- 0:10Firsten wuib A Madison in the morning, and we have flannel Fest coming up
- 0:15very soon Saturday, November eleventh at the Barrymore Theater. And joining us this
- 0:19morning with flannel Fest as well as to Keep Wisconsin Warm Cool Fund is Eric
- 0:24Challenger. Eric, how you doing this year? I'm doing fantastic. Thank
- 0:28you for having me. I'm always excited and happy to talk with you because
- 0:32it's a fantastic event that you guys put on a few each year to really
- 0:36help out those in need here in Wisconsin. We're going to talk about that
- 0:40in just a moment, but first let's talk about flannel Fests specifically. You've
- 0:44got an amazing lineup of bands this year. It's going to be a fantastic
- 0:48event. Let's talk about kind of getting everybody together and what that experience is
- 0:52going to be like at the Barrymore. Sure. Yeah, this is our
- 0:56ten year anniversary, which is crazy to think we've been doing it that long.
- 1:00But Beth Killy and I local musicians singer songwriter, we started this festival
- 1:06we call flannel Fest, and we just really wanted to find a way to
- 1:08showcase local, regional, sometimes national music and also celebrate helping out our Wisconsin
- 1:18neighbors in need by finding this charity to partner up with to Keep Wisconsin Warm
- 1:23Cool Fund, And it's been an amazing ride so far. It's pretty amazing.
- 1:26You mentioned Beth Killy, your band, The Mascot Theory also going to
- 1:30be performing. Who are some of the other artists that we'll see on the
- 1:34eleven well this year, we're very excited. We've got the Jayhawks, a
- 1:40staple from the alt country scene, and they certainly have been around Madison quite
- 1:45a bit too, I believe they I think they're still based out of Minnesota,
- 1:49maybe Minneapolis, so they're basically regional national talent that we're very excited to
- 1:53have on the bill. And then we've got, like you said, the
- 1:57Mascot Theory in my band, Beth Killy band. And then we've got an
- 2:00amazing artist. Her name is Alison Mahall and she's going to be opening the
- 2:06entire show, so it's going to be a really fun night. What kind
- 2:07of music I guess I'm not all the other names that I'm familiar with Alison,
- 2:12I'm not what type of music is does she do? And how did
- 2:15how did you guys find her? I actually played, so we did a
- 2:21think the mascot theory. We did a duo show up in Appleton, myself
- 2:25and my guitar player. I'm trying to think if it was. I think
- 2:30it was last winter and Alison just happened to be on the bill with us
- 2:35and she played as a duo. She had accompany us who's playing guitar and
- 2:39keys, and it was just really fantastic kind of singer songwriter pop, just
- 2:46a modern, very very talented singer, great arrangements, great songs, and
- 2:52we were just really looking for the perfect opener for the event, and we
- 2:54typically try to find someone that's kind of a duo or a trio, kind
- 2:58of a smaller group to really kick off the event before the big bands kick
- 3:02in. So she was on our radar after playing that show, and I'm
- 3:07very excited to have her. Should be a perfect lineup, a great night.

- 3:20Going to be taking place Saturday, November eleventh at the Barrymore Theater. And
- 3:24let's talk Eric about the Keep Wisconsin Warm Cool Fund. Correct me if I'm
- 3:29you said, you're celebrating ten years. We're talking about ninety thousand dollars raised
- 3:34to help folks here in Wisconsin. Let's talk about that Keep Wisconsin Warm Cool
- 3:38fund, who that benefits, and why this is such an important important thing
- 3:42to be involved with. Sure. Yeah. Originally, when Beth and I
- 3:46started this festival, flanel Fest, we decided we wanted to work with a
- 3:50charity that was local, something Wisconsin based, just that we knew that any
- 3:54of the money that we were raising was going to go right to Wisconsin Ights,
- 3:58and we obviously loved there's a lot of organizations out there that are really
- 4:01cool and help a lot of people, and maybe a little bit more nationally
- 4:05focused, and we just really wanted someone that was a little more homegrown so
- 4:09that we could literally talk to that they actually would show up to our events,
- 4:14set up a table, be a presence there. Anybody attending can go
- 4:17and talk to them, get some information, and they're just amazing people with
- 4:21great stories and they really want to help out. So when we first started
- 4:27working with them, that was pretty obvious that it was a perfect fit.
- 4:30We really believed in their mission, which reached out to households, folks that
- 4:35really needed assistance in the harsh winter months or the really really hot, hot
- 4:43summer months. So they help out folks like the elderly, our veterans,
- 4:49families with small children. It's just a lot of different people that really just
- 4:53need a hand up, and this organization to keep Wisconsin Warm cool, I
- 4:57Fun really does that. Like you said, we've we've been fortunate enough to
- 5:01raise over ninety thousand dollars over the last ten years, and I think we're
- 5:06going to hit over one hundred this year pretty confidently. So we're very,
- 5:11very excited to be able to help our fellow Wisconsin and who really could use
- 5:15the safety net. Talking this morning with Eric Chalony, of course he is
- 5:17with flannel Fest online Flannelfest dot com. That's Flannelfest dot com. And Eric,
- 5:24you mentioned our veterans, and I know one of the groups you guys
- 5:26partner with is Heat and Housing for Heroes. Let's talk about that organization and
- 5:31just a little bit about I think sometimes people forget that there are those,
- 5:35you know, these people that have that have sacrificed so much that that there
- 5:40is still need from those individuals, and they're often also hard time. I
- 5:44think you've you've mentioned this in the past, oftentimes harder to reach just because
- 5:47of things like pride and other things. That's exactly it. And yeah,
- 5:53veterans especially, it's it's there's a deep pride that goes into serving our country
- 5:59and helping us out, keeping us safe and then coming back and we just
- 6:02don't want them to be forgotten. And if they're not able to because like
- 6:06you said of the pride situation, not able to reach out, we want
- 6:11to make sure that we have an effort to make sure we reach them where
- 6:15they are. And the Heat and Housing for Heroes campaign is part of the
- 6:19Key Wisconsin Warm Cool Fund. It's an effort to make sure that I need
- 6:24a dollars raised on behalf of the Heat and Housing for Heroes campaign goes directly
- 6:29to reaching out to those veterans and making sure that we are not forgetting any
- 6:33of them, that they're all getting the help they need, and that we
- 6:38can show them that respect as well. I think that's a big thing that
- 6:41is that's it's a great thing that you guys are doing with Flannel Fest and
- 6:44a great opportunity for folks, and that's that I think kind of the kind
- 6:47of the big big takeaway here is it's such a it's it's such a great,
- 6:51great organization, such a great opportunity. But also it's not just open
- 6:56open up your wallet and and and make a donation, which is the way
- 7:00folks want to do that. That is awesome, that's really good to do,
- 7:01but there's also the show and there's something fun to do around this as
- 7:06well. A fantastic you mentioned the lineup for flannel Fest. Great music,
- 7:11great chance to get together and again ultimately raise those funds. But I do
- 7:15want to talk about folks. I know a lot of people listening, and
- 7:17of course we get later in the fiscal year, people start looking at that
- 7:21stuff and saying, you know what, I want to make a donation.
- 7:24Obviously, buying tickets is one way to go to the show and enjoy.
- 7:27It's one way, but there's always opportunities for folks who say, maybe I
- 7:30want to give a little bit more, maybe a recurring donation. You guys
- 7:32have opportunities as well for that, don't you. Yes, absolutely, you
- 7:36can go to KWWF dot org and that's the key Wisconsin Warm website KWWF dot
- 7:46org and then on right on that website and main page. There is a
- 7:50donate button and you can go on there and click on that to make an
- 7:54instant donation, and like you said, a monthly recurring one if you like.
- 7:58And that's all super appreciated. Obviously, we are heading into these these
- 8:01winter months and that's gonna be a huge need for a lot of people once
- 8:05once those temperatures start dropping, and again it's gonna be huge. It is
- 8:09and it's it's and people can learn more you mentioned. Of course, the
- 8:13website of course links to it from Flannelfest dot com as well. That's Flannelfest
- 8:16dot com. Tickets on sale now, buy your tickets again. It's gonna
