have been there with, I mean, Drake May.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Drake May didn't really. I mean, he outplayed them a
- 20:10Speaker 2: little bit in the regular season, but they had an
- 20:11Speaker 2: easier schedule.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Well, I mean, that game was in Denver. If Bo
- 20:14Speaker 1: Nix was there, they're in the Super Bowl.
- 20:15Speaker 2: They're in the Super Bowl.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Could they have beaten Seattle? I doubt it. But they
- 20:19Speaker 1: could have been a Super Bowl team.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Let's go to the Chargers. I like O'Marion Hampton. He
- 20:22Speaker 2: didn't play a lot last year. He got hurt for
- 20:24Speaker 2: the Chargers. But the Chargers last year, Justin Herbert had
- 20:27Speaker 2: his lowest season in numbers as far as, like, yards, touchdowns.
- 20:32Speaker 2: but his quarterback rating was his best. Can you see
- 20:34Speaker 2: them leaning towards the run and actually supporting the defense?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Well, everything about the Chargers is Michael McDaniel, the new
- 20:40Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, former Dolphins head coach, and he can do both.
- 20:43Speaker 1: He can have big explosive plays in passing and big
- 20:46Speaker 1: run plays. I mean, we talked about this earlier. Chargers
- 20:51Speaker 1: on paper look amazing.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Every year.
- 20:54Speaker 1: But I don't know if I can do it, Paul.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They just always find a way to either get hurt
- 20:57Speaker 1: or something goes wrong. But on paper, those two tackles,
- 21:01Speaker 1: Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, and Justin Herbert being this talented,
- 21:04Speaker 1: their offense has to be explosive.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to throw to the Chiefs for just
- 21:09Speaker 2: a second. What's more likely, the Chiefs in the AFC
- 21:12Speaker 2: title game or the Chiefs out of the playoffs?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Chiefs in the AFC title game, to me. I think
- 21:17Speaker 1: people are discounting the Chiefs way too much. I mean, listen,
- 21:19Speaker 1: everyone talks about Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen. Have
- 21:23Speaker 1: those guys beaten Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs? Nope. All
- 21:26Speaker 1: they have to do is get to the postseason and
- 21:28Speaker 1: then ride the homes. But there's enough history there to
- 21:30Speaker 1: know if the Chiefs are in the playoffs, they're dangerous.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Okay, we will talk about the Raiders. There's the Chiefs schedule. Ooh,
- 21:36Speaker 2: they got Broncos easy. Not easy, but I would say
- 21:39Speaker 2: the Colts, that's winnable. Raiders, winnable.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Until you get to the Jets, it's pretty saucy.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You've got to take advantage of that Dolphins-Raiders run because
- 21:48Speaker 1: there's a lot of problems on that. Seattle's defense and
- 21:51Speaker 1: twice against Denver's defense.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Dolphins-Jets is like two extra bye weeks. All right,
- 21:55Speaker 2: last up, the Raiders. Is this a competitive year for
- 21:59Speaker 2: the Raiders, or is this a set-up for the future
- 22:01Speaker 2: year for the Raiders?
- 22:01Speaker 1: To me, it's all set-up for the future. And the
- 22:03Speaker 1: debate is, is it better for Mendoza, Fernando Mendoza, to
- 22:07Speaker 1: play and learn on the job, or do you let
- 22:08Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins sort of take the hits? I do not
- 22:11Speaker 1: think they're going to be competitive. And by the way,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I have them on a mini tank. Even though they're
- 22:15Speaker 1: not going to get a quarterback, they've got to get
- 22:17Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith, the Ohio State wide receiver. Tank for a
- 22:20Speaker 1: wide receiver. What do you think?
- 22:21Speaker 2: I love that. Or you could trade down and build
- 22:23Speaker 2: draft picks. That's great. That's our AFC West preview. Coming up. Oh,
- 22:27Speaker 2: this is fantastic. My guy, Kyle Long, former Bears tough guy, 6'8, 330.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Now he's at CBS Sports running things. Kyle Long joins
- 22:34Speaker 2: not so fast. Stick around with Paxton Perloff. Your guy.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Your guy.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Oh, Kyle Long. It's first team, my guy.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I feel like I'm the third long brother, though. I
- 22:44Speaker 1: don't know why I feel that way.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I wouldn't look at you and say that.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Welcome back to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's
- 22:52Speaker 1: Paul Papp. Hope you're enjoying our first week on NBC
- 22:55Speaker 1: Sports Now on Peacock. Now, Paul, we've had some big guests.
- 22:59Speaker 1: We had Big Cat himself on. But this is by
- 23:01Speaker 1: far physically our biggest guest coming up.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Monstrous.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, talking about Kyle Long, former All-Pro with
- 23:07Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears. He's a host on CBS NFL Today.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Here on behalf of Generation Fine, which we really want
- 23:13Speaker 1: to get into, Kyle. But first, welcome to the show.
- 23:16Speaker 1: How are you doing?
- 23:17Speaker 7: I'm great, you guys. You look fantastic. You sound fantastic.
- 23:21Speaker 7: I look forward to catching up on all things, football,
- 23:23Speaker 7: mental health, everything.
- 23:24Speaker 2: All right, let me get into it with you. The
- 23:27Speaker 2: Rams were a big topic this week. I want to
- 23:28Speaker 2: put you back in your playing days. Let's say you're 25,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you're jacked, you're ready to go. You're still drunk. But
- 23:34Speaker 2: if your coach went up to you and said, you
- 23:36Speaker 2: either have to face peak Miles Garrett or peak Aaron Donald,
- 23:40Speaker 2: and you got to choose from a football reason, which
- 23:42Speaker 2: one would you choose?
- 23:44Speaker 7: So if the player is going to say, I want
- 23:47Speaker 7: to go against the guy who plays on the interior
- 23:49Speaker 7: because you can have your buddies with you. If you
- 23:53Speaker 7: had to pick your poison, if you're an offensive coordinator
- 23:56Speaker 7: and you're going up against these two guys, you have
- 23:59Speaker 7: to choose which, do I want to double the edge
- 24:01Speaker 7: or do I want to double the inside? Well, if
- 24:02Speaker 7: you're doubling the edge, you leave a one-on-one for Aaron Donald,
- 24:07Speaker 7: which is a non-starter in football conversation, right? I mean,
- 24:12Speaker 7: you're dead on arrival. If you have a tackle who
- 24:15Speaker 7: is willing to commit to staying inside out and not
- 24:19Speaker 7: falling for the true-to-life, godlike speed of Miles Garrett, you
- 24:24Speaker 7: can stay inside out and your quarterback can step up
- 24:26Speaker 7: in a pocket that's insured with double teams, a la
- 24:30Speaker 7: the Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, all these guys
- 24:34Speaker 7: who are creative when things get off schedule. The one
- 24:37Speaker 7: thing that has to be non-negotiable is center, guard, guard.
- 24:42Speaker 7: Those guys have to be in lockstep, and you can
- 24:45Speaker 7: afford to get beat high side as a tackle knowing
- 24:48Speaker 7: that your quarterback can step up, but if there's something
- 24:50Speaker 7: in his field of view right in his lap, it's
- 24:53Speaker 7: a non-starter for an offense.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Kyle, do you remember going up against any D-line like this?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Was there a duo like Donald and Garrett that you
- 25:01Speaker 1: had to worry about or anything comparable?
- 25:05Speaker 7: Well, there was a number of teams that had tandems,
- 25:07Speaker 7: and a lot of these groups have tandems, and some
- 25:09Speaker 7: of them are interior, some of them are exterior, interior, off-ball, on-ball.
- 25:14Speaker 7: The Packers, when I was in 2015, it was Julius Peppers,
- 25:19Speaker 7: Clay Matthews. Those two guys could do some special things.
- 25:22Speaker 7: My rookie year, it was the Bills. It was Mario Williams,
- 25:27Speaker 7: Marcel Darius, Kyle Williams. I think about number of teams
- 25:33Speaker 7: that had great guys. The Eagles, Fletcher Cox and all
- 25:36Speaker 7: of his jerk buddies in Philadelphia who I friggin' hated playing.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Alright, Kyle, let me go to your Bears for a second.
- 25:45Speaker 2: You and I talked at the Super Bowl about the
- 25:46Speaker 2: Bears and how fun of a season it was, but
- 25:49Speaker 2: when you're on a team where you believe in your
- 25:51Speaker 2: quarterback can get you out of anything, and if you
- 25:54Speaker 2: look at Caleb Williams last year, it felt like by
- 25:56Speaker 2: the end of the season, the Bears.
- 25:57Speaker 7: What situation Walter White gets in, you end up knowing
- 26:01Speaker 7: that you're going to be on the edge of your seat,
- 26:03Speaker 7: a bunch of stuff's going to happen, and he's going
- 26:05Speaker 7: to sleep in his bed that night. And that's the
- 26:07Speaker 7: thing with Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. They have
- 26:11Speaker 7: gotten it done in a number of ways, but I
- 26:13Speaker 7: think the one way that's missing is going into the half,
- 26:17Speaker 7: going into the locker room. That end of the second quarter,
- 26:20Speaker 7: there's a lot of points left on the table. That's
- 26:22Speaker 7: been a point of emphasis. If they can sure that up,
- 26:25Speaker 7: hopefully there's less one-score ballgames.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Kyle, I have the pro football focus offensive line rankings.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Number one, Broncos. Number two, my Eagles, I might add,
- 26:34Speaker 1: by the way. You insulted earlier. But the Bears are
- 26:37Speaker 1: number five.
- 26:37Speaker 7: I meant it.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I could tell.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Don't upset them.
- 26:40Speaker 1: The Bears are number five. I was a little surprised
- 26:43Speaker 1: about that because traditionally, you know, in the last few years,
- 26:46Speaker 1: they haven't been that high. Do you buy that ranking
- 26:48Speaker 1: for the Chicago Bears, the top five offensive line?
- 26:52Speaker 7: I hard buy a top ten. Top five is something,
- 26:56Speaker 7: let's talk at Thanksgiving and have this conversation. And the
- 26:59Speaker 7: same thing can be said for your Eagles, because as
- 27:02Speaker 7: we know, you know, Howie Roseman had to say, hey, Landon,
- 27:06Speaker 7: 16 million is here. You can't go ride the lawnmower
- 27:09Speaker 7: all day. And Lane Johnson is in year dozen. And,
- 27:13Speaker 7: you know, the question, question, questions. And then your offensive
- 27:15Speaker 7: line coach leaves. There's a lot of those situations throughout
- 27:18Speaker 7: the league. Let's take a look at the Bills, for example.
- 27:21Speaker 7: The offensive line coach, that was there last year, the
- 27:24Speaker 7: run game coordinator, Aaron Cromer. He drafted me in 2013.
- 27:28Speaker 7: He's exceptional. All of his players use the same technique.
- 27:32Speaker 7: He has a brilliant run scheme. He's gone. How is
- 27:35Speaker 7: that going to be impacted? Everybody's talking about Joe Brady,
- 27:38Speaker 7: but what about the biggest group in size and number
- 27:41Speaker 7: on the damn field? And the same thing goes with Philly.
- 27:45Speaker 7: They lost their coach in Jeff Stalin as well.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Well, you're preaching to the choir. Perloff and I always talk.
- 27:49Speaker 2: We're thin guys. We're not big guys like you. But
- 27:51Speaker 2: we nerd out over offensive line rankings because I don't,
- 27:54Speaker 2: you know, when a team doesn't have an offensive line,
- 27:56Speaker 2: it's like it's a non-starter. You can't even think of
- 27:58Speaker 2: your team as a playoff team, as a competitive team.
- 28:01Speaker 2: If you go back, if you remember when Mahomes a
- 28:02Speaker 2: couple years ago didn't have the blocking before they brought
- 28:05Speaker 2: over Tooney, they got roughed up. They had all the
- 28:07Speaker 2: talent in the world, but they got roughed up because
- 28:09Speaker 2: they couldn't protect the guy.
- 28:10Speaker 7: Yeah, I remember standing in the parking lot of Raymond
- 28:13Speaker 7: James Stadium next to Bill Cower and I looked at
- 28:16Speaker 7: him and I said, maybe I can go help this guy.
- 28:18Speaker 7: And then I ended up signing with the Chiefs and
- 28:21Speaker 7: I ended up breaking my leg. But you're exactly right.
- 28:25Speaker 7: These things, Drew Brees is unbelievable. Drew Brees doesn't happen
- 28:31Speaker 7: without Jari Evans, Carl Nix, Aaron Cromer, you know, a
- 28:36Speaker 7: number of things. So it's got to be a perfect storm.
- 28:40Speaker 1: All right, Kyle, we have a lot more offensive line
- 28:42Speaker 1: NFL questions. I want to talk about Generation Fine for
- 28:44Speaker 1: a second. We heard you earlier in the week on
- 28:46Speaker 1: Dan Patrick's show. It was really powerful. Tell us what
- 28:48Speaker 1: you're doing with that.
- 28:50Speaker 7: So Generation Fine is just like, in the simplest terms,
- 28:54Speaker 7: it's an initiative that Johnson & Johnson has started, and
- 28:57Speaker 7: I've partnered with them on this, where we want to
- 29:00Speaker 7: really push the idea of checking in with yourself and,
- 29:05Speaker 7: you know, with other people. And fine is... been kind
- 29:09Speaker 7: of the commonplace response. And when you're in the building
- 29:12Speaker 7: and a coach is like, how are you doing? I'm like,
- 29:13Speaker 7: I'm good. I'm good. Good is not good.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:15Speaker 7: And fine is not really fine. And what is what?
- 29:19Speaker 7: So figuring that out and a great place to start
- 29:22Speaker 7: is going to generation-fine.com to find tools, resources, information. They even,
- 29:28Speaker 7: you know, can get you in contact with medical professionals. There's,
- 29:32Speaker 7: There's ways to combat depression, anxiety, whatever it is you're
- 29:36Speaker 7: going through. It's a spectrum. Everybody's dealing with something. If
- 29:39Speaker 7: I were to ask both of you individually, I promise
- 29:42Speaker 7: you would have something on the tip of your tongue.
- 29:44Speaker 7: You'd say, you know what? I'm dealing with this right now.
- 29:47Speaker 7: And that's okay.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And it feels like, like you said, Generation Fine, it
- 29:51Speaker 2: feels like we're in a different generation for this. Like,
- 29:53Speaker 2: I don't think you at 24 could have done this
- 29:55Speaker 2: interview and gone, I don't know, could you have gone
- 29:57Speaker 2: back to the locker room and said, hey, I'm doing
- 29:58Speaker 2: things for a website. I don't know if you at
- 30:01Speaker 2: 24 would have had a website to go to.
- 30:03Speaker 7: No, you're absolutely right. And I have a unique perspective
- 30:07Speaker 7: being that I was raised in the house, uh, of
- 30:09Speaker 7: a football playing caveman from the eighties and nineties. And I,
- 30:12Speaker 7: I shared a, you know, a bathroom with a brother
- 30:15Speaker 7: who was four years older and a CBA removed from
- 30:17Speaker 7: my career. So as you guys know and understand, these
- 30:21Speaker 7: are different eras. It's like when they look at, uh, uh,
- 30:24Speaker 7: the soil that goes down a hundred, there's layers to
- 30:27Speaker 7: this thing, you know, and there's bones throughout. Um, and I,
- 30:30Speaker 7: they've seen it all. And I have that perspective, uh,
- 30:34Speaker 7: My dad always preached a number of things, but one
- 30:41Speaker 7: of those things that stood out to me was nobody cares.
- 30:45Speaker 7: In terms of how you feel physically, my ankle hurts.
- 30:48Speaker 7: I got a finger. Nobody cares. What can you do
- 30:51Speaker 7: for me? Can you practice? That's the league. The sooner
- 30:54Speaker 7: you understand that nobody cares, you're going to be helped
- 30:58Speaker 7: by that. Conversely, you have to understand that a ton
- 31:02Speaker 7: of people care about how you feel mentally and that
- 31:05Speaker 7: is something that is something you can work on generation
- 31:09Speaker 7: fine is there it's a platform for.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It oh that's great thank you kyle so uh your
- 31:13Speaker 1: dad by the way you guys are now going up
- 31:15Speaker 1: against each other 12 noon eastern to one o'clock i
- 31:19Speaker 1: know you've been asked this before but what is uh
- 31:22Speaker 1: what is your mom going to do is it you
- 31:24Speaker 1: or your dad i know chris is out there somewhere
- 31:26Speaker 1: too doing podcasts and things but who gets.
- 31:29Speaker 7: Chris gets enough attention monday through friday who's on So
- 31:34Speaker 7: when I played against Chris, I think Mom got one
- 31:37Speaker 7: of those jerseys that was split down the middle.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Half and half.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 31:40Speaker 7: So we've got to figure out a really good technician
- 31:43Speaker 7: that can fuse a plasma screen with Fox and CBS.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Kyle, you've got dough. Your brother's got dough. Your dad's
- 31:49Speaker 2: got dough. Buy a couple more TVs. Problem solved.
- 31:52Speaker 7: You know what? There's always room for more TVs. I'm
- 31:56Speaker 7: staring at like five screens in my office.
- 31:58Speaker 2: God bless you.
- 31:59Speaker 7: You know, between the video games and the— all the
- 32:03Speaker 7: streaming services. There's a bunch of ways to watch, but
- 32:06Speaker 7: I think, I think mom will have it dialed in.
- 32:07Speaker 7: All right.
- 32:08Speaker 2: We want to nerd out on some offensive line questions
- 32:10Speaker 2: with you. When you played in the cold in Chicago,
- 32:13Speaker 2: when it's snowing, a two-part question, do the offensive linemen
- 32:16Speaker 2: really like playing in the snow? Like they say on
- 32:18Speaker 2: TV and who decides sleeves or no sleeves captain? How
- 32:22Speaker 2: does that work?
- 32:25Speaker 7: Great questions. I would say that The cold weather is absolutely,
- 32:30Speaker 7: particularly poor footing weather. Weather that evens the playing field
- 32:36Speaker 7: for everyone is in our advantage as an offense because
- 32:40Speaker 7: we know the snap count, the direction, where the help's
- 32:42Speaker 7: coming from, what the end goal is. Defenses are reacting.
- 32:45Speaker 7: You are less prone to have good reactionary skills on
- 32:50Speaker 7: a crappy surface. So anything to make Von Miller more human.
- 32:56Speaker 2: And the sleeves?
- 32:57Speaker 7: OG gangsters. And then I got to town and I said,
- 33:02Speaker 7: I did it my rookie year. I did no sleeves.
- 33:04Speaker 7: And then my second year, I said, I do not
- 33:06Speaker 7: care what you or him or him says about that.
- 33:12Speaker 7: I'm going to wear sleeves and be warm and block people.
- 33:15Speaker 7: You can be a badass and get your hands swiped.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Now, Kyle, you're 6'6, 330. No one's telling you what
- 33:23Speaker 2: to wear. Is that what you're saying?
- 33:24Speaker 7: You're right. You're right. And I remember having some salty
- 33:28Speaker 7: old veterans that eventually just said, you know what? He's
- 33:31Speaker 7: got to do what he's got to do. Let him
- 33:33Speaker 7: do what he's got to do.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Well, Kyle, I mean, the fans have it harder. We're
- 33:36Speaker 1: sitting out there in the bleachers. We're not even moving around.
- 33:39Speaker 1: So sometimes when it gets really cool, we're the Warriors.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I have a dumb offensive line question. Is it totally
- 33:43Speaker 1: different to block for a left-handed quarterback? I don't think
- 33:46Speaker 1: you've ever done it, but I've always wondered this. You've
- 33:48Speaker 1: got Tua and Penix down in Atlanta. I like it.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Does that affect your job?
- 33:52Speaker 7: It's 100% something you have to be cognizant of. It's
- 33:57Speaker 7: something that you get lost in in the game. Once
- 34:00Speaker 7: the game starts rolling, you forget about it. But as
- 34:02Speaker 7: a right guard... I understood that the barrel of the
- 34:07Speaker 7: gun was right over my left shoulder. And if you're
- 34:10Speaker 7: a sniper, you don't want a wall that's in your teeth.
- 34:14Speaker 7: You want to have a sure thing in front of you.
- 34:18Speaker 7: So I took a tremendous amount of pride of being
- 34:20Speaker 7: that guy. I called it like the doorman, you know,
- 34:24Speaker 7: the guy who's at the front door. But you'd have
- 34:26Speaker 7: a different doorman there. You've got a left guard playing doorman.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you're the scariest bouncer I've ever seen, Kyle. All right,
- 34:31Speaker 2: last thing in this series of what we like to
- 34:33Speaker 2: call this Such thing as a dumb question. Perloff and
- 34:36Speaker 2: I combined are about 380 pounds. Be honest. How long,
- 34:42Speaker 2: if we jumped you in an alley, would it take
- 34:43Speaker 2: to decimate us? Be honest. Like how many seconds, minutes, hours?
- 34:47Speaker 7: Man, I don't even know. Do you guys have any
- 34:50Speaker 7: background in fighting?
- 34:51Speaker 2: I was an archer.
- 34:52Speaker 7: I got beat up a couple times. There's no weapons allowed. Okay,
- 34:56Speaker 7: so you're tough. You've been beat up.
- 35:00Speaker 1: My approach was let the bullies in high school copy
- 35:03Speaker 1: off my paper.
- 35:04Speaker 6: Yeah, it helped.
- 35:06Speaker 7: You know what? I was in musicals and drama club
- 35:10Speaker 7: and everything, and you'd be amazed the amount of practice
- 35:13Speaker 7: I got on bullies when I was growing up because
- 35:16Speaker 7: my buddies were getting, you know, they got some crap,
- 35:19Speaker 7: but Uh, I would say less, less than a minute,
- 35:23Speaker 7: but if it makes it more than a minute, I'm
- 35:25Speaker 7: going to be dead because I'll be out of breath.
- 35:27Speaker 7: I just don't have, I'm not in Aaron Donald's shape.
- 35:30Speaker 2: 12 and a half seconds. I take that as a compliment.
- 35:33Speaker 7: If you bring, if you bring your traditional recurve bow, you,
- 35:36Speaker 7: you probably got it.
- 35:38Speaker 1: All right, Kyle, really appreciate you spreading the word about
- 35:41Speaker 1: mental health. And we're looking forward to the big show
- 35:43Speaker 1: on CBS this fall. I'm watching you over your dad.
- 35:47Speaker 1: You can tell how we met. I've met him many times.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Nice man, but come on. He's the best.
- 35:54Speaker 7: And we'll take any and all comers. Come on. It's
- 35:56Speaker 7: 12 o'clock Eastern. Come find us.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Awesome, Kyle. Thanks so much for the time, buddy.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Take care, bud.
- 36:01Speaker 7: All right, y'all.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Peace.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Wow.
- 36:03Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 36:04Speaker 6: One minute.
- 36:06Speaker 1: One minute.
- 36:07Speaker 2: That's a total compliment because he's 6'6, 330. I think
- 36:10Speaker 2: he honestly beat us both up in 15 seconds.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Oh, my God. 15. Get the double digits. I love it.
- 36:16Speaker 7: All right.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Coming up next, we have The Clip joined. Something really
- 36:20Speaker 1: interesting from DP's show today that I think you'll like.
- 36:22Speaker 1: That's next. Not so fast.
- 36:25Speaker 2: He would be the perfect Chicago south side, southwest side bouncer. Bald, scary, 6'6,
- 36:30Speaker 2: and jacked.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I wouldn't even go into the bar
- 36:33Speaker 1: if that guy was there.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I think it's easy to get rid of Tony Romo
- 36:42Speaker 4: if you're CBS.
- 36:44Speaker 6: Almost, we have an excuse now.
- 36:46Speaker 4: We overpaid for him, and now we have an opportunity
- 36:50Speaker 4: to move on with J.J.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Watt.
- 36:53Speaker 6: I hope Tony gets another chance.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Maybe this is a gap year where he sits out
- 36:59Speaker 4: and focuses on what's really important.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Back on Not So Fast, Pabst and Perloff. That was
- 37:06Speaker 2: Dan Patrick earlier today on the Dan Patrick Talking Network.
- 37:08Speaker 2: extensively and deeply about the Tony Romo situation. I thought
- 37:11Speaker 2: that was some of Dan's best work of the week.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Because like Dan said, we're going to go places and
- 37:18Speaker 2: he knows where he's going to go, but sometimes he
- 37:19Speaker 2: doesn't know where he's exactly going to go until he
- 37:21Speaker 2: gets into it. And it was fantastic.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I mean, there's, there's nobody that can do what Dan
- 37:26Speaker 1: Patrick can do. You know, obviously the sports stuff, but
- 37:29Speaker 1: just sort of connect with the audience and talk about
- 37:31Speaker 1: serious stuff and funny stuff. And that was a classic example.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I was glued to that. And it made me think, like, yeah,
- 37:37Speaker 1: Tony Romo, I want to see him get better. I
- 37:39Speaker 1: want to see him get healthy and get a second chance.
- 37:41Speaker 2: And Dan's talked about his personal history with pain and
- 37:43Speaker 2: painkillers and things when he had different issues with pain.
- 37:46Speaker 2: We learned about it live on the air. I learned
- 37:49Speaker 2: about it off the air.
- 37:50Speaker 1: That was incredible.
- 37:51Speaker 2: You were watching that day. And so I think that's
- 37:53Speaker 2: one of the things that we don't script our show.
- 37:56Speaker 2: We barely plan our show on the Dan Patrick Show.
- 37:58Speaker 2: But sometimes when Dan wants to go somewhere, the four
- 38:01Speaker 2: of us, the Danettes, we'll be like, You shut your
- 38:04Speaker 2: mouth for two minutes and you just let it go.
- 38:06Speaker 2: You don't get in his ear. You don't even like,
- 38:07Speaker 2: it was almost like a pitcher pitching a perfect game.
- 38:10Speaker 2: You don't want to get in his eyesight. Let him roll.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You know, it's different when I started on the Dan
- 38:14Speaker 1: Patrick show late two thousands, I'm not sure Dan would
- 38:17Speaker 1: have done that. But then, uh, that day, actually I
- 38:20Speaker 1: was here, Paul, when Dan talked about what he was
- 38:22Speaker 1: going through with a shoulder pain and, and all that.
- 38:25Speaker 1: And I couldn't, I couldn't believe it. I still couldn't
- 38:27Speaker 1: believe it. And the way he delivered was incredible. That
- 38:29Speaker 1: was a really great sound. And, uh, Yeah, again, I'm
- 38:32Speaker 1: rooting for Tony Romo now.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Yeah, one of our other friends was on the show today,
- 38:36Speaker 2: Ryan Leaf, our old buddy who's had his own issues.
- 38:38Speaker 2: But he talked about college football. Ryan's covering college football.
- 38:41Speaker 2: He said something interesting about how many teams are in
- 38:43Speaker 2: play for the national title.
- 38:47Speaker 6: As of right now, I would argue there's many more
- 38:50Speaker 6: than what we think.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Because I don't think anybody has any idea what's about
- 38:55Speaker 4: to trot onto the field.
- 38:56Speaker 6: A chance to go to the national title. Yes, I
- 38:58Speaker 6: believe so.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Wow. I looked at the number 30 team in the
- 39:02Speaker 1: AP poll, the preseason AP poll, Paul. TCU, so I'm
- 39:06Speaker 1: saying that's probably not a national title team. This was
- 39:08Speaker 1: preseason before they lost to North Carolina. But 31, Navy.
- 39:11Speaker 1: All right.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Oh, we love Navy here.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if they're going to win the
- 39:14Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 39:15Speaker 2: We have Army back there.
- 39:16Speaker 1: And 32 is South Carolina, who actually could make a run.
- 39:19Speaker 2: But I think Ryan's point might be a bigger point
- 39:21Speaker 2: that says we're in a different era now. If Indiana
- 39:23Speaker 2: can win... You can't say just these seven or eight teams.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Ten years ago in college football, it was Georgia, Bama, Clemson.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Notre Dame, Ohio State. and a couple others.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Oh, and the Final Four was always the same four teams.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Oklahoma was always there with Lincoln Riley. They didn't get anywhere.
- 39:38Speaker 1: But I love that, and that makes me think there
- 39:41Speaker 1: could be another Indiana, and it could be even wilder
- 39:43Speaker 1: than Indiana.
- 39:44Speaker 2: All right, time to play a little game. Let's lighten
- 39:45Speaker 2: it up a little bit. This game, I'm not going
- 39:47Speaker 2: to give the name out yet, but Andrew, you know
- 39:49Speaker 2: one of the most popular things to do in sports
- 39:52Speaker 2: media is to play the Mount Rushmore game.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 2: It's really easy. You've got four heads. The fifth head.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Here it goes. The fifth head on Mount Rushmore.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Wow.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Innovative.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Yeah, innovative. The graphics department was up all night. So
- 40:05Speaker 2: here's the topic, Pearl.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 40:07Speaker 2: The Mount Rushmore, aka the fifth head, the five best
- 40:11Speaker 2: pass rushers in NFL history. Not defensive ends, not rush ends,
- 40:17Speaker 2: pass rushers. Now, we're going to go back and forth.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Okay. You go first, Paul. Start us off. Okay.
- 40:22Speaker 2: I think this is pretty easy. I think it's Lawrence Taylor,
- 40:25Speaker 2: and I don't think there's a lot of question there.
- 40:28Speaker 2: He's known for it. He's one of the best of
- 40:29Speaker 2: all time. I'm going Lawrence Taylor.
- 40:31Speaker 1: I mean, they had to change the way NFL offenses
- 40:33Speaker 1: work for this guy. The blind side is all about
- 40:35Speaker 1: blocking Lawrence Taylor. He almost murdered several Eagles quarterbacks. No debate.
- 40:39Speaker 1: That's a good number one. Okay, I'm going to go
- 40:41Speaker 1: number two. It's got to be my guy, Reggie White.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Probably the most talented pure defensive end. maybe the most
- 40:48Speaker 1: talented pass rusher of all time, number two all time
- 40:51Speaker 1: in sacks. And, you know, he started out in the
- 40:54Speaker 1: USFL ball. If he'd had his whole career in NFL,
- 40:56Speaker 1: he'd be number one.
- 40:57Speaker 2: And Reggie's prime was 15 years.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Minister of defense.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Easy choice.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 2: We like to go old school on the show. Show
- 41:02Speaker 2: our knowledge. Deacon Jones of the Rams. I think they
- 41:04Speaker 2: invented the stat sack because of him. I mean, he's
- 41:07Speaker 2: old school. He's on the Brady Bunch. That great episode.
- 41:09Speaker 2: You never forget. So we've got to put him in there.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Yeah, actually, someone went back and looked at the film.
- 41:14Speaker 1: He'd be third all-time in sacks if they'd counted it
- 41:17Speaker 1: before 82, and he had the head slap.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Four spot.
- 41:20Speaker 1: The head slap was awful.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Don't do that to me.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Okay, Bruce Smith has got to be number four. Yes. Obviously,
- 41:25Speaker 1: the numbers are there. But not only that, he led
- 41:27Speaker 1: the Bills to four straight Super Bowls. Yes, they lost,
- 41:30Speaker 1: but he was the face of that defense, and you
- 41:32Speaker 1: knew you had to stop Bruce Smith.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Okay, Pearl, we're bringing out the whiteboards now, and that
- 41:36Speaker 2: means it's business time. If we bring out the whiteboards,
- 41:38Speaker 2: we're serious.
- 41:39Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:39Speaker 2: The fifth head. You and I.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Oh, boy.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It's going sideways already. We have to collaborate. We don't
- 41:45Speaker 2: know who each other are picking. The control room doesn't
- 41:47Speaker 2: know who we're picking. We don't script it out. The
- 41:50Speaker 2: fifth best pass rusher of all time.
- 41:52Speaker 1: So we're going to write it down and.
- 41:54Speaker 2: You want to give me the 3-2-1?
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, then we debate who we should add. If we
- 41:58Speaker 1: have different names or if we have the same name.
- 42:00Speaker 2: I was thinking about... Here's the people I'm not adding.
- 42:03Speaker 2: It's not J.J.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Watt.
- 42:05Speaker 2: It's not Miles Garrett. I'm going to go with... Derek
- 42:08Speaker 2: Thomas of the Chiefs. Pure pass rusher. Taken too soon.
- 42:12Speaker 2: This guy was unstoppable. Derek Thomas.
- 42:14Speaker 7: Ooh, okay.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Okay, Derek Thomas. I looked long and hard at Michael Strahan.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Of course, set the single-season sack record. Joyce Peppers, outstanding player.
- 42:25Speaker 1: You know, Miles Garrett also. Aaron Donald from the interior.
- 42:29Speaker 6: Sure.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I went with Derek Thomas. We agree.
- 42:34Speaker 2: But you know what? That's natural cohesion, as they say
- 42:37Speaker 2: in the business.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Dude had seven sacks in a game, Paul. Seven in
- 42:40Speaker 1: one game. That's like Will Chamberlain scored 100. I think
- 42:43Speaker 1: they said, hey, is anyone going to block this guy?
- 42:46Speaker 1: He was awesome. I'm a big fan of Derek Thomas.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Lost him too soon. He's our first fifth head.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the debut of the fifth head. You could
- 42:54Speaker 2: play at home. I don't think they're going to do
- 42:55Speaker 2: anything different than Mount Rushmore, but it helps with the
- 42:57Speaker 2: old Mount Rushmore game. Before we wrap up, real quick,
- 43:00Speaker 2: this is the rando, a little rando. This is a
- 43:05Speaker 2: football practice facility, not for a college, but this is
- 43:07Speaker 2: Rowlett High School. My Eagles have a sick setup down
- 43:10Speaker 2: there in Rowlett, Texas. Before the game, if you're in Rowlett, Texas,
- 43:14Speaker 2: go to Sammy Lou's Home Cooking, but then stop by
- 43:17Speaker 2: the practice facility. This looks like the program down there.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that is not what my high school looked like, Paul.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Not at all. Not at all. That's Roland High School.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Our boys down there, the Eagles, down there, Roland, Texas.
- 43:28Speaker 2: All right, coming up next, a little constructive criticism, a
- 43:32Speaker 2: little warm takes. Those are done for the day, but
- 43:34Speaker 2: also the feel good. Stick around and maybe some Raiders news.
- 43:39Speaker 6: Good snap, good hold, and the kick is blocked!
- 43:44Speaker 5: Appalachian State has stunned the college football world! One of
- 43:50Speaker 5: the greatest upsets in sports history!
- 43:55Speaker 6: Blocked by Corey Lynch!
- 43:59Speaker 2: That is 19 years ago, 2007, 1AA, not SCS, 1AA
- 44:04Speaker 2: Appalachian State at number five, Michigan. That's legendary.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of like the football version of Villanova
- 44:09Speaker 1: beats Georgetown. I know that sounds like hyperbole.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Oh, it's great.
- 44:12Speaker 1: It was such a game changer. And there have been
- 44:15Speaker 1: other upsets like that, but Appalachian State's like the original.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Now, you have some news for us?
- 44:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Okay. NFL. Raiders, we knew this was coming.
- 44:22Speaker 1: They named Kirk Cousins as starter. That means Fernando Mendoza
- 44:25Speaker 1: will not start. I think the preseason Cousins outplayed Mendoza. Now,
- 44:30Speaker 1: I don't know if he's a placeholder, but I am
- 44:32Speaker 1: not surprised at all by this.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Not surprised. We'll chop this up a lot more tomorrow,
- 44:35Speaker 2: but I'm curious to see what the depth chart is
- 44:37Speaker 2: with second and third string and see what happens there.
- 44:41Speaker 2: First tweet coming in. Jack Silas, top five tailgate foods,
- 44:46Speaker 2: five worst. We could do an episode on this.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, listen, I don't know if I could
- 44:50Speaker 1: do five off the top of my head. We've done
- 44:52Speaker 1: a lot of tailgating. When we were on the Nissan
- 44:54Speaker 1: Heisman Tour, I have one.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Your one seat?
- 44:57Speaker 7: Yes.
- 44:58Speaker 1: If you have someone who can make ribs in the
- 45:00Speaker 1: parking lot, there is nothing better than.
- 45:02Speaker 2: A tailgate rib. Because that's a luxury item.
- 45:04Speaker 1: That's a luxury item, but in the SEC country, they
- 45:07Speaker 1: know how to do it. That's my number one tailgate.
- 45:09Speaker 2: You know, I'm with you on that. I will say, though,
- 45:11Speaker 2: if you can make a crock pot of chili and
- 45:13Speaker 2: have a power source in your truck, or whatever to
- 45:16Speaker 2: heat it back up and a warm crock pot of
- 45:18Speaker 2: chili that you can just ladle into that's up there
- 45:21Speaker 2: with me wings we'll get into the others but five
- 45:23Speaker 2: worse worse tailgate foods any any vegetables yeah we don't
- 45:26Speaker 2: need vegetables leave them at home they're not helping anybody
- 45:30Speaker 2: we're not here we're not here to go shred fest
- 45:32Speaker 2: we're here to eat questionable foods and watch some football
- 45:34Speaker 2: in that order yeah i.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Mean that should be a rule in the parking lot
- 45:38Speaker 1: is to say uh No whatever, no vegetables.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Yeah, they should swipe you, and if it brings vegetables,
- 45:44Speaker 2: you should go home. All right, more constructive criticism tomorrow.
- 45:46Speaker 2: But let's get to a little bit of leftovers. Here's
- 45:48Speaker 2: a story. Here's the Chiefs. Let's go with the Chiefs here.
- 45:51Speaker 2: The Chiefs tweeted out this. This is their official roster. Okay,
- 45:57Speaker 2: Brashard Smith and Ken Walker. Ken Walker, the running back?
- 46:01Speaker 1: Who's Ken Walker?
- 46:01Speaker 2: Is that a new guy?
- 46:03Speaker 1: I know Kenny Skywalker, the former New York Knick.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Is that former Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III?
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a radical change, Paul.
- 46:12Speaker 2: You know, I know people lose weight for the next season,
- 46:14Speaker 2: but he cut stuff off his name to make him
- 46:16Speaker 2: faster and more lean.
- 46:17Speaker 1: We just learned how to say Kenneth Walker III. We
- 46:20Speaker 1: can't say Ken Walker.
- 46:21Speaker 2: I've been saying Kenneth Walker III for so long. I
- 46:24Speaker 2: want my money back. I want all the time back
- 46:26Speaker 2: of Kenneth and the third. Ken Walker... It's streamlined, though.
- 46:31Speaker 1: No, it is pretty cool, but I don't like that.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Remember the actor Rob McElhenney changed his name to Robbie Mac?
- 46:37Speaker 2: Okay, so it's a trend.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and then, of course, the A-chan brothers have said,
- 46:43Speaker 1: this is how you actually pronounce our name. But this one,
- 46:46Speaker 1: it just seems like they're trying to confuse us. We
- 46:48Speaker 1: have enough trouble as is. Right.
- 46:50Speaker 2: If you do your fantasy football draft and you say,
- 46:51Speaker 2: I'm taking Ken Walker, you're going to be laughed out
- 46:53Speaker 2: of the room. But not so fast, it's Ken Walker now.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you're taking Ken Walker, the accountant, not the running back.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that sounds like a guy you went to college with,
- 47:01Speaker 2: Ken Walker, one of your frat brothers. All right, let's
- 47:03Speaker 2: get to the feel good. Make it feel good before
- 47:04Speaker 2: we wrap up Not So Fast for Wednesday.
- 47:07Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I love these guys. Bunch of bros in the stands
- 47:11Speaker 2: helping out a little guy.
- 47:12Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:13Speaker 2: They're talking to the center fielder. This is at the
- 47:15Speaker 2: Twins game. Oh, not so close.
- 47:17Speaker 1: First throw doesn't make it.
- 47:18Speaker 2: He's got the old Maurer jersey on for street cred.
- 47:20Speaker 1: All right. This kid needs a baseball, people.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Okay, help him out. Get the ball to him. He
- 47:28Speaker 2: didn't catch it, but he got it, and he got
- 47:29Speaker 2: the moment.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. I don't know if I like this trend, ball.
- 47:33Speaker 2: This trend is here. If you are a male over
- 47:36Speaker 2: 20 years old and you catch a foul ball or
- 47:38Speaker 2: a fly ball or a home run, You have.
- 47:40Speaker 1: To bring a glove to a baseball game. Can a
- 47:42Speaker 1: full-on adult bring a glove to a baseball game, Paul?
- 47:44Speaker 2: We'll dive into that tomorrow. That's it for us on
- 47:46Speaker 2: Not So Fast. Tune in on NBC Sports Now tomorrow.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Nicole Auerbach from NBC Sports joining us tomorrow. And the
- 47:53Speaker 2: Dan Patrick Show, 9 a.m. every day on NBC Sports Now.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Peacock and NBCSN. That's it. Catch a ball. Give it
- 47:59Speaker 2: to a kid. We're done.
