- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, the place where stronger
- 0:03lives are built, faith is strengthened, hearts
- 0:06are encouraged, and Christ -centered lives are
- 0:09shaped through ordinary conversations that become
- 0:12extraordinary encounters with God's truth. I'm
- 0:16your host, Barry Mwamba. There is a question
- 0:19that has stayed with me for quite some time.
- 0:23Why do faithful Christians go through difficult
- 0:26seasons? I don't mean people who are running
- 0:29away from God. I don't mean people who have completely
- 0:33abandoned their faith. I'm talking about believers
- 0:36who sincerely love God, who pray, who seek Him,
- 0:41who desire to obey Him, and yet still find themselves
- 0:45walking through valleys they never expected.
- 0:49Why? Have you ever noticed that almost every
- 0:52great servant of God experienced a season like
- 0:56that? Joseph did. David did. Daniel did. Paul
- 1:00did. Even Peter did. None of them were strangers
- 1:04to hardship. Yet when we read their stories carefully,
- 1:08we discover something fascinating. Not every
- 1:11valley in the Bible has the same purpose. That
- 1:15realization changed the way I read scripture.
- 1:18And perhaps, it will change the way you understand
- 1:21your own life. because I believe there are at
- 1:25least two kinds of valleys that believers experience.
- 1:29The first valley is the one God uses to bring
- 1:32us back to Him. The second valley is the one
- 1:36God uses to prepare us for something greater
- 1:39than ourselves. Those two valleys may look similar
- 1:43from the outside. They both involve pain. They
- 1:47both involve uncertainty. They both involve tears.
- 1:52but they are completely different in purpose.
- 1:55And if we fail to recognize the difference, we
- 1:58may misunderstand what God is doing in our lives.
- 2:03Let's begin with the first one. The first valley
- 2:07is what I would call the valley of positioning.
- 2:12There are seasons when life suddenly shakes us,
- 2:15not because God has rejected us, but because
- 2:19we have slowly drifted away from Him Sometimes
- 2:22it happens through sin. Sometimes through pride.
- 2:27Sometimes through success. Sometimes simply because
- 2:30life became so busy that our relationship with
- 2:34God quietly moved to the background. Then something
- 2:37happens. A storm. A disappointment. A loss. A
- 2:42crisis. And suddenly, the very thing we thought
- 2:47was destroying us. becomes the thing that brings
- 2:50us back to God's presence. Think about the prodigal
- 2:54son. It wasn't comfort that brought him home.
- 2:57It was famine. Think about Jonah. It wasn't the
- 3:01calm sea that changed him. It was the storm.
- 3:04Think about Israel throughout the Old Testament.
- 3:07Again and again, when they drifted from God,
- 3:11adversity became an invitation to return. That
- 3:15is why I love what God says in Second Chronicles
- 3:18714. He doesn't begin with healing. He begins
- 3:22with relationship. If my people will humble themselves,
- 3:27pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked
- 3:31ways, only then does he say, then I will hear,
- 3:36forgive, and heal. Did you notice that? Healing
- 3:41was never the first step. Returning was. God
- 3:45first restores our position before He changes
- 3:47our circumstances. But here's where the conversation
- 3:52becomes even more interesting. What about people
- 3:56who have already returned? What about believers
- 3:59who are intentionally walking with God? Not perfect,
- 4:04because none of us are. But sincere. People who
- 4:08love Him. People who quickly repent. people who
- 4:12desire holiness, people who have made God their
- 4:16dwelling place. Why do they still walk through
- 4:19valleys? Now we have entered a completely different
- 4:23conversation because this second valley is no
- 4:27longer about positioning. It is about alignment.
- 4:32And I believe this is where Psalm 91 begins.
- 4:38Not because David had never experienced difficulties.
- 4:43Not because he had never known fear. Not because
- 4:45he had never cried. But because by the time David
- 4:49wrote those words, he had already learned something
- 4:52about walking with God. He had discovered that
- 4:55there is a difference between knowing God and
- 4:58dwelling with God. I find that fascinating. Because
- 5:01David is no longer talking about someone trying
- 5:04to find God. He is talking about someone who
- 5:08has already made God his home listen to how he
- 5:12begins he who dwells in the secret place of the
- 5:15most high he doesn't say he who visits he doesn't
- 5:19say he who remembers God when life becomes difficult
- 5:24he says he who dwells that word stayed with me
- 5:29because dwelling is much more than believing
- 5:32it is much more than going to church It is much
- 5:35more than praying from time to time. Dwelling
- 5:38is choosing to build your entire life around
- 5:42the presence of God. It is waking up every morning
- 5:45saying, Lord, I don't want to live this day without
- 5:49you. It is learning to recognize the voice of
- 5:53the Holy Spirit. It is becoming intentional about
- 5:56repentance, intentional about forgiveness, intentional
- 6:01about sanctification. Not because we are perfect,
- 6:05because we are not. But because we have discovered
- 6:08there is no safer place than living close to
- 6:12God. And maybe that's why this second valley
- 6:17feels so different. Because God is no longer
- 6:21trying to bring me back. I'm already walking
- 6:23with Him. I'm already depending on Him. I'm already
- 6:27seeking Him. So if He's not bringing me back,
- 6:31what is He doing? That question stayed with me.
- 6:35Because when I looked at Joseph, I couldn't find
- 6:38a man running away from God. When I looked at
- 6:42Daniel, I couldn't find compromise. When I looked
- 6:45at David in the cave, I didn't find rebellion.
- 6:49When I looked at Paul in prison, I didn't find
- 6:52disobedience. What I found were men who had already
- 6:57made God their dwelling place. And suddenly,
- 7:01Psalm 91 made sense to me. The promise isn't
- 7:05given to people who occasionally seek God. The
- 7:09promise belongs to people who have decided I
- 7:12would rather lose everything than lose his presence.
- 7:17Now think about that. If these men were already
- 7:20dwelling, if they were already aligned, why didn't
- 7:24God simply keep them away from trouble? Why Joseph's
- 7:28prison? Why David's cave? Why Daniel's lions?
- 7:32Why Paul's chains? That is where I believe the
- 7:36greatest discoveries begin, because perhaps the
- 7:40purpose of this valley is no longer to change
- 7:43my position. Perhaps God is preparing me for
- 7:49something my present eyes cannot yet see. So
- 7:55if these men were already dwelling, If they were
- 7:58already aligned, why didn't God simply keep them
- 8:02away from trouble? Why Joseph's prison? Why David's
- 8:06cave? Why Daniel's lions? Why Paul's chains?
- 8:11That question stayed with me, because if these
- 8:14men loved God, if they sincerely walked with
- 8:17him, why would he allow them to enter valleys
- 8:21that seemed completely unnecessary? Then I started
- 8:25noticing something. The valley wasn't the problem.
- 8:29The battle wasn't the problem either. The real
- 8:32battle was spiritual long before it ever became
- 8:36physical. Paul says something that I think we
- 8:40often read too quickly, for we wrestle not against
- 8:44flesh and blood. I've read that verse many times,
- 8:48but this time I stopped because Paul wasn't just
- 8:53explaining where the battle takes place. He was
- 8:56explaining why faithful believers don't respond
- 8:59the same way everyone else does. Most people
- 9:02only see the physical battle. They see the prison,
- 9:07the accusation, the betrayal, the sickness, the
- 9:10loss, the injustice, the fire, the lions. But
- 9:15God sees something much deeper. He sees a spiritual
- 9:20battle long before it ever appears in the natural.
- 9:23And maybe, That's why he prepares his people
- 9:26before they even know a battle is coming. Have
- 9:28you ever noticed that? Before Moses ever stood
- 9:32before Pharaoh, God had already called him at
- 9:36the burning bush. Before David ever became king,
- 9:42God had already anointed him. Before Peter stood
- 9:45before rulers, Jesus had already told him, don't
- 9:49worry about what you will say. because the Holy
- 9:52Spirit will speak through you. Before Paul reached
- 9:56prison, God had already told him he would testify
- 10:00before kings. God always seems to prepare his
- 10:04people before the battle begins. Then another
- 10:08thought came into my spirit. Maybe that's because
- 10:12God never enters the battle after we do. Maybe
- 10:16he was already there. That thought overwhelmed
- 10:19me. Because if God is already there, then nothing
- 10:23catches him by surprise. Nothing. Not the accusation.
- 10:27Not the betrayal. Not the valley. Not the prison.
- 10:31Not the fire. Not the courtroom. Nothing. We
- 10:35are often surprised God never is. Then my mind
- 10:39immediately went to the fiery furnace. Think
- 10:43about that story for a moment. The king ordered
- 10:46the furnace to be heated seven times hotter.
- 10:49The soldiers who brought Shadrach, Meshach, and
- 10:52Abednego to the furnace died because of its heat.
- 10:56The fire was doing exactly what fire naturally
- 10:59does. It burned. It killed. It consumed. Nothing
- 11:05had changed about the fire. Yet the moment those
- 11:09three faithful men entered, everything changed
- 11:12for them. Not because the fire stopped being
- 11:15fire. but because the presence of God entered
- 11:19before the fire could accomplish its purpose.
- 11:22When the king looked again, he expected to see
- 11:26three men dying. Instead, he saw four men walking,
- 11:31walking, not crawling, not screaming, walking.
- 11:35And that's when something became very real to
- 11:38me. God had already preceded them into the furnace.
- 11:42He wasn't rushing toward them after they entered.
- 11:45He was already there. Waiting, preparing, protecting.
- 11:50The enemy prepared a furnace. God prepared his
- 11:54presence. And perhaps, that's exactly what Psalm
- 11:5991 is trying to teach us. Protection doesn't
- 12:02mean the fire disappears. Protection means the
- 12:06fire loses its authority. The water doesn't disappear.
- 12:10It loses its authority. The valley doesn't disappear.
- 12:14It loses its authority. Death itself doesn't
- 12:18disappear. It loses its sting. The weapon is
- 12:22still forged. It simply does not prosper. Do
- 12:26you see the difference? The miracle is not always
- 12:30that God removes the battle. The miracle is that
- 12:34the battle can no longer produce the outcome
- 12:36the enemy intended. And suddenly, David's words
- 12:40became much more personal to me. He is my refuge
- 12:44and my fortress. A refuge only makes sense if
- 12:49danger exists. A fortress is only necessary if
- 12:53someone is attacking. David wasn't pretending
- 12:56danger wasn't real. He was declaring that God's
- 13:00presence was greater than the danger. And I wonder
- 13:04if that's exactly what God has been trying to
- 13:07teach his people all along. Not to become fascinated
- 13:11with the battle, but to become confident in the
- 13:15God who has already gone before them. Because
- 13:18maybe, while we are still asking God where He
- 13:22is, He has already entered tomorrow. He has already
- 13:27prepared the answer. He has already limited the
- 13:31fire. He has already declared that the weapon
- 13:34will not prosper. And he has already begun writing
- 13:39a testimony that we cannot yet see. And I think
- 13:46that's where David's cave begins to make sense.
- 13:50Because while David thought he was hiding, God
- 13:53was already moving. Have you ever thought about
- 13:56that? Imagine David sitting inside the cave of
- 14:00a dullum. He has just escaped Saul. He's exhausted.
- 14:05discouraged. He has lost his position, his reputation,
- 14:09his home, his certainty about tomorrow. If you
- 14:12had walked into that cave and asked David, what
- 14:15do you think God is doing right now? I wonder
- 14:18what he would have answered. Maybe. Nothing.
- 14:23Maybe. I don't know. Maybe. I'm just trying to
- 14:29survive another day. But while David was sitting
- 14:32in that cave, God was already doing something
- 14:35David could not see. Somewhere outside that cave,
- 14:39God had already started moving hearts. 400 men,
- 14:44men from different places, different backgrounds,
- 14:48different stories, were already on their way.
- 14:52David didn't know them. He hadn't invited them.
- 14:56He wasn't recruiting an army. He wasn't making
- 14:59phone calls. He wasn't building a kingdom. God
- 15:03was while David was crying inside the cave. God
- 15:07was gathering people outside the cave That is
- 15:10incredible David thought he was waiting on God
- 15:14The reality was that God had already begun working
- 15:19long before David realized it and I started asking
- 15:23myself How many times has God been doing exactly
- 15:27the same thing in our lives? How many times have
- 15:30we prayed? Lord, where are you? While heaven
- 15:34was already moving, how many times have we mistaken
- 15:38silence for inactivity? Because silence does
- 15:42not mean God is absent. Sometimes, silence simply
- 15:46means God is working where your eyes cannot yet
- 15:50see. Then I began seeing this pattern. Everywhere
- 15:54in scripture before Joseph was called out of
- 15:57prison, God had already disturbed Pharaoh's sleep.
- 16:00Joseph didn't know it. He woke up thinking it
- 16:04was another ordinary morning in prison. He had
- 16:07no idea. That's somewhere else. God was already
- 16:12setting the stage for his promotion, before Esther
- 16:15risked her life before the king. God had already
- 16:19positioned her inside the palace years earlier,
- 16:23before Daniel entered the lion's den. God had
- 16:27already determined that the lions would not have
- 16:30the final word. Before Peter stood before rulers
- 16:34and authorities, Jesus had already promised him,
- 16:38don't worry about what you will say. The Holy
- 16:42Spirit will speak through you. Before Paul boarded
- 16:46the ship that would eventually be wrecked, God
- 16:49had already told him, you will stand before Caesar.
- 16:53Do you see the pattern? God never starts working.
- 16:58When we finally notice Him, He has already been
- 17:01working, long before we recognize His hand. And
- 17:05then another thought came into my spirit, one
- 17:09that completely overwhelmed me. Salvation itself
- 17:12was never an emergency plan. When Adam sinned,
- 17:17God didn't gather the angels and say, what do
- 17:20we do now? No, before humanity ever fell, God
- 17:25already knew redemption would come through Christ.
- 17:28God was never surprised, never caught off guard,
- 17:32never forced to improvise. And if salvation,
- 17:35the greatest story in human history, was never
- 17:38an emergency plan, why would I believe that my
- 17:42own life is? Why would I think that my valley
- 17:46caught God by surprise? Why would I imagine that
- 17:51my trial is forcing God to figure out a solution.
- 17:56No, that's not who He is. He is the God who declares
- 18:00the end from the beginning. He is already in
- 18:03tomorrow, while I'm still trying to understand
- 18:06today. And maybe that's why faith is so important,
- 18:11because faith is not believing that God will
- 18:15eventually start moving. Faith is believing that
- 18:19He is already moving. even when I cannot yet
- 18:22see it. Maybe that's why David could eventually
- 18:26sing again. Maybe that's why Joseph never gave
- 18:30up. Maybe that's why Paul could worship in prison.
- 18:33Maybe that's why Daniel kept praying. Not because
- 18:37they understood everything, but because somewhere
- 18:40deep inside, they had become convinced that God
- 18:45was already doing something greater than they
- 18:47could presently comprehend. And I don't know
- 18:51who needs to hear this today, but maybe while
- 18:54you are praying, God is already preparing. Maybe
- 18:59while you are crying, God is already gathering.
- 19:04Maybe while you are waiting, God is already opening.
- 19:09Maybe while you are wondering how this story
- 19:12will end, God has already written the next chapter.
- 19:16You simply haven't arrived there yet. And that
- 19:22brings me to one final thought, perhaps the most
- 19:25beautiful one of all, because if God was already
- 19:29gathering 400 men for David, what else had he
- 19:33already prepared before his servants ever entered
- 19:37their greatest battles? Then I started going
- 19:40through the Bible and I realized this is how
- 19:44God has always worked before Joseph walked out
- 19:48of prison. God had already disturbed Pharaoh's
- 19:51sleep. Before David left the cave, God had already
- 19:56gathered his future army. Before Esther stood
- 19:59before the king, God had already placed her inside
- 20:03the palace years before anyone understood why.
- 20:06Before Peter stood before rulers and authorities,
- 20:10Jesus had already promised him, don't worry about
- 20:13what you will say. The Holy Spirit will speak
- 20:16through you. before Paul ever arrived in Rome.
- 20:21God had already declared, you will testify before
- 20:25Caesar. Then my mind stopped at one story, the
- 20:29fiery furnace. I have read that story many times,
- 20:33but this time I saw something different. The
- 20:37king thought he controlled the furnace. He ordered
- 20:40it to be heated seven times hotter. The soldiers
- 20:44carrying Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were
- 20:47killed by the flames. The fire behaved exactly
- 20:51as fire should. It burned, it consumed, it killed.
- 20:56Nothing had changed about the nature of the fire,
- 21:00but something had already changed before those
- 21:03three men ever stepped inside. God had already
- 21:07gone before them. The fire still burned. but
- 21:10it could no longer accomplish what it was designed
- 21:13to do. Think about that. The men who approached
- 21:17the furnace without God's covering died. The
- 21:21men who entered it with God's presence walked.
- 21:25Not because the fire stopped being fire, because
- 21:29God had already prepared the outcome even before
- 21:32they entered. Then I remembered something else.
- 21:36When Israel stood in front of the Red Sea, It
- 21:40looked like there was no way forward. The sea
- 21:43was in front of them. Pharaoh was behind them.
- 21:46From a human perspective, it was over. But while
- 21:50they were wondering, God already had a path.
- 21:54The sea did not decide to open by itself. God
- 21:58already knew where his people would walk. He
- 22:02already knew where the walls of water would stand.
- 22:06He already knew Where Pharaoh's army would fall
- 22:09the miracle wasn't an emergency it was already
- 22:13in the heart of God and then Something became
- 22:18very clear to me Maybe that is why Paul could
- 22:22write with so much confidence We know that in
- 22:25all things God works for the good of those who
- 22:28love him who are called according to his purpose
- 22:31Notice what Paul doesn't say he doesn't say we
- 22:36hope He says, we know. How could he know? Because
- 22:42by then, Paul had walked with God long enough
- 22:45to understand something. God never starts working
- 22:49when we finally see him moving. He has already
- 22:53been moving, long before our eyes catch up with
- 22:56his plan. And maybe that is what faith really
- 23:01is. Faith is not trying to convince yourself
- 23:04that everything will somehow work out. Faith
- 23:07is resting in the certainty that God is already
- 23:11ahead of you, already in tomorrow, already in
- 23:15the courtroom, already in the valley, already
- 23:19in the fire, already in the prison, already preparing
- 23:23people, opening doors, closing others, moving
- 23:27hearts, ordering steps, arranging meetings, protecting
- 23:32you from dangers you will never even know existed.
- 23:36Maybe the greatest miracles in your life are
- 23:40the ones you never saw. The conversations God
- 23:44prevented, the accidents he stopped, the doors
- 23:47he closed, the people he removed, the attacks
- 23:51he never allowed to reach you. And maybe one
- 23:55day in eternity, God will show us everything
- 23:58he was doing while we thought he was silent.
- 24:03That thought fills my heart with peace. Because
- 24:06it reminds me that my life has never been in
- 24:10my hands. It has always been in his. So if today
- 24:15you find yourself in a cave, don't assume heaven
- 24:18has stopped moving. While David was sitting in
- 24:22the cave, God was already gathering 400 men.
- 24:26While Joseph was sleeping in prison, God was
- 24:29already troubling Pharaoh's dreams. While the
- 24:32three Hebrew men were walking toward the furnace,
- 24:35God had already gone before them. While Esther
- 24:39was faithfully serving, God was already preparing
- 24:43the moment that would save a nation. And while
- 24:47you are praying today, while you are wondering,
- 24:50while you are waiting, while you are trying to
- 24:53understand, God is already moving. He always
- 24:57has been. Because our God is never caught by
- 25:01surprise. He never improvises. He never reacts.
- 25:05He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning
- 25:08and the end, the one who declares the end from
- 25:12the beginning. And perhaps that is why I can
- 25:16finally rest. Not because I know how this story
- 25:20ends, but because I know the one who has already
- 25:23written the ending. So I'll keep praying. I'll
- 25:28keep dwelling. I'll keep trusting. I'll keep
- 25:31believing. Because if history has taught us anything,
- 25:36it is this. God has never abandoned those who
- 25:40made Him their dwelling place, and He will not
- 25:43begin with you. Amen. Hallelujah.
