- Canon Stogner: Welcome back to another episode of the Saturday Slate. We are going to be previewing week three of the college football where a lot of teams are getting into conference play and things are starting to shape out before we head into the thick of the regular season. Before we start, I just want to thank you guys for tuning in. We usually have about 20, 30 consistent viewers, and we appreciate you so much and we hope that you continue to watch and that we can Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: entertain you for an hour or however long our episode is. before we start, if you are watching us on YouTube, we're going to give you a five second countdown to go ahead and subscribe. And if you are subscribed, go ahead and hit that thumbs up and give us a like or leave a comment if you want to do. So we'll give you five seconds. Awesome. Thank you guys. all right. We have a couple big games this weekend that we're going to talk about. the first one obvious being Mississippi State and South Carolina. And I think looking towards this game, probably middle of June or when the schedule came out, you weren't thinking this was a massive game and this should be a must-win for South Carolina, especially if they want to reach the expectations that they put on themselves and as South Carolina fans that we have for them with the roster that they have built. But I think now this week especially and over the last couple of weeks, the narrative has changed a little bit, especially a lot around Mississippi State and what they have done. I think Camario Taylor is starting to put the world on notice. He was a little bit overshadowed coming in because of how deep the SEC is. But I think now you could respectfully put him at the top of the SEC quarterbacks just because of the talent he has. He's got a strong arm, very good with his legs. He is coached by an incredible coach with Jeff Levy. I Andrew Wright: Thank Canon Stogner: know Will's going to dive into that a little bit later. So yeah, this is a massive game. let's go ahead and look at the stats. Both teams are two and They're going to be kicking off at 4 15 on Saturday in Williams Bryce. Me and Stooby will be there. Will, are you going Andrew Wright: That's right. Canon Stogner: to be there or not? Will Morris: Past week. Canon Stogner: Awesome. Well, we'd love to have you. We'll miss you if you're not. Andrew Wright: Hey. Canon Stogner: so Mississippi, they are averaging 50 points a game. South Carolina's fifty one points a game. And Mississippi is coming off wins versus ULM, where they won sixty two to thirteen. And Minnesota, where they won thirty eight to thirteen, and really a bloodbath versus Minnesota. The Golden Gophers, am I correct on that? Yeah. So they have really been dominant and yeah, the schedule hasn't been the hardest thing for them. But I mean, just a few years back, they maybe even lose that game to Minnesota. So to go in there and thrash them at Minnesota against a PJ Fleck team is very impressive out of them. they're averaging 620 yards a game compared to South Carolina's 573. Kamario Taylor is passing for 322 yards a game, or as a team they are. I'm sure some of that's backups compared to South Carolina's 232 after a letdown game against Towson, where they did get the win, but very underwhelming for the offense. Mississippi State is rushing for nearly 300 yards per game compared to South Carolina's three hundred and forty-one yards per game. So yeah, that is a lot for both teams. And I wouldn't expect that to keep up for the entire season. But for now, that is what the stat is. So it's impressive to look at that. Mississipp State's defense averaging thirt giving up thirteen points a game compared to South Carolina's four and a half, where they shut out Kent State in the first game and gave up nine to Towson in the second game. Mississippi State's defense is given up two hundred and eighty-five yards compared to South Carolina's a hundred and ninety-one. And pass defense for Mississippi State is a little bit probably underwhelming for them as they've given up two hundred and ten yards compared to South Carolina's 130. And to say that without having Didland Stewart on the field is a pretty good category for South Carolina because without him, you know you're not getting the same quality of pass rushing and you're forcing the defensive backs and linebackers to guard for longer than probably they'd like to. So only giving up 130 yards a game right now is pretty impressive. And the rushing defense for both teams has been very outstanding. So Mississippi State's given up 75 yards a game and South Carolina's only given up 60 yards a game on the rushing part of the defense. So very good rushing defenses for both teams. And like I said, the schedule hasn't been as difficult, but still pretty impressive to do that. Mississippi State, after winning at Minnesota, they snapped Minnesota's eight game home winning streak. and South Carolina has only allowed ten points or nine points through two games. Andrew Wright: Thanks. Canon Stogner: So, yes, this talk is going to be about Lenore Sellers and Camario Taylor, but ultimately I think this game comes down to Mississippi State's explosive offense Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: going against South Carolina's shutdown defense. And a big part of that is Dylan Stewart. Andrew Wright: So thank Canon Stogner: the injury report has not been released yet. He is probably going to be questionable. I would not be surprised if we do see him Saturday. I think it will be in a limited fashion. Andrew Wright: Yes. Canon Stogner: but just to have him out there is massive because even at 80, 90%, or wherever he may be, is probably better than 90% of the edge rushers Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: in college football. So very massive. However, I do think Mississippi is hoping he plays in the fact that. A lot of teams over the last couple of years have used Dylan Stewart's pass rushing to his advantage and started running the ball at him because he is so quick off the ball. He's rushing outside a lot that a lot of teams have decided to run the ball. And he's not the biggest guy, like stature wise. He's kind of like a slim frame. not saying he's not strong, but I just think him being in that frame, a lot of teams like to wear him down. So he's not as effective in the fourth quarter. so yeah. Very big game. I hope it goes right for South Carolina. I think the spread is now at three and a half. Am I right on that? It started at six and a half and it's now moved down to three and a half. So Will Morris: I think I think it started at seven and a half. I think it was over a touchdown. It's gone all the way down to three and a half. Canon Stogner: Yeah. So and don't think that's anything that South Carolina has done wrong. I just think a lot of people were shot by Mississippi State. This is now Jeff Levy's third year there. Andrew Wright: There. Canon Stogner: and another interesting stat, in the five seasons that Shane Beamer has been at South Carolina, he has never started three and and he has never won the third game of any season he's been there. So yeah. So if you look at it with the betting line coming down, you look at that stat by Shane Beamer. And you start to just listen to folks, you have a lot of reason to be worried about South Carolina coming into this game. I don't think we're gonna see like an overlook factor because I think Mississippi State, like we said, are kind of putting themselves on the map now. But they definitely have to come out ready to play. Will, what do you have? Will Morris: Yeah, so obviously this is a massive game. And you know, coming to the season, especially the South Carolina fan, you start looking at the schedule and you're trying to figure up, okay, what what are the range of possibil possibilities here? You know, I think the high end, at least coming into the season, was probably nine, maybe ten wins. You you know, maybe you could talk me into ten wins if everything went perfect. but that would be counting basically all the games like Mississipp Mississippi State as wins. Okay. Now that we have two weeks of game intel to actually digest and think about. And like you just said, the line has obviously moved from seven and a half to three and a half. You feel like this is this is not a game that you can just chalk up to win. I think that's obvious to everybody, but I'm just putting it into perspective from like coming into the season. So I did a little deep dive, not not too much of a deep dive, but just a dive into Jeff Levy and kind of his role in the offenses that he's been a part of. Let me just let me just I'm gonna read off the FBS rank as far as total offense for the offenses that he has been a part of from 2019 until 2023. So 2024 he took over in Mississippi. So in 2019, he Andrew Wright: Thank Will Morris: was with UCF number two in total offense. 2020, Ole Miss, number three total offense. 2021, number six total offense, 2022, Oklahoma, number 13, 2023, Oklahoma, number three. Okay, so you start to look at The offenses that he's been a part of. Now, I will say, granted, when he was at UCF, Josh Heichel was the head coach, and we know what kind of offenses that he's capable Andrew Wright: Thank Will Morris: of producing. when he was at Ole Miss, Lane Kifflin was there, and he was obviously heavily involved with offensive he didn't do the he did let Jeff Levy call plays, but obviously Lane had his hands all over that offense. Canon Stogner: Okay. Will Morris: So I say all that to say last year, Mississippi State or two years ago in 2024, Mississippi State Seventy eighth overall in total offense. Last year, fifty-six overall. So you can kind of see the progressive working. obviously Tomario Taylor, he didn't play until the end of the season. I think his first start was in the egg bowl, actually. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: And so if you track the way Andrew Wright: Press. Will Morris: that Jeff Levy has historically performed, you expected kind of a breakout season if Camario Taylor could come out and be who we thought he could be. I mean, he's a freak, and everybody knew that coming into the year. But now, especially after last week, when you go up and they just body bagged Andrew Wright: Yeah. Will Morris: Minnesota. I mean, they just they handled the game and it was never really in doubt. now I think everybody Andrew Wright: you Will Morris: is awake to the fact that you got Jeff Levy, obviously you Camario Taylor. everybody is aware of that. And so this is a massive game, I think. from a South Carolina standpoint, I think that this com coming in the season, I thought that week four was gonna gonna be the the game that really the season was gonna hinge on. you got Alabama next week. Now I'm moving that up a week. I think that this Andrew Wright: Okay. Will Morris: week is is the week that I'm not gonna say Shane Beamer's like whole kind Andrew Wright: Thank Will Morris: of the way that the the fan base is gonna perceive him as riding on this one game, but man, it really is a lot. Because if you have your home opener against Mississippi State, who is in the bottom half of the SEC, if they come in and they handle us to some degree, if we lose by like two scores, I mean, just imagine the feeling. I mean, we're all South Carolina fans, imagine the feeling you might have after that game, right? Y'all are both going to be there. I might be there. We get to the third quarter. We're losing 24 to 10. And we're thinking, Andrew Wright: . Will Morris: good grief. We got Alabama next week. We got Kentucky after that, who didn't look bad. You Andrew Wright: You hear? Right. Will Morris: know, so then you your mind starts going to really bad places, right? Places Andrew Wright: No. Will Morris: that you don't want to be as a South Carolina fan. So Canon Stogner: Familiar with. Will Morris: yeah, unfortunately familiar. So I say all that to say Mississippi State looks really good. Jeff Levy's history says that the offense is going to continue. It's not a fluke through the first two games. South Carolina massive. It's in front of your home crowd. It's supposed to be a sellout. you gotta win this game if you shame Bieber. but it they they have a tall task, so Canon Stogner: Yeah, I was gonna say this Camaro Taylor has now made three career starts going into his fourth this weekend. he has yet to throw an interception in his career, and he has never played a true road game. Yeah, they went to Minnesota last week. No disrespect no disrespect Andrew Wright: Yeah Canon Stogner: to the Golden Gophers and the boat rowing people, but it ain't Williams Bryce. And Will Morris: It ain't it ain't gonna be this. It's not gonna be right there. Andrew Wright: That's right. Yeah. Canon Stogner: I'm not to say we have the type of Platform where people are going to see this and listen to me right now. But they have announced a sellout, and I'm sure Shane Beamer will talk about it. But if you're going to that game and you show up sloppy drunk or you got a bad attitude because they're playing Mississippi's Mississippi State and South Carolina's won the last eight of nine matchups, you're in the wrong and you better be loud because Camaro Taylor's never played in a game like this. And You know the player's gonna be bought in, they're gonna be excited. First SEC game, you have to be ready to go, show up and be loud because if not, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Camario Taylor will make an impact. And another thing I wanted to touch on is yeah, Camario Taylor is incredible, but they have a running back in Fluff Bothwell, who I hope I said that right, is a short, compact running back that will run through you if you're not ready to tackle. And I hope Sarkon doesn't spend too much time preparing for Camario Taylor because if they do, then Fluff Bothwell is gonna have a night. So they are three Will Morris: Yeah. They r I think they last last week I think they rushed for almost three hundred yards, which I Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: thought was the most impressive thing from their win last week was obviously Camario Taylor, he is who he is. Man, the running games showed up too, and they just dominated Minnesota's, you know, Andrew Wright: Let's go. Will Morris: defensive line. Canon Stogner: Yeah. So yeah, I mean it's a massive game. Missis Mississippi State has guys all over the field and they have to show up. Now, Will, I'm glad you did a deep dive on Jeff Levy. I personally did a deep dive on Clayton White and Andrew we'll get into you in a minute. I did a deep dive on Clayton White today. And I kind of sent this to both of you and I wanted to figure out what do we exactly call a quality game from a quarterback? So like in baseball, if you pitch six innings and give up three or less runs. That is technically called a quality start. So I asked y'all, and we came up with a number that 275 total yards, whether it's passing, rushing, or both, is a quality game from a quarterback in college. And so I did the research and Clayton White's been at South Carolina since 2021. And I tallied 24 games where they have faced a dual threat quarterback who is averaging 275 yards or more through the season with passing and rushing. And over the five seasons that he faced twenty four dual threat quarterbacks, he was seventeen and seven in those games holding them under twenty two hundred and seventy five yards. one of those games was obviously against Marcel Reid last year where he threw for almost five hundred without the legs. Andrew Wright: You Canon Stogner: and this isn't the win loss record seventeen and seven, because it's not fair to Clayton White to put the winning loss column on him just because he was with Seb Nolan and Luke Dode and just a bad team a couple of years. So I gave him benefit of the doubt and I just gave him a win and loss for guys that he kept under or over 275 yards. And he was 17 and 7, which is very impressive. Yeah. Will Morris: That's pretty good. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: And I did a little bit more deep dive into it. And to those 24 quarterbacks, he held those QBs to a completion percentage of 58% and 200 yards a game average out of the 24 guys. So expect South Carolina's defense to be prepared for the legs of Comario Taylor and the arm. Yeah, he's gonna make some big plays because that's the type of guy he is and he has talent. They're not just gonna shut him down completely. But if they can keep him under two hundred and seventy five where they don't let him go off on this is a very winnable game and it should be a winnable game for South Carolina. Will Morris: Canon, I love that you just went through that because you got me excited now. I was feeling a l I was feeling a little bit down heading into this game. A little bit down because we had all the drops last week. I was at the game last week, so I watched us just full off three touchdowns, just like blue, boop, boop, you know, just like that. You Canon Stogner: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Will Morris: got you got me excited, Sea Stock. Canon Stogner: Yeah. So expect the defense to come out ready to play. Andrew, what do you have? Andrew Wright: Alright fellas, so we've been spending a lot of time talking about Camario, TaylorDus, Camario, TaylorDus. I want to get to our quarterback. I want to get to 16. So kind of as we've Canon Stogner: Also. Andrew Wright: seen with him in 2024 and 2025, as is the case with most teams, Sal Carlana goes as Lenoros goes. Like I said, that's the case for most quarterbacks. We haven't quite had the offense or the run game or the defense to kind of pick up the slack when he struggles a little bit. So I wanted to dive in kind of to his... second season and third season to kind of see what went right in 2024 and what went wrong in 2025. And so eight SEC games a year in 2024, Lenores averaged 205 passing yards and 46 rushing yards per game. So that gave him an average of 251 yards per game against SEC opponents. Now, like we just said, with a quality game, that's not quite the 275 that we would consider a quality game, but I will say some of the rushing yards From that season, we're affected by sacks, which I don't like the college footballs that way, but that's kind of how it is. So that kind of lowered his rushing yards a little bit, but yeah, 251 yards a game from the Norris in 2024. Sacramento goes nine and three, and maybe we still think they should have been in the playoff. That's up to the committee. They didn't do that. And then we fast forward to 2025 where we Canon Stogner: Ha ha ha. Andrew Wright: think, hey, like this is the year we got the talent. Everybody thinks they're going to have a really good season. And then Loris comes out and he averages 181 yards a game passing and just 17 yards a game rushing. So that gave him a total of 198 yards per game against SEC opponents. Now that was again affected by him getting hurt against Vandy and only counting for 91 total yards in that. And then against Missouri, he was credited with negative 28 rushing yards because of sacks again. So again, those numbers get kind of lowered, but. That's a glaring difference between the 251 yards per game and 198. You're thinking that's close to 55 yards. That's over half possession probably. So yeah, I mean that was really the story to me is to see that he was half possession more better in 24 when they went nine and three compared to less than 200 yards a game with a four and eight season. So for me, it comes down to what he can do. Not only with his arm, with his legs. He's kind of week one was more of his arm. Week two was more of his legs. So think finding that really good balance between the two and week three will be really important to them to get off to a really good start in SEC play and for him to kind of have his first good game against an SEC opponent really since Alabama last year when he accounted for 300 yards. So that's the big thing for me is to see how well he can perform both in the air and on the ground and Will Morris: Yeah. Andrew Wright: with the SEC. Will Morris: And and I'll be honest too. So we kind of talked a bit about this during the week zero recap. So after week zero, I was really surprised with the production from the South Carolina wide receiver room and I was Andrew Wright: You Will Morris: really excited about what we might get. Obviously, we all saw what happened last week. I I think the key like Lenore Sellers really did I I don't know if y'all saw this, but he got like the offensive player of the game, along with an offensive lineman that Shane Boomer gave him. I know, crazy. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah. Will Morris: So they thought at least that he had made good decisions. so I think it's gonna be really, really interesting to see not only obviously we go as Lenore Sellers go, but we gotta see if they can catch catch the football too. we Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Will Morris: really I know I know that like I mean, there's been there's been a lot of they just they just gotta catch the football. I mean that that's it's just playing stuff. You gotta catch the football, you gotta get open, I mean, do all the things that you want SEC receivers to do. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I would be surprised if Monzo Bennett plays a lot like little amount of snaps this week. Cause you can't have your receiver showing up the quarterback. You can't have him dropping passes and forcing or leading to interceptions. You can't have him be in this all mood and all this when just last year you were a rising sophomore coming off a pretty good freshman year as a freshman, obviously. And then you come back into your junior year, yeah, you got two receivers go down, and then you kind of show some antics like you were the other night. That I wouldn't be surprised. I think we could see a heavy dose of Nitro Tuggle and Donovan Murph. but somebody's gotta step up because like I told Andrew on our Monday recap, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I don't think Nick Harbour puts a lot of fear in teams like Saracana fans think he does. It's very rare that you see teams double covering him. If they are, it's because it was a deep, deep route and the safety, you know, ended up guarding him as well. So yeah, somebody has to step up. And I don't think Kendall Browles has necessarily showed the offense. I don't want to say he's been doing a vanilla offense, but it is pretty positive to see that they are using Lenores' legs a little bit more than they were last year, even if it is against Kent State and Towson. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Because you don't want to see your quarterback get hurt against quality opponents like that. But so yeah, could be interesting. I think it's gonna be an incredible game. So all right, let's head into probably the most exciting game, but it is the most exciting game of the weekend. I think it's the most exciting game of the season, and that is LSU and Ole Miss, even over Texas and Ohio State last week. I think this is the biggest game of the year. Not just because both teams are two and both teams are top ten. And obviously it has something to do with the Lane Kiffin leaving, coming to L S U, going back to Ole Miss. A lot of fans were salty about him leaving. I think it's gonna be a nasty game. I think fans are gonna do things that probably is gonna Put a bad rep on Ole Miss. But at the end of the day, it's going to be 60 minutes of football between two great quarterbacks, two pretty good offenses, and two very good defenses, allegedly. so let's dive into that game a little bit. Both teams are two-0. LSU has opened the season with a 41-point win over Clemson and a 31-point win over Louisiana Tech. Ole Miss Enters two and after beating O Louisville and Charlotte. Ole Miss has a 13-game winning streak at home, which is where the game will be played. and the last six Ole Miss LSU matchups have been won by the home team. So something to look at, something interesting. It will be kicking off at 7:30. just diving into the stats real quick. Trinidad has thrown for 561 yards on 44 completions. Sam Levitt 574 yards on 41 completions. Sam Levitt has had an interception problem so far. He's thrown two touchdowns with four picks. And Trinidad has five touchdowns with one pick compared to the 133 passer rating by Sam Levitt and 170 by Trinidad. LSU's offense or defense has surprisingly been better statistically than Ole Miss so far this year. They've given up 142 yards a game, on only 18 rushing yards a game, and that is a game including against Clemson. and Ole Miss's defense has given up almost 250 passing yards a game and 152 rushing. So pretty big difference there. Yeah, I think I am going to pick LSU to win this game. I think it's gonna be a close game in the world that it is a blowout. I could Lane Kiffin running the score up out of spite. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Will Morris: yeah. Canon Stogner: but I am picking LSU to win this game. I hope we are able to watch it. Maybe we'll be on the way home by the time this game's starting, or at least by halftime. but yeah, very exciting game. Andrew, what do you have? Andrew Wright: Just like you said, hoping we'll get to watch a majority of this one. I'm really excited to watch those two quarterbacks play against those two defenses. That's the thing for me is like this feels like a game that I think more people would probably think more of a shootout than a low score in game. And if that is the case, it will be absolutely wonderful to watch those two quarterbacks go drive for drive. The Sam Levitz interception problem does concern me a little bit about him. Reinterception with LA Tech is not the best thing in the world. That's kind of worrisome, but for me comes down to what the quarterback play is and then like you said at the beginning, what's the energy? What are the emotions? How long does that carry over into the game? Like if you're Ole Miss, you can kind of feed off of that crowd as long as they'll let you, but if LSU comes in there and still some momentum right away, you got to kind of tone it back down and build your own energy at that point. So for me, yeah, what are the quarterbacks like and then what's the energy? What are the emotions and kind of how long does that carry over? Canon Stogner: Yeah. I was I think one thing about the emotions is I don't think it's affecting the Ole Miss players as much as as it is the coaches and the fans or the fans. I don't think it's affecting the players and the coaches as much as it is the fans. and I think LSU's gonna come in probably kind of laughing a little bit, laughing at all the antics going on by the Ole Miss fans. Because you know LSU's going to do their little tiger walk or whatever it is, although it's on the road, they're going to do their little walk in, and you know it's going to be packed with Ole Miss fans Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: doing something stupid. so if LSU comes into this game, though, kind of laughing and not taking it serious, not that they don't think Ole Miss is good, but just letting all the emotions get into them, Ole Miss can punch them right in the mouth, and Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: they're gonna be in for a long night. They have to be able to contain Trinidad. Will Morris: Yeah. Yeah, that for me that's that is that is gonna just be the evergreen truth for teams that play all miss is can you actually get well, can you keep Trinidad Chambliss in the pocket and then when he's not in the pocket, can you get him on the ground or get him to throw it away? Because see we we talked about this a couple weeks ago. He he just has like a sixth sense, like a spidey sense of just being able to feel where the pressure's coming and then not only be able to feel where the pressure's coming, but once he evades the pressure, he knows where his guys are. I don't know. I mean, I everybody runs the scramble drill. So it's like if shallow you go deep, if you deep become shallow, left, right, right, left, that kind of thing. But like he just knows where his guys are. So I think for Blake Baker and the LSU defense, they just have to figure out a way to contain Trinidad Chambles, number one. but then number two, once he does start to evade the pressure, because he just will, they have to limit his ability to create big plays out of that. They can let him scramble for four or five, but they just can't let him scramble for 15, Andrew Wright: it. Will Morris: you know, on third and six or something like that. Like you gotta be able to get off the field in third down. so I think the for me, obviously the the two quarterbacks, that's kind of the the big story. Lane Kevin, all the all off the field stuff. But for me the matchup is can LSU keep Trinidad Chambless to a somewhat manageable level? And I think if they can, I think LSU's got a good chance. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I saw a stat the other day, Will, I'm glad you said that. I think during our preseason podcast, one of our episodes during the preseason, I said that my top coaching trio with Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: offense coordinator, defense coordinator, and head coach was LSU. And I think one of you picked Oregon, maybe, or Ohio State, somebody like that. I can't remember exact or maybe Texas. but I said, I said Blake Baker, I think, is the best defense coordinator in football. And that was a big job or great job of being able to retain him with the LSU whenever Lane Kiffin came in and I think is showing the exotic pressures that he throws at quarterbacks. yes he hasn't faced an experienced quarterback yet with Fezena and whoever La Tech's quarterback is but I did see a stat. Deer knows two games he has blitzed 70% of the time and the 70% only like 10% of that 70 was with more than five guys. So he's sending exotic pressures and they're just bullets coming from everywhere that five's enough or even four is enough because the line are lines getting so confused of where it's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: coming from. So that would be something to watch. Can Trinidad handle the pressure? So Will Morris: Who let me let me ask y'all this. Who do you think has more pressure in this game? You think it's Ole Miss or do you think it's LSU? 'Cause obviously I don't know if y'all saw this, Lane Kivan came out and you know, he's I this is Coach Speaks, and you know, take take from this what you will, but he came out and said the pressure's Ole Miss. He was like, I think Ole Miss has Canon Stogner: I I agree. I agree. Will Morris: Okay, okay, yeah, what do y'all think? Okay. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I would say Ole Miss as well. Canon Stogner: And I say that in the fact that I don't think the loser of this game is necessarily out of the playoff, I guess, or has a steeper hill to climb, obviously because it's an SEC game they do. But I say that in the fact that I think Pete Golding has the most pressure because you're the one who is the success successor of Lane Kiffin and you know, can your offense deliver? You barely squeak by Louisville in a very good glank good game. And who knows? So And I mean Andrew, what do you say? Andrew Wright: Yeah, I think Ole Miss too, definitely. I remember kind of in our preseason saying something to you when we were kind of going through our games of the year. This was, think, one of the games of year for both of us. And like for me, it is Ole Miss because if LSU goes in there and lose, okay, we lost to a good team on the road, really hostile environment. And if Ole Miss loses, it's just like, dang, like this has been built up around our old coach coming back to his old stadium, and we had this crazy stadium, crazy atmosphere, and we lost. And like what does that do to them for the rest of the season? If you lose that game, what games do you think you can win at home or on the road? Canon Stogner: Who was the who was the team that was throwing golf balls at Land Kift a couple of years ago? Was it Tennessee? Andrew Wright: of Tennessee, of Tennessee, yeah. See, just for Ole Miss, like. Will Morris: 'cause he screwed Tennessee too. He's kinda screwed everybody wherever he's left. Southern Andrew Wright: Yeah, really. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: Cal, Tennessee. Canon Stogner: I don't I don't wanna say anything that's gonna get this show cancelled, but we could see some nasty things Saturday night. Andrew Wright: absolutely, absolutely. Will Morris: There's yeah. There's gonna be things that they should not Canon Stogner: And I Will Morris: be doing. Canon Stogner: yeah, and it could it could very well happen even before the game. Andrew Wright: Because he's gonna feed into it as well, he's not gonna, Linkin's not gonna shy away from Canon Stogner: yeah. Andrew Wright: it, he's gonna feed into it. Will Morris: He might bring Livy Dunn again. He might just walk in there with Livy Dunn. Canon Stogner: yeah. yeah. So very big game. I'm so excited for it. Andrew, are either one of you doing this for your spread pick? Andrew Wright: I'm not, no. Yeah, I was terr-terrifying. Will Morris: I couldn't do it. Canon Stogner: Okay, who do you w who do y'all have who do you all have winning? I have LSU. Andrew Wright: I'll take Ole Miss in the experienced quarterback. Not the Levenson out Will Morris: I'm I'm gonna go LC. Ooh. Okay. Alright, there it is. Yeah, I'll go LC. Andrew Wright: of experience, I'll take Turner. Turner, that's the better quarterback. I'll take the better quarterback. should say that. Canon Stogner: LSU is favored by three points right now to the listeners. all right, let's jump into another team that's in our backyard, not necessarily liked. North Carolina will play Clemson at noon this weekend in Memorial Stadium. probably not a lot of eyes going to be on this game outside of North Carolina fans and Clemson fans, but I think this game is going to be very close. I think it is going to be tight. necessarily for Clemson fans, I think Tate Reynolds is in for a long night or a long day. It is a new game. because looking at North Carolina's defense, they've given up one touchdown this year, and that was to TCU in the very first half. So they've played six quarters without giving up a touchdown. Clemson is twenty or one and at home this year beating Georgia Southern and another snooze fest. And I think a big part of this game is the field position. just watching the Georgia Southern game last weekend, Georgia Southern was backed up a lot due to punts or because Georgia Southern Georgia Southern could never flip the field during that game. They were always backed up, punting from the 10 20 yard line, and their punter wasn't that great. And Brian Westcoe was pretty electric, punt returning. So they were probably they were starting drives on the forty or fifty every drive on offense, pretty much. So field position is a massive one because I don't think North Carolina k North Carolina's offense can move the ball eighty, seventy yards on Clemson's defense. And I also don't know if Clemson's offense can do that on North Carolina. So I think the team that wins the field position this game gets the win. I do think Clemson will win it. But an interesting game to watch, Andrew. Andrew Wright: yeah, we could possibly be looking at the lowest viewed ACC game of the year, in my opinion. It's like you said. It's like you said, nobody the way close. Canon Stogner: No way. No way. Does Boston College does Boston College and Syracuse play? Probably. Andrew Wright: Probably Probably but like Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: you said the way it's kind of the way Clemson's fallen off there's not as much national attention on them as there could have been and then Clemson is so in the ACC through two games. They are dead last in yards per game passing yards per game and points per game Last week is Georgia Southern got him a little bit higher in the Russian yards per game Which I don't know how that's possible the way they ran against LSU how they could possibly not be last in that either So they're they're the worst offense in the ACC against North Carolina defense that shocked us in week zero when they like you said held TCU to one touchdown score from second half. So yeah, very, very defensive, slog fast, low scoring game. North Carolina is also in the bottom half of all the ACC rankings. So like this could very well be a case of first team to 14 wins. Like there's not gonna be anything exciting unless Tate Reynolds just comes out and plays like Trevor Lawrence somehow. Good time to take a nap if you want to get rested up for the soccer game or the night games. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I think I think obviously Tate Reynolds is very young and inexperienced in his freshman year. But he struggled against Georgia Southern. he didn't look great against LSU, which I'm not judging him too hard on that. But this is probably this is a defense that's very similar to Bill Belichick, not or but Blake Baker and LSU. Not necessarily that they're gonna be sending these blitzes coming from everywhere and all that. But Bill Belichick is a defensive-minded head coach. We know what he can do on defense. And he is probably going to confuse the crap out of Tate Reynolds. So they're probably going to take away his first read. And he hasn't shown to teams that he can go through his reads and hit another receiver. So if they can take away his first read and just get him down to the ground, North Carolina could have a field day with him. Andrew Wright: know this is, know Kostin's QB situation is a little mucky with him and Vizina. This would be a catastrophic loss for Devos when he comes and loses this game, in my opinion, catastrophic. So yeah, that's, yeah, Will Morris: Yes. Yeah. Andrew Wright: that's, it's so hard to say it, Canon Stogner: This game? This Andrew Wright: it's so hard to have a must-win game in week three of the season and a year where you look like you're bad, but it feels like they have to win this game to just get some kind of belief back in that Will Morris: Yep. Andrew Wright: pro. Will Morris: Sneakily so this so this feels similar to like what, not this week, but next week. Oregon plays Southern Cal. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Will Morris: If Oregon loses that game, Dan Lanning, we talked about like at the beginning of the year, like coaches we thought who are not on the hot seat at all, like not on the radar, it's turned into Dan Lanning, in my opinion. Obviously everybody Canon Stogner: Yeah, a hundred percent. Will Morris: coming to the season was kinda I I heard Josh Pay talk about this earlier today was, you know, who's gonna be the Penn State this year? Who's gonna be the Clemson this year? Ranked top Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Will Morris: ten, but then falls out. I mean obviously Oregon's staring you right in the face, but dude, if they end up like if they end up two and two with one of their wins been being by seven points against the G sixteen, no matter how good that G six team, that'd be bad. But for Clemson, it feels like that too, man. Like if they dude, if they end up laying an egg here, 'cause this is this is at home, right, or is this at North Carolina? Yeah, this is at Canon Stogner: This Yeah, it's at home. At Andrew Wright: Yeah, it's your home, yeah. Canon Stogner: noon. At noon too and away teams always have the advantage there. Will Morris: Yeah, yeah. Man, I mean if they if they go lay neck here. Here here's my feel on this game is I thought coming off of week one, Dabosweeney, he's always the rah rah guy, he's always the world's against us, everybody hates us, and that can't get any louder than it did after week one, right? Okay, yeah. Nobody I mean, it drives us nuts. We all know that, okay? Andrew Wright: Right. Yeah. Will Morris: Clipson guys love it, but we hate it. coming off that, I thought surely, surely he will have his team up to go and just boat race Georgia Southern to get And they just didn't dude. I mean, it looked like a very, very evenly matched football game, which is a problem. So Canon Stogner: Georgia Georgia Southern needed just one play and that game was completely flipped to where Clemson Will Morris: Yeah. Th Canon Stogner: fans were tight. Will Morris: Yes, yes. Thankful thankfully Clemson does have better athletes. Okay. So they Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: they just did out athlete them on the defensive side of the ball. So Georgia Southern never could move the ball effectively. But it was so like it felt like they were playing a a football team that was on the same level, and that just cannot be the case. So I thought surely they would get up for Georgia Southern. Maybe they didn't. If they didn't get up for Georgia Southern, I don't know what's gonna happen here with North you know, North Carolina. So we'll we'll see. But bad spot for Clemson, I think. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I'm going I'm going to go out on a limb here. And I'm not saying Davosweeney gets fired. I'm not saying that 'cause I don't think Clemson could ever fire him or should they ever fire him. I think he could lose as many games as he wants to. I think this week's game is the legacy saver or the dynasty crusher because they Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah, about a thousand percent agree. Canon Stogner: have been on top for ten, fifteen years now. If you lose to North Carolina this week, you go to Cal on a Friday night. And then after that game, depending on how that goes, you return home to play the hot scorching Miami Hurricanes. So if he loses this game, they have a disadvantage playing in California on a Friday night, traveling across the country. We're looking at a maybe a one and three start. Or no, one and four. One and four. Will Morris: Yeah, that'd be right. Andrew Wright: Yeah. And if you come on to Luz de Miami, you're at one in five, then what? What do you do Will Morris: Yeah. Andrew Wright: then? Will Morris: Yeah. I don't yeah, so I don't I don't think I don't think this one game would be a legacy destroyer. I think it would certainly send them on that path. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Canon Stogner: No, I'm not saying a legacy destroyer. Not a leg Will Morris: But but certainly like you like I was saying, you just cannot you cannot start a a a season off with the expectations of the program as a whole that Clemson does and go one and four. That just cannot happen. No matter Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Will Morris: who you're playing, to be on to be quite honest. Canon Stogner: I just man, I I really I don't want to upset any of my Clemson people. I really don't. Will Morris: Yeah. Canon Stogner: And they love it. So like it's gotta be just me being a South Carolina fan. But it just bothers me whenever and it's before the game even kicks off. We're talking about football, but I'm not right now. It bothers me whenever they run down the hill and Dabo Sweeney's at the 20 yard line before anybody else is running down that hill. He it's just an all about me type game when he's there. He wants everybody to see him running down that hill. And guys are twenty, forty yards behind him. He gets to the sideline with his headset and Holly Rowe's interview on him before anybody else gets down there. But Holly Rowe won't be in that game. Andrew Wright: Well at least somebody's talking to her dang it. At Will Morris: I was gonna say at least at least he's talking to her. Andrew Wright: least somebody's talking to her. Canon Stogner: All right, well that's enough of Clemson. We'll keep beating a dead horse until they finally get us something to talk about for real. Will Morris: Yeah, ju I just to be fair to all the Clemson fans, we do feel like South Carolina has a master game this week as well. The season could start to go wrong if South Carolina loses this week as well. So it's not just a let's just Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah. Andrew Wright: Yeah, right. If they start winning, we'll start talking good about them. Tell them to start winning. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: that's exactly right. That's a great point, Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: Andrew Wright. Canon Stogner: I'm just thinking maybe Davo should let the seniors run out first or something. Don't just is Will Morris: Ha ha ha. Canon Stogner: nobody's watching you play football. all right. Let's get into a massive Big Twelve game this week. We have another massive ACC game we'll talk about after this. But we have a massive Big Twelve game with Houston. They're ranked number twenty three, twenty one. Andrew Wright: 23 I think? 23. Will Morris: Yeah, Canon Stogner: Versus versus Will Morris: twenty two maybe, something like that. Canon Stogner: the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Both teams are two and Houston wins this game, they could very well be in the Big Twelve discussion for the playoff. Texas Tech wins this game, they have a lot more room to breathe and kind of get their feet out from under them and get back settled in because Texas Tech has not looked like the Texas Tech we've seen the last two or three years. And Andrew, I think me and you hit it right on the head. They lost a lot of guys on defense. They went to the draft. And Brendan Soresby being out with his whole eligibility thing, I think has hit them a lot harder than a lot of fans realize. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: And I think it's kind of going overshadowed just because of the conference that they're in. But this is a massive game. Texas Tech defending Bit 12 title. Houston has scored 110 points through twin ten games. this is their first road game of the year. Texas Tech has won nine consecutive home games, so they're looking to extend their winning streak to ten games. Now, Texas Tech has allowed fewer than eighteen points in each win during that nine game home streak. So you're looking at a team that's scored fifty-five points per game, and you're going into a place that is average or giving up less than eighteen points in each game of that nine game winning streak, that's a pretty massive difference there, and you're kind of hoping Houston can surpass that. I see this as the first team to twenty four points wins the game. And I think Houston's offense is a lot better than Texas Tex offense. But can Houston's offense score the points on Texas Tex defense? 'cause obviously the offense isn't playing each other. but yeah, I could see this game being like a twenty four twenty one win. And I have Houston win this game. Andrew Wright: Will you go ahead? Will Morris: Yeah, so I don't I don't have a ton to deep dive on here, but like you said, this is this is a massive game in the Big Twelve. especially since Texas Tech looks vulnerable. You know, coming in Andrew Wright: You Will Morris: the season, we were talking about Texas Tech, Miami, and Notre Dame as some of the teams most likely to go undefeated. And I think after the first two weeks, I think several of us said that Texas Tech was probably the one most likely to go undefeated, even though they weren't the best roster or the best team just because of the schedule. But I Andrew Wright: Right. Yep. Will Morris: think because of the level of play that we've seen from Texas Tech so far, I think our outlook on the Big Twelve as a whole and then obviously Texas Tech's individual games has changed dramatically. So now I say all that to say, even though Texas Tech on a national level may not be the most talented roster, they are still definitely the most talented roster in the Big 12. And so because of that, I think playing at home, they're playing it, this is in Lubbock, right? Canon Stogner: Yeah, at eight o'clock. Will Morris: Yeah, it's at eight o'clock, which I don't know why they're doing this on a Friday. Andrew Wright: So, Friday Will Morris: Which is just terri like in Andrew Wright: night, Will Morris: Texas especially is that's just horrendous. it's almost like a mortal sin to them. but anyway, say all that to say, Lubbock is an incredible atmosphere. they they'll be up and ready for this, even though it is on a Friday night. And so I do think that that gets in the edge, so I'll go Texas Tech here. But this is a massive massive game for Texas Tech. And for Houston, you know, if you're if from a Houston perspective, if you are trying to challenge the top of the Big Twelve here, I mean If they win this game, I mean they announce themselves not only on the Big Twelve stage as a contender, but obviously if you contend in in your conference, this is kind of like what I said with Virginia after the week zero. If you contend on the conference level, you are in the playoff conversation. So, you know, Houston wins this game. They all they all of a sudden become a national conversation as in like they might be in the playoffs. Obviously BYU would have something to say about that, possibly a couple other teams in the Big Twelve, but yeah, massive game here in in in in Lubbock. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I want to ask y'all a question. So both teams have played Oregon State this year. Houston won thirty-three to twenty and Texas Tech won thirty-five to twenty-four. All right. So we have seen what both of those teams have done against Oregon State. Let me ask you this. What does Texas Tech like to do on offense? Will Morris: Gotta be it can't can't be throw the ball too much right now. Yeah. Canon Stogner: Yeah, they run the ball a lot. They Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's what I'll Canon Stogner: run the ball a lot. They're averaging a hundred and sixty-four rushing yards a game. Okay. Who cares about the opponent? They're throwing for almost two fifty a game, but we're not really counting that because they beat Abilene Christian 33 to 10. Houston's defense has given up two hundred and sixty one yards a game in their first two games. Two hundred Will Morris: Total. Canon Stogner: per game. Two hundred and sixty one yards. Out of that total, 261, their passing defense has given up 251 of the 61. So we're going, we're looking at a Texas Tech team that loves to run the ball versus a Houston team that's only given up 10 yards per game rushing so far. So defense is a massive, massive part of this game. So Texas Tech, very run heavy versus a Texas Tech defense that has not been able to stop the pass so far. And has apparently been able to stop the run and only given up ten yards a game. Andrew Wright: I was certainly leaning Houston. You just talked me right into it. Yeah, give me Houston I mean they have they have the number eight offense in the country so far this year top in the big 12 average in 562 yards a game Like you just said looks like a Texas Tech defense that can't stop the pass Connor Watkins been playing really really good this year We were kind of having conversations early in the year Like hey, he's got to come out and play well to keep his job with some of the recruits they have behind him And he's done it so far and then for Texas Tech like they haven't been as good as we thought Kind of this was a weird thing for me to see their rank 74th in the country this year in offense But they're 412 yards a game that feels like a really low ranking for that high number Which is crazy as 14th in the big 12 at 412 yards a game That just tells you kind of how crazy the offense has been all across college football But yeah camp that stat gives me kind of everything I need to know about a team that Wants to run the ball that looks like they won't be able to see I'll take Houston. I'll take Houston the point. I'll take Houston just to just Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: score to score too much for Texas Tech to be able to keep up. Will Morris: Have have have either one of y'all heard about the Crowbar theory from Josh Pate? Andrew Wright: Was that on tonight's episode? If not, I haven't listed yet. Will Morris: Okay. Well that the okay, here's the here's the crowbar theory. So the crowbar theory goes something like this. it's something like you know how when you take a crowbar and you can stick it into the bicycle spokes and then the whole thing just you know, obviously the whole thing stops. It looks like it's rolling, but you stick the crowbar in there and one thing causes everything to go off the rails. Okay. That sounds a little bit like what y'all are describing with Houston's defense and Texas Texas running the ball, running offense. Like it seems like, you know, four hundred and twelve yards of offense. Obviously it's not top. They haven't played that good of an opponent. but it is decent, like four and twelve yards of offense, like that's fine. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Will Morris: And they're having to rely on the run. But all of a sudden if you hit that immovable object that is or if you run into somebody with a crowbar, all of a sudden it's you know, it goes off the rails. So, could have the crowbar. Canon Stogner: Yeah. This could be a three to nothing game at halftime and we're s nobody's surprised. Andrew Wright: Yeah, and I think the winner set up really good schedule. was like Houston only has one game against a ranked opponent rest of the season. Texas Tech has none. It's like winner has a lot of room to kind of slip up once, which shouldn't happen if they're as good as they think they are. Shouldn't really lose those games against unranked opponents. Yeah, winners in a really Will Morris: Yeah. Andrew Wright: good spot. Will Morris: Yeah. What's Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: what's the what's the line on this game? Is it Texas Tech by seven and a half? I think it is. That feels like a lot. Andrew Wright: How about that sounds right. Will Morris: I I would probably I would probably take Houston to cover. but Andrew Wright: Yeah, I would. Will Morris: I do I think if it was anything it is seven and a half? Okay. I think Canon Stogner: Seven and a half. Seven and a half. Will Morris: anything above like three I'd probably take Texas Tech to cover. But anything less than a field goal I'd I'd take Houston. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I was gonna say, I know we talked about Keyshawn Henderson, five star quarterback who is in his freshman year with Houston. We talked about before the season, I think a lot of fans are gonna be kind of doing what Texas fans did to Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, wanting to see the five star play. Connor Wygman, out of all the quarterbacks we talked about tonight with Lenores, Comario Taylor, Sam Levitt, Trinidad, Connor Wagman has the highest quarterback rating out of All five of those guys that we've named. He is has a hundred and eighty passer rating. He is twenty nine for forty-two passing. He has thrown for four hundred and twenty-five yards. So that is two hundred and twelve a game. but they're also rushing rushing for three hundred and eight yards per game. So they're lighting it up on offense, and he's only thrown in one interception to his four touchdowns. So Connor Wygman does have a big game this year or this week, but I don't think we're gonna see Keyshawn Henderson anytime soon. Andrew Wright: No, I don't think so either. Canon Stogner: So yeah, very big game. I hate that it is Friday night, but I also love that it is Friday night, so I'll be able to watch it and it gives us it gives us more time for a slate to watch on Saturday. all right, let's jump into not necessarily a big game because of the underwhelming performance they've had over the last couple of years, but this team did beat Alabama last year in Florida State. Florida State and Alabama. So Alabama is 2 0 coming off of wins against East Carolina and Kentucky, where they're averaging 46 and a half points per game. Compared to Florida State, who's one and one beating New Mexico State in a not a very good showing against a lower team, and they lost to SMU last Monday night. I think that Florida State's the team that's the most down and dumps right now over anybody Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: else in the power forward college football. You know, you have you've beaten New Mexico State, but you kind of feel like, okay, if they can beat SMU on what was it, Monday night, Labor Day, right? Will Morris: Mm-hmm. Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: If they can beat SMU, it's like, okay, maybe Mike Norville Norvell is turning the clock a little bit. Will Morris: Little life. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Well, they couldn't even turn the clock because they couldn't turn the lights on. So I just came up with that by the way. Thank you. I appreciate the reaction. they're struggling throwing the ball. Ashton Daniels cannot throw the ball. I just don't understand how some of these quarterbacks come into college and can still not throw a forward pass. so very big game. Keelan Russell has another big game under his belt, which I hate for South Carolina because that's who they play next week, and he's kind of getting these big game experiences before they play South Carolina. so Yeah, not much to say about this game. I imagine Alabama's favored by double digits. Andrew Wright: think it was 20 and a half, yeah. Canon Stogner: Twenty and a half. I'm taking Alabama to win this game. And I'll honestly not gonna put this on my spread, but I'll take they're gonna. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I just I've kind of made it known even the men's go state game like far state was just really uninspiring and then last week like you said SMU tried to give them the game on multiple occasions like here take it we don't want it when Save your head got your job go win and they just couldn't do it. So there's just yeah, no hope there. So yeah Bama probably wins by at least three possessions And this makes it see a little bit hotter for Norville kind of heading into their tough stretch of the season Will Morris: Yeah, I the Alabama's defense was really impressive last week 'cause what Kentucky scored thirteen, Tok? Seventeen. Okay. But one of those w Canon Stogner: Seventeen. They just scored in the second half. Will Morris: yeah, one of those touchdowns was a defensive touchdown 'cause it threw a pick sick and the pick six, yeah, pick six and Andrew Wright: Pick six, Canon Stogner: Yeah. Well and then he fumbled too, like on their side of the field. Will Morris: Right. Yeah. So I don't know what I don't know how many yards Alabama ended up giving giving up to Kentucky last week, but that second half was very impressive from them. honestly, I I know that Keelan Russell didn't like the stat sheet up, but he did you so obviously he had two or three turnovers in that first half. Just two? Andrew Wright: I think two, yeah. Will Morris: So he had the two turnovers in the first half, and obviously as a true fr or a red shirt freshman, he's just, you know, he hasn't played a lot of games. You come into your first SEC test, it's a road test as well. So he had to go to Lexington, and still finds a way to win. So I think that that speaks a lot about him, unfortunately, kinda like you were saying for next week for South Carolina. there are big things to come for Keelan Russell. We just don't know when they're coming, but I think that that was that was a massive game for him to have mistakes early and to still play well enough. He didn't play great, but he played well enough to put his team in a position to win, and then the defense just took over and they Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Will Morris: ended up running up the score. it was close, obviously, early. Two turnovers would do that to you. But yeah, Keelan Russell looks like he's gonna be the real deal eventually. We'll see when it starts to come to fruition. but Alabama is sneakily, if Keelan Russell can come into form, I know this is kind of getting a little bit off topic, but if Keelan Russell can come into form and that defense really is as good as they showed at the end of last week, man, Alabama can scare some people the SEC this year. I think a lot Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Will Morris: of people thought that they might have but they were just worried about him. weren't sure about the quarterback situation, weren't sure about the team as a whole. Obviously a lot of people are, you know, calling for Kaylin Bohr, but we'll see. It's still early, but the Alabama's looking like they they might have a shot this year. Fully dependent on how Keelan Russell plays the rest of the though. Canon Stogner: Yeah. All right. Let's jump into the biggest ACC game maybe of the year. definitely this weekend. A game that kind of feels like if Louisville were to lose this game versus SMU, then Louisville is probably out of the picture at this point. but you never know with the ACC. I could see a two yeah, Will Morris: Say we found that out last year. Canon Stogner: you can see a two three loss team make it to the championship. So Don't really know, but SMU and Louisville will kick off at 330. SMU is two and Louisville Andrew Wright: Thank Canon Stogner: is one and one with loss to Ole Miss and a win versus Villanova. Louisville has lost both previous ACC meetings with SMU in 2024 and 2025. Taking a look at the offensive stats right now. Not a lot of defense being played against these teams apparently because SMU is averaging 566 Andrew Wright: Thank you. Canon Stogner: yards a game at 42 points. And Louisville is averaging 49 points at 552 yards per game. and Kevin Jennings has been throwing the ball all over the place. He has 767 yards passing and eight touchdowns in two games. Lincoln Kinholz has 640 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. So you're looking at two quarterbacks who take very good care of the ball. You're looking at two quarterbacks who can absolutely threaten you with their legs. a little bit surprising coming from Lincoln Kowinholes, but both of them can run. And Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: honestly, I'm a little surprised to see how well these both of these quarterbacks can throw the ball. so this is a massive game. I am going to pick. Louisville gets this win at home. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I'm kind of like you can and I've been shocked at the way the offenses have looked so far. Like you said, you read off the national stats, they're number two and three in yards per game in the ACC. Somehow, someway, I don't know how this is possible. SMU has the top pass offense in the ACC. And that's with everything that Miami's done. And that's what they're... Canon Stogner: With Isaac Brown. With Isaac Brown. wait, you say SMU relevable? Andrew Wright: SMU has the top passing offense in the ACC. Will Morris: Just me. Canon Stogner: okay, sorry. Andrew Wright: And that's with everything that Darian Mence has done in Miami and... Going for two off has like 10,000 yards already. So yeah, just very very impressive. with the offenses So like I fully expect a track meet and like first to 40 wins like I could very well see another 41 38 kind of like Ole Miss and Louisville was so for me almost feels like this will kind of come down to who gets the ball last to your team down the field and I'll I think I'll have to lean SMU with a little bit more experience quarterback that we talked about thinking key holds after Ole Miss as the first game he had started in over two years So he still doesn't really have that humongous game. Like the game against Ole Miss was a neutral site, so the crowd wasn't as crazy. And this is a home game for him, which really helps. But I will lean with Ole Miss to get the ball back last and have their fifth-year guy lead them down the field and get them a much-needed win with the way their schedule lines up the rest of the year with two games against ranked teams. Will Morris: Yeah, I think Ken, you already touched on this and you touched on it too, do, but this is to me the biggest non Miami ACC game this year. And it's and it's and it's not even close. You know, you're looking at the Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. All right. Canon Stogner: Yeah, a hundred percent. Will Morris: schedule and you see Louisville and SMU, who to me are probably two and three in the AC. Again, we'll find out. Maybe Virginia, maybe somebody else shows up. Duke has actually looked good. They went and got a wouldn't get a win in Illinois Andrew Wright: Yeah. Will Morris: last week. so yeah, massive game here in the ACC. It's kinda like the the Texas Tech Houston game. Over in the Big Twelve, you know, the the at least in our view, it's the right view, the two weaker conferences out of, you know, the power four. I got something on that later, that I wanted to bring up to y'all, but but yeah, big game here. I I actually so at the beginning of the year I picked Louisville to play Miami in the ACC championship. And so because of that, I'm gonna stick with that pick. I haven't really had any reason to move off of that. I do really, really like Keenholse or Kineholse, however you say it. he's been really impressive. I think to me, the way that they did play Ole Miss close, they already have two battle tested wins already. and so because of that, or not or excuse I'm thinking of SMU, but they already have a battle tested win. and so because of that I'm just gonna go ahead and give the whole team the edge here. picked at the beginning of the year, so I'm I'm gonna stick with that pick. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I do think it's interesting that all I've said that Louisville has lost both the last two matchups, matchups against SMU, and I think we all three just picked them. okay. Will Morris: No, he went ask he w he do win asked me. Andrew Wright: I SMU. I want SMU. Yeah. Canon Stogner: Sorry, I missed that. All right. last game that we're talking about is a massive game. Not necessarily that these two teams are threatening the SEC conference or the playoff, but it is Florida's first visit to Auburn and Jordan Hare Stadium since two thousand eleven. So we're talking about like when Tim Tebow and Cam Newton were on the same team, I'm pretty sure. Or maybe that was nine actually. but definitely Andrew Wright: Yeah, nah. Will Morris: Yeah, that's too that's too late for Tim Teba. But Newton Newton was on Canon Stogner: the Urban Meyer days. so and I think Gus Mazon was probably there. Andrew Wright: I guess my ass should have been gussy, I think so. Canon Stogner: So first visit from Florida. to Auburn since 2011. This game is kicking off Saturday night at seven o'clock. Florida is averaging 59 yard 59 points a game and 570 yards. I'm sick and tired of seeing every one of these teams that we've talked about averaging 500 yards per game, Andrew Wright: Ha! Canon Stogner: except except for Clemson. Will Morris: That's I honestly that stat that you threw up, dude, where I don't remember what team it was. I think it was Texas Tech maybe, four hundred and twelve yards a game in the set like in the seventies. That's insane. That Andrew Wright: Yeah Texas Tech, yeah. 74th, yep. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: is insane. I did I didn't realize that. But if you start to think about it, man, you look at those scores and it's been ridiculous this year. Canon Stogner: It is. Andrew Wright: yeah. Canon Stogner: I mean, we're this is the biggest difference we're seeing with the transfer portal to the teams that can't really dig into Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: the transfer portal. anyways, Florida has won two games with a score of sixty-six to twenty-one and fifty-two to three. Auburn is two-no with a win against Baylor that came down to the two-point conversion and a win against Southern Miss 43 to 8. Miss or Auburn is one and at home this year. Florida is throwing for 320 yards and running for 250 yards a game, which I think is pretty important. Just thinking we weren't we didn't really know who's Florida's quarterback was going to be coming into the year. So throwing for 320 yards is impressive. Auburn, I think averaging five hundred and one yards in two games is pretty impressive, especially when they only scored 17 against Baylor. they're throwing for 265 yards a game and running for 237. Pretty big game. Defenses have both been a little bit underwhelming so far. Florida's giving up 303 yards per game to Florida, Atlantic, and Campbell. And Auburn has given up 330 yards a game to Baylor and Southern Miss. I think the winner of this game is going to be which quarterback plays better between Aaron Filo and Byron Brown. but I will say this, this is I love the scheduling by the SEC here. You're throwing two coaches who are the two most hyped up coaches, probably in Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: football history for guys that's never proved anything on the big level. you're throwing both of these guys or at a big team. I guess two lane was pretty impressive. but throwing two guys in their first SEC game against each other is incredible and I love the matchmaking with that. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's that's definitely been like the highlighted for the other week for me so far. It's kind of seeing the kind of back and forth between goalish and some role who good friends from kind of what we can tell. And then you had I believe it was goalers. They told somebody told him to summer also they were friends. He said, not this week. We're not see that's I'm like you. I love the scheduling like their first test. It's against each other. And I think the winner comes out feeling so good about themselves. Like you got to think the coach and both like both these coaches are like This is their job that they chose, they wanted, they've been tasked with leading two teams in the SEC that used to be really, really freaking good back to that point again. The winning coach has to feel really, really good about where he is. And that's my biggest thing coming out of this game is I think Florida's gonna win because just of how high I've been on Florida since the start of this. And just don't, Auburn hasn't impressed me enough this season so far. So I think Florida wins. And for me, they have a humong, we'll get into this next week, surely. But Florida goes to Ole Miss after this week. It's like how can they build if they win like I think they will, how can they build off of that and exactly did they get ahead of themselves? Does some of them think he's bigger than the SEC if he wins this game? So yeah, very exciting for me to see the coaches and kind of see how the winning team moves forward with their season. Will Morris: Yeah, I mean y'all already touched pretty much everything I'd talk I'd talk about here. But you know, you think you go back to the beginning of the season and you look at all of the new coaches that are at big time programs, Florida, Auburn, Olmas, Penn State, LSU, the list goes on. and just seeing how obviously seeing how the teams play in the second test for Auburn, 'cause obviously they got tested in that first week against Baylor, it's to be determined to see how good that Baylor team actually is. you know, it could be that they're just trash and we just don't know it yet. if that's the case, that's not good for Auburn, but let's assume that they're actually decent. But for Florida, obviously this is the first test for them. I think that Florida just out athletes Auburn as a whole, especially that wide receiver room is really good, man. That's that I know there are people who are talking about it, but it probably on a national level, like I think they're probably a little bit underrated. Wilson and then I can't remember the other kid's name. they got some dudes out there. They're smooth, they're big, they're strong, they can break tackles if they need to. So so yeah, I like I like Florida here, even though it's at Jordan Hare. and I think they get a big win. Canon Stogner: All right. Well, we are an hour and four minutes in. We just had a great episode. We are going to give our five spread picks. Will is going to be joining us this week and hopefully for the rest of the season, whether or not he's on the show, we will make sure we get his spread picks. Andrew, go ahead and tell us what the results are right now. Andrew Wright: So through two weeks of me and Cannon here, I am six and four on the season. And with our point system, I have collected eight points. And then Cannon is a game under 500 at four and six. But also with the point system, he has hung around and he has seven points. And it's just one point back. So six and four for Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: me, four and six for Cannon. Will, very glad to have you. Canon Stogner: And we was but we made a decision, we was six and four, right? Yeah, we'll six and four Andrew Wright: Do we say wheel six and four as well? Okay. Canon Stogner: and we'll Will Morris: How are y'all doing the point system? Andrew Wright: So you get a point for getting the spread correct and then you also get a point if the team wins But like me and can actually had this discussion in week one. What game was it? So Auburn in week one Canyon took Auburn to cover the seven and a half. I took Baylor It's like Baylor lost by one obviously Auburn won the game But we didn't give Canyon a point for that because I don't think you can get a point For a win when you didn't cover the spread you have to get like both you have to cover the spread and win to get two points That's how we do it Will Morris: Okay, yeah. So basically it's only if you pick the underdog and then they end up winning. Andrew Wright: Basically, Will Morris: Yeah, okay. Canon Stogner: So how many points do you have, Andrew? Eight? Andrew Wright: I have eight. Canon Stogner: Okay. So Will's six and four. We'll I'm at seven points. Will Morris: Interesting. Canon Stogner: We'll give him eight. all right, I'll throw my first pick out there. And Andrew, I think you have the same one, so we might as well just throw it out together. I am taking Miami is beating weight force by twenty and a half. Well are you joining that or no? Will Morris: no, that's not one I had. I have Duke by nine and a half, but I cannot remember who they're playing. but I'm taking them to cover. If you give me one. Okay, so they're playing Stanford. Yeah, so I got Duke nine and a half. They look good last week going to Illinois and getting a win. another Big Ten team that's kinda let down this year. Not throw another shot at them, but yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna get them to win by by two possessions. Canon Stogner: I love that pick. Nine and a half to beat Stan. Andrew Wright: Kandy, you back up. Canon Stogner: Alright, after this one we gotta say three different ones. Andrew Wright: Alright. Canon Stogner: We should do this now for now on. We should do it kinda like a snake draft. Like you throw your pick out, and then you can't use it again. You know what I'm saying? So we do 15 different games. Andrew Wright: Okay. All right. All right. I like that. Will Morris: All right, so you start. We'll start right now. Go ahead. Andrew Wright: are you ready? Are you ready this week? That means next week. Canon Stogner: all right, I'll do Georgia beats Arkansas twenty four and a half. Andrew Wright: Georgia. I have Georgia as well. Will Morris: all right, I'm I'm d I got a different one. So I got Virginia Tech by three and a half, which I don't love that it's three and a half. but they're playing Maryland. Now it's at Maryland, but I like James Franklin there. He looks like he's got him rolling a little bit, so thank you. It does make Canon Stogner: Hey, that's I love that pick. Hey. All right. Will Morris: me hesitate though, because obviously Vegas knows what they're doing to have that line so low, but I don't know. It seems like I'd I'm rolling with Virginia Tech winning that game. Canon Stogner: Yeah. All right. Throw out your third pick. Will Morris: Mine? Andrew Wright: Here. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Will Morris: Okay, I gotta find who they're playing. But I got I got New Me okay, here it is. So this is this is just too many points for me. It they could blow them out, but I got New Mexico covering twenty two and a half against Oklahoma. So Oklahoma, Andrew Wright: I love it. Will Morris: I think offense just didn't look like they were explosive enough to win by fo basically they gotta win by a three touchdowns and a field goal. New Mexico is two and so they've handled business with the teams that they played. I can't remember who they played their first two weeks, but I think twenty two and a half is too many. Canon Stogner: Alright, question. I know we just said we're gonna do like where you can't pick the same game. Could I say Oklahoma beats New Mexico by twenty two and a half? Andrew Wright: Yes. Yeah. Canon Stogner: Okay. I'm not saying that though, I was just wondering. Andrew Wright: Yeah, we can, yeah, you can pick, you can pick opposite sides of Brad. Canon Stogner: All right. Andrew, you go now. Andrew Wright: I got Florida, minus two and a half against Auburn. Canon Stogner: trying to get those two points. He's trying to get those two points. Andrew Wright: Got to. Canon Stogner: all right, I'm gonna take USC beats Rutgers by 24 and a half. Rutgers is playing at home, but they are 0-2. I'm taking USC 24 and a half. Andrew Wright: Rutgers is the worst team in college football. I'll just put it there. We should be okay. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: Alright, well. Will Morris: Me. All right, I got Vanderbilt. Again, it's another three and a half point spread. don't love that. I have two of on my board here, but Vanderbilt by three and a half against North Carolina State. So I think North Carolina State didn't look good two weeks ago. so yeah, give me give me Vanderbilt. Andrew Wright: Taking the freshman quarterback in his debut, All right, you're taking Jared Curtis in his debut, I hear you now. Will Morris: Do what? Canon Stogner: Yeah. Did that do did their quarter Will Morris: Yeah yeah yeah go ahead. Canon Stogner: did their quarterback get hurt or bench? 'Cause they were losing. They were losing at halftime. Andrew Wright: I don't know. I imagine they haven't played it very well. My fourth Canon Stogner: Yeah. All right. Andrew Wright: pick, I'll take Virginia minus 10 and a half against West Virginia. Will Morris: That's a good one. I'm going say that one. Canon Stogner: What'd you who'd you take? Andrew Wright: Virginia to cover 10 and 1 against West Virginia. Canon Stogner: all right. I got one night game at home for this number three ranked team playing against Michigan State, twenty nine and a half points for Notre Dame. I'm taking Michigan State. Twenty nine and a half points for Notre Dame is a lot. Will Morris: Is it all me now? Andrew Wright: Yep. sorry. Apologize. Canon Stogner: No, it's me. We're snaking it. Andrew threw it out. I don't know why he did that, but it's not not his fault. actually it is on you. I'm not ready. Will Morris: I gotta find so I have I don't like I don't like my fifth one that I have written down. I gotta go find I gotta go find my fifth one. I gotta change it real quick. Canon Stogner: All right, I'm taking I'm taking Andrew Wright: I'm ready. Canon Stogner: Louisville beats SMU one and a half, Louisville's favorite. Will Morris: it's down to one and a half now. Okay, I had it listed. Andrew Wright: Is it love was, love was favored? Canon Stogner: Yeah, Lovel's favorite. Will Morris: Okay. All right. Give me see, I don't like that one either. All right. Give me give me Eastern Michigan. It's twenty four and a half against Wisconsin. They're gonna cover. I didn't like didn't like the way Wisconsin showed up against Notre Dame. Notre Dame's probably got one the best defense in the country, we'll find out but Andrew Wright: And then my last one, have North Carolina plus three and a half against Clemson. Will Morris: You think they w did ji well, we didn't pick the winners from the North Carolina Clemson game. Give me North Carolina. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I'm like Kirk Herstery. I can't pick this game. Andrew Wright: Sorry. Will Morris: Yeah. Andrew Wright: out. Canon Stogner: 'Cause this is a lose lose for me. Will Morris: Should be should be all right. Canon Stogner: I'm taking Colorado upsets northwestern three and a half. Andrew Wright: You taking sex games? Canon Stogner: I have a pi I picked five. Andrew Wright: Miami, Georgia, USC, Michigan State, Louisville. Canon Stogner: As well. Andrew Wright: Yeah, man. Will Morris: Ha ha. Canon Stogner: Well can you take one of my out one of mine out since we picked the same one? Andrew Wright: Which one? Canon Stogner: let's see I had USC twenty four and a half, Georgia twenty and a half. Andrew Wright: Georgia is 24 and half as well and then Miami is 20 and a half. Canon Stogner: Miami's gonna do it. Who's Georgia Andrew Wright: yeah, Canon Stogner: playing? Andrew Wright: Arkansas. Will Morris: Good grief. I forgot about that game. Poor Whoopig. Andrew Wright: George is gonna do it too, boss man. I'm just Canon Stogner: Take Andrew Wright: telling you. Canon Stogner: Take USC out, give me Colorado beating Northwestern. Andrew Wright: What's this, Brad? Canon Stogner: Three and a half northwestern. Will Morris: He's going for that double dip. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I got to. I needed that. It's only we Will Morris: See all my all my close games I took the favorite, so I don't I don't get to double dip on those. Unless the eastern Michigan goes and beats Wisconsin. Canon Stogner: Well no, you get a double you get a double dip, right, Android? Andrew Wright: Yeah, you still get a point to cover it, Canon Stogner: Even on favorite teams? Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's how we've done it. Will Morris: You get a point, but you don't get two points. Andrew Wright: Yeah, you get two. Yeah, that's how we've done it. Canon Stogner: You get two for a win and cover. Andrew Wright: You get two, you get two. Correct, yeah, Will Morris: No, that it Andrew Wright: that's how we set up at beginning of the year. Will Morris: Yeah, but that's how that a cover is just a cover though. Canon Stogner: But you get a point for a cover. Will Morris: If they're f if they're favored, they automatically win. So it's not special if they just if they cover the spread too. you're saying if they don't cover but they win, you still get a point. Canon Stogner: No. Andrew Wright: No, that's that's how that's why I can and didn't get a point for Auburn. Ain't gonna come in here and chat stuff the system morse. Will Morris: Man, I'm lost. I'm not I'm not gonna lie, we're gonna we're gonna Andrew Wright: Listen here Will, if Duke Canon Stogner: Hey, let let's do behind it 'cause I'm confused either. I'm just giving my five every week. Andrew Wright: wins Will Morris: Ha ha. Andrew Wright: 31 to 20 you get two points, aight? Will Morris: Okay. Andrew Wright: If Duke wins 31. Canon Stogner: All right, let me let me ask you three this. Let me ask you or two this. if Florida wins, okay. I was thinking earlier, I was in the shower, I had shower thoughts. I think the winner of Andrew Wright: That Will Morris: That's a problem. Canon Stogner: Mississippi State and South Carolina is ranked next week. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: If Florida wins, do we see both of them ranked or only one of them? 'Cause I think Mississippi Andrew Wright: Good. Canon Stogner: State and South Carolina's like thirty one, thirty two, Florida's like twenty six. Will Morris: Yeah, if Florida wins they'll be ranked. I think. That'd be a road SEC Andrew Wright: Yeah, yeah. Will Morris: win and they'll be three and Either one, if South Carolina or Mississippi Andrew Wright: Florida's 27, South Carolina's. Will Morris: State wins, I think we'll the that winner of that game would be ranked as well. Andrew Wright: Yeah, Florida's 27th, Mississippi State's 32nd, South Carolina's 33rd. Canon Stogner: Who's twenty six? Andrew Wright: Washington. Will Morris: By the way, think about that. I I didn't think about this until I watched the Josh Pate show earlier. So Mississippi coming into the year was probably what, like thirteenth or fourteenth in the SEC this year. I Andrew Wright: Yeah. Will Morris: don't know what Minnesota is in the Big Ten. They're not they're not at the very bottom, so they're not Rutgers. And they just went in there and smote them. So like the thirteenth of the fourteenth best SEC team just went in and handled probably a mid tier Big Ten team. So Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Will Morris: not not saying that you know Just a data point, just a data point to to take into consideration. Canon Stogner: Yeah. it's gonna be a massive, massive game. and Will, if you come down, come see us at the tailgate. It's gonna be electric before we go into that game. If you've never seen Andrew Wright: Y'all be fired up. Canon Stogner: me go into a game, I don't talk to anybody. It's it's that the minute we start that wall from the parking lot of Bruce's lot, thank you, Bruce, love you. Big guy. But the minute I start that wall, Andrew knows I high tail it to the stadium and I don't say a word to anybody. Andrew Wright: well imma call him out imma call him a lot right here thats not true he's had a many conversations walking into the stadium dont Will Morris: Okay. Andrew Wright: act like you go see- Canon Stogner: But I'm not engaged. I'm not just gonna leave you on red, but I'm not engaged. I I'm literally just tunnel vision. You know that. Andrew Wright: We have conversations though. Canon Stogner: Let's I'm let's do a special call. Andrew Wright: Like a phone a friend? Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: What you call it? my god. Canon Stogner: Presley D's. Presley the D man. Will Morris: here we go. Tell me he's live on national YouTube. Canon Stogner: Hey Presley, you're live on the Saturday Slate Podcast. Hey, how are y'all? Can y'all hear all right, they Andrew Wright: Yeah, I can hear him. I thought he was gonna hang up on us. Canon Stogner: can't hear you or they can hear you, but you can't hear them. so obviously I'm going to the game Saturday, and I was telling them that whenever I'm turn make that walk out of Bruce's lot and turn right to go towards the stadium, am I not in tunnel vision and I don't say a word to anybody? I'm locked in. It's all business. There's really not much talking from the whole group. Yeah. Andrew's like, he has conversation all the time. And I'm like, Yeah, I'm not just gonna leave you on red, but I'm not engaged Will Morris: Ha ha. Canon Stogner: in the conversation. Yeah, I mean, goodness you're Yeah. In that sense. Yeah. But I'm locked in and they know I high tell it. I'm never the last one in. I'm always the first one in the line. It's always you turn right and you're thinking about nothing but getting the sand spoon towel and then going to sit down. That's right. That's right. It's just nothing about it's all it's all business after that. It's all about doing your job. Yeah. Yeah, I'm a fierce competitor and you know that. Yeah, you're yeah, you're locked in. You do Andrew Wright: man. Canon Stogner: nothing that doesn't at all. Alright, well thank you for proving me right. And that was your first appearance on the Saturday Slate show and don't think it could have went any better. So thank you. Yeah, honored. Looking forward to Will Morris: that's not his first appearance. He's had a voicemail or two. Canon Stogner: it. you have had a voice memo, but Andrew Wright: Yeah, under an alias. Canon Stogner: doesn't count. Will Morris: Yeah, yeah. Canon Stogner: That wouldn't be. Yeah, actually. It's TICOM Mississippi State. All right, peace. Love you. Andrew Wright: Will I will I'll record our Will I'll record up Will Morris: Yeah. Andrew Wright: walking to the stadium Saturday and show you proof that I'm not wrong I'll record the entire walk. You'll Will Morris: That's that's I was thinking that. Yeah. Just give me just give me a little video. Andrew Wright: never know it. I'll record the entire thing Canon Stogner: What happened? Andrew Wright: I'm gonna record you walking to the Will Morris: See? There you go. Andrew Wright: stadium. We just go see how much you ain't talking. I'm gonna make you talk Canon Stogner: Okay, well now like you're gonna now you're making a point, so I'm definitely not gonna talk to anybody. But you didn't have to, like I'm not putting on a performance or I'm not being performative about it. I'm a dog, like I'll I'll talk to you, I'll Will Morris: gonna be for the it's gonna be for the fans now. You gotta post it post it to the Andrew Wright: That's right. I'm a dog.
