Transcript
- 0:00Good morning , everyone !
- 0:02I am your host , Barnaby Bullish , and you are listening to Spy Trader .
- 0:06It is 6 am on Sunday , September 13th , 2026 , here in the Pacific time zone .
- 0:13I am so glad you could join me as we prepare for what looks like a real rollercoaster of a week .
- 0:19Grab your morning coffee and settle in , because we have a lot of ground to cover to get your portfolio ready for the days ahead .
- 0:27We are currently entering one of the most historically volatile weeks of the entire year .
- 0:32Why ?
- 0:33Well , we have a perfect storm of events .
- 0:36This Friday , September 18th , is what we call quadruple witching day , where market index futures , market index options , stock options , and stock futures all expire at the same time .
- 0:48But even more importantly , we are staring down a highstakes Federal Reserve policy meeting this Wednesday and Thursday .
- 0:56Right now , inflation is stabilizing at 2.4 percent , and the market is pricing in a 75 percent chance that we will see a 25basispoint rate cut .
- 1:07However , some sticky servicesector inflation has kept the Fed feeling a bit cautious .
- 1:13Because of this , you should expect high volatility in the iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , also known as TLT .
- 1:23If Chair Powell signals that they are only doing one cut for the year , bond yields might spike , which usually puts a lot of pressure on growth stocks .
- 1:32But if he signals that we are starting a sustained easing cycle , we could see a beautiful relief rally in broad indices like the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust , or SPY .
- 1:44Early in the week , keep a close eye on JPMorgan Chase .
- 1:49As a leader for the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , its performance will be a major signal of whether the market expects a soft landing or a contraction .
- 1:59Moving over to tech , we are seeing a shift from the AI Summer of 2025 into what people are calling the ROI Autumn of 2026 .
- 2:09Investors are no longer just buying on hope ; they want to see real margins .
- 2:14Apple just held its annual product launch for the iPhone 18 , which features the new SiriGenAI integration .
- 2:21If the early preorder data hitting the wires this week looks soft , the Invesco QQQ Trust could see a two to three percent pullback .
- 2:30If that makes you a bit nervous , you might look toward the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , or XLV .
- 2:37This sector is noncyclical and historically performs well in midterm election years like 2026 .
- 2:45UnitedHealth Group is a key stock to watch here to help stabilize your holdings .
- 2:49I also want to mention the Vanguard Real Estate ETF , or VNQ .
- 2:55It is acting like a coiled spring right now .
- 2:57Real estate has been struggling with high rates , but a dovish pivot from the Fed could lead to a massive rally in REITs like Prologis .
- 3:06We also have some big news items to watch .
- 3:10Middle East tensions have caused a spike in oil prices , which helps Exxon Mobil as a geopolitical hedge but acts like a tax on the average consumer .
- 3:20Plus , this Tuesday , we get the Retail Sales report .
- 3:24This is the big vibe check for the American consumer and will be vital for the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF .
- 3:32So , what is the game plan ?
- 3:34For my conservative friends focused on capital preservation , consider increasing your exposure to the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF or the iShares Core U.S.
- 3:44Aggregate Bond ETF .
- 3:47Locking in current yields provides a great safety net .
- 3:50You might also look at Johnson and Johnson as a safe harbor during this tech repricing .
- 3:55For my growthoriented investors , if the Fed meeting causes a kneejerk selloff in tech , treat it as a buying opportunity .
- 4:04I would look to accumulate the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund , specifically targeting NVIDIA .
- 4:11By now in late 2026 , their software ecosystem is just as critical as their hardware .
- 4:17If NVIDIA dips below its 50day moving average early in the week , that might be your entry point .
- 4:24Finally , for diversification , consider the Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF , known as VEA .
- 4:32If the US dollar weakens after a Fed cut , international markets in Europe and Japan look very attractive .
- 4:40To wrap things up , expect Monday and Tuesday to be a bit choppy as we wait for the Fed .
- 4:45Wednesday at 2 PM Eastern is the pivot point .
- 4:49If the Fed is dovish , SPY and QQQ should rally .
- 4:53If they are hawkish , defensive sectors and Gold will be the only green on your screen .
- 4:59I recommend holding about 5 to 10 percent in cash going into Monday so you can capitalize on the midweek volatility .
- 5:07Use the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF for your core exposure and maybe a little VNQ for a tactical play on falling rates .
- 5:16That is it for this morning !
- 5:18Stay sharp , stay friendly , and I will see you next time on Spy Trader .
