When a veteran and his wife hit rock bottom—homeless and stranded with a broken-down car—United Way of Central Alabama didn’t just offer help, they rolled up their sleeves. Three staff members fixed the car, then whisked them to a hotel via Ride United. UWCA’s mission? To turn housing instability into stability, especially for seniors, veterans, and families. Their Priority Veteran program connects service members with housing, benefits, and rides; 211 offers free crisis support for rent, utilities, or shelter; and their Aging & Disability Resource Center empowers older adults to stay home…
