- 0:00We're back with Alex Caravan on the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show. I forgot
- 0:03to ask Dan Hurley this, so I'm gonna ask you in prominence. The
- 0:08other night, things weren't going real well. Early Dan lost his mind a
- 0:14little bit and he got a technical foul. It turned out the team went
- 0:19crazy after that and outscored Providence like forty to nine. Did that technical foul
- 0:25have anything to do with it? That's my question. I didn't get it
- 0:28from Dan, I'm getting it from you. I definitely think so. I
- 0:33definitely think that God has gone and really just slit the fire inside of us
- 0:37because we weren't ready to We we were ready to play, but we didn't
- 0:41expect the punches that they threw, and just we didn't respond well to the
- 0:44punches that they were throwing at us in the beginning. So I think the
- 0:48fire definitely lit inside of us when he got the technical. And then you
- 0:52know, after the technical, he huddled us up and you know, he
- 0:54said, he says some stuff that God is going and really just you know,
- 0:58express his anger and passion. So yeah, I think the technical really
- 1:03turned everything around. Yeah, I said on a broadcast, I don't think
- 1:06there's a more passionate guy a coach on the planet. I don't even care.
- 1:10I'm not the state, not the region, not the country. I
- 1:12think the planet, there's nobody more passionate than Dan Hurley. I agree with
- 1:19you, no one on that. Okay, we agree on that. No
- 1:23one cares to him, Nobody, nobody, nobody in my mind. Anyway,
- 1:27let's talk about a couple of your teammates here and then, I mean
- 1:30Newton and Spencer getting out on the first team for the All Big East,
- 1:34clinging on the honorable mention. I thought you should have at least been there,
- 1:37maybe the first team itself. How do you deal with that personally?
- 1:42How are you going to take that? Now? You know, the coaches
- 1:45didn't vote enough for you, and I hate it. I'm totally against it.
- 1:49I'm up in arms coaches too, What about you? Yeah, I
- 1:53say probably the first hour too, I saw the teams. I was definitely
- 1:57frustrated just from you know, at a standpoint, just you know, put
- 2:01a lot of energy into the season. I thought I played well, I
- 2:06played good enough for you know, during the big season. So I was
- 2:08definitely frustrated just from the competitive side of things. But at the same time,
- 2:13I mean, it happened last year, is happening this year again.
- 2:16And you know, I've never cared about personal accomplishments, and I just know
- 2:21I was super happy at first for Tristan, Cam and Donovan, and then
- 2:25of course Hassan with his award today too, So I was happy for them,
- 2:30but frustrating from the competitive side. It's like, all right, like
- 2:32cool, now I got I got another chip on my shoulder, headed into
- 2:37the biggiest torment this weekend. I'm super excited, you know, to release
- 2:40my anger that I had from that. But at the same time, out
- 2:44a million times, I'd rather win rings here that I feel like that,
- 2:49you know, cements your legacy even more. And you know, I've always
- 2:53wanted team accomplishment more. Winning rings is much better than being players Player of
- 2:59the Years. I'd rather do that. Yeah, And everyone knows how valuable
- 3:01those rings are when you get them. And you got one already with the
- 3:06National Championship. Okay, so New York, you got an opener on Thursday
- 3:10at noon. How tough is it gonna be to play a noon game weekday?
- 3:15Because I don't think you do that. You play them on the weekends
- 3:17once all. But now you're gonna play a weekday noon game. This is
- 3:22gonna be different. Yeah, it'll definitely be different, but I think it's
- 3:24really the same as any other new in game. I think I think when
- 3:29we stepped into MSG, we just get a whole different type of energy and
- 3:32just you know, I think the previous games we've been playing at MSG have
- 3:36been cool, but like when the MSG games have happened for the big Eiast
- 3:39tournament, that's just a whole other level, whole other level adrenaline kicks in
- 3:44and just excitement just in general. You just feel the buzz from the city.
- 3:47So I think it really doesn't matter what time we play at noon,
- 3:52midnight, whatever, I think. I think the adrenaline is always going to
- 3:54be there for us and we'll be ready. Yeah, the well putig East
- 3:59in New York. Everyone, you know, I've been in New York my
- 4:00whole life basically professionally, and I know that, and I've been there for
- 4:04a lot of great moments. It is different. Uh It's New York.
- 4:08It's the center of basketball in the world. Really. Uh So playing on
- 4:12that floor and if you had four chances this year, is does that help
- 4:15you because you've got four non conference games in that building. Uh so you're
- 4:18pretty familiar with those Rims going in. No, definitely, I think that's
- 4:23just gonna that's gonna be a little advantage for us, just having been able
- 4:27to play in that arena as well as playing Saint John's there too. I
- 4:30think it definitely can give us a little bit of an advantage just from where
- 4:34it used to the environment where you used to the sounds, the noises,
- 4:38the lighting, all of that, the Rims so and having played there and
- 4:42been successful so far this season it's been I definitely say it's a little bit
- 4:46of an advantage for us. And you will have fans. Don't forget that.
- 4:49A lot of people come to these games. I mean, and I
- 4:53know you guys are aware of it. You get a lot of folks coming
- 4:56the road too, But in New York you got a lot of Yukon fans.
- 4:59How how can that help you? I totally forgot to say that in
- 5:03the previous answer, But yeah, the fans, they're most important for us.
- 5:06I mean, having the fans, the Yukon fan base support us during
- 5:12this huge tournament and just hearing the Yukon chance or in the national anthem and
- 5:15everything that they do. It truly means the world to us, just because
- 5:19we know how important the fans were for us a gamble and excel the season,
- 5:24and for them to be there at MSG, especially in such a huge
- 5:27tournament, it's going to mean the world to us. And we know that
- 5:30they'll show out. We know that they'll pack out New York and I mean,
- 5:34I think that's just the most excited I am when Yukon fans show up
- 5:39to MSG. How do you calm your nerves when you get into games like
- 5:42those? Yeah, as crazy as it sounds, after the experience last year,
- 5:47we just treat it as like any other game. Like we just go
- 5:50in there with you know, the championship pedigree that we have and the cool
- 5:54calmness that we experienced from last year and really implemented because we can't be we
- 5:59can't be too anxious, we can't be too excited, we can't be too
- 6:01nervous because I feel like that just affects our game. We just got to
- 6:03go in there and just you know, player style basketball and do what we've
- 6:08been doing throughout the regular season. I think everything else will click in for
- 6:12you know, the tournament and MARCHMADNS going forward. But I think we have
- 6:15too many guys on this team this year that experienced the biggest stage possible in
- 6:18college basketball. Yeah, tell you what. That's a great answer, Alex.
- 6:23We appreciate you. Thanks so much. Good luck this week in New
- 6:25York. And that wraps up the U COM Men's Basketball Coaches Show with Dan
- 6:29Hurley and Alex Caravan. I'm Mike Chrispino. Thanks for joining us on lear Field.
