Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:20Brothers and sisters, thank you so much for watching, listening and sharing the podcast
- 0:24Laura Perry, Smolts is back with us.
- 0:28I was going to say she's in the house, but not really.
- 0:30She's zooming in from Oklahoma.
- 0:33Sister, thank you so much for your time today.
- 0:35Good to see you.
- 0:36Good to see you too.
- 0:37Thank you so much for having me on.
- 0:39You're most welcome.
- 0:40And I don't remember if you had the Eden's Redemption site last time.
- 0:45Maybe you'd have, and I'm just getting used to Eden's Redemption.org is the new site.
- 0:50So, friends or website, get all the information, lots of great resources, if you know someone
- 0:55who is struggling with sexual identity crisis, the LGBTQ, it's been marketed very well.
- 1:03We were talking about that before we got on the podcast.
- 1:05It's evil, the marketing of evil.
- 1:07They've been doing a great job of recruiting, some call it grooming.
- 1:12I sometimes call it making disciples of the left for the enemy.
- 1:18We're supposed to make disciples for Christ, and the enemy's, man, we're on to him,
- 1:24but we've got a lot of work to do.
- 1:25So, give us a quick overview of what you've been doing since we talked last.
- 1:30I know you've been traveling.
- 1:30You went, was it chilly?
- 1:32You went on a mission strip?
- 1:33Just tell us, give us a little update on what you've been doing, Laura.
- 1:37Yeah, in beginning of 2024, my husband and I formed Eden's Redemption,
- 1:42we are a 501c3 nonprofit, which was funny, because people said, for years,
- 1:48I would open my own ministry, and I always said, that is hilarious, I'll never do that.
- 1:52I would say, if I ever open my own ministry, you will notice the Lord,
- 1:57and not me, because I had no plan to do that.
- 2:00But we really feel like the Lord wants us to teach and equip the church,
- 2:05and we travel and speak of all kinds of different places.
- 2:09The Lord is opening up opportunities internationally, and now the Lord is beginning to open opportunities,
- 2:15not only in the church and in the Christian world, but in the secular world as well.
- 2:20Next spring, we are still working.
- 2:22We don't have definitive plans, but I'm working with a ministry to be able to speak in public schools,
- 2:30on behalf of, so the school itself is not inviting me, and they wouldn't, probably,
- 2:36but I can be there as a guest of a Christian club, and some of these,
- 2:40it's through a ministry called Decision Point, and they are seeing so many kids come to Christ through
- 2:46these. They're actually having a lot of kids show up. When I was in Christian club,
- 2:50or actually I wasn't, but they had Christian club when I was in high school,
- 2:54you'd have like three people, but they're having 30, 40, sometimes more show up to these meetings,
- 2:59and sometimes hundreds at these rallies, so an incredible opportunity.
- 3:04So I am so excited about what the Lord is doing.
- 3:06So am I. It's really an interesting time where things have gotten so dark,
- 3:13but yet there's light that seems to be growing and increasing, especially among the youth.
- 3:18Have you noticed, I mean, particularly since the assassination of Charlie Kirk,
- 3:22not only the growth, and I mean, turning point USA, the chapters in schools and colleges across
- 3:28country, that's blowing up, but also the openness toward God, truth, spiritual things,
- 3:34and this must, Laura, have an impact on those who are struggling with their identity,
- 3:40lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender. We'll talk a little bit about some polls and some figures
- 3:46in a few minutes, but what do you perceive at like a overall big picture view of what's happening
- 3:51in that regard? Yeah, it's interesting. I was really impacted by it as well. I was at
- 3:58in Colorado speaking at Andrew Womack's ministry, and that was his very next event.
- 4:05It wasn't out of the college campus. He was supposed to speak at the conference,
- 4:09so he was supposed to speak that next night, and then I was going to speak the following day.
- 4:13And I actually, I didn't realize this till later. He was originally supposed to be on the
- 4:19Andrew's TV broadcast, and I took his place that day. It had already been rescheduled
- 4:25a couple of months before that I would take his place because he decided to do that Utah event.
- 4:29I don't know how long that was planned later. So that is really impacted me as well,
- 4:37but what I'm seeing is, like you said, more openness toward God. People are really listening to his
- 4:45videos, and that's what it doesn't surprise me because I grew up in a town called Bartlesville,
- 4:51Oklahoma, where I think I heard of the ministry voice of the martyr. Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:56Okay, voice of the martyr is headquartered where I grew up in Bartlesville.
- 5:00So I grew up hearing a lot about martyrs and missionaries all the time, and I've always heard
- 5:07this that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the saints. And anywhere you see persecution,
- 5:13the gospel flourishes, and I think that's what we're seeing here. It's a spiritual principle,
- 5:17and every time the enemy tries to take out one, it multiplies it.
- 5:21Yeah. So we're going to get to a very fascinating article. Actually, a couple articles and some trends,
- 5:27and one author of an article goes so far, one writer says that the transgender, the B in the T
- 5:35and the Q bisectual transgender queer, you can almost compare that to a fashion trend,
- 5:41and you know how fashions come and go. I'm not sure if I would say that, but it's an interesting
- 5:47comparison. So Laura, before we get to this article that talks about gender identity being a trend,
- 5:52and it's just not as popular anymore, and the numbers seem to support that. Talk about your health,
- 6:01and I know we want to pray for you specifically. For the last several years, I think you've had
- 6:06some some cognitive issues, or what can you explain that? Just condense it for us so we can
- 6:13be praying for you because you've got to continue to be out there and do ministry.
- 6:17Yeah, we don't know exactly what's causing it. I'm still trying to get answers from doctors,
- 6:24but for three years, I've had chronic issues with my brain. I know that they found
- 6:32massive inflammation in the brain with vasculitis, but there's been some ongoing issues.
- 6:39I was having seizures for a long time. That's a little bit stabilized with medication,
- 6:45but I'm still having a lot of chronic neurological issues with,
- 6:50you know, almost like pins and needles in my head chronically, and a lot of numbness,
- 6:55and it causes, sometimes I can't walk very well, I can't talk, I can't respond, I can't move,
- 7:01and really debilitating fatigue and a host of other issues. So it's really just becoming more
- 7:07and more debilitated. And yet, every time I go speak, the Lord gives me the strength and the endurance
- 7:12that I need. I've been dealing with it three years, and every time I'm like, Lord, I can't do this,
- 7:18but God always strengthens, but I really need prayer. We need answers from the doctors and so I don't
- 7:25know. Sometimes that's just as frustrating not having answers or something that you can treat
- 7:31specifically really quick. I don't want to take too much more time, but inflammation, there's a lot
- 7:36of things, naturally, a lot of things that can be taken to help inflammation. Are you doing some
- 7:40of those, like, I guess, turmeric and other things? Yeah, I've done lots of things, and I have, I really
- 7:46am like, I feel like the woman with the issue of blood, I've been sick my entire life. I've had
- 7:51autoimmune diseases many, many times in my life and had multiple. By the time I was 19, no, yeah,
- 7:59I'd had almost, I think it was 15 different diagnoses of major diseases, and not a hypochondrag.
- 8:06I mean, I really, I've just been sick my entire life. It's just been something I've always struggled
- 8:11with. We've been down the road of naturopaths and functional medicine and traditional doctors,
- 8:16and I can get better for a little while, and then something else starts going wrong with my immune
- 8:21system, and it just never been able to solve it. So I can do some of those things and I might get
- 8:26a little better, but after spending thousands and thousands of dollars, you know, don't point
- 8:32myself back in the same boat. And this has just been, I mean, we're literally my entire life. I was
- 8:37very sickly as a child. Wow, that must be frustrating. So, you know, Lord, give her a breakthrough,
- 8:43heal her in the name of Jesus, friends, family, and Christ. Remember to lift up Laura,
- 8:48and her husband, Perry, because he's got to carry a little bit more weight when you're not feeling
- 8:52well. That's any spouse can relate to that. So, all right, let's get into the topic. One of them,
- 8:59a new study that spotlights, if this one says what we already knew, Sarah Holiday is a writer here
- 9:04at the Washington stand. Gender identity is a trend, and not as cool, not so cool anymore. And she
- 9:11calls it a fleeting cultural phenomenon, rapidly losing its allure. And this is a study called
- 9:21someone else did a study in England, the decline of trans and queer identity among young Americans.
- 9:27And this sampled apparently undergraduate campus surveys over 55,000 up to possibly 69,000. So,
- 9:36this is not just a sample of a couple hundred or a thousand or two apparently incoming college
- 9:41freshman. So, very fascinating, Laura. And it says that it is a trend and it seems to be going
- 9:48the other way. There seems to be a drop. And I'll let you respond and share your thoughts.
- 9:54The non-binary or questioning options have declined substantially since it peaked in 2023. And it
- 10:01looks like it dropped from a 9% to 3% among this group in one survey. So, it's interesting. Another
- 10:09drop has been roughly 10 points. So, I'll get to some takeaways in a minute, just a couple bullet
- 10:14points. But your overall thoughts on this kind of study, maybe you've seen others that either agree
- 10:19with this or conflict with it. Yeah, I've seen this as well. And it doesn't surprise me in one sense
- 10:27because this issue existed long before it became popular. There were, you can find this in ancient
- 10:36paganism. It really is ancient pagan worship. But we also see the people that have genuinely
- 10:43struggled with this. A lot of us weren't doing it because it was a trend. It wasn't cool. This was like
- 10:50out of extreme trauma and pain and self-hatred. But then there was this group that was like, oh,
- 10:57I want to fit in. I just don't like my body or for whatever reason this became kind of cool. So,
- 11:02I think there were kind of two separate groups. But there's a deeper issue. And so, what we're seeing
- 11:10is not as many kids identifying as trans, but still identifying as LGBT or as a really
- 11:19a rise of queer or making up their own identity. Or I just don't want to be male or female,
- 11:26but not necessarily going down the transgender out. Now, I hope, I don't know for certain,
- 11:31but I hope that after years of myself and many other people speaking out about the horrors of
- 11:37transition and what it does to your body and all that, I think that's at least had some effect.
- 11:44By the way, forgive me. I didn't mention your book, Transgender to Transformed. And for those
- 11:52of you that maybe are new to World View Matters and don't know Laura's story, she was nine years in
- 11:57the transitioning into Jake changed her name, had surgeries. So, I'm sorry. A lot of you guys
- 12:03going, well, what what gives Laura the expertise to speak on this issue? So, my goodness. So,
- 12:08we, I didn't say former transgender. That's why you have keen insights. So, gosh, sorry about that.
- 12:16As I don't want to assume that everybody knows. So, some of the bullet points take a ways
- 12:19after it's surged in the 2010s and 2020s early on, trans and queer identities are in decline
- 12:27among young Americans. Number two, the transgender share among university students,
- 12:32which peaked a few years ago, is down 50% and down to about 4%. And then today, a freshman,
- 12:41today's freshmen in college are less BTQ than the seniors. What does that suggest? It suggests
- 12:50that the decline will likely continue. If the seniors were maybe LGBTQ and then the freshmen
- 12:57are not or half of them are, that means that there's a drop. And this article says it's driven
- 13:02largely by peer pressure. And I say a lot of marketing on social media. They make disciples,
- 13:11I call, you know, grooming, recruiting for the LGBTQ. How would you phrase that Laura? Give us
- 13:17any more insights. Yeah, I really think it is a, it's a religion, it's a cult. And they do
- 13:25and they, and I don't think they would see it as grooming. You know, they're, they're blind to
- 13:28that. They're deceived. But I think that they're, they're recruiting and they're trying to
- 13:32help kids. This is who you really are. And, but they want, there's, you know, they always say,
- 13:39misery loves company. Well, sin loves company too. And if I'm convicted about something,
- 13:44because God has written his law in our hearts, I think people know the truth. I've talked to so
- 13:48many people who have lived as LGBT. They say, I knew this was wrong. I knew this was a sin.
- 13:54But they, if they can get others to believe it and celebrate it with them, then they are able to
- 13:59suppress the truth further. And it, it makes them feel better. So I think that's part of the reason.
- 14:04But, you know, the, the identities may change, but this is still, I think Romans 1 makes it clear
- 14:12that this is a reaction to turning away from God. There are some that claim to be gay or
- 14:18transpression or whatever, but it's a God in their own image of their own making. But turning
- 14:24away from the truth of God's word, results in thinking that is upside down or thinking that it,
- 14:31you know, desires that are unnatural. So really quick, we're going to take a brief pause
- 14:37in a couple of seconds, Jeff. Would you bring up that graph of the share of students that do not
- 14:42identify as male or female? It is dropped. Now, look at that. It started in 2016,
- 14:49peaked roughly one of them peaked in 2022. The other one peaked in 2023. And now the lowest is
- 14:56around 2%. One of them is that three. Another one is that a red or on 4%. So that's just really
- 15:02interesting. The different studies that have come out. We'll be right back with Laura Perry Smelt
- 15:07on World View Matters. Watch this. Introducing the World View Matters Conference coming to Green
- 15:13Bay, Wisconsin May 1st and 2nd, 2026. Here are some of the featured speakers. Ken Michael,
- 15:20Olivier Melnick, Tim Chafee, Mark and Amber Archer, Laura Perry Smeltz, Dr. Jake Jacobs,
- 15:29Jay Seigert, Gary Caw, Scott Shera and Elijah Abraham. That's the World View Matters Conference May
- 15:371st and 2nd, 2026, Green Bay, Wisconsin. Yes, we had to plug that especially because Laura is
- 15:44coming to Green Bay, Lord willing. So next May 1 and 2, we'll let you know the website is up so you
- 15:51can get registration information. But friends, we are in our third year of producing World View Matters
- 15:56Times fly and I know and we're amazed at how things are. But to continue to do what we do,
- 16:01speaking the truth, exposing evil, encouraging the body of Christ, waking up as many as possible,
- 16:07we need your prayers first, but also your donations, your financial support. So right now,
- 16:12this new campaign, we'd love for you to help contribute. Let's just say $200 or a monthly gift
- 16:17of 25 a month. That's just an example. You can get this nifty new stainless steel tumbler. Look at
- 16:23that. I love it. I have mine, drink my coffee out of it every day here on the set. It's just water,
- 16:29but it's still good. One side keeps speaking the truth about things that matter. The other side
- 16:33says, World View Matters. So if you are able to donate financially, go to worldviewmatters.tv.
- 16:41But number one, thank you for your prayers and sharing the podcast. That's what gets us out there.
- 16:48So Laura, let's switch gears slightly. There have been a lot, there's been a lot of trans
- 16:56violence that the media does not report on because it's not convenient to their narrative
- 17:02in their world view, which is not a Christian worldview. So Benny Johnson, and we just learned
- 17:08this recently, this is going to be eye opening to some that the Thomas Crooks, the guy that tried
- 17:14to assassinate President Trump. We now know he used they them pronouns. He added a deep interest
- 17:21in furries and was exploring gender identity. Surprise, surprise. Why? Because if you've been paying
- 17:27attention, friends, not everybody knows this. Charlie Kirk's assassin Tyler Robinson had a furry
- 17:33obsession. He lived with a gay boyfriend, someone called transgender. There are two two biological
- 17:39males, right, interrelationship, relationship. The Annunciation Catholic church shooter, I believe
- 17:45that was Minneapolis or Minnesota. He went by Robin, the Nashville Christian shooter identified
- 17:52as trans, the Lakewood church shooter identified as trans, Colorado Springs shooter, non-binary,
- 17:58Denver shooter, trans, Aberdeen shooter, trans, Iowa high school shooter, was a trans
- 18:05gender activist. Do you see a recurring theme here? Well, I'm not saying that everyone,
- 18:11but this is what happens, Laura. I think you alluded to it before we took the break there that if
- 18:15you reject God, you can be whatever you want, then you are your own God. So you're rejecting divine
- 18:22order. And that's got that's a mental health issue right there. So I know you're not surprised by
- 18:29these connecting the dots here. Share your insights on this. Are we going to see more of this?
- 18:35I think we are, even though the support for transgender seems to be decreasing declining,
- 18:41but there's still enough confused people out there that they just need someone to ramp them up
- 18:47and get them all upset to go out and commit violence. Go ahead, Laura. Yeah, I think I alluded to it
- 18:54earlier, but Romans 1 says that God has revealed himself to everyone. He's evident by the things
- 19:00that are created, but it says they glorified him not as God. Neither were thankful. So there's
- 19:05bitterness. I find a lot of times anger toward God. There's rejection of God because they don't
- 19:11like their life. They don't like who they are. For whatever reason, they're ungrateful to God.
- 19:15And it says, but became vain in their imaginations. Their foolish hearts were darkened,
- 19:21professing themselves to be wise. They became fools. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie.
- 19:26And it says they are given over to the lust of their heart. If they continue to reject God,
- 19:29they're given over to unnatural lusts, almost sexuality and other things. But if they continue
- 19:34to reject God, they're given over to a reprobate mind or to crave mind in some translations. That word
- 19:40reprobate means reject. So it's a mind that completely rejects the truth. And it says they suppress
- 19:47the truth by their unrighteousness. And I find that a lot of times in transgenderism, there is this
- 19:52desperate need to get rid of any voice of truth, because it is a daily constant battle to overcome
- 19:59the truth, to suppress the truth, to get rid of any reminder of the truth. And that's why
- 20:07this was true in my case, but I find that a lot of trans people, I'm sure not 100%,
- 20:11but a lot of trans people start being around their families less and less, whether their
- 20:17families are affirming or not, because just being around the family reminds you that in my case,
- 20:22that I was their daughter, that I was my brother's sister, that I was my nieces, I was their aunt,
- 20:28and you can't escape those things. But any voice of truth, you have to silence, because
- 20:34it's kind of like this, making a mask out of paper mache or something, or they can like
- 20:40pick off these pieces, and you're reminded of the truth, you have to keep up this facade.
- 20:46Yeah, because like you said, people know we all have a conscience, people know
- 20:51deep down, you've got to suppress that, suppress the truth, seared consciences, the Bible talks about.
- 20:58Laura, your mom never gave up on you. Your mom was one that prayed and prayed and prayed,
- 21:03and now you have a wonderful relationship with her, but that must have been rocky for a while
- 21:08when you were trying to go down that road, right? Yeah, it was, and both of my parents, I talk about
- 21:15my mom a lot, because there was such a huge change, you know, when she was younger, and she's
- 21:21shared with me her testimony before, I mean, we've spoken together before. She had a very legalistic
- 21:28view of Christianity, and she said she felt that she was on this performance treadmill for God,
- 21:33never being good enough, never doing enough, and so she was so radically changed during that time,
- 21:38but one thing, not only was she praying, but she got other people praying with her.
- 21:43There's so much shame in the church, and I find that so many Christians who are dealing with
- 21:47this with their children don't want to tell anybody, and of course we don't want a gossip.
- 21:51My parents were not shaming me or anything like that, but they just started telling people in their
- 21:56Bible study, people that they trusted, and they had a group that was praying for me.
- 22:02When I came home, I had an army of people praying for me, and not only was it good for me,
- 22:08because a lot of people in the church ended up praying, when I came home, everybody was so excited
- 22:15to see me, people recognized me, and then started including me in things, but it changed the church,
- 22:22because when I came home, God used it as a catalyst to bring revival, and revival had the church,
- 22:29and it wasn't because of me, but because they had prayed for years, and they saw this incredible
- 22:35miracle of this unlikely girl that was anti-Christian, anti-God that wanted nothing to do with the
- 22:40church that was living a complete lie, and to see the radical transformation in me brought revival
- 22:46to the church. Wow, that's amazing, great story. So friends, God never gives up on anybody,
- 22:53so we shouldn't either, as much as things might look really discouraging and really hard on the
- 22:59outside, he's the one that changes hearts. We just have to be obedient and keep on loving, not
- 23:05approving, but loving. Would you care to speak to the difference between approval and love, Laura?
- 23:12Yeah, I think Jesus was the perfect example of that, he is not only a loving person, he is the
- 23:19very source of love himself, and he is not just a truthful person, he's that I'm the way the truth
- 23:25in the life, he is the source of both of those things, and if he can't be divided, then we can't divide
- 23:30love and truth. It doesn't mean that we need to win an argument, but the Lord uses our words.
- 23:41In fact, I think our words are far more powerful that a lot of Christians think that if I'm just
- 23:46kind enough, then people will see Jesus, but the world can act really kind. I think there's a
- 23:52false spirit of love where people love bombing people and making them feel really good about
- 23:57themselves, but that's flattery, that's not love, and the Bible actually warns against flattery.
- 24:02We need to have both love and truth, but to recognize that it may not always be immediately
- 24:07received as truth, Jesus was the source of love himself, and they tried to throw him off a
- 24:12cliff, they tried to stone him, and ultimately they nailed him to a cross. He promised that we would
- 24:18be hated, that we would be, all kinds of persecution would come, but we have to be willing,
- 24:25the Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and I've heard so many stories
- 24:30of things that were said to someone that they initially rejected that later had a big impact on
- 24:36them, and we've got to be willing to speak the truth in kindness and in love, and love people
- 24:43with action, but we have to speak the truth, and I think the end of it works over time to shut
- 24:48the mouth of Christians. He does not want us talking, and that's why real quick was back to
- 24:53Charlie Kirk, so I love to study names. I think names are so powerful. In fact, I just made a video
- 24:59about names and pronouns. You can go to my YouTube channel at Eden's Redemption, if you want to check
- 25:04that out, but Charlie means free man, and Kirk means church. The free man in the church is the one
- 25:11that everybody said, oh, he's harsh, he's hateful, but if you watch his videos, he's not at all.
- 25:16The enemy was lying about him, but he is the one that, you know, to be martyred, of course,
- 25:23it's a tragedy in our world, but it's actually an honor in a way from the Lord to have that privilege,
- 25:29but I also see that his message has spread far and wide, and what was he willing to do? He was
- 25:35not only willing to speak the truth, he was willing to be hated, he was willing to be mocked,
- 25:41he was willing to be scorned, and he was willing to take all of that hate and all of that anger
- 25:48in order to speak the truth, and that's what we need. So really quick, one of the reason young
- 25:54people have been conditioned to not like America, not like themselves, be unhappy with themselves,
- 26:00or be confused about who they are, how God made them, because the enemy is sowing that seat of
- 26:05confusion. God is, Satan is the author of confusion. God is not a God of confusion, but of peace,
- 26:14and the transgender and queer movement at its core rebels against God's good design,
- 26:20promoting a lie that distorts the beauty of his creation, and to close, I'll get Laura's thoughts
- 26:25with it, we must stand as beacons of truth, proclaiming that God's design is perfect. God's
- 26:31design for male and female. It's not a male and female, not a fashion to be discarded or
- 26:35popular one day, not the next. It is unchangeable. It's a reality of human existence. One minute
- 26:41Laura to just share your final thoughts, please. Yeah, we have to help people understand why the world
- 26:49is broken in the first place, because if they don't get into transgenderism, they will get into
- 26:53drugs, alcohol, whatever other identity to try to solve the brokenness. I've heard hundreds of
- 26:58testimonies. Everybody is looking for the fix. My life is ruined because of this, and that's
- 27:05really the heart behind Eden's redemption that the world is broken, but Jesus is the solution.
- 27:11And ultimately, we will see a full redemption of creation one day when there's a new heaven and
- 27:14a new earth, and the curse of sin will be removed for those who trust in Christ. Amen.
- 27:19Laura Perry, small friends, pray for her health, and the website edensredemption.org,
- 27:26I think you can also connect with her on social media. Sister, thank you for all you do, and thanks
- 27:31for your time today. Lord willing, we'll do it again soon. And thank you. You're most welcome.
- 27:36Friends, God bless you, and as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
