- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. Probably I'm back. It's been
- 0:05Speaker 1: two weeks maybe unless I got up to, you know,
- 0:07Speaker 1: making that little quick show about try gun stargaze and stuff.
- 0:12Speaker 1: But I kind of don't think I'm going to, so
- 0:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm recording this early if you can't tell.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So I don't know what the future holds for me.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But you should be hearing this two weeks from when,
- 0:23Speaker 1: you know, we finished up whatever the hell we just did.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Given that's what we did, and we're gonna start talking
- 0:29Speaker 1: about serial experiments Lane Yay. This should be really interesting
- 0:34Speaker 1: because I don't know how it's gonna go, just like
- 0:36Speaker 1: everything else. Side note, it is very warm outside, not
- 0:40Speaker 1: as warm as it's going to be tomorrow, but warm
- 0:43Speaker 1: enough that I have to open my windows, and my
- 0:45Speaker 1: neighbors have decided, Hey, we're going to just totally destroy
- 0:50Speaker 1: and then renovate the inside of the house. So it's loud,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and I'm sorry if you're hearing like banging and stuff
- 0:56Speaker 1: or any other sounds that you would hear outside, because
- 0:59Speaker 1: my windows open and I could close them, but then
- 1:03Speaker 1: i'd be hot and uncomfortable, so I'm not gonna. Yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 1: So sorry about that. Also, I think I have a
- 1:10Speaker 1: cold or something, so I'm sorry if my voice sounds weird,
- 1:14Speaker 1: but uh yeah, let's do the thing serial experiments Lane. Yeah. Also,
- 1:20Speaker 1: I hope you're doing good and you're still alive and
- 1:23Speaker 1: you still want to hang out with me after two
- 1:24Speaker 1: weeks of realizing how much better your life could be
- 1:27Speaker 1: if I wasn't in it, So thanks for coming back,
- 1:30Speaker 1: even though I'm ruining everything. Anyway, Let's talk about cerial
- 1:34Speaker 1: experiments Lane. Yay. So this is actually, as far as
- 1:38Speaker 1: I can recall, the first time we've watched a show,
- 1:42Speaker 1: done a show, or whatever we're doing that wasn't based
- 1:45Speaker 1: on another media form. Like we've done manga adaptations before
- 1:49Speaker 1: and late novel adaptations at least two of them, but
- 1:53Speaker 1: I don't think we've ever done just an original like
- 1:56Speaker 1: TV anime but doesn't have a source material. So that's
- 2:00Speaker 1: kind of cool and kind of weird. It's cool because
- 2:02Speaker 1: I don't have to look into anything. This is what
- 2:05Speaker 1: it is, this is what it was supposed to be. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 1: so that's kind of nice. Yeah, and also it is
- 2:12Speaker 1: the oldest anime that we've done. This came out in
- 2:17Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight. It was during the summer season, and
- 2:20Speaker 1: it was broadcast on TV Tokyo on Tuesdays at one
- 2:24Speaker 1: fifteen am. So wow, I think like a lot of
- 2:29Speaker 1: the anime that we've covered is on very late at night,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so late that I would be sad because I would
- 2:34Speaker 1: not still be awake, and then I'd have to watch
- 2:36Speaker 1: it the next day, and you know, everyone would be
- 2:39Speaker 1: talking about it without me, which is exactly what happens
- 2:41Speaker 1: now because they come out like early in the day
- 2:44Speaker 1: and I'm like, I can't watch it until kind of
- 2:46Speaker 1: the evening. So it's the same, I guess, I don't know.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But anyway, like I said, nineteen ninety eight, so a
- 2:54Speaker 1: couple of things, we have a different aspect ratio because
- 2:58Speaker 1: TVs used to be almost square instead of all long.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I think they were like four to three or whatever
- 3:02Speaker 1: the hell. So that's interesting because we haven't had that before.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But it is only the second oldest story we've done.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We did have an anime based on a manga that
- 3:12Speaker 1: ran from nineteen eighty five to nineteen ninety four, So yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: but still pretty cool anyway, some just things about it.
- 3:22Speaker 1: This was done by Studio Triangle staff. They ceased operation
- 3:26Speaker 1: in December two thousand, so that's why I don't know
- 3:29Speaker 1: who they are, but they did do Macross Plus, which
- 3:33Speaker 1: I have not watched. The director was Nakamura Ryutado, who
- 3:38Speaker 1: also directed Kino's Journey the two thousand and three version
- 3:41Speaker 1: of it, which I liked kind of a lot. I
- 3:44Speaker 1: don't think everyone else did, but I did, so that's nice.
- 3:47Speaker 1: For character designer, this is an important one. Character designer
- 3:51Speaker 1: was Yoshi Tooshi Abe, which he was kind of a
- 3:54Speaker 1: pretty prominent character designer in this timeframe. He also did
- 3:58Speaker 1: character design for Welcome to the NHK, which I love.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Why aren't we doing that techno lies? I don't know
- 4:05Speaker 1: if you've pronounced it like that, but I am, which
- 4:09Speaker 1: I watched about a third of it and got really confused.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And then more recently he did character design for the
- 4:16Speaker 1: movie All You Need Is Kill, which came out this
- 4:19Speaker 1: year and it sounds like it didn't do too well,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but whatever. He was just a character designer, but he's
- 4:25Speaker 1: got like a really particular style. Looks a little bit
- 4:28Speaker 1: more realistic, not really realistic, because it still looks like
- 4:32Speaker 1: a cartoon, but people don't have like huge eyes and
- 4:35Speaker 1: stuff like that. They look more like people so yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yoshi joshiab for a script and serious composition that was
- 4:44Speaker 1: Chiaki Konaka. And they also did serious composition for technoal
- 4:49Speaker 1: Lies and Helsing, So they've been doing stuff too, yay.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So it seems like a pretty okay ish team. But
- 4:57Speaker 1: what I really wanted to tell you about is the
- 4:59Speaker 1: original creator and producer of Lane, yes Yuki Ueita, who
- 5:04Speaker 1: this was like a big deal for him. He apparently
- 5:08Speaker 1: in interviews said that it was an enormous risk for
- 5:11Speaker 1: some reason just making this show, and in interviews he
- 5:15Speaker 1: claimed that it was and I quote a sort of
- 5:19Speaker 1: cultural war against American culture and the American sense of
- 5:23Speaker 1: values we adopted after World War two end quote. So
- 5:27Speaker 1: what Anyway, he hoped that Americans would see this and
- 5:32Speaker 1: totally not understand it because it's so distinctly Japanese, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: that was going to like lead to a war of ideas,
- 5:40Speaker 1: like over the meaning of Lane and like culminating with
- 5:44Speaker 1: this new communication between the two cultures. Wow, that is
- 5:49Speaker 1: really he really thought a lot of this, you know,
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't know, it comes off as like a little
- 5:56Speaker 1: bit pompous, like this was gonna be the thing that
- 5:59Speaker 1: changed everything. We're gonna open up new lines of communication.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Americans would never get this. I don't know. I was
- 6:06Speaker 1: reading this and I was like, what the fuck is
- 6:07Speaker 1: he talking about? Because when Americans saw it, we had
- 6:13Speaker 1: similar views of it to the Japanese audience, and he
- 6:17Speaker 1: was real disappointed. Sorry, dude, it didn't change the world
- 6:23Speaker 1: like you wanted it to. And I feel kind of
- 6:25Speaker 1: bad about that because Lane is really fucking good. But
- 6:29Speaker 1: did it shift the culture? Sorry? Not really, So now
- 6:33Speaker 1: that you know that he thought that, and that there
- 6:35Speaker 1: were probably all these grandiose concepts and details that he
- 6:39Speaker 1: wanted to emulate in the show and really give it
- 6:42Speaker 1: to the Americans because we don't get things. I don't know.
- 6:45Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see if you think it is
- 6:47Speaker 1: that important as well. I think it's probably not, but
- 6:51Speaker 1: I only watched this one and a half times, so
- 6:54Speaker 1: I might be wrong. Actually, the first time I saw Lane,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I didn't see the whole thing. I watched it with
- 7:01Speaker 1: my mom and brother and sister when I was growing
- 7:04Speaker 1: up on like a videotape, and we just didn't see
- 7:08Speaker 1: the whole thing because we didn't have all of the
- 7:10Speaker 1: tapes or something. We just never got them. But uh, yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 1: we liked it a lot, except my brother has claimed
- 7:18Speaker 1: that he didn't see it, and we don't know how
- 7:20Speaker 1: he would have been excluded. So maybe it was just
- 7:23Speaker 1: me and my sister and my mom. I don't know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: because we all watched anime together, but anyway, never saw
- 7:29Speaker 1: the end, and then I don't know, maybe seven eight
- 7:32Speaker 1: years ago I rewatched it and I watched all the
- 7:35Speaker 1: way through. So this will be only my second full
- 7:39Speaker 1: viewing of Lane, so that's gonna be cool. Maybe I'll
- 7:43Speaker 1: learn something. Maybe I'll learn that I don't like it,
- 7:45Speaker 1: like all the other fucking shows that I learned that
- 7:47Speaker 1: I don't like them, which makes me very sad. Or
- 7:49Speaker 1: maybe this will become one of my favorite anime of
- 7:53Speaker 1: all time, like up in the top ten instead of
- 7:55Speaker 1: somewhere in the twenty through fifty. Who knows, I don't know.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You definitely don't know because you're not me. So let's
- 8:02Speaker 1: just do it because I feel like I'm not really
- 8:05Speaker 1: saying anything and uh yeah, so I guess one more
- 8:09Speaker 1: thing before we start. Lane is really really atmospheric, So
- 8:17Speaker 1: a lot of the things that are happening on screen
- 8:19Speaker 1: are just like this looks really scary, or like things
- 8:24Speaker 1: are really overexposed. So I'm going to try to communicate
- 8:27Speaker 1: them the best that I can, but visual would probably help.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So if you're not watching this, maybe you should watch it.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I don't know, or not. Maybe I'll do a good
- 8:36Speaker 1: enough job. I won't, So let's get started. So we
- 8:40Speaker 1: start off with like kind of bluish static, like snow
- 8:43Speaker 1: on a TV. Remember this was nineteen ninety eight, so
- 8:46Speaker 1: TV's were smaller and they had static on them sometimes.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And then we cut to a completely white screen and
- 8:55Speaker 1: there are red Japanese characters being typed out, and as
- 9:00Speaker 1: they are, a voice in English narrates present day, present time,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and then he like laughs a bunch. Yeah. We go
- 9:09Speaker 1: to a blue static screen again and this image of
- 9:14Speaker 1: a young girl starts to fade into it, and then
- 9:17Speaker 1: it blips out and the screen goes black, and then
- 9:20Speaker 1: we go to the opening theme. Yay, So the song
- 9:23Speaker 1: is Duvet by Boa. I should have looked into this
- 9:26Speaker 1: before I started, but most anime opening and closing themes
- 9:29Speaker 1: are written specifically for the anime by the band or whatever.
- 9:34Speaker 1: This song already existed, and either the director or the
- 9:39Speaker 1: serious composition person I'm not really sure who. I just
- 9:43Speaker 1: looked into it really briefly, and I'm even more confused,
- 9:46Speaker 1: but they heard it and they were like, oh shit,
- 9:49Speaker 1: this is perfect. So they use this already finished song
- 9:52Speaker 1: as the opening, and I love it a lot. This
- 9:54Speaker 1: is probably one of my favorite opening themes that exists.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And also I think the opening animation is really really
- 10:00Speaker 1: nice too, very kind of atmospheric. As I said, we
- 10:04Speaker 1: see a girl like standing on a street with like
- 10:06Speaker 1: lots of crows around and like power lines and like
- 10:11Speaker 1: lane being repeated over and over on the screen, and
- 10:14Speaker 1: then like random words behind this girl, including breakthrough folks
- 10:20Speaker 1: watching this girl through like TVs where her face is
- 10:24Speaker 1: kind of distorted on it, like there's a kid playing
- 10:26Speaker 1: video games and her face is there, and people kissing
- 10:29Speaker 1: and her faces in the background on the TV. Then
- 10:31Speaker 1: we see her walking up some stairs to like an
- 10:34Speaker 1: overpass over a I don't know, like a street, and
- 10:37Speaker 1: she's on the overpass and the wind picks up and
- 10:39Speaker 1: her hat like flies off her head and everything just freezes,
- 10:43Speaker 1: including her hat and a crow that's flying overhead. She
- 10:47Speaker 1: looks up at it and then just kind of walks off,
- 10:50Speaker 1: just leaving her hat hanging in the air. I just
- 10:53Speaker 1: like it I think it's cool. And unfortunately, as much
- 10:57Speaker 1: as I like the song, Duvet, I don't really like
- 10:59Speaker 1: Boa as a band. I think they broke up and
- 11:02Speaker 1: then they got back together semi recently, but you know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: they're just not really my thing. But I love the song.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So yeah, let's let's move on. So back from the opening,
- 11:12Speaker 1: we fade into like a green tinted overexposed city street
- 11:17Speaker 1: with people crossing acrosswalks. You know, it's like a four
- 11:19Speaker 1: we intersection, so there's multiple crosswalks, and we cut to
- 11:23Speaker 1: the crosswalk light and it turns red. We get some
- 11:27Speaker 1: like really distorted lights that I think are supposed to
- 11:30Speaker 1: be maybe cars, but it's really distorted. Like I just said,
- 11:34Speaker 1: there are some shots of like like a dark city
- 11:37Speaker 1: with neon lights, and we hear a voice say, why
- 11:41Speaker 1: why won't you come? Lots of people are walking because
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's a city again, and the voice continues, I wish
- 11:49Speaker 1: you'd come here. We cut to a taxi pulling away
- 11:51Speaker 1: from the curb, and then to like a low shot
- 11:55Speaker 1: of looking up at like power lines that are you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: across the sky, and there are clouds moving really quickly overhead,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and then we go to the title card in English weird
- 12:05Speaker 1: layer zero one. The words kind of like swirl into
- 12:09Speaker 1: place and they're kind of on like a blue kind
- 12:11Speaker 1: of computer looking screen. By the way. Oh yes, and
- 12:14Speaker 1: all of the titles of the episodes I'm pretty sure
- 12:16Speaker 1: are in English, so that's always interesting. And weird is
- 12:20Speaker 1: a pretty good title because this is weird. We see
- 12:23Speaker 1: some people walking down the street now, and then everything
- 12:27Speaker 1: kind of goes black, and then we see a bag
- 12:29Speaker 1: being dropped, like a school bag. We see a girl
- 12:33Speaker 1: with like black pigtails and glasses like leaning against a
- 12:37Speaker 1: wall kind of like with one hand on the wall
- 12:39Speaker 1: and her other hand is on her chest and she's
- 12:41Speaker 1: breathing really hard. Apparently it looked like it was a
- 12:44Speaker 1: brick wall, and we see like her shadow, I guess,
- 12:48Speaker 1: but it like has red dots in it, like doesn't
- 12:51Speaker 1: look like a normal shadow exactly, And obviously she's not
- 12:56Speaker 1: doing well, and people are passing by, and these three girls,
- 13:00Speaker 1: they look like maybe their high school kids, just stop
- 13:02Speaker 1: and point at her. And the first girl's like, look
- 13:04Speaker 1: look at that, and two of them start to laugh.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And I don't even think that the girl who's standing
- 13:10Speaker 1: there panting, he even notices that they're passing her by
- 13:13Speaker 1: and she leans her back against the wall, and a
- 13:16Speaker 1: lot of this area, like it might be an alley
- 13:18Speaker 1: or something, is in shadow, and anywhere that their shadow.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It's just kind of like this black with like red
- 13:25Speaker 1: moving dots in it. It's weird. The camera pans up
- 13:29Speaker 1: and he cuts to this like weird multi colored shimmering
- 13:32Speaker 1: screen that's like really psychedelic looking. I'm going to call
- 13:35Speaker 1: this the psychedelic screen. Moving forward, and some Japanese words
- 13:39Speaker 1: are kind of like rippling on it, and they say,
- 13:42Speaker 1: the reason you have to do it is something you
- 13:45Speaker 1: have to consider yourself. We got to a scene of
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, looking up at power lines and they're buzzing,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and then everything just goes white. We now see a
- 13:55Speaker 1: couple walking down the streets. There's a guy and the
- 13:58Speaker 1: girl is kind of like a yado, you know, she's
- 14:01Speaker 1: got like really tan skin and like really light lipstick.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And the guy's like, gotcha and he throws his arms
- 14:06Speaker 1: around her. We quickly cut to feet standing like near
- 14:10Speaker 1: a ledge, and then back to the guy as he
- 14:12Speaker 1: holds the girl closer and she's like, hey, cut it out.
- 14:15Speaker 1: The guy says why. The girl kind of pushes him
- 14:18Speaker 1: off and is like, don't. Guy says, what's the problem.
- 14:22Speaker 1: He grabs her again, is She kind of struggles and continues,
- 14:25Speaker 1: don't play hard to get come on, let's go someplace happy.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that that was supposed to be playful
- 14:32Speaker 1: and not upsetting, but it kind of upset me a little.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We see the girl with the pigtails again. She takes
- 14:39Speaker 1: off her glasses and she kind of smiles slightly now,
- 14:43Speaker 1: which seems like a pretty big departure from her like
- 14:45Speaker 1: coughing against the wall. Her hair blows in the breeze
- 14:49Speaker 1: and her hair ties come off. We see that she's
- 14:52Speaker 1: holding some sort of railing with one hand, reaching out
- 14:55Speaker 1: with her other hand. Her glasses are in it, which
- 14:58Speaker 1: is weird. We see that she's standing on like the
- 15:01Speaker 1: very edge of a rooftop. She says something, but we
- 15:04Speaker 1: don't have any audio here, but she is smiling, so
- 15:08Speaker 1: that's good. Yay. We cut to that psychedelic screen. Then
- 15:12Speaker 1: the words say, I don't need to be here. She
- 15:17Speaker 1: slowly releases her grip on the rail and falls. Her
- 15:22Speaker 1: clothes rip on a power line as she's plummeting, and
- 15:26Speaker 1: then she crashes right into like a sign that's over store.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It breaks and falls and like crates a beer fall
- 15:33Speaker 1: over under it and crash, and then a puddle seeps
- 15:36Speaker 1: out from under all of this mass. The man and
- 15:41Speaker 1: that gouted woman are kissing and they hear the crash
- 15:44Speaker 1: and stop and look over, and not only do they
- 15:46Speaker 1: see the sign fall to the ground, but her arm
- 15:50Speaker 1: is protruding from under it, and the sign is still
- 15:53Speaker 1: kind of on, but it's flickering now and its light
- 15:56Speaker 1: is reflected in the puddle of blood around it. Someone says,
- 16:00Speaker 1: what the hell. Someone else is like, what happens? The
- 16:03Speaker 1: couple are just staring and we see this girl's bloody
- 16:07Speaker 1: hand again, and someone else says, we don't know anything.
- 16:10Speaker 1: We just got here. We had nothing to do with this.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Blood is dripping from somewhere. I think maybe the power lines.
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's slightly had a focus. Someone else says, she came
- 16:20Speaker 1: out of nowhere. She came from the sky, guys. Someone
- 16:23Speaker 1: else is like, oh no. The camera pans up to
- 16:26Speaker 1: the edge of the roof where she fell from, and
- 16:29Speaker 1: her bag is still there, and it's got like a
- 16:30Speaker 1: little duck charm on it, and it's just kind of
- 16:32Speaker 1: hanging off of the ledge, we fade to black. We
- 16:35Speaker 1: cut to a very overexposed neighborhood. Houses are you know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: mostly in shadow and you know, partially silhouetted, and there
- 16:44Speaker 1: is silhoul power lines overhead. The sky is just dark white,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and the shadows are that black with the red things
- 16:52Speaker 1: in them, and we hear talking and laughing in the background.
- 16:56Speaker 1: The power lines are buzzing continuously. We see that psychedelic
- 17:00Speaker 1: screen It says, if I remain in a place like this,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I can't stay connected. Then we cut to a scene
- 17:06Speaker 1: that is so overexposed that I didn't know what it was. Okay.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It is the front porch of a house, and a
- 17:13Speaker 1: girl in a school uniform with brown you know, kind
- 17:16Speaker 1: of above shoulder length hair, walks out and starts to
- 17:20Speaker 1: walk down these steps that barely look like steps, because
- 17:23Speaker 1: that's how overexposed it is. She has brown eyes, and
- 17:28Speaker 1: like the left side of her hair is a little
- 17:29Speaker 1: bit longer than the right side. It's kind of got
- 17:32Speaker 1: like a long piece. I don't know. Now she's walking
- 17:35Speaker 1: down the street and it is just kind of bizarrely quiet,
- 17:37Speaker 1: except for the power lines buzzing overhead. There are a
- 17:40Speaker 1: lot of them. We cut to white, and then to
- 17:43Speaker 1: her standing in a train like by the doors, watching
- 17:47Speaker 1: the power lines go by, and there's like a weird
- 17:51Speaker 1: distortion in the background that I think is like a
- 17:52Speaker 1: combination of train noise and people talking. They're not talking
- 17:56Speaker 1: very loudly, but the girl closes her eyes and she's like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: what a racket? Can you be quiet? A bunch of
- 18:02Speaker 1: people look up at her, confused, and she just continues
- 18:06Speaker 1: to stare out the window. After a second, they go
- 18:08Speaker 1: back to what they were doing. We see the train
- 18:11Speaker 1: going by now, and we focus on the power lines
- 18:13Speaker 1: for a little too long, and then we see lots
- 18:16Speaker 1: of kids. They're all girls walking down the street wearing
- 18:19Speaker 1: school uniforms, and they are going through like the main
- 18:23Speaker 1: gate of a school, and the concrete that they're walking
- 18:27Speaker 1: across is white because of the sun and overexposure, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: we see feet approach and then stop. The girl just
- 18:34Speaker 1: stands there, looking ahead of herself, just kind of with
- 18:36Speaker 1: a blank expression. She looks down at her shadow, which is,
- 18:41Speaker 1: you know, kind of rippling in a way that you'd
- 18:43Speaker 1: really hope your shadow would not ripple with weird colors
- 18:45Speaker 1: in it. Eventually, she looks up and towards the kids
- 18:49Speaker 1: that are walking in front of her towards the school building.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Background fades completely into white now and they become these sketchy,
- 18:56Speaker 1: silhouetted shadows that eventually just fade into the whiteness as well. Well.
- 19:00Speaker 1: The girl stands there kind of in the blinding white
- 19:03Speaker 1: and cocks her head and squints. She needs glasses to
- 19:07Speaker 1: the psychedelic screen. Hurry everybody. We now see her placing
- 19:11Speaker 1: her bag down on a desk and sitting down at
- 19:15Speaker 1: the desk, and there's a girl crying in the background,
- 19:18Speaker 1: which is a little weird, but I would cry if
- 19:21Speaker 1: I was at school as well. The girl looks over
- 19:24Speaker 1: and she sees this girl with light brown hair sobbing
- 19:26Speaker 1: at her desk as like a bunch of kids stand
- 19:29Speaker 1: over her. One girl standing over her says, Judy, don't
- 19:32Speaker 1: make such a big deal out of it. Another girl says, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 1: it's just some stupid prank, Judy, I assume the girl
- 19:38Speaker 1: who's sobbing says, but shakes her head. One of the
- 19:43Speaker 1: girls pats her on the back and kneels down to
- 19:44Speaker 1: comfort her. Our main girl like just stops watching them
- 19:48Speaker 1: and turns back and takes out her books, and we
- 19:50Speaker 1: hear a voice say, Laane, our main girl looks over.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I guess her name is Lane. Yay, She says, huh.
- 19:57Speaker 1: One of the girls who had just been comforting Judy
- 19:59Speaker 1: is standing in front of her now and says, did
- 20:03Speaker 1: you get one too? Lane is silent for a while,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and then she says, what the girl's like? Email? Lane
- 20:11Speaker 1: says email. The girl looks kind of frustrated, and she
- 20:15Speaker 1: says from Chisa Yomota. Laane looks away. I'm not very
- 20:20Speaker 1: good with computers. The girl says, you should at least
- 20:24Speaker 1: check your mail once a day. Well, that's up to you.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I guess. The other girl who had been comforting Jerry
- 20:28Speaker 1: walks over as well, and she says Lane's such a baby.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Laane focuses her attention back on Judy. Why is she crying?
- 20:36Speaker 1: The second meaner girl says because she got an email
- 20:39Speaker 1: from Chisa Yomota. That's why I didn't help me at all.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Maybe she said Yomota is really mean. Laane looks back
- 20:46Speaker 1: at them and says, Sheisa, who's that? Well, second girl's
- 20:50Speaker 1: like she was in class D. She killed herself last
- 20:53Speaker 1: week by jumping off a building in Shibuya. Come on
- 20:56Speaker 1: the teacher's told everyone. Laine is just staring at her.
- 21:00Speaker 1: The first girl who was comforting Judy says, it's not
- 21:03Speaker 1: just Judy. A lot of people have got mail from
- 21:05Speaker 1: her in the last week. Lane's like, but she's The
- 21:08Speaker 1: girl continues, right, you shouldn't be getting male from a
- 21:12Speaker 1: dead girl, but there it is. We cut to the
- 21:15Speaker 1: teacher now writing I guess math on the board. I
- 21:19Speaker 1: guess I was writing it out because I didn't understand
- 21:23Speaker 1: it all. So it says print F and then parentheses.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I don't know, quote mark, percentage signed C is greater
- 21:31Speaker 1: than percentage of. I think it's a yen symbol, end
- 21:35Speaker 1: to the end, and I don't know. I think that's
- 21:37Speaker 1: all I got. Lane is watching, looking super confused. I
- 21:41Speaker 1: get it, Lane, I don't do math very well either.
- 21:44Speaker 1: As she stares at the board, the words start to
- 21:47Speaker 1: get blurry and she squints and they kind of ripple
- 21:50Speaker 1: and start to DISINTEGRATEE. Someone needs to get her glasses.
- 21:55Speaker 1: She sighs and looks down at her notebook, which she
- 21:58Speaker 1: hasn't written anything in, and then she drops her pen,
- 22:01Speaker 1: which is pink and has a little bear on it,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and she stares at her hand as she's doing this.
- 22:06Speaker 1: The only sound we have is the chalk clacking against
- 22:09Speaker 1: the blackboard, like super unsettlingly loudly, and her fingertips all
- 22:14Speaker 1: of a sudden just start letting out smoke. Okay, she
- 22:17Speaker 1: watches it just kind of drift through the air. I
- 22:20Speaker 1: don't know if she is having issues mentally, or if
- 22:24Speaker 1: she really likes daydreaming and she's doing some maladaptive daydreaming
- 22:28Speaker 1: right here, or if this is really happening. I don't know,
- 22:31Speaker 1: but it's weird. We cut to that psychedelic screen again
- 22:34Speaker 1: and that says dying it really hurts, and then there's
- 22:39Speaker 1: like a laugh. Yeah, okay, sure. Now we see powerline
- 22:44Speaker 1: silhouettes humming on a yellow gray sky. Lane is walking
- 22:48Speaker 1: down the streets through like those red blotchy shadows that
- 22:52Speaker 1: just kind of exist in this world, and kind of
- 22:55Speaker 1: focus on her white two story house at the end
- 22:58Speaker 1: of the block, and I guess she's looking through the
- 23:02Speaker 1: door in the living room and it's just empty, and
- 23:05Speaker 1: it's an open floor plan, so we can see that
- 23:07Speaker 1: the dining room is also empty as well. Sun is
- 23:10Speaker 1: streaming in through the windows and she kind of backs away.
- 23:13Speaker 1: We see a door open and she walks into her bedroom.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I assume it's kind of sparse and dark except for
- 23:21Speaker 1: like the light coming from the window, And there's like
- 23:23Speaker 1: a bhutan and a desk and some shadows of stuffed
- 23:26Speaker 1: animals that when I look at them, I don't know
- 23:28Speaker 1: where they are, Like there's some on the floor, but
- 23:31Speaker 1: there also looks like there's some on the window sill,
- 23:33Speaker 1: but they're literally only shadows. I don't know where the
- 23:35Speaker 1: stuffed animals are. It weirds me out. She walks over
- 23:38Speaker 1: to the desk and she puts her school bag on it.
- 23:41Speaker 1: She looks at the computer that's on the desk, which
- 23:43Speaker 1: is this weird red monstrosity that I don't know that
- 23:46Speaker 1: computers have ever looked like. Aside from the computer, there's
- 23:49Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff on the desk. There are books,
- 23:51Speaker 1: an alarm clock, a Teddy bear, lots of pens, and
- 23:53Speaker 1: a cup, stuff like that. Then she walks over to
- 23:56Speaker 1: the futon and she starts to unbutton her jackets and
- 24:00Speaker 1: plops down on it and sighs. She takes off her
- 24:03Speaker 1: jacket and places it on her lap, and then looks
- 24:05Speaker 1: back over at the computer. The alarm clock says it's
- 24:07Speaker 1: five poin fifty nine by the way. She gets up
- 24:10Speaker 1: now and then walks back over to the desk, clearly
- 24:13Speaker 1: not sure what she wants to do, starts cleaning stuff
- 24:16Speaker 1: away from it, and then also takes this little brown
- 24:19Speaker 1: hat with like barriers on it like, off of the
- 24:21Speaker 1: computer and puts it on. And she sits down, and
- 24:24Speaker 1: she turns the computer around and stares at her reflection
- 24:27Speaker 1: in its screen. She presses the power button and the
- 24:32Speaker 1: screen comes on and it says communication os powering up, working,
- 24:37Speaker 1: it's doing computer stuff. It starts making that circle thing,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know, like it's doing something like I just said,
- 24:44Speaker 1: and it says just a little longer, and then it
- 24:47Speaker 1: says lock in. We see a circle with an enter
- 24:49Speaker 1: id like box in the center, and the computer says
- 24:54Speaker 1: out loud, who are you? Lane seems confused, and she
- 24:58Speaker 1: grabs the keyboard and types in la in English, which
- 25:01Speaker 1: I thought was really weird. Computer says Lane, please say
- 25:05Speaker 1: your name voice password appears on the screen and Lane
- 25:09Speaker 1: says la e M. The computer says, accept it. There's
- 25:13Speaker 1: a pause. You must be Lane. Laane has mail. Laine
- 25:17Speaker 1: says from who, Computer's like chisa yamoda oh. Laane stares
- 25:22Speaker 1: in kind of disbelief because yeah, but also you knew
- 25:26Speaker 1: this was gonna happen. Computer says, do you wish to
- 25:29Speaker 1: read the mail? Lane presses on a button, I don't
- 25:32Speaker 1: know what button, and light blue characters kind of slide
- 25:36Speaker 1: onto a dark blueish purplish periwinkle looking as screen like
- 25:40Speaker 1: one at a time, which is pretty interesting. And as
- 25:43Speaker 1: they slide, and they make like a thing sound as
- 25:45Speaker 1: they slide. The computer reads the script aloud, so it says, Hello,
- 25:49Speaker 1: how are you Lane? I walked home with you just once.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Do you remember? Laane nods yeah. The computer continues, They've
- 25:58Speaker 1: only given up my body. By doing this, I can
- 26:01Speaker 1: explain to you that I'm still alive. What I wanted
- 26:05Speaker 1: to let you know this, Lane, So I send this
- 26:07Speaker 1: email to you. The sun is kind of starting to
- 26:10Speaker 1: come through the window more and it's reflecting off of
- 26:12Speaker 1: Lane's eyes, and the computer continues, Do you understand? It's okay?
- 26:17Speaker 1: If you can't right now, you'll all understand soon everyone
- 26:21Speaker 1: will fuck. Lane says, why did you die? Lane? It's
- 26:26Speaker 1: an email? Why are you talking to it? The computer continues.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Rumor at school has it that this is a prank email,
- 26:32Speaker 1: But I want you to know that it isn't Lane.
- 26:35Speaker 1: That's literally what a prank email would say. Lane says,
- 26:39Speaker 1: why why did you die? I'm worried about her mental state.
- 26:43Speaker 1: The computer is quiet for a second and then says
- 26:46Speaker 1: God is here? What Lane says? Huh? We go to
- 26:51Speaker 1: a TV with a news on, no audio, just video obviously,
- 26:56Speaker 1: and there are plates clinking in the background, and then
- 26:59Speaker 1: salad being put in a bowl. We get a close
- 27:02Speaker 1: up of a woman's mouth as she eats rice with chopsticks.
- 27:05Speaker 1: She's got lipstick on. I'm pretty sure it's Lane's mom.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And Lane and her mom I believe, and sister are
- 27:12Speaker 1: sitting at this table in the kitchen, just completely silent.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Laane is stirring her soup. What kind of soup? I'm
- 27:19Speaker 1: not sure. There's not a lot of stuff in it.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Maybe it's like me so soup, but it looks really clear,
- 27:23Speaker 1: so I wasn't sure. The light reflects on her spoon
- 27:26Speaker 1: as she stirs it, and it kind of bakes her squint.
- 27:29Speaker 1: At this point, her sister just stands up and says,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I ate lunch late today. I'm done. She walks away
- 27:35Speaker 1: from the table and leaves the room. She left like
- 27:37Speaker 1: tons of stuff on her plate. Laane stares down at
- 27:39Speaker 1: her soup again and says, mom. Her mom says, what
- 27:45Speaker 1: Lane's like? I got an email? Her mom is still
- 27:49Speaker 1: eating her rice, and Lane continues from a girl who
- 27:52Speaker 1: killed herself last week. Oh yeah, Okay. The mom just
- 27:56Speaker 1: keeps eating and like doesn't even look at her or
- 27:58Speaker 1: acknowledge that Lane has just said something really disturbing that
- 28:02Speaker 1: involves suicide and maybe a ghost, I don't know. Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: so Lane just goes back to eating her soup. Yay.
- 28:10Speaker 1: We now see a computer screen that's like on, and
- 28:13Speaker 1: Lane is leaning against the wall. She's sitting on her futon.
- 28:17Speaker 1: The room is dark, and she's wearing this really great
- 28:20Speaker 1: bear onesie that I love so much. I will stop
- 28:24Speaker 1: here and tell you that when my sister was in
- 28:28Speaker 1: middle school and in high school, she looked like a
- 28:30Speaker 1: lot like Lane. And yeah, every time I see Lane,
- 28:34Speaker 1: it just reminds me of my sister. Anyway, we hear
- 28:37Speaker 1: a car pulling up and we see headlights like on
- 28:41Speaker 1: her ceiling, like you know, changing the direction of the
- 28:44Speaker 1: lights hitting or ceiling, you know how that stuff works.
- 28:47Speaker 1: They go off, and we hear someone walking and probably
- 28:51Speaker 1: coming inside, and we cut some bubble wrap being dropped
- 28:54Speaker 1: on the floor. This guy with dark hair and glasses
- 28:58Speaker 1: is staring proudly at what I think is probably a microchip.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Who knows He has like six monitors on his desk
- 29:04Speaker 1: and a printer, and they're in like two tiers, like
- 29:08Speaker 1: three computers and then another three above them. He puts
- 29:11Speaker 1: the chip into. I guess maybe a computer, I think.
- 29:14Speaker 1: And Lane peers in from the door as he works,
- 29:18Speaker 1: and this person, who I'm pretty sure is her dad, says,
- 29:21Speaker 1: what is it? Lane? We can't even really see him
- 29:23Speaker 1: now because he's behind so many monitors. He continues, it's
- 29:27Speaker 1: certainly unusual to see you in here. Oh that's I mean,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I guess it's his office, but makes me feel like
- 29:33Speaker 1: maybe they don't talk to each other a lot. Sure,
- 29:35Speaker 1: Laane walks in a little and she takes down her
- 29:38Speaker 1: bare hood from her onesie, and she looks at off
- 29:40Speaker 1: the computers and starts to say something, but then just sighs.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But then she kind of regains her composure and she says,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I I was wondering if you could buy me a
- 29:50Speaker 1: new Novey that's what the computer's called. Her dad chuckles
- 29:55Speaker 1: and stands up and says, finally caught the bug. Huh.
- 29:58Speaker 1: He sits down at his desk and hits the power
- 30:00Speaker 1: on his like surge protector, extension core. All of the
- 30:03Speaker 1: monitors turn on in succession, and they're being reflected in
- 30:06Speaker 1: his glasses. He continues, you're in junior high. Now your
- 30:11Speaker 1: friends are leaving you in the dust. Right, computers are
- 30:13Speaker 1: booting up in the background. I keep telling you that
- 30:16Speaker 1: you should use a better machine. He's clicking his mouse
- 30:18Speaker 1: and he goes to files, deformation parameters, networks start logging.
- 30:25Speaker 1: He clicks on fretives. Maybe he types something into application
- 30:33Speaker 1: oblization system like think blue count one two, and it
- 30:37Speaker 1: brings up something. And he continues, you know, Lane, whether
- 30:41Speaker 1: it's in the real world or on the wired people
- 30:43Speaker 1: connect with each other, and that's how societies function. A
- 30:47Speaker 1: bunch of stuff's coming upon the screens and stuff. Lane
- 30:50Speaker 1: is just staring at all this same The dad now
- 30:54Speaker 1: looks excitedly, like way too excitedly at the screen, and
- 30:58Speaker 1: there's like an animation of this man with a suits
- 31:01Speaker 1: and a red bow tie and he has no head.
- 31:04Speaker 1: And he continues, even a girl like you can make
- 31:06Speaker 1: friends right off the bat. Lane, fuck that's mean. Now
- 31:10Speaker 1: we see a headless woman on the screen. She's wearing
- 31:13Speaker 1: lingery maybe, and then another headless guy in a suit.
- 31:17Speaker 1: What is her dad doing? Her dad continues, there's nothing
- 31:20Speaker 1: to be afraid of. He's typing like manically, like a
- 31:24Speaker 1: lot of typing. It's frigging me out, he continues, I
- 31:27Speaker 1: wonder why your mother can't understand that he's continuing to type.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Lane opens her mouth to say something, and it takes
- 31:35Speaker 1: her a while because he's so fucking absorbed in whatever
- 31:38Speaker 1: the fuck he's doing, And she finally says, I'm not scared.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Her dad's like, but why bring up your navy. All
- 31:45Speaker 1: of a sudden, Lane is quiet for a second. There's
- 31:49Speaker 1: a friend I want to see, No what Her dad
- 31:55Speaker 1: presses a key on the keyboard and chuckles like he's
- 31:57Speaker 1: not even listening to her. We got to power lines
- 32:03Speaker 1: passing by the window of a train. Lane is staring
- 32:05Speaker 1: at at them, standing again at the door, and all
- 32:08Speaker 1: of a sudden, the train like shakes violently and people
- 32:12Speaker 1: screen and Lane just like falls over because she wasn't
- 32:14Speaker 1: holding on anything. And then we hear over the intercom
- 32:17Speaker 1: we apologize for the inconvenience ladies and gentlemen. The train
- 32:20Speaker 1: has currently stopped due to an accident. Fuck. We hear
- 32:24Speaker 1: someone say what and someone else is like, with someone hit,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and then another person says, I can't believe this. Laane
- 32:30Speaker 1: gets to her feet and she goes back to the
- 32:32Speaker 1: window and she's about to put her hand on the glass,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but she stops and gasps. Blood is dripping down from
- 32:39Speaker 1: the power line, like right next to the door that
- 32:42Speaker 1: she's standing at. We fade to white and then slowly
- 32:45Speaker 1: back into Lane standing in the middle of a busy crosswalk.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Then her standing at the bottom of the steps out
- 32:52Speaker 1: of the subway and she looks behind her, and then
- 32:56Speaker 1: she is at the school, standing in the courtyard. Then
- 33:00Speaker 1: we go to a really weird fish eye shot of
- 33:02Speaker 1: her standing in her dining room and she just looks
- 33:05Speaker 1: really blank. Yeah, trauma geez. Finally she closes her eyes
- 33:11Speaker 1: and maybe smiles slightly. Next we see flashing red lights
- 33:17Speaker 1: from like a train crossing, and we get a close
- 33:20Speaker 1: up on Lane on her eye, like open wide, and
- 33:25Speaker 1: there are silhouettes of power lines overhead because that's gonna
- 33:28Speaker 1: be a theme in the show. And this white mist
- 33:32Speaker 1: rolls in from both sides in the area becomes very
- 33:34Speaker 1: dark and foggy, and we cut back to that red
- 33:37Speaker 1: train crossing light again and Lane looks down and the
- 33:40Speaker 1: fog clears enough for her to see that she's standing
- 33:43Speaker 1: on the tracks. Fuck in the distance were the sound
- 33:46Speaker 1: of a train approaching. She looks behind her and there's
- 33:50Speaker 1: this person looks like a girl in a school uniform.
- 33:53Speaker 1: We can't see her face though, and she like pushes
- 33:55Speaker 1: her way under like the train crossing like the barrier thing,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and she goes onto the track and the train honks
- 34:01Speaker 1: its horn. Lane looks up in its lights as it
- 34:04Speaker 1: approaches through the fog. She looks at the girl in
- 34:06Speaker 1: the tracks, whose face is obscured by her hair, but
- 34:09Speaker 1: it's blowing in the wind. Lane, who I guess, isn't
- 34:11Speaker 1: on the tracks anymore. It's a little confusing there calls
- 34:14Speaker 1: out to her, but we don't hear anything, and I
- 34:17Speaker 1: don't think the girl hears anything either. The train is
- 34:19Speaker 1: like really approaching now, and the girl just like dashes
- 34:22Speaker 1: out in front of it. Lane is still trying to
- 34:25Speaker 1: call to her, but she can't, and we get a
- 34:27Speaker 1: glimpse of the girl's face now, which first looks like
- 34:31Speaker 1: she's smiling and maybe not a way you want someone
- 34:33Speaker 1: to smile at you, and then it morphs into a
- 34:35Speaker 1: scream and then back to a smile. Yay. The train
- 34:39Speaker 1: kind of cashes up to where they are now rushing
- 34:41Speaker 1: past Lane, and she covers her face because she just
- 34:44Speaker 1: inches away from it. Then we go to white. The
- 34:47Speaker 1: screen is just white for a while, and there's tapping
- 34:49Speaker 1: in the background, and we slowly fade into Lane's notebook
- 34:53Speaker 1: and I know it's hers because there's the pink bear
- 34:55Speaker 1: pen on it and drops of water are landing on it.
- 34:59Speaker 1: That's the tapping sound. I thought that they were teardrops,
- 35:02Speaker 1: but they're not. Lane is just covered in sweat. Her
- 35:06Speaker 1: eyes are closed. She has her head in her hands,
- 35:08Speaker 1: and her voice says iwakudasam. Another beat of sweat drops
- 35:12Speaker 1: from her chin, and she finally opens her eyes and gasps,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and she looks around at all the other kids who
- 35:16Speaker 1: are silently working in the classroom, and the teacher is
- 35:19Speaker 1: standing in front of her and says iwakuda sam. Lane's like, yes, ma'am.
- 35:25Speaker 1: The teacher says this will be on the test and
- 35:28Speaker 1: walks away. Laane squints at the board and the words
- 35:33Speaker 1: begin to ripple and blur. She needs glasses. As they blur,
- 35:38Speaker 1: they really start to fucking morph. And there are a
- 35:41Speaker 1: bunch of like extra white lines and shapes on the
- 35:43Speaker 1: board now, and then the characters fur come on the
- 35:47Speaker 1: wired quickly appear so she can see sometimes yeay. Lane
- 35:52Speaker 1: gasps and probably thinks about part of the note from
- 35:55Speaker 1: you know, the dead girl, but we're like seeing it,
- 35:57Speaker 1: and it's not translated, so I'm not one hundred percent
- 35:59Speaker 1: sure it was apposed to say. And then all of
- 36:01Speaker 1: a sudden, the board is normal, and we see that
- 36:04Speaker 1: they're learning English. They are practicing I don't know if
- 36:07Speaker 1: tenses or something, because it's like when I came home,
- 36:10Speaker 1: mother was cooking stuff like that. Yay, I could read
- 36:14Speaker 1: that because I can read English. We now cut to
- 36:18Speaker 1: the hum of power lines. As Lane walks down the streets.
- 36:21Speaker 1: The shadows are still there, we're still super overexposed, but
- 36:24Speaker 1: they have blue dots in them. Now, some girl passes
- 36:27Speaker 1: her by. Was that GSA? Lane notices after she passes,
- 36:33Speaker 1: and then CHSA just kind of pops out of existence.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Lane stops walking and turns back. Shesa is standing there again,
- 36:41Speaker 1: kind of with her face pointed down maybe three yards
- 36:45Speaker 1: from Lane. Lane gasps and fully turns towards her now
- 36:49Speaker 1: and says, she said, sehn, Sheisa doesn't move. I don't
- 36:54Speaker 1: think Jessa is alive. And Lane's like, where are you?
- 36:58Speaker 1: Shesa's smiles and look up at Lane and then back
- 37:01Speaker 1: down at the ground. Laane just kind of stares at
- 37:04Speaker 1: her because I get it. We get a close up
- 37:06Speaker 1: shot on she SA's eyes and they look, honestly just
- 37:10Speaker 1: really blank and kind of sad. She turns to white
- 37:15Speaker 1: and then basically splits into like a potato or orange
- 37:18Speaker 1: peel thing. It disappears. It was really cool, and Lane's
- 37:21Speaker 1: like wait, and then we get a screen that says
- 37:24Speaker 1: to be continued in English, and we go the ending
- 37:27Speaker 1: theme yay, which is by Raichie na Kaido rachiekna Kaido
- 37:32Speaker 1: and it's called Tui sa kibbi or I guess in
- 37:36Speaker 1: English distant Cry maybe, and the song is totally okay,
- 37:41Speaker 1: but it's basically just a shot of Lane sleeping naked
- 37:45Speaker 1: on like a green, wiry background surrounded by maybe computers,
- 37:51Speaker 1: so that's a little bit weird. And then that's it, yay,
- 37:55Speaker 1: I guess okay. Closing thoughts I liked that that was fun.
- 38:02Speaker 1: So stuff's going on. We have a dead kid who's
- 38:05Speaker 1: communicating with people through the internet, baby or the wed
- 38:10Speaker 1: I guess that's what we call the internet in this world.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But she said it wasn't a scam, so I think
- 38:15Speaker 1: it's probably a scam. But Lane is also now seeing
- 38:17Speaker 1: her and having dreams about people killing themselves, So I'm
- 38:20Speaker 1: getting a little bit worried for Lane's sanity. And it
- 38:23Speaker 1: sucks that she's doing all these things that are like,
- 38:27Speaker 1: oh no, something's wrong with this person. Like she's probably
- 38:30Speaker 1: failing at school, I would assume, because she can't see
- 38:33Speaker 1: the board. Like she's telling her mom like a dead
- 38:37Speaker 1: girl emailed me, and like she's acting noticeably different to
- 38:41Speaker 1: her father, and nobody is like doing anything about it
- 38:44Speaker 1: or really paying attention to her at all, like her mom.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I don't know what's up with her mom. That was
- 38:49Speaker 1: kind of upsetting, just like the whole Do you even
- 38:52Speaker 1: know that this person is sitting at the table with you,
- 38:53Speaker 1: because it doesn't seem like you do. I mean, at
- 38:55Speaker 1: least her dad acknowledged her presence, so we know Lane
- 38:58Speaker 1: isn't like a ghost or something, unless her dad is
- 39:01Speaker 1: dead too, but I don't think so. I don't think
- 39:03Speaker 1: that's the message I was supposed to get from that.
- 39:05Speaker 1: But her dad is like all into his whatever the
- 39:08Speaker 1: hell he's doing on the computer, which didn't seem good,
- 39:11Speaker 1: like made me uncomfortable. And obviously we know that there's
- 39:15Speaker 1: tension between him and Lane's mom about computer things, but
- 39:18Speaker 1: like she's got like six of them, and I don't
- 39:21Speaker 1: know what's going on, but yeah, so it seems like
- 39:25Speaker 1: she doesn't have a support system. There's no one to
- 39:26Speaker 1: talk to about these weird things that are happening, and
- 39:29Speaker 1: these things that are happening that are sad, I mean,
- 39:32Speaker 1: but not super weird and just terrible, Like she at
- 39:35Speaker 1: least partially saw that train accident and that's really fucked
- 39:39Speaker 1: her up. Like nobody's there, So I'm a little worried
- 39:44Speaker 1: about her, and I just I feel like her entire
- 39:47Speaker 1: family is very cold to each other as far as
- 39:49Speaker 1: I can see so far. And yeah, it's just it's
- 39:52Speaker 1: got to be hard to be a teenage girl going
- 39:55Speaker 1: through weird things like dead friend internet stuff and seeing
- 40:00Speaker 1: train accidents and not have anybody to talk to. So
- 40:03Speaker 1: I'm interested to see where this goes, because yeah, So
- 40:07Speaker 1: aside from all the things I just said, the music
- 40:10Speaker 1: in this is really good and I will remember next
- 40:13Speaker 1: thing to tell you who the uh the composer is.
- 40:16Speaker 1: It's like really unsettling. There's a lot of times where
- 40:19Speaker 1: there's not any music where we're just having sound effects,
- 40:21Speaker 1: which works really really well to make this more like
- 40:24Speaker 1: uncanny and weird. And the art is just really cool.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I like the way the backgrounds are hyper overexposed and
- 40:32Speaker 1: the characters are like not so it almost looks like
- 40:34Speaker 1: there's a compositing error. And the scenes where like Lane
- 40:37Speaker 1: is just walking through this neighborhood that you can barely
- 40:39Speaker 1: see anything because it's so overexposed. But I think it's
- 40:42Speaker 1: intentional to be kind of like eerie, because they could
- 40:46Speaker 1: have made it cohesive, I feel like, fairly easily, and
- 40:49Speaker 1: they just chose not to. I really believe that. I
- 40:52Speaker 1: don't believe it's a mistake. So yeah, it's been interesting
- 40:56Speaker 1: so far. It'll be fun to see where this goes.
- 41:00Speaker 1: She's a doing what did she mean? God is here?
- 41:02Speaker 1: How will everyone see? I'm scared? Is she going to
- 41:07Speaker 1: try to convince Lane to kill herself? Is like that?
- 41:09Speaker 1: What's happening? Is it something like that, or is you know,
- 41:12Speaker 1: it's something else. Is she really a ghost? Is this
- 41:14Speaker 1: all in Lane's head? I guess we're going to find out.
- 41:17Speaker 1: So yay, we just did the first episode and now
- 41:21Speaker 1: I am going to go and do something, but I
- 41:24Speaker 1: don't know what. So yeah, anyway, I hope you have
- 41:29Speaker 1: a really good whatever, and that when you're listening to
- 41:32Speaker 1: this it is not as warm as it is here
- 41:33Speaker 1: today because it is like in the eighties and it
- 41:36Speaker 1: is fucking April and we're not supposed to be there.
- 41:39Speaker 1: So yeah, I will see you next week unless something
- 41:44Speaker 1: terrible happens, or you know, some girl comes to talk
- 41:48Speaker 1: to me about how God is here and how she
- 41:50Speaker 1: killed herself. Later reaps
