- 0:13Speaker 2: This trade deadline week, it's here we'll see where the
- 0:16Speaker 2: Seattle Kraken go. Plenty of possibilities, but the most important
- 0:20Speaker 2: matter at hand. Tonight a pretty important game against a
- 0:23Speaker 2: very tough out the crack and taken on the Carolina
- 0:26Speaker 2: Hurricanes at seven o'clock Pacific time. We're on air six
- 0:29Speaker 2: point thirty for your pregame show, served up by Frostbrewed

- 0:48Speaker 2: We hope that you can join us here. A course
- 0:50Speaker 2: across the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network. Coming up,
- 0:54Speaker 2: we'll hear from Corey la Violette, who covers the Carolina
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hurricanes via the North State Journal and The Athletic. We'll
- 1:00Speaker 2: learn more about the opponent coming up, here for tonight,
- 1:03Speaker 2: opening a four game road trip on their side and
- 1:05Speaker 2: looking as tough as ever right now in a bit
- 1:08Speaker 2: for the top spot in the entire Eastern Conference. That
- 1:11Speaker 2: plus our highlights in just a bit and more reaction
- 1:14Speaker 2: after Saturday Night or the Kraken knocked off the Vancouver
- 1:18Speaker 2: Caducks in convincing fashion as well got a big night
- 1:22Speaker 2: from their top line, also with a hat trick that
- 1:26Speaker 2: all of a sudden wasn't just moments after it happened.
- 1:29Speaker 2: All this coming up here Corey Lavolette. Additionally, with more
- 1:33Speaker 2: on the Hurricanes, a team the Kraken are taking aim
- 1:36Speaker 2: at here for a one to one split in this
- 1:39Speaker 2: head to head series after the Kraken fell three two
- 1:42Speaker 2: in Carolina back in January. Well, Saturday Night maybe wasn't
- 1:47Speaker 2: an opponent that you could maybe size up as the
- 1:49Speaker 2: biggest game of the year, but as far as circumstances,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it felt like the biggest game of the year. Players
- 1:55Speaker 2: were certainly saying, coaches were certainly saying it was a
- 1:59Speaker 2: big one as well. With a Kracking trying to rebound
- 2:02Speaker 2: from back to back losses in Dallas and Saint Louis
- 2:05Speaker 2: by a combined total of ninety two and the playoff
- 2:09Speaker 2: race as tight as ever in the Western Conference. Here's
- 2:12Speaker 2: how the Kraken responded against the Canucks, opening a six
- 2:17Speaker 2: game homestand with the calls from Everger Fitzhugh and al Kiniski.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Here's a two on one Shane right and captain right across.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Captain shot twent' blocker save by Kevin Langan and he
- 2:27Speaker 3: goes down. I can save it done, left side.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Shot last, it's done in game six hundred opens up
- 2:41Speaker 4: the story.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Jade Schwartz and for Seattle on the right side sends
- 2:45Speaker 3: it across. Lars fires that one knocked down at front
- 2:48Speaker 3: right out.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Here's Elias Patterson.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Right shot blocked by everyone, the captain scrung three whatever
- 2:56Speaker 3: going down the slot. The captain blocks the shot, the
- 3:09Speaker 3: Carram springs it on a breakaway forehand backhand.
- 3:13Speaker 4: To the lead.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Three one Seattle well. Jordan Nibley attacking the shot up
- 3:18Speaker 5: with the point at the at the cracking of the ice,
- 3:21Speaker 5: gets a nice block off his shins. Pad sets himself
- 3:24Speaker 5: on a breakaway, goes forehead.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Back, then every in off the ivory three one crack.
- 3:31Speaker 6: It Darling to the line.
- 3:32Speaker 3: They'll get it back glass circle back in front, tipt
- 3:35Speaker 3: On goal injoing the corner comes over with a massive
- 3:38Speaker 3: gluff save.
- 3:39Speaker 1: As Lina's Conlson.
- 3:40Speaker 6: And Evander Keane, we're both barely on goal.
- 3:44Speaker 3: He'sop one by the cracking two. Vince Dunne here, Stevenson
- 3:48Speaker 3: down very cuts in front.
- 3:53Speaker 6: To the building.
- 3:53Speaker 4: They know what's at stake now m can hands it
- 3:56Speaker 4: off to the captain.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Every with an empty net. Pras short and everly un
- 4:10Speaker 3: natural hat trick for Seattle. Three goals in a row.
- 4:14Speaker 4: That's a five one the track and lead.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But you know, the fans, we're hoping for this goal
- 4:19Speaker 1: ever since the hat trick got called back. The hats
- 4:23Speaker 1: fly to the ice because Jordan able to get his
- 4:26Speaker 1: third of the game. And I give all the credit
- 4:28Speaker 1: to Jared McCann who got that puck at the red line,
- 4:31Speaker 1: got us head up.
- 4:32Speaker 5: He could have fired it, you know, he could have
- 4:34Speaker 5: fired it. He had the time to fired it. He
- 4:36Speaker 5: would have hit the net and score.
- 4:38Speaker 1: But he found the captain streaking through the middle, gave
- 4:40Speaker 1: him the puck, let him put it home for the
- 4:43Speaker 1: hat trick.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Five to one was your final score, with the Kraken
- 4:46Speaker 2: now taking two out of three against Vancouver this season,
- 4:50Speaker 2: one more matchup coming in Vancouver this month, but the
- 4:54Speaker 2: krack and also getting five points combined out of their
- 4:57Speaker 2: top line, and we're so close, so close to a
- 5:01Speaker 2: natural hat trick for Jordan every after he buried the
- 5:04Speaker 2: empty netter for the review confirmed his second goal of
- 5:07Speaker 2: the night deflected off of Maddie Beniers, so that goal
- 5:11Speaker 2: was changed, and Everly's settling for a two goal night
- 5:15Speaker 2: and three point effort. Nonetheless, a cracking getting leadership where
- 5:19Speaker 2: it mattered most for a win like that, and in
- 5:21Speaker 2: a game they had to have with less than a
- 5:24Speaker 2: week before trade deadline time coming up on Friday at
- 5:28Speaker 2: noon Pacific. Before we get to Corey Lavalette, here's more
- 5:31Speaker 2: reaction for the dressing room with defenseman Vince Dunn, who
- 5:34Speaker 2: scored a goal in his six hundredth career NHL game.
- 5:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I thought we played pretty good in the first period,
- 5:39Speaker 7: Like it's not always gonna be perfect, but I thought
- 5:41Speaker 7: when the breakdowns happened, we were pretty honest to support
- 5:46Speaker 7: each other and replace each other when we had to.
- 5:49Speaker 7: So that's the way you gotta win games, is when
- 5:53Speaker 7: you push, sometimes you get to push back and you
- 5:56Speaker 7: got to deal with that, and I thought we dealt
- 5:57Speaker 7: with that really good. And I think just the start
- 5:59Speaker 7: of the game getting shots and people to the net,
- 6:02Speaker 7: we did a pretty good job of getting too quick.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Scape You guys had Cushion in his second period. What
- 6:07Speaker 2: can you say about him and his leadership?
- 6:09Speaker 7: Yeah, he's been fantastic to play with ever since I've
- 6:12Speaker 7: been here, and it's definitely a huge presence in the
- 6:15Speaker 7: room whenever he's here. So I think, uh, just having
- 6:18Speaker 7: him and what he's dealt with in his career and
- 6:22Speaker 7: the injuries that he's come back from with his time here,
- 6:25Speaker 7: it's very inspirational to play with. And I think he's
- 6:27Speaker 7: done a really good job of leading the guys and
- 6:31Speaker 7: finding that balance of when to really push us and
- 6:34Speaker 7: and when to really guide us. So it's been a
- 6:37Speaker 7: pleasure playing with him and getting to know him as
- 6:39Speaker 7: a person, and I think everyone really respects his game
- 6:43Speaker 7: in this locker room. So it's a really good group
- 6:46Speaker 7: for him to lead. And Yeah, I can't say enough
- 6:48Speaker 7: good things about him.
- 6:51Speaker 5: If a has to summarize six hundred games or six
- 6:54Speaker 5: hundred starts into one word, what would that.
- 6:57Speaker 7: One word be? Uh could go a lot of different ways.
- 7:03Speaker 7: Maybe probably just thankful to to be able to play
- 7:08Speaker 7: that many games. It's not every opportunity, not uh at.
- 7:12Speaker 7: You know, everything doesn't really go your way sometimes and
- 7:16Speaker 7: you deal with a lot in your career and I've
- 7:19Speaker 7: had a lot of good things come my way. So yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 7: I'm just super thankful to be able to play that
- 7:23Speaker 7: many games. And it's such a pleasure to play with
- 7:26Speaker 7: these guys every single night and to learn about them
- 7:30Speaker 7: and to learn about myself and to grow as a human.
- 7:32Speaker 7: So it's been a lot of fun these past six
- 7:35Speaker 7: hundred games and a lot of accomplishments and milestones that
- 7:39Speaker 7: I've reached and been happy to to achieve. But yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 7: just hopefully six hundred more to to strive for. And
- 7:48Speaker 7: yeah we'll go to six to so one the next game.
- 7:50Speaker 5: It's after the the rough start on the road trip
- 7:53Speaker 5: to to make sure it didn't reach three of the
- 7:55Speaker 5: losing street coming out of the break, to get this
- 7:56Speaker 5: one and kind of get you guys right at how
- 7:58Speaker 5: how how big is this one for you? Is to
- 8:00Speaker 5: kind of get get the second back half here and going.
- 8:03Speaker 7: Yeah, I think we're pretty comfortable at home this year,
- 8:05Speaker 7: and especially when you play a team like Vancouver, there's
- 8:08Speaker 7: always emotions and it's always really good energy, and you
- 8:11Speaker 7: get a Saturday night game in our building, it's always
- 8:14Speaker 7: a no excuse game, and I think we did a
- 8:17Speaker 7: really good job of pushing it to them and getting
- 8:20Speaker 7: the points that we need right now. And I think
- 8:25Speaker 7: when you get a start like we did, it's just
- 8:27Speaker 7: shows a lot of character in the room and that
- 8:29Speaker 7: we're just kind of able to forget the bad things
- 8:31Speaker 7: that sometimes happen within a season. And I thought we've
- 8:34Speaker 7: done a pretty good job overall dealing with adversity, and
- 8:38Speaker 7: you know, sometimes you get down and the game's kind
- 8:40Speaker 7: of out of your hands, but I think we always
- 8:42Speaker 7: put up a fight every single night, and I have
- 8:45Speaker 7: no doubt when I come to the rank that we're
- 8:47Speaker 7: going to battle for each other.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So it's a lot of fun, all right. That brings
- 8:49Speaker 2: us here to a look at the second and final
- 8:51Speaker 2: matchup of the season, and by the looks of things,
- 8:54Speaker 2: it's going to be a tough one. The crack and
- 8:57Speaker 2: again taking on the Carolina Hurricanes. And joining us here
- 9:00Speaker 2: from the Hurricanes beat is Corey Lavalette of the North
- 9:03Speaker 2: Star Journal. Also from the Athletic As well, Corey, great
- 9:08Speaker 2: to have you. It's too bad that you're not on
- 9:10Speaker 2: this trip here, but maybe one of these days here
- 9:13Speaker 2: my friend, is there anything though on your to do
- 9:15Speaker 2: list if you want it the West Coast eventually?
- 9:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I've I've been out to Seattle once before.
- 9:22Speaker 6: I really loved it, thought it was just really beautiful.
- 9:25Speaker 6: But yeah, I want to see everything, so getting up
- 9:29Speaker 6: there now in years a bit, both my kids are
- 9:31Speaker 6: my kids are moving out and growing up, so it's
- 9:34Speaker 6: getting to be time to start doing some of that
- 9:36Speaker 6: stuff that my wife and I wanted to do. So
- 9:39Speaker 6: we love it, love it out there when we went
- 9:41Speaker 6: out there. My life's going back out there next month.
- 9:43Speaker 6: She's got a high school friend who graduated high school
- 9:45Speaker 6: with that was out in Seattle. So yeah, love it,
- 9:49Speaker 6: love it out in the in the Pacific Northwest.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I've got two boys here who are still in grade
- 9:53Speaker 2: school right now, so very relatable. I've got friends, especially
- 9:57Speaker 2: one from our TV side of course, still with connections
- 10:01Speaker 2: and ties and Rawleigh, and I'm taking the golf clubs
- 10:03Speaker 2: out there one of these days if you can, certainly
- 10:05Speaker 2: ask me. But the hurricanes in Tampa Bay right now, Corey,
- 10:09Speaker 2: it seems like, man, right now, they are the class
- 10:11Speaker 2: of the Eastern Conference. But what are we learning about
- 10:14Speaker 2: the state of the Hurricanes after they beat Detroit five
- 10:16Speaker 2: to two heading into this trip for them?
- 10:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, coming out of
- 10:21Speaker 6: the break, I think every team has a little bit
- 10:23Speaker 6: of rust to knockoff, and I think you've seen that
- 10:25Speaker 6: a bit with the Hurricanes, a little bit of sloppiness.
- 10:27Speaker 6: But they're finding ways to win, right and that's what
- 10:30Speaker 6: good teams do. I mean, twelve games in a row
- 10:32Speaker 6: now with at least a point ten and two. You know,
- 10:36Speaker 6: Jacob Slave and being back has just been huge for them.
- 10:38Speaker 6: They haven't lost the game this season in regulation when
- 10:42Speaker 6: Jacob Slaven has played, and that's that's an insane statistic
- 10:46Speaker 6: to think about. So him being back really stabilizes the defense,
- 10:50Speaker 6: has kind of slotted everything in. And then the goaltending obviously,
- 10:55Speaker 6: you know, goaltending's voodoo. But they they think I think
- 10:58Speaker 6: they they may have found gold with Brandon Bussey, got
- 11:01Speaker 6: him re signed during the break to a three year extension.
- 11:04Speaker 6: And then Frederick Anderson last night might have been their
- 11:07Speaker 6: best player. He played really well. So things are kind
- 11:11Speaker 6: of coming together. We'll see what they can do at
- 11:14Speaker 6: the trade deadline if they want to to bolster the
- 11:17Speaker 6: lineup a bit. But yeah, they look like one of
- 11:22Speaker 6: the teams to be You mentioned Tampa and I think
- 11:23Speaker 6: those are the two teams that out east that are
- 11:26Speaker 6: going to be, you know, the two big dogs.
- 11:29Speaker 2: The Hurricanes have always been some of the parts team
- 11:32Speaker 2: typically under Rod Brenda Moore. I mean, they'll make a sweat,
- 11:34Speaker 2: they'll make you skate. They have tried the quote let's
- 11:38Speaker 2: acquire a superstar end quote exercise last year, particularly in
- 11:42Speaker 2: Miko Rantonen. That didn't last long, and then their big
- 11:45Speaker 2: swing this past summer was picking up Nikolai eelers Corey.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Where do you see the Hurricanes needs in particular and
- 11:52Speaker 2: maybe even the targets heading into the trade deadline by
- 11:55Speaker 2: the end of this week.
- 11:57Speaker 6: You know, I think the way that GM Eric Telsey
- 11:59Speaker 6: thinks about these things is, you know, we're going to
- 12:03Speaker 6: be in on everything. If there's a player out there
- 12:05Speaker 6: that can make us better. His his his line is always,
- 12:08Speaker 6: you know, until we have the eighteen best skaters and
- 12:11Speaker 6: the two best goal he's dressed, you know that we
- 12:13Speaker 6: can always get better. So I think they're going to
- 12:15Speaker 6: look everywhere and see where they can get better. You know,
- 12:18Speaker 6: they took a runt at Quinn Hughes. Obviously that didn't happen,
- 12:22Speaker 6: but you know, I could see an you know, at
- 12:26Speaker 6: a defenseman, maybe a Jalen Chatfield has played really well.
- 12:29Speaker 6: I don't know that he's a top pairing defenseman and
- 12:31Speaker 6: that's where he's playing right now with Jacob Slavin, but
- 12:34Speaker 6: he's still a very good defensive defenseman. So I could
- 12:38Speaker 6: see them looking at defense if there's anything out there.
- 12:41Speaker 6: A lot of people talk about the second line center situation.
- 12:44Speaker 6: I know they're very happy with what they've gotten out
- 12:47Speaker 6: of Logan Stankhoven in that line, especially something to keep
- 12:51Speaker 6: an eye on. Since coming out of the break these
- 12:53Speaker 6: last two games, that's been far and away Carolina's top
- 12:55Speaker 6: line with Stankhoven, Jackson Blake and then with the former
- 13:00Speaker 6: MVP Taylor Hall, and those three have been really, really dominant.
- 13:04Speaker 6: I talked to Taylor Hall about this a little bit
- 13:06Speaker 6: after the game last night, and he said, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 6: things get tougher on the road, though you know they've
- 13:10Speaker 6: they've gotten favorable matchups. The Hurricanes have two great second
- 13:15Speaker 6: line center or defensive centers rather in in Sebastianajo and
- 13:19Speaker 6: Jordan Stall who can lock down other teams good players
- 13:22Speaker 6: and that frees those guys up. But it's different on
- 13:24Speaker 6: the road, so you know, Seattle's going to get to
- 13:27Speaker 6: dictate those matchups. So you know, I think the big thing,
- 13:30Speaker 6: you know, getting back to your question is you know
- 13:32Speaker 6: they're going to need to just look for what can
- 13:35Speaker 6: make them better overall, what can make their depths better.
- 13:38Speaker 6: But they I think they already feel like they're a
- 13:39Speaker 6: lot deeper team than they were last year when injuries
- 13:42Speaker 6: really hurt them in the playoffs.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It still seems like yesterday to me that Taylor Hall
- 13:46Speaker 2: was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers and here
- 13:49Speaker 2: he is now as a thirty four year old veteran
- 13:51Speaker 2: on this Hurricanes team. To you, what kind of role
- 13:55Speaker 2: has he played and are people looking at him to
- 13:58Speaker 2: play coming up here for the Stresch Drive.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean he's a great fit with those two
- 14:03Speaker 6: young guys. Right, You've got two guys that are in
- 14:05Speaker 6: there really their second full NHL season in Blake and
- 14:08Speaker 6: Stankovin and Jackson. Blake told us last night, he said,
- 14:11Speaker 6: you know, if he talks I'm going to listen to him.
- 14:13Speaker 6: That's a guy who you know, won MVP and has
- 14:16Speaker 6: been around the league. But I think the interesting thing
- 14:19Speaker 6: to see with him is, and we've seen it with
- 14:21Speaker 6: Andre Spechnikov too, is you know, both those guys suffered
- 14:24Speaker 6: knee injuries, and now that we have that NHL Edge
- 14:26Speaker 6: data where we can see, you know, how fast team
- 14:29Speaker 6: you know, players are, how many speed bursts they have,
- 14:31Speaker 6: things like that, you can see both those players are
- 14:34Speaker 6: fully back, and Taylor Hall is fully back from the
- 14:37Speaker 6: knee problems he had, and he's an explosive player. Again,
- 14:40Speaker 6: He's not being asked to be at, you know, at
- 14:43Speaker 6: top of the lineup guy. I know that's their quote
- 14:45Speaker 6: unquote second line, but you know, he's he's a little
- 14:48Speaker 6: further on the you know, down the depth chart as
- 14:50Speaker 6: far as who their top forwards are. But he's really
- 14:53Speaker 6: valuable because it's it's that secondary scoring that becomes so important,
- 14:57Speaker 6: you know, down the stretch and in the postseason. U
- 15:00Speaker 6: And he's got a you know, I think he's got
- 15:01Speaker 6: a great attitude about where he is in his career,
- 15:03Speaker 6: and you know, he doesn't have to be the guy anymore.
- 15:06Speaker 6: I think he's looking to win. He did. He did
- 15:09Speaker 6: get his veneer knocked out last night, so he was
- 15:11Speaker 6: not happy about that. But yeah, he's he's a really
- 15:16Speaker 6: interesting guy. I really like talking to him, very very thoughtful,
- 15:19Speaker 6: and I think he's a really good fit with those
- 15:22Speaker 6: those two young forwards.
- 15:23Speaker 2: We'll see how long it takes here for the tooth
- 15:25Speaker 2: Fairy to help out. Taylor Hollis Corey Lavalett joins us
- 15:27Speaker 2: hear once again on cracking this morning. Seth Jarvis will
- 15:30Speaker 2: come back here to the Pacific Northwest, of course, formerly
- 15:33Speaker 2: a Portland winter Hawk and pushing career highs in goals
- 15:37Speaker 2: right now and playing a big role previously for Team
- 15:40Speaker 2: Canada that came so close to a gold medal at
- 15:44Speaker 2: the Olympics. Seth Jarvis is just twenty four years of age.
- 15:48Speaker 2: He is now or close to being in his prime.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Or is there another level, like say a forty gold
- 15:55Speaker 2: guy out of him that we're talking about in this future.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I think there is another level. I think he
- 16:01Speaker 6: probably would have gotten a forty this year if he
- 16:03Speaker 6: hadn't got got hurt for a little while. I think
- 16:07Speaker 6: the thing about him is he's such a deceptive player.
- 16:09Speaker 6: He doesn't play the game like you know a Connor McDavid,
- 16:13Speaker 6: where Connor McDavid is just shot out of a cannon
- 16:16Speaker 6: and he's coming at you a million miles an hour.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Seth Jarvis is pretty analytical in the way he attacks defenses,
- 16:22Speaker 6: but then I think he catches teams off guard so
- 16:25Speaker 6: much with just how fast he is. He can turn
- 16:28Speaker 6: kind of turn the jets on pretty quickly, and just
- 16:30Speaker 6: a super smart player. The way. The way I always
- 16:32Speaker 6: describe him as he came in here as a you know,
- 16:35Speaker 6: right out of the draft, surprisingly made the team, had
- 16:38Speaker 6: a really good rookie year, and they said, okay, Seth,
- 16:41Speaker 6: if you're going to be, you know, a real NHL star,
- 16:45Speaker 6: you need to build your game from you know, your
- 16:47Speaker 6: net out. You need to be a two hundred foot player.
- 16:49Speaker 6: And the comparison I always make is when Tiger Woods
- 16:52Speaker 6: showed up and he blew up the Masters and everyone
- 16:54Speaker 6: was like, oh my god, what's going to happen? And
- 16:56Speaker 6: then he and Butch Harmon totally reworked his swing. They
- 16:59Speaker 6: started from the round up and built them up to say, Okay,
- 17:02Speaker 6: you can do good things, let's do great things. And
- 17:05Speaker 6: that's what they've done with Seth Jarvis, and I think
- 17:08Speaker 6: he's a superstar in the making his person He's full
- 17:11Speaker 6: of personality too, exactly the kind of thing you know
- 17:14Speaker 6: the league needs so great, a great player to watch,
- 17:18Speaker 6: you know, all situations, and just a really good guy too.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Remember back, of course, when he played for WHL Portland,
- 17:25Speaker 2: there was always one motto and his play with confidence
- 17:29Speaker 2: and play the pocket as well with confidence. And there's
- 17:31Speaker 2: one guy that certainly embodies that under what he was
- 17:33Speaker 2: coached with Mike Johnson and now turning a lot of
- 17:36Speaker 2: heads now in his NHL career. Finally, Corey, the Hurricanes
- 17:40Speaker 2: road trip begins this evening in Seattle. Four games on
- 17:43Speaker 2: the road. Last time the Kraken played them a two
- 17:46Speaker 2: to one lead, went up and smoke in period three.
- 17:49Speaker 2: The Hurricanes rallied in period three, So I wouldn't be
- 17:52Speaker 2: surprised if another three to two game might be on
- 17:54Speaker 2: the menu. But did anything stand out may be from
- 17:57Speaker 2: the last matchup in January that applies to for you
- 18:00Speaker 2: this evening.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I think that the crack and our
- 18:04Speaker 6: sneaky team. I like a lot of those players that
- 18:07Speaker 6: maybe don't get talked about a lot. Elie Tolbinan was
- 18:10Speaker 6: supposed to be a sniper, and he's really turned himself
- 18:13Speaker 6: into you know, a really good all all around the
- 18:17Speaker 6: ice player, you know, more physical than you would expect
- 18:19Speaker 6: from a guy who was known for having this laser shot.
- 18:23Speaker 6: So I really, you know, I think those weapons like
- 18:26Speaker 6: that can hurt the Hurricanes. Guys who can beat you
- 18:29Speaker 6: with one shot. You know, that's that's true of any team.
- 18:33Speaker 6: But I think you know, the way the Hurricanes can
- 18:35Speaker 6: suffocate you and deny you on zone entries, clog up
- 18:39Speaker 6: the neutral zone. Really, their gaps, you know, uh Saturday
- 18:43Speaker 6: night were just so so good, just not even letting
- 18:46Speaker 6: Detroit get any speed. So having guys like that, I know,
- 18:50Speaker 6: you know, maybe the gripe out of Seattle has been
- 18:52Speaker 6: there isn't a superstar there that's been the gripe in
- 18:54Speaker 6: Carolina too, But you've got guys with individual talents. You know,
- 18:58Speaker 6: McCann can score from anywhere, told on and I think
- 19:01Speaker 6: can score from anywhere. So I think I think that's
- 19:04Speaker 6: something to watch. And then obviously the goaltending is going
- 19:07Speaker 6: to be a big thing, right we all we all
- 19:08Speaker 6: see what what goaltending means to a team. I mean,
- 19:12Speaker 6: if you have good goaltending. You look like a really
- 19:14Speaker 6: good coach. And I know, I know, Seattle's gotten good
- 19:18Speaker 6: goaltending this year. Carolina, certainly from Brandon Bussey, has gotten
- 19:23Speaker 6: great goaltending, and now Fredick Anderson's coming around too, So
- 19:27Speaker 6: to me, it'll come down a lot to the goaltending
- 19:29Speaker 6: matchup and then the special teams. Carolina's power play is
- 19:32Speaker 6: much better now than it was earlier in the year,
- 19:34Speaker 6: So Seattle's got to be smart. Don't get caught up,
- 19:36Speaker 6: you know, taking penalties, you know, not moving your legs,
- 19:40Speaker 6: things like that. You've got to You've got to stay disciplined,
- 19:42Speaker 6: because Carolina's power play now looks like one of the
- 19:44Speaker 6: best in the league after really being bad early in
- 19:47Speaker 6: the year.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And it'd be a fun one here to keep an
- 19:49Speaker 2: eye on. Appreciate the intel, Corey, enjoy the stress drive.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's going to be a great one as well. And
- 19:54Speaker 2: thanks again. We'll Todd down the road.
- 19:55Speaker 6: Sounds great, Thanks so much, all right.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Corey, Thank you very much. That's Corey lava Lette. Check
- 19:59Speaker 2: it in here with us, who again covers the Hurricanes
- 20:02Speaker 2: for the North State Journal and The Athletic. Find him
- 20:05Speaker 2: at Twitter and x at Corey Lavallette again, Carolina entering
- 20:09Speaker 2: a four game road trip, the Kraken entering game two
- 20:12Speaker 2: of their six game homestand and the mission a one
- 20:15Speaker 2: to one split. Here the head to head series after
- 20:17Speaker 2: the Kraken fell three two to the Hurricanes back in
- 20:20Speaker 2: Carolina in January, this is going to be a tough
- 20:23Speaker 2: one here. The Hurricanes come in right now fifth best
- 20:25Speaker 2: NHL for goals score three point four per game, seventh
- 20:28Speaker 2: best in the NHL two point eight goals per game.
- 20:31Speaker 2: We mentioned the power play and how much they've improved
- 20:34Speaker 2: the Kraken looking for a similar formula as in matchup
- 20:37Speaker 2: number one, stay out of the box, and except for
- 20:40Speaker 2: one time, they were letter perfect Carolina going zero for
- 20:43Speaker 2: one on the power play in that first matchup back
- 20:46Speaker 2: on January tenth, the Kracking getting goals scoring from Matty
- 20:49Speaker 2: Beniers and Berkeley Catton as well. In that contest, Logan Stankovin,
- 20:54Speaker 2: Jordan Martin Nigwilliam Carrier had the goals. It's still pretty
- 20:57Speaker 2: tight right now in the Western Conference playoff race with
- 21:00Speaker 2: the NHL trade deadline four days away. San Jose beat
- 21:04Speaker 2: Winnipeg yesterday, so the Sharks, Predators, and Kings, who also
- 21:08Speaker 2: fired their head coach Jim Hiller, replacing him with interim
- 21:11Speaker 2: DJ Smith. All stand three points back of the Kraken
- 21:15Speaker 2: for the final wildcard spot Utah. Though lost on Sunday,
- 21:19Speaker 2: the Kraken are one point back of the Mammoth, not
- 21:22Speaker 2: to mention as well one point back of third place
- 21:26Speaker 2: Edmonton in the Pacific Division. So certainly a lot on
- 21:29Speaker 2: the line here with plenty of games coming up here
- 21:32Speaker 2: for this exciting stretch drive for the Kraken trying to
- 21:35Speaker 2: make their big push here for the second trip into
- 21:38Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Matchup number two of two is
- 21:42Speaker 2: gonna be a fun one. Hope you can join us
- 21:44Speaker 2: once again on air six point thirty face off little
- 21:48Speaker 2: past seven o'clock from climbing Pledge Arena ever written out
- 21:51Speaker 2: in the booth, I'll join you once again back by
- 21:53Speaker 2: the Corps light landing in section twenty postgame across the
- 21:56Speaker 2: street at Tom's Watch Bar. Big thank him again to
