It's like, yo, I'm about to serve you this badass peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's like, there's no such thing. It's just peanut butter and jelly. Nah, but I appreciate it, man. ⁓ humbled by it. But I'm happy to be here with y'all on the on the bald enough to say it podcast. Let's go. Barry: Yo, you're making moves out here in the Bonfos. I'm just trying to give you your credit, man. Shaun: Aw man. Yes, sir. Barry: Let's go. All right. So we are going to do something new with our first guest. We wanted to start a new segment that we can hopefully keep going as we continue to book and bring on guests. But it is called our bald takes questionnaire. So we're going to ask Josh on the spot. He's never heard these questions. We didn't prep them. We're just getting raw. Josh, look at him. He's already in the bald enough to say club, bro. Bringing it out. Shaun: that's what we like to see. Joshua Jay Nieto: I'm ready. Doll it, dial it, dial it, dial it. Barry: Alright, y'all. So we're gonna ask him six six questions, starting off just kinda low key, and we'll work to give him his freedom to tell us his bald take of the day. So first one, pretty simple. Tattoos, you got any? Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, I got a tattoo. I got one here. It's like an angel chick scripture. I got a tattoo of my mom's my mom is a breast cancer survivor, so I got her ribbon on me. And then I and then I have two like lions on each shoulder. The lions I regret. Everyone has those tattoos you regret, you know? Yeah. No regrats. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Barry: Okay. Nice. ⁓ man. That's awesome. Shaun: That is a fact. Barry: That was gonna be my next question. Do you have a favorite or any regrets? That was gonna be my next question. No regrets, right? No regurs, bro. Shaun: Hahaha Joshua Jay Nieto: So honestly though, dude, if I could go back, I probably would have no tattoos. Do y'all feel like that or no? I don't know. I just Barry: Okay, why's that? I like my tattoos. I mean I gave mine a lot of thought. Not to s not to say that you didn't, but I'm just saying I did. Yeah. I mean, bro, you live once. No, there you go, Fave. Nice. that's dope, man. That's taking back. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I I ⁓ some I did, some I didn't. Let's just put it that way. ⁓ this one I got this one. This is one of my favorites. It's that's Felix the Cat. Yeah, my uncle was Felix. I used to I used to ⁓ it was like w my favorite cartoon growing up. I didn't even know was like an old ass cartoon. ⁓ but ⁓ yeah, I like Felix and and I'm a c I'm a comedian, so if the crowd ain't laughing, I just look down at my arm and he's there laughing at me, so yeah. Barry: ⁓ it is, bro. Classic. There you go, bro. It's gotta come from somewhere. I mean, take what you can get. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Have you ever thought of getting the bald, ⁓ like like hairline? Barry: Bro, I have actually really thought about it, but I'm just that's permanent, man. You got a good edge up, yeah. It's natural line, man. Shaun: No. Joshua Jay Nieto: Nah, I see I I gotta can you see? I got a good I got a good hit lineup. But but I got the Ginobli going on back here. So I gotta keep it short, you know what I mean, to look good, to keep it good. So Shaun: Yeah, you got a good edge. Hahaha Barry: Bro, that's what me and my my oldest were literally talking about earlier. She or no, it's my youngest. She was like, You think it'll ever grow your hair? And I was like, Nah, man. It th if you try and hold on to it, that's what makes you look older. It's just sometimes you just we talked about it the other day. Father father time, mother nature, they win, bro. They're undefeated. So Bro, appreciate you. Pour it out, pour a little out for They didn't do it this year. They didn't do it this year. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm-hmm. Let it go. Frozen. Shaun: Undefeated, Joshua Jay Nieto: I'm drinking water out of this green cup in honor of your Celtics. Hopefully it'll get. But hey, one thing I noticed about the micro ⁓ thing is like black people look better with it. Like black people can get away with it a little more than like Hispanics and white people. Cause like I'm afraid that if I did that little micro thing to make me look like I have more hair, like if they don't do a good job, like people will. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Bro, that's what scares me. It would look horrible. What did he do? Joshua Jay Nieto: People will look at people will like walk around looking at your head like, ⁓ shit You know? Shaun: Let's be honest, black people look better with everything. It doesn't matter what it is. We make it look better. We do it better. That's the way it is. Yeah, we can do it all. Fade, bald, everything. Barry: I mean bro, you ain't wrong. You ain't wrong. I mean All of that. All of that. Joshua Jay Nieto: That's true. Corn rolls, braids, afros. Black people own the hair industry, bro. Well, black women don't even have real hair, so I mean, you know? Barry: The I mean Shaun: are we about to have some people coming up in the comments about that one? Barry: Well Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I they don't you know? One out of ten do nine out of ten don't. Shaun: I mean, you gotta have the lace fronts, man. You gotta have the lace fronts, make it look good, have the baby edges lay it down right there. Barry: Get that good hair, bro. Get that good hair. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Bro, I I wish I was a black woman so I could just wear whatever hair I wanted. You know what I mean? I wish I could it if I worked at you know if I worked at a ⁓ a sporting goods store and customers walked in one day to the next and saw me with different, you know, hairstyles and wigs, they'd be like, What's up with this fool? You know what I mean? ⁓ a black woman just like ,oh man, she look look she's rocking it. You go, girl. ⁓ Barry: They make it look good. They do make it look good. Shaun: Switch it in and out. Barry: Like Shaun said. Shaun: Mm-hmm. I'll be blonde one day, like the next day. Barry: Real. They do it. Like he said, they can pull it off, man. Black people pull it off. No. Bro, I mean, I'm not trying to like pity me, but white people we make a lot of shit look stupid. So, you know, it's Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, Hispanic dude, they're gonna look and be like, Bro, who who'd you kill, dog? Yeah, you white people especially, y'all wear wigs and shit, y'all are serial killers. Shaun: Hehehehehe Barry: It it can be for sure. If for sure. Okay, speaking of white people shit, and this is our second question. And I I've I will probably give this to white people, although I ⁓ I don't even want to give any bias. Pineapple on pizza, Josh. Yay or nay? Shaun: some domer type stuff. All right, everybody, welcome back to episode number three of the Bald Enough to Say It podcast. We're going back to back to back right now. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm. Yeah, I dig it. It's gotta be with it's gotta be with ⁓ the Canadian bacon though. It some people eat it with pepperoni and and that's just a little Shaun: You know us by now. If you are new here, my name is Shaun I am one of the co-hosts. We also have our other co-host here. Barry: Okay. I can't I can't. I just can't do the I can't do it, man. But like I said, I feel like that is some white people's shit. Not to say that yeah, I mean we we all take a little bit. Yeah. A little bit of white. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: What it do bru? Mr. Barry. How's it going y'all? Shaun: Yes, sir. And then we've got our incredible producer as well. Joshua Jay Nieto: I I mean I'm a I'm a I'm I I live in New Braunfels so Shaun: New Braunfels. Joshua Jay Nieto: That that's what did it to me. Yeah. Jen: Jen, how's it going? Shaun: Yeah. What's up everybody? It is Monday. How was your weekend? What did you all do? What was fun? What happened? Who wants to go first? Barry: But okay, all right, see. Nothing too crazy, nothing too crazy. ⁓ this one might go a little off the rails, but that might be in a good good way. Have you ever been in the back of a cop car? And if so, why? I'll go. Shaun: Alright Barry, you're up first. Joshua Jay Nieto: No, I've never been arrested, never been ⁓ never been booked. So I've never had the opportunity, man. Maybe one day it'll happen. If I go to jail, I wanna d I wanted to be for something I stood up for. You know what mean? Like I wanna Yeah, yeah. I don't wanna go to jail for DWI or nothing like that. I wanna like punch somebody for a good reason, then take me or I don't know. Yeah. Right. Jen: Yeah. Barry: in with her nose goes. Let's see Friday. I mean, we're going to talk about the World Cup, but I watched the USA game on Friday night and that was a really fun game to watch. So we'll break that down. But that's kind of how I started the weekend. I watched a lot of World Cup, to be honest, really like almost every game every day, at least for a good chunk of it. So but we then excuse me. We also watched this documentary on Netflix called Shaun: Nose goes. Barry: There you go. Shaun: Like that was Barry: ⁓ right. Not just for being a dumbass, being drunk or something. Yeah. Shaun: There you go. Yeah Barry: Or take a shot, yeah. Standing up for somebody, something like I get that. That's that's dope. I can, I could get behind that. Joshua Jay Nieto: I don't know why or or when, but but when I go to jail it's gonna be for some badass shit. Shaun: be the hero. Barry: Maternal Instinct. Y'all, if you have not checked it out, listeners, people in the chat, if you have not checked it out, do so. It's it's crazy. Like, I don't even know how to describe it. It's just next level crazy. ⁓ I mean, make it worth it. Don't go there for nothing. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Yeah, I don't wanna get pulled over for smoking weed or like you know, having a little Barry: Yeah, I feel like can you do that nowadays? Like really, what do you think? I mean, maybe here in New Braunfels possibly. Really. Joshua Jay Nieto: yeah, some I have f I have friends that have been pulled over ⁓ in ⁓ in New Braunfels that have gone to jail for just like having a joint. No, just having a joint. It was a joint. And he was a it was one of my black friends, so Shaun: Is this something that I need to like throw into the queue? Like I need to be prepared to watch it? Barry: ⁓ yeah. I mean, if you, you want to watch some craziness, watch it. Like I don't even want to give you any kind of, it's just like, it's like beyond. don't even know. I think Becca said she was reading like one of her, people that she follows on Facebook or some social. And he was like, it's literally like, if you took all the craziness from like individual podcasts or like documentaries and put it into one, this had it all, bro. It had everything. Well now is that that or is that some stereotyping racially? Mm, see? That's what I'm saying. Mm mm, mm mm. Better watch it, bro. They they out here. They out here. Y'all be careful. Shaun: Okay. mean, may, in New Braunfels, that makes sense. Yeah. You're definitely going to jail if you're black and New Braunfels with a joint. Joshua Jay Nieto: It's it's all making sense. Yeah. But what about y'all? Have y'all been to jail? Barry: I'm on the same ride, road as you, man. No no rides in the back of the cop car, luckily. Knock on what I've Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: What about you, Shaun? Shaun: Nah, keep it clean, man. Gotta keep it clean. I wouldn't do well in jail. I don't... Barry: Crazy crazy level like next level crazy Joshua Jay Nieto: That's cool. Shaun: and its Maternal Instinct? Barry: Maternal Instinct dude Netflix and it's only ⁓ it's just a it's like an hour and 30 minutes we watched this sunday morning Joshua Jay Nieto: Shit. Out of us three, I think I'm the I'm the least to make it. Y'all y'all would y'all would totally make it in jail. Shaun, you would just be the the the black dude that sits in the corner and has knowledge. Barry: Too pretty. He's too pretty to be there, bro. Shaun: Yeah, I'm like Tom from the Boondocks. I don't want to go to jail. Barry: Ha ha. Shaun: No tangent, Maternal points toward the mother side. Why do women love murder mystery so much? Like I feel like that is a thing that women love to do is watch murder mysteries. Like do we need to like watch our back? Yes. What is going on there? Barry: Mm-hmm. Shaun: I mean, I would be, but then I'm have to hurt some people too. Barry: Giving out all the Joshua Jay Nieto: You'd be doing some of your trainings there in jail. Barry: It's a good question. It's very valid. Shaun: There we go. I'm I'm a be on the straight and narrow at that point. Barry: Professional development in jail coming soon from Shaun. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Be like, Hey, when you you're like when we get out of here, I'm gonna have you running the RBF. Barry: Jen, as our resident woman, what's the opinion? Jen: Listen, I couldn't really tell you. I don't know. I think they're fascinating. And also women always gotta stay on the lookout. So it's like study material. Like what do I gotta look out for that's out there because people be crazy. So let me prepare. It's like study material. So I'm always ready. Probably. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Barry: Keep it clean, bro. Keep it clean. Shaun: ⁓ Barry: Alright, all right. So now we're gonna get a little maybe a little more out there. Not too out there though. ⁓ your big l you read Josh movies? Got any like particulars? Shaun: Hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: ⁓ I don't honestly, man, I'm not I just I'm a sports guy. Like I watch sports and I don't read much anymore. If I read it's gonna be like ⁓ my daily devotional, my my my men's, ⁓ my little ⁓ daily Bible verse. ⁓ but as far as like reading books and stuff, I I don't get into it as much as I I used to. I do spend I do spend like if I'm bored and chilling. Shaun: So this is like the man versus bear argument if you would be like alone in the woods. See that. I don't know. I'm not a female, so I don't care. A man. Why would I want to be alone in the woods with a bear? Jen: If you were alone in the woods, would you pick a man or a bear? Okay. Shaun: But I get it. Jen: I'm just saying for a lot of women, the answer is different. Barry: because you know what a bear is going to do. You know who a bear is, you know what they're going to do. Right on. Jen: Exactly. Shaun: I mean. Barry: people are conniving and will trick you and take advantage of you. I get that. Joshua Jay Nieto: I'm watching like ⁓ reels like on Instagram or TikTok. I'm watching s I'm watching stand up comedy or I'm watching funny stuff. Like I I love that dopamine hit. Barry: Okay. Shaun: I feel like I have a better chance of overpowering a man than I do a bear. Jen: Do crazy things. Barry: I mean, that's a fact. Jen: True. A hundred percent. You do. Barry: Okay. I well open this up in a little different. I was gonna say like a literary or movie piece that you that you feel like a lot of people are about but you just don't get it. We can open it up. Any Okay, so any movies you're like, man, people say that's like a classic, like favorite of all time. You hear it a lot, but you're just like, Man, I just I can't I don't get it. I don't understand why. Shaun: Yeah. Yeah, so I would want to be with the bear Barry: See, Becca says she watches them for the other reason, it's to learn how to do things if she needed to do things in certain instances. Joshua Jay Nieto: I mean I watch movies. I watch movies. Jen: If she needed to murder someone? Shaun: See, I think it leans in that direction like 80-20. I feel like that's probably the reason why most women watch it. Jen: That's that's so good. Barry: So I counteracted by watching to learn what could happen to No, I'm joking. This is my... I really don't... No, I could say that. I sporadically watch the murder docs, but it's hit or miss, honestly. Jen: to you. So this is your study material as she's watching it, taking notes, like hm. Shaun: You Joshua Jay Nieto: ⁓ I don't know man. I th like you you're basically wanting me to hit you with like a o a overrated movie. Barry: Yeah, something like that. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm. Shaun: Okay. All right, well I'm about to check out. Barry: I watched some ones are like the worst exes ever. Those are pretty crazy. I watched some of those too lately. There's some crazy people. Again, it's just like, it shows you how crazy people can be, which like, yo, it's a scary world, bro. It's a scary world out there. So I don't know, man. Like I find it interesting, but also at the same time, I don't try and judge people cause I don't know what put them into that situation, you know? Joshua Jay Nieto: I don't know, man. I don't know. I think I think a lot of the new movies coming out are like movies these days are not as good as movies, say like early two thousands, nineties. Like I feel like the storylines in movies back then were way better than the storylines that you're seeing now in the movies. Like a lot of Yeah, exactly. Jen: I haven't seen that one yet, but I've seen stuff for it. Shaun: This is why dating's not worth it in 2026. Jen: Yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: think it's a lot of the CGI, right? Like they're trying to make that the the big part of the movie versus like you're saying, like the storytelling aspect of it. The dopamine. They trying to hit you with that dopamine, get you hooked. Shaun: you Joshua Jay Nieto: The dopamine. They're trying to hit people with the dopamine. They they they they're they're forgetting about the the story. And like you'll see a lot of Shaun: Fair. Yeah. Barry: I'd like to say I wouldn't do anything crazy, but bro, you never been pushed there, so you can't really say one way or the other how you would handle those situations. I don't think I'm that crazy, I mean, I got a little crazy in me. I think we all do. We we're intelligent people. We need we wanna see a good story. I feel you, man. Jen: Yeah. Shaun: some of the smart tools from people. Joshua Jay Nieto: What do you think, Shaun? Don't you feel that? I feel like a lot of movies are incomplete. Like a lot of movies you are like, damn, that movie had potential and and it they just the ending's off or usually something goes astray. Shaun: That's true. Ew. Jen: Might get there. Shaun: We all do. I mean, if your back is against the wall, like there's a lot of things that you might do that you normally wouldn't do to get yourself out of that position. Yeah. It's funny that you say that I actually had a friend that was telling me about a movie like a week or two ago. That's the exact thing. What was it? No, it was in the background. I've heard that one's good, too. Really? Oh, man. Barry: Consider it right? I mean it takes a lot of choices to get there I would think but you never know Joshua Jay Nieto: Can I tell you, can I guess it? The the back room. ⁓ it's terrible. I'm not gonna say why. I just think it's terrible. I th I th I ⁓ I thought it was great. 30 minutes in. At minute 35, 40, I was like, dude, get me out of here. It it ha maybe some people might like it. I thought it was I Shaun: Man. All right, Jen, what about you? How was your weekend? I mean, you're wearing the Man U shirt, so I'm assuming World Cup 2 probably is not. Barry: ⁓ I wanna see that. I've heard it's really good. Really? See, there you go. There's one. I've heard it's really good. Really? Jen: It was good. It was busy. Yeah. Yeah, we did watch a lot of World Cup. started with the Mexico ⁓ Africa game and No? That was the very first one. It's kickoff one. Come on. ⁓ but yeah, started with that one. ⁓ ⁓ was actually just in there watching highlights of the one that was earlier today. ⁓ ⁓ ⁓ can't remember who Shaun: Yeah. Barry: I did not catch that one. Yeah, I didn't catch it. Shaun: you Barry: No, I've heard a lot of good things about that and the ⁓ obsession one. Joshua Jay Nieto: I need to see that. my girl's been wanting to see that. Shaun: I don't even think I've heard about that one. Barry: ⁓ that one's more of a psychological thriller obsession. I don't really know what Jen: So we didn't actually watch that one, but yes, lots of World Cup watching, lots of house hunting. ⁓ that's basically it. Joshua Jay Nieto: About obsession. Backroom. Nah, it's a it's a it's basically ⁓ without giving it away, it's about a dude who discovers like a seek like a like a not I'm not gonna say a secret room. It's it's like he touches the wall and like he he like goes through like into this like other I'm gonna say this other world, but it's just like a it's just like an office space, but it's like stuff goes on in there. And it it's almost like ⁓ Barry: No no no no back room. Shaun: Exactly. Nice. How'd go? Do you want to talk about that on here? Like, did you find anything that you like? I think that's cool. Nice. We'll leave it at that. leave it at that. Man. Well, yeah, my weekend was pretty chill. You guys are going to have to catch me up on the World Cup because I did not get to watch much. I watched a little bit, but not much at all. We're definitely going to talk about the finals. I have some... Jen: I don't know. ⁓ yeah, we found some options, but Yeah. We'll leave it at that. Joshua Jay Nieto: How do you call it like a sci-fi or like a fi ⁓ fiction movie? And that's where I'm not I'm not huge into movies that you know can't actually happen. Like I'm not a Marvel guy. A lot of people that's okay, you want me to talk about movies that are overrated? Marvel. I I'm not a Marvel guy. I'm not I'm not into the whole like I see so how is Spider-Man getting thrown against cars and falling off of stuff and and he's just he's just Peter Parker. Like Barry: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. Shaun: some big time thoughts on the finals that happened. ⁓ I also got to spend some time with some dear friends and my nieces got to hang out with them and play some games and have fun. And like, that's always fun because I don't get to see them very often. So getting to hang out and do stuff like that is always good. And like I said, watch a little bit of World Cup with them too. So really cool weekend, really nice, chill. Got my carpets clean because the puppy was sick. So. ⁓ Yeah. Barry: Hmm. ⁓ there you go. All right, here we go. There we go. Shaun: Come on, dog. Come on, dog. Jen: ⁓ Yay. Shaun: It's reimagining our childhood though, We grew up with these superheroes, now we get to see it come to cinematic life? Joshua Jay Nieto: No, man. I'm all about I'm I'm all about I'm all I'm all about the hit points. I'm all about the damage people can take. You know? Barry: Yeah. Hmm. He's he wants to see the the life force drain, bro. When you get hit, you don't keep a hundred percent. Shaun: Okay. Jen: How is he? How's Ace doing? Good. Shaun: That's a whole other story. He's better. He's better now. Yeah. Like the vet, gosh, three and a half hours sitting in an office is not fun, getting everything checked out, he's good now. So his food, his medicine, he should be all right. And my carpets are clean. That's the most important part. He's a big carpenter. Yes. All right. Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. If someone stabs Spider-Man, Spider-Man should die. You know what I mean? If Spider-Man gets hit, if Spider-Man gets hit by a big ass rock, Spider-Man needs to be cr just like a spider, he needs to be crushed. So I I I I I I mentally tune out when shit can't be like real. That's why I love Batman. I love like the Dark Knight. Barry: ⁓ Shaun: I you. Barry: Hmm. Jen: Mm. Barry: Mm. He's not down for the superheroes, y'all. Jen: Good. And the carpets are clean. ⁓ that's rough. Yeah. Yeah. Barry: That's good news. That's good. Glad to hear that. Eeeh, that's not a good one. Not a good side of it. Yeah, okay. Shaun: Gotcha. Barry: I'm the opposite, bro. I think Batman is one of the most overrated superheroes ever. He's a normal ass dude, bro. Just got money and gadgets and I mean I guess that makes it more real. I ⁓ you true, you ain't wrong. But dang, that's a big statement, bro. Shaun: Well, catch me up. What happened with the World Cup? What were some of the highlights or what really popped off? Joshua Jay Nieto: No no Shaun: Yeah, it's just a normal dude that trains in a cave. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: But at least it could happen. Yeah. Barry: I think like Jen mentioned, yeah, go ahead Jen. Jen: Well the first Shaun: Batman is the problem with America right now. Just saying. Jen: I was just gonna say the first game was kind of a big showdown because ⁓ the last time they played each other was I can't remember the year, but they had a really South Africa scored on Mexico and it was like this crazy goal. so it was interesting, it was very anticipated, highly anticipated for this game. But South Africa did lose for those of you who haven't seen it. Spoiler alert, guess should have said that first. Joshua Jay Nieto: Dude, okay, let me ask you this. Do you think do you think Batman from the Dark Knight, right? Christian Bale. Barry: I mean I do like that franchise. I'll give you that. That is really probably one of the better ones. Shaun: Yeah. Okay. That's a fantastic series. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: But but do you think he could save New York right now, the way it's going? Shaun: I don't think so. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I think those I think those Knicks fans would whoop Batman's ass. Barry: They might, bro. Th you better watch out. Don't wear a spur shirt. I mean, obviously. Shaun: Spoiler alert, crumbs first. Joshua Jay Nieto: I know, bro. Like imagine Batman wears a Spurs jersey and walks down Madison Square Garden. You think he's gonna come out alive? Hell no, he's not making it. Shaun: Right? Jen: Yikes. ⁓ Barry: Spoiler alerts are coming y'all we talking about all of them. So if you haven't watched when you want to sorry about you. I Mean it's this we're talking three days ago, so He ain't making it up, bro. No. He ain't. No. That's but that's one of the places, bro. And I was talking to somebody about this. That is one of the places, New York and Philly, that I would never wear an away shirt, jersey. Like you I just I know that environment. I know those kind of people, and they don't give you know what, two shits. But I'm not saying that that's made it what happened, right? Don't like don't misunderstand that that shit's disgusting. Shaun: It's sports, it's already happened, so you're not up to date, that's on you. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. All right. No, nah. Jen: Yeah, you've probably seen it by now. Barry: Hopefully Well big one was can Canada drawn with Bosnia like they ended up in a tie that was kind of a big For the group there and that's group B Qatar got their first ever point in the World Cup They had a draw with Switzerland which was there's been a lot of draws which is used pretty highly unusual usually have your top tier teams they go out wreck shop and Shaun: Yeah. you Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Barry: Sports is sports, like it should stop there, but Joshua Jay Nieto: No, I I think I think they're on top when it comes to that. Like the w like the most let's just say the most violent fans right now, the the Knicks fans at are take are taking it. I used to think it was like Oakland Raider fans or Vegas Raiders. I think they were more violent as Oakland Raiders. But ⁓ like Oakland Raiders, I would say ⁓ San Francisco Forty Niner fans, ⁓ Philadelphia Eagle fans, but I yeah. Shaun: ⁓ Jen: Yeah. Barry: ⁓ I mean, they took it this year for sure. All your smaller countries who aren't really World Cup teams or just trying to get what they can. But there's been quite a few of those. A big one was Brazil and Morocco. Brazil is supposed to be top dog and they were one one draw with Morocco. So there's and then the big one was I was a today Spain zero zero draw with Cap of Verde super small nation. Shaun: you Yeah. Jen: Yeah. Barry: Back in the day probably, yeah, when they were the Oakland Raiders. Shaun: Yeah, for sure. Mm-hmm. Really? Barry: That's why I like, Philly fans don't care, bro. That's no any any sport in Philly. Yes. ⁓ yes. Sure. I would not no, I would not wear, I'm telling you, even if I was going to a Celtics game, I would just wear like a black t-shirt, bro. I'm not gonna wear because you're gonna get heckled the whole time. It would not be fun. Shaun: other things are crazy. Joshua Jay Nieto: Any sport you think? Si even seventy sixers? Okay. 'Cause I th but but Shaun: Yeah. ⁓ absolutely. They are quick to be the fixers. Barry: Defending the World Cup champs or no not the defending that's Argentina, but Spain has been a Like a world soccer football power for a long long time. So But highly disappointing for them to start off the group stage like that not the end of the world because I was just watching Who was it Saudi Arabia and Uruguay they ended in a draw and they're all in the same So literally all four teams have one point in that group right now Joshua Jay Nieto: Okay. I think Knicks fans take it though, right? ⁓ from what you've seen lately. I mean, just beating just beating up people and and ripping their shit just because of w ⁓ 'cause of the team they're supporting is crazy. Shaun: me. Right. Man. Jen: Yeah. Barry: I yeah, I would I would agree for sure. No, just yeah, no. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. Yeah, it's too far, bro. Too far. Shaun: Right now, it's all good. Yeah. you Joshua Jay Nieto: And and l hey, last night they last night they ⁓ they were damaging cars, bro. They were like ⁓ you know, damaging them like windshields and ⁓ hitting them with all kinds of heavy objects. Like they're messing up New York. After winning. Shaun: Okay. Barry: So, but yeah, I mean, a lot of draws in Japan and the Netherlands drew two, two. I feel like the Netherlands were a little supposed to walk away with that win, but that was a really good game to watch. Really good fun game to watch. Some dominating scores. mentioned USA dominated there for one largest ever. I know it ties the largest victory for the US team ever in World Cup history. Bro. I was gonna say either way they're probably gonna do that. So I mean I guess it's a good thing that they won. Joshua Jay Nieto: D well well, d I was gonna say, do you think that there's like 'cause you know, there's a big conspiracy that there's a script. You know, that this is all scripted, that you know, so like a hundred percent, but do you think that if it is scripted, do you think they're even leaning towards like, ⁓ let's just let the Knicks win because man, if the Knicks lose, imagine what's gonna happen in New York City. You know? Barry: Think I hear that every year. Shaun: Ayyyy Barry: scored the most goals ever with four or so three goal differential four to one win. Largest So. Yeah, it was a good it was a fun one, man. Yeah. Yeah. And in stoppage time, like the 94th and 95th minute, they scored the fourth goal. First, first goal was a known goal. ⁓ If there is a script, that does make sense in the logic for sure. I just don't know. Jen: Which at the last second too to go up for was wild. Like quite literally one of those weird buzzer moments where like, no way they're gonna score right now and then just did. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Shaun: Nice. Well, didn't the script say that the Spurs were supposed to win this year? Was it the Spurs or was it... I see it. was one of them. Joshua Jay Nieto: I don't know, but I th there's all everybody okay, so you know, like, especially with social media, people are gonna post anything to get the views, to get the shares, to get the likes, whatever. And I've seen so many people okay, the the damn dog, right? The c the the corgi. So there people are posting all kinds of like predictive predictive ⁓ prediction stuff. And people are also posting, ⁓ I know the script. Game one's gonna be this, game two's gonna be this. And the people that have got it right so far are like Barry: Scripts, bro. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. For sure. For sure. Shaun: anything Barry: Then they had two really good goals, one almost they almost had an extra another goal before half, but it got called back the second. The original second goal got called back and, you know, he was like offsides by like that much. But same dude went back and scored and then they scored one more again before halftime. So they were three hour half. They let they they gave away one in the second half, but then they like Jen said at end of the game, put it up, put it in for four one. I think it was one of the subs that came into. So they're looking good, man. ⁓ the the Corgi, bro. Yeah, I've seen that one. Joshua Jay Nieto: Their stuff is getting pushed heavily in the algorithm because bec because they got it right. You know what I mean? So people are thinking so people are th or or they just made it like yesterday and they're like, ⁓ game one was gonna you know what mean? Like they're cheating. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Hmm. Interesting. Yeah. Concerned I'll put how yeah, we came out. That was like the best outcome. I think they could have hoped for coming into the group Because who is it against Paraguay, right? Shaun: Hey, represent. Yeah, that's what's going to help the sports betting though. Like if they see that somebody's predicted every game, right? They're like, all right, well, I'm gonna go ahead and bet based off of what they say. Yeah. I'm gonna get it out there. Barry: I mean, I don't know, bro. Jen: Mm-hmm. Barry: well, and all these what is the Kalshi and all those different ones, the probability betting and all that shit? Jen: Mm-hmm. Yeah, they have a decent team this year. Joshua Jay Nieto: There there there was a there was a guy that bet like almost four G's on the Spurs and he they show he showed like he was recording the game and he had his bet slip right underneath and he's like he's going bananas like 'cause in the first half of last night's game and he's like woo like he's like dude, he's he's on fire and then you know, then we know what happened and so imagine that, bro. Jen: Yeah. Barry: Yeah, Paraguay is a pretty good team, so to go out and do that. Jen: Well, that's something different too this year that they haven't done in the past is there's more teams in the finals than previous years. So you're getting a lot of teams that normally wouldn't necessarily be there and be participating, which is really cool. But it also, I think seems to be kind of mixing it up a bit with all of the like draws and stuff ⁓ that they've been having, but they have like really small countries and things that are able to be here because they've moved it up to like 48. Barry: ⁓ God, yeah. We'll get to that in a minute. Shaun: More. Barry: Yeah. Gw Bro, I would that would hurt. Especially if you thought you was gonna walk away big. Yeah, that would really hurt. I mean you're a s you Spurs fan, that's gonna hurt. But yeah, if you bet an an yeah, that would be brutal. Mm-hmm. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Shaun: Bye Joshua Jay Nieto: A hundred percent, man. Jen: or something like that, teams? Correct me if I'm wrong? Yeah. Yeah. Barry: All right. Last one. And this one's kinda just open. What's your bald enough take? Something you're bald enough to say that you think nobody else wants to. I mean you kinda went there with the marvel, but we'll open it up to anything else. Yeah. Yeah. 48. You got it. Yeah. Nope. You nailed it. So 32 will come out of that top two teams from each group and then the best eight third place teams will make it. But. Shaun: Okay. Joshua Jay Nieto: ⁓ Shaun: So is the group stage purely for seating for the next round? Okay. Joshua Jay Nieto: I'll say it again, Marvel sucks. No Barry: M-hm for the knockout round. Yep. So depending on goal differential, so you get three points for a victory, one point for a tie, zero points for a loss. And then if it just ties based on winning and losing record, then it goes to goal differential. So there's an incentive to run up the score to Shaun: God, Lee, man. Sucks is crazy. Jen: Mm-hmm. Yeah, they just kind of... Shaun: And then those are single elim? Joshua Jay Nieto: All right. Nah my my my my bald enough take right now in in in my life that no one else is thinking or saying is that the Spurs are gonna win it all. Spurs are gonna win game five. They're we're coming home on Saturday night. We're gonna win game six in New York. It's gonna be a big win. The city's gonna go bananas. And then we're gonna take game seven next Friday, June nineteenth. Barry: Love it. Jen: Mm-hmm like Germany. What did they get like seven? Seven to one, but that's poor who did they yes, Curaçao Poor little little country Shaun: which we saw that yesterday. Barry: Germany bro they went out and embarrassed someone who they bears Curaçao bro they embarrassed them seven of one yeah and then Sweden did the same thing to Tanzania five one so Shaun: Yeah, that was the game that actually got the or the match that actually got the most... Barry: Bro, they'll go honking for twenty four hours if y'all do that, bro. I mean, you ain't wrong. Three three to one, bro, but it's been done. I mean, it's been done. Joshua Jay Nieto: Everybody's counting us out. The guys on PTI, Tony. Yeah. It's been done. And and we we honestly, we don't have the experience. Like we look like an inexperienced team with the bonehead plays we've made in games two and four. But something tells me these guys are gonna just they're gonna stop they're gonna cut out those bonehead mistakes and they're gonna they're gonna make the adjustments and we're gonna we're gonna do it one game at a time. Jen: Yeah. Rack them up when you can at this point. Shaun: Hey, yeah, might as well get the better seed that way. Next round, you can get a lower seed that you plan. Barry: Gotta take what you can get, man. It matters now. Because the better you seeding you get, the more likely you are to go further. Shaun: Mm-hmm Barry: So, but a big, big story was Scotland got to win one win over Haiti. First win and World Cup since 1990. Okay. Joshua Jay Nieto: The only reason we won't win, in my opinion, is fatigue. I Wemby looked tired last night. I don't know if these guys can hold it up. And I but that's my that's my bald take is that as a Spurs fan, so being a Jackal, bro, I've spent so much time and effort going to each game, you know, yelling, screaming. As a Jackal, we don't get to sit down. And it's not like, we don't get to, it's just what we do. We don't ⁓ Shaun: Shout out to Scotland. Barry: 36 years, so congrats to Scotland. ⁓ Ivory Coast upset Ecuador 1-0 last second, like last minute victory too. Like there's been a lot of good games, man. It's been really good to watch fun stuff. Okay. Jen: Yeah, shout out to Scotland. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Barry: Mm. Jen: Yeah. Barry: I'm thinking that's really the big ones. Like I say, but yeah, a lot of draws. Shaun: That's what she said. Jen: Have you guys seen all of the videos of the Japanese fans that are here in Texas? Yeah, they're so funny. Barry: No, y'all don't choose to, bro. You don't want to. Hell yeah. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, we don't sit down. We stand up the entire game. We do sit down during like T V timeouts and stuff. You know, we rest our legs for a minute or two. But other than that, we're on our feet the whole game, cheering the whole game, getting crazy the whole game. And ⁓ it's just those those nights coming back and forth from New Bronfels to San Antonio, you know, ⁓ meeting Wemby, doing all the the extracurricular stuff that we got to do. They they paid for us to go to the ⁓ the cup game in Vegas. ⁓ Shaun: Mm. Barry: Dude, they were intense, bro. Shaun: Yeah. Can we also talk about the politeness of the Japanese fans too and the cleanliness like man like them just going around bringing their own but who brings your own bags to clean up the stadium but bringing their own bags cleaning up the stadium? Right? Barry: Okay. Yeah. Jen: Literally. Mm-hmm. Yeah. to clean it up. Barry: People with proper manners, bro. Proper manners. I do want to go to Japan. I really have heard a lot of good things about the culture. Jen: Yeah, that's why you go to Japan and they're letting like seven year olds get on the subway by themselves. Like, yeah. Yeah, it's amazing. ⁓ 100%. Shaun: Exactly. That is a bucket list item for me. Like I say that all of the time, but Japan is an absolute bucket list item. have to go at some point. Barry: Dude, that's dope. I didn't know that. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, so there's been so much cool shit that's happened. And I'm just I'm I'm I'm thankful. I'm blessed. I just got this energy, this, this, this delusion, whatever you want to call it, that I'm like, yo, fandom, where I'm like, we're not out till we're out. And I and I wish I could talk to them, bro. Cause I am cause what I here's what I would tell them. Y'all wanna hear what I tell them? If I'm Jen: Yep. Yeah. Barry: For sure. I definitely want to check out and not just like Tokyo or the big cities. I want to go out in some of the rural areas and check out like for real Japan. I don't know how much we'd be received, but Fandom, bro. It's fandom. Yeah. Jen: Mm-hmm. Shaun: Yeah. I want to go on the train and like, just kind of take the mountainside and like see everything. I mean. That's on my pod trip. We can go, we can record over there. Yes. Jen: Yeah. Shaun: you Barry: Mean bro, you ride or die with him. That's the w that's the way to be as a fan, bro. Jen: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Nah, I'd be a dope trip. Maybe we should do it on the pod, bro. Let's go. Let's go. make the trip. I don't know if I could afford any trips right now. Let's be honest, though. That give ⁓ that energy, man. Jen: Say less. Say less. Shaun: Tell them, tell them right now. They're gonna watch this. Yeah. Barry: Say it bro. This is this is your mountaintop. Tell ⁓ bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: I'm in the if if I'm in the locker room with the guys after let's just say this morning or after game five, preferably this morning, let them let them sleep on it. Yeah, let it simmer. But I'm just telling him, look, guys, Fox, everybody, Wemby. I'm even talking to Coach at this point. Mitch, we messed up. We messed up. It's over. What's done is done. What are we gonna do now? Jen: Ha ha ha. Shaun: the future though we're gonna make it happen exactly yeah so remember like subscribe follow merch is in the description go and cop some merch support us so we can go and give you all the visuals of nice all right well cool World Cup sounds like it is on and popping we do have a very special treat for you guys as well ⁓ Barry and I Barry: That's why we're doing this podcast. Are we trying to get a trip? No, we're just trying to have fun. But hey, if we can get it out of it, let's do it for real. Jen: Yeah, keep these listeners going so we can... Barry: I mean you gotta you take it in, let it simmer, right? Okay. For real. Yes. Joshua Jay Nieto: What do y'all want to do? We've worked all this, we've worked so hard all season. Nobody said we were gonna beat the Trailblazers after they beat us in game one. We beat them. Everybody counted us out against the Wolves. We beat them. Nobody thought we were gonna get past the former champs OKC. We beat them. People didn't even think we're gonna make the playoffs. They thought we were gonna be maybe a seven, eight seed. We're gonna creep in and look at us. We got the second seed. Now here we are in the finals, and y'all wanna fold? Or are we gonna buckle up, get together? Shaun: had the privilege and pleasure of having an interview with a good friend of his and a local all-star comedian, former teacher. And he is also a Jackal for the San Antonio Spurs. So we are going to show you that footage here so you can learn a little bit more about him. There are some really good things that we have in here, so stick around and we'll be back. Joshua Jay Nieto: And take this shit one game at a time. Let's go. So that's what we're doing. One game at a time. And guess what? We ain't playing these people in New York acting like you're hooligans. We ain't playing the Knicks fans that are even acting right. We're not, it's not the Spurs against the Knicks fans. It's the Spurs versus the Knicks. So are we gonna put together four quarters of basketball game by game and take what's ours? Barry: I love it. Let's go, bro. Let's go. I love it. That's all you can do, bro. Shaun: up man let's go hit the gym right now Barry: I like it. Hell yeah. Right? Assistant coach, bro. Shaun: Is that your pitch to get onto the coaching staff? You're going to be on that second row. Joshua Jay Nieto: I'm try. Dude, I would love to. You know why as a fan, Spurs fan? I don't think we challenged enough. We don't, I think, I I think last night we we we left the game with our challenge. Or we won because they called the the Wemby's arm. But we had we had a challenge in the in the bag, and I think there was I counted at least two ⁓ occasions where we could have used it. Barry: ⁓ yeah, the offensive they rev yeah, they reversed that one. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: But okay, so one thing I didn't understand was the backcourt. Did they call the t did they say they got a timeout before Alvarado went back court on that one? I couldn't hear where I was at. I was at a bar so I couldn't hear the audio. Joshua Jay Nieto: There was there was something like that, a timeout or something. I well, the audio was saying that you know how the most games they have a ⁓ former ref on you know, on the ⁓ broadcast and they said that you gotta have the ball and your whole body across before they can call it backcourt. So it it they're saying it wasn't. Shaun: It was a, I think. Barry: Mm. Yeah, on the st on the the analyst staff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But he did, bro. He st he stepped I don't know are you saying dribble across or like cross just physically? Shaun: The ball never crossed. He did, but the ball never crossed. Joshua Jay Nieto: The ball never crossed. His legs went over. Neither yeah. Like the ball fit the ball like almost like football. Like the ball crossed that line. Right, the plane. And he didn't like it. His feet were across, but the ball was the ball was back here and he was crossed. Barry: Like the plane. I swear he did, bro. Okay. I don't know. I guess the angle. I was that was the only one I was like, man, that should you should have challenged that one. But I didn't again, I don't know what's challengeable or not anymore, any honestly. Shaun: That's across the plane, basically. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I saw I saw a play. Th there was a big play last night. I think it was like a little within about two minute mark where Fox is one on one at the top of the key. He ends up with a he ends up shooting a step back three that hits the front of the rim. And Fox, bro, is this is the stuff where it's all coaching. This is where you got to call a timeout. Cause you got Fox going up against OG Anunoby. Right. And it's like, bro, exactly. And guess who's in the corners? You're not gonna believe this. On the left corner, you got the matchup Barry: ⁓ OG's gonna no man, he's a frickin' defensive beast, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: of Jalen Brunson and Harper, which is way better matchup. And in the right corner, I think it's Vassell and Alvarado. So it's like, right, why are we why are we why are we doing why are we going with the worst matchup with the clock ticking down in the shot clock? Like just little little things like that is dumb. Barry: Yes. Even a better matchup. Yeah, expose those, bro. And a lot of forced threes too. I think that was the Achilles heel last night. They they had a really good first half with the threes and they just couldn't and that's coming from me, a Boston Celtics fan who we do that shit all the damn time where we just kill ourselves with the threes, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: Okay. ⁓ Shaun, are you a w are you a Spurs fan or who do you like? S Shaun: Nope. I am a, you're not going to like this. I'm a Heat fan. Barry: He is the worst, bro. The worst kind of fan there is. Nah, I don't wanna say that. He's a good dude. He's just a Heat fan. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Who, who do you like, dog? A heat fan? Okay, that's cool. That ain't bad. I mean Shaun: Yeah, I'm a He-Fan. Alright. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I'm like, what are you about to say right now? Joshua Jay Nieto: This is like when you ask a girl how many kids she got. Shaun: And those terms I got like four, I got like four kids. Yeah. Barry: Mm. Mm. A little risky, but not too much, right? Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm-hmm. Yeah. You could have been worse. You could have said you're like a Lakers fan or a Knicks fan. I think Lakers fans, Knicks fans, you are a Braun fan. That's terrible. Barry: Le He is a Bron fan. I know that. Yeah, he is a Bond fan. Shaun: ⁓ absolutely. He's the goat. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: But what were we saying? I forgot, what were we talking about? ⁓ yeah, the poor choices. Yeah, dude. We and and and then it was the shooting quick and the shot clock that got me too. It's like Barry: we're just talking about the missed just the poor choices. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Yeah, those are horrible, bro. Especially in the fourth quarter. You should be shooting with no more or no less than five seconds, if or me or I mean no more than five seconds on the clock, bro. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: If if I'm point guard, if I'm a Spurs point guard, I'm pointing down at you know which side I want the screen and I'm dribbling up at the top of the key till there's seven seconds and then I'm gonna start going to work. And I'm either gonna drive in and push shoot a pull up, you know, off the pick and roll, or I'm gonna dish it to whoever is the screener, but we're not going to work till there's seven seconds in the shot clock. Mike Wilbon, I'm on Mike Wilbon said that the Spurs shot twelve three pointers with ten with with ten seconds or more. Barry: All right, y'all welcome back. Hope y'all enjoyed that time we spent with Josh. As he mentioned, he did just finish some shows here in the New Braunfels area, as well as making his way down into the valley here in Texas. By the time this airs 17th and far Texas, y'all have missed a damn good show. But the 18th at the Isla Resort in South Padre, if y'all are down there, check him out. Great show. And if you're traveling to New Mexico at the end of the month. There's no need to, bro. Get rid of that time. ⁓ yeah, heard that. Ten or more seconds on the shot clock in the second half. Mm-hmm. Nope. No. There were a lot of bad decisions in the second half, man. Just Joshua Jay Nieto: In the shot clock. And that's just that's just the three pointers. That's not including the the the two-point field goals. So, bro, you can't do that. Like we were giv Dude, to blow a to blow a twenty seven point lead, a lot has to go like like the coach said, you gotta be lucky. Like it like both have to happen. They gotta give you a little bit and you gotta take a little bit. And it was the perfect combination for the Spurs to just basically it was the worst loss in Spurs history, bro. As a as a franchise. The originally ⁓ originally it was the the three pointer that Ray Allen hit in the corner, you know, Miami. Barry: He'll be out that way as well. We're to post all his socials and everything so y'all can follow and get all that information if y'all are interested. Now, as we mentioned, talking to Josh, the Spurs, Knicks, game four was crazy. Well, guess what? Game five was even crazier. And unfortunately, there are no more NBA games this season. Shaun: you Barry: Yeah. Mm they did all that. Mm-hmm. It's a bad it was a bad one, bro. Like it was just it was hard to watch. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Mm. That one was a bad one. Yeah. Yeah. They had the ropes out and and the confetti ready, bro. And and LeBron and Ray Allen said, nah, not today. Man. Just a step. Shaun: That was a beautiful play. Joshua Jay Nieto: That w that that historically was our worst loss ever. And it might be still. I don't know, cause that you know Shaun: That is very sad. Yes. Barry: So sad. What do you thought Shaun? Shaun: Can I start this by saying Knicks in six Knicks in six they expectations. ⁓ They went above and beyond. They showed up and showed out and all five games, even the one that they lost, they still showed up and showed out. Barry: Of course, I know you're the one who picked the Knicks, so it would only be right. I mean, they proved you right even shorter amount of time, unfortunately. Joshua Jay Nieto: That that Shaun: Yeah. He knew exactly where the line was, except right behind it. Joshua Jay Nieto: So so I don't know. What do you think? What do y'all think? That that's a great question. What do y'all think? Which loss is worse as far as ⁓ the Spurs franchise goes? The loss last night or that loss to LeBron and Bosch and Allen? Barry: Bro. I'll let you go, Shaun, since you're a Heat fan, I'll give you your your time to hear that was perspective. I'll let you keep talking for a say my piece. Shaun: I just need to I just needed to get that out. I just need to get that out get it off my chest Make sure that you know the mixer here JB is the JB is the JB No, Jalen Brunson is JB Yes Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, I want to hear it. Shaun: The Heat fan in me wants to say that that was the worst loss, but last night was terrible. That game was over at the end of the first quarter. There should not have been any reason for New York to even have a chance. If the Spurs would have just put their foot down and just absolutely like played all out for the rest of the game, don't fall in love with the three. Yeah, it's going on right now. But move the ball. Barry: Don't say that. We've already agreed you won't say that bro. Jalen Brunson. We know who JB is. No, no. JB's been in the league longer bro. You better put some respect on that name. Thank you. No. False. Should have been. Shaun: Jalen Brunson is JB. He is that dude. You what, you sound a lot like Becky Hammond right now. You know, I just wanna throw that out there. play Spurs ball like that's what the Spurs are known for is team ball. Move the ball, swing it, find the best shot, get the open man. Yeah. Yeah. And then you've got, you've got the literal alien on your team. Use that to your advantage. Like get down in the paint, work at it every single time. KAT's been in foul trouble since two minutes into the game. Like use that to your advantage. Yeah. Barry: No, bro, I give Jalen Brunson his credit, bro. He scored almost half of their points in that game and literally carried them to the finals victory that game straight up. So I will give him the man his respect, but no, he will never be JB to me. He'll only be Brunson Shaun: Exactly. Barry: It was a lot of ISO just jump shots, bro. Shaun: Yes. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm-hmm. Barry: Freak, man, for real. Shaun: Haters gonna hate, man. But how sad are you? I know that neither one of us really had a horse in the race, but that was a pretty... Barry: No, I think like I just said, I'm just sad that NBA is over until what? September, October, when preseason starts, that's the most saddest part to me. Like our horses have been out the race for a couple of months now. So. But now, bro, it was I mean, I think to like I said, my bias definitely aided in my choice. But the Spurs youth man, they just. Yeah. That offensive foul like you were talking about, Josh, that was a big one for real. Shaun: Right September, October. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yep. Hey did y'all did y'all did did y'all think that that foul ⁓ that flagrant foul they called on Wemby for the elbow when he tried to move swim move was a flagrant foul? Shaun: So I would say last night was worse. Yeah. Barry: think it was a makeup call for Brunson. Honestly. I really do. Joshua Jay Nieto: I think so too. That was my exact thought. Because I don't think so, bro, because Shaun: I think it was a flagrant though. Barry: I mean I think by definition it was, but he was making a basketball move if you really w like so it wasn't egregious. I get it though. 'Cause he he caught him in in the jaw, bro. It was i and it hurts. Shaun: By definition, Barry: For everything they showed in the conference finals, they lacked in the real finals, man, unfortunately. I think there was a stat and they showed it on the screen towards the end of maybe even like right at the start of the fourth quarter. How literally the spurs shooting percentage drops dramatically from quarter to quarter. Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. It's like are we gonna call every s you you know when you know when the o Shaun: Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: You know when an offensive player is going to the basket and you accidentally like go up and you hit somebody, like sa same thing with defense. Like like, bro, that's so hard. And I I hate the flagrant. I hate the flagrant foul rule as far as if you get four points, you get ejected. That that that's terrible. That's a terrible rule. No, and it's not it's not for a series. It's for correct, but how Shaun: Thank Barry: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, your elbow can catch him. Bro, I didn't even know that that was a thing. I my friend who's a Spurs fan was telling me that. Like I was like, Wait, what? For a series? Shaun: We play off, yeah. Barry: It's just for the playoffs. Joshua Jay Nieto: That's such that's it. How is it that if you advance in the playoffs, you know, it's it's the first round, you get the second round, the conference the the you get you go four round right, you go four rounds deep. So you're telling me basically if you average it out, you're only allowed one flagrant foul per series, and then you're eventually gonna be suspended for the biggest series of all time, the the the the finals? Like make that make sense. Shaun: It's not how you start. It's how you finish. ⁓ Barry: It all is high in Brunson, bro. He I mean, bro, he not game just watching him. It was I mean, like I say, it's good basketball. I recognize the dude went out and carried his team, man. But OG was so close to being MVP in my book, bro. Like if Brunson hadn't gone for 40, 40, go 45, 48, something crazy. If he hadn't done that game five, I don't know if you don't give it to the OG man. Kind of a detriment, right? The longer you stay around. Shaun: Yeah. So close. Barry: A lot of these new rules don't necessarily make sense. Like I'm the sixty five game rule, I get what they're trying to accomplish, but at the same time, hold it or don't. Like they allowed Luka and what's his name for injuries late in the season. But I mean if you're gonna say it's a sixty five game rule, it's a sixty five game rule, stick to it. And then you tell ⁓ what's his name? ⁓ my gosh, I'm going blank from the Timberwolves Ant. Shaun: Uh-uh. Yeah, OG didn't really show up in game five, not the way that he could have. And then the five foul, first of all, that fifth foul, I was very upset that Mike Brown didn't challenge it. I think that if he would have challenged that, he might have had a chance of winning it. So yeah, I don't know, OG, I think if he would have showed up more in game five, he definitely had a shot at getting the MVP for the finals. Barry: No, he didn't. Mm. Yeah. That his injury is not the same as theirs and so he doesn't get the exclude. Like I just there's the consistency. So like you're saying, make it make sense. Like if you want to have the best people later in, I get it if you're trying to prevent people from going around doing stupid shit and hurting people, but that's I don't I don't know. Shaun's take from last episode was Wemby might be a little dirty. I'm just gonna say that, Josh. I think it's a little more immature than dirty, but he has the I mean the mud face for Brunson from the back. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, it doesn't make sense. It it it's like Barry: Yeah, bro. He locked a lot of people down, man. He locked a lot of people down and just did. I mean, he took on the bigs of of the spurs, man. Shaun: Yeah, like the biggest of the spurs. Barry: And he had some, think he went for 30 in like game four. He went up for a lot of points. He didn't really helped in their comeback too. So. Joshua Jay Nieto: They need to switch this. ⁓ there we go. Look at that. Shaun: He does. Joshua Jay Nieto: Look, I'm a Spurs fan. I don't I hate using the word dirty, right? I don't think he's a I don't think he's a I think it's ⁓ immaturity. I don't think it's I don't think that he's a dirty player. I think that it comes from frustration. You know what I mean? I think it I I Shaun: Mm-hmm. I mean, I would I would say this is kind of going left field, but. The most disappointing thing about that series was how it ended for San Antonio, the way that they walked off of the court without congratulating the Knicks without shaking hands like I know, like some people like the old heads, they're like, that's soft. We're not friends and all that other stuff. But this is the last game you have to you have to shake their hand and be like, hey, This was the end. Barry: That's why I say he's a little immature and he just doesn't get everything yet. Yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Mm. Yeah. Immaturity, taking it out in the moment versus keeping a pro you know, prevailing with a cooler head. Yeah. Shaun: Yeah, absolutely. Joshua Jay Nieto: Exactly. But cause because he has been in in every series, in every in every regular season game, because he's so damn big. When you're you we all you I mean, I don't know if Shaun's a hooper, but Barry, you're a hooper. You hoop with if if I'm I'm five nine, if I'm playing against somebody who's I'm guarding a six three dude, six four dude, I'm giving up, I don't know, like a half half a foot. I have to do something. You know what I mean? You gotta be a little more physical, you gotta shove a little more. Shaun: Good job. You got the better of us. That's what sportsmanship is. That's what it's all about. That was very disappointing to see that they just kind of walked off. Mitch Johnson, Mitch Johnson, shout out to him. He stood around. He shook their hands. I think I hate to admit it, but Luke Kornet he did too. He stayed around there. shook their hands. Class. Yeah, that from such in class is the word from such a classy organization like the Spurs. Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: And am I fouling him? Yeah, I am, but it's a pickup game. So is this guy gonna call a foul? No, but it this is a ⁓ a g ⁓ an NBA game. So there is a lot that goes on that's not called and it yeah Barry: My guy bro, class. ⁓ bro, they let ⁓ play for the most part. But yeah, but it's hard to be a ref too. I was gonna say you could probably call one on every literal play in the NBA. Shaun: There's a foul every single play. Seeing them not do that was that was disappointing. I'm not going to lie. But hey, it is what it is. It's frustrating in the moment, so. Joshua Jay Nieto: You can. And and that's I guess that's the tough part for Wemby is like, bro, he's getting harassed a lot. Barry: You ain't wrong. No, is, I mean, like you said, bro, I get the throughout the series. Yeah, you don't. But when it's over, like, pay your respect. mean, and I think kind of like how we talk with Josh, too. I mean, that's just a sign of the immaturity, like as frustrating as it is to lose and to lose in the fashion that you did. Like you literally had a double digit lead in every game and game four, you had a 30, almost 30 point, 29 point lead. And so Shaun: You Barry: He's getting a lot of physicality in his direction. So like you say, it's like I gotta draw a line, I gotta set like my own boundary if the refs aren't gonna do it. So it is a give and take. But like you said, I think it's a lot of that combined with the maturity and to how to know to get away with those things while still maintaining that, you know, the the mental game as well. Shaun: Yeah. Yeah. every game. Uh huh. Joshua Jay Nieto: And it cause it because a and it's not just Wemby. It's it's you can you can really I mean you could literally look at a lot of players. Like I'm a Spurs fan, so I look at like Castle. Castle n Castle throughout the regular season and the playoffs does not get the respect he deserves as far as fouls go. There's a lot of fouls that they let go. And I know on defense he's aggressive, but he d in my opinion, Lou Dort is a is a defender that gets away with more BS. You know? Lou Dort plays a little on the Barry: You have to be upset with the way the things end. But like we just talked about you, that's part of, you know, being mature and handling those situations is sometimes even in those moments, if you can't learn and you learn from them. And so this is one of those things. But yeah, taking that away, you walking away and not at least shaking and just even if it's quickly like least give give him handshakes and then walk out. Yeah, move on. No. Shaun: Yeah, just dab and you're good. Yeah, just keep it going. Joshua Jay Nieto: dirty side or like real grabby and tugging on jerseys and stuff like that. But ⁓ there's people there's Brunson, I think he gets the whistle. SGA was getting the whistle. I think in the Spurs series it kind of evened out. But there are players that get the whistle more so than others and and it's and it's it like y'all said, refs are human beings. So is it gonna is it gonna be Barry: Like, yeah, it was. I saw that too. I think him and Castle walked off pretty quick, a little disappointing. Shaun: Yeah, but I mean like you said it's immaturity they they've got such an incredibly bright future ahead of them Yeah, I know everybody's calling for Fox to be like kicked off traded or whatever it is, but It's tough Yeah Barry: ⁓ bro, their next five, six years are gonna be... Mm-hmm. Dude, I couldn't imagine refing at that level. I refed one middle school game and I thought I was gonna have a conniption trying to blow that whistle in the right moment, bro. Like it's hard. Dude, and that's the thing. You got parents yelling at you. I'm like, I want to be like, up, like you come down here and do it. Like show me how it's so easy. Like it's real easy from the stand, from the TV to be like, yo, you should have got that right. But bro, in the moment it's like you see something happen and you're like, okay, was that what I thought? Bro, we talked about it. It was a bad move. It was a bad, it was a wrong choice. Like as much as you're going to defend it after the fact, like, I mean, it's like JR Smith. We all know he messed up. He knew he messed up. LeBron knew he messed up. Just you messed up. You made the wrong decision. You made the wrong choice. Shaun: in the back. Joshua Jay Nieto: Ha ⁓ then you get parents trying to beat you up. Shaun: Mm-hmm. you Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, trade. Shaun: Yeah. Yeah. You messed up. It happened. Wendy missed some massive three or some massive free throws in those games in four and five. Nobody's calling for him to be traded. So take a break. Give him a little bit. Barry: Dude, both games, four and five. Mm-hmm. Nope. Yeah. You ain't wrong. I mean, that's the thing with team sports, bro. It's a culmination of everybody. It's not one person that, yes, there are big moments that people mess up in. And so you can, those easily stand out. You can point to those directly. But I mean, if you're not hustling for 48 minutes, those loose balls, those offensive rebounds, getting those extra possessions. By the time you decide the plays already halfway down the court, you're like, Well damn, do I blow the whistle now when they it's already late? Like I couldn't imagine at the like the skill level and the speed that the NBA's played at to call that shit in real time. Like I could not imagine. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm-hmm. Shaun: Exactly. Joshua Jay Nieto: And I've ref too, bro. I ref ⁓ for probably about since I I was about 19 years old till now. Like I've ref games on and off here and there. And I will say that, bro, I can probably see fouls called more easily just sitting down in the center of the court versus running up and down. So it is tough to be running down the sideline and like being at the same ⁓ you know view and level as what the players are. It's hard to to really catch it. Barry: Mm. Those add up is all I mean, that's the whole Celtics philosophy is the margins. How do you get better in those margins, especially when you're not better than the team you're playing? That's where you can potentially win games is in those margins. So all that stuff adds up and it's easy to point the finger after the fact. And I mean, for us, like we talk with Josh, it's easy to sit here from a TV or from the stands and say, this is what you should have done. And this is what should have been called. But in those moments, it's. ⁓ a hundred percent. Exactly. Shaun: and then. you Barry: Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: I can easily ca I can probably catch it better sitting at center court in the right. So sometimes I don't sometimes I feel like, dude, what if basketball was ref like that instead of the refs running up and down? Like what if you just had like refs like almost like tennis? Like what if you just had what if you just had four refs like at the each twenty eight foot mark, maybe six refs, and they just sit, you know, and it's called like that. It might look goofy, but it'd probably be a Barry: ⁓ for sure, bro. Bird's eye view, man. Yeah. Yeah. Shaun: Mm-hmm. So, which is you. Barry: It's not easy to make those decisions. So everybody needs to think with a grain of salt. And I mean, even us, right. And to say what he should have done. But in the moment, you're like, I got this. And then you don't. Then you don't. Just sitting there watching. Shaun: You don't got this. It happens, man. Even world-class athletes can make mistakes, guys. I think that's an important lesson here. They can mess up too. They're human. Man, well... Games would stop though. Barry: I mean Joshua Jay Nieto: It'd probably be a more consistently called game in my opinion, because when these refs are running, sometimes you miss sight of things when you're when you're when you're moving or you get yeah, you get caught looking at the ball. Barry: But yeah, just, yeah, no, it is, man. Yeah, they're humans too. Yep, for sure, mom. Shaun: Mm. Barry: ⁓ yeah, you're out of position. Like you say, there's only three of ⁓ so they're only gonna see so much, man. It's human error, bro. And I know they try and help that with the, you know, the video review and all but even then I feel like too, a lot of fans don't necessarily know the rules to the T like the refs do. ⁓ and like you said, we have our biases too. You're gonna want calls to go in the way of your team versus Shaun: you Barry: But yeah, no, I mean, they were really good games, even though it was only five of them. They all came down to it. So I mean, you can as a sports fan, you can't really ask for more than that for it really to come down to the last minute or two and potentially the last shots like we saw like four times in that series. think game one was the only one that really didn't come down to the last shot. So. Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Barry: I mean, that's just who you know, who we are as human beings and as fans for a team. You're gonna have that bias where they're trying to remain unbiased and just call a fair game. Shaun: Yeah, that was the only one that was pretty decisive. Yeah. Barry: They as a sports fan, I think, like I said, with Josh, man, I love to watch that, but I hate being a fan of those teams and those games because it's so stressful. especially if you're on the losing side, it hurts so bad. Joshua Jay Nieto: Mm-hmm. That ⁓ that's what we hope. Barry: That's what we hope. Shaun: Yeah, some of them it doesn't look that way. Barry: Yeah. Yeah. But to go back to your question, Josh, I think this one could be a lot worse than Miami one. Just cause we already know what happened with the Miami one, that it turned into a lost finals. If they can somehow do what your bald take is and and win game seven, I would still hand it to the Miami one since it ended up in a lost championship. But that's yet to be seen. So that's just kind of how I see it. Shaun: Never know. Yeah, it's disappointing. I mean, it's one of those things that it takes a while to get over it. But like I said, for the Spurs, they've got such a bright future. Like it's one of those like, all right, we got there. We got beat up, but we're going to come back next year. We're going to be stronger. We're going to be better. And we'll be just good. If you even think about Mitch Johnson, now he's got a full season under his belt. He's he's got more experience. They're going to be good. Of course, they've got pops Pop in the background. He's going to be. Barry: Yeah, yeah, for sure. Shaun: you Joshua Jay Nieto: Did you see at halftime how they were pointing out the stat that this is the largest, the second largest 'cause the bubble they didn't count the bubble, but they excluded the bubble, it was the largest halftime deficit deficit in NBA Finals history. Do you think there was some scripted shit going on? Do you think there was I don't know either. Barry: Yeah, help an organization. Now, that'd be good, bro. That'd be fine. And they got a lot of these guys on early you know, like rookie or rookie contracts, at least for next year or two. So they'll they'll be good until they have to start paying all these folks. And then you've got to make those decisions. So it'll be interesting. ⁓ Shaun: amount to yeah so very good yeah Barry: Damn. I just watching it was a lot of bad choices, man. And even at the end, like I feel bad for ⁓ for the man, but De'Aaron Fox, I know he was like, I sh I wanted to take the layup because it would have put us up three. But any and I you're a hooper, we're we're hoopers, like any hooper knows, bro. You stop, you dribble that bitch out, and you call a game. Bro, when he s kept running, I was like, What is he doing? Shaun: Yeah, I think Fox's contract just kicked in too. I think his extension just kicked in after this season. So they got a lot of deals that are out there. So Spurs fans, take a deep breath. It's going to be okay. Y'all are fine. You're in good hands. As much as I hate to admit it, you're in good hands, but Miami's coming for you. Yeah. It's going to be all right. Miami and Boston next year. We're coming. We're trying to, we're trying to take that. ⁓ Barry: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Were y'all in were y'all in shock when you saw him go to like go towards the hoop? Shaun: So here's the thing though. I think it goes right back to what you were just saying about the officials. Like it's easier to watch it and be like, what are you doing right now? Rather than to be in that moment in Madison Square Garden, they are going absolutely crazy. Yeah. Absolutely wild. Yeah. Barry: As much as it sucks right now. Yeah, it's gonna be all right. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Barry: Yeah. I'm already talking crap to those Knicks fans. know, bro. say y'all better enjoy it because we coming for that ass next year, Hundred percent. But that's the experience that we're talking about. ⁓ I know, a hundred yeah, the adrenaline is probably at a thousand, bro. And you're just like shit, I got a wide open layup, why wouldn't I take it? I just but I'm just that but that's the thing that like you have to know in that moment, even regardless of hey, you sh it is Shaun: ⁓ Giannis is coming down the South Beach, man. It sounds like it sounds like it sounds like he's coming down. Barry: Yo, okay, so it sounds like our teams are literally the top two teams going for that man now. Have you heard any more? Have you read any more? Like what are you feeling? Joshua Jay Nieto: I mean but but think about it this way. Shaun: Yeah. It's healthy. I haven't heard anything else. in the moment. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I've just but I have seen I like lately, even even ⁓ not even just the Spurs, even just basketball in general, in the playoffs in in this in this past few years, I've seen a lot of low IQ plays, bro, that Shaun: Of course you want Giannis That's an obvious thing. But I don't think you give away the whole farm for him. He's... Exactly. Yeah. Barry: right? That's what worries me with Miami going after him, And I'm not trying to say that because I don't like your team. really like, he is past his prime and what are you going to give up for that man? And is it going to leave you with anything left to compete? Mm-hmm. I mean shit, think of Houston. They blew that six point lead with thirty seconds to go in the first round, bro. Like how? Shaun: Mm-hmm. Well, he's passed his prime. I mean, there's Joshua Jay Nieto: Right, exactly. Good example. J like they they're comparing like J.R. Smith when he when he didn't know the the time. It's like how does this happen? Bro, if that was me in the game, I am holding that ball so damn tight as soon as I get it, and I am make ⁓ like right, I mean he caught he to his defense, he did pick up the ball. If you watch the the the footage Shaun: Mm-hmm. Barry: Mm-hmm. Shaun: Exactly. we're not if if we take on the Thanasis to get Giannis I don't know if I will be able to do it know, they're a package deal at the end of the day. Either if the Thanasis is going with Giannis or he's out of the league, ⁓ one are you in? Are you going to have a disgruntled Giannis at that point? So what do you do in that situation? I don't want to give up hero. I don't want to give up BAM. Where you do it? Yeah. Barry: ⁓ that stuff was so crazy. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: ⁓ God, I didn't think about that, bro. I don't even think about that. Bro, as soon as you get over half court, stop. That's all you gotta do. Get over half court. That's crazy. Joshua Jay Nieto: He picked up the ball about the elbow, maybe a little even closer. So his momentum's kind of already taken him until that layup a little bit. But me. Barry: Yeah. But you gotta know, like you said, Anunoby, one of the best chase down defenders in the game right now, is coming behind you. Shaun: but they're definitely gonna ask for one of them. We do have some draft picks in the future draft picks, but like 2028, 2029 and those, I don't think we have anything coming up. So I don't know. I definitely want to give up Kel'el Ware either because he's got a bright future ahead of him. Yeah. So I don't know. I don't know how you make it happen and not give up the core of the team. Wiggins can go. I don't have Wiggins. Barry: Do y'all have draft picks to give out? Hmm. Hmm. So not like this season, next season. Damn. Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. It's like why even put they and and dude there's there's less than fifteen seconds. There's no the shot clock is off. They they have to foul you. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Barry: Bro. It's irrelevant. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Barry: You have the lead. You don't need a basket. You don't need a shot. He's such a young promising talent bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: So you so you're either right, you're guess what? Worst thing that can happen is you miss both free throws and you're up one. You make one, you're up two. You make them both, you're up three. It's like and I told my I told my daughter I w she was with her mom last night, but I told her I had to have a talk with her, like a like a father-daughter talk, like, hey, because she hoops. So I'm like, if this right, if this ever happens to you, don't you ⁓ Barry: And you're still up one and but you killed enough That's what I told Becca, bro. That's exactly what I told her. So worries me with Boston. Now I mean Wiggins has passed his prime bro for sure. He's been around for a long time. I he's still productive but he ain't who he used to be. I mean I think the Warriors got the best of him in their last finals when they won it against the Celtics. That dude hooped out for them. Shaun: Yeah. Not even close. Barry: That's not what you do in that moment. Shaun: Yeah. Mm-hmm. So would you, say Celtics have a ton of capital. Hahaha Joshua Jay Nieto: Take a shot. I will I will Barry: Bro, the more I'm reading, the more I'm scared that it's going to happen. I will come off the the sideline and yell at you girl. ⁓ Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Alright, I will kill you. You will become a Spurs fan. I'll show you what it's like to be a Spurs fan in New York. I will I will Knick you. Shaun: It's likely to happen if he's willing to do it. let's say scenario a one for one trade. Giannis for Brown. Would you would you like that as a fan? Ha ha ha. Barry: ⁓ Watch out, bro. That's probably Josh just created a new verb, bro. You're gonna get Knicked You're gonna get Knicked, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: ⁓ You're gonna get nicked. Shaun: man. I'll make you. Barry: Bro, I go back and forth on this because Giannis went healthy and I always hate prefacing any conversation when comes to trading, especially JB, like giving right a Brown bro. Like I said on our last episode, bro, he's a Celtic. He's like he lives, breathes, embodies what they're about and he's built their identity since he's come along. He's a longest tenured Celtic right Shaun: Man, like you mentioned like these low IQ plays, do you think that some of that comes from how much analytics is talked about now? Because that's all we ever hear about now. It's real, though. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, I d I don't I don't I don't know, bro. I know because I I mean I'm I'm I'm a fan of like the bullshit gambling. Like I'm a fan of prize picks and underdog. Not I'm not gonna say fan. It's just it is fun to have some stakes in the game. Like if I would ever when I would do it, I'd put like ten bucks a game. Like I'm gonna put to my little it's like it's like doing a scratch off lottery ticket. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: I know Brad Stevens, they scared to do that though, because he did it with Marcus Smart to go get freaking Jru Holiday and Kristaps and I'm so, ⁓ don't know. I'm such, I'm so on the fence with it. Cause he really addresses every need they have. And like we talked about Jaylen and Jaden Jayson Tatum, they compliment each other and they do a lot of the same things, but at same time they do do different things. So I would be so sad if it happened. I would. Yeah. Shaun: He's not. Exactly. Mm-hmm. Barry: See what happens. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, it's like am I gonna go to the am I gonna go to the seven eleven and get a scratch off and scratch it and the moment's over in in in a second? Or am I gonna get to sit down and watch my team play and have like some stakes in the game? It makes it it makes it a little more fun. It's all about that dopamine hit. But you're right, and I don't know, it's just like but but the bonehead play is like, how do you make that play? Like I've been watching this video circulating of the finals between the Pistons and the Spurs when the Spurs were up five, Ginobli had a layup. Shaun: everything on. Barry: Yeah. Yeah. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Barry: I mean, I, you know, I would probably like literally like be down for a couple of days just like working through the mental of that. You know, I did that when they traded. It hurts, bro. I don't want it. Like I said, I really don't want him to go. I don't. love that man. But I don't know what it looks like if it is Giannis because him and Tatum together, if I don't know, does it work? I would think. But everybody. Shaun: I can hear your voice kind of shaking just thinking about it. Joshua Jay Nieto: And he pulls it out and goes around and he dribbles it out. He dribbles for about four or five seconds before they finally foul him. And it's just like, bro, what happened to this? This is like the play. This is like the kneel in football. Barry: It or like if you g if you're the running back and you break open with a a three point lead and no, you slide at the goal line and you kneel the game so they don't ever touch the ball again. You do. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, you slide. You don't go out of bounds. Right. Shaun: Uh-huh. Barry: Oh man, it's all speculation. I don't exactly, but it'll be, you know, was so sad when they traded away IT for Kyrie. Like that hurt me, bro. I was so such an IT guy and it would be the same for Brown. It would be like, I'm probably have to work through some stages, bro. Like for real. But yo, they did him wrong, bro. I ain't even gonna lie. So they used him and just Shaun: You don't know until it actually happens. ⁓ Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: It's just an and you st and you still see that happen. You still see guys go out of bounds and like, ⁓ whoops. And it's like, what did you want? An extra year like you said, you right. Did you want to pad your stats? Did you want to get an extra two, three yards? For what? Are we trying to win the game? Are we trying to get you two more yards? Are we trying to win the game? Are we trying to Fox two more points in the stat sheet? Like was Fox afraid to shoot the free throws? Like his ex his his excuse in the interview is inexcusable. Barry: Bro, you just gave them thirty seconds on the clock 'cause you didn't kneel down. Right? For one extra yard? Yeah. Yeah. Shaun: Thank Yeah. Yeah, man, I see he got the short end of the stick way too much, man. Barry: ⁓ no, man. gave them away when they needed to. I mean, they brought in a greater talent, unfortunately, but I'm glad they brought them back because they brought them back for college scouting, though. They gave them a job. I guess they're trying to make amends and maybe it'll be all right in the end. But yeah, I don't know, bro. Like, I've literally thought about this a lot and I don't know how I'll feel. Like you said, until it happens. I didn't hear what he said. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: He said I I thought I could have I thought I could have got got it by him. Like I thought I could beat him to the Yeah, I thought I could outrun him. Shaun: Yeah. He thought I could outrun him. thought I could do that. Yeah. Barry: If if you if you don't know, but if you don't know, then you don't make that call, bro. If you're not like I got this, I'm wide open. Shaun: Yeah, that's That's true. Joshua Jay Nieto: But you no, it is but it's not even that, bro. It's like, this is an example. It's like, you know, when you're in traffic and you want to make a left turn and you see cars coming, right? And you're like, should I make this left turn now or should I wait or whatever? It's like, bro, if you don't have to make that left turn, don't make it. Like, if you got if you got precious cargo on board, if you got your five-month-old daughter in the backseat, you're gonna wait till the coast is 100% clear. Why are you gonna try to sneak in there? Shaun: you Barry: I don't even want to think about how I would have to feel because I don't want that yet. I don't know why. I just don't want to yet. Don't make it. Shaun: Mm-hmm. It's hard to let go of those, like, really. Barry: But one him and JT just, they're such a good duo. I mean, it's arguable, but to me they're the best duo in the league. That's debatable. I'm not saying that it's 100%, but they are hard to beat as a duo. Why? Exactly, right? You're gonna be a hundred percent sure. Shaun: Mm-hmm. ⁓ Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. So like when when he when he got that his only thought, bro, and my only thought, as soon as that ball got tipped and started going to the backcourt, my only thought as a as a coach, as a player, as a fan was all right, as soon as he grabs his ball, he's gonna hold it and he's gonna wait till you get fouled. When I saw his dumb ass go up to the lay for the layup, I was like, dude, he just lost us the game. He's giving the Knicks another tr another try. Like Shaun: from a Yeah, from a lifelong Celtics hater, I will say that the beautiful thing about JT and JB together is the fact that everyone has always told them that it won't work, that it's not going to work with them two together and they have proved that wrong. So I would say that that's like the most beautiful thing about that duo. But I mean, all good things must come to an end at some point. Barry: I think that's what makes this one so much more brutal, just to watch it happen. Like with the Miami one, it was just good ass plays, bro. Like it just you just got outplayed and you couldn't like there's nothing you can necessarily and that's what I'm saying. But it wasn't a dumb or questionable play. No. Joshua Jay Nieto: At least with the r ⁓ yeah, at least it was like Planko. Barry: For sure. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: It was out hustled. It was out rebound it w it was out It wasn't there was no bonehead play. The only bonehead play that people talk about to this day was should Duncan have been in the game for rebounding purposes. That's the bonehead s ⁓ the the severity of it is like and to me from one through ten that's about Shaun: by one Barry: Nothing lasts forever, bro. Shaun: Bron's gonna need a new home too. Where is Bron gonna go? I've been hearing a lot of whispers about the Warriors. I don't think he'd do that. Yeah, I don't think he would do that. Barry: I saw some things about him coming to Boston, which I think is bonkers. I don't think that would ever happen. Like taking the league minimum to come and get another ring here, but I'm like, I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I just don't see him doing that. But that's a major what if. That's not like what you did was the wrong choice or what you did you shouldn't have done. Shaun: Yeah, I think the Warriors would be interesting though. Joshua Jay Nieto: Right. So for me, on my scale of of of of dumbassness, from one through from one through ten, that was about a two and a half. All right. Like coach maybe should have put in Duncan. For the th what Fox pulled, that was a ten. That was a twelve. It's like you just don't do that, bro. Barry: I've seen that one starting to heat up the head and go there and team up a Curry for one last run at it, which I'm cool with that too. I mean, bro, I don't know, do what makes you happy. I'm not. Only one I didn't enjoy was the Heat I'm going to the end and not because he went to the Heat They just made such a big spectacle of it. Bro, do it. I'm respected. Nobody's loyal in the league anymore, especially when you talk about these organizations. Soon as they don't need you, they're going to get rid of you. So you want to go play elsewhere, go play elsewhere. But. Shaun: and Barry: It's tough. But like Shaun said, it and it is. Like I couldn't imagine being in that I couldn't imagine being in those moments trying to shoot free throws, bro. Like I when we play hoop we shoot free throws just to make the team and I get nervous as hell just doing that. I couldn't imagine if the game was on the line and I'm out here like, if I sync both these, I'm gonna we're gonna win the game. Like, bro, that has and I know they do it, so it's nothing to them, but ⁓ I don't enjoy pressure, bro. I don't fold under it, but I don't put myself in those positions 'cause I don't enjoy them. Shaun: in. you Mm-hmm. Barry: Be humble, stay humble. That's all I'm gonna say. Shaun: Okay, come on. He's the literal goat. He doesn't have to be humble. If you, it's not debatable. But if you were, if you were to take his career on and off the court, that's like the worst thing that you can say about him. The decision, like the spectacle of the decision. That's like the worst thing you can say about him. Yeah. Barry: Now we again this is all debatable that's he's your goat. Joshua Jay Nieto: And and that just means you're not a you're not a pressure guy. I I love pressure, bro. Like when I I love I mean, that's as a c as a competitive person, I know we're hasbins, I know we're old now, but any chance I get to be in a pressure situ maybe that's why I like stand-up comedy, bro. It's like I like pressure. ⁓ because even with comedy, it's like you're going into a room of strangers. Shaun: Yeah. You fold into the person. Barry: ⁓ no, you right. No, he's done great things and he's a great person like philanthropist all those things. I would admire him in all those ways. He just ain't my goat. That's it. Probably. Yeah. Shaun: Yeah. That's fair. Everyone is okay to be wrong. We all have bad opinions at times. Like you choosing this person for in 6. I mean, that was a really bad ⁓ And this is why you're not a betting man. I get it ⁓ I understand it. Like lethal shooter, understand it ⁓ It all makes sense. Joshua Jay Nieto: And they're there to laugh. They paid money to laugh. You have to make them laugh. And some of them are not some of them are easy to make laugh. And some of them are are the type of people that don't even want to be there. They got dragged out there by their friend and they hate comedy and they love shitting on people. They're hecklers. Yeah. Barry: I guess so. That was it was it was the wrong wrong bet. This is why I'm not a betting man. You nailed it, bro, because I'm not good at it. No, I hate it. I would hate if I lost money on that because it had nothing to do with me. So I don't have control over it. I don't bet on things. I don't have control over. I don't bet on things. I do have control over because why? They're not gonna, right? Shaun: Mm-hmm. Barry: Mm. Yeah. And well there's a lot of that in the world today, unfortunately. A lot of ⁓ keyboard heroes and all that bad stuff. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, but Fox Fox Fox made the br this is what I this is what I would have loved. I would have loved for Fox just to say, Hey, I messed up. You know, I've I I I screwed up. I'm I like he has he asked if he doesn't tell that to us in interviews, at least say it to your the locker room, you know? 'Cause 'cause imagine being that locker room with him, knowing that he did that. It's like, if I did that, I'd be like, yo, that one's on me, guys. I've I messed up. That was stupid of me. Shaun: That's fair, because you never know until you try. OK, on that note, well, thank you, everybody, for coming to check out episode number three. if you're new here, ⁓ make sure to give us ⁓ near and do. true. All of the above. Make sure to go and follow us. ⁓ Give that thumbs up if you are watching YouTube. Barry: I have enough addiction problems? Nah, I'm joking, I'm good. Y'all know me. I'm not addicted to anything. Hopefully. Shaun: ⁓ for sure. Barry: Near and new, we love you and appreciate you. Yeah. Own it. Yeah. Shaun: you Joshua Jay Nieto: I fucked up. Let's go play. Let's go play game five. It won't happen again, man. Let's let's get this. My bad. But you can't sit there and say, I thought I could have got I thought I could beat him out. I thought this. I thought that. It's like, bro, you made the wrong decision. You made the wrong play. It's like trying to steal second and you're down by four runs in baseball. It's like, you still need four runs. You're the only man on base. Why are you trying to steal second? If you don't need to. So Barry: Yeah. Shaun: We are on all of your socials, Instagram, almost said Netflix for some reason. Instagram, X, you never know, it might be there. Netflix, ESPN, we're gonna be on all of them. But you can listen to us anywhere that you listen to your podcast, Apple Music, I'm sorry, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Spotify, and of course YouTube. Barry: That's that's all you can do at this point, man. That's all they can do. Yeah, I know. Maybe one day. Hey, speak it into fruition, bro. Let's make it happen. Not yet, but maybe that's right. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Shaun: love you. Barry: Who? Why are you gonna steal? Yeah. Nope. Stay on base, yeah. Don't don't get off base. Nah, I even love it, but I mean speaking of that, I mean tell us I you talked about Jackals for a little bit. How did that all come to fruition for you, man? Shaun: Yeah, can't get it all back right now. Joshua Jay Nieto: I I'm a I'm a sports head, y'all, so I could talk about this all day. Shaun: We love you and we will see you next time on episode four. Stay safe and we will see you guys in the future. Bye-go. Peace. Barry: Peace out y'all. Joshua Jay Nieto: So at the beginning of the season, Wemby had a ⁓ like a it was like a tryout, like an audition to become a Jackal. They put it out there. And honestly, the turnout wasn't hu like it wasn't humongous, like it wasn't a ton of people. And I know a hundred percent it was it's because the night before there was a Canelo fight. Shaun: Hmm. Barry: Okay, okay. Joshua Jay Nieto: San Antonio is like 70% Hispanic. This fight didn't start till almost midnight, right? Because I I'll never forget it. I was like, dude, I'm like, I remember the fight was over. I don't forgot who he was fighting, but I was like, dude, I'm so tired. I gotta get to this audition in the morning. And it was like at 7 a.m. So I was actually happy. I'm like, sweet, my chances are better to get in on this. Like, this is good. Yeah, I'm like, this is good. Barry: Mm. Lower the percentages, bro. Give me a shot, right? Joshua Jay Nieto: But it was cool when I walked in. I was a little intimidated, bro, 'cause you got all these fans, Spurs fans that are ⁓ have face paint and you know, they're going they're going all out. And me, I've never been that guy. Like I mean, I you know, I've dressed up as Pitbull to go to some of the games and I do fun stuff. Barry: Yeah. Well I was gonna say, I was gonna call you out. That's me and my family. We saw you as Mr I don't what do you Mr. eight three ⁓ or two ⁓ Mr. Worldwide. I love it. But yo, he was on a golf cart when we and we saw dude literally drive by when we were walking in. It was awesome. Shaun: What was that? Joshua Jay Nieto: Mr Worldwide, Mr Two One O. They call me like a bunch of things. Shaun: or what? Joshua Jay Nieto: ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that. Yeah. And ⁓ but but the whole audition was cool, man, because we thought we were gonna be like auditioning for like Spurs ⁓ employees that work in the SSNEs, you know, San Antonio Sports and Entertainment. We thought it was gonna be some workers with headsets, kinda like almost like you're auditioning for like, you know, like the Yeah, and no, like they literally took three at a time. Shaun: Yeah Barry: It was the Celtics game, but it was fun. Yeah, like a acting audition or some shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: And we went behind the curtain and there was and you were auditioning for Wemby. Wemby was sitting there in a ice throne, like a big ass chair, like a king chair. And he was just like, like, all right, y'all, show me the like show me what you got. And so we just kinda like me and the the two other dudes, before we went in behind the curtain, I was like, All right, we're gonna we're gonna do this chant. Like we came up with a quick chant. I don't remember what it was. It was like we didn't do Go Spurs Go. It was something we made up on the fly. I can't remember exactly what we said, but I just knew we had to do something that kind of stood out. Barry: Down. Okay. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: And ⁓ me and this other homie made it. The other guy I didn't I he didn't make it, but ⁓ but it was cool. So we had the audition. a week later I got an email saying, Hey, we want you to be a part of this and and ⁓ we got it was we you had to pay, you know, you had to pay to to do it, but the price was insane. Like it was like it was it was a thousand dollars for the whole season. So it's like Yeah. And and it comes out the the math comes out to twenty five about twenty five bucks a game. Barry: ⁓ I heard it was such a good deal, bro. For the whole season. And y'all had good seats. Like they weren't they were on the first level, like Shaun: Wow, Joshua Jay Nieto: And just for a little insight, the parking at Frostbank is thirty bucks. And you get from we get free parking. So it's like we're playing twenty five bucks a game for everything. ⁓ the hardest part was is just like the commitment. Like, and that's for like I I can't speak up for all the Jackals, is like everyone's got family, kids, like you know, right, right. So it's like it it is hard that like ⁓ in seasons I had season tickets, I take my daughter with me. You know what I mean? Barry: Sign me a ⁓ is insane. Nice. Shaun: and Barry: Yeah. I mean Yeah. I mean y'all are real people, y'all are real fans, bro. Yeah. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Being that you're a Jackal, you get one ticket and that's it. So I'm having to tell my girl, my daughter, you know, my family, like, hey, I'm going to the game. Peace out. So it is it's kind of a s it's a s it's a selfish move because it it seems selfish, but as a Spurs fan, it's selfless because it's like, yo, I'm giving my time to go yell and cheer and be loud to bring energy to the Frostbank Center versus being with Barry: Mm. Shaun: you Barry: Yeah. That is a big commitment, solo for sure, bro. Yeah. Shaun: No. Joshua Jay Nieto: my family or, you know, I I think I missed one of Jayla's ⁓ dance recitals or something and it's like, Man, I'm missing some important stuff that most of these players wouldn't even want to miss and I'm and we're missing it. But but the experience has been dope though. Like I can't complain. Like w y we've I've met a you know, eighty other strangers that are Spurs fans and good people and like the connections that have been made. Like you saw the ESPN article. ⁓ so Barry: Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Shaun: Mm. Barry: Well, I was gonna say, tell us about that, man. That seems like a really genuine and awesome connection for sure. Shaun: Mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: It's been dope, bro. It's like ⁓ we've got to we also got ⁓ the Spurs paid for us to go to the ⁓ the Houston game earlier in the year. We did a road trip to Houston. And it's just like being it's almost reminded me of being a player back in like middle school, high school. Like the connection, right? Like when I like when you play have you ever played sports in school, like everybody you you don't really remember too much about in game scenarios. You remember like eating with your friends at this tournament, right? Going Barry: ⁓ that's cool. Nice. Shaun: Nice. Barry: That connection, bro. Yeah. Right. Hanging out, listening to music, bro, all them things. Yeah, bro, the bus rides home, man. Hell yeah, bro. Bro, we used to hit up Chicken Express on the way home all the time, bro. Get down. Shaun: Mm-hmm. crazy stuff in the bus. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: on the b the bus rides, like yeah, stopping to get food at this McDonald's and you know, just Shaun: Thank Joshua Jay Nieto: So that's the stuff you remember and that's how it's been with the Jackals is like we have a lot of fun when we're not sitting there in our seats. Like it's the it it was the the ride to Houston and and the camaraderie and meeting people and ⁓ you know, I can rattle off a bunch of friends like ⁓ these these guys, man, Bobby, Frank, Alex. There's like we got like five Alexes, ⁓ Abel, a Big Abel ⁓ little Abel. So Big Abel's Abel's dad. Barry: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Abel and the story was on ESPN is that Abel's blind. And so Abel's dad was was ⁓ sits with him. You know, he kind of, you know, he he he's always with him. He's like a chaperone. And he ⁓ he gives him he would I would see him at the games, his dad telling him, like, what would happen? You know, say Wemby dunks it. I'd see him whispering, hey Wemby just dunked it. And so he wasn't really doing play by play. He was kind of more just telling him what's going on. ⁓ man Barry: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Right. Shaun: No. Joshua Jay Nieto: So-and-so had a really nice block. Like he didn't suck at it, but he wasn't doing like play by play style. And I told Abel Abel let me like just one day messing around. I was like, let me do play by play for you, bro. I'll I'll make it fun. And so I it's all it all started off as like a joke, like being fun. And then from like it was probably about mid mid season, probably like January-ish. ⁓ I did but I just kept on. You know what I mean? ⁓ there was a game or here and there where I wouldn't just because ⁓ I needed a break, because it is it it is a lot, like literally. Barry: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, I could imagine, bro. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Doing the whole play by play from beginning to end and then also yelling and cheering at the same time. I wouldn't. Like after after games one and two, bro, like I was hurting. Like my lymph nodes were hurting. Like I was in pain, bro. Like I was having to take Tylenol. And that's one thing that hurts me as a fan, though, is like seeing the non Jackals. The the you know, and I and I and I I I know some people at first hated the idea of the Jackals 'cause like, we don't need this. Why are we there was some animosity in the arena, you know? Yeah. Barry: Bro, how do you have a voice after that? I was gonna say. Shaun: Right Barry: Mm. Really? That's surprising. Joshua Jay Nieto: But as as the season went on, people have been a little more like, okay, this is cool. All right. But it is deflating to see with this series in particular, like there are a lot of Knicks fans because bec because the price and and they're loud because they're they can't afford I they I don't know if they can afford it or not, but why Yeah. Barry: Yeah. Bro, they're loud as hell on TV, bro. Yeah. Shaun: Cool. Barry: Well, it's just a smarter financial decision when you can fly and pay for tickets cheaper than when you're in your hometown. That's insane, bro. It's so insane. Shaun: Be at home. Joshua Jay Nieto: Exactly. Why why pay 10 grand in MSG when you can pay five grand in Texas and and get tickets like almost quartzide? Like you can get way closer. You can be like in in the in the trenches. And ⁓ so it but it is hard to look to my left and right and see Spurs fans just kind of ball watching and just like just watching the game like they're at home. And you got Knicks fans going bananas. It's like it's kinda like I just want to go up to each of them and be hey, like, come on. Like let's go. We we w this is Barry: Way closer. Hell yeah. Yeah. Shaun: Thank Barry: Yeah. Mm. Yeah. Match the energy, bro. Yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Like there's a war going on off the court. There really is. Because an MSG, but MSG is there's no Spurs fans there, bro. Like the numbers are like the there's none. Barry: I mean, it's turned into that, bro. Something my daughter was saying, she was like, I literally see no spur jersey. I was like, Why would you wear one? Like, after what happened? Joshua Jay Nieto: There's no, there's no, there's no people like the percentages are probably like 95% Knicks fans, 5% Spurs in that MSG. They're you're gonna get drowned out. In San Antonio, it's like 80-20, maybe even 75-25. And so, and then when they're all coming from New York and they're all I I I I give them credit, bro. The New York fans that I've seen in the Frost Bank are like every single one of them, it matches the energy of a Jackal. Shaun: you Barry: Yeah, for sure. Damn. Damn. Joshua Jay Nieto: So you got all these fans spread out around the arena being loud versus the Jackals in that in those three, four rows being loud. So we are literally outnumbered and it hurts. And I get it, bro. We're all human beings. Like the people that are selling their tickets and and Knicks fans are buying them, they probably pay they're probably paying, let's say they're paying two G's for their tickets. They can turn around and sell them for eight, nine G's. So you're gonna you're gonna profit 15 G's. Barry: versus the concentration of the one section. Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Shaun: you Barry: Damn. Make a lot of money, man. It's hard not to turn it down. Right? Just for two tickets. Shaun: Thank Joshua Jay Nieto: And you don't even and especially the situation we're in where they're like, Hey, Spurs probably ain't gonna win it. Let's just give ⁓ up. We can we can make eight, nine grand. You know what that could do for for different families? Dude, eight or nine G's for me? That's that's four that's four mortgage payments. Barry: a lot of money, bro. I was gonna say that's a lot of money, man. I mean, yeah. No, you ain't wrong, bro. It's and like we said, it's sports at the end of the day. And I mean, I think we're all three of us are probably pretty I mean, I don't know if we live up to the level that you do, Josh, but w we're we're broke for sure. But we're all s we we love we we support our teams. Like I've traveled to Boston a couple of times. ⁓ and we're down to make those trips and and to be there. But like you said, it's Joshua Jay Nieto: We're all pretty broke. Barry: can be disheartening when you're the home team and you don't feel like it necessarily. So Shaun: Well, and that was kind of like the idea behind the Jackals, right? Is to have it more of like the European environment and like have the crowd really into it and like build the hype around the arena. Barry: Like a cultural mm-hmm. Joshua Jay Nieto: hundred percent. Yeah, that that's the goal. And it and it's gotten better and better as the season's gone on. And ⁓ it it's just the toughest part is when when when the Spurs aren't doing hot and the arena goes cold, it's like it's like we're we're we're lighter fluid that's been rained on. Like it's it's a little watered down. ⁓ you know any arena is that way though. Like when team's doing hot or making a comeback or or kicking ass like it's live, you know? Barry: Mm. Mm. For sure. Joshua Jay Nieto: And ⁓ so we try to we try to raise the floor basically like when the moment when it's a down moment we try to keep it up a little, you know what I mean? And when it's hot, we try to make it hotter. But it's still because before I'm a Jackal bro, I'm a Spurs fan. You know? Like if the Jackals didn't exist, I'm still the same way. So I don't like to separate the two ideas because I feel like everyone inside, whether whether you like the Celtics or the or the Heat or whoever, like Barry: Yeah. Right. Joshua Jay Nieto: Everyone should have that fire in them to support the team that they support. And and there's also different levels of fandom, bro. Like some people like you may like the Celtics, but you you do just want to go sit down and be unbothered and have your beer and watch the game. And there might be the other guy that wants to go and hoop and holler and try to start a fight. Barry: For sure. ⁓ There are. Bro, yeah. No. You ain't wrong. No, there are different Boston is a crazy place to go watch a game. I will definitely say that. It is ⁓ and me and my brother went to the finals ⁓ in twenty two when they played the Warriors and we watched Steph Curry go off for forty six. And in that environment, bro, like even with the Celtics losing, the fans are still so hardcore, like just the F U Draymond chants, like I I Shaun: Boston somebody's got to fight. you Barry: Kinda to your point, I'm not that guy. I didn't like join in in it. It was just crazy to be a part of to literally have a whole crowd of twenty, thirty thousand people just concentrated on one person. Like I couldn't imagine that, bro. Like being that one person. Like that would be crazy. But nah, we all deserve it. But at the same time, it's a responsibility. I don't think I would cry, but it would definitely hurt a little bit, I feel. Even as secure as you are as an NBA player, bro, it would hurt. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Would would you cry? Right. F you Barry Barry sucks. Barry sucks. Barry: Like it would hurt at some point. Dude. Like straight up. It would hurt. Like I couldn't imagine. So now but there is a level there is a level that it has to stop at at the same time. Shaun: That's a good one. Joshua Jay Nieto: Bro, I I don't know. I would be the opp I I I would love that I'm like I would embrace that villain role, bro. I'd play better. Barry: I mean, I love going to the Spurs arena as a Celtics fan because it it does like I've had some really fun experiences just pushing, not pushing, but like, you know, verbally jabbing. Like me and my brother, we went to it is, and that's what I I've never felt unsafe in the Frost Bank or whatever it used to be, you know, the the all yeah, ATT. Like we literally watched one of ⁓ Manu last I went it might have been the last year is there, and he it was when they had Kyrie, when the Celtics had Kyrie. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, you're it's a safe place to do it though. Like no no one's no one's gonna beat you up over it, yeah. Shaun: May you Joshua Jay Nieto: A T and T Shaun: you. Barry: And bro, it was one of the most fun games I had ever been to because it literally went down to the last two shots. Like Ginobli put Spurs up by one and with like five seconds and Kyrie literally rimmed out, like hit every part of the rim but the bottom of the net. And we were just talking so much shit with this dude in front of us. And at the end, bro, we just you know, we dapped up h and hugged and, you know, said that was such a fun experience. So that's what I enjoy about going to these live events. And basketball is one of the only ones I really enjoy going to. Like football's a little slow. Ba baseball, like it's just I don't know. Basketball has a whole nother feel for me as a as a sports fan, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, I I agree. I agree. I've been to some I've been to a Cowboys game there in ⁓ Dallas Stadium. I've been to Astros game and and there's just nothing like ⁓ like a basketball, an NBA game. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: It's just so I I think it's the pace, like things happen from moment to moment that can just really like you said, it's like a it can bring the crowd up, down and it's just such a cool experience. So Shaun: you Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Barry: Speaking of controlling crowds, bro, how's how's life as a comedian, man? Joshua Jay Nieto: It's been good, man. It's been great. You know, I was a teacher for about six years. That's with s being a sub and being an actual like the classroom being mine. Barry: Like like I said, bro, he was my oldest fifth grade what was it, science? Social studies? That's what it was, math and science, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, it was ⁓ math, math and science. And ⁓ I love teaching, bro. I I did love teaching. Like I s I wouldn't even do it again. I just I I wa I was ⁓ and and I honestly my patience is is a little thin these days. Like I don't know if I could do it. Barry: You're better than me. I will never go back to teaching, bro. Never. ⁓ Well, once you get out of that world, bro, you realize what the real world is like outside of teaching and you're just like, Why did I subject myself to that? Why? Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. And and that I think that's part of it. Like I love being a comedian. I love doing it full time. And and it didn't just like I didn't just one day say, ⁓ I want to be a comedian. Like, well, I did, but but it took it took it took 12 years before I could finally make the leap to be like, I'm gonna do this full time. And ⁓ and it's it's not easy. Like the comedy life is probably like I would say maybe one percent or two percent of comedians actually can do it full time or that do it full time, like Barry: Nah, bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: 'Cause these days with Kill Tony and and just the way comedy is in general, like just in Austin alone, there's probably like two, three thousand comedians. Or that claim that claim they're comedians, you know what mean? And and there's another three hundred, four hundred in San Antonio, and another five hundred in Houston. And it's just like in Texas alone, there's probably like, who knows, fifteen thousand comedians. And and I and I'm saying that's from like open mic level to like people who are like touring and doing Barry: That's crazy, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Barry: Yeah. All trying to make it, man. Joshua Jay Nieto: comedy clubs and they're like a touring headliner, you know? And so I'm not a touring headliner just yet. I do go on tours and I do one nighters a lot, but you're not gonna see me at this moment hitting up the improv and doing all weekend. You know what mean? Like that's a whole nother percentage in itself. Like you gotta Barry: Yeah. Yeah. Is that kinda like how you get in is doing that kind of stuff? Like initially just getting your chops wet? Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, it's like it's it's like it's like where I'm at right now, and that's like the one nighters. You know, like for the say for example, and some months are hotter than others. And right now, since the Spurs have been going, I haven't been able to solidify bookings because I don't I don't I don't want to. Like I don't wanna end up on a Friday night somewhere when the Spurs are playing because one, no one's gonna come and two, I'm trying to be there. So, ⁓ but normally that's what it looks like. It's like I'm doing like ⁓ Barry: Yeah. Hm. Right. Trying to watch, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: A bar show on a Wednesday, ⁓ a resort on a Thursday, a comedy club on a Friday, like it's like individual one nighters mixed in with producing shows here in New Braunfels. So Barry: I'll say I've been we've been to w one of your shows. It's been a couple years, man, but it was a good one. It was ⁓ I think it was the Bad Teachers too or no. It may not have been. It was when you did the Kings and Queens Center. I went to one of ⁓ It was good. It was some good y'all had some good some good some good acts there, man. Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: Okay. Yeah, and I but that's what I'm that's how I make it, bro. It's just ⁓ you gotta s it's it's it I'm in the g I'm in like at the hustle grind level of a being a full time comic. Like I don't really get days off where I'm not thinking about it, where I'm not writing or creating content or trying to put together gigs in different spots. Like, ⁓ but I wouldn't trade it for anything, bro. Like I w I would rather be grinding it out doing this dream than to be like Barry: Yeah. Yeah. That's dope, man. Joshua Jay Nieto: Even though I love teaching, as a teacher, you're just like in the in that in those four walls and you're like there from seven to five o'clock and like that's your job and that's it. Like there's and especially as a teacher, there's no pay increase, bro. Like you gotta teach for like six thousand years to get like a fifty dollar raise. Yeah, you're not. So even though I I loved giving back to the community, like I enjoyed the relationships, like Shaun: Yeah. Barry: No bro, that's horrible. And you ain't I was gonna say you ain't getting shit at that. No. Shaun: Yeah. Joshua Jay Nieto: I I enjoyed recess. Like I love kicking ass at football. ⁓ bro. Yeah, bro. Hey, bro, I'm not kidding. Like we had recess, and every recess, like the the the female teachers would be like, Everybody line up. Everybody come line up, get in line. And I'm telling the boys, the kids, the guys, all right, one more play, one more play. Hail Mary play, hell Mary play. I'd always try to do it to where the score is tied at the I'd always shave points, bro. Shaun: What fifth grade is? It's crazy. Barry: Talking about a competitor, bro. He's out here embarrassing fifth graders, bro. Randy mossing him, bro, putting him on Sports Center, bro. Shaun: you Joshua Jay Nieto: I was worse than the NBA refs. I was always fixing games. I was always trying to make it to where it's tied. That way at the end of the recess I could throw a Hail Mary and like do a walk off Hail Mary and I'm like Bret Favre running down the running down the field. And it's crazy when it we'd go in after recess, bro, and I'd be sweatier than the kids. You know Shaun: Hmm. Barry: Out here fixing games, bro. Walk ⁓ off, bro, walk ⁓ off. Love it. Shaun: you Yeah. Barry: Get that work out in bro. Joshua Jay Nieto: Like the kids are all lined up at the water faucet and I'm there like drenched in sweat. Barry: Getting paper towels trying to dry off them s nasty ass damp paper towels. Glory days, bro. Glory days. Shaun: Go yard legend, Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, dog. The good old days, the glory days. But nah, well I wouldn't trade it for the world, bro. I love what I do and and it's been it's been dope. I actually have a show tomorrow here in New Braunfels. Yeah. Shaun: Hahaha Barry: I was gonna say, you got one tomorrow. We're recording. It won't air until a week after the fact, so unfortunately. But no. Missed it, bro. Y'all missed it. Joshua Jay Nieto: That's okay. Well, you guys, if you're watching this, you missed a badass show past Friday. But don't worry, I always have shows ⁓ Fridays. It's not every Friday, it's like once a month at Vicky's Hinterhof. So if you follow me at Joshua Jay Nieto on any social platform, that's TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, I could do a once a month at Vicky's and I also do a once a month brunch show on Saturday mornings. It's like a once a month as well. So you gotta follow me to s to get those dates and information. But Barry: Okay. Joshua Jay Nieto: I do a once a month brunch show on Saturday mornings at the Villa in Gruene Barry: Bro, mimosa's and chismosa. Let's go. Shaun: This was it, man. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah. Yeah, it's a that's a good time, bro. Those are really fun shows. People show up that have never been there, like, ⁓ we're really doing comedy this early in the morning? And and and people are getting people are drinking, right? People are getting hammered. It's they're starting off their Saturday right, mixed in with some jokes. It's perfect. Barry: Is there ever a bad time for comedy? That's dope, man. We have to check it out. ⁓ Beck was actually telling me about that. That ⁓ you and your brother put those on, man. We need to get out there and check it out for sure. Shaun: Great to do it. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, I have to get y'all out there, man. Yeah. Let's do it. Shaun: Thanks Barry: ⁓ what else? So you said monthly you do those two things? ⁓ any other big shows? I know spurs are winding down. Do you have anything in the works coming down the road? Joshua Jay Nieto: Spurs are winding down. I know I know for sure. June fourteenth, which is this will probably have aired already. I'll be in Kerrville, ⁓ with my buddy Hooter Moreno. June ⁓ seventeenth, I'll be in the valley. June eighteenth, I'll I'll be at South Padre Island. And June I think it's twenty fifth and twenty sixth, I'll be in New Mexico. So so yeah, that's what's going on recent. Barry: ⁓ damn, all right, okay. Shaun: Thanks. Joshua Jay Nieto: And then look look for shows coming in July and August 'cause I'm filling those up right now. Barry: Hell yeah. That's awesome, man. Man, I I'm happy to see you doing so well. I really am. I know like we kinda hung out when you were go you were going through it, kinda figuring shit out with your life. And bro, I feel like w we were actually out on the golf course. You're like, man, I'm doing this and he's done it, bro. It's it's impressive and ⁓ yeah. I hope people are out there supporting you, man. Joshua Jay Nieto: Thanks, man. Yeah. Yeah, and I appreciate you, man. I appreciate the support from from anyone and everyone, man. I can't do it without this even though as a comic you're up there alone, it it's like you don't you can't tell jokes to just empty chairs, like people people coming out and it's hard, bro. Like I'm I'm a human being too. Like I know what it's like. Like sometimes it's the weekend, it's Friday, Saturday, and I just want to stay home. Like I just want to sit in a chair and and just relax. So people that that take the time and make the effort and and and get the tickets and come out and Shaun: Yeah. Thank Joshua Jay Nieto: And enjoy it and become fans and do all that, man, that means the world, man. Cause without that I'm I'm I'm back in the classroom with a bunch of fifth graders. Shaun: Machanika Bhakti Barry: Like I said, bro, I don't wish that on anybody, unfortunately. 'Cause teaching is such an awesome career, man, but it's just and I can only speak for the state of Texas, but it's just not valued here, unfortunately. It does, yeah. A lot of that. And there's no, like you said, financial like incentive to really have the patience for other people's kids, man, unfortunately. Shit, my kids go to public school and Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, it takes patience, man. Shaun: Okay. Barry: I hope for good teachers. It's just it's a it's ⁓ it's a lottery, unfortunately. But ⁓ it it's tough out there for teachers, y'all. If y'all know a teacher, man, give ⁓ a specs card, give ⁓ a hug, something, bro. Help ⁓ out. Something. Make sure they're all right, y'all. Double check on your teacher friends, for sure. Now, give ⁓ something way better than an apple. I something, bro. There you go, for sure. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, a hundred percent. Thanks, Card. Shaun: Check on them, make sure they're good. Don't give them an apple, give them something better than an apple. Brown apple, there you go. Joshua Jay Nieto: Give ⁓ give him crown apple. Barry: Well man, Josh, we appreciate you stopping by. Like he said, man. Seventeenth, eighteenth, the Valley in South Padre. If y'all are out there, check ⁓ out. If y'all are out in New Mexico at the end of the month, man. Joshua Jay Nieto: Yeah, check me out. ⁓ the eighteenth is at ⁓ the Isla Grand Resort in South Padres. So check that one out. ⁓ for the for the seventeenth I'll be at the what's it called? The Cigar Society in ⁓ Far Texas. So check me out there. Barry: There you go. Hell yeah. For sure, man. Yeah, we'll put all your contact stuff on and when we publish this, so we'll have that available for all the fans here. For sure, bro. ⁓ anything else, man, before we say goodnight, bro? Shaun: So solid. Joshua Jay Nieto: Okay. Throw up my link tree. Shaun: You Joshua Jay Nieto: Nah, man, I I ⁓ it was it was I was it was a pleasure, you know, hanging out with y'all talking sports, chopping it up about everything and and ⁓ it was a lot of fun, man. I I look forward to ⁓ doing it again sometime. Barry: Appreciate you, man. Anytime you want to come on, man, we'd love to have you. We appreciate you. Bald enough to say it, bro. Shaun: Sure, man. God, I hate that. Joshua Jay Nieto: Bald enough to say it, right? I like it. Hey, where can people find y'all's content? Shaun: Yes, sir. Barry: Shaun, you got the voice.
