- 0:01SPEAKER_03: Hello, I'm Shelly Duvall.
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: Welcome to Fairy Tale Theater.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: Hello, hello, and welcome to another episode of a really good podcast with Greg and Liz, and one that is sure to bring up some really horrifying memories for you.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Well, let me let me say something there.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: So when I was young, I peeked in on two separate movies and immediately regretted it.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: It was my fault, right?
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Because these movies were horrific as advertised.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: And those two movies were Pet Cemetery and It.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, jeez.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so and I remember like the sister in Pet Cemetery, she's all twisted and she had some kind of spinal disease.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: And it was terrifying.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Did you have anything like that?
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, like twisted, like physically twisted?
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Like disease.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: I never saw Pet Cemetery.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, do yourself a favor.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: That's what we're saving that for October.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, good idea.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: But this is this is something like.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Have you did you have anything like that?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Were you peeked in something a little too soon, knowing it was supposed to be scary?
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Not scary, definitely like adult themed things.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: Like I tried to watch Pretty Woman for five years, but Okay, alright.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: Horror movies, no, I was not really fiending to do that.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Alright, good, because we're not talking about that.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Because what we're going to talk about today is unintentional horror.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Things that creeped us out as kids that were incredibly unsettling, but that wasn't the intention when it was made.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: And most times it was marketed to children.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So first, before we get into our examples, let's talk about what it means to be creepy.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Do you like first of all, did you think think about the Uncanny Valley?
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Did you know?
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: I looked it up.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: You asked me to look it up, and I did.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm a student that I am.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: The gist I got is that you either need to nail the human form or not even try at all.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: And that's kind of where Uncanny Valley lies in, in that they almost get to normal and human, but not quite.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: It kind of reminded me a little bit of these new AI things that people are talking about.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Such a great I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: So or not even that, even when it's like you see these things on Facebook when it's like, hey, this is Homer Simpson, and this is what Homer Simpson would look like in real life, and you're like, oh my God, that's our that's your uncanny value.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: And that's creepy.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be an element of what we're talking about here, but creepiness is something a little different.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: So creepiness is a biological reaction to something you're not terrified.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: So it's not fight or flight, but there's something that's just a little bit off.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: It's like the the ambiguity of it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: There's something so like it's unsettling.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: It's unsettling.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Like imagine you're in a gas station and you're pumping gas and it's late at night and a guy gets out of his car and maybe he's just like soaking wet or something like that.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Like there's just this It's this thing where it's it's a violation of expectation.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Like things are going along the way they're supposed to be, but for something is just a little off a little bit.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I bring that the guy's gonna be wet example, but it's just something's wrong with it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: So be the reason why that clicks into my mind is because one time I shook a guy's hand and it was wet and I was really creeped out.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And it's because this thing that we're talking about, this violation of expectation.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Something's just a little bit off.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Was it wet or sweaty?
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: I mean like because if it's wet, that's like a whole weird thing, unless he just washed his hands.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: And then you should say thank you.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Or dry them next time.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: It kind of reminds me of you know that movie Smile that just came out?
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: So, not obviously it's a horror movie, so it's not the same thing, but the concept of just like seeing people smiling at you all over the place is so incredibly terrifying to me.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: When it when it doesn't match, and we'll talk about this actually.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: This it's like when the affect or the way your your the smile or the face you're making it doesn't match the mood or the situation.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Or if even like sometimes we'll talk about when the smile is like way too big.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Or a teddy bear with teeth.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I've seen that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: Like Sonic when he had teeth.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: It's like And they have to like revamp the whole thing.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Polar Express is a good example of that.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: That was on my list of unintentional horror.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: All right, well, listen, let's get into our examples here.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: We we've we've compiled a few different things that we've come across.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: That you you've come across as a child, and you're like, what am I looking at here?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Like it's very strange.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: And now you're like, I cannot believe that this was actually a thing that people put forward.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and when you show it to your kids, which I showed most of this to my kids.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Just to get the reactions and just to make sure, like, yeah, that's creepy.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Let me damage them the way I was.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: I went through the whole list and Crosby was like, yeah, we can listen to that, we can watch that, we can do that.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: And I was like, No.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: I just kept picturing, and like, spoiler alert, we're gonna do return to us.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: And I just kept picturing like the electric shock and all this stuff.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: I was like, this isn't really appropriate.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And the first not really appropriate or you know, violation of expectations is the Willy Wonka scene when they're getting they're in that tunnel and they start going really fast, and Willy Wonka is reciting this insane poem.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: And at the end, he's screaming it, right?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And there's like horrific imagery, there's a millipede crawling.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: What does he say in the end of the poem?
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Something about like the devil or Satan or something.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: The poem is essentially about something doesn't feel right about this situation.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: The situation is becoming more and more dangerous.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: I almost wrote it and I was gonna recite it, and I was gonna try to scream at the end.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: But then I was like, no.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: This is not that kind of thing.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: So one of the things I found out, they decapitate a chicken.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why?
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: And they actually did that.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: They actually did that.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: And they said that it was one of the only instances of actually killing an animal in film.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know now, maybe it's I don't know.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: I would imagine now it's even less acceptable.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: But listen, there's another part of that is the millipede crawling across the guy's face.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: They had a hard time finding someone to do that too.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: You're gonna let someone do that to you?
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Slugworth was in the video.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: Especially like, I'm sure they didn't pay anyone anything.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: That is an extremely creepy, out-of-the-blue part of Willy Wonka.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: But what's also kind of unsettling about Willy Wonka is are the kids being killed off one by one?
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Well, I think that they're okay because he's always like, oh, they're fine, they're fine.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: But yeah, he's they're fine, but they don't seem fine.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: That said that maybe the tunnel was actually supposed to be, this is a theory, it's not actually proven, was supposed to be Willy Wonka trying to weed out the people that couldn't handle running the candy factory.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: I think that's which I think the whole movie is that, but I don't think that would make sense because you would have had it weed out someone like every other thing did.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And Augustus Kloop was under that chocolate water for a really long time.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: I know, I know.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: And the yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad you brought up that weird smile thing in the beginning, because we're moving on to the next thing.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: And this is a doozy.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: So the Black Hole Sun music video and the land of confusion music video.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: So first, oh also, before we talk about either of those, have you remember that commercial, the Duracell family?
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: I do, yes.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: I actually watched a few of them.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: This fits into that too.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Because it's just a little off.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Why are they plastic?
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Why well they're toys.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Think about like closing your eyes and waking up in this horrible nightmare where everyone's kind of like plastic looking like that.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: I just you know what it kind of reminds me, and it's not the same thing, but like coralline.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Do you remember coralline?
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, button eyes.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like how she just went through the thing and all of a sudden everybody's just kind of creepy.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: It's probably kind of like that.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: It would be exactly like that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: But so this thing is where the uncanny value really sets in.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: So this is almost human.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: This black hole.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Black hole sign, yeah.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: But then their their mouths get really big.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Distorted.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Distorted, right?
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: The smile doesn't match the mood like we talked about.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: And it feels kind of like because they're smiling really big, but the song's kind of like melodramatic and scary, so it's deceptive and feels kind of dangerous.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: It's very 90s.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Could it have been a one-hit wonder?
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Hell no.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, you mean if it wasn't Soundgarden?
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Well, like it is Soundgarden.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Soundgarden is like Soundgarden have other hits?
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Hits though, remember?
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Not to get into the whole one-hit wonder.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Spoon man.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Never heard of it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Tons of other ones.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you right now.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: I may not be a, but I know Chris Cornell is a very good artist.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: You were gonna take some heat on that one.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't know.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: All right, well, let's go to this next video.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Lando Confusion music video.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: This is Genesis?
- 7:21unknown: Yeah.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: So this was listed as a different artist.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: It was like disturbed or something.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they have a different song, but the literal artist on the video was disturbed.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I think that could have been was a description of the video.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Is that Phil Collins?
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Which, by the way, I do appreciate there is a puppet, Phil Collins, and they didn't try to give him more hair.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: He was still balding, even the puppets.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: They made him somehow even more ugly.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Phil Phil Collins, that's terrible.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Do you remember how videos were introduced by the Criptkeeper?
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: No.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: So I would have watched my my cousins were way older, and we would watch videos in their basement, and some videos were introduced by the Criptkeeper, and I remember the Criptkeeper introducing this video, watching this video, and then being completely relieved that I was back to the Criptkeeper.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: That's how creepy this is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in my life.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it really was.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: It's like Ronald Reagan.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Ronald Reagan.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say it looked like Ronald Reagan, but I wasn't sure if he was really in the.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, the monkey's like in the bed, and then he drowns in the water.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Wet puppets?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Wet puppets.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I it's just this whole thing is extremely disturbing.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: It's nightmarish.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: What would it like?
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Did you have a visceral reaction to this or is it just me?
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Well, I was at the tr on the treadmill at the gym.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: So Okay, so wasn't that bad for you?
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I was in the in my basement in the dark, and I was like, I shut it off halfway through, and I was like, I I don't know if I could do that.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I shut off the lights when I watched a lot of them.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: But no, I mean it was definitely creepy.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: I think though, I hadn't seen a lot of these, so probably there's also the factor of you having watched them when you were younger.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Did I ever tell you about that n recurring nightmare I had?
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: I would have this nightmare that I would go to sleep, of course, as all nightmares tend to start.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: And I I would like be walking down the street or something, and I would trip and I would get hurt.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: And I wouldn't be able to get up right away.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: And then puppets would come out and point and laugh at me.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: That's an 80s kid for you.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm telling you right now, like if I ever I don't know what to do with that.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: So that video was really I mean, it might be.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: It was probably from that video.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: It was more of like your uh Oscar the Grouch types.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Laughing at me.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: You know, like those Fraggle Rock, the uh Fraggle Rock.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Talk about unintentional art.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: What's the other Eureka's Castle?
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: That's another one.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: But the giants.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Very scary.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Very scary.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But in Fraggle Rock, the guys that were in the junkyard, like those huge giant things.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I don't like any of that.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: No, not into that.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: All right, let's move right along here.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the brave little toaster.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: What's your history with this?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: You got nothing.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Nothing.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: I was like, can I skip this?
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Because I can't watch a 90-minute cartoon.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna come out on this one.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: I hate cartoons, and I could not have sat through it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: I actually sat through the trailer and was like, this doesn't even look scary.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: So listen, there's a radio, there's a lamp, there's a heated blanket, and a vacuum.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: And they're all friends.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: This is early 90s?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is like late 80s.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: I feel like the heated blankets really had a moment.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they did.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: But these things, they're they're these little objects, and they pretend to be inanimate when their master isn't around.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And they call them if master's not here, so we have to like.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, I did see that, yeah.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: So what is that?
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: That is that's Toy Story.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: This is Toy Story on crack.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's Toy Story, and then someone was like, wouldn't it be better if it was with toys instead of like the vacuum?
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, instead of household appliances.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: But it's the same kind of thing.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And so why this is part of the the horror, and if the kids who have seen this, I'm calling them kids, but they're gonna know what I'm talking about.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: The kids four-year-olds.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: They're the all the little appliances are like, we're gonna get out of here and we're gonna go find the master because he must be sad.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: He's missing us.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: It's all like cobwebs, it's very dark in the city.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: And the master is like a seven-year-old boy.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: So there's why is he the master?
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Because like it makes sense with Andy, because no, he doesn't.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: He needs to have toast and be stay warm.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, he doesn't need a vacuum, though.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: I I guess.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: But what they they're saying, like, we're gonna go do this, and the air conditioner's like, that's dumb, you guys shouldn't do that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: And then the pretty little toaster, not you know, being naive as he is, is like, well, you just you're just mad because you're stuck in the wall.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: And the air conditioner loses it, screams at him.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Wouldn't they all be stuck in the wall?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Well, no, because he's an air conditioner.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: These guys are all appliances.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like they're free to go.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: Like a toaster needs electricity.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: No, but he's alive.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: It's just all a kind of a fake thing that he's fitting it.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: You need to watch this.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: The air conditioner gets so mad that he screams and he explodes, and he and then when the all the smoke clears, it's just like a broken down air conditioner with like no face, dead.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Heart attack.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I think.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: A heart attack?
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I mean That's your interpretation.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: That's my interpretation.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: And he also also has a dreams about all the things that would be horrifying to a toaster, like forks and like wood bathtubs filled with water.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: Like scary stuff like that.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: A bathtub filled with water is more dangerous for the people in the bath as opposed to the actual toaster.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: It does have a weird association with toasters, though.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Like if it was of all the appliances, a hairdryer would be a much more likely thing to fall in a bathtub.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: That makes sense, actually.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: And there's a clown scene.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, there you go.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's uh really.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Say no more.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Say no more.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: So now we're gonna move on to one of those.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, I think we're both ready for this.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: And I think people are dying for this.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'll let you even start this.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you think?
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: So the next we're gonna do is fairy tale theater, which trying to spell fairy in fairy tale theater, it's F-A-E-R-I-E.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, there they they went old English on it.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: They went old English, yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: And also I learned from our tink post, our tinkerbell posts, you know, you remember from the episode.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Somebody called them the Faye, the fairies, and I love that.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Are we sure that's the plural of fairies?
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Or if somebody commented on our post, so I believe it.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I think they were wearing little wings in their profile picture too.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: They look like they were part of the Fae.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: So we didn't really specifically pick one.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: I watched half of The Snow Queen, which took an exact scene out of the never ending story.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: In the very beginning, there's this like troll man, gremlin gnome kind of thing, whatever it is.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: All of them.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: And he's on this, this like little like square of glass, and he's shooting all over space.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: And it reminded me exactly of the never ending story when they went to see those gnome people.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Do you remember?
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: And he was like, basically, most of the things on here could have been taken straight out of the never ending stories.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Well, speaking of the story, I'll tell you what, what's unintentional and horrific is Shelly Duval.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And just the way she like comports herself.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Did you look up like what Shelly Duval's tie-in with this was?
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Because she hosted, she sometimes stars in it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: She had two roles in Rapunzel, I noticed.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we should talk about Rapunzel.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Rapunzel was the only I watched the whole thing of Rapunzel, and I would say the scariest thing in all of it was the radish.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: The radish nightmares?
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: The radish nightmare.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: Talk about the most basic fucking vegetable to make this whole thing about.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Like a radish doesn't even taste like anything.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And it's like, where are you that you can get chocolate for fondue, but you can't get a radish.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: She's having severe cravings for radishes to the point where the husband has to go into their haunted neighbor's garden and he steals radishes.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: And like it didn't look like he took that many.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: She's making pies for weeks.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: I will say they made the radishes look so good that I remember craving radishes as a child.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Like really?
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: After watching this?
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Because after watching it, yeah, because it looks so beautiful.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: He never had a craving for a radish.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: So then it's Jenna Rowlands, who I love, you know, was the witch.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: She is the old lady in the notebook.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: So she's the witch.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Jeff Bridges is the prince and also the dad.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: So was there some kind of budgetary?
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: This is like a Tyler Perry situation where like Shelly Duval was the original Tyler Perry.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Shelly Duval presents fairy tale theater starring Shelly Duval.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Wait, what was the other thing?
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: But the thing is though, when he steals the radishes, he gets caught and the witch is like, Well, you know what?
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: I'll just take your firstborn child.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't think that's a fair trade.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: That does not seem like a fair trade.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Wait, oh my god, how about the one she's craving the radishes and they're in bed together, her and the husband, and she's like, I'm just really craving radishes.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: And he's like, Are you sure you don't want a cucumber?
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: And then tries to go in.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh my god.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: I was like, Am I does he mean that?
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: No, he does because then he goes to like stuck with her and she's like, not now.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: I definitely messed up.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: You know what this reminds me of though?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Like when the the first born child is the Rupple Stiltskin movie that was kind of around at that at this same time.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: What a nightmare.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Rubble stilt skin is a fucking.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Stop trying to take people's kids for like very mundane things.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: I did think it was interesting in the end of, I don't know if this is like the original Rapunzel story, but I noticed at the end when Jeff Ridges he gets pushed out of the tower and then goes blind.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: And like that's it.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Bleeds from the eyes goes blind and then wanders for a couple months.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: And so Rapunzel has been banished to the desert, and he just stumbles upon her in the desert playing in a little tent with her two twins.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: So they obviously like hooked up in the tower, too.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Honestly, how where does Shelly Duvall get off playing Rapunzel?
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, olive oil was fine.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: I mean standard of beauty has changed.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: I was actually kind of thinking the standard of beauty has changed.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Like you could be not that cute and like be a star.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: There is something about her.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: There is something about her.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: I think she was great as the host, but then in the Snow Queen one, it was Melissa Gilbert was the lead.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: So she wasn't even in the thing.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: So I wonder if maybe at some point they were like, you know, Shelly.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: I know, Shelly.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: Maybe we gotta bring in.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: You're juggling a lot of things with me.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: But do you do you remember the Frog Prince one with Robin Williams?
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: I do a little bit.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: That was name.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Pinocchio.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Was that Pee-Wee?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: That was Pee-Wee Herman.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Look at that.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: It was still talking about him as Pee-wee.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: To reiterate from the Punky Brewster episode, always known as Pee-wee Herman.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Well, he just, I mean, he's completely Pee-wee in this episode too.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you what, the only thing that takes away from the horror is the Italian accents that they go with.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: They try to do that thing where it's like, so they they're saying your nose is going to grow.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: But all they do is add that A, like your nose is uh gonna grow.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: You know, that that's what they do throughout the whole episode.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: That's like uh, right?
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So I mean, but Pee-wee was like, that was a shock for me.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: I turned on the Pinocchio and I was like, Pee-wee.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I didn't even watch it, but in my head I had that like in there.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Do you remember, and one last thing with the fairy tales?
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: I remember my parents, and I had to look up who the guy was, and it's Ron Pearlman, the guy who was like Sons of Anarchy.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: He has this like very distinct face.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, like a square.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: It was an adult Beauty and the Beast show.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Oh man, this guy was like he looks like the Beast already.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Beauty and the Beast, that reminds me.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Another unintentionally.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: It was like a sexy beauty and the Beast.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Do you remember the sexy Beauty and the Beast?
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Like the real one, the TV show?
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: I think that's what we're talking about.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Linda Hamilton.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: This was it.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: This wasn't fairy tale theater.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: But this was Sexy Beauty and the Beast because I remember I was talking about Ron Pearlman because I remember my my parents would go in their room and watch and be like, this isn't the Beauty and the Beast for you.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: No, this is the one it was on like TV.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: It was like a syndicated TV show.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's Ron Pearlman as the Beast.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: No, it's not.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: All right, we're gonna have to like check into that later.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: You're gonna apologize on a real.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: We're gonna make you wait.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: And Ron Pearlman.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Never mind.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she was like a DAC.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: I remember that.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: That's the one I was thinking about, too.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh okay.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: So then you know what?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: There is no Beauty and the Beast with Ron Pearlman.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: And I just made that whole thing up, I think.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: No, there was.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: There was a Beauty and the Beast for Fairy Tale Theater.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: This was just a TV show.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: I put us off topic.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Wait, to go back to the Pinocchio with Pee Wee Herman, should that transition into the Pee Wee Herman one?
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: We could do that.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, because Pee that is great.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Pee-wee has two spots in this.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: So he's so in Pee-Wee's big advice.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: We're bringing him back.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: We're bringing him back.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: The Large Marge scene.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: The Large Marge scene.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: And you know what's great about the scene is the speech is so awesome.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And it's when when she's like, it was a night, just like I kind of forget the movie.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: I only watched the large marge scene.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Well, that's all you really need to know for this.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: So the large marge scene is she's he's hitchhiking and he gets into the truck with his trucker and she's saying, like, there was a night just like this.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: And I I saw the worst crash I ever seen, and it sounded like a garbage truck falling off the Empire State Building.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: And then when she looked in, it looked like this, and she faces him, and it's like this Tim Burton stop motion.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: And when I was a kid, that blew me away.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: So that just came.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: So you're That's a jump scare right there.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Listen, you're already on edge in this movie with Francis and like they're chewing black gum, and there's a lot of like Oh, the black gum.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of weird things going on in this.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: He takes and then he goes right from that, and it's like and he's like dancing in the bar.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: But I mean, this scene was terrifying as a kid for me.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I remember it being scary.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: I just don't really remember the actual movie.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I mean it's Tim Burton, so the whole thing's kind of creepy.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Is it Tim Burton?
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: It's Tim Burton.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I mean you can realize that.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: It's got Tim Burton written all over it.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: It looks like the kids are.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Tim Burton's still making movies?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: He's making Beatles too as we speak.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: With Jenna Ortega.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: It's just it's kind of tight casting.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Actually, you know what?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I think she's almost like the catalyst for this thing.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: I think that they see her as Wednesday and they're like, we get yeah, this is a green, green light because she f I mean she's kind of perfect for it.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And I didn't see Wednesday.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I saw the interesting dance.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: Wednesday was good.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, did you?
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I liked it.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: I was into it actually.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: I didn't think I would be because I'm not like a huge Adams family fan, but it reminded me a little bit of Veronica Mars, which is one of my favorite TV shows, which I'm at some point going to make you watch the entire first season because it's the best first season of television ever.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: But she's like a teen crime solver.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: In Wednesday?
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's like a mystery that she has to uncover.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all right.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I might be into it now.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, it it's good.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: It's a lot more than just her being weird out of school.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Well give it a shot.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: I'll give it a shot.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: And with that said, let's move on to the next one.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Everyone's favorite.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: I think this is the one people are looking at.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: This was the inspiration for this episode.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Before we even say what it is, can I ask you this?
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Is there anything in the world scarier than Victorian psychiatry?
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: No, nope.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Sure is not.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: Sure is not.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, of course, we're talking about return to Oz here.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Return to Oz, which almost had its own episode, but I think we can just get through it on here.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you want me to just go through what's scary about this and then you can talk about what you need to?
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: We can just go through it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: What do you want to talk about first?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: I literally my first question is do you think the trauma of Dorothy going to Oz and coming back made her lose 10 years off?
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, I knew you were gonna mention that.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: And there's nothing scary about that, but I will say it's very noticeable.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Like, why is she so young?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you why.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Because young, what's her name?
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: The girl.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, craft, she walks in and they're like, You're you fit perfectly into whatever we're doing here.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: No, like I wasn't.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: She should have been older?
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: She should have been, I mean, how old was 16.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Judy.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: I don't think she was really 16.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: No, that's not right.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Garland.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: Judy Garland.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: Judy Garland was 16 when they found that.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: I think she was supposed to be 16 as Dorothy.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: I don't think she was actually 16.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: She was probably like 27.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: I want to guess like they're both supposed to be 16 and Judy Garland was like 20 and Fruza Balk was 13.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Or 10.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: She looks really young.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Just really young.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: So this isn't real, right?
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, what do you mean by that?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Did she actually get the electric shock therapy and this is her imagining that?
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: I think that it's up for your interpretation.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Was Oz a figment of her imagination after her head trauma?
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: After like in a hurricane.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: So I mean a hurricane, a tornado, whatever.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: That's up to you to decide.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Like it's the what kind of person are you?
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: The kind of person that wants to believe that this was real.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, there was a key that said Oz.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Yep, yep.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: My thing was everybody was different.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: The scarecrow was different.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: They called him the Tin Woodsman instead of the Tin Man.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Although I did read that what they tried to do with this one was stick closer to the actual books.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: For example, when she's going there and she's like, oh, this is the desert.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: I can't remember what it was called.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: The desert where you like you die if you touch the sand.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: Apparently that was in the first book.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: But they just never talked about it.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the books are a lot different.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: I I did read the books.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: And in the books, the wheelers.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: How do you have time?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: The the books, the wheelers, their wheels are made out of the same material as fingernails and toenails.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Oh God.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: That is.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Also, TikTok, you know that guy?
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: When he winds down, that's the I know, I know, I know.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: When he winds down, he gets violent and lustful.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: But listen, you're an Oz.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: It's different than reality.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: When you get tired, you don't get lustful.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's the opposite of what happens, I think, most cases.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: But that's really creepy.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: The Wheelies was hands down the scariest part in this movie.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Beware the Wheelers, written as a graffiti.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: Do you think the Wheelers were supposed to be kind of like the monkeys from the first movie?
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think there must have been some kind of like MGM had if they didn't go straight from the book, maybe they had rights to certain things and they couldn't use it.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: The cowardly lion was a legit lion that didn't even talk.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: What's up with that?
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: It's stumped.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: It's like that's what's going on.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: How could you have more technology in the 30s to do this stuff or whatever than you have here?
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Well, in the 30s, it was just a guy in a lion suit.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: I know, but that's what I mean.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Like, why not just do it again?
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, wanna know why?
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Because it worked.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: So I I don't know.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Maybe maybe after he got courage, he turned into a real lion.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Well, listen, with this one, and I'll tell you what's scary about this, even the good guys are creepy, so they got the pumpkin.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Pumpkin head.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: The pumpkin head's a big thing.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: The moose guy.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, something about the chicken rubs me the wrong way.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: No, how about how the guy's like super anti-chicken?
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: The whole thing is like his allergies to chicken.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because he can die.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: Like, what's up with that?
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's just like, was this something put out by like the beef industry?
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Just trying to make chickens look bad.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Wait, how about the scene?
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: The aunt just takes her to this mental institution, is like, bye.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this seems cool.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: She's like, I gotta get out of here.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: She goes in there and then Is this Aunt M?
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: That's Aunt M.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: That's Auntie M.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Dude, what did she gotten mean?
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and the tornado changed her.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: Speaking of getting younger, she's about 30 years younger than Auntie M in the other one.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Uncle Henry's passing away.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, what's going on here?
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: When they show up and it's the lunch pail trees, those creep me out, even though.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, the lunch pail trees, and there's a ham sandwich in it.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Like you have ham sandwiches hanging in these apple-shaped lunch pails.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Wrapped in plastic.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Wrapped in plastic.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Like, where are we?
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: What is happening?
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: You don't have anything here.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: The yellow brick road is in tatters.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: That's part of it that makes it creepy too.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: It's like this thing that you loved and was so beautiful as a kid is like apocalyptic now.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Like everything's destroyed.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's just so creepy.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: This movie throughout is just so creepy and it never lets up.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: From beginning to end.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Now, the heads.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the heads.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, talk about them.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: In the room, a roof of her heads is creepy.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: How do you pick a head?
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Like, what would your feelings like?
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Like, is it like what do I want my hair color to be today?
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: What is the hairstyle?
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Do I want to be because some of them are old.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: It seemed like she mostly took young women's heads.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Who are you trying to impress?
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, like her self-esteem is very important to her.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Who's head which how do you pick a head that's not?
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: It doesn't seem like she has much self-esteem.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: If you're beheading people to make fake heads for you, it seems like I don't see what the point of that is.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: That's part of the problem, too.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Like, why are you doing this?
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: Like it doesn't really seem to benefit you.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: You all look the same, too.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Was one of the heads supposed to be the lady who did the electric shock in the beginning?
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, maybe.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: What about the girl in the mirror?
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Was she real?
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: She was the queen of Oz, except there wasn't a Queen of Oz.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Was there?
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Was she Glinda?
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: This would have been a great prequel.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: This one has a lot of holes in it.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: But Plata Plata loved this.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: No, they love this.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I think if it doesn't have the word Oz in it, I don't think anybody watches it.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: I know, I know.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: But I think we were baited into it.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: What were they?
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: I tried to look it up and see what was the thought process here.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: And it just seemed like well, I guess they couldn't do it for a long time.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Something happened with the rights or something where they took the money.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: They couldn't even use the shoes, I don't think.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, there's no Ruby slipper.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: They took out every single element that's like You know what it reminded me of?
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: It's like when you go to that what's that like that amusement park where it's all like the fairy tale people and like you see Humpty Dumpty and all that stuff?
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Santa's Village?
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Something like that, right?
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: But you go about Santa's Village.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Storylander.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Storyland.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: So you go there and you're thinking, like, oh, I'm gonna see Humpty Dumpty, I'm gonna see all these guys, and you get there and they're like dusty and like the paint's dripping on them, and you're like, I know this is what you know they did to the Wizard of Oz.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Now this is like the dusty version of it.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: There's like these creepy little houses.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: Have you been to Storyland in St.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Disney?
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: When I was a little kid.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: You should take your kids there this summer.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: I think I will.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: It was fun.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: It's cute.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: You got anything else on this thing?
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: Let me see.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, also Jack constantly talking about his mom.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: That was weird.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: It is weird.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: And a little sad.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: It was like he's got some abandonment issues.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, being like, Mom, is that you?
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: Mom?
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is it's a lot.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: What is happening?
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: It is a lot.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: You're a pumpkin.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: I showed it to my kids.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: They didn't know what to do with it.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: Were they like creeped out?
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: No, they were like, what is this?
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Did it start?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Like, what is it about?
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Like, that's like the whole thing.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: Is this a trick?
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: So the next one for me is like, I feel like I'm I'm having all these childhood memories and you're not, you're not really having any.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Did was this a part of it?
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Was this the next one a part of it?
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: Dumbo, I never watched Dumbo.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: You never watched Dumbo.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: You know that, like, not to out myself again because I know that this is like gonna make me sound like I'm have no heart or whatever.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: I'm not an animal person.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: So you used to watch them on the screen.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: Well, no, like I will a little bit, but you also know I hate cartoons.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: So now I'm like watching cartoon animals.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: And also, not for nothing, it's super racist.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: It's really mean.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: They're super blank.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: They like separate the mom, the mom dies, they separate him from the mom.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: It is sad.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: It's sad in the beginning.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: It's they're rude.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: Classic.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: I just there's the whole thing with the apes.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Don't remember that.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: But the scene that you showed, I did not feel was very good.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding me?
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Because the one part was when all the elephants made one elephant.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: So we're talking about the scene in Dumbo, pink elephants on parade.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: And if you had to take the time to watch the movie, you would say that you would be a big one.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, I've seen Dumbo as a kid.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: It's like we talked about in the beginning, like that this is a violation of expectations.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: You're watching a movie about an elephant, it's really sad, he's going through all this stuff, and then all of a sudden, you're on like a hallucinogenic trick here.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: This is what's like they're drunk.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm not sure.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Dumbo's drunk and his friend, the little mouse is that's what I would have to be to watch.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: And it just gets weirder and weirder and weirder.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Sometimes the elephants' faces get really mean.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Sometimes they're like dancing like seductively.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: It's just it's a strange thing.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: We don't have to spend a lot of time in it.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: But I think like work through it.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: This is like a good therapist.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're like, what am I watching?
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Like I was saying as of myself as a kid, what am I watching?
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Like, did I pass out and wake up and we're watching a different movie?
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, but but I have to say, it was really well done and kind of awesome.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I know for the when when was Dumbo?
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Like the 50s, 60s, 40s?
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: One of those.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: 70s.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Literally, it could be any.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: It was the 1912s.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, it doesn't it could be any.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: I I want to say like Snow White was in the 30s, so after that.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Talk about a snooze vest.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, what do you want?
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is like that was the first full-length animated film.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sure was.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: So all right, we'll move on because now you had to have seen Labyrinth.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: I don't know that I did.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: You didn't see Labyrinth?
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I don't know.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, did you at least watch the Labour?
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: I wanted to watch the whole movie.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: I was gonna watch the whole movie, but it wasn't anywhere, and I didn't want to pay for it.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I feel like it's a little tough because like we want people to be able to like experience this.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: So like I'm trying to avoid watching anything that we have to pay for, besides an ever-ending story, because it's smart.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: But you can you can watch the clip called Chilly Down.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: I did watch and it was all I needed to see.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: It was exactly it sounds like David Bowie was like, I'm gonna just he did some drugs and he was like, What can I come up with here?
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Because he made the song, right?
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Well, not this, I don't think specifically this song, but he has some songs in there that are actual, I would uh that are on my playlist.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Because they I mean David Bowie's awesome.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: And not to mention what I noticed watching this as an adult and not to be crass, he's wearing essentially leggings and he's he's doing pretty good for himself.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: This is true.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: Nice and toned.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, I no, that's not what I'm talking about.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, like well-endowed.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: And it's and it's just dancing around the kids.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: It's sexy labyrinth.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: It really is like sexy beauty.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: I was I was, as I often say, taken aback.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Blown away by what I'm seeing.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: So good for you, Iman.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: So the part of Labyrinth that the people who most people who've watched it, which I think is most of the population.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's the part where these memory, these mangy orange creatures are singing a song.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: They're removing limbs and throwing them into a fire.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: They're they're rolling their eyes as dice and they're eating them.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Wait, so I actually tried to watch Labyrinth around Halloween, but I fell asleep when it was free.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: It was on somewhere.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: And I Jennifer Conley, this was not her Her best work.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Her best work.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: She just kind of seems like she's just wandering around.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: I don't know, because I haven't seen the whole movie, but like she's just kind of wandering around aimlessly, like, not sure what to do with her.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: She's lost in a maze in a labyrinth.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, she she Oh, so it's an actual That makes sense.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: It does make sense, doesn't it?
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Like she doesn't it's like she doesn't it's like she's lost.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she doesn't know where she goes.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: But I'll tell you what, this part there and then to get away from them, she has to rip off their heads and throw them.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, I saw her rip off the head and throw it.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: This is the creepiest part in a movie that's basically that has in the first like 10 minutes there's an infant abduction.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: So that says something.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: I think that's what I saw, and I was like, I don't know about this, because it's hard when you're a parent to watch.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: The song's actually pretty good though.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it wasn't bad.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: I liked it.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: I was into it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: I think the song's pretty good.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: And I think we're moving along pretty good here.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: So let's let's move on to the next one.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: You had to have seen Roger Rabbit.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: I have seen Roger Rabbit many, many times.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: I knew I actually didn't even rewatch the scene because I had it all up.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: It's like 30 seconds.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Just the shoe going into the shoe.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Well, there's a couple things I took away from this.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Well, also, like, when he becomes a tune, that's pretty scary.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: That is very scary.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: So the the you're bringing up a good point.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Like, the tunes are they have a whole different social contract.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: They'll drop an anvil on your head and laugh at you, and it doesn't translate well to the humans.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: No.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: So this guy had no problem holding a little shoe and murdering it, and you're not supposed to be able to murder shoes.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, not shoes.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: You can murder shoes.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're not supposed to be able to kill like tunes are supposed they're used to being able to live however and not die, and then you're killing this thing, and it's got a little sad face, and it's boiling.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I remember that as a kid.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: And his brother's shoe, is he already dead?
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: Or is he gonna be wandering around without him?
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Because that's sad too.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: No, he's gonna go to Punky Brewster, so he'll have our one shoe.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you know how Punky Brewster keeps the other set.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right, that's right, that's right.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: It's still gonna be a lonely situation.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: It's not great.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: No, Roger Abbott has we could actually do home.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: That's one of the few.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: I guess because it's got real people too, that I actually enjoyed it.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: It is good.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: But one of the scenes, and this has nothing to do with anything, but that always stuck out for me was when he asked for the drink on the rocks and they brought him the drink with rocks in it.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: That will forever be burned in my head.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: It's a great movie.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I remember it being awesome because it's like cartoons and live action intermingled.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's the like cool world, I don't think it was the first time.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was gonna say wasn't Dick Tracy right like that, but I was I think it might have been cool.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: It's cool world, but Brad Pitt, right?
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there was like a hotel.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: There was a hot yeah, Jessica Rabbit.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's hype, you know, but she was blonde.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: They were really pushing that.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: They were good for each other.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Brad Pitt was hot too.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Was he still good looking?
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're right, I'll give you that.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: No, that definitely was pretty traumatizing.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the next one.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: Rugrats.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Rugrats.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Did you watch this episode?
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: I did watch this episode.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: This was the only one I felt comfortable watching with my children.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: There did you?
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Because it's wild.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: I watched it with Grosby.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: He was playing Fortnite, so he didn't really care.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: But you know what I loved that I didn't realize that it was like a play on Grey Gardens.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, so there's a whole do give us a whole synopsis of it, because it is a play on Great Gardens.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Also something else.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Tommy goes to the grocery store with his grandfather, and grandfather sees a car that he used to have, and he's like, Hey, can I try this out?
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: And they were like, sure.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: And so he gets in and like pretends to drive like he's a five-year-old boy.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: And then he gets out, and somebody like gets in and takes off with the car, and it turns out that the baby was in the backseat, which is I that right there, I thought that was the I thought that was the scary part.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: I and then he goes and they're like, Oh, look who it is, and it's like these two creepy old women.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: And it turns out that it they literally say it's Grey Gardens.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, they live at Grey Gardens, and it was like And they're they're like they're chasing him around the house, they're calling him Boswick, and they're and they're and they're gonna like keep him in the house forever.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: I was I remember being a kid, these were 10 minutes long.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: I remember being a kid and thinking, I wasn't even that young.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I was probably like 12 or something, right?
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: But like it felt like a really long time.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: And it's also a play on it's a play on Grey Gardens, but it's also a play on whatever happened to Baby Jane.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, I've never seen that?
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: No.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: It's like this this child star gets old and she hasn't done anything since she was a child star, and like this really creepy but Great Gardens.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Like, do you have an explanation for that?
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: It's like they're like Kennedy and James.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: So yeah, they're like Jackie's socialites.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Jackie O's family?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: No, no, because they're actually Kennedy's.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Rose Kennedy, maybe?
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Whoever it is, it's somehow an extension of the Kennedy family, and it's this mother mother and daughter.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: And they basically were just like hoarders that like lived in this house and were like the whole time.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: That was like at one time was so beautiful, but now it's like all in shambles.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: They actually had a Grey Gardens.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: Drew Barrymore was in it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I should watch that.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I should we should do an episode on that.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: I think that's a good idea.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: The documentary.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's and there's a documentary now that did like a little play on it, too.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Like a little bit.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: But it's actually that is so scary to me, like being stuck with these two women who are completely disconnected from reality.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: Well, it was funny because in the initially they were like, What are you gonna do with him?
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: And the guy's like, I'm gonna call the authorities, and they're like, Oh, good.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: And then they like saw he was cute, which Tommy is he's cute, very cute.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: He's got a weird head.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you what.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: His head looked like Crosby's head when it was.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Three months down the road, he thinks he is Boss Wake.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: And he just is.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, he's a big thing.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And Tommy Pickles is gone.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so his memory of his old life.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: It happens all the time.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: He's a little leader of all these babies, he's got all these great things going on, gone.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And now he's in this horror story.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: My grandfather is like, oh, the parents are gonna be really mad if they find out that I lost him in it.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: I don't know, maybe that's not the most important thing.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Maybe you should actually go and I don't know, go tell like someone.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: Maybe you shouldn't take this on yourself.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: And he was like, he was that was a play on Columbo, the gr the grandfather trying to be like a detective.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: I thought that.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: But that's a great episode of Rock Rass.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: That was a great episode.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: All right, let's get into something here that I thought was creepier than it really was, and that's McDonald's commercials.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: What?
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: You thought that was creepy?
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: You didn't think McDonald's commercials were creepy?
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: So listen, I'll say this.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: When the clown is the least creepy character of all the characters in your little cartoon world, the hamburger is super creepy.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: The mayor McCheese, super creepy.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: They would have like actual.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: What was Grimace?
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: What is he?
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: What is he gonna do?
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Like what is that?
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: What?
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: It's just the purple blob.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: That's creepy.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: And the Well, I mean, what's the hamburger?
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Like a man who steals hamburgers that has isn't his head a hamburger?
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: A man, but he's got like the head, the sort of the sh- No, no, that's the mayor.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: The hamburger is like a redhead.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: I still want to do I still want to do an episode about McDonald's.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: I really think I think it would be great.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Chicken nuggets are very cute though.
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the chicken nuggets, I love the chicken nuggets.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: I actually remember, as we know, I was very claustrophobic when I was young.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: And I got locked in the bathroom at Uncle Tony's and I screamed my heart out.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: And when I came out, they gave me the cowboy chicken nugget as like a the chicken nuggets.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: You remember that?
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, like the happy meal guy.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: The happy meals was, and they gave that to me, and I cherished that.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: That made me feel so much better.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: That was like my like my dad with the cowboy hat on.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: From previous episode.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Wait, so there were some other commercials that I added in here.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: Quiznos.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like one of those guys are.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Who miss Quiznos?
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: I wish they said they were great.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: You're running through the toaster.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: That Italian vinaigrette that they used to put on the sandwiches.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: That was delicious.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: How did I how did that go around?
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: How did that slip through the cracks?
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Gushers with the fruit heads.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: Do you remember this?
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: And they would like almost be like steaming.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: They were people, but they had a watermelon head and they would like talk to each other like it was a family.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: That was a really creepy one.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: And Mr.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Six, the Six Flags guy.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: He was the old guy that used to do the dance.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: It wasn't creeped out by him.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: No.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: No?
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Wait, so I have some other ones that I wanted to talk about on here.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: My question is though, some of these I was kind of like You have to be careful because they have to be unintentional.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Unintentional.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: That's why I was like, for me it was the creepiest thing that were.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: Like little monsters.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: That creeped me out.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: But that was kind of supposed to be.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: Like Little Monsters with Fred Savage.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Yes, that was supposed to be creepy.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Howie Mandel.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: They were monsters.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Howie Mandel, man.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: To go from that to interviewing Tom Sandoval.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Because the thing is, it's like I thought, you know, the Twilight Zone movie.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: And the kid made all those wishes.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Did you ever see that?
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: And he would get whatever he wants.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: That was the most creepy thing for me.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: But go ahead.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: Cats, the musical thing.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, there you go.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: Um, I will never forget.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: I went to go see cats with my mom.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Like the commercials that used to come out.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: And all of a sudden, I had no idea.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Now I'm like 30 at this point.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: This was not like I was not young.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: And all of a sudden they shut down the lights.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: And the way that cats start, I'm assuming you haven't seen it.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: You're assuming right.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: The way cats start is they come from the back and they like creep down the aisles and their eyes are lit up, are glowing cat eyes.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: And so you just see like all these glowing cat eyes just crawling down the aisles.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: And it was one of the fucking terrifying.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: And I mean, given that I was a full grown adult.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: They're like licking their hands and like rubbing their eyes.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: And like I still, to be honest, I still don't even know what the whole play was about.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: The whole time I was so weirded out by it.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Like memory is there is a spaceship at some point.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Like it's very, very weird.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: The baby Grinch.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: That really fucking freaked me out.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: But that's just a I mean, he was cute, kind of.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: But like he was also really creepy.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: So the clam scene in Alice in Wonderland, did you watch it?
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: That always like that haunts me to this day.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: See, cartoons are have I have a hard time being creeped out by cartoons.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: He had like four cartoons on here.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: That's a great point.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: That's a great point.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: The the little clams, they were so excited.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: This is the scene when the the walrus and the clam, I think it's called.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: And like he like convinces them all to go down, and then he's like, oh, look, you're gonna like whatever, and then he eats them all.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: Well, so that's like Alice in Wonderland.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: That's from the 60s, right?
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: Alice in Wonderland had a lot of unintentional.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: The 1985 made-for-tv show, Alice in Wonderland.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, that stuff had some wild things in it.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: But it starts off with like someone stuck in the mirror.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: That always gets me.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: And you're stuck in the mirror or in a picture, you know?
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Like in that Olson Twins movie, Double Double Toil in Trouble.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: What a great movie.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: What a great we'll do that, we'll do that during Halloween.
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, this one was a big one for me.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: The Miss Nelson books.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: Do you remember this?
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: No.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: So in the Miss Nelson books, Miss Nelson is this like wonderful, we'll say she, I'm not sure of the grade, we'll say she's a third grade teacher.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: She's this wonderful teacher.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: And at some point the kids just aren't behaving correctly.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: So she says, I have to be out tomorrow.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: You're gonna have a sub.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: And she dresses up as Miss Viola Swamp in this like black wig.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: She's supposed to be, she's really, really mean.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: And like the whole point of it is that the kids eventually are like, oh, we love you, Miss Nelson.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Like come back, whatever.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: But like I really internalize that.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: And Viola Swamp sounds familiar.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: When I was in first grade, okay, one of the first grade teachers looked exactly like Viola Swamp.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: And I was like getting ready to go in.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: You're sure you're showing me a picture of Viola Swamp, and now I completely remember that just rushed right back into my consciousness.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: So one of the You know what that is?
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: That's like the thing that's behind the kid in the movie Insidious.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: I'm just Oh man, that's that's an entity following you.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: That's what it is.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: So I remember though, one of these teachers looked exactly like Miss Viola Swamp, and I was like, absolutely not.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: I'm not going with that lady.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: I start hysterically crying.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: I have a full-blown meltdown, but somebody was from the Warwick Beacon there reporting on the first day of school, and they take a picture of me, and I ended up on the front page of the Warwick Beacon, hysterically crying, and they were like, she's sad about school starting.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: And it's like, no, I was sad that I was gonna have a horrible first grade teacher.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: And I actually looked up on the Warwick Beacon site to see if I could find the thing, but I might have to hit up with a microfiche.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you might have to get in it.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Get it so I can post it.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what's I I'm just gonna say this.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: I was on the front page of the Warwick Beacon on my first day of first grade.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: I swear to God.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: And I have and I have the picture.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: I have the yellow newspaper.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: I swear.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: But I'm not crying.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Like I'm looking up at the teacher like this.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh wow.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: Like I'm being very cute.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: You're so popular.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: So let me let me give you a couple honorable mentions here while you're looking through that.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Do you have you ever seen the show Banana Splits?
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: No.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: That's all I could say.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Was it like bananas and pajamas doing gymnastics?
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: They no, it was it was it was it was live action.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: So it was people in c weird costumes.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: No.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: California Raisins.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: California raisins I had on my list.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: My brother actually and his friends dressed up as the California Raisins.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: They were pretty cool.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: I showed the I showed a video of it to Crasby and Dylan last summer.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: And they were like, what the fuck is this?
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Not they didn't say that because they're six and eight, but they were like, I don't know, mom.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: I was on the at the tail end of kids being around clowns.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think you might have missed that.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: I think that would have might have been just the last year of that.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: What?
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: Like clowns being a part of things.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: Like I remember my parents took me to a circus and there was like clowns.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: You think clowns ended?
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think they ended, but I think like people r everyone kind of just goes, clowns are creepy.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: No one no one's like, oh, kids will have fun with clowns.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: So what do you think it is about a clown that's scary?
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: I think it's got the whole deception.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: Well, I think it's a little bit more than a little bit.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: They're wearing a smile.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: But is that how they really feel?
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: You don't know.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: And like it's so easy for that to go from like good to bad.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: But also it So something killing you when when it's smiling?
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: No one wants that.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: No, nobody wants that.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: I have one last one.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Actually, I have two.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: Sideways stories from Wayside School.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Do you remember that?
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: It was a book, and it was all about like these horrible teachers that were on the different levels, and each one was a different level.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: There was no floor 13.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: No, that's that's scary.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: So my sister and I had we had a book about teenagers, and there was like this one picture that I would always skip over, and it was like this guy with a really angry face, just it was just drawn.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: And it was like pulling this kid into the back of a car, and it used to freak me out.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Kidnapping was a huge fear.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: We are gonna do an episode on kidnapping.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: That was a big fear.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: My last one was powder, the movie about the albino boy who But that's what I look like now.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, but what's what are you talking about?
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: That's what that's what I looked like in January.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: He was like pale, oh god, yeah, he's pale and he's both.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: First of all, powder was ripped.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: He was Sean Patrick Flannery.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a good looking guy.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: He's a real actor.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: He was in that movie with Sarah Michelle Geller, where she was a witch who made food.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: That does not ring any bells at all.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: You know, whatever.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: No big deal.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: No big deal.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think that's it for me.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: I think, you know, you got your Pinocchio, you got your Pinocchio.
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but Pinocchio regular Pinocchio is nowhere near as creepy as fairy tale theater Pinocchio.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, you just can't hold the candle.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: There's a scene with the donkey though.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: Doesn't he turn into a donkey?
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: They do that in fairytale theater too, so you can imagine how jumbled that is.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: It's like Pee-wee turning into as Pee-wee playing a wooden boy turning into a donkey is just nightmares.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, but well, all right, let me just ask you this.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: We're at the end here, and we hope everyone likes and subscribes and does all those things and leaves your ears.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: Yada yada yada.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: But but what I really want to know is what's the creepiest one on here that you that you watched?

- 47:28SPEAKER_01: And it there was no reason why she brought it back to her house and was like eating all our food, and she ends up driving it somewhere to the junkyard and being like, go away, go away.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: But it just did something to me when I was kidding.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: And I'm just I'm just curious.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: I I didn't want to run through it because I don't think anybody else saw it, but I'm just please let me know if if I have someone that I can kind of trauma bond with.
