- 0:08Speaker 1: use code HMA, Cole Thompson, sec on filtered the power to,
- 0:13Speaker 1: you can find them on social media, Mr. Cole Thompson
- 0:16Speaker 1: on X. We've got an absolute banger that I don't
- 0:20Speaker 1: know if before the season, many people would have, you know,
- 0:23Speaker 1: from a national perspective would have said like this game
- 0:26Speaker 1: is going to be must see in the sec this year. Um,
- 0:30Speaker 1: There were questions around the takeover at Ole Miss and
- 0:34Speaker 1: what that would look like. There were questions around could
- 0:36Speaker 1: Drink win a big game. We've got a really, really
- 0:40Speaker 1: fun one between the Tigers and Rebels coming up this weekend.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, who would have thought that going into this game,
- 0:46Speaker 2: the running back we would be talking about between Ole
- 0:48Speaker 2: Miss and Mizzou is Jamal Roberts.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Not Ahmad Hardy, not Keemon Lacey.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Who would have thought we'd be talking about Caden Lee
- 0:57Speaker 2: as the star wide receiver and Oh wait, but he's
- 1:00Speaker 2: now in Como playing alongside with Austin Simmons, a quarterback
- 1:03Speaker 2: that everyone said, you know what, best of luck in
- 1:06Speaker 2: your future endeavors, but we got Trey Dad Chalice, who
- 1:07Speaker 2: also has been arguably the most quiet elite player at
- 1:12Speaker 2: his position. It's a defense that has no quit on
- 1:15Speaker 2: Mizzou's side. It's a defense that Leaves a lot to
- 1:18Speaker 2: be desired when it comes to open field tackling on
- 1:19Speaker 2: Ole Miss' side, but it's also a quarterback going up
- 1:22Speaker 2: against his former team and a former defensive coordinator, now
- 1:25Speaker 2: head coach, who knows the ins and outs of what
- 1:27Speaker 2: makes him tick. So this really is a big game.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I got asked this yesterday, and I want to turn
- 1:31Speaker 2: the question to you. Is this a playoff eliminator? Because
- 1:34Speaker 2: when you look at both Texas, I mean, when you
- 1:36Speaker 2: look at the schedule for both these teams, they still
- 1:38Speaker 2: have to face off against Texas, and they still have
- 1:40Speaker 2: to face off against Georgia. And 9-3 isn't guaranteed to
- 1:43Speaker 2: get you out of the college football playoff conversation either.
- 1:46Speaker 2: But it also doesn't put you in it anymore. You
- 1:48Speaker 2: no longer control your own destiny. So the winner of
- 1:50Speaker 2: this game, knowing how those two teams are built, they're
- 1:53Speaker 2: going to need an upset, if not two, to be
- 1:55Speaker 2: able to guarantee a 10-win season.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, that is a really good point. And
- 2:02Speaker 1: I will tell you, I feel okay for both of
- 2:06Speaker 1: these teams against Texas. Georgia is the tough one.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 2: So.
- 2:12Speaker 1: in theory you could do it, but again, the loser
- 2:14Speaker 1: is probably going to need two upsets. The winner will,
- 2:18Speaker 1: will probably need one still. Cause I think Texas will
- 2:21Speaker 1: probably be favored where, you know, I don't know where,
- 2:25Speaker 1: where go.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Once in Austin, once in coma.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So, so maybe Missouri could be favored, but I don't
- 2:30Speaker 1: think so. Like I think Texas logo will do some
- 2:33Speaker 1: lift in there and Texas will be ranked probably slightly
- 2:36Speaker 1: higher at the time that game happens. Um, Yeah, it
- 2:40Speaker 1: needs to be treated like a playoff game eliminator. You
- 2:42Speaker 1: can't take your second loss before Halloween and feel great
- 2:46Speaker 1: in the SEC about getting out unscathed. Like every SEC
- 2:50Speaker 1: team should be worried, maybe with the exception of Georgia,
- 2:53Speaker 1: just because of how their schedule lines up and because
- 2:55Speaker 1: we kind of think they're the bell of the ball.
- 2:56Speaker 1: every sec team should be worried if they have a second,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you know, second loss, you're not getting to Atlanta at
- 3:01Speaker 1: that point, most likely. And then, yeah, you, you mentioned
- 3:05Speaker 1: you may have the two most talented teams left on
- 3:07Speaker 1: your schedule. And then just every other week in the sec,
- 3:10Speaker 1: like Kentucky is not a guaranteed win. Florida is not
- 3:13Speaker 1: a guaranteed win for one of these teams. Like, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: now that's already happened, but like, yeah, I mean, not
- 3:18Speaker 1: even just those two teams, like every single week, taking
- 3:21Speaker 1: your second loss in conference is, is, is a big deal. So, um,
- 3:26Speaker 1: Missouri right now in our, uh, which I'll, I'll pull
- 3:30Speaker 1: this up in a few minutes and we'll talk about it.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Missouri in our CFA poll is 11th. Ole Miss is ninth.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So how's the AP have it? The, the second greatest poll,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know, the, the second.
- 3:40Speaker 2: The worst thing, uh, one's like eight. I think the
- 3:42Speaker 2: other is 13. So, I mean, they're close, but we're
- 3:45Speaker 2: closer because we're right. Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 3: No ball. That's why. Yeah.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Cause we understand.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Eight and 13, um, for them, both teams with a loss, uh, Okay,
- 3:55Speaker 1: all respect in the world to Gunnar Stockton. I'm taking
- 3:57Speaker 1: him out of... Gunnar Stockton aside, these are the best
- 4:01Speaker 1: two quarterbacks in the league? Probably.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I don't know that you would have said.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Now, Trinidad would have been there in people's minds.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Keelan's the outlier, and maybe if Kamario Taylor plays at
- 4:10Speaker 2: a high-end rate, we could say that.
- 4:12Speaker 3: But think about this for a second.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Austin Simmons was a reason why this game out in
- 4:17Speaker 2: Starkville went down to the wire. He was on the plate,
- 4:20Speaker 2: and he had several really, really rocky throws, but... Even
- 4:23Speaker 2: with all that, still found the end zone, still had
- 4:26Speaker 2: a great third down consistent rapport. Like, the things that
- 4:29Speaker 2: he does, the interception even that he has so far,
- 4:32Speaker 2: it's like Gunnar Stockton's interception.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It was a tip ball.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Like, how much of that is on him versus how
- 4:37Speaker 2: much that is on just a great defensive play. Like,
- 4:39Speaker 2: he's been near perfect, and then it's Trinidad Chambliss. Best
- 4:43Speaker 2: of luck stopping him in the fourth quarter.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Missouri's defense, you alluded to them just a little bit.
- 4:50Speaker 1: They obviously found a lot of success against a Florida
- 4:53Speaker 1: offense that was rolling. Now, I know Florida's offense the
- 4:56Speaker 1: last two weeks against Missouri and South Carolina has been
- 4:59Speaker 1: anything but rolling. It's been like a square trying to roll.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But Missouri's defense figured something out there. Obviously, Florida's primary
- 5:07Speaker 1: attack is the running game. it's not necessarily what you
- 5:12Speaker 1: worry about as much. Not that you don't worry at
- 5:14Speaker 1: all about the running game with Ole Miss, but again,
- 5:17Speaker 1: it's Trinidad, right? It's slowing him down in the fourth quarter,
- 5:19Speaker 1: stopping him in the second half when they don't look
- 5:22Speaker 1: like they have a prayer. It's the way that he
- 5:24Speaker 1: continues to fight back is Missouri's defense built to slow
- 5:29Speaker 1: down that kind of passing attack.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I mean, let's be real. I, Nobody's been able to
- 5:34Speaker 2: do it at a consistent rate, so I'm not going
- 5:36Speaker 2: to say that Missouri can. Now, what would be interesting
- 5:38Speaker 2: is that Mizzou is one of the top 10 teams
- 5:41Speaker 2: in college football in pressure rates, pass rush, win rate.
- 5:45Speaker 2: They've done a really nice job underneath Corey Batun, who
- 5:47Speaker 2: deserves all the credit in the world for being a
- 5:49Speaker 2: Broyles Award contender and maybe even a head coach in
- 5:52Speaker 2: waiting somewhere because of how well he's been able to
- 5:54Speaker 2: adapt with 11.
- 5:55Speaker 3: New defensive starters.
- 5:57Speaker 2: But regardless of how you want to feel, Getting pressure
- 6:01Speaker 2: on Trinidad Chambliss is like basically trying to catch the naked,
- 6:04Speaker 2: greased-up deaf.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Guy from Family Guy. Like, best of luck. It's like,
- 6:09Speaker 3: that's the level of what you're doing behind the line
- 6:11Speaker 3: of scrimmage.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And the problem is, Trinidad plays a game that allows
- 6:15Speaker 2: him to be able to just wait for receivers to
- 6:17Speaker 2: get open at some capacity. Even if it's just for
- 6:19Speaker 2: a little flip to Traylon Ray for a gain of 11.
- 6:23Speaker 2: That leaves a lot of questions in a team's secondary
- 6:26Speaker 2: if it's not polished.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And entering this game... Mizzou's.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Secondary is 91st in the country defending the pass. So
- 6:32Speaker 2: this is actually a winning recipe in favor of a
- 6:36Speaker 2: trade at Chambliss. So what you really need to do
- 6:38Speaker 2: is you either need to take away the passing attack,
- 6:40Speaker 2: And then kind of look at the running game headline
- 6:42Speaker 2: by Kiwan Lacey, who, remember, didn't play in the second
- 6:44Speaker 2: half of that Vanderbilt game. Now, the game was out
- 6:46Speaker 2: of reach, and they didn't want to risk him getting
- 6:48Speaker 2: injured even further after already dealing with the injury that
- 6:50Speaker 2: kept him out of the Florida game because he's needed
- 6:52Speaker 2: for this weekend. But you would maybe want to risk
- 6:55Speaker 2: playing more press man coverage with, like, Chris Graves shutting
- 6:57Speaker 2: down a Deuce Alexander on a consistent rate to then
- 7:00Speaker 2: force the rushing attack to get going. Because like it
- 7:02Speaker 2: or not, Kiwan's been hurt this year, and that's no
- 7:06Speaker 2: fault of his. But Ole Miss' rushing attack has not
- 7:09Speaker 2: been as potent as we thought it was going to
- 7:11Speaker 2: be leading into the season. That's actually been one of
- 7:14Speaker 2: their weaker points on early downs of not being able
- 7:16Speaker 2: to get explosive runs after contact. When they get to
- 7:19Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage, it's like a gain of two
- 7:21Speaker 2: and then, hey, second and eight. Hey, gain of two,
- 7:23Speaker 2: third and six. You know you're forced to pass in
- 7:25Speaker 2: that situation. So if you are a team like Mizzou,
- 7:29Speaker 2: try to take away the passing attack. Take away the
- 7:31Speaker 2: deep shots down the field. And say, if you're going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to beat us, you're going to beat us with our
- 7:35Speaker 2: defensive line. That probably can do a really nice job
- 7:38Speaker 2: of over-repowering your offensive line on certain sets.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And win through the ground.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And maybe it comes with busted-up plays by Trinidad where, hey, look,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I'm waiting for a receiver to get on open for
- 7:47Speaker 2: a 20-yard gain downfield.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Oh, nobody's there. Zip, zap, zap. Now I got a
- 7:51Speaker 3: gain of 12 on my legs, and I slide. That
- 7:52Speaker 3: may be the way you win.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But I would look at it from the standpoint of
- 7:55Speaker 2: let the run be the reason why Ole Miss beats you.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Because with the passing attack, we know how dangerous it
- 8:01Speaker 2: can be.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And that's what we.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Point forward to your team, like Mizzou in the secondary.
- 8:05Speaker 2: And the run defense has been lethal. So even if
- 8:08Speaker 2: you do get Trinidad champions out in space... the way
- 8:10Speaker 2: that Rodriguez is playing, the way that Woodyard's playing at
- 8:13Speaker 2: the linebacker spot, second level, they should be able to
- 8:16Speaker 2: bring him on down for a gain of four, gain
- 8:18Speaker 2: of five. It still keeps you from connecting on that
- 8:20Speaker 2: first down. It still keeps you from those big explosives
- 8:23Speaker 2: kind of getting on into the field and making it
- 8:24Speaker 2: a rampant play.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Right now on our CFA Top 25, like I mentioned,
- 8:29Speaker 1: Ole Miss currently sitting at 9th, Missouri at 11th. If
- 8:34Speaker 1: Utah wasn't in the way right there, we'd have a
- 8:36Speaker 1: Top 10 matchup this weekend. You can go vote at CFATop25. com.
- 8:42Speaker 1: There's a media section. There's a fan section. You can
- 8:45Speaker 1: request the media section. I've gotten some funny ones there already.
- 8:49Speaker 1: But go check out CFATop25. com. Get into our poll. We
- 8:54Speaker 1: appreciate you if you go check that out.
- 8:55Speaker 3: There is no cost.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You just log in and you can vote on who
- 8:59Speaker 1: you think the top 25 teams in this sport are.
- 9:03Speaker 1: All right. Six and a half point favorite is Ole
- 9:06Speaker 1: Miss in this game. Do you like them to cover?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I kind of like it to be a little closer.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I think I would just ride with the home team here.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I think this will be a really even matchup. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: think that's a tough place to play.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I do.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I am a Missouri believer. As many jokes as I've
- 9:22Speaker 1: made about, you know, drink winning the big game or
- 9:24Speaker 1: what his record is against top, you know, fit teams
- 9:27Speaker 1: that have finished above 500, which we'll see if Florida
- 9:29Speaker 1: can do that to get him his first one. He
- 9:32Speaker 1: could certainly pick one up here. Cause I think Ole
- 9:34Speaker 1: Miss will finish above top above 500. I think I
- 9:37Speaker 1: like Ole Miss here. I think I just have a
- 9:39Speaker 1: little more confidence in Trinidad, but I think it's really close.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think it's like 34-31. A lot of points in
- 9:45Speaker 1: this one. Give me the over because I think it's 59.5.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But give me Ole Miss and a really close one
- 9:50Speaker 1: at home. But what do you have here?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you look at Mizzou. Again, they're a
- 9:54Speaker 2: top 10 run defense in the country. So that's been
- 9:57Speaker 2: their strength this season. And credit where credit's due.
- 9:59Speaker 3: They're fantastic.
- 10:00Speaker 2: At that.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Meanwhile, you have Ole Miss, they're 111th in rushing this year.
- 10:03Speaker 3: My bad.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 3: They're number 111th in rushing this year.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And you're going up against Jamal Roberts and Jamal Roberts
- 10:08Speaker 2: is coming off a back-to-back gains where he hit over
- 10:11Speaker 2: 200 rushing yards. And TJ, just a reminder, he did
- 10:13Speaker 2: it in two different fashions. In the Florida game, He
- 10:16Speaker 2: had the two big breakaway runs, one of 60 plus,
- 10:18Speaker 2: one of 70 plus. So people will go ahead and say, well,
- 10:21Speaker 2: if you take those runs out, he's only like at 110.
- 10:23Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Only 110.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Only 110.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Then you take away, then you go look at the
- 10:28Speaker 2: game against, then you go look at the game last
- 10:30Speaker 2: week against Texas A & M.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Oh, he asked for 222. And it's like, oh, he
- 10:33Speaker 3: has that 59 yard house called. okay, cool, so what, $ 1.
- 10:38Speaker 2: 88? Like, is that what we want to go with
- 10:40Speaker 2: at this point? So the strength right now of what
- 10:43Speaker 2: I think could be this offense is the understanding of
- 10:46Speaker 2: what a Pete Golding defense is for Austin Simmons and
- 10:48Speaker 2: Caden Lee and the rushing attack of Jamal Roberts. But
- 10:52Speaker 2: on the flip side, I think you also look at
- 10:54Speaker 2: Pete Golding. Pete Golding went up against Austin Simmons for
- 10:59Speaker 2: an entire spring and then an entire fall camp. And
- 11:03Speaker 2: the reason that's important is because He was supposed to
- 11:05Speaker 2: be the starter at Ole Miss. The only reason why
- 11:08Speaker 2: they didn't go back to him was because of Trinidad
- 11:09Speaker 2: was playing so well and turning into the human folklore
- 11:12Speaker 2: that currently resides in Oxford, Mississippi these days.
- 11:15Speaker 3: And so he's not a bad quarterback, but if anybody.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Knows how to make it work against him, it's the
- 11:21Speaker 2: former defensive coordinator now turned head coach. It's the same
- 11:24Speaker 2: staff that was able to kind of dial up schemes
- 11:26Speaker 2: and formations when Lane was calling the shots. So I
- 11:28Speaker 2: think that does lean a little bit more in favor
- 11:30Speaker 2: of Ole Miss in this game.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I've gone back and forth. I think this game is
- 11:33Speaker 3: going to go back and forth.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I really look at, can you get Deuce Alexander to
- 11:38Speaker 2: have one big breakaway play? What about Donovan O? Donovan
- 11:42Speaker 2: O is top 15 in receptions and receiving yards this season.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Both Mizzou's receivers are top 15. That's how great that
- 11:48Speaker 2: they've been playing this year. Can you just have a
- 11:50Speaker 2: couple of big-time breakaway moments where, hey, it's a gain
- 11:53Speaker 2: of 15, no, it's a gain of 64, because it's
- 11:55Speaker 2: bad open field tackling.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Is that going to be an issue for Ole Miss still?
- 11:58Speaker 3: And if you are Ole Miss.
- 12:00Speaker 2: In this game, Deuce Alexander, Traylon Ray, what do you
- 12:03Speaker 2: get from maybe a Jonte Cook? Can one of them
- 12:05Speaker 2: just have a big-time gain of 17, gain of 19.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Anything like that?
- 12:11Speaker 2: I think right now it's very easy for me to
- 12:15Speaker 2: look and say, I'm not doubting Traylon Chambers in the
- 12:19Speaker 2: fourth quarter.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm just not doing it. Back and forth battle for me,
- 12:23Speaker 3: I think for right now. Yeah, Ole Miss. Ole Miss wins.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'll go 37-31. Right on that line. Actually, you know what? 37-34.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I think Mizzou finds a way to get a backdoor cover.
- 12:39Speaker 3: But somehow, someway, Ole Miss continues there.
- 12:41Speaker 2: One lost season ahead in Oxford before they got to
- 12:44Speaker 2: go down to Austin to play soft against Texas.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Cole Thompson, SEC unfiltered the power to check them out
- 12:50Speaker 1: on social media. We appreciate you, bud. We appreciate our
- 12:52Speaker 1: friends over at prize picks. Again, all new users play $ 5,
