- 0:00Speaker 1: Now 9 till noon weekday.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Smart. Simone.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Only on 710WOR. Hey, let's take some calls. 800-321-0710 is
- 0:14Speaker 1: the number. Let's go to Brian in Miami. Brian, how
- 0:17Speaker 1: you doing?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Brian with the Y, that radioactive guy with
- 0:21Speaker 2: a great suggestion for you.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Now, were you on the radio? Were you on the radio?
- 0:25Speaker 2: For many years, 30 years in half a dozen cities.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You got that radio voice, that Florida sort of radio voice,
- 0:32Speaker 1: the chipper kind of.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Never in Florida except a brief stint up in Orlando,
- 0:36Speaker 2: mainly in Seattle and Detroit and San Francisco and other
- 0:40Speaker 2: bergs around the lower 48. Anyway, hey.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Let me just point out for the audience, if you're
- 0:47Speaker 1: outside of New York and you listen to the radio,
- 0:48Speaker 1: this is what you hear. Hey, good morning.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Hey.
- 0:51Speaker 1: They're too happy.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Well, I like being happy. I'm an old man, so
- 0:55Speaker 2: I don't want to be grumpy. Anyway, the squad, what
- 0:59Speaker 2: a banal name. Here's a much better name for those
- 1:02Speaker 2: laughable sisters that are up against Trump all the time.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Call them the Marx sisters, as in Carl with a K.
- 1:10Speaker 2: They are just as laughable, don't you think?
- 1:12Speaker 1: I like that. That's very good. The Marx sisters. You're
- 1:14Speaker 1: in Miami. What part of Miami are you in?
- 1:17Speaker 2: Plantation. Still down here on the plantation waiting for the
- 1:20Speaker 2: crops to be harvested.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Now, tell everybody how in Miami now, if you want
- 1:24Speaker 1: to go somewhere, you're stuck in gridlock all day and night.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, I stay off the freeways. I'm an old man,
- 1:29Speaker 2: and I drive like a grandma for the very simple
- 1:32Speaker 2: reason that grandmas live to a grand old age by definition,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and I've been doing so since my 20s, and that's
- 1:38Speaker 2: how I got to 72, Mark. And you've got a
- 1:41Speaker 2: dynamite show. Never retire, please.
- 1:44Speaker 1: All right. Thanks, Brian. Thanks for calling. Take care. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: once again, if you're outside of New York and you
- 1:49Speaker 1: listen to the radio, that's how they talk. Yeah, they
- 1:53Speaker 1: come on.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Hey, what are you doing? Talk radio. Well, we got this.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I know the latest on president. They used to talk
- 1:59Speaker 1: like that in New York a million years ago. Remember
- 2:02Speaker 1: the morning show? Good morning. Hey, Harry Harrison. They'd be
- 2:06Speaker 1: chipper and loud and good morning. I'm Ted Brown. Remember
- 2:10Speaker 1: all that's how they used to talk back then. Let's
- 2:12Speaker 1: go to Hildy in the Poconos. Hildy, how you doing?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Hi, Mark.
- 2:17Speaker 3: How are you? Good. Listen, first of all, I really
- 2:19Speaker 3: love the fact that you're on three hours every day now.
- 2:22Speaker 3: And here's a question I have, and I figured you
- 2:25Speaker 3: would probably be the only one to really answer this one.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 2:28Speaker 3: With the midterms being two weeks away and all of
- 2:33Speaker 3: the money that's being pumped into these ridiculous ads that
- 2:38Speaker 3: you see on TV, and they're ridiculous for both sides
- 2:41Speaker 3: of the aisle. Do they really make a difference? Like,
- 2:48Speaker 3: do people really watch those ads and take anything that
- 2:52Speaker 3: they hear seriously? Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, they do.
- 2:57Speaker 3: So the money is not wasted on any of those.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Well, the only time it's wasted, if you're Kathy Hochul,
- 3:03Speaker 1: she's too much on old-fashioned television. That's the problem. You know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: she's on Channel 5, Channel 4, very low viewership on
- 3:10Speaker 1: these shows. TV stations, the money would be better spent
- 3:14Speaker 1: on Instagram, TikTok, and all those places. But she's not
- 3:18Speaker 1: that sophisticated. All right, Hilde, thanks for calling. You know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the other thing is you've got these consultants that run
- 3:26Speaker 1: your campaign, and they do the ad buying, and they
- 3:29Speaker 1: get the commission on the ad buying. So they'll tell
- 3:33Speaker 1: you to buy everything. And if you buy it, we
- 3:36Speaker 1: need $ 2 million to advertise on TV, and they'll buy
- 3:38Speaker 1: the $ 2 million in ads. And It didn't help. So
- 3:43Speaker 1: the consultant will come back to you and say, well,
- 3:45Speaker 1: you know, $ 2 million is not really enough. You've got
- 3:47Speaker 1: to spend $ 4 million. They'll get another $ 4 million. No,
- 3:49Speaker 1: that's $ 6 million. They get the commission off all that.
- 3:51Speaker 1: That's like $ 600, 000 in their pocket right there. Actually, more probably.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It's probably like $ 1 million in their pocket. So, yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 1: old-fashioned TV ads, not that effective. You've got to be
- 4:02Speaker 1: on social media. You've got to be all over the Internet.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Radio is still pretty effective. It's actually proven to be
- 4:09Speaker 1: more effective than TV ads. And the thing with radio,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you can reach whoever you want. Let's say you're right
- 4:16Speaker 1: here on this floor. Let's say you come to iHeart
- 4:18Speaker 1: to advertise. I need to reach more Hispanic voters. Well,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you go down the hall, put your ads on KTU,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you reach them. I'm having trouble with the black voters. Well,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you go right over there to Power 105, you got them.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I need to reach whoever you need to reach. I'm
- 4:34Speaker 1: having trouble with young, young. You go down the hall
- 4:36Speaker 1: to Z100. Radio, much more targeted. Social media, the best.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Let's go to Diane in New Jersey. Diane, how you doing?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, hi there, Mark.
- 4:50Speaker 4: I'm pretty good. And yourself?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Let me check. Not bad, not bad.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Good.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Now, the reason I'm calling is earlier this morning you
- 4:58Speaker 4: were talking about the carriage horse vote.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 5:02Speaker 4: And I have a question for you. You only seem
- 5:05Speaker 4: to mention about how Only one person has been killed
- 5:10Speaker 4: over the years. But you don't seem to mention how
- 5:12Speaker 4: many horses have died from collapsing on the street. Oh,
- 5:15Speaker 4: that's a good point. These horses aren't cared for. As
- 5:19Speaker 4: a horse owner, I can tell just by what they
- 5:22Speaker 4: look like, their grooming status, whether they're cared for or not.
- 5:25Speaker 4: And believe me, a lot of them are not cared
- 5:26Speaker 4: for the way they should be.
- 5:28Speaker 2: No.
- 5:28Speaker 4: And in the summertime, we've got them collapsing on the street.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Nobody's talking about that, though.
- 5:33Speaker 1: You have maybe 2% collapsing.
- 5:37Speaker 4: One is too many.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:38Speaker 4: One is too many. As a horse owner, as a
- 5:41Speaker 4: horse owner, one is too many.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You're not wrong. That's a very, very good point. What
- 5:46Speaker 1: do you do with your horse?
- 5:46Speaker 4: Well, it's a quarter horse we do hunter jumper with
- 5:51Speaker 4: in New Jersey. And to me, knowing the cost, what
- 5:55Speaker 4: it costs to maintain a horse.
- 5:57Speaker 1: All right. Let me ask you a question. Sincerely. Isn't
- 6:00Speaker 1: that kind of cruel? You're sitting on this horse, making
- 6:02Speaker 1: him jump and do this and.
- 6:05Speaker 4: They're bred for that. They're bred for jumping. They're high jumpers.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I guarantee you, if I could talk to the horse,
- 6:13Speaker 1: he'd say to me, hey, it's enough with the jumping.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Well, the point I have, I know of sanctuaries in
- 6:18Speaker 4: upstate New York that are willing now to take some
- 6:21Speaker 4: of these horses and give them a great life.
- 6:23Speaker 1: What do they do with the horses in the sanctuary?
- 6:26Speaker 4: They let them live their life in family units and
- 6:30Speaker 4: let them live out in the fields grazing, not as workhorses.
- 6:35Speaker 4: and they get to live their life as a horse
- 6:37Speaker 4: should be, not parading around the household streets of New
- 6:41Speaker 4: York City.
- 6:41Speaker 1: If one of these horses goes to the sanctuary, can
- 6:44Speaker 1: he brag to the other horses, well, I used to
- 6:45Speaker 1: be in New York City. I used to ride right
- 6:47Speaker 1: down Fifth Avenue.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Well, there's a lot of racehorses that end up there
- 6:50Speaker 4: because that's another industry that we need to get rid of.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Did you know that the racehorses, when racehorses have a foal,
- 7:00Speaker 4: that the mare, they get... They don't feed their own foal.
- 7:06Speaker 4: They bring in what's called a wet mare. They bring
- 7:08Speaker 4: in a mare that had another foal that they ended
- 7:10Speaker 4: up abandoning just to come in and feed the ones
- 7:14Speaker 4: that are considered prized horses.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I've got to be honest.
- 7:17Speaker 4: So then you end up with a bunch of foals
- 7:18Speaker 4: that are abandoned.
- 7:19Speaker 1: This is getting too complicated. This is too much horse knowledge. But, no,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you seem to know this stuff.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Well, I'm sorry, but you need to know. People need
- 7:25Speaker 4: to know about it. And horse racing is a very
- 7:27Speaker 4: dirty business.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It's very dirty. Very good points, Diane. Excellent points.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Okay.
- 7:32Speaker 1: You did teach us a lot. Thanks for calling. Take care. Oh,
- 7:36Speaker 1: when we come back, the greatest pollster of all. Forget
- 7:39Speaker 1: the fake public polls with the rigged metrics. We'll get
- 7:42Speaker 1: the real numbers next. We'll talk to John McLaughlin coming
- 7:45Speaker 1: up on 710WOR.
