- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry, he hit seventeen homers while batting three oh five.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Pretty pretty, pretty good. Of course it's Jose Martinez. Jose, Hello,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and thank you for coming into Cardinal Territory.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Jim.
- 0:41Speaker 3: It's always good to get back to you and h
- 0:45Speaker 3: this way. And they all all the Cardinal fans, they
- 0:50Speaker 3: always gonna have in my heart, so very special.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Thanks for thee for the invite.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they're going to be very happy about
- 0:58Speaker 1: seeing you again. We should mention. Uh, we're talking as
- 1:01Speaker 1: you are in Venezuela. But how are you? What what's
- 1:06Speaker 1: going on in your world?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Well, it's it's a lot of stuff happening. Actually, Uh,
- 1:13Speaker 3: it's been it's been after my retirement. It's been a
- 1:16Speaker 3: lot of stuff that I'm actually doing it. I'm doing
- 1:19Speaker 3: doing some podcasts on some social media stuff and and
- 1:23Speaker 3: I'm actually working as a hitting coach here here in
- 1:27Speaker 3: uh In, Venezuela, with a with a new league that
- 1:30Speaker 3: is coming up. It's getting a lot of chances to
- 1:33Speaker 3: those players that they are away from baseball for some reason.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So actually for them.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Is very good to uh to actually doing something or
- 1:42Speaker 3: even even maintain that, or or actually trying to get
- 1:45Speaker 3: back in business, feeling pretty good learning the process. It's
- 1:50Speaker 3: always been like that out in my life. So I'm
- 1:52Speaker 3: actually enjoying life.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And I also see you're doing media stuff. I saw
- 1:58Speaker 1: on your social media you're holding a microphone, So tell
- 2:01Speaker 1: me about that, because I think that's really cool because
- 2:04Speaker 1: I remember interviewing you for the pregame show.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Well, there's something that I came up. I don't know.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Actually I met some guys that uh that I told
- 2:16Speaker 3: me that you might you might, you might be gonna
- 2:19Speaker 3: be pretty good at it. And I didn't know nothing
- 2:22Speaker 3: about TV. Actually actually been hanging out with a lot
- 2:25Speaker 3: of good guys and the good people that knows how
- 2:28Speaker 3: to do it like you and a lot of people,
- 2:29Speaker 3: and and you came out of nowhere. I think, uh
- 2:34Speaker 3: I had people that are knows uh In ben In
- 2:37Speaker 3: ben In in that TV stuff for a long time,
- 2:40Speaker 3: and and they helped me a lot, and they make
- 2:43Speaker 3: me feel comfortable.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And you know, baseball has always been something.
- 2:47Speaker 3: That, uh that I love that I play attention during
- 2:50Speaker 3: my career and actually before that. So I think I'm
- 2:55Speaker 3: not gonna say it's been easy, but it's a process
- 2:58Speaker 3: that actually is there and and I mean.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Actually enjoying it.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And I think, uh, your many new people, and it's
- 3:04Speaker 3: a new way to actually see baseball.
- 3:07Speaker 2: So I'm enjoying it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I gotta tell you that I remember you were always
- 3:12Speaker 1: camera friendly, like you were never intimidated by the camera,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and you have personality. I mean, that's those are the
- 3:19Speaker 1: two biggest obstacles. So I would think that you're natural
- 3:23Speaker 1: for for television and sportscasting.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think is that I think you're right on undred percent.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I actually enjoyed, uh, just having fun and being natural,
- 3:35Speaker 3: being normal, being humble too, and and and that's been
- 3:40Speaker 3: that's been that's been me for my whole life. So uh,
- 3:44Speaker 3: I think enjoying all the stuff that is there for.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Me is been a key for me.
- 3:49Speaker 3: And I in my is either in my professional career
- 3:52Speaker 3: a baseball player and now I'm actually trying to just
- 3:57Speaker 3: being busy and all the opportunities that is out there. So,
- 4:02Speaker 3: like I said, I think it's been fun. Actually it's
- 4:04Speaker 3: a process. I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that
- 4:07Speaker 3: I'm the best at it, but I know how some
- 4:09Speaker 3: people that be there for me to help me out.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, like it seems like your whole
- 4:17Speaker 1: adult life has been a journey. Ten years. You battled
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the minor leagues and playing overseas before you got
- 4:25Speaker 1: to the big leagues and Cardinal fans remember what you
- 4:27Speaker 1: did when you got there. But tell me what that
- 4:30Speaker 1: was like. Every level it seemed to hit. I remember
- 4:33Speaker 1: one year in the mind, I think you set a
- 4:36Speaker 1: record hitting three eighty four some I mean you never
- 4:38Speaker 1: got a sniff. What was that like battling through that.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Well, it's it was. It was a process.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Actually, I was in that team that my father was
- 4:49Speaker 3: a big leaguer, my family, I have family members that
- 4:52Speaker 3: I was baseball players too, and just carrying carrying over
- 4:58Speaker 3: this name of my Martinez. It was hard in the beginning,
- 5:03Speaker 3: but and then I just just make a separation.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Actually I'm gonna I'm not I'm not.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I don't know if I can say, like that and
- 5:09Speaker 3: actually separate that was my father and.
- 5:14Speaker 2: What he did to what I has. I have to
- 5:16Speaker 2: accomplish for me and make my own name.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And and it was it was a journey. It was
- 5:24Speaker 3: opened down, it was injuries, it was it was it's
- 5:28Speaker 3: the process.
- 5:29Speaker 2: It was pretty difficult.
- 5:30Speaker 3: But I think I have to I have to thank
- 5:34Speaker 3: God for that kind of process that I got me
- 5:36Speaker 3: here right now that I learned about the process, I
- 5:39Speaker 3: learned about people, about the game, how hard it is,
- 5:43Speaker 3: how hard it can be sometimes, and mental game, mental
- 5:47Speaker 3: game it was. It was unbelievable too because all those
- 5:52Speaker 3: times actually sometimes I have to stay for one month
- 5:56Speaker 3: or two months by myself in the complex just doing
- 5:59Speaker 3: rehalb me and the trainer and and in that kind
- 6:03Speaker 3: of process again got me the next year to like
- 6:06Speaker 3: more strong, strong, not even not even physicals use mentally.
- 6:12Speaker 3: So I was trying to do my best every single
- 6:14Speaker 3: year whatever opportunity was there, especially that year that he mentioned,
- 6:19Speaker 3: uh that it wasn't even on the rust and in
- 6:21Speaker 3: spring training and it was a pair that I was
- 6:25Speaker 3: playing one time every four four days, and then I
- 6:29Speaker 3: find out I just broke broke the record by the
- 6:32Speaker 3: end of the year, and when everybody and I thought
- 6:36Speaker 3: that was gonna get the change, I didn't get it.
- 6:38Speaker 3: So those kind of things that happens that you cannot control.
- 6:42Speaker 3: But I always mentioned that one guy that that got
- 6:46Speaker 3: me words that I'm never gonna forget, Like I think
- 6:50Speaker 3: this year it was Casey Casey catchment. I think this
- 6:53Speaker 3: year is gonna get you whatever you're gonna, You're gonna,
- 6:57Speaker 3: you wanna.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You wanna be.
- 6:59Speaker 3: So I just went back to Venezuela and trying to
- 7:01Speaker 3: start over, and and it happened. I think the next
- 7:04Speaker 3: year Karen has got me out of out of free
- 7:07Speaker 3: agency or when I was DFA by the Royals, and
- 7:10Speaker 3: the rest of the rest is history.
- 7:12Speaker 2: By help by Mike Shield. That the first team.
- 7:15Speaker 3: That I told me that I know what you can do,
- 7:18Speaker 3: go out and trying to be a good team and
- 7:20Speaker 3: like a good team that we know you you are
- 7:23Speaker 3: and and soon and also I was there playing in
- 7:27Speaker 3: the big leagues we know, with a basic organization in
- 7:29Speaker 3: the in.
- 7:29Speaker 2: The world.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And posting good numbers. To take me back to that
- 7:35Speaker 1: first game with the Cardinals, right, like, what was that
- 7:38Speaker 1: like after you battled and battled and battled to get
- 7:41Speaker 1: to that point and there you are in a big
- 7:44Speaker 1: league uniform, playing in front of a lot of folks
- 7:46Speaker 1: who are Rabbit baseball fans.
- 7:49Speaker 2: He was unbelievable.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I don't think from now, even though those years are
- 7:54Speaker 3: been through, have been passed, I feel the same talk
- 8:00Speaker 3: about it.
- 8:01Speaker 2: It's just because I worked so hard.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Uh, it's so most stuff happened to me to make
- 8:07Speaker 3: me quit. Actually and use it was always somebody or
- 8:13Speaker 3: someone that it wasn't the phone, and it was my
- 8:16Speaker 3: mom always like good things gonna happen. Keep working, Uh,
- 8:20Speaker 3: keep your mental, keep your mental, your mind, your mind strong.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Actually, and but that day I.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Used what was I was working to the to the
- 8:32Speaker 3: to the field and leaving all the process that actually
- 8:35Speaker 3: enjoyed a thousand percent.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I didn't sleep that night. I actually I walked through.
- 8:43Speaker 3: The Roman Roberto Clemente Bridge, and I took so much
- 8:47Speaker 3: pictures and stuff that that actually was unbelievable.
- 8:50Speaker 2: But I was first bad.
- 8:51Speaker 3: It was like I couldn't I couldn't believe because it
- 8:55Speaker 3: was so much stuff that happened to me that I
- 8:57Speaker 3: couldn't believe I was there. But over that I met
- 9:02Speaker 3: I think the best teammates on the word Yaddy Way no,
- 9:06Speaker 3: Carlos Gyro Munoz. It was so much good players that
- 9:09Speaker 3: it was in that cluehouse by that time that it
- 9:12Speaker 3: made me better and trying to trying to always every
- 9:16Speaker 3: day trying to learn about about that level, about the
- 9:20Speaker 3: process and stuff. So I was lucky to God that
- 9:24Speaker 3: in that time with those kind of players that it
- 9:27Speaker 3: wasn't that clowhouse.
- 9:28Speaker 1: For Cardinal fans love their players. There's no question there's
- 9:34Speaker 1: certain guys that they latch onto for some reason. And
- 9:37Speaker 1: you were a fan favorite. What are your feelings about
- 9:41Speaker 1: Cardinal fans and the way they embraced you.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I think, uh, they they make me better. Actually, they
- 9:50Speaker 3: make me have fun. They gave me that opportunity to
- 9:53Speaker 3: be me, to to interact with them on some ways.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I was actually chatting with every at it by by Instagram,
- 10:02Speaker 3: when I was going to the to the stores and everything.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I was there talking to them like I know them
- 10:10Speaker 3: from a long time. So that kind of fan.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Base get you because they make me.
- 10:16Speaker 3: They make you feel comfortable even though it's a battle
- 10:20Speaker 3: that you're gonna go out there and perform. For sure,
- 10:22Speaker 3: a hundred percent, I felt like they was they always
- 10:28Speaker 3: was there. The support was there all the bad times,
- 10:32Speaker 3: even though even though they don't believe it, it was
- 10:36Speaker 3: tough times sometimes and they was there giving me, giving
- 10:40Speaker 3: me that that how do you say, like family stuff? Like,
- 10:46Speaker 3: I feel like they was there more than nobody. So
- 10:50Speaker 3: even every time I was in that lineup, of course
- 10:55Speaker 3: I'm gonna do it for me, for my family, but
- 10:57Speaker 3: I feel like there was my family too, because it
- 11:00Speaker 3: was so much love, so much, so much good energy
- 11:06Speaker 3: and positive things that it made me better to do uh,
- 11:11Speaker 3: to do a work heart every day for them.
- 11:14Speaker 1: If you think back to your time as a cardinal,
- 11:17Speaker 1: was there one moment that sticks with you when you
- 11:20Speaker 1: think about that time, Maybe that's the moment you think
- 11:23Speaker 1: about more than others.
- 11:26Speaker 3: There was two moments actually, that moment that I hit
- 11:29Speaker 3: my first home run and then I actually didn't make
- 11:34Speaker 3: a play and we lost about it.
- 11:36Speaker 2: That's one.
- 11:37Speaker 3: That's one moment that I always always got, not gonna forget,
- 11:41Speaker 3: because there's there's moments, especially in baseball, that you actually
- 11:45Speaker 3: can enjoy and feel comfortable about it and then soon
- 11:49Speaker 3: enough everything can change.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And that gave me a good, good lesson. So after that,
- 11:55Speaker 2: I feel like I was on top of the world.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Said I hit my.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Home, first home in the leagues, blah blah blah, and
- 12:01Speaker 3: they sooner knows everything changed and it was we all
- 12:04Speaker 3: the media actually what happened in that play because we
- 12:06Speaker 3: lost that game, and and it was a process and
- 12:09Speaker 3: the second and the second uh uh, it was that
- 12:14Speaker 3: time when we clinch, when we clinch against against the Braves.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I think, I remember when Mike Shield told me to
- 12:23Speaker 3: gave gave that speech that I always remember, and and
- 12:28Speaker 3: we with that clue house, with all those veteran guys
- 12:31Speaker 3: and the feudals, hall of famers, me talking to everybody, uh,
- 12:36Speaker 3: saying that we can't actually get to the World Series
- 12:39Speaker 3: and win it. It was amazing for me. It was
- 12:42Speaker 3: kind of those moments that you never forget.
- 12:45Speaker 1: There is such a baseball tradition in your country in Venezuela,
- 12:51Speaker 1: all the all the great names that that have played there.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I'm thinking, like one, I'm an old guy, so I
- 12:59Speaker 1: think Louis Aparicio, Santana Cabrera. I mean, there's a ton
- 13:03Speaker 1: of them. What's the baseball culture like in your country? Like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: are you when you walk around do people stop you
- 13:12Speaker 1: and ask you for autographs? What tell me about what
- 13:15Speaker 1: it's like being you there.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Is It's kinda like Saint Louis.
- 13:21Speaker 3: It's that passion for baseball, is that passion for the player,
- 13:25Speaker 3: for history you like you mentioned they become Session and
- 13:31Speaker 3: Louis a Parisio, Mariior Dons, Miguel Cabrera. There's so much
- 13:37Speaker 3: players that that you always mentioned, and you think that
- 13:41Speaker 3: they're from Venezuela, and they they actually glorious, they hall
- 13:45Speaker 3: of famous here. Whatever happens. So for me, I always
- 13:48Speaker 3: go out there and they always stop me. They always
- 13:51Speaker 3: talk to me, especially right here when I when I'm
- 13:54Speaker 3: working right now.
- 13:57Speaker 2: In Marakai.
- 13:58Speaker 3: That after I got it for the team that my
- 14:01Speaker 3: father always played, I felt like I start over and
- 14:06Speaker 3: start from zero and and and these fans right here,
- 14:10Speaker 3: they they gave they gave me, and they showed me
- 14:12Speaker 3: so much love and and and and support that it
- 14:16Speaker 3: was amazing. Every time, every every everywhere I go, I
- 14:20Speaker 3: always like talk to him like like like it's normal,
- 14:23Speaker 3: like people here respect you. People people here even though
- 14:27Speaker 3: if if I'm Jose Martinez is someone that actually didn't
- 14:32Speaker 3: get to the big list or something, people here, uh
- 14:35Speaker 3: play attention to that and and and support all the stuff,
- 14:38Speaker 3: especially right now that that we want the world baseball
- 14:42Speaker 3: classes man, and it's been it's been amazing. Actually we
- 14:45Speaker 3: actually step out from all the expectations and stuff and
- 14:52Speaker 3: and it was a great time from our country and
- 14:55Speaker 3: and we enjoy I think, uh, I think that that
- 14:57Speaker 3: process of baseball is.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Gonna be better. Yeah. By you.
- 15:03Speaker 1: You're watching Cardinal Territory on the Foul Territory More with

- 16:10Speaker 1: So earlier you mentioned your dad, Carlos, major league player.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I'm just wondering what impact did he have on you
- 16:20Speaker 1: to get you to where you are now, to being
- 16:25Speaker 1: a former Major leaguer yourself, and also the pressure that
- 16:29Speaker 1: that came along with that.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Actually it's it's it's a pressure being a son of
- 16:34Speaker 3: a big leaguer, being a son at a someone.
- 16:37Speaker 2: That everybody respects.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Even even I felt like it was hard. Next to him,
- 16:46Speaker 3: he always wanted the.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Best for me. Uh.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Sometimes he was talking with a scousor and stuff that
- 16:54Speaker 3: he's not going to play baseball, he's going to go
- 16:56Speaker 3: to school or whatever, and I wanted a chance to
- 16:59Speaker 3: us to play. But by now and on, year by year,
- 17:04Speaker 3: I realized that he was right about it because he
- 17:09Speaker 3: knew that this blood is because of him. And I
- 17:14Speaker 3: always gonna gonna be ambodying about my fuderal and what
- 17:17Speaker 3: I wanted to do in life, so especially in baseball.
- 17:21Speaker 3: He knew I was I was gonna follow his steps.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So it was hard.
- 17:27Speaker 3: He passes away in in in the process was a
- 17:31Speaker 3: little easier, but all the expectations was.
- 17:35Speaker 2: That they were they were really, really high.
- 17:38Speaker 3: So like I said before, I had to separate that
- 17:42Speaker 3: because he was he was an amazing player man out
- 17:47Speaker 3: of Venezuela. They were saying that he was best tools
- 17:51Speaker 3: in so many years, and I never seen so much
- 17:55Speaker 3: good tools out of the player from my from nobody else.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It was like after that, the people that.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Always met or tell him that was he You father
- 18:10Speaker 3: did this for me, You fight, did this for for
- 18:13Speaker 3: for for me in this situation, and it was it
- 18:19Speaker 3: was a challenge, but I think I didn't went good
- 18:22Speaker 3: because it never started working.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Aside from being the son of Carlos, I'm sure he
- 18:30Speaker 1: passed along a lot of knowledge to you. Tell me
- 18:33Speaker 1: about what you learned from him as a youngster that
- 18:37Speaker 1: kind of shaped your your career.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Actually, my my pops was wasn't that kind of father
- 18:44Speaker 3: that I always tells you something. I think the way
- 18:49Speaker 3: he did it, he was just showing you the character
- 18:53Speaker 3: and all the stuff that you do actually can actually
- 18:58Speaker 3: take this stuff.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Like I'm going to the field with him.
- 19:02Speaker 3: He's talking with another player and I'm there listening and
- 19:08Speaker 3: he's telling them adises and I'm there listening. So he
- 19:13Speaker 3: showed me this because that's the way he did it
- 19:18Speaker 3: when when he was on his time. So I think
- 19:21Speaker 3: what was the best time for me and all the
- 19:25Speaker 3: players or the.
- 19:27Speaker 2: People that helped.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Soon enough, I actually play with them or against them
- 19:34Speaker 3: or there was they were my coaches and stuff. So
- 19:38Speaker 3: it was some conversation that they actually told me. Hey,
- 19:42Speaker 3: my father to father one time told me this and
- 19:46Speaker 3: blah blah blah.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So I was actually okay, cool, you know.
- 19:51Speaker 3: So it's a good thing that those kind of players
- 19:54Speaker 3: that my father helped bout actually was a big, big
- 20:00Speaker 3: time helper for me too. So I think that's the
- 20:03Speaker 3: way it was with him.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I know, you have a son and a daughter. I
- 20:08Speaker 1: hear that the son is a pretty good baseball player.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Tell me what kind of dad you are. Tell me
- 20:14Speaker 1: what what you're like around the house with your kids.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I think a support, I mean that kind of support
- 20:21Speaker 3: or whatever they want to do, I'm gonna be there.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I think if my son or my daughter wants to
- 20:30Speaker 3: be uh, my daughter wants to be a lawyer. I'm
- 20:33Speaker 3: gonna try to support because she wants to be a lawyer,
- 20:36Speaker 3: is my my my son doaughn't want to doesn't want
- 20:39Speaker 3: to be a baseball player. I want to be there
- 20:41Speaker 3: for whatever he wants to do. I think as soon
- 20:45Speaker 3: as I'm on the field with him or working out
- 20:48Speaker 3: with him.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Remind me that that kind of process. I didn't get
- 20:55Speaker 2: that kind of process as much. That's as he's living
- 20:59Speaker 2: with me.
- 21:00Speaker 3: So I'm just trying to teach him the stuff besides baseball,
- 21:06Speaker 3: besides the normal stuff, because you learn more the from
- 21:13Speaker 3: the outsides, like how life it is, how things are
- 21:17Speaker 3: in the world. So you have to play attention with
- 21:20Speaker 3: that first always. Of course, I want to I want
- 21:22Speaker 3: him to to to to.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Make make it to the big leads. I want him
- 21:27Speaker 2: to be successful.
- 21:28Speaker 3: But it's going to be a long and hard, hard
- 21:32Speaker 3: and complicated process.
- 21:33Speaker 2: And and I just wanna try.
- 21:35Speaker 3: To tell them that you have to use be you
- 21:41Speaker 3: and and thrust the process and and and enjoy whatever
- 21:46Speaker 3: you want to do in life. Because some some some parents.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Or fathers or or or whatever, they're.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Just trying to force stuff just because they want to
- 21:57Speaker 3: do or whatever they want to do. For me, I
- 22:00Speaker 3: just want him to have fun, and he's doing it
- 22:03Speaker 3: and he does it every single time. I think I
- 22:06Speaker 3: never seen my son getting mad about a strike out,
- 22:09Speaker 3: a strikeout or something. He just has fun and I
- 22:12Speaker 3: think he's I think his joy, he just he just
- 22:17Speaker 3: brings so much joy so for his teammates and and
- 22:20Speaker 3: the people that are watching play. That is amazing. That
- 22:23Speaker 3: makes me not make me happy. I don't care if
- 22:25Speaker 3: we strike out four times. I don't care if it
- 22:28Speaker 3: doesn't do well. Sometimes I just want him to go
- 22:33Speaker 3: to the process that is so difficult and hard that
- 22:36Speaker 3: being a baseball player. The first thing I told just
- 22:39Speaker 3: half from first and then trying to.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Get his after.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So so that's one thing I always I always tell.
- 22:49Speaker 1: You know, when I hear you talk about your kids
- 22:51Speaker 1: and stuff, you strike me as someone who should be coaching.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:55Speaker 1: That's not to say you can't be certainly a better
- 22:57Speaker 1: reporter than I am. That's most people that are in
- 23:00Speaker 1: the business. But you mentioned some about possibly being a
- 23:04Speaker 1: hitting coach or somewhere. Is that in your future? Do
- 23:07Speaker 1: you think what do you what do you think the
- 23:08Speaker 1: future holds for you.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I think I'm I'm one guy that I don't I
- 23:14Speaker 3: don't I don't like to wait for the future. I
- 23:17Speaker 3: like to be ready for whatever opportunity. Of course, I
- 23:21Speaker 3: love being around baseball. I would love to keep keep this.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Uh I'm gonna say, keep keep myself in this in
- 23:31Speaker 3: this area, you know.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And I love to to just relay this knowledge that
- 23:40Speaker 2: so much good players like Yady like way no.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Like I mentioned, they gave me a bat that time,
- 23:46Speaker 3: So I like, I learned so much about the game
- 23:49Speaker 3: that I feel like I have to I have to
- 23:52Speaker 3: throw it out. So that was that is happening right now.
- 23:56Speaker 3: And I'm actually doing hitting coaching stuff here. And and
- 24:00Speaker 3: it's a young team that actually was the perfect perfect
- 24:05Speaker 3: fit for me because it just some some young players
- 24:10Speaker 3: that probably don't take uh their job serious. So I
- 24:17Speaker 3: always tell them in a pretty good way that you
- 24:21Speaker 3: have to do stuff better to get better or different.
- 24:24Speaker 3: It's stuff different to get better. You here for a reason.
- 24:27Speaker 3: You probably didn't make it. You probably got released because
- 24:31Speaker 3: of something. But I don't care about that. I think
- 24:34Speaker 3: you got to show up with a work ethic and
- 24:37Speaker 3: you're trying to get better every day.
- 24:39Speaker 2: And compete. I always tell them to compete.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Out there, and and they actually doing it.
- 24:45Speaker 2: It's gave me.
- 24:46Speaker 3: It gave me goosebumps because every time I watch them,
- 24:49Speaker 3: how to how to do business and how they compete
- 24:52Speaker 3: is something that I always always wanted to feel, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 3: something that you can relate and get back and some
- 24:59Speaker 3: success success, you.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Know, and and.
- 25:02Speaker 3: If if it's some some way there to to be
- 25:06Speaker 3: uh in the organization that he gave me the chance
- 25:09Speaker 3: to coach, I was gonna be hundred percent.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And now we accepted with all my heart. So whatever
- 25:15Speaker 2: it is, like.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You said, if something out there for me an opportunity,
- 25:19Speaker 3: I always gonna take it up. About this, but I
- 25:21Speaker 3: wanted I wanted to get to get in the in
- 25:24Speaker 3: the line of professional baseball as as a coach.
- 25:28Speaker 2: But let's see what's going on in.
- 25:30Speaker 1: The feuder you mentioned Yadi. So Yadi during home games
- 25:36Speaker 1: is in the dugout with the Cardinals as an advisor.
- 25:40Speaker 1: He wants to manage in the big leagues. What do
- 25:42Speaker 1: you think of the idea of Yadi being a big
- 25:45Speaker 1: league manager.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I think it's uh. I'm waiting for that. Actually, I
- 25:51Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know why he's taking so much.
- 25:56Speaker 3: I think, Uh, I've been watching him. It's been winning
- 25:59Speaker 3: whatever he goes like always, and I'm always happy for.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Him because it's someone is someone that he always want
- 26:07Speaker 2: to win.
- 26:08Speaker 3: He always wanted to win, don't matter what's the situation,
- 26:11Speaker 3: don't matter if the ads is against them, He always.
- 26:15Speaker 2: There to to compete and win.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And and I think he's going to be amazing manager.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Especially I've been watching him too and follow him everywhere
- 26:25Speaker 3: everywhere he goes. So I'm actually pretty happy for him
- 26:31Speaker 3: and proud because even though just because his career, Molina
- 26:36Speaker 3: is who who's not going to be proud of him,
- 26:39Speaker 3: But I think as a as a friend, as a friend,
- 26:44Speaker 3: he's been he's been doing so much good stuff in
- 26:48Speaker 3: baseball and Advisor and managing and taking people together to
- 26:54Speaker 3: actually be good or be enough to actually compete out
- 26:59Speaker 3: there is amazing.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And so those those are the persons.
- 27:02Speaker 3: That I know, A big find of Hassigegeon, a big
- 27:06Speaker 3: fan of of a lot of managers. But I think
- 27:10Speaker 3: I'm fine on him already and how he he control
- 27:14Speaker 3: the stuff and how he manages, how he's character.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I'm managing the team. I think he's going to be amazing.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Last thing before we let you go, I mentioned you
- 27:26Speaker 1: were very popular with the fans. You were the guy
- 27:28Speaker 1: that made fun of me for driving a stock cheap,
- 27:31Speaker 1: which I still do stock cheap because I'm an old man.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I'm not going to get not to say it's a
- 27:40Speaker 1: newer one. I always get a newer it's black.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Oh black, blue color, but blue color okay?
- 27:48Speaker 1: But but nice tires, but no lights, no flash.
- 27:53Speaker 2: It's stock So come on, come on man.
- 27:59Speaker 1: All right, here's my question. We hope to see it
- 28:02Speaker 1: in Saint Louis at some point back at the stadium
- 28:06Speaker 1: so fans can say Hi. But there's gonna be fans
- 28:09Speaker 1: watching this, so I'm gonna give you a chance. What
- 28:12Speaker 1: would you say to the Cardinal fans that are watching
- 28:14Speaker 1: now to show them that you appreciate how they appreciated you.
- 28:21Speaker 2: For all Cardinal fans, I think you treat.
- 28:26Speaker 3: My family, you treat my friends, you treat me as
- 28:30Speaker 3: one of you guys, and I always gonna be grateful
- 28:35Speaker 3: for that, because you gave me the energy. You gave
- 28:38Speaker 3: me the confidence to go out there and compete every
- 28:41Speaker 3: day for you guys. I think whatever I win, my
- 28:45Speaker 3: family and everything, it was class sacked. So I hope
- 28:52Speaker 3: to go back and side Lewis sometimes and and and
- 28:56Speaker 3: be out there and that atm Affair, that it was
- 28:59Speaker 3: an amazing around that stadium, around the Bopa village is
- 29:06Speaker 3: an energy that no one can actually match. So I
- 29:12Speaker 3: want to tell you guys. I miss you guys so much,
- 29:15Speaker 3: and I hope for sure to see you soon.
- 29:19Speaker 1: That's awesome. We hope we see in Saint Louis at
- 29:22Speaker 1: some point. But it was great catching up with you
- 29:25Speaker 1: and uh and thanks for making time for us today.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Thanks Jim, and I think you have to put some
- 29:31Speaker 2: rents on you.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Jip, please never never, my friend Jose Martinez. That's gonna
- 29:39Speaker 1: do it for this episode. We'll see it for the
- 29:40Speaker 1: next edition. Hopefully that one won't suck.
