- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo, your place for simple, real-world Telugu. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Ready to learn something new today. Lucas: We've learned how to buy greens at the market and how to order chai. Today, we're going to the market to buy rice. Luna: Rice! A staple. What's the word for rice in Telugu? Lucas: Rice is 'బియ్యం'. Say it with me: బియ్యం. Luna: బియ్యం. Lucas: Great! Now, if you want to say 'I need rice', you say 'బియ్యం కావాలి'. Luna: బియ్యం కావాలి. Lucas: Perfect. So at the market, you'd say 'బియ్యం కావాలి' to the vendor. Luna: Got it. What about asking the price? Lucas: Good question. To ask 'how much is this rice?', you say 'ఈ బియ్యం ఎంత?'. Luna: ఈ బియ్యం ఎంత? Lucas: Exactly. 'ఈ' means 'this', 'బియ్యం' is rice, 'ఎంత' means 'how much'. Luna: So if I point to the rice and ask that, the vendor will tell me the price? Lucas: Yes! And if you want to buy one kilo, you say 'ఒక కేజీ బియ్యం ఇవ్వండి'. Luna: ఒక కేజీ బియ్యం ఇవ్వండి. That means 'give me one kilo of rice'. Lucas: You got it. 'ఇవ్వండి' is a polite way to say 'give me'. Luna: And after buying, maybe I want them to pack it? Lucas: Yes! 'కట్టండి' means 'pack it' or 'tie it up'. You can say 'కట్టండి'. Luna: కట్టండి. That's easy. So the whole conversation: I go to the vendor, say 'బియ్యం కావాలి', then ask 'ఈ బియ్యం ఎంత?', then say 'ఒక కేజీ బియ్యం ఇవ్వండి', and finally 'కట్టండి'. Lucas: That's a perfect little script! Let's practice each one slowly. Repeat after me: బియ్యం కావాలి. Lucas: Awesome! If you're finding these lessons useful, remember that Fexingo stays ad-free thanks to listeners like you.
