Rhode Island’s Judicial Nominating Commission just voted to advance former Speaker Joe Shekarchi to the state Supreme Court — a move that’s sparking controversy after four of the nine commissioners, including chair Zachary Mandell and auto shop owner Thomas Casale, both of whom donated over $10,000 to Shekarchi’s campaigns, backed his nomination.
