- 3:44And we're gonna start with a word of prayer. Dear heavenly Father and
- 3:51the precice name of your son Jesus. We thank you for this is the
- 3:55day that you have me and we will rejoice and be glad. We thank
- 4:00you for every gift and talent that you have given us. We ask today
- 4:04that you stir up those gifts and talents, give us creative ideas, give
- 4:11us dominion over the region that you have given us command over. We adore
- 4:17you, We love you. In Jesus' name, we pray a man and
- 4:20a man, and we're gonna start with a quote by Barack Obama. Change
- 4:30will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for
- 4:39some other time, we are the ones we've been waiting for. We are
- 4:46the change that we seek. And that was by Barack Obama on this week.
- 4:54I know that the month that the world gives us Black History Month is
- 5:01over, but I still want to talk about Black history, the hindsight,
- 5:10the foresight. In the insight of Black History, Solomon said, these there
- 5:19are three things which are too wonderful for me, for which I do not
- 5:27understand. The way of an eagle in the sky Proverbs thirty eighteen to nine.
- 5:35Eagles have excellent eyesight in the frontal setting of their eyes gives them excellent
- 5:44binocular vision as well as provisional vision. Eagles can turn their heads almost two
- 5:53hundred and seventy degrees while sitting or flying, and since their eyes are angles
- 6:00thirty degrees away from the midline of their face, they have a fill of
- 6:06vision of three hundred and forty degrees, very close to seeing all that is
- 6:14around. I want you to think about what this means for the eagles.
- 6:20Eagles have no predators that threaten them other than man. Because of their size,
- 6:30strength, and ability to see almost all around them, it is impossible
- 6:38for another animal to attack it with doubt being seen. One more fact about
- 6:45the eagles. Eagles are opportunists. Eagles will see another rapture till a fish,
- 6:53wait for it to return to its nest, and then swoop in and
- 6:59take the for itself. And the truest sense of the words eagles have hindsight.
- 7:06He can see all around its environment and understand what is happening. Insight
- 7:15its ability within to see an opportunity and act on it, and its foresight.
- 7:24It can see far into the distance physically. As you listen to this
- 7:32message this evening, remember the eagle. The title of this message is Hindsight,
- 7:44Insight and foresight The importance of history. This message is part of the
- 7:54celebration of Black history. Like I told you before, in the United States,
- 8:00we know that February is the month when we celebrate Black history. This
- 8:05event Raging Now originated originally began as Negro History Week in nineteen twenty six,
- 8:16and it took place during the second week of February as it coincided with the
- 8:24birth dates of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. In nineteen seventy six, the
- 8:33bicentennial of the United States President Gerald R. Freud Ford expended the week into
- 8:41a full month, and doing so, he said the country needed to seize
- 8:48the opportunity to honor the two often neglected accomplishments of Black Americas and every ever
- 9:01area of endeavor throughout history. While Black History Month has been criticized by both
- 9:09Black people and people of other races for its unfairness and devoting an entire month
- 9:18to a single group of people, there are lessons to be learned from remembering
- 9:24our history, especially as it relates to our faith in God. During this
- 9:31month, we had the opportunity to reflect on our rich history and remember the
- 9:39price paid by others for us to have the privileges that we have. Excuse
- 9:48me, Celebrating this month gives us the opportunity to remember the best of our
- 9:56history and culture while remembering that it is our history. I want you to
- 10:07really take some time and think about what we have and how we got it.
- 10:15Talk to some older folks and listen as they tell you what was available
- 10:20to them just sixty years ago and what they experienced back then. When you
- 10:28hear and understand their stories, you can hopefully appreciate more what we have today.
- 10:39As I said, we have a history and It cannot be remembered if
- 10:45we do not talk about it, if we do not teach little brown kids
- 10:52that they didn't all live in cages, and that they made some very that
- 11:01Black Americans have made some very important additions to society. That not all black
- 11:15youth are standing on the corner with their pairs hanging down, and those that
- 11:20are standing on the corner need to recognize and understand their history. They need
- 11:28to understand that how many, how much blood, sweat and tears was shed
- 11:37so they can have the opportunity to go to school, so they can have
- 11:43the opportunities to attend college that have their things that they want to be able
- 11:50to buy their Gucci bags and all the luxuries that we afford today. But
- 11:56we also need to look at what's happening in the world today. The world
- 12:05today is trying to put Black Americans back into the slavery area en ever,
- 12:13and they don't want kids to read about their history. And some states they
- 12:20have made it illegal to talk about slavery. Yet did yes. Just the
- 12:26other day I read about teacher who was read and acting the Roads of Parks
- 12:35story and she really had a little Caucasian boy handcuffed African American girl and they
- 12:45acted out the scene and when parents were outraged and calling the school, she
- 12:52said that that was just an idea that she thought of off the top of
- 12:58her head. But she's should have thought a little better to how people would
- 13:03respond to that betrayal of roads of parks that she had. There could have
- 13:11been another way that she could have taught that lesson, And from what I
- 13:16understand, the little African American girl was the only African American girl and that
- 13:24class. So it's important that we know our history. And as we're sitting
- 13:31around and coffee clutches discussing what's going on in the world, we can't just
- 13:39talk about what's happening. We have to be the change that we want to
- 13:46see. We have to be the solution to the problem. A lot more
- 13:54African Americans need to get involved in the political system because it's not set up
- 14:03for us, but it's set up against us that we can go to court
- 14:11for the same crime as a Caucasian person and that person will get less of
- 14:20time. I recall a story that an African American man and a Cacasian man
- 14:30was in the court at the same time and they had both made it the
- 14:33same crime, and the Caucasian man went first and he got let's say,
- 14:43six months, And so the African American man said he was thinking in his
- 14:46mind, oh, you know, we did the same crime. I'm gonna
- 14:52get six months. And when he was sentenced, he was sentenced to five
- 15:01to ten Now you gave someone for the same crime six months, and you
- 15:09gave the African American five to ten years. How is that fair? How
- 15:18is that? It's like instead of we take one step forward and then we
- 15:24take two or three steps backwards. Right now, we're gonna have a brief
- 15:33commercial break, and we will come back with this discussion of how important it
- 15:41is to look back, look around, and look ahead. A brief commercial
- 15:48break. The book A Song for Zipporah, written by David Harris, is
- 15:54a powerful historical fiction centering around the life and character of Moses's future wife Supporah
- 16:02before they met. Book author David Harris brings the reader into the relationship between
- 16:07Moses and Zappora, which was gradual and lush. The story unfolds beautifully when
- 16:11Moses finally acts Suppora to marry him. Purchase your copy of the book detailing

- 16:40back, Welcome back, and we're talking about Black history, and we're talking
- 16:45about hindsight, insight, and foresight. Let's review the definitions of hindsight,
- 16:55insight, and foresight. Hindsight is the ability to understand a situation or event
- 17:04after it has happened or developed. It's our ability to remember what has happened
- 17:15previously, which gives us the opportunity to learn from those past experiences. Example
- 17:22of this is someone learning from a past mistake. They experienced the failure,
- 17:30look back on it and learn from it. The process in learning from past
- 17:37experience gives us what we call insight. Insight is discernment, the ability to
- 17:45see clearly into the nature of a complex person situation a subject on sight.
- 17:56Insight actually encompasses both hindsight and foresight. Foresight is the action of predicting what
- 18:07will happen or what needs to happen in the future. It's the ability to
- 18:14see what is coming. Foresight moves us to action, and it makes sure
- 18:22we do not get too complacent or comfortable. It demands that we move working
- 18:30together. Hindsight, insight, and foresight allows us to learn from the past,
- 18:40adapt to the present, and plan for our future. Think of it
- 18:45like this. A person with no foresight, hindsight, or insight goes for
- 18:53a walk in the street. They see a car coming, they stay in
- 18:59the street. The car keeps coming, and they remain in the street.
- 19:06The car runs over them. They had no foresight, hindsight, or insight,
- 19:14which led them to get out the way of the car. When they
- 19:19get out of the hospital, they decide to go for another walk. This
- 19:26time. However, after getting run over by a car, they learn some
- 19:30things. First, they have foresight they know that cars move on the street
- 19:38and they should anticipate seeing them. Secondly, they have hindsight as they reflect
- 19:45on getting ran over by a car previously and taking precautions to ensure that it
- 19:53does not happen again. Lastly, they have insight as they decide the best
- 20:02way to go for a walk is to stay on the sidewalk. Now,
- 20:07these things three working instantaneous together keeps the person safe. But let me be
- 20:17clear, there are many people walking on this earth with no sight. These
- 20:22people see the car coming, get ran over by the car, and forget
- 20:29what it felt like the first time to get ran over, and continue to
- 20:36walk in the middle of the street, only to be run over again.
- 20:41If we're not learning from our past, we're like this person walking down the
- 20:48middle of the street repeatedly getting ran over by cars. Having hindsight, in
- 20:53sight, and foresight keeps us from constantly getting running over by life's circumstances.
- 21:03I want to share with you why understanding our history is so important, and
- 21:11doudrounding me for seven to ten. For what great nature is there that has
- 21:18a god so near to it as the Lord, our God whenever we call
- 21:25on him? Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgment as
- 21:33righteous as this whole Lord, which I am setting before you today. Only
- 21:38give heed to yourself and keep your soul dizaling, so that you do not
- 21:45forget the things which your eyes have seen, and they do not depart from
- 21:52your heart or the days of your life, but make them known to your
- 21:59sons and your grandsons. Remember the day you stood before the Lord, your
- 22:06God at Harem, where the Lord said to me, assemble the people to
- 22:11me, that I may let them hear my words, so they may learn
- 22:17to fear me all the days they live on the earth, and that they
- 22:22may teach their children. Now turn over to chapter six, and let's begin
- 22:29with verse six. We need to teach our history so that those who are
- 22:33enjoying the fruits of those who went before them understand the price that was paid.
- 22:41You see, there are many of us making good money. We never
- 22:45once picked cotton. We live in nice homes and mixed subdivisions, not on
- 22:52the other side of the railroad chap as the old people used to say,
- 22:57and we as treated as equals. Sometimes we do not remember the times when
- 23:03we are not allowed to own our own homes. We can eat at any
- 23:08restaurant when we choose, as long as we're willing to pay for it,
- 23:14and don't remember the signs that said go to the back door to be served.
- 23:21There are many of us who go shopping and try on all the clothes
- 23:26in its doores and do not remember the time when we were not allowed to
- 23:30try on clothes unless we purchased them first, and when we did purchase them,
- 23:37we could not return them. There are many of us who never vote
- 23:41because we never had to fight for the right to vote, because it was
- 23:47something already available us when we reached that appropriate age. It's important was lost
- 23:53on us. There are many of us who approach learning as if learning is
- 23:59are because we do not remember a time when blacks were not allowed to learn.
- 24:07There are some of us to this day dislike other races because we do
- 24:11not remember those other races who stood and died with us during the Civil Rights
- 24:19movement so that we could have everything we have access to today. And finally,
- 24:26and most important, many of us do not understand how real and important
- 24:33God was to our ancestors. They truly believed every word that He said in
- 24:42our history. But as we're celebrating black history, it's more than just remembering
- 24:49what happened during the Civil War. Member the Civil War Movement brought to the
- 24:55forefront the struggles experienced by blacks in America because of racism. But if we
- 25:02do not teach our children our history, they will never know that Sarah Bredlove
- 25:10Madam C. J. Walker was said to be the first black woman to
- 25:14be a self made millionaire, and today's dollars, her estate was worth eight
- 25:21million dollars at the time of her death in nineteen nineteen. They will never
- 25:27know of our contributions to the space program, as portrayed in the movie Hidden
- 25:34Figures. They will not know how doctor Shirley Jackson paved the way for the
- 25:41touchtone telephone, or how Maria band Written Brown, a nurse, developed the
- 25:49foundation for our current home security system. Nor they will not know any of
- 25:56this information because we are not made making them learn their history. We are
- 26:03all enjoying the fruits from the labors of others, just as Moses told the
- 26:07children of Israel they would do. We are forgetting the people who got us
- 26:14here. And again, what's really important is that we're forgotten, the forgetting
- 26:19the God. Our ancestors served with conviction, we believe, but not with
- 26:26the same focused dedication and commitments that our ancestors have. I know it might
- 26:33be hard for some of you to hear and or accept, but our understanding
- 26:38of our history is not the responsibility of the teachers in school. It's our
- 26:45own personal responsibility for us to teach our children their history. So they'll know
- 26:55that they came from greatness, that they will feel good about out themselves.
- 27:00A lot of children don't like to read because they don't see many characters that
- 27:08look like them. So if you remember anything that I said today, if
- 27:15you want to be the change, if you want to see change, you
- 27:19will have to be the change. You can't just talk about the problems that
- 27:26we're facing as a people, but you need to come up with solutions.
- 27:32Be active in the political arena, go out and vote. Teach your children
- 27:38when they come of age, to go out and vote. Not just say
- 27:44they're all the same. It doesn't make a difference that I vote. But
- 27:48we have to be very conscientious of the people that we're putting in office,
- 27:53because everybody is not for us, so we have to vote for the peace
- 28:00people that are for us. So on tonight, I just wanted to share
- 28:07a little bit about our history and being like that. And as I spoke
- 28:12earlier, now you're wondering, like, what does the ego have to do
- 28:15with this? But we need to have the sight of the ego. We
- 28:22need to be able to look all around us, look back at our history,
- 28:32look around us to see what is happening around us today and be able
- 28:41to look ahead to the future and see where we are going as our people.
- 28:52Before we finish on tonight, let's have a word of prayer. Dear
- 28:57heavenly Father and the precious name of your son Jesus, we thank you for
- 29:06our history. We thank you for the contributions that was made before us.
- 29:11God, God stir up in us the conviction to be unified as a people.
- 29:21Stop. Let the people stop black on black crime. God, in
- 29:26the name of Jesus, everything that our forefathers fought for, God, bring
- 29:32it back to our remembrance. God, so that we'll be the change that
- 29:37we want to see in this world. We thank you in Jesus' name.
- 29:44We pray a man and a man and a man, thank you. Thank
- 29:48you for coming on tonight. I will see you on March twentieth. Have
- 29:56a great, great night and remember share this video, comment like in share
- 30:03and this has been inspirational moments with me. Propt is t have a great,
- 30:12great night, Good night, God bless see you in two weeks.
- 30:21Oh, nursing nursing me. Ah, things ain't what they used to be.
- 30:32Where did all the blue Skys? But boys, the blots from the
- 30:38north to something well nursing, pursing ah. Things ain't what they used to
- 30:49be. No
