- 0:00Talking about autism and depression and specifically some
- 0:03secret techniques to help improve your mental health.
- 0:06So it takes you from being super depressed and always feeling
- 0:09like you're never going out with that to being very very in
- 0:12control of it and potentially feeling better coming up.
- 0:23Hey guys, welcome back to the ask me world.
- 0:25My name is Dan and I have autism ADHD OCD and dyslexia.
- 0:30Okay, guys, I'm talking about specific strategies.
- 0:32I've used to get myself out of depressive state that I don't
- 0:35think I've seen anybody used before some of them in
- 0:37particularly. I've never ever heard anyone
- 0:39use, but I know that they're effective because I've used
- 0:41them. Okay guys bottom and depression.
- 0:43So a lot of people who are on the autism spectrum do come
- 0:46across depression quite often. It's actually quite common to
- 0:49have a depression diagnosis. Come on.
- 0:52League with autism. I have surely experience
- 0:54depression a few times. It's not good recently.
- 0:57I went through a really bad depressive state for about two
- 0:59or three weeks. It was horrendous.
- 1:01One of the worst ones. I've had actually in a long time
- 1:04and so because of that it may be compelled to want to do this
- 1:06video. So I want to talk about the
- 1:08first thing that I am I did to kind of overcome this because
- 1:13what I want to try to Rob myself out of it, I've tried medication
- 1:15for medication wasn't as effective for me because it just
- 1:18made me feel a bit worse. So I wanted to do something on
- 1:20my own quite independent like If I do this, you know pool so I
- 1:23did this thing on my own and these are my techniques and they
- 1:27actually do work. So the first one I want to talk
- 1:29about is taking time in something new and it sounds
- 1:32bizarre but a lot of people tell you to like, oh, you need to
- 1:35relax take a step back. Now if you're left to your own
- 1:38devices and you're feeling depressed.
- 1:40It's you're sitting there along with thought and then the
- 1:42thought of going to manifest and they're going to build up on
- 1:44each other and then you're going to the defaulting to talk to
- 1:46each other never going to come this evil ball inside your head.
- 1:49That's not going to work. So taking time for yourself.
- 1:51Just sitting there. It's going to make it worse in
- 1:53my experience. So this is what I think to do
- 1:56take time. But in something new so forget
- 2:00everything, you know, like for me.
- 2:02Okay, let's put it in perspective.
- 2:04I didn't know anything about the app Tick Tock.
- 2:06Okay, and I love growing social media businesses.
- 2:09And I love growing social media. And so one of the things I
- 2:11wanted to do was was Tick-Tock eventually, so I was feeling
- 2:16super depressed. I was like, okay, why don't I
- 2:18focus in on Tick-Tock and by doing that focusing on on Purim
- 2:22videos on Tick Tock and reaching else we won't take talk and just
- 2:25basically play around with the app and see where I could grow
- 2:28it and see how it works that's going to take me away from the
- 2:30things that we're making me feel depressed and giving me a new
- 2:32light on focus and by doing that it rocked me out of a a
- 2:36one-track mind of oh my goodness, you know feeling sorry
- 2:39for myself and things getting worse and by doing that the
- 2:43Focus Shift it was amazing. I actually I can't recommend it
- 2:46enough. It's very very very effective.
- 2:48So taking time and something new is going to transfer your
- 2:52Something which is going to be positive because something new
- 2:54is always positive because you're in control of that.
- 2:58It's not like you going to pick something new.
- 2:59It's going to be highly destructive.
- 3:00You want to pick something new that's going to be very very
- 3:01positive. And this could be anything could
- 3:03be like a hobby. It could be a new TV show that
- 3:06you want to get into it could be absolutely anything but just
- 3:09bear that in mind something new that you've never done before
- 3:11but you're very interested in. Okay.
- 3:13So the next one is focusing on yourself self development and
- 3:17happiness. What does this mean?
- 3:19So a lot of the time depression comes from the fact that we have
- 3:22an exterior sources that are putting pressure and negative
- 3:25pressure input into our systems. So you are a system and
- 3:28everything else is exterior and what I mean by that is not your
- 3:32like life not like the things that make you happy like, you
- 3:34know, maybe your loved ones or your children or your parents or
- 3:38your friends or whoever it is not those people the things
- 3:40outside of like work or negative impact in your profession
- 3:45somewhere or negative impact in Academia or like a friend maybe
- 3:49passing away. All things are exterior to that.
- 3:52Kind of like Circle Unit of Happiness.
- 3:54That's surrounds what you're doing.
- 3:56So taking time for yourself is like this.
- 3:58It's a gratitude list and I did this very very simply I decided
- 4:02that first thing in the morning soon as I woke up.
- 4:04I would write a gratitude list out the things that I'm actually
- 4:07thankful for because I had a hundred million things that
- 4:10we're making me depressed and I was not thankful for but I
- 4:12really chose the time to sit down and think about it and
- 4:15something magical happened when I sat down and thought to myself
- 4:17what am I grateful for and the things that like I'm grateful
- 4:20for that the ability to to experience life and things like
- 4:23that and I'm grateful for my son and I'm grateful for my my job
- 4:25and I'm grateful for my house and I've all grateful for all
- 4:28those things when I started putting down the things I'm
- 4:30grateful for the actually ingested happiness into my life
- 4:34and that happiness to gratitude gave me some peace arrest bite
- 4:38if you if you will and that respite kind of gave me this
- 4:43almost a chance to breathe and that chance to breathe then set
- 4:46me on a nicer path. I was actually planning to do
- 4:48that for a whole week doing everyday waking up and doing
- 4:50your gratitude list, but The first one was so overpowering
- 4:53that I didn't need to do the others.
- 4:55It did its job instantly. So if you are like me and you
- 4:58feeling like that way why not try wake up and create a
- 5:01gratitude list for the things that you are focusing on within
- 5:05you like the things that making you happy that the idea of just
- 5:08breathing Sunshine people, you love experiences getting close
- 5:11to people those things those little things you should always
- 5:14be grateful for make a list because that list then becomes
- 5:16empowering because you see it and that is so much impact.
- 5:20Okay the next thing here Is something that I'm very strong
- 5:23on and I actually like this a lot when I'm depressed or from
- 5:27it in a depressive State. I like this something I'm really
- 5:29big on is eating correctly eating the right Foods drinking
- 5:33the right things hydration. A lot of people do this when
- 5:38they become depressed. They'll just either knowing
- 5:41anything at all and become really really thin and
- 5:43malnourished or they'll just eat the wrong things and that might
- 5:46harm your body like, you know, like fast food and junk food and
- 5:49like candies and sweet and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:51So what you want to do actually is focusing on eating good
- 5:56foods. There are happy foods are good,
- 5:57like fresh fruit and vegetables, you know, things like fresh
- 6:01fruit vegetables or Whole Foods those things even cooking a meal
- 6:04from scratch. At those things are going to
- 6:06benefit your body and whatever benefits your body benefits in
- 6:08mind, whatever benefits the mind of benefits the soil and that is
- 6:11a very clear path to healing and feeling better quickly.
- 6:15I didn't realize the importance of this and I stopped I went off
- 6:18like eating fresh food and stuff.
- 6:19And when I was going through my last oppressive State I was
- 6:21like, oh my goodness when we do see in like pizza and like
- 6:24crisps and stuff. And so then I was already a
- 6:26vegetarian but then I decided to adopt a vegan lifestyle which
- 6:29cut out like cheese and stuff. So it may be more restricted to
- 6:32junk Foods because you know cheese and milk there in a lot
- 6:34of I can. Junk food that are not as good
- 6:37for you and by doing that again, it helped clear my body and mind
- 6:41to then get me back in track and it kind of almost realign me
- 6:44with the with certain The Knowing of South and I wasn't so
- 6:47depressed from that. It is profoundly amazing.
- 6:49I found super high benefit from just changing my day only ever
- 6:52so slightly but the impact was profound.
- 6:55So if you're feeling like me and that situation or you know that
- 6:57you're eating bad food. Why not do a challenge yourself
- 7:00saying? Okay.
- 7:00Well, I'm not going to eat any meat or I'm not going to eat any
- 7:03like, you know, potato chips or or fries or whatever and see how
- 7:09how you can control that input of negative Foods on your body.
- 7:14Okay. The next one is it is is
- 7:16something that I want to break down.
- 7:17There's this there's this myth that like you have to exercise
- 7:20if you're depressed go out and exercise because it's going to
- 7:22rescind off and put oxygen around your body and make you
- 7:24feel awesome. Okay, that is true.
- 7:27But let me ask this question when you're feeling depressed
- 7:29like you lowest point in your entire life.
- 7:31Do you really feel like getting your Gym gear on and hitting
- 7:33those weights? I I think so.
- 7:36So what you need to do is something very simple and I've
- 7:39done this. I've been in both situations.
- 7:40I've tried to force himself to go to the gym and it can even
- 7:42pick my legs up off the floor. That's how depressed I was but
- 7:45then I tried something different.
- 7:47I just went out for a walk and it was five minutes was no
- 7:50pressure just went out for a five minute walk and an
- 7:52increased it that they have to run for a 10-minute walk in the
- 7:54fifteen minute walk the 20 minute walk in an hour walk
- 7:56exercise does help fresh air is amazing because it's new it's
- 8:01different. It's experiencing life in real
- 8:03time. It's not sitting in four walls
- 8:04watching a TV screen which can be also therapeutic but at the
- 8:07end of the day you want something that's tangibly
- 8:10changing or for your life and walking did that for me?
- 8:13And I loved it. You know, I found so much
- 8:16healing from just going out for a walk and I do live by the Sea
- 8:18so I'm very blessed but just going out for a walk and seeing
- 8:21different people do different things and seeing like just life
- 8:24going on helps you realize where you are and It Centers you in
- 8:28reality. Okay, my last tip here my last
- 8:31strategy technique here is a very simple one it's adopted
- 8:35from ISM excuse in mindfulness, but it's a very simple
- 8:38technique. This is the most basic revision
- 8:40of in this is all you need. It's very very good and it's
- 8:43profoundly impactful when you use it correctly, but you want
- 8:46to do is remove negative thoughts with positive ideas.
- 8:51Okay. So if you're feeling really
- 8:53negative and feeling like oh, you know, I you know this
- 8:56happening and that's happening and you know that spiral of like
- 8:59depressive State and depressive thought is you're having those
- 9:02thoughts and when they hit think about this And it's training its
- 9:06training is not going to go instantly.
- 9:07Did you just need to keep doing this?
- 9:09Okay and try it and about after about 5 to 10 times.
- 9:11It'll be amazing. When you feeling negative
- 9:14thoughts negative thoughts instantly hit your brain think
- 9:17of a positive idea, which means like think about something.
- 9:21How could you raise money for charity?
- 9:22How could you help somebody in need?
- 9:24How could you do something that selfless?
- 9:25How could you raise more money for the food bank?
- 9:27How could you help people who are homeless those things those
- 9:30thoughts those positive plans are changing the world will
- 9:34align your mind with Saying so greater than the negative rot.
- 9:38That is eating your mind that you don't need and it should
- 9:42never be there but it's just cause by like existential kind
- 9:45of realities and third parties that you just want to take
- 9:48control back and taking control back is by ingesting in putting
- 9:52positive ideas into your life. That in itself is so amazing.
- 9:58It's so humbling and you're going to feel so much better
- 10:01afterwards. I swear if you just did that you
- 10:04just for a week. You'd feel so much so much
- 10:06better, and I love it. You know, like I think that
- 10:09these tips can help people in such a great way.
- 10:12And if you agree, if you agree that these tips can help people.
