- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:12Speaker 2: All right, welcome in.
- 0:13Speaker 3: No Michael Bennett, definitely know Michael Bennett here, that is
- 0:17Speaker 3: my guy. But you have the crew from the Locker,
- 0:21Speaker 3: The Locker four one one, Anthony White, former UK running
- 0:25Speaker 3: back and Ben Howe, former UK and NFL defensive back.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Here to do this show for you guys on just
- 0:34Speaker 2: to catch radio.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Why Michael Bennett takes time to do some of his
- 0:38Speaker 3: personal duties. If you like to join the show, you
- 0:41Speaker 3: can join the show with us. You could call in
- 0:46Speaker 3: at five zero two three eight four fourteen fifty or
- 0:52Speaker 3: you can text the show at five zero two four
- 0:54Speaker 3: to one four fourteen fifty as well. We got Matthew,
- 0:57Speaker 3: Matt Reducer who joins in the show pretty frequently. You know,
- 1:02Speaker 3: give us a different opinion. Uh, he is a little fan,
- 1:05Speaker 3: and don't hold that against him. I looked at the
- 1:08Speaker 3: stats and algorithm from yesterday and they don't like the
- 1:11Speaker 3: fact that he's a Lituiver fan. But then I thought,
- 1:15Speaker 3: a nice warm hug. He's an honest little fan. He's
- 1:18Speaker 3: not one of those obnoxious or.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Fan so, you know, so.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Give Matt, give mat a little bit of grace and man, man,
- 1:28Speaker 3: I you know Matt's all right with me? Is it
- 1:32Speaker 3: alright with you?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah? He cool with me.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I'm just saying there it took us to uncover this
- 1:38Speaker 3: this fact, or or then people know this already, because
- 1:41Speaker 3: if it took us to uncover this fact, we might
- 1:44Speaker 3: have to get us a PI year.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We might be probably investigators.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Man, because if we've done this out of the out
- 1:51Speaker 3: of the vault, how long you been working him out?
- 1:54Speaker 1: I've been working over over a year.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Now, okay, twelve months.
- 1:58Speaker 3: No one found out, no one has has has figured
- 2:01Speaker 3: out that Matt was dumping the rhythmic comments for Michael.
- 2:07Speaker 3: He was saying good stuff like this is someone when
- 2:10Speaker 3: we had when Michael Bennett had dead, and it was
- 2:14Speaker 3: a reason for that was because Matt was dumping the
- 2:17Speaker 3: good stuff because he was he was setting this lootle.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We are good people, man, We find out stuff. Hey,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and that's why people should tune in. And people tuned in.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I got we got messages all afternoon after the show
- 2:33Speaker 3: was over. So I think we did a pretty decent
- 2:35Speaker 3: job and hopefully Michael would be proud of the job
- 2:39Speaker 3: we did yesterday. We're gonna try and do it even
- 2:40Speaker 3: better job today because Van Hiles, I sent you a
- 2:45Speaker 3: I sent you a I sent you some information about
- 2:53Speaker 3: our beloved cats, our beloved Well when we say beloved cats,
- 2:57Speaker 3: you know, we cover a lot of sports to me
- 2:59Speaker 3: that could be skared enter in the volleyball team that
- 3:02Speaker 3: you know, I can be Garrison in Gymnast six team
- 3:04Speaker 3: that actually be lost in the softball team team you
- 3:09Speaker 3: know the other the other schools don't have to really
- 3:11Speaker 3: be or the other teams don't have to really be.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Man, they got our beloved cats ranked SEC.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Nation got our beloved Cats ranked sixteenth in the SEC
- 3:22Speaker 3: and football. And Matt, we're gonna keep you out of
- 3:24Speaker 3: this discussion because I really, after I gave you such
- 3:27Speaker 3: a great introduction, I do.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Not want to hear your opinion about that. Man, they
- 3:32Speaker 2: got us.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's okay, I get it. You know what I understand.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Also in the vaccine. If you guys have any questions,
- 3:38Speaker 1: y'all be here.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Man, they got us ranked sixteenth. They have us ranked
- 3:43Speaker 3: sixteenth in the SEC for this football season.
- 3:48Speaker 2: There are sixteen teams in SEC. Now whatever.
- 3:54Speaker 1: When happened, No, they had to add some just to
- 3:57Speaker 1: put Kentucky down there.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Appreciated Hey, Anthony, I mean, look, man, I can't say
- 4:09Speaker 3: too much, Bron, I can't say too much about that.
- 4:12Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's unfair, but I think
- 4:16Speaker 3: it's fair. I mean, I was on a one in
- 4:19Speaker 3: ten team. That means we won zero conference games, so
- 4:22Speaker 3: I'm sure we were at the but there was only twelve.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So you know what we can say we were not.
- 4:27Speaker 3: We are not the least ranked team because we was
- 4:30Speaker 3: only twelve, because there were only twelve teams back there.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Here's the deal, and this is why I know about
- 4:39Speaker 3: these rankings. You know this stuff is all offensive, right,
- 4:42Speaker 3: It's all about your offensive production returning. That's where a
- 4:46Speaker 3: lot of people get all these freaking stats from defense
- 4:48Speaker 3: don't matter, and it matters none. So what happens is
- 4:53Speaker 3: we have zero returner production from last year offense, no quarterback,
- 4:59Speaker 3: no running. I mean, if you go run running back
- 5:02Speaker 3: and receiver, we might have five percent of production returning.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So therefore new coach, no start of returning. I can
- 5:11Speaker 3: see them picking us last. We are not the worst
- 5:14Speaker 3: team in the conference. We're gonna be somewhere in that
- 5:21Speaker 3: that bottom third, probably without schedule playing Alabama and Texas
- 5:27Speaker 3: and m two and three doesn't help, so we'll see.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I don't I don't see us as dead last. But
- 5:37Speaker 3: I can understand. Here's the thing. You gotta look at
- 5:40Speaker 3: the perspective from people like me from out of state.
- 5:44Speaker 3: They don't see all the practices and all the energy
- 5:47Speaker 3: and all the positive vibes come out and be being.
- 5:50Speaker 3: All they see is what they see on paper. So
- 5:54Speaker 3: I understand. I don't think it's right.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Though.
- 5:58Speaker 3: We talked about this yesterday then and you I don't
- 6:03Speaker 3: really agree with you. I agree with you, but I
- 6:05Speaker 3: don't really agree with you. Because if the program is
- 6:08Speaker 3: going where we wanted to go, and you said, like
- 6:12Speaker 3: you said, a coach that was giving us wake up,
- 6:16Speaker 3: put your put your slippers on in the morning. Seven wins.
- 6:19Speaker 3: That's beaten Matt and his homeboys, Louisville and them three
- 6:23Speaker 3: and them three other joints, directional schools.
- 6:27Speaker 2: That's now. That's that'll give you four. All we need
- 6:31Speaker 2: is three. We can go.
- 6:32Speaker 3: We just need three wins at three and five in
- 6:35Speaker 3: sec to get to where our fan base wanted us be.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Then it raised he raised a little bit, like you said,
- 6:41Speaker 3: we raised it eight. So we need to go four
- 6:43Speaker 3: and four. We need to get them four out of
- 6:45Speaker 3: the conference games, and then we need to get four
- 6:48Speaker 3: in conference games at so we need to be five
- 6:49Speaker 3: hundred the conference. Again, the gift and the curse. Mark
- 6:56Speaker 3: Stoups raised the bar to the expectation was ten. We
- 7:00Speaker 3: need ten out of you and for you guys listening.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And this is more so me. Van is on the
- 7:06Speaker 3: He's been on the fence. I don't know if you
- 7:07Speaker 3: changed your stings, you've been on the fence. I don't
- 7:10Speaker 3: count the bowl games.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like when I was.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Fortunate enough to play in half my well two thirds
- 7:16Speaker 3: of my time playing, I was fortunate enough to play
- 7:18Speaker 3: in bowl games. And to me, my junior year going
- 7:22Speaker 3: to my senior year, it was cool. My senior year,
- 7:25Speaker 3: it was really like they were getting ready for the
- 7:27Speaker 3: next year. Really had nothing to do with me, So
- 7:30Speaker 3: it was not really a big deal. But I so
- 7:34Speaker 3: so those ten win seasons for all, for all intents
- 7:40Speaker 3: and purposes, it's pretty, it's cute, it's sexy, but it's
- 7:44Speaker 3: actually nine wins in my book. But the bar was
- 7:47Speaker 3: raised to, well, we just want to win, and our
- 7:50Speaker 3: fan base says, we just want to win, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 3: ten games every now and then we want to you
- 7:56Speaker 3: want to Here's the two things, man, we want to
- 7:59Speaker 3: sniff the SEC championship game, and we want to at
- 8:05Speaker 3: least win ten games every now and then.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I don't know what every now and then they are.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Expecting, but three times and three it might be four
- 8:17Speaker 3: now I think it's still three, three or four. It's
- 8:19Speaker 3: three or four times in the history of the program
- 8:22Speaker 3: have we won ten games. And that's to be an expectation.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Will Stein is stepping his feet into some big shoes.
- 8:28Speaker 3: They may be size fifteens. I don't know what side
- 8:31Speaker 3: shoes he's stepping into. But I like the little I
- 8:35Speaker 3: like the Little Jokers energy. I mean he's a small guy,
- 8:37Speaker 3: man young. I like his energy, and he this type
- 8:40Speaker 3: of person you can hit up side the head a
- 8:42Speaker 3: few times. He's gonna bounce back and figure it out.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So I'm here for it, man, I'm here for it.
- 8:47Speaker 3: So when you got the national pundit saying the bottom
- 8:50Speaker 3: of the conference and you got Van Hile saying, well,
- 8:53Speaker 3: I can see why they say that because we have
- 8:55Speaker 3: nothing returning. I'm on the other back end thinking what
- 8:59Speaker 3: is Big Blue Nation? Thinking like, where where do we
- 9:03Speaker 3: go from here? You know, we could wake up and
- 9:06Speaker 3: get seven eight games. Now, you know, Mark Stuke's last
- 9:09Speaker 3: two years wasn't where we want to be, but it
- 9:12Speaker 3: was it was decent enough. And now every national pund is,
- 9:15Speaker 3: even van Os was like, well bottom third.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Of the SEC.
- 9:20Speaker 3: National punds say the uh the basement of the SEC. Yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 3: you you just said something. It's four times in school
- 9:31Speaker 3: history with one double digit games, and two of them
- 9:33Speaker 3: is by Stoops. The other two was in the seventies
- 9:37Speaker 3: and the fifties, and one of those seventies was because
- 9:40Speaker 3: apparently we were cheating.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So do you cout that? No, it's I want I'm
- 9:50Speaker 2: an engineer and I'm.
- 9:51Speaker 3: A math guy, and it's very simple math for me.
- 9:57Speaker 3: You got three non conference games, one of is those
- 10:01Speaker 3: hated red red Birds out West into non conference games.
- 10:07Speaker 3: If you win those, that's three. We have six No,
- 10:10Speaker 3: I mean no non non conference games. You have to
- 10:14Speaker 3: win six of them. That means you gotta be six
- 10:16Speaker 3: and three. That means you gotta be over five hundred.
- 10:19Speaker 3: How many times have we been over five hundred in
- 10:21Speaker 3: school history?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Are you you are?
- 10:25Speaker 3: Realistically, if you are a gambler, which I am not,
- 10:30Speaker 3: I have I have come off that that perch a
- 10:32Speaker 3: long time ago. But if you are a gambling man,
- 10:36Speaker 3: you you go by the odds. In the history, the
- 10:40Speaker 3: history of us to win in six games is not
- 10:42Speaker 3: very high. So if we are going six games, if
- 10:47Speaker 3: we win three, the greatest season we can have is
- 10:50Speaker 3: nine right now, right, nine regular season games. Again, right,
- 10:55Speaker 3: if you expecting us to go seven to two in
- 10:57Speaker 3: all in sec you're asking a lot the great teams
- 11:01Speaker 3: in that secs, I'll go seven and two. Most of
- 11:03Speaker 3: the time you have one or two teams. There's only
- 11:06Speaker 3: it's only possible to be one or two tas right.
- 11:08Speaker 3: That's so, here's the deal. Will Stein can usher. It's
- 11:16Speaker 3: like to have money. Deal, right, will Stein can usher
- 11:20Speaker 3: in some excitement and into the program. With the offensive
- 11:24Speaker 3: side of the ball, we have not had a good offense.
- 11:27Speaker 3: We have not had an average offense but one time
- 11:31Speaker 3: in the Stoops twelve plus years of coaching, and that
- 11:35Speaker 3: was Lim Cohen year.
- 11:38Speaker 2: That's it. We've only had one above.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Average offense in all those years, and that is whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 11:46Speaker 3: what's that. I'm gonna let you get back to that.
- 11:48Speaker 3: But that Terry Wilson offense that went down in Florida
- 11:51Speaker 3: Terry and Lim Bowl and them Benny. That just that
- 11:58Speaker 3: just proved a lot. When you reference just one game, youence, no, no, no,
- 12:04Speaker 3: they did a lot of things. Are you talking about? Okay,
- 12:08Speaker 3: all right, it's the same thing we talked about, y'all.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Stay with the blue Bloods. There's there is a definition
- 12:14Speaker 3: that that might be need to be hashed out for
- 12:18Speaker 3: me and average offense, you gotta scored thirty points a game?
- 12:22Speaker 2: What average?
- 12:24Speaker 3: You gotta scored thirty point average? That's an average offensive.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That's that's a lot of points.
- 12:29Speaker 4: That's a lot of points that win you about nine
- 12:31Speaker 4: ten games.
- 12:35Speaker 3: But you call that average, man, Yeah, call them thirty
- 12:38Speaker 3: points average. You are turning your nose up at thirty points.
- 12:43Speaker 3: How many points did Tennessee average when in Haipel's first
- 12:48Speaker 3: year with he Hooker, it's gotta be close to forty.
- 12:52Speaker 2: We average forty exactly. That was not average. Our quarterback
- 12:58Speaker 2: got drafted first overall.
- 13:00Speaker 3: So if forty is elite, thirty four, thirty three, thirty two,
- 13:09Speaker 3: comel on man, eighteen.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I give you eighteen. I give you eighteen on no
- 13:13Speaker 2: freaking points.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Now, the defense got a whole teams to fifteen and
- 13:17Speaker 3: seventeen points a game, Get off of it. The whole
- 13:21Speaker 3: league is offensive. Rig We can't hit you, we can't
- 13:25Speaker 3: cut you. The quarterback, if you roll on his legs,
- 13:29Speaker 3: fifteen yard penalty. If you hit him high, it's fifteen
- 13:33Speaker 3: yard penalty. If you push him our bounds up, it's
- 13:37Speaker 3: if it's pinky toe, it's on the white and you
- 13:41Speaker 3: just chuckle our bounds it's fifty yards and you might
- 13:45Speaker 3: get ejected.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I could get acted.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I would have not played an entire year at Kentucky
- 13:50Speaker 3: with these current rules.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I would have been either concussed or ejected. The league,
- 14:00Speaker 2: Now were made for you about planning points? Is asking
- 14:05Speaker 2: too much from an office? Did you have change it?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Rules were made for you, man, Rules were made for you.
- 14:13Speaker 3: You ain't tom brady tuk rule. The rule for not
- 14:16Speaker 3: the quarterback was tom Brady you not being able to
- 14:19Speaker 3: hit people with your head. Leave what your head was
- 14:21Speaker 3: for you?
- 14:24Speaker 2: All right?
- 14:24Speaker 3: I change it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I've change it. I'll change it. Let's low twenty eight
- 14:27Speaker 2: point nine points? The game is average? Is that bad?
- 14:31Speaker 2: I said thirty? Is it the three that makes it
- 14:33Speaker 2: a god? That's a twenty eight? Twenty eight point nine
- 14:37Speaker 2: to five? How is that.
- 14:39Speaker 3: No, No, that's a touchdown a quarter, which shouldn't happen,
- 14:43Speaker 3: and from a defensive guy, from a defensive guy.
- 14:46Speaker 2: So you you averaging giving up a touchdown per quarter.
- 14:49Speaker 3: I've been hey, all right, Matt, I know we we
- 14:52Speaker 3: exclude you from this conversation. Man, would you be comfortable
- 14:55Speaker 3: with me saying eighteen to twenty one points?
- 14:58Speaker 4: I think eighteen to twenty one points would be a
- 15:01Speaker 4: I wouldn't say it's a great offense. I would put
- 15:03Speaker 4: that as round average average. And I want to say
- 15:07Speaker 4: this because look, I'm as a little fan. For the
- 15:10Speaker 4: last two years under Jeff Brown, the last two seasons,
- 15:13Speaker 4: they averaged twenty almost twenty four points a game, and
- 15:18Speaker 4: Tyler Schuck was basically their entire offense last season. This
- 15:21Speaker 4: season they did that with Miller Moss probably one of
- 15:23Speaker 4: the more average looking offenses. Isaac Brown had a horrible season.
- 15:26Speaker 4: The offensive line had a horrible season. Like if you
- 15:31Speaker 4: if you're if you watched any of their games this
- 15:33Speaker 4: past season, you would say that is a very average offense.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And they're averaging twenty one to twenty four.
- 15:40Speaker 2: All right, we're looking at I'm looking at the stats.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Will We're gonna take a break.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Man.
- 15:45Speaker 3: We're gonna reset because I want you to get your
- 15:47Speaker 3: stats together. Man from a defensive guy thinking like thirty
- 15:50Speaker 3: points is average, No wonder who we all only won
- 15:54Speaker 3: one game. We'll be back after this. This is just
- 15:57Speaker 3: a Catz radio. We'll be back after this break. I
- 16:01Speaker 3: can begin to knowing that I know it's grew and strong.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Touching half.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Welcome back, just half radios any White and Van House
- 16:23Speaker 3: up to locker cong in for Michael Bennett. Well, he's
- 16:26Speaker 3: out handling his duties. You can catch up Van Housing.
- 16:31Speaker 3: If you like the benter and the camaraderie. You could
- 16:35Speaker 3: catch us every Wednesday night from nine pm to ten
- 16:38Speaker 3: pm Eastern Standard Zone at the one uh the Locker
- 16:42Speaker 3: four one, the Locker four one one on all social
- 16:45Speaker 3: media platforms. If you want to join this show and
- 16:47Speaker 3: give us a call, you can join us at five
- 16:49Speaker 3: zero two three eight four fourteen fifty or you can
- 16:53Speaker 3: text us at four A five zero two four one
- 16:57Speaker 3: four fourteen fifty. Were having lively just ussion about why
- 17:01Speaker 3: the National people has our Kentucky, our beloved Kentucky has
- 17:06Speaker 3: ranked sixteenth in the SEC and uh, why Van House
- 17:11Speaker 3: thinks that the offense should score thirty plus points just
- 17:16Speaker 3: in general. But then what if we took a break,
- 17:19Speaker 3: you had got a chance to break down some numbers.
- 17:21Speaker 3: You still you're standing on your island. I'm standing even strong.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I'm looking at sec scoring offense. Last year, ten of
- 17:31Speaker 3: the sixteen team scored twenty nine or more points, nine
- 17:37Speaker 3: and a half a more point ten, ten. So if
- 17:40Speaker 3: we have if you want to get in a top
- 17:43Speaker 3: ten of the conference, your defense gotta be a juggernaut.
- 17:50Speaker 5: They they gotta be that that that old school was
- 17:54Speaker 5: that eighty five Bears defense, that two thousand and one
- 17:58Speaker 5: Ravens defense, that that that that Buccaneers.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Deep like you gotta be that Miami the University of
- 18:05Speaker 3: Miami defense back in the day.
- 18:07Speaker 2: If you can't score, acting we at And this is
- 18:10Speaker 2: the way I got wrong. I'm wrong, y'all. I'm I
- 18:13Speaker 2: When I'm wrong.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I would have I would have bet the house, my
- 18:18Speaker 3: marriage license, my kids, my everything that we didn't average
- 18:22Speaker 3: over twenty points a game.
- 18:26Speaker 2: And I would have and I would have been homeless
- 18:28Speaker 2: on on.
- 18:29Speaker 3: The on on the river on the river road of
- 18:32Speaker 3: Louisiana going to LSU because we average twenty three points
- 18:35Speaker 3: a game. Yeah, twenty three points a game ain't gonna
- 18:38Speaker 3: cut it. We're talking about twenty four.
- 18:44Speaker 2: One. The four points ain't gonna cut it. Man. If
- 18:49Speaker 2: you know.
- 18:51Speaker 3: You know right now with with the only thing that's
- 18:55Speaker 3: hurting offense now is is the clock doesn't stop stop
- 18:59Speaker 3: every time where y'all can get one hundred and fifty
- 19:01Speaker 3: plays off every game because the freaking clock stops every
- 19:05Speaker 3: time they around the bounce. That's the only thing that's
- 19:07Speaker 3: hurting offense right now, namely another rule that DNC double
- 19:11Speaker 3: ass passed that it's her offense and health defense. Besides that,
- 19:15Speaker 3: y'all have all the carrots. And if you saying, Anthony,
- 19:19Speaker 3: if you saying that will Stein can't get this offense
- 19:22Speaker 3: up to about twenty nine points a game, I'm gonna
- 19:25Speaker 3: put this out.
- 19:25Speaker 2: This is hot take. If will Stein this year.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Can't get this offense to twenty eight and a half
- 19:32Speaker 3: more points a game.
- 19:33Speaker 2: That's a fell season. I ain't I'm not mad at that.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I'm not mad at that.
- 19:40Speaker 3: As an offensive guru, he should he should feel that way.
- 19:44Speaker 3: He should feel that way. If you can't get a
- 19:45Speaker 3: touchdown every quarter, if you can't find some way to
- 19:48Speaker 3: get a touchdown every quarter, and your offense of Guru,
- 19:51Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Why you and Matt format you know that?
- 19:54Speaker 3: Know that mean where where they got the red and
- 19:56Speaker 3: the blue flag? And they and they both hold up?
- 20:00Speaker 3: Why do you form that coalition with Matt over my point?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Then when I said twenty eight and a half, now
- 20:05Speaker 3: you're like, oh, yes, that's.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, right, I can roll with that because that
- 20:09Speaker 1: might that might be your goal.
- 20:11Speaker 4: But to consistently put up thirty plus points a game,
- 20:14Speaker 4: that would like, that's a top ten offense in the country,
- 20:17Speaker 4: and you have to stop other squeeze from scoring that
- 20:19Speaker 4: many points. So to be successful, you probably need a
- 20:21Speaker 4: top fifteen defense in the country. So I mean, like, yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 4: that should be your goal. If you're Will Stein, I'm
- 20:27Speaker 4: not expecting him to go out there and watch Kentucky
- 20:30Speaker 4: play against Georgia or Alabama or Tennessee and be like, well,
- 20:34Speaker 4: we're gonna expect at least thirty five out of these
- 20:36Speaker 4: guys today.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Well that's why I rolled with the average. We should
- 20:42Speaker 2: roll up sixty two on Louisville. We should roll up
- 20:46Speaker 2: about seventy.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Something, sixty two, sixty, Hey, we.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Should roll up Anthony. When y'all face Louis for the
- 20:53Speaker 3: first time and had Ray I'm going to post y'all,
- 20:56Speaker 3: y'all wrapped up on the board.
- 21:00Speaker 2: It was fifty or sixty.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You gotta try to get points back from the last
- 21:05Speaker 1: two seasons. That what we're doing.
- 21:10Speaker 3: No, no, Van Van here, here's the thing that you
- 21:14Speaker 3: that you're not what you said. But you don't realize
- 21:16Speaker 3: you just said. We already said one of the greatest
- 21:20Speaker 3: offensive minds in the country, and you're talking about if
- 21:23Speaker 3: he can't get twenty eight. I gave you credit for
- 21:26Speaker 3: that because he's the greatest offensive mind in the country.
- 21:30Speaker 2: My point is.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Everybody can't just wake up and get you now right.
- 21:36Speaker 3: I don't know what ran they gonna do with our
- 21:37Speaker 3: Brian Hartline, who knows. But my point is the comment
- 21:42Speaker 3: you made that you called me out to act like
- 21:44Speaker 3: I'm aligning with Matt over there. Point was you we
- 21:49Speaker 3: are talking about one.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Line so bad?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Was lining with me so bad?
- 21:55Speaker 2: I mean, like I say, you a neat guy.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'm taking over here for no reason. I'm just.
- 22:01Speaker 2: You a neat guy.
- 22:02Speaker 3: But man, we're talking about the greatest So basically, put
- 22:05Speaker 3: like this, a twenty would anybody get excited about a
- 22:11Speaker 3: twenty five point game from Mike Kobe Durant, whoa Mike
- 22:16Speaker 3: scored twenty five?
- 22:19Speaker 2: No, Mike gonna wake up and score twenty five.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I mean all you want to do teams even to
- 22:24Speaker 3: beat them, teams like, look, we'll give Mike forty, but
- 22:27Speaker 3: we gotta keep everybody else down. So when you saying, well,
- 22:31Speaker 3: this team, I'm with you. This team should score twenty
- 22:33Speaker 3: eight or thirty points. If willis, he should be able
- 22:36Speaker 3: to score. He should be able to manufacture a touchdown
- 22:38Speaker 3: every quarter, every fifteen minutes of play. He should be
- 22:42Speaker 3: able to get.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Us a touchdown.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Now not No, I agree with that, But you're saying
- 22:46Speaker 3: across the country, there's only several. You got Lane Kiffin,
- 22:51Speaker 3: you got, you got Stein. Uh, I don't know. Like
- 22:58Speaker 3: I said, Ryan Day, I mean Ohio State. Now they
- 23:01Speaker 3: are they're a wide receiver. You so you can't keep
- 23:03Speaker 3: them out of the quation. The plus, they ain't paying
- 23:05Speaker 3: none but suckers every week. But I don't know, so
- 23:10Speaker 3: her I'm again, I'm a numbers guy. I'm just looking
- 23:12Speaker 3: at the history. Right, the top team in NCAA, the
- 23:17Speaker 3: top three team to the three teams averages over forty points. Again,
- 23:21Speaker 3: the top two to three teams, the top five teams.
- 23:23Speaker 2: In the country.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Those are what I would call you're elite, maybe the
- 23:26Speaker 3: top ten. I'll give you a top team in the
- 23:29Speaker 3: history of the last few years of college football. Thirty
- 23:32Speaker 3: points has been get you fiftieth ranked offense in the
- 23:36Speaker 3: in the nation. I don't think we hired Will Stein
- 23:42Speaker 3: to come here and not be one of the top
- 23:44Speaker 3: fifty offenses in the nation. You don't hire one of
- 23:46Speaker 3: the best offensive minds. You don't go from being you
- 23:51Speaker 3: don't fire your best coaching school history. Who's offense was
- 23:55Speaker 3: probably bottom I would say eightieth or that best, probably
- 24:00Speaker 3: maybe seventy fifth at best, right at best, the best
- 24:05Speaker 3: year Lim Cohen with Will Levis, they probably was. I
- 24:08Speaker 3: can go back, what was that twenty twenty one, twenty
- 24:11Speaker 3: twenty one.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I'll find it, maybe sixty.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I think we stayed about sixty ish sixties offense, around
- 24:22Speaker 3: ninety sixty. It's like Anthony when we talked about yesterday
- 24:27Speaker 3: on this show, right about expectation of records, actually a
- 24:32Speaker 3: thirty six that year and we are as thirty two
- 24:34Speaker 3: points a game.
- 24:37Speaker 2: If that's a.
- 24:39Speaker 3: None double it now, Liam Cohen avers thirty two points
- 24:47Speaker 3: a game. We're gonna really be satisfied with as you
- 24:53Speaker 3: and you and the the anti christ k Kentucky guy
- 24:58Speaker 3: or what that, Matt who don't like Kentucky football? Why
- 25:01Speaker 3: you jumped on your side after with that twenty point
- 25:06Speaker 3: If you can't average well the best offense of Mark
- 25:11Speaker 3: stups with thirty two points a game, you are selling
- 25:17Speaker 3: yourself short.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Man.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Man, you got I don't know, I don't know what
- 25:23Speaker 3: you are. You woke up on the wrong side. What's
- 25:24Speaker 3: in your coffee?
- 25:25Speaker 2: You got that?
- 25:25Speaker 3: Uh what they called mushroom. The mushroom coffee stuff is
- 25:28Speaker 3: supposed to help your body, help your livery levels and
- 25:31Speaker 3: things like that. What is it called Together Rise is
- 25:36Speaker 3: the name the brand has been circulating. But that mushroom
- 25:40Speaker 3: coffee stuff is supposed to get you right. But you see,
- 25:45Speaker 3: if you keep you you continue to point out anomalies
- 25:49Speaker 3: like the best years of this, the best years of that,
- 25:52Speaker 3: you call that, the you called that, you called that
- 25:55Speaker 3: the I guess the baseline like that's you know, homeo stasis,
- 25:58Speaker 3: like that's where that's where we live at. No, you're
- 26:00Speaker 3: picking out the best years and saying, well, if we
- 26:03Speaker 3: did this, then we should be able to do. That's
- 26:05Speaker 3: that's not true.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Now, mind you.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I do realize you comparing the offensive production of Will Stein, Yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 3: and Will Stern and Joe Sloan, those guys should put
- 26:18Speaker 3: up thirty at some point. That's not averaging in the
- 26:22Speaker 3: history of Kentucky football if you look back far enough,
- 26:26Speaker 3: that's not every points is not an average. That's all
- 26:29Speaker 3: I'm asking. Look, when is the last time we up
- 26:35Speaker 3: brought in an offensive coordinator, no, a head coach that's
- 26:40Speaker 3: offensive oriented, that that has the the cache that Will has.
- 26:47Speaker 3: How MoMA didn't even have it if you think about it, right,
- 26:52Speaker 3: How Maman didn't even have this this resume. You are
- 26:57Speaker 3: the best offensive mine to we ever coach at Kentucky
- 27:01Speaker 3: at least. Look, I don't know Kentucky since ninety two,
- 27:04Speaker 3: so don't rip me anew it. If that's something happened
- 27:08Speaker 3: in seventy seven with coach Clayborners, I don't know. But
- 27:12Speaker 3: in the nineties, since the nineties, this is the best
- 27:16Speaker 3: offensive mine we have ever had as a head coach resume.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Wise, Okay, then let me ask you both this question.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I understand what like, that's what you want to average,
- 27:27Speaker 4: and that's where you want to be and under Gaalik
- 27:29Speaker 4: will Stein, who's done it at the highest level, who's
- 27:31Speaker 4: done it in the playoff and you've seen him have
- 27:33Speaker 4: success with quarterbacks. With the offense, he's has his hands
- 27:35Speaker 4: all over it. Is there a little bit of you
- 27:39Speaker 4: that maybe would backtrack that a little bit because of
- 27:43Speaker 4: the fact that he's not calling his own plays, that
- 27:45Speaker 4: he has an offensive coordinator running the offense this season
- 27:47Speaker 4: and it's not him, Like, yes, he will have his
- 27:50Speaker 4: hands on it, because he's an offensive mind of guy,
- 27:52Speaker 4: but he's technically not the play caller.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I don't think. I don't now that is.
- 28:02Speaker 3: He brings up an interesting point, and I was gonna say, no,
- 28:05Speaker 3: I don't think it'd be. I think it's the collaboration
- 28:07Speaker 3: because if if the offensive coordinator and the head coach
- 28:10Speaker 3: are standing next to each other the same way you
- 28:12Speaker 3: gave we as Big Bue Nation, you can't give Mark
- 28:15Speaker 3: Steus's credit for Steamy and our offensive coordinators. Now, Joe,
- 28:18Speaker 3: now you got you got will And I do know this,
- 28:21Speaker 3: and Van and I have talked about this on our
- 28:23Speaker 3: on our podcast and the locker, Uh Sunny Dykes, Mike Leach,
- 28:29Speaker 3: all these people were underneath.
- 28:31Speaker 2: How Mummy?
- 28:33Speaker 3: So everybody said, hey, money, mummy is the only one
- 28:36Speaker 3: of Tony Franklin. How mummy is the only one out
- 28:39Speaker 3: of that group who was the head coach. And I
- 28:42Speaker 3: believe that Mike Leach was an engineer of the air
- 28:46Speaker 3: raid offense, but how mommy got all the credit for it.
- 28:49Speaker 3: But how mummy was the only one who never prospered
- 28:51Speaker 3: from the air raid. Like I said, I'm ana named
- 28:53Speaker 3: Sunny Dikes, Mike Leach, Tony Franklin. Uh, what's what's happening?
- 29:01Speaker 3: I mean, he didn't get to the higher level like
- 29:03Speaker 3: everybody else, but he was. He was a head coach
- 29:05Speaker 3: in his twenties.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I believe.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I've said this many times on in many different scenarios,
- 29:13Speaker 3: of many different platforms. I think the greatest injustice a
- 29:20Speaker 3: coordinator can do when they become head coach is not
- 29:24Speaker 3: call plays on Saturdays for at least the first couple
- 29:27Speaker 3: of years. The only reason you're in this spot is
- 29:30Speaker 3: because you were a great play caller, But the only
- 29:33Speaker 3: reason you are the head coach at your next destination
- 29:36Speaker 3: is because you were an unbelievable play call So now,
- 29:40Speaker 3: why would I take away my strength and give it
- 29:44Speaker 3: to somebody else whom doesn't see the game like you.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I don't care how good Joe Slanza is a really
- 29:51Speaker 3: good offensive mine, but it is a skill set that's undervaluable.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Ability to look at your play card, call a play
- 30:00Speaker 3: and while the play is going on, you don't see
- 30:03Speaker 3: the result. You're looking at your next play right now,
- 30:06Speaker 3: You're not thinking about, Okay, what has on? Okay? All
- 30:10Speaker 3: those three players. I want to run that. That's a
- 30:12Speaker 3: skill set that's underrated. And if will Stein gives that up,
- 30:16Speaker 3: which I don't think he will, I think he's gonna
- 30:19Speaker 3: call players on Saturday. I think Joe Sloan's gonna be
- 30:21Speaker 3: the coordinator who creates the organization and get everything done
- 30:25Speaker 3: Monday through Friday. But I hope, I hope will Stein
- 30:29Speaker 3: calls players on Saturday. If he doesn't, this is a
- 30:33Speaker 3: bad comparison. But the first thing it comes to mind
- 30:36Speaker 3: for me in UK history is Joker Phillips was a
- 30:40Speaker 3: really good offen the coordinator, and when he became the
- 30:43Speaker 3: head coach, he gave up that that that responsibility, and
- 30:47Speaker 3: that offense never got to where it was when he
- 30:50Speaker 3: was calling plays. I I know, well, will Stein might
- 30:56Speaker 3: listen to this show. If William stein Or is mom
- 31:00Speaker 3: us listen to this show, inform him that please call
- 31:04Speaker 3: players on Saturday, because that is his strong suit.
- 31:08Speaker 2: In two years, then he can give it up to
- 31:10Speaker 2: Joe Sloan if he wants to.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I thought he already gave it up. I thought he
- 31:13Speaker 1: already said he wasn't thought I could.
- 31:17Speaker 4: I could be wrong, but I thought he came out
- 31:18Speaker 4: and said that he's just gonna be doing the head
- 31:20Speaker 4: coach duties.
- 31:22Speaker 3: I think that's that's look the way we got the
- 31:26Speaker 3: guy Bateman is this. Guess what kind of coach Mike
- 31:31Speaker 3: Elko is. He's a defensive coordinator, He's a defensive mind.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Guess who took over the defensive player calling that season?
- 31:41Speaker 3: Mike Elko because that's his strong suit.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I just don't.
- 31:47Speaker 3: With the amount of support you get from an amount
- 31:51Speaker 3: of coach you can hire, go on, man, let's let's
- 31:56Speaker 3: let's hand the responsibilities and v y'all responsibility everybody else
- 31:59Speaker 3: so so you can do your you're the thing, your
- 32:02Speaker 3: best at man.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I do want to point out for you go to break.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Randy Sanders did bring Tennessee a national championship with Team
- 32:09Speaker 3: Martin at quarterback and that championship, so he didn't coaches
- 32:16Speaker 3: Peyton Mannig as well. But and we will continue more
- 32:19Speaker 3: of this conversation when we come back. You're listen Just
- 32:22Speaker 3: Cats Radio. Welcome back Just Cats Radio along with Anthony
- 32:46Speaker 3: White and Van House of the Locker on Wednesday nights,
- 32:51Speaker 3: filling in for Michael Bennett, who's out taking care of business.
- 32:54Speaker 3: We are gonna try to do the best we can
- 32:56Speaker 3: to fill some very big shoes. And we got Matt
- 33:00Speaker 3: So also chiming in heavy soft and he's a littlevil fan,
- 33:03Speaker 3: So cut him some slack and uh, we're gonna, you know,
- 33:06Speaker 3: let him join the conversation. If you like to join
- 33:08Speaker 3: the conversation, calls five zero two three eight four fourteen fifty,
- 33:13Speaker 3: or you can text us at five zero two four
- 33:15Speaker 3: to one four fourteen fifty. Ben Howes, we did get
- 33:18Speaker 3: a text, well, we got text yesterday. I didn't know
- 33:20Speaker 3: how to work this machine. Matt then groom me very
- 33:23Speaker 3: well on how to read the machine.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Paul.
- 33:25Speaker 3: But geez John tweeted in. He said, man, let's get
- 33:31Speaker 3: he want to get to the football. He's ready, he said,
- 33:35Speaker 3: everything's coming up. You know, we got new coaches, new
- 33:38Speaker 3: athletic director. He said seven wins for football. So there's
- 33:41Speaker 3: people who have us ranked six sixteenth in the SEC.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Will seven wins, seven wins, you you definitely couldn't be
- 33:49Speaker 3: sixteenth and s right, you definitely can. If you went seven,
- 33:55Speaker 3: of course you're going to be little. Of course that's
- 33:56Speaker 3: gonna happen. So that means you got three conference. That
- 33:59Speaker 3: means you four and five in conference. So you four
- 34:01Speaker 3: and five conference. Definitely in the middle, you're probably eight nine,
- 34:08Speaker 3: eight nine, ten, probably okay, which is not That's where
- 34:12Speaker 3: we've lived. Yeah, that's not that you see, Hey, a
- 34:17Speaker 3: first year, if we win seven, Look if if will
- 34:21Speaker 3: Stein goes seven wins, I'm gonna be happy with that.
- 34:28Speaker 3: With non conference games for the first time in school history.
- 34:32Speaker 3: That means you gotta win four the most we we really.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Win for how many times we win four in the history,
- 34:38Speaker 2: six times, six something like that, seven times? It ain't many.
- 34:42Speaker 3: So he wins four games in conference and I'm looking
- 34:46Speaker 3: at the schedule, I'm four gonna be now. I would
- 34:52Speaker 3: say this as some of the fans that followed me
- 34:56Speaker 3: in on Twitter talking about we're gonna be Alabama, and
- 34:59Speaker 3: we Alabama.
- 35:01Speaker 2: September twelfth, at two thirty pm.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Oh, I guess two thirty my time, three thirty pm
- 35:06Speaker 3: Eastern Standard time. I will proclaim we will win five
- 35:12Speaker 3: conference games. You don't get to you don't get to Cashe,
- 35:15Speaker 3: you don't get to just move the gold post.
- 35:18Speaker 2: I'm Austin man. You can't just move the gold post
- 35:21Speaker 2: when you feel like, hey, I've been married twenty six years.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yesterday, Van Houses, not today, Van House, so September eleventh,
- 35:31Speaker 3: Van Houses not September twelfth, Van House. If you pull
- 35:34Speaker 3: off this victory, if we pull out an Alabama victor, dude,
- 35:38Speaker 3: it's there's no reason why we can't be South Carolina.
- 35:41Speaker 3: There be Vanderbilt, Florida, Missouri. Like, come on, if we
- 35:47Speaker 3: beat Alabama at home, I can see us winning for
- 35:51Speaker 3: a five conference game. Van House. I want people to
- 35:56Speaker 3: be realistic. I want us to be realistic. And that's
- 35:59Speaker 3: what this is what we came for. We we try
- 36:00Speaker 3: to come and bring realisticity. But I like that if
- 36:05Speaker 3: we want to be completely honest. So, and it's seven
- 36:09Speaker 3: wins to me, it's fine, that's four wins, man. I'm
- 36:11Speaker 3: gonna break something down to you. Under Bear Bryant, we
- 36:16Speaker 3: have four wins, two three, times under Blank Collier, we
- 36:25Speaker 3: have four wins or more two times Bradshaw we had
- 36:33Speaker 3: in conference in conference, but the conference has changed, you know.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I mean back in the sixties and fifty it wasn't
- 36:41Speaker 3: the same people. Under Bradshaw, we have four wins one time.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Now we're getting to where everybody's familiarity with soy Kursey.
- 36:52Speaker 3: We have four wins two times, four wins season, six
- 36:57Speaker 3: wins season Clayborn.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Now, now, now man, not a ah your boy, y'all? Okay?
- 37:08Speaker 3: Yes, ninety three four under under Bill carry year Carrier.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Now mind you how mommy won four and four twice
- 37:18Speaker 3: in a four year span. Everybody else had like seven
- 37:21Speaker 3: eight years or better. Now mind you, yours truly was
- 37:25Speaker 3: part of those those five hundred seasons in SEC rich
- 37:31Speaker 3: Brooks had, Now the goat rich Brooks dude had one
- 37:38Speaker 3: had one four hundred or.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Five hundred four win season.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Now, joker, come on, come on, come on, come on,
- 37:46Speaker 3: let's let's let's get to now Stoops one, two, three, four, five,
- 37:53Speaker 3: four or more five win seasons in.
- 37:55Speaker 2: His tenurear career here eleven you want to count it?
- 38:01Speaker 3: So when so your expectation is we add another SEC game.
- 38:09Speaker 3: So for us to get seven wins, man, we gotta
- 38:12Speaker 3: do something that only the last coach did it frequently.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Nobody else has done it. Everybody else might get one
- 38:19Speaker 3: or two of them.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Boys in Now, now you got me confused.
- 38:24Speaker 3: You just said that we're gonna beat Alabama because you know,
- 38:28Speaker 3: if you're gonna ask.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Anybody will know how to be Alabama.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Now you're gonna buy track and say, well, man, you
- 38:35Speaker 3: know we are gonna be hard. Well if you be Alabama. Man,
- 38:40Speaker 3: hold on, I also told you how mommy went five
- 38:44Speaker 3: hundred to sec twice my junior year and my senior year. Now,
- 38:48Speaker 3: hold on, hold on, hold on, man, listen, listen, please listen.
- 38:52Speaker 3: You do realize my senior year, Craig East and Tim
- 38:56Speaker 3: Couch was not there.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Go ahead, continue then, my friend.
- 39:01Speaker 3: So now remember when you was on offense, then you
- 39:06Speaker 3: came to defense. Now you're backpelling. Now you've got those
- 39:11Speaker 3: tempos all and you in that good stance here, Jeff,
- 39:14Speaker 3: the hips.
- 39:15Speaker 2: It's like being a knee you backpelling.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Now, all I'm saying is this, if we beat Alabama
- 39:23Speaker 3: and the same Alabama team that just went to the
- 39:27Speaker 3: playoffs a year before, Yes, they lost a quarterback. Yes,
- 39:30Speaker 3: but it's Alabama. If we beat Alabama problems as well.
- 39:36Speaker 3: If we beat Alabama week two, are you are you
- 39:41Speaker 3: telling me that that goal post won't come down?
- 39:45Speaker 2: That'll be the.
- 39:46Speaker 3: First time jay back gets a goal post in his
- 39:48Speaker 3: front yard. If we know where he lives, because he
- 39:52Speaker 3: might be he might have been an apartment.
- 39:54Speaker 2: He might be in a Marriott downtown.
- 39:57Speaker 3: Well, we know you may not have a spot yet,
- 39:59Speaker 3: right if we need them, you tell me the excitement
- 40:06Speaker 3: on you clid and rolls is not gonna be at
- 40:09Speaker 3: a at a at a level that everybody's not gonna
- 40:13Speaker 3: be saying we're gonna win five games in conference. Oh yes,
- 40:18Speaker 3: absolutely will be if you be out at a couch
- 40:21Speaker 3: taken burn.
- 40:22Speaker 2: I got a couch snaking burn in my garage right now.
- 40:25Speaker 3: If we be Alabama week two, Anthony, the expectation is
- 40:29Speaker 3: fire winning the conference. That's expectation. I'm not saying it's
- 40:35Speaker 3: gonna Anthony, like the bird's gonna be at that if
- 40:38Speaker 3: we beat out a babble watch stop there, hey, in
- 40:41Speaker 3: your and your thing, I'm trying to pull up your
- 40:44Speaker 3: thing that you sent me yesterday, that you sent to
- 40:47Speaker 3: everybody now everybody all all the tizzy. You should have
- 40:52Speaker 3: just dude, you know, you could probably DM me this stuff.
- 40:55Speaker 3: So everybody's gonna get all all all messed up over this.
- 41:00Speaker 2: The lockers sent it to you. Alabama's ranked fifth in
- 41:04Speaker 2: the conference.
- 41:05Speaker 3: In that ranking, if you be a top five team
- 41:09Speaker 3: in the conference week two, the only other teams that
- 41:13Speaker 3: above them that we play is texting and them and lash.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Everybody else we play is below them. Accord to this guy,
- 41:22Speaker 3: we don't even know it's a guy. Accord to this
- 41:24Speaker 3: individual's sec country. We don't know if it's a bout
- 41:28Speaker 3: or not a part of this individual, this robot. All
- 41:32Speaker 3: the teams after Alabama, the majority of those teams are
- 41:35Speaker 3: ranked under them. If we beat Alabama, we jumped them.
- 41:39Speaker 3: The next Pallar ratings. The next week, we will be
- 41:41Speaker 3: top five.
- 41:43Speaker 2: And you tell me that.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Now, hey man, in school history, you only win three
- 41:48Speaker 3: to four games in conference.
- 41:50Speaker 2: So settle down. Settle down. People say, we don't know, you're.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Gonna be loud and proud. We're gonna win five dames
- 41:58Speaker 3: in conference, That's all I'm saying. I'm sure some people
- 42:02Speaker 3: gonna say we've been texting. In the next week, and
- 42:04Speaker 3: we be at Oh, we're gonna be texting at them
- 42:06Speaker 3: the next week. We should So why does LSU get
- 42:10Speaker 3: a chance to sit a book? They got a brand
- 42:12Speaker 3: new head coach. Why do they get the opportunity to
- 42:15Speaker 3: sit on high and look down low in your stance?
- 42:19Speaker 3: Now I understand you from baton rouge or whatever, but
- 42:22Speaker 3: they got what we got ls U?
- 42:24Speaker 2: Uh fourth? They got fourth?
- 42:27Speaker 3: Yeah, why why do they get They got a new
- 42:30Speaker 3: head coach too. Florida has it well, Florida where they
- 42:34Speaker 3: got Florida Ring. That's an interesting point. They have Florida
- 42:38Speaker 3: Ring Tiff right in the middle of the pack. So
- 42:43Speaker 3: old Miss got a new coach, Florida got a new coach. Now,
- 42:45Speaker 3: mind you, Old Miss was in the playoffs as well
- 42:48Speaker 3: last year. You know you can give them that same
- 42:50Speaker 3: type of credit. But I don't know. You can't keep
- 42:54Speaker 3: moving the gold post man, even it's a guy's mentality.
- 42:57Speaker 3: So so acton are you saying we're gonna win game
- 43:00Speaker 3: this year? Because like you, I'm here.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I'm here, Matt, we gotta beat Alabama first. Here nine.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Look, I'm at a point where if I'm bringing in
- 43:12Speaker 4: a brand new head coach, you have a lot of
- 43:14Speaker 4: excitement behind the season. I feel like the whole Indiana
- 43:19Speaker 4: football experiment that's happened in the last two years with
- 43:21Speaker 4: Kurt Signetti has almost like rotted the brains of sports fans,
- 43:25Speaker 4: and every team is like, Okay, we got a new
- 43:27Speaker 4: head coach. We can do that, we can do that,
- 43:29Speaker 4: we can become a national champion in two seasons. And
- 43:32Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of us have to understand
- 43:34Speaker 4: that football is such a different sport and in ninety
- 43:37Speaker 4: nine percent of situations it takes more time for guys
- 43:40Speaker 4: to develop and get their system in play, especially in
- 43:42Speaker 4: a situation where Will Stein's coming to Kentucky, which you
- 43:45Speaker 4: guys have stated that historically hasn't been, you know, the
- 43:48Speaker 4: greatest of all program ever. You know, they've had good
- 43:51Speaker 4: seasons here and there. I think Will Stein's a great
- 43:53Speaker 4: head coach. But I am at the point where if
- 43:55Speaker 4: they did beat Alabama in that second game of the season,
- 43:57Speaker 4: it is the same game season, right, It's not yep, Okay,
- 44:00Speaker 4: if they.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Won that game, then yes, you are on this.
- 44:03Speaker 4: You are on the stature where I think you are
- 44:05Speaker 4: allowed to move that goalpost and say, now my expectations
- 44:09Speaker 4: are higher, but this is the same thing. This is
- 44:11Speaker 4: his first season in this regime as a head coach
- 44:15Speaker 4: in which he's not calling the plays, which, like Ban
- 44:17Speaker 4: mentioned earlier, that's what got him here was calling the plays, right, So,
- 44:20Speaker 4: like you're gonna see a situation where one, is he
- 44:24Speaker 4: gonna have his hands all over the offense and maybe
- 44:26Speaker 4: the AUFO defensive coordinator is gonna have less responsibilit than
- 44:28Speaker 4: me think, or is it two, he's taken over the
- 44:31Speaker 4: recruiting stuff. He's gonna be managing the team, and he's
- 44:33Speaker 4: gonna have almost no say in the offense. Like we
- 44:35Speaker 4: don't know what's gonna happen yet. So I'm interested to
- 44:38Speaker 4: see how the players develop and how his system kind
- 44:40Speaker 4: of evolves now that he has the helm of the
- 44:43Speaker 4: whole team. I would say for them right now in
- 44:48Speaker 4: my in my unbiased opinion, my full expectation of this
- 44:52Speaker 4: team is about four wins in conference. That would be
- 44:55Speaker 4: like my best possible scenario if they were to beat Alabama.
- 44:58Speaker 4: As a Luwell fan, I would genuinely say it like this,
- 45:01Speaker 4: this guy is the limit for this football team. You
- 45:03Speaker 4: know you're gonna rally behind that whole new coach fan
- 45:06Speaker 4: base is going to be behind them, I'd be excited
- 45:08Speaker 4: to see what they do. But I think it's okay
- 45:10Speaker 4: to move the goalpost ever game two if they want that.
- 45:14Speaker 3: I believe, And we got a head to a break
- 45:16Speaker 3: here in a second, but I believe if we beat Alabama,
- 45:21Speaker 3: I do think it sets an expectation because I think
- 45:25Speaker 3: with Will Stein, with Joe Sloan, those guys are going
- 45:28Speaker 3: to do is gonna change trajectory of the program and
- 45:33Speaker 3: of the season. But as Van Hiele stated, and as
- 45:36Speaker 3: Matt stated, with Will being a head coach and I'm
- 45:39Speaker 3: not a coordinator, you got to have your paws and
- 45:40Speaker 3: everything else. And Mark stut show there's a defensive guy
- 45:43Speaker 3: where you got your paws in the offense. Sometimes it's
- 45:45Speaker 3: time as that we don't know, but what I do know.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Will be back at Just to Catch Radio after this break.
- 45:58Speaker 2: See the third Your Side, Our way.
- 46:05Speaker 5: For you.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Welcome back Just to Catch Radio, Van House Anthony White
- 46:25Speaker 3: here of the locker for one one you can catch
- 46:27Speaker 3: every Wednesday nine pm to ten pm Eastern Standard Time
- 46:32Speaker 3: on all social media platforms and even might be a
- 46:36Speaker 3: little treat Cat Catch Us both and along with Jack
- 46:41Speaker 3: Pilgrim on Sunday morning, this Sunday morning, because you know
- 46:46Speaker 3: that's what we do.
- 46:46Speaker 2: We just like to come.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Fill the fans with with joy, hope, optimism as long
- 46:53Speaker 3: as we keep Van houes mic mute it. But Van
- 46:56Speaker 3: housefo we want to break. We're talking about xp tasting
- 47:00Speaker 3: this this football season. Everybody's getting giddy, everybody's.
- 47:05Speaker 2: The optimism is high right now.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Man. I don't know if there's a way to really
- 47:09Speaker 3: even bring it down with will Stein has I do
- 47:13Speaker 3: think a lot something.
- 47:14Speaker 2: A lot of people probably overlook when you're.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Talking about will Stein coming into this new position and
- 47:22Speaker 3: you and I played under Bill Curry. I played under
- 47:24Speaker 3: haw Mommy. Bill Curry was set up high and he
- 47:30Speaker 3: doesn't look down on anybody. But he let us coordinate,
- 47:32Speaker 3: just coordinate. He had nothing to do with it. He
- 47:35Speaker 3: lost his job because he had no hands on either
- 47:39Speaker 3: of the subject. But then you had how Money who
- 47:41Speaker 3: had nothing to do with the defense and all to
- 47:44Speaker 3: do with the offense, and it didn't work out. So
- 47:47Speaker 3: I'm wondering if you know will Stein's balance of trying
- 47:52Speaker 3: to be ahead coach and not you know, have a
- 47:56Speaker 3: whole lot of input on the offense as opposed to,
- 48:01Speaker 3: you know, making sure the defense run. Maybe he likes
- 48:04Speaker 3: Bateman enough, but I'm not gonna point out you slid
- 48:08Speaker 3: it under the rug. There's a lot of people don't
- 48:10Speaker 3: look on the rug. You slid it under rug. I'm
- 48:13Speaker 3: not gonna say what having a big the Bateman's uh
- 48:17Speaker 3: play calling duties at Texas A and M as you
- 48:21Speaker 3: so uneloquently stated for a fan.
- 48:24Speaker 2: But there may be that out.
- 48:27Speaker 3: I mean, like I said, have money had an offense
- 48:29Speaker 3: that can score will now Mike Majors had a defense
- 48:32Speaker 3: that can score it? Whill that would let people score
- 48:34Speaker 3: it will. So I just you know, there is that
- 48:39Speaker 3: in the back of my mind. As much as I
- 48:40Speaker 3: love what will william Stein brings to the table and
- 48:44Speaker 3: Joe Sloan and those guys, there's still another side of
- 48:47Speaker 3: the ball, uh that you know. I don't know if
- 48:51Speaker 3: Bateman itself is he self served? Is he you know,
- 48:55Speaker 3: just let it go? Is he you know, just turned
- 48:57Speaker 3: them a plug and play. I would say this if
- 49:04Speaker 3: I'm a head coach. That's what I'm doing. That's look,
- 49:07Speaker 3: that's the same thing. Remember when when Stoops took over
- 49:11Speaker 3: to play calling when he was here, he could go
- 49:15Speaker 3: to play calling too, like I I understand the well
- 49:24Speaker 3: and especially now with nil, that's probably more responsibilities on
- 49:28Speaker 3: the head coach, so to speak.
- 49:30Speaker 2: That's why we hire a GM.
- 49:31Speaker 3: That's why we hire that next level of staffing between
- 49:35Speaker 3: the a D and the head coach.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Let those guys handle that.
- 49:39Speaker 3: It is no way, in my opinion, any head coach
- 49:45Speaker 3: can be successful if they're coming from being a coordinator
- 49:49Speaker 3: that they don't have those hands, their hands and that
- 49:53Speaker 3: side of of the equation on that team because you
- 49:58Speaker 3: know it best. You are, in essence a guru of
- 50:02Speaker 3: the offensive side of the ball. Jeff Brom calls his plays.
- 50:10Speaker 2: It just came name.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Just Tennessee coach calls his plays. Lang Kisson calls Pipel
- 50:17Speaker 3: called his plays. Lincoln Riley calls his plays like you
- 50:22Speaker 3: know what happened at Oklahoma when he said, not my ball,
- 50:26Speaker 3: I'm getting old when he went throw a hoomer from Clemson.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Not call defensive players like.
- 50:34Speaker 3: There's look, as we talked about points per per game, right,
- 50:38Speaker 3: there's only a handful of teams that are elite. There's
- 50:42Speaker 3: only truly a handful of elite offenses and defensive play
- 50:46Speaker 3: college and if you get elevated to that spot, it's
- 50:50Speaker 3: no way I'm giving up some that I'm one of
- 50:52Speaker 3: the best at Liam Cohen calls his plays in the
- 50:57Speaker 3: NFL got the Jaguars Roader, that's what you can you look,
- 51:04Speaker 3: Here's here's why I say it's even more empty to
- 51:08Speaker 3: be on that level because I was offered I had
- 51:12Speaker 3: an opportunity to be a decent coordinator, highscho I'm like, dude,
- 51:14Speaker 3: my that ain't my ego. It takes an ego to
- 51:18Speaker 3: be on that level. It takes a extraordinary ego to.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Be a head coach.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Now you're telling me, and be honest, if I'm off
- 51:27Speaker 3: off from the coordinator, defrom the coordinator, and I become
- 51:30Speaker 3: a head coach and I hire deferment the coordinator, you
- 51:33Speaker 3: think I'm gonna truly truly eliminate myself from that's how
- 51:40Speaker 3: about where I know what I'm doing and you running
- 51:42Speaker 3: my defense?
- 51:45Speaker 2: You have to defense right because you run.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Now you're telling me I'm gonna totally eliminate myself from
- 51:53Speaker 3: even going I'm gonna be into that.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Now the defense coordinator be looking over a show like,
- 51:58Speaker 2: oh am I doing? Am I doing enough?
- 52:00Speaker 3: Because you know, my my boss is the guru at
- 52:04Speaker 3: this so why even why even put that on your
- 52:09Speaker 3: If the coordinator or coordinate at all, you handle that
- 52:12Speaker 3: until you realize, Okay, man, it's a little too much
- 52:14Speaker 3: for me. If it gets too much for you, then
- 52:18Speaker 3: I'll understand a little bit. But if it gets too
- 52:20Speaker 3: much for you, you might not be cut off your
- 52:22Speaker 3: head coach. Yeah, but I go with you. I agree
- 52:26Speaker 3: with you. I do think you got a groom. You
- 52:27Speaker 3: gotta groom the people. Uh, it's just like I, like
- 52:30Speaker 3: I said, I love Lane Keiffin's office of college. You
- 52:33Speaker 3: gotta think man, Lane went up against Sabing. It's a
- 52:37Speaker 3: coordinator like man, you fake you you nose and those
- 52:40Speaker 3: with the head coach like like what said? So like
- 52:44Speaker 3: you said, there's no damn way, there's no way that
- 52:47Speaker 3: Lane is gonna let his coordinate it now, which is
- 52:51Speaker 3: funny if you nose, or those with Nick Saban, who's
- 52:54Speaker 3: one of the greatest coaches ever, if not the greatest,
- 52:59Speaker 3: and you just a young, snotty nose coordinator, which he's
- 53:02Speaker 3: been this whole time. Now you hear, coach, how how
- 53:05Speaker 3: is he gonna accept somebody? And I'm looking every time
- 53:09Speaker 3: I say something about Will Stein, I say Lane Kiffing. Now,
- 53:14Speaker 3: Will and Lane have nothing in common, but they're great
- 53:16Speaker 3: off in some minds, aggressive and great like aggressive like
- 53:19Speaker 3: we're always applying pressure, Like you don't get a chance
- 53:22Speaker 3: on the third week, we're not on third and five.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Let's just you know, get three yards and punt the ball.
- 53:28Speaker 2: No, on third and five. Week and seven we might
- 53:30Speaker 2: get twelve, might go twelve.
- 53:34Speaker 3: So I so it's just kind of you know, I
- 53:37Speaker 3: think about you know, Lane going.
- 53:39Speaker 2: That was the one thing I thought about.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Man and Will has a young staff as considerable, you know,
- 53:44Speaker 3: one of our homeboys, and Wash Stewart, the defense line
- 53:47Speaker 3: coach only coach returned from last season, is aggressive dude.
- 53:51Speaker 3: And that dude's all right. He's fifty like, which is
- 53:53Speaker 3: not very old for coaching. But Man and Ward knows
- 53:57Speaker 3: wall like that. He's passionately he does ball. If your
- 54:01Speaker 3: d well d line, I don't I don't see a
- 54:04Speaker 3: reason for an offensive coach really get after it unless
- 54:07Speaker 3: you're not getting to the ball. If you're not getting
- 54:10Speaker 3: to the ball, if we rushing three or four against
- 54:13Speaker 3: five man fronts or against five offensive linemen, you really
- 54:18Speaker 3: not expected to get to the ball is the next
- 54:20Speaker 3: level that should be getting to the ball now.
- 54:24Speaker 2: So but if Stu.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Goes to William and says, hey man, look, hey man,
- 54:31Speaker 3: y'all gotta y'all gotta pump man. My guys are tired
- 54:34Speaker 3: or you know, you gotta you know what I mean,
- 54:36Speaker 3: Our guys tire. We need y'all to you know, don't
- 54:39Speaker 3: don't score quick. And I'm telling you what the air
- 54:41Speaker 3: Raid they used to tell, Hey man, we tired. Man,
- 54:44Speaker 3: don't score so quick. It's crazy. Yeah, look, I'm what
- 54:53Speaker 3: you're saying that I'm I'm gonna preface that a little bit.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Is as a defensive player who play on the team
- 55:01Speaker 3: that was offensively.
- 55:04Speaker 2: In that.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Okay, I'm gonna use that word because I'm gonna use
- 55:08Speaker 3: some worse offensively and that is more.
- 55:12Speaker 2: PC for the radio.
- 55:15Speaker 3: When they scored. I'm gonna say this. Le'm gonna start this.
- 55:20Speaker 3: When we played Louisville matt in nineteen ninety six, in
- 55:24Speaker 3: the first half, I think they all combined three first
- 55:28Speaker 3: downs by both teams.
- 55:30Speaker 1: It's an exciting football game.
- 55:35Speaker 3: So as a defense, even if we come around the field,
- 55:39Speaker 3: if you score quickly, just that scoring.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Exciteds at least for the next two three players.
- 55:45Speaker 3: So I'm not sure if I want y'all to not
- 55:47Speaker 3: try to score, but if y'all have a chance of.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Milking the ball, milking a little bit, oh, I I
- 55:57Speaker 2: just hope.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Look, this is what I see with this season, and
- 56:00Speaker 3: this is why I trust Will Stein and Joe Sloan.
- 56:05Speaker 3: I don't think people understand how good of an offense
- 56:08Speaker 3: of mind Joe Sloan is. I think Joe Sloan got
- 56:10Speaker 3: a bad rapper l s U this last year because
- 56:13Speaker 3: they have to blame somebody. That guy got James Daniels
- 56:17Speaker 3: to win the Heisman Trophy and now he's a star
- 56:19Speaker 3: in the NFL. I trust them in their evaluation of Minschi.
- 56:29Speaker 3: If Minchi isn't on the level, let's just I'm even
- 56:34Speaker 3: prefer I'm not even bring it down a little tempered
- 56:36Speaker 3: down a little bit. If Minschi's going now on the
- 56:38Speaker 3: level of Devin Leary, I'm gonna start looking side eye
- 56:42Speaker 3: at the evaluation, because if you are a quarterback centric offense,
- 56:49Speaker 3: you put a lot on that quarterback shoulders. I'm not
- 56:52Speaker 3: asking him to have the cannon that Will will Levis
- 56:56Speaker 3: had or the intelligence of Andre Wills or whatever. I
- 57:01Speaker 3: just want him to to get this offense in and
- 57:05Speaker 3: out of a huddle and be efficient on offense. I
- 57:09Speaker 3: truly believe if they are effishent on offense with the
- 57:13Speaker 3: with the level of talent that we have at the
- 57:15Speaker 3: wide receiver room, if they could be fishing on offense
- 57:18Speaker 3: this year, I think the next few years is it's
- 57:21Speaker 3: gonna be awesome. I just want to see this quarterback
- 57:25Speaker 3: play against live ammunition and see how well he handles it.
- 57:32Speaker 3: If this guy is average or above average, I feel
- 57:37Speaker 3: really good about the next couple of seasons.
- 57:40Speaker 4: Man, you said something earlier that I like, I really
- 57:44Speaker 4: agree with, and you were talking about how to be
- 57:45Speaker 4: a coordinator. You have to have a level of ego too.
- 57:48Speaker 4: You you have to have a level of like I
- 57:50Speaker 4: guess ego is a strong word. You have the level
- 57:52Speaker 4: of respect to yourself to say that, like, look, this
- 57:55Speaker 4: is what put me in this situation.
- 57:56Speaker 1: I have a mind for this. I'm the guy for
- 57:59Speaker 1: the situation.
- 57:59Speaker 4: I've in defense my whole life, worked in offensive my
- 58:01Speaker 4: whole life, and we've seen that the best coaches in
- 58:04Speaker 4: collegeable history are some of the most egotistical dudes on
- 58:07Speaker 4: the planet. You know, like Lane Kiffin obviously one of them.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Like you might hate the guy, but the dude is
- 58:11Speaker 4: one of the greatest of all minds.
- 58:13Speaker 2: We have.
- 58:13Speaker 4: Nick Saban is up there, Liam Cohen is up there.
- 58:16Speaker 4: You brought him up and he's doing the same thing
- 58:17Speaker 4: he's doing in college football in the NFL, which is
- 58:20Speaker 4: a whole other level.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Jeff Brohm another guy.
- 58:22Speaker 4: These are all guys who built their career, you know,
- 58:25Speaker 4: calling plays on one end, coaching on one end, and
- 58:27Speaker 4: then when they became a head coach, when you got
- 58:29Speaker 4: hired to their staff, you respected them in a sense
- 58:32Speaker 4: of like, I'm there's no way I'm calling the plays
- 58:34Speaker 4: on this team. There's no way. I'm like, I want
- 58:37Speaker 4: to work under him because I want to learn. I
- 58:38Speaker 4: want to be a part of the situation. But that
- 58:40Speaker 4: is his that's his baby right there. I can't touch that.
- 58:43Speaker 4: Do you think that maybe after this season we see
- 58:47Speaker 4: will Stein think, Okay, maybe I need to take the
- 58:51Speaker 4: reins again to kind of build that ego again, build
- 58:53Speaker 4: that respect instead of maybe just having the head coach responsibility,
- 58:57Speaker 4: so that I can maybe gain the respect other coaching
- 59:00Speaker 4: areas around at least other schools around the country.
- 59:04Speaker 3: I would say this, if will Stein has said that
- 59:09Speaker 3: he's not gonna call plays, that was an agreement for
- 59:12Speaker 3: Joe Sloan to get here.
- 59:14Speaker 2: If he said that, I think so.
- 59:17Speaker 3: If he made that agreement, that means he might not
- 59:20Speaker 3: have gotten Joe Sloan if he didn't hedge on calling plays.
- 59:25Speaker 3: I just I respect Joe Sloan. I think he's a
- 59:33Speaker 3: really good coach. I just looking at the other side,
- 59:36Speaker 3: There's no way I'm giving that to somebody else, at
- 59:39Speaker 3: least not now. And if he does, you know, the
- 59:43Speaker 3: worst thing to do is when things don't go wrong,
- 59:47Speaker 3: you gotta start pointing fingers.
- 59:50Speaker 2: I mean, that's human nature.
- 59:52Speaker 3: And if I'm not calling the place and that offense
- 59:56Speaker 3: is not running like I know it can run, I gotta.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Hey, Joe Man, you have step aside.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Look, if if takes a win week three and we're
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: not all hitting on all cylinders, will Stein might have
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: to take over to play calling duties.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that that is an interesting concept.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: We're gonna talk a little bit more about that, but
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: we gotta talk take a break here on Justinicatz Radio.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Will be back after this Rod, Welcome back just to
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Cap Radio.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Anty White, Van Hiles sitting in from the locker for
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Michael Benny. We are doing the best we can to
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: do him proud on the show and talking a lot
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: of UK football because it is right.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Around the corner.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Van and I are very optimistic even Matt has become
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: we may turn Matt.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: To a UK fan by the end of the show.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Our second our second day host to the show.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: If you'd like to join the show five zero two
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: three eight four fourteen fifty, or you can text the
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: show five zero two four one for fourteen fifty. Man.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: We did get a text on the text machine that
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: we're talking about, you know, will william Stein being played
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: calleder Joe Salon, who's gonna be the play caller? And
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: it was kind of just, I guess the philosophies of
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: how the coordinator's call, how the head coaches influenced the
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: game as far as if you're an offensive minded or
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: I guess even if you're a defensive coordinator, a former
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: defensive coordinator like Mark Stoops was one of our callers
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: or one of our textures said that Eddie Grant was
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: always saying next to Stoops when he called this place,
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: which you know, one of our favorite Edie Grant's probably
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: our favorite next to Liam, but Liam kept leaving and coming.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Liam's second go around wasn't a sexy so I'm not
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: certain how much credence should give to that. But he
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: said the other different was it was odd him was
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: in the press box, so Stoops wasn't in his ear.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: I don't don't know if that plays any part for you.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: I've said this since day one. Stoops is not making
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: offensive play cards. That's that's not all that rocks and rolls.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: Here's the deal with with the success of those coordinators.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I want people understand that Jimmy's and Joes It's simple
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: as that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: If you look.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: At Eddie Grand Eddie Grant, to me is one of
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: the best offensive coordinators we've ever had because his adoptability,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: his flexibility. He I won't you to understand when we
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: went to Lim Bowden's offensive quarterback as all as as
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: a quarterback of all team, that man in that one
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: year had three different offenses and those are on the fly.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: He had Terry Wilson, he had Sawdy Smith. They didn't
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: had Lim Bolden. That limb Bolden offense. If you really
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: look at it, and y'all know, I break down all
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: the games in depth. Is that the evolution of that
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: offense from the first game he plays the last was
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: all all his world.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: How he just.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Kept integrating on plays and and changing the scheme a
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: little bit, adding a wrinkle to the to the play calling.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: Next week, when Liam came here, lim best season was
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Booie Bye won Dale Robinson. If one day is not here,
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: I know that off isn't as great as it as
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: it ended up being because we just didn't have the
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: talent on the perimeter. So here's the deal with with
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: will Stein and with Eddie gran That's the call of
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: was saying. Eddie grand might have been close to coach Stoops,
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: but when when when Eddie Grant got hired, did not
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: Coach Stops said that he is the CEO of the offense. Yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: he trusted that guy, And just because he's next to
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: the coach doesn't mean the coach. Look, Anthony, I don't
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: have to be next to the coach to call players.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: You know those things they have on that on their head,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: those those headphones.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: I can be on the other side of feeling, hey man,
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: you you better run power. Hey, quarterback power doesn't come
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: there next to each other. Doesn't mean anything.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: You guys are playing. You didn't use like the cups
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: with the strings attached to call.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Y'all now vandam used pony express.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Okay, see, I figured it was like from the guy
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: from the Prescotch was send down a carrier pigeon to let
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: you guys know.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm just telling y'all now, Oh, to be
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: a good coordinator, you better have some good players.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: It's on this level you can deal. In the high school.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: You can run a scheme that maybe you at a
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: school and the feet of school runs the same scheme
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: you run high school. And now the kids when they
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: get to you, they know what they that can happen
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: in high school when you get to the next level.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: If you don't have if you don't have talent, you're
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: not gonna be good coach.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: It's just as simple as that.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Bad players make great coaches look average, and great players
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: make average coaches look elite.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Gene Chiswick is one of them. Where's gene Chisick at now?
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Was he not? At the last time? I think I
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: knew it wasn't that North Carolina?
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: I don't know where Genie is the same way, hey,
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: the same way you said, right, how after he lost
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Tim Couch had mama coach coach at Southeastern down here.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: He was not successful. Again, just be honest, he was not. Man,
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: he's a great and is he not? Look at I'll
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: never get when I came back on campus in ninety seven,
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: and back in those days, this is a dig Matt.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Back in those days, us former players were able to
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: get on the field and and not get turned away.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: So I came on the field and that that joker
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: had a three by five index card, just like you
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: guys see Mike Leach and all those his his the disciples,
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: a three by five note card. And he came over
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: there with Tim Couch and I can't remember who else
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: it was, and said, all right, everybody change it. We're
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: gonna do this, this and this on the fly. He
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: was a great office of mine. But that's what great office.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: The mind does not e quick to win losses if
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: you don't how the dudes. It's simple as that, speaking
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: of the dudes, man, that's what I was. The other
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: point I was gonna get to man, and I know
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: he likes to feed the studs. His mom likes to
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: feed the studs. Debbie Stein she likes to feed the
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: stuffs with her sissy cakes.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you for cleaning it up.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Yeah, well on here, this is not it's.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: Not our podcast. We don't we do not have those
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: liberties here.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: No, I'm just you don't looking at our does does
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: the depth of our receive the quality? First of all,
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: quantity in our receiver room? Which are the studs that
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Will speaks of. And I got a whole different philosophy
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: on how I feel about our office running, you know,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: with DJ Miller, Nick Anderson and you know, Harley Gilmore
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: and some of those guys, even the local guy Kaufman Brock.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: Do you think we got enough depth for Will to
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: do what he really and I gotta take on top
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: of that, but do you think Will has the depth
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: and the quality that he needs to do it? Because
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: at argument, they just man, they just bost you. It's
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: boss hog, Like, I'm gonna do what I want to
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: do to you, what I want to do to you,
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: how I want to do it to you. Now, it's
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: kind of like you got to scheme a whole lot.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: And as you said, if we're taking the play call
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: and ability from you, it takes a lot of time.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: To recognize or you gotta have eyes and you gotta
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: have a lot of.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Quality control around you, letting you know, hey, look man,
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: we can't get this route because over the week, we
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: can't do this, that and the other.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: I will say this unless you get to him we play.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: It's funny when we played Georgia, Kirby Smart was at
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: depth twelve yards or twelve fifteen yards. No matter what
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: I did, he had me from thirteen or fifteen yards
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: like he just he just blazed up in the box
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: every time the ball. So if I was running it,
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: he just coming free, a free runner. But but we
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: both at CC players, Kirby Smart on the ground, me
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: getting tackled by somebody else a backer, but he did
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: make me deviate my route.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Were running route.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: He's still coming down there. You gotta cover me with
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: you know, it's tough as hell coming from depth. I'm
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: seven yards deep, he's thirty. So we twenty yards apart.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: You don't know what if I'm run a seam route,
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: you know, we're on the ops around you know, on
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: the flat route or arrow route. But it's just kind
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: of like you said, when you start scheming. But and
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: so within the game, how mummy was really great at
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: well can we get this off?
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yeah? Man, this dude, all he doing is coming at
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: my chest. So man, just either do this or that.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: So my whole point being is, you know, if we
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: have you know, the depth for will to be like, look, man,
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: I could just man, let's just run fade just like me.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: And you were at the game at Old Miss with
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: d Recalf lost.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Who is lone? He's a big dude. Line is like
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: six three two sixty three.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: Back then baby is Baty was the smallest one. Yes,
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: here's here's my opinion on that. On this offense, really
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: this season falls on the shoulders of.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Minschi and Nick Anderson. If we can get the Nick Anderson.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: I think it was a redshirt freshman year Atklahoma, we're
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: gonna be okay. If we don't, then it's gonna be
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: a problem as a defensive back if in college, not
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: If if an offense.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: Has a dude, normally we have to give extra attention
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: to him, which means we might double him, might play
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: in and out. So now the same thing on decent line,
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: if someone is getting double, that means everybody else getting single.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: And if you ain't got another capable receiver that can
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: beat on one on one, then you shouldn't be in
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: sec you shouldn't be on the team on scholarship, and
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: you shouldn't And now they were n al you just
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: robbing Peter now because now you're not only getting a
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: free education, you get money. So if Nick Anderson is
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: that dude he was at Oklahoma, I think this off
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: he would be one day robbers and is. And if
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: that's the case, now it makes everybody else's job easier.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: But if he's the dude he was.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: It's last year Oklahoma and last year at Lash were
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: in deep we in deep waters, were in deep waters
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: with with with no snorkel, no fans in the and
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: the boaters left us. If if he's not, he is
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: the only guy, in my opinion, because d J. Miller
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: is still young, he's the only guy on that in
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: that position room that is truly a difference maker with
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: with with a re Now can the one of these
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: fresh to come in and be I don't know, but
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: a guy who has a resume and has some planning time,
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: he's the only difference maker in that room. And if
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: he's not a difference maker, when when deep deep waters.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: What we get.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: We do got the tight ends to go through. And
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: that's one thing they did in Oregon. And the difference
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: only again, I go back to the difference that Oregon
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: with with Will calling the place, the tight ends and
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: the wide receivers all look the same. Yeah, random the
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: tight end, man, those receivers are so dug on big
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: it was ridiculous. But they also could run so like
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: I'm with you. But here here's my philosophy. And this
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: is what I want to tell Big Glundation. That's what
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: I don't tell William Stein if he's listening to Joe Sloan.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: If y'all both listening, man, this is what we need
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: to do. I don't know what min she is. We don't.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: I don't know what we're gonna get out of men she.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: I'm expecting the best out of men she because I
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: think Will Is gonna put him in positions.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: To be successful on a constant basis.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: And the more constantly you can do that, I think,
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: the better off we're gonna be.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I think, and.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: It has been this way for years, for the past
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: probably fifteen years.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Put the ball in CJ. Baxter's belly. Javonte Barnes, Jason Patterson.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Even if you don't put in that belly check down Charlie's,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: you don't let them, you know, do different things. I say,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: we have the stable of running backs to move the change.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: And when is that? When is the last time you
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: tell me this? This is an interesting I don't have
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: the stat on him, but.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: I'm almost certain when is the last time that we've
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: had a back that rush for less than four point
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: five yards of carry like a starting back, combination of back.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: You realize we have charged five yards.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: We'll be finished now, Chris, Chris and Benny I think
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: was six yards apiece.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Benny, Benny was six. I know, I know Rod was.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: I didn't think Bennie was that, but Aj was like
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: five now, Boom was like, damn, there's seventh. But my
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: point then is we we stay, We stay on the chains.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: Will doesn't have to dial up much of a play call. Now,
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: Like I said, you getting in second and four, second
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: and five man, we your defense getting rest. We can
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: do whatever we want to. All meant she has to
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: do put the ball in the quarterback.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: We can do r p O.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: Put the ball in the in the running back stomach.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: If it's not there. Hey, let's let's look see what's downstairs.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Play action. Now you got play action at your disposal.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: You got counter, you got misdirection, and don't forget van House,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: don't forget Rodriguez.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: We put it in the running backs belly. Pull it out.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Now you got Nick running deep, you got DJ running
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: deep cross. Now you got CJ running a shallow I
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: mean rod REGs. Come on, man, all right, there's no
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: way you can't be excited about this. All right, this this,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: I'm gonna put it to this, Anthony. And we were
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: doing seven o seven and T shirts and sharts and
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: a helmet. I'm riding with you and that old line
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: and that whole line whole water, don't know, we got
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: a whole new old line. Can that whole line? Can
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: that old line whole water? If they can, I'm with you.
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Here's a great thing about Anthony. Remember back in the day,
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: you play two non conference games, and everybody gets all
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: in the ts, like, oh, week two, it only takes
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: two weeks. We're gonna find out week two what this
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: team is all about. And if they come in and
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: if Alabama come in week two, we pull off that
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: that upset come back at your boy. There's no if
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: for me, but if I did have a wish, it
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: would be that we could do this show next week
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: as well. But we came, so we're gonna have our
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: last segment when we come back just to CATS Radio.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: We'll be back after this.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: My Time, My.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Times, Fast Your Fashion, Welcome back just to CAP Radio.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Anthony White, along with Van House of the Locker for
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: one one catches every Wednesday, nine pm ten pm Eastern
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Standard Time on all your social media platforms.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: Michael Bennett is I would.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Cover from Michael Bennet will be back on Monday, so
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: you know you'll be back your regular, your regular schedule
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: program then. But as for now, we got one more
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: segment getting you guys all excited about UK football right
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: around the corner beating Alabama the second week of the season.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: But you can call the show at five zero two
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: three eight four fourteen fifty or you can textas show
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: five zero two four one four fourteen fifty.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Ben, As you were.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: Talking about, you know the offensive line, and this is
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: supposed to be it's taty one of the best offensive
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: lines that we've had here at Kentucky in sometime and
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: one thing we talk about on our podcast on Wednesday
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: nights is all the pieces you're talking four star, five
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: stars guys that may have had a setback of their
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: program or just didn't fit in at their program. And
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: now we got a lot of as far as on
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: paper a good offensive line. But these guys have to jail.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: They have to know how to rub, they have to
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: know how to work together, they have to know how
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: to you know, to pull, and you know, they have.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: To know each other, which they're using this off season
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: to do.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: And you you kind of stated before we went to
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: break that you know that's gonna be that's kind of
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: a contingency on if Minji or Minsi, Minshi or Sloan
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: and those guys are gonna have a productive offensive those
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: guys do. They gotta do it front. But as far
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: as on paper, man, these guys are doing it. And
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: the other thing is we know that our defensive front
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: has been stout for the past seven eight years, so
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: you know they're gonna get good looks on the daily.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: That's and that's one thing I don't know if you
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: know this from inside program, that these guys are talking
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: like I remember when we played back in our day.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: You know, we had an indoor during the summer.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: You know, guys run route and if we can't get
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: a route off, receiver would ask.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: The dB like, man, what's your tail?
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: How are you telling because you dipping your hip every
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: time before you do this, so try to and so
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: you just work on it all summer to take that
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: to take that tail away. In the same if a
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: dB is getting beat and if you know every time
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: you open your hips, I'm gonna do this, So you know,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: just kind of get the workman, and I hear that's
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: what the defensive line and the offensive line are doing. Like, man,
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: we beating you every time because you're giving us even
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: your stance is showing us that your inside is open.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: So you you kind of talked about the offensive line
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: being probably the biggest factor on the success of Joe
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: Sloan and and William But uh, I don't know. I'm
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: still optimistic until I see it can't be done. I'm
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: assuming it's gonna be done. I would say this and
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: this is and this is where it gets into coaching.
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: How we have talked about like a Grant is what
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: what's so great about Eddie Grant is he schemed to
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: what his players could do.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Now is Joe Sloan.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: And Will Stickler do the same thing, the only thing different,
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: the only thing. The problem with that is does your
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: playbook get too soon? Like can you what can your
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: players handle? And can they adapt? But you don't want
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: to go You don't want to deviate too much from
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: what you want to do because if they can't, if
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: they can't handle it, it goes back to what I
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: said earlier. Now I'm gonna look side out at your
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: evaluation of the guys.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: You you brought on the old line. All I've heard
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: this old line.
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: Is supposed to be good, like this is gonna be
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: one of the better We getting almost back to the
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: big Blue wall. If they get close to the resemblance
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: of what Slur had here when when when he was coaching.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: We have a chance to be special, y'all. And especially
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: does not mean I don't want to say that special.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: Especially we get six seven, then then we all right,
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: all right, So let's let's see where we are. I
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: like the excitement Week two, It's stamped on my schedule.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: See what we do again, The Great Crimson Tide with
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Kaitlyn de Boor and the Wee Beat them.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I'm telling you, man, I'm gonna get excited. Why wouldn't
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: you be excited from the beginning?
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: I am excited, but but I'm excited to so we
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: we can win five games in comfortence exciting?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Now living? Why are you so living to? Why? Five?
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: What do you be? Fair? We got what we got it,
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: we got ten minutes left. Let's let's let's oh, oh
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: the schedule you wan up on the schedule. Yeah, we
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: got the schedule. I got the schedule of it Youngstown State.
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: I'm assuming w Alabama here in Lexington, Fayette County, three
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: thirty on ABC.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Let's let's roll with.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: Let's roll with the hypothetical of everybody saying, w huh,
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: that's a w the hypothetic, but you said all of
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: them W no, no, no, Alabama's a W college station
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: Texas A and M very next week, huh. Because you're
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: probably gonna be a little beat up. You gonna be
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: a little beat up. You're probably gonna lose a couple
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: of people, and you don't bruises. So two and one.
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: South Alabama here in Lexington fed Country. He even got
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: even three and one.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Oh, now you go bamber ball down down in Columbia,
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: South Carolina bamra ball. Can we win in Colombia for
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: one time? Can we win at Columbia one time? That's
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: three you three and two?
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Oh lord, that's terrible. Now, I know, I know you,
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: I know. We got biased here.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: But we're back here in Lexton, Faed County against the
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: fighting Mike, the Tigers three and three from batting rouge.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: Although although we got a new coach, like we got
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: a new coach when I played, we we won every
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: game at home against LSU. You know what, hypothetically, no,
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: I oh, you know what, No.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Three and three, we three and three Norman. We gotta
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: go to Norman three four, three and four?
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: All right, all right, all right, so we ain't got
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: the short quarterback no more.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: Vanderbilt rolls in the town four to four.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: A week later, four or four, two weeks later, now
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: two weeks later, bye week, two weeks later. Jeans heifeling
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: them are welcoming us down in Knoxville, Tennessee for a
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: good game. Remember twenty twenty we rolled down there with
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: Garantino like twenty one.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Points gearing towner. Ain't coming through that door. Five and four.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: We everyone to Knoxville, win five or four were in Knoxville.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: Okay, uh the fighting John Summer ales a Florida Gators
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: coming in lection tip for the first time, coming back
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: on do we record against Florida last four to five years?
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: Six and four?
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: Look at man Guindy, Missouri. Oh, drink drinks still in Missouri? Ready,
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: tell yeah, you gotta go down there. Though it's an
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: ugly place to play. All right, this is what gonna happen.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: We six and four. You're looking at that little game
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: Louis was. I say, let's let's say Louis.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Nine two.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Were looking ahead because we're trying to get them out
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: the playoffs. I say, we lose that game with six
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: and five?
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Is that is?
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: That? Is that Sandwich games? It's that weird one.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: You got Florida little and we're gonna be unfocused and
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: we gotta go Yeah, six and five. Then the last
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: as game of this season, we got to fight Matthew
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: childresses of Louisville, Kentucky. As as John Sharp would say,
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: we're gonna hang up a hundred bighams.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Look if I if.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: I ever saw a lot of football team allow another
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: team to put up one hundred big ones on them,
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: I would denounce my fandom for not just football, the
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: entire university itself.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I'd have to move states.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: Okay, well, well I've already written up a declaration. All
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: you gotta do is sign the mat we seven and five,
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: one hundred Bighams through Tim Bigghams seventy five. And I know,
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: and I'm not mad at I'm not mad at the
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: way you got there either. I'm not mad at the
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: way you got there.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Matt.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: I don't know, except you're not a huge I don't
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: know how much Kentucky fan you are huge. I don't
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: know if you gotta say so on the last game
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: against Louisville everything that, or you think that any of
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: the games that Van predicted Wims have lost you would
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: disagree with.
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: I don't disagree with really any of them. The only
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: one that I can say that I will fight you
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: about is the one in Knoxville. Like I know, Kentucky
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: and Tennessee do always play tight. That's a big rivalry
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: game Historically, They're just not great in Knoxville. The only
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: thing about this team, I really don't know how to
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: pick this game. It's kind of a coin flip for
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: me because, like I said, Kentucky doesn't play particularly well
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: in Knoxville, but at the same time they have Josh
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Hipel as a head coach.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: That dude's never gonna win a championship. I he can't.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: I don't know what his problem is.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: He'll he'll put up sixty points a game, but he
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: constantly hires defensive coordinators that give up forty five. So
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: like it's one where under Mark Stoops, I was fully
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: confident that Kentucky just couldn't beat that team. They just
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: didn't have the offense for it. But under will Stein,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: they might have a chance. You know, it's gonna be
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: a shootout kind of game. That's how Josh Hipel likes
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: to coach. So that one I'm willing to give you.
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: That might be the only game willing to fight you on.
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: Or you know, I know you said, hypothetically Alabama, that's
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: the other one. If you said that one hundred percent,
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: I'd say, okay, i'ma have to fight you back in Alabama.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: But I don't mind how you got there. I don't
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: mind seven and five.
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: You know, there's obviously a couple of games in there
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: at Kentucky will probably win that Maybe you think they
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: wouldn't win, or maybe they lose that you probably shouldn't lose.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: So I'm fine with seven, five, six and six.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: So yeah, so so so then the baseline for our
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: fan base, I guess it's gonna be that six and six.
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: I think you have to I think you have to
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: make a bowl game this season. I think that should
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: be a bare minimum you should.
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: You have to find you have to hold on, hold on,
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: hold on, man. You said we have to because we
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: fired a coach that consistently with the bowl games, or
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: you're saying a new coach coming in. We've been on
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: the decline for three years. The coach just got fired
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: after the last two bad years, and now we suspect that, Hey,
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: you know, I don't even know if you well, I
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: guess Mark Stoukes Brooks, as we pointed out, Brooks had
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: two five hundred seasons in the SEC one SEC and
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: we went to a couple of bowl games. Mark Stoops
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: made it very you know, common place to go to
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: bowl games. So you say, for this coach to come
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: in his first year after coaching change, have then, have
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: we ever had a coach come in for you're a
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: coaching change, because all our coaching change has been fires.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: It's not well what you call it. Uh yeah, Mors
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: Morris is the only.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Last coming I know. We gotta get out here in
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: a few minutes. I'll make this really fast.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: The only reason I say that is just because of
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: the era of college football we're in now. I'm not
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: saying you need to make a playoff in your first
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: three or four years. I'm not saying you got to
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: compete for a national SEC title in the first three
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: or four years. I think that if you want to
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: continue funding the Kentucky football program in the way that
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: they are behind will Stein right now, like you said,
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: the bring they're trying to build the big Blue wall again.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: They're trying to feed the studs. You got to have
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: money to feed those studs.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: And if you want to do that, especially with the
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: issues that's going on in the basketball side right now,
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: with like is Mark Pope gonna be here another year,
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: you have to you have to pay a whole nother
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: buy out right there. You're still paying Mark Stoops. You know,
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: you're still paying some of these other guys. If you
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: want to continue to say that, like for the boosters
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: and the donate and the donors, to say I'm still
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: gonna give that money.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Jam I say, look, we're still gonna commit to football.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: You know you're gonna have a will Stein guy who's
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: gonna be looked at all over across the country if
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: he has success here to coach somewhere else.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: If you want to keep somebody like that, you.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: Got to set the bar kind of high early and say, look,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: we've given you the resources. We want this to be different.
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: We don't want to be like the history of Kentucky.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: We want to start something new with you. If he
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: gets five wins, I'm not gonna say, look, you're out
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: of here, Bud. The sea's hot. But I think if
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: you want to be able to say there's a positive
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: trajectory you're looking up into the future, bowl game for
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: me is like you just got to at least make
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: one at least or at least compete, compete for a
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: bowl game in your first season to show the fans that, hey,
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: we are in investing in this in the future.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: This is not a one off.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Man. We got about thirty seconds, so you it is.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: It is it bowl game or bus for you, for
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: the real for the real blue guy, the real blue guy,
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: not the red guy.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Like we said yesterday, the standard is the standard.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: Like, we can't reduce the standard because you just fired
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: a guy and now and you held him up to
