Latest / The Regulars / No Holds Barred: World Cup Is Incredible, Honoring Juneteenth, Exposing MLB Homophobia
Transcript
- 0:00Hi. Welcome to an amazing Friday night. That's right. It is a Friday night. You're having
- 0:15a drink with your best friends. We have a candle because we wanted everything to smell
- 0:19great and get like the vibes in the air. That's right.
- 0:23This candle exists purely because someone else in the homestead decided I was a little
- 0:28too stressed out. Guys, we're getting the vibes right. We're in the middle of the World
- 0:33Cup. Scotland just dropped their game 1-0. I'm very proud of them, Scots. U.S. is up.
- 0:39Phenomenal stuff. You're with your friends, the regulars. I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:45I feel like you're trying to do that for my benefit, but it's going to freak me out if
- 0:48you keep doing it. I'm Tanya Ray Fox.
- 0:50It is absolutely for your benefit.
- 0:51I do not need that.
- 0:52Tanya's having a rough day, and I'm not going to lie to you. I'm a little banged up because
- 0:55I went to a pub and watched the U.S. and then Scotland, so I'm feeling phenomenal.
- 1:00You're feeling less phenomenal.
- 1:03We'll see how this goes. No, I'm fine.
- 1:05Oh, no. Make no mistake. I'm furious because I know what's on the rundown today.
- 1:09Yeah, it's an interesting run. We have fun stuff to start out with because it's soccer
- 1:13and that's been great. Association, football, football, anything you want to call it. That's
- 1:18what we're going to do.
- 1:20We need to rename American football now. That's where I'm at now.
- 1:24We're going to talk about this.
- 1:25We're going to close out the show with the conversation around some of this stuff because
- 1:29it's really tough. We're going to be hammered by the end of the show before we actually
- 1:32do do that. I feel like we should acknowledge that today is Juneteenth and hopefully all
- 1:38of our black American friends are day off enjoying their day being having their businesses
- 1:44supported, having their work and their art supported, having feeling their day being
- 1:50honored.
- 1:51Can't stress this enough. If you do not know the history of Juneteenth, you should very,
- 1:55very much look up your American history and discover why we celebrate this and why it
- 2:00is a very important day. And I do think it is a very educational day.
- 2:04And frankly, if you are one of the inbred shit hooks that I've already dealt with
- 2:10plenty today on social media, fuck you for openers and to read a book.
- 2:17And I know that's a little tricky because the concept of reading is very, very complicated.
- 2:22That being said, figure it out. The end hooked on phonics. Sound out the words and just your
- 2:28intellectual curiosity will lead you to learn something really beautiful about this country
- 2:34and something really heartbreaking.
- 2:36At the same time, that is the story of America. If you want to, if you want to tell yourself
- 2:40a fairy tale, open up the Brothers Grimm, right? If you want to actually know your own
- 2:46history and feel the empathy and the sympathy and the compassion and the camaraderie and
- 2:51the patriotism of a day that is meant to honor the truth of this country, then do that.
- 2:58It's really not that hard. And you don't have to take it personally.
- 3:01It's funny you say that. It's funny, actually, how you describe that, because it's so funny
- 3:05because, you know, like the I'm a history major in college, especially my main focus
- 3:10was early colonial history.
- 3:11And I love American early colonial history.
- 3:14That being said, I did a lot of classes specifically like on the early, early South and how the
- 3:18South was formed and how the different sects of Christianity were a part of each different
- 3:22state before the unification of the United States.
- 3:25And it's fascinating how we as a people truly do not understand how this country was formed.
- 3:35Not truly don't understand how when especially when I hear Christian nationalists specifically
- 3:41describe this place as, well, we're a Christian country.
- 3:45That is just blatantly untrue.
- 3:47And also, I'd follow up the question, which Christian?
- 3:50They were about nine different Christian sects that were sect within separate states altogether.
- 3:57And by the way, I've heard actual some of those Christian nationalists saying, well,
- 4:00it's part of those state laws.
- 4:02Yeah, that was before the, you know, United fucking states.
- 4:06But that's just, you know, that's history, which you can read about and learn about.
- 4:10It's just so tricky for certain people because they just don't like being told the truth
- 4:15about their history, which, by the way, your history can absolutely inform you for your
- 4:18present and your future.
- 4:20But because reasons, yeah, I feel like, you know, there's always this under there's always
- 4:28this feeling I get, I get called a self hating white a lot by white men specifically, but
- 4:33I love me on the Internet.
- 4:35I get called that a lot.
- 4:36And when I'm taking response, when I'm just simply talking about white nationalism and
- 4:42white violence on minority groups and things like that are real fun.
- 4:45And it's always so interesting to me because I'm like the most interesting part of that
- 4:51is that I actually have so much.
- 4:55I feel so much more self-worth and so much less stress and anxiety about my place in
- 5:01the world and my place in history and what I carry on by acknowledging it, by fighting
- 5:06for the people that I love, by fighting for my communities.
- 5:09And guess what?
- 5:10They love and respect me and there's mutual love and respect.
- 5:15That whole idea that I like I have to suffer for the sins of like, no, I don't.
- 5:21I don't.
- 5:22I actually like by by acknowledging it, I feel like I've created much stronger bonds
- 5:26with people.
- 5:27And so like this is the most loving I've ever been.
- 5:31It's not like I was always able to have these kind of conversations.
- 5:34It's not like I was never the kind of white person who got defensive or had my hackles
- 5:37up.
- 5:38Of course, I was like white in America like that.
- 5:41Those experiences are going to happen.
- 5:43I am such and I still learn all the time.
- 5:47And it just like just deconstructing the need to feel defensive when people throw a critique
- 5:51your way is like the greatest feeling in the fucking world because it takes such a burden
- 5:57off of you.
- 5:58You realize you can be wrong.
- 6:00You can be misled.
- 6:01You can see the world like through a lens that's not fair.
- 6:04And then guess what happens?
- 6:05Nothing.
- 6:06Nothing.
- 6:07Learn, grow.
- 6:08And everybody literally nothing.
- 6:09Everybody's as long as you say, my bad, then that's all that.
- 6:14It's fascinating.
- 6:15Again, it's also in like actual life, just taking responsibility, even for the things
- 6:19that aren't necessarily a responsibility, just acknowledging that they exist.
- 6:23So tricky for certain sects of this place.
- 6:25But listen, we got lots to cover today.
- 6:27And let's be real clear.
- 6:29There is a lot of things in here that are going to be very passionate conversations
- 6:32about, one of which that I personally have a very big, passionate thought about.
- 6:38I'm looking very forward to talking about it.
- 6:40Probably a bad idea that I drink as much as I do today.
- 6:42That being said, we drink on this show every time.
- 6:43Luckily this show is sort of built for that level of energy.
- 6:46We are.
- 6:47But the good news is we drink on this show every time.
- 6:49So it doesn't really matter.
- 6:50We do.
- 6:51Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's time for headlines.
- 6:54Tanya, give us our first headline.
- 6:56Okay, so I don't know if you heard, I actually know you did because you were down the street
- 7:01at the Irish.
- 7:02Buddy, I love this.
- 7:03I love this World Cup.
- 7:04Yes.
- 7:05It's fucking magic.
- 7:06The USA defeated Australia 2-0 to advance to the knockout round, despite Christian Pulisic's
- 7:11absence.
- 7:12This was not a shock to me, even knowing Pulisic was going to be out.
- 7:17Did you know that or did you assume that?
- 7:19Because they did announce it prior to the game.
- 7:21No, they announced it prior to the thing, but we were speculating all week.
- 7:24I was wondering if this was going to be gamesmanship.
- 7:27I was wondering if it's either gamesmanship or honestly, Pulisic's.
- 7:30I was pretty sure he wasn't.
- 7:31Well, then that means Pulisic's fucking cap is way worse than the Raxxons' cap.
- 7:35I don't think so.
- 7:36I do think that they saw the opportunity in front of them.
- 7:39They are pretty deep at the position.
- 7:41They're deep enough.
- 7:43Part of what I'm going to get into here is that they actually had a pairing to go into
- 7:45this game with that has been proven to be incredibly successful.
- 7:48Geo?
- 7:49No.
- 7:50Pepe with Finn.
- 7:54With Bella Goon and Pepe together, they were already a super successful duo and they haven't
- 8:00played a ton of minutes, but there was evidence that they would work out really well.
- 8:03I guess what I'm saying is I wasn't super scared.
- 8:06Did I think that they were definitely going to win?
- 8:08No.
- 8:09Again, you want to see what you saw last game.
- 8:11You want to see things again.
- 8:14After this game, I feel like there was a sense of, okay, we knew the win over Paraguay was
- 8:18good, but we just saw the same fight, the same passion, the same excitement, the same
- 8:24energy, the same speed, and all of the things like we saw everything we need to see against
- 8:29a slightly better team, a slightly more well-rounded team, and a team that they've had physical
- 8:34altercations with in the past.
- 8:36This is a team that's gotten physical, they've gotten chippy in their last game against them,
- 8:40and we saw everything we needed to see.
- 8:43This is the first time since the debut World Cup in 1930, in the inaugural tournament,
- 8:48that the U.S. has won consecutive matches at a World Cup.
- 8:52This doesn't happen.
- 8:53I don't care what you tell me about the pool, about the draw.
- 8:55I don't give a fuck what you're talking.
- 8:57I don't care.
- 8:58It doesn't happen.
- 9:00And this is something I'm going to bring up first, as we talk through the game and what
- 9:06people are saying narratively about the USA right now.
- 9:11This is the second game in a row where they've gotten an own goal, and it's the first time
- 9:15in FIFA World Cup history where a team has benefited from an own goal in two consecutive
- 9:20matches.
- 9:21Talk to me.
- 9:23There is a sentiment that I've already seen expressed by USA haters, which I understand
- 9:27it's the World Cup, you're supposed to have haters, it's fine, that they're celebrating
- 9:32an own goal, who cares, they're getting lucky.
- 9:35Here's the thing about own goals, Cody.
- 9:38Sometimes they're just bad plays, you fucked up, and the other team gets lucky.
- 9:42Sometimes.
- 9:44That's not what...
- 9:45A lot of times, they're like what these goals have been, which is you're pressing, you're
- 9:49counter-attack, your speed is so overwhelming that once you get into the box and you're
- 9:54flying in there the way that Balagoon does, you mess up.
- 9:59The only reason that those goals are being scored is because our players, our strikers,
- 10:06our forwards are absolutely pressing the shit out of the defense, and they're scrambling,
- 10:09panicking, and making mistakes.
- 10:11And by the way, if that goal hadn't gone off of Australia, it was going off of Balagoon's
- 10:16foot anyway.
- 10:17And by the way, to up your point, we just watched Scotland versus Morocco, right?
- 10:22By the way, it ended up being a one-nil match that ended up going Morocco's way.
- 10:25I was way into Scotland this entire time, but I kept talking to everybody that was around
- 10:29me like, shit, here's the problem, Morocco's bigger, they're faster, they're more physical,
- 10:35that's the problem.
- 10:36So basically, Scotland's got to be little rabbits and fucking outlast them a little
- 10:40bit, but at the end of the day, you saw that at the first five minutes of the match when
- 10:45Morocco got their point.
- 10:47And it was fascinating to see, and by the way, good for Scotland, they kind of readjusted
- 10:50as the match went on, but they were just overmatched early on, and it was exactly like watching
- 10:56US versus Australia, exactly like it.
- 11:00Yep.
- 11:01And that is why I think it's really important that people hold a little bit of nuance, or
- 11:05if they don't watch the game that often, listen to people talk about why, first of all, own
- 11:10goals are a thing that happen in other sports.
- 11:12We see it in hockey.
- 11:13All the time.
- 11:15This is a new concept to us.
- 11:17And they are very often a result of the skill of the offense and the panicking of the defense.
- 11:24And I think that that's what happened in both games.
- 11:28You've watched both games now, both full games?
- 11:31Oh, yeah.
- 11:32Okay, so for you, as a slightly more casual fan-
- 11:37No, no, I'll freely admit this.
- 11:40I want to make this abundantly clear.
- 11:41I'm a casual.
- 11:42I'm a novice.
- 11:43I was a novice, and I've turned into more of a casual over the last maybe three years.
- 11:47I'm so into this, and right now, I'm trying to learn as much as I humanly can because
- 11:52I have so many gaps in my soccer knowledge, but I'm loving the game.
- 11:56I'm loving watching how it's formed.
- 11:58And dude, I didn't realize just how, and I mentioned this earlier in the week, I didn't
- 12:02realize how much I've been missing in the world of soccer.
- 12:05And the truthness of this is time zone, that's it.
- 12:09Nothing else.
- 12:10Time zone.
- 12:11We don't have the best soccer in the United States.
- 12:12The best soccer is everywhere else.
- 12:14And watching the best of the world in an actual time frame where I watch all my sports, dude,
- 12:21it's night and day.
- 12:22I get it.
- 12:23I fucking get it.
- 12:24I'm furious we don't have this all year round now.
- 12:26So we do in some ways, in some, like, I mean, so today, the energy of that game in Seattle,
- 12:32that's how Seattle watches soccer.
- 12:34That shit was-
- 12:35Oh, I've heard Seattle, Portland too, same shit.
- 12:38I understand that.
- 12:39There's some amazing, there have been some energy, like USA, Mexico games in Los Angeles,
- 12:43same vibe.
- 12:44I agree, but I'm not into it.
- 12:45Right, exactly.
- 12:46No, right.
- 12:47So you're getting to finally witness it in a space where you're actually paying attention.
- 12:50What I was going to ask you is for you as a more casual fan, because I find this super
- 12:53fascinating, like, which player, you know, outside of the, outside of Pulisic and Balagoon,
- 12:59who we know are sort of whatever, is there a player that's standing out to you as you've
- 13:03been watching?
- 13:04But Gio hasn't really played.
- 13:05He didn't play today.
- 13:06I know, but when he has, he was like electric.
- 13:07I just saw him speak.
- 13:08Today you watched a game.
- 13:09Like, is there a player that like, that's actually, I know you were in a bar.
- 13:12It's loud.
- 13:13So I can't answer that real, realistically because I was at a bar and it was loud.
- 13:17And by the way, the bar I was at was fucking packed.
- 13:19No, I thought it was really fascinating that he didn't bring Gio in until the final like
- 13:22minute or two of the game.
- 13:23Yeah, no, but I'm talking about the previous game.
- 13:24No, no, no, but I'm actually, he hasn't brought the, like, Gio's come on late in both games
- 13:27and really late in this game.
- 13:29And I do think that that's a tactical decision.
- 13:31I do think that that's-
- 13:32Influencing speed late on?
- 13:33Yeah, well, certainly that.
- 13:35And like, he's very young still, despite the fact that he's like married and having
- 13:40a kid or whatever.
- 13:41Which is funny because like last go around, like they were making the excuse that he was
- 13:43so young and that's where all the problems were coming from.
- 13:46Well, he, but he was, I mean, I know, but yeah, that's how young he was then.
- 13:49It was real.
- 13:50And that's how young he was then.
- 13:51But even still, he, you know, he's still like, I think somebody that they feel like a little
- 13:57bit rogue, maybe someone they don't necessarily want to have to entrust to.
- 14:01These first halves have been incredible.
- 14:03They've been tacticians, really.
- 14:05And I am interested to see how they use Gio moving forward, because what I do think also
- 14:10they're doing is that they're not showing their hand too early because the only way
- 14:14a team like the United States beats one of the teams that is very clearly better than
- 14:19them, which by the way, that happens.
- 14:20That's tournaments.
- 14:21That's how this goes.
- 14:22Teams beat teams better than them all the time.
- 14:25So the only way-
- 14:26We've watched it already in this tournament.
- 14:27The only way that it happens is if, if a Gio comes in and they don't know what the
- 14:33fuck to do with him.
- 14:34Right.
- 14:35If you like, you know, like they, they ran with two strikers today, which I actually
- 14:38told Chris, I was like, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be shocked if they did that.
- 14:43He was skeptical.
- 14:44I was right.
- 14:45I'm always right.
- 14:46But like, you know what I mean?
- 14:48Like this is, this is a, they have some pretty explosive offensive players and Gio is nuts.
- 14:53He, his talent level is higher than like essentially anybody.
- 14:57It's fucking noticeable.
- 14:58Anybody we've ever fully developed Balogun.
- 15:00We did not develop, obviously like completely, I mean, he's, I'm so glad we have him so glad
- 15:05he's becoming a strong member of the United States national team, but like grew up in,
- 15:11in England.
- 15:12Right.
- 15:13So Gio is-
- 15:14It's cool that he's playing for us though.
- 15:15I knew he was born in New York and all.
- 15:17So like-
- 15:18Yeah.
- 15:19It's just, it's so funny.
- 15:20Like he literally was born in New York because his mom couldn't travel.
- 15:22She like was supposed to go home back to London and give birth, but she got stuck here
- 15:27because she was too far along and they wouldn't put her on a plane.
- 15:29How weird is this though?
- 15:30Like not weird.
- 15:31I should, I should rephrase that.
- 15:32How, um, if he comes out of this world cup as like a star, which very well could really
- 15:37happen and say, we go a little bit further and say further than England.
- 15:42Yeah.
- 15:43How is that going to taste for England?
- 15:44I'm perfectly fine with it because most of England's team is, you know, are, are, uh,
- 15:50the sons of immigrants or immigrants themselves.
- 15:52You know, so many of those players are, have their roots in other nations, uh, who've come
- 15:58and built a life, whether it was their parents or whoever else in England.
- 16:02Um, and that country spent their entire existence colonizing the fuck out of the entire world.
- 16:08They do?
- 16:09No!
- 16:10They were always nice.
- 16:12I'm perfectly fine to take one of their fucking, uh, soccer players and beat them.
- 16:16Oh, they, yeah.
- 16:17That makes sense actually.
- 16:18I agree.
- 16:20That makes sense to me.
- 16:21Um, the other thing I wanted to ask you about was a couple of the other, um, the other games
- 16:25that we've seen before we talk about what could happen going forward with the United
- 16:27States.
- 16:28So Canada cutter, I don't know if you saw what happened in that game, that, that, that
- 16:33compound fracture was the ugliest thing.
- 16:35It was really, really red, two red cards, fucking, and then of course two red cards
- 16:39ended up, uh, six Oh bludgeoning obviously, but you're playing 11 on nine.
- 16:44What do you expect?
- 16:45Yes.
- 16:46So, you know, it's skewed a little bit, but also you've got to hand it to Canada.
- 16:50Like it's actually still incredibly difficult to play a game after you've watched your teammate
- 16:54break their leg.
- 16:55Dude, he didn't break his leg.
- 16:56He fucking, that was a tomahawk.
- 16:58Yeah, it was.
- 16:59I mean, this was like, like Alex Smith, Joe, Joe, scary and lucky.
- 17:06Like I've been having it on my, my morning show.
- 17:07I've been having, um, Charlie Davies on, um, and if you don't know his background, Charlie
- 17:11Davies got in this bad car accident where he had the exact same injury and he had to
- 17:15get up, uh, you know, pull through his leg and all the same injury.
- 17:19Like it just happened to happen on a soccer field.
- 17:21Like when you see that, dude, I've never, so I've been watching soccer a long time.
- 17:26That was, I was actually like, uh, really, I was really thrown cause it happened and
- 17:32it was so obvious and the, and it was so gruesome right away that the reaction on the field
- 17:37was immediate.
- 17:38We see it in football a lot, but we don't see that in soccer as much.
- 17:42And like there was a coach who, who was yelling stuff about what he'd seen and we've overheard
- 17:46it on the mic.
- 17:47It was a lot.
- 17:48Um, so incredibly tough game to watch.
- 17:51It was, it was, it was so cool to watch Canada score, but it kind of sucked the wind out
- 17:55of me.
- 17:56Like it was, it was rough.
- 17:57Um, I got to talk to you about Mexico, South Korea, cause Chris and I watched that entire
- 18:01game last night.
- 18:02Chris, obviously I was roots for Mexico, but I have to, I have to tell you, I was like,
- 18:09and I, I, we got to the end of the game.
- 18:11I was like, they haven't taken a fucking corner kick.
- 18:13There's been no set pieces.
- 18:14The, the referee I've never seen in a world cup, the referees swallow their whistle like
- 18:19this, because these two teams were basically playing like keep away from each other at
- 18:23the entire game.
- 18:24They were very skilled players, but like both lack the speed for a counterattack.
- 18:29And so I was like, I feel like I'm watching, like when I used to referee, like you 16 players,
- 18:34I was like, come on guys, let's get something going here.
- 18:37And the referees weren't calling shit.
- 18:39They were not going to call shit.
- 18:40I have never gone a game that long without seeing a corner kick or a set piece or something.
- 18:45I was like, I'm bored as fuck.
- 18:46Do you think this had anything to do with the first Mexico game?
- 18:49Because there were three red cards in that match.
- 18:51I think so.
- 18:52I think so too.
- 18:53Although I thought of the entire time.
- 18:54It's always about the crew because each crew does have their own, uh, uh, tendencies just
- 18:57like in any sport, like that certain crews will use cards to try to stop the, um, to,
- 19:05you know, sort of stem the, the bleeding when it comes to an overly aggressive and overly
- 19:11violent game, they'll use cards to try to stop it.
- 19:13Sometimes it actually has the opposite effect and that's what happened in that game.
- 19:16It was a boring game, but the, but the moments that were intense were incredibly intense.
- 19:22The game saving, if it weren't for that game saving goal, I would not remember that game,
- 19:26but not to mention also the other game saver, which would have actually been called back
- 19:29due to offsides anyways, but the, like basically the wheel kick the guy did right at the end
- 19:33of the goal.
- 19:34Well, there, yes, there was that.
- 19:35And then the goalie on the second shot, the second shot hand from God type, but the second
- 19:42shot I looked at it more as a bill Buckner thing.
- 19:44No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 19:45That's the skill it takes to do what he did in that moment.
- 19:48I read more of the goalie who had the ball talking about the goalie landed onto his own
- 19:53defense.
- 19:54I'm talking about the goalie.
- 19:55So that moment, no, that wasn't fucking incredible.
- 19:59So in that moment, when you're talking about two different plays, we're talking about the
- 20:02Mexican goaltender.
- 20:03Is that what you're talking about?
- 20:05I'm talking about the, the, the actual point in the match.
- 20:07I apologize.
- 20:08At the end of the game.
- 20:09No, I saw it.
- 20:10It was amazing.
- 20:11When Korea almost got the, the, the game's tying goal, that was a really crazy save.
- 20:17I was, I was like, I don't think I've ever seen someone make it.
- 20:20I've never seen somebody make a save like that.
- 20:22Like I've seen the bounce.
- 20:23I've seen that grab it and you lose, you know, and you, you, you know, it goes back into
- 20:27play and you dive again.
- 20:29But the, what he did was awesome.
- 20:30So that did now I'm that's memorable for me.
- 20:33Incredibly.
- 20:34And you know what else was memorable was Mexico's goal because I felt so bad because the Korean
- 20:39goaltender had it fucking had it and just landed on his own defenseman, lost the ball
- 20:46and he was just on the ground with an open goal.
- 20:49It was, I was like, Oh, that is so fucked brutal, brutal way to lose that, that fucking
- 20:55a potential draw.
- 20:56Cause you imagine those two teams drew, Oh my God.
- 20:59I mean, didn't, I was happy that that's not what happened because my household would have
- 21:03been bombed.
- 21:04True.
- 21:05But it would have been four points for your household still.
- 21:07Like you guys would have probably still moved on to knockouts, but we have lots of rooting
- 21:11interests.
- 21:12Um, one of the other rooting interests that we have is the England team because we do
- 21:15watch so, so much premier league soccer and as you see me say that again, premier league
- 21:22soccer.
- 21:23It's prem year.
- 21:24I've watched all of our fucking wonderful comments from these phenomenal, not at all
- 21:32gate goal, gatekeeping, fucking fans.
- 21:35I can't even.
- 21:36Unbelievable.
- 21:37Unbelievable.
- 21:38Here's what's funny.
- 21:39Do you know where that alarm was actually coming up through?
- 21:42Not through my phone, not through my laptop, through the computer over there.
- 21:45Yeah, no, I had it too.
- 21:46Sorry.
- 21:47Sorry, Mocha.
- 21:48Sorry about that Mocha.
- 21:49Yeah, I do.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:51This is on Mocha.
- 21:52This is Mocha's fault.
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:54Um, anyways, we, uh, the goalkeeper is the goalkeeper we root for in, on England.
- 21:55Uh, England, Croatia really, that's like one of the best in terms of talent, in terms
- 21:56of like expectation.
- 21:57Those are two of the better teams and the most experienced teams.
- 21:58Luka Modric is one of the best players in the world for the last few years.
- 21:59I'm sorry, for the last fucking 15 minutes.
- 22:00I'm sorry.
- 22:01I gotta get the lingo down.
- 22:02I agree.
- 22:03Phenomenal match.
- 22:04Phenomenal.
- 22:05Every one of them.
- 22:06Every one of them.
- 22:07Every one of them.
- 22:08Every one of them.
- 22:09Every one of them.
- 22:10Every one of them.
- 22:11Every one of them.
- 22:12Every one of them.
- 22:13I gotta be honest.
- 22:25I had high hopes for England.
- 22:27I love a lot of those players.
- 22:29I love the Kaya Saka.
- 22:30I love Marcus Rashford.
- 22:31I love like so many of the players on that team.
- 22:34Uh, what?
- 22:35Oh, love Harry Kane.
- 22:36Okay.
- 22:37Goals in that fucking just Harry, by the way, just Harry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, Harry,
- 22:44like share.
- 22:45Um, Harry Kane had probably the best international game I've ever seen him have top to bottom,
- 22:49like to watch him, the way that he ran the field reminded me so much of a, of a, like
- 22:56a quarterback or a point guard at their very best, where he just do where everything was
- 23:00happening all the time for him to have a goal saving defensive play at the end of the game.
- 23:04After having two scores, almost another one, he was fucking amazing.
- 23:08And the depth that they were bringing in off the bench was nuts.
- 23:11I had to Cody, that team is fucking terrifying.
- 23:14It's a terrifying squad because the, the, the adjustments that they made in the second
- 23:20half to bring in more energy and speed.
- 23:22And then who you were seeing them bring in was like, bro, what, that's who you have on
- 23:26the bench.
- 23:27Like, fuck me, dude.
- 23:28That's, it was insane.
- 23:29Bro.
- 23:30I'm going to walk away from this tournament being the biggest fucking soccer.
- 23:31Yeah.
- 23:32Like I am so fucking addicted to this shit now.
- 23:34Uh, and it's been like, it all freely, but I even made it on the other show.
- 23:38Here's the deal.
- 23:39Dude.
- 23:40When it was launching, you're like, yeah, like I'll watch.
- 23:42We're cool.
- 23:43Nah, dude.
- 23:44He's in.
- 23:45He's it.
- 23:46It's like that.
- 23:47We didn't think we were going to love the NBA finals.
- 23:48We love the NBA playoffs.
- 23:49I love this.
- 23:50I fucking get it.
- 23:51Yeah.
- 23:52I, I'm, I'm mad that I never did before.
- 23:54I'm loving this shit.
- 23:55It is amazing shit and it has nothing to do with team USA.
- 23:59Hell, I'm rooting for Scotland more than many other fucking team in my life right now.
- 24:03I love, I love, I love so many teams.
- 24:05So that's like the good fun part.
- 24:07Capo Verde.
- 24:08Fucking you kidding me?
- 24:10I can't wait to see my DC Congo.
- 24:12Are you shitting me with DC Congo?
- 24:15Also that, that incredibly hot goaltender.
- 24:18That's like six foot six.
- 24:20I forget what country he's from, but like, I don't know if you've seen him, but like
- 24:23he's one of the six foot six.
- 24:25This one is even hotter than I forget his name.
- 24:29I'll send it to you.
- 24:32He's like literally one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen.
- 24:35The only thing we need to talk about before we move on to the potential USA matchups in
- 24:41the future is Messi scored a fucking hat trick at age 39.
- 24:46Yes.
- 24:47He's turning 39 in like four days.
- 24:48The pedants on the internet were like, he's actually still 38.
- 24:53He's actually still 38.
- 24:54He's not going to be out there.
- 24:55How about this?
- 24:56I'm 39 right now.
- 24:57I'm an ex pro athlete right now.
- 24:59I can't fuck.
- 25:00I'm not even positive I can hit a baseball if it's pitched.
- 25:02On what planet are we nitpicking a week?
- 25:04It's not like he's going to be 39 two months from now.
- 25:08How about this?
- 25:09You know what my actual takeaway from this is?
- 25:10And now this is my, are you going to do the Cristiano Ronaldo thing?
- 25:14You are, and here's the reason why I'm going.
- 25:18I can't wait to hear.
- 25:19No, I actually really want to hear this because like the casual take on this is really, it's
- 25:23actually really interesting.
- 25:24No, I'm not.
- 25:25I'm not going to sit here.
- 25:26Have the goat conversation with anybody.
- 25:27That's not what the conversation is.
- 25:28I swear to God.
- 25:29It's just watching the dichotomy of two different people and how they're treated by their own
- 25:32team.
- 25:33Uh, okay.
- 25:34That's my takeaway.
- 25:35I'm watching how, how Ronaldo is treated by Portugal compared to how Argentina treats
- 25:44messy.
- 25:45Ladies and gentlemen, I know who the goat is based on what the reaction on the field
- 25:50was.
- 25:51So that one team was not only setting it up and one guy was manipulating the field and
- 25:56taking care of fucking everything and then was taken off the field with his own teammates
- 26:00and fucking coaches with tears in their goddamn eyes, hugging him as he's removed from the
- 26:04field earlier.
- 26:05And the other watching with utter frustration, his teammates having to deal with a 41 year
- 26:12old man who hasn't realized that he's lost a lot of steps.
- 26:16So he knows.
- 26:17And that's the problem is, um, that's their biggest issue with Ronaldo.
- 26:20Ronaldo's actually always been a really good, not an international player.
- 26:24He's old and shouldn't be on the roster and if he's going to be on the roster, he should
- 26:29come in as a super sub, he would be a great super sub still, but he's going to force being
- 26:33a starter.
- 26:34Whereas messy still has the juice to do what he's doing.
- 26:36In fact, he's, he's adjusted his game to do what he's doing.
- 26:38What are those?
- 26:39What was it?
- 26:40The stealth bombers that like, you can't see them until it's too late.
- 26:44That's what he feels like on the field where it's like, he's almost shadowing everything
- 26:49that's happening.
- 26:50Like there, he's like just a presence.
- 26:52And then out of nowhere, there he is fucking messy.
- 26:55Right.
- 26:56And he used to be a, an omnipresent part of the way that the game was being played.
- 27:01And over the last, I would say five or six years, he's become what we see now, which
- 27:05is an incredible evolution.
- 27:07Um, and the reality is like, you know, I love the jokes about, about the fact that he had
- 27:14a hat trick and I think there was, did you see the one where it was like messy three
- 27:18goals and then it was Ronaldo to hydration breaks.
- 27:21Funny.
- 27:22Funny.
- 27:23I understand what all the talk and the narratives are and talking points are.
- 27:26I think it's really great.
- 27:27No.
- 27:28And I think it's great too, but it's, and Ronaldo deserves it.
- 27:29And listen, messy and Ronaldo are both kind of assholes.
- 27:31They're, they're goat level athletes with way too many fucking fans.
- 27:35Like these people have like, like 600 million Instagram followers.
- 27:38They're not normal level famous.
- 27:39So I like, it's not, it's not a personality thing.
- 27:43It's, it's really just like, you know, it's really fascinating to see people talk about
- 27:46it now as if the idea that Ronaldo was included in the conversation ever is crazy.
- 27:52And I, I hate that.
- 27:53Like I'm not, I don't think that's fair.
- 27:54I'm not a big, I'm not a big, like hate casuals person.
- 27:57Cause I actually love when people get into the thing I love.
- 28:00That's like, I'm not a gatekeeper.
- 28:01I do think when you come into something and you're like, well, it's so obvious, messy,
- 28:05so good now.
- 28:06And when all those not anymore, it's like, guys, there, there was there, this was a,
- 28:11first of all, he's two and a half years older than him, but secondly, this conversation
- 28:14up, I mean, it was going up until messy finally won a cup, which was like, it was only four
- 28:21or five years ago.
- 28:22Right.
- 28:24Well, messy won the cup.
- 28:25One last cup.
- 28:26Yeah.
- 28:27Right.
- 28:28But like right before that, when he was like started winning, cause I think they won the
- 28:29gold cup too.
- 28:30And that was like, okay.
- 28:31Real question.
- 28:32Is this the year that finally friends can get it done?
- 28:35Stephen A. Smith.
- 28:37What?
- 28:38No, this is my question.
- 28:39Will they finally get it done?
- 28:41Will him Bobby finally get it done and Bobby the, like the biggest, can he finally, can
- 28:49France finally get it done?
- 28:51I can't believe they let him still talk.
- 28:53I can't fucking believe the world.
- 28:56It's really frustrating.
- 28:57Fucking embarrassing.
- 28:59Real quick.
- 29:00We're going to move on to the next thing, which is going to be tough.
- 29:02So we're going to enjoy this a little bit more, but there's a couple options for what
- 29:06could happen to the United States in the next round.
- 29:09So they are actually a hundred percent moving on to the knockout rounds, which is amazing.
- 29:13And this is all going to like, you know, they win the group if Paraguay beats Turkey.
- 29:20If Paraguay and Turkey draw, U.S. wins the group.
- 29:22The only way they don't automatically win the group is if Turkey wins, then the winner
- 29:27is decided in the final group of matches.
- 29:29So the very likely situation is that USA wins their group, which is group D.
- 29:36Should they win?
- 29:39There are like a bunch of options that they could play.
- 29:42And one of those options is Germany.
- 29:44The Netherlands a potential, Sweden's a potential, France and Senegal are potentials.
- 29:49So like, there's a lot of incredible teams that they could go on to play.
- 29:52There's also teams that are like, you know, they're kind of in the middle of this.
- 29:57So there's a lot of options here where we could see the United States get a knockout
- 30:02win.
- 30:03And I just want to be quite honest, I just want Morocco knocked out.
- 30:07I mean, I don't think Morocco is on the table.
- 30:10Yeah, they're not.
- 30:11Good.
- 30:12I just want Morocco out.
- 30:13As long as Morocco is out.
- 30:14I'm happy.
- 30:15Morocco is not on the table.
- 30:16Honestly, they'd be in better.
- 30:17They'd probably be in better shape if they finished second in group D, because then they'd
- 30:21get New Zealand, Iran, Belgium or Egypt.
- 30:23There's an expert who is Moroccan, who I hate so much that I just want him in pain.
- 30:28Yeah.
- 30:29I guess this is all to say that, like, I don't think it's crazy to think that they could
- 30:33get a knockout win and move on to the next round, which is incredible.
- 30:38Like, it's I don't think it's crazy to think that there's so many.
- 30:41There are so many variables to winning these games.
- 30:44I mean, when you have when you have momentum and you have the home crowd, I know you do
- 30:48you know the history of like the these international tournaments, home teams just having this incredible
- 30:53advantage.
- 30:54It happens in the World Cup.
- 30:55It happens in the Olympics.
- 30:56Having home field advantage is a huge thing in these world tournaments.
- 30:59And so, you know, I could see it happening.
- 31:02Listen, we saw it today and I even sent you the video.
- 31:05I know it's on the show today, but they asked a yes or no question after USA won that match.
- 31:11And I don't think Zlatan's answer would have been exactly the same before the match.
- 31:15It wasn't.
- 31:16So that Thierry Henry and Zlatan both were speaking about the United States as let's
- 31:21see how far they can get.
- 31:22I think this team is talented enough.
- 31:23They can't win the cup.
- 31:24They said that outright.
- 31:25Yeah.
- 31:26And then after this match, that was not the same fucking capable of lying.
- 31:30I know.
- 31:31Like so.
- 31:32So for him to say that was like, OK, that's fascinating.
- 31:34And I think part I think it has less to do with the United States and more to do with
- 31:38the amount of parody we've seen across the tournament in general.
- 31:43Nobody has looked like a world changer except for the couple of teams who are great teams
- 31:48who played genuinely teams not on their level.
- 31:51For the most part, the parody has been insane.
- 31:53So I think people are like, wait a second, this could be anyone's cup.
- 31:57And listen, I mean, 22 years ago, Greece won the Euros or I think it was 24 years ago.
- 32:05Greece won the Euros.
- 32:06They beat Portugal.
- 32:09Greece doesn't win tournaments like that.
- 32:12And if you look at how they did it, if you look what happened, how it happened, that
- 32:15they got there, it was all these little strokes of luck.
- 32:18David Beckham missing his fucking penalty kick, like all these little moments when he
- 32:23was up against Portugal.
- 32:24And so then they don't have to deal with England and oh, you don't know what can happen.
- 32:28So what are they saying in that?
- 32:30What is it?
- 32:31Why not us?
- 32:32I think that's what he's I think he's doing.
- 32:34Why not?
- 32:35He's doing the 2004 Red Sox.
- 32:36Why not us?
- 32:37He's also have you seen the the this is my new favorite fucking thing is the United States
- 32:42commercials where they show us like like the U.S. like potentially winning the World Cup
- 32:47and it says everything is possible.
- 32:49And I'm like, that's one way to put it.
- 32:52Not anything.
- 32:53Everything is possible, which is also true.
- 32:57Exactly.
- 32:58Cody, do you want to be mad at homophobes with me?
- 33:01Yes.
- 33:02Yeah.
- 33:03Follow me on Twitter, which, by the way, I don't really fuck around Twitter anymore because
- 33:06it's a fucking cesspool filled with the worst of mouth breathing humanity.
- 33:10That being said, every once in a while, I love getting on there to I don't know how
- 33:13to say this.
- 33:14Beat the shit out of Nazis.
- 33:16Take it away.
- 33:20The MLB is going to be investigated for religious discrimination over the Giants Pride Night
- 33:26camp.
- 33:27Uh huh.
- 33:28Uh huh.
- 33:29I'm just going to give the people a little bit of background on this just because before
- 33:32you you get into things.
- 33:34Harmeet K. Dillon, the I just got to the wrong page.
- 33:37Sorry, guys.
- 33:38I was reading the headline and it's fine.
- 33:40We can wait because this is quite a Harmeet K. Dillon, the United States Assistant Attorney
- 33:45General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice podcast.
- 33:49OK, let me get through this just just so if I have to clip it, please, because people
- 33:55get mad.
- 33:56They think you're like talking over me and I'm like, this is just what we do.
- 33:58But they always think they blame you.
- 34:00And we both do that.
- 34:01Just FYI.
- 34:02Dillon released a letter Thursday saying that she wrote to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred
- 34:06in the letter.
- 34:07Dillon addressed the controversy over the San Francisco Giants Pride Night ball caps
- 34:10and cited Title eight sorry, Title seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
- 34:16Dillon has referred this matter to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which
- 34:20she says will further investigate MLB for religious discrimination in response to Giants
- 34:24pitchers inscribing Bible verses on their rainbow themed caps for the team's pride night
- 34:29against the Chicago Cubs.
- 34:31MLB said doing so was a violation of the league's rules and issued a warning about
- 34:36future violations.
- 34:37And on Tuesday, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley issued a letter to Manfred scrutinizing the league's
- 34:42public warning.
- 34:43Real quick, we have a letter.
- 34:44Do you mind throwing the letter up real quick for the letter up for this fucking letter
- 34:48up?
- 34:49We're not mad at you.
- 34:50We're not mad at you, Mocha.
- 34:51No, no.
- 34:52I'm not in general.
- 34:53I apologize, Mocha.
- 34:54You're wonderful.
- 34:55Throw this fucking letter up.
- 34:56So go ahead and read that while I give you guys a little bit more information.
- 35:02Essentially what's going on here is there are strict rules from the MLB regarding their
- 35:07uniforms.
- 35:08No player whose uniform does not conform to that of his teammates shall be permitted to
- 35:12participate in a game.
- 35:13That is the rule.
- 35:15These players have cited religious freedom.
- 35:19A lot of them maintain, I don't hate the LGBTQ community.
- 35:22It's something I believed and talked about it with my teammates and families, and thank
- 35:25God.
- 35:26We live in a country where there's free speech.
- 35:28Cody sports are political.
- 35:30The government getting involved in this is just more Christo fascism right in front of
- 35:33our faces.
- 35:34And these billionaires keep letting it happen.
- 35:37And I want to know, not only like, you know, we have a discussion to have, okay, we have
- 35:41a discussion to have.
- 35:42First things first, Tony Vitale, your manager of the Giants, you should be fucking fired.
- 35:46Fucking embarrassing.
- 35:47You did not candle your clubhouse.
- 35:49Fucking embarrassing.
- 35:50Don't ever hire a college coach ever again.
- 35:53Fucking embarrassing.
- 35:54Buster Posey.
- 35:55Fucking embarrassing.
- 35:56Giants.
- 35:57Fucking embarrassing.
- 35:58Let's go through the actual basics of this.
- 35:59Major League Baseball has made it abundantly clear to a bunch of fucking racist homophobic
- 36:03shit hooks.
- 36:04If you can't wear a flag on your hat because you're just so religious that you need to
- 36:09throw a Bible verse over it, they allow you to wear the normal hat.
- 36:12You were not required to wear such hat.
- 36:14Instead, you took the opportunity to make a community which is extremely, extremely,
- 36:20extremely passionate and extremely connected to especially the city of San Francisco.
- 36:26I don't know.
- 36:27Watch the movie Milk.
- 36:29Look up Harvey Milk.
- 36:30Understand what the mayor of Castro Street actually went through.
- 36:33Look up the fucking Twiki defense today and understand what fucking nonsense we're dealing
- 36:38with here and understand why San Francisco is very much a hotbed of a very bunch, a lot
- 36:43of pride and a lot of homosexuals who are just trying to live their lives.
- 36:47I played Major League Baseball.
- 36:49I played in Minor League Baseball for 11 years.
- 36:52I dealt with the most incredulous, insane homophobic nonsense completely masked and
- 37:01just like cuddled around religious freedom of your Christianity.
- 37:08Now that being said, I want to make this abundantly clear.
- 37:10The majority of the Christians I played with in Major League Baseball were wonderful people.
- 37:14Wonderful accepting, understanding people.
- 37:16I played with one.
- 37:17I'll even cite him.
- 37:19Jake Gobert, a staunch, staunch, probably a staunch Republican that we, he and I probably
- 37:23disagree on almost everything in the world.
- 37:25But I remember one time talking about him with him on pride night and Jake Gobert said
- 37:29a beautiful thing that I actually said, you're just one of the great ones and I wish more
- 37:32people were like you.
- 37:33And he looked at me.
- 37:34He's like, no, no.
- 37:35Like we're all sinners.
- 37:37Like it doesn't matter what the sin is.
- 37:39Like that's not important.
- 37:40I'm going to wear a pride hat because it's important for me to wear a pride hat because
- 37:43we should all love each other.
- 37:45Like correct.
- 37:47Fucking correct.
- 37:48That's what it's all about.
- 37:49The people that are taking the opportunity and why this is so egregious to me is because
- 37:55if you are given the opportunity by Major League Baseball to not wear the pride hat,
- 37:58fine, you can wear your normal San Francisco Giants hat.
- 38:01We'll notice who you are.
- 38:03We'll, we'll mention it to each other about what a fucking homophobe piece of shit you
- 38:07are.
- 38:08Blank trying in of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but don't worry about it.
- 38:11Fine.
- 38:12But instead of wearing, not wearing your normal hat, you chose something different.
- 38:16You actually fucking chose violence.
- 38:19You did.
- 38:20None of us did.
- 38:21You're just dealing with the consequences of what you decided because you decided instead
- 38:25of wearing a Giants hat, you wore the pride hat and then wrote a Bible verse over it to
- 38:30antagonize the gay community of the city of San Francisco.
- 38:34And you somehow are the fucking victim.
- 38:36You were not fined.
- 38:38You were not punished.
- 38:39There was a stern letter wrote saying, don't do it again.
- 38:41That's literally it.
- 38:42That's all you got.
- 38:43You're experiencing consequences of people who were offended by your bullshit.
- 38:47When I was playing professional baseball as a Jew, I can't stress this enough how many
- 38:51times I had so many issues with people of the Christian right in major league baseball.
- 38:55I got chastised by multiple chaplains from multiple organizations going to the San Diego
- 38:59Padres and Kansas city Royals for being Jewish because I didn't show up chapel.
- 39:04I had another one where my manager had to step in.
- 39:06John Gibbons of the Los Angeles angels stepped in and actually scolded one particular chaplain
- 39:12for going too far saying, motherfucker, I'm a Christian, leave him alone because he's
- 39:16not going to your chapel because they were trying to fucking convert me.
- 39:19I can't stress this enough how embarrassing this is, how stupid this is.
- 39:24And the fact that Christians in baseball, which by the way, where's our Christian night?
- 39:29There has been more faith and family nights that I had to be a part of that were nauseating
- 39:34and I didn't say a word about it.
- 39:36I just supported my Christian teammates who wanted to go out and say Bible verses before
- 39:39every game.
- 39:40I dealt with like four Christian nights a year.
- 39:43I never had a Jewish night.
- 39:45By the way, I'm not asking for one because I'm not looking for that.
- 39:48But you know what?
- 39:49However, the community is one of the most honestly attacked, harmed, and under scrutiny
- 39:58communities in the world.
- 39:59And this is a community that truly wants nothing more than to just be recognized, understood,
- 40:06and allowed to exist.
- 40:08That's it.
- 40:09Literally nothing more.
- 40:11So why do we have to have a pride night?
- 40:13Your reaction, the reaction around this entire thing, the reaction from Josh fucking Hawley,
- 40:19so in the closet, Josh Hawley, the reaction from these politicians who are somehow thinking
- 40:26Christianity and major league fucking baseball of all of the organizations that exist on
- 40:32planet earth is under attack, is shameful, embarrassing, and insulting to mine.
- 40:39And even your intelligence, the fact that we're even talking about this is insane.
- 40:45The fact that the players think that they're somehow the victims, fuck you.
- 40:48I would release your ass.
- 40:50You're not good enough to actually sit there and play.
- 40:52If you're going to cite my stats, I don't give a shit.
- 40:55I'll Homer off you in fucking three days.
- 40:58Give me a bat.
- 40:59This is fucking embarrassing.
- 41:01I hate where we're at.
- 41:02I hate that this is a talking point because we should have been past this 25 fucking years
- 41:06ago.
- 41:07Yet somehow we're not.
- 41:08I, I, I statistically, I played with a hundred gay play baseball players just statistically.
- 41:15None of them came out.
- 41:17None of them because of this, because of exactly this, because of you, because you are an asshole.
- 41:23You're not just some Christian defending their faith.
- 41:26You're an asshole.
- 41:27I appreciate your Christianity and your faith.
- 41:30I really do.
- 41:31I wish I had the same faith.
- 41:32I just don't.
- 41:33I don't see the world that way, but you know what I do see the world as not fucking taking
- 41:37anything about me and then punching down to the community that just wants to be acknowledged.
- 41:42I just don't get this.
- 41:44I don't understand this.
- 41:45I don't know why you need to feel big to make somebody else feel fucking small.
- 41:49I fucking hate baseball for not having the balls to stand up to anybody about this.
- 41:54I'd hate the San Francisco giants, especially in that fucking city.
- 41:58Buster Posey, you should resign.
- 41:59Tony Vitale, you never should have been fucking hired.
- 42:02Embarrassing all around.
- 42:04Fucking embarrassing.
- 42:05Have a lovely day.
- 42:06Yeah.
- 42:07I, the fact of the matter is there is no expectation of these owners, teams, or leagues to push
- 42:15back on this.
- 42:16And so even the giants actually, uh, saying like, this is a uniform violation, something
- 42:22that they didn't, it's something that like for someone like these, uh, pitchers and these,
- 42:28these players, they, they, they, they see it as ironically, they see it as them being
- 42:34oppressed.
- 42:35I have a question.
- 42:37What other nights of the year have they written a Bible verse on their hat?
- 42:42Well, again, this is, you just made the point.
- 42:45We know it's homophobia.
- 42:46Like we understand that this is obviously like, we know that this is them being homophobic.
- 42:50And by the way, even in your acute story about your friend, Josh, I'd love to say, I am,
- 42:55I appreciate it, but I don't, because quite honestly, I do find the hate the center, not
- 43:00the sin to be wildly condescending, but he truly meant it in the nicest possible way.
- 43:06And I'm going to be honest.
- 43:07I don't care.
- 43:08Not that I think he's a bad person.
- 43:09I do think he's probably a really great person, but I do think they're referring to somebody
- 43:13like and their identity and who they love as a sin.
- 43:16Like, Oh, you went, you didn't, you didn't, you know, I would like to apologize.
- 43:19Can I, can I, can I do it?
- 43:20No, no, no, no.
- 43:21Can I apologize?
- 43:22I should say his point a little better because he actually went further details.
- 43:26He was explaining like, I'm a sinner.
- 43:27Everyone's a sinner.
- 43:28It doesn't matter.
- 43:29But it's not a sin.
- 43:30His point was none.
- 43:31He was, he was trying to make the point like none of this is a sin.
- 43:34It's just like, it's just saying like lit, like essentially all of us as we exist are
- 43:40the same.
- 43:41Yes.
- 43:42That's kind of what he was.
- 43:43That's exactly what he was saying.
- 43:44A lot of those people who say that actually are like, I don't agree with it, but you have
- 43:49to look, hate the, like hate the sin or love the sin.
- 43:51I understand.
- 43:52But that's not what he said.
- 43:53Cause that is a lot of, and that always bothers me to, to equate somebody, uh, do it like
- 43:59expressing love as a sin.
- 44:01He was trying to explain in his way that like, I am also a sinner.
- 44:04We are all, you're off the hook.
- 44:07I want to make it about unclear.
- 44:08He was like, I truly like, Oh, like, except heard that phrase before and I pushed back.
- 44:13No, I've pushed back on that phrase many times how he described it was like, no, no, no.
- 44:19It's more like, like, we're all, like literally me, you, anyone, we're all just sitting like,
- 44:27that's the point.
- 44:28Like we're all.
- 44:29Every one of us.
- 44:30And we should love each other.
- 44:31There's a, there's, there's a, a frustrating, you know, co-opting of these moments.
- 44:37Um, and every time it happens, it's like, we see exactly what you're doing.
- 44:41You are homophobic.
- 44:42And I wish that guys who say I'm not anti-LGBTQ, yeah, you are just say you are just say you
- 44:49are so that we don't have to play this game.
- 44:51It's insane.
- 44:52You know, you said everything from you, you played it, you saw it.
- 44:55There's absolutely nothing I can bring to the table.
- 44:57That's going to like express exactly what you've seen from the baseball community better
- 45:01than I can.
- 45:02But what I can say in addition, additionally, is that every single fucking time someone
- 45:07tells me sports, aren't politics, keep politics out of sports, keep politics out of sports.
- 45:10This was not political.
- 45:12It was gay pride night.
- 45:13That is, Hey, we're proud.
- 45:15This is San Francisco.
- 45:16We're proud of our, our history.
- 45:17We're proud of what we've done for this community.
- 45:19Just like if you were to honor Latinos in San Diego, or like if you were going to have
- 45:24Mexican pride night in Los Angeles, or if you were going to have, you know, Amish pride
- 45:28night in fucking Pennsylvania, this is a community that you're a part of that they're honoring.
- 45:32And you still made it political by not, not the government's involved.
- 45:39They did pride night, the MLB punished the players for not following their uniform protocol.
- 45:46They did not punish them.
- 45:48There was no punishment there.
- 45:49Well, they, they, they let them know they can't do it again or they'll be fine.
- 45:53There was no fucking punishment.
- 45:55So there's, there's a warning about uniform protocol and the government gets involved.
- 46:00I need you people to understand what I just said.
- 46:03The MLB issued a warning to their players about uniform protocol and the government
- 46:09got involved.
- 46:10Again, so no one suspended, no one fined, no one punished.
- 46:14Even if there were, why the fuck would the government be involved?
- 46:17I completely agree.
- 46:18But I also want to make a point out that no one was punished, fined, or even fucking scolded.
- 46:25But I don't want to make, I don't want you to make that point because what happens is
- 46:28when you say that it makes it sound like if they did do that, it would, we'd understand
- 46:31why the government got involved.
- 46:33No, no government should not be involved in what the leagues are doing regarding uniform
- 46:39policy.
- 46:40So that's, we're going to leave it there.
- 46:42And then we're going to talk about the fact that the government being involved is purely
- 46:45a, a political propaganda move for Christo nationalism, for Christo fascism.
- 46:52And that is why every time you people tell me that I am making something political, that's
- 46:59not, I will point to these moments where this administration is insinuating itself into
- 47:05non-political situations, purely like we know homophobes exist in sports.
- 47:10It happens in the NHL.
- 47:11It happens in the NFL.
- 47:12It happens.
- 47:13And the homophobia itself is a problem, but to make it political by insinuating the government
- 47:18into it is a problem.
- 47:19And the, and quite honestly, Cody, this is another point, the billionaires think they're
- 47:23safe from this, right?
- 47:24Like they're just going to let it happen.
- 47:25They're going to just keep getting on their knees and bootlicking this administration.
- 47:30But the fact of the matter is they should be incredibly nervous.
- 47:32And I have noticed that some of these billionaires are getting a little nervous about how far
- 47:36this administration is willing to reach into their business, reach into their pockets reads
- 47:43into their, uh, you know, rules and regulations, the NFL is getting uncomfortable.
- 47:48The MLB is getting uncomfortable.
- 47:50It's starting to get a little hairy for these leagues that have sucked the dicks of these
- 47:53billionaires and Trump and everybody else this entire time, because this, this is an
- 47:56attack on the MLB and they're going to try to, they're going to try to toe the line.
- 48:00But the reality is if they're going to do this, what else are they going to get in on?
- 48:03What other shit are they going to try to pull with these leagues?
- 48:06And every single one, you know, as, as we've talked about, once these teams start being
- 48:11owned by more groups, more hedge funds, where there's not individual billionaires owning
- 48:15the team that can have our individual relationship to Donald Trump, like the Waltons or like
- 48:20the, you know, Adelson's right now, you've got people who Trump and his cronies don't
- 48:26have allegiance to.
- 48:28But what they do have allegiance to is using the massive platform that American sports
- 48:33occupies.
- 48:34It is the most watched live television that we have.
- 48:40Nobody watches anything live at the, at the level of millions, except for sports.
- 48:46There's nothing you can do to reach the American masses faster than with sports.
- 48:51So when, when politicians, especially politicians on the left, ignore just what platform this,
- 48:59these sports have.
- 49:00When people tell me, tell me that my industry isn't political.
- 49:03Guess what?
- 49:04You can get on, you can get on MSNBC and talk about the next fucking little bit, like whatever
- 49:09the fucking Supreme court did that day and no one's going to see it.
- 49:13But guess who's got what?
- 49:14Guess what?
- 49:15People fucking watch sports.
- 49:16And these, this administration knows exactly what it's doing by coming for professional
- 49:22sports leagues.
- 49:23Sure.
- 49:24Every time.
- 49:25I can't stress this enough.
- 49:26Okay.
- 49:27Just so we're all clear.
- 49:28I just looked this up just to make sure.
- 49:29Um, anyone under 30 years, 30 years old, uh, 23% of America, uh, identifies as LGBTQ.
- 49:35Um, that is just who identifies, um, that does not include athletes.
- 49:39We're gay.
- 49:40We're a gay ass society.
- 49:41I want to make this abundantly clear.
- 49:42So just say based off those numbers alone, uh, there are four players on the giants who
- 49:48are actively gay.
- 49:49Um, those players aren't aware of this.
- 49:51I can't stress this enough.
- 49:52Hey, some of those players might be the Bible verse people.
- 49:55I want to know.
- 49:56I can't stress this enough.
- 49:57I probably, some of them might be, they might be, or they might not.
- 50:00I'm not saying they all, I'm just saying, I'm just saying like, motherfucker, I was
- 50:05an ally my entire career ever since I was a little kid.
- 50:11And like, I went to gay pride parades.
- 50:12I was around gay people.
- 50:13I've gave family members that are, I'm a, I shit you not my favorite family members.
- 50:17I can't stress this enough.
- 50:18There's nothing more pathetic.
- 50:19He hates his straight family members.
- 50:20I do.
- 50:21I actually dislike most of my straight family members, but I can't stress this enough.
- 50:25Punching down at the most vulnerable communities in our society is, is an ERC for me that I
- 50:30just cannot stress enough.
- 50:32Well, I'd also like to remind people that a lot of, a lot of gay people and trans people
- 50:36can kick the, kick your fucking asses up.
- 50:41I'd really love to see it.
- 50:42I really, I don't want to put them in danger.
- 50:45I want to point this out.
- 50:46When I was at series six, I remember I got called in the office cause I told this one
- 50:49person that they were a little bitch and I told him they were a little bitch because
- 50:52they were really anti-trans.
- 50:54And I made it abundantly clear, listen, every trans person is stronger than you will ever
- 50:58dream that you ever could be because you are not strong enough to actually go out in public
- 51:01and be who you actually are.
- 51:03This part, these people are doing it and they're doing it.
- 51:04The ostracization of society, I can't stress this enough what it takes for them to actually
- 51:10go out and be themselves.
- 51:12I also firmly believe that they would beat you in an arm wrestling match cause you're
- 51:15a little bitch.
- 51:16They sent that to my boss, Steve Torrey and Steve Torrey called me in the office and can't
- 51:20do this again.
- 51:21And I'm going to fucking do it again.
- 51:22I'm going to do it again.
- 51:24I'm going to do it again and again and again and again.
- 51:25Because if you're going to take their side, I don't want to work here.
- 51:28Luckily, I was, I was publicly fired like a couple of months later.
- 51:31So it doesn't really matter, but I can't stress this enough.
- 51:33I'm going to do it again.
- 51:34I'm going to do it again and again.
- 51:36And I want those people who are little bitches who want to punch down on the community that
- 51:42can very much defend themselves and don't need me to white knight for them.
- 51:45But I'm going to do it fucking anyways.
- 51:46I can't stress.
- 51:47That's how I feel all the time.
- 51:48People are always like, oh, you black people don't need you to stand up for them.
- 51:51Or like, you know, trans people don't need you to stand up for them.
- 51:54I don't care.
- 51:55I don't think you understand.
- 51:57I hate you.
- 51:58You hating these people makes me hate you.
- 51:59I don't need a gold star.
- 52:00I don't need a gold star.
- 52:01Do you think I'm afraid to get fired?
- 52:02Bitch, I've been fired so many fucking times.
- 52:03I'm going to get fired again and I'll get hired again because I'm fucking good.
- 52:11Like we're not, we're not doing this for gold stars.
- 52:14We just genuinely hate you for being a hater for, for being a bigot.
- 52:20We hate you.
- 52:21No gold star necessary.
- 52:22Just for the record, those four giants players, maybe there's a chance cause I've been with
- 52:26a lot of baseball players and the majority of them are fucking idiots.
- 52:29I can't stress this enough.
- 52:30It's a very uneducated talent pool of human beings.
- 52:33They just are.
- 52:35Maybe there's a chance.
- 52:36There's a lot of ignorance involved, just unawareness involved.
- 52:40I'm going to give them like a 1% benefit of the doubt today in this wonderful magical
- 52:47story I'm giving them.
- 52:49You have gay teammates right now.
- 52:51You shower with them, they've seen you naked, they've seen your penis and you don't even
- 52:55know cause it's not that big of a deal and you don't know because they're not interested
- 53:00in you.
- 53:01You're a bunch of ugly bearded fucking neck beard fucks.
- 53:04Your wives don't even want to fuck.
- 53:06No one wants to fuck you.
- 53:07Your teammates don't want to fuck you.
- 53:09The gay community doesn't want to fuck you.
- 53:11How about this?
- 53:12Go out and pitch baseballs.
- 53:13If you have something important to say, we might listen.
- 53:16This wasn't important to say.
- 53:18In fact, this was antagonistic, rude, and quite frankly, childish and stupid and anyone
- 53:24that defends it, fuck you.
- 53:27You're an asshole.
- 53:28Honestly.
- 53:29Well said.
- 53:30I think we're, I think we covered that topic.
- 53:36We're probably not going to let up very much for the rest of this show because there's,
- 53:41it's all, it's all like a lot of bullshit.
- 53:44We're going into media corner because this Alexi Lawless versus Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it's
- 53:54not dying.
- 53:55It's living.
- 53:56It is living, breathing.
- 53:58It is a living, breathing organism of a story.
- 54:00And there was a new development today that a lot of folks were talking about.
- 54:05It's amazing.
- 54:06I, I love when my former employee, I'm sorry, our former employer Fox fucking runs and hides.
- 54:15It's fucking so comically embarrassing.
- 54:18I love it.
- 54:19I almost want to call like fucking all the exec.
- 54:21I want to call Jacob Oldman like Jacob fucking, what are you doing?
- 54:25I want to call a fucking, what are you doing?
- 54:30I don't care.
- 54:31This is fucking hilarious.
- 54:32I'm like, guys, this is the best thing ever.
- 54:36Like watching them on stage together was amazing.
- 54:40Watching them just talk down to Lawless.
- 54:44Can I tell the, can I tell the people what happened today at the update, please?
- 54:47It's amazing.
- 54:48Okay.
- 54:49Here's the update.
- 54:50I'm going to say Jacob Oldman again.
- 54:51Okay.
- 54:52Here's the update.
- 54:53So, um, the, uh, the, there was a notable absence on the desk that all, all world cup.
- 55:00It's been Rebecca Lowe, Tyrion Reeves, lots on Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lawless.
- 55:04Now Tyrion Reeves, lots on Ibrahimovic, two of the greatest players of an era of a generation.
- 55:10Alexi Lawless is there and Alexi Lawless is there was a good player in 1994.
- 55:15Yes, he was.
- 55:16He actually was.
- 55:17Yes, he was.
- 55:18And that's really, that's his claim to fame.
- 55:19Uh, he'll let you know every time he talks, I would like to show everybody a clip of what
- 55:25went down to open up the USA broadcast today.
- 55:29So, uh, go ahead and play that for us.
- 55:37Chaps, Alexi left us.
- 55:39Who?
- 55:40Oh, Alexi will be back.
- 55:44Alexi will be back with us very soon.
- 55:46Your plan worked, Rebecca.
- 55:47Don't you bring me into this.
- 55:49No chance.
- 55:50America, you're welcome.
- 55:51We are going to talk about USA's game, of course.
- 55:54It's lovely.
- 55:55Rebecca Lowe.
- 55:56Chaps, Alexi.
- 55:57So yeah, uh, Zlatan is not letting it go.
- 56:02Like they have begged Zlatan to lay off.
- 56:05He's not letting off.
- 56:07Rebecca's like trying so hard to keep it chill, but even she's not trying that hard to keep
- 56:11it chill.
- 56:12Um, these people don't like Alexi Lawless just like the rest of us don't.
- 56:15But here's the thing, Cody.
- 56:16Um, and I have been in this industry for, since the day, since six months before I graduated
- 56:22college, it's all I've ever known.
- 56:24It's all I've ever done.
- 56:25And it's, I, when you are professionally, when you were professionally playing sports,
- 56:29I was professionally watching soccer and making sports television and watching sports, all
- 56:34the sports and making sports television.
- 56:36I have never in my life ever seen a situation like this where a, an already highly controversial
- 56:45analyst.
- 56:46Yes.
- 56:47Because Alexi Lawless has always been controversial.
- 56:48He is.
- 56:49Why?
- 56:50Because he used to be a hippie and then he turned into a right wing grifter?
- 56:52Not before the right wing grifter.
- 56:55That's, that's what I'm trying to tell you is that this is not a, like, this is prior
- 56:59to the right wing mega stuff.
- 57:01This is before we even knew his politics.
- 57:03He was already a very unliked analyst.
- 57:06He is a contrarian.
- 57:08He's a bit of a rage baiter.
- 57:10He's cocky.
- 57:11And, and just has always had an air of like, like something off about him.
- 57:16And so this has been going on for a long time with Alexi Lawless, very long time.
- 57:21I can't remember a time where people were like enjoying his, his analysis really, uh,
- 57:26en masse, right?
- 57:27Along come two of the greatest players of a generation, Thierry Henry, who has been
- 57:31an incredible analyst.
- 57:32Zlatan is new to this, but Thierry Henry is an incredible analyst and has been for a while.
- 57:36Also one of the greats.
- 57:37Turns out Zlatan is also the second greats.
- 57:40So immediately as we start, like, as soon as this coverage started, we all were like,
- 57:45oh, come on, you're putting Zlatan and Thierry Henry next to Alexi Lawless.
- 57:49This is embarrassing.
- 57:50This is whatever.
- 57:51We all had that conversation.
- 57:52We didn't know that they were going to agree.
- 57:54We didn't know that they were going to agree out loud and repeatedly fucking roast him
- 57:58and dog him and not let up.
- 58:00They have dogs him daily.
- 58:02He's not even there and he's still wearing it.
- 58:04And to the point where I, I think we might've even said it in our show last where I was
- 58:08like, I, I think Fox might have to fucking do something like this might actually be the
- 58:12first time that they're like, we actually can't keep getting away with this because
- 58:16of course Fox always was getting away with it.
- 58:18They were like, who else are we going to put on here?
- 58:19It's Alexi blah, blah, blah.
- 58:20But like for them to move there, they're going to sell this as like, oh, we were always
- 58:24sending Alexi Lawless to Seattle.
- 58:26Okay.
- 58:27Okay.
- 58:28And then, and like, it's really, really wild.
- 58:33Um, and did you see the Zlatan, um, lie detector test?
- 58:38Yes.
- 58:39Every, so Zlatan's telling the truth, telling the truth, telling the truth.
- 58:44He's getting yes, yes.
- 58:45And he's answering crazy questions.
- 58:46They were like, if you could put four Zlatans on the desk instead of like you and everybody
- 58:51else, would you do it?
- 58:52And he was like, yes.
- 58:53Right.
- 58:54And then they said, do you respect the opinions of everybody on the desk?
- 58:58And he said, yes.
- 58:59And it came, it was the only one that came back as a lie.
- 59:03And he just sort of sheepishly looked at the camera and was like, I don't know who it is,
- 59:10which leads us, which led us into this.
- 59:12And so, you know, kind of the point that I really want to make is like part of the reason
- 59:17that this has become such a big deal is because these games are being incredibly highly viewed
- 59:21there.
- 59:22They are, they are matching, um, MLB and NBA playoff games.
- 59:26Uh, the ratings have been incredible.
- 59:28The ratings are always really good for World Cup.
- 59:31Fox is doing a really good, like there are problems.
- 59:33I make, I don't like the hydration breaks Fox.
- 59:36It's Fox's fault about the hydration.
- 59:38I know.
- 59:39And I know that they're making a killing on the commercial.
- 59:42So there's a part of me.
- 59:43A lot of people are watching Telemundo there, you know, it's like, it's really funny because
- 59:47like the Telemundo numbers are crazy, but even still the Fox numbers are crazy because
- 59:50there's so many people.
- 59:51And by the way, like, listen, I know a lot of people are giving that shit.
- 59:54Like I'm not troting a company line here.
- 59:57I mean, you, you kind of have to get it.
- 1:00:00They're making so much money on those breaks.
- 1:00:02I don't get it.
- 1:00:03I really don't know because they're just a corporation, man.
- 1:00:06They're going to stop.
- 1:00:07What I'm saying is I don't, I don't personally get it because I genuinely think that like
- 1:00:11it's not even like, it's not even a long enough ad break where you're getting like Super Bowl
- 1:00:15number.
- 1:00:16Like I, I read that they're getting a fucking yeah.
- 1:00:19A million dollar ads, whatever.
- 1:00:20But like, they don't, when you're talking about a company that's worth a million dollars
- 1:00:25is like me being like, Cody, I just gave you a dollar.
- 1:00:27Or isn't it like, you're not wrong, but I don't think we're in a capitalistic fucking
- 1:00:32country.
- 1:00:33I don't think I.
- 1:00:34Yeah, because we've been, I mean, we've been capitalist the whole time.
- 1:00:36We've been like airing soccer games.
- 1:00:38It's just not, it's so unnecessary.
- 1:00:39It's Fox.
- 1:00:40To me, it feels, to me, it feels like, um, like a Trump, Infantino, uh, Fox relationship
- 1:00:47where there is a, where there's a very distinct, important, uh, placement of America as a,
- 1:00:54as a trendsetter, as a, as a game changer.
- 1:00:58That's what I don't like.
- 1:01:00Yeah.
- 1:01:01That's the part I don't like where they're like, we're going to turn soccer into quarters.
- 1:01:03No, no.
- 1:01:04I can't stress this enough.
- 1:01:05I understand.
- 1:01:06There's an American.
- 1:01:07When I say this, I mean, I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
- 1:01:09I understand.
- 1:01:10Yeah.
- 1:01:11Every diehard soccer fan.
- 1:01:12I get it.
- 1:01:13By the way, this is not me defending Fox and then what they're doing.
- 1:01:16I just also understand what Fox is doing.
- 1:01:19What you're saying.
- 1:01:20You keep saying understand, but I feel like I know what you're saying, which is that you,
- 1:01:22you don't expect anything.
- 1:01:24I don't expect better from them.
- 1:01:25I expected them to do this.
- 1:01:27I'm shocked.
- 1:01:28It's this little.
- 1:01:29Yeah.
- 1:01:30It's not like, Oh, I totally feel like I get it.
- 1:01:33Every corporation was always, it's more just like, Oh, of course a corporation is fucking
- 1:01:37up the tenor.
- 1:01:38How about this?
- 1:01:39I worked at Fox.
- 1:01:40I'm shocked.
- 1:01:41It's this subtle.
- 1:01:42Listen, I worked at Fox a lot longer than you did.
- 1:01:44And I'm still like, that's why I'm like, I know they don't need the fucking money.
- 1:01:48I know they don't need the money, but I know what we had to put on TV every day and what
- 1:01:52was directed to put on TV every day.
- 1:01:54I'm shocked.
- 1:01:55It's this little, I'll say I was trying to make it better for you.
- 1:01:58They were listening to me.
- 1:01:59You were in LA.
- 1:02:00I was stuck in New York.
- 1:02:01I was doing a great job.
- 1:02:02I was fixing coward.
- 1:02:03By the way.
- 1:02:04Coward show.
- 1:02:05Coward show has gone downhill.
- 1:02:08Oh, you mean why?
- 1:02:09Because he today talked about retiring and nobody watches his show and he is fucking
- 1:02:12making mistakes left and right.
- 1:02:14He did say he wasn't retiring until he was 70 and he's not even 60.
- 1:02:17So he's like fifties.
- 1:02:18Yeah.
- 1:02:19Yeah.
- 1:02:20Colin's great.
- 1:02:21Colin looks really great.
- 1:02:22Well, Colin has aged beautifully.
- 1:02:23Really well.
- 1:02:24Like Colin's aging.
- 1:02:25Colin's like, I wish I was aging.
- 1:02:27How Colin's aging?
- 1:02:28I'm aging like milk.
- 1:02:29He's aging like Steve Carell.
- 1:02:31He looks fucking like, yeah, truly.
- 1:02:32Colin, you look fucking great.
- 1:02:33Yeah.
- 1:02:34Colin looks great.
- 1:02:35And I don't think he needs to retire anytime soon.
- 1:02:37No, he doesn't.
- 1:02:38But he does clearly need a news editor because like his shit has been like, I'm like, I just
- 1:02:41know he's so much better than the content he's been putting out.
- 1:02:43And they've gotten really lazy.
- 1:02:44I haven't seen it.
- 1:02:45I haven't either.
- 1:02:46I've only been seeing the clips.
- 1:02:47I write like, so I'm not putting the fucking show on, but like the clips have just been
- 1:02:50like, oh, Colin, dude, where we got a rainy back.
- 1:02:52I've just kind of been out on the volume is great.
- 1:02:55So here's the thing.
- 1:02:56I just haven't watched it.
- 1:02:57Like I'm very out on FS one.
- 1:02:59There's no reason for me to watch it.
- 1:03:00There's literally nothing.
- 1:03:01The only thing I see.
- 1:03:02Oh, well, that's a lie.
- 1:03:03I sometimes see clips as well.
- 1:03:05I love Danny Parkins.
- 1:03:06Like Danny's a friend of mine.
- 1:03:07I don't like Danny Park.
- 1:03:08I like, no, wait, I love him.
- 1:03:10Wait, wait, wait.
- 1:03:11Let me rephrase this.
- 1:03:12I think he's literally one of the nicest people.
- 1:03:13Oh, sweetest guy.
- 1:03:14When I say I, I genuinely think he's one of the nicest human beings.
- 1:03:19No, no, no.
- 1:03:20He is so sweet and so kind, but I love Danny more on the radio than television.
- 1:03:24I do like him more on the radio and television, but that's not for me to say.
- 1:03:27It always feels.
- 1:03:28It's just what I like.
- 1:03:29He's not as comfortable on television.
- 1:03:31Yeah.
- 1:03:32He's a little awkward on TV, but like he's such a sweet guy and he makes good point.
- 1:03:36He's actually good.
- 1:03:37No, he is very good.
- 1:03:38I completely agree.
- 1:03:40Yeah.
- 1:03:41Like he is like, I will say, I will say, I do think that like I not everybody needs to
- 1:03:47be on television and that's not an aesthetics thing.
- 1:03:49I genuinely mean things change when a camera is on you a little bit.
- 1:03:53But, but I do, I want to make, I do think he's good and I think Nick Wright is good.
- 1:03:57Nick Wright is fucking amazing.
- 1:03:59Yeah.
- 1:04:00I wouldn't go that far.
- 1:04:01I think he's good.
- 1:04:02He is.
- 1:04:03Boy, we're just, we have different tastes, I guess.
- 1:04:05That's see what you need to understand is like Nick does exactly what you're supposed
- 1:04:10to do.
- 1:04:11I, sometimes I hate what Nick's doing.
- 1:04:13Sometimes I love what Nick's doing, but he's always charismatic and he's always like, like
- 1:04:18there's something to listen to and he does, he never does the Stephen A.
- 1:04:21Smith thing.
- 1:04:22You're right about that.
- 1:04:23He's like suddenly doesn't know what's going on.
- 1:04:25No, no.
- 1:04:26Very smart.
- 1:04:27Very, very intelligent.
- 1:04:28There's no real critiques.
- 1:04:29He's on a debate show.
- 1:04:30Would I put him on, on around the horn?
- 1:04:33No, I don't think he's that kind of guy.
- 1:04:35I don't think he is an intellectual debater in that way.
- 1:04:38I think he, his entertainment value as a debater is like, it matches just about anybody like
- 1:04:45outside of like peak Stephen A. Smith.
- 1:04:47You're right about that.
- 1:04:48I know.
- 1:04:49For what he does.
- 1:04:50I apologize.
- 1:04:51I just want to praise that because I, this is not an anti Nick Wright thing.
- 1:04:54I actually like Nick.
- 1:04:55Right.
- 1:04:56I think Nick writes great.
- 1:04:57I really do.
- 1:04:58He's just not my, he's just not my cup of tea.
- 1:05:01That's all.
- 1:05:02Were you a Quornheiser Wilbon guy?
- 1:05:03No.
- 1:05:04Oh, I like Wilbon, but like, I appreciate also that Wilbon is a diehard Chicago guy.
- 1:05:07But you weren't a PTI guy growing up?
- 1:05:09No.
- 1:05:10Really?
- 1:05:11I was not.
- 1:05:12So I think that's part of it is like, I'm a PT.
- 1:05:13I was a PTI guy.
- 1:05:14I was not.
- 1:05:15I watched it occasionally.
- 1:05:16I have always been like, I've liked the like banter of two people who might disagree, but
- 1:05:21are friends.
- 1:05:22Oh no, no.
- 1:05:23I appreciate the show, but I wasn't like, I never watched it.
- 1:05:26I'm like, this is my jam.
- 1:05:27What was your thing growing up?
- 1:05:28Uh, for sports media?
- 1:05:29None of it.
- 1:05:30I think sports media is terrible.
- 1:05:31I'm sorry.
- 1:05:32As a kid?
- 1:05:33None of it.
- 1:05:34I think sports media is terrible.
- 1:05:35It wasn't though.
- 1:05:36Like, that's the thing is like when we were kids, it was, there was like, see, this is
- 1:05:40where I liked the big show of sports center.
- 1:05:43I liked, I liked when Olbermann and fucking.
- 1:05:46That's what I was just asking you, Cody.
- 1:05:47But that was sports center.
- 1:05:48It wasn't exactly a breakdown.
- 1:05:49I'm not talking about the big show.
- 1:05:50What did you like as a kid?
- 1:05:51I loved sports center.
- 1:05:52I loved the big show, specifically the big show, but that's not what sports center and
- 1:05:53what sports media is anymore.
- 1:05:54It's different.
- 1:05:55I said, as a child, what did you like?
- 1:05:56You're like nothing.
- 1:05:57No, I'm sorry.
- 1:05:58What these shows are now.
- 1:05:59I didn't, I don't like this, but dude, I liked sports center as a kid.
- 1:06:00What did you like?
- 1:06:01You're like nothing.
- 1:06:02No, I'm sorry.
- 1:06:03What these shows are now.
- 1:06:04I didn't, I don't like this, but dude, I liked sports center as a kid.
- 1:06:05Yes.
- 1:06:06Oh my God.
- 1:06:07Why is it so frustrating for you?
- 1:06:08Because I literally was like, Hey, what did you like as a kid?
- 1:06:09And you were like, nothing.
- 1:06:10I'm sorry.
- 1:06:11I apologize.
- 1:06:12I guess I didn't understand the question because we didn't have these.
- 1:06:13So it was a completely confusing question.
- 1:06:14What do you like as a child?
- 1:06:15I apologize.
- 1:06:16You have to understand based on the sports landscape of what we watched today.
- 1:06:17No, I know what's happening.
- 1:06:18This is Jack Daniels Falls.
- 1:06:19No.
- 1:06:20No.
- 1:06:21No.
- 1:06:22No.
- 1:06:23No.
- 1:06:24No.
- 1:06:25No.
- 1:06:26No.
- 1:06:27No.
- 1:06:28No.
- 1:06:29No.
- 1:06:30No.
- 1:06:31No.
- 1:06:32No.
- 1:06:33No.
- 1:06:34I apologize.
- 1:06:35This was Jack Daniels Falls.
- 1:06:36No, it's not.
- 1:06:37It is.
- 1:06:38It's not because I thought your question was more along the lines of what is sports like
- 1:06:40sports we need now is talk shows.
- 1:06:42No, I didn't think you, I didn't want you to time travel.
- 1:06:44I was asking what you liked as a kid in the nineties.
- 1:06:47I liked sports centers.
- 1:06:48Sports centers where I got my sports information.
- 1:06:49There's a, um, Rich Eyes is doing a thing on ESPN where he's like interviewing people
- 1:06:54about this is, it's called this as sports center.
- 1:06:56And they're talking about.
- 1:06:57I did hear about that.
- 1:06:59His first guest was Dan Patrick.
- 1:07:00First of all, Dan Patrick is fucking insane.
- 1:07:02He does not like mint words.
- 1:07:04He talks mad shit.
- 1:07:05He's like so straightforward.
- 1:07:07You would love it.
- 1:07:08Like, I mean, all of us kids that were, uh, like for the, for the real prime of sports
- 1:07:14center.
- 1:07:15Cause we really got prime sports center.
- 1:07:16I want to take the back.
- 1:07:17I also loved real sports when I was younger.
- 1:07:18I thought that was great stuff.
- 1:07:20But that was also because I was interested in the actual sports stories and that's kind
- 1:07:24of the thing pieces that ESPN used to do.
- 1:07:27We're not in that world anymore.
- 1:07:28So I apologize.
- 1:07:29What I thought you were kind of saying, like, what did I like?
- 1:07:31Cause you were citing PTI specifically.
- 1:07:32What?
- 1:07:33Oh, like something that still exists.
- 1:07:34Yes.
- 1:07:35I, I thought this was more like on ESPN that still exists that did you like when you were
- 1:07:39little?
- 1:07:40Uh, so what I liked when I was little was sports center and sports information.
- 1:07:43Um, literally everything they put together, everything you want to know what's really
- 1:07:47fascinating.
- 1:07:48We're going to just keep getting off track.
- 1:07:49This is going to be a long show.
- 1:07:52Um, the, I, I was recently watching a sports center.
- 1:07:56Um, my friend Madeline Burke is, she just became a sports center anchor a couple of
- 1:08:00months ago and she's great.
- 1:08:03She came out of New York.
- 1:08:04Do you know Madeline Burke?
- 1:08:05I'm not personally, but I know where she is.
- 1:08:06Yeah.
- 1:08:07So Chris went to college with her.
- 1:08:08We were friends out in LA, so she moved out to New York a long time ago and then she's
- 1:08:11been out there since crushing it.
- 1:08:13Whatever.
- 1:08:14By the way, they've hired a couple of really good people recently.
- 1:08:15Yes.
- 1:08:16And she was great.
- 1:08:17And I was watching her sports center and it was great.
- 1:08:20She did an amazing job.
- 1:08:21Like I loved it.
- 1:08:22I got to see some tennis highlights I got to see and I, and it was making me nostalgic
- 1:08:25for like just getting to sit and watch like a bunch of different highlights from a bunch
- 1:08:29of different sports with a charismatic, cool, hot person.
- 1:08:33Right.
- 1:08:34And then I watched baseball highlights on Netflix because they do this.
- 1:08:40You know that how Netflix, do you know this?
- 1:08:42They do like baseball highlights now.
- 1:08:44Yes.
- 1:08:45Yes.
- 1:08:46Have you watched them?
- 1:08:49No, I haven't.
- 1:08:52So I watched for the first time I watched one the other day and it was a bad and I was like,
- 1:08:58it's not that the, I loved seeing the game.
- 1:08:59It was like a, it was like a long recap.
- 1:09:01They were doing in and by ending and it was really long, but I was like, there is an art
- 1:09:06to the highlight.
- 1:09:07There's an art to the recap.
- 1:09:08There's an art to the sports center approach that like these streaming services are just
- 1:09:14not getting.
- 1:09:16And it was just a fascinating, it was a fascinating juxtaposition.
- 1:09:19If I, after I just watched Madeline do her highlights where I was like, I, I, it's such
- 1:09:25a sad commentary that we've lost it because I think now more than ever, we need sports
- 1:09:30center.
- 1:09:31Like, I think now more than ever, we just need a place to be like, Hey, what happened
- 1:09:34today?
- 1:09:35Cause it's too much.
- 1:09:36Like everybody says, Oh, well we can just get everything on, on the internet now.
- 1:09:39But it's like, I I'm tired, like I'm so fucking tired that I would love for sports center
- 1:09:46to make a comeback.
- 1:09:47It just, they just, ESPN does not do the right marketing.
- 1:09:51They don't put it the right way.
- 1:09:52By the way, I, there is a funny, you say, are we chatting with somebody?
- 1:09:56Oh yeah.
- 1:09:57I was just talking down a Nazi.
- 1:09:58That's okay.
- 1:09:59I didn't know if it was the live chat or not.
- 1:10:00No, no, it wasn't live.
- 1:10:01Live chats.
- 1:10:02Actually been great.
- 1:10:03This entire show.
- 1:10:04They are putting on like full paragraphs.
- 1:10:06They, they love what we're talking about.
- 1:10:07They love how passionate we are about this chance specifically has been retweeting a
- 1:10:10lot.
- 1:10:11Um, but no, the, um, how do I put it?
- 1:10:15I actually, I, there's one thing I feel like is a little misleading cause they still have
- 1:10:20sports center and the morning AM sports center, the, the two guys, and there is a route to
- 1:10:25rotating there.
- 1:10:26Then fill in any other guys.
- 1:10:27Uh, they're a little corny, but like Randy, I don't know their names.
- 1:10:31They're young.
- 1:10:32They're young.
- 1:10:33Oh.
- 1:10:34Um, I gotta say the sports are AM is actually quite good.
- 1:10:37They're kind of bubbly.
- 1:10:38They kind of have a little bit of a rapport with each other.
- 1:10:41It's very morning.
- 1:10:42There's another one with morning rain, more like morning talk show and Gary, I like Randy
- 1:10:46and Gary.
- 1:10:47I don't know.
- 1:10:48The chat might know.
- 1:10:50Yeah.
- 1:10:51I really think sports are still really good.
- 1:10:53Like they have really young, vibrant and, and kind of funny.
- 1:10:57People are throwing a lot of fun references in there with the sports highlights.
- 1:11:00And it's, I got to say, I still think the thing that ESPN does the very best is still
- 1:11:04sports.
- 1:11:05Um, Instagram said I'm with you on sports center.
- 1:11:08So yeah, people like relate.
- 1:11:09They relate.
- 1:11:10Yeah.
- 1:11:11I feel like, I mean, I don't know if, if our commenter is millennial or not, but probably,
- 1:11:15but I'm telling you like sports center AM I do want, well, obviously I'm driving the
- 1:11:19studio at 4am.
- 1:11:20So obviously I'm watching sports center a little bit, catching up on any matches or
- 1:11:23games.
- 1:11:24I might have missed.
- 1:11:25It is genuinely so helpful.
- 1:11:26It is extremely helpful.
- 1:11:27And also I mean this, the guys that are on and I want, I really apologize because I don't
- 1:11:31know their names, but like the guys that are on at 4am, they're kind of this crew that
- 1:11:35these two guys, they have a very good rapport with each other.
- 1:11:38And then one of them is gone.
- 1:11:39They have a rotating crew of different people.
- 1:11:42They put in, I have to say, I, it's honestly the best thing ESPN does.
- 1:11:47And I don't think there's a close second.
- 1:11:49I agree.
- 1:11:50And you know what?
- 1:11:51I think Chris would agree too.
- 1:11:52Like it's really good work.
- 1:11:54Yeah.
- 1:11:55Yeah.
- 1:11:56It's edited.
- 1:11:57Well, it's presented.
- 1:11:58Well, it's honestly, it feels in a great studio, a beautiful studio.
- 1:12:02Like truly I I'm legitimately frustrated when I watch it going like, I just want to watch
- 1:12:08this for like the next four hours.
- 1:12:11I don't need the rest of the shit.
- 1:12:14I agree.
- 1:12:15I'm with you.
- 1:12:16I don't know how we got there, but I love that for us.
- 1:12:18Uh, I guess SportsCenter channel, Max Kellerman, I think might've take, I think he might've
- 1:12:22watched our segment.
- 1:12:23I'm not kidding in media corner.
- 1:12:26Number two.
- 1:12:27I honestly think Max Kellerman might've seen our segment because after we were the first
- 1:12:31ones and I'm going to say this, we were the first ones to call out the media for being
- 1:12:35weird about Wembley after the loss.
- 1:12:38And I'm going to say we're the first ones cause quite literally it's my whole job to
- 1:12:40pay attention to what people are fucking saying and we were the only ones saying it.
- 1:12:43And then Max Kellerman, the sneeze came out of nowhere.
- 1:12:49Was that a sneeze?
- 1:12:50It was.
- 1:12:51Jesus Christ.
- 1:12:52But I laughed in the middle of it cause I was like, so Max Kellerman in a conversation
- 1:12:56with Rich Paul blamed or accused the NBA media.
- 1:13:00It's still funny hearing that out loud.
- 1:13:02Really?
- 1:13:03I just, I know, but Max, I've been having a conversation with rich, rich Paul and we
- 1:13:07fucking report.
- 1:13:08I can't, I hate to break it to you, but rich Paul has been like in the media.
- 1:13:11I know.
- 1:13:12No, I know.
- 1:13:14The fact that this is a legitimate media source, it's just fucking source.
- 1:13:17They were on a podcast.
- 1:13:18No, I know.
- 1:13:19They have a podcast together.
- 1:13:20It's fucking wild to me.
- 1:13:21He's a goddamn agent.
- 1:13:22Well, he's rich.
- 1:13:23Paul is a, he's a different kind of agent, but man, wild, uh, Max Kellerman accused the
- 1:13:29NBA media of building Victor women Yama up just to tear him down as Victor women Yama
- 1:13:34damaged his hat, a reputation during the NBA finals, Max Kellerman and Rich Paul are blaming
- 1:13:39the media.
- 1:13:41Now, I don't think he damaged his reputation, but you and I already had this conversation.
- 1:13:44Here's what, uh, here's what Max Kellerman said.
- 1:13:47I don't think people are doing it for clickbait with Wendy Kellerman said of the NBAs, uh,
- 1:13:53flip on women Yama.
- 1:13:54We like to build people up as these perfect heroes.
- 1:13:57And then once they are built up as high as they can go, we like to find their flaws to
- 1:14:01tear them down and we enjoy both those things.
- 1:14:04But ultimately what people really want to see is once they're torn down, can they rise
- 1:14:07from the ashes?
- 1:14:09That's really what people want to see right now.
- 1:14:11People want to tear when be down to see if he can get back up off the deck so they can
- 1:14:15really love the guy.
- 1:14:17Paul claimed Alan Iverson warned LeBron James that the media was going to eventually try
- 1:14:21to their best to tear him down.
- 1:14:22And according to Paul, those efforts began in 2010 when James left, left Cleveland for
- 1:14:26Miami.
- 1:14:27In this case with one B, I guess it's losing in the NBA finals.
- 1:14:30Now Rich Paul is always going to make it about LeBron.
- 1:14:33That's fine.
- 1:14:34I want to leave the LeBron out of that.
- 1:14:35The LeBron is something that'll get us on a tangent.
- 1:14:38What I do want to address is what Kellerman said, because I actually think he is, I think
- 1:14:44first of all, I really respect how Max Kellerman looks at these stories.
- 1:14:48For the most part, I think he does a pretty good job.
- 1:14:51I believe he is correct in the sense that the media absolutely loves to tear down a
- 1:14:57former star, absolutely loves to tear down a former sweetheart.
- 1:15:01They set the expectation so high that you could barely meet it.
- 1:15:04And then when you don't meet it, they criticize you for it.
- 1:15:08That is a fucking moneymaker, right?
- 1:15:10Like it is a moneymaker to say, Oh my God, Wemby is the greatest.
- 1:15:15He is going to be the greatest talent we've ever seen.
- 1:15:17But then he runs up on Jalen Brunson and acts like a little, you know, a little over the
- 1:15:20top and then whatever.
- 1:15:22And now he's the villain.
- 1:15:24I was, I was scrolling, I'm scrolling threads and I come across a thread from my ex boyfriend,
- 1:15:31right?
- 1:15:33And his, his whole video is talking about how Wemby is dirty and like calmly talking
- 1:15:37about like the whole idea, right?
- 1:15:39This whole, and I'm like, this is a very knowledgeable sports fan, a normal level-headed sports fan
- 1:15:45talking about how Wemby, he is fully, he is fully media-pilled by this entire conversation,
- 1:15:51a smart person.
- 1:15:53And I was like, Oh no, they got, they got to the good ones.
- 1:15:56Like they got even to like the smarter folks watching sports.
- 1:16:00And so that's what I think Max Kellerman got right, is that I think the media does
- 1:16:05identify this desire in people to feel that, to feel the rise and fall and the rise and
- 1:16:12fall repeatedly.
- 1:16:13We, you know, what do you, do you see that?
- 1:16:16Yes.
- 1:16:17But I see it differently.
- 1:16:18Okay.
- 1:16:19Well, I want your opinion on this because this is actually my theory wholeheartedly.
- 1:16:25So media, which media, let's start there.
- 1:16:28Which media are you citing specifically?
- 1:16:30Because for me, I'm going to go ahead and cite the entire entity of ESPN.
- 1:16:35Well, me, yeah.
- 1:16:37But I want to specifically cite the entity of ESPN.
- 1:16:40And here's why I want to cite them.
- 1:16:42Specifically.
- 1:16:43I feel like this was a company that really drove this narrative so hard and they were
- 1:16:48the loudest about it.
- 1:16:49Every single show specifically, Get Up, First Tag.
- 1:16:52I don't think they were the loudest about it.
- 1:16:53I just think they happen to be the loudest.
- 1:16:55Okay.
- 1:16:56That's fair.
- 1:16:58This was an opportunity to recreate a different story.
- 1:17:03Wemby was the story.
- 1:17:04In fact, Wemby was so much the story because who was the villain before Wemby was?
- 1:17:08It was SGA.
- 1:17:10All of a sudden, two-time MVP is now the most villainized motherfucker in the world.
- 1:17:14And Wemby is a superhero who's taking down this floppy-
- 1:17:17And by the way, before SGA was the villain, he was the hero.
- 1:17:21You're proving Kellerman's point, by the way.
- 1:17:22Hold on.
- 1:17:23I agree.
- 1:17:24I'm pointing at a different villain for a different reason on why they chose-
- 1:17:28You don't think it's the media?
- 1:17:29Oh, no.
- 1:17:30The media is the fucking villain here.
- 1:17:31That's who Kellerman says is the villain.
- 1:17:32I'm agreeing with Kellerman.
- 1:17:34I'm seeing a different reason.
- 1:17:35I'm not seeing this Rise from the Ashes fucking Phoenix story.
- 1:17:39That's bullshit.
- 1:17:40So that's what I need you to-
- 1:17:41Are you fucking kidding me?
- 1:17:42That's what I need you to get to.
- 1:17:43They could give a fuck if it's a Rise from the Ashes story.
- 1:17:46I think I agree with you on this.
- 1:17:47This is about four fucking dipshits who are fake New York Knicks fucking fans so they
- 1:17:54can celebrate like they're the fucking hero of the story.
- 1:18:00That's what this is actually about.
- 1:18:02Has nothing to do with Wemby.
- 1:18:05This has all to do with the New York Knicks' decree to create a new narrative and a new
- 1:18:09story of this underdog team.
- 1:18:11And guess who believed in them all along?
- 1:18:14These four fucking specific, very specific ESPN personalities.
- 1:18:21One of which, I'm not going to say fucking who, said, I'm not going to take a ring even
- 1:18:25if they offer it to me.
- 1:18:26You're not on the fucking team, you fucking twat.
- 1:18:30Anyways, continue.
- 1:18:32No, I think that I'm in between you and Max because I do think-
- 1:18:37Because Max is right.
- 1:18:38I do think that there's not a huge desire for it.
- 1:18:41I saw ESPN make the story about themselves.
- 1:18:44I do think that there's not a huge desire for Rise From The Ashes.
- 1:18:48I have not seen a lot of Rise From The Ashes desire in my very long sports media career.
- 1:18:55Never seen it.
- 1:18:56I've never seen people be like, I really hope we get to do this.
- 1:18:58They love-
- 1:18:59They rooted against LeBron forever.
- 1:19:00There's always, in every single medium, the desire to be negative, hateful is always going
- 1:19:07to override positive and beautiful.
- 1:19:10There will be a backlash to Jalen Brunson.
- 1:19:13There will be a backlash to this Knicks title, this beautiful story we've all loved.
- 1:19:17We will see it.
- 1:19:18There's no two ways around it that is going to happen.
- 1:19:20There is no two ways around it.
- 1:19:22I disagree with Max on that front, but I do think that there is a very concentrated effort
- 1:19:30to build someone up to the point where expectations they basically cannot meet.
- 1:19:37LeBron is the perfect example, not necessarily in the way that Rich Paul said, but in the
- 1:19:42way that he was on the Sports Illustrated cover when he was 16 years old.
- 1:19:46He was drafted when he was 18 years old.
- 1:19:48He was in an NBA Finals by the fourth year of his career.
- 1:19:52In all of those ways, by the time he had made his first NBA Finals, he had met expectations
- 1:20:00and it then exceeded them.
- 1:20:02And then some.
- 1:20:03Completely.
- 1:20:04And instead of us being able to put that into context, what we did is we always cater in
- 1:20:08the media to the lowest common denominator.
- 1:20:11We always say, what is the stupidest, most base level fan going to say about this scenario?
- 1:20:18Because those are the people who are going to validate us the most.
- 1:20:22Those are the people we want to cater to because not only will they then pay attention because
- 1:20:26they're stupid and they want to be validated, but the people who know better will be triggered
- 1:20:30and talk about it.
- 1:20:31Like you and I.
- 1:20:32It is a fucking masterful calculation on behalf of these people.
- 1:20:38And that's what they do.
- 1:20:39I agree.
- 1:20:40The wheel turns.
- 1:20:41Nothing changes.
- 1:20:42I just, by the way, I agree.
- 1:20:44I want to make this one clear.
- 1:20:45I agree with Max Hillman.
- 1:20:47Max Hillman's right.
- 1:20:48I just think the reason we're masculine guys, oh, I'm a Max Hillman fan.
- 1:20:51I love Max's work, but I want to make this abundantly clear.
- 1:20:53My theory is that Max is right, but for the wrong reason, I don't think it's for that
- 1:20:59narrative that he's talking about, to tear someone down, to peel them back up.
- 1:21:03No, I don't think that at all.
- 1:21:04I see it as an opportunity for certain people to make themselves the story, and that's what
- 1:21:11we're actually dealing with.
- 1:21:13And now those same people, as you just mentioned, are now going to make themselves a story in
- 1:21:18a different way because now the Knicks get ready for it.
- 1:21:21Just fucking get ready for it in the next three months.
- 1:21:24I'm going to say it's even sooner than that, but I'm going to give them three months.
- 1:21:27The Knicks will be the most hated team in the NBA somehow.
- 1:21:31I haven't just figured out how it's going to be, whether it's going to be Jimmy Dolan
- 1:21:34doing it himself, whether it's going to be those same pundits after players are traded
- 1:21:38away or whatever happens, because they already announced Jimmy Dolan right away on the most
- 1:21:43feel good day ever, that they're not going to the second tier.
- 1:21:46So they're not going to be able to retain this exact fucking team, fucking way to shit
- 1:21:49on your fucking fans on a really great day.
- 1:21:53I can't stress this enough.
- 1:21:55The Knicks will become the biggest villains in sports, according to certain pundits in
- 1:22:01the next three months.
- 1:22:03Fucking wait for it.
- 1:22:05And then you can come to me and say you were right again.
- 1:22:08And I'm not falling for it.
- 1:22:10I am going.
- 1:22:11I am now locked in on defending Josh Hart and Jalen runs till the day I die, apparently
- 1:22:15just wait for it.
- 1:22:16I'm just I'm only saying this is going to happen because it's it's the most lazy fucking
- 1:22:21playbook ever.
- 1:22:23And I hope people can just fucking read the playbook beforehand.
- 1:22:27Like watch Stephen A won't get a ring and he'll fucking make a fucking hour segment
- 1:22:31out of it.
- 1:22:33This is like we're in the craziest, stupidest times I've ever dealt with.
- 1:22:37This industry is fucking embarrassing.
- 1:22:40We know before we go, we're going to we're going to go to a hill we're dying on.
- 1:22:45I think we're dying on the same hill, Cody.
- 1:22:47You and I are dying on the same hill because we had a segment in our last show where we
- 1:22:52talked about how much we loved how the English chant and like do their songs and how they
- 1:23:00they always seem to pull together a beautiful chant, something relevant to the game, sometimes
- 1:23:06deeply inappropriate.
- 1:23:07There were some things in our comment section that I was very uncomfortable with.
- 1:23:09But overall, we were talking about how much we loved the fact that they could do that.
- 1:23:14It was just like blowing our minds.
- 1:23:15We were being American sarcastic, like, can you believe these people can come up with
- 1:23:18this?
- 1:23:19Now, I have discussed a lot of soccer slash association football slash football all over
- 1:23:25the Internet because I have played and talked about the sport since I was 10 years old.
- 1:23:32And there is one sector of humorless, psychotic losers that will not leave me alone or it
- 1:23:41turns out us and that is English football fans.
- 1:23:45They are fucking horrible.
- 1:23:47So on this video that we put online, which, by the way, thank you guys for the engagement.
- 1:23:51We are absolutely blowing up.
- 1:23:52We love you for being such fucking pretentious douchebags because the views have been insane
- 1:23:57on every platform.
- 1:23:59Thank you.
- 1:24:00They rather than come in and say, oh, my God, we love these people.
- 1:24:04They're totally engaging with us in good faith.
- 1:24:06They saw bad faith because that's all they do is engage in bad faith.
- 1:24:09And they came in to scold us on how we say Premier League to tell us that it's football,
- 1:24:15not soccer.
- 1:24:16Hey, Cody, do you know why we call it soccer?
- 1:24:18Any fucking idea why we call the sport of association football soccer?
- 1:24:22Because the English started calling it soccer.
- 1:24:25Their douchey little rugby bro fucking high society motherfuckers started calling it soccer
- 1:24:32and they called it soccer for a very long time.
- 1:24:35For the record, I did know that we did not know that.
- 1:24:37And do you want to know why they stopped doing it?
- 1:24:39Because they didn't like that we adopted it and they felt like it was classist.
- 1:24:43So, oh, not our fucking problem.
- 1:24:45You gave us the phrase.
- 1:24:47Also, have you ever heard them say the last name Martinez, Rodriguez or Jimenez?
- 1:24:53Not once.
- 1:24:54No, you haven't.
- 1:24:55Because you know what they say?
- 1:24:56Martinez, Rodriguez, Jimenez.
- 1:25:00These motherfuckers can't they cannot pronounce a Latin American last name to save their lives.
- 1:25:05If you fucking paid them, they couldn't.
- 1:25:07You want to know how I know?
- 1:25:08Because one of them came in and said, you guys don't even know how to pronounce the
- 1:25:11name Carlos.
- 1:25:13It's Carlos.
- 1:25:15It's not fucking Carlos.
- 1:25:16I live in a city named after the fucking Spanish language.
- 1:25:22It is Carlos.
- 1:25:23Carlos, you fucking losers.
- 1:25:24Shut the fuck up.
- 1:25:25Oh my God.
- 1:25:26I've never experienced.
- 1:25:27The Scottish don't do this.
- 1:25:28The Irish don't do this.
- 1:25:29The South Africans, the Australians don't do this.
- 1:25:30Nobody in the world does this.
- 1:25:31They might be mad that we call it soccer.
- 1:25:32They might hate that we're Americans, but at the end of the day, they shut their fucking
- 1:25:43mouths and enjoy the goddamn game.
- 1:25:45You absolute fucking colonizer pricks.
- 1:25:48You took over the whole world, murdered everybody, everybody who got out from under your thumb.
- 1:25:53You kept some shit from them in a goddamn museum that you won't give back.
- 1:25:58You racist motherfuckers won't take care of your Indian English people, your black English
- 1:26:04people.
- 1:26:05You are fucking just as racist as any white MAGA person in this country and you are in
- 1:26:10our comment section thinking we don't know that.
- 1:26:12You fucking started this shit.
- 1:26:15Every single piece of shit white MAGA person has come from your bloodline.
- 1:26:19Get the fuck out of my comment section.
- 1:26:22Hey Mocha, remember earlier when she all got like worried about the shit I was saying?
- 1:26:30Ditto.
- 1:26:31We're even.
- 1:26:32I agree with her, but I'm not going to say it.
- 1:26:39Oh, this was fun.
- 1:26:44I felt like this was a very dramatic.
- 1:26:48This was a very needed Friday.
- 1:26:49Yeah, we were not.
- 1:26:51We were not well coming in.
- 1:26:52We're not well coming out.
- 1:26:53But at the end, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 1:26:54I'm pissed about where everything is, you know, except for the World Cup.
- 1:26:58Don't lie.
- 1:26:59And this is where we're at, bro.
- 1:27:01We got to deal with absurd, stupid homophobia.
- 1:27:05We get to deal with gatekeeping, racist British people.
- 1:27:09We've gotten to deal with just about everything that is really great about our sports world
- 1:27:14and our media system, which, by the way, I didn't say this earlier that I wanted to,
- 1:27:18but it actually kind of got brought up later with the Max Kellerman thing.
- 1:27:21We were talking about Alexi Wallace, right?
- 1:27:23Yeah.
- 1:27:24So the whole thing about Alexi Wallace, about how negative it is, how miserable he is.
- 1:27:27Like he is like if there's one thing that Alexi Wallace has kind of shown, and I mean
- 1:27:32this in a good way, not that Lexi meant to do this.
- 1:27:35I mean this in a good way.
- 1:27:36Alexi Wallace, in my opinion, has really shown what American sports journalism is compared
- 1:27:42to what other people do.
- 1:27:43Because him at a stage with two other truly spectacular athletes who see things with a
- 1:27:49perspective of reality on the field and the pitch and the course and the court, whatever
- 1:27:56it is that you play on, and you have one guy trying to sensationalize and say bullshit
- 1:28:01and the other two going like, that's fucking nonsense, here's the truth, is really eye-opening
- 1:28:08to me in a different way, eye-opening to me that we really are bad at this and we are
- 1:28:15so in the headlines, nonsensical bullshit in sports that I feel like this is exposing
- 1:28:23us and I'm hoping more Americans are seeing it.
- 1:28:26Why do I'm liking Zlatan and Henry on that stage with him?
- 1:28:31Because it's exposing basically American sports journalism in fucking real time.
- 1:28:38It's exposing American sports analyst culture, but more than even journalism.
- 1:28:43And analyst culture is broken, and you're right, it absolutely is.
- 1:28:49There are beautiful, wonderful analysts in this country that are doing incredible work
- 1:28:53and they are being overlooked or they're being put on the B desk or the C desk in
- 1:28:58favor of these types of people.
- 1:29:00And the reality is they brought in Thierry Henry for a very specific reason.
- 1:29:03They brought in Thierry Henry because they needed an expert, a level of player that could
- 1:29:11believably critique a player like Ronaldo or Messi.
- 1:29:14You can't just put Alexi Lalas on a desk and let him critique Cristiano Ronaldo.
- 1:29:18It's not going to fucking work, right?
- 1:29:20But if Cristiano Ronaldo were a great actual analyst, he would be a beautiful sort of side
- 1:29:29piece and an addition to what somebody like Thierry Henry brings.
- 1:29:34Thierry Henry is able to say, hey, this is where I saw the flaws in Cristiano Ronaldo's
- 1:29:39game.
- 1:29:40He can introduce the topic credibly and then somebody like Alexi Lalas is supposed to be
- 1:29:44able to pull that.
- 1:29:46But he can't do it, cannot do it on his own because he does not have the cred.
- 1:29:49That's how it's supposed to work.
- 1:29:50Instead, Alexi Lalas believes that he should be able to play the Thierry Henry role.
- 1:29:56And that's where he makes his biggest mistake.
- 1:29:57I'm trying to give the example and I'll use myself.
- 1:30:00Like I was played in Major League Baseball, right?
- 1:30:02You put me on a panel.
- 1:30:03You could put me on a panel with Jeter and A-Rod and Big Papi, but you know what I'm
- 1:30:08going to do because of who I am and who they are.
- 1:30:11I'm going to defer to them and I'm going to let them say their piece.
- 1:30:15And then I'm going to bolster probably their piece or disagree with them and turn into
- 1:30:18a conversation rather than go sensationalize while these guys are staring at me.
- 1:30:23That's exactly right.
- 1:30:24So you wouldn't even necessarily have to agree with them, but you could never like if you're
- 1:30:28let's say you're on a panel with A-Rod and Papi, just leave Jeter out of it because I
- 1:30:32hope that you're there instead of Jeter in this, in my beautiful scenario, you know,
- 1:30:35I hate Derek Jeter.
- 1:30:36So in my mind, you're there bald for bald, right?
- 1:30:42We're going bald for bald.
- 1:30:43That's fair.
- 1:30:44Jeter got sick.
- 1:30:45They fit me in because they needed somebody.
- 1:30:47In my fever dream scenario, you're there instead of Jeter.
- 1:30:50And the reason that A-Rod and Papi exist is so that they can come in and critique what
- 1:30:57Scooble or Shohei just did, because you fucking can't, right?
- 1:31:02I know you can't, but what you can do, because like you're going to get the people who were
- 1:31:06like, what do you know, Cody?
- 1:31:07You were never that good.
- 1:31:09That's just what's going to happen.
- 1:31:10But you're the perfect person to be there to say, you know, whatever it is.
- 1:31:17You can say whatever you want, as long as you're not the person who introduced the critique.
- 1:31:21Agreed.
- 1:31:22That's just reality.
- 1:31:23Right.
- 1:31:24Right.
- 1:31:25Like the show Shorzy does a great job of that, actually, in the fourth season.
- 1:31:28He's in there.
- 1:31:29Shorzy's doing a talk show, and he's with Dougie Gilmore.
- 1:31:32And there's like, Shorzy, what do you think?
- 1:31:34You should go to Dougie Gilmore.
- 1:31:35It's like, well, we're asking you.
- 1:31:39Pocky fans would like to hear from Dougie Gilmore.
- 1:31:42Like that's just a fact.
- 1:31:44Like I know.
- 1:31:45The baseball fans want to hear from A-Rod and Poppy.
- 1:31:47They want to hear from A-Rod and Poppy, and then you can get me afterwards, and I will
- 1:31:51try to add either context, or I will try to improve upon their points, or disagree and
- 1:31:56start a conversation.
- 1:31:57Plus, by the way, being a less talented, less successful player can also provide genuinely
- 1:32:03good insight, because you know what it's like to go up against someone whose talent is extraordinary
- 1:32:08beyond your-
- 1:32:09Agreed.
- 1:32:10David Ortiz doesn't know that as much.
- 1:32:11A-Rod doesn't know that as much.
- 1:32:12It actually, and I'm not saying that condescendingly, I genuinely mean there is a reason that all
- 1:32:17levels of professional player are valuable in a sports analyst's world.
- 1:32:21And honestly, Alexi Lawless could be way more valuable if he would just understand who he
- 1:32:26is.
- 1:32:27And if he would just stop doing whatever it is to make his skin that color.
- 1:32:30By the way, if you were wondering if you think he's just bad at analyzing soccer and life
- 1:32:33in general, he's also a terrible singer.
- 1:32:36I've heard.
- 1:32:37You did.
- 1:32:38Was it you that brought that up to me?
- 1:32:39Uh, no, but I'm going to play your song.
- 1:32:40Wait, someone, oh no, my other friend, my other friend was like, oh, and his music sucks.
- 1:32:44And I was, he's a musician.
- 1:32:45My other friend is like a professional musician.
- 1:32:48And he was like, and his music.
- 1:32:49Do not play it.
- 1:32:50Why are you going to put me through that right now?
- 1:32:52Absolutely not.
- 1:32:53Because everyone should listen to-
- 1:32:54No.
- 1:32:55No.
- 1:32:56No.
- 1:32:57He released a song in 1993 called Kicking Balls.
- 1:32:58I'm not listening to that right now.
- 1:32:59Cody.
- 1:33:00Can I please play it?
- 1:33:01Cody, please.
- 1:33:02Mocha, can I play it?
- 1:33:03Oh my God.
- 1:33:04Mocha!
- 1:33:05Go ahead.
- 1:33:06I can't believe this is happening.
- 1:33:08We don't have time to get to the fucking Red Sox.
- 1:33:09We don't have time to get to the Red Sox.
- 1:33:11We don't even get, by the way, people we hate, people with horrible, uh, coloring, Curt Schilling.
- 1:33:16How do you feel about Curt Schilling, Cody?
- 1:33:19Fuck Curt Schilling.
- 1:33:21Fuck Curt Schilling.
- 1:33:22Fuck Curt Schilling.
- 1:33:23Oh my God.
- 1:33:24See you next time.
- 1:33:25Like, subscribe.
- 1:33:26Thanks for showing up.
- 1:33:27We're the regulars.
- 1:33:28Bye.
- 1:33:29Bye.
