- 0:09ignore. In fact, research shows that

- 0:16fatigue, but many don't realize it's actually a core symptom of
- 0:20the disease. And that's why today I want to
- 0:22share 5 warning signs of Parkinson's fatigue that you
- 0:25need to pay attention to. Because recognizing these signs
- 0:29can help you manage the better. And maybe even explain to the
- 0:33people around you what you're actually dealing with.
- 0:36And stick around till the end, because I've got a Bryce ISM for
- 0:39you. That sums up what living with
- 0:41Parkinson's fatigue really feels like.

- 1:08Our channel is all about providing strength, hope,
- 1:10support, and community to individuals living with
- 1:13Parkinson's and they're caregivers.
- 1:15And as you can see, this isn't my normal surroundings.
- 1:18I'm actually traveling right now, so bear with me and
- 1:20hopefully the tech's working. But today's episode is 5
- 1:24Parkinson's Fatigue warning signs that you can't ignore.
- 1:28And let's get right into this because flag #1 it's a fatigue
- 1:31that doesn't match your activity.
- 1:33Now, normal tiredness makes sense.
- 1:36You mow the lawn, you exercise, you stay up late, your body
- 1:39says, OK, time to rest. But Parkinson's fatigue, it's
- 1:43like the rules don't apply. You can do almost nothing, and
- 1:47suddenly your body shuts down like you just ran a marathon.
- 1:51Now for me, I remember sitting at my desk one morning, coffee
- 1:55in hand, you know, having barely done a thing all day, and
- 1:58suddenly it felt like gravity had doubled.
- 2:00I slumped there thinking, how is this happening when I haven't
- 2:03even started my day? I haven't done anything all day
- 2:06and now I know I'm not the only one.
- 2:08Some some of you told me that sometimes it's like simple
- 2:12things like taking a shower or getting dressed can leave you
- 2:14completely wiped out. That's why this first red flag
- 2:18matters. You can't always explain it, but
- 2:21you know it's you know it when it hits you.
- 2:25And here's where it gets tricky because normally when you're
- 2:29tired, rest fixes it. But that brings us to our second
- 2:32warning sign, and that is fatigue that doesn't go away
- 2:36with rest. Like, you'd think a nap or a
- 2:39good night's sleep would reset the system, but Parkinson's
- 2:42fatigue doesn't play by those rules.
- 2:45One of you shared in the comments that you're you slept
- 2:4810 straight hours and you woke up still feeling like you hadn't
- 2:51slept at all. And that hit me because I've had
- 2:54those nights, too. I go to bed early, I wake up
- 2:57late and I still feel like I didn't even sleep.
- 3:01Now for some, this looks like waking up more tired than when
- 3:04you went to bed or you crashed in the middle of in the middle
- 3:07of the day for an hour or two only to wake up groggy and you
- 3:10still feel exhausted. That's the second red flag when
- 3:13rest doesn't actually recharge you.
- 3:16And that's hard because people around you, they might think,
- 3:19well, go rest, right? If only it were that easy.
- 3:24And when fatigue doesn't go away, it doesn't.
- 3:27It doesn't just affect your body, it starts to creep into
- 3:30your relationships and your social, your social life.
- 3:35So red flag #3 is a fatigue hijacks your social life.
- 3:39This one's really stinks. Fatigue can make you cancel
- 3:41plans, skip family events, or even leave halfway through
- 3:45something you were really looking forward to.
- 3:47You've been there before. I'll never forget leaving a
- 3:50friend's birthday party halfway through, Right, everybody,
- 3:53Everybody's laughing. They're eating cake.
- 3:55And there I was sitting there fighting to keep my eyes open.
- 3:59I slipped out early, went home, and I crashed on the couch.
- 4:02And then the guilt hit me just as hard as the fatigue.
- 4:05Now, I've heard from some of you that you've missed weddings,
- 4:08family dinners, or even coffee dates with friends because you
- 4:12couldn't push through the fatigue.
- 4:15And here's the thing, people see the tremors, they see the
- 4:19stiffness, but they don't see this.
- 4:21They don't see you at home curled up in bed while life goes
- 4:24on without you. And that's why this is such a
- 4:26dangerous red flag. It steals connection, and
- 4:29connection is what keeps us going.
- 4:33And hey, if this is sounding familiar, hit that like button
- 4:37so more people see it. And if you're new here, why
- 4:40don't you subscribe so you don't miss more real talk about
- 4:42Parkinson's? And now let's get to the next
- 4:46one. Because this one isn't about
- 4:47your body at all. This one is all about your
- 4:50brain. So the red flag #4IS fatigue
- 4:54that feels like brain fog. So fatigue doesn't just hit your
- 4:58muscles. Sometimes your mind goes first,
- 5:01you know, It's when focusing feels like climbing a mountain.
- 5:04Or even simple decisions feel very overwhelming.
- 5:07Someone in our community told me that they stood in front of the
- 5:10fridge for 10 minutes because they couldn't decide what to
- 5:13eat. I get it.
- 5:14I've sat in front of an e-mail draft knowing exactly what I
- 5:17want to say, but my brain just refuses to string the words
- 5:21together. And for some of you, it's
- 5:24forgetting mid conversation what you were about to say, or
- 5:27rereading the same paragraph of a book three times and still not
- 5:32absorbing it. Now that's not laziness, that's
- 5:35not silliness. That's a neurological fatigue,
- 5:38OK. And if it if that weren't
- 5:41enough, this last red flag shows us how sneaky fatigue can be
- 5:45because it starts messing with the one thing that we rely on to
- 5:49function and that's our medication routine.
- 5:51And you know how stickler I am about that.
- 5:54So this is 1 fatigue that affects your medication and this
- 5:58one doesn't get talked about enough.
- 6:00Fatigue can blur your memory, slow your focus, and suddenly
- 6:05your routine is off. I've had days where I was
- 6:08drained, I completely forgot to take my pills until hours later.
- 6:12And I know I'm not alone. One of you told me you realized
- 6:15you missed a dose when your tremor suddenly spiked.
- 6:18Well, I've been there. I know when I missed a dose.
- 6:20I get it. You might notice this if you
- 6:22find yourself staring at the pill bottle but not remembering
- 6:25if you've already taken it, or if the fatigue makes you late on
- 6:29a dose and you pay for it with symptoms the rest of the day.
- 6:33Now, this isn't just inconvenient, it's dangerous
- 6:35because staying inconsistent with your medication is one of
- 6:38the most important parts of managing Parkinson's meds on
- 6:42time, every time. So here's what I want to say.
- 6:48Fatigue isn't laziness, it's not weakness.
- 6:51It's just it's just being tired. It's real part of Parkinson's,
- 6:55and sometimes the hardest part is explaining it to others.
- 6:58People see tremors, they see stiffness, but they don't see
- 7:02the invisible exhaustion that can completely take you down.
- 7:05And that's why I wanted to make this podcast so you can point to
- 7:09these red flags and say, see, this is what I'm dealing with.
- 7:12This is about managing Parkinson's fatigue and sharing
- 7:16real life Parkinson's stories so nobody else feels alone in it.
- 7:20And if you made it this far, you've unlocked the price
- 7:22system. You ready?
- 7:23All right, here it is with Parkinson's.
- 7:27Fatigue doesn't knock politely. It barges in, steals a remote,
- 7:31and dares you to try to get up off the couch.
- 7:36I like that one. So now it's your turn.
- 7:38When has fatigue blindsided you? What's the one thing that helps
