- 0:00SPEAKER_00: The four most difficult words for an overachiever to adapt are, it's by God's grace.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: For years, I wanted the awards, the applause, and the spotlight.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I thought those things meant I'd made it.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I grow in age.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I grow deeper and realize the most powerful four words we can say at the end of
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: an assignment isn't, look what I did there.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: It's by God's grace.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Today, our focus is Proverbs 25, 6 through 7, because it's the 25th day of the month.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: and it's my desire to help you connect biblical wisdom
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: to everyday marketplace decisions.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Allowing you to build relationships that outlast any transactions.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I do my best to bring timeless biblical truth into the marketplace
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: where influence is real, choices are constant, and relationships matter.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: So, pour yourself a cup of coffee,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: tea, soda, water, whatever it is you drink when you listen to this podcast.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So reading the chapter of Proverbs 25,
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: verses 6 through 7 from the CSB, quote,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Don't boast about yourself before the king,
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: and don't stand in the place of the great,
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: for it is better for him to say to you,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Come up here, than to demote you in plain view of a noble.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: In my early years of chasing transactions, I was an overachiever.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And not just in results, but in image.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: I didn't just want to succeed from man's perspective.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I wanted to be seen succeeding.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I wanted the plaques, the titles, the recognition.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And looking back, I can see for what it was, really.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Transactional validation.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: My performance had become the altar, and the awards were my offering.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I didn't recognize the cost.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: You see, ego, edging God out, always carries a hidden price tag.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And mine was exhaustion, frustration, a spirit of heaviness at times.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 25 warns us against self-promotion, against forcing our way to the front.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And I was doing just that, frankly.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I'd like to share something.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I read two men and their final words.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I once heard a pastor tell how the Apostle John,
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: who lived past 100, rarely spoke in his final days.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: But when he did, it was just three words.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And then that same pastor in his presentation that Saturday afternoon said
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: that Billy Graham,
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: another man who ran his race well,
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: summed up his life's work in just three words, by God's grace.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Now, those words resonated me in the best way because when I look back at my career,
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: the moments I regret most Weren't the losses.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: They were the seasons when it was all about the trinity of me, myself, and I.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: When I stopped chasing quick transactions and stopped caring about titles
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: and trophies, everything shifted.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: I started building meaningful relationships.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And soon, the transactions started coming to me.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: You know, in the marketplace, the KPIs that really matter come from Proverbs 25.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: It isn't just about kings and nobles.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: It's about posture.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: The KPI that really matters is humility.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And humility isn't playing small.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: It's letting God lift us up in his time, not ours.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: The KPI that matters most in the kingdom isn't our rank.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: It's our readiness.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: It's the quiet integrity that eventually gets noticed,
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: not because we demanded it, but because God brought it into view.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Jesus modeled this perfectly.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: No striving, no self-promotion, just strength under control.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code, quote, self-promotion exhaust.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Spirit-led humility invites God's promotion in his time.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Today's expanded action points reflect honestly.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Identify where you're still saying, it's all me.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Is it in your sales goal, your reputation, or your leadership style?
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Action point number two, release the spotlight.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Resist the temptation to boast or self-promote.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Let your results and your relationships speak to you.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Action point number three, pursue depth, not applause.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Replace surface-level wins with investment in trust,
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: service, significance added, value added that give long-term value.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Action point number four, close the day in peace.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Ask yourself, did I reflect God today in my tone, my decisions, and my integrity?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I remind you that I've talked about before that there are five Gospels,
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And the fifth Gospel is us.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: We may be the only Bible people read this week.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: thank you for joining me for today's episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: with Ernie.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: As I share insights from Proverbs to inspire the adoption
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: of customer success mastery in the marketplace, I want to be clear.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: My goal is to offer practical applications from my own experience, not to teach doctrine.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I am committed to staying true to God's Word and avoiding any false doctoring.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Focusing only on how these verses and applications can guide us in serving
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: with integrity and wisdom.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: So, if you hear me spreading false doctrine, please call me out, Ernie at Ernie.Coach.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: I truly do appreciate your comments,
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: and I speak the book of Numbers, chapter 6, verses 24 through 26 over you.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: May the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: If this message encouraged you, please share it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Every good thing I've been able to do in the marketplace has been by God's grace.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And that's a KPI no spreadsheet can measure.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So remember, success is temporal.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Let's meet again on the next episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
