Transcript
- 0:02Ah, I welcome. Welcome everyone to the 50th
- 0:09episode of the linen suits and plastic tie podcast.
- 0:13This is the podcast, we work to unlock the amazing, the Epic,
- 0:16the cool, the amazing. Again, the suspenders, this
- 0:19cunning the Epic, again. How our storytelling?
- 0:22And you everyday lives, I'm going with it on Kevin.
- 0:26Welcome to episode 50. Well, today we are joined by two
- 0:36of our favorite. People are closest friends are
- 0:39amazing. People that mean a lot to us,
- 0:41people who have seen us grow over the last seven or so years,
- 0:45one of them you recognize she's been on the show before she's
- 0:48been on every season of this show.
- 0:50She has been listening to every single episode since the first
- 0:53one came out, ladies and gentlemen, one of the very few
- 0:56people on Earth, who knew about the podcast, besides Kevin, I
- 0:58before it launched. Sophia Costas.
- 1:01Every time we actually guys, you told her about the podcast
- 1:06before you did, you did, did I? Yes, we her and her fiance were
- 1:13at the apartment. I was staying at and you told
- 1:17her Yeah. And I'm waiting to become a big
- 1:24part of it because my mom might listen to this and she might
- 1:26find out someone else knew before her.
- 1:28And that's gonna be a problem for me.
- 1:30If you don't think that's gonna be a problem.
- 1:32For, you've never met my mother. I don't know.
- 1:35I feel like your mom likes me, so maybe because it's me.
- 1:38My mom loves you. But she was annoyed that she
- 1:41didn't know before the first episode came out.
- 1:45I didn't work. We didn't tell anyone, but
- 1:48before we keep going, we have one more person to introduce.
- 1:50We talked about him. Before on the show he is known
- 1:52as Captain America. Ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:55Benjamin Brandt say hi Benji. Hey, how are you?
- 1:58Hey, I'm Benji. Evidently I was smart or scarily
- 2:02stupid enough to live with these folks for four years and I
- 2:06happen to run into Sophia more on more than one occasion.
- 2:09I'm just happy to be here. All right, as is our usual
- 2:14segment to start off the show for Benji and Sofia, let's start
- 2:21off. By telling everyone a little bit
- 2:24about yourself. What is your story?
- 2:27And when we get a Sofia, how has your story changed since you
- 2:32asked, I have been on the show, you know, it's really funny, but
- 2:39we were like before this year getting said trying to start
- 2:42recording. I completely blanked out that we
- 2:44do this 49 times. It's a core part of the show.
- 2:51Oh, I completely forgot. We start out with, what's your
- 2:54story? That is why that is how nervous
- 2:56I am for this. So Angie was time.
- 2:58A few, what's your story? Well, I guess the the best place
- 3:03to start is probably the beginning.
- 3:04So I was born in Buffalo. That doesn't really carry over a
- 3:08whole lot into me in the present day except I'm a big Buffalo
- 3:10Bills. Fan, go, Joshua Allen go,
- 3:12Buffalo Bills and all the misery before Josh Allen other than
- 3:18that. Like, you know, mainly a
- 3:20California Kid That most of my life.
- 3:22In La, I went to UCLA with you, wonderful people for college,
- 3:26and I study computer science that kind of led me into
- 3:29software engineering as a career.
- 3:31So I do currently, I work at a start-up based out of New York
- 3:35called mad Hive, and that's kind of doing anything and everything
- 3:39depends on the day. What had I'm wearing before
- 3:41that? I was working in self-driving
- 3:42cars, kind of looking at how you do you simulate them?
- 3:45How do you test them? How do you make sure they're
- 3:47kind of doing the things are supposed to be doing?
- 3:49Yeah and so I've been able to I think already get a pretty wide
- 3:53gamut of experiences and I'm excited to see where it goes
- 3:57from here. I'm curious to if because what
- 4:00kind of harping on you guys dislike put a typical new
- 4:04listener, right? Who's kind of just gone into the
- 4:06show little bit. Have listened to a few episodes
- 4:08long time ago. But you've been bouncing around.
- 4:10So Marco episodes. Did you feel the the the quality
- 4:15change? Yes.
- 4:17Okay, talks like that. Well, I mean, it's from Little
- 4:21Things, the big things right in the beginning, you guys are
- 4:23clearly kind of nervous. You know, you have lower quality
- 4:25microphones but the content is still there and then as it goes
- 4:29along it's really just the microphones are getting better,
- 4:32your comfortability with talking about whatever it happens to be
- 4:36for the weak or talking with each other or bantering with a
- 4:38guest. It's all kind of settling in and
- 4:40settling out to where you listen to.
- 4:43Like I listen to an episode from December 2020 and then I listen
- 4:46to an episode. Whatever.
- 4:47Your most recent one was You can really really feel the
- 4:51difference and it's all like, very good and it kinda reminds
- 4:53me of there was some YouTubers watching the other day said,
- 4:57something very similar where it's like, you go out and you
- 4:59throw out your first 10 or 50 or 100, whatever episodes and it's
- 5:03kind of as a learning experience.
- 5:04And it's a way that's where, you know, you have some number and
- 5:07suddenly you look back and you're like, wow, this is as
- 5:09professional as I ever wanted it to be you know and I think a
- 5:12part of it for me coming from actually MKBHD.
- 5:18Yeah, monkey spoony. I remember this video, he did,
- 5:21we're obviously, he's one of the 12 top YouTubers, very
- 5:24professional unlike us. This is his full-time career and
- 5:28he's very successful at it. And something he said in one of
- 5:31his videos, while ago is, like he said, go back, go to my
- 5:34YouTube channel and go to my old sword by oldest to newest and
- 5:38watch the first episode. If you're a fan of mine and you
- 5:41watching my video and you're like, oh, I can't do that, I'm
- 5:43not a professional. I don't have professional
- 5:44cameras on a special, anything, go back and listen to watch my
- 5:47first episode. You'll eyes that you can do.
- 5:51You might be intimidated by my current episode of all the money
- 5:54in the fall was everything. I'd have, if you go back to my
- 5:56first episode, especially Aztec has changed and everything's
- 5:59become more professional that you can do.
- 6:01And that was a huge concept for the show.
- 6:03Was that looking back, 50 episodes.
- 6:05We've grown so much we've changed so much, you become
- 6:07better story, tell us a text on it better, but if you go back to
- 6:12our first episode, even though the guests was amazing, I don't
- 6:14want to discredit dr. Taylor Prescott Johnson who he
- 6:16loved. The audio quality was terrible.
- 6:20I think I was recording on a lavalier mic like we tried our
- 6:24best, but hand, it's a change. But anyways, welcome back,
- 6:28Sofia. Why don't you introduce yourself
- 6:31since we had some technical difficulties and say and what is
- 6:34your story? Well hello everyone.
- 6:38Glad to be back since I've been on the show prior I don't want
- 6:42to give the same story I guess. And I also think the version of
- 6:47my story if you will that I gave prior really was driven by
- 6:53career and I am currently not in the mood to focus their, I do
- 6:58still work in the same field its user experience design strategy,
- 7:02applied to analytics I'm still in Tech different company doing
- 7:05my thing. That's all fine.
- 7:07But I'm going to place where that's not my entire life and
- 7:11I'm very glad that that's the case.
- 7:12So we're not to focus there instead.
- 7:14I guess we can focus on the other side, my life, otherwise
- 7:18story-wise. I guess my story has evolved
- 7:21from personal relationships, I went from being in a very
- 7:23long-term committed relationship to that relationship becoming
- 7:25being engaged and currently planning weddings, that's a very
- 7:28exciting new stage of my life, moving into a stage of life
- 7:33where we're looking at, you know, buying property and
- 7:36settling down into like, Single family homes, things like that.
- 7:39So it's more starting a new story as I guess, from me for my
- 7:45personal, life standpoint, a story as a An official family if
- 7:51you will for me and your family unit and what that looks like.
- 7:53So I would say that's that's my updated story as opposed to
- 7:56talking about career stuff because you know, wedding just
- 7:59seems more exciting and Jazzy. Anyways, right.
- 8:02Yeah, well, congratulations, I'm getting engaged.
- 8:06Obviously this is the first time we're hearing about it.
- 8:09But yeah. So we're really excited for
- 8:13Sofia getting engaged and I think this is an interesting
- 8:16question, what is your story? And we talked about it in blue.
- 8:19Leaf in past 49 episodes but exactly what you were saying
- 8:23Sophie about how the last time you talked about more career
- 8:26space. Because that's where your mind
- 8:27was at or that was the place you in your life.
- 8:29And now that you're you moved on to a more very adult engaged in
- 8:33building a family that is taking a more prominent place in your
- 8:36life. I think this is why we ask that
- 8:38question, what is your story and we are able to mind so much
- 8:42information from about the person would just meeting from
- 8:46that question because the way they frame their life where they
- 8:48frame, what's important Way they frame the characters in their
- 8:50life and that's its kind of see what's important to them, in
- 8:54that sense and then ask questions based on it, right?
- 8:57And that's why we always no matter how much research we do
- 9:00on the guests, we didn't do any research on either of you.
- 9:03I'm sorry, we've known you guys better part of a decade.
- 9:06So we didn't do any actual research, but no matter how much
- 9:09we research the guests, we find it very refreshing and important
- 9:13to let them frame their story, and then go after that, and then
- 9:16change our questions based on that.
- 9:17Because if we come in thinking, we know, Them it's just not
- 9:21going to work, right? It just can be very still and
- 9:23it's going to make them feel like they have to perform in
- 9:25that box. And while any type of recording,
- 9:28you performing some sort of box, we preferred letting them flame
- 9:32this story. Yeah, I mean we touched upon
- 9:35that over and over to you are supposed to tell your own story,
- 9:39and we get that agency. And in that power to everyone,
- 9:44we bring onto our show, because we're as much as Inches said and
- 9:50learn about their storytelling techniques and stuff.
- 9:53Everyone has a unique and interesting story and we like to
- 9:58hear it their way the way they want to tell it.
- 10:02Speaking of which I just thought of a question for Benji as we
- 10:08were setting up earlier, I think gaurav ask this question, what
- 10:13was your first impression of him?
- 10:17So let's bring That, let's bring that question on to record.
- 10:23What was your first impression of him and to this Bunch?
- 10:27Because that's how we started to know each other.
- 10:30When we met each other in college.
- 10:33I think the real question is, is what was his first impression of
- 10:36the email that Goro? No, I was gonna say, I'm gonna
- 10:41say, that's not the email. That's not, that's not a pie.
- 10:49We're talking about the email now.
- 10:51So, so for context I came to UCLA from Pittsburgh.
- 10:55Pittsburgh is where I went to high school.
- 10:57And so I'm coming into this concept of, like, I'm going to
- 11:00be a college student. I have to now get to know all
- 11:03these new people. This is frightening and
- 11:04exciting, and all that fun stuff that comes with college.
- 11:07And we get our random roommate assignments because I got
- 11:09randomly assigned, not only a community and UCLA to live in
- 11:12but a random set of Roommates as well.
- 11:15And it's like, okay there's like five people.
- 11:17None of these names are really popping out to me.
- 11:19Me, let's kind of see if anybody breaks the ice and wouldn't you
- 11:23know it you get a little email in your inbox from gaurav and
- 11:26he's talking about essentially himself.
- 11:29So actually let me see if I can pull up the email.
- 11:31I might I might read it a little bit.
- 11:36Here we go to know. Okay.
- 11:37It's titled. Its title to Hitch.
- 11:39Roommates and it says, hello, it appears.
- 11:41You are all going to be roommates next year.
- 11:43I'm really excited to meet you all.
- 11:45My name is Cora. I'm a technologist geek and a
- 11:48business economics. From Toronto, Ontario Canada.
- 11:51Exclamation point. My hobbies include TV comic
- 11:54books and programming and my ultimate goal in life is to
- 11:56start my own technology oriented company.
- 11:59I'm moving my stuff into the hitch on 15th.
- 12:01When are you? I do, however have one living
- 12:04constraint and he goes on to talk about his allergies and
- 12:06then we have at the very end. He says once again I am so
- 12:10excited to meet you all question mark thank you Gorham.
- 12:14Okay question mark was that? I don't know if it was a typo.
- 12:21I think I think knowing, you know, the question mark is
- 12:23definitely right up your alley. I think that fits your whole
- 12:25mode of like I'm so excited but like nervous at the same time,
- 12:29the to the question stands been the question man's what we hear
- 12:33the ocean. So from that I was like okay
- 12:38this is interesting. This guy is going to be is going
- 12:40to be a character and I remember I showed it to my older brother
- 12:43Mark and I was like, yeah. So what do you think about this?
- 12:46And he was like, that guy's going to have your back and I
- 12:48was like, Okay, I'll stick with that.
- 12:51I'm going to take that going into it.
- 12:52And then I remember you show up the move-in day, the big nerves
- 12:55and, you know, your parents are crying and you're crying.
- 12:59And I walked into my room for the first time and corals like,
- 13:02hunched over his suitcase with his dad.
- 13:04Like, fiddling around a little bit.
- 13:06I remember, they both kind of turned around stood up and
- 13:07walked over and like shook my hand were like hi, I'm a show
- 13:10kind of Aura ever being like damn Mark was right, very cute,
- 13:15very cute, great email. I mean, it became such a running
- 13:19joke. Look like frat boy, one who
- 13:21talked about before on the show ended up posting on his
- 13:23Instagram when that was his graduation Post.
- 13:26Yeah, I think know, he's graduation is a photo of him and
- 13:28then he just quoted the Bayou or the like the caption was the
- 13:31email and let's not forget. You also sent a new iteration of
- 13:36that email every single year. So there is a good option in
- 13:38joke because we didn't give it for years.
- 13:40So every year they got a new email, every email we Gail did
- 13:44the past of the horrible roommates.
- 13:47I had lived with the year before which was Was also them, so.
- 13:52I think every single one included the once again I'm so
- 13:54excited to meet you all question mark and the question mark are
- 13:57big and bigger but you just like, you know, what was the
- 14:02first impression of Kevin I thought it was really cool.
- 14:06I remember there is this common room called the kitchen and so
- 14:10there's a bunch of people coming in.
- 14:11We're trying to, you know, get get to meet people and I
- 14:14remember Kevin just kind of came up to me and he's like, tall and
- 14:16a little lanky. And was just like, hey, I'm
- 14:18Kevin, like, how are you? And I was like, oh, I'm Benjy.
- 14:20Like, what are you into? And he started talking about
- 14:22basketball and just kind of generally, I think we somehow
- 14:25got on the topic of EA Sports, like NBA games.
- 14:28I was just like, okay, Kevin's also up my alley and like, That
- 14:33I think proceeded over the course of the Year where like by
- 14:35the end of freshman year, even though Kevin wasn't actually a
- 14:38roommate group, just like Kevin's are grooming.
- 14:40Like he is The Unofficial like seventh roommate and by
- 14:43unofficial, I mean official because you might as well just
- 14:45move a bed in and death, then we made it official the next year
- 14:48when you actually moved in with us and we kept it this the same
- 14:52group ever since then, you know, something you would type it
- 14:55early. I do.
- 14:55I want to dig into you. You mentioned cool when this
- 14:58time Kevin. Yeah.
- 15:00I'm curious what you guys think of the monarch of cool.
- 15:03I think. And I think this is a lot to my
- 15:05own bag is in the stories. I tell myself, but I've been
- 15:08thinking a lot about what this cool mean to me the word cool,
- 15:11the story. Cool.
- 15:12And usually the anti come up with is cool is everything.
- 15:15I'm not right obviously very toxic obviously in here in the
- 15:20untrue, but I think because I kind of didn't have a lot of
- 15:24friends in high school. I didn't date at all.
- 15:25I wasn't doing that. The thing that in the high
- 15:28school movie is the cool kids, right?
- 15:30I didn't have it, then the journey way became cool at the
- 15:33end of the movie, right? I never felt cool and as I've
- 15:37like and I feel like right now especially I'm working with some
- 15:40really cool people. I feel like everyone I work with
- 15:41around. Me is cool in my new job.
- 15:45I'm excited to evaluate what I think cool is that you for a
- 15:49long time? I was just like, I'm not cool.
- 15:50I'm okay with that. That's cool.
- 15:53I'm not cool. That's cool.
- 15:54I'm okay with that but I'm trying to realize that's
- 15:56actually can be very limiting, right?
- 15:58Where I feel like maybe I don't belong in certain I was like, I
- 16:01don't belong out partying every night or like, doing this and
- 16:04stuff and or maybe these are stuff.
- 16:06I don't actually want to do, but I feel like that's a cool person
- 16:09would do. So I'm curious what you guys
- 16:11think of the word, cool. And is it a label that you find
- 16:14empowering? Like you find yourself?
- 16:16Cool. Or is it kind of intimidating?
- 16:18Because you don't find yourself core.
- 16:21I think the way that I think about cool is normally almost
- 16:25synonymous with ambience something.
- 16:27Like, oh, that's cool or they're cool.
- 16:30I'm envious of them, but I think it's slightly.
- 16:32Different than what you're saying, because Gora when you
- 16:35say, say it's toxic that almost implies to me that it's like a
- 16:39interpreted as like a self-loathing and I don't I
- 16:41don't it doesn't mean that like There is nothing great about me
- 16:46or there's nothing cool about me.
- 16:47If I think something else is cool because I don't have those
- 16:49qualities, I just don't have those qualities.
- 16:50I can still have cool qualities. I can still in the things that I
- 16:53think other people might be envious of, right?
- 16:55Like I don't think it's binary or all or nothing.
- 16:59I think that for me, it just means envious of that particular
- 17:03quality. And that's why it's kind of
- 17:05ambiguous because it's not like cool is effortless or cool is
- 17:09whatever. It's just sort of like, in
- 17:11essence of being envious of Leti, that somebody else has.
- 17:16And that's why I think, you know, for one person, it could
- 17:17be going out and partying, like, for the folks on this call who
- 17:21know me, I will never be like, oh man, that's so cool.
- 17:24They go out partying every night because that's the counter
- 17:26opposite of who I am. And it's nothing that I like
- 17:29strive to be as a person. So that's nothing that's ever
- 17:33going to like spark my mind. But for orbit does because I
- 17:35think it's so driven by what you personally like have I don't
- 17:41know, just it's what I have when I'm anxious about its what?
- 17:45The story, I tell myself, it's like I think for me, it's
- 17:47because I know we've all talked about this in various ways.
- 17:51I want to be everything, always the max, right?
- 17:57I want to do everything always like, I want to be meditating
- 18:01real, antique camera do, but I also want to be out every night
- 18:03and doing this cool things and feeling cool, and I think it
- 18:06does come a lot from that story that we have decades now.
- 18:11Pattern site that we built in our head and neural networks, a
- 18:14things that we built in our minds.
- 18:16And I think for me this feeling of uncool and that that phrase,
- 18:20cool has always felt like not me, right?
- 18:23So I don't see it as healthy as you do Sophia, where like you
- 18:27have aspects that you feel cool. I feel like it's just like, it's
- 18:30unattainable thing and it's a story.
- 18:32I know it's not true and I know there's a lot of things but it's
- 18:34like, it's that story of like cool, is this unobtainable
- 18:40object? So then I started so
- 18:41Associating. Okay, what is cool and I start
- 18:43associating things like cool is what I see on Instagram and so
- 18:46I'm not on in scale. But cool is what I see an answer
- 18:49whether here or like, what the guys, and caught in high school
- 18:52would doing when I was at home, studying, or working or reading
- 18:56comic books, right? And I felt, I spent so much time
- 18:59trying to be okay with not being cool.
- 19:01I didn't really take the time to understand that story that was
- 19:04building my head and so it became this like mythical Fein
- 19:08that was kind of always unattainable.
- 19:10It's interesting. You also attribute uncool to
- 19:13things. The only time I think I use it
- 19:16in that context is more as an idiom.
- 19:18Like that's not cool man. And that to me just means like
- 19:21it's inappropriate. I like, completely forgot that
- 19:23that was even a legitimate word that you could look up in the
- 19:27dictionary and see a definition for because it seems so foreign
- 19:30to me to think of someone or something as uncool just in the
- 19:34sense that like their dorky or they lack don't know, they don't
- 19:40have good Style. Tile or whatever it is, I don't
- 19:42know. Yeah, I think I think that's not
- 19:44uncommon to have this narrative that they're the cool people,
- 19:47they go and they do the cool things and they're like this
- 19:50kind of thing you live up to or try to live up to.
- 19:53And if you're not, you're not cool.
- 19:54Right? And I think it's interesting
- 19:57because I would at least perceive that in some of the
- 19:59media, I was consuming and to some extent at some point.
- 20:02I don't know, when I kind of just said a screw that like, my
- 20:05kind of interpretation of cool and special.
- 20:06When I said Kevin was cool as kind of like, You have the
- 20:11understanding of who you are and what you like, and you're
- 20:13totally feeling free to be authentic about that and you're
- 20:16also chill enough to say, hey, that person likes that thing
- 20:19that's cool too, right? That's kind of way I interpret
- 20:22it as more of a I'm confident who I am, and I like what I am.
- 20:27And also, you, like what? You like that's awesome to like,
- 20:30there's no ideal I guess to strive for.
- 20:33There's just stuff that we like to do.
- 20:37Yeah. And I flip flop.
- 20:40I think when I'm not sleeping enough, drinking enough water if
- 20:43I'm not, like when I'm not feeling confident, I definitely
- 20:46go to the place. Like I'm not cool and it's as I
- 20:49am. I struggle with social
- 20:51comparison like Ayo. I have a long time, I think this
- 20:54would cool and I think I spent the first half of this year
- 20:57really focused on forgiving my past selves.
- 21:00I'm forgiving them for not taking more chances on forgiving
- 21:03them for not doing the things that I see as cool.
- 21:07Right or To make more friends or like, going out and doing all
- 21:11these things. I'm forgiving them because I'm
- 21:13realizing that they are very particular.
- 21:16I'm talking about my past sales in the third person, they were
- 21:20just trying their best, they were just out there doing their
- 21:25best, you know? And I think it has so much to do
- 21:29with this concept of cool. We're like in therapy, the
- 21:31reason this coming up for me because a video today, I was
- 21:33like talking about like oh I don't feel cool like all this
- 21:36stuff but cool and then my favorite housing Is that what
- 21:39you think or is, right? It is really like we didn't dive
- 21:42too deep in it, but as we had that moment of, oh, oh, it's a
- 21:45story. I'm defining.
- 21:46What I think all is. It's a story that I am choosing
- 21:50its story that I have built in my mind and that's like you were
- 21:53saying earlier, Sophia, it's a story, I can change.
- 21:56There's also this aspect of expectation vs reality.
- 22:00I think we all, you know, before we got into college, you see,
- 22:06you know, movies or TV shows that Or tray, the college
- 22:10experience, right? That that that's quintessential
- 22:13and the Very fact that we keep emphasizing.
- 22:17The college is not the best four years of your lives over and
- 22:21over also comes with like the premise that, you know, this is
- 22:26supposed to be an extremely fun time, or a can very well be.
- 22:31But then, you know, we've all graduated and we've have very
- 22:36full, I think college. Experiences, all of us in a lot
- 22:43of those days are, you know, playing or stressful or whatnot
- 22:47but I think we can all look back at those days and reflect on it
- 22:51and say we've had really fun times and in college some of
- 22:56those experiences matched with what we imagined.
- 23:01Right? There's there's a lot of very
- 23:04spontaneous fun moments. Also a lot of those days were
- 23:07not That you can find anywhere on any shows or movies but you
- 23:14know, we lit that and I think there is this idea of what we
- 23:18see in media, right? And the stories we consume and
- 23:21how these stories tell us certain things.
- 23:23And when we watch a lot of them that have similar themes like
- 23:26this is what life supposed to be and is that would to of like
- 23:29supposed to be right? Where we all believe there's a
- 23:31path was supposed to be on for me, it has much to do with my
- 23:35career, like this is happening socially on.
- 23:37I'm terrified of Like wasting time.
- 23:40Like I might have to always be moving taking every opportunity
- 23:43because it's the story of like this.
- 23:44What I'm supposed to be doing I should be doing and I think one
- 23:49of the stories that that I think today prolific is the one in a
- 23:53million story that sometimes it can be.
- 23:56I find really, really tough to kind of deal with is this idea
- 24:01that we over index on the one-in-a-million story, right?
- 24:04This idea that this is the, if I go to this event, I might meet
- 24:07this person who's going to be My co-founder or be the love of my
- 24:10life because the mundane parts of life don't become movies,
- 24:15right? It's my secret said, this about
- 24:17the social network, the hours, and hours of him sitting in
- 24:20front of a computer coding, isn't entertaining for a movie,
- 24:23right? But the moment where he met
- 24:26Eduardo Saverin, that could be entertaining, right?
- 24:29So, I think sometimes I get in my mind, I sometimes I think as
- 24:32a society, we over index on the one-in-a-million story, because
- 24:36we feel like all, we see all these movies.
- 24:38So if I don't go go out to their.
- 24:40So do this or attend this, even if it doesn't feel right, I
- 24:43might miss out on my one-in-a-million moment.
- 24:46Yeah, I read that statement, but I also think it's swings both
- 24:48ways. In terms of like that pressure
- 24:50isn't always a negative thing, right?
- 24:53It's a negative thing. When it gets to the point where
- 24:55you're like, oh my gosh, I have to spread myself so thin because
- 24:59otherwise, I'm not living College to the fullest, right?
- 25:01When you're not sleeping, you're not eating, you're living off
- 25:03soil ends and your instead just, you know, spending Your time
- 25:09going from older sleeping and eating, I had other stuff.
- 25:12Yeah, gummy bears and Zoila and I wouldn't call it gummy bears.
- 25:16Orange juice was the perfect. Pre-exam Stan.
- 25:20I think, you know, like that's obviously a problem, but if
- 25:22you're on the other extreme to, then you don't get opportunities
- 25:26to meet people to hear other perspectives because if you're
- 25:29like, man, they'll be another one.
- 25:30It doesn't matter. I don't need to go to anything,
- 25:32right? You don't grow, you, don't meet
- 25:34people, you don't move. So like it's sort of like being
- 25:37stressed, right? I think something that you said
- 25:39earlier, were like too much of anything is bad, but like having
- 25:43it as a motivator, where it's like, okay, well, maybe I should
- 25:47go because maybe I'll meet, someone doesn't have to be the
- 25:49love of my life, but maybe I'll meet someone interesting and
- 25:51that makes it, you know, worthwhile having those stories
- 25:55in your head that motivate you to try things.
- 25:59Yeah, you have the opportunity to be let down, but at least
- 26:01you, like, when coming from someone who often didn't go,
- 26:06because A lot of those things for me, I already felt like
- 26:09we're set in stone, right? I wasn't looking to find the
- 26:13love of my life because I already had I wasn't trying to
- 26:17meet my business partner. My Venture capitalists funder
- 26:22because I had no idea what I want to do with my life and so I
- 26:24was like I'm just going to study in my room and that was fine.
- 26:28That was the goal. There was no like further
- 26:29picture and so I didn't go and have as many I think of those
- 26:34sort of fun memories that maybe you would get a college and it's
- 26:36not something I regret like, It is what it is but I think I
- 26:40think there's a happy medium. So my point is like I know I
- 26:43know where you're coming from and I understand that for you in
- 26:47some ways it went to an extreme that you're not pleased with but
- 26:49I think there are a lot of gems that came out of your four years
- 26:53that you wouldn't have had if you had been maybe as
- 26:58disciplined with yourself and be like, no, I'm gonna go to bed at
- 27:019:00 and eat real food and take care of all the things rather
- 27:06than having that fun night out. Out, you know, and Westwood or
- 27:09whatever it was. Yeah, I was going to say
- 27:13something similar, I think you pushed us I think in some
- 27:17pursuit of cool to to go out and do some of these things that I
- 27:19look back on very fondly. I mean, you like to say that you
- 27:22we wouldn't have any pictures if it weren't for you, right?
- 27:23And that's very true. And I think there's a lot of
- 27:26events that we went to. I'm thinking of the last time we
- 27:29went bar-hopping before covid, right, that you really
- 27:33instigated and pushed for. And so whether that came from
- 27:35perhaps a place where you can think back and look at, maybe I
- 27:37can take Less seriously. It also, I think ultimately did
- 27:40lead to some positive results and so it's kind of that given
- 27:43taken too much of anything or too little of anything can be
- 27:48problematic in some way. It's not even like, I need to
- 27:51accomplish these goals, but I need to try.
- 27:54It's almost like it's not even like I need to have those want
- 27:56to marry moments but I me still need to show up and for me
- 27:59effort in the sense of even like time committed to something.
- 28:05Is soothing if I can tell myself, I commit a time to it.
- 28:09I went for an hour because I even found this way building
- 28:13events where I would go and I would talk to someone.
- 28:16I talked to flee, people I'd go for an hour, I felt really
- 28:19fulfilled because I went for now, but then I started
- 28:21realizing oh I'm not really open or trying to make these deeper
- 28:25connections I'm just trying to go for an hour, talk to free
- 28:27people and feel good about it, you know.
- 28:29So I think it's that contradiction where part of it
- 28:33is. I want to do everything, see
- 28:36everything I want to feel like I tried.
- 28:40I think I'm searching to feel like I tried in the be okay with
- 28:43it because if I don't try, then I'm way down myself.
- 28:46Why did I go away and go? But even if I do try and like, I
- 28:49just have the check marks. I feel good.
- 28:52I have an analogy, that's a real example, but it's much.
- 28:56It's much lighter too much sillier, but it reminds me of
- 28:59sort of a moral. I think you're overlooking all
- 29:02of these so you all didn't know me.
- 29:04My Swing year of college. Because, I mean, you're older.
- 29:07You listed before we met you, I know it's wild.
- 29:11I'm not just a secondary character in your life, but that
- 29:15when, when I packed for freshman year, my wardrobe looked like I
- 29:23was going to rush a sorority. The viewers don't understand how
- 29:27absurd that is. But the people on this, this
- 29:30call do because I wore PJ's all four years outside to class.
- 29:34It didn't matter. I did not will wear real clothes
- 29:38and I went to college as one of these people sort of like what
- 29:41Kevin was talking about of, like you have this imaginary idea of
- 29:46what colleges and I was like, I wasn't that person high school
- 29:49either. I was just like, I'm starting
- 29:51over and I'm going to be cutesy and girly and care about this
- 29:55stuff and go be social, and I think it lasted a grand total of
- 30:00a week before it fell off. and, I did have moments where I was
- 30:06like, I'm not being social enough, I'm not gonna make
- 30:09friends. I consider joining the community
- 30:12service, frat on campus to meet people.
- 30:15And I did none of those things. Ultimately, I went back to no
- 30:20makeup hair in a bun glasses, pajamas everywhere.
- 30:26And I worked through the moments of maybe not being super pleased
- 30:31that I didn't reinvent myself. I wasn't, you know, this cutesy
- 30:36girly whatever but more importantly, I think when I look
- 30:39back in retrospect it's more a taught me more about like, Who I
- 30:43am because it forced me to prioritize like do I as a person
- 30:48is it more important to me? Does it bring me more joy?
- 30:50Does it make me feel more fulfilled to get up in the
- 30:53morning? Look in the mirror and be like I
- 30:55feel pretty or does it bring me more joy to spend that time
- 31:00talking to someone? I love and maybe not getting
- 31:04dressed as early. Or does he bring me more joy to
- 31:06go for a run around campus, come back quickly.
- 31:08Put my hair in a bun after showering and go to class
- 31:11knowing that I don't. Look cute.
- 31:14I don't feel like I'm gonna grab anyone's attention.
- 31:16I'm like, am I okay with that? And in retrospect, I realize?
- 31:19Yeah, yeah and so I think there's probably opportunities
- 31:23there for you to even think about like what it means on a
- 31:26higher level, where you're implicitly, making choices of
- 31:29like, I feel icky if I don't do this versus like I didn't do
- 31:34that and I'm kind of okay with it because it's like those
- 31:36situations for should prioritize because you can't do everything.
- 31:38So what is most important to you?
- 31:40What do you value? And if it makes you feel icky,
- 31:43That might be a signal that, what you are prioritizing isn't
- 31:47aligned with like your whore. And then again, it's your story.
- 31:51So you can change it. Yeah.
- 31:53And I think that's one of the values of this show for me is
- 31:56that when you become hyper aware of stories, like we have through
- 32:01what we read, who talked to favorite people, dr.
- 32:05Dre, Andre lotterer, Mandy start to Cassie homes.
- 32:08Like these amazing psychologist about on the show where we talk
- 32:10about storytelling and how it's like, I'm ready to happiness and
- 32:13time and energy and how we perceive ourselves and we learn
- 32:16how much of this is in our control.
- 32:19It's been amazing. And I think that's been the
- 32:21biggest thing for me. Because, and we're talking about
- 32:23this and people are like, I think, if you, I'm concerned,
- 32:26people listen to show like, say this is the first episode.
- 32:28They like, oh, they're saying the word storytelling, a lot or
- 32:30therefore seen stories into this?
- 32:33Or you're like, is that a, what's a story, right?
- 32:37I don't think we are. I think we've just become hyper
- 32:40aware of stories and that has helped us say, okay, we have
- 32:45control over this. This is just a story, there is
- 32:47no objective, reality of cool. There's no Active reality of how
- 32:51you're supposed to do college. These are all individual
- 32:54stories. We've learned from society, our
- 32:56parents ourselves, our peers, the situation we were in, and
- 33:00that it allows me to be like, okay, I have control over that
- 33:04and it's not like, I don't want any think, it's a switch.
- 33:06I'm like, oh, now that we've had this conversation.
- 33:08I see cool as story syllabus, which I'm fine.
- 33:10I'm never going to think of it. Again, that's not true.
- 33:13It's gonna bother me tomorrow. It's gonna bother me tonight.
- 33:15Sing about me, that's one, but I'm playing able to approach it
- 33:18a bit more objectively as a nap. Abstract story helps.
- 33:22It allows me to step in force myself to confront that and over
- 33:26time, I can move on to my next in Sia T, right?
- 33:32And I think that's one of my favorite parts of the show.
- 33:34Not just the psychologist, we talked to at the comedian's, you
- 33:37talk to every single guest. In some way has taught us about
- 33:41that at Otis about objective, reality of Storytelling, and how
- 33:45we have a lot of control over that what we perceive.
- 33:47And what we say, then we fought And one thing I'm curious about
- 33:53having everyone here, this is your first time on a podcast.
- 33:57I'm going to assume yes. Yeah.
- 33:59How different does it feel? And this is more for you and
- 34:02self and then we can answer it after.
- 34:04How different does it feel than just a normal conversation?
- 34:06Do you feel right now that you have to seem smarter that your
- 34:10sentences have to see more coherent?
- 34:13Do you still feel like maybe you're trying to put on some
- 34:15sort of image right now? I think there's definitely some
- 34:20effect of performative - anytime there is a camera involved.
- 34:23I don't necessarily think that it's like a bad thing or that
- 34:27you are not necessarily giving your authentic self, but to some
- 34:30extent, I know where the camera is and I know how it's looking
- 34:32at me. I know kind of how I sound on
- 34:35video or a non audio, right? And even to some extent, just in
- 34:40terms of not being able to get fully into a conversation
- 34:42because maybe you hear feedback from a mic or you see yourself
- 34:46on a screen somewhere, right? But I think for the most part,
- 34:50it still, It was like a pretty normal conversation, Sofia.
- 34:55Um, I'm very introverted by Nature, so it's definitely very
- 35:00different for me because when I know I'm going to be doing
- 35:06something, we're in this case, it's like I have made a
- 35:09commitment to do this for show. I want to put my best foot
- 35:11forward for you guys because you're my friends and I don't
- 35:14want to be, you know, the worst most dull person ever on the
- 35:19show. Because I want you guys succeed.
- 35:22I feel compelled to go, okay? Going to charismatic mode tribe.
- 35:27Be a little bit more energetic so it's very tiring for me.
- 35:30Um, I do it in real life too and certain conversations when I
- 35:33feel like oh I have to come off as more Charming's like turn it
- 35:37on and so it's not just something for this podcast but
- 35:40it's not my natural state. So I think from that standpoint
- 35:43it definitely is different and a bit more tiring than I would say
- 35:49my Baseline. I'm of where maybe you know,
- 35:51where is having a weekly chat? Like, I think this weekly chat
- 35:55or was like Sofia, say something.
- 35:57Like, don't just stare say something, right?
- 36:00So it's a different Dynamic where I'm trying to, at least be
- 36:05a little bit more energetic because of, you know, the nature
- 36:08of what we're doing. Yeah, it's interesting for sure.
- 36:13I think with a lot of guests, in the early days we were trying to
- 36:16sustain and release my right. We were, we were in, we've
- 36:19talked about this to work. This is running struggles.
- 36:21We have with the personal episodes, where were really
- 36:25concerned the guy. One of the things I value most
- 36:28is any listener giving us this time?
- 36:30It is such a gift for a listen and say, you know what, there's
- 36:33thousands of podcasts out there by amazing experts like I love
- 36:38podcasts yawns, I listen to podcasts, can't Easily.
- 36:40So I know how many amazing podcast there with amazing
- 36:43people. So, and the fact that anyone
- 36:45gives us a minute of their time, I value so much.
- 36:48So, with these personal episodes, that Kevin is kind of
- 36:50forced me to do. I am terrified of them because
- 36:53I'm like, how am I going to be energized?
- 36:55How am I going to tie everything together?
- 36:57How am I going to get people to listen to this one and then keep
- 37:00listening to our show because I'm almost like if you're
- 37:02listening this, that's great. But definitely listen to one of
- 37:04the ones with the experts, right?
- 37:05Because those are the cool ones. Those are the people.
- 37:07You need to hear there was one episode.
- 37:09We did where Recorded. It was a personal episode is
- 37:12Kevin me when it was uploaded. I wrote The Bayou for it and
- 37:16Kevin turns me after I wrote the bio and says you know this this
- 37:19sounds like you don't want anyone to listen to it, right?
- 37:22The way I wrote The Bayou is like warning different kind of
- 37:25episode warning. There's this not the main part
- 37:28of the show. This is weird.
- 37:30I almost wrote you're not going to learn anything and Kevin tetz
- 37:33me. After I wrote The Bayou for this
- 37:34episode and he said the sounds like you don't want a single
- 37:37person to listen to it as I'm terrified.
- 37:40You know, and I think over time, I think one thing that's really
- 37:44helps with the show before I like Kevin answer is that we
- 37:47approach this show as we are not at split storytellers, right?
- 37:52We have never come to the show. I saying, hey, I'm here to t.i.
- 37:56Go of am here to teach you something about storytelling?
- 37:58No, we came to the show in the beginning because in the idea
- 38:02from it came from the fact that we were doing my interviews and
- 38:05we felt like we suck that storytelling.
- 38:07So we could approach this, we can approach every If you guys
- 38:10like would like the audience, which is the ones on the mic, we
- 38:14are here to ask the expert. The questions we are here to
- 38:16learn from you and that's why every season Kevin I are we at
- 38:20the storytellers? No, we're not.
- 38:21We're basically the audience and we're just asking questions for
- 38:24the audience and that allows us to feel safer and puts more of
- 38:27the pressure on the expert to be the advert.
- 38:29So I find it hard to be like, why would anyone listen to this?
- 38:33But I understand the reason we have these type of things is
- 38:36once they get to know us better and to so we can set tie in
- 38:39together and shows. Some of the storytelling
- 38:40lessons, we learned from the beginning, then kind of like
- 38:45sell the show, like, listen to the show, because we've gotten
- 38:48better, we've got an objectively better storytelling in
- 38:51understanding stories and talking ourselves, just by the
- 38:54virtue of doing this show. And it's interesting, you asked
- 38:57this question because, you know, I just just came back from a
- 39:03vacation with my parents and One day and you know, I was driving
- 39:09my dad suddenly went, you know, you sound very different when
- 39:14you actually talk versus when you're on your pockets.
- 39:18Like when I hear you talking to here ordered food and stuff, you
- 39:22don't sound nervous at all. You are sentences flow very
- 39:25freely. You're not worried about
- 39:26anything and yeah, I'm just like, yeah.
- 39:31Right? Because when I'm talking, when I
- 39:34just talking, I'm not being recorded, I don't have to worry
- 39:37about how I sound how the conversation come and go.
- 39:41I when I'm recording, I want myself to sound like I'm putting
- 39:48meaningful stuff out there because and I think we tested
- 39:54this out too. Just as we were starting off on
- 39:58the podcast recording should be different from actual Chit Chats
- 40:04because Hence of silence or random talking in real life.
- 40:11It's not going to sound as good when someone else is listening,
- 40:14like it should be more meaningful.
- 40:16And that's something I struggle with to the point where I do get
- 40:20physically stiff, I think when I'm recording stuff, well, that
- 40:23makes you feel better. Calves.
- 40:24There was a point and I understand it was around the
- 40:28time that you've got a better. Mike, that's not what it is.
- 40:33You can I want to say it's season 2 but I can't remember
- 40:38but like it's a very audible shift where it's like you come
- 40:43into your own and you sound so much more confident, so much
- 40:48more professional. And it's just like, I remember
- 40:51when I was listening to, I was playing out loud.
- 40:53My fiancée walking through was like that.
- 40:55Kevin was like, yeah, he sounds really good.
- 40:57I think Ricky sounds really legit.
- 41:00So you're And pretty good on that front.
- 41:04I would say like your voice sounds very robust.
- 41:07You sound very confident you're very commanding.
- 41:09Like it comes across very well even though it might be a bit
- 41:12performative and you might still feel like you're faking it till
- 41:14you make it from the audience perspective.
- 41:19And what that lets do suspenders.
- 41:24You have to suspend the question.
- 41:26I don't but I know you have the deck of cards somewhere in this
- 41:29apartment. You can you just done those and
- 41:33syllable? Yeah.
- 41:35Have to find the quiet. Give me 30 seconds.
- 41:39So yeah, it was going to look for it and as he's doing that
- 41:43suspenders is a quick segment. What I think.
- 42:08And Sofia. Listen to what about the cast?
- 42:23Its likes you I mean, I have a cob background so I tend to
- 42:30gravitate more towards the episodes where it's, it's sort
- 42:34of leaning towards how storytelling plays into like
- 42:39your motivations and how that impacts the way you view
- 42:45yourself, how you treat yourself.
- 42:46So I think there's a reason why I might have been the most
- 42:48recent or maybe like two or three ago where there's a lot of
- 42:52conversation where Kevin sort of had an aha moment about like
- 42:55yeah, I have days. We're like I literally do
- 42:58nothing and that was hard for me at first because that felt
- 43:01wrong. And having someone else validate
- 43:04how that's not actually necessarily wrong and like it's
- 43:09perfectly acceptable to have that even though it might not be
- 43:13the narrative, that's Driven forward in a society like what?
- 43:19We have here in the states. So I think things like that, I'm
- 43:22kind of drawn to. I also end up being really drawn
- 43:25to sort of like the human interest side of things.
- 43:27So sometimes it's not even like About the storytelling learning
- 43:32per se that you're trying to get across.
- 43:33But like the storytelling of the individual guests that you have
- 43:36and I find it compelling that comes out.
- 43:40Sometimes do their what's their story, the beginning or through
- 43:42the suspenders. We're just something.
- 43:43Odd comes up like recently chickens or there is something
- 43:47about like the, the lineup is that I've been trying to figure
- 43:50out what it is, but I feel like that's the episode that I
- 43:52remember the best and I still haven't sort of been able to
- 43:55work through, why? But there's something about that
- 43:57episode that like I remember it. The most clearly and it's not
- 44:01even necessarily like the learnings out of it talking
- 44:04about like how to tell stories from a marketing standpoint,
- 44:06what that does for a product like wine.
- 44:09It's something about just like the guests themselves and the
- 44:12way they're able to convey the message, which is itself, a
- 44:16story. So it's the meta story if you
- 44:18want to convict like say it that way, that I find kind of
- 44:22compelling it. A lot of the episodes
- 44:24suspenders. I think has been my favorite
- 44:26part of every episode. It really does feel like tuchman
- 44:28authenticity earlier. Kind of performative deaths and
- 44:31being on camera. That's the point where you can
- 44:35kind of tell a little bit behind the mask of any given guests
- 44:39even in just the way they choose to respond to it, right?
- 44:41There's some people who instantly know the answer the
- 44:43question because they like have thought about something like
- 44:45this before or just engages them so much.
- 44:48And there's other people who are like oh suspenders that's
- 44:50interesting, right? And kind of take a step back and
- 44:52you can see them or hear them processing it and I think for me
- 44:56that gives you a nice little twist at the end where you go
- 44:59from. Here's this person who's an
- 45:01expert in these. And so, so it's a way is and
- 45:02here's all the things they talked about and then here's
- 45:04like a little window into their Humanity for just a moment.
- 45:09And that makes me end up. Always looking forward to
- 45:11suspenders Park. Kevin says, it's time for
- 45:12suspenders and I'm like, heck, yeah, let's do this thing.
- 45:15I think what's really interesting about what Benji's
- 45:17saying is that like to me what that plays into is like I could
- 45:22have the best story, but if you can't connect me as a person,
- 45:25doesn't matter, right? So it's like, almost like having
- 45:28that moment of being I'm like, I'm going to go back to the
- 45:32chicken thing from like two episodes ago because it's just
- 45:35really in my head right now, but the guest on the show said, you
- 45:38know, they and possibly purchased a lot of chickens live
- 45:43chickens and then the chickens did not make it and then they
- 45:45were going to purchase more chickens.
- 45:47And that's something that really, you know, humanized this
- 45:50person like, oh, it's quirky, it's silly, but like it's a cute
- 45:54like an accurate depiction of them and it sort of for, from a
- 45:57cognitive standpoint. It's like, when you file this
- 45:59information your brain, it gets five.
- 46:01Child now with in my mind chickens, but more importantly
- 46:04you've connected to this person. So you're going to it makes it
- 46:07more memorable, right? Because otherwise, it's just
- 46:10another story as opposed to connect it to a person that has
- 46:13grounded and has some value exactly.
- 46:15I mean dr. So how youth have Beth who
- 46:17talked about the chickens and she's a cognitive neuroscientist
- 46:20like one of the smartest people, one of my favorite people to
- 46:22talk to and in this world where we get constantly, bombarded
- 46:26with productivity porn or like, these are the things you have to
- 46:30do. You have to wake up, dude?
- 46:31Smelt. Eight clean yada yada or like
- 46:34all these different clips and podcast with like this is the
- 46:36secrets like this is life like all these different ways to
- 46:39educate yourself. What makes it more memorable,
- 46:43what makes it more human is Story Time, right?
- 46:47That's the whole point by adding that bit of Storytelling to our
- 46:49questions to our suspenders, you're remembering her lessons
- 46:53more because they all choose the chicken lady, right?
- 46:55By adding that Story Time by adding the linen and plastic to
- 47:00linen suit in plastic Ty you are elevating, the lesson, you are
- 47:04connecting with it on a human level because that's what it is.
- 47:07That's what soybean is. It's the oldest way we connect.
- 47:10It's the way movies and television shows, become little
- 47:14pills of pleasure where you can experience something in a social
- 47:18way. Where you can feel Joy sadness,
- 47:21we can catch the sun without actually having to go through
- 47:23it, right? Storytelling is this amazing
- 47:26skill that we use internally and externally that allows us us to
- 47:32make these connections to have important moments to have these
- 47:35memo things. And that's why we do this show.
- 47:38So Kevin's looking at me right time and I'm so I'm gonna, I'm
- 47:43gonna ask to suspend the question.
- 47:51So this is where I'm in question.
- 47:53I swear, first thing, I found. What song do you want to be the
- 47:55first dance at your wedding? That's what Sophia Benji.
- 47:59Yours is going to be what's on would make the best fee music
- 48:01for you. I think the question of what the
- 48:05music would go best with me, is something I thought about more
- 48:09than once and I've settled on something that I really like,
- 48:12just because it's kind of an upbeat sort of let's go take.
- 48:15The seize the day kind of thing. It's hold on, I'm Comin by Sam &
- 48:18Dave. It's just very, very positive.
- 48:22Kind of like, you know, if anything is ever wrong, don't
- 48:24worry. I'm coming.
- 48:25I'm coming to help you out there and it's got like a nice kind of
- 48:30trumpet backing to it. It's just, it's just a fun piece
- 48:32of music. This one's not a hypothetical.
- 48:35Our first-dance Song is First Day of My Life by bright eyes
- 48:40that has been like are quote, unquote, sappy like song or like
- 48:44the anthem of our relationship, we felt like Like, mainly?
- 48:46Because of this one verse, that's the song.
- 48:50I'm not gonna sing on this podcast.
- 48:51I'm not gonna do it, but the song goes like, Shoot.
- 48:57I have to sing it to think cocktail.
- 48:59I don't want to sing on this podcast.
- 49:02It's like this is the first day of my life.
- 49:05I swear, I was blind before I met you and then I just want
- 49:10goes on, it talks about. Remember the time I drove all
- 49:14night just to meet you in the morning.
- 49:18And for those of you that don't know, my fiancée and I were long
- 49:22distance for a number of years, not very far but in different
- 49:24cities enough where he He would drive in the middle of the night
- 49:28to meet me in the morning on weekends.
- 49:30So we can have the maximum amount of time with me before he
- 49:33had to drive back home. And there were times where it
- 49:36would be like he drove in middle of night to be there for half a
- 49:40day and then we drive back home so that it was that line.
- 49:43Where, when we first heard the song we were like, that's our
- 49:47relationship right there. And so that's going to be our
- 49:49first dance song. And it's a bit more upbeat than
- 49:53most like traditional slow dance songs, which I think also, Very
- 49:56much fits our untraditional personalities.
- 49:59So yeah, we've been we've known that one for a long before we
- 50:04got engaged like that, that was nothing personal.
- 50:06It's so cute, there's no such thing as too traditional
- 50:08personality but I love that there is such thing as a
- 50:13traditional wedding. I'm not going to turn your
- 50:14podcast into a wedding at those. So we'll talk about that later
- 50:18but now I love that. That's so sweet.
- 50:20So cute and I was kind, I'm so excited but you're waiting for
- 50:25songs. I think I work in entertainment
- 50:27now and something I get asked a lot is, what's your favorite TV
- 50:31show? Right?
- 50:32Because I watch everything. I think that's an impossible.
- 50:35Fucking question. I hate that question.
- 50:37I can name you 10 of my favorite TV shows.
- 50:39I continue my favorite TV show right now, so I think this is a
- 50:42hard question, that's why I asked it.
- 50:45So I'm going to tell you this on right now.
- 50:47Just in this moment, I'm thinking about who I'd be from
- 50:51the Shrek, The Musical. It's a great song I mean I love
- 50:56musicals but it's a great song. It's kind of like they asked you
- 51:00a cootie be if he could be anything because he's in he's an
- 51:03ogre and he's been limited his whole life and he told one way
- 51:06and it's like it's I guess I'm being a hero like storm and I
- 51:13and clashing looking semi dashing, something beneath my
- 51:17window or something like that. It's like something is goes in
- 51:22about how he'd be a hero and then, at the end of the movie,
- 51:25he becomes a hero right without having to change who he is.
- 51:28And I fucking love that song. It's like Who You'd Be by his
- 51:32ideas, are you here, all alone and it's not the tan, I dance to
- 51:36for my wedding. That would be a slow song.
- 51:38Slow version of. I think this is such a good
- 51:41idea. I'm not going to get to do it
- 51:42but be a slow version acoustic version of death of a bachelor
- 51:46by Panic at the Disco. I think that would be an amazing
- 51:48idea. Think about it, definitely bad.
- 51:50You're so swollen version for your first dance.
- 51:52Amazing idea. People are going to steal it
- 51:54from this podcast, I know it. But anyways.
- 51:56Yeah, I'm gonna have to use this bike because it's cleansing
- 52:01cable and grow up took it off. So by accident I'd have to
- 52:08restart my recording anyways, was complicated.
- 52:11Anyways, it's on my themes on English rent in New York by
- 52:16Sting. Like obviously there's the be
- 52:21yourself, no matter what they say, but is too straightforward
- 52:25too much for my taste, I just like how it starts off.
- 52:28It's a proud Declaration of who you are, even though you're on a
- 52:37Land. I'm an alien.
- 52:40I'm a legal alien. I'm an Englishman in New York.
- 52:43I'm a Chinese fan and all way, but that's on suits my sentiment
- 52:48very much and gorgeous creamy to stall for more time.
- 52:54I saw the thing it is fridge. Earlier, I did not realize that
- 53:00he got this, you have another kind of Did you get a cake that
- 53:06has 50 on it? Happy birthday.
