- 0:51a treasure. I don't think so, said Pedro. And I'm hot.
- 0:56Let's go get ice cream later, Katie. First, let's look
- 1:01for treasure. The wind blew a paper to Katie. She
- 1:05jumped up and grabbed it. Look, she yelled, It says
- 1:10treasure map. Cool, said Pedro. Let's follow the map and
- 1:14find the treasure. But the wind blew the map out
- 1:17of Katie's hand. It flew around the corner and out
- 1:20of sight. Now it's lost. Said Pedro. No, it's not,
- 1:25said Katie. If we see which way the wind is blowing,
- 1:29we will know where the map flew. Katie looked at
- 1:32the stars and stripes. The wind is coming from that way,
- 1:35she pointed, so it would blow the map the other way.
- 1:39Good thinking, said Pedro. Chapter two, Chasing Treasure. Katie and
- 1:48Pedro passed a new ice cream shop. Let's get ice creams,
- 1:51said Pedro. First, let's find the treasure, said Katie. Pedro yelled, Look, Katie,
- 1:58I see a paper flying. It's the treasure map. Pedro
- 2:02leaped up and grabbed it. Oh no, Pedro groaned, it's
- 2:08not our map, it's someone's shopping list. Pedro plopped down
- 2:12on a bench. He told Katie. Let's give up. No way,
- 2:17said Katie. I want that treasure. Let's keep looking. They
- 2:21began to run again. I see the map, yelled Katie.
- 2:25It flew to that playground. Katie saw boy on a
- 2:29swing grabbed the flying paper. The boy began swinging higher
- 2:34and higher and higher. Then he let the paper go.
- 2:38Katie and Pedro ran after it, so did six brown poodles.
- 2:42One of the dogs jumped up and grabbed the paper.
- 2:47Then the six poodles ran away. They were fast. Oh no,
- 2:52grown Katie, we will never get that map back. Yes
- 2:56we will, Yo, Pedro, we can run as fast as
- 2:59though dogs. Chapter three, Treasure. At last, Katie and Pedro
- 3:06chased the dogs. Finally the dog stops for a drink
- 3:09of water. Katie told the owner, your dog has our map.
- 3:14Naughty Doggie, said the owner. Doggie dropped that paper. Woof,
- 3:20barked Doggie, and he dropped it. Katie grabbed the paper.
- 3:27Oh no, she groaned, This isn't our map. It's a
- 3:31coupon for pet foods. Pedro pointed, I see it are
- 3:36my map. Land it on that parking meter. Yay, Katie yelled,
- 3:41grabbing it. Now we can find the treasure. Wow, said Katie.
- 3:46This map is an ad for the new ice cream shop.
- 3:50It says bring it to the store for free ice cream. Boy,
- 3:54did Katie and Pedro run. The owner said, we want
- 3:58you to love our ice cream, but first you have
- 4:00to taste it. It's fabulous, Katie smiled. It's a treasure
- 4:07and it was our next book is called Katie Woo
- 4:13and Pedro Mysteries The Mystery of the Fishy Canoe, and
- 4:19it was published by Picture Window Books a cap tone
- 4:24in print. It has a copywriter of twenty twenty three

- 4:35It was a warm sunny day. Surprise, said Pedro's mom.
- 4:40We are going on a canoe ride. Cool, said Pedro.
- 4:45Guess what, said Pedro's mom. Katie and her mom are
- 4:48coming to terrific yell Pedro. That makes it more fun.
- 4:54Pedro and his mom got into a canoe. Oops, said
- 4:58Katie's mom. I forgot had in the car. You go
- 5:01ahead and Katie and I will catch up. There's a
- 5:05lot to see here, said Pedro's mom. Great, said Pedro.
- 5:10I don't want to miss anything. I hope Katie sees
- 5:13everything too, look, yelled Pedro. I see a great blue
- 5:18Heiring's nest. Awesome, said his mom. The babies are not
- 5:23very cute, said Pedro. They'll be cute someday, said Pedro's mom.
- 5:29Pedro looked around. Katy and her mom should be here
- 5:32by now. I wonder where they are. I'm sure they
- 5:35are fine, said Pedro's mom. They are probably just taking
- 5:39their time and paddling slowly. Chapter two trouble brewing. Pedro
- 5:46and his mom passed pretty pink water lilies. These flowers
- 5:50smell sweet. Pedro smiled, But I can't stop thinking of Katie.
- 5:55Watch out, warned Pedro's mom. You are rowing us in circle. Sorry,
- 6:02said Pedro. Pedro and his mom rode harder. Before long,
- 6:06their canoe was going straight again, But soon there was
- 6:09more trouble. Suddenly clouds covered the sun and the wind
- 6:13blew harder. Oh no, said Pedro. It's starting to rain now.
- 6:18I'm extra worried about Katie. Maybe the wind turned Katie's
- 6:23canoe upside down, said Pedro. Maybe she needs our help.
- 6:28Let's go back the way we came, said Pedro's mom.
- 6:31We will find Katie and her mom and help them.
- 6:34Which way was that, asked Pedro. I don't know, said
- 6:39his mom. Chapter three, The Search. I know what to do,
- 6:46said Pedro. Let's follow that smell. It's coming from the
- 6:49water lilies. We passed Katie and her mom must have
- 6:52passed them too. They padded their canoe to the water lilies.
- 6:57No Katie, no mom, uh oh my, said Pedro's mom.
- 7:02I have another idea, said Pedro. Let's go back to
- 7:06another thing. We passed, the great blue heron's nest. Maybe
- 7:10Katy and her mom went back there. Pedro and his
- 7:14mom paddled to the nest. No, Katie, no, mom, Let's
- 7:18hurry back to shore, said Pedro's mom. We must tell
- 7:22the police Katy and her mom are lost. Pedro and
- 7:26his mom paddled fast, fast, fast, stop. Yeo, Pedro, I
- 7:31see Katie's canoe. It was empty. Oh no, Pedro groaned.
- 7:37I hope they didn't drown. No way, said Pedro's mom.
- 7:42Look at that shore. They are sitting on a log
- 7:45holding fishing poles. Yay, yo, Pedro, What a great sight,
- 7:51Katie told Pedro. Mom. And I wanted to surprise you
- 7:54with fish for supper. You sure did, said Pedro. The
- 7:59fish was very tasty. Our next book is called Pedro
- 8:05Pedro's Tricky Tower and it was published by Picture Window
- 8:09Books at Capstone in print. It has a copyright ear
- 8:13of twenty eighteen and it was written by fran Maynushkin.
- 8:18Chapter one A tricky project. Pedro loved to build. He
- 8:23helped his father make a tree house. He helped his
- 8:26grandpa build a fireplace. One day, as teacher Miss Winkle
- 8:32told the class, I have a tricky building project for you. Yay,
- 8:37yelled Roddy. I love tricks. I play them on people
- 8:41all the time. That's not the kind of tricky I mean,
- 8:44said miss Winkle. We are going to try to build
- 8:47the tallest tower. That's easy, bragg Pedro. All we need
- 8:52are lots of bricks. We are not using bricks, said
- 8:55miss Winkle. We are using nineteen paper cups. You will
- 8:59be work teams. Berry and Jojo were on Katie Woo's team.
- 9:04Sophie was on Pedro's team. So was Roddy. Watch out,
- 9:10warned Katie. R O D d Y spells t R
- 9:14O U b l E. Chapter two. Time to build,
- 9:19Miss Winkle toe the teams. Before you build, you need
- 9:22to plan. I don't need to plan, said Pedro. I
- 9:25know what to do. Pedro began piling up paper cups.
- 9:30He tried to build high, but the tie towers kept
- 9:33falling down. Roddy put four paper cups on his head.
- 9:37Watch out, he joked, my towers are falling down too.
- 9:42Pedro and Sophie tried again and again, but the cups
- 9:45kept falling. Oh boy, said Pedro, I wish we had
- 9:49some bricks. Then it was time for recess. Roddy toe.
- 9:53Pedro forget the tower. Let's see who can do the
- 9:56most hand stands. I know I'll win. Roddy flipped upside
- 10:02down and back again. Pedro tried it. He kept falling down.
- 10:06Watch me and learn, said Roddy. Pedro did watch Roddy.
- 10:10Then he began thinking. That's it. Pedro yelled, you showed
- 10:14me how to build the tallest tower. Chapter three, The
- 10:18Tallest Tower. After recess, Pedro ran back to class. He said,
- 10:24let's put some of the cups right side up and
- 10:27some upside down. Pedro and Sophie began to build. Let
- 10:31me help, said Roddy. He began piling up the cups.
- 10:36Their tower got higher and higher. It did not fall.
- 10:40It was the tallest tower. Way to go, said Miss Winkle.
- 10:45Roddy couldn't stop smiling. He told Pedro I knew we
- 10:49could do it. He gave Pedro a high five. After school,
- 10:54Pedro said, want to help me fix my tree house? Cool,
- 10:58said Roddy. Racia. There they both won. Our next book
- 11:04is called Pedro Pedro's Mystery Club, and it was published
- 11:09by Picture Window Books. A capstone in print is a
- 11:13copyright year of twenty seventeen and it was written by
- 11:17friend Mannushkin. Chapter one, A small mystery. I am starting
- 11:22a mystery club, Pedro told Katie and Jojo. We can
- 11:26have our meetings here in my new treehouse. Cool ideas,
- 11:30said Jojo. I'm great at sobbing mystery, said Katie. Wu.
- 11:35I always know where mom hides my birthday presence. I
- 11:38have a mystery for you, said Pedro's mom. I can't
- 11:42find my locket. That is a small mystery, said Pedro.
- 11:46But it's a good start. Pedro wrote down the clues.
- 11:50Where did you go today, he asked his mom. I
- 11:53went to the store to get chocolate chip cookie mixed.
- 11:57She said, I know what to do, said, We will
- 12:01follow the path you took and find your locket. It
- 12:04will be hard work, so when we come back, we
- 12:07will need those cookies. Katy told Pedro. I'm glad the
- 12:12sun is out. The locket will sparkle in the sunlight.
- 12:15That will make it easy to find. I see it, yeo, Katie, Oops,
- 12:20I don't know. It's just a dime. I found the
- 12:24toy ring, said Jojo. It fits my hand. But they
- 12:28didn't find a locket. Chapter two, more clues. The three
- 12:35friends came to a big hill. Katie asked, do you
- 12:37think your mom walked up this hill? No way, said Pedro,
- 12:42but I would like to roll down it. It's fun.
- 12:45It was oops, said Pedro, I lost my notebook. They
- 12:49climbed back up and found the notebook. Solving mysteries is
- 12:54hard work, said Pedro. I need a drink. Luckily, his
- 12:57friend Jane was settling lemonade. I saw your mom and
- 13:01ire ago, said Jane. She got a drink on her
- 13:04way to the store. Was she wearing her lockett, asked Pedro.
- 13:08She wasn't, said Jane. Always like looking at the photos
- 13:12in sight, but she wasn't wearing it. They rushed home.
- 13:17Pedro told his mom, Jane didn't see you wearing your
- 13:20locket on the way to the store. It is still here.
- 13:23I have another mystery, said Pedro's dad. I can't find
- 13:27my new phone. Did you row down a hill, asked Pedro. No,
- 13:32said his dad. They looked for his phone, they looked
- 13:35for the locket. No look. Chapter three case closed. Pedro said,
- 13:42let's take a break from mystery solving. Let's play soccer.
- 13:46Katie kicked the ball. She kicked it too hard and
- 13:49the ball rode under a bush. I'll get it, yelled Pedro.
- 13:54As he grabbed the ball, he saw something shiny, his
- 13:57mom's locket. Yay, Pedro, She said, my locket fell off
- 14:03when I was picking roses. Now, let's find dad's phone,
- 14:07said Pedro. Let's go to our clubhouse. That's a good
- 14:11place to think. Jojo wondered if I were a phone,
- 14:15where would I be? Kate Katie said, I wish that
- 14:19noisy bird would stop chirping. I can't think that's no bird,
- 14:24said Pedro. It's dad's phone. Someone is trying to call him.
- 14:29They follow the sound to the grass. Pedro's dad smiled,
- 14:33I dropped it when I was painting your tree house.
- 14:36Katie Woo smiled too. If your family keeps losing things,
- 14:40we will always have mysteries to solve, quick, said Pedro.
- 14:47Before that happens, let's have a snack. The snack was
- 14:50no mystery. It was chocolate chip COOKIESE. Our next few
- 14:56stories are about Anna and Andrew. The first one is
- 14:59called Anne Andrew Family Reunion. It was published by Calico Kid,
- 15:06an imprint of Magic Wagon, and it has a copyright
- 15:12year of twenty twenty one. It was written by Christine Platte,
- 15:19Chapter one, Countdown to Savannah. Anna and Andrew always enjoyed
- 15:25summer vacation. During the day, they went to camp with
- 15:28their friends. At night, Mom and Papa allowed them to
- 15:31stay up a little later since they didn't have school
- 15:34the next day. Summer was also when they attended their
- 15:38favorite family event. Time to countdown, Andrew said, excitedly, only
- 15:43one more week until family reunion. Anna gave Sissy a
- 15:48big hug. I can't wait to see your cousins, and Sissy,
- 15:52you're going to see your doll cousins. Mama pointed to
- 15:56a picture of Anna and Sissy standing with their cousins
- 15:59and their They were all dressed alike. You both sure
- 16:03had fun last summer. I can't wait to play all day.
- 16:07Andrew thought about how much fun they had playing games
- 16:10outside Every summer. Papa's family held a reunion in Savannah, Georgia,
- 16:16at Great Uncle Isaac's large farm. And and Andrew's family
- 16:20members came from many different states to spend the weekend together.
- 16:24The big celebration was one of the best parts of
- 16:27the summer. Hey, this will be Aaron's first family reunion.
- 16:32Andrew held Aaron's hands to help him stand up. There's
- 16:36a lot of dancing, little brother, so you'd better start practicing.
- 16:40Andrew did a wiggle dance and everyone laughed as Aaron
- 16:44tried to do a wiggle dance too. A and Andrew
- 16:47couldn't wait for the rest of their family to meet Aaron,
- 16:50especially their cousins. Yes, this family reunion is going to
- 16:54be very special, Papas said. We have a great deal
- 16:57to celebrate and to be thankful for. Chapter two. Road trip.
- 17:03One week later, Anne and Andrew carefully packed their suitcases.
- 17:08There was a lot to do at the family reunion,
- 17:10and they wanted to make sure they had everything they needed. First,
- 17:14they packed their swimsuits. The cousins always went swimming in
- 17:17the lake at Great Uncle Isaac's farm. The weather in
- 17:22Spaina was very warm, so they packed t shirts, short socks,
- 17:26and sneakers. Finally, they packed their favorite pajamas and toothbrushes.
- 17:32Who's ready for our road trip tomorrow, Papa shouted, we are,
- 17:38and and Andrew yelled back to him. The drive to
- 17:41Savannah was a little over eight hours long, and Andrew
- 17:45passed the time by reading books. They also played fun
- 17:48games like trying to spot cars with license plates from
- 17:51different states. Mom and Papa joined in, especially when they
- 17:56sang songs, and and Andrew called out each state they
- 18:00passed through. Virginia. Andrews said when he saw the state sign,
- 18:05now we're in North Carolina, and announced when they crossed
- 18:09into the next state, in South Carolina. Papa stopped to
- 18:12get gas. Then they went to their favorite out of
- 18:15town restaurant, miss Amy's Diner. They ate lunch there every
- 18:20summer on their way down south. It's the Lewis family.
- 18:24Miss Amy gave everyone a big hug. If y'all are
- 18:27at my dinner, that can only mean one thing that's
- 18:31right in, and Andrews said proudly, it's family reunion time.
- 18:37After lunch, Ann and Andrew took a long nap during
- 18:40the car ride. They went to sleep with big smiles
- 18:43on their faces because they knew that they're where they be.
- 18:47When they woke up, Savannah, Chapter three, Family Traditions, We're Mama,
- 18:56whispered Anne. And Andrew yawned and looked out the car
- 18:59window a great Uncle Isaac's farm. Their cousins had already
- 19:03arrived and were playing outside. Woo hoo. Andrew said as
- 19:08he unbuckled his seat belt. Anna saw her cousin Maya
- 19:11sitting on a blanket having tea time with her doll.
- 19:15Come on, sissy, let's go. After a few games, ann
- 19:19and Andrew went swimming with their cousins, then they went
- 19:23to the barn to visit the farm animals. After that,
- 19:26they went inside the house to clean up. Do you
- 19:29smell that? Anna asked Andrew. I sure do. Andrew rubbed
- 19:34his tummy. Together, they went into the kitchen. Several adults
- 19:38were laughing as they cooked and baked desserts for the
- 19:41big family dinner. Anna and Andrew hugged their grandparents' pants
- 19:46and uncles, and Marcy let them each have a sample
- 19:50of her famous pies. I just love family reunion, Andrew
- 19:55sighed as he took a bite of sweet potato pie.
- 19:59Me and sis he do too. Anna smiled as she
- 20:02tasted her favorite apple pie. That night, everyone went into
- 20:06the living room to listen to great Uncle Isaac tells stories.
- 20:10He was their oldest family member and listening to his
- 20:13stories was a tradition. This is the seventy fifth anniversary
- 20:18of the Lewis family reunion. Great Uncle Isaac said, We've
- 20:22been coming together to celebrate since I was a young boy. Wow,
- 20:27Andrews said, yes. Uncle Isaac said, fifty years ago there
- 20:31were just a few family members, but look at us now.
- 20:35Everyone looked through photo albums. The pictures from the first
- 20:39family reunions were very old. And Andrew felt very special
- 20:43to be a part of the Lewis family and continue
- 20:47the traditions. Chapter four, Let's celebrate. Everyone ate breakfast together
- 20:54the next morning. When it was time to get dressed,
- 20:56everyone wore a special gift, a family reunion T shirt.
- 21:01There was even a little one for Sissy. While the
- 21:03Adels held their family meeting, Ana and Andrew played more
- 21:07games with their cousins and went swimming again. Everyone ate
- 21:11lunch together outside and enjoyed the sunshine. Then it was
- 21:15time from the family award ceremony. Momm Papa received an
- 21:20award for traveling the farthest to attend family reunion. Great
- 21:24Uncle Isaac won an award for being the oldest. I
- 21:27had the honor of giving the award to our youngest
- 21:29family member. Great Uncle Isaac said, and the award goes
- 21:34to Aaron Lewis. Anna and Andrew giggled as Aaron tried
- 21:39to eat his ribbon. Soon it was time for the
- 21:42big family dinner. Before eating, everyone in the Lewis family
- 21:46shared what each one loved most about family. After dinner,
- 21:50Great Uncle Isaac began playing music and said, all right,
- 21:54it's time to celebrate. Oh boy, Andrew did a wiggle dance,
- 22:00the moment I've been waiting for. The entire Lewis family
- 22:03participated as Andrew led the electric slide, his favorite line dance.
- 22:09Baby Aaron tried to dance too, even though he couldn't
- 22:13walk yet. It was another wonderful family reunion. Ain and
- 22:18Andrew couldn't wait to do it again next year. They
- 22:20look forward to celebrating with their family for many years
- 22:24to come. Our next book is called Anna and Andrew
- 22:28Honoring Heroes. It was published by Calico Kid and imprint
- 22:32of Magic Wagon Abdoe Books. It has a copyright year
- 22:39of twenty twenty one and the author is Christine Platt.
- 22:45Chapter one, Saturday Fun Satndury's were always special at Ane
- 22:50and Andrew's house. First, Mama usually made pancakes for breakfast. Afterward,
- 22:55Anna and Andrew practiced playing their violins. Then it was
- 22:59time for a fun adventure Mama and Papa were always
- 23:02taking the family on fun adventures in their city. There
- 23:06are so many wonderful things to do in Washington, d C.
- 23:09Like visit museums, tour art galleries, and see importance statues.
- 23:14One Saturday, after practicing the violin, Anna asked, where are
- 23:18we going this weekend? Papa smiled, this weekend, we are
- 23:22going to a place in the city you've never been
- 23:25an and Andrew thought. For a moment, they were pretty
- 23:28sure they'd been to every fun place in Washington, d C.
- 23:32Is it really in DC? Andrew asked, yes, Papa said,
- 23:38but I wanted to finish some research before we visited.
- 23:41Mama gave Papa big hug and he finished last night.
- 23:44I am so very proud of him. I'm proud of
- 23:47him too. Andrew also gave Papa hug. Me and Sissy
- 23:52are too. Anna said, she hugged her favorite doll, and
- 23:55then Papa grew hug their baby brother. Aaron burped and
- 24:00one laughed. Thank you. Papa said, now let's get ready.
- 24:04We'll even fifteen minutes. Ann and Andrew were excited for
- 24:08another Saturday adventure. Chapter two. A special clue later, the
- 24:13Lewis family walked towards the closest metro stop to go
- 24:17on the fun adventure. Anne and Andrew loved riding the
- 24:20local train. It's especially fun because the metro was underground.
- 24:25Can you give us a clue? Andrew asked. He was
- 24:28curious about where they were going, especially because it was
- 24:32somewhere they never been. Well, Papa thought, one clue is
- 24:37that it has to do with soldiers. Soldiers, Andrew exclaimed, cool,
- 24:43that is cool. Anne agreed. How about another clue, Papa laughed.
- 24:48As they got to the metro stop, he held Anna
- 24:50and Andrew's hands to go down the escalator. Hmmm, Papa said,
- 24:55Then he smiled, I know a good clue. One of
- 24:58these soldiers, last name was Lewis. Ain and Andrew looked
- 25:02at each other in surprise. We have a soldier in
- 25:05our family, Anna asked. Had a soldier? Papa explained, Sergeant
- 25:11Samuel Lewis fought in the Civil War. Wow, Andrew did
- 25:16a wiggle dance. In school, we learned the Civil War
- 25:19helped in slavery. Anna hug Sissy. We had a real
- 25:23hero in our family. That's right, Papa said, And this
- 25:27is our train. Everyone stepped into the train. Car and
- 25:31sat down. Now that we know Sergeant Lewis is only
- 25:34right that we honor him, Papa continued. Mama nodded in agreement,
- 25:39and that's what we are doing today. We are visiting
- 25:42the African American Civil War Memorial. She looked at Papa.
- 25:47I'm so glad Papa discovered Sergeant Lewis during his genealogy research.
- 25:53What is genology, Anna asked, It's the study of your
- 25:57family's history. Mama explained. A and Andrew were very excited
- 26:03Sergeant Louis was an actual soldier in their family. It
- 26:06was even more special to know he served in the
- 26:09war that helped end slavery. We will finish this book
- 26:15next time. This concludes our Children's Story Hour for today.
