Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, my name is Brennan Small and I'm with the
- 0:02Speaker 1: band's Death Clock and the TV show Metal Aclipse and
- 0:05Speaker 1: we're coming to Australia and we're coming for.
- 0:08Speaker 2: You, benast It brother. Thanks to joining us today.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Brendon, absolutely so nice to be here.
- 0:14Speaker 3: So, as you say, death Pop make their way to
- 0:16Speaker 3: Australia for the first time ever in not many sleeps
- 0:20Speaker 3: bro starting in Perth on April the second, before hitting Melbourne, Brisbane,
- 0:23Speaker 3: Sydney and Adelaide and returning to finish up in Melbourne
- 0:27Speaker 3: again on April the ninth. So the first and most
- 0:29Speaker 3: pressing question is why the hell have you neglected us
- 0:32Speaker 3: for so long.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's a good question, it's a good question. I've got
- 0:35Speaker 1: a good answer though.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Well, this is this is a crazy project. This is
- 0:41Speaker 1: a crazy project that has lasted a long time, that
- 0:43Speaker 1: has had you know, it's been in production, it's been
- 0:46Speaker 1: out of production. And then about two years ago we
- 0:48Speaker 1: put out a movie and a record and a film
- 0:52Speaker 1: score of the of the movie as well. But in
- 0:56Speaker 1: that time, and this is domestic projects, you know, this
- 1:01Speaker 1: is a domestic American project, and so previously no one
- 1:06Speaker 1: was willing to risk going to Europe, going to Australia,
- 1:10Speaker 1: going anywhere outside of the US to perform. This is
- 1:13Speaker 1: the first time we've ever done it, because now I'm
- 1:16Speaker 1: in charge of music, so I wanted to make sure
- 1:21Speaker 1: and take these risks and to go to I had
- 1:25Speaker 1: an inkling that Australia had a fan base there and
- 1:31Speaker 1: I and fortunately, you know, the Cigrets are going well,
- 1:36Speaker 1: we're adding shows, we've kind of graduated to bigger venues,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and we're really excited. I knew that there was a
- 1:43Speaker 1: fan base here because years ago I came and did
- 1:45Speaker 1: some promotion for the DVDs of the show and so
- 1:49Speaker 1: so yeah, it took a while, but we're doing a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot more performing than we had done ever before with
- 1:55Speaker 1: this project because again, it started as a television show
- 1:58Speaker 1: and it mutated into a musical project that would be
- 2:01Speaker 1: its own kind of thing. And that's that's what's exciting
- 2:03Speaker 1: about this. It's got the best of everything inside of
- 2:06Speaker 1: one show that you'll see that is built to dazzle
- 2:10Speaker 1: you and built to entertain you within an inch of
- 2:13Speaker 1: your life. We want to spit you out onto the sidewalk,
- 2:16Speaker 1: exhausted with a big smile on your face.
- 2:19Speaker 2: That's shit. Sounds good to me. Bright It's it's gotta
- 2:22Speaker 2: be a good feeling for you.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Though.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'd like to say this is your first time I here.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You've already had to add more shows, You've had to
- 2:28Speaker 3: upgrade venues like just being able to go to the
- 2:31Speaker 3: other side of the world and know that the people
- 2:34Speaker 3: want you like it'd have to be a great feeling.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It is. It is a really nice feeling to be wanted.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I love Australia. The last time I went there, I
- 2:42Speaker 1: really got to get to I got to know, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 1: Sidney a little bit, Melbourne a little bit. I didn't
- 2:48Speaker 1: get to know Perth at all. I got to visit
- 2:50Speaker 1: through Brisbane. But I love traveling the world. I go
- 2:56Speaker 1: to Europe often, I go to Italy. I just went
- 2:59Speaker 1: to Austria to go and explore and while I'm writing
- 3:02Speaker 1: and working on projects, so so I really like I
- 3:05Speaker 1: love I love jumping the continent and going around, but
- 3:09Speaker 1: doing it with a guitar in my hands even more fun.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And our show is a really exciting show. I'd like
- 3:14Speaker 1: to tell you about a little bit because it's not
- 3:16Speaker 1: like any other heavy metal show. We play to picture,
- 3:20Speaker 1: meaning we bring in a giant movie theater size screen
- 3:23Speaker 1: into your venue, and every down meat coincides with the
- 3:26Speaker 1: cut because we're honoring the ouvera of the entire piece
- 3:30Speaker 1: of metal bucklets. So so we play, we play. So
- 3:33Speaker 1: I've got Geen Huggland on drums, legendary metal drummer who
- 3:37Speaker 1: is just the perfect guy for this gig because he
- 3:40Speaker 1: is driving the entire piece and we and it's a
- 3:45Speaker 1: complicated show for us to do as musicians. We don't
- 3:48Speaker 1: look anything like the animated band, and we're not meant to,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but as it turns out, we sound exactly like them. Son,
- 3:57Speaker 1: So what you'll see on stage or a bunch of shadows,
- 3:59Speaker 1: but you're going to be attracted to the big star
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the show, which is the animated piece that we
- 4:03Speaker 1: show you.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Y No, So let's take of anyone out there who
- 4:08Speaker 3: may not have been bludgeon yet into the world of
- 4:10Speaker 3: death clock mate, Like I was going to try and
- 4:12Speaker 3: fill in the blanks a little, but then I realized
- 4:14Speaker 3: it'd be much better coming from you. So how would
- 4:16Speaker 3: you describe your whole universe? I guess today's that are
- 4:20Speaker 3: initiated well.
- 4:22Speaker 1: The TV show. So there are a couple different tiers.
- 4:24Speaker 1: There's the TV Show. There's the records, and then there's
- 4:26Speaker 1: what we're bringing to you, the live show, which is
- 4:28Speaker 1: kind of the best of everything. The TV show is
- 4:30Speaker 1: an animated comedy about the biggest entertainment act on the planet,
- 4:34Speaker 1: which happens to be an extreme metal band. But the
- 4:36Speaker 1: show's really about celebrityism. It's about it's about egos, it's
- 4:40Speaker 1: about a fucked up family, and it's about it's about
- 4:46Speaker 1: their idiotic decisions destroying the planet. It's about all that stuff,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but it's meant to be a comedy. And inside of
- 4:53Speaker 1: this comedy, the task for.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Me as the show runner of the show writer is
- 4:58Speaker 4: to bring original music to each episode in addition to
- 5:01Speaker 4: characters and jokes, and so each episode has original music.
- 5:05Speaker 1: That was the challenge I had to put upon myself.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And then each season we would put out a new
- 5:10Speaker 1: record and then we'd go on tour, so so each
- 5:13Speaker 1: thing kind of started building this project in lots of
- 5:15Speaker 1: different ways. It's a multimedia kind of a project. So
- 5:18Speaker 1: the TV show itself the music, and through the music,
- 5:22Speaker 1: we kind of got to build out the lore of
- 5:25Speaker 1: the TV show. We got to kind of it's world building.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Is what it is, is what the music is. It's
- 5:33Speaker 1: an extra layer of character, of lore, of subterranean weirdness
- 5:38Speaker 1: that we give you. And each one of these things
- 5:41Speaker 1: has functioned nicely. We've got great ratings with the TV show,
- 5:43Speaker 1: the record sold really well, and the tourist did really well.
- 5:46Speaker 1: We just did a big you know, over the last
- 5:48Speaker 1: year and a half, we toured with Baby Metal here
- 5:50Speaker 1: in the US tour that was ridiculously fun. Their show
- 5:55Speaker 1: is so much fun, so our show is tons of fun.
- 5:58Speaker 1: So the idea is, how do we bring fun into
- 6:01Speaker 1: this world and darkness and evil and you know, and
- 6:04Speaker 1: again fire, nudity, jokes, all the all the stuff that
- 6:09Speaker 1: makes life worth living and guitars. Of course.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I don't know, there's a bit of a misconception out there,
- 6:16Speaker 3: especially amongst haefully don't like metal. I guess that you
- 6:20Speaker 3: have to love metal to get into the show. But
- 6:22Speaker 3: the metal is a big part of it, but there's
- 6:25Speaker 3: so much more gon on in there.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's like like the Simpsons with guitars.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of. I mean, that's the idea is that,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know, I don't know how you discovered heavy metal.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Maybe it was like how I did. I would not
- 6:37Speaker 1: have gotten this deep into this world. Had I not
- 6:40Speaker 1: met a friend of mine when I was fourteen years old,
- 6:43Speaker 1: a friend that lived up the street, who wore, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: a denim jacket with patches all over it, and he
- 6:49Speaker 1: said he could play guitar, and I was like, I'm
- 6:51Speaker 1: interested in guitar, but it's impossible to play after school.
- 6:54Speaker 1: One day he invites me over to his house and
- 6:56Speaker 1: he shows me that not only can he play me guitar,
- 6:59Speaker 1: he can play guitar, he can play it kind of well.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And he taught me how to play a couple of courts,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and on that day I had learned to play some
- 7:05Speaker 1: Black Sabbath and my life changed. Not only that he
- 7:08Speaker 1: showed me who Slayer was, who Metallica was, who Merciful
- 7:11Speaker 1: Fate was, who you know. We sat there and listened
- 7:15Speaker 1: to all of King Diamonds them and read along with
- 7:17Speaker 1: all the lyrics and everything, and went, oh my god,
- 7:20Speaker 1: they're telling story with music and all this stuff. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: went into the dark abyss of heavy metal and I
- 7:27Speaker 1: haven't come back since. But for my brain. When I
- 7:29Speaker 1: was fourteen years old, that was the most exciting place
- 7:31Speaker 1: I could be, and it still is just as exciting.
- 7:34Speaker 1: My relationship with music. My relationship with guitar is still
- 7:37Speaker 1: as strong now as it was back then. But I
- 7:39Speaker 1: wouldn't have known any of that stuff if my friend
- 7:42Speaker 1: hadn't taken me over to his house and showed me
- 7:45Speaker 1: his record collection and played music for me. So I
- 7:48Speaker 1: knew that we had this responsibility to come into everyone's
- 7:51Speaker 1: living rooms on the weekends and play them something. And
- 7:54Speaker 1: would that ignite an interest in heavy metal for some people,
- 7:57Speaker 1: because I know, had I not gone out of the
- 7:59Speaker 1: way way to find it, I don't know that I'd
- 8:02Speaker 1: have the same relationship with it. So the coolest compliment
- 8:06Speaker 1: we've gotten, you know, especially over the past few years
- 8:09Speaker 1: now that our audience has grown up, is to see
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know, and we have so much of a younger
- 8:13Speaker 1: audience now because they discovered it later times, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: But to see people who said, I am now interested
- 8:20Speaker 1: in guitar when I wasn't before. I'm now interested in
- 8:23Speaker 1: having metal where I wasn't before I took this stuff
- 8:26Speaker 1: that you showed me. I looked at the people who
- 8:27Speaker 1: were doing voices on the show and discovered their music
- 8:30Speaker 1: from you know, Arch Enemy who enslaved to you know,
- 8:33Speaker 1: to King Diamond, to you know, exodus to to to
- 8:38Speaker 1: whoever we guests put in the guest slots on the show,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and so so hope. So the nicest part is to
- 8:45Speaker 1: hear that we did kind of inspire some people to
- 8:48Speaker 1: kick the door open and let the metal take them.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Hey Ben, that's as Qui right, magic, isn't it. I'm
- 8:57Speaker 3: not sure if you got to be out to answer
- 8:58Speaker 3: this one, honestly, you might get yourself in trouble. But
- 9:01Speaker 3: you're just talking about to get the guests pads that
- 9:03Speaker 3: you've had on the shy, Like, Yeah, are there ever
- 9:06Speaker 3: any like that you might have approached earlier on that Toddy, No,
- 9:09Speaker 3: we're not going to do it because we've got no
- 9:10Speaker 3: idea who you are that have come back and wanted
- 9:13Speaker 3: to shot and you're just gone.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No. First of all, like there are a lot of
- 9:21Speaker 1: people that we've spoken to who never got to get
- 9:23Speaker 1: on the shows just because normally what happened is we
- 9:25Speaker 1: were our production was here in Los Angeles in California,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and when people were torn through here, we'd ask them
- 9:32Speaker 1: if they could find some time to come in, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: sometimes the schedules didn't work, so we'd want people and
- 9:37Speaker 1: we couldn't get them or whatever. I know. I was
- 9:40Speaker 1: talking to Dave Mustang for a long time and he
- 9:42Speaker 1: was really interested, and it's just the schedules didn't work.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And then there are people who you know, uh, you know.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't fault anyone for not wanting to participate because
- 9:54Speaker 1: the idea here was, I know how heavy metal kids are.
- 9:58Speaker 1: It's like me when I was fourteen, and so I
- 10:00Speaker 1: learned who Metallic who. I was like, I'm this is
- 10:02Speaker 1: my band. This isn't your band. This is my band.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You get protective of it, you know, And and I
- 10:09Speaker 1: wanted to make sure that the world of heavy metal
- 10:12Speaker 1: was in on this joke. So you know, in our
- 10:14Speaker 1: first episode we put Metallica on, and then later on
- 10:18Speaker 1: Cannibal Corpse, and then later on King Diamond, and then
- 10:21Speaker 1: later on you know, it's just the list keeps on
- 10:24Speaker 1: building and building, and I wanted everyone to have an
- 10:26Speaker 1: opportunity to be funny on terms that they thought were
- 10:31Speaker 1: you know, interesting, and not everybody wants to do that
- 10:34Speaker 1: all the time, and I don't understand if they wouldn't,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so I would never I would never chastise them afterwards,
- 10:39Speaker 1: because I've been offered roles of things that I'm like,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm comfortable, you know, doing that
- 10:45Speaker 1: or doing this or whatever. It's all based on each
- 10:47Speaker 1: individual person. Everyone is an artist after all, and they
- 10:51Speaker 1: get to choose what their path is. But oftentimes the
- 10:54Speaker 1: people that we chose to be a part of this
- 10:56Speaker 1: show would say yes. So it worked out more to
- 10:59Speaker 1: our advantage than ever our disadvantage.
- 11:01Speaker 3: As very diplomatic answer, mate, I applaud you for that.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Very well done.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I feel that way too. Yeah, And truthfully, there wasn't
- 11:09Speaker 1: someone who said, fuck you, I'm not doing this. They
- 11:12Speaker 1: all did it, and if they didn't, you know, there
- 11:16Speaker 1: was usually a scheduling issue.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Very nice, Now, yourself and Tobby created a series premiere
- 11:23Speaker 3: on August in two thousand and six. Mates, so hele
- 11:26Speaker 3: long before that had you had the idea, like hell,
- 11:28Speaker 3: I'm gould have been jes stating before it actually became reality.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Not long really, I mean it was really that show
- 11:36Speaker 1: was It was the perfect time with that network, with
- 11:39Speaker 1: Adult Swim, to fast track a show like this. It
- 11:43Speaker 1: was really lucky because that network was expanding their their
- 11:49Speaker 1: whole kind of landscape of shows. They were interested in
- 11:51Speaker 1: building more shows than they needed, and I knew that
- 11:54Speaker 1: there was like a magic number of shows that they
- 11:56Speaker 1: would do, and I thought, if I can get this show,
- 11:58Speaker 1: if I can do twenty episodes this show, I think
- 12:00Speaker 1: we're going to have something that will they'll have a future,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and it's a It was a huge undertaking and it
- 12:09Speaker 1: only started in two thousand and five. I think the
- 12:11Speaker 1: show was pitched and purchased in two thousand and five personally,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and we and we developed it until it's air date,
- 12:20Speaker 1: So two thousand or I didn't have the idea two
- 12:23Speaker 1: thousand and five had the idea sold, the idea, started
- 12:25Speaker 1: writing music, started writing, figuring out the characters, got the
- 12:28Speaker 1: animation comedy together, and started realizing how exactly how much
- 12:33Speaker 1: work we had to do, and we definitely had a lot.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It definitely was an exhausting but exciting project. So but
- 12:41Speaker 1: before I thought, you know, I worked in comedy and
- 12:44Speaker 1: I was a music school student, and I would see
- 12:46Speaker 1: comedians go on stage and bring their guitar do song
- 12:48Speaker 1: parages or something, and I thought, that's really cool. I'd
- 12:52Speaker 1: like to do something along those lines, but I want
- 12:54Speaker 1: to do it in a way more complicated way, And
- 12:57Speaker 1: that's where it all. So I knew that I I
- 13:00Speaker 1: wanted to do something that would be they would that
- 13:03Speaker 1: would mean a great deal of heavy lifting musically, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: and a lot of just sitting over hunched over a
- 13:08Speaker 1: guitar and recording and doing all that stuff. I knew
- 13:11Speaker 1: that that would be the coolest way for me to
- 13:13Speaker 1: do it. It would be way more work, be way more tricky,
- 13:15Speaker 1: but I was up for that challenge. So so so
- 13:19Speaker 1: I knew I wanted to do that for a long time.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And then metal oc clups happened. I thought, this is
- 13:22Speaker 1: where I'm going to pour it all into How interesting
- 13:24Speaker 1: can I make this? Can I make people come back
- 13:26Speaker 1: next week? Because that's what it's like. It's like, you know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: you're dating a bunch of strange people at the same time,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and how can you get to stay interested in you?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Sure?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Weak?
- 13:37Speaker 3: Sure?
- 13:38Speaker 2: So from from the start, did you have did you
- 13:40Speaker 2: have the bigger picture? Back day?
- 13:42Speaker 3: I liked it was going to go from a series
- 13:44Speaker 3: animated to the band to touring or.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Did that sort of all just fall into pace along
- 13:49Speaker 2: the way?
- 13:50Speaker 1: You know it was? It was still it was like
- 13:52Speaker 1: in two thousand and five, this conversation happened, and it
- 13:54Speaker 1: was just as fast as this, Like to make a
- 13:57Speaker 1: show with original music each episode right at the end
- 13:59Speaker 1: of the season. Can I take those pieces of music
- 14:02Speaker 1: and turn them into full songs, full length songs? Okay?
- 14:05Speaker 1: If I can do that, how could I take this
- 14:08Speaker 1: on tour? You know? So that was the logic, and
- 14:10Speaker 1: I thought, Okay, how did the gorillas do it? Okay,
- 14:13Speaker 1: let's take a look at those videos. Okay, all right,
- 14:15Speaker 1: what do they do that?
- 14:16Speaker 4: I like?
- 14:16Speaker 1: What would I change? Okay, good, Let's keep on changing this.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And so in about a year afterwards, in two thousand
- 14:22Speaker 1: and seven, that's when we first started touring, and that's
- 14:27Speaker 1: when we first started trying to get the show up
- 14:29Speaker 1: and running. And so from that time, from two thousand
- 14:31Speaker 1: and seven until now, we've been fine tuning this project,
- 14:34Speaker 1: adding to it, subtracting to it, swapping out songs, changing
- 14:38Speaker 1: the animation, and basically fine tuning the entire thing so
- 14:41Speaker 1: that so that we give the absolute best super type
- 14:46Speaker 1: version that we can possibly give you. That's my dog Hello,
- 14:50Speaker 1: h like buppy.
- 14:53Speaker 3: So because of the fact that I guess, essentially, into
- 14:57Speaker 3: a lot of people, you're a catch character.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You're not even a real person, I guess.
- 15:04Speaker 1: It.
- 15:04Speaker 3: You never found it difficult to be taken seriously as
- 15:07Speaker 3: the band side of it.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Uh, that's a good question. I don't know that I
- 15:14Speaker 1: am taken seriously, and I don't know that I The
- 15:19Speaker 1: greatest thing about this project is that it has been
- 15:22Speaker 1: an open landscape where I get to do whatever I
- 15:25Speaker 1: want and no one said don't do this. If they did,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I didn't listen to them. And so whatever music I
- 15:32Speaker 1: think is interesting or part of this project, there's no
- 15:35Speaker 1: buffer between me and the audience. I end up if
- 15:37Speaker 1: I find it interesting enough to be listened to, I'll
- 15:39Speaker 1: throw it on an album, or I'll put it in
- 15:41Speaker 1: the show or something, and that's all I really need.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I know that personally as a musician, as a guitar player,
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm always trying to get better than I am. This
- 15:50Speaker 1: is a tricky show to land. It really is. It's
- 15:53Speaker 1: it's I'm part of the reason I'm still interested in
- 15:56Speaker 1: doing this as much as I am is because it's
- 15:57Speaker 1: such a good challenge, because it's wise. I did not.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I did not make it easy for myself from my
- 16:05Speaker 1: skill set. Like I'm always I'm still taking by the way,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I still take guitar lessons I had, I had, Oh
- 16:12Speaker 1: my God, I'm so glad I took this lesson Jason Richardson,
- 16:15Speaker 1: who's a super shredder guitar freak, freak of nature player
- 16:20Speaker 1: who was on our baby Metal tour. He was opening
- 16:23Speaker 1: the whole show. He came over and just corrected a
- 16:25Speaker 1: couple of things in my posture and my playing oh
- 16:28Speaker 1: so much better. Little tiny things. But yeah, so I'm
- 16:31Speaker 1: constantly working on that stuff. I just want to physically
- 16:34Speaker 1: be able to not only just get through the show physically,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but also to play it in a way that makes
- 16:40Speaker 1: the eyes go, yeah, nailed it. So beyond that, the
- 16:46Speaker 1: only person I'm trying to whose respect i'm trying to
- 16:48Speaker 1: get really is that stupid asshole fourteen year old version
- 16:52Speaker 1: of myself. Nobody else, just that asshole that lives inside it.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And do you think he's impressed?
- 17:03Speaker 1: No better, dude.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Speaking it.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I'll make it easy for yourself too, might like you've
- 17:15Speaker 3: done yourself no favorites voicing three of the characters and
- 17:18Speaker 3: being a seeing side of another, Like, have you ever
- 17:20Speaker 3: thought of geting other people into share them work later?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Or the character is too much a part.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Of you now to sort of want to share them
- 17:27Speaker 3: with anyone else.
- 17:28Speaker 1: It's a good question. I have what I'm doing right now,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I can do it's definitely. It's really funny. There's there's
- 17:35Speaker 1: a place where I'm just just full musician up there,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and then there's a place where I have to turn
- 17:39Speaker 1: into a comedian. There's one part of the show and
- 17:42Speaker 1: I think, oh my god, what am I going to say?
- 17:44Speaker 1: I should have thought of this earlier. So there's a
- 17:47Speaker 1: part where I have to navigate both of those things,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and there are two different parts of the brain, and
- 17:51Speaker 1: I have to really like flip like a lazy suasan
- 17:54Speaker 1: switch over to another part and go, okay, here I
- 17:57Speaker 1: am now. But the part of making the show work
- 18:01Speaker 1: is doing a lot of characters. Part of the production
- 18:04Speaker 1: of the show is me being able to do squist
- 18:06Speaker 1: guard Nathan Pickles. I do their manager, the CFO Charles,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I do their producer Dick Nubbler. I do like, I'll
- 18:14Speaker 1: do like. I think. I did a movie where I
- 18:17Speaker 1: did maybe fourteen characters, but those are the normal characters
- 18:21Speaker 1: that I do. But to me, it's all part of
- 18:23Speaker 1: the same fun Do I get to do all those characters?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:26Speaker 1: How much can I make my voice sound different from
- 18:28Speaker 1: this guy? To this guy. How can you I want
- 18:31Speaker 1: people that don't know much about me to never know
- 18:33Speaker 1: about me to think it's populated with a bunch of
- 18:35Speaker 1: different people, you know. So that to me is the
- 18:39Speaker 1: fun of doing this project. The fun this project. We
- 18:42Speaker 1: never had a lot of money to do it, so
- 18:44Speaker 1: how much could we do? How much could I ring
- 18:46Speaker 1: everything out of myself to make it into this project
- 18:49Speaker 1: and not spend any extra money. That's being a producer.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So I'm also interested in I mean, doing voices is
- 18:56Speaker 1: something I've been interested since I was a kid, playing guitar,
- 18:59Speaker 1: since I was a kid, making comedy since I was
- 19:01Speaker 1: a kid. So how can I put all my strength
- 19:04Speaker 1: in one little place and keep on milking it? But
- 19:07Speaker 1: I have used Mike Kneely, who is a He played
- 19:11Speaker 1: guitar with Death Clock for years. I did use him
- 19:15Speaker 1: as a voice, a singing voice on a one hour
- 19:17Speaker 1: long rock opera special we did with a fifty piece
- 19:19Speaker 1: of orchestra for Metal Acalypse, And so that did give
- 19:24Speaker 1: me a little bit of a relief. If I choose
- 19:27Speaker 1: to ever do any of that music again, maybe I'll
- 19:29Speaker 1: bring on some other singers, because that's where it starts
- 19:32Speaker 1: getting tricky.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, really, I bet I purs you with this question, Mike,
- 19:36Speaker 3: but without side, without looking down the track, like.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I suppose you have to look down the track.
- 19:43Speaker 3: But how do you think we'll retire first the TV
- 19:46Speaker 3: death clock or the or the band?
- 19:49Speaker 1: Well, the show has completed itself. In twenty twenty three,
- 19:51Speaker 1: we put out the final movie. And that's kind of
- 19:53Speaker 1: why we're kind of alive again, is because a big
- 19:56Speaker 1: movie put out a record. And and the truth is that,
- 20:02Speaker 1: like I think this stuff is going to live on
- 20:04Speaker 1: for a while. Whether or not we are playing live
- 20:08Speaker 1: will be a different story. I'm really interested in it
- 20:11Speaker 1: right now. Like I said, I like a good challenge,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and this presents a really good challenge every single night.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And and it's one right, you know, I have to,
- 20:19Speaker 1: like I have to like literally get into better shape
- 20:22Speaker 1: to be able to do all this stuff. You know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I have to be like in like in good guitar
- 20:27Speaker 1: shape and good physical shape and all that stuff. And
- 20:29Speaker 1: right now I'm interested in all that as long as
- 20:33Speaker 1: everyone can still play. The crazy thing about rock and
- 20:35Speaker 1: roll is that Rolling Stones are still playing. I remember
- 20:38Speaker 1: that was like in the in the eighties, people were like,
- 20:40Speaker 1: can you believe these guys are in their forties and
- 20:42Speaker 1: still playing.
- 20:43Speaker 2: The I play metal, that I play metal.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Yeah they don't. You're right, they don't play metal, and
- 20:52Speaker 1: metal is like, oh man, keep all your muscles tight.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, you're right. But Metallica is still playing. Metallica
- 20:59Speaker 1: is not that old, but Metallica is playing. I saw
- 21:02Speaker 1: him this past year. They started out standing. They sounded
- 21:05Speaker 1: better than ever.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Fantasty Brandon, well, thanks for you talking. I bro's being
- 21:09Speaker 3: absolute pleasurement. I was a lot more enjoyable than what
- 21:11Speaker 3: I thought it was gonna be.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Oh see
