- Lucas: Hey there. Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hi everyone! It is so good to be here again. Lucas: We are diving into two very common verbs today. One is about moving away from a place, and one is about arriving at it. Luna: Oh, I love those. The difference between leaving and arriving. Let's start with the first one. Lucas: The first verb is å gå. This means to go or to walk. Luna: Å gå. Okay. That sounds simple enough. Lucas: It is very simple. In English, we use 'go' for almost any movement. In Norwegian, å gå covers walking and going. Luna: Right. So if I want to say 'I am going', how do I conjugate it? Lucas: For 'I', you add -er. So jeg går. I go. Or I walk. Luna: Jeg går. Let me try that. Jeg går. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's make it a full sentence. A very common phrase is jeg går hjem. That means I am going home. Luna: Hjem. Home. Okay. Jeg går hjem. I am going home. Lucas: Yes. You say that when you are tired after work. Or when you just want to relax on the sofa. Luna: Oh, totally. I say that every single day. Jeg går hjem. But wait, what if I am not walking? What if I am driving? Lucas: Good question. Å gå is used for general movement too. If you are taking a bus, you can still say jeg går to the store. It implies the trip itself. Luna: Okay. So jeg går is versatile. I like that. It feels natural. Lucas: It does. Now let's look at the second verb. Å komme. This means to come. Luna: Å komme. To come. Is that also regular? Lucas: Yes. For 'I', it becomes jeg kommer. With an extra m sound at the end. Luna: Jeg kommer. Okay. Let me try. Jeg kommer. Lucas: Excellent. Now, a very useful question to ask someone is hvordan kommer du hit? How do you come here? Luna: How do you come here? Right. Hvordan kommer du hit? Lucas: Yes. And you might answer by saying how you travel. By bus, by car, or on foot. Luna: If I am walking, I would say jeg går. If I am arriving soon, I might say jeg kommer snart. Lucas: Exactly. Kommer du snart? means Are you coming soon? It is a great way to check on friends. Luna: Kommer du snart? Yes. I think I will use that a lot. Lucas: Let's pause here for a moment to talk about something important. Luna: Sure. What is on your mind? Lucas: Let's practice a quick scenario. Imagine you are leaving a party. Luna: Okay. I am leaving. So I say jeg går hjem. I am going home. Lucas: Correct. And your friend asks if you made it there safely. Luna: They ask kommers du sikkert? Do they say that? Lucas: They might ask når kommer du hjem? When are you coming home? But often they just say kom i hvert fall trygt. Come safe at least. Luna: That is sweet. Kom i hvert fall trygt. I like that phrase. Lucas: Now let's look at giving directions. This is where both verbs meet. Luna: Directions? Oh, I need those. I always get lost. Lucas: Don't worry. Go there. That is gå dit. Dit means to that place. Luna: Gå dit. Go there. Simple and direct. Lucas: Yes. And if you want someone to come to you, you say kom hit. Hit means to this place. Luna: Kom hit. Come here. Okay. Gå dit. Kom hit. Got it. Lucas: Let's repeat the main phrases one more time to lock them in. Luna: Ready. First one: å gå. To go or to walk. Lucas: And the sentence: jeg går hjem. I am going home. Luna: Second one: å komme. To come. Lucas: And the question: hvordan kommer du hit? How do you come here? Luna: And the command: gå dit. Go there. Lucas: Great job. These two verbs will help you describe almost any movement in your day. Luna: I feel much more confident about moving around now. Even if I am just walking to the kitchen. Lucas: Exactly. Practice saying jeg går hjem out loud today. Luna: And ask someone komers du snart? See how they react. Lucas: That is a plan.
