  [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dissect a little bit about how Liam Cohen's screen game can make offense easier for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season in twenty twenty five.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The screen game in the NFL is getting more and more calm and more and more heavily utilized.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But for many teams including Doug Peterson's Jaguars in recent years, despite running screens often, results were mixed at best.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And now, we say screen use usage is growing and growing.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's still a very minor part of the offense, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars have been on the higher end of screen usage and on the lower end of screen success.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So they have not had a lot of success running screens on the off-inside of the ball on the deep inside of the ball.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They've had a lot of trouble throughout the years, seemingly for the last

  [SPEAKER_00]: decade plus defending screens.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But right now we're focused on Liam Cohen, his offense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to do a few more of these throughout the next couple weeks leading up to training camp where we kind of look at different ways that Liam Cohen is able to pull levers and help make offense easier for the players out there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen's diverse screen game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It was a driver for Tampa's offensive success in twenty twenty four.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it can be in Jacksonville as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Both with wide receiver screens and running back screens, they were prevalent throughout Liam Cohen's offense weekend and week out in a variety of different formations and looks for Tampa, last year in twenty twenty four.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The bucks actually ran a screen on seventeen percent of their dropbacks last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's the fourth most in the NFL.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And they were the second most successful team on screens by EPA behind only the Detroit Lions who obviously they're offensive coordinator got hired away to be the head coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: of the Chicago Bears, everybody knows Ben Johnson, Jaguars fans.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Got Liam Cohen instead.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that could be just as good.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, how and why Liam Cohen's screen game was so successful in Tampa is what we're going to look at here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we have a couple examples of how Liam Cohen's screen game works right here for you.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So it's week one against the commanders.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And right here we have the Tampa Bay Buck and ears lined up with two wide receivers to the left, one wide receiver to the right, two backs in the back field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we have a slight motion here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That gets the defense leaning towards the opposite side of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we get a very quick screen to Chris Godwin.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously you see lots of hands in the back.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Lots of defenders converging on the back field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You also had a little fake

  [SPEAKER_00]: to Rashad White.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So we have two indicators pointing the defense to the right on this play.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then we have Chris Godwin getting the ball on the left side of the offense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: All we need is one block to hit out here from number ten who actually held a little bit there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you got called for holding and we have a nice little play.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: There are so many different variations.

  [SPEAKER_00]: of the screen game with Liam Cohen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This is one example of it where you had some motion to the right from multiple players and it helped have the defense focusing on that side of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You get up field with Chris Godwin.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So right here we have four wide receivers to the right.

  [SPEAKER_00]: One of them is actually running back Rashad White who is motioning into the back field and we've got Mike Evans up top one on one.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So we are commanding a lot of attention to the right side of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And this actually isn't going to be a screen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a simulated screen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But you have the Washington Commander's defenders believing that there's a screen to this side of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter a whole lot because it was going to be one-on-one coverage with Mike Evans and the corner back up here regardless it looks like.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you have a metal linebacker that's completely frozen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It looks like

  [SPEAKER_00]: But the threat of the screen can give you advantageous situations elsewhere.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I would say inside the red zone, getting Mike Evans one on one with the corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty advantageous situation.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you can see obviously Mike Evans is able to fight through contact what probably should have been called passenger clearance.

  [SPEAKER_00]: on the defense, score the touchdown, and you can see Brian Thomas Jr., you can see Travis Hunter executing in situations like this in a big way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Not the same way, because Mike Evans winning with physicality, they would be winning with more speed, juice down the field, but that's a hell of a play.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And another way that Liam Cohen can utilize the screen game without actually calling a screen,

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he does this quite often.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The fake screen to one side of the field immediately attack the other side.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So here we have trips to the bottom side of the screen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: heading out right and you see the safety crashing down to come meet Rashad White.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You see a lot of eyes heading and bodies heading in the right direction because you have Rashad White coming out here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You have Bucky Irving heading in that direction.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You have a little bit of a play fake to him and we are going back in the other direction to Chris Godwin on the screen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: We need Tristan Worf to execute a block.

  [SPEAKER_00]: One of the most athletic tackles in the game today.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously the knee injury there with Tristan Warps and unfortunate situation, but I think this is the type of play where you can see Britain's strength blocking for Travis Hunter blocking for Brian Thomas Jr.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Can Walker little get out and make this play?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you can.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I know Anton Harrison can get out and make that play on the right side.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Easy first down for Chris Godwin.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Very simple stuff there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's good stuff right there from Liam Cohen and the buck's offense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Mike Evans again isolated on the right side, one back in the back field, and we've got a bubble screen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, we've got the all the receivers releasing vertically up the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jalen McMillan stops, comes back to the quarterback.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Baker may feel delivers an easy ball to catch.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a play where it's second four and we're just trying to get that first down.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Trying to keep the change moving, trying to stay on time and on schedule for this offensive drive and just pick up an easy first down.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This is a way that Liam Cohen routinely does that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And all you have to see here is it's three on two up here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This safety is far enough off that it's not going to make a big difference.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you can see him taking steps backwards, anticipating vertical routes here at the snap.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So you've got K-Dotton and Chris Godwin to good blockers.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And it's an easy pick up for a first down for Dale and McMillan, even with the defender defensive lineman bearing down on him there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The defensive lineman's able to make and you're going to be able to move the chains.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's nothing fancy.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's nothing crazy, but it's simple.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's executed well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And it's something that I think you could see again.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Britain's Strange, a Diami Brown, a Parker Washington, even Brian Thomas Jr.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter executing this type of play to move the chains for the Jaguars in second and medium, second and short.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So basically, the variety, the misdirection, the pre-snap movement, the different alignments, the coaching of the offensive line, of the receivers, the execution, all of these are critical and important factors that help the bucks in their screen game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that Liam Cohen can do that same thing here in Jacksonville.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, it's going to take Trevor Lawrence having timing and touch.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to take Travis ETN, Basial Tut and Lee Quint Allen, Brian Thomas Jr.

  [SPEAKER_00]: and Travis Hunter, all players that are talented with the ball in their hands, doing what they do and having the offensive linemen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Other receivers, tight ends.

  [SPEAKER_00]: getting the job done in this regard as space blockers, which is a lot different than obviously blocking close to the line of scrimmage, close to the center of the field, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Getting out in space is a different beast, so which players really do that at a high level?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Britain's strange.

  [SPEAKER_00]: can be a boon for the Jaguar blocking in the screen game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that Anton Harrison getting out and blocking in front of receivers in the screen game with his athleticism can be really impressive if he's able to end up winning that starting job, but it's going to take a full team effort.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The beautiful thing about it is it can make your life so much easier if you can execute as a team on screens.
