- 0:01The people have spoken. That's something I don't think I
- 0:04would take a chance out of. In my opinion, 218 strikeouts
- 0:07were a guy who was his third year in the league now.
- 0:11That's a lot of strikeouts. And they're here to deliver.
- 0:15He wants to be on a competitor, period.
- 0:18Bringing you the facts. Jose brings trash man.
- 0:22I fell for that hard. While keeping you up to date.
- 0:26Man, like what a like question mark that is after you leave
- 0:29Cole, you get him out of the game and all of a sudden you
- 0:32don't know what you're going to get on.
- 0:33The other side on all fantasy baseball news.
- 0:36There's a slouch man. He's.
- 0:38Just a a potential he's a. Slug.
- 0:40Dark horse winner of a Cy Young candidate.
- 0:44Welcome to Bourbon Involved. Averaged like 160 strikeouts
- 0:47prior to his breakout year. I don't even call that breakout
- 0:50year. I would call that a career year
- 0:52because I don't think you have another year.
- 0:54We're going to talk about a lot more baseball.
- 0:56This is just the beginning guys. That's right.
- 1:01I'll call a belt in it. All right, man, this is bourbon
- 1:19and Paul, this is man show 46. Can you believe that, man?
- 1:23We're God. And you know what the weird part
- 1:26is? We're we're about, I would say a
- 1:29little past 1/4 into the season now, right?
- 1:33Yeah, about a month and 1/2. So it's it's flying by, man.
- 1:38It is flying by. So this is bourbon and ball.
- 1:41I'm Doug. I'm along here with my lifelong
- 1:44friend over there coming from Clearwater, FL, Mikey V.
- 1:47And we're here bringing you bourbon and ball.
- 1:49Well, why bourbon and ball? Well, we like to sit bourbon.
- 1:52I have my my bourbon glass over here and we like to talk fantasy
- 1:57baseball. We've been doing fantasy
- 1:58baseball now for 20 years. Still don't consider myself an
- 2:01expert. I'm sure Mikey V would tell you
- 2:03the same. But we, we look at trends,
- 2:06right? We're, we're kind of like
- 2:07analysts almost in a way where, you know, we, we like to give
- 2:10advice based off of trends, past year trends maybe two years ago,
- 2:17just trends and how these people, you know, coming up with
- 2:21expectations, you got to put them in check.
- 2:23And we'll be talking a lot about expectations, this show in
- 2:27particular because there are some people coming back from the
- 2:29IL and you are hearing people talk about some huge things and
- 2:35you got to put that into check real quick.
- 2:38So yeah. So we're coming from you from
- 2:40NPR Radio, Patriot Radio, where Roku, we're simulcasted so you
- 2:46can catch the same episode on New England Streaming sports
- 2:49tomorrow from 12:00 to 2:00 because it is a 2 hour show.
- 2:53And yeah, I mean, you know, all that military stuff with Patriot
- 2:57Radio and Military Broadcasting Radio, there is some affiliation
- 2:59there. I myself, I'm a paratrooper in
- 3:02the army. I was.
- 3:04I did over six years jumps on Ireland, Germany, the
- 3:07Netherlands and over a year in Afghanistan, believe it or not.
- 3:13Yeah, my father was in the air first or Vietnam War and my
- 3:17grandfather was paramedic during World War 2.
- 3:19So a lot of ties there as well, Doug.
- 3:22Awesome, man. Well, yeah, so a lot of the like
- 3:25I said, we've been doing this for 20 years.
- 3:26So all the stats we're giving you are from our ESPN head to
- 3:30head points league. So it's a points league, it's a
- 3:32weekly league. But if you're a top ten, top 15
- 3:37player in a points league, chances are you are a top 10 or
- 3:40top 15 player in a in any format, whether it be roto or
- 3:43whatnot. So yeah, we're going to talk
- 3:47about some of the better players this week, some of the not so
- 3:50better players this week and just go with the flow.
- 3:55So you want to just jump right in and and take it around, take
- 3:59it around the league. I mean, why not hear the?
- 4:04Music man there. There are a couple good things
- 4:08on here. We'll record our little bit
- 4:09because. Of.
- 4:11Injury, I mean, I feel every week I feel like the injury list
- 4:14is just crazy. Same thing last.
- 4:17Year too. I remember that last year we had
- 4:19a just a string of and especially early on too.
- 4:22It happened early on as well. So last week, Ranger starting
- 4:26pitcher Jacob the Grom became, well, let me show you the stat
- 4:30right here because I know everybody's going to say he
- 4:33became the fastest pitcher ever to 1700 strikeouts.
- 4:38He's 36 years old, 36 years old, man.
- 4:44I mean, if he could only have stayed healthy, he would be a
- 4:48slam dunk Hall of Famer without a doubt.
- 4:51I mean, when he's healthy, he's a fantasy stud.
- 4:54He would be a slam dunk Hall of Famer.
- 4:57However, he's not 87 wins, he's got 58 losses.
- 5:02He's got a crazy 2.5 ERA for his career, right?
- 5:061400 innings pitched, 1700 strikeouts.
- 5:11I mean man, what could have been?
- 5:15I don't know. It's just listen, he's a stunt.
- 5:19I was always at the ground guy. I loved him.
- 5:21He came up with the Mets, they expected big things from him and
- 5:25he delivered, but he didn't deliver nearly as consistent as
- 5:29he should have. Well, I mean, I shouldn't say as
- 5:31he should have, but as everybody expected him to.
- 5:35So he's still kicking, he's still strong, he's still
- 5:40pitching good. We're going to be talking about
- 5:42him later on in the show. For fantasy aspect, he's still
- 5:45very relevant being 36 years old.
- 5:48But yeah man, 1700 strikeouts, the fastest player ever, but
- 5:53he's 36 years old, man. What do you think about that?
- 5:57He was always a stud man. He, he had his chance, you know,
- 6:00in New York when he was playing the World Series against Kansas
- 6:03City, right? And, you know, they'd lost in
- 6:05that World Series. And, you know, that was really
- 6:07his only chance with New York to win a championship.
- 6:10But from the talent perspective, I mean, wear and tear, obviously
- 6:15always going to come to someone. No one plans their their demise
- 6:18of their career and and the ground for his credit after the
- 6:22last few years recovering from these Tommy John surgeries,
- 6:25these rehabs, and now he's finally pitching and he's
- 6:28looking like he's going to be productive, which he has been.
- 6:31And now that he has this milestone, who knows what can
- 6:34happen with them. He's only 36.
- 6:36You know, we look at Verland and we talk about Max, right?
- 6:39And those guys are in their 40s, but they still have some stuff.
- 6:44Four or five years ago they were still very relevant, not just in
- 6:47fantasy, but just, you know, as front guy rotation dudes.
- 6:52And the Grom, I think he still has a little bit flair left in
- 6:54him and it looks like, and if he stays healthy, who knows, maybe
- 6:572000s in the the realm in the next couple years.
- 7:01And you know, who was the last 3000 strikeout guy?
- 7:05Was that Tom Glavin? Was that Was it really that far
- 7:08back? Or maybe Kershaw down?
- 7:10Maybe Kershaw? Maddox.
- 7:16So, oh, yeah, stairs are too, you know, one of those, you
- 7:19know, but but it's just kind of a rare feat to hit nowadays.
- 7:22And you do have to stay healthy your whole career to do it.
- 7:25And the Grom obviously went through a little bit of a period
- 7:28of time for for injuries. But Doug, you said you were
- 7:31always at the Grom guy all the way up, all the way up when he
- 7:34got called up through through the organization.
- 7:38Always a top pick, you know, in fantasy, right, for second,
- 7:41third rounder, obviously Cy Young winner.
- 7:45Just a just an absolute hammer when you're playing against
- 7:49them. You know, he can absolutely kill
- 7:51you, especially in two start weeks.
- 7:52So yeah, dude, he, he deserves to tip the cat because I mean,
- 7:57he might have been forgotten for a little bit, but he's, he's
- 8:00been found. I will say, I mean, he went
- 8:04pretty late in drafts this year anyways because obviously he's
- 8:08coming back from injury and a lot of people weren't totally
- 8:11sure what to expect. But as we'll talk about later on
- 8:14in the show, I mean, the training wheels are off.
- 8:16This guy's going 7-8 innings. He's still throwing 9697, not as
- 8:21hard as he used to. I mean, he was hitting almost
- 8:22triple digits at some points in his early career.
- 8:25But, you know, I totally agree with you that 2000 strikeouts is
- 8:30a possibility, but when you're looking at 87 wins for a career,
- 8:3587, right, A-25 ERA, that's great. 87 wins.
- 8:41I mean, man, I look at that and I'm like, dude, that's, that's
- 8:46crazy that I mean, he doesn't have a chance, in my opinion,
- 8:50for Hall of Fame at all, no matter what.
- 8:51I mean, he can win 40 games the next three years and still he's
- 8:55not even going to have 150 wins. So it's tough.
- 8:58You know, I would love to have seen him in there.
- 9:00You know, I would have loved to get his jersey and put it on The
- 9:03Cave for sure, but it's just it's yeah, man, if you you know,
- 9:092 Tommy Johns, so you're talking about missing three years right
- 9:12there. It's and then he has some weird
- 9:16freak injuries. I know his hamstring in a lad
- 9:19issue early, early, early in his career.
- 9:21But man, you know, that's it's a shame because if he stayed
- 9:25healthy, you know, it just, it just goes to show you that he,
- 9:30he could have probably had two hundred wins by now.
- 9:32You know what I mean? It just, it just blows my mind.
- 9:37He's got 87 wins, He's got 58 losses.
- 9:39He's got an ERA OF23A25. So you're telling me he could
- 9:44give up two to three runs a game and get a loss, right.
- 9:49He's 87 and 58. Dude, Tony G, we talked about
- 9:54last episode with 16 and one playing for the Dodgers 2 1/2
- 10:00years ago. You go from 16 to 1 and this guy
- 10:02with 87 and 58 that I mean, man, it's it's tough to you know, if
- 10:10if it's just tough because you know, I'm I'm the grand guy.
- 10:14Like you said, he's still going to throw.
- 10:16He's still throwing good. You know, he's still fantasy
- 10:19relevant. Oh yeah, he's going to be great.
- 10:21I think he's still great. We're going to talk about him
- 10:23later on in the show. But man, what could have been if
- 10:26he could have just stayed healthy is is crazy and going
- 10:31on, man, Adam going to give you a first loss in a couple weeks.
- 10:34Don't even worry about that. Adam, you are on fire, brother.
- 10:37Holy Moe. He's.
- 10:39Undefeated in our bourbon league and but in our money in my money
- 10:43league, I'm, I'm like, right, I'm, I'll be 7 to one this this
- 10:46week. So I'm I, it's nice to, to get
- 10:49that. I, I was telling Mike I'm like,
- 10:51it's nice to, to get like a lot of wins early in the season.
- 10:54So at least you know you're going to make the play offs so
- 10:56you're not sweating at the end and you're like, oh man, I got
- 10:58to win. Like if you're 7 and O or, you
- 11:01know, 7:00 and 1:00 or 8:00 and O you started the year, you're
- 11:04like, dude, I'm I'm in like I'm at least guaranteed the ship in
- 11:08the 12 team league. You're like, I'm in.
- 11:13But yeah, it's it's going to be interesting to see that that
- 11:17league and and how it turns out at the end.
- 11:19But yeah, man, I sent some trades around too.
- 11:23I sent Dean a trade today. I don't know if he's going to
- 11:28take it, but I thought it was good.
- 11:29So listen to this. Mikey B right and Adam right.
- 11:35So we I sent him for Josh Naylor, Albies and Luis
- 11:44Castillo. OK.
- 11:49Bryce Hopper and Tony GI don't think it's a horrible trait.
- 12:00I think Tony G is better than than Luis Castillo.
- 12:05Yeah, yeah. And obviously Bryce is better
- 12:10than than Josh Naylor. No, but not by much.
- 12:14But I'm saying he's still on paper, he's better, right?
- 12:18And Alby's is on his bench, so you know, and he's not having a
- 12:22great year. So we'll, you know, But I did
- 12:25send him that. So you're you're trading Josh
- 12:28Naylor. No, I'm trying to get Josh
- 12:30Naylor. OK.
- 12:34OK. So you're trying to get Josh
- 12:35Naylor and you're trading Harper?
- 12:40Harper and Tony G for for Naylor and Alby's who's not having a
- 12:45Goodyear, who we're going to talk about because he's cold,
- 12:48and Luis Castillo. I think you need.
- 12:53I. Think you need a little bit
- 12:54more? I think you need to give up just
- 12:56a little bit more. This.
- 12:58I think Harper. Harper is not the same guy.
- 13:03He's not, but he's like, I feel like the only reason I think,
- 13:08yeah, I see. I mean, Adam says, yeah, I'd
- 13:09take Tony G over Castillo, and I would too, yeah.
- 13:12I agree with that. So and I'd also take Harper over
- 13:15Nailer, but not by much. I would still take Harper over
- 13:18Nailer, not by a lot, right. So I'm thinking maybe since
- 13:22Harper's a little better and Tony GS better than Luis
- 13:27Castille, that's enough to land me L BS in the deal as well.
- 13:33I see. You know I'll.
- 13:35Be I'll be is good though that's a.
- 13:38Bad, bad year. That's.
- 13:39A guy you're you're just kind of buying low on and it's not a bad
- 13:45buy low, but I just I think we know what the ceiling can be or,
- 13:51or you know, yeah, it can be. So I don't know.
- 13:54I think just a little piece. What do you got on your bench?
- 13:58I'll have to look up to be. I don't think he has to be.
- 14:01I did send. Out him a trade and he just
- 14:03declined me and and then, you know, never sent anything back.
- 14:06But I'll have to look and maybe send him something his way,
- 14:08maybe juice it up a little bit. I know he likes to juice.
- 14:12Dude, I was, I was feeling nervous a few weeks ago, but my
- 14:15team's starting to turn around now.
- 14:16Jose Ramirez is hitting the ball.
- 14:18Well, Yeah. I mean, yeah. 2 later.
- 14:22Joe Ryan was in pitching well, he's back in that rotation.
- 14:25George Kirby's on his way back. We're going to talk about him
- 14:28later too. I mean, there's there's a lot of
- 14:30good to talk about for for Trout soldier right now, except for
- 14:34Mike Trout. But but no, I mean, seriously
- 14:40though, Adam's team, I'm going to pull it up real quick just
- 14:42because I mean seven and oh, you know, that's that's nothing to
- 14:46sniff at. You know, and this is the
- 14:48bourbon and ball league here that we are talking.
- 14:51So just real quick, you know, I'm going to run it down real
- 14:54quick. Wilson Contreras, Jonathan
- 14:56Aranda, Jorge Polanco, Isaiah Paraitis, Beau Bouchette,
- 15:03Lawrence Butler, James Wood, Jason Dominguez.
- 15:07And then it gets juicy. That's where Aaron Judge comes
- 15:09in. Now we now we see where the
- 15:11heavy hitter is and he's starting Paz, who's playing
- 15:15pretty good right now too. But I think it's the rotation.
- 15:19He's got Hunter Brown, right? Good.
- 15:21Rotation. You know, Hunter Brown's a stud.
- 15:24Absolute stud. He's got Garrett Crochet.
- 15:28How's he pitching today? Yeah, he's OK.
- 15:29He's OK. He's 2.
- 15:30Two runs in the second or the first I think.
- 15:33Yeah, he's through 5 now. He's good.
- 15:36He kind of made it over the hump, but he's also got Cole
- 15:40Reagan's too, who's starting to the the heat up a little bit,
- 15:44but not about. Him later on too.
- 15:46Yeah, I know we're going to talk about him, but I mean, overall,
- 15:50he's got soda still, you know who's hurt right now?
- 15:53And he's got our friend Bailey over.
- 15:55What a good luck charm that guy is.
- 16:00I ain't over man the over man, no.
- 16:03But we're going to really seriously though, we're going to
- 16:05take down Adam, you know, we can't.
- 16:07We're still playing for bourbon too, you know.
- 16:09Dude, I mean, I, I don't want to tell anybody, but if there was
- 16:11one person I'd want to at least lose to, it would be Adam.
- 16:14I had such a ball with him at the draft because he was, I
- 16:17mean, it's so funny because you, you, we never met any of these
- 16:20guys going into this, this permanent ball draft.
- 16:22And it's I, I'll tell you, man, we really lucked out because
- 16:26they're all a pretty good group of guys, man.
- 16:29They're all pretty good, real friendly, the kind of guys you
- 16:32would want to a 12 man league with, you know?
- 16:35Sincerely too. It's, it's very, very, very
- 16:38lucky that it all kind of worked out for our first year.
- 16:41So hey, it's. Refreshing that there's good
- 16:43people out there, man really is it's.
- 16:45True. So we'll we'll see.
- 16:47I don't know, like I don't know, maybe Adam was like maybe we
- 16:51should make this a yearly thing but turn into a money league.
- 16:56I don't hate it. We'll think about it.
- 16:58I mean, I like, I like playing with all the people and stuff.
- 17:01So, you know, it'd be fun. It'd be fun to think about for
- 17:06sure. I'm in all right.
- 17:08Let's let's move on a little bit with time is of the essence
- 17:11here. OK, I.
- 17:13Only got a couple more. On this around the league,
- 17:15because then a lot is going to be on ILS man, there is a lot.
- 17:19This one should be a quick one though.
- 17:21Arizona, the Diamondbacks. Speaking of Josh and Ellen, the
- 17:25Diamondbacks offense, right, called up their top prospect,
- 17:29shortstop, third baseman Jordan Lawler.
- 17:33He was their number 4 prospect according to MLB.com.
- 17:36Now listen, I mean, his stats for AAA Reno, I mean, got 336,
- 17:41he's got 15 double S6 home runs, 31 ribbies in 37 games this
- 17:47year. So nothing tells me that he
- 17:50shouldn't be called up and given a shot anyways.
- 17:54He's only in four at bats as of yesterday with a strikeout, so
- 17:58no hits. But I still, you know, I think
- 18:01it's tough to break out in that lineup right now because it is,
- 18:04in my opinion, it's a stack lineup.
- 18:05It really is. You know, even I didn't think
- 18:07they'd expect Tawa their their second baseman to to start hit.
- 18:12And then he's been producing at the bottom and you know, so it's
- 18:16it's a fun lineup, a lot of stuff moving around there.
- 18:20I just I don't think he's going to get a ton of bad bats,
- 18:22unfortunately. And that's not, I think when
- 18:25you're calling somebody up, you want to do it like the Red Sox,
- 18:28you know, you want to keep them in like Campbell's in that line
- 18:30up almost every day, right? That's what you want to do.
- 18:33And that's why they're not calling up Roman Anthony right
- 18:35now anyways. I'm sure they will something
- 18:37nothing would tell me otherwise that they wouldn't call him up
- 18:40at least first base or something.
- 18:42But, you know, it's, it's tough to see, you know, you call up a
- 18:47guy and he's been in the the big leagues now for four days, 4-4
- 18:51days and played one game. So I don't know what they're
- 18:54going to do. But obviously I think he's going
- 18:56to be fine. I think he's going to be a stud.
- 18:57Hopefully he hasn't turned into like a Jordan Walker with the
- 19:00Cardinals, but you know. No, I think he's fine.
- 19:04You know, I think there's a reason for the call up too.
- 19:07I don't know if Marte is 100% healthy yet.
- 19:09You know, they gave him the day off Wednesday, they had a day
- 19:12off Thursday anyway, so they gave him a couple days off to go
- 19:17into the weekend. And you're right, there's really
- 19:20not a spot for him right now in that infield.
- 19:22So his at bats are going to maybe not be everyday at bats,
- 19:26but I mean, you look at the numbers like he was doing.
- 19:28I also think he has like 13 stolen bases too down at AAA.
- 19:32So the guy is an overall just hammer, you know, in my opinion,
- 19:37great guy to have on your on your roster.
- 19:40It's just a matter of where he's going to get the playing time.
- 19:43And it's funny you mentioned Christian Campbell too, because
- 19:45going into spring training, he was kind of in a similar boat as
- 19:48well. But now you look at him and he's
- 19:50playing all these different types of positions now just to
- 19:53stay in the field, including now playing first base.
- 19:56He's getting some reps in before games now.
- 19:59So they might even transition from there.
- 20:00We'll see how that works out. But you know.
- 20:04Lawler might be on the same path for all we know.
- 20:06Just to get at bats, You know, there's three outfield spots.
- 20:09I don't think anyone's really cooking out there right now in
- 20:12Arizona. So what happens?
- 20:14You know, he takes some reps in the outfield just to get on the
- 20:16the field and get some at bats or you know, you get ADH spot
- 20:20right there too. There's no one really crushing
- 20:22it there either. Goreal, I think is really their
- 20:24main guy right now. That's DHR, right?
- 20:27So there's not a lot going on in a couple different areas if they
- 20:30do want to move him around the, the the field.
- 20:34So, but I agree, Doug, there's, there's going to be far and few
- 20:37between at bats early on, especially unless someone goes
- 20:40down. But it is what it is.
- 20:43The guy's a stud. He should be a Major League
- 20:45Baseball player and he and he will be an everyday player down
- 20:48the road, just maybe not in the short term.
- 20:51Right. All right.
- 20:54Now, when we started the show, I talked about expectations,
- 20:56right? Well.
- 20:58Yeah, Braves. Outfielder Ronald Cunha, Giorgi,
- 21:01we all know, right, He's coming back.
- 21:04He played in his first game of his rehab stint on Tuesday.
- 21:09Now, man, if you want to talk about people just going wild,
- 21:13here's, I mean, here's what he did in his first game and here's
- 21:18one of his at bats. Guy Homer's in his first, his
- 21:38first game, his rehab game. Good for him.
- 21:42Here's my expectations of him. Let's pump the brakes, right?
- 21:47It's a minor league game. And let's not forget his stats
- 21:51before he got hurt, right? The guy was only hitting 250.
- 21:55He had four home runs, 15 ribbies, 16 stolen bases.
- 21:59That was the only thing that kept him fantasy relevant.
- 22:01And that was in 50 games before he got hurt a year and a half
- 22:04ago. They're not stellar stats like
- 22:09pump the brakes, right? Do I think he's going to jolt
- 22:12that line up? Oh, obviously, right.
- 22:15But I don't I think the expectations that like Braves
- 22:18fans and people that are holding on to all these Braves players
- 22:22in their line up, like I'm I'm assuming their expectations for
- 22:26once he comes back, like everybody's going to perform.
- 22:29It's just not going to happen, man.
- 22:31You look at his stats before he got hurt.
- 22:34Look, I'm not saying it's a bad lineup.
- 22:36I'm just saying it's not as good of a lineup that, you know, that
- 22:40produced those crazy numbers for everybody two years ago where
- 22:42everybody had career years. It's not that lineup.
- 22:45And we're seeing that. We're seeing Austin Riley, who's
- 22:48been struggling ever since that. Alby's struggling ever since
- 22:52that, You know, even Matt Olson. I mean, the only staple in that
- 22:58lineup is is Ozuna. So I listen, I, I think they're
- 23:05going to it's going to help them.
- 23:06They finally just hit 500 on the year as a team.
- 23:09That's good for them. But I just, I think the
- 23:13expectations need to be in check.
- 23:14It's a it was a minor league game, for God's sakes.
- 23:18Let's let's pump the brakes. No, I mean, it's good for him,
- 23:21you know. I mean, you know, coming from
- 23:23rehab and then you play your first game, you hit a home, like
- 23:25that's cool and stuff. You know, from a fantasy
- 23:28perspective, you got to pump the brakes a little bit.
- 23:30It's OK to be excited. You know, you drafted the guy
- 23:32kind of early, you know, probably third, fourth round,
- 23:35fifth round in that ballpark or so you stashed them.
- 23:38You're getting ready for him to come back.
- 23:39And I mean, when you did draft him, you probably did have a
- 23:42high expectation for him to come back and kind of be like that
- 23:45guy he was a few years ago. But the reality is that Braves
- 23:49team's just not the same kind of going week in week out with it.
- 23:52But it they're just not, I'm looking at their their record
- 23:55right now. They're 500 team in the last 10
- 23:58games. It's not like they turned it on
- 23:59or off. They're six and four and they're
- 24:02they're down right now to the Sox, I think 2 nothing.
- 24:04So there's there's not a lot of good going on.
- 24:09What's that? They're beating the Sox 2
- 24:11Nothing. Oh, they're beating the Sox 2
- 24:14Nothing. That's right, Crochet game up
- 24:15their runs. So OK, so maybe they'll be 7 and
- 24:194 the the the last, you know, 11.
- 24:22But it's not like they're playing that hot.
- 24:24There's not a lot to look forward to there.
- 24:26They still need pitching, I think, in my opinion, and that
- 24:28rotation, they're not the the killer Braves like we remember
- 24:32him as. So for him to come back and he's
- 24:35not even a clubhouse guy to be realistic too.
- 24:37You know, he's not a big Yeah, I, I don't, I don't think he is,
- 24:41he said. That tweet out last year about
- 24:42his, his boss, yeah, as a manager, what's the name being?
- 24:47I mean, like discriminating against him or something like
- 24:50that. Remember that couple years, like
- 24:51a year? And you just apologized for
- 24:54something for this year that he. Apologized for Yeah, there's.
- 24:58Just a lot of noise. I, I just, I don't.
- 25:01And you can't mask it like you just can't.
- 25:03You can't ignore it. It's out there in the world now.
- 25:05And you know, you can say all the right things sometimes, but
- 25:08in reality, it's just a spade's a spade.
- 25:10You got to call for what it is. And it's it's an opinion.
- 25:14You know, that's just my opinion on it.
- 25:15And it's not maybe the the best opinion or the hottest opinion
- 25:19or the most logical. But when I just hear these
- 25:21things, I'm like, you know, I don't even know if this is a
- 25:23great guy you know, to have on your team, whether if he's
- 25:26talented or not. Sometimes you play 162 games.
- 25:29That's a freaking long season, if you ask me.
- 25:32And to have the guy that acts up, you know, periodically gets
- 25:35old real fast, especially, you know, if you're a veteran
- 25:37player, you just don't want to deal with that shit.
- 25:39So, you know, if he comes back, if he's healthy, that's great.
- 25:44But yeah, we're let's, let's hold the brakes because let's be
- 25:48honest, the Braves aren't doing that good this year.
- 25:51No, no, it is what it is. I mean, like I said, he'll bring
- 25:55a jolt, but I don't think it's going to be as big as
- 25:57everybody's anticipating it to be.
- 26:00No. And last but not least, Dodgers
- 26:03starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw is making his season debut
- 26:07Saturday against the Angels. If there was ever a confidence
- 26:10boost team to play, it would be the Angels.
- 26:13I mean, this comes at a time right, where the Dodgers, the
- 26:19Dodgers rotation is just it's in shambles.
- 26:22And we're going to talk about some of that later on.
- 26:25But the guy's 37. His fastball tops out at about
- 26:2988 Again, expectations. I don't know.
- 26:35It's not I don't I don't know how he's going to perform.
- 26:39I have no idea. I don't have a crystal ball.
- 26:42I I don't know. I, I'm hope like I'm hoping
- 26:46let's say he's healthy and they have like from what I heard,
- 26:49he's not going to be limited. I think they're going to just
- 26:52let him run loose for the rest of the year.
- 26:55Obviously I'll probably get hurt, but if they do that, I
- 26:59mean, 10 plus wins is I wish anything more than 10 would be
- 27:02solid. You know, if you can get like a
- 27:043538 ERA, that's solid. You know, I think those would
- 27:10probably be what I'm hoping for. If I own him and I do own him
- 27:14and I did stash him. That's what I'm hoping for.
- 27:18If it happens, I don't know. I don't know.
- 27:19I really have no idea what to expect.
- 27:21He's not throwing hard. He never threw hard anyways.
- 27:23His fastball was only 9293, you know, it wasn't, wasn't like
- 27:27crazy hard. He really got his strikeouts
- 27:30almost like Greg Maddox, you know, just switching speeds and
- 27:34hitting location. And that's what he did.
- 27:36So I don't think, you know, yeah, 88 in today's day and age
- 27:41is not a fastball. But I mean, if your speeds are
- 27:45different and you weren't throwing hard to begin with, is
- 27:48it really that much of a difference?
- 27:50You know what I mean? It's fair.
- 27:53It's fair. You know, if I had to make a
- 27:55projection on them, I would maybe match them up with what
- 27:58kind of Verlander's doing right now in in San Francisco, which
- 28:03is, you know, not doing too hot. And I think Hershaw is going to
- 28:07be more of a a matchups guy, if anything.
- 28:09And I know you said ten wins, but you know, from the last
- 28:12previous seasons that we saw Hershaw, he still needs to go 5
- 28:16innings to get the the win and they might let him loose, which
- 28:21is cool. You know, I, I like the, the
- 28:22sound of that, but I got to temper my expectations here
- 28:25because, you know, that's not a really, that doesn't mean he's
- 28:30going to just, you know, throw 200 innings and just go at it,
- 28:33you know what I mean? But I guess it's just like he's
- 28:35going to, they're going to let him do what he wants to do.
- 28:38It sounds like he feels good. He's going to go out there and
- 28:41he's going to stay out there as long as he can until he can't.
- 28:45And 88's a little concerning, like you said, Greg Maddox,
- 28:48dude, he was a stud. He he knew how to make it work,
- 28:50especially late in his career, right?
- 28:52And it's just a different game, though.
- 28:55And that's what I'm a little nervous about with Kershaw is
- 28:58how he's going to adjust. And you're right.
- 29:01He he has that that Big 12 to 6 curveball and he's got that
- 29:05nasty splitter that goes into that dirt, which is sick.
- 29:09And if he brings all that back to his peak, he might be just
- 29:13fine. And he's what, 37 now?
- 29:19You know, he's only a year older than the Grom.
- 29:21I just think there's so much wear and tear on Kershaw.
- 29:23He just seems older and he's been in the league for so long.
- 29:27But I think it's part of that. I'd like to have him on my team.
- 29:31He's Kershaw. I'm a fan.
- 29:33It's hard to. I don't want to knock him ever
- 29:35because he's just kind of in that GOAT category for me.
- 29:39I think he's a clear cut Hall of Famer.
- 29:43I I think he's just so good. And I'm so glad you stayed in
- 29:47with LA too, his whole career. There is some question if he was
- 29:50going to do that or not. And he he did it.
- 29:53He he stuck it out. And I think that's so unique.
- 29:56You don't see a lot of that as much as you used to.
- 30:01So it's it's cool. So yeah, let's let's go Kershaw,
- 30:05let's go. I'm open.
- 30:07I'm. Not expecting the world, but he
- 30:10like he that offense is just so good.
- 30:12They're going to give him wins if he it gives up four runs.
- 30:15You know what I mean? I mean, God, like 16 yesterday.
- 30:18So I you know, nothing tells me otherwise.
- 30:21So that's always a positive. That's what was missing from
- 30:24degrom. If degrom had that type of
- 30:26offense behind him, I mean, God that you're looking at another,
- 30:29you know, you could probably have almost 100 wins, which is a
- 30:33little different, but you know, he's only got 85 S the.
- 30:37Whole team you play for sometimes, you know, King Felix
- 30:40with the same headaches. You know, Seattle never never
- 30:43made a playoff, never made a playoff.
- 30:45So that means he only pitched regular season games and they
- 30:48didn't even win enough games to make the playoffs.
- 30:49That tells me he didn't get enough wins.
- 30:52He was such a stud. I mean, remember peak Jake
- 30:55Peavey? He wasn't getting a lot of wins
- 30:57either, you know. He got the way he got.
- 31:01At least he got a ring with him with the socks.
- 31:03He did, you know, But when he was with the Padres, I mean,
- 31:06that Padre's team was not very good.
- 31:09And he was the just, he was just the bright star that was out of
- 31:13it. I I think the ZRA was like, at
- 31:15one point a sub, a sub, two maybe.
- 31:18And I think the only end of the season with like 10 or 11 wins,
- 31:22it was, it was like bonkers. Yeah.
- 31:26It's it's crazy. All.
- 31:29Right. So let's let's just dive right
- 31:32into the locker, man. The hurt locker.
- 31:45sometimes. So there are 10 people on this
- 31:48list because it is a massive list.
- 31:50Again, just like last week, we can try to break this down a
- 31:56little. We can go 1 by 1 if you want.
- 31:59I mean, you know, for the sake of time, maybe some would be a
- 32:02more important than others to talk about.
- 32:06So I'll just start out with Arizona DH second baseman Quito
- 32:10Marte. We already talked about him.
- 32:12He is day-to-day. He's got that hip injury.
- 32:14I think he's in the he should be in the lineup today.
- 32:17But I I think it's safe to say where he's hit that stage where
- 32:20he kind of is become an injury prone.
- 32:21He's older, but when he's out there, he's producing, right?
- 32:26I mean, overall for the years, 262, he's got 5 homers, 8
- 32:30ribbies, 14 runs, no stolen bases, 65 at bats and just, you
- 32:36know, 11 strikeouts, 57 total points, 2.9 a start.
- 32:41And his last seven games he hit you five home runs.
- 32:43So, you know, you hate to see him get hurt at this time
- 32:46because he it looked like he was really starting to find a
- 32:48groove. But I still think he's one of
- 32:51the best second baseman when he's healthy.
- 32:54He's just older. And of course, that means the
- 32:58injury bug bites a little harder.
- 33:01Yeah, you don't want to be holding that bag sometimes.
- 33:03And we we talked about Kendall Marte a lot because he was in my
- 33:06keeper league for one with you, Doug.
- 33:08And it was discussion if I was going to keep him or not.
- 33:11You know, what was going to be the plan with him.
- 33:12And he was so good last year, like you said, like top second
- 33:17baseman pretty much in the whole league.
- 33:19That's really tough to find. And especially this year too,
- 33:21it's not like anyone's there's not, there's not a lot of guys
- 33:24smashing at that second base. So he is so good when he is
- 33:28healthy. So hey, keep your expectations
- 33:31realistic though, right? You know he's going to get hurt.
- 33:34You got to start everyone he plays and you might, you know,
- 33:38ball some to injuries during the week and you got to miss a
- 33:40couple games here and there and you hope that doesn't happen.
- 33:44You don't plan for injuries, but you just have to be ready for
- 33:47him. So if you do have Kento Marte,
- 33:49maybe go pick up like a lawyer right now if he's still
- 33:52available and you'll be just to stash him.
- 33:54He'll probably be playing second base when he's not playing
- 33:56second base. So he'll get that eligibility
- 33:59sooner than later. If he, you know, happens to have
- 34:02this hip injury go a little bit longer.
- 34:05But you when you want to have just a security blanket just to
- 34:07make sure because like you said, these guys that are injury prone
- 34:10now a little bit older at second base or maybe just not
- 34:13producing, right. You know, I'm talking about
- 34:15Altuve, I'm talking about Simeon.
- 34:17You know, just make sure you have an exit strategy.
- 34:20Yeah, very good point. All right, Red Sox started
- 34:24pitcher 10 Hulk. He's on the 15 day IL.
- 34:28He's got a right flexor pronator strain should be back by the end
- 34:34of the month, but he has looked so lost since his breakout year
- 34:39last year. I wouldn't even call it breakout
- 34:40year the first half of the year last year.
- 34:44So I do have his last year numbers, his current year
- 34:47numbers, he's Owen three. He's got 43 in his pitch, 32
- 34:50strikeouts, 17 blocks and 8 ERA. 13 points or 1.6 a start, 13
- 34:59points. So here.
- 35:02So he was drafting pretty high because last year, 9 and 10,
- 35:08right, 178 innings, pitch, 154 strikeouts, but a 312 ERA.
- 35:14Pretty good, right? Really low.
- 35:16However, compared to his first half of that year, those numbers
- 35:21don't look so hot. So up to the All Star break, he
- 35:24was seven and six. He pitched 117 innings, he had
- 35:28112 strikeouts and he had a 25 ERA.
- 35:34So you go from 7:00 to 6:00 to 9:00 to 10:00 and his ERA, I
- 35:39think the second-half was over 4 and he kind of carried that into
- 35:43this year. And he actually became here's a
- 35:46here's a fun stat. He is there.
- 35:50There have only been two games in the entirety of Major League
- 35:53Baseball history where in a pitcher when exactly 2 1/3
- 35:57inning allowed exactly 12 base runners and surrendered exactly
- 36:0411 earned runs. 11 earned runs. Both of them are Tenehawk.
- 36:10Both of them this season. Look at that.
- 36:13That is a disgusting stat. That is that is tough man.
- 36:18If you're a fantasy owner and you you drafted him, you didn't
- 36:21draft him early, you drafted him later on, but still you the
- 36:24expectation is he'd be decent, right?
- 36:29Dude, he's lost. He is lost.
- 36:31He even admitted he was lost. So you know, when somebody
- 36:36somebody does that, I don't it's I don't know.
- 36:39It's when they lose faith in themselves.
- 36:41That's not a good sign. That's a terrible sign.
- 36:45That's a terrible sign. That's like that's like Alec
- 36:49Manoa terrible sign. Like that is you don't want to
- 36:52hear anyone ever say that about their their skill in their
- 36:56craft. I mean what, you know, I didn't
- 37:00mean to to mention Alec Manoa like that, but I mean, what a
- 37:03comparison that is, huh? Alec Manoa, right before he went
- 37:07downhill, started the All Star game, you know, very similar,
- 37:12very, very similar. And you know, if you look at the
- 37:16ages, they're probably about roughly the same age too, give
- 37:19or take. So, yeah, awful for Tana Hulk,
- 37:23awful for the Red Sox right now, especially when you had Walker
- 37:27Buehler on the IL for as long as he has been right now.
- 37:31And you know, Giolito is, is kind of, you know, up and down
- 37:35right now. So you don't have a lot of
- 37:37stability right there. So Tanneholk coming off last
- 37:40year, especially the first half, just you thought he was hoping
- 37:44to repeat some of that and he just never came back.
- 37:47And it's just, it's tough to see.
- 37:49You don't want to to see that in a guy.
- 37:51But man, it's, it's just bad. So maybe they're going to take
- 37:55this IL stint, maybe extend it a little bit longer, get a couple
- 37:59extra starts down in AAA when he is ready and healthy, but maybe
- 38:04even just work on a couple things, you know, So if you do
- 38:07have him on your team, I do think he is just droppable at
- 38:10this point because you can't trust him for one, when he does
- 38:13come back. And for two, I don't think he's
- 38:16coming back immediately once he is ready and healthy.
- 38:19I think he's going to have a couple extra starts down there.
- 38:22But on the flip side of that, though, good news is Walker
- 38:25Buehler's coming back and he is skipping his rehab start.
- 38:29So he's going to rejoin the rotation immediately on Tuesday,
- 38:33which lines them up as A2 starter.
- 38:36So it's it's, I don't think I those.
- 38:39Are tough match ups though. I don't think I would start
- 38:41them. I I don't think I would even at
- 38:432 start. I think it's the Mets and then
- 38:46the weekend is it was a little bit more favorable, but you
- 38:51know, it's kind of a risque 2 start if you ask me, especially
- 38:56with New York. NY is a very good baseball team,
- 38:59so I'm not messing with them at all, especially for a guy coming
- 39:04back from injury. But yeah, you know, back to San
- 39:06Hawk, though. Just just terrible to see.
- 39:08Terrible to see. Yeah, I mean, I don't know,
- 39:13there's only so much you can say.
- 39:14I mean, we're going to talk about him later on because he
- 39:16obviously made our who's who's not hot list.
- 39:20So we'll we'll probably discuss that a little more.
- 39:23Cubs outfielder Ian Hat, he is on the 10 day IL.
- 39:26He's got a left oblique strain, but he should be back again
- 39:29later this month. He was having a really good
- 39:32year. He's like a sneaky, I don't know
- 39:34what it is. It's like you someone drafts Ian
- 39:37Hat, you laugh, but then he produces because he's still
- 39:40pretty decent and he's even that lineup is just even better
- 39:43because because Tucker's in it. I mean, God, guys, 269.
- 39:47He's only got three home runs, 19 ribbies, 29 runs, two stolen
- 39:51bases. He's got 35 strikeouts at 160 at
- 39:54bats, 105 points or, you know, just give you 2.7 a start.
- 40:00So anything over about 2223 is actually, you know, decent,
- 40:03really decent. It's above that.
- 40:04So he's just a sneaky, I don't know, it's just like you laugh
- 40:09when people have them, but then when you get them and you're
- 40:11just like, wow, he's actually pretty decent.
- 40:13I'll field it. He.
- 40:15Does this like every year? I feel every year he kind of
- 40:18just sneaks up on everyone. But really if you draft them and
- 40:21you started week to week, you're getting pretty good production
- 40:24out of them. Obviously a tough bat to lose.
- 40:26If you have the Cubs, as good as they've been playing lately,
- 40:30they've they've kind of cooled off a little bit, but they're
- 40:32still a very, very good baseball competitive team.
- 40:36Definitely going to probably be a front runner in the NL
- 40:38Central. So hopefully in hat comes back
- 40:40sooner than later. Oblique strains are really
- 40:42tough. We talked about that before.
- 40:44You know, that's not just an injury that you just spent 10
- 40:46days resting and you come back immediately.
- 40:49That's, you know, a little bit more legwork to that.
- 40:52So he's going to have to work on a couple things before coming
- 40:54back, maybe a rehab assignment depending on how long he's gone
- 40:58for. So it's going to be, you know, a
- 41:03little bit, but they're they're saying, you know, by the end of
- 41:06the month he should be back. I'd be very surprised.
- 41:09I'd be very surprised if he is back.
- 41:11But you have him on your team. Obviously you just IL him like
- 41:14Doug just said, he's actually sneaky productive in a in a
- 41:18position where you have multiple of them, whether if you have 3
- 41:21outfielders, I gotta leave, that has five outfielders, which
- 41:24makes him very, very more valuable.
- 41:26So just that's just the hold, right?
- 41:28We like to hold here sometimes in the fantasy worlds and that's
- 41:32one of them. You do.
- 41:33Exactly this, this next person we could, we could probably just
- 41:37zoom through real quick because he he, he did start today.
- 41:41Reds outfield, TJ Friedel. He had the bone bruise on his
- 41:44right wrist. Actually, he had a really bad
- 41:46day. I think this was Tuesday and I
- 41:49had the videos of how bad his day was, which I will play to
- 41:51you shortly. But he's been he's also been
- 41:53very productive as well. You know he's giving you 2
- 41:57points, 6 points a start as an outfield in a points league,
- 41:59which is pretty good, 102 points total.
- 42:03But here's here's how his day started hit.
- 42:08Him, I think Friedle's got first.
- 42:10One more time hit him and. It got. 1st So he gets hit on a
- 42:18wrist and then later on, literally about an inning later.
- 42:23Poke to shallow center, De La Cruz and McClain way out.
- 42:25Friedle and a slide and a bump and the ball pops free.
- 42:29Fire to 2nd is late. So the guy gets hit on his wrist
- 42:35and then he injuries it trying to avoid a collision with Bailey
- 42:38De La Cruz. So I mean, I like Cincinnati.
- 42:42I think they're, I think they're a good story, man.
- 42:46I do. I like everything, you know,
- 42:47they're doing over there. Austin Hayes hit another home
- 42:50run today. He's been having a great year.
- 42:54I I like that that Cincinnati line up is I like, I just like
- 42:58it. It's very unique, isn't it?
- 43:00You know, they got Gavin Lux is having a little bit of
- 43:03resurgence career over there. Not like you know, he's not I'm
- 43:07not telling you to to pick him up, but I'm just saying he is
- 43:10being an actual baseball player in Cincinnati.
- 43:12I think Terry's getting the best out of him there.
- 43:15You know, I think Matt McClain is an interesting story because
- 43:18obviously he got hurt, came back.
- 43:21His batting average is very low, but he hits the ball so hard and
- 43:25he just got some bad luck. So according to the analytics,
- 43:29as the analytics would say, so that guy has a lot of upside too
- 43:33still and and he's got some juice in his bat.
- 43:35That guy could be a 2020 guy long term.
- 43:38You know, if you're in a category league or, or you know,
- 43:41a daily league or some type in a weekly league, sometimes he's a
- 43:45little tougher to trust, but he can still produce at times.
- 43:48You know, I think one game this past week, he just had 10
- 43:51points. I think he had a a home run, a
- 43:53couple of slim bases. So he he can be very, very
- 43:56productive. That team is it's a fun team to
- 43:58watch. I mean, LA De La Cruz is
- 44:01obviously the centerpiece. You know, he he might not be
- 44:04playing as good as he did last year to this point, but he is
- 44:07definitely the star of the team. You can just see it.
- 44:11But yeah, I and and like you said, Austin Hayes been playing
- 44:13really good. I do think they're just one
- 44:15piece away from really being a true contender in that division.
- 44:19And I don't know if they're going to do it this year or not.
- 44:21They. Are man, they need an ace.
- 44:24Yep, you know hunter Green's been fantastic, but we know he's
- 44:27injury prone as well and and we saw it across the league so far
- 44:30this year. So many injuries, especially
- 44:32pitchers. So it never hurts to to load up
- 44:35on on guys. So I wouldn't be surprised if
- 44:37they're very active during the trade deadline to add a a
- 44:40quality arm. You know, they went out got
- 44:42Brady Singer, which was affordable for them.
- 44:45You know, they they are mid market team, low market team.
- 44:48So you got to play, you know, the back card sometimes, but you
- 44:53know, if they're trying to make with what the best they can get.
- 44:55So they went out and got Gavin Lux.
- 44:57They said Jonathan India, you still got value.
- 44:59We're going to get you for a pitcher to stabilize their
- 45:01rotation a little bit. They just had so many question
- 45:03marks. But I do think they need another
- 45:06bat and I do think they need another pitcher.
- 45:11Yeah, but it's, I mean, they're they're they're beating their
- 45:15projections for sure. And they're, they're fun to
- 45:17watch. So, you know, I I I feel like
- 45:21you got a really good deal if you're owning, you know, a
- 45:23couple of those starters on your fantasy team.
- 45:25Anyways, next one should be pretty straightforward.
- 45:30So I can just breeze through this one just for the sake time.
- 45:34Tigers starting pitcher Casey Miz.
- 45:36We already talked about him. He I think he was day-to-day
- 45:38last week. He actually got placed on the
- 45:4015th day out. He's got that left hamstring
- 45:42strain. He's looking late May, early
- 45:46June return. Great year, right?
- 45:486 and 142 2/3 and pitch 35 strikeouts, nine walks at 25
- 45:53ERA. He's giving you 16.2 points
- 45:56every time he takes the mount and you start him in a points
- 45:58league. Total 113 points.
- 46:02So looks like he's finally put it together.
- 46:07Yeah, I'm that's a fun team to watch too.
- 46:10Not going to lie to you. There's still a couple pieces
- 46:12away in my opinion. I think Jack Flaherty, we said
- 46:14before the year started, Jack Flaherty is not the answer and
- 46:18he is not, I mean still. Not.
- 46:21The answer, this one we could spend some time with because
- 46:28it's just fun to not fun, but it it's good to talk about this
- 46:32one. So Dodger's newly acquired
- 46:34starting pitcher Rokie Sasaki, when he landed on the 15 DIL
- 46:39with a right shoulder impingement, they're saying he
- 46:42could take a while. And that's what Dave Roberts
- 46:44quoted as saying he's shut down from throwing.
- 46:48His numbers are nowhere near what anybody suspected.
- 46:52And This is why not only signing a player from overseas, but
- 46:57drafting a player that early is. So it's tough to evaluate.
- 47:02And that's why I was trying to I I try to stay away from it.
- 47:04I think I always, I think before, you know, the drafts
- 47:08happened, I said like, you know, probably want to stay away from
- 47:11him, but it is what it is. He's one in 134 1/3 innings
- 47:16pitched, 24 strikeouts, 20, two walks, a 470 RA, 32 total
- 47:23points, 4.1 a start and put that in the retrospect, Otani gives
- 47:28you 4.1 a start and that's every day.
- 47:33So again, something we talked about going in the drafts and
- 47:36that just really, I mean, look at the rotation now, right?
- 47:42So this needs to get updated a little bit, but you're really
- 47:46Tony GS coming back so you can take that X out of there.
- 47:50But then Rokie Szaki's hurt so you can cross his name off.
- 47:54So it's a one for one. I don't.
- 47:59I don't know what to expect, man.
- 48:03Yeah, man, it is tough, tough, tough, tough for Sazaki.
- 48:08I mean, he never really got a going at all right from the
- 48:12gecko. They really kind of just forced
- 48:13them in there. It felt, look, he was young.
- 48:18What's he, 2324 years old? Yeah.
- 48:22He'll he'll be fine long term. And I think especially like
- 48:27that, I think it was like the second or third game, he was
- 48:29kind of getting emotional in that dugout.
- 48:31You know, he was frustrated and he could tell he wants to do
- 48:34good and, and be good. And, you know, he thought the
- 48:37transition was probably going to be a little easier coming here.
- 48:39And, and in reality, it's, it's very, very different over here
- 48:44in the states. So he's fine.
- 48:47I don't think there's a rush to bring him back either.
- 48:49I know there's a lot of cross cross outs here, but I don't
- 48:54think there's a rush to bring a kid like this back into a, a
- 48:59rotation where I feel like he feels overwhelmed.
- 49:01So let him take his time, let him get his rehab in.
- 49:05This is a great time to really just kind of build him back up
- 49:11mentally and physically. So from a fantasy perspective,
- 49:17though, honestly, Doug, it's a drop, right?
- 49:21This is, this is a hard drop right now.
- 49:23And it's, I know it's not an easy, but that's why I call it a
- 49:25hard drop because you don't know when he's going to be back.
- 49:29It's going to be a while. He's going to go through his
- 49:31rehab assignment and you know how long it takes to to build up
- 49:36again. So if he is dashed for later in
- 49:39the season, maybe. But I mean, if you got the IL
- 49:42spot, that's fine. If you got like, you know, only
- 49:45one or two spots and you already got one or two guys in there,
- 49:48you're going to have to make a decision.
- 49:50But I think honestly, he's looking on the outside in just
- 49:53because for now he hasn't produced anything.
- 49:55Like you said, 20, two walks. That's a lot of walks.
- 50:00You can't do that and then win fantasy baseball matchups.
- 50:04So again, it's a hard pill to swallow, but that's a drop for
- 50:08me right now. So what are what are they going
- 50:12to do? Maybe Bobby Miller gets called
- 50:13up again. I haven't really been checking
- 50:15his stats out in in AAA since he's been demoted, but they do
- 50:18need some help short term before Kershaw comes back this weekend.
- 50:23I know Snell's on a throwing program right now.
- 50:26He started throwing again, which is good to see.
- 50:29And he is, you know, and, and both those guys, you know, snow
- 50:34and glass now they're weeks away and that's if everything goes
- 50:39right. And that's a big question mark
- 50:40for both those guys. So maybe Bobby Miller's a short
- 50:43term solution for the Dodgers. I don't know if they're going to
- 50:48go out externally. They usually do at times.
- 50:51They've been doing pretty well with the opener.
- 50:53I was, I was looking that up earlier today and they've been
- 50:56pretty decent with the opener. So they may continue to do that
- 50:59for a, you know, a start or two during the week and and take it
- 51:03from there. But yeah, Suzaki, in my eyes,
- 51:06you know, it's unfortunate because it's, you know, we root
- 51:08for everyone on this show. But that's a drop in my book.
- 51:14I would be hesitant to drop them just because I feel like if you
- 51:17do own them, which I do not, but if you do, you probably invested
- 51:21a pretty decent pick on them and you don't want to cut ties with
- 51:26somebody this early that you wasted an early pick on not yet
- 51:30anyways. I I would stand pat.
- 51:32I would bench him obviously, and just or IL him if you have the
- 51:35spot and not bench him and and just see what happens.
- 51:40Just just see what happens. You know, I, I wouldn't, I
- 51:42wouldn't do anything more. And even when he's come, when
- 51:45he's back and he's healthy, you know?
- 51:48Just. Not start him until you know.
- 51:50Give him two or three starts and see how he does and if you're
- 51:53like, OK, well, I think maybe he's found his groove now.
- 51:56You know the time off help them, then you start them.
- 51:59But I don't think I don't think I would drop him right now.
- 52:02I would understand why people would.
- 52:04I mean, he's done give you nothing.
- 52:06He gave you you can find better pictures off the free agent
- 52:09list. But just because you wasted such
- 52:12a I'm pretty sure he went at least in the top 10 rounds,
- 52:16right. So you're not going to just.
- 52:19Drop them. I don't think, but I could
- 52:21understand why you'd want to for sure and.
- 52:25That's fair. Like you said, there's, there's
- 52:26draft capital that you put into someone and there is some value
- 52:30to that. I, I guess just to play devil's
- 52:33advocate because I do think that's a really good point.
- 52:37But to play devil's advocate, we're 1/4 of the way through the
- 52:39season. You know, we just talked to me,
- 52:41just said earlier in the show, we're we're deep into the season
- 52:44right now and the expectation of him coming back is, is I'm
- 52:50looking at probably at least two months.
- 52:51I'm looking at probably at least after the All Star break, right?
- 52:54A while tells me, you know, probably two or three weeks of
- 52:58not throwing it all, maybe getting back into a program the
- 53:02week after that or so. You're already 4 weeks in there.
- 53:05You know, you got to build up your counts.
- 53:07And he's 2324 that just had 20, two walks.
- 53:11He's going to have more than one rehab start, unfortunately.
- 53:15So I I think yeah, maybe after the All Star break, that's the
- 53:18guy that's going to be coming back.
- 53:22But I'm still not I'm still probably going to drop them.
- 53:26You know, I don't have them in any of my leagues.
- 53:28Easy for me to say I. Don't either.
- 53:31You know, so like, it's easy for me to just say, oh, just drop
- 53:34them. It's easy.
- 53:35It's never easy to drop a guy that you drafted, like you said,
- 53:377th, 8th, 9th round, you know, top 100 pick.
- 53:42So that's where I it's that's where it gets a little dicey.
- 53:45But again, it's about, you know, what have you done for me
- 53:48lately? Sometimes for me.
- 53:50And there's a big enough sample size now out there that tells
- 53:54me, you know, where you did draft them.
- 53:57It's not even the production. You're even getting so far from
- 54:00it or going to get it. You draft a guy like that,
- 54:03that's like your number 34 guy, 7th, 8th round, give or take.
- 54:09You know, you expect those guys to go 6 innings, 7 innings, you
- 54:12know, get you a quality start, get you a few KS and you know,
- 54:16get you to win. But he hasn't even done that.
- 54:19He hasn't even showed up to be a a start at #3 yet or 4.
- 54:23So it's tough. It's tough.
- 54:26That whole Dodgers rotation. It's one big headache, you ask
- 54:31me. Yeah, and that's why we had said
- 54:34earlier, you know, if you're going to draft one of the
- 54:37alarms, just draft one of them because you know, you start, you
- 54:41know, stocking up on those guys, they're all injury prone.
- 54:45And I mean even Yamamoto, I mean, don't forget last year he
- 54:48missed a couple, you know, three months, three or four months
- 54:51missed a while too with his injury.
- 54:54So it is very injury prone. The the entire rotation is at
- 54:58this point. Everybody's been on the IL last
- 55:00year or this year. So you know, I don't know.
- 55:03I still stand pat, but I like I said, I would totally understand
- 55:06why you would want to drop them. All right, let me so we still
- 55:13have a bunch more. Let me go down.
- 55:16Let me go down these next two real quick because we and then
- 55:20we'll discuss the third one. All right, so the next step
- 55:24would be Pirates shortstop outfield O'Neill Cruz.
- 55:28Excuse me? He's day-to-day.
- 55:29He's got that back injury. He's actually been out of that
- 55:32line up for four days now. He's having a pretty good year,
- 55:34you know, 238, eight home runs, 18 ribbies, 23 runs, sixteen
- 55:38stolen bases, 47 strikeouts, 47115 points.
- 55:45He's giving you a 3.1 to start in points leagues.
- 55:48Listen, these numbers tell me he KS a lot.
- 55:51He KS over a third of the time. Every 3rd at that he strikes
- 55:54out. Now when he doesn't steal bases
- 55:57to offset that, you'll see a significant decline in his
- 56:00points and his overall numbers in any type of league.
- 56:03Just like LA De La Cruz. He's a poor man's LA De La Cruz.
- 56:08Not a lot of not as much power, but the stolen bases are there.
- 56:16He was. He's ranked 7th for shortstop
- 56:18and O'Neill is 8th, so they are right neck and neck.
- 56:22Next up would be Mariners starting pitcher Bryce Miller.
- 56:26He was day-to-day last week. He got officially moved to the
- 56:2915th day out. He's got a right elbow
- 56:31inflammation. He's going to be joining Logan
- 56:33Gilbert and George Kirby, even though George Kirby will be
- 56:36coming back shortly. Miller should be back by the end
- 56:39of the month they say. Just the minimum.
- 56:42Not really a good year for him either.
- 56:44You know, 2 and 439 innings, 35 strikeouts, 21 walks, God, 5
- 56:51ERA, 31 points, 3.9 a start. I mean, they're, they're not
- 56:55really good numbers. And then this is a guy I kind of
- 56:58wanted to talk about a little more.
- 56:59But we can always go back to some of the ones we just
- 57:01discussed. Texas shortstop Corey Seeger, he
- 57:05is back on the IL for a right hamstring again.
- 57:08It's the same injury this time they say it's going to take
- 57:14longer than the minimum, so they're looking at an early June
- 57:16return. He was having a really Goodyear,
- 57:19you know, 306 home runs, 12 ribbies, 15 runs, no stolen
- 57:23bases, only 18 strikeouts and 100 at bat.
- 57:26So not horrible. 68 points. He's giving you 2.6 a start,
- 57:30which is above average. I think.
- 57:33You know he, here's the thing, he goes off against Detroit,
- 57:36right? He goes three and four.
- 57:38He hits you two home runs, three ribbons.
- 57:39He gives you 16 points in one game and a points that you gave
- 57:43you 16. Then he lays on the IL the next
- 57:45day. If only he could stay healthy.
- 57:49You're talking about someone that you could probably have
- 57:51made a Hall of Fame case. You talk about the Grom and
- 57:54injuries, Corey Seeger and injuries is the same exact
- 57:57thing. Same.
- 58:00Yeah, I mean, if he just if he just stays healthy, he is on the
- 58:03right projectile and he got got called up really young too.
- 58:07Really young. You know how old he is, Doug,
- 58:10he's only 31. He's only 31 years old.
- 58:15I mean, he can he can still potential.
- 58:17You know, we talked about Trout going to the HA lot and this is
- 58:21maybe a little taboo thing to say, but if I wouldn't Corey
- 58:25Seeger, he's such a good pure hitter and he's got power.
- 58:28Like, you know, he does go through a little bit of a
- 58:30strikeout streak sometimes, but it usually evens out better than
- 58:34than worse. This is a guy maybe he's in this
- 58:37point of his career where maybe you consider it like a more of
- 58:41ADH, you know, maybe not full time DH.
- 58:44She's still very like I say, she's still young.
- 58:47He can still play the field. He was a Gold Glover.
- 58:50So I mean, you know, maybe the part time thing now because now
- 58:55he's hurt again. With the same.
- 58:57Hamstring, it's it's just kind of the same story over and over
- 59:01again with them. It's time to cut back a little
- 59:04bit. I think once you hit a certain
- 59:05age, a certain point and when you do have continuous injuries
- 59:07like Trout does and Seeger does, you got to reconsider how you're
- 59:13playing these guys on a day-to-day basis.
- 59:16So Seeger, it sucks because you're right.
- 59:19You know, he is on a, he was on a projectile.
- 59:21He could have been, you know, first Battle Hall of Famer.
- 59:25He still could be a Hall of Famer.
- 59:26He's only 31. I don't want to knock him down
- 59:28yet, but right now he needs to play more baseball games.
- 59:31That's his problem. He doesn't play enough games
- 59:33during the year to be, you know, he he's going to fall into like
- 59:37the David Wrights of the worlds of of, you know, having these
- 59:41really good, you know, Evan Longoria, you know, shout out to
- 59:44Evan for retired dispatch. You know, these guys that just
- 59:49came out of the the gates hot and they were excellent and at
- 59:53one point maybe the best their position.
- 59:55Kyle Seeger. I'm sorry, Kyle.
- 59:57It's his brother Corey Seeger, MVP.
- 1:00:02Right. He had an MVPC.
- 1:00:04So there's a lot, a lot of good. But I do think there's
- 1:00:07eventually a time where you do just have to make a decision on
- 1:00:11someone on how you're playing them every day to make sure you
- 1:00:13get an all of it, not just some of it.
- 1:00:17Yeah, the Bryce Miller thing. It's it is what it is.
- 1:00:19He kind of peeked way too early. If you traded him after the
- 1:00:22first week, good for you, because that was the Max value
- 1:00:26you're going to get out of him. And then O'Neil Cruz, you said
- 1:00:29it, poor man's Ellie De la Cruz. Pretty much same size, same
- 1:00:34build, same same everything, same skill set, except you just
- 1:00:38get a ton of strikeouts with O'Neill Cruz, like so many
- 1:00:43strikeouts, we're talking to like almost 36%, give or take.
- 1:00:48He's not even at 150 at bats and he's got 47.
- 1:00:51Like, what are we talking about here, You know?
- 1:00:56And do you some of these times some guys can get away with it.
- 1:01:00We've seen it in the past, but it's far and few between.
- 1:01:04You know, I'm talking about like Austin Riley a few years ago,
- 1:01:07ton of strikeouts, so many strikeouts, but he had so much
- 1:01:10power and he drove in so many runs and had so many runs where
- 1:01:14he was still a leap at that one year that he had that over 400
- 1:01:19point season. You know, this could be one of
- 1:01:22those outliers this year for O'Neill Cruz, the way he's been
- 1:01:26going playing really good baseball.
- 1:01:28Really it's just a strikeouts. It's just a, you know, a a tell
- 1:01:32sign of how things are going to go long term for you.
- 1:01:35So it sucks, but you just have to call him a spade spade and he
- 1:01:41is one of them. Well, you, it's funny because
- 1:01:44you, you know, you talk about people who strike out and then
- 1:01:47offset those numbers. I mean, De La Cruz last year,
- 1:01:49222 strikeouts, a ton of strikeouts.
- 1:01:54If he didn't see all those bases, he would not I I still
- 1:01:58don't think he was a first or second round in my opinion, but
- 1:02:01you know, some people did and they waste, I don't want to say
- 1:02:04they wasted a pick because he's still producing, but he's ranked
- 1:02:077th, you know, in, in our league anyway.
- 1:02:10So I mean, chances are a lot of those numbers carry over.
- 1:02:13So he's out of the top five, I'd say in almost any format, but
- 1:02:18you know, you, you're wasting a, a pick on a, on somebody in the
- 1:02:21first round. I I don't think I would, I would
- 1:02:25draft them on the first round or keep them, but it's.
- 1:02:29Just no, no, it's it's so far a few between, like you said, you
- 1:02:33know, it's just it's so tough to do that year in, year out.
- 1:02:37You have to focus on the negatives and and work on those
- 1:02:40in the offseason. And I know, I know Ellie has
- 1:02:42he's even spoke about it. He's even said I got to cut down
- 1:02:46on my strikeouts. That's way too many strikeouts.
- 1:02:49So there's some self recognition what he's doing to fix it.
- 1:02:52I don't know what that is. Honestly.
- 1:02:55I haven't even checked his numbers too much recently.
- 1:02:59I know he hasn't had that great every year, so that's probably
- 1:03:01why. But I'm sure the strikeouts are
- 1:03:03there though, if I had to guess. So how do you fix that?
- 1:03:08That's I think the toughest thing.
- 1:03:10You know, they say the toughest thing in sports, whether if it's
- 1:03:12football, baseball, basketball, whatever, hitting a fastball,
- 1:03:15Major League fastball, toughest thing to do in sports, you know,
- 1:03:20you could do it well for a little bit, but man, if you
- 1:03:22can't do it consistently, you're not going to have a good career.
- 1:03:25So yeah, yeah, you, you just you, you can't have strikeouts
- 1:03:30just that's we're part of our 10 commandments.
- 1:03:33We're going to have a 10 commandments thing here probably
- 1:03:36#1. So I got two more and they they
- 1:03:41should. I'll just go over them right
- 1:03:42now. Twins shortstop Carlos Correa
- 1:03:45outfield Byron Buxton are both placed in the concussion
- 1:03:47protocol after colliding Thursday.
- 1:03:50You hate to see it, especially with Buxton playing so well, but
- 1:03:53that's what he does, right? He puts together these great
- 1:03:55weeks and then he just has this weird freak injury that puts him
- 1:03:58on the IL. So Buxton on the year 261.
- 1:04:01Ten home runs, 27 ribbies, 33 runs, eight stolen bases, 56
- 1:04:07strikeouts. Kind of a lot, but was still
- 1:04:10giving you 2.8 points a start. 113 total points.
- 1:04:13Correa 55 points, 1.4 a start. He's a free agent.
- 1:04:18And then this just broke this afternoon.
- 1:04:21Erinola hit the 15 day IL. He had a sprained right ankle.
- 1:04:27Maybe that's the reason why he got shelled yesterday.
- 1:04:31He is not look good I feel like. I think he's only averaging like
- 1:04:343. Almost very similar to
- 1:04:36Tennehawk, 3-4 points a start. He's still throwing hard, He's
- 1:04:42still throwing 9394 like he always has.
- 1:04:44I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's maybe the
- 1:04:46weather I don't like. You know, he had a couple decent
- 1:04:50strings of, you know, 2 pretty one win and one pretty no
- 1:04:53decision that was pretty good. But other than that it's just
- 1:04:57been trash. Complete and utter trash.
- 1:05:04Disappointment. Disappointing.
- 1:05:07So it's a disappointing parent. You watch a guy throw 200 plus
- 1:05:11innings year in, year out, just be Mystic consistent for so
- 1:05:16long, have a year like he's having so far.
- 1:05:18It's just disappointing. No one wants to see it.
- 1:05:21It's not what you planned. It's not what he planned either.
- 1:05:25Maybe it was the ankle. I hope it was the ankle.
- 1:05:28That would make a lot of sense because that was just a
- 1:05:30unorthodox Aaronolis thought that we don't usually see if
- 1:05:33ever. Probably his worst thought of
- 1:05:35his career. So hopefully he has a speedy
- 1:05:37recovery. We'll see how that ankle injury
- 1:05:39turns out and and go from there. Hey, funny story.
- 1:05:44I have a daily league that I do and it's 14 teams.
- 1:05:50You got second base, shortstop, first base, third base, two
- 1:05:56utility spots and five outfielders.
- 1:05:59So you got a lot of spaces to fill.
- 1:06:02Well, I had Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa in the lineup, and
- 1:06:10they both hurt each other and they both got to go into
- 1:06:12concussion protocol immediately. So I got to find some
- 1:06:16replacements real fast. I think I got Alex Burleson on
- 1:06:19on deck. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:06:23And I, I picked up Jorge Polanco like a month ago and he's kind
- 1:06:28of been riding and riding hot. So that's, that's been a nice
- 1:06:31wake up. But yeah, it's kind of funny.
- 1:06:33I had both those guys on my team starting.
- 1:06:36What a highlight to watch. All right, so that pretty much
- 1:06:40all are are going over the the injured list in the hurt locker.
- 1:06:46So let's take a quick break and then we come back for, I mean,
- 1:06:49the bread and butter show here, right?
- 1:06:52The who's hot, who's not, The sell high, the buy lows.
- 1:06:56And of course, we'll discuss last week's sell high and buy
- 1:06:59lows. And I'm going to tell you the
- 1:07:01numbers look good, man. You know, they look pretty good.
- 1:07:04We're going to pat, pat ourselves on the back, but they
- 1:07:06do, and you'll see them. So don't go anywhere.
- 1:07:09It's only going to be about a minute, little over a minute,
- 1:07:12and then we'll come back and we'll dive right in.
- 1:07:14All right. You're going back in.
- 1:07:20There's still men out there, When I go home, people ask me.
- 1:07:35Hey, who? Why'd he do it, man?
- 1:07:39Why? Some kind of war junkie?
- 1:07:43I won't say a goddamn word. Why?
- 1:07:48They. Won't understand.
- 1:07:49They won't understand why we do it.
- 1:07:55They won't understand. It's about the men next to you.
- 1:08:01That's it. That's all it is.
- 1:08:07Find us on the web at MB Radio dot US.
- 1:08:10Want to make it clear that the views expressed by our hosts are
- 1:08:13not considered the official stance of MBR views?
- 1:08:17Remember, this is all about having fun and enjoying the ride
- 1:08:19and. Now the guys you just love to
- 1:08:21hate. They're trash.
- 1:08:22It's, it's, it's a dust fire man.
- 1:08:26It's a man. It's it's not.
- 1:08:29Doug and Mike are back with more bourbon and ball.
- 1:08:33All right, man, we are. Yeah, we're just, we're just
- 1:08:37jumping. All right, so here are this
- 1:08:53week's hottest hitters and pitchers in our points league,
- 1:08:57which translates to pretty much any other league.
- 1:09:00I will read off the first hit. Two hitters.
- 1:09:03We can jump in and dissect them, but they probably should be
- 1:09:06pretty straightforward because these are guys who drafted
- 1:09:08pretty high that were expected to perform and they're
- 1:09:10performing. And then we can do the same with
- 1:09:13the pitchers. So first and foremost, Jose
- 1:09:16Ramirez, Guardians DH third baseman, he's 99.8% owned with,
- 1:09:22which is practically 100% in ESPN leagues here.
- 1:09:25I mean, got 453 home runs, five ribbies, seven runs, four stolen
- 1:09:31bases, 2 strikeouts and 20 at bats.
- 1:09:34He gave you 39 points, 6.5 a start.
- 1:09:37And then Shohei Otani is back. He made the not list and then
- 1:09:43the hot list now. So he is.
- 1:09:46He's on a row. He's.
- 1:09:48Yeah. Although I think Corbin Carroll
- 1:09:50might own that record. So far.
- 1:09:52I think he was on it three times.
- 1:09:55But he's a stud. It's close.
- 1:09:57So yes, Dodgers starting pitcher DHOI Otani, he's again 99.8% Oh,
- 1:10:02which is about 100 percent, 385. Four homers, 12 ribbies, seven
- 1:10:06runs scored, no stolen bases, 5 strikeouts and six more at bats.
- 1:10:10So 26 at bats gave you 39 points 6.5 a start.
- 1:10:15I will say Jose Ramirez hit a home run today too.
- 1:10:19So he is listen, I looked at his numbers earlier today.
- 1:10:25I cannot believe like he he is practically and in my opinion,
- 1:10:31you're looking at someone that could possibly be, you know, a
- 1:10:35400 home or 300 and, you know, plus stolen base guy.
- 1:10:39Like his numbers are great. Not a lot of strikeouts, right?
- 1:10:44His most strikeouts in a year. He had 87.
- 1:10:46I mean, he is, he's good. He is good.
- 1:10:51Yeah. He's, you know, he's in his 30s
- 1:10:52now, early 30s, I want to say with 3132.
- 1:10:55But he produces, man. They give him his time off and
- 1:10:57DH him when he needs it. They're doing it right.
- 1:11:01Yeah, he's just a an animal. You know, we talked about him a
- 1:11:04few weeks ago and we we said he was off to a little bit of a
- 1:11:08slow start, right? And then we compared it to last
- 1:11:11year though, too. We said, OK, well, what do you
- 1:11:13do last year, right. And then we knew last year he
- 1:11:17had that series against the Red Sox at home.
- 1:11:19I remember that double hitter that they had.
- 1:11:21And he had he had a mega day. And then he kind of just never
- 1:11:24looked back from there. And he's kind of just doing the
- 1:11:27same thing again. So good for him.
- 1:11:30Like this guy we talking about Hall of Farmers, French Hall of
- 1:11:33Farmers, not going to be Hall of Farmers.
- 1:11:35I mean, man, if he could just stay at this projectile for a
- 1:11:37few more years, you know, we're going to have a conversation
- 1:11:40about that. That's going to be a legit
- 1:11:42conversation. But he's on the right path.
- 1:11:45And then, you know, Doug and I talked about Otani off air a
- 1:11:48little bit earlier. The guy's a Unicorn.
- 1:11:50Shouldn't say Otani. The guy is just a a stud through
- 1:11:55and through. He had what, 1 bad week?
- 1:11:57But I believe last year he did the same thing as well.
- 1:12:00I think last year he had like just a kind of a poor week, just
- 1:12:04not really with it, and then he came back like a monster like he
- 1:12:08has been. I think this is a second
- 1:12:10straight week on this list as well.
- 1:12:13If I'm not. No, no.
- 1:12:15Am I wrong on that? No, I think it might have been
- 1:12:18the week prior. Week prior, yeah.
- 1:12:21So hey, still 2 out of three weeks and you're the the best
- 1:12:24hitter on on fantasy in our eyes.
- 1:12:26Like, jeez, like you're, you're doing something right.
- 1:12:29So yeah, well, Tawny's just going to be an absolute just
- 1:12:33animal Unicorn, Unicorn guy. As the reason why they're
- 1:12:38saying, you know, these guys are first rounders, I would say
- 1:12:41maybe even top five rounder. You know, in the first, you
- 1:12:46know, you can make the point. Well, you know, Judge, maybe
- 1:12:48before Tawny I, I, I would get it, You know, I mean, Judge is
- 1:12:53right around 400. I mean, he's having a career
- 1:12:55year, you know, but yeah, I mean, you're going with these
- 1:13:00guys and then Jose Ramirez probably would be later on and,
- 1:13:03you know, with your 5th or 6th pick.
- 1:13:05So you're drafting these guys to produce, and that's what they're
- 1:13:08doing, hands down. That's so tough.
- 1:13:11I, I feel like we, we give Jose Ramirez his flowers, but I don't
- 1:13:16know if everyone else gives Jose Ramirez the flowers as well.
- 1:13:20You know, this guy's been a staple inside and out for the
- 1:13:25last like 5-6 years. Doug, like you've had him for a
- 1:13:29few years now. I mean, like we're talking,
- 1:13:31we're talking, you know, for at least four years of consistent
- 1:13:35work that we've been seeing and he continuously still gets
- 1:13:38drafted kind of outside the top five every year.
- 1:13:42You know, people draft Soto, they draft Judge, they draft
- 1:13:45Otani. You know, you mentioned Kyle
- 1:13:47Tucker. So many people want Kyle Tucker
- 1:13:49over hose and meetings Bobby Witt, right?
- 1:13:53Like there are just so many guys that that people want to get on
- 1:13:57top of before they get to the stability guy.
- 1:14:02Which is weird you know, because the guy is so good every year.
- 1:14:07Steals bases, does a straight guy, hits home runs, hits RBIs,
- 1:14:10doesn't matter if his team sucks or not.
- 1:14:12Like the guy is just still producing every single year.
- 1:14:16So no shock he's on this list. We deserve.
- 1:14:20We should break a 2 hour show just of Jose Ramirez one night.
- 1:14:23Well, I gotta say, I mean, he had 41 stolen bases last year.
- 1:14:26He's he's projected to be a 3030 guy at the very least again.
- 1:14:32So like you said, a staple of consistency and I think a lot of
- 1:14:38people are drafted him outside the top five, maybe because
- 1:14:41they're expecting a fall, but it just hasn't happened, you know,
- 1:14:46and honestly, I I feel like when it does, it's not going to be
- 1:14:52hard. You know what I mean?
- 1:14:54I feel you'd be like Goldie, you know, just like, I mean, I would
- 1:14:58not last year's Goldie, but I'm saying like prior, like when you
- 1:15:01went to when he went to Saint Louis, like he just steadily
- 1:15:05like just, you know, that that 320 average you used to see and
- 1:15:08kind of just went to like, you know, 315 and 300 and 280.
- 1:15:13And that's what it will now it's almost 3.
- 1:15:15It's over 350. But like, I feel like it's just
- 1:15:18a graceful decline. And that's what I think would
- 1:15:21you would see with Jose Ramirez. It's it wouldn't be like a kick
- 1:15:24in your face decline where you're like, man, I wish I'd
- 1:15:27never dropped him in the top five.
- 1:15:28It would. It would more.
- 1:15:29It would be more like, yeah, drafted in the top five,
- 1:15:32probably could have waited around.
- 1:15:35Yeah, I mean, the guy doesn't strike out.
- 1:15:37So I mean, if you even have 100 and fortyish strikeouts or so,
- 1:15:45you know, you're saying to yourself, well, that's not
- 1:15:47horrible. You know, it's not a strikeout
- 1:15:49per game. If you do use 600 at bats per
- 1:15:52season, you know, you're under that 30 percentile.
- 1:15:55You want to be much lower than that.
- 1:15:56But you know, anything over that's in trouble.
- 1:16:00And even if Jose Ramirez did that, he's, he's still producing
- 1:16:06from a family perspective. So like you said, the grace is
- 1:16:10going to be there. He's in the age like fine wine,
- 1:16:13like he really is. That's that is the guy that is
- 1:16:17going to probably have an easier farewell tour later in his
- 1:16:21career because he he just, he does it all.
- 1:16:25He he does it all and he does it with grace.
- 1:16:27Yep. Totally agree.
- 1:16:30And that'll bring us to our pitchers.
- 1:16:32Now we talked earlier off air about starting pitching and that
- 1:16:37every year it varies, right? I mean, you're drafting a guy
- 1:16:41that you think he's going to be a top pitcher and he ends up not
- 1:16:43being and then next year he is pitching to me is so
- 1:16:49inconsistent that I don't even think I would draft it early
- 1:16:53anymore. You know, that's actually I
- 1:16:55haven't. That's the one thing I learned
- 1:16:57anyways, is that you could get a good picture.
- 1:16:59And if you look at, you know, when I made this list, I'm going
- 1:17:05to give you the top five pictures.
- 1:17:08So these are the two top 2, but then there's three more.
- 1:17:11So I do have some honorable mentions and look at the
- 1:17:13percentages that they're owned. OK, so let let's just break this
- 1:17:18down first and foremost, right? You got Cardinal Stoney pitcher
- 1:17:21Eric Fetty. He's 11% owned, 11%.
- 1:17:25OK, the guy went one and O2 starts.
- 1:17:29Obviously those numbers are very padded because he pitched a
- 1:17:32complete game. Shut up.
- 1:17:33That was the reason why he's got so many points.
- 1:17:36But 14 2/3 innings totaled, 11 strikeouts, four walks.
- 1:17:41He didn't give up any earn, no earn on both starts.
- 1:17:44So he did get the no decision, give you 47 points, right?
- 1:17:49The complete game shot out came against the Nationals.
- 1:17:52The no decision came against the Phillies, but he only went five.
- 1:17:54So he didn't get a quality start either.
- 1:17:57I can understand. I don't think he's this good.
- 1:17:59I think he just, you know, he just played a Nationals team
- 1:18:01that's kind of just bobbling right now.
- 1:18:04So he got lucky. He's always a contact pitcher,
- 1:18:07as you can see, 11 strikeouts and and you know, almost 15
- 1:18:10innings. So but I think he just got
- 1:18:13lucky. And then this was the guy we
- 1:18:14talked about next, Jacob the ground, you know, 94% owned.
- 1:18:19He went two and O 13 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts, 2 walked
- 1:18:24two, earned 46 total points. And they were actually against
- 1:18:27good teams. He played the Tigers and the
- 1:18:29Astros, so he beat them both. Now here's the honorable
- 1:18:33mentions, right for hitters. Aaron Judge had 33 points.
- 1:18:36Fernando Tatis had 33 points. Now for pitching, Chris Paddock
- 1:18:41of the Twins, who's 5% owned, had almost 45 points.
- 1:18:46Randy Vasquez, the Padres, he's 1.8% owned.
- 1:18:50He gave you 43 points. And then of course, Hunter Brown
- 1:18:54gave you about four, a little over 4040.56.
- 1:18:57But that's just telling you that, you know, it's it's so
- 1:19:03tough to judge pitching. I kind of just stay away from
- 1:19:08it. Maybe the first 3.
- 1:19:09I actually, I did stay. I don't think I drafted pitcher
- 1:19:11until the fourth round, to be honest with you, at least not
- 1:19:14until the Bourbon League. The Bourbon League was the
- 1:19:16fourth round, but in our league, maybe the third.
- 1:19:19But I know I wouldn't hit her, hit her for sure.
- 1:19:22But yeah, man, pitching is you can you can find good pitchers
- 1:19:26on a free agent market depending on how deep your league is.
- 1:19:30Yeah. And.
- 1:19:30It's important, I think to find them early because you got guys
- 1:19:33that kind of go on these like little stretches, right, 3
- 1:19:36inning, you know, three starts, four starts, you know, 6
- 1:19:39innings, you know, quality start.
- 1:19:42They get the win. Maybe they get three out of four
- 1:19:44wins. All of a sudden that point total
- 1:19:46starting to add up and then it comes crashing down and hey,
- 1:19:51Fetty, Fetty Wap here. Great week, but I still think
- 1:19:57eventually he's going to come back down to reality.
- 1:20:00Now last year, you know, he had a a tough team, right?
- 1:20:03He was playing with the White Sox.
- 1:20:04He was pitching quality starts there.
- 1:20:06That's why he did get traded during the trade deadline.
- 1:20:09And you know, that's what you kind of root for when you have a
- 1:20:11guy like this on your team is can you get me 6 innings and can
- 1:20:15you get me the win? This is a guy that he's probably
- 1:20:17a little bit above average pitcher when it comes to that
- 1:20:21and you have to play the matchups and he had good
- 1:20:25matchups from doing these games too.
- 1:20:28So, yeah, great week. And then Jacob degrom again
- 1:20:31talked about Amelia just having a really big resurgence here,
- 1:20:34healthy, looking like he's really healthy.
- 1:20:36I love the 13 innings, 17 strikeouts, 17 and two.
- 1:20:39Love that. And then only two are in runs.
- 1:20:41That's beautiful. That's exactly what you want
- 1:20:44pretty much in your ace. So if he's showing me 17 two
- 1:20:47like that, that's really promising in my eyes.
- 1:20:49I think for a long term, I think degrom, I think his back.
- 1:20:53I think I'm very comfortable saying that at this point now.
- 1:20:56I think we've seen a big enough sample size of him really
- 1:20:58starting to produce again. And man, if you got him, you
- 1:21:03know, I think he went kind of high in drafts actually too.
- 1:21:05I think people kind of reached for him.
- 1:21:07You know, people wanted to to see a healthy degrom back.
- 1:21:10I know he did change his arm slot too.
- 1:21:11So I think that's helping a lot as well.
- 1:21:15But like you mentioned, Doug, you know, I, I'm looking at the
- 1:21:17top pitchers this year so far to date #1 pitcher right now is
- 1:21:22Hunter Brown, absolute stud. I mean, he's got 20 more points
- 1:21:27than the guy in second place. And Max Breed, you know, those
- 1:21:32guys were not top three top 4 rounds.
- 1:21:36You know, those guys were a little bit later.
- 1:21:38So you can find great quality. Great quality.
- 1:21:41Later in drabs, you know, and then you get the Zach Wheelers
- 1:21:43of the world. You know he's going to be up
- 1:21:45there. He's he's kind of, you know, the
- 1:21:47modern day ace. I feel I feel like he's just
- 1:21:49missed it consistent the last few years, especially in Philly.
- 1:21:53Nathan Ivaldi's on this list up here.
- 1:21:55You know, Nate Dogg went late. I'm looking at Robbie Ray.
- 1:22:01Robbie Ray's on this list too. He he wasn't drafted very high.
- 1:22:05So I think he nailed it. I think it's just one of those
- 1:22:07things where you can get value later on in, in other aspects.
- 1:22:12Some places you can't get that later on and that's certain
- 1:22:15positions like we talked about before.
- 1:22:17So pitching is just like you got to have a good eye for it.
- 1:22:20You got to have a good eye for it.
- 1:22:22You got to get the guys early and you got to see if they're
- 1:22:25the real deal or not. Don't pick up like The Beatles
- 1:22:28of, you know, the A's, you know, and think, oh, he's going to be
- 1:22:31my ace, you know, because he pitched, you know, six straight,
- 1:22:34you know, 5 inning wins. It's never going to be the case
- 1:22:37ever. You know, that's why I like to
- 1:22:40target sometimes two guys that are coming back from the IL.
- 1:22:44So I like to look, you know, not just like how many points, you
- 1:22:48know, people are scoring week to week.
- 1:22:49I might go further or maybe all the way down the list depending
- 1:22:52on what the league is and see who's coming back from an injury
- 1:22:55list. Because it's easier to find a
- 1:22:57guy coming back from an injury than maybe trading for a guy
- 1:23:00that maybe is, you know, out of your price range.
- 1:23:04You don't want to really make too many moves like that or
- 1:23:06trades, you know, So like, you know, the Shane Bieber's of the
- 1:23:10world. I know a lot of guys stash Shane
- 1:23:11Bieber, but he might be floating around in a free agency pool
- 1:23:14somewhere. You know, he's going to be
- 1:23:16coming back in about a month or month and 1/2 or so.
- 1:23:20You know, I took the risk. It didn't work out.
- 1:23:22You're going to laugh at me, Doug.
- 1:23:23And one of my deeper, deeper leagues that the that the
- 1:23:26pitcher heavy 14 team league. I did pick up Kyle Gibson
- 1:23:30because he was hurt and you know, Baltimore needed a
- 1:23:35pitcher. He knew he was coming back from
- 1:23:37it, but instead of me trying to train for someone that I don't
- 1:23:41know what I'm going to get on the other end, you know, that's
- 1:23:43the whole point of this conversation, right, Is
- 1:23:45pitching. You just don't know what you're
- 1:23:47going to get. I'd rather just take a flyer on
- 1:23:48a guy that's coming back sometimes and say, hey, maybe
- 1:23:51he's due. Another great guy too.
- 1:23:53Brandon Woodruff, right? He's going to be coming back
- 1:23:56sooner than later. I know he had a little bit of a
- 1:23:57set back, but doesn't sound like it's going to be too serious.
- 1:24:00So he should be coming back pretty soon too.
- 1:24:03So there's some alternative routes that you can take to find
- 1:24:06good quality pitching at times it's just it's they're far Yupi
- 1:24:09queen, but they're there you can find them.
- 1:24:11Yep, I. Totally agree with that.
- 1:24:15All right, let's dive into who's not.
- 1:24:21Oh no. And some of these names we
- 1:24:24talked about earlier, you're going to know, you're going to
- 1:24:27see him. No, no, let me go through with
- 1:24:32the hitters and then we'll do the same thing with the
- 1:24:34pitchers, OK? And we probably should, we
- 1:24:37probably don't need a ton of time on the pitchers just
- 1:24:40because we we're at almost at 13130 point man.
- 1:24:43We're breezing today. But Braves second baseman Ozzy
- 1:24:48Alvis, 95.7% owned hit you 138 no homers, 1 ribby, one run, 5
- 1:24:55strikeouts, 29 at that. So give you a point, a point one
- 1:25:00point all week. And then Mets first baseman Pete
- 1:25:03Alonzo, he's 99.7% owned. He hit you two O 8.
- 1:25:07He gave you 2 ribbies, 2 runs, no stolen bases, no home runs.
- 1:25:11Gave you 10 strikeouts and 24 at bats.
- 1:25:14He gave you 2 points. Some honorable mentions O'Neill
- 1:25:17Cruz gave you one. Trey Turner, Lawrence, Lawrence
- 1:25:20Butler, Jared Duran, Matt Olson, they all gave you 3.
- 1:25:25So again, you know, we talked about Alby's having a bad year
- 1:25:30down year. The jolt that you think Hakuna
- 1:25:35will bring into that lineup I don't think will be as strong as
- 1:25:37everybody thinks it is. And Pete Alonso, unfortunately,
- 1:25:42you know, I know he's still having a great year.
- 1:25:45I know he's I think he's still number one first baseman, but
- 1:25:51that's what he does, man. He strikes out a lot.
- 1:25:54And he wasn't doing it at the beginning of the year that much.
- 1:25:56And, you know, again, that's what Soto brings to that line
- 1:25:58up. But now it's kind of like
- 1:26:02pitchers are learning how to, you know, go through that line
- 1:26:08up with Soto in it now. And I think they know who to
- 1:26:12attack, when to attack. So I, I think he just needs to
- 1:26:15make some kind of adjustment. I think because they're going
- 1:26:18right after him now, like they're not really messing
- 1:26:21around or, or playing around. I think it's just, you know,
- 1:26:25we'll walk Soto and then now we'll just go after Pete Alonzo
- 1:26:29and 10 strikeouts and 24 at bats is is not a good thing to to
- 1:26:33have, especially in a points league.
- 1:26:36Yeah, I mean. You.
- 1:26:38Know, I think I I said it before quarter way through the season,
- 1:26:42the sample size out there now and I think pitchers are just
- 1:26:46adjusting to Pete Alonzo at this point and now Pete needs to
- 1:26:50adjust to them now. So I think he's just a little
- 1:26:54behind on that. I think he's a great player.
- 1:26:56I think he's going to be just fine.
- 1:26:58Obviously a tough week for him with the strikeouts as well.
- 1:27:01And he he does tend to strike out.
- 1:27:02You know, that's, that is part of his game.
- 1:27:04So it's not a surprise there by any means.
- 1:27:07But yeah, I think that's what it is.
- 1:27:09I just think pitchers are catching up to him.
- 1:27:11He just needs to catch up to that.
- 1:27:13They're Ozzy Albees, you know, he, he just kind of, he's still
- 1:27:17a very good baseball player. I don't want to take anything
- 1:27:19away from Ozzy Albees. I, I think there's some recovery
- 1:27:23left with him in this line up. I just think it's too good of a
- 1:27:26line up. Still, even when Hakuna comes
- 1:27:29back, I just, I just think where he hits in the line up and he,
- 1:27:33he's going to I, I have faith. I don't know why, no reason.
- 1:27:38I have no facts. I just think I'd rather take I'd
- 1:27:41rather take a risk on Albees than like Marcus Simeon at this
- 1:27:44point. Because you know, I think for
- 1:27:47one, if you don't have either of those guys, I think it's easy to
- 1:27:50get Albees than Simeon because like you said, Doug earlier, the
- 1:27:53draft capital does matter to people still in some aspects.
- 1:27:57And if you draft the Marcus Simeon, you draft them some semi
- 1:28:00high because for one second base tough position to fill last
- 1:28:04couple years in Texas, you've been fantastic.
- 1:28:06And you know, if you miss out on, you know, pretty much him or
- 1:28:11Marte, you're kind of seeing the rest of the the group, right?
- 1:28:15You're you're seeing, you know, the Albies, the Altuve's and and
- 1:28:18etcetera. So if you miss out, it's just
- 1:28:20kind of what it is. So people reach out for those
- 1:28:22guys. So there is some value still
- 1:28:24left in those people's eyes, even though I think now you're
- 1:28:27quarter way through the season, you just got to call, call for
- 1:28:30what it is. And then you got to you got to
- 1:28:32make a decision. So like I'm saying, if you have
- 1:28:34Marco Simeon make a move, but that's not about Marcus Simeon.
- 1:28:38We're talking about Alby's. You know, you mentioned the the
- 1:28:42the trade off for the Dean. You're trying to buy low on
- 1:28:45Alby's right now. So I think you I think you got
- 1:28:49some value on him as well that there's some potential still
- 1:28:51there and you can get him at an affordable price.
- 1:28:55And I think that's the storyline right there.
- 1:28:57So if you need second base help, you know, this could be
- 1:29:01potentially a buy low guy with almost a little asterisk next to
- 1:29:06it saying, you know, nothing's guaranteed buying low on a guy
- 1:29:11like this. It's a it's still a risk, but
- 1:29:14you know, there's some some potential there.
- 1:29:17Does that make sense? No, I kind of.
- 1:29:20Rambled there for a minute. Yeah.
- 1:29:21And and, but and we'll talk about that when you're the the
- 1:29:25buy low candidates later on. He's not in it, but there is a,
- 1:29:29a point where you're like, OK, well, if I'm taking a chance on
- 1:29:32this guy, like, who am I going to give up?
- 1:29:34You know, am I paying for his potential or am I paying for how
- 1:29:38he's playing right now? And that's the tough part about
- 1:29:41trades. You know, it's all about how
- 1:29:44people value their hitters. You know, I mean, Sean, in our
- 1:29:46league, he, he wants the world for his guys.
- 1:29:50But in my opinion, some of those guys just aren't worth it.
- 1:29:53You know, I think what do you do?
- 1:29:54He asked me for Logan Webb and Stephen Quan, for Pete, for, you
- 1:29:57know, Pete Crow Armstrong. Logan Webb's a top five pitcher.
- 1:30:02He's got more point. He's got, he's like 2.
- 1:30:04Well, he's pitching today, but he's only two points behind
- 1:30:06Yamamoto, so and he's playing the A's.
- 1:30:10So which is a very winnable line lineup match up for him anyways.
- 1:30:15So in my opinion, he'll get more points in Yamamoto.
- 1:30:17But you know, you're telling me you want a top five pitcher and
- 1:30:22a A a guy who's averaging like 2.82 point 9A star and Stephen
- 1:30:28Kwan who's hitting, you know, over 300.
- 1:30:30I want to say like 3-10, three, 20 Pete Crow Armstrong, who
- 1:30:34yeah, he's he's he's great. I just don't think it's
- 1:30:37sustainable. So I'm not going to give that
- 1:30:39up. Now if you want to trade me, you
- 1:30:44know, if you want Logan Webb, I told them why not try?
- 1:30:47I'll give you you give me Mookie.
- 1:30:48I'll give you Logan Webb, obviously, I mean, points wise,
- 1:30:53they're both very similar, both have the same one, almost the
- 1:30:56same amount of points. But you know, he values those
- 1:31:00people way higher than I think they should.
- 1:31:03But that's the that's the difficulty of buying low on on
- 1:31:06players. And it is my my thing with that.
- 1:31:12I think that's a very fair trade, by the way, I I think I
- 1:31:14like I really like that trade a lot LED for for Mookie Betts.
- 1:31:18I think you're getting a obviously a sled bat for a sled
- 1:31:21pitcher. That's what you're getting right
- 1:31:22there. But when I look at the points,
- 1:31:25you know, between batters and pitchers, pitchers are way more
- 1:31:30valuable in in a Lee like hours. There's more guys in pitching
- 1:31:36that can get you more points than hitters from what I'm
- 1:31:39looking at right now from a point standpoint.
- 1:31:41So you got to pay for pitching. Is this the bottom line?
- 1:31:46You have to pay for pitching. If you're going to try to go out
- 1:31:49and get a guy like a Logan Webb or Yamamoto or a Paul Skeens or
- 1:31:54something, you're going to have to pay top dollar because
- 1:31:58there's still, there's still stuff that carries with that.
- 1:32:01There's still a lot of valuable. What am I trying to say here?
- 1:32:08I'm, I'm trying to say pretty much pitchers of kings still.
- 1:32:14They're still kings. I I see, I see about 10 pitchers
- 1:32:20that have over 150 points on this and I'm looking at batters
- 1:32:23and I see only about 5-6. So, and then in the list is
- 1:32:29there's more one 40s. There's a lot of one 40s on here
- 1:32:31for pitchers too. So this is more valuable in
- 1:32:35pitchers. So they have a guy like Sean try
- 1:32:39to rear end you like that, you know, like, you know, you know
- 1:32:45what, you know what he did. You know what he did?
- 1:32:47Like he overplayed his hands with PCA.
- 1:32:50He overplayed. It's it's, it's you're trying to
- 1:32:53sell a guy high. I respect it.
- 1:32:55You know, that's what we all try to do.
- 1:32:57But when you do it like he does, you can't, you can't expect
- 1:33:02people to be running at the door, you know, because you
- 1:33:05already saw a couple trades that we already made in this league.
- 1:33:08And I think people are a little bit more skeptical trying to
- 1:33:10make a deal now with Sean. Yeah, of course.
- 1:33:14All right, let me just run through these pitchers.
- 1:33:16I don't think we really have enough time to talk about them.
- 1:33:19We're we're past that mark. But let me just run through them
- 1:33:22anyways. Tanner Hawk, he's only 28% on.
- 1:33:26He was in the mid 90s to start the year again.
- 1:33:30He had a rough week. O1, 1/2 and 1/3 innings, no K3,
- 1:33:34walk, 11 in -14.88 points. That was the answer.
- 1:33:38Tigers Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola, who was 98% owned,
- 1:33:43is now only 85.7. He went O and 2/8 and 2/3 inning
- 1:33:477K3 walk 13 and gave you a -11.84 points.
- 1:33:53Those came against the Guardians and the Cardinals honorable
- 1:33:56mention Bryce Miller -6 Jack flirty -4.5 and Nick pavetta -4
- 1:34:03so and we, we talked, we could beat the drum.
- 1:34:06We talked about Aaron Nolan antenna hawk earlier.
- 1:34:10So, you know, it's, it's a shame to see him, but I don't know.
- 1:34:17It is what it is. Hey.
- 1:34:18Nick, Nick Pivoter coming back down from grace, huh?
- 1:34:22Yep, it happens. It happens.
- 1:34:26All right, so let's let's just dive in man.
- 1:34:31Let's talk about some sell high buy low type candidates.
- 1:34:34Picro Armstrong should probably be in there, but I'm not going
- 1:34:38to I'm not going to list them on there just because all right, so
- 1:34:48we'll do one by one right. So this is somebody I think you
- 1:34:51should sell high. He is.
- 1:34:54I think he had two hits so far today.
- 1:34:56He's 2 for three. I think his average is up to
- 1:34:58350. I think you know who he is and
- 1:35:02and his ESPN picture isn't even in his new uniform.
- 1:35:06There he is right now. Great week.
- 1:35:10Hit you 375. Two home runs, six runs, five
- 1:35:14ribbies, a stolen base, 3 strikeouts and 24 at bats gave
- 1:35:18you 29 points. 4.8 a start. The season 346.
- 1:35:22Five home runs, 22 reviews, 27 runs, three stolen bases, 30
- 1:35:27strikeouts at 162 at that. 119 points.
- 1:35:32Excuse me, 2.8 a start. He is a top five first baseman.
- 1:35:37This is a guy that you drafted as a bench player, you drafted,
- 1:35:41you took a flyer on him, you drafted him outside the top 15,
- 1:35:44top 20 rounds of your draft. He's a top five first baseman.
- 1:35:49I feel he'll probably be solid all year.
- 1:35:51So although I say sell high, I think he he'll remain high for
- 1:35:56the year. Do I think he'll finish it in
- 1:35:57350? I don't think so, but he's on a
- 1:36:01roll. He might not be as good as he is
- 1:36:04right now, but he'll still, in my opinion, he has a good chance
- 1:36:07to finish in the top 10. First baseman without a doubt.
- 1:36:11I say so high because we've seen enough of him to know he's for
- 1:36:13real this year, and because we've seen enough of him to know
- 1:36:17that he is real. That tells me the return you can
- 1:36:20get for him should be pretty substantial considering again,
- 1:36:23you drafted him really, really late in drafts.
- 1:36:26And 1st baseman is a tough position to fill in fantasy as
- 1:36:29far as consistency goes. IE Bryce Harper, who probably
- 1:36:32went 13 rounds, 15 rounds before him and is just in outside the
- 1:36:39is he, I think he might be like 6 or 7.
- 1:36:41I think Goldie might have more points than him.
- 1:36:43But again, based off where you got, some people probably could
- 1:36:48have drafted him, like got him off the free agency.
- 1:36:49That's how much people like wrote off wrote him off.
- 1:36:52But he's been hitting the ball well.
- 1:36:54And on top of that, I mean, Cody Ballinger is turning it around.
- 1:36:57He had a couple more hits again today.
- 1:37:00So it's a great line up. I say you he was a bench guy
- 1:37:04when you drafted him. Trade him.
- 1:37:06I wouldn't care if you if you held on to him, but if you do
- 1:37:10need a position or a starting pitcher he should give you back
- 1:37:15way more than what where you got him.
- 1:37:19Yeah, I mean, you know, the other thing with Paul Goldschmid
- 1:37:22is too, is that I'd never seen Paul Goldschmidt during a season
- 1:37:26take like a big dip, right? When he when he's not Paul
- 1:37:30Goldschmidt like we saw last year, right?
- 1:37:33He just never really got it going at all at any point.
- 1:37:36There was never a peak where he was hitting 350 for a couple
- 1:37:40weeks and hitting a couple home runs, right?
- 1:37:42We never saw that for him last year.
- 1:37:45And even when he was in Arizona, we never saw him go through like
- 1:37:48these ridiculous streaks of just bad baseball.
- 1:37:52So the fact that he's playing so good baseball now, I don't
- 1:37:56expect him to go crazy far down when he does, because like you
- 1:37:59said, the, the, the average is probably not sustainable.
- 1:38:02I I don't expect him to sustain that, but I do expect maybe like
- 1:38:07a three 10320 average. I think that's very fair and
- 1:38:11doable for a guy like Paul Goldsmith.
- 1:38:13We're not just talking about a guy that's just getting older
- 1:38:16and just kind of making the rounds.
- 1:38:17We're talking about a guy that's a two time MVP.
- 1:38:20We're talking about a guy that plays legit good first base.
- 1:38:24He plays a Gold Glove first base.
- 1:38:27He's a little bit older. I think he found the new, like a
- 1:38:31new home in New York, the way he's been playing.
- 1:38:34And he's he's loving every minute of it.
- 1:38:36I think he loves playing with Aaron Judge.
- 1:38:38I think he that's a big appeal for him.
- 1:38:41And yeah, you can sell him high, but you can argue pretty hard
- 1:38:46that you can just hold on to him because, like you said, you got
- 1:38:49great value on him. And maybe you drafted someone
- 1:38:52else that first base that you thought was going to be a first
- 1:38:54baseman. And now you're like, yeah, you
- 1:38:57know, maybe I can move that guy instead because maybe he has a
- 1:38:59little bit more value there still, too.
- 1:39:03Yeah, I, I had a league where I drafted Christian Walker and I
- 1:39:06drafted Paul Goldschmidt. And I I play Goldschmidt every
- 1:39:10week. It's not even a question at this
- 1:39:12point. You know, as much as I like to
- 1:39:14play Christian Walker, he just hasn't been cutting it either.
- 1:39:18You know, a lot of strikeouts, not a lot of walks, just hasn't
- 1:39:21really put it together yet there in Houston.
- 1:39:23But man, that was my security blanket was Paul Goldschmidt.
- 1:39:27You know, and especially in a category league where average is
- 1:39:29a big, big thing, you know, RB is home runs and he's checking
- 1:39:34the boxes right now. Even the stolen bases, getting a
- 1:39:36couple stolen bases here. That's that's the old Paul
- 1:39:39Goldschmidt that we used to watch back in his MVP days.
- 1:39:43So man, just it's awesome to see, awesome to see.
- 1:39:47Sean did write in the chat because he said I offered Blanco
- 1:39:50and Jose Ramirez for Pedro Alvarez and Otani, which in my
- 1:39:54opinion would probably be a great trade because you can't
- 1:39:56keep Otani. You could still keep Jose
- 1:39:59Ramirez. However, I don't like Pedro
- 1:40:01Alvarez. I don't really think I ever
- 1:40:02offered that trade. And I actually really like
- 1:40:05Blanco, the starting pitcher for Houston.
- 1:40:06So I don't know if I would do all that but.
- 1:40:09Jordan, Jordan Alvarez. No, I don't like Pedro Alvarez.
- 1:40:14No, but I did. I did offer him Otani and I know
- 1:40:17Jose Ramirez is in it. But now that I'm thinking about
- 1:40:19it, I'm like, man, Jose Ramirez for Otani straight up might even
- 1:40:23be a fair deal if you think about it, because you can keep
- 1:40:26Jose Ramirez for another year, but I can't keep Otani.
- 1:40:29So that keeper thing aspect really does drive up value.
- 1:40:34You know, you're getting a top five player, you can keep him
- 1:40:37for another year as opposed to, yeah, you're getting the best
- 1:40:39player in baseball, but it's a rental.
- 1:40:42You're not going to have him next year.
- 1:40:43Chances are you're not going to draft him next year.
- 1:40:45He's not going to be there for you, but that's a fair.
- 1:40:49Yeah. So just to go over last week,
- 1:40:52some of our sell highs that had really good weeks ended up not
- 1:40:56having good weeks. Matt Chapman gave you 4 points.
- 1:40:58Austin Riley gave you 9. Brian Wu had a had a pretty good
- 1:41:01start against the Yankees. I think he gave you 14 points.
- 1:41:05That was great for him. And and by lows, I think Marcelo
- 1:41:13Zunig, we said by low on him, he gave you 18 points.
- 1:41:17Jackson Cheerio gave you 21 and Tony G gave you 16.
- 1:41:21So it's pretty good. Yeah.
- 1:41:22And I did, yeah, we did talk about Mookie Betts and that
- 1:41:25trade. I think I offered him Logan Webb
- 1:41:27for Mookie Betts, which I thought was a great trade.
- 1:41:29We we just talked about that. But you know, Sean, he's he's
- 1:41:32babbling in the chat over there. All right, Yeah.
- 1:41:35So we, we got like 15 minutes. So I'm trying to like Bing bang
- 1:41:40Next up for sell high. And again, like this is a guy
- 1:41:44that I totally get if you want to keep again, this is just my
- 1:41:49opinion. We'll look how we how they do
- 1:41:51next week. But Jung Hoo Lee, he's 93% on
- 1:41:56he's a Giants outfielder. You know, all right, week he
- 1:41:59gave you 3.2 a start, 19 total points, batted you 200.
- 1:42:02But he gave you two home runs, six rabies, two runs and only
- 1:42:05one strikeout, which is nice. Doesn't strike out a lot.
- 1:42:07Contact guy in a points league is what you want.
- 1:42:09Overall, 286 six homers, 29 ribbies, 30 runs scored, three
- 1:42:13stolen bases, 22 strikeouts and 168 at bats.
- 1:42:17He's giving you 133 points, 3.1 a start, which is amazing.
- 1:42:22I think this is someone you probably picked up off a free
- 1:42:24agency when you thought he was on a hot streak, and that streak
- 1:42:27just hasn't stopped. He's been hot last year, his
- 1:42:31first year, he already has more at bats than he had last year
- 1:42:35because he got hurt. So I do think there'll be a
- 1:42:38downfall for him. Might not be anything drastic or
- 1:42:41crazy, but there'll still be a downfall I think.
- 1:42:44So why not try to move them for again another pressing positions
- 1:42:47again? The last thing you want, we
- 1:42:49always talk about is you don't want to hold these guys when
- 1:42:51they go cold because then you're not going to be able to trade
- 1:42:54them again. It's impossible to predict when
- 1:42:56someone goes cold, but if you look at the history, you can at
- 1:43:01least make an educated guess about it.
- 1:43:04I think, like I said, he might drop off at some point.
- 1:43:07And I think I, I know Mike, you put put him in a couple offers,
- 1:43:11so you're trying to shop him around too.
- 1:43:13But still a great player. You still keep him and you know,
- 1:43:16hopefully he doesn't get hurt and he continues to to to rake,
- 1:43:20but I don't know if he's gonna. Yeah, he got hurt last year,
- 1:43:24came back this year. He he's kind of kind of got
- 1:43:27thrown into a role to be a leader almost right away and a
- 1:43:29team that doesn't really have a lot of a lot of leadership, I
- 1:43:32feel. And he hasn't played a full
- 1:43:35season in in Major League Baseball yet.
- 1:43:38You know, he got hurt last last year was his rookie year.
- 1:43:41He gets hurt, misses the remainder of the season, comes
- 1:43:43back this year coming out hot and he's been doing it what now
- 1:43:475-6 weeks. So it's a big enough sample size
- 1:43:51where you can argue, yeah, this guy could be legit 3 point what,
- 1:43:552 points a game, 3.1. That's, that's, that's start
- 1:43:59every week type of points right there.
- 1:44:03What can you do for the whole year is the question.
- 1:44:07And I don't know if he can. I, I'm not really 100% sure.
- 1:44:11I mean, I, I'd like him to, especially if he like stays on
- 1:44:14my team. That'd be great.
- 1:44:15But I think I see an opportunity here where if I have a hole, so
- 1:44:21for instance, like my shortstop position, I could really use a
- 1:44:24shortstop. I feel like I'm, I'm missing out
- 1:44:26on a shortstop. So I, I want to maybe move
- 1:44:29someone like a league and, you know, maybe pair him up with a,
- 1:44:35a low end pitcher, make it a A2 for one.
- 1:44:38You know, we, we talked about Trey Turner a little bit, you
- 1:44:41know, on who's the cold list. You know, he didn't score a lot
- 1:44:44of points last week. That's maybe a buy a load type
- 1:44:46of candidate guy there. And a guy like Lee, like Doug
- 1:44:50said, he's picked up probably on free agency.
- 1:44:52I know I did. He was drafted.
- 1:44:54He he was dropped, but I, I did snag him luckily and you can
- 1:44:58argue that's a pretty decent trade because let's be honest,
- 1:45:01Trey Turner's not the same Trey Turner he was 5-6 years ago, but
- 1:45:06he still produces, you know, in a very good line up.
- 1:45:09So again, take your options, pick your options keep them.
- 1:45:13It's cool. Not a bad move but I think you
- 1:45:16have a small window to move him right now because he could just
- 1:45:19fall off a clip next week for all we know.
- 1:45:21It's. True.
- 1:45:24All right. And then finally concluding this
- 1:45:26segment of selling high, this is your boy Mike.
- 1:45:35Keeping with the Giants, he's 81% owned.
- 1:45:39He's one and O his last start, 6 innings, 9 strikeouts, three
- 1:45:44walks, 3 and gave you 23.88 points.
- 1:45:47And that was against a really good Arizona Diamondback team
- 1:45:50offense. Anyways, overall he's 6 and O 50
- 1:45:54innings pitched, 55 strikeouts, 26 walks at 30 ERA, 147 points.
- 1:46:01He's giving you 16.4 every time he takes the mound.
- 1:46:04OK, he's one of those pitchers that is good for a few rough
- 1:46:07starts a month in my opinion. I still think he's going to
- 1:46:10finish a top 15, maybe top 20 pitcher, and that's if he
- 1:46:16doesn't get injured, his ERA should probably go up.
- 1:46:21You're looking at like high threes, low fours, you know, I
- 1:46:24mean, if you look at some of his stats, 5 and a third, gave up
- 1:46:27three against three runs against the Reds, 4 innings, 4 inned
- 1:46:31against the Phillies, 6 innings, 3 inned against Arizona.
- 1:46:35I think these are starts, you know, that were no, no decisions
- 1:46:39that in my opinion, some of them probably could have been losses
- 1:46:42if he played for a different team that wasn't on at the time.
- 1:46:45I think the guy, he was drafted in the 19th round in our draft.
- 1:46:48He's currently a top five pitcher.
- 1:46:49So and he was absolutely taken as a bench guy.
- 1:46:53You wanted to take a chance on him.
- 1:46:55Your chance is paying off right now.
- 1:46:57You know, he's pitching in a pitcher's park.
- 1:47:00Everything is just the stars are aligning right now for Robbie
- 1:47:03Ray. But why not sell them high?
- 1:47:06Get yourself a top bat at a position you probably need to
- 1:47:09fill. You know this six and O is
- 1:47:11unrealistic to think he's got to you know, he's good for a
- 1:47:15clunker that that ERA, his career ERA is like a three 8.
- 1:47:19So just you know, if you want to keep him, I get it.
- 1:47:22Pitching is is a luxury. It's a good pitcher in any
- 1:47:26league. It's hard to find.
- 1:47:28That's why they pick it in our opinion is pitching is something
- 1:47:31that should be overvalued. But I would, I would maybe
- 1:47:35consider, you know, trading them if I own them.
- 1:47:40Hey, I mean, you didn't even mention that he's also injury
- 1:47:42prone as well. He he does go through some
- 1:47:45stretches where he does hit the IL stand.
- 1:47:47I mean, this is the best you're going to get right now from
- 1:47:49Robbie Ray Wright with the record and with, you know, and,
- 1:47:53and he is prone to walk guys too.
- 1:47:55He does get a little erratic at times.
- 1:47:57And like you said, if it wasn't for the Giants hot start, who
- 1:48:00knows where this guy would be right now from a point
- 1:48:03perspective, I don't want to take anything away from him
- 1:48:05because he has been producing. So, but it's just like you said,
- 1:48:09the stars are aligning. Everything's kind of just lining
- 1:48:12up for this guy. But again, great example of a
- 1:48:16guy if you have deep rotation, you kind of just had picked him
- 1:48:20up just because he was a a bench guy.
- 1:48:23It was like a wait and see type of person.
- 1:48:25We'll see how he comes back playing a full year.
- 1:48:27Came back last year part time was, you know, still so at
- 1:48:31times. And now it's his first full year
- 1:48:34in San Francisco. So yeah, he's coming out the
- 1:48:36gate hot. But we also know how injury
- 1:48:38prone these pitches are can be. And again, targeted position
- 1:48:43that you maybe don't have a lot of depth at, especially if you
- 1:48:46have the depth the the move a guy like Robbie Ray right now.
- 1:48:49So I'm all about it. So it's a good list, Doug here.
- 1:48:52I like those. I like those three guys.
- 1:48:54I. Appreciate that, Mike.
- 1:48:58Now I, I also think you'll like the buy low because you've
- 1:49:00already mentioned a couple of these guys.
- 1:49:05Let's breeze through these. We got about 10 minutes.
- 1:49:08I have on here Ranger shortstop Corey Seeger.
- 1:49:11Now again, we talk about injuries and all that good
- 1:49:14stuff. He's still 92.3% owned, but
- 1:49:18that's kind of dropping now that he hit the IL again.
- 1:49:21Listen, he had a pretty good week.
- 1:49:23He had gave you 16 points in one game.
- 1:49:25Like think about it. We just talked about who's not
- 1:49:29hot and you know, Matt Olson gave you 3 in an entire week of
- 1:49:34bad bats. He gave you a 16.
- 1:49:36So he gave you almost, you know, more points than some people
- 1:49:40give you an entire week. He gave you in a in a day in a
- 1:49:42game. Oh his overall numbers are still
- 1:49:45pretty good too right? 300 average, six home runs, 12
- 1:49:47ribbies, 15 runs, only 18 strikeouts and 100 at bats right
- 1:49:5268 points, 2.6 a start. I think when he's healthy, we
- 1:49:56all know he can produce. However, he's just not healthy
- 1:49:58often, and that's the problem with him.
- 1:50:00I think he's one of the top shortstop that was off the
- 1:50:02board, but owners might want to try to move him for someone more
- 1:50:05consistent someone that plays every day.
- 1:50:07I mean, I would definitely love to trade for him, but I'm not
- 1:50:10offering someone that was drafted around the same time he
- 1:50:12was because he was probably drafted in the top five or six
- 1:50:15rounds of any draft, right? I'd offer somebody that was
- 1:50:18probably drafted a little later. And I think that would that
- 1:50:23that's the what we were talking about earlier, you know, a draft
- 1:50:25position and trying to get back what you draft.
- 1:50:28Like that's what makes it so tough.
- 1:50:30But I do want to say if you are going to send an offer to him,
- 1:50:32just remember, you know, buyer beware, right?
- 1:50:35You're getting a guy that's going to be on the IL more often
- 1:50:37than not. Yeah, I mean, yeah, we talked
- 1:50:41about earlier, Corey Seeger, he has cut down his strikeouts this
- 1:50:44year, which is great to see. But unfortunately he just can't
- 1:50:48stay on the field. Again, it's tough because he's
- 1:50:53hurt now. So, you know, do you really want
- 1:50:56to go get go out and get a guy that's hurt right now and, and
- 1:50:59hopefully he comes back healthier and, and see how he
- 1:51:02does. Sure, that's that's cool.
- 1:51:06And you can get him at a really good price right now.
- 1:51:08I would love to see where he was drafted.
- 1:51:10I feel like he wasn't really drafted high in our league.
- 1:51:13I'm looking right now and I'm not seeing him in the 606 rounds
- 1:51:17here, six round. So he actually went right after
- 1:51:20Josh Naylor. So you said no Corey Seger, I'm
- 1:51:22not going to take you. I'm going to take Josh Naylor
- 1:51:24instead. I called him though.
- 1:51:27I said. I said that 5 or 6 rounds.
- 1:51:31So yeah, I'm looking at this round here, right, man, brood.
- 1:51:36It's it's actually pretty wild round.
- 1:51:38I know we're going to get a little off track here.
- 1:51:39I know we're up on it, but Saltube Olsen, Simeon Yamamoto,
- 1:51:43Naylor Seger Nola and Pete Alonso.
- 1:51:48So mixed bag right there. And that's why I say it's really
- 1:51:52tough to value guys where you drafted him at this point of the
- 1:51:54season. But now, because I feel like
- 1:51:57there's so much drastic change that's happened since Corey
- 1:52:01Seger's definitely a guy that when he's healthy, I wanted my
- 1:52:04team, but when he's not, it's a headache because again,
- 1:52:08shortstop's a really tough position to fill.
- 1:52:11And Phil and Corey Seeger's shoes are also really tough. 2.6
- 1:52:14points or a shortstop is really good.
- 1:52:17Right, All right. I think we only got like a
- 1:52:20couple more. Minutes, I know.
- 1:52:23Let's just try to rush. Next up, you talked about Trey
- 1:52:27Terry in a shortstop. He's 95% moan.
- 1:52:31Kind of rough week only give you 3 points, right?
- 1:52:337 strikeouts and 25 at bats. Overall 299, two homers, 14
- 1:52:38ribbies, 10 stolen bases, 34 strikeouts.
- 1:52:40He's giving you 2.3 a start. Solid numbers.
- 1:52:44Nowhere near you thought what you expected when you drafted
- 1:52:46him. McCain, he was probably drafted
- 1:52:47pretty high. He was actually kept in our
- 1:52:49league. So I think what made him an
- 1:52:52appealing shortstop is similar to Seeger is that his ability to
- 1:52:55hit home runs. He always had that sneaky power.
- 1:52:58But unlike sneaker Seeger, he can also steal.
- 1:53:00So that makes him, I think a little more better, a little
- 1:53:05more better, a little more someone you'd probably want more
- 1:53:07than a, a Seger type just to offset some of those numbers.
- 1:53:12But I, I, I still like him. I think you could get him for
- 1:53:14someone that was drafted later. If he doesn't turn it around
- 1:53:17like he did the second-half of last year.
- 1:53:19If he does end up turning it around, then it's a steal.
- 1:53:22Just again, no, he's a year older.
- 1:53:24And at some point you have to be realistic and know that, you
- 1:53:26know, those home runs and those stolen bases are going to stop.
- 1:53:30Yeah, I agree with everything you just said.
- 1:53:31I think really this is a guy that you should target shortstop
- 1:53:34if we don't have one. You can get him at an affordable
- 1:53:37price right now I think without breaking the bank all.
- 1:53:41Right. And then last but not least,
- 1:53:45this is a pitcher. We had talked about him earlier.
- 1:53:48We were bringing him back. This is a good buy low
- 1:53:51candidate. Cole Ragans, he's 97.7%.
- 1:53:55I know he only gave you 1.4 points last start.
- 1:53:57He went O 115 innings, 8 KS, two walks, 4 earned overall, not
- 1:54:02really good. I mean he's giving you 10 points
- 1:54:04a start, but he's two and two. He's got a four, 2 ERA, you
- 1:54:08know, 65 strikeouts and 40 innings.
- 1:54:10That's a saving grace I think. His last eight starts the guy's
- 1:54:13only pitched 6 plus innings twice.
- 1:54:15He gave you 5567 and 2 thirds. 4355 not what you'd expect.
- 1:54:21Some not what you'd expect, right?
- 1:54:24This was again someone that was drafted at 4th round in our
- 1:54:26league. So I think owners might be
- 1:54:28looking to move on, especially those that are losing weeks by,
- 1:54:31you know, 10 points or less. You, you want to look for a
- 1:54:33change. You try to shake up your line
- 1:54:35up. This is a guy you know, why not?
- 1:54:38This is someone you could probably get for like a decent
- 1:54:40pitcher, A2 for one pitcher bat, you know, a decent bat, a decent
- 1:54:44pitcher, 2 for one. I think his numbers are better
- 1:54:47than what they look like. He might.
- 1:54:50Here's the thing though, like, you know, let's last year was
- 1:54:54the year they took the training wheels off.
- 1:54:55He pitched a career high 186 innings.
- 1:54:57So prior to that it was 40 innings, then it was 96 innings.
- 1:55:01So he doubled his output from his career high.
- 1:55:05So I think you could be seeing on fatigue, you know, he could
- 1:55:08be a Robbie Ray type, which on his strikeouts and a a high ERA,
- 1:55:14you know, a high low 4, high three.
- 1:55:17I think in any case, I'd still buy low on them.
- 1:55:19But just keep in mind that that innings increase was so
- 1:55:22substantial it it would maybe scare me away from offering
- 1:55:26someone a little better than what I would offer.
- 1:55:29Yeah, I think the innings increase with me, if I did have
- 1:55:31Cole Ragans, the innings increase from last year, from
- 1:55:34the year prior going into this year would want me to make me
- 1:55:37sell him to this point. And if you can still get a
- 1:55:40couple of decent pieces back, I know it's a buy low candidate,
- 1:55:43but maybe it's to the point where maybe I would be with Cole
- 1:55:46Ragans, where maybe I just want to move away from him just
- 1:55:48because there's a lot that, you know, a lot of baseball left.
- 1:55:52You don't want to have a guy on your team have his arm fall off.
- 1:55:56And you know, Cole Ragans has that potential, unfortunately,
- 1:56:00just because that's a big gap. We saw it with Tana Hulk last
- 1:56:04year going back more innings. So yeah, I'm a little on the
- 1:56:09fence for Cole. But you know, I totally get it.
- 1:56:11I get it. I get it both ways.
- 1:56:14Awesome, man. Well, that is actually the
- 1:56:16perfect timing, my man. We wrapped it up.
- 1:56:18We ended, we ended quick. Yeah.
- 1:56:21So we we had an opportunity to go run the league, talk about
- 1:56:24some big stuff that was going on, some huge IL stints that'll
- 1:56:29probably definitely hurt your fantasy team.
- 1:56:31A lot of, you know, over 90 plus own players got hurt and, and
- 1:56:36hopefully that's a trend that'll end soon and talked about some
- 1:56:40buy, buy low, sell high, who was hot and who wasn't.
- 1:56:45So, you know, we'll be back next week.
- 1:56:49Same information, different players.
- 1:56:51We'll we'll discuss and breakdown and see how those buy
- 1:56:56high, sell high buy low players actually panned out if you did.
- 1:57:02And yeah, that's it. I mean, you can catch this
- 1:57:04episode tomorrow. It's going to be on New England
- 1:57:06streaming sports on Roku. So for Mikey V, I'm Doug.
