- 0:31Speaker 2: to work with all the cool brands that help support
- 0:33Speaker 2: us and give us all kinds of fun stuff to
- 0:35Speaker 2: try out.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And he's in the field.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Work with all the cool people.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Now you're your neighbors with Cal and Randall.
- 0:45Speaker 1: What's what's it like being office neighbors with those fellows.
- 0:49Speaker 4: It's actually kind of nice.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It was real quiet up there on the third floor,
- 0:52Speaker 2: but now I get to b s with Randall every
- 0:54Speaker 2: day and it's nice.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Cal.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I don't see as much, but it's good.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The rand will give us a real report. Now, what's
- 1:02Speaker 1: it like to be neighbors with Matt?
- 1:04Speaker 5: Well, it is nice to have someone with a dependable
- 1:08Speaker 5: attendance record. I will say I'm still adjusting. I'm just adjusting.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Also neighbors and Makinzie.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just well, I don't.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Because it's right next to the bathroom. That's the thing.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I try not to make eye contact on my way.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 1:29Speaker 1: meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 1:33Speaker 1: There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
- 1:36Speaker 1: dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing and
- 1:40Speaker 1: for the start of the week. This week we're looking
- 1:41Speaker 1: at near perfect games. In one hundred and twenty three episodes,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we've had twenty eight times where someone has gotten nine
- 1:49Speaker 1: out of ten questions correct, which means that happens twenty
- 1:53Speaker 1: three percent of the time. A few times it's happened
- 1:55Speaker 1: in the same show, like when Brody and Randall tied
- 1:58Speaker 1: with nine points in episode five or seventy three, or
- 2:01Speaker 1: when Randall and cow tied with nine points in episode
- 2:04Speaker 1: five twenty four. Brody is responsible for eleven of those
- 2:08Speaker 1: near perfect games, followed by Randall with four and Steve
- 2:12Speaker 1: and Cal with two. Randal, would you rather win with
- 2:15Speaker 1: eight points or nine points? Is the nine?
- 2:17Speaker 6: Just like?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Really?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Bittersweeter, do you just want the dominance? Just the w
- 2:20Speaker 1: just the w, Yanni, It's happened to you once. Do
- 2:23Speaker 1: you remember the question you slipped up on where you
- 2:25Speaker 1: didn't get the perfect game? This isn't a rhetorical question.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Oh you don't.
- 2:31Speaker 7: Was it that recent one maybe where I messed up
- 2:34Speaker 7: on lead sugar maple?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Oh? You're right. It was about yeah the iron?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Was it iron in?
- 2:43Speaker 5: Ye?
- 2:44Speaker 1: That costs Yanni his perfect game? Didn't know his periodic table?
- 2:47Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:48Speaker 8: What is.
- 2:50Speaker 4: For iron? H?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Randall? That question was not for you? Oh sorry, Yanni
- 2:58Speaker 1: said he would not have gotten it though. Now here's
- 3:01Speaker 1: our Infrequently Asked Question segment. If you have a trivia
- 3:05Speaker 1: related question for our crew, send it to Trivia at
- 3:07Speaker 1: the mediater dot com with the subject line I FAQ.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Jen Ermstin wants to know who is John Schlessinger and
- 3:15Speaker 1: why do you always choose his questions? I'm jealous, Well,
- 3:18Speaker 1: John Schlessinger and Steve Corson, they are the goats of
- 3:22Speaker 1: sending in questions for Mediater Trivia. I'm actually a little
- 3:25Speaker 1: concerned about like their home life, because they send me
- 3:28Speaker 1: so many emails. But I'm very appreciative of their efforts.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I bet combined they've sent in like between one hundred
- 3:35Speaker 1: and two hundred questions. So a big shout out to
- 3:37Speaker 1: John and Steve. And to answer your question, Jen, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: choose their questions because they send in so many and
- 3:44Speaker 1: sometimes they're perfect for the show. That's John and Steve
- 3:48Speaker 1: send me a ton of questions. We pay them really
- 3:51Speaker 1: appreciate that. So Jen's takeaway is just send in more,
- 3:54Speaker 1: send in more questions, Jen, Eventually something will stick and
- 3:57Speaker 1: it's gonna make it on this show. That's right now.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We don't have any housekeeping to get to this week,
- 4:02Speaker 1: but I want to tell you about the project that
- 4:05Speaker 1: I teased at the end of the last episode when
- 4:08Speaker 1: I told you we have an exciting announcement. Starting next
- 4:11Speaker 1: week on our website, we will be releasing meat Eater
- 4:15Speaker 1: crossword puzzles. Yeah, there you go, clap it up, yondy,
- 4:19Speaker 1: thank you very much.
- 4:20Speaker 6: Huh.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It's every Wednesday.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Starting on August fourteenth, we will have a new crossword
- 4:26Speaker 1: puzzle on the medeater dot com. The topics are similar
- 4:29Speaker 1: to what you get in Meat Eater Trivia, with the
- 4:32Speaker 1: first three themes being outdoors, national parks, and hunting. Every
- 4:36Speaker 1: crossword puzzle has twenty clues and the site will track
- 4:40Speaker 1: your time and score. You don't need to create an
- 4:43Speaker 1: account or log into play, but by logging in you'll
- 4:46Speaker 1: have the ability to save your work so that you
- 4:48Speaker 1: can finish the puzzle later or on a different device. Now,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I want to give you a preview of what the
- 4:54Speaker 1: clues are like. I'm going to read you one of
- 4:56Speaker 1: the entries and maybe the room can solve it for
- 4:59Speaker 1: you and give you a freebie for that first puzzle.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Here it is. The crossword theme is outdoors. This is
- 5:06Speaker 1: number nine going down. It has eleven letters. Here's your clue,
- 5:11Speaker 1: flocks poppies, black eyed Susan's Tom Petty wildflowers. Wildflowers is
- 5:19Speaker 1: exactly right. Eleven letters. That is an example of the
- 5:23Speaker 1: kind of clues that you'll get in the media to
- 5:26Speaker 1: crossword game.
- 5:27Speaker 7: Now, that's easier than you. Sent out a little little
- 5:31Speaker 7: sample both tests a month ago and I looked at
- 5:34Speaker 7: it for five minutes, couldn't figure out a single one.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Just yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Lately, we've had a Yanni guest hosting episode. Randall is
- 5:46Speaker 1: going to be guest hosting next week, Shelby guest hosting episode.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That was so we can focus on this project for
- 5:51Speaker 1: a little bit. You're right, it was a little hard
- 5:53Speaker 1: to begin with the Yanni, and we're going to make
- 5:56Speaker 1: it a little easier, hopefully a little more fun. The
- 5:59Speaker 1: first one comes out next week, and as Randall just said,
- 6:02Speaker 1: that first answer is wildflowers. Flocks, poppies, and black eyed
- 6:06Speaker 1: Susans are all wildflowers. And Tom Petty released a triple
- 6:10Speaker 1: platinum album in nineteen ninety four called Wildflowers that had
- 6:14Speaker 1: an opening track of the same name. Again. Mediater Crosswords
- 6:18Speaker 1: will be available every Wednesday starting next week, and they
- 6:21Speaker 1: are free to play. You can get the first one
- 6:24Speaker 1: at the medeater dot com backslash games. If you like
- 6:28Speaker 1: this podcast, then you'll love this crossword.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Take that in New York Times.
- 6:32Speaker 1: That's right, we're coming for them.
- 6:34Speaker 6: I'm excited.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I used bartender to play, so it opened at eight am.
- 6:38Speaker 4: And the first thing you do is get the crowd
- 6:40Speaker 4: that does the crosswords, and it's a bunch of old
- 6:42Speaker 4: retired dudes.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Well crosswords. Did they play?
- 6:44Speaker 4: Uh New York Times, the you know, Missoulium. It was
- 6:47Speaker 4: in Missoula, the Gazette, all the Montana papers. But yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 4: those good crowd. I mean, hopefully we'll have a little
- 6:55Speaker 4: more of a stand up crowd here and we file around.
- 6:58Speaker 1: But those were honest the days of crosswords, it wasn't
- 7:01Speaker 1: so easy to google something if you had to cheat them.
- 7:04Speaker 4: No, it was a dictionary.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Did you have one of those available?
- 7:09Speaker 4: And a dictionary at the bar.
- 7:11Speaker 1: The media dot Com next week for that first medieater crosswords.
- 7:15Speaker 9: Is there a check function on it? Like as you're going,
- 7:18Speaker 9: it'll like on New York Times, how there's that check function?
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's right. We will when you log in to play
- 7:25Speaker 1: the game, or you don't have to log in, like
- 7:26Speaker 1: I said, but when you're on the website, we'll explain
- 7:28Speaker 1: a little bit. You can reveal a word if you're
- 7:31Speaker 1: absolutely stumped, you can reveal you can reveal a letter
- 7:35Speaker 1: if you need some help. That way you can check
- 7:37Speaker 1: your answers. Now all these things, there's an algorithm that
- 7:40Speaker 1: gives you a score at the end based on how
- 7:43Speaker 1: quick you did it, how accurate you wear and if
- 7:45Speaker 1: you have to use any of those cheats that will
- 7:47Speaker 1: take away from your points. That'll be explained on the
- 7:51Speaker 1: web page.
- 7:52Speaker 4: So we're gonna do like a companion deal too, like
- 7:54Speaker 4: to do for the New York Times, like the hints
- 7:57Speaker 4: article or whatever it is.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Like this week's maybe on this here podcast you can
- 8:04Speaker 1: get some of these. I see what you said, like
- 8:09Speaker 1: when Randalls saw wild flowers, but the flocks poppies, black
- 8:13Speaker 1: eyed Susans and Tom Petty. Do you think you'd have
- 8:15Speaker 1: gotten that one, Yanni?
- 8:16Speaker 6: Yes?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Right, Okay? What what? Which part of it gave it away?
- 8:19Speaker 1: The whole thing? Was there one specific part Tom Petty?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Tom Petty, you knew it was wild flowers.
- 8:24Speaker 4: You could have left out Tom Petty.
- 8:26Speaker 1: You still would have gotten it off the words. Well,
- 8:28Speaker 1: that was a you know, there was a little more help, Tom.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Maybe makes it fun.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You're not, that's right, a little more fun. And maybe
- 8:35Speaker 1: if you're not so well versed in the outdoors you
- 8:37Speaker 1: have a chance then like a biology test.
- 8:39Speaker 7: Otherwise, do you think the average age of a crossword
- 8:43Speaker 7: player is?
- 8:46Speaker 1: I can google that right now. My guess is it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: in the early fifties.
- 8:52Speaker 9: Right, I'd say, with the advent of the New York
- 8:55Speaker 9: Times Mini Crossword, it's much much.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I think you're right now it's apt And then I
- 9:00Speaker 1: think you're right Mackenzie. It's probably much younger than it
- 9:03Speaker 1: was decade ago.
- 9:05Speaker 4: What are you gen zee? The commandment?
- 9:14Speaker 1: That stuff now the Shelby indexpert today is a three
- 9:18Speaker 1: and a half, so our winner should get seven correct answers.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And with that we're onto the game of trivia. Play
- 9:24Speaker 1: the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what I
- 9:29Speaker 1: stand to win everything. Just tend to win everything, Gamon Suckers.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is cooking, and this first great
- 9:46Speaker 1: question is via Stephen Riskowski, and as always, this will
- 9:51Speaker 1: be multiple choice. The U s d A recommends you
- 9:55Speaker 1: cook a turkey to this temperature, which is when salmonila dies.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Is it one hundred and thirty five degrees fahrenheit, one
- 10:05Speaker 1: hundred and fifty degrees, one hundred and sixty five degrees
- 10:09Speaker 1: or one hundred eighty degrees in four hour listeners around
- 10:13Speaker 1: the world who don't know fahrenheit, that's fifty seven degrees celsius,
- 10:18Speaker 1: sixty six degrees, seventy four degrees or eighty two degrees.
- 10:24Speaker 5: That was a really nice touch, a.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Lot of quick answers. Some folks did not even need
- 10:28Speaker 1: the choices. Here they are again, one hundred thirty five degrees,
- 10:32Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty degrees, one hundred and sixty five
- 10:35Speaker 1: degrees or one hundred eighty degrees. And we're looking for
- 10:38Speaker 1: what the USDA recommends you cook a turkey too, which
- 10:42Speaker 1: is when salmonila instantly dies. Do you follow this rule? Yanni?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Do you know the answer and do you follow this rule?
- 10:52Speaker 4: If the answer that I've written is correct.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Then yes, Randall and Corey very quick to answer. You
- 10:58Speaker 1: boys know this one.
- 11:00Speaker 5: I look this up once a year.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Okay, right a Thanksgiving or is it not? After spring
- 11:05Speaker 1: turkey season?
- 11:07Speaker 5: Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving? And yeah, if I actually get it up
- 11:10Speaker 5: to one sixty five, not so, it depends on how
- 11:13Speaker 5: the day is going.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Randy just answers one sixty five from Randall. Corey says
- 11:22Speaker 1: one sixty five, McKenzie one sixty five, Matt one sixty five,
- 11:28Speaker 1: col one fifty, Anthony, Marge, and Yanni saying one sixty five.
- 11:34Speaker 1: The correct answer is one sixty five. Nearly the whole
- 11:39Speaker 1: room got that.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Salmonila is the top cosmic.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Ray for folks who can't walk.
- 11:46Speaker 1: You know. Although the USDA and CDC strongly recommend cooking
- 11:53Speaker 1: a bird to one hundred and sixty five degrees fahrenheit,
- 11:56Speaker 1: there are alternative temperatures that are safe. For example, salmonella
- 12:01Speaker 1: will die at one hundred and fifty degrees after four minutes,
- 12:05Speaker 1: at one hundred and fifty five degrees after two minutes,
- 12:08Speaker 1: or at one hundred and sixty degrees after thirty seconds.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So you don't have to hit one sixty five to kill.
- 12:14Speaker 4: That disease, you do to kill that dinner.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's a good way to look at and for our
- 12:21Speaker 1: Canadian listeners, the correct answer with seventy four degrees celsius.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Question two, The topic is biology. This next great question
- 12:29Speaker 1: is via Kendon Martin. Encyclopedia Britannica defines this two word
- 12:35Speaker 1: term as quote any flesh eating animal that has no
- 12:39Speaker 1: natural predators or enemies. It's a two word term. The
- 12:45Speaker 1: topic is biology. We're looking for the definition for any
- 12:49Speaker 1: flesh eating animal that has no natural predators or enemies. Randall,
- 12:54Speaker 1: did you realize on that last one in your little
- 12:57Speaker 1: banter that you said the answer one hundred and sixty
- 12:59Speaker 1: five degrees.
- 13:00Speaker 5: No, I didn't, Okay, you had no idea. Yeah, I
- 13:04Speaker 5: just let that slip. I guess that's tremendously embarrassing.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Didn't didn't matter.
- 13:10Speaker 1: The room was done writing again. We're on question two.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Encyclopedia Britannic. It defines this two word term as any
- 13:19Speaker 1: flesh eating animal that has no natural predators or enemies. Yanni,
- 13:24Speaker 1: you got this one, believe so Randa looks con.
- 13:31Speaker 5: I think that's called a Kelsey now revealing the answer
- 13:36Speaker 5: to the whole room.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Uh. That is a throwback to the Wives and Girlfriend's
- 13:40Speaker 1: episode the Yeah, there was a question about a definition
- 13:44Speaker 1: a two word term. M The answer was girl dinner.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And I think Kelsey had said in that episode she
- 13:49Speaker 1: goes the only thing I can think of that it
- 13:51Speaker 1: would be is girl dinner, which is there was a
- 13:54Speaker 1: good reasoning for that because that was the answer, Marge.
- 13:57Speaker 1: On that last question, question one about the turkey she
- 14:00Speaker 1: drew us a beautiful Thanksgiving turkey. Do you have a
- 14:03Speaker 1: little doodle for question two? No? Okay? Do you have
- 14:06Speaker 1: a good answer for question two? No okay? Again, looking
- 14:10Speaker 1: for any flesh eating animal that has no natural predators
- 14:13Speaker 1: or enemies, Your answer should be two words. Is everybody ready?
- 14:21Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 14:23Speaker 1: We have Randall saying apex predator, Corey says Miso predator,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Mackenzie says mega carnivore, Matt apex predator, cal Apex predator,
- 14:36Speaker 1: Anthony apex, carnivore, mcken's excuse me, Marge without an answer,
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yanni saying apex predator. The correct answer is apex predator
- 14:47Speaker 1: or super predator. What do you guys think should we
- 14:50Speaker 1: give it to Anthony who had apex but had carnivore
- 14:54Speaker 1: instead of predator?
- 14:56Speaker 4: Crandall think about where it came from?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Well, yeah, everyone knows.
- 15:03Speaker 8: I mean, listen, that's that's not what the term is.
- 15:06Speaker 8: I'm going to be an asshole about it.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Okay, I don't think that's being an asshole film.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We're going to be an asshole about in.
- 15:18Speaker 5: It occurs to me now that everybody groaned when I
- 15:21Speaker 5: said that, because I'd revealed the answer. I thought everybody
- 15:24Speaker 5: was just reacting poorly to my joke that I sometimes
- 15:26Speaker 5: serve an undercrub turkey.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Okay, try not to think about it for the rest
- 15:29Speaker 1: of the episode.
- 15:31Speaker 4: My theory is that's just the way Randall wanted to start.
- 15:34Speaker 4: It's just a mental slap to everybody's face. He's given
- 15:39Speaker 4: away answers.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Apex predators hold the top position of an ecosystem's food chain.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Some examples of apex predators are alligators, grizzlies, killer whales, ospreys, cheetahs,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and giant squids, but many ecologists argue that the ultimate
- 15:56Speaker 1: apex predator is humans. Question three the top is fishing.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Name three of the four states that the Arkansas River
- 16:05Speaker 1: flows through. Ooh, the Arkansas River flows through four states,
- 16:12Speaker 1: so you need to tell me three of them. This
- 16:18Speaker 1: is question three, Yanni, thinking hard, Yanni? How many states
- 16:26Speaker 1: do you have so far?
- 16:28Speaker 6: One?
- 16:28Speaker 5: Oh?
- 16:29Speaker 9: Okay, can I guess what you want?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Name three?
- 16:37Speaker 4: Not that one?
- 16:38Speaker 1: The four states that the Arkansas River flows through. We
- 16:42Speaker 1: have Corey searching the room for a map, hoping that
- 16:47Speaker 1: some sort of art that has geography in and around
- 16:50Speaker 1: here could help him out. You find anything, Corey?
- 16:54Speaker 4: That Nebraska map had more details, right.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm staring at the Nebraska map.
- 16:58Speaker 4: It's not helping.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Name three of the four states that the Arkansas River
- 17:03Speaker 1: flows through. Nobody has finished writing quite yet, except for Randall.
- 17:13Speaker 1: First one to put his marker and whiteboard down. Randall,
- 17:17Speaker 1: how many do you have?
- 17:18Speaker 6: For sure?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Two flows through four states? You need to tell me
- 17:29Speaker 1: three of them. How are your hands helping you out there? Anthony?
- 17:37Speaker 1: Tell me about what you're doing doing little geography with
- 17:40Speaker 1: the states.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And now I'm second guessing my.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Answer, Corey finishing up his answer. Corey, do you think
- 17:50Speaker 1: you have this one right?
- 17:51Speaker 6: No?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yanni, do you think you have this one right?
- 17:55Speaker 5: No?
- 17:56Speaker 6: Hmm good.
- 17:59Speaker 1: The room is leaking confidence. As I said earlier, Next week,
- 18:06Speaker 1: Randal is hosting Randal. How do you feel about the
- 18:09Speaker 1: episode you've created.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I'm very excited for it. I've got a little uh
- 18:15Speaker 5: surprise supplementary media.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Okay, I like that. Did you tell Phil yet?
- 18:21Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:22Speaker 5: Okay, Phil thinks it's too long?
- 18:26Speaker 4: Okay, genuine hurt on doctor Randall's face for those just listening.
- 18:31Speaker 6: His response was, I thought you would say that it was.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Too long, And then Phil said, I thought you would
- 18:38Speaker 1: say that Randall and he boys would be in a
- 18:40Speaker 1: real pretzel. Does everyone have an answer?
- 18:45Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Randall saying Colorado, Kansas, Missouri. Cory says Missouri, Colorado, Kansas.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Mackenzie says Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee. Matt says Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Cal says Colorado. He wrote down four states the question,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you got it? Write down three of the four, he says, Colorado,
- 19:15Speaker 1: New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas. Anthony says Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas. Marge
- 19:24Speaker 1: says Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma. Jannis says Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Phil.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I don't think anybody got it right.
- 19:35Speaker 6: That'll be a zero percenter no, But he got that
- 19:37Speaker 6: one right.
- 19:38Speaker 1: The four states are Arkansas, which a few of you
- 19:41Speaker 1: just didn't bother to write down. Thought it was a
- 19:43Speaker 1: trick question, Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. A lot of you
- 19:49Speaker 1: had three of the four, but not, excuse me, a
- 19:53Speaker 1: lot of you had two of the three. Now with
- 19:55Speaker 1: all three Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma. The Wilkinsaw River is
- 20:01Speaker 1: the sixth longest river in the United States and the
- 20:04Speaker 1: forty fifth longest river in the world. It starts in
- 20:07Speaker 1: the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and it ends at the
- 20:10Speaker 1: Mississippi River in Arkansas. The Colorado portion of the river
- 20:14Speaker 1: is famous for its trout and has been named one
- 20:17Speaker 1: of the best fly fishing destinations in America by Trout Unlimited.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Question four. The topic is hunting. This next Great Question
- 20:25Speaker 1: is via Matthew Alt.
- 20:28Speaker 3: This Miami Dolphin Hall of Famer hosted a hunting and
- 20:32Speaker 3: fishing show that aired on ESPN from nineteen ninety eight
- 20:36Speaker 3: to two.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Thousand and five. All Randall needed was this Miami Dolphin
- 20:41Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, and he was writing down his answer.
- 20:44Speaker 1: The topic is hunting. This Miami Dolphin Hall of Famer
- 20:48Speaker 1: hosted a hunting and fishing show that aired on ESPN
- 20:52Speaker 1: from nineteen ninety eight to two thousand and five.
- 20:57Speaker 4: I know one person, and that's because of movie that
- 21:01Speaker 4: is not necessarily a movie.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Okay, I think I know what you're talking about.
- 21:06Speaker 5: But it is a great movie.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Oh, one of the best. Yeah, exactly.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Youre real thinker Cal's confidence was confident? Yanni? Do you
- 21:14Speaker 1: have this one right?
- 21:17Speaker 4: Don't know yet.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Corey Calkins, do you have this one right?
- 21:20Speaker 5: I got a great guess.
- 21:21Speaker 1: This Miami Dolphin Hall of Famer hosted a hunting and
- 21:24Speaker 1: fishing show that aired on ESPN from nineteen ninety eight
- 21:29Speaker 1: to two thousand and five.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Did he play on that undefeated Miami Dolphins tea.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to give you any hints, Yanni.
- 21:36Speaker 4: They did the Super Bowl shuffle, Yannie, that was great.
- 21:41Speaker 1: McKenzie just not going to pick up her whiteboard for
- 21:43Speaker 1: this one. I respect that stance. Don't even entertain the question.
- 21:49Speaker 1: This Miami Dolphin Hall of Famer hosted a hunting and
- 21:52Speaker 1: fishing show that aired on ESPN nineteen ninety eight to
- 21:56Speaker 1: two thousand and five. Is everybody ready?
- 21:59Speaker 6: I don't think?
- 22:01Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 22:03Speaker 1: We have Randall saying Larry Zonka, Cory it says Dan Marino. Mackenzie,
- 22:08Speaker 1: that's out an answer. Matt and Cal and Anthony say
- 22:13Speaker 1: Dan Marino, Marge drew a football being kicked through some
- 22:16Speaker 1: offeras Jannis says Larry Zonka. The correct answer is Larry Zanka.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Jannis and Randall got that one right. And for spellcheck,
- 22:29Speaker 1: his last name is c. S n k A one
- 22:34Speaker 1: of you got right right see. Zaka was famously part
- 22:39Speaker 1: of the nineteen seventy two Perfect Season, where the Dolphins
- 22:43Speaker 1: went seventeen to oh and won the Super Bowl Yanni.
- 22:45Speaker 1: After retiring from football, he moved to Alaska and started
- 22:49Speaker 1: filming his outdoor adventures. Zanka has hosted multiple hunting and
- 22:53Speaker 1: fishing programs, including North to Alaska, Suzuki's Great Outdoors, and
- 22:58Speaker 1: Zanka Outdoor.
- 23:00Speaker 4: What a crap players to have to play football?
- 23:03Speaker 3: Okay yea.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He said it drove him to Alaska because he hated
- 23:07Speaker 1: the training cape. The training camp there in the summer
- 23:10Speaker 1: would just zap him, so all you could think about
- 23:12Speaker 1: was Alaska, and it kind of kind of inspired what became,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, his outdoor production empire.
- 23:18Speaker 4: That tracks with me.
- 23:19Speaker 7: I guided the nose tackle from that team to a
- 23:23Speaker 7: four point bowl?
- 23:25Speaker 1: Does he have a name?
- 23:26Speaker 7: Manny Fernandez?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Johnny guided him.
- 23:29Speaker 7: In nineteen seventy two. You didn't have to be a
- 23:31Speaker 7: giant to play nose tackle. All of those look like
- 23:34Speaker 7: average dudes. Yeah, it could have been a plumber.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is woodsmanship. This is our listener
- 23:41Speaker 1: question of the week, which was won by Tim Jasper
- 23:44Speaker 1: for sending this great question. Tim is going to get
- 23:46Speaker 1: a board game signed by the crew. If you want
- 23:49Speaker 1: a chance to win our listener Question of the Week,
- 23:51Speaker 1: then send your question to Trivia at the meat eater
- 23:53Speaker 1: dot com. Merriam Webster defines this seven letter word as
- 23:58Speaker 1: quote a prime that grows vertically downward and gives off
- 24:03Speaker 1: small lateral roots. Merriam Webster defines this seven letter word
- 24:10Speaker 1: as a primary route that grows vertically downward and gives
- 24:15Speaker 1: off small lateral roots. Randall quick to answer, He's the
- 24:21Speaker 1: only one. No, come on, okay, March Oh Marge is
- 24:24Speaker 1: already on her doodle. You know this one March. Marge
- 24:28Speaker 1: has this one and now she's she's working on her
- 24:31Speaker 1: drawing for US. Yanna, you have this one, right, I
- 24:34Speaker 1: believe so a primary route that grows vertically downward and
- 24:39Speaker 1: gives off small lateral roots. Randall, did you ever watch
- 24:43Speaker 1: Zanka Outdoors? ESPN?
- 24:47Speaker 5: Loved it?
- 24:48Speaker 1: He uh, he famously. I think he ended that show
- 24:50Speaker 1: after he got he had to get rescued off the
- 24:53Speaker 1: coast of Alaska. Yeah, they like got caught in a storm,
- 24:56Speaker 1: drifted fifteen miles off course on a black tail hunt. Uh,
- 25:01Speaker 1: and then the show ended.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Yeah, he was saved.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He was saved by the coast guard. The crazy thing
- 25:06Speaker 1: about the coast guard when they had to come rescue him.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I think it was a ten hour flight to get there.
- 25:10Speaker 1: It's all just far away from everything what they were.
- 25:14Speaker 5: It seems hard to believe.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Again, we're on question five. Merriam Webster defines this seven
- 25:19Speaker 1: letter word as a primary route that grows vertically downward
- 25:23Speaker 1: and gives off small lateral roots. Yannie, Randall and Marge
- 25:28Speaker 1: are confident. I feel like you know it, Mackenzie. Mackenzie
- 25:34Speaker 1: feels like she knows it, and Yannie feels like Mackenzie
- 25:37Speaker 1: knows it as well.
- 25:40Speaker 9: I got really excited when the first thing I wrote
- 25:42Speaker 9: on was primary and it had seven and then I
- 25:44Speaker 9: realized that it was already in the question.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Well, carnivore was on the carnivore question.
- 25:54Speaker 1: As well as any flesh eating animal that has no
- 26:00Speaker 1: natural predators or enemies. Again, we're on question five. We
- 26:05Speaker 1: will get a scoreboard update from Phil after this.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Sure is a fun part of the day. Well, oh,
- 26:16Speaker 5: it's great, love. The day doesn't really start until we
- 26:19Speaker 5: start playing.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Whirler.
- 26:22Speaker 5: No, I'm a crossword man. I held my tongue earlier
- 26:25Speaker 5: when people were joking about how old you need to
- 26:27Speaker 5: do to play crosswords. In fact, Spencer sending me his
- 26:31Speaker 5: test crossword inspired me to renew my time subscription. Oh wow,
- 26:36Speaker 5: and then I knocked out a couple bad boys in
- 26:38Speaker 5: the first week, and I haven't really touched it.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Since he's getting back into play in shape. Yeah, when
- 26:43Speaker 1: the crossword comes out, I think something we'll do is
- 26:45Speaker 1: we'll maybe tell you some crew member scores for that
- 26:48Speaker 1: week's crossword. Randall doesn't want to be embarrassed by his
- 26:52Speaker 1: pathetic score that he has, so he's been practicing. You
- 26:56Speaker 1: didn't have a pathetic score.
- 26:57Speaker 5: I'm just sorry. I smoked that crossword you sent to
- 26:59Speaker 5: me in like four minutes.
- 27:01Speaker 1: And he smoked the hard crossword that I sent to him.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And I was going to make sure whatever score he
- 27:06Speaker 1: has to present to the meat eater audience is going
- 27:09Speaker 1: to be as good as it gets.
- 27:10Speaker 5: I don't mean to come across as a jerk or anything.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Is everybody ready brutal? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 27:19Speaker 1: We have Randalls saying tamproot, Cordy says spiders, Mackenzie without
- 27:25Speaker 1: an answer. Matt says primary, col says primary. Anthony says
- 27:29Speaker 1: the root. Marge says tap root, and drew us a
- 27:33Speaker 1: beautiful little garden that has one of those carrots the
- 27:38Speaker 1: lions okay, and then a large perfect and Yanni says
- 27:43Speaker 1: tap root. He got it. The correct answer is tap root.
- 27:47Speaker 1: The tap root serves many functions like anchoring the plant,
- 27:51Speaker 1: absorbing water and nutrients, and storing proteins. In some cases,
- 27:56Speaker 1: the part of the plant that we eat is actually
- 27:59Speaker 1: the tap root. This is true for vegetables like carrots, radishes, turnips,
- 28:04Speaker 1: and beats.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Phil we're halfway through.
- 28:07Speaker 1: The game of trivia, give us a scoreboard update.
- 28:11Speaker 8: All right, everyone's on the board. It's got cal Anthony, Corey,
- 28:15Speaker 8: and Mackenzie with one point. Matt and Maggie have two,
- 28:19Speaker 8: and hey, just like last week's game of trivia, it's
- 28:22Speaker 8: down to Randall and Giannis. Currently they're tied up at
- 28:24Speaker 8: with four points apiece.
- 28:26Speaker 7: Anybody's game.
- 28:28Speaker 4: I don't find you know the tap root one. I've
- 28:34Speaker 4: never heard that word in my life.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Never heard of it.
- 28:36Speaker 4: You know, sometimes you're really close to.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Getting in Yeah?
- 28:39Speaker 4: Never what about the band? M m no, I don't
- 28:43Speaker 4: know what you're talking about.
- 28:46Speaker 3: I think that's the problem.
- 28:47Speaker 4: The bad part is like every basic biology class in
- 28:51Speaker 4: the United States, hous a lesson off.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Of question six. The topic is cooking. Yeah, this state
- 29:01Speaker 1: produces sixty percent of America's seafood, and this is measured
- 29:06Speaker 1: in pounds. Question six, the topic is cooking. This state
- 29:14Speaker 1: produces sixty percent of America's seafood. Corey very quick to answer,
- 29:25Speaker 1: Mackenzie now joining him with an answer. Yanni, it's grinning
- 29:32Speaker 1: is He writes down an answer. This state produces sixty
- 29:37Speaker 1: percent of America's seafood.
- 29:43Speaker 9: I feel like this is a tricky one.
- 29:45Speaker 6: I feel like it's a trick question.
- 29:48Speaker 4: It's got to be right.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Randall, do you have this one right?
- 29:51Speaker 5: I don't know. I still know Corey.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Do you have this one right? The quickest to answer?
- 29:56Speaker 3: I feel like it can't be any other state.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Okay, how about you? Yanni?
- 30:04Speaker 3: Good?
- 30:04Speaker 4: Guess that's all I got.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Good. Yeah, he liked what Corey said. It seemed to
- 30:09Speaker 1: bring him a bit of confidence.
- 30:11Speaker 7: I haven't read anything about you know, stats along the
- 30:16Speaker 7: lines of where most of the seafood comes from.
- 30:18Speaker 1: So get measured in pounds, this state produces sixty of
- 30:24Speaker 1: America's seafood. Is everybody ready? Mackenzie making a last second,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I was just crossing.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 30:37Speaker 1: We have Randall saying Alaska, Cory Alaska, Mackenzie and Matt
- 30:44Speaker 1: and Cal saying Alaska.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Anthony says Maine, Marge says Maine.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Yanni says Alaska could be Louisiana. The correct answer is Alaska,
- 30:59Speaker 1: room very well. In twenty twenty two, commercial anglers in
- 31:04Speaker 1: Alaska produced five billion pounds of seafood. That's followed by
- 31:09Speaker 1: Louisiana with nine hundred million pounds. Virginia with four hundred million,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and Mississippi and Oregon with two hundred million.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Steam drop off sixty.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Percent of your seafood comes from Alaska. Question seven. The
- 31:24Speaker 1: topic is fishing. The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation created
- 31:30Speaker 1: this three word campaign as a way to increase participation
- 31:34Speaker 1: in fishing.
- 31:36Speaker 9: Didn't we have this question?
- 31:38Speaker 1: I not had this question, but we had a question
- 31:43Speaker 1: about a movement that became a group, which was leave
- 31:46Speaker 1: no trace. So there's a hint. The answer is not
- 31:49Speaker 1: leave no trace to this one.
- 31:52Speaker 6: That's helpful.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Question again is The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation created
- 31:58Speaker 1: this three word campaign as a way to increase participation
- 32:04Speaker 1: in fishing. Randall and Yanni both have an answer. Do
- 32:08Speaker 1: you boys have this one right?
- 32:12Speaker 5: I think so. If it were in any other context,
- 32:15Speaker 5: I probably wouldn't be second guessing myself. But given here
- 32:19Speaker 5: we are question seven, I'll tie up.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 32:23Speaker 5: No, I'm overthinking it.
- 32:24Speaker 1: You have this one right?
- 32:25Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Watch this.
- 32:29Speaker 7: Gage Spencer's reaction to a quick peak at my glimpse.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Janni flashed me his answer to the question Recreational Boating
- 32:39Speaker 1: and Fishing voundation. I hated this three word campaign as
- 32:44Speaker 1: a way to increase participation in fishing.
- 32:48Speaker 5: I wrote that down and then I erased it and
- 32:50Speaker 5: wrote my answer.
- 32:54Speaker 1: And they disagree.
- 32:55Speaker 7: Good for the game, good for the game, not gonna
- 32:58Speaker 7: be good for one of.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Us, good for this family.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Well you never know.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Well I don't like that. It was my initial. Oh
- 33:07Speaker 5: I guess.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Is everybody ready.
- 33:09Speaker 3: I've learned over the years. You gotta stick with your.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Should have three words for your answer.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I'm a coward.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying,
- 33:22Speaker 1: take me fishing. Corey says, let's go fishing. Mackenzie, get
- 33:27Speaker 1: out there, met just go fish. Cow take a kid, Anthony,
- 33:34Speaker 1: take a cast, Marge, go fish Yannis, let's go fishing.
- 33:41Speaker 1: We have a correct answer in the room. It's take
- 33:44Speaker 1: me fishing.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Oh, Randall right.
- 33:49Speaker 1: When Congress passed the Sport Fishing and Boating Safety Act
- 33:53Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety eight, they required the Department of the
- 33:57Speaker 1: Interior to address fishing participation. Thus, the Recreational Boating and
- 34:02Speaker 1: Fishing Foundation was made, who then created the Take Me
- 34:05Speaker 1: Fishing program. Take Me Fishing helps new anglers, especially kids,
- 34:10Speaker 1: acquire the gear, licenses, and knowledge to start fishing. You
- 34:14Speaker 1: were all on the right track, but only Randall came
- 34:17Speaker 1: up with the correct answer.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Strong question.
- 34:21Speaker 1: The topic is conservation. This endangered amphibian, which has become
- 34:27Speaker 1: a popular aquarium pet, is only native to lakes near
- 34:30Speaker 1: Mexico City. Oh, This endangered amphibian, which has become a
- 34:40Speaker 1: popular aquarium pet, is only native to lakes near Mexico City.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Can we have a verbal answer if we don't know.
- 34:47Speaker 8: How to.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Just write down your answers? Spelling has never mattered except
- 34:53Speaker 1: for one time in the history of media or trivia.
- 34:56Speaker 1: One question in the thirteen hundred questions I've ever answer asked,
- 35:01Speaker 1: you had to spell correctly. This one you do not.
- 35:04Speaker 1: This endangered amphibian, which has become a popular aquarium pet,
- 35:09Speaker 1: is only native to lakes near Mexico City.
- 35:13Speaker 9: I'm on the same page as you, March. I think m.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Corey thinks he has it right. Mackenzie and Marge maybe
- 35:22Speaker 1: have it right. Randall. Do you have an answer written
- 35:24Speaker 1: down yet?
- 35:25Speaker 5: I do not, which is surprising because I'm pretty into
- 35:29Speaker 5: exotic pets.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Surprising my kids are obsessed with. Oh.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Okay, there's a hint. If you know Phil's family, you
- 35:38Speaker 1: can see one in town. Oh, okay, another hint from
- 35:41Speaker 1: March where at that's enough.
- 35:47Speaker 6: There it's an aquarium store where I go for.
- 35:49Speaker 8: Gary the goldfish censer and said, did not eat on part.
- 35:56Speaker 6: Of my plate?
- 35:59Speaker 3: No way?
- 36:00Speaker 4: Can you now house him? Yeah, he's.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I call it the viv And I also have to
- 36:07Speaker 1: go there to get crickets for my pet frog. So
- 36:13Speaker 1: this endangered and has become a popular aquarium pet is
- 36:19Speaker 1: only native to lakes near Mexico City. Phil, What have
- 36:27Speaker 1: you gotten this one? Right? If you didn't have the
- 36:29Speaker 1: answer in front of you?
- 36:30Speaker 6: Oh?
- 36:30Speaker 8: Yeah, ok, because there is another building in Bozeman where
- 36:34Speaker 8: you can see one of these that's not the visa.
- 36:37Speaker 1: All right, provided any hints for this answer? Yanni now
- 36:47Speaker 1: has an answer, Randall, do you have an answer that's
- 36:50Speaker 1: a joke?
- 36:50Speaker 5: Answer?
- 36:51Speaker 1: Okay, everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 36:57Speaker 1: have Randall saying pokemon. Corey says ax a lottle, Mackenzie
- 37:03Speaker 1: axe lottle, Matt, Hila, cal and Anthony without an answer.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Large says axe lottle, and she drew us an axe lottle.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Janni says leopard frog. The correct answer is axe lottle.
- 37:18Speaker 1: About half of the room. Got that one right?
- 37:21Speaker 9: How do you spell it?
- 37:22Speaker 1: A XO L O T L. Did anybody have that right?
- 37:28Speaker 4: I just missed close.
- 37:30Speaker 5: Yes, Cory was very close.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Axe lottle are a type of salamander that reached sexual
- 37:35Speaker 1: maturity without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of taking to land, adults
- 37:40Speaker 1: remain fully aquatic and gild. They are one of the
- 37:44Speaker 1: planet's most endangered animals, with recent surveys indicating that there
- 37:48Speaker 1: are fewer than one thousand left in the wild. However,
- 37:51Speaker 1: they are easy to breed and take care of in captivity,
- 37:54Speaker 1: which has made them popular in the pet trade.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Man, you gotta wonder, like if that species could go
- 38:01Speaker 4: back and do it again. M hm, would they further
- 38:05Speaker 4: evolve or are they like no long term survival? Says,
- 38:09Speaker 4: kids are gonna put us in tanks. We're gonna be everywhere.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Yeah, and they are.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And they're all white. Now, basically, any axe lot you
- 38:17Speaker 1: see an aquarium is lucistic or albino. We have there's
- 38:21Speaker 1: a series of lakes in Montana called the Axilata Lakes
- 38:25Speaker 1: which have a tiger salamander in them which does not
- 38:28Speaker 1: fully go through metamorphosis. But they're not a true ax
- 38:31Speaker 1: A lott they're high up in some alpine lakes. It's
- 38:33Speaker 1: just too cold. That determined that they never decided to
- 38:38Speaker 1: take that next step.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Yeah, they're like, we're not crawling on it.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Phil, we have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard Updateeah.
- 38:47Speaker 6: Let's see.
- 38:47Speaker 8: I usually do the math before this, but I wasn't
- 38:49Speaker 8: paying any attention. I think, Uh, let's see Randall and
- 38:52Speaker 8: Yannis are once again the only players. Oh no, because
- 38:56Speaker 8: we're on question eight, so anyone with three points can
- 38:59Speaker 8: catch up.
- 38:59Speaker 6: So well, no, no, nope, it's do.
- 39:04Speaker 4: Randall's got six gas has five?
- 39:07Speaker 1: Just heard Phil doing the math. Phil, I think you
- 39:09Speaker 1: want to get an axe Lottle.
- 39:11Speaker 8: Oh please please don't plant I mean, if my kids
- 39:13Speaker 8: had a rolling here again, I know you and you
- 39:15Speaker 8: will definitely plant that in their heads.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I think I will. Question nine. The topic is wildlife.
- 39:21Speaker 1: This state capitol is known for having North America's largest
- 39:26Speaker 1: urban bat population, which you can see at the Congress
- 39:30Speaker 1: Avenue Bridge.
- 39:31Speaker 4: I swear to god, we've already had this one.
- 39:33Speaker 1: We've never had this question, I promise.
- 39:35Speaker 4: I know you have a system for this, but it
- 39:39Speaker 4: was worded a different way.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Maybe Nope. I we've had questions about we had to
- 39:44Speaker 1: where you had to name a state capital where you
- 39:46Speaker 1: could fish in the Missouri River or Mississippi River, I
- 39:51Speaker 1: think it was. We've never had this question though.
- 39:53Speaker 8: If you try to take on Spencer's spreadsheets, Colts, it's
- 39:55Speaker 8: a losing battle.
- 39:57Speaker 1: This state capitol is known for having winning the largest
- 40:02Speaker 1: urban population, which you can see at the Congress Avenue Bridge. Randall,
- 40:08Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 40:10Speaker 5: I believe so.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Cordy, do you have this one right?
- 40:12Speaker 5: I'm just making a guess of a state that I
- 40:14Speaker 5: think has a lot of bats.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Marge, you have this one right. Okay, Yanni, we need
- 40:21Speaker 1: you to get this one right to keep pace with Randall,
- 40:23Speaker 1: who's confident in his answer.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm failing at that.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Okay. You need to write down a state capitol that
- 40:30Speaker 1: is known for having North America's largest urban bat population,
- 40:35Speaker 1: which you can see at Congress Avenue Bridge. Randall, have
- 40:39Speaker 1: you ever seen this place? Have you've been there?
- 40:42Speaker 6: Saw TV?
- 40:43Speaker 1: Okay, that's helpful. No one else in the room looks
- 40:47Speaker 1: very confident. Again, your answer will be a state capitol.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Don't write down the state right down the state capitol.
- 40:56Speaker 5: I else could be wrong.
- 40:57Speaker 1: So okay, yeah, maybe the TV was wrong.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Don't want to be No, I just don't want to
- 41:01Speaker 5: be over confident. I could be misremembering what I saw
- 41:03Speaker 5: on the Tell me.
- 41:04Speaker 4: It's super easy, super you.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Have right, cat?
- 41:09Speaker 1: Yes, okay, have you been there?
- 41:10Speaker 4: Yes?
- 41:11Speaker 6: Oh?
- 41:11Speaker 1: Did you like see the thing? Or no?
- 41:14Speaker 4: I feel like it's kind of like impossible to go
- 41:19Speaker 4: to this town and not hear about the.
- 41:23Speaker 7: Cals having deja vu because he already told the story
- 41:26Speaker 7: in another game of trivia.
- 41:29Speaker 1: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 41:35Speaker 1: have Randall saying Austin. Corey says Albuquerque, Mackenzie Saint Paul
- 41:41Speaker 1: Matt Baltimore, Cal Austin, Massachusetts, Anthony Sacramento, March, Austin. She
- 41:51Speaker 1: drew us a bat, honest, Lexington, Wait.
- 41:54Speaker 4: A minute, it's Boston, Texas.
- 41:58Speaker 1: The correct answer is this is Austin, Texas. We had
- 42:02Speaker 1: about half of the room get that one right. Roughly
- 42:05Speaker 1: one point five million bats call Austin home from March
- 42:09Speaker 1: to September. Each night, at sunset, they fly out of
- 42:13Speaker 1: They fly out from the Congress Avenue Bridge to hunt
- 42:16Speaker 1: for insects along the Colorado River. The Texas Parks and
- 42:20Speaker 1: Wildlife Department says the tourist attraction brings one hundred and
- 42:23Speaker 1: forty thousand people and ten million dollars to the city
- 42:27Speaker 1: each year.
- 42:28Speaker 8: What type of bat?
- 42:30Speaker 1: It's a Mexican Let's see here, I have it written down.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It's a Mexican long tailed bat or something like that.
- 42:37Speaker 1: They're very common in Texas. Now here's a correct answer.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Review so far. Question one was one hundred and sixty
- 42:43Speaker 1: five degrees two Apex Predator three Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma
- 42:51Speaker 1: four Larry Zanka five tap Route six Alaska, seven, take
- 42:57Speaker 1: Me Fishing eight Axiladel nine Austin, Texas. And I think
- 43:02Speaker 1: with that last question, Randall has wrapped up the victory.
- 43:05Speaker 1: But we'll finish the game anyway to see if he
- 43:08Speaker 1: can get the near perfect game. Question ten, the topic
- 43:12Speaker 1: is hunting. What is the most common shotgun shell length
- 43:17Speaker 1: at bass pro and shields? Do do you have seven
- 43:22Speaker 1: correct answers right now? Or eighty? Yes? Seven? Okay, you
- 43:25Speaker 1: won't get the near perfect game?
- 43:27Speaker 5: Ruined it already?
- 43:28Speaker 1: Uh huh again. This is question ten. The topic is hunting.
- 43:32Speaker 1: What is the most common shotgun shell length at bass
- 43:37Speaker 1: pro and shields.
- 43:42Speaker 4: I've heard this would have been a good multiple choice
- 43:45Speaker 4: to see where people am.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Now back to the Austin, Texas thing. I've heard Steve
- 43:50Speaker 1: bring it up, I think on Rogan's podcast before. Maybe
- 43:54Speaker 1: maybe that's what you were thinking of what I've never
- 43:56Speaker 1: never had it as a trivia question.
- 43:59Speaker 4: I've never heard of that Austin than bat thing in
- 44:01Speaker 4: my life or tap root.
- 44:05Speaker 3: It's like a major tourist attract I've.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Never been to Austin.
- 44:09Speaker 9: I've been to Austin like five times and have never Yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 9: I'm not sure what were you doing there?
- 44:15Speaker 4: I was, I was uh huh yeah, uh huh.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Well next time barbecue right there.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Are designed are like perfect for bats.
- 44:25Speaker 1: So they changed they changed the architecture of that in
- 44:29Speaker 1: nineteen eighty and that was what attracted all the bats.
- 44:32Speaker 6: We're learning something about Randall. Right, now you've got a
- 44:34Speaker 6: bat thing. Randall.
- 44:35Speaker 5: I just if there was a way to build bridges
- 44:38Speaker 5: so that bats are attracted to them, I'd build them
- 44:40Speaker 5: the other way.
- 44:42Speaker 4: But there there's such a uh it's a flying mammal,
- 44:46Speaker 4: which is amazing.
- 44:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I caught one in a pizza box one time.
- 44:51Speaker 4: I got one on the trail the other day found
- 44:53Speaker 4: a little sucker lane.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, keeps the insect population down. Think about that
- 44:57Speaker 1: one point five million bats flying around eating.
- 44:59Speaker 4: Plus they're like pollinators.
- 45:02Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not discounting there.
- 45:04Speaker 1: This is a pro bat podcast when podcast? Does everyone
- 45:09Speaker 1: have an answer for the most common shotgun shell length?
- 45:12Speaker 1: At bass pro and.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Okay, has anybody noticed here in the Gallatin Valley like
- 45:18Speaker 4: a serious declineate bees? I don't think we've had any bees,
- 45:23Speaker 4: and like all our pepper plants, I don't think they
- 45:26Speaker 4: cross pollinated this year. I have heard about this bees issue.
- 45:31Speaker 7: Go on, I got stung yesterday, really at the house nod.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Was that your first time?
- 45:42Speaker 5: Nice getting stung?
- 45:45Speaker 1: I have got stung before life?
- 45:48Speaker 6: I haven't either.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I've gotten stung by a wasp.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Did you grow up.
- 45:51Speaker 3: In a bubble?
- 45:57Speaker 1: It's everybody ready.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Go ahead and then reveal your answers.
- 46:01Speaker 1: We have Randallson saying three inches, Corey three, Mackenzie three,
- 46:08Speaker 1: Matt two and three quarter, Cal two and three quarter,
- 46:12Speaker 1: Anthony two and a half, Marge two and three quarter,
- 46:16Speaker 1: Yanni two and three quarter. The correct answer is two
- 46:22Speaker 1: and three quarter. We had five of you. Get that
- 46:26Speaker 1: one right at shields, there are one hundred and forty
- 46:29Speaker 1: four shells offered in two and three quarter versus one
- 46:33Speaker 1: hundred and twenty three shells offered in three inch. For
- 46:36Speaker 1: bass Pro there are eighty four shells in two and
- 46:39Speaker 1: three quarter versus forty eight in three inch. After that,
- 46:43Speaker 1: the most common lengths at both stores are three and
- 46:47Speaker 1: a half inch, two and a half inch, and one
- 46:49Speaker 1: in three quarter.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Oh Man, I totally misunderstood the question. I thought it
- 46:55Speaker 4: was like the most common shell sold, which I still
- 46:58Speaker 4: think has to be two and three quarter. But obviously
- 47:00Speaker 4: if the variety, it's.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Probably the same. I think I think you'd you'd come
- 47:05Speaker 1: to the same conclusion, mat or how you thought about that?
- 47:08Speaker 1: Randal is our winner with seven correct answers, Randall, where
- 47:15Speaker 1: is your five hundred dollars donation from me? Dedrew going
- 47:18Speaker 1: to go?
- 47:18Speaker 5: I would like to make this donation to the Three
- 47:21Speaker 5: Rivers Land Trust in North Carolina's Piedmont and Sandhills area.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I notice you fumbling with your phone at about question seven,
- 47:28Speaker 1: which I assume was to well, look up what conservation group?
- 47:32Speaker 5: Yeah? I received an email from their development associate Michael
