  There is a reason the wise men following the star were called wise men.

  They knew to follow the light to where Jesus lay.

  Today, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can know the will of God for our

  lives. We can know God through Jesus, His Son.

  He is the light and encompasses every believer.
• 1:21

  Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.

  And I'd like for you to turn in your Bibles to Matthew chapter 2 and verses
• 1:47
  1 and 2 if you have opportunity.
• 1:49
  It says, Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod
• 1:53
  the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.
• 1:57
  Saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews?
• 2:01
  For we have seen his star in the east and
• 2:04
  are come to worship him it never
• 2:08
  ceases to amaze me as we look through
• 2:10
  the scriptures and see the wisdom and
• 2:14
  the amazing truths that are revealed to
• 2:17
  us truths that teach us
• 2:20
  that individuals in times when the
• 2:23
  holy spirit did not even indwell in them were able
• 2:27
  to follow christ more faithfully
• 2:31
  more diligently and with
• 2:35
  much more passion than many of
• 2:38
  us do today who has the holy spirit indwelling
• 2:41
  in us and as i think about that it
• 2:44
  constantly boggles my mind these wise
• 2:48
  men saw the star in
• 2:51
  the east and the scripture says that
• 2:56
  they saw his star in
• 2:59
  the east and they knew that
• 3:03
  if they followed the light of the star it
• 3:06
  would lead them to the place where jesus lay the bible tells us that men who
• 3:12
  love darkness rather than light their deeds are evil the bible clearly explains
• 3:18
  to us from genesis to revelations that sin is darkness,
• 3:24
  evil is darkness.
• 3:26
  And Jesus is the light. In fact, the Bible says that he is the light of the world.

  And these wise men traveled some two years to get to the place where Jesus lay.
• 3:40
  And for some two years, they followed the light.
• 3:46
  They didn't have much else to go on.
• 3:50
  But in their heart of hearts they understood.
• 3:53
  That underneath the star in the
• 3:56
  east there would be the baby
• 3:59
  jesus and they followed i'm sure
• 4:03
  through inclement weather through adverse
• 4:06
  times i'm sure that after a
• 4:09
  while it seemed useless to some people but
• 4:13
  nothing detoured them from following the
• 4:16
  light because they knew at the end of
• 4:19
  the light there would be jesus and
• 4:23
  they were so excited to see jesus and they were
• 4:26
  so intrigued by who jesus was this
• 4:29
  baby that they were willing to pursue
• 4:33
  something for two years without getting
• 4:36
  any gratification in the
• 4:39
  meantime and for many of us we can't
• 4:43
  even get through a five minute prayer without
• 4:47
  our mind wondering without us
• 4:50
  thinking of something else or being distracted by some noise
• 4:53
  because our purpose to follow
• 4:57
  christ and our purpose to know christ has such
• 5:00
  a diminished capacity compared to those wise men and we have the holy spirit
• 5:06
  to instruct us yet we are not diligent about seeking a relationship with christ
• 5:11
  through his word and in prayer and so as we begin to look at these wise men
• 5:16
  there's some characteristics i'd like to point out.
• 5:20
  And I'd like to point out that the scripture themselves refer to them as wise men.
• 5:26
  It says there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.
• 5:32
  Wisdom is a gift of God. And he says he gives the liberally to those who ask of him.
• 5:37
  The Bible says that it is wise to follow the rules of God.
• 5:41
  The Bible says that it is wise to stay in the will of God.
• 5:47
  These wise men were men who had a lot of knowledge, but they knew how and when
• 5:53
  to apply that knowledge. And that's what godly wisdom is.
• 5:56
  Godly wisdom is having knowledge of the scriptures and having a personal relationship
• 6:01
  with Jesus Christ to the extent that you know how to use those scriptures in your everyday life.
• 6:07
  That you may lead others to Christ. That you may be a light that others can
• 6:12
  come to you that you could show them Jesus.
• 6:16
  The wise men understood the value of the light.
• 6:21
  They followed the light. They were fixed on the light. They trusted the light.
• 6:28
  Let's think about that in our own lives for a moment. The Bible says that he
• 6:33
  is the light and in him there is no darkness.
• 6:37
  And then the scriptures a little.
• 6:39
  Further over in the book of Matthew in chapter 5 beginning in verse 14.
• 6:44
  Jesus says ye are the light of the
• 6:46
  world a city that cannot a city
• 6:50
  that is set on a heel cannot be hid neither
• 6:53
  do men light a candle and put it under a bushel but on
• 6:57
  a candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house then he says
• 7:02
  let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify
• 7:07
  your father which is in heaven they understood the value of the So they stayed
• 7:14
  with their eyes upon the light.
• 7:16
  As a Christian, we know that God, through his son Jesus Christ, is the light.
• 7:24
  And we know that in Jesus, we can see the plan that God has for us.
• 7:30
  It illuminates the life we are to live.
• 7:33
  And Christ has told us that he came that we might have life and that we might
• 7:37
  have it more abundantly.
• 7:39
  And so we know that the plans he has for us to prosper us, to give us a hope
• 7:42
  and an expected end. And so his light reveals to us his plan for us.
• 7:49
  Yet so often we're not looking at his light. We're not looking at him in the word.
• 7:54
  We're not looking at him in our personal relationship with him.
• 7:57
  We are looking to the world, to the things of the world. We are dabbling in
• 8:03
  the darkness of the world. We are not fixated on the light.
• 8:07
  Everybody knows that the shortest distance between two points is a straight
• 8:11
  line. And we need to have a straight line between us and Jesus because he will
• 8:19
  give us that straight line to God.
• 8:22
  And that means we need to be following after him directly. He says that he is the one we're to follow.
• 8:29
  He says his sheep hear their voice, his voice, and they know him.
• 8:33
  The wise men follow the light of the star.
• 8:36
  And it teaches us as Christians, we are to follow the light of Jesus.

  So that we find jesus we
• 8:44
  are to be the light that he tells us in matthew
• 8:47
  chapter 5 so that others can find
• 8:50
  jesus through the words that we show them in the bible through the life that
• 8:55
  we live that jesus has blessed us with through the words that we say our testimony
• 9:00
  our witness of god in us through his light that lives in us others can follow that light and.

  To see Jesus. The wise men teach us that we need to be purposed and fixed on the light.
• 9:17
  The wise men teach us that the light will lead us to Jesus.
• 9:22
  The scriptures teaches us that if we have the light of Jesus in us,
• 9:26
  that we too can lead them to Jesus.
• 9:30
  The wise men teach us that things happen over time.
• 9:34
  Though many of our nativity scenes
• 9:37
  will place the wise men directly in the
• 9:40
  place where the baby jesus lay scripture tells us that it was some two years
• 9:45
  it took them to make that journey to jerusalem to bethlehem to be able to see
• 9:52
  the place where jesus lay and to see the christ child You see,
• 9:59
  we often get discouraged as the devil just throws a pebble in our path.

  But the wise men knew the value of the end of the journey.
• 10:11
  And so they were willing to endure the journey with one purpose in mind,
• 10:15
  which was to follow the light.
• 10:17
  The Bible says in John chapter 14 and verse 1, it says, In my father's house
• 10:22
  are many mansions, and if it were not so, I would have told you.
• 10:25
  I go to prepare a place for you that where I am you
• 10:28
  may be also and if I go to prepare a place for you I will
• 10:30
  come again and receive you unto myself the end
• 10:34
  of the journey with Jesus Christ is life everlasting it's a home where beauty
• 10:41
  is beyond our comprehension because he says I have not seen an ear have not
• 10:46
  heard what lies in store for them that love the Lord the wise men teach us that
• 10:50
  the light is what we should follow.
• 10:53
  The wise men teach us that we should be fixed on the light.
• 10:57
  The wise men teach us that the light will illuminate all things that we need to know.
• 11:02
  And the wise men teach us that it is worth the effort.
• 11:08
  For they came to the place where the baby Jesus lay, and they worshipped him.
• 11:14
  Two years or so of traveling to get to where he is.
• 11:20
  And when they saw Jesus, they worshiped him. None of us have probably had to
• 11:24
  go through much at all to find Jesus.
• 11:27
  We are blessed to live in a country where we can speak of him.
• 11:30
  We have the word of God prevalent in our hands.
• 11:34
  People go to church or churches on every corner.
• 11:37
  We didn't have to travel two years to see baby Jesus.
• 11:41
  We just have to take a moment to give him the time to let us understand that
• 11:47
  for God so loved the world.
• 11:49
  That he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
• 11:54
  perish, but have everlasting life.
• 11:58
  The Bible tells us that he is the light of the world and that we are the light
• 12:02
  of the world with him in us.
• 12:04
  I believe that if we took a moment to study what the wise men do and began to put that in our lives,
• 12:13
  we too would understand that it's worth the effort and we would fall and worship
• 12:19
  the one and true God as His light reveals the salvation of Jesus.
