- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to
- 0:03present to you the audio version of their weekly Friday Night,
- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. Well, it's about that time and
- 0:15gentlemen, about that time. We are definitely exhausted
- 0:18recorder show. I'm done that are covered that
- 0:40the sets better than counted, you know, it all counts.
- 0:43It all counts. So Governor, how are you doing
- 0:47tonight, sir? Greetings from the great North
- 0:52up in Toronto, hanging out with some family.
- 0:56It's been six years since I've seen my brother's my nieces
- 1:02nephews. Yeah, that's good.
- 1:06To be back up here. And, but up all night watching
- 1:11the what's in the me, you know, down in the basement right now.
- 1:17You've been banished to the basement.
- 1:20This is my world, so glad to be here, Love It Wide.
- 1:25How about yourself sir, how are you tonight?
- 1:28Great, I'm in Eugene, Oregon at the world championships for the
- 1:33first time ever as a pure spectator.
- 1:35And I'm happy. And a ball.
- 1:39You could eat your popcorn and enjoy the me.
- 1:42I get a I get to sit around CC people.
- 1:44I'm friends with see people on fans of, I get to be Petty, I
- 1:47get to talk trash in the stands. The baby is here, T's here, I'm
- 1:52having a ball. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, Lamar I
- 1:57survived the job scuffing. Listen, I got to sit in the
- 2:02stands tonight tonight and watch a track meet Hello.
- 2:06I feel like I haven't done that in Forever even though I did it
- 2:09a couple times this year because baseball has been all-consuming
- 2:13in my life and I mean, look, that's what it's supposed to do.
- 2:16That is my job, but man, survived is the right word and
- 2:21shout out to the American Airlines Wi-Fi on the airplane.
- 2:26Otherwise I probably wouldn't had two guys drafted.
- 2:30Oh My Gosh, good looking out. Good looking out.
- 2:34Thank you need a hat. It's the worst place on the
- 2:37planet to be when you literally know that you are dependent upon
- 2:41the Wi-Fi on an airplane. All right.
- 2:47Well, surely sure. I think the busiest man.
- 2:49On the tile, I mean Lightworks light work, you know, whatever
- 2:55how you doing tonight sir? Well, you know, I'm well, maybe
- 2:59a little little fatigued, but no, I'm holding up pretty good.
- 3:05Question is the question is, why I sir lucious still working
- 3:08last? I was told he's a college coach.
- 3:12That's right. That's why I can't coach
- 3:13professional accountant. My bad.
- 3:15How dare I, you're so extra out of your lane, get back in your
- 3:21lane. That's, that's what does, right?
- 3:25Oh my gosh, he spouts the truth. That's what, that's what he was
- 3:29told. I was a college, coach, I don't
- 3:31know what I'm doing, man. Oh man, oh man, oh man.
- 3:35Well, will briefly go into some little highlights of the current
- 3:40heat weapons that were speaking of World Championships.
- 3:42And we've got some point that we wanted to take the perspective
- 3:46of the panel that you know, just overall.
- 3:51Are we feeling about championships are exotic Locale,
- 3:53how are you feeling with the fans?
- 3:55How is up down up the competition.
- 4:02So to be 24 point of reference, you know, for the audience
- 4:06whenever they see the show on Friday, we just finished what
- 4:10night five, right, six. Yes, nice six.
- 4:15So we are, you know, a little bit more than halfway through.
- 4:18So we're only going to be able to give perspective on the first
- 4:22half of things, but that's where we are.
- 4:24We'll have the will do it again, right?
- 4:31So your perspective leads overall, is that we're asking?
- 4:35What is this point? Yes, I'm having a great time.
- 4:42The rumors of empty stadiums and all that.
- 4:46I don't know what y'all are talking about or what you
- 4:48looking at on television. The, the stadium is full.
- 4:53It is fantastic. And I want to clarify this point
- 4:56because people are stupid, right?
- 5:01When when you say a thing, like we all understand common
- 5:08understanding of language, right?
- 5:10If you go to an event and you say, the stadium is empty.
- 5:16You literally, we all understand it.
- 5:18No one means literally, there's no humans there.
- 5:21There are people there but it's relatively empty.
- 5:25So people when we say the stadium is full, know, every
- 5:29seat is Occupied nor would, every seat be occupied at the
- 5:34Super Bowl or the NBA finals or anything else but make no
- 5:40mistake about it. The stadium is full and has been
- 5:42full and it's been fantastic to see and to feel and the crowds
- 5:49are loud. They are engaged and all the
- 5:52athletes understand that, and are getting the benefits of that
- 5:56American and Nam. So, you know, people I really
- 6:00need to stop with the excuses and stop with the what's the
- 6:05propaganda stadiums fully off and it's great.
- 6:12Yeah, I know my take is has been a phenomenal change.
- 6:15I think I said this last week, I have never been to a bad
- 6:19championships and a bad meat. I'm sorry in this building and I
- 6:24didn't expected this meat would be a bad ones for all the great
- 6:27talent we have here. I mean I mean, are there some
- 6:32snafus? I mean like you know the guy
- 6:33decides to stand in the middle of the track down the Steep only
- 6:36that's snafu, you know. I'm a little baffled as to why
- 6:44we're not running inlay 9 but running in they won and I was
- 6:47told us because there's cameras and Lane nine but this that's
- 6:52not right. But I mean it is what it is and
- 6:55I know there's been some people Americans and it's a it doesn't
- 6:59feel like a world campus as well.
- 7:01That's because you're used to the ncaa's and USA's being.
- 7:04So of course, then flight works right?
- 7:05Yeah, but it is wolves and so then the day I think that, you
- 7:10know, the sea It's critics, you know, the people out there that
- 7:13want to bash, what's going on in Eugene, there's plenty of, trust
- 7:18me. On four occasions, I've had to
- 7:24stand in the in line to go to the bathroom for occasions
- 7:32protective so, so so just perspective like you don't very
- 7:36rarely, do you see men's bathrooms with lines, right?
- 7:41So to understand like it wasn't just one so, you know me.
- 7:45Oh, that's just one. I'm gonna go in this one.
- 7:47And there's one. It is a lot like you better
- 7:51stay. Live free gonna matter, right?
- 7:54Because it was line everywhere, you know, and so it wasn't like
- 7:57in on some nothing going on. There was stuff going on in the
- 8:00stadium and it was just, it was, it's been great.
- 8:04You did. There's lots of the concession
- 8:05stands Clyde noses. It's very hard to get out when
- 8:10the meats, hold on. Oh God, it takes for it takes
- 8:12forever. We linger for a good 20, 30
- 8:15minutes because we're not trying to walk through the code file.
- 8:18I mean, that's what took us so long, to be honest, right?
- 8:20Like we, yeah. yeah, we first of all we had to leave with a baby
- 8:24and everybody wants to stop and see the baby but yeah I mean
- 8:27there's I didn't want to cut, I don't want to cut off your time
- 8:31but I just wonder I agree with you.
- 8:33Like it's it takes a minute to get about it at that for sure.
- 8:37Yeah. So then the day it's been, it's
- 8:39been phenomenal for me. I've been here seems like way
- 8:42too long, but it has been a great Championship.
- 8:47We've seen Great Performances, the crowds have been large and
- 8:51Loud engaged. It's been phenomenal and the
- 8:56number of Jamaicans here. Yeah.
- 9:01They showed up. Now they are horns and all
- 9:05Google. Zilla's who was Ella's room?
- 9:08Has a loser. I know what I mean.
- 9:10You know that? What that was, but I got it now
- 9:14because we've heard a bunch of those were brought to the world.
- 9:19Those are brought to the world, and we're coming.
- 9:22Yeah, World Cup. And, and then South Africa,
- 9:26World Cup in South Africa in the Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
- 9:29Where those two? Those two things, first met
- 9:33those things first came really blasting out to the world and
- 9:35it's like, oh boy. We found an incredibly cheap way
- 9:38to make an incredible out of a lot of loud noise.
- 9:41And they have tell you what, I would love to do that.
- 9:45I would love to be a who's ala salesman because food.
- 9:48Oh yeah. So I'll give my very brief take
- 9:51on this. I'm a little more aggressive
- 9:55than my wonderful compatriots because they're being nice to
- 9:57you as fans if you had an opportunity.
- 10:00T to be here. And you're not, you made a life
- 10:05choice. That was poor.
- 10:08We were having this conversation in stands today, like I don't
- 10:11think the World Championships so ever come to United States
- 10:13again. And if it does it will be a long
- 10:16time for a lot of reasons, you know, track and field is very
- 10:21Euro centered. You know, there will be
- 10:25legitimate concerns about some of the Visa issues.
- 10:30The other issue obviously is and people have seen this like
- 10:34because you're now the years, Don't match up again but because
- 10:38European championships for this year, they are definitely some
- 10:40people who just chose not to even participate.
- 10:43So, and because world's is here, it's in early July.
- 10:47So there's a chance that it won't be here again in your
- 10:51lifetime. And I'll say the I've been in an
- 10:55incredible number track and field stadiums.
- 10:59This is probably the best one to be honest.
- 11:04And I will say Not going to a world championship in your home.
- 11:11Country is like not going to the Olympics in your home country.
- 11:16Like, if you have a chance to create like life-changing
- 11:19memories, And you don't do it. Like, I promise you, you will
- 11:24regret that, right? Because World Is Awesome on TV,
- 11:28no matter where it is, but when you can be in the building,
- 11:33there's nothing better. And I'm personally, there's Is
- 11:39this is just a track is better in person.
- 11:42Track is better in person, so that's my take world has been
- 11:47amazing. Watching it on television, it
- 11:48was even more amazing today watching Stadium.
- 11:51I'll be in the stadium every day from now to the to the end of it
- 11:56and whatever logistical things that anybody has any complaints
- 12:00about trust me. When I tell you I've been to
- 12:02almost every single World Championship since 1995 and
- 12:05there were logistical things. At all of them.
- 12:11Because it's a world, it is a world competition, right there,
- 12:17logistical things that every World Cup, their logistical
- 12:19things that every Olympics because at the end of the day,
- 12:22when you're bringing, you know, hundreds of countries from
- 12:26everywhere to one place, they're going to be some logistical
- 12:30things that you that you couldn't possibly prepare for.
- 12:33And at the end of the day it's like, can you can you react and
- 12:37overcome and do that? And that's the judge of whether
- 12:40the place. Should have had the championship
- 12:42in the first place that I would definitely say Eugene is doing
- 12:46an incredible job because I thought for sure when I got here
- 12:49traffic was going to be insane parking was going to be insane
- 12:53restaurants were going to be insane.
- 12:55I promise you none of those three things have happened and
- 12:58it's not because people are here, it's not going to people
- 13:00on here. They have managed the flow of
- 13:03human beings incredibly well here.
- 13:09Governor from the outside looking in.
- 13:10What are your thoughts? Well, so I remember putting some
- 13:16thoughts together after the first couple days and again,
- 13:22this is me from the outside looking in.
- 13:25And, you know, the first thing that struck me, this has to be
- 13:30one of the first World Championships.
- 13:32If not, the only World Championships, probably out.
- 13:38Side of maybe Helsinki or some place like that.
- 13:42Where we said we were seeing finals in broad daylight that
- 13:47that's something that's, you know, it kind of struck me as
- 13:53you know, just different different kind of slammed I, you
- 14:01know, I'm you know, being being a romantic and you know of Of,
- 14:08you know, the the great world championship moments.
- 14:13You know, I'm thinking purely of under the lights, you know, full
- 14:18Stadium under the lights and, you know, having that, you know,
- 14:21I mean, they couldn't possibly, for instance, do the light show
- 14:27that they didn't in. Yeah.
- 14:30But are, you know, like it couldn't do that in Eugene,
- 14:34right? So that, that was the Thing that
- 14:38popped into my head, you know, Lamar pretty much, you know, I
- 14:46laid my fears by the other fear that I had, was it, you know,
- 14:51you bring the world to a city like Eugene.
- 14:54I mean, it, it had the makings of a logistical nightmare right
- 14:59that for sure, right? For sure.
- 15:01So, you know what's, what's obvious?
- 15:05What has to be obvious? Is that That people bussing in
- 15:10from Portland, from Corvallis. I mean, is that what we're
- 15:15seeing right now and in heading back, you know, after the
- 15:19sessions? And, you know, if that's the
- 15:22case, then kudos to those companies, kudos to the
- 15:26transportation companies, from making sure that it's a smooth
- 15:32transition back and forth. The other thing that You know
- 15:38again when it first happened I was like you've got to be
- 15:42kidding me, you're telling me, they're the medal ceremony is
- 15:46being, that's not happening. Like you just giving the metal
- 15:50right there on the track that was the best.
- 15:53Like whoa whoa wait a minute but no they are having their moment,
- 15:58they're still doing the podium Awards but again it's Enough
- 16:08that I can I consider him pontificate all you want?
- 16:12What I'm seeing for the first time in my lifetime is American
- 16:19athletes. Get the adulation.
- 16:24At home feeling the love from the fans.
- 16:32The USA is already at 19 medals okay.
- 16:35Great great. They are absolutely doing the
- 16:40damn thing, okay? And you know it's high time that
- 16:45this happened, right? Like you know, we're talking
- 16:48about 84, we're talking about it's been that long since we've
- 16:54had, you know, the opportune 96, you know, incense American
- 17:00athletes, and then Come off of covid on top of it.
- 17:04So you're coming off of the Olympics in an empty Stadium
- 17:08right to this. I mean it's no it's no wonder
- 17:14that we're seeing actually eats go above and beyond right now
- 17:17and put down some really really good markers.
- 17:24All the above. And I think that's why some of
- 17:26them when we are having these. Let's call it non-preferred
- 17:30performances happening. They send a little bit more,
- 17:34right? Just because, like, you had this
- 17:36expectation of of this wonderful performance.
- 17:39You know, whether it's tickets to qualifying rounds or get
- 17:42through qualifying rounds, through finals.
- 17:44Whatever it is, and it doesn't happen.
- 17:45It hurts because you've got your country at your back, trying to
- 17:50support you and you trying to just pull them along with you.
- 17:52So, Good point. Good point.
- 17:57So now I'm going to ask you very pointed questions for some great
- 18:03answers so I think they're going to be a variance if you cancer.
- 18:07What has been the best performance for you all since
- 18:10day one? I mean this was a toss-up for
- 18:19me. I got to go to Ryan krauser
- 18:24Shuffle, and I'm going with krauser because No Big Joe
- 18:30Gibson ring closed. A big throw goes to the league
- 18:35Ryan's about step in the ring. They stopped him because those
- 18:39are about to start, we have the false start issues and all that
- 18:42stuff and he's I keep waste like 78 minutes and it's like, you
- 18:46know, most people get ice and Iran krauser.
- 18:50He walks in the ring and he's your old camping, taking the
- 18:54championship record. So that that was the performance
- 18:57of the need for me so far. Hey, okay.
- 19:02Try out a stroke. Peacock, Watchers USA, Watchers
- 19:09NBC Watchers. We didn't know that happened.
- 19:12We're going to get to the petty cash, but I'm just, you know
- 19:16what I mean? Like, because that changes
- 19:17everything. Because I had my moment and I'm
- 19:19like, well, I was way better, but mine for the suspected that
- 19:22I was given not to this perspective that I can t, so
- 19:25that, whatever the point that out, right?
- 19:34This is going on and of course you know I look to see what
- 19:37grants doing. I see Grant walk over into his
- 19:40tractor, on the turn-by-turn, start watching the shoplet and I
- 19:43do I'll go first off, I just I'll
- 19:59say this like I've Loved These world championships as a fan.
- 20:03like, it's just I've really enjoyed watching it, but I'm
- 20:08gonna go with with Jacey. because, No American female is
- 20:17ever had. The number one throw in the
- 20:18world and the expectations that come with it going into World
- 20:22Championships and then it had to that it being on us soil where
- 20:27she's expected to win. And then she dominated And I
- 20:34just thought that was really, really impressive and the Layman
- 20:39will think. Well, of course she was supposed
- 20:40to win. She's number one in the world.
- 20:41Like they don't understand like that, almost guarantees you
- 20:44won't in some cases. And so I was, I was impressed
- 20:48with that. Me.
- 20:54I mean what Shelly-Ann Fraser price did in 100, is I mean she
- 21:04said a championship record, okay.
- 21:07Like we have seen some of the greatest runners in the world,
- 21:12compete at these World Championships year after year.
- 21:15After year this young this Considered you know, 35 years
- 21:21old, you know, a mother, you know, ups and downs.
- 21:28You know, she she was you know, you had a lane doing what she
- 21:31did last year, she comes to these World Championships having
- 21:35dropped, you know, three times under 1070, she comes to the
- 21:40World Championships, runs 1067. And I mean, kudos to Shelly and
- 21:48her coach. I mean it pretty amazing stuff
- 21:53that that race was not for the squeamish.
- 21:57I mean, it was unbelievable, you know and I think you know, way
- 22:06down the line we'll probably looking back at this generation
- 22:10of sprinters, you know, they're going to be up there in the
- 22:15pantheon of the greatest ever mean.
- 22:18Sleep with technology with new tracks, all of that stuff, you
- 22:21know, we expect things to change and people to get faster.
- 22:26But boy, that that hundred meter final lived up to its billing.
- 22:34Well, since the governor took mine to happen, Performance
- 22:49performance, yes. Best performance for me, always
- 22:53is a little contextual and and there are performances to come,
- 22:57please believe. But for me, and I've been in the
- 23:00building every single, every single night, There's a lot of
- 23:06young people here for the first time.
- 23:10And getting here is hard enough. Being the absolute best version
- 23:15of yourself when you were literally taking on the world
- 23:18for the first time, as a whole, nother level of things.
- 23:21And for me, Cameron Rogers, got a silver medal in the women's
- 23:27hammer throw. She is a child in this event
- 23:33like your this is not one of these events where it's not the
- 23:36hundred where you know, you're 19 or 20 or 21 you got, you
- 23:41know, you typically got a shot most usually you got to be
- 23:44headed towards late 20s early 30s.
- 23:46Before you figure out how to do this thing for real and she
- 23:49walked in this building and got a silver man.
- 23:51Now, I'm, you know, I'm close to that situation and you can call
- 23:56that a homer pick, but I also know what it took to get into
- 24:01that. And in context, you don't have
- 24:04to get the gold in order to, to show the best of performances.
- 24:08And I was thoroughly impressed with that because I understand
- 24:12she could accompany me here. Got a bronze or, no metal at
- 24:15all. And her season wouldn't have
- 24:16been any less spectacular for her to rise up in that moment.
- 24:21And Ever like that. Incredible and for and if Lamar
- 24:27can correct me, if I have this wrong, that is the first time in
- 24:30the history of the world that you have in all North American
- 24:33podium in the woman's hand so incredible.
- 24:38Yes, it is absolutely the first time in the world.
- 24:41Those are all North American Podium, but as in a bigger
- 24:45context, is this? Because I didn't know this
- 24:47until. So one of my Canadian friends
- 24:49told me that they see First Canadian female field event
- 24:56metal at World Championships ever ever.
- 25:00There's been a lot of that not have that going on at these
- 25:03championships. Raise that, by the way I feel
- 25:08like any time JC Lee is announced or presented.
- 25:15They just need to show the pictures of her running in high
- 25:18school crappy. So get it was 100 a girl Forget
- 25:22just show that this young lady is an athlete.
- 25:27Okay, she was gonna be a hit. Wow, wow.
- 25:31Wow, my quick to sense just the men's contingent for chocolate
- 25:40their performance of pajama. Nate the podium I thought was
- 25:43pretty phenomenal. And, you know, States they stuck
- 25:46their noses out, peace, pipe, early, and kept them there as
- 25:49best as possible, you know. So, I thought that was pretty
- 25:52phenomenal. Where they just did that
- 25:57switching, lanes lane to what is your biggest upset thus far?
- 26:04Hmm. In your biggest upset.
- 26:29Okay, I got mine. So I'll go first.
- 26:38We take people who always do the always perform at a certain
- 26:43level for granted vast. I Cunningham not making the
- 26:48final in the high jump. Was shocking, like jaw-dropping
- 26:53to me, definitely thought she had a chance of metal here and
- 26:58there was literally no world that I thought that this she
- 27:02wouldn't make the vinyl. Or among she made a bar stop.
- 27:09That's what they made tubule. She made two dollars.
- 27:14Well it's not that late. Then I only saw the three jumps
- 27:17but you know it just it just reminds you of the brutality of
- 27:22a global sport, right? Like fast, I has made finals, a
- 27:26global championships all over the world and we bring one, you
- 27:31know, To our to our house and she's jumped in Eugene, a bunch.
- 27:38She made the final and it's it was amazing, was shocking to me.
- 27:45And so we talked about saying, I think about enough something I'm
- 27:48thinking about somebody that when an event that was
- 27:50unexpected. Hmm, okay, I'm gonna go with the
- 27:54goddamn laundry. If anybody has it figured out
- 27:58that mr. Huntington Coast.
- 27:59To launch of communication. That's very high level.
- 28:02Don't, I can't remember the guys name.
- 28:04I apologize to he and Randy but we were sitting there make
- 28:08Klein. I said there again and to do
- 28:11came flying down the runway. And so we took all clogged with,
- 28:14oh shit. No.
- 28:26So yeah. That was a very, very
- 28:29impressive. Very impressive.
- 28:32Mine is. I mean, this seems so clear to
- 28:36me Jake wigman in the 1500 upset everybody.
- 28:44Yes, he did. And it, and it's one of the
- 28:47cooler stories of the Championships and will remain.
- 28:50So if you, if you weren't watching it live, his father is
- 28:54the announcer. So, think about that.
- 28:58Yeah, cup income, Britain. Timothy Chariot.
- 29:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:03None of that. Nope.
- 29:05Jake wigman went out there in front of his father on the
- 29:09microphone. Yep.
- 29:10And pulled off. Probably the upset of the
- 29:13Championships. I don't know what else is about
- 29:16to happen, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger
- 29:19one than that. And I mean he obviously knew he
- 29:21won the race but go look at the replay and watch his face when
- 29:25he crossed the line. No way.
- 29:27And and it's not like they ran slows.
- 29:29And like it was a tactical. Weird.
- 29:31No, he's coming over here and took it to the hell of a race,
- 29:37hell of a race. And that, you know, that you
- 29:40talking about a memory, that'll be there forever. 20 years from
- 29:43now that will still be cool and that story will still be cool.
- 29:48Well, my biggest upset came tonight in The discus and, you
- 29:57know, for Miss Fang Fang been To throw a 3 m PB on her first
- 30:07throw and immediately two of the best throwers in the world that
- 30:16have been going at each other for the last three years or.
- 30:20So, all of a sudden, they had to figure some stuff out real quick
- 30:26line and you can see the pressure It was building with
- 30:32each throw and, you know, neither one could figure it out
- 30:37and you know what, makes it more confounding and I've been in
- 30:41their shoes before where it's not that Fang.
- 30:45They know that that Ben had done anything, they hadn't done for
- 30:50right throwing over 7 m. 7t m. It doesn't they've done that
- 30:54before, but it wasn't to be, it wasn't to be today and and The
- 31:01discus, you know, and I've had more and more exposure to the
- 31:06discuss with, you know, or throwers on at UTSA and you
- 31:10know, and kind of watching the the psychology of that event.
- 31:15Oh my holy cow. Like it can be, you can be on
- 31:21one day and the next day it's like and it is it is one of
- 31:26those events that, you know, I would compare it.
- 31:31You know, to, you know, to, you know, to the long jump, you
- 31:34know, from a personal perspective where like you can,
- 31:39you can go pretty much off the cliff.
- 31:41If you're not careful, if you're not locked into your Technique
- 31:46and staying true to what you're doing, you could see Valerie,
- 31:50you know, starting to try to throw far, you know, and the
- 31:55dancing and all of that started to go away when he's throwing
- 31:58your decide. Wow, you know, you're on.
- 32:01Home turf, You're Expecting. You're Expecting the result and
- 32:06it just didn't happen tonight. So credit to miss been for, you
- 32:13know, going out there and you know you you know that is that
- 32:18is as good as it gets to throw 3 m PB at the World Championships,
- 32:22win the gold medal kudos to you hats off to you.
- 32:28Well, and the comment again from the outside.
- 32:30Looking in, we don't know this, right?
- 32:32We don't we don't feel the temperature or the conditions.
- 32:34They said, on the first round of throws, there is a headwind.
- 32:37There was a head when you and then they had wooden died.
- 32:40Yeah, you're working up. Even more of a pill bottle
- 32:44absolutely to be more on, right? Or get to have less of an aide
- 32:48person. My life isn't fair, you know.
- 32:54Yeah, exactly. You know and we know And I
- 32:59again, I haven't been in a stadium, but can you imagine
- 33:02that happening in the 200? You know, where the first round
- 33:06goes out. The first semi goes off, and
- 33:09they've got this crazy tailwind and then all of a sudden, what
- 33:11if he dies down off? Man.
- 33:13You know, that's, that's, that's not about the long jump.
- 33:17Oh, yeah. Yeah, same thing.
- 33:21One of the things I thought was really cool about that.
- 33:23Competition. That's totally going to be lost
- 33:25to most people. Is that a Collegian got fourth?
- 33:28Yeah, when clinking and clanking, yah, just just missed,
- 33:38just missed my predictions. Oh wow.
- 33:44All right, lane number three. What's been the biggest?
- 33:46Surprise? This far.
- 33:48I'll go first because this is not a positive one.
- 33:57And I feel like Everybody's going to have an opinion on
- 33:59this. The my biggest surprise was the
- 34:04ending and the things that all the shenanigans that went into.
- 34:09It of the men's 110 hurdles men's 110, hurdles was just a
- 34:16debacle now that doesn't take anything away from what Grant
- 34:20did props to him well-deserved world champion.
- 34:24No one thought that he was going to be out there in a lane with
- 34:26no one to his left. No one.
- 34:28To his right basically running by himself.
- 34:31Yeah. Right.
- 34:33The to watch Hansel parchment go down in a warm-up rep.
- 34:39Five minutes before the gun was shocking enough.
- 34:42Yeah. And then, of course, the
- 34:44disqualification of Devon Allen for the.
- 34:49I'm going to say that the most bullshit false start calling
- 34:52I've seen in my life. So there is a lot of context
- 34:57there, but if you're asking me surprised at the word you're
- 35:00asking me is surprise oh no one saw any of that coming.
- 35:04Some people had Grant winning. I'm one of them so that's not
- 35:07the surprise. But how we got there, easily the
- 35:10biggest surprise for me and just very anticlimactic, and the
- 35:16false start thing. I can't.
- 35:17I can't let it go. Like, I'm really upset about
- 35:19that. Well, my my biggest surprise.
- 35:28Is Jake Whitman. I mean Whiteman Whiteman.
- 35:33Is it white men? There's G in there somewhere.
- 35:36Yes, yes yes, white W. IG HT Whiteman.
- 35:43I'm sitting here just waiting for ingebrigtsen to just pour it
- 35:50on pull away and it didn't happen.
- 35:54And I'm sitting there and I'm just like this is going to be
- 35:57another one of those World Championships where Whatever you
- 36:02thought go ahead and I'm think that's go ahead.
- 36:07Threw it out the window, whatever.
- 36:09Whatever you bet on whatever you made you know you for sure this
- 36:14is a for sure bet. This is this is what's going to
- 36:16happen. Nope.
- 36:18It just wasn't there for him today and and and then you know
- 36:23the story I mean a story lines is Mom and Dad in the stands,
- 36:27unbelievable, you know but that that Was, you know, that was one
- 36:33of those seminal moments. And I'm curious to know what
- 36:38happens from here on out. Because if anybody knows, well,
- 36:43how will the British press works, and how the Brits work?
- 36:50It's almost and I hate to say it, I hate to say it, but it's
- 36:56it's it's not necessarily a good thing.
- 37:01When you go out and win a championship and for the people
- 37:04in our sport, you know exactly what I'm talking about because
- 37:09this young man is going to have more pressure on his shoulders
- 37:14than he's ever had in his life, right?
- 37:18And and how he deals with it, how he deals with the accolades,
- 37:22everything is going to be thrown at him is going to determine,
- 37:27you know, the success for the rest of his career, you know?
- 37:31And I don't envy him. I can tell you that flat-out.
- 37:36I've seen it happen and I don't envy him an.
- 37:40But again, kudos to him unbelievable race, enjoyed it
- 37:46immensely and it reminded me again, you know, on the day.
- 37:51That's that's what, that's what counts.
- 37:54Are you ready on the day? He was ready today.
- 37:58Yesterday. Sorry.
- 37:58Yes, I'm the most surprising thing.
- 38:01I saw was the performance of the men's US men's 800 meter Runners
- 38:07today, we did not see that happening.
- 38:10I mean, I'm not bashing anybody mean, you know, it's Athletics,
- 38:13things happen, but there's no way I saw that happen.
- 38:18It was brutal away. Yes, was like with the amount of
- 38:21talent we have there. Now obviously, everybody just
- 38:23had a bed but there's nobody, that's all that happened.
- 38:27Again, you know the one guy that gets through, he's too cute.
- 38:32So let's just run it. All right there.
- 38:34But but run through it loses because, you know, people aren't
- 38:38necessarily watching. They might be learning this from
- 38:40us. So we had three in the
- 38:42competition, right? Yep.
- 38:44Brazier the typos and who, you know, which, of course full
- 38:50appraisal Brazier. Hypo college and Brandon Miller
- 38:55Brenda Miller here. So, Brazier runs 146, the hyper
- 38:59was 147, the Miller runs 147, which like, they were all better
- 39:06than high school. Right.
- 39:07Right. I mean, hi Booboo in a collision
- 39:11but it just, it just wasn't their diet that I guess.
- 39:15I'm not bashing them by their coaches or anything like that.
- 39:18It just had a bad night, but like, there's no one in that
- 39:21state and I thought that there would be no one in the
- 39:23semi-final together for the u.s., right?
- 39:25It's the first round. Is that square root of K into
- 39:31the longer races? The men couldn't, they had no
- 39:35Ethiopians metal. Wow.
- 39:39She says what she says with a gigantic Grim.
- 39:43No, but it's crazy though because I do have the to
- 39:45ugandans 1 and 3 and then the Kenyans but like that's when was
- 39:50last time that happened? I don't know.
- 39:52But like that's not something you just think of you always
- 39:55assume that there's going to be an Ethiopian or Ethiopian in the
- 39:58mix. So I thought that was really big
- 40:01surprise planned for the best young athletes.
- 40:07That's far. I'll go first and You know,
- 40:17you're going to have to remind me on the predictions and all of
- 40:20that, but I did not have Melissa Jefferson making the fun.
- 40:27I did not think that she would be able to keep everything
- 40:31together for those three rounds. She proved me wrong and I think
- 40:39we are on the cusp. I think we're about to see the
- 40:43makings of someone who's very special.
- 40:46Does, she's already run fast. I don't think there's any
- 40:51denying that this young lady can run fast, but to make the final
- 40:58with three of the greatest Jamaican sprinters ever, okay,
- 41:04the greatest Sprinter in Tunisia.
- 41:07Make this is go down the line, right?
- 41:12Three of the greatest, probably the best collection of Jamaican
- 41:17Spinners that we've ever seen the British record holder,
- 41:22right? You've got the Swiss record
- 41:26holder, you know, you've got talu and you've got Hobbs.
- 41:31I mean, kudos to Hobbes to, I mean that that was a pretty good
- 41:36read when you think about the experience and where those two
- 41:40young ladies are and where they've been, you know.
- 41:46Regardless of not, I think this is something that's going to
- 41:49help Miss Jefferson when she moves on in her career, because
- 41:54that's not easy. You don't just happen to get
- 42:00into the woman's hundred meter final.
- 42:02You don't just do that. Okay?
- 42:03And so, you know, again, I have to give her praise and give her
- 42:10respect, where it's due. I want to pause on that for a
- 42:14second because that's one of Of these issues that just drives me
- 42:18crazy about our Sport and our so-called casual fans anybody.
- 42:24I don't care how old or young you are anybody with the
- 42:27internet microphone that has been talking trash like Melissa
- 42:32Jefferson somehow did something wrong here?
- 42:35An idiot. Hmm, listen just making that
- 42:38final is incredible, it is and it's difficult to do.
- 42:45Given all the context that the governor just laid out for you.
- 42:48And I'm going to add more to it. I don't care who you're a fan of
- 42:53one way or the other. Either Shelly-Ann is the
- 42:57greatest hundred meters. Printer of all time or Elaine
- 42:59Thompson. Yep, so we've talked about bad
- 43:02birthdays. Listen, Jefferson, got bad
- 43:04birthday. She arrives in the middle of the
- 43:08worst fire ever helped and somehow made the final, they
- 43:13don't care what place he finished.
- 43:15Just, hey, go through the list. Okay.
- 43:18Female sprinters that did not make that final right?
- 43:24It is extensive Okay, day. And it also lets go back to six
- 43:29weeks ago after a performance at the NCAA championships period
- 43:33ever making the tea. Yeah, but I'm just you make the
- 43:36team. She makes the world, she makes
- 43:38team, which makes the final Absalom that young lady's.
- 43:41Future is incredibly bright and props and an excellent choice by
- 43:46the governor. Again, the the term here is
- 43:50best. I don't need a lot of context to
- 43:53explain this one. I don't care what Happens in the
- 43:56final of this place at all. The best young athlete in this
- 44:01meat is Aryan. Nitin mile.
- 44:04It's not even close. I don't know.
- 44:08Listen, I don't care what happened.
- 44:11I picked him to win it. I don't care about the shitty
- 44:14Lane draw, which is inexplicable to me.
- 44:17I get it. Like, I understand the rule, but
- 44:19it's a stupid-ass rule. I don't care what happens.
- 44:23I picked him to win it. I'm sticking with him.
- 44:25The Win It. But make no mistake about it.
- 44:27The best young person in his building.
- 44:30Yes is Aryan nitin by a mile. Unbelievable man, I'm gonna go
- 44:37next and since you stole one of mine, Maura, I'm gonna still
- 44:44possibly, I survived the draft choice.
- 44:48And for me, it's an ahall for Anna to communicate in the last
- 44:54one, in has done the last And 29 days just unheard of yes.
- 44:58But for her to come in here and P R by two hundred and ninety
- 45:03eight points in her first world championships and get the bronze
- 45:06medal for just just phenomenal. And you know, obviously if you
- 45:12call that a homeowner pick if you want but it's not because it
- 45:14wasn't what I was promised. So I I won't take, I won't take
- 45:19area on in and and ever since you took Ariane and if How do
- 45:26you have any doubts about what sir lucious is talking about?
- 45:30Go watch that 800 right? Because she ran her tail off,
- 45:38okay? Like with 100's ago it looked
- 45:43like things were not going to end well.
- 45:46Exactly. And she dug and that had started
- 45:48bobbin. So so you understand.
- 45:53And for the context it was never a doubt.
- 45:55Out. Never a doubt.
- 45:59I got like when they got to 600 I'm like, she's not gonna like I
- 46:03mean, I know she can't hear me but I was talking to myself, I
- 46:06guess. And that was hard for her.
- 46:11It was more like the emotion and everything.
- 46:15But you know, Lamar and I talked about this, the I could almost
- 46:18guarantee you that if Anna would have had to run 2002 to win the
- 46:23thing. Yoshida rent 202.
- 46:26But she knew them and she could have been 157, is still number
- 46:28one. So no.
- 46:30And so the total thing was I'm going to make sure I, you know I
- 46:33run well and mentioned about it catches me.
- 46:35But now that was yeah that was for an hour.
- 46:39We had a lot of fun for those couples couple days.
- 46:41I'm still a little tired from that.
- 46:43We left. Well, I'm gonna jump in here and
- 46:48say a couple of very brief things.
- 46:50One, I was going to take Ariane and Anna off the table, just
- 46:55because if they're just not fair, if anybody is confused
- 47:00about how good and all is, let's just start with this.
- 47:03Jackie Joyner-Kersee has the best female track athlete and in
- 47:06my opinion, the best female athlete to ever walk.
- 47:08This planet and Anna Hall is better than Jackie Joyner-Kersee
- 47:11at this age. So, just let that wash over you
- 47:15drink that in. And move on with your day area.
- 47:19Tonight is not from this planet so we're going to talk about him
- 47:22either. Because because honestly like
- 47:27that's a rabbit hole that would like literally we could do like
- 47:30a whole month of shows on the things Ariane night and has done
- 47:36that. You can't do at 17 and 18, do
- 47:40you know what I mean? Like we can literally do a whole
- 47:42month to shows. So I for my money, I was going
- 47:45to take those two off the table because for one, I knew somebody
- 47:47else could do those. But for to, I want to give props
- 47:50to somebody who's He has emerged as somebody that is a humongous
- 47:58Global problem and it's funny because he's emerged the same
- 48:02way as the best guy in the world.
- 48:05Did Trevor bass it took on the first second and third, best 400
- 48:13hurlers to ever walk this planet, right?
- 48:17First, second, and fourth. Sorry.
- 48:20Right. Well, now he's like right now
- 48:23after secondly, the time, right? But at the time, was 12 and 4,
- 48:27right? Something like that.
- 48:29Anyway, here's my point. He knew there's only three
- 48:32medals which means you got to be the least one of them. and that
- 48:36young man was Uh Nebraska and unafraid and ran like a
- 48:43psychopath, just like the guy who's the best guy in the world,
- 48:48that is a world record holder. And here's what I'm telling you,
- 48:51I am not saying Trevor bastard is going to break the world
- 48:54record before and hurdles. But it sure as hell wouldn't
- 48:58completely and utterly surprised because he has the, it piece
- 49:05that none of us can ever quantify, right?
- 49:08Like look, if you look at them, athletically, Carson War home is
- 49:12not better than the people. He has beaten if you look at
- 49:16them, athletically. But up here, yes.
- 49:22He never saved anything for the swim back, therefore he's
- 49:25willing to die to win and that's that's a place 99.999% of people
- 49:31on this planet are not willing to go.
- 49:32I'm telling you that I think Trevor Bassett is just as nuts
- 49:37in a good way. He is fearless, I saw it indoors
- 49:41at indoor world's this man is running in his off event that he
- 49:46that he's not a quarter mile. ER he took on all the quarter
- 49:48milers in the world and came within like four and a half
- 49:51inches of winning World Championships indoors.
- 49:55He doesn't know that he doesn't belong and doesn't care.
- 49:59And for that young man in his first outdoor Global
- 50:02championship. To win a medal in that group of
- 50:07people. Yeah, is straight-up insanity.
- 50:11And if you don't realize that there's more to come with him,
- 50:15you're just not paying attention.
- 50:18You just not paying attention. So I will say this.
- 50:22I said this before, like, when like, when we were dealing with
- 50:27the Lee of the Olympic team, going to Tokyo, We have.
- 50:34The most phenomenal group of young people that this country's
- 50:37ever had doing track since 1968. And I said, then it was
- 50:41important for them to make the teams in to go to the Olympics
- 50:47to get that experience because that was going to harden them
- 50:49going forward. Hell we got more Talent than I
- 50:52even knew his chamber backs. It wasn't on that team.
- 50:54He wasn't in that Grant. You wanna yeah?
- 50:57Right. And there's others that have
- 50:59emerged you know since then and I'm telling you man like I can
- 51:04feel the United States is in the best place.
- 51:07It could possibly be byways of the athletic talent and and its
- 51:13age. But Kang Lane five, what has
- 51:23been the best event thus far? I'm going to circle back, I
- 51:30mean, with all the vitriol and the way that world Athletics has
- 51:41messed around with my pet event. Yes, jump The the really 2020
- 51:50talked about that last round and what happened in those, you
- 51:55know, those last those that the six attempts that is what the
- 52:00long jump is all about. Like you, it's and only the long
- 52:07jump in my opinion, mean will we see things like this happen
- 52:11where people come out of the woodwork and you know and and I
- 52:17mean again like everybody I think everybody coming in
- 52:21expected, the Greek jumper to win, he had the best hand he'd
- 52:27been, I don't think he had lost for the entire year and but
- 52:33again he you know the want Wang. Is it wrong or why?
- 52:41Um was prepared you know and how Long has it been in between
- 52:48World Championship gold medals from mr.
- 52:51Randy. Huntington like low.
- 52:55I mean if you want a lesson in stick-to-itiveness, I mean,
- 53:01there you go, right there. I mean, 1991 wasn't just
- 53:04yesterday folks, okay? So kudos to Wang, I, you know,
- 53:11I'm glad that the long jump was was as entertaining as it was
- 53:16and, you know, Hopefully, you know people continue to support
- 53:20the event because we all know right now it's not where it
- 53:24should be. And, you know, I'm looking
- 53:27forward to bigger things down the road.
- 53:34Who can I go next? Don't stare.
- 53:39I don't think I'm going to steal anybody's.
- 53:41I don't think for me that actually, this one is not even
- 53:45that close, like if you look at expectations going into it and
- 53:49how it turned out you'd be hard-pressed to have a better
- 53:53competition in the women's tripled I mean. 14:56 by deal of
- 54:03fond with 215 M, fouls was fifth 1470 was you are worthy house,
- 54:15don't count, right? You know, 14 1456 are still
- 54:19really far. Anyway, for now come on, the
- 54:211456 1470 is incredibly far to get forth And for an event with
- 54:34a truly dominant human being at the top to have that many people
- 54:39like stand up and be like, I can go after her, right?
- 54:43And you get a 1489 and a 1472 For the metals like usually when
- 54:51you have a competition that's got a Buca or gotta krauser or
- 54:55got a Mondo in it, right. The competition is about them
- 55:01and everybody behind them is just kind of like slap fights.
- 55:05Like there were some monster competition and that happened.
- 55:20Survive the long story short is this.
- 55:35Usually when you have a competition with a superstar up
- 55:39front, lots of men happens behind it.
- 55:43And that competition was amazing with all kinds of second, third,
- 55:49fourth Podium Place changes, and it was awesome to watch.
- 55:54Okay, I want to monitor stand. The first American to win the
- 55:58medal in the triple jump. Sorry for ever like, like will.
- 56:04That's not, that's not disregard.
- 56:06What young lady did? I mean?
- 56:08That's pretty amazing Lamar. I like your pick.
- 56:14I do and you're not wrong about anything.
- 56:16You just said But I got to tell you, sitting there watching the
- 56:21women's triple at least. So our seats are on the home.
- 56:26Stretch like dead in front of the triple, right?
- 56:30And all I can tell you is in and around where I was sitting it
- 56:34was like people were impressed with the jumps but at no point,
- 56:38did anybody feel like there was any drama there?
- 56:41It was like, oh that's cute. But they got no shot, you know
- 56:44what I mean? It's okay.
- 56:46Yeah, there it wasn't drama. For the goal, but there was a
- 56:49tremendous amount of drama for the podium.
- 56:51Just right. And so that's why I thought
- 56:53about that being my pic that I'm like, yeah, I just wasn't
- 56:57feeling that one. The one that was there for me
- 57:00like had the most energy thus far was the men's high jump?
- 57:06Yeah, the men's high jump was crazy and off of the off of The
- 57:11Dramatics of the of what happened in the Olympics, right?
- 57:17With barsoom and any Italian, you know, choosing to be double
- 57:23gold together. Now they're coming back to go
- 57:26head-to-head and Tim Berry barely made it into the final.
- 57:29Let's be clear. He was terrible in qualifying.
- 57:33To them come back and then be himself in the final have an
- 57:37incredible job. Devon Harrison look like he was
- 57:40going to get up there. Shelby was doing a great job for
- 57:43Team USA, right? And at the end of the day, whoo
- 57:47from Korea, had the entire Stadium like at his feet.
- 57:52All the entire I mean not just the clap.
- 57:56It's whoo. Whoo.
- 57:57Whoo like everybody was up for that.
- 58:01And at the end of the day bar, seems like, you know, he's like
- 58:04a bobber this right? It is what it is.
- 58:09I'm still going to never miss a thing and put everybody to bed
- 58:13when I have to write. Like that, that was the best cop
- 58:18that I've seen over all this far, but I understand what you
- 58:20were going back. I'm sorry the way why can't a
- 58:28fun fact tactic Governor's kids for our long?
- 58:33Jump over here. The last time he won World
- 58:37Championship a world championship, Was in 2014 when
- 58:42he won World Juniors in Eugene. Hmm, I thought I was the best
- 58:55that I've seen so far as a shopper, a shop later South
- 59:01Carolina, got Josh, Right comes out in his first throw.
- 59:05Yo, big p. Be, you know, Joe watching Joe
- 59:09first throw, you know, get after it.
- 59:11And, you know, we talked about a little bit earlier know, Ryan's
- 59:14response to Jos big throw. So that was the best one for me
- 59:17to watch so far. Most exciting.
- 59:20Clearly probably could have been the 110 hurdles but yeah, got a
- 59:25little bit messed up. So Masterful job of the long
- 59:38list of humans, who did not do their job.
- 59:40You are not on that list. Sir.
- 59:43Thank you, sir. All right.
- 59:46Lane six. What has been the worst thing
- 59:49that you've seen thus far? Right.
- 59:58We have to give it right in the middle, right?
- 1:00:00That's supposed to be a preferred lane lane.
- 1:00:01Six pm, go. First, you go, you ain't gone.
- 1:00:04First you go first. So you know, I'll say that, it's
- 1:00:07definitely been the whole start issue.
- 1:00:09And by all means, it's the new definition of the false start.
- 1:00:12It's not the flange, it's not the head, not it's not that,
- 1:00:15it's the pedal pressure and it's definitely, you know, the
- 1:00:19shortcomings of what an official is supposed to be.
- 1:00:22And this point things like that people reacting in the wrong
- 1:00:27nature. Making the wrong argument to the
- 1:00:29whole start like they didn't move.
- 1:00:31Okay. Put the pedal of the pressure
- 1:00:33off the pedal with their you know when 7 Ellen when they Slow
- 1:00:38Down the video you can see his front foot, came up, his toes
- 1:00:42came up and that's what let the pressure off.
- 1:00:44That's when like if you could float, he always does that he
- 1:00:50cocks. His he cocks his toes like that.
- 1:00:58A short moment after that, like I know what you're talking
- 1:01:00about, I swear. So, anyways, whatever, although
- 1:01:04I want to go back and watch because I've watched that a lot.
- 1:01:06Yeah. See the thing I'll say that
- 1:01:10about the pressure on the Block's, is this, I think that
- 1:01:14one, I think the study that led to that might have been back in
- 1:01:17the 1960s. So it's a little outdated, so
- 1:01:21it's as old as I am. So you know, what's in the other
- 1:01:25part of it, for me, is that We've continued to try to put
- 1:01:30limitations on humans and so something that a man couldn't do
- 1:01:3530 years ago, a man can do today.
- 1:01:37So, the original thing was to design something to help the
- 1:01:44starters. Now the tired of the starters
- 1:01:47are totally Reliant upon the system and its it's a machine
- 1:01:53machines make mistakes machines break down.
- 1:01:57And so I think that that's the what I mean by last worst thing
- 1:02:01I've seen as well. So piggybacking on it, but I
- 1:02:04just think that it just needs to be tossed out.
- 1:02:07It needs to go back to the starters and that needs to be
- 1:02:09used as a backup for the starters, not the other way
- 1:02:12around. I think that's definitely where
- 1:02:14I was going with that and now I'll add to that.
- 1:02:18Because again, that situation marred, what could have been a
- 1:02:25pretty special Shal, 110 heard of final.
- 1:02:29I mean, that's, that's this call it.
- 1:02:30What it is. You have the Olympic champion.
- 1:02:33You have 1284 in that race. You have grand Holloway, you
- 1:02:40have the makings of a pretty special race.
- 1:02:44And it turned out to be an absolute debacle, you know, like
- 1:02:48in terms of how it all played out kudos to Grand for keeping
- 1:02:53his nerve, keeping his head together.
- 1:02:56I was reminded of Auto in 96 and you know because the amount of
- 1:03:04time it takes for an athlete to protest and go back and forth
- 1:03:10and say no, you know, and that is taking away.
- 1:03:15Energy least, it's sucking energy out of you as an athlete
- 1:03:19in that race and being able to stay focused and locked in, and
- 1:03:24what you need to do, specially, we're talking.
- 1:03:26About the 110 hurdles here. So, again, kudos to mr.
- 1:03:31Holloway for for, you know, going out and getting the win.
- 1:03:38Now, there has been another study, you know, since that
- 1:03:43original study I think it was in somewhere in Europe and he went
- 1:03:50back and tested athletes tested their reactions.
- 1:03:56And The end result, they came up with is that the reaction time?
- 1:04:01And that should be in the point eight point zero.
- 1:04:04Eight. In in that area.
- 1:04:10And you know I mean I don't know, I have not seen the study
- 1:04:13and not seen, you know, the publish results and all of that
- 1:04:17but here's what I will say. When Linford Christie got booted
- 1:04:24out, he did not start before the gun.
- 1:04:29Okay. When the, but the the debacle
- 1:04:33happened in 2003, they did not start before the gun went off
- 1:04:40the issue that we're dealing with right now is, is it humanly
- 1:04:46possible to react faster than point?
- 1:04:51Zero point one of a second and the answer is unequivocally.
- 1:04:58Yes, Okay, call it what it is. And believe me the folks on this
- 1:05:06panel know every single time science has tried to dictate to
- 1:05:13human beings. That these are your limits Human
- 1:05:20beings have said, you know what, you can take this L all the way
- 1:05:26back to where you came from. Okay, in football terms, right?
- 1:05:33We are still trying to figure out what a freaking catches in
- 1:05:37the NFL. One of the one of the
- 1:05:42fundamental parts of that Sport and human beings have managed to
- 1:05:48somehow turn. Okay, are your hands on the
- 1:05:53ball? Are you holding on to the ball?
- 1:05:57Like those are things now, you know, what is inbounds?
- 1:06:02What is, you know, you know. Did you release the shot at the
- 1:06:06buzzer? Did you get it off your hands?
- 1:06:10These are Things that you cannot quantify.
- 1:06:15You cannot science, cannot dictate to Primal a reaction.
- 1:06:21You're talking about a reaction, you're talking about the first
- 1:06:25thing that you here. And you react to it.
- 1:06:31Come on, man. I mean it's nonsensical.
- 1:06:36I hope I hope this this Spurs, you know, further conversation
- 1:06:41about this subject because we're going to see this pop-up.
- 1:06:45We're going to see popping up in the wrong possible times.
- 1:06:50Oh, just wait genitive sign over.
- 1:06:52That's my music gon get hurt by this madness.
- 1:06:56Let me I can go in a bunch of petty directions but I don't
- 1:07:01stay, I'm gonna stay here for a second.
- 1:07:04With the Devon Island disqualification.
- 1:07:07I do not know anything about this supposed study from
- 1:07:12whenever the hell it was, but I'd be willing to wager that it
- 1:07:18was done on a very limited number of people and none of
- 1:07:22which even in that time would be considered Elite athletes.
- 1:07:26Hmm. As you know what studies like
- 1:07:28this? I rarely ever done on Evie
- 1:07:30athletes because Elite athletes ain't signing up for this crap.
- 1:07:35I don't care if you took, you know, the the best of the
- 1:07:39Premier League soccer players. They're not a lead at this so
- 1:07:44until you line up the best track and field athletes in the world
- 1:07:49and do a study on them. I don't want to hear about the
- 1:07:53studies. My problem is this I think the
- 1:07:57governor alluded to it or Solutions may have said it.
- 1:08:02The computer is meant to be an enhancement to the judges.
- 1:08:08Mhm. I don't care.
- 1:08:11If you had a youth meet High School, meet College meet promy
- 1:08:15Olympics, World Championships. There's no more than, there's no
- 1:08:19less than four people standing there, looking at the dam
- 1:08:21starts. Okay, so none of them saw Devon
- 1:08:26a move because he didn't move. So I looked at the screen,
- 1:08:31right? So I'm just like, hell, we even
- 1:08:34took the officials away from the long jump board, right?
- 1:08:37Triple jump board. Now there's just a little light
- 1:08:39to Tells you what happened? Why so you can't yell at the
- 1:08:42officials. No more.
- 1:08:43If we're going to be beholding to the damn computer then just
- 1:08:46get all those people up out of there and set an automated thing
- 1:08:50and then we can, you know, yell at the computer because no one
- 1:08:54in that moment, I decided to use a rational thought in their head
- 1:08:58or look up at the incredibly huge Jumbotron which everybody
- 1:09:04else in the stadium. Saw the boy didn't move.
- 1:09:08And not only, not only did it Rob Devin Allen of a chance to
- 1:09:14become world champion. But you know, understand
- 1:09:18definitely going to be an eagles Camp by next week he he's going
- 1:09:20to be all right. You don't get his money, he's
- 1:09:23fine but it robbed us. All of the Devon Allen story,
- 1:09:30which our sport desperately needs.
- 1:09:33Again, we talked about this man's father died during the
- 1:09:38meet to qualify him to get to this place.
- 1:09:43He doesn't need the money, he's in the NFL, he's out there
- 1:09:46running just because he wants to and he was the number one.
- 1:09:52Hurdler on the planet that close to a world record this season.
- 1:09:58Grants the reigning defending world champion, parchments the
- 1:10:02reigning defending Olympic champion in Devon.
- 1:10:05Allen is supposed to be the spoiler and we didn't get to see
- 1:10:09any of that because a computer Said the Devin Allen's too good
- 1:10:14at his job. That is the dumbest excuse for
- 1:10:19anything. I can't like, you could invent
- 1:10:21that if you wanted to In the fact that I'm sorry, the fact
- 1:10:27that no one jumped the fence. I'm waiting for Teen USA people
- 1:10:30to jump the fence be like, damn that.
- 1:10:33I'm waiting for Devon Allen to go.
- 1:10:35Full-blown Jon Drummond and beat like me.
- 1:10:37You're going to escort me out of here.
- 1:10:39I'm running this race, right? Like it was, it was so bad and
- 1:10:45it robbed us all of. And again, I still had Grant
- 1:10:48winning but I would have loved to see a wire to wire battle or
- 1:10:53something. You know, and we need that
- 1:10:56storyline because guarantee you there's a big portion of our
- 1:11:01casual fans. They don't know nothing about
- 1:11:04But the city of Philadelphia was probably watching the World
- 1:11:06Championships that they want to see that.
- 1:11:10You know, so it was trash like it was it was absolute trash and
- 1:11:15I you know I know Devin's good he going to be good and you know
- 1:11:19good luck to him making the Eagles and all that but man we
- 1:11:23need to see that rice. And and you know what, the you
- 1:11:27know, what's awful about all that it actually Rob's Grant,
- 1:11:31too. Because there will be people
- 1:11:35that'll that'll put an asterisk by this Championship they
- 1:11:38shouldn't but they will. So glad you.
- 1:11:44I'm glad you said that because there are a lot of naysayers
- 1:11:49when it comes to Grant and you know, there's been the chatter
- 1:11:55you got lucky got this thing, another of people, you know the
- 1:12:01you know I'm gonna call you people by name the Matt Johnson
- 1:12:04Ray and words love to talk crap about quit.
- 1:12:09Well, let me give you a little revisionist.
- 1:12:10History here fella. So you can take this and put it
- 1:12:12in your pipe and smoke it forever.
- 1:12:15Okay. Grand Holloway was a high school
- 1:12:18senior in 2016 and he called me and Megan said coach I don't
- 1:12:23want to play football but I need you to promise me.
- 1:12:26You're going to push me to be one of the greatest herders to
- 1:12:28ever walk the planet. So of course, I said yes, in the
- 1:12:32last six years, in the last six years, in a couple of months,
- 1:12:37Grant Holloway is an eight-time NCAA Champion is Is he a record
- 1:12:41holder indoors? And Outdoors is a three-time
- 1:12:45world champion is an Olympic silver medalist.
- 1:12:48He's a world record holder indoors and he's the number two
- 1:12:51guy of routers, but we're terrible, you know, great always
- 1:12:56had a better six years and probably the careers of most of
- 1:12:59the people out there that are criticizing So if I want you
- 1:13:02guys don't don't be teen Grant. Now they'll keep criticizing.
- 1:13:06This will just keep doing what we're doing.
- 1:13:09But if Grand Holloway hasn't shown you guys anything, he's
- 1:13:14shown you, he knows how to show up and get the damn job done.
- 1:13:16When it counts, whether y'all like it or not.
- 1:13:20And I'm out. Wow, for those of you who have
- 1:13:27not been privy to this, I feisty Mouse is my favorite.
- 1:13:31So I'm here for all of that, that's a standing ovation.
- 1:13:36Listen obviously the worst thing that we've all seen is the false
- 1:13:41start, so I, but I'm going to give a different take on it.
- 1:13:43It angered me. When I got all the information.
- 1:13:49Because then I realized that the people at World Athletics, think
- 1:13:56I'm stupid. Every single machine on this
- 1:14:02planet. That calculates and calibrates
- 1:14:06has a standard deviation. Am I correct you for?
- 1:14:10Is everyone, right? Like when they, you know, even
- 1:14:14the ski, even the calipers you do body fat, there's a standard
- 1:14:17deviation, right? So it is not perfect.
- 1:14:19It's perfect within a small fraction, right?
- 1:14:23Yes. Okay.
- 1:14:25So, in the semi-final, Devon Allen his block start meeting
- 1:14:32was point. 101. Okay.
- 1:14:40You in the race for he was disqualified is blocked.
- 1:14:43Start was .99. So what you want me to be .09?
- 1:14:52What you want me to believe is that that machine is 100%
- 1:14:58infallible to the thousandth of a second because you're telling
- 1:15:04me that the first start was legal And in reaction to the
- 1:15:09gun, and the second start was a guess.
- 1:15:14Right? Because that's if you tell me,
- 1:15:15it's a Paul started means the reacted before the stimuli in
- 1:15:18his ear. There's two thousands of a
- 1:15:22second between those two starts, which means he's either the
- 1:15:26greatest guest star on the planet.
- 1:15:28When we never guessed either time, I'm not that stupid
- 1:15:35people. It is clear that the man reacted
- 1:15:40to the stimuli both times and you cannot tell me that that
- 1:15:47machine can discern between those two starts as to one being
- 1:15:53legal and one being illegal, there is no shock that the
- 1:15:56standard deviation for that machine is within two
- 1:16:01thousandths of a second. No shot.
- 1:16:08If point that point 099 comes up on your screen, you just call
- 1:16:12them all back, give a green card and you just do what my bad.
- 1:16:19But you can't disqualify somebody.
- 1:16:23Within 1/1000 of a second. And this is how we know, it's
- 1:16:30true. When they give out the the when
- 1:16:34they give out that the official results, right?
- 1:16:38The official results are listed as the tenth and the hundredth.
- 1:16:45They don't list the Thousand on the regular results because
- 1:16:51there is a standard deviation in the Omega Timing Systems.
- 1:16:55They use that thousands of a second.
- 1:16:59They use the thousands of a second to break ties that can't
- 1:17:03be broken by ocular proof. But have you noticed even the
- 1:17:08Omega X? Ocular Peru, even the Omega
- 1:17:13Timing Systems. Don't go to the 10,000, because
- 1:17:19that's outside of the standard deviation of the machine.
- 1:17:24Listen folks, I'm not trying to bore you with science.
- 1:17:27I'm just trying to tell you this, there's no way that you
- 1:17:29want to stop about fall asleep. Don't whatever man that what you
- 1:17:36need to understand if you are lazy.
- 1:17:39Well, you understand it look delay.
- 1:17:41Fan is. This Devon Alan?
- 1:17:44Could not possibly have had a legal start and a false start
- 1:17:48that are that close to each other.
- 1:17:50It's not possible. Thank you.
- 1:17:53It's all you can say in the first place.
- 1:17:56Listen, I li OCA trying to help restated, the nerdy, slant,
- 1:18:01Sarai, we have some nerdy. Hello, look, watch this.
- 1:18:04And I want them to appreciate it, bro.
- 1:18:11Wow, shots fire started. That that's my fault.
- 1:18:15No, you absolutely should have started.
- 1:18:17And I'm here for it and I'm just a distance since we're halfway
- 1:18:21through since you started. Since we're halfway through the
- 1:18:24champion. We all agree, we all clear the
- 1:18:28day, the number one, you know. Worst thing we saw was the Devon
- 1:18:31Alan Foster. There are some other candidates,
- 1:18:36you know the Team USA mixed relay processing and results
- 1:18:43would be high up on my list. I'm hoping that we finish off a
- 1:18:47little little better. Then then we have started.
- 1:18:52Okay, so so let's briefly. And I'm gonna try not to, I'm
- 1:18:56not going to say I'm going to be briefing and take like 20
- 1:18:58minutes like of the EP does. But what I'm going to say, when
- 1:19:04it comes to the mix relay, we have to play better attention.
- 1:19:08The rest of the world is outsmarting us right now.
- 1:19:12Right, the schedule is set up so you can do your open events and
- 1:19:17the make sure you let yes we are not strong enough in the women's
- 1:19:21400 at this point in time. Hence we have no one in the The
- 1:19:26event that we can take our fours and fives and beat the rest of
- 1:19:30the world's 12 of our 45mm Insider, fine.
- 1:19:35But we're going to have to delve into other than just going to
- 1:19:37have to ask the Foreigner harder to help the 800-meter people to
- 1:19:41help because right now we cannot do it without people want to be
- 1:19:44too rough. So that's all right.
- 1:19:46That's all I have to say. Yes, the, I don't have my
- 1:19:52college. Kids hear me?
- 1:19:53Say this all the time. If we line up and we get beat by
- 1:19:57people who are better than us, it is what it is.
- 1:20:00I'll take the L. I'm we're not going to lose
- 1:20:04races out of stupidity. We're not going to lose races on
- 1:20:09the American side we're losing races out of arrogance.
- 1:20:12Just pure American arrogance we chose to run a see Team on the
- 1:20:19world stage as if By definition is a see Team, sir or not.
- 1:20:28I'm a BT without a CT. I, we will get into it.
- 1:20:34On the, on the full recap. I will show you is seating.
- 1:20:38We showed me a CT. If we gotta go, if we have six
- 1:20:43and seven people that are faster, it's the seating.
- 1:20:46But anyway, the American arrogance has got to stop and I
- 1:20:54don't know, maybe it's just because I'm building maybe it's
- 1:20:57because I'm biased maybe it's because I'm protein USA losing
- 1:21:02because of American arrogance in Europe or Asia is bad enough
- 1:21:06doing it at home is way worse. It just is we hung that little
- 1:21:14girl out to dry, should have done it and we can't do things
- 1:21:18like that. We just can't.
- 1:21:20So we got the bulk of all of that is still to come and in
- 1:21:26case you haven't been paying attention, folks.
- 1:21:28We got some issues friend Curly's hurt.
- 1:21:31We have no Americans in the women's 400, we have people paid
- 1:21:35to make tough decisions and I think you need to get get on to
- 1:21:39the tough decisions. Has and take the arrogance in
- 1:21:42the pr campaigns out of it and let's go win some races.
- 1:21:46That is literally the job. Okay.
- 1:21:56I thought you had something to say of them.
- 1:21:58Are you on YouTube yourself? So you do have fun.
- 1:22:03I want to applaud that. That was, you know, usually pop
- 1:22:08a petty is, is just Petty. That was meaningful.
- 1:22:12He said that would his chest and I believe everything you just
- 1:22:15said, all right? Well, again, as we've mentioned
- 1:22:22throughout the show, this is only halfway through
- 1:22:24Championship. Well, we can't go through the
- 1:22:27rest of it back, half of the championship, as well as recap,
- 1:22:29the rest of it on our next episode.
- 1:22:32But And I think I don't think a lot came out of surprised that
- 1:22:37he there's some things that people may have forgotten.
- 1:22:39So Kudos asked to bring that back to light and still enjoy
- 1:22:43all aspects of the world championship with that.
- 1:22:47We'll go ahead and round out the show with our heartbeat stops
- 1:22:52and call it a night. But is anybody having one out,
- 1:22:56lift up Mars? For example, your minds are
- 1:23:01simply too much. No heartfelt, condolences on the
- 1:23:07passing of his father. And I had the opportunity to
- 1:23:11watch the interview. He did afterwards in a situation
- 1:23:16where he could have been yelling screaming.
- 1:23:19Angry cursing. He was very, very professional.
- 1:23:25And you know, take take, take took a big man to do that.
- 1:23:27So that's why are we promised them an hour for the way you
- 1:23:30handle that situation? Then Devon Island Class Act.
- 1:23:34Indeed my heartbeat props. Go out to most satara throws
- 1:23:40coach at University of California Berkeley, one of my
- 1:23:44former colleagues. Obviously, when I work there
- 1:23:47Mo's out here kicking ass taking names, he has two babies with
- 1:23:53two silver medals. In events that babies never get
- 1:23:56silver medals in. We made reference counting
- 1:23:59Rogers earlier, loving him Congratulations.
- 1:24:03But But a Linker a link NE is a college freshman y'all.
- 1:24:10He's a college freshman, not even a covid freshman.
- 1:24:14He's just a freshman and went out there and got the silver
- 1:24:17medal. In the men's discus mole is one
- 1:24:19day and Team Canada Garb next day.
- 1:24:22He's in team Lithuania Garb. He is out here.
- 1:24:24Absolutely crushing it and I love that dude.

- 1:24:36I think the the answer is in the name.
- 1:24:40My heart. Be props for sure.
- 1:24:42Go out too. The 40s, M baseball players in
- 1:24:47the 2022 draft that were taken and are just had, this is how
- 1:24:52fast the world comes at you. The last of them leaves to go,
- 1:24:57be a professional on Saturday, the first of them leaves
- 1:25:00tomorrow. and my heartbeat props clearly go out to the other
- 1:25:11couple of gentlemen who did not have their names called in the
- 1:25:16draft who are now in the Purgatory and we're trying to
- 1:25:20figure out life for them and what happens next and whether
- 1:25:24there is still a route to the pro to the probe to the pros,
- 1:25:29but at the end of the day, my heartbeat props go out to Mine
- 1:25:33and all the others out there who survived the draft.
- 1:25:38Because let me be clear the three days of the major league
- 1:25:42baseball draft and the 20 rounds Major League.
- 1:25:44Baseball draft, are something that have to be survived.

- 1:26:26I said, thanks Governor, you know, I mean it's been through
- 1:26:33it. We've all been through it and
- 1:26:37you know, after a while you know, if you're not careful,
- 1:26:40some relays can kind of set in, you know, a little bit of you

- 1:27:09Stay focused. Young, man, young women.
- 1:27:12Trust your coaches. And, you know, we want, we want
- 1:27:16this party to keep on going so hard.
- 1:27:19Be processing you I can relate Harvey props to the Collegiate,
- 1:27:25athletes and coaches to are rounding out what the quote
- 1:27:29unquote start up in another week or so, you know, I won't talk
- 1:27:36about the cliche of the long season.
- 1:27:38So I'm so sick and tired of hearing it, and it's been a bus
- 1:27:42and how can they be expected to succeed?
- 1:27:45But it's been an enduring interests and I think everyone
