2:35
a pretty lively Charleston City Council meeting last night. I had the Mayor on
2:38
the show yesterday and there was this this resolution that was being sought by a
2:45
councilman to basically come out and say that during the week of regatta, that's
2:52
a lot of the well, let me let me just say that he this
2:55
particular councilman wanted some to be turned by the police departm when it came to
3:00
the homeless in Charleston, and so we'll get into that a little bit later

3:16
We want to talk some local politics here for a moment, not in
3:20
Charleston, but in Saint Albans. It's down the road aways. This gentleman
3:23
I have with me and studio this morning. He has been here before,
3:25
sim As Jared Page, very involved in politics here in Kanawack County, particularly
3:29
in St. Albans, and he joins us now, Jared, good morning,
3:30
welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, hey doing this morning.
3:34
I'm doing fine. Thank you for being here. Now. You got
3:36
kind of a big announcement that was made about twelve fourteen hours or so ago.
3:42
Right, Well, yes, sir, so I was recently elected to
3:45
city council in Saint Albans and last night was our first council meeting for the
3:50
newly elected council members, and I was unanimously chosen to be the city's vice
3:55
mayor, replacing Delegate Walter Hall, who had decided not seek reelection and focus
4:02
his time, energy and effort on the House of Delegates. So it's a
4:05
little it's a pretty good, big announcement. It's a big shoes to field,
4:09
but sometime I'm looking forward to and something I think that we can work
4:13
together with the current mayor, Scott James, who's done great things over the
4:16
last seven years to continue moving the city forward. Now, what exactly is
4:20
the role of a vice mayor? You said, delegate to Walt Hall held
4:24
in that position before. How long has that been a thing at Saint Altins
4:27
has it always been or is this something relatively new? What exactly does a
4:30
vice mayor do? So, it is something that has been in our charter
4:34
for since the beginning, so this is nothing new. This is nothing new.
4:38
So it's think of what the lieutenant governor ak the Senate president does.
4:43
It really has no real authority or power outside of in the absence of the
4:47
mayor or. If something were to happen to he or she, then the
4:54
vice mayor would step in until a new mayor is elected. It's basically you
4:58
can look at the the role of the lieutenant governor and it's very similar and
5:03
the only other power duty that it has as the arrayment abilities, which I
5:09
have an extensive experience being the municipal judge for the last three and a half
5:13
years and ultimately decided to step down from that position to take this position.
5:18
And I wish Kevin Pennington the best is our park superintendent. He's our new
5:23
municipal judge, was sworn in last night. We'll do a phenomenal job.
5:27
Now, as far as the duties, as you said, it's you.
5:30
I mean, we don't just want to say it's ceremonial, because because there
5:33
are things that times you're going to be asked to stand in for the mayor,
5:36
just like a lieutenant governor would, or just like a vice president would
5:41
or something. But do you get anything extra for this? Is this like
5:45
an extra little kick in the in the Does the charter provide for a little
5:47
extra money to serve in this role? No, But you know it isn't
5:51
just ceremonial like you say. It does help when we're recruiting businesses to come
5:56
to the city. It helps when we're meeting with various businesses and or meeting
6:02
with people. We've had an influx of you know, I know, you
6:06
know this. Our housing market in Saint Albans is booming. We cannot keep
6:11
houses on the market. I was just talking to a friend of mine had
6:15
to end up paying over twenty thousand dollars extra on listing prices to get a
6:19
house. And you know, so that title does help when we're meeting with
6:23
people to grow our city. And you know, that's something at Delegate Hall
6:29
did as well, and before he Desperate Leman, who was a mentor of
6:31
mine recently about two years ago, passed away of cancer. So it's something
6:38
that we can definitely use to benefit our city, regardless, you know,
6:43
if it's businesses or individuals recruiting them to come to our city. Talking to
6:46
Jared Page again, who is the Vice mayor now effective last night from the
6:49
St. Albans City Council meeting of the City of Saint Albans. The Day
6:54
Island Show in five eighty live brought to you part by a Husband's Pizza.
6:56
This month as your favorite Hustans, you can order any regularly priced large one
7:00
inch pizza and get a two leader of pizza at no additional charge. I
7:04
think there's a typo in that. I don't think it should say one inch
7:08
pizza. I don't think it should. I'm gonna have to go back and
7:10
take a look at that. With the folk subject, it's a it's a
7:13
it's a large one. I think that's supposed to be like a one b
7:15
a one topping pizza. And I have to get on. I'm gonna blame
7:18
Ron Hughes for that. You go right, I'm gonna I'm up totally blame
7:20
definitely the Colonel Ron Hughes for that, for that mistake. Not not not
7:25
a one inch pizza. It is kind of a big deal. I mean,
7:27
I would think, Jared, and you're a relatively young guy. I
7:30
mean never took compare to me. Everybody's a young guy. Uh but but
7:33
to that, your city council people would have the confidence in you just being
7:36
elected to city council, that they made you vice mayor, yes, and
7:41
that that was something going into it. I was unsure where some people stood.
7:45
And but I believe that I have an extensive even though I am younger.
7:50
Ah as you'd make the analogy you can have a brand new car but
7:54
have a lot of miles on it. And uh so, you know,
7:58
I've been very blessed to a pomplish a lot, you know, at a
8:01
relatively young age. I say that, and I can't walk because I have
8:05
knee pain and back pain and all that kind of stuff. Can't play golf
8:07
like I used to retired basketball player. But you know, I've worked with
8:11
our council a lot, even before I was elected as judge and during our
8:16
time as judge and I and I want to give a shout out and I
8:18
did this last time when I was on here to our court staff, Wendy
8:22
Ruez who's our municipal court clerk. She also steps in as judge during the
8:26
day to do arrayments. And donn' neil, who is one of our public
8:30
safety clerks for the Saint Oman's Police Department. Without them, we could not
8:37
have accomplished anything as judge as our court. You know, we had to
8:41
move with our new police station. I think I highlighted that the last time
8:43
I was on. And you know that they're phenomenal. We have a lot
8:48
of phenomenal people throughout the city. But my time working with council, I
8:52
established various working relationships and they know my work ethic. They know what I'm
8:56
about and what I bring to the table and what we can do to benefit
9:01
our city and have some different perspectives. Obviously, I've known the mayor for
9:07
many years. I kind of helped when he was first running his campaign.
9:11
Was my golf coach back in the day, and so it was something that
9:16
we got into the meeting and I thought I was going to have a competition
9:18
against a very formidable opponent who I like and respect a lot and really support.
9:24
But it was pretty much the sport was there for me and to move
9:30
the city forward, and that's why it ended up being a unanimous vote for
9:35
me in that position. I want to talk about some of the things going
9:39
on in St Albans. Of course you're just coming off the Yakfest toward Coal
9:43
a couple of weeks ago, huge, huge success. But there's a lot
9:46
of exciting things going on in sant Albans right now. You talked about the
9:48
housing market is booming, and that's pretty much the way it is everywhere in
9:50
the valley where you can't find places to live because people are coming in.
9:54
We talk about some of the things that's got you excited in St Albans.
9:58
Well, know, like you say about Yakfest, it's a It was a
10:01
great festival. There was thousands of people lined up on main street as well
10:07
as toward the coal. We had I think upwards of two thousand people on
10:11
the Coal River and uh, you know they're there. It's a great festival.
10:16
Those that put it onto the committee includes Adam Bryant, Dave Rutger,
10:20
Emily Wall, the mayor, and I'm not gonna name on because I forget
10:24
one. Somebodys we'll get up sandwich. Yeah, but you know, at
10:28
the end of the day, it was a great festival, great thing for
10:30
the city of Saint Amans. We have coming up the end of this month,
10:33
Dragon Palooza in August. I'm kind of conflicted on this mountain near Main
10:37
Street to celebrate West Virginia's uh first football game against my Pennsylvania State Nidney Line.
10:43
So we've been a penn State fan a lot of time, a penn
10:46
State fan my whole life. So everybody and give me a hard time on
10:48
that. And then we have our Train Days, which is sponsored by the
10:52
sant AM's Aeria Chamber of Commerce. I'm a board member of the Santum's Area
10:58
Chamber Commerce. We try to do great things with that train It's a great
11:01
festival for children to learn more about our history and about trains and and uh
11:07
come to this right there at the old train depot in Saint Aubins and then
11:11
the Fall You Off Chili cook Off. It's in October. It's it's been
11:16
a widely successful event goes to raise money for our police canine unit, and
11:22
that's coming up in October. And as far I believe, there will be
11:26
some pub Cross Hawleen Pub Crawl again coming up. I don't want to give
11:31
any dates on that. Sure, well we got out on that committee,
11:33
so by time that will be coming up, we have a lot of things
11:37
going on there. There's always something going on on main Street. The mayor
11:41
always says, if it's happening, it's happening at Saint Aubins, and I
11:45
think this is a testament to that. Obviously, you know, we have
11:46
to conceive the regard of going on this week, there's going to be a
11:50
big economic boost for the entire county, not just the entire region. Yes,
11:54
I mean again, people are if you you know, people coming in,
11:56
you know, from all over. I was listening to the mayor,
12:00
well, I had the mayor mayor a good one on the show yesterday.
12:01
But I was also caught her appearance on on Inside Politics with Mark Curtis over
12:07
the weekend, and she was talking about how many people come in for Regatta
12:11
from d C and Wheeling in all these different places. So it impacts Saint
12:15
Albans, it impacts nitro, it impacts Tayes Valley where I live. I
12:18
mean, it's all part of that. Before we let you go, we
12:22
do. I think you had a birthday thing that a shout out, and
12:26
he's our well two shoutouts. Actually, they're probably gonna get upset with me
12:28
that I'm doing this, but today is our current chief deputies for the Kennal
12:35
County Sheriff's Department, and he's our sheriff candidate that I heavily supported and helped
12:43
with Joey Crawford. He will be our next Kennall County sheriff. You can
12:46
say that he's officially unposed. Today is his big sixtieth birthday. Today I
12:52
have to give him a shout out, even though he's a swifty in Kansas
12:54
City chief fan. Uh I'm joking, I'm swifty part. And also coincidentally,
13:01
his mother in law who is listening, Mary Poland today is her birthday
13:05
as well, so they share a birthday and both are phenomenal people and people
13:11
I really respect and enjoy being around. So today is their their birthday.
13:16
So if you see them out and about, wish them a happy birthday today.
13:18
Now you have and this will be the last thing. I promise,
13:20
I'll let you go. You you have run for office before. I think
13:26
you ran for county clerk in Canaan County. You're a young guy. As
13:28
I said, you got you got plans for the future. I'm a believer
13:33
that everything happens for a reason, and whether it's good or bad, no
13:39
matter what you do in life, whether it's what time you leave, what
13:41
time you get somewhere, if you're late or early, everything happens for a
13:45
reason, and you can never plan early. Right now, my focus is
13:50
on helping the City of Saint Albans build and grow, making sure our police
13:54
department receives an adequate pay raise, you know, continue to grow our businesses
13:58
in the communeyity, and to continue our work on tearing down to lapidata structures
14:05
that we've we've accomplished over forty in the last seven years, to the LAPI
14:09
data structures down. So you know, my focus is on that can never
14:13
plan more than five minutes in the future. I never know what's going to
14:16
happen. So you know that's my focus right now, and I think we're
14:22
going to get the job done, or at least we hope to. I
14:24
always I always tell people do or do not. There's no try Star Wars
14:28
quote, and so we're going we're going to definitely do what we can to
14:33
make our city a better, better place to live. Working rightly, all
14:37
right. We did have a text here for you. Someone says, is
14:39
your new gig going to interfere with your future appearance in the lt O Invitational
14:43
golf outing. I have no idea what that means. Well, that's so,
14:46
I don't know where that's coming from. But the lt O is a
14:50
friend of mine that works for Congressman Carol Miller right now or currently is a
14:56
field representative work with me in the Attorney General's office in the past, and
15:00
I am a three time defending champion. I was unable to play in it
15:03
this year. Uh, there was this past Saturday for his birthday as a
15:07
golf trunk group of people. So it will not, it will not.
15:11
And uh, like I said, we're uh. At one time I was
15:13
halfway decent golfer. Mayor and Joey and the rest people tell you to a
15:18
test of that, but uh, that will not interfere down the road.
15:22
You're gonna make it happen. We will make it happen. We do.
15:24
Vice Mayor of the City of Saint Albans Shared page Man, I appreciate you
15:28

that you and the Commissioner Slango like to make fun of me on here,
15:37
so I just want to say, would he ever make fun of you?

good morning, Welcome to the show. Hello Brad, Oh, hi,
19:11
it is me and I heard the intro music and then nothing else.
19:15
Oh okay, are you hearing me now? If it is Dave Allen,
19:22
the host named after the Dave Allen Show, which came first, then I
19:26
do hear you? Okay, you know, yes, what is Suffice?
19:30
Brad? He could have just said yes, yes, okay, Happy early
19:37
fourth of July, Sir, any big plans for you in the family.
19:41
We are going to an amusement park on the fourth of July and are fearful
19:47
of the heat and the crowds. And then we have we have orientation for
19:56
my college going daughter coming off of the week, and so we have a
20:00
few plans sort of all piling up on one another. I get it,
20:03
I get it, all right, lead story. You got a wv metro
20:07
news dot com. The governor says, Brad, we got money and apparently
20:11
lots of it. Yeah, so, you know, on the one hand,
20:15
doing good. If I can just hit the rewind button a little bit,
20:22
just to recap YEP. One of Governor justices and the Legislature's major policy
20:29
accomplishments was, of course, a twenty two point two five percent personal income
20:34
tax reduction, So it would follow that the states over the last fiscal year
20:41
has been bringing in personal income tax dollars than it did previously, and that
20:48
is true. However, it mount was not as not as less as it
20:56
might have been. So, even base on Governor Justices the pretty low income
21:03
projections for the state, the state wound up the fiscal year eight hundred million
21:10
dollars or so up ahead of what those projections were. So the Justice administration
21:18
believes West Virginia is on target for an automatic trigger, which is a formula
21:23
that I cannot repeat to you don't understand. It's the magic sauce, but
21:30
it's based on some economic indicators and going to hit it. That's going to
21:36
result likely in another three to four percent income tax coming up, income tax
21:41
cut coming up next year. Governor Justice admittedly says his time is coming short
21:48
in office. He won't be there for the next tax cut to go into
21:53
effect, but he urged lawmakers yesterday to bite off. Even suggested he would
22:00
call them in for a special session not only to recognize the potential three or
22:07
four percent that's going to be an automatic cut, but to go for another
22:11
five percent on top of it. Don't know quite where that's going among the
22:15
allocators who have to actually make that decision. But that was Governor Justice's urge
22:22
to the lawmakers and attended yesterday. Well, one of those lawmakers is State
22:26
Democratic Party chair and Delegate Mike Pushkin. He's going to be along in about
22:29
ten minutes, and I know the State Democratic Party immediately issued a statement of
22:33
press release about it yesterday. We'll talk to Pushkin about that. A quote
22:37
from the governor here, Brad says, for God's sakes a living, don't
22:41
be afraid. That's what the governor says about about going off into these waters
22:45
of more tax cut special sessions. Direct quote, for God's sakes a living,
22:49
don't be afraid. Brad. Yeah. And so, I mean that's
22:53
easy for him to say, right because he will not be the chief executive
22:59
having to deal with the state's fiscal challenges. Next year. His term will
23:04
end and he is either going to be a US Senator or not, but
23:08
he won't be the governor anymore. That will go to it seems, unless
23:14
you know, unless something happens, either the Republican candidate Patrick Morrissey or the
23:18
Democratic candidate Steve Williams. And so I asked them via email I asked the
23:26
campaigns, what do you want to do about this? I will tell you,
23:30
Dave, it is an electoral season and it is probably not good politics
23:34
to say you're against a tax customers. However, each campaign in its own
23:40
way. I read into what they said, they expressed caution. Here's from
23:44
the Morrissey campaigns. Attorney General Patrick Morrissey has consistently advocated for reducing and ultimately
23:51
eliminated the income tax. He fully supports this initiative, but emphasizes the need
23:56
for fiscal discipline by avoiding large new spin measures. The four years end,
24:02
eliminating the income tax will incentivize work and significantly boost our economy and citizens standard
24:07
of living. So stable of approval from Morrissey, but you know, balancing
24:11
it with well, we can't really spend a whole lot more. And then
24:15
this from the campaign of Steve Williams, the Huntington mayor who's the Democratic nominee.
24:21
I'm all for cutting taxes, all right, check check that box.
24:25
And I've done it in Huntington while paving roads, improving infrastructure, and fully
24:30
funding benefits for first responders and others to do workers. All right. Now
24:33
here's the rub. The governor is going to cut additional taxes, I wish
24:40
he would present a plan for how he intends to do so while addressing our
24:44
critical shortage of teachers, correctional officers, and CPS workers. So you know,
24:49
that's what I read into each of those that they are accepting, who
24:53
are most likely to be the next governor accepting of this governor's proposal to further
25:00
cut taxes, but they'd like a level of accountability along with it, and
25:04
this current governor isn't going to be there to supply that accountability. Talk at
25:08
beginning with Brad mclahanny, and we've done away, Brad with the pop tax
25:12
the southern West Virginia and me, he will always call it the pop tax,
25:17
not the soda tax. Who done away with that too? Good job
25:21
by Jeff Jenkins on reporting that story after seventy one years, that tax is
25:26
in the rearview mirror. Paying for stuff is a funny thing. Are you
25:32
the soda drinker going to experience on your on your receipt the regaining of that
25:40
penny? It is not clear to me if you are going to regain that,
25:44
Dave. But you know, still a momentous event in West Virginia taxation
25:51
history. The governor's acting Revenue Secretary of Larry Pack, who is the most
25:59
like a person to be the next state treasurer in that he is the only
26:03
one on the ballot, was pretty eloquent in explaining the process of of how
26:07
difficult it is to get a tax off the books, especially when it's one
26:11
dedicated to a particular recipient. This was a tax meant to support the WU
26:18
Medical School, so it's been replaced by by other revenue and WV was not
26:23
going to fall short. But you know, you're you're gonna I think maybe
26:30
see I cannot guarantee Dave that you're necessarily going to get that penny, but
26:37
you can know in your heart that you are no longer being caxed your soda
26:40
pop before we let you go, Brad, anything more on the baby dog
26:44
Systeine Chapel controversy, you know, waiting to see there a couple of levels
26:52
of debate here. One is the governor's beloved bulldog appropriate for public art in
27:00
the most prominent public building in the state. But also who decided and how
27:07
did this come to be? What level of authority was there the governor and
27:12
his folks, particularly Randall reet Smith, Secretary of Arts and Culture, leaned
27:18
on some decision making but not apparently a final decision by the Capitol Building Commission
27:25
more than a decade ago, back at the tail end of the Mansion administration
27:27
the beginning of the Tomel administration, and then said that the final advice to
27:34
put baby Dog onto the mural as a form of wildlife came through some of
27:41
the Governor's Will and Pleasure employees who were acting as an informal committee that is
27:47
not in accordance with state guidelines. And so there has been some discussion by
27:52
friend of the program Harvey Payton and others about potentially challenging that process in in
28:00
the legal system. I have not yet heard of a case being readied or
28:04
filed, but I think it's an interesting question about whether that series of decision
28:11
making was unlawful and whether a challenge potentially could stand up in court. Well,
28:18
Brad, I appreciate as always you being here. Enjoy your time at
28:21
the amusement park. Get a corn dog for me, uh and uh,
28:25

29:11
yesterday morning talking about this, in my opinion, insane proposal that was put
29:18
forth by a councilman to basically stop the Charleston p D from enforcing the law.
29:26
Now, the resolution was put forth by counselman Joe Solomon to stop the
29:30
city from what he saw, I guess as the city doing arrest sweeps for
29:34
the homeless. And no, that's not the current politically correct term they want.
29:40
They want us to use the term unhoused whatever. But this proposal would
29:45
have, as I understand it, basically told the Charleston Police Department, you
29:48
cannot arrest people the week of regatta for breaking laws such as trespassing and outstanding
29:56
warrants so on. So now Aaron Parker has a story posted about it on
30:00
the websites this morning. Last year, Charleston p D made sixteen arrest around
30:07
the time of regatta and leading up to it, and the city was accused,
30:10
that is, accused of rounding up the homeless the week of regatta to
30:15
basically get them out of sight. Now, to my knowledge, there's no
30:19
proof that the city did that, and even if they did, more power
30:26
to them. But I will say as a caveat that they can do it
30:30
during regatta if that is what happened, they can do a year round anyway.
30:34
The resolution fell twenty three to one, and again you can read Aaron'
30:40
story about it posting online, with even the mayor vacating the podium to speak
30:44
against it. I will say personal opinion here, Good job Mayor, Good

Opening day of regatta is coming up tomorrow. We'll spend some time on
35:02
the show tomorrow talking about some of the events associated with the regatta, and
35:07
we'll get to that on the show tomorrow. State Democrat Party chair and Delegate
35:09
Mike Pushkin is here. Good morning there. I am was that Molly Hatchett?
35:15
He was just playing? But yeah, I remember seeing them, and
35:19
god, I'm fairly certain I saw them player Gott. I don't know the
35:22
year that they did play the regatta, ye, okay, so I'm not
35:23
imagining. I didn't dream it. I did see Molly Hatchett play at regatta.
35:27
I'm a big Molly Hatchett fan, Danny Joe Brown, and yet I'm
35:30
a Southern rock at you. All right, so let's get right to you
35:32
were listening to yesterday's show, Michael and you sent me a text saying and
35:37
I quote, can I come on to correct you soon? This was in
35:40
reference as opposed to my comments about the debate performance of President Joe Biden.
35:45
I am an open door to you, Michael most days on the show.
35:51
Really no offense, Dave. But have you on the show whenever you want.
35:53
If everybody agreed with you all the time, you wouldn't be doing your
35:57
job exactly exactly, all right, So we disagree I did, I can
36:00
do so we can agree to disagree with all right? So what did I
36:05
What did I get wrong? Well? I think it's not necessarily what you
36:07
got wrong. It's just where the focus has been. It's not just you,
36:10
it's many folks in the media. Yeah, of course I watched the
36:14
debate. You watched the debate. We all saw, uh, the same
36:16
thing. But my takeaway is, there's a difference between having a bad night
36:22
and I'll be honest, the president had a bad night. Uh. There's
36:24
a difference between having a bad night and being a bad person. And when
36:30
somebody gets up there and speaks quite confidently, but with all the confidence of
36:34
a Carnival barker, because every single thing, every single thing that they said,
36:38
and I'm talking about former President Trump. Every single thing that he said
36:43
was false. It was just blatant lie after blatant lie. That is hard
36:46
to uh, that's uh, that's hard to combat against. So I could
36:52
say, just the barrage of lies is really hard to You can't just you
36:54
can't fact check them that quickly. They're coming out. So and I and
36:58
look, no argument. The only thing, but the only thing that he
37:00
told the truth about I believe was that he was responsible indirectly because he well
37:07
actually directly he was responsible for overturning Row. But then he went on to
37:12
lie about that and said everybody supported that. Well, obviously not he was
37:15
not true. The Supreme Court wasn't. It wasn't. It wasn't. Over
37:21
didn't completely support it. But I mean, you admit that the Joe Biden
37:25
had a bad night. I mean you'll admit that, and it does happen.
37:29
It's people. He had a bad night. I don't think I saw
37:30
we should judge his entire administration by a ninety minute debate. But yeah,
37:36
he had a bad night. I think that fundamentally. Though President Trump is
37:39
a bad person I've never seen. I don't think anybody has seen a presidential
37:45
nominee from a major party who had to stand on the stage and say I
37:49
did not have sex with a porn star. He had a chance, you
37:53
know what, in all seriousness, he had a chance to say that under
37:55
oath, and he chose not to. You're not worried at all about the
38:00
mental capabilities of Joe Biden. I am way more concerned about the character of
38:06
Donald Trump, especially after what the Supreme Court had, the Supreme Court ruling
38:09
from yesterday that gives this blanket immunity to someone because their president. I mean,
38:15
we're coming up on the fourth of July holiday. Unofficial unofficial business?
38:20
Ye know what? Then? What what's the Lower Court calling? Is calling
38:24
an election officer in Georgia and saying find me more votes? Is that official
38:29
business? That was in some of the things I was reading last night that
38:31
would be considered unofficial business because he wasn't acting in his role as a president.
38:37
That's one report, right or wrong, that I saw last night.
38:40
I just think this this basically puts into into case law. What what President
38:46
Nixon said in an interview back in nineteen seven, the famous David Frost interviews
38:51
in nineteen seventy four when the president, President Nixon said, if the president
38:55
does it, it's not illegal. Well, nobody believes that except the Supreme
39:00
Court judge wish for because you know that you better be careful what you wish
39:08
for, because this is for presidents regardless of party. So keep that in
39:15
mind. I think that's why that's what makes the choice so clear for me,
39:17
because it's about character. And yeah, sure, President Biden sometimes searched
39:22
for words. He was he had a very bad night, and and President
39:28
Trump lies very well, and I think he has a serious, serious character
39:32
issue. No, with that kind of of unbridled power that the Supreme Court
39:37
just gave the president, we should not trust a man like Donald Trump in
39:40
that position. He will abuse it. He has before. The case was
39:45
Trump the the United States. That's what they were ruling on. And you
39:49
are again going, I'm going I'm going to go back to Biden again.
39:52
You are still riding with Biden as they say you are. You're one hundred
39:55
percent. There's no chance in your head that at the the open Convention,
40:00
which I'm presuming you will be there, it's not going to be an open
40:05
You think that they stick with Biden. No, matter what. Yeah,
40:07
I think it's very unrealistic to think otherwise. We haven't had an open convention
40:10
in our lifetime. Well have you ever? We've never? Well no,
40:15
But I think how we do things. We have a democratic process with the
40:17
winner of the primaries, whoever gets the most elected delegates and Democratic Party.
40:23
We don't the automatic delegates like me that they used to call super delegates.
40:28
We don't vote on the first ballot. It is the elected delegates, delegates
40:30
who are pledged to President Biden. And he won every primary thus far overwhelmingly.
40:36
And that's because of his record. That's because he brought us out of
40:38
the pandemic through passing the American Rescue Plan, which sent money directly to counties
40:44
and municipalities, local governments, and surpassed states where you might have a governor
40:49
that holds up the relief money to have a baby dog truck sweepstakes. Hypothetically,
40:53
of courseithetically, so, Yeah, he passed the American Rescue Plan.
40:57
He was able to pass the infrastructure bill. Some Donald Trump could only talk
41:00
about every other week, we're going to have infrastructure. We couldn't get it
41:04
done. President Biden got the infrastructure bill done. That's helped us immensely here
41:07
in West Virginia. He took care of our veterans by passing the pac Act
41:10
that recognized mistakes that were made fifty years ago and ignoring the what Agent Orange
41:15
has done to our our men and women who served overseas and I'm sorry,
41:22
and more recently and more recently with the burn pits and what that's done to
41:24
our veterans in more recent years. While Trump, on the other hand,
41:29
calls veterans what suckers and losers. Get no argument for me on any of
41:35
this. I'm going on other reasons. Why why why Biden overwhelmingly has the
41:43
support that he has the Inflation Reduction Act, which we've seen disproportionate, uh
41:50
help here in West Virginia. Investment here in West Virginia. Do that bill,
41:53
whether it's form Energy or New Core or down here where the Lift center,
41:59
it's going in on the extent all these all this investment coming into West
42:01
Virginia, it's not because of Jim Justice and Baby Dog. It's because of
42:07
a federal policy that came out during the first two years of Biden. Here's
42:10
let's probably I'll say this about Biden and we'll move on because I want to
42:13
talk about some state stuff here, especially with the governor and the announcement about
42:15
the surplus yesterday. One thing that I will say though, that I think
42:20
with the one area that I think that President Biden struggles greatly and is you
42:23
know, he came back on Friday during the I guess was a campaign event,
42:27
and he sounded pretty good last night. If you saw the press conference
42:30
that he did when he came out and addressed the Supreme Court decision, didn't
42:35
take questions from the reporters. They were yelling. He basically said his five
42:38
minutes and left. I think the President has a really really difficult time Mike
42:43
on on free flow, on being on improv and just coming out there and
42:49
speaking when it's not prepared. Uh. Let me trust him to make the
42:52
correct decisions. I trust him to hire the right people, and I tru
42:55
basically I trust him. I do not trust and could never trust somebody like
43:00
Donald Trump, who had to stand on a stage to say he didn't have
43:04
sex with a porn star. Yeah, a whitey pay off, tex says
43:07
Dave. Mike Pushkin could back and sponsor a dummy doll as long as it's
43:10
in the Democratic Party, Mike, please quit this nonsense. Tex says,
43:15
really, Trump told lie after lie. No Democrat ever mentioned this guy's bs
43:20
and it's pictures of the of the lies or the missteps, if you will,
43:25
of Biden during the debate that came from CNN Texas that the president can
43:30
have absolute immunity as an executive ken governors not, according to the Supreme Court,
43:34
Texas false, Dave. Core presidential duties get absolute immunity. Acts of
43:37
the outer perimeter of official duties get presumptive immunity. Core presidential powers include pardon,
43:43
commanding, military, counter terrorism, and the others. The president can
43:45
designate you a terrorist and despatch a hit squad and he's immune. There is
43:50
no question, because counter terrorism is a core presidential power. I'm more concerns
43:55
as a texture that a president who has a son he says he loves more
44:00
than anything and has been affected by drugs continues to allow drugs to come into
44:04
this country. That should have been his platform from the beginning of his presidency.
44:07
Shut down the border. Character really says a texture the guy who took
44:13
showers with his own daughter, which he was fourteen. That's been refuted by
44:15
the way it read well, because I jump in for a second. Yet,
44:21
when people try to normalize, when people in the media have been doing
44:23
it for years, they've normalized Trump. There's absolutely nothing normal about his about
44:29
his presidency, about his candidacy right now, and about that ruling yesterday that
44:34
gives a guy who could possibly give a person like that with absolutely with the
44:38
you know, absolutely no moral compass. What the president called it, the
44:44
morals of an alley cat. That's one line. He definitely got right to
44:46
give him this blanket immunity as president. We're in seriously dangerous times, and
44:53
I think it's wrong to normalize it and act like, well, both sides
44:57
do it. No, both sides haven't done what Donald Trump has done.
45:00
Well, oneybody's called up an elections officer and asked him to find more votes.
45:04
One said. The text here says nothing says democratic like keeping Kennedy off
45:07
the primary ballot, force fitting the vegetable into the pole position, prosecuting the
45:12
leading candidate of the opposition party, and mass incarcerating is support with the first
45:16
live. Nobody kept Kennedy switch to independent. That was his choice, he
45:21

47:46
sir, working on behalf of the Democrat Party in West Virginmocratic Party.
47:51
Democratic Party very critical of the governor's balloon party yesterday about the surplus. The
47:57
issued a press release about it. What's the what's the deal? Man?
48:00
We got more money coming. It was a publicly funded campaign event. Let's
48:02
let's face it, it's an election year. The governor's more interested in his
48:07
next office that he won't show up up at rather than the office that he
48:10
hasn't shown up for over the past eight years. Yeah, it was.
48:15
You know, he had a balloon drop and a big fake ribbon cutting a
48:19
giant check. Look, everybody, you know, nobody likes paying taxes.
48:22
I don't like paying taxes. You don't like paying taxes. When at all
48:24
possible, we should try to give taxpayers their money back. But the problem
48:29
is they're basic, basic services that just aren't being met. And I don't
48:32
think anybody could could argue when we hear story after story about the tragedies happening
48:37
with our overburdened foster care system. Six thousand children or more more in the
48:42
system, some being dropped off at hotels or campgrounds because there's not enough placement,
48:46
not enough CPS workers to check on reports that come in, and we
48:51
hear this horrible story about these children being treated like slaves of system built drive,
48:54
or we hear about a girl being starved to death. So basic services
48:58
aren't being met, and people are offering people with disability suffering. There's a
49:01
weight list to get to the IDD waiver program. And once they're off the
49:06
weight list, well, who's going to help them? Because they didn't the
49:07
Department failed to increase the rates in time for the fit by the end of
49:12
the fiscal year, so we can actually get people working in that profession.
49:15
We don't have enough teachers in the classroom. All these basic services are failing.
49:20
So I'm sorry if I'm not impressed with a balloon drop and a ribbon
49:23
cutting. You know, you know, children in foster care, people who
49:27
have loved ones with the intellectual developmental disability, seniors who haven't seen a cost
49:32
of living adjustment in years. I don't think they'd give jack squat about the
49:36
governor's balloon drop and ribbon cutting yesterday. What about a special session? The
49:39
governor says he's going to call you guys back in probably August or so and
49:44
ask ask for more of a cut. Well, what we should focus on
49:47
is shut the childcare. And he did pay lip service to that. Said
49:51
he won his childcare bill, which would allow for a tax credit to help
49:55
to help offset the cost of childcare. And that's fine, of course we're
49:59
going to worth that, but if that's only part of the equation, there's
50:02
not accessibility to childcare. The agencies are closing down because of the the way
50:08
that they calculate the reimbursement rates, and that's what we need to address.
50:13
If we if we're so flushed with money, which I don't I think is
50:16
an exaggeration, then we need to actually do some work, I mean knock
50:22
out some text here. Tex says, I am not smelling what might Pushkin
50:25
is smoking. You don't smoke anything. Tech says, how can push can
50:30
not admit the Bidens are the true criminals. The evidence is unbelievable. To
50:34
the name one piece of evidence, one piece of evidence. What law has
50:37
been broken? The evil power sick Kennedy family says the text to who loll
50:43
bottomized Rosemary as an inconvenience has uniformly distanced themselves from RFK Junior son. That
50:47
should be all anyone you would do. No I even read something so insane
50:53
because it's free. But it's free speech. Man. Come on, come
50:58
on, I said, like Biden, Now come on, man. Tex
51:00
says, to continue to Biden character traits, sexually assault charges, lied about
51:04
not losing soldiers, look at his watch while the flaggrip coffins of thirteen soldiers
51:09
died because of him, lies over and over. The son died in Iraq
51:13
and stuff is why Democrats they have no credibility at all. Science one who
51:16
left the Democratic Party in two thousand and two never said that his son died
51:21
and his son got cancer, probably from being exposed to burn pits. And
51:25
then the president stepped up and actually got a bill passed to address that,
51:30
not just about the burn pits, but all the way back fifty years ago
51:34
to address probably happen with agent orange. And that's commendable. Meanwhile, on
51:39
the other side, you have a president that couldn't show up for a d
51:44
DA ceremony one year because he didn't want to get his hair messed up and
51:46
called them suckers and losers, and generals heard him say that, and he
51:52
said it Texas, how in the world are we going to get people back
51:54
to the Democrat Party in West Virginia when the state chairman continually down's dog to
51:59
try to destroy West Virginia's most popular political candidate ever in Trump let it be
52:04
mister Pushkin thirty seconds. Well, I sleep well at night. I know
52:07
that I'm on the right side of history. And what didn't we get mentioned
52:12
before the reason you can't normalize his behaviors because never in history we have a
52:15
president who refused to accept election results and instead incited an insurrection at our nation's
52:22
capital to try to stop the peaceful transfer of power. We've never seen anything
52:28
like that. That's not normal. It should never be normal, and he
52:30
shouldn't have immunity. Have a happy independence holiday. It might be fourth of
