- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks. It'd be
- 0:12Speaker 1: follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on Iheartradiokay.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Oliver our UK corresponds with us Hello, Okay, Hello Heather. Right,
- 0:21Speaker 2: so there's a Cobra meeting today is the absolutely we
- 0:25Speaker 2: have obviously a big round of talks going on in
- 0:28Speaker 2: Downing Street at the time when UK borrowing costs hit
- 0:31Speaker 2: their highest level since the two thousand and eight financial crash.
- 0:35Speaker 2: The cost of energy is the big question here today,
- 0:39Speaker 2: tied up with this Middle East conflict, and we've got
- 0:41Speaker 2: the Governor of the Bank of England high level talks
- 0:44Speaker 2: and they are going to have to come up with
- 0:47Speaker 2: plans to stop prices soaring here completely out of control.
- 0:52Speaker 2: We've seen four petrol price rises, diesel price rises in
- 0:58Speaker 2: four in a week here here there, and it's just
- 1:00Speaker 2: literally getting quite quite scary for general households wore coping
- 1:04Speaker 2: with the cost of living here so high. On the
- 1:06Speaker 2: agenda today, we're going to have people the government talking
- 1:10Speaker 2: about petrol, diesel, household energy, food mortgages, how they can
- 1:15Speaker 2: stop the general rise that's going on here and really
- 1:19Speaker 2: calm some of the fears that are coming forward from
- 1:21Speaker 2: people as they've seen these tremendous rises as well as
- 1:26Speaker 2: the conflict that's going on the Middle East. And also
- 1:29Speaker 2: over the weekend we heard about the effect of perhaps
- 1:33Speaker 2: is the Israeli claims that long range missiles could hit
- 1:38Speaker 2: the capitals of Europe. So lots to talk about in
- 1:41Speaker 2: Downing Street today at this Cobra meeting. Have you guys
- 1:45Speaker 2: seen any of this panic buying that we've been seeing
- 1:47Speaker 2: in parts of the country. Well, they're trying to stop that. Basically,
- 1:51Speaker 2: they're saying we've got enough fuel here for the next
- 1:53Speaker 2: two months. But yes, people are being encouraged here. We
- 1:56Speaker 2: haven't seen panic buying, not the cues that we've seen
- 1:59Speaker 2: in previous years, but we have seen people keeping their
- 2:03Speaker 2: kind of cars topped up and I think it's a
- 2:06Speaker 2: panic buying that they're keen to stop before it gets
- 2:09Speaker 2: out of control. But with with four lots of price
- 2:12Speaker 2: rises in a week, I think it gives you some
- 2:15Speaker 2: idea of what's going on here. How can you explain
- 2:18Speaker 2: these attacks on the ambulance service, Well, it's it's happened
- 2:23Speaker 2: just in the last couple of hours here. It's basically
- 2:26Speaker 2: being viewed by police as an anti Semitic attack. They've
- 2:32Speaker 2: had four ambulances out of six operated by a private
- 2:36Speaker 2: Jewish company in Golders Green, lots of very very big
- 2:41Speaker 2: Jewish community there. They have been attacked, They've had they've
- 2:46Speaker 2: been firebomb basically oxygen cylinders have exploded. People living in
- 2:51Speaker 2: nearby communities evacuated Jewish community are saying it's an attack
- 2:55Speaker 2: on their obviously on a private ambulance service that they
- 2:59Speaker 2: run exclusively for their community. So these these ambulances have
- 3:03Speaker 2: gone up, the CCTV of three suspects running away, and
- 3:07Speaker 2: the Jewish community are now and faith leaders extremely concerned
- 3:11Speaker 2: about what's going on here. They have of course been
- 3:13Speaker 2: on high alert for many, many years, but this is
- 3:17Speaker 2: really the first time that this has actually happened in
- 3:21Speaker 2: London and very very serious for the Jewish community.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I can imagine.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Now do we know how Keir Starmer has taken the
- 3:32Speaker 2: Saturday Night Live sketch. Well, there's been a comment yet, Heather,
- 3:37Speaker 2: As you can imagine, it's the special relationship yet again
- 3:41Speaker 2: in question, if you've seen this Saturday Night Live sketch,
- 3:45Speaker 2: I mean, I really it's mocking, Sirkeir Starmer. Donald Trump
- 3:49Speaker 2: has reposted it. It's a sketch that basically is showing
- 3:53Speaker 2: our Prime Minister too frightened to answer the phone to
- 3:57Speaker 2: Donald Trump because he's scared to take a call about
- 4:00Speaker 2: what's going on with Iran war. He's basically talking to
- 4:04Speaker 2: his deputy David Lammy saying that what if Donald shouts
- 4:08Speaker 2: at I'm too scared to take the call. But you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: I think it's it's not probably going to help the
- 4:14Speaker 2: special relationship. But they're saying that Sir Keir Starmer is
- 4:19Speaker 2: perhaps he does take a stand against Donald Stump, but
- 4:22Speaker 2: Donald Trump, I should say, but whether forgive me, but
- 4:26Speaker 2: whether or not this is being seen as any kind
- 4:28Speaker 2: of strong stand is of course for everyone else to debate.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah too, right, Donald Dumpey. Kay, thank you very much
- 4:34Speaker 2: appreciated Kay Oliver, UK correspondent.
