- 0:28Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking holidays.
- 0:34The next part, part 4, which is all about actually going to
- 0:38blend these subjects together because I think they go
- 0:41together, which is getting people presents and smart
- 0:45spending. So the holidays can be super
- 0:48expensive and people stress out about the money portion of the
- 0:51holidays constantly. But the real root cause of that
- 0:55is buying presents for people and creating experiences for
- 0:59people, food, all of it. They all come into that spending
- 1:03piece and boy oh boy, it is a big punch in the face for a lot
- 1:09of my clients and a lot of people that I've talked to over
- 1:11the years. They really struggle with this
- 1:14because it is expensive. And right now, the world the way
- 1:19that it is, the prices have gone up and people are definitely
- 1:24aware that they are spending more.
- 1:26So how do you navigate this? Well, if you start ahead of
- 1:29time, which is why we're doing this so early to have this
- 1:33thought process of, OK, I'm going to give more thoughtful
- 1:36gifts. I'm not saying you give
- 1:38inexpensive gifts. What I'm saying is you give
- 1:40thoughtful gifts. And those gifts mean something
- 1:44to people. And the and the when they mean
- 1:47something to people. It doesn't have to be expensive,
- 1:50but it has to be well thought out.
- 1:52So as any of you who are listening know if you're a
- 1:56regular listener, I'm very into my gardens.
- 1:59It's a big part of my mental health as well as it's a huge
- 2:03piece of what I love to teach all of you because there's so
- 2:06many lessons in it now. The gardens are something that I
- 2:11have. Always done with my dad,
- 2:13vegetable gardens, but getting into flowers with something that
- 2:16I just loved doing and love to continue to do.
- 2:20And a couple years ago we had as part as a regular part of our
- 2:25holiday, we have a book exchange on Christmas Eve among our
- 2:31family. So each one of us buys a book
- 2:33for the others, and it's a nice exchange because you're giving
- 2:38somebody something that you think will matter to them.
- 2:40Well. There was a book a couple years
- 2:42ago called Cut Flower Garden by Aaron Benzocaine and this book
- 2:49my husband gave me changed my whole world because she talked
- 2:54about in this book how you create a cut flower garden and
- 2:58it's seasonal so you can work through.
- 3:01Where you are, you can figure out what will grow.
- 3:04You can learn everything that you need to about creating your
- 3:07own cut flower garden. And this book meant so much to
- 3:10me. And this book was under $30 and
- 3:14this book was the best gift that I got.
- 3:17That that year, like, legitimately the best gift that
- 3:20emotionally that I got that year.
- 3:22Was it the most expensive? No.
- 3:24But it was the one that was the most thoughtful because it was
- 3:27something I had been talking about and something that I felt
- 3:30would like really be a year. A gift of just a constant
- 3:35giving. Because everything that I'm
- 3:36growing in there comes back to me and in it reminds me of the
- 3:40gift, reminds me of what he did. So it was super thoughtful now.
- 3:45For those of you who are thinking, gosh, he must nail it
- 3:48all the time, no, that would be a big.
- 3:51However, he did that time and the point is that this is a
- 3:56process of understanding that never, never do.
- 4:00You have to give things that are expensive to get that feeling.
- 4:04It's about the thoughtfulness. So combining the idea of what do
- 4:08I know about this person? What do I think matters to this
- 4:12person? What are the things that will
- 4:14make them feel special? That's the part of this.
- 4:17And it also ties back to your budget, because not all of those
- 4:20things are going to be expensive or have to be expensive.
- 4:24So if you've never done the exercise of saying, let me sit
- 4:26down and write out who are the people we all write our list
- 4:29about who we have to buy something for?
- 4:31And then we typically write down what we're getting next to them
- 4:33just so we have a box we can take and then cross it off.
- 4:36But what if it was different? What if you sat and wrote out
- 4:38what each person? You knew about each person that
- 4:41you loved, about each person. What if you sat and had a page
- 4:44that just from a place of even just trying to be more mindful
- 4:48about the people in your world and how much you love them?
- 4:51And you sat down and you said, OK, this is what I know about
- 4:54this person, this is what I love about this person.
- 4:57And then you could figure out what are the types of things
- 4:59that would be thoughtful gifts for this type of person that
- 5:03would change everything, and it would change it for you too.
- 5:06Because now you've got this very concrete path of not allowing
- 5:10yourself to overspend as well as you've done an exercise of being
- 5:15thoughtful about them as people and, you know, having gratitude
- 5:18just in general for them in your life and.
- 5:22Giving thoughtful gifts instead of giving gifts that just are
- 5:26ticking the box because we're not just box tickers.
- 5:29If you're here so have some fun with this.
- 5:32Try to be creative and make it a memorable Christmas with your
- 5:36creative gifts by thinking of outside the box.
- 5:39OK my friends, I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:42Bye.
