- 0:00Numbers chapter 8. Let's pray.
- 0:05Father God, we enter in to the throne room of grace.
- 0:15We enter in by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 0:20Lord, we thank you for another day to come and to worship you
- 0:25in spirit and truth. Lord, I pray that you will help
- 0:30us, help us to see our need for you.
- 0:34Lord, we confess all the times that we've got it wrong.
- 0:39We receive our bridal identity. We receive the forgiveness.
- 0:44God, today is the day of salvation, Lord.
- 0:47So we surrender all, not just some, Lord, we surrender all.
- 0:53We lay it all at the foot of the cross.
- 0:55Lord, help us not pick it back up.
- 1:00We thank you, Lord, for Jesus Christ coming, living a perfect
- 1:05life. We thank you, Lord, that he died
- 1:07a criminal's cross. Lord, we receive the blood that
- 1:15ran red down that cross, the water that was spewed out.
- 1:18We eat the flesh, God. We drink the blood, Father.
- 1:24We thank you for our inheritance.
- 1:26We thank you, God for being the least in the Kingdom.
- 1:30We thank you, God, that you paid it all for the Pearl of great
- 1:36price. Lord, help us to be those that
- 1:39sell everything, to buy the treasure in the field.
- 1:43God, I pray against the birds who come and nest in the
- 1:46branches, father. I pray that we'll grow up like
- 1:50the mustard seed, Lord, into a tree, Father.
- 1:54But I pray that you'll shoo the birds away, Father.
- 1:57Don't let him snatch the sea, Father.
- 2:00I pray that it's fertile soil that this word reaches, that it
- 2:04goes down deep into the cracks and crevices and fills all of
- 2:10the hurts and the hang ups, Lord.
- 2:12And I pray that you'll just continue to get glory, Father.
- 2:16I pray you'll anoint this time, Father.
- 2:18I pray that somebody gets saved. I pray God, you'll break off the
- 2:22false narratives, Lord, and I pray that you'll continue, Lord,
- 2:26to expand the horizon, Father, for what you want to do for such
- 2:31a day as this, Lord, bring them into the fold, Lord, I pray that
- 2:35somebody, somewhere, Father, will see you correctly and they
- 2:40will come in. They'll surrender all and
- 2:43they'll be there with us forevermore.
- 2:47Lord, teach us your paths. Light it up, God.
- 2:51Let us walk in it today. We're acknowledging you, Lord,
- 2:54so we're believing. We're standing on the firm
- 2:56foundation that you're going to direct our paths today.
- 3:00Direct my speech, Lord. Hide me and hide my words.
- 3:04It's all about King Jesus. It's not about me, Father, it's
- 3:07all about you. So Lord, we just say yes and
- 3:10Amen to every jot and every title for every syllable that's
- 3:14on the page. God, we say yes and Amen to
- 3:17every bit of it. And we might not understand it,
- 3:20God, but we believe it and we hide it.
- 3:23And Lord help us to understand it.
- 3:25And it's in Jesus Christ. Holy and precious, powerful
- 3:28name. Pray Amen.
- 3:32Let's start in verse one. And the Lord spoke unto Moses,
- 3:37saying, Too, speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When you light
- 3:41the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the
- 3:45Candlestick. So if you were tuned into the
- 3:48last chapter, you know that at the very end of all the Princess
- 3:52bringing in all of their sacrifices and their gifts there
- 3:56to the temple, you saw that at the very end God had a word for
- 4:00Moses. And here we pick it up in this
- 4:02chapter and we see that God wanted to talk to Moses and say,
- 4:07Hey, when you talk to Aaron, talk to him about the lampstand.
- 4:12And we see that the lampstand was beaten out of the gold, the
- 4:15pure gold, and it wasn't hollow, it was pure and it was
- 4:19completely full. But it does not give light in
- 4:25and of itself. There must be oil put into it
- 4:29and it must be lit, friends. And we let God light us up, and
- 4:36we allow God to give us our light.
- 4:40We are nothing more than vessels for His light to be shown
- 4:45through. And here we can see that this is
- 4:49synonymous with what we read over in the Book of Revelation
- 4:53when he's talking about the churches and the angels of the
- 4:57churches, the messengers of the churches, the leaders of those
- 5:00churches. And you see here that God has a
- 5:04very peculiar interest in this menorah, in this lamp.
- 5:11And if we just let it sit, it has no use.
- 5:16And we cannot be lukewarm. We must be either hot or cold.
- 5:23And here you also need to understand that the Holy Spirit
- 5:28is the one who lights us up. But we must become the vessels
- 5:33to be emptied of self and to be filled with His oil, the oil of
- 5:37gladness. The Holy Spirit comes upon us,
- 5:40and that is what lights us up for.
- 5:45And this work of the Candlestick was a beaten gold unto the
- 5:48shaft. 3 Then Aaron did so, and he lit the lamps thereof over
- 5:55against the Candlestick, as the Lord commanded Moses.
- 5:58Four. And this work of the Candlestick
- 6:00was a beaten gold unto the shaft thereof.
- 6:03Unto the flowers thereof it was beaten work, according into the
- 6:07pattern which the Lord has showed Moses.
- 6:09So he made the Candlestick. So there it is.
- 6:12God gave Moses this blueprint of what he wanted, and then Moses
- 6:19allowed the men who were filled with the Holy Spirit to cast
- 6:24this beautiful peace that was pure gold 5.
- 6:29And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying, 6.
- 6:32Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse
- 6:36them. So he's going to make them like
- 6:38newborn babes. 7 And thus shalt you do unto them, to cleanse
- 6:42them, sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let
- 6:46them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes and
- 6:50so make themselves clean. They were like newborn babes.
- 6:55And we see that this is the ashes of the red heifer.
- 6:59We'll see that later on in the Book of Numbers that the ashes
- 7:04of the red heifer were sprinkled into the water onto these
- 7:07Levites, consecrating them. 8 Then let them take a young bull
- 7:16with his meat, offering even fine flour mingle with oil, and
- 7:19another young bull shall you take for a sin offering nine.
- 7:23And you shall bring the Levites before the Tabernacle of the
- 7:26congregation, and you shall gather the whole assembly of the
- 7:30children of Israel together. So this was a public spectacle
- 7:34of these men, shaved and shorn and sprinkled. 10 And you shall
- 7:41bring the Levites before the Lord, and the children of Israel
- 7:44shall put their hands upon the Levites. 11 And Aaron shall
- 7:49offer the Levites before the Lord for an offering of the
- 7:53children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the
- 7:56Lord. So an entire tribe is given over
- 7:59to the service of the Lord, and the people come, and they lay
- 8:02their hands upon them, signifying that they are giving
- 8:07them over unto the Lord. 12 And the Levites shall lay their
- 8:12hands upon the heads of the bulls, and shall offer the one
- 8:16for the sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering unto
- 8:19the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.
- 8:23So here they're putting all of their sins and trespasses upon
- 8:28this animal. 13 And you shall set the Levites before Aaron and
- 8:33before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the Lord.
- 8:37So they were for Aaron and his sons, the high priest and the
- 8:39priest usage in the temple. 14 This shall thus shall you
- 8:45separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the
- 8:49Levites shall be mine. 15 And after that shall the Levites go
- 8:55in to do the service of the Tabernacle of the congregation,
- 8:58and you shall cleanse them and offer them for an offering. 16
- 9:04For they are wholly given unto me.
- 9:06And among the children of Israel, instead of such as open
- 9:10every womb, even, instead of the first born of all the children
- 9:15of Israel, have I taken them unto me.
- 9:17So God, unlike the animals, God here is saying that all the
- 9:23first born belonged to him, but He would exchange their lives
- 9:28because God wanted to keep them alive, because He does not ever
- 9:34demand any kind of human sacrifice.
- 9:37And so therefore he's saying, in the exchange for them, keeping
- 9:44all their first borns alive and at home, he would take the
- 9:49Levites unto himself. 16 For they are wholly given unto me
- 9:55among the children of Israel, instead of such as open the
- 9:58womb, I have taken them unto me. 17 For all the first born of the
- 10:03children of Israel are mine, both man and beast.
- 10:07On the day that I struck every first born in the land of Egypt,
- 10:11I sanctified them for myself. So as the Passover went, they
- 10:16passed over all of Israel's first born, those that had the
- 10:19blood on the lentils. 18 And I have taken the Levites for all
- 10:24the first born of the children of Israel. 19 And I have given
- 10:29the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the
- 10:32children of Israel, to do the service of the children of
- 10:36Israel in the Tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
- 10:40atonement for the children of Israel, that there be no plague
- 10:44among the children of Israel when the children of Israel come
- 10:49near unto the sanctuary. So that's the whole bottom line
- 10:53here is that God wanted them to be holy, and as they approached
- 10:57them to the sanctuary, he wanted them to be covered, and at one
- 11:01with him. 20 And Moses and Aaron in all the congregation, the
- 11:09children of Israel, did to the Levites, according unto all that
- 11:13the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did
- 11:17the children of Israel unto them.
- 11:20Here you can see lots and lots and lots of radical obedience
- 11:24leading up to Chapter 11. 21 And the Levites were purified, and
- 11:33they washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as an
- 11:36offering before the Lord, And Aaron made an atonement for them
- 11:39to cleanse them. 22 And after that went the Levites in to do
- 11:44the service of the Tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron
- 11:48and before his sons. As the Lord had commanded Moses
- 11:52concerning the Levites, so did they unto them. 23 And the Lord
- 11:56spoke unto Moses, saying, 24 This is it that belongs unto the
- 12:01Levites. From 25 years old and upward
- 12:05they shall go in to wait upon the service of the Tabernacle of
- 12:09the congregation. So here we can see that at 25
- 12:13their training started and then at 30 they launched it. 25 And
- 12:24from the age of 50 years they shall cease waiting upon the
- 12:27service thereof, and they shall serve no more, 26 but shall
- 12:32minister with their brothers in the Tabernacle of congregation,
- 12:36to keep the charge, and shall do no service.
- 12:40Thus shalt you do unto the Levites, touching their charge.
- 12:43So here he's giving them their retirement plan and telling them
- 12:48at age 50 all the heavy lifting and everything that was required
- 12:52for the animal sacrifices and the moving of the tent and all
- 12:56the heavy articles. At 50 years old, it could cease,
- 13:00but they could still volunteer and they could still come and
- 13:03help out, but they did not have to be required to do all of the
- 13:08heavy work that they were doing whenever they were younger.
- 13:12What an amazing God that we serve.
- 13:14He even cares about our physical limitations, friends, and He
- 13:18created us out of dust, out of nothing, and He knows our
- 13:22limitations and He makes provision for that.
- 13:25What an amazing, thoughtful God that we serve.
- 13:27I hope you've been blessed by this absolutely incredible
- 13:31chapter here in God's Word. I know I sure have.
- 13:34I'm praying for for every single one of you.
- 13:36I love you. We'll see you back here
- 13:39tomorrow. God bless you.
