- 0:59Speaker 4: The World's of Virginal podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. We
- 1:12Speaker 4: got a lot to talk about.
- 1:13Speaker 5: I was one defensive stop away from the NOD. I
- 1:15Speaker 5: looked at Mike and I said, if they stop him
- 1:17Speaker 5: again here, I think this game is.
- 1:18Speaker 1: They didn't stop, so going.
- 1:21Speaker 6: For two up, nine down nine, I should say, is
- 1:24Speaker 6: is definitely a nerd mountain.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Can you please just give me one reason that doesn't
- 1:30Speaker 5: involve knowing what.
- 1:31Speaker 4: You need because you know what you need either way.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Because I know what I need no matter what happens.
- 1:35Speaker 6: If they do it this way right, then at least
- 1:39Speaker 6: they can try to find on site kick whatever the
- 1:41Speaker 6: case may be, to manufacture another possession.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Okay, So why can't you on side kick after you
- 1:46Speaker 5: failed too, because.
- 1:47Speaker 6: There's no more timeline.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, that's a dumb argument. I said this on
- 1:52Speaker 5: Sunday in the postgame show. I didn't credit you with
- 1:56Speaker 5: any of this. Being down nine doesn't ensure that you
- 2:00Speaker 5: will have two possessions any more than being down eight does.
- 2:03Speaker 1: He does not compute.
- 2:05Speaker 5: All right, Freddy, that was a big sign.
- 2:11Speaker 2: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,

- 2:19Speaker 4: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 2:23Speaker 4: at Jules Stadium. It's turned the page day. But there's
- 2:26Speaker 4: still a lot of things to talk about besides the
- 2:30Speaker 4: soft talk. A lot of soft talk, chalk talk, soft talk,
- 2:35Speaker 4: jets talk. We're gonna get to all of that. It's Paul,
- 2:38Speaker 4: it's me. Douse'll be by, Evan'll be by. Uh, there's
- 2:42Speaker 4: a lot going on. Paul's gonna have to leave momentarily
- 2:45Speaker 4: to film Douse. We'll be back. So people coming and going.
- 2:49Speaker 5: And hopefully I'll be able to come back. Yeah, once
- 2:51Speaker 5: we're done with that. But I think I think you
- 2:53Speaker 5: and I fred yeah, I think we rattled some people yesterday. Well,
- 2:57Speaker 5: we gottle bit.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I got a lot of feedback yesterday too.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot of it positive and and and some
- 3:02Speaker 5: of it negative too, But I think that they were
- 3:05Speaker 5: I think some people were a little uh jarred by
- 3:08Speaker 5: our reactions. For you, it was more about the current
- 3:11Speaker 5: team and the state of things being one and six
- 3:13Speaker 5: and gered Mayo's role in that and uh and obviously me,
- 3:18Speaker 5: I was pretty critical of Bill yesterday Bill Belichick, and
- 3:23Speaker 5: you know, some people thought, wow, that's a real example
- 3:25Speaker 5: of how these guys, even though they work for the team,
- 3:28Speaker 5: they've given us their honest opinions and they're they're pretty straightforward.
- 3:31Speaker 5: And others were just like, oh, you know, now that
- 3:34Speaker 5: Belichick is gone, you know you said.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Those things while he was here, Well, if you listen.
- 3:39Speaker 5: About those particular elements of him, hypocritical. Yes, I've been
- 3:44Speaker 5: very consistent. I've also been very consistent explaining how I
- 3:48Speaker 5: feel he's the best coach I've ever seen.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Both things can be true.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, so, and I stand by everything I said yesterday.
- 3:55Speaker 5: I'm not walking any of it back, but it doesn't
- 3:57Speaker 5: mean that I don't sort of understand the success that
- 4:00Speaker 5: this team had, you know, in the six titles. And
- 4:03Speaker 5: I don't believe that just any coach would have come
- 4:06Speaker 5: in with Tom Brady and and won that much. I'm
- 4:09Speaker 5: not saying that Bill's the only one that would have
- 4:10Speaker 5: done it, but I think he had a big.
- 4:13Speaker 4: One of the things that I've always said about Bill,
- 4:15Speaker 4: and again I'm not going to walk back on it now, obviously,
- 4:19Speaker 4: but he was always a great ets and O's guy.
- 4:23Speaker 4: But I always said he was, and I know that.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Forget about the drafting. I think there's more to it
- 4:29Speaker 4: than that. But I always thought he was just as
- 4:31Speaker 4: good being the GM of the team, meaning again not
- 4:35Speaker 4: just drafting, but just organizing the structure of the of
- 4:40Speaker 4: the whole administration, you know, keeping everything together.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Being the CEO.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Yeah, being the CEO, making sure the train comes in
- 4:47Speaker 4: on time, all that stuff, and you can see where
- 4:50Speaker 4: when people come in and have to start from scratch,
- 4:53Speaker 4: it's not that easy to do that.
- 4:55Speaker 5: You're right, and you've always said that too. Yeah, you've
- 4:57Speaker 5: been consistent about that.
- 4:59Speaker 4: But that doesn't mean that I can be I can't
- 5:02Speaker 4: be upset by him taking shots at Gerard Mayo. I
- 5:05Speaker 4: can still be upset with him for doing that.
- 5:07Speaker 5: And it's just like, by the way, if you go
- 5:10Speaker 5: back whatever it is, four or five months ago, when
- 5:12Speaker 5: when would when did the documentary come out? February February?
- 5:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, yeah, so we did.
- 5:20Speaker 5: We did a podcast series on the on on the
- 5:22Speaker 5: the documentary. It was no sig you and me. We
- 5:27Speaker 5: had some occasional guests. We were pretty critical of how
- 5:31Speaker 5: critical the documentary was of Bill Belichick.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Well, I well, really, well, I thought you were. No,
- 5:39Speaker 4: I I acknowledged that it was.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought I was.
- 5:44Speaker 5: I thought there was a lot of elements of the
- 5:45Speaker 5: documentary that were kind of unfair to Bill. And I
- 5:48Speaker 5: actually said some of these things when we had and
- 5:51Speaker 5: I will not be able to remember the name now,
- 5:52Speaker 5: I know Jeff Bennettt.
- 5:54Speaker 4: It was the author of the director.
- 5:56Speaker 5: The director's name I can't remember right now now.
- 5:59Speaker 4: So God like you know me.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, So there was there was some things that
- 6:04Speaker 5: I said, this is not that's not really the way
- 6:06Speaker 5: it happened. And when we talked, I mean, some of
- 6:08Speaker 5: this was on here, some of it was off air,
- 6:10Speaker 5: but it was a little bit of both, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 5: and I said it. I thought it was some of
- 6:14Speaker 5: it was unfair to Belichick. If this is not like
- 6:16Speaker 5: beating on Belichick as he's gone, is basically my point.
- 6:20Speaker 5: A lot of the stuff that I've had a problem
- 6:21Speaker 5: with Bill for twenty plus years is this.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Well, and and you know a lot of people said,
- 6:27Speaker 4: you know, since Bill left, they've taken shots in them.
- 6:29Speaker 5: They have like, oh yeah, yeah, the team, and I
- 6:32Speaker 5: think that's been wrong.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And you know, Girad and you know, and it's not
- 6:35Speaker 4: really like oh, it's just kind of like throwaway lines
- 6:39Speaker 4: that were like, oh, you didn't need to say that.
- 6:40Speaker 5: And there's been a lot of references to the roster. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 5: you know what they inherited exactly. We all know that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: We all like, why can't like it's it's some of
- 6:51Speaker 4: them are very.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Critical of the drafting from that Belichick did over the
- 6:54Speaker 5: last few years, and some people were a little bit
- 6:56Speaker 5: slower to Pa to come on board about this.
- 6:59Speaker 4: For you, it's amazing couples on either side, like you
- 7:01Speaker 4: say one critical thing of Bill and you can't say
- 7:05Speaker 4: anything like he was perfect. And it's the same on
- 7:08Speaker 4: the other side, like you can't you know, criticize what's
- 7:11Speaker 4: going on now, because if you do that, you're being
- 7:13Speaker 4: overly critical, like you can be fair.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Unfortunately, there's plenty of blame.
- 7:19Speaker 4: To go around, right, There's but there's no doubt.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Been a lot of missteps over the last part.
- 7:22Speaker 4: But there's no doubt the team was a mess Yep,
- 7:25Speaker 4: the team was left in a mess. It wasn't all
- 7:28Speaker 4: Bill's fault, but a lot of it was like he
- 7:31Speaker 4: took us and for whatever reason, I think he took
- 7:34Speaker 4: his eye off the ball the last couple of years,
- 7:37Speaker 4: particularly the offense. But I think he knew the end
- 7:40Speaker 4: was coming and for whatever reason, I don't think he
- 7:43Speaker 4: was on his a game and the roster was a mess.
- 7:47Speaker 4: And Bill can say everything he wants. It's the same guys. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 4: it's the same guys, and they're playing terribly and you
- 7:53Speaker 4: know they didn't play that great last year either, you know,
- 7:56Speaker 4: so you know all this like trying to off to
- 8:00Speaker 4: skate and you know, so I play the semantics game.
- 8:05Speaker 4: You can see through that.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree with everything you just said, and
- 8:09Speaker 5: I would say, you know, we just got finished with
- 8:11Speaker 5: the press conferences this morning. Your Drod just spoke and
- 8:15Speaker 5: then we heard from Dietrich Wise, Hunter, Henry and Drake May.
- 8:19Speaker 5: So I mean I think there's certainly the message right now.
- 8:22Speaker 5: It's an effort to sort of move on. You know,
- 8:24Speaker 5: we got the Jets coming in tall task. They all
- 8:27Speaker 5: recognize that it's you know, even though they're two and five,
- 8:30Speaker 5: it's a talented team. They know what happened about a
- 8:33Speaker 5: month ago, you know, down there. So I think there's
- 8:36Speaker 5: an attempt to turn the HH age here.
- 8:37Speaker 4: You know, how the best way is to get to
- 8:38Speaker 4: win this Sunday.
- 8:39Speaker 5: But right, and that's what Gerard must have mentioned that
- 8:42Speaker 5: four or five times. Listen, we're one and six and
- 8:44Speaker 5: you judged on your performance, and that's what it is.
- 8:48Speaker 5: And until we start winning games, these narratives aren't going
- 8:51Speaker 5: to change.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and he's I mean, right now is the locker room.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a lot of questions about the lot that's.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Almost superseded what's going on on the field. It's I
- 9:01Speaker 4: if I can be assured that these players are still
- 9:04Speaker 4: with their head coach, then you know, I'll settle down
- 9:11Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 9:12Speaker 5: And that's when you when you say, like, despite the record,
- 9:15Speaker 5: he was able to do the stuff that you talked
- 9:17Speaker 5: about being the GM, like being the CEO, keeping it
- 9:20Speaker 5: on the tracks for twenty years. Can they can well,
- 9:23Speaker 5: can they show that? Can they show that now it's trouble,
- 9:25Speaker 5: it's one and six. Can they keep it? Can they
- 9:28Speaker 5: keep it on board? Keep it, uh, you know, and
- 9:30Speaker 5: get it get it moving in the right direction, because
- 9:33Speaker 5: the last couple of weeks it hasn't been moving in
- 9:34Speaker 5: the right direction. So it's a big challenge that Mayo faces.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Yeah. So, uh, you know late news or news that
- 9:42Speaker 4: came out today is that Rogers is dealing with a
- 9:44Speaker 4: hamstring that kind of he tweaked on Sunday. Oh yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 4: so that's good news, you.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Know, injuries your fred.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You know, listen, there's no denying it. The last time
- 9:57Speaker 4: that Jets played well on offense was against the Patriots.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Right ever since then?
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, yeah, they played pretty well in the
- 10:03Speaker 5: Monday night game against Buffalo two but for a little bit,
- 10:07Speaker 5: but they just missed field goals would have won, that's.
- 10:09Speaker 4: True, but they couldn't get it into the end zone.
- 10:11Speaker 5: You know.
- 10:11Speaker 4: They they haven't been the productive team we thought they
- 10:14Speaker 4: would be with Rogers in that roster.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Yeah, and we'll see what happens, you know, with the
- 10:20Speaker 5: second week with DeVante Adams, if that, if that makes
- 10:23Speaker 5: an impact.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And Mayo mentioned that, and I would.
- 10:28Speaker 5: And this is on Aaron Rodgers, like he's done something
- 10:31Speaker 5: to Garrett Wilson. I think he's stripped away Garrett Wilson's
- 10:34Speaker 5: confidence in some way. He doesn't look it doesn't look right.
- 10:37Speaker 5: It doesn't look like the same player to me.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Is it Is there a chance that Rogers requires more
- 10:45Speaker 4: exactness when it comes to route running and he doesn't,
- 10:47Speaker 4: or just a.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Different kind of route running. I've never heard anybody. I mean,
- 10:50Speaker 5: you might be right, it might be about that. I've
- 10:52Speaker 5: never heard anybody complain about Wilson's route running.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Well, he did a couple of weeks ago about redlining
- 10:57Speaker 4: it or whatever.
- 10:57Speaker 5: That Mike Williams, Oh, that wasn't No.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I thought that was he was in.
- 11:01Speaker 5: The wrong spot. It was Mike. Mike Williams. He's gone,
- 11:04Speaker 5: he said, No, he's still there.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Was he I thought he's heard or something.
- 11:08Speaker 5: No, he's I mean, he's like not he got knocked
- 11:11Speaker 5: down a spot on the raw. He's probably like the
- 11:13Speaker 5: fourth receiver now, but he's still there. I think he
- 11:15Speaker 5: caught a pass the other night. But he's been I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 5: Mike Williams has kind of always been a big play receiver,
- 11:22Speaker 5: but not a high volume receiver. I think he's only
- 11:24Speaker 5: got like ten or fifteen catches on the season. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:30Speaker 5: I just like Garrett Wilson the other night the first pick.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Both picks that Rogers threw in the Steelers game were
- 11:36Speaker 5: both intended for Wilson. The first one was a god
- 11:39Speaker 5: awful throw by Rogers. You know, he wasn't open, try
- 11:42Speaker 5: to throw it through a guy got picked off. The
- 11:44Speaker 5: second one, he hit Wilson right in the hands on
- 11:47Speaker 5: a on a nice route down the sideline, kind of
- 11:51Speaker 5: in the in the hole, the cover two hole on
- 11:54Speaker 5: the sideline, and it went right off of his hands
- 11:58Speaker 5: and bounced right to a Steeler. So it just to me, Yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 5: they don't look like they're on the same page. Wilson
- 12:04Speaker 5: doesn't look like he's playing with the same freedom that
- 12:07Speaker 5: he did, you know when he ironically when he was
- 12:10Speaker 5: playing with bad quarterbacks.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, but they certainly look like they're
- 12:14Speaker 4: on the same page when they played off they did,
- 12:16Speaker 4: you know Wilson.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah, you know.
- 12:19Speaker 4: So it's going to be a tall task. I'm from
- 12:22Speaker 4: the other side of the ball. I'm kind of looking
- 12:24Speaker 4: forward to the the problems that this will present to
- 12:28Speaker 4: the Patriots offense because I want to see how Drake May.
- 12:31Speaker 4: You know how many times did Prissett get sacked last
- 12:34Speaker 4: time they played the Jets. It was like seven five There.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Were seven altogether, but two of them were May.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Okay, right, right, so five times they got to preset
- 12:44Speaker 4: and you know, the Patriots couldn't do anything. So I'm
- 12:47Speaker 4: looking to see now his third game, how Drake May
- 12:51Speaker 4: looks against probably the best defense they played so far.
- 12:54Speaker 5: With May in the game, I would say if the
- 12:57Speaker 5: Jets are healthy now, they weren't in Pittsburgh. They were
- 13:00Speaker 5: missing five of their top six members of the secondary,
- 13:03Speaker 5: DJ Reid, Tony Adams, Ashton Davis. They were all out
- 13:09Speaker 5: of that game. They had a bunch of guys from
- 13:11Speaker 5: the practice squad. It looks like Reid practiced or is
- 13:15Speaker 5: going to practice today, so maybe he's coming back. Sauce
- 13:19Speaker 5: Gardner is still there. He's the best of that group,
- 13:22Speaker 5: but they need read to Michael Cotter also missed the
- 13:24Speaker 5: Steel game. He looks like he's practicing today. So if
- 13:29Speaker 5: they're healthy, if that Jets defense is healthy, I would
- 13:31Speaker 5: totally agree it's better than Houston. So it'll be a different,
- 13:36Speaker 5: a different test, and the Patriots offensive line didn't handle
- 13:40Speaker 5: all that pressure and they didn't blitz a ton. It
- 13:43Speaker 5: didn't seem to me. It was like different stunts that
- 13:45Speaker 5: they caught them with and they blitzed. I mean, I'm
- 13:48Speaker 5: not saying they didn't blitz. They they did blitz, but
- 13:51Speaker 5: I just thought that they overwhelmed the Patriots in that game.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Yeah, so, you know, in a strange way, I'm looking
- 13:57Speaker 4: forward to the challenge.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you'd like to see, if you know,
- 14:02Speaker 5: because I think May's going to be able to get
- 14:04Speaker 5: himself out of some of those situations that Persette couldn't.
- 14:07Speaker 5: I mean, even in that game, May got sacked twice,
- 14:10Speaker 5: but he also ran like three times. It was only
- 14:11Speaker 5: out there for a series.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Speaking of May, I retweeted something that dan Orlowski posted.
- 14:18Speaker 5: I didn't see your retreat, but I saw the clips.
- 14:21Speaker 4: You know, So it wasn't.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Long way to set out two years.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Huh, wasn't. Wasn't Alasky really critical of playing him early?
- 14:28Speaker 5: He was really critical of him and coming out of college,
- 14:31Speaker 5: saying he needed a lot of time. Now. I thought
- 14:35Speaker 5: May had an interesting answer today. Don't want to I
- 14:37Speaker 5: think Ben Vollen asked him about what Olawski had said.
- 14:42Speaker 5: You know, it's like he was really complimentary of your
- 14:45Speaker 5: footwork and your base and timing, timing, and I thought
- 14:50Speaker 5: May had a really good answer. He sort of talked
- 14:52Speaker 5: about it and said, you know, like these are a
- 14:56Speaker 5: lot a lot of these things, the things that I
- 14:58Speaker 5: never did in college. We didn't have this stuff in college,
- 15:01Speaker 5: so like being under center five step drops, So.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Maybe I was good at it all along.
- 15:06Speaker 5: He didn't say it. He didn't say it because I
- 15:09Speaker 5: think he's too classy, and I think so far he's
- 15:13Speaker 5: just been perfect with what he has said. But I
- 15:16Speaker 5: think that's what that's what he was talking was like, well,
- 15:20Speaker 5: don't criticize me for things that I never did in
- 15:22Speaker 5: college because I never had to do them.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But let's just say that he let's for argument's sake,
- 15:27Speaker 4: let's say that he has learned some things since college.
- 15:31Speaker 4: I'd really be curious to know who's the main person
- 15:35Speaker 4: right now on the staff that's been coaching.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Well, this is one of the reasons why, And is
- 15:38Speaker 5: it Macado. Yeah, I'm starting to get some criticism for
- 15:42Speaker 5: my defense of Alex van Pelt and this is not
- 15:45Speaker 5: Listen Alex van Pelt is not my cup of tea
- 15:47Speaker 5: as far as the system. You know this, I don't like,
- 15:51Speaker 5: you know, run first kind of mentality and whatnot. But
- 15:56Speaker 5: his number one job is what.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Calling the offense and creating the architecting the offense.
- 16:02Speaker 5: I would say his number one job is developing Drake.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I don't know if that's his job. And now everybody,
- 16:08Speaker 5: but now everybody's just going to say, well May did this.
- 16:12Speaker 5: May was just better than you know. May's got a
- 16:15Speaker 5: work ethic, like he's getting no credit for it at all. Right,
- 16:18Speaker 5: And I'm not telling you that Drake May is a
- 16:20Speaker 5: product of Alex van Pelt, because I don't believe that's
- 16:22Speaker 5: true either. But I'm giving him some credit for Drake
- 16:25Speaker 5: May looking as good as.
- 16:26Speaker 4: He's looked in the two. He hasn't ruined him.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I'm giving him credit for he looks a lot better
- 16:30Speaker 5: than he did in the summer.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Right, I I agree. That's why I'm wondering. Honestly, I'm curious, curious,
- 16:36Speaker 4: like who is the main person that is working on
- 16:40Speaker 4: those the technique, the mechanics, uh, you know, the who's
- 16:45Speaker 4: in who's with him in the VR room, you know
- 16:47Speaker 4: that type of thing.
- 16:48Speaker 5: No, I think those are all fair questions. But you know,
- 16:51Speaker 5: whether it's Alex van Peltz, Ben McAdoo, TC McCartney, or
- 16:55Speaker 5: you know, or all of the above, I think that
- 16:59Speaker 5: they deserve some some of the credit for helping Drake
- 17:03Speaker 5: May look as good as he's looked in these two games.
- 17:06Speaker 5: He's playing better right now than he looked in the
- 17:10Speaker 5: summer in training camp. Yes, you know, on the on
- 17:13Speaker 5: the practice field, and that to me is a sign
- 17:16Speaker 5: that they're they're doing their jobs. Yeah, yeah, And yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 5: you're gonna I'm gonna complain about play calls because that's
- 17:22Speaker 5: what you're I'm in New Englander. That's what I do.
- 17:25Speaker 5: We're gonna complain about stuff. But I just I just
- 17:28Speaker 5: feel like it's been you know, he's the guys, you know, like,
- 17:33Speaker 5: what are their credentials, And I don't know, it seems
- 17:36Speaker 5: to be working. And I know what's going to happen
- 17:38Speaker 5: if if Drake May pans out and he ends up
- 17:40Speaker 5: being really good. Everybody's just gonna say, is Drake May
- 17:43Speaker 5: his talent went out and he was just he was
- 17:45Speaker 5: just that good, right, He overcame it. He overcame the
- 17:49Speaker 5: lack of you know, coaching.
- 17:52Speaker 4: But listen, Alex van Pel played football in the NFL,
- 17:55Speaker 4: played quarterback in the NFL. I mean it's worth something.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I mean, I know he wasn't you know, but.
- 18:00Speaker 5: No, he was an NFL quarterback. Right, There's a better
- 18:03Speaker 5: NFL quarterback than Danie Rolofsky. And like I said this
- 18:08Speaker 5: all the time, it's Harvey sounds like, you know, how
- 18:10Speaker 5: do you treat your enemies? I like Dan Olofsky. I
- 18:12Speaker 5: just thought that that was a little bit short sighted,
- 18:14Speaker 5: like he's going to have to sit for two years.
- 18:16Speaker 5: I think you'd probably like to walk that one back, right,
- 18:18Speaker 5: we all we all do it. I've done a million
- 18:20Speaker 5: of them. I just told you yesterday I thought that
- 18:23Speaker 5: Derek Henry wouldn't be a good fit in that.
- 18:26Speaker 7: Right.
- 18:26Speaker 5: We all say things that we regret. But all right,
- 18:29Speaker 5: I think you'd probably want to walk that one back.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So I don't want to start a whole new conversation
- 18:33Speaker 4: about the two point. But we were looking for at
- 18:35Speaker 4: least one emailer or somebody to give us at least one.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Someone give a reason other than you know what you need.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Kind of junior for Minneapolis. Right, Okay, I'm in he says,
- 18:46Speaker 4: didn't hear the show yesterday, but knowing Paul, he probably
- 18:48Speaker 4: had a healthy rant about the decision to go for two.
- 18:51Speaker 4: You were right. So here's the logic, he says. You're
- 18:55Speaker 4: down fifteen and you think you can rely on having
- 18:57Speaker 4: only two more possessions. The reason you go for two
- 19:00Speaker 4: on the first touchdown is that it gives you a
- 19:04Speaker 4: chance to win in regulation. If you kick an extra
- 19:06Speaker 4: point on the first touchdown, the best you can do
- 19:10Speaker 4: is tie the game in regulation and then play to
- 19:12Speaker 4: win in overtime. Analytics say that you have a slightly
- 19:16Speaker 4: better chance going for the win in regulation than playing
- 19:20Speaker 4: for the tie and hoping you win in to OT.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Usually I would be on Paul side, but with how
- 19:26Speaker 4: bad the Patriots have been this year, I think you
- 19:28Speaker 4: have to get aggressive in these situations and try to
- 19:31Speaker 4: win on the margins, however slim they might be.
- 19:34Speaker 5: So I just I just want to I just want
- 19:36Speaker 5: to apply. I mean, I'm being as serious as I
- 19:39Speaker 5: could possibly be. That is the first person who has
- 19:43Speaker 5: given me an analytical reason as to why you would
- 19:47Speaker 5: do it that way. You know, you guys know how
- 19:50Speaker 5: I feel. You guys know I don't agree with it,
- 19:52Speaker 5: and I right, that's not my points My point, what
- 19:56Speaker 5: I would like, what I what I enjoy about sports
- 19:59Speaker 5: debate is just that debating it. I don't want everybody
- 20:04Speaker 5: to agree with me, and I don't want everybody to
- 20:06Speaker 5: think I'm wrong. I want to have a discourse about it,
- 20:10Speaker 5: not just well, you know what you need, so that's better.
- 20:13Speaker 5: I know what I need. No matter what I do,
- 20:15Speaker 5: whatever I did, the result is there for me to
- 20:19Speaker 5: now understand what is necessary the rest of the way.
- 20:23Speaker 5: This explanation from was it's junior junior from Minneapolis. Yeah, again,
- 20:30Speaker 5: I don't I don't love the explanation, but this is
- 20:33Speaker 5: a that's a reason, that's a thoughtful reason. I'm trying
- 20:37Speaker 5: to win the game in regulation. Personally, that's not my goal.
- 20:41Speaker 5: My goal was to not lose well. And also I
- 20:43Speaker 5: think by doing it that way, you lose the game
- 20:46Speaker 5: with eight minutes left.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but also by if you if you are able,
- 20:52Speaker 4: even if you do it our way and you play
- 20:54Speaker 4: for the tie, if you've overcome that deficit and at
- 20:57Speaker 4: the end of the game you've tied it, you've got
- 20:59Speaker 4: the momentum. I like that. They don't believe in that, Yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 4: they don't believe in momentum.
- 21:03Speaker 5: I believe in that. I do too, But momentum could be,
- 21:06Speaker 5: as you know, as meaningful as the coin flip.
- 21:09Speaker 4: You know you've made a stop, you've scored again.
- 21:12Speaker 5: My point is, I want the other team to have
- 21:14Speaker 5: to play it out. I want to make I want
- 21:16Speaker 5: to put I think there's such a thing as game pressure.
- 21:20Speaker 5: I want to put game pressure on the opponent. And
- 21:23Speaker 5: by going for two and missing it, and I know
- 21:25Speaker 5: you don't go for two thinking you're gonna miss it.
- 21:27Speaker 5: You want to you want to make it, you want
- 21:28Speaker 5: to execute. But by going for two and making and
- 21:33Speaker 5: missing it, you take all the game pressure off the
- 21:35Speaker 5: opponent because now they know there's eight eight to twenty.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Two left, they need the ball twice.
- 21:39Speaker 5: We Mike as Mike do so gets ready to saddle
- 21:43Speaker 5: up and get involved. I just gave a nice golf
- 21:46Speaker 5: clap to Junior in Minneapolis because he just gave a thoughtful,
- 21:52Speaker 5: analytical reason of why down fifteen, cutting it to nine
- 21:56Speaker 5: you would go for two and the whole I won't
- 21:59Speaker 5: go through the whole thing, but the long and short
- 22:02Speaker 5: of it is it gives you an opportunity to win
- 22:04Speaker 5: in regulation rather than just tie in regulation. Again, Fred
- 22:10Speaker 5: and I.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I like that though, simple, right, but it's a reason.
- 22:13Speaker 5: It's the first reason I've ever heard what you have.
- 22:15Speaker 5: I've never heard it other than I know what I need.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Now you know you might have a chance to win
- 22:20Speaker 1: the game.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Right, So Fred and I both agreed. We disagreed with
- 22:24Speaker 5: the re that's but that's okay, Like someone makes someone
- 22:28Speaker 5: can have a reason for doing something. Someone else could say, no,
- 22:31Speaker 5: I want to do it this way. That's fine. Knowing
- 22:34Speaker 5: what I need is not a reason for doing something
- 22:36Speaker 5: because I know what I need no matter what.
- 22:38Speaker 1: It's amazing it took this long to get that, because
- 22:40Speaker 1: that's totally reason I gave him. I mean, how could
- 22:43Speaker 1: no one else come up with that in the statistics community.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Like, I'm sure that the people that believe in it
- 22:48Speaker 5: would say this, and it's just the people that go
- 22:50Speaker 5: them on to analytics. Yeah, like they don't really like you.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Know what I mean.
- 22:55Speaker 5: There's a difference between a true statistician and you know,
- 22:59Speaker 5: analyst as opposed to someone who believes in analytics, right,
- 23:03Speaker 5: you know what I mean, just.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Going off the book.
- 23:06Speaker 4: So, so, Mike, thanks for joining us.
- 23:09Speaker 8: Back from the locker.
- 23:10Speaker 9: Room.
- 23:10Speaker 3: What was the mood where the players friendly to that
- 23:13Speaker 3: none of them.
- 23:14Speaker 10: Look like Devik Mike.
- 23:17Speaker 4: What was it like in.
- 23:18Speaker 10: The locker room?
- 23:22Speaker 1: What was it like in the.
- 23:27Speaker 4: What was it like in the locker room?
- 23:28Speaker 1: I was, well, I went into the locker room first.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You know, it's now it's a little bit different, of course,
- 23:32Speaker 1: as I've laid out many times. So I went in
- 23:33Speaker 1: there just to get the vibe a little bit. But
- 23:36Speaker 1: it was hard to get a read on the vibe.
- 23:37Speaker 1: A lot of guys kind of empty, and guys were
- 23:39Speaker 1: coming in from meetings.
- 23:40Speaker 7: Uh.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And then key On White was gonna go over in
- 23:42Speaker 1: the other locker room, So I went to listen to
- 23:44Speaker 1: key On White and Kaishan Bouti. Those were the two
- 23:46Speaker 1: video interviews. You know key On White. Look, they asked
- 23:50Speaker 1: him about the video interviews. Yeah, the video interviews now
- 23:54Speaker 1: take place in the Revolution locker room. Yeah, they were live.
- 23:58Speaker 5: When you said video cams, I was thinking, was like
- 24:00Speaker 5: a web No, no, I don't know.
- 24:02Speaker 1: What you mean, no more webs. But you know, both
- 24:06Speaker 1: those guys talking about being soft, and I mean key
- 24:08Speaker 1: On White was, look, we've all been called way worse
- 24:10Speaker 1: than that. It's a reflection on the team. You look
- 24:11Speaker 1: at the tape, it's kind of what it was. So,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you know, we it's on us to play play better.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Good know, it's a good one. It was like, you know,
- 24:18Speaker 1: are you are you? You know, do you feel extra
- 24:20Speaker 1: motivated this week? He's like, we get paid a lot
- 24:22Speaker 1: of money to do this.
- 24:23Speaker 5: It's another good answer.
- 24:25Speaker 1: We yeah, just no bs from Keem White, which I
- 24:27Speaker 1: always kind of appreciate sometimes I think it's maybe got
- 24:30Speaker 1: him a little bit in trouble in the past, but
- 24:32Speaker 1: you know, just laying it out what it was. Kaishan
- 24:35Speaker 1: BOUTI same way. Evan was asking him a few questions
- 24:38Speaker 1: just about how he's been able to kind of rise
- 24:41Speaker 1: a little bit this year. I mean, I don't want
- 24:42Speaker 1: to overstate it. A couple you know, big plays over
- 24:44Speaker 1: the last couple of games. But it was interesting to
- 24:46Speaker 1: me because we always make fun of him not getting
- 24:49Speaker 1: his feet and bounce like that was like the thing,
- 24:51Speaker 1: but well, I don't know that being the thing, like
- 24:54Speaker 1: that being like what it was, And you know, I
- 24:55Speaker 1: always felt like he was kind of filling in in
- 24:58Speaker 1: that role and he didn't quite make the play, and
- 24:59Speaker 1: he's a rookie and he took a step back, but
- 25:01Speaker 1: in his response it was you know, I mean he
- 25:03Speaker 1: said he was like, you know, last year, Bill Belichick,
- 25:05Speaker 1: after one game, I didn't want I told the coaches.
- 25:08Speaker 1: This year, I think he swore, he swore, He's like,
- 25:10Speaker 1: there ain't no f and way I was going to
- 25:12Speaker 1: do that again this year. Evan, you know, asked him
- 25:15Speaker 1: follow up about, you know, just how he been able
- 25:17Speaker 1: to do it, and you know, just talked about his
- 25:19Speaker 1: attention every day, every looking at every day as you
- 25:21Speaker 1: know it's a cliche, but looking at every day as
- 25:23Speaker 1: an opportunity to get better and take advantage.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Of kind of the way I talked about him last week. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 5: last week might have been two weeks ago, but you
- 25:32Speaker 5: guys saying all the right things. Yeah, you know, I'm impressed.
- 25:34Speaker 5: I mean, the key on white stuff. I think that's
- 25:37Speaker 5: exactly how you should want to handle those questions, because
- 25:40Speaker 5: that can't be easy to be told that you're you're
- 25:43Speaker 5: playing soft. And let's face it, he's directing it right
- 25:46Speaker 5: at them because it's stopping the run.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Sure, well it's I think it's also running.
- 25:51Speaker 5: I know all the things that he said, Yeah, yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 5: I know all the different things he said, They just
- 25:55Speaker 5: they're allowing an average of one hundred and sixty five
- 25:58Speaker 5: yards a game on the ground. Since week two, they've
- 26:00Speaker 5: had some games where they've run the ball well since
- 26:02Speaker 5: week two. No, I haven't had any that they've stopped.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Ye, that's fair. Yeah, but you know they've they've changed
- 26:09Speaker 4: who they are in the last few weeks. They're there,
- 26:12Speaker 4: they are playing soft, and they've got to figure out
- 26:15Speaker 4: how to be tough. I think what helps in this
- 26:18Speaker 4: and what kind of helps him get away with saying
- 26:21Speaker 4: what he said is the fact that he has played
- 26:24Speaker 4: the game. Yeah, I think you're right at a high
- 26:27Speaker 4: level as a linebacker and you know, was not afraid
- 26:30Speaker 4: to get his you know, nose in there, and you know,
- 26:32Speaker 4: as a thumper. I think that kind of helped him
- 26:35Speaker 4: in this. I think otherwise he wouldn't, he would have
- 26:38Speaker 4: less credibility. So but still, I'm not saying that he
- 26:42Speaker 4: should have said what he said publicly, but I think
- 26:45Speaker 4: it's kind of helped him a little bit.
- 26:46Speaker 5: I don't, like, I don't have as big a problem
- 26:48Speaker 5: with what he said publicly as other people do. I
- 26:51Speaker 5: just I mean, it's probably not it's probably not something
- 26:55Speaker 5: I would have done, but I don't. I don't kill him.
- 26:58Speaker 5: I think he's trying to light a fire and I think,
- 27:00Speaker 5: you know, he's I think he's probably done some of
- 27:02Speaker 5: this stuff behind closed doors and doesn't feel like it's working.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, getting frustrated.
- 27:09Speaker 5: He is getting frustrated. I don't have a huge Like again,
- 27:11Speaker 5: it's probably not my style to go to go ripping everybody,
- 27:15Speaker 5: but I understand to me, like some of the other stuff, Mike,
- 27:20Speaker 5: I don't know. I didn't get a chance to talk
- 27:21Speaker 5: to you about the press conference afterwards, because I know
- 27:23Speaker 5: you go to the locker room. I was telling Fred, like,
- 27:26Speaker 5: just so that whole like interaction in the middle there,
- 27:28Speaker 5: because almost all of the male questions were related in
- 27:31Speaker 5: some way to Solft right, And he was like, yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 5: we just gotta you know, we got to stick together.
- 27:36Speaker 5: We got to prove people wrong. And I'm like, the
- 27:39Speaker 5: whole theme of the press conference is about the reaction
- 27:42Speaker 5: of your team from you calling them soft. Who are
- 27:44Speaker 5: you proving wrong?
- 27:47Speaker 4: Right?
- 27:48Speaker 5: Do you know what I mean? It's like we're going
- 27:50Speaker 5: to ignore the noise. Well you kind of created the noise.
- 27:52Speaker 5: Like so that's why I said, I don't have problem.
- 27:55Speaker 5: I really don't have a huge problem with Garrodd said,
- 27:57Speaker 5: but it's not exactly what I would have done. And
- 27:59Speaker 5: that's why, because you're creating like other I know what
- 28:03Speaker 5: you My guess is he's trying to light.
- 28:05Speaker 4: A fire unless he's like this.
- 28:07Speaker 5: But you also got to come with everything that was.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Going to create this.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Well I think he did.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and then he wanted people to go into the
- 28:13Speaker 4: locker room and saying, are you softy? You know just
- 28:16Speaker 4: what he wants. Maybe that's what the end of intended goal?
- 28:19Speaker 4: And if it's that's true, we got what he wanted.
- 28:22Speaker 1: He's just you're watching it in real time. And I mean,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I've said many times I love coaching. I just think
- 28:26Speaker 1: coaching it. I did it once for a year in
- 28:28Speaker 1: club college hockey, but it was one of the hardest
- 28:31Speaker 1: experiences of my life and just trying to get maybe
- 28:33Speaker 1: you can sit you No, I don't think I could.
- 28:38Speaker 1: But you know, you're watching a coach struggle through some
- 28:41Speaker 1: of this and learning and growing pains, and I think
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know that was what to me is just so
- 28:45Speaker 1: hard as a coach, and it sounds stupid and sounds obvious,
- 28:48Speaker 1: but you have so many different personalities to manage and
- 28:50Speaker 1: you know you've got one kid, you know, speaking from
- 28:52Speaker 1: my experience, who's you know, a complete turd and just
- 28:55Speaker 1: as it, you know, and you didn't even see it
- 28:57Speaker 1: coming through the whole preseason, and all of a sudden
- 28:59Speaker 1: you get to a game and you al sudden realize, like, wow,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I have a total jackass on my team who's going
- 29:03Speaker 1: to take runs at people and is going to be
- 29:05Speaker 1: disrespectful with the referees And how do I deal with this?
- 29:07Speaker 1: And you know that's just one of my own personal
- 29:10Speaker 1: examples of it. But you're seeing all these different fires
- 29:13Speaker 1: pop up, and you're seeing every word that you say
- 29:15Speaker 1: being thrown back in your face with you know, maybe
- 29:17Speaker 1: without contact sometimes and you know it's I mean, even
- 29:20Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni go back a couple of weeks ago, he's
- 29:22Speaker 1: bringing his kid up and he gets killed for that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You know, it's and he should have and it's it's
- 29:27Speaker 1: so hard to be a coach. And that's why I
- 29:29Speaker 1: have so much respect for the people who do it
- 29:30Speaker 1: really well and are able to keep a team together
- 29:33Speaker 1: and pull in the rope. And you know, I don't
- 29:35Speaker 1: want to want to become a Bill versus, but you
- 29:37Speaker 1: saw what Bill learned from his first year in first
- 29:39Speaker 1: years in Cleveland and what he took with him that was,
- 29:42Speaker 1: you know, hard to deal with sometimes. But I think
- 29:43Speaker 1: you have a little bit of an understanding now of
- 29:46Speaker 1: he wasn't going to trap himself. You know, one of
- 29:48Speaker 1: the very least things you could say about Bill was
- 29:50Speaker 1: he very rarely set a trap for himself that he
- 29:51Speaker 1: knew was going to get thrown into his friends.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Probably why he took it the other way and just
- 29:55Speaker 5: said I'm gonna say absolutely nothing. Yeah, because then that can't.
- 29:59Speaker 1: He's got to be a happy medium, right, There's got to.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Be a medium. Again. I don't like a lot of
- 30:03Speaker 5: people are saying, well, you want a transparency now. Yet
- 30:06Speaker 5: it's not necessarily what he's saying. It's that what he's
- 30:10Speaker 5: saying seems to change all the time, do you know
- 30:14Speaker 5: what I mean? Yeah, Like, I think you're okay if
- 30:16Speaker 5: you have a philosophy and you still you know, I
- 30:18Speaker 5: made the comment yesterday about like, well, a couple of
- 30:21Speaker 5: weeks ago, he was asked about his run defense against
- 30:23Speaker 5: Miami and he said, we have a tough team, we're
- 30:26Speaker 5: physical nothing. Two weeks later it's like, you know, we're soft,
- 30:30Speaker 5: We played soft, you know, like, to me, it's not
- 30:33Speaker 5: necessarily well, this is why you shouldn't say anything. I
- 30:37Speaker 5: didn't like that either. Well, but kind of find a
- 30:40Speaker 5: message and stick with it.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Yeah. On one of your morning shows today, they were
- 30:44Speaker 4: talking about, you know, other first year head coaches who
- 30:48Speaker 4: initially got criticized, you know, got off to rocky starts
- 30:52Speaker 4: and then kind of you know, recovered in later years.
- 30:55Speaker 4: And Dan Campbell was mentioned, and you know, we all
- 30:58Speaker 4: remember when Dan Campbell started. He had that opening, but
- 31:02Speaker 4: you know, and it was just like what does what
- 31:05Speaker 4: did the line We're going to buy a kneecap off right,
- 31:07Speaker 4: all right, and we're going to stand up and then
- 31:09Speaker 4: it's going to take two.
- 31:10Speaker 11: More shots to knock us down, all right, and on
- 31:12Speaker 11: the way up, we're going to take your other kneecap.
- 31:14Speaker 5: Did you see him? They had the Lions put out
- 31:17Speaker 5: a video postgame now locker room video.
- 31:21Speaker 4: He's just no, he's a nut, He's but that's one
- 31:25Speaker 4: of my points. So so like we all were like,
- 31:28Speaker 4: what is going on in Detroit? This this guy can't
- 31:31Speaker 4: do it? And you know a few years later, now
- 31:34Speaker 4: Detroit is one of the better teams in the league.
- 31:36Speaker 4: I don't think he's changed much.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I think he's that's who he was.
- 31:40Speaker 5: No, but what they have, I mean I would say
- 31:43Speaker 5: that that's a hard model to recreate. I mean, I
- 31:46Speaker 5: think they're exception that they have an offensive coordinator wh's excepted. No,
- 31:49Speaker 5: I'm not. But obviously their general manager has done a
- 31:52Speaker 5: pretty good job because.
- 31:53Speaker 4: They've got But my going back to if as long
- 31:56Speaker 4: as that's gets the credit for it, you just got
- 31:58Speaker 4: to be consistent and be you know, genuine you know,
- 32:04Speaker 4: so I think Gerard will will figure it out. I'm
- 32:06Speaker 4: hoping Gerard will figure it out, but like and that
- 32:10Speaker 4: he doesn't like completely, you know, change personality, because if
- 32:14Speaker 4: he does that, then he will lose the locker room.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Then then you're like, well, who are you? Are you
- 32:18Speaker 4: the guy that was you know, your first year or
- 32:21Speaker 4: is it the guy as long as you know he's
- 32:24Speaker 4: true to himself, he could be okay, But it's you know,
- 32:29Speaker 4: we've got to give him time right now, there's some
- 32:31Speaker 4: stumbling blocks that he's going over. There's no doubt, but
- 32:36Speaker 4: you've got people now, you know, fire him, fire everybody.
- 32:39Speaker 4: It's like it's it's so knee jerk.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he keeps going back to the truth
- 32:44Speaker 1: of it all, which is that winning kind of cures everything,
- 32:47Speaker 1: and you know, you win a game, you find a
- 32:49Speaker 1: way to win a game, and all of a sudden, people,
- 32:51Speaker 1: you know, start to the narrative starts to change. But
- 32:54Speaker 1: until that point, I mean, I think that.
- 32:55Speaker 4: After dem Campbell would be gone if if they kept.
- 32:58Speaker 1: You know, but like you know, and as Paul was
- 33:00Speaker 1: alluding to, I mean, it's you know, successive of drafting
- 33:02Speaker 1: good players, and it's you know, and I think you
- 33:05Speaker 1: can have a head coach like that, where like the
- 33:07Speaker 1: stuff about Girod like not doing enough on the sidelines,
- 33:10Speaker 1: like that doesn't really ring true to me. Like, you know,
- 33:13Speaker 1: it would make people feel better if he was, you know,
- 33:15Speaker 1: kneeling down in front of the offense diary, and like
- 33:17Speaker 1: that's not going to be him. I don't expect that
- 33:19Speaker 1: to be him. Maybe you can say it on the
- 33:20Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball, like we got into yesterday.
- 33:22Speaker 1: But I just need like like this, Jim Harbaugh, that
- 33:25Speaker 1: guy John Harball. That guy was John Harbaugh, the guy
- 33:27Speaker 1: that's drawing up plays. I never really picture him as
- 33:29Speaker 1: the drawing up plays guy. He's just kind of bit
- 33:31Speaker 1: the steadfast leader in the tone center of Baltimore for
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know, and allowing his coordinators to evolve their offense.
- 33:37Speaker 1: They've always had a tough and respectable defense.
- 33:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 33:40Speaker 5: It's a great point.
- 33:41Speaker 1: So I don't know, it's not gonna make me feel
- 33:43Speaker 1: better if all of a sudden Girodd says I'm taking
- 33:45Speaker 1: over the defense. As I said yesterday, you don't know
- 33:47Speaker 1: for sure, but he just he's got to get back
- 33:49Speaker 1: to that place we were after Week one where they
- 33:51Speaker 1: won a game and you felt like you had some
- 33:53Speaker 1: validation and like they need something like that because as
- 33:56Speaker 1: we're seeing right now, like none of us have seen
- 33:58Speaker 1: a six game losing streak, right like that goes back
- 34:00Speaker 1: to the mid nineties, before you guys were even here.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So this is new charted territory for me. And you
- 34:05Speaker 1: can just see how things Snowball saw it in burst
- 34:08Speaker 1: last year when they would start to lose games and
- 34:10Speaker 1: you would feel it. But I've been saying to Paul,
- 34:12Speaker 1: it's just a different feel when always in the back
- 34:15Speaker 1: of your mind you thought, well, maybe Bill's gonna pull
- 34:17Speaker 1: these guys together, you know, like you always because you
- 34:18Speaker 1: know he's capable of it. He's done it and it
- 34:21Speaker 1: just kind of never happened, Whereas like Gerard, you have
- 34:23Speaker 1: to earn that, we have to see it, we have
- 34:25Speaker 1: to believe that. You know that these guys are gonna
- 34:28Speaker 1: want to pull it together and rally the you know,
- 34:30Speaker 1: circle the wagons around him. It's an opportunity this week,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but it's not going to be easy.
- 34:33Speaker 5: And then you look at things like the way it
- 34:35Speaker 5: all the way it's all unfolded, and you looked at
- 34:38Speaker 5: the schedule going in, and this is you know, Fred's
- 34:40Speaker 5: old theory, like don't judge the schedule because you never know.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Like it was supposed to.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Be murderers rough Yeah, yeah.
- 34:47Speaker 5: It hasn't been like right, They've they've lost to a
- 34:50Speaker 5: one in five team, to a you know a team
- 34:52Speaker 5: right now that's two and five, like one.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Of the worst defense.
- 34:56Speaker 5: The Niners were supposed to be, like the greatest team
- 34:58Speaker 5: in the league and they're three and four. I mean,
- 35:00Speaker 5: like the only team you.
- 35:02Speaker 4: Thought of the Jets going in this season is certainly
- 35:04Speaker 4: offensively is not what you're going to be facing this week.
- 35:07Speaker 4: They haven't played well offensed well.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Just in general. I'm just telling what the teams in
- 35:11Speaker 5: general and the Jags are two and five, The Jets
- 35:14Speaker 5: are two and five, the Niners at three and four,
- 35:16Speaker 5: the Bengals are three and four. Like you was, these
- 35:19Speaker 5: were all supposed to be great teams. I think the
- 35:21Speaker 5: only team with the winning the Dolphins, was supposed to
- 35:23Speaker 5: be great, the two and five, only team with a
- 35:26Speaker 5: winning record that they've played in Seattle. Yeah, and there
- 35:29Speaker 5: four and three? Right, yeah, you know so, like I
- 35:33Speaker 5: think everybody thought it was going to be really really
- 35:36Speaker 5: hard the schedule, and like the schedule hasn't really been hard,
- 35:41Speaker 5: and yet here.
- 35:41Speaker 4: We are, right And I think that adds to fans frustration, like, wow,
- 35:47Speaker 4: we know we we don't need to be this bad,
- 35:50Speaker 4: and yeah, and yet here we are, all right. H
- 35:53Speaker 4: eight five five pasts five hundred. Is the ACE ticket
- 35:55Speaker 4: hot Line, I'm sorry, not the Ace ticket hot Line,
- 35:57Speaker 4: the TPX the TPX Hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Is the email address we've got. Let's see, we've got
- 36:07Speaker 4: people on the line. Now, we've got a lot of emails.
- 36:09Speaker 4: So people complain because they didn't get to a lot
- 36:11Speaker 4: of emails yesterday. Paul, Yeah, yeah, but we had so
- 36:15Speaker 4: many it was unbelievable.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Me and alcoholics, I don't feel bad.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Let's go to Dylan in North Carolina. What's up, Dylan?
- 36:23Speaker 12: Hey, how you doing?
- 36:24Speaker 4: Hey?
- 36:27Speaker 13: The first thing I wanted to talk about was with
- 36:30Speaker 13: the road to Hunter Henry on the second drive, astall
- 36:34Speaker 13: may like lead him like he threw the ball before
- 36:37Speaker 13: he even cut and I was like, I haven't seen
- 36:39Speaker 13: that since Brady, and it was just like such a
- 36:41Speaker 13: great thing to see. And then I don't want to
- 36:46Speaker 13: like say Mayo should be fired, but it's like the
- 36:51Speaker 13: season goes like how it is now with all the
- 36:53Speaker 13: off season, is there off field issues? Do you think
- 36:56Speaker 13: there could be a change or do you think, like,
- 36:59Speaker 13: no matter what, he's gonna be the coach for next year.
- 37:01Speaker 13: I don't think it'll hear guys.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Think Okay, thanks Dylan, listen, I I you know, barring
- 37:06Speaker 4: like something really bad, Uh, he will be the coach
- 37:10Speaker 4: next year.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think you have to give him a chance.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I mean, as I said, I mean, he hasn't really
- 37:15Speaker 1: coached before, so you yeah, you know, I don't think
- 37:16Speaker 1: we anticipated growing pains with a new coach too. That's
- 37:20Speaker 1: you know, something that you know he's gonna step in
- 37:22Speaker 1: in a couple of times. That's just kind of how
- 37:23Speaker 1: it goes when you're you know, not used to under
- 37:25Speaker 1: the microscope. But I agree. I mean, I think it's
- 37:28Speaker 1: nice to see on may. You know, Dan Rolofsky came
- 37:31Speaker 1: out with, you know, with a nice little film breakdown
- 37:33Speaker 1: of him complimenting her. My note, Bodard was you know,
- 37:35Speaker 1: positive on him. It's just that's the silver lining here
- 37:38Speaker 1: is that you feel like the quarterback is making progression,
- 37:41Speaker 1: and let's face it, like, let's give some credit to
- 37:43Speaker 1: Alex Mampelton and the coaching staff. Like I just think
- 37:45Speaker 1: it's so stupid now to be like, well, he should
- 37:47Speaker 1: have played from the get go, Like it's they're doing
- 37:49Speaker 1: everything possible to just discredit the offensive coaching staff when
- 37:52Speaker 1: like all, I know, there's not a lot to say
- 37:54Speaker 1: positive right now, but the kid looks pretty good. We
- 37:57Speaker 1: were progressing. He's Paul and.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I were talking about that before you came, and I mean,
- 38:02Speaker 4: it looks like he's better than even just the summer
- 38:06Speaker 4: forget about college, and somebody should get credit for that, right,
- 38:10Speaker 4: He's a little.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Credit instead, they should have played him all a lot.
- 38:13Speaker 4: They certainly didn't ruin him. Yeah, and he's certainly getting
- 38:16Speaker 4: some good advice because he looks confident out there. He's
- 38:21Speaker 4: on time. You know, all the stuff that Olafsky said
- 38:24Speaker 4: we saw as well, and so somebody's doing something right. Right,
- 38:29Speaker 4: it's at least through two games, it seems to be
- 38:32Speaker 4: going in the right direction. You know. Now we'll see
- 38:34Speaker 4: against the Jets. The Jets have a whole different defense
- 38:37Speaker 4: that he's gonna have to contend with. Certainly, the first
- 38:41Speaker 4: time they played the Jets, seven sacks between him and Brissett,
- 38:45Speaker 4: So they're gonna get after him. They're gonna and they should.
- 38:48Speaker 4: They should test the Patriots offensive line that will be
- 38:52Speaker 4: different than the first time they played the Jets. But
- 38:56Speaker 4: you know, I don't know if they're going to do
- 38:57Speaker 4: any better against the Jets rush, But we'll see. And I,
- 39:01Speaker 4: like I told Paul, I'm looking forward to this test
- 39:04Speaker 4: for the offense. I'm looking forward to see what may
- 39:07Speaker 4: can do against this you know, I think formidable defense.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Will he be able to escape? You know in times
- 39:14Speaker 4: where Brissette wasn't able to escape the first time they
- 39:17Speaker 4: played the Jets, Will will may be able to turn
- 39:21Speaker 4: some of those plays into positives. So, you know, weird way,
- 39:25Speaker 4: I'm kind of looking forward to this game.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Oh for sure. Well, I think that's what I'm looking
- 39:29Speaker 1: these last ten games. That's what I'm looking forward to most.
- 39:31Speaker 1: But I would say, like, don't you feel like there's
- 39:32Speaker 1: going to be like we just caution, there's gonna probably
- 39:34Speaker 1: be a bad drake. Oh yeah, there's gonna be like
- 39:36Speaker 1: one of those games where he throws like two picks
- 39:38Speaker 1: no touchdowns.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Whether it's this game or there's gotta be, it's gonna be.
- 39:42Speaker 1: It has to queue this up twelve thirty nine if
- 39:44Speaker 1: this show is happens. But I think you see that
- 39:50Speaker 1: with all the young quarterbacks, especially as like defenses start
- 39:53Speaker 1: to catch up a little bit with him, And yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I don't know, I'm not gonna panic when that happens.
- 39:57Speaker 4: How about down to Tennessee, Melvin? What's up Melvin.
- 40:04Speaker 10: In regards to you know of course that you know,
- 40:07Speaker 10: I just have the division kind of the coaches that
- 40:10Speaker 10: the thing and the players, and I think brazy hear
- 40:12Speaker 10: yesterday and maybe some point that you get your captains
- 40:15Speaker 10: evolved to kind of be that bridge, right, You want
- 40:20Speaker 10: your captains to kind of be the bridge and communicate
- 40:23Speaker 10: between the players and the coaches. So while they're going
- 40:26Speaker 10: through this kind of situation that they need some issues
- 40:29Speaker 10: to address. Would you be trying to let a lot
- 40:33Speaker 10: of your current players do a lot of the thing
- 40:37Speaker 10: or would you try to xerically going through it, or
- 40:41Speaker 10: would you try to like, not really, I'm not trying
- 40:43Speaker 10: to reach out and dissipac anybody, but maybe I need
- 40:47Speaker 10: Andrews or players like that, even though they're here but
- 40:50Speaker 10: not here if I want somebody to somebody in this
- 40:52Speaker 10: locker room just playing to step up bring this stuff together.
- 40:55Speaker 10: Or do you really feel like, how are you going
- 40:57Speaker 10: to go about making sure you have the right players
- 41:00Speaker 10: in place to rid this gap so that we can
- 41:03Speaker 10: get back out on the same page.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, thanks mom. But I mean there used to
- 41:08Speaker 4: be a thing where if you were injured, out of sight,
- 41:10Speaker 4: out of mind, you know, the coaches wouldn't want you around.
- 41:13Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying. I think there is some
- 41:15Speaker 4: merit to having a guy like Andrews around, certainly, but
- 41:18Speaker 4: I think it has to be the players that are playing.
- 41:21Speaker 4: It has to come from them. They're the ones that
- 41:24Speaker 4: are out there, the ones that are you know, playing
- 41:27Speaker 4: against the other team, having to you know, go through
- 41:30Speaker 4: the game plan, get ready for Sunday and then execute.
- 41:34Speaker 4: So the leadership right now, I think has to come
- 41:38Speaker 4: from within. It has you know, obviously it starts with
- 41:41Speaker 4: Gerrod that's, you know, the ultimate leader. But in terms
- 41:46Speaker 4: of the players, I think the leadership has to come
- 41:49Speaker 4: from within. I don't know right now who would step
- 41:52Speaker 4: up and be that leader. It's such a young team
- 41:56Speaker 4: in so many areas. You know, Dietrich wise maybe, but
- 42:01Speaker 4: he's just not. He's more like the kind of well,
- 42:05Speaker 4: at least from what I know, like the guy that
- 42:07Speaker 4: gets along with everyone, a great teammate. Not will, but
- 42:10Speaker 4: I'm not sure. He's the guy that will get in
- 42:12Speaker 4: your face and mf you as a teammate if you're
- 42:16Speaker 4: not doing your job. He's you know, I'm thinking guys
- 42:19Speaker 4: like McGinnis, like you said, Rodney Harrison. Of course, Brady,
- 42:24Speaker 4: you know, back in the days in Anthony pleasant and
- 42:27Speaker 4: you know, I'm going way back now, but these were
- 42:30Speaker 4: guys that will get in your face and set the tone.
- 42:33Speaker 4: And why weren't you you know, in the weight room earlier?
- 42:37Speaker 4: Why you walking in now? You know McGinnis would walk
- 42:41Speaker 4: through and the guys would be playing, you know, whatever game.
- 42:44Speaker 4: Why aren't you in your playbook, you know, because winning
- 42:48Speaker 4: was the most important thing to these guys. You know,
- 42:51Speaker 4: it didn't. Yeah, you're gonna make your money and you're
- 42:54Speaker 4: gonna do all this other stuff, but all of it
- 42:57Speaker 4: will be better if we win. All that other stuff
- 43:00Speaker 4: is better if we win. So while you're here, that's
- 43:03Speaker 4: what it's all about. And I don't know who that
- 43:08Speaker 4: person is right now, who's playing Who can be that
- 43:11Speaker 4: lead dog? I'm not you know, maybe it you know,
- 43:15Speaker 4: maybe eventually it's key On White, But he's only in
- 43:18Speaker 4: the second year, you know. You know, these these other
- 43:22Speaker 4: guys like they did stuff and they earned kind of
- 43:26Speaker 4: the right to be in people's face. I don't know,
- 43:30Speaker 4: I know it's but right it starts with your Rod.
- 43:33Speaker 4: He's got to be the guy right now because of
- 43:35Speaker 4: the inexperience of the rest of the team that.
- 43:37Speaker 1: They they've got to find their own way. I mean,
- 43:38Speaker 1: it's and I you know, as much as you love
- 43:40Speaker 1: David Andrews as a leader, and you know tjer Gwise
- 43:42Speaker 1: has taken on a leadership role the last couple of years,
- 43:44Speaker 1: these guys need to find their own way. They need
- 43:46Speaker 1: to make their own kind of structure outside of the
- 43:49Speaker 1: connection to the Belichick Patriots and you know what point,
- 43:52Speaker 1: do you know, three or four guys who played for
- 43:54Speaker 1: Bill Belichick tell you, you know, it's just not ringing
- 43:57Speaker 1: true anymore what their message is, because let's face it,
- 44:00Speaker 1: this is becoming the reality for this Patriots team. Team
- 44:02Speaker 1: that's you know, going out there and taking their lumps
- 44:04Speaker 1: right now. And you know, I think that's what you
- 44:06Speaker 1: hope And I said, I think before the season of
- 44:08Speaker 1: wanting Drake to get in, and I want him to
- 44:10Speaker 1: get in.
- 44:10Speaker 4: I want him to.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Form that foundation of even if it's losing of that
- 44:14Speaker 1: chip on their shoulder of you know, we're getting beat
- 44:16Speaker 1: down by the rest of the AFC East right now
- 44:18Speaker 1: like these teams are. You know, they're looking at us
- 44:20Speaker 1: as a get right game. The Jets are about to
- 44:22Speaker 1: waltz in here. You know, six months ago they beat
- 44:24Speaker 1: you for the first time and whatever it was seven
- 44:26Speaker 1: years and now they're coming in here like they own
- 44:28Speaker 1: the place. You know, these are the games and the
- 44:31Speaker 1: kind of you know, situations that are going to form
- 44:33Speaker 1: this new court from the ashes of which you hope
- 44:35Speaker 1: that a leader like key On White is saying, look,
- 44:38Speaker 1: we've been getting kicked in the teeth the last two years.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I'm not gonna allow this to happen. We you know,
- 44:42Speaker 1: we're no longer this Patriots team trying to live up
- 44:45Speaker 1: to a standard that was set here by another head
- 44:47Speaker 1: coach a long time ago. We're now a new team,
- 44:49Speaker 1: and you know, they have to make their own way.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Like I said, and that's I think what you're hoping.
- 44:54Speaker 1: But like you said, for it, I don't know who
- 44:55Speaker 1: those guys are gonna be. But let's face it, like
- 44:57Speaker 1: as David Andrews, we don't even know if he's gonna
- 44:59Speaker 1: be here next year. You know, those guy Jonathan Jones
- 45:01Speaker 1: a free agent, we don't know if he's gonna be
- 45:03Speaker 1: here this year. At a certain point, all those guys
- 45:05Speaker 1: that have that connection to Belichicks team are gonna be gone.
- 45:08Speaker 1: They need to make their own identity.
- 45:09Speaker 4: It's that competitive attitude, you know. We know the stories
- 45:13Speaker 4: about Brady how no matter what he was doing, whether
- 45:16Speaker 4: it was ping pong or football, he hated to lose.
- 45:19Speaker 4: You know that, you who are those people that they
- 45:23Speaker 4: just hate to lose? And you know all these guys
- 45:26Speaker 4: after they played Edelman and of course Brady, but Bruce
- 45:30Speaker 4: Ki and you know, Harris Rodney Harrison, all these guys
- 45:35Speaker 4: that are doing you know, Kelsey's and the Mannings. Yeah,
- 45:38Speaker 4: they made a lot of money, but the reason why
- 45:40Speaker 4: they're so successful now is because they won. It's because
- 45:43Speaker 4: they were winners. And and you know, the networks want winners.
- 45:48Speaker 4: They're not going to put people on TV who you know,
- 45:51Speaker 4: never won unless they're just an X and O's guys
- 45:54Speaker 4: like Dan Orlovsky. The guys that make the big money
- 45:57Speaker 4: on Sunday Morning and that the networks turned to are
- 46:00Speaker 4: the guys that won. Michael Strahans, you know, all that stuff,
- 46:05Speaker 4: and it's how do you get that message to the
- 46:09Speaker 4: young people. You know, money and social media, that's all great,
- 46:13Speaker 4: but if you win, then you really get what you want.
- 46:17Speaker 4: It's about winning, winning, winning.
- 46:19Speaker 1: It's interesting how those Patriots of the late nineties though
- 46:22Speaker 1: kind of were the foundation for the Dynasties, actually on
- 46:25Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball, where you know, guy
- 46:27Speaker 1: like williamc. Ginnis went to a Super Bowl in it
- 46:29Speaker 1: what a second year, you know, I mean they were
- 46:31Speaker 1: in the playoffs, they were competitive. I mean they had
- 46:34Speaker 1: you know, down year and what ninety nine to two thousand,
- 46:36Speaker 1: Bill came in five wins and then you know, they're
- 46:39Speaker 1: not only back, but they're that's not enough for them.
- 46:42Speaker 1: I mean, I guess Bruski would have told you that.
- 46:44Speaker 1: You know, two thousand and two, we kind of took
- 46:45Speaker 1: a lot, you know, took the foot off the gas
- 46:46Speaker 1: a little bit. But that team, it was almost like
- 46:50Speaker 1: having that little bit of success made them hungry for real,
- 46:53Speaker 1: real sustainable success that you know, is generational success that
- 46:57Speaker 1: they ended up having. U So, I do wonder a
- 47:00Speaker 1: team can't just continue to roll out there four win
- 47:02Speaker 1: season two wins, you know, and never have any success.
- 47:05Speaker 1: It's hard to pull. You gotta find a way. You've
- 47:08Speaker 1: got to have a little bit of juice to get
- 47:10Speaker 1: a little bit of win, to get the belief going,
- 47:12Speaker 1: you know, so that guys now realize, all right, we
- 47:14Speaker 1: had a good week, we can do it this way,
- 47:16Speaker 1: and you start to build them.
- 47:17Speaker 4: You got to find a way, and you know, you
- 47:19Speaker 4: need better players. This offseason is critical and I think
- 47:24Speaker 4: one of the things that Elliott Wolf should be looking for,
- 47:27Speaker 4: and along with Gerrod Mayo, is bringing in a veteran
- 47:30Speaker 4: or two who has that ship on their shoulder, who
- 47:33Speaker 4: you know, maybe wasn't respected in his former team or
- 47:37Speaker 4: came close but hasn't won it yet. But it's a
- 47:39Speaker 4: really good player. They they had success doing that in
- 47:43Speaker 4: the past, you know, with guys like Rodney Harrison and
- 47:48Speaker 4: Randy Moss and Corey Dillon and you know, do you know,
- 47:53Speaker 4: bring in those guys who aren't afraid to get in
- 47:55Speaker 4: the face of their teammate because they have some credibility
- 47:59Speaker 4: and ultimately they want to win. It's all about wanting
- 48:04Speaker 4: to win.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I'd even throw guys like like Rabel and you know,
- 48:08Speaker 1: like Roman Feiffer, like you named off all the stars
- 48:10Speaker 1: for it, but like the guys who maybe have some
- 48:13Speaker 1: NFL experience, so there's a certain level of like you
- 48:15Speaker 1: know who they are. But at the same time, these
- 48:17Speaker 1: like Rabel was like the third outside linebacker in Pittsburgh.
- 48:20Speaker 1: He's hungry. He wants a starting job, he wants a
- 48:23Speaker 1: chance to you know, be the man right you know,
- 48:25Speaker 1: where though those other pieces can be you know, nice
- 48:28Speaker 1: kind of cherry on top of the of the personnel department.
- 48:30Speaker 1: But to find, you know, in free agency, find some
- 48:33Speaker 1: of those dogs, those guys that you know, maybe they
- 48:36Speaker 1: don't have an ego yet, they they're the guys who
- 48:38Speaker 1: are like, man, I'm just waiting for a team to
- 48:40Speaker 1: give me my chance and then I'm gonna go out
- 48:41Speaker 1: there and show them I'm attracted to those those kind
- 48:44Speaker 1: of guys too. But it's it's it's a little daunting
- 48:47Speaker 1: at this moment thinking about like the off season and
- 48:50Speaker 1: the different holes and who's like, is Barmore going to
- 48:52Speaker 1: be back? Is Jabrill Peppers a part of this team
- 48:54Speaker 1: going forward or is he falling by the wayside. You know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: there's just so many questions even before the offseason to identify.
- 49:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Todd's in North Carolina, what's up Todd?
- 49:05Speaker 12: Hey, guys, let's open. Paul would still be there.
- 49:08Speaker 14: I think there's another reason why they tried to go
- 49:10Speaker 14: first and try to go for two points, which trying
- 49:12Speaker 14: to be defenseless, because it was just they were their
- 49:15Speaker 14: passes were dragging on the field. They were doing nothing,
- 49:18Speaker 14: and maybe even them some hope. I know it's twitch
- 49:20Speaker 14: because a lot of it was a defense given hope,
- 49:22Speaker 14: but I think maybe the defense needs that hope coming
- 49:24Speaker 14: from the coming from the offense now, and that kind
- 49:27Speaker 14: of puts a lot more pressure on Drake May which
- 49:29Speaker 14: gets to my next point, and I'll take my answers
- 49:32Speaker 14: off that st the point off the air. My next
- 49:34Speaker 14: point is how long do we keep Drake in there
- 49:36Speaker 14: and say, okay, it was some way he can watch
- 49:40Speaker 14: this season. We can make it involved some more and
- 49:43Speaker 14: keep going, because I am worried that, you know, somewhere
- 49:46Speaker 14: along the line, you know, he might get wept. I
- 49:48Speaker 14: think you're a good comment with your coaching. I think, yeah,
- 49:51Speaker 14: he's been coached well, because he does seem to have
- 49:53Speaker 14: improved a lot over what you guys were, you know,
- 49:56Speaker 14: documenting you, Evan, everybody, Paul were documenting his ability in
- 50:01Speaker 14: the training camps and saying, look, you know this is
- 50:03Speaker 14: why he's not starting, and he seems to really have progressed.
- 50:07Speaker 14: So I'm just worried it maybe you put him in
- 50:09Speaker 14: too long, you like to overcook the meat, and it's
- 50:11Speaker 14: all bringing ghost that kind of thing anyway speculated.
- 50:14Speaker 4: By him, did you.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I hope I got the gist of it, Todd, but
- 50:19Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not worried. I think they're going to
- 50:20Speaker 1: be ups and downs. I think that's what people have
- 50:22Speaker 1: to realize. It's not going to just be a straight
- 50:24Speaker 1: line to greatness, you know, for Drake May, It's gonna
- 50:26Speaker 1: be like we said, earlier. There's gonna be some games
- 50:29Speaker 1: where you know, he might get banged up, and I mean,
- 50:31Speaker 1: but that's.
- 50:32Speaker 4: And look bad again. He just looks bad and this
- 50:35Speaker 4: could be the game you know, who knows, But but.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'll take it the last two games, what we've seen
- 50:39Speaker 1: from him, based on what we've seen the last couple
- 50:42Speaker 1: of years, like it should. I wish it was worth more.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Like I wish that you could just kind of whistle
- 50:46Speaker 1: past the graveyard and be like, I feel really excited
- 50:48Speaker 1: about the quarterback. But it's hard to when you know
- 50:50Speaker 1: they're playing this badly, especially on the defensive side of
- 50:53Speaker 1: the ball.
- 50:54Speaker 4: On the going for two things, I think they had
- 50:57Speaker 4: a little momentum, and by missing that too, I think
- 51:00Speaker 4: you killed it. Yeah, I so, I I yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 1: And I would have liked the defense to to be motivated,
- 51:06Speaker 1: you know, being picked up by getting a ten point
- 51:08Speaker 1: lead to start the game. And then you know then
- 51:10Speaker 1: they kind of had nothing going into that second quarter
- 51:12Speaker 1: where I mean through the third quarter, they just they
- 51:14Speaker 1: couldn't get off the field, they couldn't get a stop.
- 51:16Speaker 1: So I mean, I just I want more from the
- 51:19Speaker 1: from the defense to play. I think everybody does, Like
- 51:22Speaker 1: you just want to rally around the kid, you know,
- 51:24Speaker 1: I would like and its like a know, a high
- 51:25Speaker 1: school football team or like the freshman's in there and
- 51:27Speaker 1: we got to protect the kid. And he's good, so
- 51:29Speaker 1: you know, if we just can play good for him,
- 51:31Speaker 1: and sometimes that's you know, what a team needs to
- 51:33Speaker 1: get going. But it hasn't been good enough yet.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Kendall in North Carolina. I hate Kendall.
- 51:39Speaker 1: And he's going on guys.
- 51:42Speaker 12: Quick quick.
- 51:43Speaker 9: I say, y'all don't care about wins or losses this year,
- 51:46Speaker 9: and I think the win total was thank for, So
- 51:50Speaker 9: what about what's the expectations? But make sure about seven
- 51:52Speaker 9: games or or fight for a playoff spot?
- 51:56Speaker 4: Okay, thank I mean Kendall. It's it's hard. It's hard
- 51:59Speaker 4: to have an expectation for next year without knowing what
- 52:03Speaker 4: they do in the offseason. But assuming they do a
- 52:08Speaker 4: few move, you know, good moves, I would imagine that,
- 52:12Speaker 4: you know, they can win maybe seven games next year.
- 52:15Speaker 4: But it's it's way too early. You know. A lot
- 52:18Speaker 4: of it is does Drake May can continue to progress?
- 52:21Speaker 4: Uh So I'm not even thinking about next year record.
- 52:26Speaker 4: But I will say this, if if they hit on
- 52:30Speaker 4: a couple draft picks. If they do bring in a
- 52:33Speaker 4: couple good free agents and Drake May continues to progress,
- 52:39Speaker 4: they can turn this thing around in short order where
- 52:43Speaker 4: in two years, maybe in twenty twenty six, they're actually
- 52:46Speaker 4: competing for a playoff spot. But they've got to hit
- 52:50Speaker 4: these things. They've you know, they you know, they can't
- 52:53Speaker 4: just have one guy out of the draft that makes
- 52:56Speaker 4: an impact. They've got to get two to three impact
- 52:59Speaker 4: players out of the draft, plus you know, at least
- 53:04Speaker 4: two free agents that they bring in. Oh and then
- 53:07Speaker 4: the guys that are here, like you know, the Keyon
- 53:10Speaker 4: Whites and the Drake Mays take that next step. So
- 53:15Speaker 4: it's a lot, a lot of these things happen. For
- 53:18Speaker 4: the quick turnaround that I'm talking about, all those things
- 53:20Speaker 4: have to happen. It's not easy.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I just think though you look at like the teams
- 53:24Speaker 1: right now that are in the three wildcard spots, or
- 53:26Speaker 1: the teams like it's not that overwhelming, like these aren't
- 53:29Speaker 1: like these juggernauts, and oh my god, it seems so
- 53:31Speaker 1: far away. It can happen quick. And look, there's not
- 53:34Speaker 1: a lot of big pieces to worry about right now.
- 53:36Speaker 1: And I mean you can take that for what it means,
- 53:38Speaker 1: but for better or worse. But they did all the
- 53:40Speaker 1: heavy lifting internally last year. Like Jonathan Jones certainly a
- 53:44Speaker 1: piece to consider, who's a starter, who's going to be
- 53:47Speaker 1: a free agent. But I mean, really otherwise, you're just
- 53:49Speaker 1: kind of looking at upgrading and building around this core
- 53:52Speaker 1: that's going to be here. So you might hate a
- 53:54Speaker 1: lot of these players, but they're all kind of under
- 53:56Speaker 1: contract to come back, so you know they have their
- 53:59Speaker 1: least starting from a certain place. I just say they
- 54:01Speaker 1: got to be in that mix of those wildcard teams
- 54:03Speaker 1: next year. If you're just looking at it from you know,
- 54:05Speaker 1: Drameo and Ellie Wolf came in last year. It's year
- 54:08Speaker 1: two of a rebuild. You feel like you found the quarterback.
- 54:10Speaker 1: You're gonna have a bunch of cap space and draft
- 54:12Speaker 1: picks this year to do what you want. You know,
- 54:15Speaker 1: I would expect to try to be in that six
- 54:17Speaker 1: seven win but i'd like to see at the end
- 54:19Speaker 1: of this year to feel like some reason to believe
- 54:21Speaker 1: that that could be coming. But right now, it's hard
- 54:24Speaker 1: to say. It's like you know, you're you're at the
- 54:26Speaker 1: low point right now.
- 54:27Speaker 4: Eldred North Carolina, what's up Eldred.
- 54:32Speaker 8: Hey fellow, tell y'all doing Hey.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Paul, he's not here, he's shooting a TV show.
- 54:39Speaker 12: Shooting a TV show.
- 54:40Speaker 8: Okay, well it's kill Paul.
- 54:42Speaker 15: I agree with every word he said about May and
- 54:46Speaker 15: Bean Pell and mccordy and the other guy. That's deepen
- 54:51Speaker 15: Drake May, because two years ago to speak with nothing
- 54:54Speaker 15: like that the last two games, I'm impressed very yeah, so.
- 55:00Speaker 16: I ain't think you'll get there that point.
- 55:02Speaker 8: And if they keep working with him, I.
- 55:04Speaker 15: Might be about made Jersey, like next week, let's go
- 55:09Speaker 15: if that, so.
- 55:11Speaker 8: You know, it's beat whole lot better. But it's always
- 55:16Speaker 8: like it's the draft, And like I said on the
- 55:19Speaker 8: post game show, I'm just taking it year by year
- 55:23Speaker 8: because it's it's a rebuilding from now. It could have
- 55:26Speaker 8: been five years ago, but regime didn't want to do it.
- 55:30Speaker 8: So everybody, you got to get back and be patient.
- 55:33Speaker 8: You know, everybody want to win, but we don't want
- 55:36Speaker 8: to have that bag this time. And here we get
- 55:39Speaker 8: your bag and fella, you'll have a good one.
- 55:42Speaker 4: All right, thank you, it's all too Elders.
- 55:44Speaker 1: He just needed Drake made to clean up his footwork,
- 55:46Speaker 1: and he's he's in on a jersey. He's in there you.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Go, Mike, and Ithaca New York says, this is on
- 55:52Speaker 4: podcasts at Patriots dot Com the email address, I got
- 55:54Speaker 4: a weird thought experiment that might be interesting. I agree
- 55:58Speaker 4: with Evan that I think Mayo should take a more
- 56:01Speaker 4: hands on approach with the defense, because my god, seventeen
- 56:05Speaker 4: run plays in a row. Join me in my land
- 56:07Speaker 4: of make believe for a second. Let's say Mayo doesn't
- 56:11Speaker 4: put more into the defense in the interest of still
- 56:14Speaker 4: being a CEO type head coach. Do you think Elliott
- 56:17Speaker 4: Wolf would make a call to Robert Salam crazy? I know,
- 56:21Speaker 4: but stranger things have happened. If not, is there any
- 56:24Speaker 4: chance Mayo calls up old friend Brian Belichick and tries
- 56:27Speaker 4: to persuade him away from you mean, Steve Belichick. I
- 56:32Speaker 4: don't think so.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I don't think so. I just I don't. I don't
- 56:34Speaker 1: really see this. I just I think it's kind of
- 56:36Speaker 1: shuffling things around just to try to make yourself feel better.
- 56:39Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, DeMarcus Covington has more experience coaching
- 56:43Speaker 1: this defense than Girod does. I mean, he's been here
- 56:45Speaker 1: longer so, and I'm sure the message is the same.
- 56:48Speaker 1: They've both been taught the same way. They've fought through
- 56:50Speaker 1: the same problems over the last few years together and
- 56:53Speaker 1: figuring these kind of situations away. I don't think that
- 56:55Speaker 1: Giro Mayo's got all these different answers that you know,
- 56:58Speaker 1: DeMarcus Covington wouldn't already kind of know it's and like
- 57:01Speaker 1: you said today in the press conference, they're they're working together.
- 57:04Speaker 1: I mean, if you just need to see change for
- 57:06Speaker 1: change sake, then I get it. But you know, like
- 57:09Speaker 1: I said earlier in the show, not every head coaches
- 57:10Speaker 1: up there diagramming plays on the sidelines, and you know
- 57:13Speaker 1: it's Girod's got to do it the way he's gonna
- 57:16Speaker 1: do it. He's empowering these coordinators to make the changes.
- 57:18Speaker 1: And like I said, you've seen a little bit of
- 57:20Speaker 1: progress on the offensive side of the ball. So but
- 57:23Speaker 1: I agree with the point they got to be better
- 57:25Speaker 1: on defense. I just don't know if that's.
- 57:27Speaker 4: I mean, I'm looking at the reaction of everybody, including myself,
- 57:30Speaker 4: and you know, I look at it two ways, like
- 57:32Speaker 4: try to find a silver lining in it, and you know,
- 57:35Speaker 4: one way, we are spoiled. We're not used to this.
- 57:38Speaker 4: This is jarring. But at the other on the other hand,
- 57:42Speaker 4: I'm glad that people are so pissed off and care
- 57:45Speaker 4: that much. Yeah, we're certainly not seeing apathy, which is
- 57:50Speaker 4: the worst thing any franchise can have from its fan base.
- 57:54Speaker 4: So you know, I maybe the emotion is really good, So.
- 57:59Speaker 1: You've got to cleanse the palette here. Unfortunately, all the
- 58:02Speaker 1: Patriots fans that hopped on the bandwagon and thought it.
- 58:04Speaker 6: Was it was easy.
- 58:06Speaker 1: But I've been here before. We saw we saw in
- 58:08Speaker 1: ninety one, ninety two, I remember those.
- 58:10Speaker 4: That was a long time. Yeah, Matt and Baltimore writes
- 58:14Speaker 4: in I'm not sure what the uproar is all about
- 58:17Speaker 4: with the media, coaches and fans after losing to Jacksonville.
- 58:20Speaker 4: The Patriots season is already a success. Drake May is
- 58:23Speaker 4: a superstar in the making, and they did a good
- 58:26Speaker 4: job grooming him behind Jacoby until he was ready to start.
- 58:29Speaker 4: The Patriots goals going forward should be continue to develop
- 58:33Speaker 4: May without getting him killed. Develop your other younger players
- 58:37Speaker 4: who will be here when May hits his stride to
- 58:40Speaker 4: Mario Douglas, Polk, Javon Baker, Gonzalez, White Wallace, etc. Develop
- 58:46Speaker 4: the right culture Mayo needs to say less and more
- 58:49Speaker 4: of the right things. He does need his players to
- 58:52Speaker 4: be smart and tough, but talking to the media is
- 58:55Speaker 4: not the way to do it. He needs to mature
- 58:58Speaker 4: and help his players mature. The Patriots season is already
- 59:03Speaker 4: a success considering the development of May, and their next
- 59:05Speaker 4: season begins with the draft and free agency. I root
- 59:08Speaker 4: every week for them to pick at the top of
- 59:11Speaker 4: the oh I root every week for them to lose.
- 59:16Speaker 4: If they get the number one pick next year, they
- 59:18Speaker 4: can flip that into multiple first round choices and pick
- 59:21Speaker 4: up the top of the later rounds. If they could
- 59:23Speaker 4: kill the draft. If they could kill the draft. Combine
- 59:26Speaker 4: that with a successful free agency, and you give your
- 59:29Speaker 4: team an instant shot of adrenaline. Focus on items one
- 59:32Speaker 4: through three above. Don't win any more games this year,
- 59:35Speaker 4: and the Patriots will have a bright twenty five year future.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I understand what he's saying. I just
- 59:41Speaker 1: I don't want the first overall pick. I don't want
- 59:43Speaker 1: that one. I think that one's gonna be so hard
- 59:45Speaker 1: to move, Like, I think the sweet spot is like
- 59:47Speaker 1: three four five, where you know a few picks will happen,
- 59:50Speaker 1: then someone will fall. You know that another team really
- 59:53Speaker 1: wants and then you're able to move it. My worry
- 59:56Speaker 1: is that you don't need a quarterback and you get
- 59:57Speaker 1: stuck with the first overall pick and then you're not
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: able to move it. You're gonna you know, maybe overdraft
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: a position to need. You know, maybe there isn't somebody
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: that quite fits. So I also just say I want
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to spark at the end of this year. I want
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: to feel good about something other than just Drake may
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I want to feel like this team is coming together
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: and that they're finding a little bit of their own
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: identity that isn't related to the past twenty two years. Yeah,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: you know, I want to see jirob Mayo's team starting
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: to come out and play, and you know, maybe it
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: is guys that we don't really realize at this point.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I know they're getting down the depth chart that emerge,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: but they need to There needs to be more than
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: just well, Drake may was good. We went one in
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: sixteen and you know, but he got killed. But I
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: feel good about his arm talent, like I can't. I
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: need to feel.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Good about Stacey from Indiana kind of has the same thoughts.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: She writes, I know we're one and six. We're obviously
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: not going to win very many games, and we're clearly
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: not a playoff team. We are what we are. But
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: what do the Patriots need to do from here on
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: out for you to consider this a successful season for
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: the team. And it's kind of like what you're talking about.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: The problem is, you know, you want to see the
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: locker room to come together and positive signs about them
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: being you know, on the same page. It's gonna be
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: hard though without winning, Like, if you don't win a
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: few games, that's gonna be really hard to do. And
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: right now, I'm not sure that they've got the talent
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: on the field enough to do that, you know, So like,
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: you know, what does being on the same page look like?
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: If you don't win a few games, right you know,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: it's it's going to be hard.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Well, then you really have to get into the weeds
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: of it. But I mean, I think we all have
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: seen football teams that at various levels that aren't the
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: most talented team. But football's at one sport where if
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: everybody's on the same page, you can be a tough
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: team to beat. And I know it takes more than
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: that to really be a consistent playoff contender, but they've
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: had big injuries in the past, and other teams have
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: had big injuries in the past, and guys have emerged
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: and the system is good and everybody buys in and
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: they're able to at least play, you know, at a
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: level where you're middle of the pack, or maybe like
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: right now, they're hurting themselves with penalties. They don't look
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: like a team that's all on the same page. And
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: absence of wins. That's for me what I need to
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: see a team that's all on the same page. Look,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: but what does that look like? What is no dumb tea,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: no dumb penalties?
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: But well, hold on, I just want to ask the
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: question and then you can answer, like, what is a
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: team that's one in thirteen look like if they're on
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: the same page.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Now, maybe, I mean maybe it doesn't exist, no, no,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: but but you were gonna know the dumb penalties, the
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: self preventable kind of things where it looks like guys
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: aren't locked in. But just being solid on special teams.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I don't need them to score every week special you
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: know what I mean, just the solid special teams that
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: they're not giving up points, they're maintaining solid consistent field.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I don't need them to be the best special teams,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: but you can't give up kickoff returns and punt returns.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: And that's been a problem going back a couple of
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: years now, of giving up those big plays on you know,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: the big plays, big plays on you know, I would say,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: don't give up big plays penalties and just have solid It's.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: A tough question to answer because again without the wins
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: like but I would say losing games like Seattle, like
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: where you're competitive, but it's obvious that the other team
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: is just a little palented and that's why you lost.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: You didn't lose because you let seventeen straight run plays up.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: You didn't lose because you let up a punt return.
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: You didn't lose because of excessive penalties and stupid penalties.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: If you do those things, Okay, they're just better than us.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Right, they've got that one piece we don't have yet,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: but we can get there.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: Right. So that's gonna be tough, though. Yeah, it's gonna
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: be tough because when you are not as good, you
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: have a tendency to false start because you're nervous. You know,
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: you're trying to get that edge. You have a tendency
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: to just you know, grab a face mask because you
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: weren't in position to make the tackle the right way.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: So penalties also happen when you're outmatched, you.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Know, totally, and you get frustrated and you're in a
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: situation where these guys are right now where I'm sure
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: we all felt it at that game last week, where
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: it's kind of here we go again, like that's you.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: You're on a snowball right now.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: Playing from behind.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Oh god, And then they returned the kick. I mean,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: everybody was probably sick to their stomachs when they return
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: you know that punt that was you know, to me,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: that's just like, you got to be kidding me. We
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: were feeling so great and then it's like boom, boom boom,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: twenty two to ten, like right like that, And I'm
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: sure the players feel that way too, And it's just
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: it takes a certain mental toughness to break that, not
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: only within the game, but just within the season.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: Because you think Berenger is ever gonna punt down the
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: middle again.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: Oh man, it's gonna be in like the two hundreds.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: On the other side of the field, we go.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Out at the twenty, then pin him down inside the five.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: Barton Poland writes in Holy heck, the discourse surrounding this
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: team and the what if scenarios of Bill coaching it
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: and what the record would be are insane. One Bill
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: with this exact same roster as probably two and five
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: at best three and four, definitely not five and two,
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: as some people on the internet would make you believe.
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: The roster wouldn't be the same. There's absolutely no way
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: that Bill drafts may and that alone makes me okay
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: with him being gone. We definitely trade down and either
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: take Nixon McCarthy or trade a tackle with signing a
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: Wilson Cousins type quarterback, and we probably sign a few
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: veteran free agents that would probably lead you to an
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: eight to nine record at best, the number thirteen pick
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: in the draft and no future outlook at the quarterback position.
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: But hey, at least Bill's closer to the win record
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: and three. Some people seem to completely forget that this
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: team was four and thirteen last season, and that's with
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: playing against bump quarterbacks every other week. I love Bill,
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: He's the goat, but it was time to move on.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: The decision to hire Mail is a completely different discussion.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: I've always been in the camp of hiring a young,
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: tight pants, offensive minded head coach. I'd probably give my
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: left testicle to see Ben Johnson work with Drake May.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: I know that Evan just gasped at the thought of it,
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Johnson being May's coach, of course, not me losing my testicle.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: That's Barton Poland.
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: So I can I jump in sure, welcome back, Hey,
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: thanks for having me. The entirety of the premise of
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: that email, I would one hundred percent agree with some
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: of the nuts and bolts of what Bill would have done,
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: like the way he just described that. Like, I don't
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: think that would have necessarily been wrong. That would have
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: been another way to go about a rebuild. So I
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: don't think there's any chance that he would have signed
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: Russell Wilson, or well, let me rephrase that, there's no
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: chance he would have signed Kirk Cousins. There's a chance
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: that he would have signed Russell Wilson because of the money,
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: but I think it would have been something more along
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: the lines of what they did with a Jacoby Brissette
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: type or something like that. But why would trading down
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: like I liked May, I wanted to draft May. You
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: guys all know that that's what I would have done.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: I would have drafted May ahead of Jayden Daniels, which
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: right now looks like the wrong move, but that's that's
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: what I would have done. You could have easily traded
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: down and drafted McCarthy.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: I don't think he would have drafted Nicks. But McCarthy,
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: I think is kind of a Billish But you think
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: of McCarthy as kind of a Billished type quarterback, game manager,
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: some athletics, but not necessarily a huge you know, a
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: huge athlete, and you trade down get extra picks, Like
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: I don't think that would have been like a terribly
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: short sighted. Again, I agree with the premise of the
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: email that Bart sent, like this whole notion that Bill
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: would be five and two or six and one with
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: this no chance, no chance, But just that little part
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: of it, I was like, I don't think that would
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: have been a terrible move if Elliot Wolf decided to
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: trade down and draft one of the other quarterbacks, yeah,
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: and get more picks.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I just can't shake that.
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: And we don't know how McCarthy would have been because
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: he got hurt.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: Right, That's what I'm saying I think.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I just I feel like Rogers was the move for him,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Like if it was going to be successful here, I
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: think that was the that was the move, Go get
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think there's a reason that he doesn't
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: want that kind of like I think he had that
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: quarterback that dominated his team for so long. He didn't
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: want that anymore. And that's again that's a failing, like
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: not a failure that he didn't go and get Rogers,
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: but I think the fact that he no longer wanted
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: that quarterback to whether it was about credit or just
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: dominating his team or whatever it was, he wasn't He
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: wasn't there for that.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: I think as much as been written about the Patriots
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: Dynasty and the doc, there's still a lot to be written.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: There's still a lot.
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: Are you going to write it?
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: Huh?
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: Are you going to write it?
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: Make me an offer?
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: I don't have any money.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: But no, Seriously, I do think there's still a lot
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: to be written about just the mindset of Bill, how
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: he was running the team behind the scenes, and Brady
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: and and I think there's still a lot to be written.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: The end with Bill. I mean, that's just having this conversation.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: It's just if he if he hadn't gone, what would
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: this what would this year have been like? And like
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: the trade down for JJ McCarthy, it's just it sounds
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: like you're doubling down on what happened with Mack again,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: So why is this going to be different than what
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you did with that?
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: And again that's why I stayed it up front. I
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: would have taken Drake May, but I'm just looking like
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: this this whole thing that like Bill would have screwed
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: it by doing that, I like, and then he I
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: think you finished it. We'd be left at eight and
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: nine with the thirteenth pick and no future like no,
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: like the future would be JJ McCarthy or Bo Nicks
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: in that scenario. Like, I like Drake May better than
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: those guys, but that doesn't mean I'm right.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just times running out, you know, for him,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: And like you want to win now, do you want
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: to you know, work with a kid that you prefer
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: to deal with, or do you want to win football
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: games with a little bit of a pain in the
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: ass that might be a divas sometimes, but it's super
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: talented and you're not gonna have to hold his hand
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: through the whole process. You know, that would have been
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: my question is, all right, so what did you learn
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: from twenty twenty and twenty twenty one? You had a
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: big you know, we have free agency money, you've got
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: a chance now for more free agency money, and you
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: had a high draft pick. And what would have been
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: different so that it doesn't all kind of just stay block,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: which is what it did after that start in twenty
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: twenty one. I don't know. I don't know what the
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: answer is, but because art of me just can't imagine
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Bill doing anything different than what he always did and
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: what he believes, and well, I just got to get
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: players who actually will listen to me, you know, like.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: That, I think listening to him talk specifically about Drake May,
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: I don't believe he would have drafted Drake May. But
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: that I am not necessarily saying he wouldn't have drafted
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: a quarterback at three. I just don't based on his breakdown,
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: I don't think it would have been Drake May. So
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: I agree with with Bart about that. I just it
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: was time. Like I said, everything about the email was right.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: There was no easy answer anymore, and it was time.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: I mean, had he had the high round, first round
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: rookie quarterback. He had a you know, a big free
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: agency period in twenty twenty one. You had a couple
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: of years to try to build off of that, and
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: it didn't build off it degraded. It was going the
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: opposite direction for a variety of reasons. But I don't know,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: I just think the one thing I'm still kind of
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: like missing about him is just the feeling of he's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: going to adjust to the other team, like the other
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: team is going to have to beat him kind of twice,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you know, and within the game. I mean, they're gonna
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: have to come out with a good game plan and
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: then they're gonna have to come out with their adjustments
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: to whatever they adjust to. And right now, it just
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: feels kind of like what you see is what you
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: get and there's no way to change.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: You definitely have lost that.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: You've you've lost a good point.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: Uh Patty and agawam, what's up Patty? Patty?
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Hey pad, he.
- 1:11:49Speaker 16: Can hear me?
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Okay, absolutely.
- 1:11:53Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:11:53Speaker 17: So a couple of quick.
- 1:11:54Speaker 16: Questions, do you think Sturre on mail before the end
- 1:11:59Speaker 16: of the season, We'll find that fine line of kind
- 1:12:02Speaker 16: of like not saying whatever pops into his head and
- 1:12:06Speaker 16: just shutting up. And what I mean by that it
- 1:12:08Speaker 16: is like I was in sales when I was in
- 1:12:11Speaker 16: my mid early twenties, and my one of my managers
- 1:12:15Speaker 16: told me, you know, if you don't know the answer
- 1:12:17Speaker 16: to a question or you don't know like how to
- 1:12:20Speaker 16: answer a question to say, I don't know, you know,
- 1:12:23Speaker 16: I think he doesn't have to always be so forth
- 1:12:25Speaker 16: with the media, Like I mean, do you guys think
- 1:12:29Speaker 16: he regrets saying that the team will win more than
- 1:12:31Speaker 16: four games before the season started. And the second the
- 1:12:36Speaker 16: second question that I had was as far as the
- 1:12:41Speaker 16: matchup with the Jets goes, which like matchups? Do you
- 1:12:44Speaker 16: think it's most lotsided in the Jets? They were like
- 1:12:47Speaker 16: their defensive line against our offensive line, the receivers against
- 1:12:51Speaker 16: our quarterbacks. So I'll take it off.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: There, guys, Okay, thanks. Yeah, I mean on the first point, yeah,
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: I think.
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: They're front seven against your front front line. I think
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: probably my guest, but this is not one of these
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: games that if you just went man for man and
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: like did it that way, you'd have a hard time
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: coming up with very many that you'd feel good about.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: Matchups. Yeah, yeah, on the first part, yeah, I think.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: I hope Gerard gets better and doesn't you know, have
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: this dream of consciousness when he gets to the microphone.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: He has to. I mean, he's got he's got to
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: learn this stuff, and I hope that there is somebody
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: coaching him and like going over the tape, just like
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: you would a game. How'd you do it today against?
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: You know, it doesn't have to be hours, but like
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: fifteen minutes a day. How did I do today? What
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: could I have done better?
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: You know? So it's a good point.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: It's hard.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: It's hard. I mean try getting standing up there three
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: times a week and getting grilled by a bunch of media.
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: It hard for any and it's harder than you think.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: It's the main consistent message. And shoot, I shouldn't have
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: said it that way, you know, like all those things,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: it's hard.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it is.
- 1:14:08Speaker 14: So.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Aaron's in Toronto, what's up? Aaron? Hey?
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: Everyone, first time, long time and a big time of
- 1:14:15Speaker 9: the show.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:14:16Speaker 9: I had a purely hypothetical question.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: I was hoping you could have some quicks fun with what.
- 1:14:21Speaker 9: If Drake May was drafted to the twenty twenty one
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: Patriot stuff? No matter how that could have happened, But how.
- 1:14:28Speaker 10: Would the season have gone?
- 1:14:29Speaker 17: And maybe the time and think a lot.
- 1:14:31Speaker 8: I'll take it up the air.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: Oh boy, I think I think we'd be talking about
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: you know where the AFC Championship is going to be played?
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: Kansas City or Buffalo No no, or Fox Grows No No.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: I think you'd be four years into Drake May and
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: I think things would be good.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: I have to put myself in a positive mind space
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: and say, yeah, I think we'd be we'd be in
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: a good place right now. We'd throw The real answer
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: is I have absolutely no idea.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: No, it's not easy. But you know what is bud Light.

- 1:17:29Speaker 5: Cope from your first start to your second start? Kind
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: of growth did you see?
- 1:17:33Speaker 11: Kind of things you feel like you need to work
- 1:17:35Speaker 11: on as you continue.
- 1:17:36Speaker 8: To try to get better and better starting quarterback?
- 1:17:39Speaker 11: Yeah, the big thing we started fast. I think, you know,
- 1:17:41Speaker 11: two drives, put two good drives together. You know where
- 1:17:45Speaker 11: my first start, you know, I think it was three
- 1:17:46Speaker 11: and out and then yeah, second one was maybe another
- 1:17:49Speaker 11: three and out, So you know, start started fast and
- 1:17:51Speaker 11: felt more comfortable in the center of that first snap
- 1:17:53Speaker 11: than the first time, and you know kind of got
- 1:17:55Speaker 11: the nerves out of me. So feel more comfortable back there,
- 1:17:57Speaker 11: more comfortable in the huddle, play calls and little things
- 1:18:00Speaker 11: like that, little things that kind of you don't see
- 1:18:02Speaker 11: on the field, but you know, feel more comfortable the huddle.
- 1:18:04Speaker 11: Felt like I was, you know, bring some more energy
- 1:18:06Speaker 11: to to the start of the game. And then from there,
- 1:18:09Speaker 11: I think, just protracted the football. That's the big thing.
- 1:18:11Speaker 11: Then you know, turn the ball over and you have
- 1:18:13Speaker 11: some players which you know wish I had back that
- 1:18:15Speaker 11: you know makes better throws even in you know in
- 1:18:17Speaker 11: last game that you can maybe be difference in the
- 1:18:19Speaker 11: ball game. But at the same time, I think you
- 1:18:22Speaker 11: know did some good things, just didn't sus stand it
- 1:18:23Speaker 11: long enough and put drives to other especially in that
- 1:18:26Speaker 11: second quarter.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: You see a player like you.
- 1:18:29Speaker 7: Folsous, you've probably fill in relationship with that Thames start
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: a little bit. Okay, football and security, how do you
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: p post them because.
- 1:18:43Speaker 11: You guys, yeah, I think just pump him up. I
- 1:18:46Speaker 11: think that's the biggest thing you can do. Especially you
- 1:18:47Speaker 11: know a guy you know come in the same class
- 1:18:49Speaker 11: and you're you know, the first round and the second
- 1:18:51Speaker 11: round pick. You know, we build a connection earlier during
- 1:18:53Speaker 11: during camp and during during the summer. I feel like
- 1:18:56Speaker 11: we had it going and nothing just still still find it.
- 1:18:59Speaker 11: Still working together on our second game out there together,
- 1:19:01Speaker 11: and you know, I felt we've left some players out
- 1:19:03Speaker 11: there both you know me, you know, ball placement wise,
- 1:19:05Speaker 11: and I'm sure you'd like to have some players back himself.
- 1:19:07Speaker 11: I think it's just building, building the camaraderie, and I
- 1:19:10Speaker 11: think we're gonna get there. I don't think it's a
- 1:19:11Speaker 11: matter of ifting, it's a matter of when precision.
- 1:19:15Speaker 7: I think you're seeing right now in the passing the
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: brothers run et cetera of the space and et cetera,
- 1:19:21Speaker 7: enjoy comfortable the same don't let down the rock he
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: needs to see.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm getting there.
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: I'm getting there, you know, especially you know, preaching whatv
- 1:19:30Speaker 11: P preaches, and you know, doing the little things and
- 1:19:33Speaker 11: you know some of the love of the you know,
- 1:19:34Speaker 11: for the love of the game, routes of spacing and
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: and maybe you have a clear route to get somebody
- 1:19:38Speaker 11: else open. I think we're kind of feeling that out.
- 1:19:40Speaker 11: You've got a got a young teams in the receiver room, that,
- 1:19:42Speaker 11: you know, the Titan has got a better understanding of
- 1:19:44Speaker 11: you know, they've been a lot different concepts and offenses.
- 1:19:47Speaker 11: I think the kind of young guys are starting to
- 1:19:48Speaker 11: figure it out and take here and go see it clicking.
- 1:19:50Speaker 11: I think, uh, we've got some talent off and some
- 1:19:53Speaker 11: looking forward to seeing when that happens.
- 1:19:55Speaker 16: The game.
- 1:19:58Speaker 11: You running like a clear out on on like like
- 1:20:00Speaker 11: a like a digger concept. We've got a clear hout.
- 1:20:01Speaker 11: We're just taking out, you know, to take it out
- 1:20:03Speaker 11: the safeties for the dig coming out for your for
- 1:20:05Speaker 11: your friend to come catch, you know. Digger concept for
- 1:20:07Speaker 11: the love of the game is you're just hauling butt,
- 1:20:09Speaker 11: you know, basically not really expecting the expecting the football,
- 1:20:13Speaker 11: just expecting to get your get your get your friend open.
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: Frank Scott Chagrick, I'm sorry, Uh, Scott tracked convention back
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: in high school used to go to the sideline where
- 1:20:21Speaker 7: check the stats to make sure different guys out in
- 1:20:23Speaker 7: the ball.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: It's out of a telly. You still haven't why support
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: for you to make sure the different guys are get
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: involved in the past.
- 1:20:29Speaker 11: Yeah, I think I think it's it's a big deal.
- 1:20:31Speaker 11: I think at the same time, It's also something that
- 1:20:34Speaker 11: I you know, keep in mind of getting guys football,
- 1:20:36Speaker 11: especially in one on one scenarios. You know, we have
- 1:20:37Speaker 11: different guys and make plays. But at the same time,
- 1:20:40Speaker 11: you know, I'm right now, I'm just trying to you know,
- 1:20:42Speaker 11: two my part in the offense and try to worry
- 1:20:44Speaker 11: about as you know that as as much. But I
- 1:20:46Speaker 11: think there's definitely at times and games where hey, I'm
- 1:20:49Speaker 11: gonna tell you, hey, if you're one on one next time,
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: I'll come on your way.
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: I told KB that later in the game that gives
- 1:20:54Speaker 11: more chances is a good player for us. So you know,
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: little things like that, you know, I care about, you know,
- 1:20:59Speaker 11: doing guys want the football, and they want the football
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: and try to feed you know, try to feed them all.
- 1:21:04Speaker 11: That's that's the best thing. But at the same time,
- 1:21:06Speaker 11: you know, everybody is gonna want the ball, you know,
- 1:21:09Speaker 11: more than probably're gonna get, so gotta kind of balance
- 1:21:11Speaker 11: that aspect.
- 1:21:12Speaker 20: There was a clip on social media this morning Diana
- 1:21:14Speaker 20: Orlowski ESPM was kind of breaking down your game you
- 1:21:17Speaker 20: should have played where he was highlighting really good footwork base.
- 1:21:21Speaker 20: He was really praising how far you've come along and
- 1:21:24Speaker 20: in such a short amount of time and footwork because.
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: I feel like that's you.
- 1:21:27Speaker 13: That you can come a long way with your footwork.
- 1:21:29Speaker 20: When you watch yourself now, it's how you were in college.
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: I'm like, wow, that the work we put it is
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: really starting to pay off.
- 1:21:35Speaker 11: Yeah, I think you know it's credit. You know kids
- 1:21:37Speaker 11: coaches here AREVP and TC. You know they really you know,
- 1:21:41Speaker 11: they've hammered it home. And you know, at the same time,
- 1:21:43Speaker 11: I think, you know, some things where some different drops
- 1:21:45Speaker 11: I'm taking now and weren't really asked of me in college.
- 1:21:48Speaker 11: So some of these you know, five step in under
- 1:21:50Speaker 11: center play actions, we didn't do much of those, so
- 1:21:52Speaker 11: it probably really didn't give me a chance to show
- 1:21:54Speaker 11: show off some of the footwork stuff. So there's two
- 1:21:57Speaker 11: ways to look at it. But you know, credit to
- 1:21:58Speaker 11: these guys here. I think you're working still working on
- 1:22:01Speaker 11: you know things you know throughout the week, TC puts
- 1:22:03Speaker 11: it up on the board, you know, a little things
- 1:22:04Speaker 11: out the week that to keep in mind, and you know,
- 1:22:06Speaker 11: it's like, I'm I'm I feel comfortable back there. Maybe
- 1:22:09Speaker 11: scrambled into one sack light in the game that told
- 1:22:11Speaker 11: Big Mic that was my fault, but you know other
- 1:22:13Speaker 11: than that feel good back there, like I'm seeing it well,
- 1:22:15Speaker 11: just I'm gonna tinue to get some reps full stuff.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: I'm curious, what's the challenge like as.
- 1:22:22Speaker 10: A key maybe wants to be deaf raential.
- 1:22:24Speaker 8: Today, tolder guys like a lot, right.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: I guess guy us position, what's that challenge like? Cre
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: you trying to strike that battle?
- 1:22:35Speaker 20: Yeah?
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: I think.
- 1:22:38Speaker 11: What what are you really asking?
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: Well, just in terms of you want to be deferential
- 1:22:42Speaker 7: as a rookie, as the first year guy, but you.
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: Have a lot of veterans this year, a lot.
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: Of break that ballance trying to be a leader.
- 1:22:51Speaker 16: Work.
- 1:22:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I think that's a good point. I think it
- 1:22:54Speaker 11: goes back to just kind of building relations of different guys.
- 1:22:56Speaker 11: That's kind of my approach to it. You'll really get
- 1:22:59Speaker 11: to know them and I kind of see where we relate.
- 1:23:01Speaker 11: I think me and JP relate with Hey, we're both
- 1:23:03Speaker 11: you know, been working you know, football NonStop since you
- 1:23:06Speaker 11: know the end of the college season, and you know
- 1:23:08Speaker 11: sometimes they all the vets talk about the rookie wall
- 1:23:10Speaker 11: you hit and just kind of continue to get over
- 1:23:12Speaker 11: that hump and you'll just find each and every day
- 1:23:15Speaker 11: ways to you know, be excited about coming coming here
- 1:23:17Speaker 11: and playing football and playing in the NFL. I think
- 1:23:19Speaker 11: going back to that and kind of looking at the
- 1:23:21Speaker 11: bigger picture, you know, with JP and you know, some
- 1:23:24Speaker 11: of the Bake and those young guys and even you know,
- 1:23:26Speaker 11: to him, some of those guys, I think that's kind
- 1:23:28Speaker 11: of a reminder of, you know, this is what we
- 1:23:29Speaker 11: dreamed of and kind of dream doesn't stop now. I
- 1:23:32Speaker 11: think kind of just getting back to work and then
- 1:23:34Speaker 11: with those older guys, just kind of picking up this
- 1:23:36Speaker 11: and pieces that I can maybe carry into you know,
- 1:23:38Speaker 11: those young guys what can help us. I think that's
- 1:23:40Speaker 11: the kind of my approach to it. And those Hunter
- 1:23:42Speaker 11: and DA and some of those guys are stuff I'm
- 1:23:44Speaker 11: picking up every day with Jacobe in the quarterback room.
- 1:23:46Speaker 21: So questions tight ends might have a better understanding of
- 1:23:50Speaker 21: the offense right now, and that's one reason why you're
- 1:23:53Speaker 21: targeting Hunter Henry. So watch you build a connection with
- 1:23:56Speaker 21: Hunter Henry sol Yeah, I would say.
- 1:23:58Speaker 11: The better understand I think the receivers, you know, they
- 1:24:00Speaker 11: had a great understanding. I think just you know, hunting
- 1:24:02Speaker 11: them see more reps of you know, different different things
- 1:24:04Speaker 11: that whether the safety, the linebackers or coverages can do
- 1:24:07Speaker 11: you know, Hunter and Hoop have you know, spent you know,
- 1:24:10Speaker 11: I don't know, comebind years probably seventeen plus or almost
- 1:24:13Speaker 11: twenty years in the NFL. You can see the kind
- 1:24:16Speaker 11: of the fed experience in that room of you know,
- 1:24:18Speaker 11: their field for space and their feel for hey, this
- 1:24:20Speaker 11: guy's you know, playing a man versus those young guys.
- 1:24:23Speaker 11: I think they're you know, some kind of feeling it
- 1:24:24Speaker 11: out and you know, JP maybe saying hey it's man,
- 1:24:27Speaker 11: you know, I'm working my route and little things like
- 1:24:30Speaker 11: that or pop. So I think I don't really understand thing.
- 1:24:33Speaker 11: It's just kind of the reps of getting it. So
- 1:24:34Speaker 11: I think that's something they continue to find and you know,
- 1:24:37Speaker 11: as the weeks go on, you'll still see that improved Drake.
- 1:24:39Speaker 11: Hunter mentioned that he feels like he needs to push
- 1:24:41Speaker 11: juice and energy this week.
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: Is that something you feel like he needs to bring
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: into the lockry?
- 1:24:46Speaker 11: I think as a quarterback and they need to bring
- 1:24:47Speaker 11: it every day every day. That's my responsibility that comes
- 1:24:50Speaker 11: with playing position is bringing juice. And you'll be the
- 1:24:52Speaker 11: guy that you know, somebody looked to, hey, if you know,
- 1:24:55Speaker 11: Drake's down and just the quarterback the football team. You
- 1:24:58Speaker 11: know something that's every day I need to, you know,
- 1:24:59Speaker 11: bring juice. And that's trying to kind of my personality anyway,
- 1:25:02Speaker 11: So appreciation.
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: And now great moments in.
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: History. So in your in your mind, you don't get
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: the title of weapon unless you're a real playmaker, a
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: real different.
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: So that's what we're talking about, right, that's the guys
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: that they will look at it. I look, I look
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: at you know, like they're like, they're interested in Brandon,
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: are you no, He's a guy that can take an
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: impact the game.
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: I look at it like, okay, what is what is
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: this quarterback's weapons? All right, he's got Hunter Henry at
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: tight end, he's got poke, he's got you know, you know.
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: Yes, that's different. You're just rattling off all the skill
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: in plays. But there's a difference between what.
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: Like, who are the dependable people that this quarterback?
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: Do you think Mario Douglas is a weapon?
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: He should be.
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: He's one of Jacoby Brissette's weapons. But is he a weapon?
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: But I like it, like.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: I'm going, I know, I know, I like you going.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: Don't you think he should be a weapon?
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: He's among his weapons, but he's not that kind of player.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Oh, I do I think he's dynamic.
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: I don't think he is. I don't think he's ever
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: seen I don't think he's ever shown any dynamic ability.
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: The Mario Douglas.
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: Yeah, you're talking about.
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: Pop Now, that's another great moment from.
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: All right back here. A Patriots on filtered A five
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: five pass five hundred is the Tea p x hutline
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: web radio at patriot dot com a's email address. We
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: continue to get emails that we're afraid to turn the
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: comments on on YouTube the chat. We're not afraid of anything.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: We had a racist on the chat, and until we
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: can install the filter, we're not turning the chat back on.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: It's not we're afraid of what you're gonna say, unless
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: it is a racist comment. Yeah, we don't want that, so,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: but I would like to get an update on how
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: that's going. I'll have to chat you are the boss brand.
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: He's taken a while, doesn't seem like it should take
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: that long. But as soon as we do that, we'll
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: turn the chat back on. And assuming that the filter works,
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: we'll keep it on. But if someone wants to act
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: a fool on that, we will turn it off again.
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: I'm sorry, you know, he really grinds my gears. Oh listen,
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: I mean you're afraid. It's like, screw you. I'm not
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: smart afraid right.
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: All right, I don't know what to tell you made
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: fun of Gerard may one of Bill Baliche. I guess
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: like it's not fear.
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: Yeah, anything else, anything that's transpired since the uh we're
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: waiting for Andre Hopkinson's evan.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: To come back from practicere Hopkins goes to Kansas City Chefs.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think that they needed to make
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: a move for somebody after losing all of those receivers.
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: But yeah, I think Hopkins is kind of back nine ish,
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: but he'll help. He'll be another one of these guys
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: that looked kind of looked down, and then who care
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: about Mahomes will be Yeah, we won't be playing for
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Tennessee right next week, right right, that's the next game
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: right after the Tennessee. Maybe I agree that is a winnable.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: We'll leave us, throw us something, give us something bad.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: I don't think he's playing, but whoever, who is it?
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: Mason Rudolph? Oh jeez, either way, either doesn't really matter.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Rock that's the formula backup baby, let's go here we.
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: Go tried and truth formula winning ways.
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: Get back to those winning ways.
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: Who says we can't stop the run?
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: Was that Derek Carry?
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Got Derek Carry's on the ah.
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: He's not there no more.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Guy, I thought we shut him down.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: Must be having a good season. I mean, I'm trying
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: not to talk about talk about rejuvenated.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: I mean, Paul say yesterday it's he was like, it's
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: really like under and lightning.
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: He didn't even have like an impact on the game
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: in the first half. I think he had four carries
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: the whole first half, and all of a sudden they
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: hand the ball to him a couple of times in
- 1:29:03Speaker 5: the second half when it's just like eighty yards down
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: the sideline, forty yards off tackle. It's just like these
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: chunk plays.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: I just I can't imagine in the small amount of
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: football that I played, because I always just found that
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: really kind of hard when you got used to one
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: kind of running back or you know, keing off of
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: one guy and this is how they and then all
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: of a sudden they bring in like this little kid
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: who like the other way, and it was just like
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: not that that's the same, but like going from Henry
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: and then like Lamar Jackson is like going mock to
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: around the court. Like I just imagine your head is
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: spinning as a as a defensive player trying to deal
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: with those.
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: Might Yeah, they're gonna have to fix these because you
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: can win with with great offense and SoC defense, but
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: their defense is flat out bad and it's hard to
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: imagine that your offense is just gonna be great every game.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: It's one of my biggest questions right now about this era, though,
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: is is it are these guys? Are these like are
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: the Lamars of the world or the Josh Allens of
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: the world. Are they going to become the Philip Rivers
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: who just happened to be here and happen to be
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: when the goat of this period is dominating things? And
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: are either of those teams ever going to be able
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: to consistently get past I'd argue.
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: Both of them, I mean, I totally get your point.
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: I'd argue both of those guys have already exceeded Philip Rivers. Yeah,
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: like Philip.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Rivers they had like the year and I mean, but
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: at least Mannon got a couple like O.
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: Six oh seven. They the Chargers were like true contenders
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: after that, they're like.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: That's fair. I didn't want to use Manning just because
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: he did actually get one. You know, there were just
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: a handful of really.
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: What's a fair almost Homes Brady and is everybody else Manning?
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: You know, maybe you'll win one or two, but yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: never the other guy's won.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Sick, right, is Lamar gonna get in? When it's all said,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: like Lamar's got one and Mahomes has six, Like.
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: Like, I think it's a it's a fair question to
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: ask right.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: Now, put they're asking themselves.
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: I wonder I don't know, like the whole thing with
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: the Chiefs, they're undefeated and everybody just looks like, well,
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: they don't look great.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: They never do the last couple of years, it's been
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: like they.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: Don't look great in these games against you know, kind
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: of so so competition.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: Homes says, this is the worst you know, six and
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: oh start I've ever he's ever had.
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: And did he really say that? Like felt like Tom?
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: Like Tom did.
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: Let's get back to the TPX outline. Trey's in Memphis.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: What's up? Trey?
- 1:31:22Speaker 12: Hey, guys, how's it going?
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: Okay?
- 1:31:25Speaker 12: Many can't you guys?
- 1:31:26Speaker 17: Hear me?
- 1:31:28Speaker 12: All right, So Beny Wise that I've called man, but
- 1:31:31Speaker 12: I have been listening. I just have a couple of
- 1:31:33Speaker 12: teams and a fridge. Please don't hit the button. Cut
- 1:31:37Speaker 12: me off. I'm not gonna curry. But when I look
- 1:31:40Speaker 12: at a couple of the teams like the uh, the Jaguars,
- 1:31:44Speaker 12: the Pensionadi Bagels, and the Ditans, they do have those
- 1:31:50Speaker 12: they do have those weapons that we would love to have.
- 1:31:54Speaker 12: I mean, but when you look at both those teams,
- 1:31:57Speaker 12: those teams an't want a game of du better than you.
- 1:32:01Speaker 12: And the second thing gonna during the off season, I
- 1:32:03Speaker 12: want to this is what I would do if I
- 1:32:07Speaker 12: was Gerry Meo. I was demote the Marcus covering in
- 1:32:11Speaker 12: his ad. Hey, man, you know you just go back
- 1:32:13Speaker 12: to being a decoordinator. And I would talk to Alixavan
- 1:32:19Speaker 12: Pilp to see if if I decided to make a
- 1:32:25Speaker 12: move or just have him to just be a QB
- 1:32:29Speaker 12: coaching So what you guys.
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: Okay, so who's who's your defensive coordinator and who's your
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: offensive coordinator? In that scenario?
- 1:32:36Speaker 12: Well now, I mean, but I'm just saying that if
- 1:32:41Speaker 12: I was to make it, I mean, it's different, just
- 1:32:46Speaker 12: a scenario they don't putting out that. I mean, but
- 1:32:50Speaker 12: I don't know it's far to be coordinated wise. I mean,
- 1:32:52Speaker 12: but if been with me, I think Mayo still do
- 1:32:57Speaker 12: like what Billy Kick did over the years, be the
- 1:33:01Speaker 12: main guy just really you know, calling the defensive just
- 1:33:05Speaker 12: just half the guys with a title. Now, as far
- 1:33:08Speaker 12: as offensive coordinator, I have no idea. I mean, because
- 1:33:14Speaker 12: I don't know who would want to I'm gonna take
- 1:33:18Speaker 12: this offensive job.
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the problem this year.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: I mean so yeah, that was an underrated problem, like
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: filling out the coaching staff at a hard time finding
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: guys that wanted the job they did the other you
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: know when like Covington and Van Pelt are probably I'm
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: not going to say never because you know, you never know,
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: but they're probably not going to accept emotions to stay here.
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: Like you're not going to have Alex van Pelt. We
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: want you to be the quarterbacks coach. Now, you know
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: it's probably not going to happen.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: No, right, there's no I know that's I mean, yeah,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: like I.
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: Had someone in the mail bag this week suggested that
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: they should make Gerard Meo the defensive coordinator and hire
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: a new head coach like, what makes you think. I
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: suppose you could say, well, he continues to get paid
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: because he's under contract and he gets the same money.
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: But like, even it's so unreal.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: It's not gonna work for the team when all of
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: a sudden you're you're you're neutering your head coach and
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: you got a new guy in and it's just you
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: gotta just sit and take it and hope that they
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: find a way to get these guys to play better.
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: Yep, Lee and malvern Uk says I enjoyed the experience
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: of the London game. Thought we might be off to
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: of the races as we started so well, split my
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: jeens celebrating the touchdowns, so it had to be a
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: bit more circumspect afterwards. But the Jaguars could have won
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: by far more if they'd run the ball from the start.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: This talk about the record not mattering. It does matter.
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: I want them to win every week and it matters
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: to every fan that pays to see the team, either
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: by going to a game, watching it in a bar,
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: or paying to watch it home. Start of this year
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: I thought that the team could end up with a
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: worse record than last year based on the fixtures, the
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: need to draft a quarterback in the first round, and
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: new coaches doing jobs they've never done. There's some bad
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: teams in the league and realizing where one of them
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: is tough to swallow.
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: I mean, that's the truth.
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: It is.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: It's just, you know, I'm okay with struggling, but there's
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: just a certain like bottom two, bottom three teams that
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: just there's.
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: A couple of years in the row. Like and the
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: other part of that is, like I think most people,
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: you know, the whole like the record doesn't matter. It
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: does matter, you know whatever. I don't think that the
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: record is the important thing. Like the one in six
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: part to me, is not the thing that's it's not
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: even anywhere near the most troubling part. It's the way
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: it looks. It's it's the stuff that we're talking about
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: instead of football. That's the most troubling part. You know,
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: we're talking about the coach Colin is players soft, The
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: players respond trying to respond to that. It's young guys
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: sort of you know, spouting off. It's the social media stuff.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: It's it's the you know, guys being inactive. You know,
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: like we're going to make changes and there's not really
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: any change. Those are the things to me that are
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: far more concerning than being one and six because I
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: kind of expected to be one in six. I actually
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: said yesterday, like I thought that there was a chance
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: if they lost to Seattle and the home opener, that
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: they would go to London winless, because I didn't think
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: they would beat Cincinnati. So one and six was the
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: best I kind of hoped for coming out of London. Yeah,
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: I honest, I so agree. I mean, I didn't think
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: it would look like this.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: But the Pepper's, the bar Moore situation with law enforcement,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I mean, those it happens. But at the same time,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: like that's the things you were hoping culture wise, that
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: you know, you're gonna have a team that isn't going
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: to be taking snipes at each other on social media,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: sending cryptic messages. I mean, I thought Tommy Kurrn had
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: a good question day to Kashon Booty, which Kashaon couldn't
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: really answer, But I liked what tom was getting at
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: of just like, you know, what's the what's the upside
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: of posting the social media good or bad? Like what
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: you know, like what can possibly come good of all
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: these things? All people do is speculate on like Jalen Polk.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: We said he's in concussion protocol. That could have been
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: as simple as I'm good. I'm good. You know I've
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: been concussion protocol. But peace I'm okay could have easily
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: been that, and other people can interpret it like peace,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: I'm out, And you just leave so much ambiguity that
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: it only what is it. Don't don't believe, don't feed
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: the hype like that's that's one of those things. Add
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: to the noise, add to the noise.
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: And we didn't mention. Did we mention that Mao said
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: that Polk is in the concussion protocol?
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I he left the game with a
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: head injury, you know, like to me, a head injury
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: isn't because they got a bump like he got concussed.
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: Any interest in Cooper Cup No, no, no, none.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: At all at this point.
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: Receivers that aren't going to be part of my next
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: good that he'll be thirty.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna like vehemently climb up mount I don't want
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: your free agent receiver. I'm going to climb out that
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: mountain and just lit.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: We got an email like in the as PFW a
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: little while ago and it was mentioning guys like Treylon
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: Burks for Tennessee who hasn't really established, you know, much
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: of a role in their receiving court. John Metchi in Houston,
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: same thing, and Walker Little, the tackle who came in
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: on Sunday to play for Cam Robbins for Jacksonville. Those
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: three guys i'd be interested in. You know, I don't
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: know if they're any good. I have no idea, but
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: they were you know, you could have. But I think
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: they're all Day two picks, so there was an element
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: of talent to them. In Burks's case, I think it
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: was a first round pick. Was I think Metchi was
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: a second rounder, and I think Walker Little was the
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: second rounder. As my voice Peter Brady's. So those kinds
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: of guys, they haven't really established anything with their current teams.
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: Maybe they can become available. Maybe you can. Now I'm
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: not giving you a second or third round pick for
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: those guys. I'm giving you sixth, you know, seventh round.
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: These guys not really played, but maybe young guys that
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: you could bring in develop that might be better than
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: what you have now. So they like Walker Little, wouldn't
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: he play left tackle for you? Right? Now and maybe
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: by the end of the year you're like, hey, we
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: might have something with Walker a little that you could
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: convince me to do. You could be a buyer if
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: that's the kind of guy you're buying.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: It's just the it's like the Amari Coopers of the world,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: and these moves, like these moves of grabbing a veteran
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: wide receiver in the middle of the season to kind
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: of put you're seeing what kind of teams are doing
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: that right now? They are not that team like, and
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: it's stupid to try to allocate resources on somebody that
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: isn't going to be part of it long term. So yeah,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I mean, I'm with Paul though. I mean, though, you know,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: taking shots on guys who are just coming off their
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: first contractor still in their twenties, I'm fine with it.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: It's just it's just the aged name that isn't the
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: player that they used to be. But he's got name recognition,
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: so the fantasy crowd knows who he is, and you know,
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: would Amari Cooper make a difference, I mean for this team.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: No, Freddie, I just wanted to bring up Cup again.
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: I tweeted this out yesterday and I took my I
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: took my beating like I should have. Someone called into
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: the the the postgame show and suggested the Patriots, you know,
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: you think Cooper Cup could be available. I was like,
- 1:40:13Speaker 5: why would the Rams trade him? Like he's finally going
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: to be coming back healthy. I think he's playing Thursday night,
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: Tomorrow night. They get an old quarterback. You know, those
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: receivers are a big part of their ow. But evidently
- 1:40:26Speaker 5: now I'll believe it when I see it, and I'll
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: tell you off air why. But the report came out
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: yesterday that that you know, they're they're taking calls or
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: they're interested in peddling Cooper Cup. And I get it,
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: he's thirty, when he's almost thirty two years old, he's
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: off injured. But for that reason, like the Chiefs again,
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: Cooper Cup makes sense, Like they need receivers. They're good
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: enough to win right now. I don't see any upside
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: for the Patriots now.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: They don't need much out of them. They need, you know,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: give us this year. That's it.
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: Give us this year and then if you get something left,
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: you can help us win a title.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: It's not like, hey, we want you to get get
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: familiar with Drake this year in the next year is
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: really when we're gonna shine, get a.
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: Cooper Cup and Kendrick Bourne. It's like East Eastern Washington's
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: receiver Corps.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Robin Bellingham writes in I really appreciate your balance takes
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: yesterday on all of the stuff going on in the
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: media between the organization and Belichick. Thank you for being
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: sane about it. This fan base is becoming so toxic
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: at this point that it makes it difficult to engage
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: with them at all if you disagree with the hive mind,
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: at least online. They've been killing ArKade for not being
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: for hiring Mayo, and as soon as the media started
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: talking about Mayo's job not being guaranteed for next year,
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: they're killing him for trying to save face by possibly
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: firing him. This fan base has become insane, and you're
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: the last place that's attempting to inject some sane, rational
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: opinions on the current state of the team.
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: I've never been described that way here. You go, Well,
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: it's just what I'm missane, is they come.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: I've kind of been going through this for a couple
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: of years now, Like I don't feel like it's we're
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: so out of what we're used to like they they
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: haven't been that great, Like we've been kind of trying
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: to calm the masses. I feel like, for you know,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: ever since twenty twenty two.
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: Really, I've said it a few times over the last
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: couple of years, and I just think that people you
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: you kind of talked about this a little while ago.
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: It's like when Bill was still here, you just you
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: kept in the back your mind wondering, you know, is
- 1:42:27Speaker 5: this the week, is this the week he turns it around?
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: I think people have been very slow to understand just
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: how far away they they have been, in my opinion
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: for three years. And in twenty one they made they
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: made the playoffs, but they weren't close. And then they
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: have gone They've gone backwards since and I don't think
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: people have really recognized it until now.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: Yeah, guess who's back from practice?
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: Has returned from practice?
- 1:42:56Speaker 20: Evan has turned.
- 1:43:00Speaker 8: Has returned from practice.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: The Evan what's up?
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: Hello? Do we want the good news first? To the
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: bad news?
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: I liked you decide?
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: Do you guys that like bad news first?
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: I want the goods?
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: The good news is that Vederian Lowe was back at
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: practice today for.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: The Patriots Showedy got low.
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: I think he's still going to be kind of limited,
- 1:43:27Speaker 6: but he was there when we took attendance. The bad
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: news is that there were four players absent. Jalen Polk,
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: who Dradmeo says in concussion protocol, Ramandre Stevenson, who I
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: am assuming is managing something throughout the week, Leyden Robinson
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: not present start practice after injuring his ankle, and Curtis
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: Jacobs is the fourth one, a linebacker, Curtis Jacobs, who's
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: been on the fifty three man roster for a while now. Uh,
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: that one perked up my years a little bit, coming
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: some roster transactions.
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: Possibly bringing Cooper Cup Cooper cut.
- 1:44:08Speaker 6: That's what I'm hearing.
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: Totally kidding, all right, So let's get into the details.
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: Rather a warm day out.
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: There, unseasonably warm, him going.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: He doesn't like the weather.
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: He know, I don't like people that I just gotta
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: be outside today, like it's just like okay.
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: Like I can see that, but does that doesn't care
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: for it.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: It just just relaxing.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: It's too sunny. You can't see the all twenty two.
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: It's really hard.
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: They're all happy it's warm out and relaxed. Some other
- 1:44:42Speaker 6: nature like, let's.
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: Just relax some mother nature.
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: Anyway, I'd be outside if I could be, absolutely But
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: do the players feel the same way. Did you see
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: a bounce of their step despite whatever everything that's going on.
- 1:44:56Speaker 6: I wouldn't say bounce. I would say that there is
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: good energy and focus, though I don't This does not
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: look like and it never does. I feel like I
- 1:45:04Speaker 6: get this question a lot from like people, you know,
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: my parents and stuff like does it feel bad?
- 1:45:09Speaker 18: Like you know?
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: I feel like it never actually does.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: Couldn't agree more.
- 1:45:12Speaker 6: Six and one one in six. I don't think it
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: really makes a difference. They're out there, it's another day
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: of practice. They're doing their job, so I have no
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: vibe changes.
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: I would say, huh, okay, well I'm not sure if
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: that's good. I don't know if I like that, you know,
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: I would. I would hope that you know. The vibe
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: when you're six and one is you know your upbeat.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: And I think the vibe when you're one in six
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: is we better get better. I don't know. I think
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: it's I think it should be a different vibe, but
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: that's just me.
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: Mike Felger have a lot in comment they think there
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: should be a good vibe. You should be and when
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: you're one in six, you should be wanting to do better, right.
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: Not the same.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: They want to win, not the same.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: So today was passing pads, okay, pads, work on the
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: run game on both sides of the ball.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: Maybe today and I can do that in practice these
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: days without being able to pound each other.
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't think that they do anything
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: differently than what we see in training camp on Wednesdays.
- 1:46:15Speaker 6: I think it is Wednesday is a pretty physical, physical day.
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: If Gerrod wanted to, I mean, I don't think it
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: would be advisable, you know, because the potential for inge.
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: But could he say, you know what, let's get on
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: the goal line. We're doing run and it's going to
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: be one hundred percent. Yeah, so the rules would allow
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: for that, Yeah yeah, yeah, sure, Yeah. I think Wednesdays
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: are a print. Now.
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: They probably aren't tackling to the ground. They're probably thudding,
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: you know, on a day like today. But I think
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: in the trenches it's it's like training camp, like it's live.
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: You know, they're they're going after it.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: Okay, So speaking of going after it, the media, yes,
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: seems to be a lot of things going on with
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: the media, Like it's you know, those who are you know,
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: on the side of the organization and those who aren't,
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: and you know there's infighting and statements being made, you know,
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: on Twitter and all this stuff. Yeah, oh, so, like
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: do you see any of that out there?
- 1:47:17Speaker 7: Is?
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: Is there a lot of consternation amongst the scribes.
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it's an interesting time to be a scribe. It's
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: an interesting time. I think it's difficult at right now
- 1:47:30Speaker 6: that you want to give Girod Mayo in his first
- 1:47:33Speaker 6: year as the head coach seven weeks in some grace
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: and some time to grow into the role, but you
- 1:47:38Speaker 6: also don't want to be labeled a water carrier either.
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: So it's like it's a tough balance of being critical
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: but also being fair to the fact that they told
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: us coming in this was going to be a rebuild
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: and that it might not be a lot of wins,
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: you know, early on and in year one. But you
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: also have to call a spade a spade. So I
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: think right now a lot of people are trying to
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: figure out how to strike that balance between the two.
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and are there camps. Is there Craft camp Belichick
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: camp or Mayo camp Belichick?
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: Camp right now, I would say that.
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: On their sleeves.
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: No, but I would say, in my opinion that everybody
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: still wants Mayo in this to succeed. I don't think
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: there's anybody out there, oh I do that. No one
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: I've talked to yet is out there saying that, you know,
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: they got they got a problem here with with Girod Mayo.
- 1:48:36Speaker 6: Like I think right now, a lot of people are
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: realizing he's a young coach that's making some mistakes. Maybe,
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: but let's give him some time. Let's give him some
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: opportunity here to pull out of this before we start,
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: you know, calling for his job or something like that.
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: Okay, any other observations, Uh, what about the game coming up?
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: I said, I'm kind of weirdly looking forward to this
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: game in the challenge that it poses for the offense. Yeah,
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: because the last the last time really the Jets kind
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: of had a good offense was when we played him, Yeah,
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: and they sacked the combination of the two quarterbacks seven times.
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: And I'm interested to see if may looks any different
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: or better against this same Jets defense as he did
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: the last and now they had a lot of injuries
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: last week in the secondary and all that stuff. But
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: you know, the front seven is still pretty much the
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: same as we've faced last time, and I want to
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: see how May handles it.
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: Yeah, it's an interesting it's a weird defense this year
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: for the Jets because statistically they're they're middle of the
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: pack and most things, and they're not very good based
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: off the stats. But you look at the roster and
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: it's all the same guys that have been there the
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: last couple of years that have been a great defense.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: You know, it's still Sauce, Gardner and Quentin Williams and CJ.
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: Moseley and all these different players. I think the one
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: thing that's changed for them is, you know, they've played
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: a lot more man coverage. They blitzed the Patriots a
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: ton in that Week three game, which was kind of
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: a big story coming out of that game. But then
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: it turned out that that was just sort of a
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: philosophical shift that the Jets were undergoing defensively. I think
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: they really liked their corners Reed and Sauce and even
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: Michael Carter in the slot, and they're trying to allow
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: those guys to play man to man a little bit
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: more often and use that to their advantage. But then
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: last week they lose Reid and they lose Michael Carter
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: and the backups got picked on a little bit. So
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: it's a it hasn't been a good defense relative to expectations,
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: almost a lot like the Patriots defense hasn't been good
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: to expectation. But I think big picture with this matchup
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: with the Jets, I mean, they got they got killed
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: in Week three, like they that was not a competitive game,
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: like the Jets completely overwhelmed them on both sides of
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: the football, And I just wonder if that was a
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: talent gap or if that was a bigger conversation about
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: the two rosters and everything, or if it was a
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: short week and home opener for the Jets and a
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: lot of buzz in the building for Aaron Rodgers and
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: all that kind of stuff.
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: So we'll see, the wheels hadn't come off yet.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, all right, TPX. Heutline is eight five to
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: five past five hundred. The email address is podcasts at
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: Patriots dot com. Let's see Kamel right sin He's from
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: wod Ye and I guess the athletic had some possible
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: trades for the Patriots. What do you guys, think of
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: these these trades. First one, Kendrick Bourne to the forty
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: nine ers for a six round pick? Would you do it?
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: I'd be interested in that.
- 1:51:38Speaker 11: No?
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: Thanks, no, thanks for a sixth round pick? Yeah no,
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: I drive a harder bargain than that. Okay, at the
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: trade deadline, like moments I knew who got traded for
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: a second round pick. Now we're gonna give Kendrick Borne
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: away for a sixth round pick?
- 1:51:51Speaker 7: That?
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: Would you would do it?
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: What are you gonna do with the sixth round pick?
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: Accumulated as many picks as I can? Okay, I want
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: like twelve twelve or so draft picks next year if
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: I can get them. I'm not I'm not just gonna
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: all right.
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: How about pick Jonathan Jones to the Vikings for a
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: six round pick? You do that too, you're your fire sale,
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: you'd sell it off.
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: Look, this doesn't mean like every single guy needs to
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: get traded, like I'm saying. They have a handful of
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: veteran players that are probably not going to be part
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: of your next good team.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: I think those are two of them. I think there's
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: probably another one coming up.
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: All right, Joshua, that would be the Lions for a
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: seventh round pick.
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: Again, I would You wouldn't.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: Drive a harder bargain than I don't.
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: Think these guys are worth any more than that.
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: I think Kendrick Bourne is definitely worth more than a
- 1:52:35Speaker 6: sixth round pick, But no chance the receivers every year
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: at the deadline get moved for more than sixth round
- 1:52:41Speaker 6: picks that can play in the league, like guys like
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: Born that are veteran guys that that.
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: Did the Hopkins just go for a fifth?
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: No, he gave it went for a conditional fourth, fourth or.
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: Right, so a fifth?
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: Yeah, unless the condition is they have to make the
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: Super Bowls to play a lot.
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: So like I think that's what you're looking at. Like
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: did the guys coming off of twenty a cl He
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: hasn't done anything yet this year to show he's healthy, right, Like,
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: I mean if he played the rest of this year
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: and it was next and you know, and all of
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: a sudden his production was where it was, say last year,
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: and then next year you wanted to trade them, Sure
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: you could get more than a sixth round pick.
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: For Osbourne and the seventh to the Ravens for six.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: No, I wouldn't do it.
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: I just don't see the point of any of these trades.
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: Like if this is all you're going to get for
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: these guys, Like, what's You're not gonna the sixth round
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: pick doesn't become a trade ship, right, you can move
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: up to but you're also the fifth round.
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: You're also not going to trade like five different guys, right,
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: Like I hear you. You're asking me about all these
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: different picks, all these different trades. Yes, I would trade
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: Kendrick kJ Osborne, who clearly wants to get traded. I would.
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: I would grant his wish, Like what is he doing
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: for you?
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: Right? And is he going to be here next year? So,
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: like I like.
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: Personally, Mike and I talked about this yesterday a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: I'm not in love with Day three picks. I understand
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: where everyon's coming from. He's not wrong, But what is
- 1:54:07Speaker 5: the biggest weakness on the team, like in totality the
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: offensive line. In my opinion, if you have a bunch
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: of Day three picks, you should be able to like
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: take like three four offensive linemen and hopefully come out
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: with two like guys that you can develop and be
- 1:54:23Speaker 5: backups for you. And so all of a sudden you
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: have some depth on the offensive line. Now you're gonna
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: have to take your left tackle in the first round.
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: I'm not saying add four sixth round picks so you
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: can get Will Campbell in the sixth rounds. No, I'm
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: not stupid like you need. If you're gonna get a
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: left tackle, you gotta get them early. But I mean
- 1:54:40Speaker 5: the micro Wentus of the world, that's where you get them. Yeah,
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: and I would like try to up my chances of
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: if I could take four, maybe I can get one
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: or two that are established backups for me next year.
- 1:54:53Speaker 6: See, like Jonathan Jones is a different story to me. O.
- 1:54:56Speaker 6: I love by the way, but he's getting up there
- 1:54:58Speaker 6: at the age and it were the clock's ticking there.
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: It just this team's got to be in the in
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: the game of accumulating talent, Like they have to get
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: more good players, not less. And if you start just
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: casting the guys off for sixth round picks and seventh
- 1:55:16Speaker 6: round picks, it's just.
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: Like, but they're gonna end up.
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: I'm not Kendrick Bourne. He's under contract. They just signed him.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: Okay, we I think a lot more of Kenrick Borne
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: than I do. But can I just throw out a
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: couple that we talked about before Evan got here, Like
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: would i'd be, you know, looking for you in terms
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: of like they need to acquire some picks. We got
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: an as PFW a little while ago, and I thought
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: they'd brought up three guys that would make sense, young guys,
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: John Metchi, Walker Little, and Traylon Burks.
- 1:55:47Speaker 6: Yes, so everybody's obsessed with Walker Little. I don't know why.
- 1:55:51Speaker 6: I think he's just a guy that has some upside
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: that could play on the left side. He hasn't really
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: done anything super impressive.
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: None of those three guys have done anything in the ape.
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we're looking for a guy with upside they can
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: play on the left side.
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: Yeah, but that are young, Like I'm not interested in
- 1:56:06Speaker 5: Cooper Cup at age thirty two.
- 1:56:08Speaker 6: Yeah, but like Walker Little, to me, is is more
- 1:56:11Speaker 6: of the same of what they've had come through here
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: at left tackle.
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: You know. So how much would you give for him?
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: Not much?
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: Not much?
- 1:56:18Speaker 6: And Traylon Burks is Nikhil Harry two point zero And
- 1:56:20Speaker 6: we all knew that coming out.
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: But it wasn't But wasn't. Wasn't Walker Little a second
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: round pick? Yes? So what left tackle do they have
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: that was taken that high. I've had that kind of
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: out of college.
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: That I'm more of what he's done in the NFL.
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: He's a backup college. He's a backup. Yeah, but my
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: point being, he's a young guy that was talented enough,
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: like this is a Belichick. Belichick would make one of
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: those moves without without question in my mind, something that
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: that guy possessed allowed him to be taken where he
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: was and it hasn't worked out. I'm going to get
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: it for nothing. I'm not going to extend the first round.
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: Like I'm not trading a second round pick for Walker Little.
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: I'm trading a seventh round pick for Walker Little, like
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: I'm not giving you anything of high value. But I'm
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: I'm rolling the dice that I can develop him. Maybe
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: I get you start striking throwing balls and strikes with
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: with you know, with with Scotty, with Scotti Peters like.
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: But that's what I want to give him, a young
- 1:57:19Speaker 5: guy who had some talent to try to develop as
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: opposed to like, No, I don't mean to be dis
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: with these guys are playing. These guys are playing their
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: asses off, trying to compete on the offensive line. It's
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: not Zach Thomas and Trey Jacobs's fault that they're in
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: like thrust into these prominent roles, right, But I want
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: to give Peters a little bit more talent to work
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: with and see if he can develop.
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: All Right, one more call, then we're going to wrap
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: it up. Samson, South Carolina, what's up, Sam Who?
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:57:49Speaker 17: Yeah, I'm listening to your show, and it's that the
- 1:57:51Speaker 17: name Walker Fettle is being bandied about. He is one
- 1:57:56Speaker 17: of the very players I think you could probably go last.
- 1:58:01Speaker 17: He fights some right tackle. He's been very started. He's
- 1:58:04Speaker 17: filled in for several people on the line, and he
- 1:58:07Speaker 17: fights hard back the bill. It will be better than
- 1:58:10Speaker 17: anybody who have a tackle right now. You can play
- 1:58:13Speaker 17: them on the left this year right, next year, pick
- 1:58:17Speaker 17: up Will Campbell, Allen right guard, walk for the little
- 1:58:21Speaker 17: right tackle Andrews and Brown in the middle. Out in
- 1:58:25Speaker 17: the free agency and get yourself a good left and
- 1:58:29Speaker 17: play Will Campbell at the left time. You've got Love,
- 1:58:34Speaker 17: You've got Bob, You've got Olive, you got Brown in
- 1:58:37Speaker 17: the middle. That's a pretty good court. That is a
- 1:58:41Speaker 17: much better line than.
- 1:58:42Speaker 12: What you have right now.
- 1:58:45Speaker 5: And the only, well only if all those things that
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: you just said work out.
- 1:58:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I just don't see Walker Little like other people do.
- 1:58:52Speaker 5: And you need Will Campbell to be a left tackle
- 1:58:54Speaker 5: day one. That's a big ask.
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know. We've had a lot of questions
- 1:58:58Speaker 6: about Walker Little, like I feel like for weeks now
- 1:59:01Speaker 6: because he's kind of available, you know maybe, and I
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: just I just don't I don't see saying to yourself
- 1:59:08Speaker 6: always we traded for Walker Little now right tackles stamped those.
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: Now, I'd be willing to take a shot at him
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: to see if I can develop him. I'm not trading
- 1:59:19Speaker 5: for him, plugging him in tomorrow and saying I don't
- 1:59:21Speaker 5: have to worry about that spot anymore. I have no
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: idea if he can play. He has and played for Jacksonville,
- 1:59:26Speaker 5: although we stepped in for Cam Robinson the other day
- 1:59:28Speaker 5: and they ran right down your throat with him as
- 1:59:30Speaker 5: part of it.
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: I just like the Southern accent. It's just keeps an
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: instant credibility.
- 1:59:36Speaker 5: I believe it from an SEC program.
- 1:59:40Speaker 6: So Walker Little is you know. Not to keep going
- 1:59:42Speaker 6: on about Walker Little, but he's one of those guys
- 1:59:45Speaker 6: that had a ton of upside coming out, but he
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: dealt with a ton of injuries in college, and so
- 1:59:50Speaker 6: he was one of those you know flyers that team's taken,
- 1:59:53Speaker 6: that that has the first round talent, but second round
- 1:59:55Speaker 6: pedigree type of player. And just like in college, it
- 1:59:59Speaker 6: just hasn't they have had that missing ingredient just hasn't
- 2:00:03Speaker 6: been there for him. So I just don't think he's
- 2:00:05Speaker 6: you know, a solution all right problem.
- 2:00:07Speaker 4: The solution is that this is the end of the show.
