Rickie Castrillo, the soulful New Orleans guitarist and beloved Birmingham music icon who found a second home after Hurricane Katrina, has died at 80. A child prodigy who jammed with B.B. King and Fats Domino, he spent 25 years as Tipitina’s stage manager and MC before relocating to Birmingham, where he became a pillar of the local blues scene. Carrying just a few belongings after Katrina, he poured his heart into music, playing at The Garage Cafe and Marty’s Bar, and mentoring young Alabama artists.
