  first time ever as a pure spectator.

  I'm friends with see people on fans of, I get to be Petty, I

  get to talk trash in the stands. The baby is here, T's here, I'm

  survived the job scuffing. Listen, I got to sit in the

  stands tonight tonight and watch a track meet Hello.

  I feel like I haven't done that in Forever even though I did it

  a couple times this year because baseball has been all-consuming

  in my life and I mean, look, that's what it's supposed to do.

  That is my job, but man, survived is the right word and

  shout out to the American Airlines Wi-Fi on the airplane.

  Well, will briefly go into some little highlights of the current

  heat weapons that were speaking of World Championships.

  And we've got some point that we wanted to take the perspective
• 3:46
  of the panel that you know, just overall.

  Are we feeling about championships are exotic Locale,
• 3:53
  how are you feeling with the fans?
• 3:55
  How is up down up the competition.
• 4:02
  So to be 24 point of reference, you know, for the audience
• 4:06
  whenever they see the show on Friday, we just finished what
• 4:10
  night five, right, six. Yes, nice six.

  So we are, you know, a little bit more than halfway through.
• 4:18
  So we're only going to be able to give perspective on the first
• 4:22
  half of things, but that's where we are.

  We'll have the will do it again, right?

  So your perspective leads overall, is that we're asking?

  What is this point? Yes, I'm having a great time.

  The rumors of empty stadiums and all that.
• 4:46
  I don't know what y'all are talking about or what you
• 4:48
  looking at on television. The, the stadium is full.
• 4:53
  It is fantastic. And I want to clarify this point
• 4:56
  because people are stupid, right?

  When when you say a thing, like we all understand common
• 5:08
  understanding of language, right?
• 5:10
  If you go to an event and you say, the stadium is empty.
• 5:16
  You literally, we all understand it.
• 5:18
  No one means literally, there's no humans there.
• 5:21
  There are people there but it's relatively empty.
• 5:25
  So people when we say the stadium is full, know, every
• 5:29
  seat is Occupied nor would, every seat be occupied at the
• 5:34
  Super Bowl or the NBA finals or anything else but make no
• 5:40
  mistake about it. The stadium is full and has been
• 5:42
  full and it's been fantastic to see and to feel and the crowds
• 5:49
  are loud. They are engaged and all the
• 5:52
  athletes understand that, and are getting the benefits of that
• 5:56
  American and Nam. So, you know, people I really
• 6:00
  need to stop with the excuses and stop with the what's the
• 6:05
  propaganda stadiums fully off and it's great.
• 6:12
  Yeah, I know my take is has been a phenomenal change.
• 6:15
  I think I said this last week, I have never been to a bad
• 6:19
  championships and a bad meat. I'm sorry in this building and I
• 6:24
  didn't expected this meat would be a bad ones for all the great
• 6:27
  talent we have here. I mean I mean, are there some
• 6:32
  snafus? I mean like you know the guy
• 6:33
  decides to stand in the middle of the track down the Steep only
• 6:36
  that's snafu, you know. I'm a little baffled as to why
• 6:44
  we're not running inlay 9 but running in they won and I was
• 6:47
  told us because there's cameras and Lane nine but this that's
• 6:52
  not right. But I mean it is what it is and
• 6:55
  I know there's been some people Americans and it's a it doesn't
• 6:59
  feel like a world campus as well.

  That's because you're used to the ncaa's and USA's being.

  So of course, then flight works right?

  Yeah, but it is wolves and so then the day I think that, you

  know, the sea It's critics, you know, the people out there that
• 7:13
  want to bash, what's going on in Eugene, there's plenty of, trust
• 7:18
  me. On four occasions, I've had to

  stand in the in line to go to the bathroom for occasions
• 7:32
  protective so, so so just perspective like you don't very
• 7:36
  rarely, do you see men's bathrooms with lines, right?
• 7:41
  So to understand like it wasn't just one so, you know me.
• 7:45
  Oh, that's just one. I'm gonna go in this one.

  And there's one. It is a lot like you better
• 7:51
  stay. Live free gonna matter, right?

  Because it was line everywhere, you know, and so it wasn't like
• 7:57
  in on some nothing going on. There was stuff going on in the

  stadium and it was just, it was, it's been great.

  You did. There's lots of the concession

  stands Clyde noses. It's very hard to get out when
• 8:10
  the meats, hold on. Oh God, it takes for it takes

  forever. We linger for a good 20, 30

  minutes because we're not trying to walk through the code file.

  I mean, that's what took us so long, to be honest, right?

  Like we, yeah. yeah, we first of all we had to leave with a baby

  and everybody wants to stop and see the baby but yeah I mean

  there's I didn't want to cut, I don't want to cut off your time
• 8:31
  but I just wonder I agree with you.

  Like it's it takes a minute to get about it at that for sure.

  Yeah. So then the day it's been, it's
• 8:39
  been phenomenal for me. I've been here seems like way
• 8:42
  too long, but it has been a great Championship.

  We've seen Great Performances, the crowds have been large and
• 8:51
  Loud engaged. It's been phenomenal and the
• 8:56
  number of Jamaicans here. Yeah.

  They showed up. Now they are horns and all
• 9:05
  Google. Zilla's who was Ella's room?

  Has a loser. I know what I mean.

  You know that? What that was, but I got it now

  because we've heard a bunch of those were brought to the world.

  Those are brought to the world, and we're coming.

  Yeah, World Cup. And, and then South Africa,

  World Cup in South Africa in the Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

  Where those two? Those two things, first met
• 9:33
  those things first came really blasting out to the world and
• 9:35
  it's like, oh boy. We found an incredibly cheap way
• 9:38
  to make an incredible out of a lot of loud noise.

  And they have tell you what, I would love to do that.

  I would love to be a who's ala salesman because food.

  Oh yeah. So I'll give my very brief take
• 9:51
  on this. I'm a little more aggressive
• 9:55
  than my wonderful compatriots because they're being nice to
• 9:57
  you as fans if you had an opportunity.

  T to be here. And you're not, you made a life

  choice. That was poor.

  We were having this conversation in stands today, like I don't

  think the World Championships so ever come to United States
• 10:13
  again. And if it does it will be a long
• 10:16
  time for a lot of reasons, you know, track and field is very
• 10:21
  Euro centered. You know, there will be
• 10:25
  legitimate concerns about some of the Visa issues.
• 10:30
  The other issue obviously is and people have seen this like
• 10:34
  because you're now the years, Don't match up again but because
• 10:38
  European championships for this year, they are definitely some
• 10:40
  people who just chose not to even participate.
• 10:43
  So, and because world's is here, it's in early July.
• 10:47
  So there's a chance that it won't be here again in your
• 10:51
  lifetime. And I'll say the I've been in an
• 10:55
  incredible number track and field stadiums.
• 10:59
  This is probably the best one to be honest.

  And I will say Not going to a world championship in your home.
• 11:11
  Country is like not going to the Olympics in your home country.
• 11:16
  Like, if you have a chance to create like life-changing
• 11:19
  memories, And you don't do it. Like, I promise you, you will
• 11:24
  regret that, right? Because World Is Awesome on TV,
• 11:28
  no matter where it is, but when you can be in the building,
• 11:33
  there's nothing better. And I'm personally, there's Is
• 11:39
  this is just a track is better in person.
• 11:42
  Track is better in person, so that's my take world has been
• 11:47
  amazing. Watching it on television, it
• 11:48
  was even more amazing today watching Stadium.
• 11:51
  I'll be in the stadium every day from now to the to the end of it
• 11:56
  and whatever logistical things that anybody has any complaints
• 12:00
  about trust me. When I tell you I've been to
• 12:02
  almost every single World Championship since 1995 and
• 12:05
  there were logistical things. At all of them.

  Because it's a world, it is a world competition, right there,
• 12:17
  logistical things that every World Cup, their logistical
• 12:19
  things that every Olympics because at the end of the day,
• 12:22
  when you're bringing, you know, hundreds of countries from
• 12:26
  everywhere to one place, they're going to be some logistical
• 12:30
  things that you that you couldn't possibly prepare for.
• 12:33
  And at the end of the day it's like, can you can you react and
• 12:37
  overcome and do that? And that's the judge of whether
• 12:40
  the place. Should have had the championship
• 12:42
  in the first place that I would definitely say Eugene is doing
• 12:46
  an incredible job because I thought for sure when I got here
• 12:49
  traffic was going to be insane parking was going to be insane
• 12:53
  restaurants were going to be insane.
• 12:55
  I promise you none of those three things have happened and
• 12:58
  it's not because people are here, it's not going to people
• 13:00
  on here. They have managed the flow of
• 13:03
  human beings incredibly well here.
• 13:09
  Governor from the outside looking in.

  What are your thoughts? Well, so I remember putting some
• 13:16
  thoughts together after the first couple days and again,
• 13:22
  this is me from the outside looking in.
• 13:25
  And, you know, the first thing that struck me, this has to be
• 13:30
  one of the first World Championships.
• 13:32
  If not, the only World Championships, probably out.
• 13:38
  Side of maybe Helsinki or some place like that.
• 13:42
  Where we said we were seeing finals in broad daylight that
• 13:47
  that's something that's, you know, it kind of struck me as
• 13:53
  you know, just different different kind of slammed I, you
• 14:01
  know, I'm you know, being being a romantic and you know of Of,
• 14:08
  you know, the the great world championship moments.
• 14:13
  You know, I'm thinking purely of under the lights, you know, full
• 14:18
  Stadium under the lights and, you know, having that, you know,
• 14:21
  I mean, they couldn't possibly, for instance, do the light show
• 14:27
  that they didn't in. Yeah.
• 14:30
  But are, you know, like it couldn't do that in Eugene,
• 14:34
  right? So that, that was the Thing that
• 14:38
  popped into my head, you know, Lamar pretty much, you know, I
• 14:46
  laid my fears by the other fear that I had, was it, you know,
• 14:51
  you bring the world to a city like Eugene.
• 14:54
  I mean, it, it had the makings of a logistical nightmare right
• 14:59
  that for sure, right? For sure.

  So, you know what's, what's obvious?
• 15:05
  What has to be obvious? Is that That people bussing in
• 15:10
  from Portland, from Corvallis. I mean, is that what we're
• 15:15
  seeing right now and in heading back, you know, after the
• 15:19
  sessions? And, you know, if that's the
• 15:22
  case, then kudos to those companies, kudos to the
• 15:26
  transportation companies, from making sure that it's a smooth
• 15:32
  transition back and forth. The other thing that You know
• 15:38
  again when it first happened I was like you've got to be
• 15:42
  kidding me, you're telling me, they're the medal ceremony is
• 15:46
  being, that's not happening. Like you just giving the metal
• 15:50
  right there on the track that was the best.

  Like whoa whoa wait a minute but no they are having their moment,
• 15:58
  they're still doing the podium Awards but again it's Enough
• 16:08
  that I can I consider him pontificate all you want?

  What I'm seeing for the first time in my lifetime is American
• 16:19
  athletes. Get the adulation.
• 16:24
  At home feeling the love from the fans.
• 16:32
  The USA is already at 19 medals okay.

  Great great. They are absolutely doing the
• 16:40
  damn thing, okay? And you know it's high time that
• 16:45
  this happened, right? Like you know, we're talking
• 16:48
  about 84, we're talking about it's been that long since we've
• 16:54
  had, you know, the opportune 96, you know, incense American
• 17:00
  athletes, and then Come off of covid on top of it.
• 17:04
  So you're coming off of the Olympics in an empty Stadium
• 17:08
  right to this. I mean it's no it's no wonder
• 17:14
  that we're seeing actually eats go above and beyond right now
• 17:17
  and put down some really really good markers.
• 17:24
  All the above. And I think that's why some of
• 17:26
  them when we are having these. Let's call it non-preferred
• 17:30
  performances happening. They send a little bit more,
• 17:34
  right? Just because, like, you had this
• 17:36
  expectation of of this wonderful performance.

  You know, whether it's tickets to qualifying rounds or get
• 17:42
  through qualifying rounds, through finals.
• 17:44
  Whatever it is, and it doesn't happen.

  It hurts because you've got your country at your back, trying to
• 17:50
  support you and you trying to just pull them along with you.

  So, Good point. Good point.

  So now I'm going to ask you very pointed questions for some great

  answers so I think they're going to be a variance if you cancer.

  What has been the best performance for you all since
• 18:10
  day one? I mean this was a toss-up for

  me. I got to go to Ryan krauser

  Shuffle, and I'm going with krauser because No Big Joe
• 18:30
  Gibson ring closed. A big throw goes to the league
• 18:35
  Ryan's about step in the ring. They stopped him because those
• 18:39
  are about to start, we have the false start issues and all that
• 18:42
  stuff and he's I keep waste like 78 minutes and it's like, you

  know, most people get ice and Iran krauser.

  He walks in the ring and he's your old camping, taking the
• 18:54
  championship record. So that that was the performance
• 18:57
  of the need for me so far. Hey, okay.

  Try out a stroke. Peacock, Watchers USA, Watchers

  NBC Watchers. We didn't know that happened.

  We're going to get to the petty cash, but I'm just, you know

  what I mean? Like, because that changes

  like, well, I was way better, but mine for the suspected that

  This is going on and of course you know I look to see what

  say this like I've Loved These world championships as a fan.

  like, it's just I've really enjoyed watching it, but I'm

  gonna go with with Jacey. because, No American female is

  ever had. The number one throw in the

  world and the expectations that come with it going into World
• 20:22
  Championships and then it had to that it being on us soil where
• 20:27
  she's expected to win. And then she dominated And I

  just thought that was really, really impressive and the Layman
• 20:39
  will think. Well, of course she was supposed
• 20:40
  to win. She's number one in the world.

  Like they don't understand like that, almost guarantees you
• 20:44
  won't in some cases. And so I was, I was impressed
• 20:48
  with that. Me.

  I mean what Shelly-Ann Fraser price did in 100, is I mean she

  said a championship record, okay.

  Like we have seen some of the greatest runners in the world,

  compete at these World Championships year after year.

  After year this young this Considered you know, 35 years
• 21:21
  old, you know, a mother, you know, ups and downs.

  You know, she she was you know, you had a lane doing what she
• 21:31
  did last year, she comes to these World Championships having
• 21:35
  dropped, you know, three times under 1070, she comes to the
• 21:40
  World Championships, runs 1067. And I mean, kudos to Shelly and
• 21:48
  her coach. I mean it pretty amazing stuff
• 21:53
  that that race was not for the squeamish.
• 21:57
  I mean, it was unbelievable, you know and I think you know, way
• 22:06
  down the line we'll probably looking back at this generation
• 22:10
  of sprinters, you know, they're going to be up there in the
• 22:15
  pantheon of the greatest ever mean.

  Sleep with technology with new tracks, all of that stuff, you
• 22:21
  know, we expect things to change and people to get faster.
• 22:26
  But boy, that that hundred meter final lived up to its billing.

  Well, since the governor took mine to happen, Performance

  performance, yes. Best performance for me, always

  is a little contextual and and there are performances to come,

  please believe. But for me, and I've been in the

  building every single, every single night, There's a lot of

  young people here for the first time.

  And getting here is hard enough. Being the absolute best version

  of yourself when you were literally taking on the world

  for the first time, as a whole, nother level of things.

  And for me, Cameron Rogers, got a silver medal in the women's
• 23:27
  hammer throw. She is a child in this event
• 23:33
  like your this is not one of these events where it's not the
• 23:36
  hundred where you know, you're 19 or 20 or 21 you got, you
• 23:41
  know, you typically got a shot most usually you got to be
• 23:44
  headed towards late 20s early 30s.
• 23:46
  Before you figure out how to do this thing for real and she
• 23:49
  walked in this building and got a silver man.
• 23:51
  Now, I'm, you know, I'm close to that situation and you can call
• 23:56
  that a homer pick, but I also know what it took to get into
• 24:01
  that. And in context, you don't have
• 24:04
  to get the gold in order to, to show the best of performances.

  And I was thoroughly impressed with that because I understand
• 24:12
  she could accompany me here. Got a bronze or, no metal at
• 24:15
  all. And her season wouldn't have
• 24:16
  been any less spectacular for her to rise up in that moment.

  And Ever like that. Incredible and for and if Lamar

  can correct me, if I have this wrong, that is the first time in
• 24:30
  the history of the world that you have in all North American
• 24:33
  podium in the woman's hand so incredible.

  Yes, it is absolutely the first time in the world.

  Those are all North American Podium, but as in a bigger

  context, is this? Because I didn't know this

  until. So one of my Canadian friends

  told me that they see First Canadian female field event

  metal at World Championships ever ever.

  There's been a lot of that not have that going on at these

  championships. Raise that, by the way I feel

  like any time JC Lee is announced or presented.

  They just need to show the pictures of her running in high
• 25:18
  school crappy. So get it was 100 a girl Forget

  just show that this young lady is an athlete.

  Okay, she was gonna be a hit. Wow, wow.

  Wow, my quick to sense just the men's contingent for chocolate

  their performance of pajama. Nate the podium I thought was

  pretty phenomenal. And, you know, States they stuck

  their noses out, peace, pipe, early, and kept them there as

  best as possible, you know. So, I thought that was pretty

  phenomenal. Where they just did that
• 25:57
  switching, lanes lane to what is your biggest upset thus far?

  We take people who always do the always perform at a certain

  level for granted vast. I Cunningham not making the

  final in the high jump. Was shocking, like jaw-dropping

  to me, definitely thought she had a chance of metal here and

  there was literally no world that I thought that this she

  wouldn't make the vinyl. Or among she made a bar stop.

  That's what they made tubule. She made two dollars.

  Well it's not that late. Then I only saw the three jumps

  but you know it just it just reminds you of the brutality of

  a global sport, right? Like fast, I has made finals, a

  global championships all over the world and we bring one, you

  know, To our to our house and she's jumped in Eugene, a bunch.

  She made the final and it's it was amazing, was shocking to me.

  And so we talked about saying, I think about enough something I'm

  thinking about somebody that when an event that was

  unexpected. Hmm, okay, I'm gonna go with the

  goddamn laundry. If anybody has it figured out

  one than that. And I mean he obviously knew he

  won the race but go look at the replay and watch his face when

  he crossed the line. No way.

  And and it's not like they ran slows.

  And like it was a tactical. Weird.

  No, he's coming over here and took it to the hell of a race,

  hell of a race. And that, you know, that you
