- 0:14Speaker 1: to the third hour of The Morning Show with Preston's

- 0:22Speaker 1: to be with you this morning. Remember raising funds to
- 0:26Speaker 1: build a home for orphan children. It's the second time

- 0:39Speaker 1: we would appreciate it. Orphanshade dot com. All right, please
- 0:44Speaker 1: to have with us. He is the Commissioner of Education
- 0:46Speaker 1: for the Sunshine State. Anastasioskimuts Us. Good morning, sir, how
- 0:50Speaker 1: are you.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Good morning, Preston, how are you? It's great to be here.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Okay, before we start to establish some credibility for our
- 0:58Speaker 1: audience here, okay, I'm gonna get give you a little quiz,
- 1:01Speaker 1: all right, Okay, how many genders are there?
- 1:10Speaker 2: There are two sexes. We don't even we don't even
- 1:13Speaker 2: play into the gender game because that's where they go
- 1:16Speaker 2: into the fluidity argument. There are two sexes one male,
- 1:19Speaker 2: one female.
- 1:20Speaker 1: All right, very good, you can stay on the show.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We just covered the supertenitive education in Michigan. Refusing to
- 1:30Speaker 1: answer the question because you know, different people have different
- 1:32Speaker 1: thoughts on that. Thank you so much for coming on
- 1:37Speaker 1: the show. And I understand that there are some items
- 1:42Speaker 1: that have been adopted by the state Board in recent days.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And first tell us what the Phoenix Declaration is.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the Phoenix Declaration is an affirmative statement that really
- 1:54Speaker 2: sets a framework for our educational system and what we'd
- 1:57Speaker 2: like to see as far as principles that are of
- 2:01Speaker 2: value to our state board. Parental choice and responsibility, transparency
- 2:06Speaker 2: and accountability, truth and goodness and objective truth, character formation,
- 2:12Speaker 2: academic excellence, citizenship. These are the guiding principles of the
- 2:16Speaker 2: Phoenix Declaration.
- 2:17Speaker 1: How will that impact a local school district across Florida.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Well, I think you're going to continue to see what
- 2:25Speaker 2: we've been doing all along. I mean, these standards really
- 2:28Speaker 2: reinforce what has been taking place in the state of
- 2:30Speaker 2: Florida under the leadership of Governor DeSantis. When you talk
- 2:34Speaker 2: about parental choice and responsibility, I don't know of any
- 2:36Speaker 2: other state that has empowered parents more than this governor,
- 2:40Speaker 2: particularly since everything we uncovered during COVID and so passing
- 2:44Speaker 2: a parental Bill of Rights, passing curriculum transparency, passing, and
- 2:49Speaker 2: making sure that there's legislation that protects the innocence of
- 2:52Speaker 2: children and what topics they're going to be exposed to,
- 2:55Speaker 2: ensuring that it's age and developmentally appropriate, ensuring that it's
- 2:59Speaker 2: based in the objective, factual truth. All these policies and
- 3:03Speaker 2: principles that you're seeing articulated in the Phoenix Declaration or
- 3:07Speaker 2: what we've been doing all along and what we will
- 3:09Speaker 2: continue to do. It's been wild the amount of controversy
- 3:14Speaker 2: that we've received as a result of folks who just
- 3:18Speaker 2: don't like the Heritage Foundation and its affiliation with the principles.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But not a single criticism has gone towards the principles
- 3:26Speaker 2: articulated in the Phoenix Declaration. And that's because objectively, everyone
- 3:30Speaker 2: can agree these are good things to value and education.
- 3:33Speaker 1: What does that say that they're just mad at the association?
- 3:36Speaker 1: You know, the same thing happened to President Trump. You know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: the Heritage Foundation put out a thing on what they
- 3:42Speaker 1: think ought to happen in the future of this country,
- 3:44Speaker 1: whether anybody embraces it or not as up to them,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but they put out some guidelines and they tried to
- 3:50Speaker 1: hammer Trump with that. It's the same tactic.
- 3:53Speaker 2: That's right. And we just received the letter yesterday from
- 3:56Speaker 2: ten Democrat members of the Florida Legislature, I believe it
- 3:59Speaker 2: was in the Florida Hoigh saying that this Phoenix Declaration
- 4:03Speaker 2: is somehow racist in nature. And I'm just befuddled by
- 4:08Speaker 2: the letter just because, as I articulated these principles, these
- 4:12Speaker 2: are pretty unapologetically across the board, straightforward. I mean, who
- 4:17Speaker 2: doesn't value academic excellence. Who doesn't want our students to
- 4:21Speaker 2: understand civic virtues and the knowledge necessary for self government
- 4:25Speaker 2: and civil disagreement? Who doesn't believe in character formation and
- 4:29Speaker 2: making sure that students are understanding personal responsibility and self discipline.
- 4:35Speaker 2: These are all great things that we should be valuing
- 4:37Speaker 2: in our education system. And I'm thankful to the leadership
- 4:40Speaker 2: of Governor DeSantis, but also the chair of the State
- 4:43Speaker 2: Board of Education Ryan Petty and former Commissioner of Education
- 4:47Speaker 2: Many Diaz, as they were both original signatories to the
- 4:50Speaker 2: Phoenix Declaration when it was signed into existence close to
- 4:53Speaker 2: a year ago, and So this is a document that
- 4:56Speaker 2: all kinds of educational experts from across the nation boord
- 5:00Speaker 2: into and signed off on it, and we're proud to
- 5:02Speaker 2: stand by it.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Stoss. Listeners of the program know, I have been long
- 5:07Speaker 1: advocating that communist socialist Marxist should be allowed to run
- 5:11Speaker 1: for office in this country. I believe it's a direct
- 5:13Speaker 1: opposition to the oath of office to defend this constitution.
- 5:18Speaker 1: But this really points to a bigger issue, and that
- 5:22Speaker 1: is the lack of knowledge and understanding of what communism
- 5:27Speaker 1: is and its failures across time and history. You all
- 5:32Speaker 1: have addressed that tell us about these new standards, Yeah, we look.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It dates back to twenty twenty two when the governor
- 5:38Speaker 2: signed the Victims of Communism Day that required at least
- 5:41Speaker 2: forty five minutes of direct instruction on the history and
- 5:44Speaker 2: atrocities of communist regimes. And then he built on that
- 5:48Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four when he signed Senate Bill twelve
- 5:51Speaker 2: sixty four that required a comprehensive instruction on the history
- 5:56Speaker 2: of communism starting in the twenty six to twenty seven
- 5:59Speaker 2: school here. And so just last week the state Board
- 6:01Speaker 2: of Education adopted those standards and it just continues to
- 6:05Speaker 2: show why Florida continues to be a leader in civic education.
- 6:09Speaker 2: These standards are going to show, you know, specifically the
- 6:13Speaker 2: atrocities that are related to communism. Many people know I'm
- 6:17Speaker 2: Greek by my name, but I'm also Cuban on my
- 6:19Speaker 2: mother's side, and I was fortunate that I got to
- 6:22Speaker 2: hear directly from victims of communism through my grandparents who
- 6:25Speaker 2: fled communist Cuba in nineteen sixty. And so what this
- 6:28Speaker 2: does is it gives students that same education and foundational
- 6:32Speaker 2: knowledge that I had as a kid growing up to
- 6:34Speaker 2: understand the atrocities committed under communist governments. That includes mass shillings,
- 6:40Speaker 2: political prisons for starvation, suppression of speech. I mean, it's
- 6:44Speaker 2: just horrific the end result. And it also exposes students
- 6:49Speaker 2: to something that we're seeing increasingly become romanticized and popular,
- 6:53Speaker 2: which is versions of socialism, which we all know are
- 6:56Speaker 2: the beginning frameworks and steps for communism.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Well, you know, we talked just last week about the
- 7:01Speaker 1: fact that you know, in Governor William Bradford's documents with
- 7:04Speaker 1: the first Pilgrims, the settlers that came on the Mayflower,
- 7:09Speaker 1: they used communism his word, not mine, and found it
- 7:13Speaker 1: to be an abject failure. Are these lessons going to
- 7:16Speaker 1: go back that far to point out how the people
- 7:18Speaker 1: that came to this land so many centuries ago learned
- 7:22Speaker 1: that lesson fundamentally early on.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It's going to cover all kinds of topics. I mean,
- 7:27Speaker 2: it's going to talk about the rise of communism globally
- 7:30Speaker 2: and in the United States. It's going to do the
- 7:32Speaker 2: comparative study of communism, intotalitarianism, and the principles of freedom
- 7:36Speaker 2: that are foundational to this country and what makes this
- 7:39Speaker 2: the greatest country on earth, you know, the political, industrial,
- 7:42Speaker 2: and economic conditions that sparked communist revolutions. It talks about
- 7:47Speaker 2: Cuba and generally Latin America and the spread of communist movement.
- 7:51Speaker 2: So you are going to see a wide array of
- 7:54Speaker 2: the history of communism throughout the world.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Who's going to write the curriculum? Where's it? Where are
- 7:58Speaker 1: we going to get it?
- 8:00Speaker 2: So it's already been written Florida educators and content experts
- 8:04Speaker 2: quite frankly, who graciously spent all kinds of time helping
- 8:08Speaker 2: develop these standards to ensure that history was taught in
- 8:11Speaker 2: a clear on its an unfiltered way or who put
- 8:14Speaker 2: these standards together, and so that is what the board
- 8:17Speaker 2: voted on. So you're going to see there's going to
- 8:19Speaker 2: be professional development over the summer so that teachers are
- 8:22Speaker 2: taught what these standards are because they are going to
- 8:25Speaker 2: be implemented for the first time in the twenty six
- 8:28Speaker 2: twenty seven school year.
- 8:29Speaker 1: How do you make sure the teachers are going to
- 8:31Speaker 1: embrace it and teach it fairly and accurately.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I think that's why professional development is so important. We
- 8:38Speaker 2: provide that at the Florida Department of Education because we
- 8:40Speaker 2: want to make sure that our educators understand the standards.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Gives them an opportunity to ask questions, to let us
- 8:49Speaker 2: know if they have additional feedback. But the reality is
- 8:52Speaker 2: that's how this generally goes. Ultimately, if the bad actor
- 8:56Speaker 2: is going to stray from the standards, as we saw
- 8:58Speaker 2: in Florida Southwestern Stay College with the sociology professor who
- 9:03Speaker 2: was literally part of our work group that put together
- 9:05Speaker 2: the standards and decided to run afoul the law and
- 9:08Speaker 2: teach a gender ideology contrary to what the law allows.
- 9:13Speaker 2: There was accountability that was brought towards that professor and
- 9:15Speaker 2: teachers can expect the same as they're going to stray
- 9:17Speaker 2: away from the standards.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Well, parents, now you've heard it from the Commission of
- 9:21Speaker 1: Education himself, and you'll know to look for it starting
- 9:24Speaker 1: next year. And Commissioner, thank you, appreciate your efforts on
- 9:28Speaker 1: this stuff and look forward to having you back. And
- 9:31Speaker 1: until then, have a great Thanksgiving.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Thank you, God bless you, and have a great Thanksgiving.
- 9:36Speaker 1: He is the Commissioner of Education, Anastasioskimutzus. See what I
- 9:41Speaker 1: did there, I did my job. I pronounced his name right. Yeah. Now,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean, how wonderful is that that we're going to
- 9:53Speaker 1: teach communism and how awful it is the unvarnished history
- 10:00Speaker 1: of it all. Seventeen minutes past the hour, Go Florida,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Come on, come on This Morning Show with Preston's Guy.
