- 3:43Speaker 4: on the Rewind. We're gonna be taking a retrospective look
- 3:46Speaker 4: a rewind if you will at the AW Figure line,
- 3:49Speaker 4: and we have with us an esteemed guys. Thank you
- 3:52Speaker 4: so much for having us here, or well, I thank
- 3:55Speaker 4: you for being on here. I'm having you Kyle Peterson.
- 3:58Speaker 4: How's it going? But hey Herekyle, I want to take
- 4:02Speaker 4: you back real quick. Before we were going to talk
- 4:05Speaker 4: about AW and the Jazz Wars on uh. The year
- 4:08Speaker 4: I believe is two thousand and four. I was working
- 4:11Speaker 4: a summer job. It was my first job. I was
- 4:14Speaker 4: working at my dad's school, getting the school ready for
- 4:17Speaker 4: the year. And I remember I got my first paycheck
- 4:20Speaker 4: and I took that immediately. As soon as I got
- 4:22Speaker 4: that paycheck, I took that and I went on Ringside
- 4:27Speaker 4: Collectibles dot Com and I got the first two series
- 4:32Speaker 4: that had just come out of the toy Biz TNA
- 4:37Speaker 4: figure line. It was huge. I mean, you were not
- 4:40Speaker 4: only was it the first uh you know, NONWW figures
- 4:44Speaker 4: since closed, but you know, you were getting guys that
- 4:48Speaker 4: were you never thought you figures out AJ Styles, Christopher
- 4:51Speaker 4: Daniels and so on. And you know, for me as
- 4:55Speaker 4: a young collector at the time, that was huge. That
- 4:57Speaker 4: was a big deal. Forward twenty twenty, aw's popping off.
- 5:03Speaker 4: It's their first first full year, and then the jazzword
- 5:08Speaker 4: line gets announced. From your perspective, now, obviously now at
- 5:12Speaker 4: this point, I'm already in the wrestling game a little bit.
- 5:15Speaker 4: My friends are in AAW, so I'm a little bit removed.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I don't collect as many current guys, but I do
- 5:22Speaker 4: see what's going on. Here from your perspective when AW
- 5:26Speaker 4: first announced their line, Like, what is the reaction? What
- 5:30Speaker 4: were your thought? Is some of the feedback that you heard.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny to test in my memory a little
- 5:36Speaker 1: bit here, but that was a really good analogy you
- 5:38Speaker 1: just put out there. And I never thought of it
- 5:39Speaker 1: that way. But the toy biz TNA, I mean, it
- 5:42Speaker 1: was very similar to what we got with AW. It's
- 5:45Speaker 1: a second promotion, it's competition. I never really thought of
- 5:49Speaker 1: it that way until you just said that, But you're
- 5:51Speaker 1: spot on. But I'll never forget when they first were announced.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean I was very excited. It's funny it coincides
- 5:57Speaker 1: with me even starting my YouTube channel with AW figure.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I mean, I remember some of the first figure hunts
- 6:02Speaker 1: I did on my channel were when they had that
- 6:04Speaker 1: series one palettes out at the Walmart stores. That was
- 6:06Speaker 1: a big, big deal. People were trying to track those
- 6:09Speaker 1: figures down, and I remember there being a lot of
- 6:13Speaker 1: hooplaw because I think Brandy wasn't at retail if I
- 6:15Speaker 1: remember correctly, so a lot of people worked up about that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And then I don't think anybody could find the Chase
- 6:22Speaker 1: rare figures at the beginning either, and there was a
- 6:25Speaker 1: lot of hooplaw about that. So there was a lot
- 6:27Speaker 1: of controversy from the get go with this line, But
- 6:30Speaker 1: much like the toy biz TNA stuff, it was another
- 6:34Speaker 1: competitor something else. And honestly, these fit in pretty well
- 6:38Speaker 1: with Mattel. I mean they're not quite Mattel figures, but
- 6:40Speaker 1: they fit in right in there, and that was a
- 6:42Speaker 1: huge deal for a lot of collectors along the way too, right.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the scale and everything matched up, and
- 6:49Speaker 4: I kind of that was one of the first things
- 6:51Speaker 4: too that I kind of jumped at me about when
- 6:54Speaker 4: this line came out. As you mentioned, there was was
- 6:59Speaker 4: it just cotribution problems? There was, I remember there was
- 7:02Speaker 4: a lot of controversy. People couldn't find the figures anywhere.
- 7:06Speaker 4: What was going on during that at that initial release?
- 7:08Speaker 4: That was that made the figure so hard to find?
- 7:11Speaker 1: It was an interesting and you know Jeremy and if
- 7:13Speaker 1: we followed Jeremy of course one of the shows over there.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I mean, he's a big time into plutability of things,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and he's always been that way with plastic superstars before
- 7:22Speaker 1: and his time with Jacks. But it was an interesting
- 7:25Speaker 1: distribution model from the get go with the Jazzwars figures
- 7:28Speaker 1: because you know, Ringside had them, Walmart had them, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: Target had them. But it was interesting Amazon never had them.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You know, the big bad toy stores of the world,
- 7:38Speaker 1: the entertainment earths of the world and all points in
- 7:41Speaker 1: between did not carry these figures. So there was some
- 7:45Speaker 1: kind of exclusivity deal on some of that kind of stuff.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And I don't know if that was a little bit
- 7:49Speaker 1: of maybe other stores not willing to take the line over.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I'm not sure. I don't think that's the case, but
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was very confusing and anytime there's something new, brand new,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and I think most collectors in the wrestling space, for sure,
- 8:03Speaker 1: this was the first time they'd ever heard of the
- 8:04Speaker 1: company Jazzuars. I don't think anybody knew. It's not like
- 8:08Speaker 1: Mattel and Hasbro, which everybody pretty much knows. It was
- 8:12Speaker 1: very interesting, a new player to a lot of people,
- 8:14Speaker 1: even though they were and still are a huge toy company,
- 8:17Speaker 1: that was fresh to a lot of people.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I mean it kind of they were kind of like
- 8:21Speaker 4: right around that time. I think Squish Mollows was really
- 8:25Speaker 4: blowing up at the time. My girlfriend at the time
- 8:28Speaker 4: was like huge into them and I knew people were
- 8:30Speaker 4: going crazy for this, which that is a Jazzar's product.
- 8:34Speaker 4: So I mean it seems like they had kind of
- 8:38Speaker 4: some sort of leeway in that respect because they were
- 8:41Speaker 4: kind of blowing up with that. And then you know,
- 8:45Speaker 4: they there was also the issue, if I recall it right,
- 8:49Speaker 4: the first line, you had Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, the
- 8:53Speaker 4: Young Bucks. I think you said Brandy was in that
- 8:54Speaker 4: first Jericho, So I mean, you have the heavy hitters
- 8:59Speaker 4: right off the bat, but then there was an issue.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Do you remember the issue with the skin tones.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Skin tone? Yep, that was a huge, huge miss from
- 9:07Speaker 1: the get go. I mean Cody Rhodes was almost translucent.
- 9:10Speaker 4: That's right, Yeah, I was. I was just looking back
- 9:12Speaker 4: at some of them. They were like very pale pasty,
- 9:16Speaker 4: But you know, at the same token, I think it's like,
- 9:19Speaker 4: you know, that's probably some of the growing pains that
- 9:21Speaker 4: you kind of have to, you know, get through to
- 9:24Speaker 4: when you start a you know.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Jeremy said he made a post or something around that
- 9:29Speaker 1: time too that they were going to correct it, which
- 9:31Speaker 1: they did, and I believe they were corrected as ringside exclusives.
- 9:34Speaker 1: They corrected the skin tone down the road, But it
- 9:37Speaker 1: kind of came up to the factory messing up, just
- 9:40Speaker 1: like you know, no different than a collect Major with
- 9:42Speaker 1: was it Major Stars Series one? The factory screwed it
- 9:45Speaker 1: up and instead of holding it. I mean, they probably
- 9:49Speaker 1: had a lot more Jazz Where's Aw figures made than
- 9:51Speaker 1: Major Stars. So if you're going to put these palettes
- 9:53Speaker 1: at all these walmarts and stuff, and I think it would
- 9:55Speaker 1: have killed the line immediately if they would have canceled them.
- 9:57Speaker 1: So they had to let it go.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Do you think and in hindsight that maybe do you
- 10:03Speaker 4: think the line was there was there a rush to
- 10:07Speaker 4: get them out? Do you think or do you think that?
- 10:09Speaker 4: I mean obviously also what was going on in the
- 10:11Speaker 4: world at that time, but do you think that was
- 10:14Speaker 4: a factor. Do you think they were trying to get
- 10:16Speaker 4: it rushed out there?
- 10:18Speaker 1: I do think jazzwhear As as a whole, throughout the entire
- 10:22Speaker 1: length of the line did rush things a little bit.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I mean, there's obviously certain points where maybe there was
- 10:27Speaker 1: delays and stuff. I think that's different reasons. But I
- 10:30Speaker 1: think they also wanted to be closer to market than WWE.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You know, we know WWE elite figures take roughly a year.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think they were trying to close the gap to
- 10:39Speaker 1: like seven to eight months if they could. I think
- 10:41Speaker 1: they did that a few times, not every time, obviously,
- 10:45Speaker 1: but I do think they wanted to rush it out there.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And it really just comes down to business at Walmart
- 10:49Speaker 1: with they call them comacs at Walmart. I mean that's
- 10:52Speaker 1: me getting into my retail day job conversation. But yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: they get time for planograms, they get you know, you
- 10:59Speaker 1: know those PRDs, the displays that those came on your
- 11:05Speaker 1: earmarked for a certain timeframe on those. So they had to.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I mean, if they didn't, they're they're out a bunch
- 11:10Speaker 1: of money, probably millions of dollars buying that space. Plus
- 11:14Speaker 1: they're out the figures. They had no choice at that matter,
- 11:17Speaker 1: and I think it was an error from the factory
- 11:19Speaker 1: and slipped through the cracks and they said, hey, we
- 11:22Speaker 1: got to roll with it.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Yeah. It's it's kind of interesting too, because, like like
- 11:26Speaker 4: you said, Mattel, with the leads and everything, and that
- 11:28Speaker 4: takes usually if someone debuts, you're not going to see
- 11:31Speaker 4: that figure maybe for a year. AW starts in twenty nineteen, essentially, right,
- 11:39Speaker 4: and these figures are out in twenty twenty, So that
- 11:42Speaker 4: is very like that's a quick turnaround. You know, we
- 11:45Speaker 4: were talking about the TNA toylets on that TNA had
- 11:49Speaker 4: already been around for two three years at that point,
- 11:53Speaker 4: they had more time and it was kind of interesting too,
- 11:57Speaker 4: like you were mentioning about these companies taken arrest to
- 12:01Speaker 4: have these figures in line. I also just reminded me
- 12:04Speaker 4: of that. Do you remember that the Lucha Libre line
- 12:07Speaker 4: that came out as a Playmates? Was it Playmates? That was?
- 12:10Speaker 4: It was like they were like toy Biz kind of
- 12:12Speaker 4: but I guess it was right after toy Biz, but
- 12:15Speaker 4: it's just like weird. They just kind of like entered
- 12:17Speaker 4: this market with very little credibility and very little star
- 12:22Speaker 4: power and they were able to have space on the shelf.
- 12:26Speaker 4: But to that point, a lot of those figures I
- 12:28Speaker 4: remember seeing on the shelf for a while, which ended
- 12:32Speaker 4: up being the case with a lot of the AW
- 12:34Speaker 4: figures too. The other I know there's other issues kind
- 12:41Speaker 4: of like with the line. But what was for you,
- 12:45Speaker 4: like some of the things that you were looking forward
- 12:47Speaker 4: to when when AW first gets announced, Like what was
- 12:50Speaker 4: what were your hopes, what were your expectations with this
- 12:52Speaker 4: with this pre so yeah, no.
- 12:54Speaker 1: When Jeremy Padauer was involved with this, who was the
- 12:57Speaker 1: spearhead at Jack's for many years, he also dabbled and
- 13:00Speaker 1: he man once upon a time, but him doing the
- 13:03Speaker 1: Classic Superstars and seeing and I'm sure you remember this
- 13:06Speaker 1: as a kid, some of the things he would do
- 13:08Speaker 1: with wrestling, like we'd have backstage play sets, we'd have
- 13:10Speaker 1: hell in the cell, huge elimination chambers. So anything was
- 13:15Speaker 1: really possible with Jeremy there to find a way. I mean,
- 13:18Speaker 1: we're going to get huge play sets. I mean they
- 13:20Speaker 1: were going to do like a full arena. At one time,
- 13:22Speaker 1: they were talking around. They were talking about like Chuck
- 13:25Speaker 1: Taylor's mom's van. I mean they were really talking about
- 13:28Speaker 1: all these things, talking a really amazing game, and I
- 13:31Speaker 1: honestly believe that stuff was going to come to fruition
- 13:33Speaker 1: because Jeremy's track record in the past, so there was
- 13:37Speaker 1: really the sky was the limit. And the one thing
- 13:39Speaker 1: about competition too, it makes everybody better. And I think
- 13:43Speaker 1: it made Mattel say, hey, we got to step up
- 13:45Speaker 1: our game too. And you know, the Mattel team is
- 13:48Speaker 1: deep in the weeds with this, which not every toy
- 13:50Speaker 1: company has people that are deep in the weeds that
- 13:52Speaker 1: are actually fans of the brand they work on. So
- 13:55Speaker 1: Mattel usually raised the stakes anyways, but there's no denying
- 13:58Speaker 1: I think you asked them. For everybody over there at Mattel,
- 14:00Speaker 1: they'd say, Hey, we had to work harder because we
- 14:02Speaker 1: knew I had competition at our heels. And I think
- 14:05Speaker 1: that was a big thing. And I think that's something
- 14:07Speaker 1: they'll be missing here real soon.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna be kind of interesting. And I think
- 14:12Speaker 4: another like interesting part of it, too, was for the
- 14:15Speaker 4: first time and we didn't really I mean we saw
- 14:19Speaker 4: it a little bit with the toy design, but for
- 14:21Speaker 4: the first time we were seeing examples of not just
- 14:26Speaker 4: how did these figures stack up against each other, but
- 14:28Speaker 4: Cody Rhoads, right, Cody Rhodes has this, He's the first,
- 14:32Speaker 4: I believe he's the first Supreme figure that they did,
- 14:35Speaker 4: which is like their ultimate. Then Cody Rhads jumps to
- 14:38Speaker 4: WDV and they make an ultimate and then now you're
- 14:41Speaker 4: like seeing hand in hand. You know, in a lot
- 14:43Speaker 4: of cases, a lot of people were saying, hey, these
- 14:46Speaker 4: supremes are are are better.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They spreams are really really good, and it's funny. I
- 14:52Speaker 1: think I was even in some of my figure hunts
- 14:54Speaker 1: for a little bit of a window. There was mattel
- 14:56Speaker 1: Cody on the pegs plus the Walmart Exclusive Supreme Cody
- 15:00Speaker 1: at the same time, which that's an interesting thing.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's well, I mean, and it's not something we're
- 15:06Speaker 4: I mean, you know, are we ever going to see
- 15:08Speaker 4: that again? And you know you were mentioning like playsets
- 15:12Speaker 4: and stuff I saw. I remember they did the I
- 15:15Speaker 4: think this came out even recently, which is saying something
- 15:18Speaker 4: because this was a long time ago. The Sammy Gravara,
- 15:21Speaker 4: Matt Hardy golf right. Was there any other like misses?
- 15:27Speaker 4: Not missus, but like you know, a play set or
- 15:30Speaker 4: something you wish we could have seen from from.
- 15:33Speaker 1: The most was the Hangman page and his horse. He
- 15:38Speaker 1: mentioned that numerous times. That would have been an easy layup,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and I think that would have been a smart move
- 15:44Speaker 1: for them because they could have got that horse to
- 15:45Speaker 1: sell with Marvel, Legend collectors and others. I think they
- 15:48Speaker 1: could have got cross over there. So I think that
- 15:50Speaker 1: was a bit of a miss. They did quite a
- 15:52Speaker 1: few rings. I think they stayed pretty consistent with rings
- 15:55Speaker 1: for the most part. But you get like Aubrey Edwards
- 15:58Speaker 1: with a ring. You got Sting with the ring, we
- 16:00Speaker 1: got Cody with the ring, we got Kenny Omega with
- 16:03Speaker 1: a ring. So rings where I think, okay, But it
- 16:06Speaker 1: would have been nice to get a little bit more,
- 16:08Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more playset wise, to really stand out.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I mean, the anarchy in the arena or whatever they
- 16:13Speaker 1: call it. I think that could have been something really cool.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Even if they could have mixed plastic and cardboard together
- 16:18Speaker 1: to make an arena, I think that would have been
- 16:20Speaker 1: something that would have had legs for fan bases of
- 16:23Speaker 1: Mattel and Jazz wears. So there's some of that and
- 16:26Speaker 1: then you know, just like I forget what their cage
- 16:28Speaker 1: is called, their version of kind of the hell in
- 16:30Speaker 1: the cell and their Wargames cage, but of guts there
- 16:34Speaker 1: you go. I think that could have been something they
- 16:35Speaker 1: could have really done to the market pretty good. And
- 16:38Speaker 1: I think that kind of stuff is stuff if I
- 16:40Speaker 1: was in their shoes and if I was working over there,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I mean it's easy to armchair quarterback. But that's something
- 16:46Speaker 1: that you could get, you know, Mattel fans and WW
- 16:49Speaker 1: fans to buy that kind of stuff. Maybe they don't
- 16:50Speaker 1: want to wrestlers. I'll have a cage. I'll have a
- 16:53Speaker 1: ring that's like a war games. They could have got
- 16:55Speaker 1: some extra sales out of things like that.
- 16:58Speaker 4: I you know, do you remember when it was like
- 17:01Speaker 4: kind of in the towards the death bed of Jack's
- 17:03Speaker 4: where they did these UH rings where each one was
- 17:07Speaker 4: like tailored to specific guys. Right, they had like a
- 17:11Speaker 4: mc foley one with the barbed wire, they had a.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Piper, there was a miss one everybody.
- 17:17Speaker 4: They could have done something like that where it was
- 17:19Speaker 4: like maybe not a ring, but like a special box
- 17:22Speaker 4: set where maybe it was like two guys that would
- 17:25Speaker 4: have pieces of the of the anarchy and the arena thing, you.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Know, build an arena between like like six packs or
- 17:32Speaker 1: something like that.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Yeah, the the one thing too. I do you feel
- 17:37Speaker 4: with where we are now with this line and as
- 17:41Speaker 4: far as what the roster UH is and what it
- 17:44Speaker 4: was that throughout the different points, do you think they
- 17:46Speaker 4: got deep enough in the roster? Were there any major
- 17:50Speaker 4: misses there that we didn't that we didn't see that
- 17:52Speaker 4: we should have seen.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It's really because you look at this wrestling figure fan,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you want everybody, I want the deepest cuts I want
- 18:01Speaker 1: everybody on the roster. I mean, that's what the majority
- 18:04Speaker 1: of the hardcore fans want. But the problem is what
- 18:06Speaker 1: the hardcore fans want and what retail will support. It's
- 18:10Speaker 1: such a miss between those, and I do think that
- 18:13Speaker 1: goes to a little bit of the downfall of the
- 18:15Speaker 1: line in some ways, because unfortunately you had some Naya Ross.
- 18:18Speaker 1: You have my girl Rio, I mean, she was a
- 18:20Speaker 1: great joke on my channel for like four years because
- 18:23Speaker 1: it was in every single store in the ten States
- 18:25Speaker 1: I travel and I would always say hello to Rio.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It was like a long running joke. But unfortunately those
- 18:31Speaker 1: took You only have so much peg space, and when
- 18:33Speaker 1: you got those, and unfortunately, like the Chuck Taylors of
- 18:35Speaker 1: the world, I mean, there's been a few of them
- 18:37Speaker 1: that really hurt the line because it stopped distribution, it
- 18:40Speaker 1: just stopped ordering. We did get that stuff. And as
- 18:44Speaker 1: much as we want some of those deep cut guys,
- 18:46Speaker 1: some of those guys that are deep in the Ring
- 18:47Speaker 1: of Honor roster that were on ram page back in
- 18:50Speaker 1: the day, Like, I want all those guys, but I
- 18:52Speaker 1: don't know if the average Joe wants that. They wanted
- 18:55Speaker 1: the bucks they want Cody Rhodes and and you know,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and they gave us a lot of Cody Rhoads. They
- 19:00Speaker 1: gave us a lot of Bucks and Moxley's.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I do want to get a you know, sidebar real quick.
- 19:06Speaker 4: That was one of my first things I started to
- 19:09Speaker 4: notice that was kind of I just kind of made
- 19:12Speaker 4: me go interesting choice because I felt like there was
- 19:16Speaker 4: a few in those early series where there was another Jericho,
- 19:22Speaker 4: another Young Bucks, another Omega, and it was like a
- 19:26Speaker 4: lot of repeat guys. I mean, did you did you
- 19:29Speaker 4: feel the same way about that.
- 19:30Speaker 1: That big time? But it's like to me, I didn't
- 19:33Speaker 1: like it because it wanted to the birth. But at
- 19:35Speaker 1: the same time, I think for retail, you sit there
- 19:37Speaker 1: with those Walmart buyers, target buyers, Hey I got I'm
- 19:40Speaker 1: picking on Chuck Taylor, but hey we got Chuck Taylor.
- 19:43Speaker 1: And that Walmart guy says, who's Chuck Taylor? But you
- 19:45Speaker 1: say Chris Jericho, you say John Moxley.
- 19:48Speaker 4: So are they really like, I mean, you know, this
- 19:51Speaker 4: is probably more closer to your speech. So is that
- 19:53Speaker 4: are these actual conversations that are are being had by retail,
- 19:56Speaker 4: like who's you know? Like do they know who ken
- 19:59Speaker 4: you make?
- 19:59Speaker 1: Is and that's one of those things where, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 1: until just recently Stone Cold in the Mattel lines, Stone
- 20:05Speaker 1: Cold Steve Austin never had a mainline figure. It was
- 20:09Speaker 1: always a Legends or a Monday Night Wars or you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: whatever the exclusive series was. Because when you're trying to
- 20:15Speaker 1: sell your wares at the Bentonville or Minneapolis Target Walmart warehouses,
- 20:20Speaker 1: you're saying, hey, I got an exclusive hul Cogan figure
- 20:23Speaker 1: for you. Everybody knows hul Cogan, for good or bad.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Everybody knows hal Cogan. Do they know, you know, seth Rollins.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Maybe maybe not, And we all want to believe that
- 20:32Speaker 1: that buyer in that chair knows what the heck we're
- 20:35Speaker 1: talking about. But everybody knows haul Cogan. So that's what
- 20:38Speaker 1: you do to try to get, you know, stuff going.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And then Jeremy, I'm Jeremy's not the one going to
- 20:42Speaker 1: Target or whatever Walmart, but his salespeople are there. They're
- 20:46Speaker 1: trying to do everything they can to close the sale
- 20:48Speaker 1: out because it's so hard to get so expensive. They're
- 20:52Speaker 1: trying to bolster it, and they got to throw names
- 20:54Speaker 1: out there. And a guy like Jericho, as we know,
- 20:57Speaker 1: is a massive name. They can use Jericho to get
- 20:59Speaker 1: things going. So it's a whole play. I mean I
- 21:02Speaker 1: deal with it all the time. And I used to
- 21:04Speaker 1: sit in those meetings at Walmart and Bentonville and the
- 21:06Speaker 1: Target for other products, and it all comes down to
- 21:11Speaker 1: to the sizzle factor. What's going to be bring people
- 21:13Speaker 1: in through the front doors, and it's going to be
- 21:15Speaker 1: a hull Cogan over at Chuck Taylor.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, I you were mentioning the real thing.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Like for me, the one I saw a lot and
- 21:23Speaker 4: someone who's actually a friend of mine, Nila Rose, I
- 21:27Speaker 4: would always see her figure. Britt Baker would always have
- 21:31Speaker 4: a figure, so that you know, that will discourage, uh,
- 21:36Speaker 4: you know, distributors to be like, well we still haven't
- 21:38Speaker 4: gotten rid of the stock, so you know. And then
- 21:41Speaker 4: right around that time, I mean, this is where for
- 21:45Speaker 4: someone like me who's been in the wrestling figure collecting
- 21:47Speaker 4: game for a long time, and I know the difference
- 21:51Speaker 4: between a basic and an elite. So we had unmatched
- 21:56Speaker 4: and then unrivaled yep, and then supreme. Do you think
- 22:00Speaker 4: that that they were to me? I don't know what
- 22:03Speaker 4: the difference was between an unmatched and an unrivaled.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Same the packaging was the only difference. But it's a
- 22:09Speaker 1: retail play, is all that is is to the perfect
- 22:13Speaker 1: example in this day and age is like McFarland Toys.
- 22:17Speaker 1: There's the regular DC Multiverse, and then they got the
- 22:19Speaker 1: kind of all plastic they're called page Punchers, and then
- 22:22Speaker 1: they got the DC Collector's Edition. Three different lines, all
- 22:26Speaker 1: the same style, figures, all the same thing. But it's
- 22:28Speaker 1: a play to get more shelf space. You know, they're
- 22:31Speaker 1: gonna say to Jazzwar's or McFarland Toys, I'm not gonna
- 22:34Speaker 1: give you two or three pegs for this one line. Well,
- 22:38Speaker 1: now I got three lines, and now I get my
- 22:40Speaker 1: own pegs across that. So it's all a play on
- 22:43Speaker 1: that is what they were trying to do. And then
- 22:45Speaker 1: Jeremy and the Sea of the Jazzbars team, their hope was,
- 22:49Speaker 1: here's unrivaled. You know, in January it's on the pegs,
- 22:52Speaker 1: it sells out, and then here comes February unmatched. And
- 22:56Speaker 1: then you get something fresh, something old, something fresh, something old,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and try to stare step it a little bit and
- 23:02Speaker 1: always have something fresh and always have some old stock
- 23:04Speaker 1: your saw at the same time.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Right, And then they I don't know how far deep
- 23:10Speaker 4: they got into this. They did try to much like
- 23:14Speaker 4: you know, obviously Jeremy's I don't know to what extent,
- 23:18Speaker 4: but he's obviously at the helm of this. And we
- 23:21Speaker 4: you know, we saw the success he had with the
- 23:23Speaker 4: Classic Superstars figure, and then we hear, okay, we're gonna
- 23:27Speaker 4: start doing some Legends figures luminaries, that's right, And they
- 23:32Speaker 4: didn't really I don't know how far off they really
- 23:36Speaker 4: got off of that. The only thing I really remember
- 23:39Speaker 4: was seeing the Lionheart Jerkle. There was another one that
- 23:42Speaker 4: was sitting on the pegs for a while. What did
- 23:46Speaker 4: what did did you think? Did you have any did
- 23:49Speaker 4: you think that was gonna kind of have the same
- 23:51Speaker 4: success as the classic line or didn't.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I didn't think it would have the same success because
- 23:57Speaker 1: they weren't doing it separately. It was just a figure
- 23:59Speaker 1: inside of it, the unmatched lines, and if I remember correctly,
- 24:02Speaker 1: remember they started with their version as the l j
- 24:04Speaker 1: NS first, and then all right, they canceled it and
- 24:08Speaker 1: they replaced him with Luminaries, which I think made a
- 24:10Speaker 1: lot of people happy. But we got Jericho, we got Sting,
- 24:14Speaker 1: we got Rick Flair, and that might have been it
- 24:17Speaker 1: for the Luminaries, like we didn't get them every We
- 24:19Speaker 1: should have at least got one every set, and they
- 24:21Speaker 1: didn't do that.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I think, I mean it kind of
- 24:25Speaker 4: and then that's another thing gets muddy with the online
- 24:27Speaker 4: stuff with the Luminaries. Yeah, and it's you know, and
- 24:33Speaker 4: again we gotta go back with the TNA. TNA goes on,
- 24:38Speaker 4: they lose the toy Bibs license. I don't really remember
- 24:43Speaker 4: what happened with that. They ended up getting picked up
- 24:45Speaker 4: by Jacks, which just conveniently lost WWE, right, and was
- 24:51Speaker 4: do you know if Jeremy was still there at that
- 24:52Speaker 4: time when he was so.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It was interesting. And then I don't know if you
- 24:56Speaker 1: remember they had the Legends of the Ring line.
- 24:58Speaker 4: That's that's exactly was thinking. Seeing that Jeff Jarrett that
- 25:03Speaker 4: was that was warming up the pegs everywhere.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Jeff Jarrett Hogan. There was the Japan Hogan in that set.
- 25:10Speaker 1: They had a basically a modern curd Angle in that set. Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 1: who else was it? They did a Jeff Hardy RVD
- 25:17Speaker 1: two pack which I think might have been a Ring
- 25:19Speaker 1: Side exclusive, but I think a Raven Raven was in there.
- 25:23Speaker 1: That was a pretty good Raven. There might have been
- 25:25Speaker 1: one others in there.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's just like again, it's just kind of like,
- 25:29Speaker 4: I feel like Jazzers starts off with this hype and
- 25:34Speaker 4: this excitement from that like original TENA toy design, but
- 25:38Speaker 4: then towards the end it kind of it kind of
- 25:41Speaker 4: felt more closer to the Jack's TNA line with some
- 25:45Speaker 4: of the choices. Unfortunately, you mentioned the the LJN line.
- 25:50Speaker 4: This was a play that Jeremy first introduced during the
- 25:53Speaker 4: Classic Superstars line, which was kind of met with.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Some sort of mixed store.
- 26:00Speaker 4: He didn't go over very well. It was a hard Yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 4: what was the issue with the this iteration of their
- 26:08Speaker 4: their l jns? Especially now? Which is funny because obviously
- 26:11Speaker 4: we've seen the success of big Rubber guys to the
- 26:14Speaker 4: point that now Mattel has their own they brought back
- 26:17Speaker 4: l j and and what went wrong here with with aw.
- 26:21Speaker 1: It's still weird because you think they would have learned.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And I know it's easy to blame Jeremy, but Jeremy's
- 26:26Speaker 1: like in charge of a million things, so it's not
- 26:28Speaker 1: all on him. But I think most collectors think that
- 26:30Speaker 1: it's easy just to say Jeremy because he's kind of
- 26:32Speaker 1: the face. But the Classic Superstars one was a huge failure.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I was, you know, knee deep in that at the time,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and I didn't hate the idea of it, but we
- 26:40Speaker 1: all said, can't you just do a separate series of those,
- 26:43Speaker 1: don't put it inside the Classic Superstars. So there was
- 26:46Speaker 1: a lot of people down on that, and me being
- 26:49Speaker 1: an LJN kid as a little kid, I was, you know,
- 26:51Speaker 1: knew about the l JN. So they didn't go very well,
- 26:53Speaker 1: They weren't received very well, and then the sizing just
- 26:56Speaker 1: wasn't correct. It was too.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Small because they had to fit him into the same box.
- 26:59Speaker 4: That was the issue.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So it was like that was disappointing from the
- 27:03Speaker 1: get go. If they were the same size as el Jaan's,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I think people would have been, hey, all right, but
- 27:07Speaker 1: that was the issue, and you wish they would have
- 27:10Speaker 1: learned from that when they came out with the Jazzwars versions,
- 27:13Speaker 1: because you were backstuck almost in that same kind of
- 27:15Speaker 1: scaling going on. It just it wasn't l Jan's because
- 27:18Speaker 1: the size wasn't correct.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and who who did we I remember there was
- 27:22Speaker 4: a derby a Cody was two.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Cody's there was a Derby and there was another gosh
- 27:30Speaker 1: what was the other one? Two codies Derby, there was
- 27:34Speaker 1: another drawn a blank.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well I'm gonna if I could find find it,
- 27:40Speaker 4: we'll we'll throw it in here. I was just like
- 27:43Speaker 4: I was just looking up. Yeah, there was the the
- 27:45Speaker 4: Cody I mean, and they didn't look bad, but I did.
- 27:50Speaker 4: I never, I never myself never had them in hand
- 27:53Speaker 4: to oh see them, punk m punk. Oh that's right.
- 27:57Speaker 4: That was the one that was like a little uh,
- 27:59Speaker 4: a little questionable, you know. For me, it was my like,
- 28:05Speaker 4: my excitement for it was I got to see a
- 28:08Speaker 4: lot of my friends get their you know, the first
- 28:10Speaker 4: action figures, which was very cool. And I got to
- 28:12Speaker 4: see people that had been on the indies got their
- 28:15Speaker 4: first action figures. We saw Darby, Orange, Cassidy, So it
- 28:19Speaker 4: was cool. It was it was cool to see those
- 28:21Speaker 4: guys kind of jump in and get into the mix.
- 28:25Speaker 4: It felt like though, around I want to say, twenty
- 28:28Speaker 4: twenty four, things kind of took a bit. I don't know,
- 28:31Speaker 4: there was like a bit of a sagnation with it
- 28:33Speaker 4: where it was taken longer now for guys to come out,
- 28:38Speaker 4: and then by the time people would come out there
- 28:41Speaker 4: was you know, they were way outdated. I remember that
- 28:45Speaker 4: was always a talking point on the pod whenever someone
- 28:48Speaker 4: would come out, you know, and it sucks because, especially
- 28:52Speaker 4: the way of the wrestling businesses, it's like you could
- 28:54Speaker 4: be hot for this period and then the next period
- 28:57Speaker 4: you're off TV. It's like the Dark Order guys were
- 29:02Speaker 4: all over TV in the beginning, and then towards the
- 29:04Speaker 4: end they kind of phased out. Then that's when their
- 29:06Speaker 4: figures are coming out. Yeah, it's a harder sell yep.
- 29:10Speaker 1: For sure. And it's a deep cut to the generic
- 29:13Speaker 1: audience that's shopping at Walmart. They just don't necessarily know
- 29:15Speaker 1: who they are. And you know, a lot of it
- 29:18Speaker 1: it felt like the stagnation. I mean, it can almost
- 29:21Speaker 1: all directly be linked back to not turning that stuff
- 29:25Speaker 1: and clearancing stuff off the shelves, and you know a
- 29:27Speaker 1: lot of that really held up the momentum on the
- 29:30Speaker 1: line unfortunately. And I don't know if you remember how
- 29:33Speaker 1: they paid. It was a company called Anderson Merchandising. I
- 29:36Speaker 1: don't know if you've ever heard of that.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I have.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I've used them in my business day to day job
- 29:40Speaker 1: with in the year and I knew when they did that,
- 29:43Speaker 1: that's not who you want to be using. And I
- 29:44Speaker 1: think it played out they didn't help them that much
- 29:47Speaker 1: they were supposed to. Anderson Company was supposed to clear
- 29:49Speaker 1: the shelves of all the peg warmers. They did some stores,
- 29:52Speaker 1: but I got about fourteen Walmarts in my area, and
- 29:55Speaker 1: I bet you they didn't even clean off half of them,
- 29:57Speaker 1: but said they did and probably got paid for it.
- 30:00Speaker 4: So if you can like walk us through kind of
- 30:03Speaker 4: how does that work for stuff to get cleared out?
- 30:06Speaker 4: And then is this stuff that gets sent to like
- 30:09Speaker 4: a place like big lots or Yeah, so.
- 30:12Speaker 1: It depends on the company. But like this company, they
- 30:15Speaker 1: basically pay and this company Anderson in this example, they're
- 30:20Speaker 1: in this in Walmarts and Targets and whatever store they
- 30:23Speaker 1: need to and they're usually paid to do resets of
- 30:25Speaker 1: aisles if the aisles get moved around. They're just kind
- 30:28Speaker 1: of laborers that they bring in to help out with things.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And you know, they charge different things depending on what
- 30:33Speaker 1: the purpose is and what they need to do. They
- 30:36Speaker 1: were paid to go in and pull off you know,
- 30:38Speaker 1: they had a huge list of UPCs or whatever and
- 30:41Speaker 1: whatever those were. I forget at the time, where it
- 30:43Speaker 1: cut it back, but they were supposed to clear all
- 30:45Speaker 1: that off the shelf, put it in a box, and
- 30:47Speaker 1: I can't remember if it was all to be I
- 30:50Speaker 1: felt like it was supposed to be destroyed, maybe not,
- 30:52Speaker 1: or it was either supposed to be destroyed or sent
- 30:54Speaker 1: back to Jazzwars, and Jazzuars do whatever they want. And
- 30:58Speaker 1: I think, if I remember correct, they did a huge
- 31:00Speaker 1: toy for top thing around at aw around the holidays,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and they talked about Jazzuhears donating tons and tons of stuff,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and I think some of that was the recoup stuff
- 31:09Speaker 1: they got off the pegs at retail. But the problem
- 31:13Speaker 1: is when you pay somebody you know, ten dollars an
- 31:15Speaker 1: hour to go pull it off, you're not and these
- 31:18Speaker 1: are people like hired by the day. You're not necessarily
- 31:20Speaker 1: getting the best quality people. You're basically hiring people day
- 31:24Speaker 1: laborers and stumble to say, yep, I did it, and
- 31:27Speaker 1: then they just take their word for it and they
- 31:28Speaker 1: collect their ten dollars and nothing happened.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Did you think that when they started going kind of
- 31:38Speaker 4: online a little bit more with some more exclusives, that
- 31:41Speaker 4: there was maybe more potential there to go direct to
- 31:45Speaker 4: consumer with guys like you know, the Briscoes or yeah.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Some of the think if I was in their shoes,
- 31:53Speaker 1: and once again, neither of us know the details and
- 31:55Speaker 1: the financials and all that. We just played armshare quarterback.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But to me, with aw's not in the consumer's face
- 32:03Speaker 1: like WWE is. Grandma knows WWE. You know, they don't
- 32:07Speaker 1: maybe know AEW, I think the move would be to
- 32:10Speaker 1: move to online only. Obviously Ringside's a huge arm for them.
- 32:14Speaker 1: The Vault is a huge arm for them, and then
- 32:17Speaker 1: could you have got Amazon, could you have got Entertainment Earth?
- 32:20Speaker 1: Could they have done that kind of stuff? Now, maybe
- 32:22Speaker 1: Ringside wouldn't be okay with that because they want to
- 32:24Speaker 1: get the majority. I'm not sure of all that, But
- 32:26Speaker 1: I feel like the AW audience, more so than the
- 32:29Speaker 1: WWE audience, lends itself to online sales. I think it's
- 32:33Speaker 1: just a different base where WWE you got, you know, basically,
- 32:37Speaker 1: it's like the old starting lineups. Four to one hundred
- 32:39Speaker 1: and four was the age bracket. That's kind of WWE.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Where I feel like Aw' is probably thirteen to thirty
- 32:45Speaker 1: five or whatever that number is. It's a more of
- 32:48Speaker 1: a niche market than wide spanning like WWE to me,
- 32:51Speaker 1: and I think that lent itself to online sales better,
- 32:56Speaker 1: but they didn't quite go all the way in on that.
- 32:59Speaker 4: And I was looking at also, I just uh, I
- 33:02Speaker 4: just remembered too that they also had and I think
- 33:06Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure these were all unreleased, but they had
- 33:08Speaker 4: their own version of the Wrestling Buddies too.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Yeah, some of those got out. I think they were
- 33:15Speaker 1: Game Stop or something like. Yeah, they were a little smaller,
- 33:20Speaker 1: but yeah, they had those two, so they did try
- 33:22Speaker 1: to branch out. I forgot about those as well.
- 33:25Speaker 4: I do think we brought them up before obviously with
- 33:28Speaker 4: it's it is easy to be the scapegoat when you're
- 33:31Speaker 4: kind of like the face of it. But I think
- 33:33Speaker 4: people don't realize a person like Jeremy in a position
- 33:38Speaker 4: that he's in. I don't think he was like in
- 33:40Speaker 4: there direct h you know, day to day with this stuff,
- 33:45Speaker 4: because he's overseeing not just aw, he's seeing pokemon h
- 33:50Speaker 4: marsh what are they called squish mollows. Like he's seen
- 33:54Speaker 4: over these like huge properties that are making like big money.
- 33:57Speaker 4: So I don't think it's fair for.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Agree and he gets the funny thing is I mean
- 34:03Speaker 1: you see the Facebook groups, you see things like that,
- 34:05Speaker 1: like why can't they do this well at the end
- 34:07Speaker 1: of the day, like probably the one Squish Mellow of
- 34:11Speaker 1: Pikachu probably sold more than the entire.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Jazz where like probably, Yeah, it's crazy to think and
- 34:19Speaker 4: and you know, like I've seen what those things go for,
- 34:22Speaker 4: and it's the markup on that has to be, like
- 34:24Speaker 4: it's insane huge.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I mean, I've my two daughters for about four years
- 34:29Speaker 1: were one hundred percent of Squish Metals. We have a
- 34:31Speaker 1: room dedicated to Squish Metal still, I mean, it's crazy,
- 34:34Speaker 1: but yeah, I think people don't understand how big Jazz
- 34:38Speaker 1: Wears really is and how blip of a radar AEW
- 34:42Speaker 1: was to them. And honestly, I think without Jeremy, I
- 34:46Speaker 1: don't know if we would have ever got aw line
- 34:48Speaker 1: because he is a champion of wrestling, he's a wrestling fan.
- 34:51Speaker 1: It was more of a passion project for him.
- 34:53Speaker 4: It's got turn one, yeah.
- 34:57Speaker 1: And it finally got to a point where, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 1: the board of directors or whatever. So Jeremy, your little hobby,
- 35:03Speaker 1: you know, we we can't do this anymore, you know.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's and it is a shame because like you know,
- 35:10Speaker 4: we we mentioned a lot of the issues that went on,
- 35:14Speaker 4: but that's just more so to kind of detail, Okay,
- 35:17Speaker 4: where did this go wrong? But they did do a
- 35:19Speaker 4: lot of great stuff. So what I want to know is, like,
- 35:21Speaker 4: what was for you, what was like the holy grail
- 35:24Speaker 4: of the Jazzuar design, Like what was your favorite figure
- 35:27Speaker 4: that came out? What figure to you kind of like
- 35:31Speaker 4: encapsulated the Jazzwars ligne.
- 35:34Speaker 1: That's so fun to think back, I'm going to miss something,
- 35:37Speaker 1: but to get a first ever Blade Runner Sting was
- 35:40Speaker 1: pretty awesome, you know as a kid looking at like
- 35:43Speaker 1: PWI magazines as a kid and seeing for the first time,
- 35:45Speaker 1: just have my mind blown. Ultimate Warrior and Sting together
- 35:48Speaker 1: like that was like the dream when you're a little
- 35:50Speaker 1: kid on two different things. And to find out that
- 35:52Speaker 1: they were a tag team once upon a time was amazing.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So to finally get that was such an amazing cool thing.
- 35:58Speaker 1: And I like the other Sting too, and I think
- 36:00Speaker 1: they just started to scratch the surface on what they
- 36:02Speaker 1: could have done with Sting. So a lot of the
- 36:05Speaker 1: Sting stuff was amazing, But to me, the lasting legacy
- 36:09Speaker 1: is I really think they could go down as having
- 36:11Speaker 1: the best packaging as far as a wrestling company ever,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and I'm talking about like the exclusive ring sides and
- 36:18Speaker 1: some of the Vault stuff. The Acclaim three pack was amazing,
- 36:22Speaker 1: looking like the boom box. I mean, they had so
- 36:24Speaker 1: many cool inventive stuff. That Dan Housen one where it
- 36:26Speaker 1: opens up, it's like he's opening his cape. I mean,
- 36:28Speaker 1: there was so many cool package designs. The Blood and
- 36:31Speaker 1: Guts line was absolutely amazing.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Right, I mean, which you know, that's like a kind
- 36:37Speaker 4: of a innovation because again we hadn't seen that in
- 36:42Speaker 4: a long time bloody action figures. And then fast forward
- 36:46Speaker 4: it got to the point where Mattel finally kind of said,
- 36:49Speaker 4: all right, here we go. There's the Steve Austin colored
- 36:52Speaker 4: in blood, and I don't think that happens without the
- 36:55Speaker 4: Blood Guts line. The other one that to Jeff Hardy
- 37:00Speaker 4: with the light up to me, something that like sticks
- 37:04Speaker 4: out as like a home run figure. Uh That that
- 37:09Speaker 4: Orange Cassidy. I think it was like the first one
- 37:12Speaker 4: where you could put the hands in the pockets. I mean,
- 37:16Speaker 4: you know, they were they were far ahead of the curb.
- 37:18Speaker 4: And again they were doing stuff with the uh that
- 37:22Speaker 4: type of you know, this is like a de freedom
- 37:24Speaker 4: thing where they that type of plastic they use for
- 37:26Speaker 4: the pants where it's still playable. Brian has it on
- 37:30Speaker 4: the Creative Protests because he wrestled that capital not too
- 37:33Speaker 4: long ago, and I was like playing around with it
- 37:36Speaker 4: and it's like insane, you know. And now you see
- 37:39Speaker 4: that technology. Mattel kind of implemented it with the singlets,
- 37:43Speaker 4: you know, yeah, the Darby Allen too, with the just like.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yeah, the Coffin ones. I mean, there were so many
- 37:51Speaker 1: cool different stuff that came out with that just I
- 37:54Speaker 1: think it did push Mattel to do I mean, we've
- 37:56Speaker 1: seen some fancier package from Mattel as well to try
- 37:59Speaker 1: to keep up with some of that. Yeah, and really
- 38:02Speaker 1: is awesome.
- 38:03Speaker 4: And it's going to be interesting, like you said, to
- 38:05Speaker 4: see okay, now that this this aspect of it is gone,
- 38:09Speaker 4: like what is it? What's it gonna look? Is Mattel
- 38:12Speaker 4: gonna kind of are vague in to stagnique now or
- 38:15Speaker 4: you know? I mean, I mean, Mattel's at the top
- 38:17Speaker 4: of their game and they're gonna keep doing what they're doing.
- 38:19Speaker 4: They have a great team as well, and I'm also
- 38:23Speaker 4: kind of curious too because Jazz War's also had a
- 38:26Speaker 4: fantastic team of people and they had I know, I
- 38:30Speaker 4: knew one of the guys that was designing the figure.
- 38:32Speaker 4: So I hope that maybe those guys are able to
- 38:35Speaker 4: take their talent to other toy lines, you know, and
- 38:39Speaker 4: kind of help them out. You know.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I did a video a while back about it.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I mean, I hope that is the case. I mean,
- 38:44Speaker 1: we saw Magic, you know, go back over to Mattel.
- 38:47Speaker 1: You know, Magic probably has connections still over there Jazz Wears,
- 38:50Speaker 1: and we see Mattel adding more lines all the time,
- 38:53Speaker 1: like you know, the Masters w W universe coming back. Now,
- 38:56Speaker 1: they have the street Fighter line. I mean, there's more elites,
- 38:59Speaker 1: there's got money that work legends you got to excluded,
- 39:01Speaker 1: there's so much stuff to work on. Maybe they could
- 39:03Speaker 1: pick up some of these people in all of this.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Hopefully that's the case. You know, we'll see where it
- 39:09Speaker 1: goes business wise. I guess.
- 39:11Speaker 4: So as we're at this point now, you know, with
- 39:16Speaker 4: where we're at the license and everything's up in the air,
- 39:19Speaker 4: we don't really know anything. But if you had the guests,
- 39:22Speaker 4: if you had to, yeah, in your well wishes, where
- 39:27Speaker 4: would you like to see the aw line go. What
- 39:30Speaker 4: do you think the future of the line is? You know,
- 39:34Speaker 4: where could they go from here?
- 39:36Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm a betting man, I don't think
- 39:39Speaker 1: we ever get anything like jazz Wear's ever again. Whoever
- 39:42Speaker 1: makes them, They're not going to give us the amount
- 39:44Speaker 1: of product we've got over the last five six years,
- 39:47Speaker 1: whatever it's been. I just don't think that's possible. I mean,
- 39:50Speaker 1: we can throw Mattel out the window right away. They're
- 39:52Speaker 1: not going to make the figures. I think we all
- 39:53Speaker 1: know that. I don't think Hasbro will either. I mean,
- 39:56Speaker 1: it feels like Hasbro doesn't even want to make action
- 39:58Speaker 1: figures anymore. They're licensing out stuff left and right. It's
- 40:01Speaker 1: a whole weird thing there. And they've lost a ton
- 40:03Speaker 1: of designers recently. Uh, And I just don't know. I mean,
- 40:07Speaker 1: I could see possibly them partnering with you know, the
- 40:11Speaker 1: collect Majors of the World, Boss Fights of the World.
- 40:14Speaker 1: You know, we saw the aw L JN Style or
- 40:18Speaker 1: the Major bendorj mclick what am I looking for? The
- 40:21Speaker 1: big rubber guys, the aw big rubber guys, so we
- 40:27Speaker 1: could see more of things like that. But to think
- 40:29Speaker 1: we're gonna get set after set exclusive after exclusive. I
- 40:32Speaker 1: don't see any company doing that. The one company I
- 40:35Speaker 1: think that could do that, I'm not sure if they will,
- 40:38Speaker 1: would be McFarland Toy's. McFarland Toy's just recently lost the
- 40:42Speaker 1: DC license and they've got to, you know, for they've
- 40:45Speaker 1: got to plug those holes of miss sales somewhere. And
- 40:48Speaker 1: we've seen them gain a few different license We see
- 40:51Speaker 1: some image comic license coming to them. But maybe wrestling
- 40:54Speaker 1: is something new they've got they could get into. You know,
- 40:56Speaker 1: they've dabbled in UFC recently. Maybe we see that with
- 41:00Speaker 1: a I think that would be the best fit. I
- 41:02Speaker 1: don't know if it'd be the most popular fit out there,
- 41:05Speaker 1: but if you wanted figures on a pretty good release
- 41:09Speaker 1: pattern like Jazzwar's, McFarland's the only other company that kind
- 41:11Speaker 1: of could do that. I feel I.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Have one that's a little outside of the box. But
- 41:18Speaker 4: just thinking with his recent success in the recent product
- 41:23Speaker 4: that he's put out, and I just imagine that if
- 41:26Speaker 4: he had that little bit of extra rocket fuel with
- 41:29Speaker 4: a brand like AW, what it could do for company
- 41:33Speaker 4: like Zombie's Sailor Toys. Who I mean, we saw what
- 41:37Speaker 4: he's able to do something like this, Abby Butcher right here,
- 41:40Speaker 4: I got the pinnacle set. He's able to do something
- 41:43Speaker 4: like this on his own. Imagine what he could do
- 41:44Speaker 4: if he teamed up with, you know, a major company
- 41:47Speaker 4: like aw the video.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I broke it over like twenty minutes. I went through
- 41:51Speaker 1: about every company and what they could or couldn't do,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and I did talk about Zombie in there, and I
- 41:56Speaker 1: think it would be amazing to get that style figure.
- 41:59Speaker 1: But then if he did do that, you know, it
- 42:01Speaker 1: have to be the heaviest the heavy hitters at a
- 42:03Speaker 1: you know, fifty dollars price point or whatever it is.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Maybe they can knock it down a little bit. It
- 42:08Speaker 1: would they would be absolutely amazing. But yeah, I just
- 42:12Speaker 1: I don't know if anybody, I mean, when best case
- 42:14Speaker 1: scenario for Zombie. I think it would be kind of
- 42:16Speaker 1: like what Collect Major is done, and you know, they
- 42:19Speaker 1: get the license, they make a series one of big
- 42:21Speaker 1: rubber guys. Zombie would do something similar. Maybe it makes
- 42:24Speaker 1: four figures, maybe twice a year, eight figures a year
- 42:27Speaker 1: or something like that. And I think if it goes
- 42:29Speaker 1: to a boss fight, it goes to a Super seven,
- 42:31Speaker 1: it goes to Zombie or any of the other ones.
- 42:34Speaker 1: That's kind of what it would end up being. I
- 42:36Speaker 1: just don't think they're in a place where they could
- 42:38Speaker 1: turn and burn the product. And it's a wild thing.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Sometimes growth like that puts companies out of business. I
- 42:44Speaker 1: mean Walmart's the perfect example. They love something, they sign
- 42:48Speaker 1: them up, and then all of a sudden they can't
- 42:49Speaker 1: even compete and they go out of business. And I
- 42:51Speaker 1: can see that happen to a smaller company if.
- 42:53Speaker 4: That's their point. That's why I had you on to
- 42:57Speaker 4: talk about it, because you're a little more in the
- 43:00Speaker 4: know about this stuff. I'm just fantasy booking. One more
- 43:04Speaker 4: thing too, I wanted to mention we were talking about all
- 43:07Speaker 4: these kind of like innovations and cool things that they
- 43:10Speaker 4: were able to do in the time with Jazzuiar's we
- 43:14Speaker 4: forgot to mention too, they released the first six inch
- 43:21Speaker 4: owen Hart that had kind of you know, forgot Yeah,
- 43:25Speaker 4: that was and that was that was a big deal
- 43:27Speaker 4: when you know, who who would have ever thought, you know,
- 43:31Speaker 4: I mentioned who would have ever thought you'd have like
- 43:34Speaker 4: Johnny Silver action figure? But now who would have thought
- 43:36Speaker 4: you would have had an owen Hard figure? After all
- 43:37Speaker 4: these years and they were able to bridge that gap,
- 43:41Speaker 4: which you know, i'd like I'd like to think Jeremy
- 43:44Speaker 4: had something to do with that. The man did kind
- 43:47Speaker 4: of change the game with the Classic Superstars, so for sure.
- 43:51Speaker 1: And you know the other thing too that they really
- 43:52Speaker 1: brought to another level that Mattel's getting there as well.
- 43:55Speaker 1: But tattoo work on figures, I think they w brand
- 44:00Speaker 1: probably as the most tattooed amount of wrestlers ever assembled.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I would imagine they did. They did have that Brody
- 44:08Speaker 4: king right.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Yeah, the Malachi Blacks at the time were like next level.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I mean they killed it on that kind of stuff.
- 44:15Speaker 1: And yeah, it was really visionary and how they got
- 44:18Speaker 1: that done, and they got them done really good where
- 44:19Speaker 1: you can actually see them.
- 44:21Speaker 4: That's right, And I like I said, you know, it's
- 44:24Speaker 4: it sucks to see that it's gotten to this point,
- 44:26Speaker 4: but I mean there's a lot to be celebrated. So
- 44:29Speaker 4: I guess as things are where they are, do you
- 44:31Speaker 4: see this being a thing where uh you know these uh,
- 44:36Speaker 4: there's gonna be kind of an uptick on these figures
- 44:39Speaker 4: now that may no longer be in circulation, Like there's
- 44:42Speaker 4: gonna be uh you know, uh a rise in there
- 44:47Speaker 4: in the value of maybe some of the early series would.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I see happen. I hate it, but this usually happens.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Whenever a toy line goes under, people dump their collection
- 44:56Speaker 1: left and right. They're like, oh, it's over, I'm done,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I'm dumping it. So that's a perfect time to go
- 45:00Speaker 1: in if you have some missing pieces and one thing
- 45:03Speaker 1: I talked about, and I actually enjoy this aspect of collecting.
- 45:06Speaker 1: There's something fun, like, you know a lot of people
- 45:09Speaker 1: over COVID were trying to collect the Hasbros or the lgns.
- 45:12Speaker 1: It's a bookend collection. You know what your list is.
- 45:15Speaker 1: There's something fun about collecting when you know there's a
- 45:18Speaker 1: beginning and an end. You know, as Mattel e leads,
- 45:21Speaker 1: when are they gonna end? I don't think it's gonna
- 45:23Speaker 1: be anytime soon. Now people have an opportunity to go
- 45:26Speaker 1: back and say, you know, I was only forty figures short.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna go get those figures I needed. So I
- 45:31Speaker 1: think there'll be some of that. But I do feel
- 45:33Speaker 1: that once the word really gets out that it's really over.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I mean we still got figures coming through the rest
- 45:38Speaker 1: of the year. I mean we could talk through that too,
- 45:40Speaker 1: but once it's really over, and let's just say January
- 45:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven it's really over, I think you'll see
- 45:46Speaker 1: a massive dump of collections out there, and I think
- 45:49Speaker 1: if you're smart in your long game, you can pick
- 45:50Speaker 1: up some pieces at a pretty good price. But I
- 45:54Speaker 1: do think then it just takes years to put in
- 45:57Speaker 1: between there, and then we'll see the value rise as
- 45:59Speaker 1: time goes. Was on down the road, I mean, I
- 46:01Speaker 1: saw those classic Superstars. They dropped down to barely almost
- 46:05Speaker 1: worthless when the contract went away, and then they rose
- 46:07Speaker 1: big time.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and I think too there's also a
- 46:12Speaker 4: level of accessibility with AW that isn't as much with
- 46:17Speaker 4: WW in terms of you can get a good chunk
- 46:20Speaker 4: of these, you can get a whole set of these
- 46:22Speaker 4: guys signed, you know, like autograph. So that's you know,
- 46:26Speaker 4: that's something that maybe uh you know, to look after.
- 46:29Speaker 10: Yeah, AW, I mean in the podcast over, if you
- 46:35Speaker 10: get your figures cheap, buy them up, Like even if
- 46:37Speaker 10: you get them ten dollars a piece and you sell
- 46:39Speaker 10: them for thirty at your table.
- 46:40Speaker 1: It's a heck of a markup.
- 46:43Speaker 4: So as as it stands now, the last do you
- 46:47Speaker 4: know exact what the last line to be in a
- 46:49Speaker 4: retail is I think it would have been a series
- 46:54Speaker 4: eleven or twelve.
- 46:56Speaker 1: It was unmatched twelve maybe or unrivaled whatever that would
- 47:00Speaker 1: have been.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Yeah, which I think is like Moxley, there's unrivaled seventeen,
- 47:07Speaker 4: which was Christian Cage, Adam Copeland, uh, sort of Strickland,
- 47:12Speaker 4: Lucas Souris. I mean, look, I mean Ricky Ricky Starks
- 47:17Speaker 4: is in there, which I mean, you know again, that
- 47:21Speaker 4: just goes to say, I think who else, Jack Perry,
- 47:26Speaker 4: Mariah May again, there's someone you know, some of these
- 47:29Speaker 4: people that have jumped, but I you know, even then,
- 47:35Speaker 4: another to their point, to their credit, is the quality
- 47:39Speaker 4: didn't go down with these figures. They still even with
- 47:43Speaker 4: these last few lines, they're still kind of giving it.
- 47:45Speaker 1: They're all I only had two gripes with the line
- 47:49Speaker 1: as a whole, and you know, Mattel I got gripes
- 47:52Speaker 1: with them too. We've had issues with the hips, We've
- 47:54Speaker 1: had issues with the ankles the last few years. We've
- 47:56Speaker 1: had paint app issues. Nobody's free of issues, but jazzwear
- 48:01Speaker 1: has always had two things that got to me. One
- 48:04Speaker 1: it was a stylistic choice. The other one is a
- 48:06Speaker 1: true issue. The true issue was the staining of the figures.
- 48:09Speaker 1: They had so much staining from the soft goods for
- 48:12Speaker 1: so many years, and they finally got it fixed about
- 48:14Speaker 1: six months ago. But there's a lot of my figures
- 48:17Speaker 1: in my collection. If I took the shirts off them,
- 48:19Speaker 1: they'd be black and stained, which is super annoying.
- 48:22Speaker 4: And then you never you never watched you know, that
- 48:24Speaker 4: hack to wash them.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but the problem was most of them, I would
- 48:29Speaker 1: unbox them, like you know, you get them from ringside,
- 48:31Speaker 1: you're getting them first, right, they would be stained, already
- 48:35Speaker 1: already stained, I mean, and then just imagine if you
- 48:38Speaker 1: got that whatever figure eight months later, you know, once
- 48:42Speaker 1: it's been on pegs for a while, that thing's just
- 48:43Speaker 1: even worse at that point. So that's very frustrated. Then
- 48:47Speaker 1: the other issue I had, it's all stylistic. You like
- 48:49Speaker 1: what you like, you don't what you don't. But I
- 48:51Speaker 1: didn't like the unsightly pins and the elbows and the knees.
- 48:54Speaker 1: I like pendless.
- 48:55Speaker 4: Did they end up getting rid of those?
- 48:58Speaker 1: It's supreme, Supreme, we're penless. Yeah, Which it's like, man,
- 49:02Speaker 1: just just move to that, just move to that. And
- 49:04Speaker 1: I think Jazzuar's what if they would have dialed back
- 49:07Speaker 1: and did a few more Supremes a year and dialed
- 49:09Speaker 1: back the unmatched unarrival, that could have been something that
- 49:12Speaker 1: maybe would have had some legs.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Right well, I mean, like I said, we don't know
- 49:17Speaker 4: what the future holds. But I mean obviously as wrestling
- 49:20Speaker 4: figure fans, as wrestling fans, we want to see, you know,
- 49:24Speaker 4: aw succeed and we want to see the whatever the
- 49:26Speaker 4: future line is or is going to be. You know,
- 49:30Speaker 4: I want that to be a success, and I and
- 49:32Speaker 4: I hope it's something that is comparable to to what
- 49:35Speaker 4: we got because what we did get in that time,
- 49:38Speaker 4: there was a lot of great stuff there.
- 49:40Speaker 1: I mean, I would love to see I mean I
- 49:42Speaker 1: threw out a conspiracy theory Jesse Ventura style in my video.
- 49:45Speaker 1: I would love to see Tony Kahan. You know, we've
- 49:48Speaker 1: heard their breaking with pro wrestling teas. There's a lot
- 49:50Speaker 1: of different moves going on. Maybe Tony'll take all this
- 49:53Speaker 1: stuff in house. He'll do it himself, maybe hire his
- 49:56Speaker 1: own team and do everything. I mean, he's got deep pockets,
- 49:59Speaker 1: cut out the middleman, go straight to market his way.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I don't know, I could be overthinking that.
- 50:04Speaker 4: But I mean, hey, like he's got the ability to
- 50:07Speaker 4: do it, and there's a lot of again I mentioned Zombie,
- 50:10Speaker 4: but there's a lot of people out there that I think,
- 50:13Speaker 4: you know, you put the right team together, why not
- 50:16Speaker 4: you know?
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's he's a businessman, after all, his
- 50:19Speaker 1: whole family is. So I think there's an opportunity there.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Whether or not they want to proceed that way, who knows.
- 50:24Speaker 4: It feels like it's one of those things. It's like
- 50:28Speaker 4: you start a wrestling promotion and it's a no brain.
- 50:31Speaker 4: It's like you have to have the video game and
- 50:33Speaker 4: you have to have the action figures. Obviously shirts as well,
- 50:36Speaker 4: but like those.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Two I was gonna say those three.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Yeah, those three things, like you have to as a company,
- 50:43Speaker 4: you have to have these things as to be a
- 50:46Speaker 4: legitimate wrestling company, you know. I mean, you know, you
- 50:50Speaker 4: look at like how long Our Rage was around without
- 50:54Speaker 4: any product, right or even TNA after they lost the
- 50:58Speaker 4: Jack's license. It's something that's been messing for them to
- 51:01Speaker 4: this TNA. Now.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I mean we got that Joe Hendry, which I guess
- 51:04Speaker 1: is a TNA figure, but the Power Town, I mean,
- 51:06Speaker 1: that's a whole other video we could do.
- 51:08Speaker 4: That's a whole other thing.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you do ten videos on that, I think. But
- 51:12Speaker 1: but I mean TNA hasn't had anything forever. It's been forever.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's one of those things. I think that
- 51:17Speaker 4: it in the long run, it's like you you need
- 51:20Speaker 4: to just whatever reason you got, you got to have
- 51:23Speaker 4: the action figures. You know, it's part of the thing.
- 51:25Speaker 4: And I hope that that continues for AW and it
- 51:30Speaker 4: doesn't go the way of TNA or you know, all
- 51:34Speaker 4: these other companies like you need to. I'm sure they'll
- 51:38Speaker 4: find a way to keep it going.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think their fan base is in
- 51:42Speaker 1: an age and it's it's a window where I think
- 51:45Speaker 1: they would be receptive to Zombie Sailor style figures, Pinnacle figures,
- 51:48Speaker 1: and I think if you do twelve figures a year
- 51:51Speaker 1: or a figure a month or something like that and
- 51:54Speaker 1: work with Zombie and get it planned out, I mean,
- 51:56Speaker 1: I think that's something that could have legs. I think,
- 51:59Speaker 1: so who knows, who knows?
- 52:01Speaker 4: I think there's I mean, they just managed to get
- 52:04Speaker 4: some of their because that's the other thing too, right,
- 52:07Speaker 4: It is there's this initial excitement once the line gets
- 52:11Speaker 4: announced that. Okay, we're finally getting young buck figures. We're
- 52:14Speaker 4: getting keny Omega. Okay. So now fast forward a couple
- 52:17Speaker 4: of years later, what's new And you know it's also
- 52:21Speaker 4: on the company where they start building new stars. So
- 52:25Speaker 4: thankfully we were able to get guys like I think
- 52:27Speaker 4: to cash the his thing ended up coming out Osprey Okada.
- 52:34Speaker 4: So I mean, as long as AW keeps producing stars,
- 52:39Speaker 4: there's more costs to make figures. But I mean, if
- 52:41Speaker 4: it's gonna be the same guys, then what can you do, right, Yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 4: you can, you can make a clone or you know,
- 52:51Speaker 4: some of these lower card guys. But like you said,
- 52:54Speaker 4: people want they want the heavy hitters.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and retail wants the heavy hitters. So it's a
- 52:59Speaker 1: whole business. And that's the thing. You know, a lot
- 53:01Speaker 1: of us, this is our escape. This is the fun thing.
- 53:03Speaker 1: We don't want to put the business hat on and
- 53:05Speaker 1: think in business ways. But I think that's what the
- 53:08Speaker 1: majority of the people that are in Facebook groups and stuff.
- 53:10Speaker 1: They don't think of it as a business. Which everything's
- 53:12Speaker 1: a business. It all doesn't money, and you got to
- 53:15Speaker 1: take that step back every once in a while.
- 53:17Speaker 4: And I think too, like I these companies now are
- 53:21Speaker 4: starting to prove too that like retail, retail is in
- 53:25Speaker 4: every everything, right, especially with the way everything is going now.
- 53:29Speaker 4: Like I don't think it's you don't have to be
- 53:31Speaker 4: in retail. I don't think. I don't know. Again, I
- 53:34Speaker 4: don't know the numbers and the overhead and all that stuff.
- 53:36Speaker 4: But to say I have a figure on Target, it
- 53:39Speaker 4: is cool, but it's not. It's not the end will
- 53:43Speaker 4: be all.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a weird thing. I was just having a
- 53:46Speaker 1: conversation today and like the lutry thing, and this company
- 53:51Speaker 1: was talking to they're trying to find a supplier to
- 53:53Speaker 1: basically get their stuff to the stores, and they feel
- 53:56Speaker 1: without retail they're not going to make it. Which at
- 53:58Speaker 1: the end of the day, I guess a grocery item
- 54:00Speaker 1: you need retail. We need it because people aren't gonna
- 54:03Speaker 1: I mean, people do buy their grocers online more and
- 54:05Speaker 1: more every single day. But it's a little different where
- 54:08Speaker 1: I feel more comfortable ordering a pillow online than like
- 54:12Speaker 1: my bananas. Yeah yeah, my bananas M cup squished. It's
- 54:16Speaker 1: not the kind of color I want or whatever. So yeah, yeah,
- 54:20Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 54:21Speaker 4: Yeah, there is something to it, but you know, like
- 54:24Speaker 4: I think it is. Especially I look at now what
- 54:27Speaker 4: the market is for some of these figures, Like for Zombie,
- 54:31Speaker 4: he's going out to do these conventions. He had a
- 54:33Speaker 4: table set up at Russell Khan. We had this big
- 54:36Speaker 4: sure of creator pro. He was there with the with
- 54:39Speaker 4: his table. I think that's kind of the approach because
- 54:42Speaker 4: now it's like the customers are there half the time.
- 54:46Speaker 4: The guys that you're making the figures off there are
- 54:48Speaker 4: a couple of tables down.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Ye.
- 54:51Speaker 4: It's it's a little more palatable that way, I think,
- 54:53Speaker 4: and you're able to pick up the figure and see
- 54:55Speaker 4: it and you know, because that is that is definitely
- 54:58Speaker 4: a part of it. You know, like you look at
- 55:01Speaker 4: the quality every a lot of times, the quality difference
- 55:04Speaker 4: for each each guy. But like I say, it's not
- 55:08Speaker 4: that of the world, so they don't need the retail
- 55:11Speaker 4: but we'll see.
- 55:13Speaker 1: But ky yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you so much for coming on. It
- 55:18Speaker 4: was your big help. I mean, it is funny you
- 55:22Speaker 4: said like this, I'm a big fan of your channel
- 55:24Speaker 4: and everything, and this how this toylete kind of coincides
- 55:27Speaker 4: with uh would you say a coincided with the growth
- 55:30Speaker 4: of your channel.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that was like right around the time,
- 55:34Speaker 1: and like a lot of people, there was nothing to
- 55:35Speaker 1: do during COVID, and it's like, you know, it just
- 55:38Speaker 1: kind of snowballed into that And that was a big
- 55:40Speaker 1: part of the early part of my channel, where I'd
- 55:42Speaker 1: go on figure hunts, trying to find these aw palettes,
- 55:45Speaker 1: trying to find these aw figures and then even joking
- 55:48Speaker 1: about there's rio again, stuff like that. So it is
- 55:51Speaker 1: kind of the end of an era. In a lot
- 55:53Speaker 1: of ways, it is sad. I mean, I still got
- 55:55Speaker 1: my buddy Lando Calarissian out there to keep me company,
- 55:58Speaker 1: but outside of the I mean, it is sad. I mean,
- 56:02Speaker 1: and as wrestling fans, I mean, I've seen some people
- 56:04Speaker 1: cheering this on like oh great, they're out of business.
- 56:06Speaker 1: That's good, Like that's not good. No, I want competition
- 56:10Speaker 1: to make Mattel always be better. And you want another
- 56:12Speaker 1: option for you know, your buddies, Like you're saying, you're
- 56:14Speaker 1: friends with a lot of these guys, you want them
- 56:16Speaker 1: to have an extra payday and an extra way to
- 56:18Speaker 1: go it. And more wrestling is the better. It brings
- 56:20Speaker 1: more money to everybody, the more that's out there. So
- 56:24Speaker 1: it is it is a sad time and it'll be
- 56:26Speaker 1: interesting to see. And I mean, I think I talked
- 56:29Speaker 1: about this in my video twenty twenty six. When it's
- 56:32Speaker 1: all said and done, this could be one of the
- 56:33Speaker 1: most pivotal years and action figures of all time. With
- 56:37Speaker 1: a lot of the licenses that are coming to an end,
- 56:40Speaker 1: a lot of them are start I mean, I could,
- 56:41Speaker 1: I'll run through it quick. You've got DC going over
- 56:44Speaker 1: to Mattel from McFarlane McFarland. Losing DC is huge, Playmates,
- 56:49Speaker 1: losing teenage Ninja Turtles, first time since like nineteen eighty
- 56:53Speaker 1: seven they've been away from Playmates. They have went over
- 56:55Speaker 1: to Mattel. Mattel now holds the master license for Ninja Turtles.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Will they Neka to make action figures of Turtles anymore?
- 57:02Speaker 1: Like you got that whole thing. You've got Masters of
- 57:05Speaker 1: the Universe, which is one of the most popular figure
- 57:07Speaker 1: brands of all time. If this movie is a flop,
- 57:10Speaker 1: that's gonna kill Masters of the Universe probably for another generation
- 57:13Speaker 1: or so, we won't see anything anymore. So you got that,
- 57:16Speaker 1: and then now you got Jazz Wears with aw Levin.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I mean, there's so much going on. It's gonna be
- 57:22Speaker 1: interesting when the dust settles what action figure collecting looks like.
- 57:25Speaker 1: And then you throw on top of that target Walmart
- 57:29Speaker 1: cutting space down, giving more space to Lego, who is
- 57:32Speaker 1: the number one right now. I mean, there's so many
- 57:35Speaker 1: moving and shaking things, and I think a lot of
- 57:37Speaker 1: us don't realize what we're living in right now is
- 57:40Speaker 1: really a year from two from now is gonna be
- 57:42Speaker 1: a big difference.
- 57:43Speaker 4: Wow. Yeah, I didn't even think about that. And that's
- 57:45Speaker 4: the Lego theme is kind of interesting to me because
- 57:48Speaker 4: like they take up a lot of shelf space, but
- 57:51Speaker 4: their prices are are insane, and I can't imagine that
- 57:54Speaker 4: so many people are actively buying their products like that.
- 57:58Speaker 1: But I guess, yeah, I guess there's a company in
- 58:01Speaker 1: the world, you know. When you throw it all in there,
- 58:03Speaker 1: I mean, wow, it's amazing. I mean the price per
- 58:06Speaker 1: Lego is just crazy. It's like it was that way
- 58:09Speaker 1: when I was a kid. It's like ten times more
- 58:10Speaker 1: expensive now. I don't know how people afford it.
- 58:13Speaker 4: I I also putting on my Jesse Ventoria cap on here.
- 58:18Speaker 4: I have my own little conspiracy theory about the the
- 58:21Speaker 4: future of some of these legends deals with WWE with
- 58:26Speaker 4: a lot of stuff that's going on and just things
- 58:28Speaker 4: I've been hearing, you know, people talk about and legends
- 58:33Speaker 4: what they're saying. That's going to be interesting to see
- 58:36Speaker 4: where that goes in the future. But again that's something
- 58:39Speaker 4: that could open up for other people like Hastele and
- 58:42Speaker 4: Zombie and all these other sch So it's gonna be interesting.
- 58:46Speaker 4: Tell us a little bit about your channel. Where can
- 58:48Speaker 4: we find you? How often? What days are you posting?
- 58:51Speaker 4: Just to let let the If they don't know, I
- 58:53Speaker 4: assume they all do, they don't know.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Just a case. Yeah, I'm the James Brown YouTube. I
- 58:58Speaker 1: post for four new videos every single day.
- 59:01Speaker 4: So I don't know how for a day for a day.
- 59:04Speaker 1: So three on my main channel and my second channel
- 59:07Speaker 1: I do one video over there. So I mean I
- 59:08Speaker 1: put a ton of hours into it, and I always
- 59:11Speaker 1: tell everybody if they there's people that come to me
- 59:13Speaker 1: say I can't do one video a week, I'm like,
- 59:15Speaker 1: I do four every single day, and I have a
- 59:17Speaker 1: more than a full time job. So if I can
- 59:19Speaker 1: do it, anybody can do it. You just gotta want
- 59:21Speaker 1: it bad enough. But yeah, I do four videos every
- 59:24Speaker 1: single day between two YouTube channels. To search Kyle Peterson.
- 59:28Speaker 1: You can find me on social media as well. You
- 59:30Speaker 1: know Kyle Peterson. You search Kyle Peterson, you'll find what
- 59:32Speaker 1: you're looking for there. I got a Patreon bonus stuff,
- 59:35Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff. And then I did start a
- 59:38Speaker 1: podcast sixty weeks ago, So episode sixty coming out this
- 59:42Speaker 1: week or next week.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Here, here's to one hundred and one hundred more.
- 59:47Speaker 1: There you go, something like that.
- 59:49Speaker 4: Yeah, we actually had a I'm sure you saw this.
- 59:52Speaker 4: We actually had a viewing party for one of your
- 59:55Speaker 4: episodes when we were at there. We at the Major
- 59:57Speaker 4: House in Florida. Yeah, it was probably like about Powertown
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: or something that.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a whole I think I said in the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: video something about all the major guys they're not watching
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: this right now.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Yeah, we were all watching.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: It was funny. I laughed pretty hard. I was in
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: a meeting when you guys said that to me. I
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: was laughing pretty hard.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Yeah, man, we know we love what you do and
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: keep doing what you're doing. And again, man, thank you
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: so much for having me. Thank you for being a
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: part of the rewind. This is history. This is the
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: first time I've ever done anything like this, So thank you.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: For being the first one on here, and this was
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: a great, great help to be in here and really
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: kind of go through the line. I think it was.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: It was a really good retrospective.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I smell a new podcast between us. Bratch off.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: Let's do it, man, we got we could do we
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: could do sixty episodes on Powertown alone alone, exactly right?
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: All right, brother, is there an opportunity for a Coconokah, yeah, delightful,
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: it would be incredible.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Well, you've got John Cena on the line, John, how
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: are you doing today?
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: Should be hitting? I believe this quarter, and uh maybe
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: both ways to.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Hide behind that commissioners suff just so long until I jerk.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: A not in your ass.
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: Should be hitting. I believe this quarter, and uh maybe
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: both ways are hitting this quarter.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Parle me booker t Stevie Ray.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: You heard my brother.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: You put him in the hospital and I had to
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: go with the part's unknown and find a new partner.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Well I found that partner.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: It's myth podical.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: Come on in here, boy, and one thing for Peyton. Peyton,
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: the first guy you kiss can't be Papa John. Okay,
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: and listen, this is a big moment. First of all,
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: I have no idea. Why Papa John's on the field.
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: Shame on the NFL for having them on the field.
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: But if you have Peyton Manning, you have enough money.
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: The first guy you kiss can't be Papa John. Okay,
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: it can't be.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: It should be hitting eye. I believe this quarter and uh.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Warmer heavyweight champion and I have once don't gold locks
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: of a wife who.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Becauses my entry. I can no longer that sex with
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: my wife anymore. On one of the biggest legends stars Hurler, God,
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: what about.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: That one you've got?
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: Oh there's jumpings Yeah, Farmers, Yeah, a whole back.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: What a Matthew head with Modley yep.
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: Probably the hardest bet I ever had in my life.
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: So I don't like it.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: When things aren't going my way.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Motley Kruz, you turn the tables on me.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: You turn the tables in a wrong way. Twenty ten,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein calls me and says, you want to go
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: to my island?
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Yep?
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Yeah, where's the terminal?
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Former heavyweight champion and I have one stone cold fox
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: of a wife.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Whoa. But you know what, I'm rock hard right now
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: with emotion. I got a phoner.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Till they plant. You can't run and hide from me anymore.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: And when we come to Philadelphia this time, there's gonna
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: be no mistaken what's gonna happen.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: I'm gonna come on you.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Like nobody's ever come on you before.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: No baby doll at your side, nobody to run distraction
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: for you, just you and I getting it on like two.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Men should do.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: This isn't some game.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: This is where men are men and the boys stay
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: on the side and watch what was going on.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Free request ready, harlem, me.
- 1:04:07Speaker 9: Should be hitting. I believe this quarter.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: And yep, free request.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Go to.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Hell, hell, hell, hell, You've got me mad.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Now I'm gonna I'm gonna reveal something about myself that
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: I would probably prefer people didn't know, right, you know,
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: I kind of like growing up, right, even though I
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: was this huge sports fan.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Dude, I was at Dungeons and Dragons Hunky.
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: I actually, I.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Literally I'll give him one of a and I'll get.
