The Fear of Freedom
History shows that men often fear freedom more than tyranny. From ancient philosophers to modern voters, freedom is treated as dangerous because it requires responsibility. People praise liberty with their lips, yet repeatedly vote against it in practice.
Scripture exposes the root issue: slavery to sin. “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (John 8:34). Only Christ makes men truly free. When people flee from God, they flee from responsibility and choose slavery instead.
The choice is never neutral: God or slavery.
