- 0:00Speaker 0: The best way to understand and appreciate music, of course is to hear it.
- 0:05Speaker 0: Now listen to three terrific pieces imagined composed and played by Yixin Mi with some help from her friends.
- 0:13Speaker 0: enjoy one Of your pieces that I really enjoyed has To be unique in the canon of modern music vinyl road for bassoon strings And plastic bags.
- 0:33Speaker 0: How do you write music for
- 0:44Speaker 1: plastic bags?
- 0:58Speaker 1: So yeah, I decided to include that in my music.
- 1:07Speaker 1: And I was just rubbing on the plastic bags looking for many different ways to create sound.
- 1:14Speaker 1: basically and it's quite loud!
- 2:48Speaker 0: I think people will enjoy listening.
- 2:50Speaker 0: Give me a few words of honey.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That is my debut single as pop singer
- 2:59Speaker 2: Um...and
- 3:00Speaker 1: i wanted to integrate some classical element, which is my root.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So there is a repeated riff.
- 3:08Speaker 1: so when people talk about riffs it's usually of very simple pattern that is repeating over and over again.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And since honey is about butterflies looking for honey in different flowers basically I wanted to be a little more elongated like flying around...so i had a cellist friend of mine recording it for me and I added filing on it, minimal percussion.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And yeah there goes honey!
- 3:52Speaker 2: Then you flew
- 4:42Speaker 1: away for more honey,
- 4:44Speaker 2: honey.
- 5:10Speaker 0: Last one to ask about is Four Moons with Coriobots.
- 5:16Speaker 1: This was when I was at the New York Symphony just starting this interdisciplinary... Just exploring this inter-disciplinary world and One of the staff came up to me asked do want to play for a robot?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Can you write something for a robot?
- 5:33Speaker 1: And I was first thinking of this like humanoid kind of robot where it's just dancing.
- 5:39Speaker 1: because he said, Dancing Robot and i couldn't really find.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But then when saw the robot actually four round discs hanging on transparent lines so that looks floating.
- 5:56Speaker 1: and yeah when I saw this robot, i was instantly inspired to write something about moons because they looked like moons.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And as I said narrative is very important for me.
- 6:07Speaker 1: so I came up with the narrative where there's a girl who just found these four moons... ...and starting to play around.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So what I did was having some some parts that can be repeated until the robot is ready.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And yeah, that's how I came up with this piece for solo violin and some singing from my side.
- 6:38Speaker 1: so Singing Is Girl!
- 6:39Speaker 1: and then Violin is Robot's Movement of The Moons.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah it was a really fun experience.
