- 0:56is I your hosts Tatiana King along with this is Dol. I am the
- 1:00For All Nerds intern aka Jubilation lead and the X Men's only manager. Excellent
- 1:11and you will see here my Russian sister down there. We're actually like the
- 1:17Glasses siblings today. I don't know what's going on. This was not planned,
- 1:19but it's very cute. I love the vibe. Uh Anastasia. Yeah,
- 1:23please introduce yourself. Hi. I am, I like to say,
- 1:29formerly known formally known as you know looks it, used to be a concert
- 1:34creator in these streets. But I'm just here. I'm just here to talk
- 1:37shit and have a good time. And I go where the fun is.
- 1:41So the fun is here, and I'm here. Excellent, excellent, And
- 1:45we are here today too. We are gathered here today, tell me very
- 1:49much, but we are gathered here today to talk X Men ninety seven episode
- 1:56four titled Moltendo Slash Life Death one. Before we get into like running down
- 2:04the entire episode and the recap it and all that other stuff, I just
- 2:07want you guys opinion, just how have you been feeling about X Men ninety
- 2:09seven thus far, especially if you've watched the original X Men series back in
- 2:15like Fox Kids' days, and like, how do you what do you see?
- 2:20And how you feeling about the new presentation? Anyone go first? Yeah,
- 2:27you go ahead, Joe, Okay, Yeah, I used to watch
- 2:30the old one. I had to like start rewatching it when I found the
- 2:34X Men ninety seven was coming because I was like, oh I don't remember
- 2:36this shit. I didn't even try to go back, I was just like,
- 2:40get it. I was like, okay, let me watch a few
- 2:43episodes. I mean, it definitely is very similar to what I remember it
- 2:46like, very overdramatic, trying to pack a lot of story into like these
- 2:51tiny episodes. But I'm really enjoying it so far. I love all the
- 2:53Easter eggs and cameos, like I'm actually X Men and Pants are like,
- 2:58oh did you see that? Like oh did you did? You? Like?
- 3:00Oh that was cool? So I love that so far? Amazing.
- 3:04What about you? The same for me? I never watched it consistently when
- 3:08the old show was on, but I always caught episodes and I was hoping
- 3:15that they were going to be able to capture the nostalgia. And I feel
- 3:17like they did so perfectly. It made me want to go back and rewatch
- 3:23everything. It makes me want to read X Men, And that's why I'm
- 3:27so excited about it. I feel like they're showing off. I really do.
- 3:30Absolutely With every episode, I'm like, oh, okay, because you
- 3:35guys did not have to do that, but you did, and I thank
- 3:37you. Yeah. I mean, I think it's fun, and I will
- 3:40say that I have been thoroughly enjoying the first three episodes, I mean the
- 3:46jokes, the jokes were flying everywhere. I mean, it was perfect.
- 3:50Like I had initial misconception of what this would be when I first started,
- 3:54so I was taken aback at first, but then I fell into the groove,
- 3:59like, Okay, and I know where you guys are going with this,
- 4:01and it's giving camp. I love it, and it's it's giving camps,
- 4:05giving nostalgia and it's just and it's just also giving like creativity because I
- 4:12do like that, even though they're also going deeper into other stories that we
- 4:15didn't get to see before, like they're doing it in a little bit different
- 4:18way than we expected. So, like I said, I've been enjoying it.
- 4:23Did y'all like episodes one through three, NY, was it anything in
- 4:28particular where you were like that's horrible or did you think, oh no,
- 4:30this is perfect, even characters or even storyline. How they did it,
- 4:38I think they've nailed so much m hm. Even though I wasn't sure because
- 4:45Magneto the character designed for Magneto, I was like, Okay, it's giving
- 4:49disco poppy. I'm not sure where we're going with it. I love,
- 4:55but I really grew on me, but I'm also a Magneto. Sam Magneto
- 4:59Cander wrong and I will argue. I will argue the crowd. So for
- 5:04me, kind of seeing the character are comfortable in the Okay, I guess
- 5:10I'll be good because I'm here to fulfill the wishes. It was kind of
- 5:15nice to see that transition from the end of you know, the first episode
- 5:19into the second and the third. We did get a break from him this
- 5:26episode. But I think the writing has been phenomenal, the art has been
- 5:30great. I've just been gushing, like all I've been doing is talking about
- 5:32it because it really does. I don't know, it feels like we might
- 5:39get that old thing back, and I hate to be hopeful, but it
- 5:42just feels really good right now. Four episodes in, I think we're there.
- 5:46What about you, Jill? Yeah, I think something I really love
- 5:49about it is all the characters like feel really true to like the essence of
- 5:54who they are, Like when we finally got to see storms Striten her Omega
- 5:59level shit and oh when let me like a glass tornado because I'm a stunt
- 6:01ye. Yeah, I loved it, And like Magneto being all with his
- 6:06long monologues and being overly dramatic with his long hair. I'm like, this
- 6:11is this is Magneto, Like all he does is talk his shit and like
- 6:14feel very like preachy. But yeah, I just love that, like we
- 6:17get to see them and like a new adaptation, but like they're all feel
- 6:21very much their essence of like who they are. Absolutely absolutely I feel you.
- 6:27Okay, So let's get into episode four, the first part of it,
- 6:30and that was interesting. I don't maybe I wasn't paying attention. I
- 6:32didn't realize they were gonna put like basically two episodes this it's really one episode
- 6:36with the first seventy five percent is all about Jubilee and Roberto and then the
- 6:42last part is about Storm. But the Motendo side is where we get a
- 6:46lot of Jubilee. And I will say, in previous episodes that we covered,
- 6:51I had said, well, you know, I wonder if you're even
- 6:55gonna see Jubilee like that or they're gonna kind of pay her dust. Like
- 6:58I feel like my memories and I'm sure that they're biased, but I feel
- 7:00like in my memories, they didn't do There was maybe one or two episodes,
- 7:03but I feel like they didn't do a lot on the animation side anyway.
- 7:08So I was just like, Oh, they're gonna pay her dust again
- 7:10or we gonna get her and then literally this episode came out, so I
- 7:14was like, all right, that's cute. I like that y'all doing this
- 7:17at the same time. And I'm sure people will disagree with me this This
- 7:21may felt kind of filler to me, Like this part of it was.
- 7:26It was a Jubilee commercial, which was nice, but it's also just like
- 7:30it felt very sidequesty to me. Mm hmm. Yeah. I feel like
- 7:33in the old one, Jubilee is just like the whiny child that like they
- 7:39have and that's along everywhere, and I think like they tried to like do
- 7:44a spin on that. It's like, oh, like will she forever be
- 7:46the whiny child? No, she gotta grow. She has to like realize
- 7:49that she can't be a kid forever. It was like very peter Pan syndrome,
- 7:54like, oh, older Jubilee had to be like get it together,
- 7:57like you're grown up now, you're eighteen, Like you're a you gotta know
- 8:00what that means in the world. By now, that's all the stuff that
- 8:03you've been through, Like time to grow friends. I have to say I
- 8:07didn't really remember her much from the first go round either, She's not really
- 8:13a character I paid attention to a lot, So it was really cool to
- 8:16see that, Like, okay, so we might you know, we glimpses
- 8:22in the future of what we're seeing and yeah, showing that kind of coming
- 8:26of age where it's like, yeah, it's gave me. It's nerdy,
- 8:31but you're gonna eventually you're gonna have to make this choice between you know,
- 8:35being a kid. Which can we talk about how it was even possible that
- 8:39they got tricked by that video game that was very obviously evil and very obviously
- 8:46a trap. Did we miss the episode with the Clone baby Shenanigans? Like
- 8:50were we not at were we not paid attention? No, okay, it
- 8:52wouldn't be it wouldn't be camp and it wouldn't be X Men ninety seven.
- 8:56That didn't happen if you weren't this easily fooled by anything. I mean,
- 9:01I hadn't made the argument like in what episode one or two? I'm like,
- 9:03how did both Bishop and Storm get taken out by a little exploding generator
- 9:09or whatever it is and they and you're talking about the Mega level Mune it
- 9:11was like the hell idea of just picking and choosing when things actually matter,
- 9:15and it's just like, oh, she was excited to see a Nintendo sixty
- 9:20four in her room. She said, oh, snap, we got a
- 9:22game that was that, like a Floor sixty four Slash Genesis. Like I
- 9:26was just trying to figure out what that was. This whole approach was,
- 9:31I would say, because it was a cartridge, right, yeah, okay,
- 9:35I think there were probably nods to the game. But I never played
- 9:39the X Men game. No, no, no, uh wait a minute,
- 9:43like, no cap Converces x Men either, Yeah, PlayStation No,
- 9:48I was I was old. I was. I say, I was a
- 9:50late in life gamer. I didn't started living until I was like eighteen,
- 9:54so I missed the you know, I missed a really good old formative stuff.
- 10:00Oh no, you gotta go back and play or ever been like to
- 10:03Arcade in the movie theater where like they would have it or that's where it
- 10:07is. Okay. I remember playing the Little X Men game that looked just
- 10:11like it did on the show, where you're like scrolling around fighting the people
- 10:15on the street. And that's what I loved about just the motif of this
- 10:18episode, like from an art direction standpoint, it was it was gorgeous and
- 10:22it was amazing, and I liked how they jumped between a lot of different
- 10:26art styles, like obviously she got to your point and a stage. I
- 10:30don't understand how they got tricked like that, but they had. Regretto got
- 10:35sucked into a sixteen bit video game. So then you saw the sixteen bit
- 10:39style graphics right, and the typical gaming tropes like she even called them out,
- 10:43which is very you know, again, very funny, very great in
- 10:46terms of writing, and very good in terms of just having that humor to
- 10:52touch upon and and and share with the audience. But before we get into
- 10:56the game part, I didn't want to just mention and that we again we
- 11:01love Magneto. He is such a messy slut. That means, first of
- 11:07all, he's dressing and this is not sluss shame, and he is dressed
- 11:11like a slut. Let's be ca and I'm here for and he looks good,
- 11:18and that's the thing. He looks good doing it. But I also
- 11:22can't take him seriously when he's sitting there with like lace gloves and he's talking
- 11:26about that is not in my stature, and I don't do these things.
- 11:30I'm like, okay, house Mother, calm down, like I just he's
- 11:35a lot, and then with his monologues, but but I love him,
- 11:37so I just let him get away with murder. But that whole exchange between
- 11:41him, Rogue and Gambit where it was just more the continuation of all that
- 11:48messy the love. Now it will be a low triangle, the messy stuff
- 11:52that's been going on, and I I want to see more. I will
- 11:58say that I do agree, I want to see more, but it's also
- 12:00again it's just messy, and it's just like you don't need to do this,
- 12:03so I don't know it. It's an x Men if there isn't a
- 12:05messy love triangle, right, Like the X Men suck everybody. It's so
- 12:09incestuous in that group. They always groping, touched in love triangles, love
- 12:15quadrangles like everything. Yeah, yeah been. I mean on the last episodes
- 12:20he was and I agreed with him where we were just like, there's something
- 12:24more going on with what's the change the changeling. I can call him a
- 12:28changelinge guy more. If there's something going on with morph and Logan, there's
- 12:37some undertones there, there's some undertones, But is it I don't know,
- 12:43but I don't know if it's yearning or I don't know if it's like I
- 12:48need a father figure I don't know, or a daddy. Yeah, Like
- 12:54I don't know if it's I need a daddy or I need a daddy,
- 12:56you know, like I'm not not quite true sure the intonation your voice and
- 13:01the second daddy that that might be it. He turned into freaking Sabertooth,
- 13:09Like that is insane, Like if you listen to what have been had mentioned
- 13:13saber Tooth and then the stories is known for killing all of Logan's lovers,
- 13:16then you turn into him for for for ships and giggles and then y'all ropping
- 13:22in the grass together like there's that's all sex. I don't care what anybody
- 13:26says. That is his best see though, like I remember in the original
- 13:30season, like original series, when Morph died, like Logan was the one
- 13:33that took it the hardest. He was like you let Morph die? Like
- 13:37how did you let that happen? Sidebop so like they definitely have had like
- 13:39a history of like that's the homie. Okay, okay, well they turned
- 13:45up the other part of all that's a little more more. It'll be interesting
- 13:50to see where they where they take it. Mm hmmm. I like that
- 13:54they're overt about queer code things. It's not yes, it's not like hey
- 14:03maybe it's like no, this this is probably It's like yeah, probably,
- 14:07yeah, more than likely. And then this whole thing with Magneto, and
- 14:11he's going to be very caddy with Gambit, Poor Gambit. He doesn't deserve
- 14:16that. Man, it's is it? Is it? Poor Gambit. I
- 14:22mean right now they're kind of playing him to be the yeah just joined the
- 14:28threattle Gambit, like he can be three. I guess, I guess I
- 14:35just wanted to mention that because again, and we only but even though we
- 14:37only see these people very very briefly in the beginning Logan with his keiking over
- 14:43there, and then we get as mentioned, Jubilee thrown and in Roberto randomly
- 14:48thrown into this game. You said you didn't play, but I remember this
- 14:54like Mojo from Marvel versus Capcom and all those types of games, that was
- 14:56actually a playable character and also an enemy. It's I did like how they
- 15:05it was like, as you said, it was a I like how you
- 15:07explain it kind of Statia that it was a learning process for her, right,
- 15:09Like it was about, oh, you can't you know want even though
- 15:13it's very easy for things to say the same, you really want to grow
- 15:16and that's not life when you are stuck in one place. And I hope
- 15:22they continue that trend. I think it would be very easy to kind of
- 15:28fall into mirroring the old show in every single way, but there's so much
- 15:31opportunity to explore these characters in new ways and kind of actually take it forward
- 15:39because we have been kind of stuck in the cycles with the stories that we
- 15:41have seen from these franchises. But are we seeing growth and are we seeing
- 15:48art that's really holding up to the time. And I think that's what I've
- 15:52been enjoying so far about X Men, Like X Men has always been about
- 15:56that social commentary and what better time for a show like X Men to be
- 16:02on. So I'm also kind of looking to them to see like, hey,
- 16:06are you going to push the envelope? Are you going to kind of
- 16:08fall into comfort making sure that nobody is offended and everybody is you know,
- 16:17because it's already battling the the woke charges from the fanboys. It's already like,
- 16:22oh, X Men is so woke. I'm like, have you ever
- 16:26engaged with you know, whatever in your life? What the hell have you
- 16:29been all this time? Like have you been alive for X Men? Because
- 16:33it's kind of always business, but it's really nice to see I'm looking forward
- 16:41to that. Yeah. Yeah, speaking of Roberto, that is actually one
- 16:45of my qualms about X Men ninety seven. Oh so I just feel like,
- 16:52so I think like knowing the history of Roberto, especially as like an
- 16:55Afro Brazilian person, it's just it's just a little little whitewashed like he's he's
- 17:03real light. I looked at his voice actor. I was like, oh,
- 17:07he's a little paper baggy. Yeah. And it's like the history of
- 17:11Roberto actually is like his powers are activated because he's half black and half like
- 17:18whatever Latin Brazilian he is, and he's in a soccer game and like the
- 17:22other team is like like harassing him because he's black, and like as they
- 17:27like jump him, basically like his powers are activated, and so like that's
- 17:30a big part of who Roberto is and the way that like it's not even
- 17:36just X Men ninety seven, but like in so many of the X men
- 17:37adaptations like Roberto was always made this be made to be this like lighter,
- 17:42almost white Brazilian and that's not who he is and like that's also a big
- 17:47part of who he is and like how he embraces his like muteness, right,
- 17:52So, and I remember reading up about that, and because I didn't
- 17:56know much about his character, but I remember reading up about them. People
- 17:57were saying it like like he's not beating the whitewashing allegations, like this is
- 18:03a thing. But then now you're giving this backstory like oh and also just
- 18:07even thinking about his powers as sunspot right, like is that that's like a
- 18:12solar type? Is that like an energy and stuff like that, And it
- 18:15just seems like that would be very well suited for a more melanated individual.
- 18:21It's like why is Superman by when he's getting his powers from the sun,
- 18:23So he's a Kryptonian that's all. Yeah, yeah, but but but but
- 18:36but is here on Earth. Maybe I don't even know if this is Earth
- 18:40six one six, but he's here on Earth, so I don't know,
- 18:44But good point, Joel. And also I wanted to actually tap on you
- 18:48because you made a note about how so much there's so much nineties nostalgia in
- 18:52this episode. I mean, obviously the whole nineties ninety seven, but this
- 18:56particularly, Can you talk about that a little bit? Yeah, I just
- 18:57felt like there were so many little nods to like the nineties, Like when
- 19:02Older Jubilee first appeared and they're like, who is this like hot topic?
- 19:04And I had to look it up. I was like, what's hot topic
- 19:07around back then? And then nine dang it was very personally attacked. How
- 19:15topping is still there? First of all, how topic was the little spot
- 19:18and it's and like if you bored and you happen to be animalal and is
- 19:22there shirts yeah, if you were allowed in. You know, my my
- 19:26Christian parents did not let me go into that. That was the devil.
- 19:30When I was a kidding all suffered pain, pain, We just have compensation.
- 19:36My mom didn't let me either. She was like that it's kind of
- 19:37demonized in there. And then come to find out it's just a bunch of
- 19:41like sixteen year olds that are bored. But okay, so yes, the
- 19:45hot topic stuff. And then there was the like little flashes of like a
- 19:48different world. Yeah, yeah, I forgot what the other one was like.
- 19:52But I was like, oh, look at these little nineties callbacks.
- 19:56They did a different world and they did another one not living single shouts out
- 20:00to Stephi will Stephanie Williams, the comic book writer, but they did another
- 20:06one another, Like I thought it was like another black sitcom they did.
- 20:10I don't remember. I'm sure it'll pop up again, but no, I
- 20:12do love the callbacks and like, even there was something I mentioned like in
- 20:17another it might have been rebirth though, like he was like, like the
- 20:21last episode, he was leaving or he was going on someplace and Julie was
- 20:26like, well, how can I find you? He was like just page
- 20:26me, and I was like page. I was just like, wait a
- 20:30minute, I forgot what year this is? Like what are y'all talking about?
- 20:33But I do like that there's true to it. Obviously, they're true
- 20:37to the design, They're true to the nineties in terms of the fashions and
- 20:41the hair and all that other stuff. And then it just fits in so
- 20:45well, especially with this episode that's very again Sega Genesis NCC four coded love
- 20:49it. We do get like again, I did feel like, even though
- 20:56it was nice to see her, I did feel this a little bit filler,
- 20:59so I was just likekind of like, let's get through this. Like
- 21:03I don't know, was that the only one who felt that way or did
- 21:04you like, was like really into this? I like it, but it
- 21:08was definitely I feel like something to change the pace. It started off very
- 21:14heavy, things got really rough. Okay, they don't shot up Storm Magneto
- 21:21then took the un to outer space in the middle of it was a lot,
- 21:26so it was I think it was a cute reset to change the pace
- 21:32and to give everybody some time to cool off. And also I feel like
- 21:36a lot happened, but it didn't feel as heavy even though a lot still
- 21:42happened, because you did get you know, some development. The kiddos got
- 21:47their kiss off. I don't know why that man told Storm he loved them,
- 21:55and can we can I say, like, we need to bring back
- 21:57Real Yearners episode three and four. You kissing and you in love? You
- 22:03just met her episode ago, you don't know her, and we're gonna get
- 22:06there. I thought that was quite a jump. It felt it felt stalker,
- 22:11but I was just like, okay, like it was cute and was
- 22:14like, wait a minute, how did we get from point eighty point b
- 22:17and then again we don't also don't know how long Storm has been with him,
- 22:19right, because where do you say he found her in Texas or whatever?
- 22:23And now you know they've been chilling. I don't. We don't know
- 22:26how long they've been. But but but you know, we'll we'll get to
- 22:30that. Anything else, just typically to mention about Jubilee's side of this album,
- 22:37this record, the Motendo side of the record, saday Oh, I
- 22:41thought that was interesting, Mojo, like, yes, I love the voice
- 22:48actor for him. It was great. Yeah, it was very It was
- 22:52very fun. It was like that gleeful kind of evil, and I really
- 22:56think it suited the character design. Really. I really enjoyed it. Yes,
- 23:02and the whole thing about being so focused on ratings and got to make
- 23:06shows and something that I was just like, I felt like I've seen this
- 23:08character before in other shows. But to your point, it was illustrated very
- 23:12well. We did get another East Egg Spiral appeared again. We did see
- 23:18morph turnings of Spiral like as a gag like an episode or two back.
- 23:23And then I just wanted to say the character design for future do Belee beautiful
- 23:30love love love that as they call it. She called her hot topics talker
- 23:32but but no, but like she she looks so good, and I you
- 23:37know, I liked that she was there, Like you never know when they
- 23:41when they say, you know, what, would you tell your future self
- 23:42or your future self could tell your young self something to help them get through
- 23:48their life, or would you tell them I felt it was very much that.
- 23:52And then also getting to see you believe like powers explore more. Oh,
- 23:56let me just show you a little light show like you actually shows that
- 24:00she can do some damage when she like puts her mind to it, and
- 24:03I think that was really cool to see. Yeah, definitely love the creative
- 24:07problem solving. I like that so far you're not bored by anyone's powers,
- 24:14even though you've seen them use them. Of team times, Scott using his
- 24:18lasers to shift to the other side of the room, I was like,
- 24:22ooh, that's hot. Do it again. Yeah, you know, like
- 24:26doing something like that too, Like, yeah, it was. It was
- 24:29very fun. And then sort of like the charge up to like you know,
- 24:33they're showing that they know how to work as a team, so even
- 24:37though we haven't seen them in a while, we can kind of chart their
- 24:41growth to be like, Okay, they know how to strategize. They're not
- 24:45overly dependent on Xavier. They're still doing what they have to do and making
- 24:51it work. It's not a perfect situation, but they're making it work.
- 24:56And I love that that. You know, you don't need the one guy.
- 25:00You know, Gene isn't there, so they might lose. Storm lost
- 25:03her power, so they might lose you know, Shorty got sucked into a
- 25:08video game, so no one knows what's gonna happen. Everyone's kind of holding
- 25:11their own and figuring their own story out instead of letting the bleed over,
- 25:18you know, knock everything down. And I do. I guess I love
- 25:21that. I'm here for all the character girl. Yeah, you are absolutely
- 25:25right when it comes to how they've been displaying their powers, like they they're
- 25:27much more creative than I remember them being, at least in the animation.
- 25:33And I will say I've always also been the one to be like jubilees useless,
- 25:37just because I always thought it was just it's literally just firecrackt as fireworks,
- 25:42Like what is that supposed to do? And then even like and I
- 25:45could tell like they they and maybe she was nerved back in the day.
- 25:49Her powers really are much more stronger than we think because even in the game,
- 25:53like she was doing her little blast, she was hitting Sentinels and Sentinel
- 25:59was like actually feeling it, and I'm like okay, And then I love
- 26:03love when she did that like power sharing kind of move with Future Jubilee,
- 26:07like like regul juliefu Julie when and I call it like they did a destructo
- 26:11disc and a spirit mom. It was all DBZ coded and I loved it.
- 26:15They just they just they did very well with that. So there were
- 26:18some there were some cool things that happened. So, but I will say
- 26:22I do love seeing them do different things with the powers that it is beyond
- 26:26what we even thought that they could could do. Right, So, I
- 26:29like you mentioned Cyclops, I felt like when he did that, people were
- 26:33like, wait a minute, was there some story where he did that,
- 26:37Like is there something that backs that up? But then it's just like,
- 26:40well, even if there is or isn't, it doesn't matter, like you
- 26:42can it makes sense, right, So and that's all I like. I
- 26:47like the fact that even though you've never seen it before or you're not sure
- 26:49of can they really do that, it still makes sense. Hmm. And
- 26:52their powers are a part of them, so like as you get older,
- 26:55you learn how to use a part of you in like different ways that benefit
- 26:59you. Yeah. Absolutely absolutely. Then we had into she wins at Then
- 27:06okay, great, move it away. We head into the life death part
- 27:11one part of the story and like I felt, I mean, I continuously
- 27:19keep feeling worse and worse for Storm. I mean, obviously this is a
- 27:22major story arc of hers from the comics. And then we get some really
- 27:27iconic panel shots of her from the comics. Again about this whole situation she
- 27:33goes through where she really does lose her powers and it's finding herself and to
- 27:37get see this in an animation form and again just beautiful animation work. And
- 27:41to see the pain in her eyes and like to have truly have something you
- 27:47feel is your core being being ripped from you, like on some violated type
- 27:53stuff like that. That was beyond sad for me. And to see her
- 27:57like even you've seen a little bit you seen her trying to deal with it,
- 28:02like it, I just felt very emotional for her. Yeah, I
- 28:07hate that I had to be her, Like I know that, I know
- 28:11this is an art, but did we really, man? I did I
- 28:12have to see this as soon as she jumped, and I was like,
- 28:15oh my baby, and I was just like, you know, we've come
- 28:22a long way because they got her. You know, they got her skin
- 28:25tone right, they got her hair right, her voice actor love her.
- 28:29I'm just like, please, I couldn't have storn for a good three or
- 28:33four episodes before you snatched her powers like that. I know, these black
- 28:38women in front of guns for white people, it's giving racism. Uh yeah,
- 28:45Monica, Yeah, but I don't know, but I will get I
- 28:51gave them again. I just gave them a you know. I was just
- 28:53like, I give them a pass because I said, okay, this is
- 28:56cannon whatever. I still also didn't want to see it. Yeah, so
- 29:03let's talk about Forge. You mentioned about him just immediately loving her after two
- 29:07minutes, and I mean the fact he's a huge simp and I thought it
- 29:12was kind of cute, but I was like, well, is he also
- 29:17using her like as a miacopa for all of his past transgressions? Want to
- 29:22be Captain saber Hoo, Like he was like, oh, here's a girl
- 29:26that I caused her problems. Let me let me save her and then she'll
- 29:30just go into my arms and we'll be happily ever after. It's like,
- 29:33that's not how it works for and not with stormat if anybody like, that's
- 29:37not how it works a period and too many men think that that's the way,
- 29:41but that's not how it works. And it's more so like if she
- 29:45could forgive me, I can forgive myself because if you really were about doing
- 29:51things the right way, you would have just told her. Because you cannot
- 29:55get an unethical outcome with an unethical approach. It just doesn't work. So
- 30:02it doesn't really matter. And I think that's kind of what Magneto's lesson has
- 30:06always been before, where it's like, hey, you have beautiful ideas,
- 30:11love you, love you, babe. How you're going about it absolutely ridiculous.
- 30:17You cannot do that. Yeah, So when he was explaining, he
- 30:21was like, well, if I told the truth when it came with me,
- 30:23and that's a risk you have to be willing to take because now you've
- 30:27broken trust. So now you're you have two things down. Instead of just
- 30:33being the guy that created these devices that could possibly help me, now it's
- 30:38the guy that created these devices that could possibly help me that lied to me,
- 30:44who is now telling me that he's in love with me. But he
- 30:47waited to tell me those two things together. It's not like it's yeah,
- 30:55you're you're not you're not building trust, but like you're you're the op and
- 30:59right so, and I think you cannot control how people react to you when
- 31:03you wrong them, and wanting to control that reaction of itself is an issue.
- 31:08You should have just been straight up. Of course she might have been
- 31:11mad. That's the correct response. It's messed up what you did. You
- 31:15got to eat that. If you can help, you should be trying to
- 31:19help anyway. Get to build into device babes, because she's not going to
- 31:23be the only one affected. You know that this weapon is out there,
- 31:26what's the hold up? His other excuse was that it was just his He
- 31:33drew up the schematics basically, but he ain't really build it. It was
- 31:37some guy in Sweden or whatever country he blamed it on. But at the
- 31:41end of the day, it's on you. You're forged. You're the genius
- 31:45level intellect that can build damn or anything or maybe anything. This is on
- 31:48you. I just felt like he was always I kind of like trying to
- 31:52throw the blame elsewhere. It was like this is where she said, like
- 31:59you about people should know the parents of trusting the people in Washington, and
- 32:01it's like, so you're a Native American, like you know the history of
- 32:07how your people have trusted white men in Washington to do the right thing for
- 32:12you, and over and over again they have sucked you over, so like
- 32:15Storre almost like, girl, you should know that these are not the people
- 32:19to trust, like pokemonas these white men are dangerous, Like we don't do
- 32:22that, Like you should have known better, and then you left without like
- 32:27taking a shit with you, like if I had left up and like,
- 32:29oh, I'm racing the hard drives. No one's getting any of my plans,
- 32:31like right, thinking that to go are at the very least you say,
- 32:37hey, I'm the one who built these plans. This shit is wrong.
- 32:42We need to fix this. You don't get to kind of be a
- 32:45genius and just kind of like hide your hands and be like, well I
- 32:50didn't I wasn't actually the one that did it. I didn't actually shoot her
- 32:53with it cool, but without you, it wouldn't exist. So you should
- 32:58be part of the solution, and it shouldn't wait until you're thrust into this
- 33:02situation. Of course you fell in love with Storm. Who wouldn't. That's
- 33:06not a big no, you know, big woop there. But you should
- 33:09have already been working on this. You should have been looking for people who
- 33:13could have built it. And that's why she slapped shit out of him,
- 33:16like no, I love that, Like I you know, I have my
- 33:22misgivings about other simps in the series. I e. Scott Summers. I
- 33:25don't like him. Got is such a bitch, Okay, but we'll talk
- 33:30about that at the time. Yes, I do not like the nigga come
- 33:35at me in the comments. We'll talk about it later. But I don't
- 33:38know, like and and the other thing that was weird and and and Storm
- 33:45mentioned this about like where they were, like where exactly were they lived in
- 33:50Arizona and the Grand Canyon something like that, there in some weird place because
- 33:55Texas. Oh they aren't textings, but where are they in two texts her
- 34:00in some weird like negazone because Storm made a comment about the wind always blowing
- 34:06east and that's why this eagle keeps circling around. It doesn't he doesn't leave
- 34:09right. And she was talking about how nothing everything stays the same, and
- 34:12then I think towards the end of the episode where we it's revealed that there's
- 34:17this big villain, I called it a Baltimore Raven, but Joel corrected me.
- 34:22It was like it's it's the adversary, you know, reveals like like
- 34:29like you see you see Storm riding off, like before the villain comes.
- 34:31You see her riding off because she she's upset with four Slap the shit out
- 34:35of him, get the fuck out my face. She goes off, you
- 34:38know, listening to the river Dance on Beyonce's album. And then and then
- 34:44she basically tumbles down a ditch, but she doesn't fall into you know,
- 34:49and and and you know die. She falls back into the house. And
- 34:53I'm just like, like, you know, like some weird like funhouse type
- 34:57situation where you don't really leave, everything stays the same, and I'm just
- 35:00like, are they caught up in something and don't know it? Or I
- 35:04mean, which makes me think like maybe Forge did fix Storm's powers, but
- 35:08like where they are, she can't feel the wind because there's no weather there,
- 35:13and so like maybe that's what's going on. Is like the Adversary has
- 35:17been some weird like bubble world and Storm actually can do her shit again.
- 35:22But because of like where they are, there's there's no atmosphere for her to
- 35:25control, and that's why she can't feel It makes sense. I would love
- 35:30for that to be the truth. Now watch them do exactly the opposite next
- 35:32week. But I don't know. I just when she said that, and
- 35:37then I was like watching the rest, I was like, wait a minute,
- 35:39this is strange. Are they where they say they are? But whatever?
- 35:46Who what? There was some more easter eggs in this. Oh yeah,
- 35:52Joel, you had a note about the easter eggs. Oh yeah,
- 35:55Ford sold like Storm like you better than anybody's should know how fast the weather
- 36:00can change. And I was like, where have I heard that before?
- 36:02And I looked it up. It was Charles said that to Storm and X
- 36:06Men The Last Stand? And I was like, oh, cut like switching
- 36:08out lines between your adaptation. Okay, did y'all did y'all like X Men
- 36:13Last Stand? Did y'all like the fox otitious? I like two out of
- 36:19all of them if I had to pay, You know, they're not so
- 36:24beautiful gowns. Oh okay, beautiful coup what I mean obviously? I mean,
- 36:34because that's just the way the story is going to go. Obviously,
- 36:36Storm's going to forgive this man, forgive, not forget right, And but
- 36:44also in the commons, they have a very contentious relationship anyway, Like you
- 36:49know, again Ben Ben was sharing that when we were it's just like their
- 36:51relationship is kind of fucked up anyway. So I guess it's fitting that again
- 36:55within five minutes he's like, I love you, but I'm also just like
- 37:00it feels also very toxic, and I'm concerned. I'm concerned because again Storm
- 37:06is in a very vulnerable spot and now you with this toxic asthma who says
- 37:10he wants to help, but then like you got to deal with his emotional
- 37:13trauma too. I don't know, It's not always how it goes so and
- 37:20I hate that, generally speaking, women female characters generally have to put aside
- 37:29whatever it is that they're feeling for the greater goods, and usually that thing
- 37:34that they're putting aside is their hurt, their pain, or disrespect. I
- 37:42feel like we always have to make that choice where it's like we know that
- 37:46there is no way that this should happen, but we also know that Force
- 37:52is a character in this world yeah, and we know that chances are and
- 38:00we're already we're already like we have two low triangles mm hmm. We got
- 38:07the two youngsters making out on the video. Yeah, and like I said
- 38:13earlier, bring back Yarany. Yeah, the two divorces in the other room,
- 38:16who wherever they are, Magneto and Rode being weird in the training room,
- 38:22like you know, there's a lot happening. There's a lot happening,
- 38:28Okay, And obviously, like this is limited episodes, I'm gonna say,
- 38:30how long is it going to take Forged to fix this? The tardest he
- 38:35threw in before did not work, So what now? How is this going
- 38:38to happen? And how they're gonna get out of this situation with the adversary
- 38:45thesodes are moving fast. Yeah, I don't know that it's gonna take that
- 38:49long. And I did read today that they they bought season three, so
- 38:54we're getting a season three. I know. I'm I'm not here for the
- 39:00Scott Wolverine Jeanie Gray, not that much yearning some somewhere in the middle,
- 39:09so you're gonna get there at the end of season one. I hope that
- 39:14we see Storm getting her powers back, but I do appreciate that it's not
- 39:17an immediate fix. I appreciate that there is some more there, and I
- 39:25hope that we do get to see a continuation of whatever is going on with
- 39:30Techno Clone Baby Noble. That's right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like
- 39:44I said, there's a lot happening, which is weird because they've met Cable
- 39:47in the old series. Yeah, that's what I was like, I recalled
- 39:52the meaning unless he like erased the memories or something like that, or this
- 39:57is just a different version, you know how you know again the multiverse,
- 40:00this is just a different version of what they've been done. But doesn't make
- 40:04sense though, because you believe and other people recall stuff that's happened back in
- 40:07the original Yeah, so okay, whatever it is, what it is.
- 40:16I do know that we do get a few other episodes, maybe one or
- 40:22two more episodes before we get Life def Part two, which I presume has
- 40:25to be the conclusion of this very condensed arc. They even did that,
- 40:30like even with the whole Madeline prior thing, Like I was like, that's
- 40:34a jump, like for the whole Clone thing, and all of a sudden,
- 40:37when you said, what's your name? She gives a very specific call
- 40:40me Maddeline Prior. That's a very specific thought out name, Like you know,
- 40:45like if someone just says, what's your stripper name, You're gonna be
- 40:47sitting there for at least ten minutes to try to figure it out. So
- 40:50it just seems very unlikely to me that that would happen. But you know,
- 40:54this is the this is TV magic. You gotta do what you gotta
- 40:57do. We are not going to have too much time with all these characters.
- 41:01But I do appreciate you said we're gonna get it. Well, obviously
- 41:05we get an episode season two, but we're gonna get it season three as
- 41:07well. They do y'all want more episodes right now? I think it's only
- 41:14they're only having ten episodes this season. Do y'all want Do you think they
- 41:16need more episode? Do you think they need more time? Longer episodes or
- 41:20everything's perfect? I wish for longer episodes, but I also feel like if
- 41:25we got a longer episode with the heaviness of say the first three episodes,
- 41:30that might be overkilled. So even though it always leaves you wanting more,
- 41:37I think that's the perfect place to be in with it, just so that
- 41:42they don't, I think overdo it and they can paste the writing and really
- 41:46think about how they want to flesh out the story. Because guarantee three seasons,
- 41:52that's still thirty episodes. I don't need twenty twenty episodes. I'm okay,
- 41:59give me ten good episodes though, as long as there's ten good ones,
- 42:02M yeah, I think for me, Like, I'm just kind of
- 42:07curious, like where is this going with everything? Like is this eventually gonna
- 42:13connect to other stuff? Which, like if it does, cool, but
- 42:16like I'm also happy if it's just like its own universe and we just get
- 42:20to have like the X Men in their own bubble. But it's like what
- 42:23are you What are y'all's plans for this? Like I just need to know
- 42:27so that I can be like invested in whatever it is. Like I'm happy
- 42:30if like the X Men just get their own thing. They don't need to
- 42:34be involved with all the shenanigans happen in the live action stuff and it's like
- 42:37they deal with their problems and that's it and that's cool. But like if
- 42:42this is going to connect to other stuff, like rip the band aid already
- 42:45so that I can get to the good stuff. Of the X Men,
- 42:49which is like the stuff we're kind of seeing now, which is like if
- 42:52their own problems, their own issues, like they're solving their own things,
- 42:54and it doesn't have to do with all the random other stuff happening in the
- 42:58world, right I do. I initially did feel like, you know,
- 43:01this is gonna connect to the MCU at some point and to live action,
- 43:07but then I'm like, really, right now, the MCU is not in
- 43:09the best spot, and they actually have a lot of rebuilding and rebuilding of
- 43:14trust to do. And I actually, you know, some of the more
- 43:19recent movies, I actually enjoyed it to varying degrees, but overall, like
- 43:24they don't have that sparkling reputation that it once had right where it was just
- 43:29like, yo, we got the connect and Joel's fading off into the moon.
- 43:32I'll let you, I'll let you put on a lighter sting. But
- 43:37it's actually I agree with y'all or you, Joe. I don't actually want
- 43:44them to even deal with that at all, Like if it could be its
- 43:47own bubble, fin I let it be in its owne bubble. But I
- 43:50feel like, especially if when they start redeeming a live action they're gonna make
- 43:53it connect at some point. I mean they threw Monica. I mean that
- 43:58was the Fox version, but they do Monica in like, We've got a
- 44:04lot of cameos, and I don't think I want them to connect it,
- 44:08okay, because here's the thing. I feel like X Men has the same
- 44:13issue that DC has. Your lane is animation. Stay there, bang out
- 44:21the animations. Give us some amazing animated movies. Hey put the animated movies
- 44:25in the movie theater. We'll go buy We'll buy the ticket. I will
- 44:29go. They know that's not a problem. But the issue is when they
- 44:34are trying to be Marvel. X Men has never really been able to find
- 44:39its identity fleshed out in the live action and whenever the animated series does good
- 44:47or the game does good, or people get nostalgic for X Men, they
- 44:52do a live action movie that we don't acknowledge. They do a live action
- 44:58movie where they get one thing right and most things wrong. Have a question
- 45:02for you, then, do you think that's just a symptom of just the
- 45:07type of stories these are about and having an issue just having not being good
- 45:14at translating it, or do you think this is Fox's fault because remember Fox
- 45:17was doing all this the movies anyway, all this time, and then now
- 45:22you know, now Marvel got it. So do you think that things can
- 45:25change. I think they really have to commit to what works. It's okay
- 45:34to not be Marvel, And I think right now the interest is in replicating
- 45:39that. It is in creating an expansive world in exactly the same way.
- 45:45They always start with the movies and Batman's done it. And every time the
- 45:50movies don't, it doesn't take off the way that they expect it to.
- 45:53They give it two years and they start it over. It doesn't work.
- 45:58The stories are darker, they're messier. It gets really weird and awkward when
- 46:05that's on the big screen. Yeah. Yeah, the audience is not going
- 46:09to be as wide. It's not as palatable for everyone. You're not going
- 46:15to be able to have a lot of rated e for everyone shows. It's
- 46:20just not And you have to be okay with that. You have to be
- 46:22okay with saying our strength is writing really good character development. Our strength is
- 46:30seeing things through the end. Our strength is a callback from you know,
- 46:34you have to build your own strengths. But instead it's why can't you love
- 46:39us like you love Marvelous like Babes. I don't want to see the messy
- 46:45love triangle in a movie over eight years. I don't. I don't either.
- 46:51I don't. I'm completely done with that. Yeah, But the animated
- 46:54series it's great, it's lovely. I hope they spend time important energy into
- 47:01continuing too deepen that world. So, like Joel, I really hope they
- 47:06keep it as their own standalone thing because it does deserve that attention. It
- 47:10does deserve. The writing has been great, it's been great. They really
- 47:16just need to stick to what works, Okay, And I would say,
- 47:22when it comes to the remainder of x N ninety seven season and even beyond,
- 47:27where would y'all like to see them pour more energy into? Is there
- 47:30a particular storyline you want them to jump into? Do you want them when
- 47:34you want to see certain places in the more recent comm it's certain people.
- 47:38For the more recent comm it's like, what would you like to see?
- 47:45I mean, I feel like I, like many people would love to see
- 47:47curcoa, but I don't know how they would fit that in. You know,
- 47:52I'd love to see a health fire dollar just for the gowns, like
- 47:54I want to see everyone stunt in their outfits. Also just like a big
- 48:00heart hot spot for Apocalypse and like I just want to see big daddy a
- 48:05walk up and be like, what's up, y'all? Like it's me the
- 48:07first welcome. Oh that's a good one. I would love to see apocalypse.
- 48:12What about you, Insidia? Yeah, I think for me there x
- 48:15men has great feelings and I would I would love to see how they would
- 48:21use them now. But honestly, just happy to be here. I'm really
- 48:25happy to be here. I'm I'm going to smile and wave for whatever I
- 48:30get. Yeah, and that's my thing. I'm so happy with what I'm
- 48:37getting. And again I'm open to whatever it turns into because I'm happy for
- 48:40it to be its own thing. Yeah, and I do hope the and
- 48:45I'm sorry, Like the one who helped create all this he got ousted.
- 48:49I don't know why. I know the rumors have been some you know,
- 48:53sexual assault type thing, and it could be I don't know, but I
- 49:00would say, whoever comes in next and the team that comes in next to
- 49:02like really ride the wave of this, because I'm always concerned that when something
- 49:07is so well received like this, and then you have that pressure of replicating
- 49:13that over and over again. And then sometimes you have this insurmountable level that
- 49:19you have to meet or exceed, and when you do minute, you're like,
- 49:23it can be one hundred percent. Maybe you got to ninety five percent,
- 49:25people are like, oh, it's trash, and I'm I am concerned
- 49:30about that. Like sometimes when this stuff is so so good, and then
- 49:32you are expecting the world right the next time around, and and honestly,
- 49:37it's it's a catch twenty two. It's like, yeah, you're good,
- 49:39so I expect you to be good right next time around. But then it's
- 49:44also like sometimes I feel like it generates unrealistic expectations out of the audience as
- 49:50well. So then please just have people of color in that writing room,
- 49:54Like The Excellent is just such a story about marginalized people like only us can
- 50:00tell like their experiences and like how it is to be in this world.
- 50:05Mm hmmm. Absolutely, And I mean we do have writers of color that
- 50:09are in this season, which so I feel like it shows where it needs
- 50:14to show. But again, I'm just hoping that that this continues on as
- 50:19we as we progress and as we grow and I'm I don't know, I'm
- 50:23excited about this. I'm excited about this. I agree with y'all. Let's
- 50:27let's keep it here. Probably just keep it on TV too. I don't
- 50:30even know if I want to see in the theater, to be honest with
- 50:31you, but yeah, like I don't even want them to get ideas,
- 50:35like I'm so sorry I said that out loud like that. Yeah, you
- 50:40could do like an animated movie, like like an Age of Apocalypse, kind
- 50:46of like little amianated animal feature that would be locally, but I don't need
- 50:51the live action. Yeah, okay, okay, all right, all right,
- 50:57okay. I hope so also that they know when to call it,
- 51:00because I think that is also the detriment of a lot of good shows,
- 51:06where because it's been good, they're going to keep, you know, pouring
- 51:12into it, but the time has passed or what the show came to do
- 51:16has already been accomplished. So I hope they also know when to say,
- 51:21hey, you know, we wanted to give you X Men ninety seven and
- 51:25thank you for watching X Men ninety seven, and here's the next thing that
- 51:30we're working on that's very smart and that's very hard for a lot of people,
- 51:35especially when things make money that it's like we're just gonna keep going to
- 51:37the ship goes down capitalism. Well, on that note, thank you all
- 51:43for watching us. Next week we are going to be reviewing episode five titled
- 51:50Remember It. We're gonna see some Genosha action, some un action, and
- 51:55also stuff back at the Mansion, so we'll see how that goes. Is
