- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, my name's Jennifer Lawrence, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's showtime.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:19Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It is intended for mature audiences, and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Kilowatts of power.
- 1:12Speaker 5: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm Jacqueline.
- 1:15Speaker 5: I'm David. And we're coming to you live via.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Digital recording from Grendel and Zuzu's house.
- 1:21Speaker 5: It's been a long time. Look how excited they are.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 7: She can barely contain herself.
- 1:28Speaker 1: She only looks mildly upset right now.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Why are you people here?
- 1:33Speaker 3: This is my house.
- 1:34Speaker 8: I nap here.
- 1:36Speaker 1: She has Cushing's disease now. It's not that bad. I mean,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it's basically just like she has like a little tumor
- 1:44Speaker 1: on her pituitary gland that makes her put out too
- 1:49Speaker 1: much cortisone or whatever it is. So she's just hungrier.
- 1:54Speaker 1: All the time.
- 1:55Speaker 5: She's insatiable.
- 1:57Speaker 1: She's insatiable in that sense. Grendel is insatiable. And then
- 1:59Speaker 1: also is just slightly angrier.
- 2:01Speaker 5: But she was angry before. I started to say that
- 2:05Speaker 5: was her whole thing, man.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And it's like it does shorten her lifespan, but she's
- 2:08Speaker 1: on medication.
- 2:09Speaker 5: It's like it's fine.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It's not like a desperately horrible disease or anything. She's fine.
- 2:16Speaker 7: Send your donations now.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Save the Grendel fund.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Go fund me.
- 2:20Speaker 6: Jesus dead.
- 2:24Speaker 9: Dark phoenix trailer good actually let's go ahead because that
- 2:28Speaker 9: i was gonna bring that up to go back to
- 2:30Speaker 9: that first first class movie where you could tell they
- 2:34Speaker 9: put her in four hours of makeup and they were
- 2:37Speaker 9: like she's gonna die in this just spray.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Paint her blue put a red wig on her some
- 2:42Speaker 5: black plastic things on her cheek and let's just get
- 2:45Speaker 5: this scene done. Like she is so checked out.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Well, speaking of which, that was like what little I'm
- 2:50Speaker 6: seeing in that trailer. I'm like, so she's the one.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Getting killed, right? Just so they don't have to pay
- 2:57Speaker 5: her to come back.
- 2:58Speaker 6: And cause she's like, that's the only, I thought that
- 3:00Speaker 6: was kind of the deal breaker last time. Only she
- 3:02Speaker 6: was in that last one more than we expected. But
- 3:05Speaker 6: I figured that was like, I'll come back and do
- 3:07Speaker 6: one more.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Kill me. So I'm out. Like, Harrison Ford it. Be like, nope,
- 3:11Speaker 5: I'm out. You got to kill me off if.
- 3:13Speaker 6: I'm coming back. So yeah, this one definitely feels like, all.
- 3:16Speaker 10: Right, you can get me for like three scenes.
- 3:19Speaker 5: I can't believe they're releasing it, honestly, because all the
- 3:23Speaker 5: screenings have been bad. Like people have been like, this
- 3:27Speaker 5: is so not good. It's so, so not good. To
- 3:31Speaker 5: where like I heard it, Disney Marvel is still kind
- 3:33Speaker 5: of like, should we put it out? And what sucks
- 3:37Speaker 5: is that as that X-Men comic fan seeing Marvel get
- 3:41Speaker 5: this now, Dark Phoenix is easily one of the biggest
- 3:45Speaker 5: arcs in all of X-Men stuff. And it's like, since
- 3:49Speaker 5: Sony or whoever now has tanked it twice in the
- 3:51Speaker 5: last 10, 15 years, you can't touch that now. Marvel
- 3:54Speaker 5: cannot touch the Dark Phoenix saga going forward. And that
- 3:57Speaker 5: really sucks because it's a really fantastic saga if it
- 4:00Speaker 5: would have been done right. But man, both of the,
- 4:03Speaker 5: I mean, even looking at the trailer, I'm like, I
- 4:06Speaker 5: don't want to do this again. I did this once
- 4:08Speaker 5: before and it took like 15 minutes for me to
- 4:10Speaker 5: realize how awful that movie was. And I sat through it.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I felt like the trailer didn't look that bad.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Like I expected worse.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Knowing the actual story, it needs to be like at
- 4:24Speaker 5: least a two-parter.
- 4:26Speaker 8: At least.
- 4:27Speaker 5: And even that would be tough. Because you have to
- 4:29Speaker 5: have that whole phase of her having the power but
- 4:33Speaker 5: not being turned. It's not like... In the comic, she
- 4:36Speaker 5: had Dark Phoenix energy for years and years and years
- 4:40Speaker 5: before they pulled the trigger and had it cross over.
- 4:43Speaker 5: So to have her get the power... And then snap
- 4:46Speaker 5: within a two hour movie is like, no, this isn't,
- 4:49Speaker 5: it's Age of Ultron all over again. Ultron should have
- 4:52Speaker 5: been a wide sweeping arc and you made it a
- 4:55Speaker 5: short story. And it's like, quit making it a short story.
- 4:58Speaker 5: At the time, I remember saying like, this probably could
- 4:59Speaker 5: have been like a Netflix story.
- 5:01Speaker 1: He won.
- 5:01Speaker 5: In many ways, he won in the comic. He controlled
- 5:05Speaker 5: the earth for a large chunk of time. And the movie,
- 5:09Speaker 5: it was just a flat, it was one city. It
- 5:11Speaker 5: was a flash in the pan.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It's like.
- 5:13Speaker 5: I get you wanted to include him, and you turned
- 5:15Speaker 5: him into a short story, and there's a part of
- 5:17Speaker 5: me that respects you got him in there, but at
- 5:20Speaker 5: the same time, it's like, but it doesn't appease you.
- 5:23Speaker 5: If you really liked Ultron, it doesn't.
- 5:26Speaker 6: The only thing, the more, because at the time, I
- 5:28Speaker 6: remember having a problem with how quick it is. The
- 5:30Speaker 6: only thing, when I went back and rewatched it, it
- 5:33Speaker 6: is interesting that they do at least make use of
- 5:36Speaker 6: the fact that he is connected to everything. So the
- 5:41Speaker 6: more I thought, I was like, well, I mean, if
- 5:42Speaker 6: you could not only see everything that humanity is putting
- 5:46Speaker 6: out there, at least digitally, but also process it.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Oh, Skynet.
- 5:50Speaker 6: I'm just like very, yeah, within seconds you'd be like, oh,
- 5:53Speaker 6: these people are horrible and they all need to die.
- 5:55Speaker 6: And like the second time rewatching it, I was just like, yeah, okay,
- 5:58Speaker 6: it kind of makes sense because you're a huge enough
- 6:01Speaker 6: brain to be like.
- 6:03Speaker 5: No, fuck these guys. Like they all need to go.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Let's start over. So it is Skynet essentially.
- 6:08Speaker 7: But yeah, it's... All right.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I just came from it like i said i live
- 6:15Speaker 5: next to that theater and it's just i walk right
- 6:18Speaker 5: there was like four other people in there i don't
- 6:19Speaker 5: understand how that theater operates there's never anyone there i
- 6:23Speaker 5: know i go to kind of weird times but it's
- 6:26Speaker 5: the one next to dick sporting goods it's the one
- 6:28Speaker 5: right yeah then they just build that in like five
- 6:30Speaker 5: years yeah i mean they've been there for forever now
- 6:33Speaker 5: and every time i go there even if it is
- 6:35Speaker 5: kind of a later hour though i swear it's just
- 6:38Speaker 5: like 15, 20. Maybe it's just the movies I'm seeing.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Maybe just comic movies don't do well there. But I
- 6:43Speaker 5: always have no problem just walking right in like 10
- 6:46Speaker 5: minutes till having a decent seat. And I'm like, all right.
- 6:49Speaker 6: Well, that's my that's my thing with the new and
- 6:51Speaker 6: as much as it's not. cool to say it like
- 6:55Speaker 6: ever since they opened that one at the mall i'm
- 6:56Speaker 6: like this really good.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Theater yeah i'm like i really like this theater.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I only realized last time i whether they have heated.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Seats yeah i paid attention you're talking about saint matthew
- 7:06Speaker 6: yeah the one in mall saint matthew hasn't been to
- 7:08Speaker 6: it it's nice again well and this is my because
- 7:11Speaker 6: i've seen people online pitching that like ever since they
- 7:15Speaker 6: introduced this new buy online reserve your seats thing I
- 7:18Speaker 6: don't even go anymore.
- 7:19Speaker 5: I'm like, no, I'm the opposite. Like, I love that.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Skip that and just walk right in and sit down?
- 7:24Speaker 6: Yeah, because I'm like, I don't have to stand around waiting.
- 7:26Speaker 6: I don't have to get there early to get a
- 7:28Speaker 6: good seat. Like, really, for a big movie like that,
- 7:30Speaker 6: you'd have to get there like an hour early to
- 7:32Speaker 6: not be in the corner. Whereas, like, five minutes ahead
- 7:36Speaker 6: of time, I walk in and sit down. Like, that's
- 7:39Speaker 6: so much better.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Like, why would anybody do that? Did you ever actually
- 7:41Speaker 5: work at a theater theater? Or did you just work
- 7:43Speaker 5: at Circus? No, I don't think any of them wanted me.
- 7:45Speaker 5: When I was really young, I remember trying. And after that,
- 7:47Speaker 5: I was like, I worked at a theater for like two,
- 7:51Speaker 5: three years during like Titanic and stuff. So I remember
- 7:54Speaker 5: 45 minutes, you know, lines going on before a movie
- 7:58Speaker 5: even starts and that kind of stuff. And so, yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 5: to be in an era now where you can just
- 8:01Speaker 5: walk right in, five, 10, two, people don't understand. It
- 8:04Speaker 5: was almost like old school concerts. Like you had to
- 8:05Speaker 5: show up early for big movies and stuff. be ready
- 8:08Speaker 5: to deal with the line and you.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Know hoping out of habit i still show up so
- 8:12Speaker 1: early like even if i don't have to it's.
- 8:14Speaker 6: This year of doing that that now i've kind of
- 8:17Speaker 6: trained myself to be like all right wait i got
- 8:19Speaker 6: an extra half hour here what else do i need
- 8:21Speaker 6: to do before i leave like it's.
- 8:23Speaker 5: A whole nother world now i'm like yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 6: And i mean it's it's a culture shock thing it's
- 8:27Speaker 6: an adjustment it's one of the and especially the more
- 8:30Speaker 6: and more convenient it gets along those lines i've said
- 8:33Speaker 6: that because As much as I like music, the live
- 8:37Speaker 6: music scene always got on my nerves. And that's the
- 8:39Speaker 6: main reason. I'm like, you have to get there massively early.
- 8:43Speaker 6: You have to stand around for hours on end so
- 8:45Speaker 6: they can just sell you beer. And it's set up
- 8:48Speaker 6: to be a pain in the ass for the audience almost.
- 8:52Speaker 6: Versus movies, you get to sit down the entire time.
- 8:56Speaker 6: You really don't have to talk to people at all.
- 8:59Speaker 6: And once the movie starts, you're encouraged to not, which
- 9:01Speaker 6: please don't. but yeah it's like in general like it's
- 9:04Speaker 6: a totally different opposite kind of experience that i'm like
- 9:08Speaker 6: it's so isolated it's so convenient it's so comfortable like.
- 9:13Speaker 5: No wonder i don't ever go see bands anymore.
- 9:15Speaker 6: So yeah i i but yeah the more and more
- 9:18Speaker 6: that kind of stuff happens like now you don't even
- 9:19Speaker 6: have to stand in line like you just walk right
- 9:22Speaker 6: in i do like the feature there like it's messed
- 9:25Speaker 6: up now the last several times but before you could
- 9:27Speaker 6: go to the Like if you prepay at the machine,
- 9:30Speaker 6: but if you prepaid online, you could just go up,
- 9:32Speaker 6: put your card in the machine, it would spit it out.
- 9:34Speaker 6: You didn't have to see a person. Like you didn't
- 9:36Speaker 6: have to go get your ticket.
- 9:37Speaker 5: It's just a matter of time. Like soon it'll be
- 9:40Speaker 5: like checking out a grocery. You'll go in and just
- 9:43Speaker 5: push some buttons, scan a thing. It'll tell you which
- 9:46Speaker 5: theater to go into.
- 9:47Speaker 7: I'm telling you.
- 9:48Speaker 6: You're not even going to have to deal with people.
- 9:50Speaker 5: It's right up to the point when Ultron takes over.
- 9:52Speaker 6: I'm good with robots running.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Most of the stuff.
- 9:55Speaker 7: That's the way it should be.
- 10:00Speaker 6: All right, so the Super Series is back. It's been
- 10:03Speaker 6: a long time. We took a hiatus, I think I
- 10:07Speaker 6: started referring to it as.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Did you guys do Aquaman?
- 10:10Speaker 1: No. No.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Well, I mean, it started with, I think, the first,
- 10:15Speaker 6: because that was the thing. We came out of the snap,
- 10:18Speaker 6: and I was like.
- 10:20Speaker 11: Like, I kind of.
- 10:21Speaker 5: That was a lot to deal with, and I'm kind of.
- 10:24Speaker 6: So, I mean, like, even by the time, like, because
- 10:26Speaker 6: it wasn't too much longer when Ant-Man.
- 10:28Speaker 5: And Wasp came out. Yeah, it was like five weeks
- 10:30Speaker 5: or something.
- 10:30Speaker 6: And I was like, I'm like, I still want to
- 10:32Speaker 6: go see it, but I'm just like.
- 10:33Speaker 7: I don't even feel like talking about it.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Like, I just kind of want a break from the
- 10:37Speaker 5: whole deal. It was a huge high. Like, that was
- 10:39Speaker 5: a 10, 12-year build or whatever.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I mean, that was.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Yeah. It's hard to get too stoked about whatever comes next.
- 10:45Speaker 6: And they, you know, committed to the darkness.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 5: So, yeah. God, has that paid off. I mean, in retrospect,
- 10:54Speaker 5: it's not like it turned everyone away from it. Keeping
- 10:57Speaker 5: that bad ending is just, look how big of a
- 10:59Speaker 5: meme it is now. Like, the finger snap is everywhere
- 11:04Speaker 5: in culture. It is absolutely ingrained into everything. So, it's,
- 11:10Speaker 5: you know, I'm glad they took that risk, and I'm
- 11:12Speaker 5: glad it's working out.
- 11:13Speaker 12: Definitely.
- 11:14Speaker 5: It's going to make this next movie that much better.
- 11:16Speaker 5: It's just going to be so great, like, seeing it
- 11:18Speaker 5: all flip around.
- 11:19Speaker 6: And it's gonna be pretty huge that but yeah i
- 11:22Speaker 6: mean just i'm trying to think even the ones because
- 11:24Speaker 6: even i thought there was something else after that too
- 11:27Speaker 6: maybe it was just aquaman but.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Ant-man aquaman i think the only two comic book.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Ones again as much as i uh loved the new
- 11:35Speaker 6: animated spider-man like yeah what a multiverse yeah that was
- 11:38Speaker 6: yeah that that was badass so i was glad to
- 11:41Speaker 6: get to see that on the big screen but like
- 11:44Speaker 6: it was one that maybe at that point i'm like
- 11:46Speaker 6: we could have talked to Not that we can't still.
- 11:48Speaker 7: We can go back at some point.
- 11:49Speaker 13: Well, it won, right?
- 11:50Speaker 5: Didn't it win Best Animated? Again, what the Oscars have
- 11:53Speaker 5: done to themselves.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Once they created a Best Animated, they're like, well, you're
- 11:59Speaker 6: never winning Best Picture, so just face that.
- 12:02Speaker 5: It's going to be.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Yeah, it would be impossible. It's much like the foreign language.
- 12:06Speaker 6: When you have a foreign language category, you're not going
- 12:09Speaker 6: to win Best Picture. That's not what the normal generic
- 12:11Speaker 6: people are going to vote for. Yes, it won Best Animated.
- 12:15Speaker 6: More importantly, it won.
- 12:17Speaker 7: At least one spoiler.
- 12:20Speaker 6: I think it won the movie I expected to hate
- 12:23Speaker 6: and ended up really enjoying.
- 12:24Speaker 5: That's what everybody said. They were just like, I went
- 12:27Speaker 5: in with my guard up and it was really good.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Yeah, Spider-Man, Aquaman. We've taken a few off.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I figured this is the big comeback. Ant-Man was just
- 12:38Speaker 5: sort of there. I enjoyed Ant-Man movies.
- 12:42Speaker 6: I liked it.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Again, I think I liked this one even more than
- 12:44Speaker 5: the first one, but Yeah, I do think this was
- 12:47Speaker 5: much more fun in the first one.
- 12:49Speaker 6: They're still kind of a lull for me. They're still
- 12:51Speaker 6: kind of not essential. This one felt essential.
- 12:55Speaker 5: You can't come back knowing how the last Infinity War ends.
- 13:01Speaker 5: It is the lead-in.
- 13:02Speaker 6: We need to get the Captain Marvel thing in there.
- 13:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know.
- 13:08Speaker 6: I feel like this was the big comeback, so if
- 13:10Speaker 6: nothing else, we need to hit this.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I'm really interested to see how Ant-Man gets out of that.
- 13:16Speaker 6: That was, I thought, a great cliffhanger. For once, they
- 13:21Speaker 6: really used the teaser at the end as a really
- 13:24Speaker 6: good cliffhanger.
- 13:25Speaker 5: It really kind of hit out of nowhere. It was
- 13:27Speaker 5: great when they shot back to the terminal and it
- 13:29Speaker 5: was just dust. Stuff falling. The whole time after seeing Avengers,
- 13:33Speaker 5: you're like, is this going to tie in or not?
- 13:35Speaker 5: And you expected the whole movie. And I think part
- 13:38Speaker 5: of me was like, I guess they're going to do
- 13:39Speaker 5: it in a stinger. So it kind of happened at
- 13:41Speaker 5: the end there. I was like, okay, I did that.
- 13:42Speaker 6: But even then, as he's in there, I'm like, well,
- 13:46Speaker 6: they're not all gone, right?
- 13:47Speaker 5: Because then he's screwed. So I still don't know. While
- 13:50Speaker 5: he's going deeper and deeper, when they're giving him narrative, oh,
- 13:55Speaker 5: girl that was in there first says something like, watch
- 13:58Speaker 5: out for time vortexes. She says something very specific about
- 14:01Speaker 5: time anomalies. And I'm like, oh, well, there it is.
- 14:04Speaker 5: He's going to go look for those time anomalies now
- 14:06Speaker 5: and end up.
- 14:07Speaker 6: Because we kind of assumed it was the stone somehow
- 14:10Speaker 6: going to play in.
- 14:12Speaker 5: All three of them are talking to him. And Michelle
- 14:15Speaker 5: Pfeiffer's character, the mom, who had been in there for
- 14:18Speaker 5: so long, says something about she's rattling off all this info.
- 14:22Speaker 5: But somewhere in there is like, you know, and look
- 14:24Speaker 5: out for time vortexes or vortices or something. And so
- 14:27Speaker 5: after the dust happened, I was like, oh, the time stuff.
- 14:30Speaker 5: He's going to go look for that now and come out.
- 14:33Speaker 5: At some different, well, I guess maybe it would still
- 14:36Speaker 5: be nowadays. Because the stinger, the stinger on this, and
- 14:40Speaker 5: I guess, you know, the trailer for the movie, it
- 14:42Speaker 5: looks like he is. He's in there. In present day. Yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 5: he is. He's coming out after the Thanos snap. He
- 14:47Speaker 5: wasn't there in the stinger, but he is in the trailer.
- 14:49Speaker 5: I don't know how the time travel stuff's going to happen,
- 14:52Speaker 5: because there's apparently time travel that's going to happen.
- 14:55Speaker 6: That, and again, before we get totally into that.
- 14:58Speaker 5: This movie. I did want to throw it out there.
- 15:01Speaker 6: It's been out for weeks, so I've heard geeks talk
- 15:03Speaker 6: about it, but more importantly, we haven't discussed it. I'm
- 15:06Speaker 6: assuming you got the Spider-Man trailer. Do you think that's...
- 15:13Speaker 6: Is that not a bad idea?
- 15:15Speaker 5: I understand. We all know.
- 15:16Speaker 6: We all know.
- 15:17Speaker 1: We're not stupid, but.
- 15:19Speaker 5: You set up this whole thing.
- 15:21Speaker 1: To me....
- 15:24Speaker 6: And I've heard it's because Sony still has money invested
- 15:27Speaker 6: in that. Sony's like, no, no, you're putting our trailer out.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Yeah, you don't want.
- 15:30Speaker 1: To wait too long because it's coming out relatively soon.
- 15:33Speaker 6: They might have undercut the Marvel influence.
- 15:35Speaker 5: It's very confusing. Especially stuff like, did you have to
- 15:40Speaker 5: include Nick Fury? That in particular is like, why would
- 15:43Speaker 5: you put him in there? He's in such a weird
- 15:45Speaker 5: space and other continuity anyway, let alone- We just saw
- 15:50Speaker 5: Spider-Man die. He might die in Captain Marvel. Oh, no, wait.
- 15:54Speaker 5: This timeline's confusing. That trailer was bizarre. And honestly, not
- 15:58Speaker 5: to sound... I don't want to be pessimist, but it's
- 16:01Speaker 5: not the greatest trailer either. You know what I mean?
- 16:05Speaker 5: It shows that it's more the same, and I'm happy
- 16:07Speaker 5: with that. But I was like, there wasn't any wow
- 16:11Speaker 5: factor in it. I go, oh, my God. I got
- 16:13Speaker 5: to go see the next Spider-Man. I'm going to see it.
- 16:15Speaker 5: But there wasn't like... talking point in it. I mean,
- 16:18Speaker 5: Mysterio was in there, but as a comic fan, comic
- 16:23Speaker 5: fans have already deciphered that. You don't even have to
- 16:25Speaker 5: go to a Reddit. I mean, you already know it's like,
- 16:29Speaker 5: that's bullshit. You already know what's going on with Mysterio.
- 16:32Speaker 5: So it's just like, as a Spider-Man fan, I was
- 16:35Speaker 5: just like, I don't think I needed that. I don't
- 16:38Speaker 5: think I need to know that yet. It felt like
- 16:40Speaker 5: skipping ahead in a book. I was like, I don't
- 16:42Speaker 5: need to know that stuff yet.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And not just that Spider-Man's alive and everything, but it's
- 16:44Speaker 1: just like, and everything's hunky-dory and they're going to Europe.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It's like, okay, so international travel's back open. All this
- 16:50Speaker 1: stuff is like, yeah, I don't know how far in
- 16:53Speaker 1: the future that the movie's set. Maybe it's a long way.
- 16:56Speaker 1: But that's still just so weird.
- 16:57Speaker 6: But he's still in high school, so it can't be.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it can't be.
- 17:00Speaker 6: Yeah, it's got to be the next.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Year in high school, basically. It does feel like Sony pressure.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Because it also shows like three different Spider-Man outfits in
- 17:09Speaker 5: a trailer. I'm like, okay, it's like you're doing all
- 17:11Speaker 5: these like, all these member berries. Like, you know, come on,
- 17:13Speaker 5: look at all these things you're going to get to
- 17:15Speaker 5: check out in here. And it's like, but guys, he's
- 17:18Speaker 5: not alive technically right now. Like, what are you doing?
- 17:21Speaker 6: Stop.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 17:24Speaker 6: It's just, that seemed like bad planning on their part.
- 17:27Speaker 6: And again, I think it's equally, if not more so,
- 17:30Speaker 6: the Sony influence.
- 17:32Speaker 5: God, it's going to get worse. They're doing another Venom movie.
- 17:35Speaker 5: They're doing.
- 17:36Speaker 7: Venom made a.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Lot of money. A lot of his other. Man, that
- 17:39Speaker 5: movie didn't. As much money. I mean, as much as
- 17:42Speaker 5: people didn't love it. Again, it was one of those.
- 17:45Speaker 5: It was like, I thought it was going to be terrible.
- 17:47Speaker 8: That's all right.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Like, I think that was everyone's.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I like Venom. It was fine. Source material. What's that? No,
- 17:53Speaker 5: let's just make a complete ridiculous comedy out of it.
- 17:56Speaker 5: I mean, honestly, if you would tell me back 15
- 17:58Speaker 5: years and showed me that I would have been like,
- 18:00Speaker 5: is that an SNL skit? Making fun of Venom?
- 18:02Speaker 8: Like it.
- 18:03Speaker 5: To be here alive today, and that was a realistic
- 18:07Speaker 5: take on Venom. I'm like, in what multiverse? Like, read
- 18:11Speaker 5: a Venom comic. Nothing about that was Venom. Literally nothing
- 18:16Speaker 5: in that.
- 18:16Speaker 6: And then jump to almost making him a hero.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:20Speaker 6: I'm just like, what are you doing?
- 18:22Speaker 5: He's an anti-hero in a comic, but he was a
- 18:26Speaker 5: full-on villain for a long time first.
- 18:28Speaker 8: Not just a villain.
- 18:29Speaker 5: He was a vicious villain.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:31Speaker 5: One thing to tease, something like carnage. You just took
- 18:34Speaker 5: a villain and made him a joke alternate personality in
- 18:37Speaker 5: this dude's head. I'm supposed to care about carnage now?
- 18:41Speaker 5: What's he going to be? Is he going to get
- 18:43Speaker 5: two personalities stuck in his head? What weird thing are
- 18:46Speaker 5: you going to do? Because it's not going to be carnage.
- 18:49Speaker 5: If you didn't even do Venom R-rated, you're not doing carnage, PG.
- 18:53Speaker 5: There's no way that's going to be carnage. And I
- 18:55Speaker 5: don't know how I feel about a Woody Harrelson as carnage.
- 18:58Speaker 5: On all levels, like what? Is Sony doing? I don't
- 19:02Speaker 5: understand over there.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I can see Woody Harrelson doing a good demented weirdo,
- 19:09Speaker 1: if nothing else.
- 19:09Speaker 5: He can do that. Natural born killers.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I was going to say, he can do that,
- 19:13Speaker 6: but it's also been a while since he's been that
- 19:16Speaker 6: level of crazy. He's kind of moved into the old
- 19:20Speaker 6: tired guy role, like all of the stuff. You know,
- 19:23Speaker 6: it's like the Hunger Games and Star Wars. It's like
- 19:25Speaker 6: he's just like.
- 19:26Speaker 1: True detective.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Damn it, I don't want to get up and have
- 19:29Speaker 5: to fight you. But I guess I will.
- 19:31Speaker 7: I'm the hero.
- 19:32Speaker 5: I guess I will.
- 19:33Speaker 7: Sort of a hero, depending on the movie.
- 19:36Speaker 6: But yeah, I don't know that any of the ideas
- 19:38Speaker 6: that come up with Venom will compete with.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Because you said the SNL skit.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Did you see the YouTube thing where they combined Venom
- 19:47Speaker 6: with the Robin Williams version of Flo?
- 19:50Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Did they really? Go Google it up. The more I
- 19:55Speaker 5: was like, God, that's kind of a genius idea. Way
- 19:58Speaker 5: to go. It seems like... I didn't watch Venom in theaters.
- 20:05Speaker 5: So I waited until it was out and released to
- 20:07Speaker 5: watch it. But I'd seen... so many joke skits on
- 20:11Speaker 5: it going into it that I was just like, is
- 20:14Speaker 5: it really this bad? Like, are you really taking this
- 20:16Speaker 5: and making it this silly or is it already kind
- 20:18Speaker 5: of silly and you're just running with it? And so
- 20:20Speaker 5: I was surprised to see, like, maybe somehow if I
- 20:23Speaker 5: hadn't seen that stuff, I would have seen it serious,
- 20:25Speaker 5: but I can't imagine. It just felt like the movie
- 20:28Speaker 5: itself was just like, we're going to be silly. We're
- 20:31Speaker 5: going to be the silly comedy out of a really dark,
- 20:37Speaker 5: They're like... Villain character. I didn't get it.
- 20:39Speaker 1: It's working out for, like, Guardians and stuff. But why
- 20:42Speaker 1: can't we... We should do that with Venom? Like, Venom?
- 20:46Speaker 5: Especially, like, the restaurant when he's, like, getting in the
- 20:49Speaker 5: lobster tank and stuff. I'm like, what is going... This
- 20:53Speaker 5: tone is a completely different thing. Like, you show me
- 20:57Speaker 5: anything anywhere in Venom stories where it had this kind of, like,
- 21:00Speaker 5: soft comedic touch.
- 21:02Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 21:03Speaker 5: I don't want to rant on Venom. That wasn't my point.
- 21:05Speaker 5: But I just... I only mention it because... You know,
- 21:08Speaker 5: it was, it's hard for me to even say out loud,
- 21:11Speaker 5: it was a success. I mean, it made a good
- 21:15Speaker 5: amount of money, yeah. They're grabbing these other B-grade, well,
- 21:18Speaker 5: not the Venoms B-grade, but they're grabbing like B-grade Venom
- 21:21Speaker 5: baddies now that Marvel don't have prospects for to do
- 21:24Speaker 5: solo movies that I'm like, oh my gosh, I want
- 21:28Speaker 5: to say they're going to tank even worse, but somehow
- 21:30Speaker 5: you made Venom quote-unquote successful. So it's just going to be,
- 21:34Speaker 5: I feel like it's going to be this weird thing
- 21:35Speaker 5: where Sony's creating this universe that they want peter in
- 21:38Speaker 5: in the worst way and marvel kind of hopefully just
- 21:42Speaker 5: keeps going nope nope you guys are hard up we
- 21:45Speaker 5: don't care how many tough luck how many movies you
- 21:48Speaker 5: make with his baddies you're not getting him like he
- 21:51Speaker 5: is staying.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Over here if they're smart if disney money's running things
- 21:56Speaker 6: which i hope it continues there was.
- 21:57Speaker 5: One um there was one live flub where kevin feige
- 22:02Speaker 5: and um someone behind the venom movie we're doing like
- 22:05Speaker 5: a live interview kind of thing And she just straight
- 22:09Speaker 5: up said, oh, yeah, like, this is Spider-Man's universe. And
- 22:11Speaker 5: Feige was like, no, it's not. Like, he, like, completely
- 22:15Speaker 5: broke nice guy kayfabe in interviews. Like, no, it's not.
- 22:19Speaker 5: He just, like, interjected it, and she kind of stopped.
- 22:21Speaker 14: Like, oh.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Like, she realized she crossed that line. He was like, mm-mm.
- 22:25Speaker 7: I thought we could slip that in.
- 22:27Speaker 5: So they really won it, but.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Of sillier superheroes, did you also get Shazam?
- 22:34Speaker 1: Yes, I did see that one.
- 22:36Speaker 5: I mean, I don't have anything invested in that.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Like, the most I ever had was the TV show
- 22:41Speaker 6: that I don't even remember watching any of. So, like,
- 22:44Speaker 6: I just know it as its own silly.
- 22:47Speaker 5: The timing is really interesting.
- 22:49Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Because Marvel Comics, I believe, had to go to court
- 22:56Speaker 5: over his name. I think the reason he used to
- 22:59Speaker 5: be Marvel. Yeah. And I think he was Shazam after
- 23:02Speaker 5: they kind of sued for that and stuff. Because there's
- 23:04Speaker 5: even a.
- 23:06Speaker 5: There's a cover of one of Captain Marvel's comics where
- 23:11Speaker 5: it's like her even saying it something now, like, you know, like,
- 23:16Speaker 5: I'm Captain Marvel now. There's some weird cover of an
- 23:20Speaker 5: issue where they even addressed it like, we're Marvel, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 5: not that other guy. And I was like, geez, that
- 23:26Speaker 5: was like an aggressive takeover to name. So it's just
- 23:28Speaker 5: ironic that like three, four weeks apart, these movies are
- 23:31Speaker 5: going to drop. If you're a comic reader, it's a
- 23:34Speaker 5: weird little.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Yeah. weird easter egg i mean it's just the we're
- 23:39Speaker 6: just going by the chazam trailer i'm like there's just
- 23:42Speaker 6: totally fully committing to making kind of a superhero comedy
- 23:46Speaker 6: like i guess at the end they'll try to turn
- 23:48Speaker 6: it into.
- 23:49Speaker 5: A real superhero movie but dc and it's kind of
- 23:52Speaker 5: perfect i mean it really is his character though like
- 23:54Speaker 5: he is a light-hearted he's super strong that's what's weird
- 23:57Speaker 5: is in the dc continuity he is really strong but
- 24:00Speaker 5: he is legit a kid so it's a little bit
- 24:02Speaker 5: of that I don't want to say Scott Pilgrim, but
- 24:04Speaker 5: it's like, he has that kind of lighthearted, this is
- 24:06Speaker 5: fun aspect to him. It's almost like Spider-Man and Superman's body.
- 24:10Speaker 5: He has this kind of like, this is great, this
- 24:12Speaker 5: is fun, and that could be a lot of fun
- 24:14Speaker 5: in a movie. And maybe it's good, because I was
- 24:17Speaker 5: about to say, you know, with their usually dark tone,
- 24:20Speaker 5: maybe this is good to have a really lighthearted movie
- 24:23Speaker 5: to go.
- 24:23Speaker 13: Completely.
- 24:24Speaker 6: I mean, they take so much shit in DC for
- 24:27Speaker 6: being dark, evil dark, you know, like everything had to
- 24:30Speaker 6: be even when.
- 24:31Speaker 5: It didn't need to be, most of which didn't need
- 24:33Speaker 5: to be. Well, and even Aquaman broke that mold. I
- 24:36Speaker 5: don't think there was anything overly dark about that movie either.
- 24:39Speaker 5: It was definitely very bright and colorful and light. They're trying.
- 24:43Speaker 5: They're still making some odd choices. I personally enjoyed Aquaman.
- 24:49Speaker 5: I think that there is, I think it's a good movie.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I think there's a great movie in there with editing.
- 24:55Speaker 5: It's like two hours and 15 minutes long, and I
- 24:58Speaker 5: found myself As I was watching it, I watched it
- 25:01Speaker 5: like three times. I actually really liked it. But there
- 25:03Speaker 5: were moments where I was like, cut that five minutes.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Cut that two minutes. Cut that five minutes. Cut that
- 25:08Speaker 5: line completely. And I found it, you know, you take
- 25:10Speaker 5: only about 10, 15 minutes out of this, it's solid.
- 25:13Speaker 5: I feel like when it's bad, I feel like it
- 25:16Speaker 5: happens in these little concentrated moments where it's like, if
- 25:20Speaker 5: you just take that out, it'll be fine. But there's
- 25:23Speaker 5: so many... There are some really cheesy, cheesy moments that
- 25:27Speaker 5: the music makes worse. It's weird how sometimes the music
- 25:30Speaker 5: just goes, like does this guitar strum. As he says
- 25:34Speaker 5: something terribly cheesy, I'm like, take that 30 seconds out.
- 25:38Speaker 5: And that scene ends so much better. So I trust you.
- 25:43Speaker 1: So I should watch Aquaman.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Aquaman visually is so amazing. There are, like I said,
- 25:49Speaker 5: it's too long. It should have been edited down. Even
- 25:52Speaker 5: as you watch it, you kind of find yourself going, man,
- 25:54Speaker 5: this is still going.
- 25:55Speaker 6: Especially for something that's like that one more than the
- 25:58Speaker 6: others could be extra kid-friendly. I mean, Batman is because
- 26:02Speaker 6: it's got its following, but Batman's dark in nature. Aquaman
- 26:06Speaker 6: has never been dark, so it seemed like it would
- 26:08Speaker 6: be a great... Okay, let's bring the superhero movies.
- 26:10Speaker 5: There's dark aspects. He had his hand cut and stuff
- 26:12Speaker 5: like that. Yeah, in the comics. Things that happened, but...
- 26:15Speaker 5: Any other representation of him has never been dark, so...
- 26:18Speaker 5: I really enjoyed that movie. And maybe it's because going
- 26:21Speaker 5: into it, I heard so much crap. And like I said,
- 26:24Speaker 5: even as I watched it, though, there are some terrible parts.
- 26:27Speaker 5: I can completely admit that. And if I had the
- 26:29Speaker 5: ability to edit, I would go in... I'm telling you,
- 26:31Speaker 5: cut out about 10, 12 minutes. It's not even that much.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Because when the terrible parts happen, it seems like they're
- 26:38Speaker 5: these concentrated little things. And it's like, there is a director's... Well,
- 26:42Speaker 5: I shouldn't say director's cut. There is an edit of
- 26:44Speaker 5: this that could be really solid. But man, visually, I just... Visually,
- 26:50Speaker 5: it was the Doctor Strange thing all over again. Even
- 26:53Speaker 5: though Doctor Strange for most might be an okay movie,
- 26:56Speaker 5: for me, when he was blinking through dimensions, you got
- 26:59Speaker 5: all those Kirby illustrations done in full scope. I'm like,
- 27:02Speaker 5: oh my gosh, this is so great. In the end battle,
- 27:06Speaker 5: those creatures look so good. The fact that they kept
- 27:09Speaker 5: Ocean Master's gear, kept his name, all those cheesy things
- 27:13Speaker 5: for me work. When everything's cheesy, nothing stands out as cheesy,
- 27:17Speaker 5: if that makes sense. If you commit, you don't stick
- 27:20Speaker 5: out like a sore thumb. So when they go in
- 27:22Speaker 5: Atlantis and everything is bonkers underwater world, I'm just like,
- 27:25Speaker 5: this is fucking great. I really, really dug it. And
- 27:29Speaker 5: there's one of the prettiest scenes I've seen in all
- 27:34Speaker 5: of the movies. There's a scene where they go diving.
- 27:38Speaker 5: And this red light is kind of following them down
- 27:40Speaker 5: in the water. And it's just so gorgeous. It reminded
- 27:42Speaker 5: me of the first time I saw 300. There was
- 27:44Speaker 5: a scene in that where all the boats are sinking
- 27:46Speaker 5: in the water. And it's kind of done in this
- 27:48Speaker 5: epic slow motion shot. There's a scene like that in
- 27:51Speaker 5: there where they go diving. This red light follows them.
- 27:53Speaker 5: And for like 45 seconds, it was just like some
- 27:56Speaker 5: of the prettiest stuff I've ever seen in any movie.
- 27:59Speaker 5: This aesthetically is just killing it right now. So it
- 28:04Speaker 5: has moments that I think are really fantastic and moments
- 28:07Speaker 5: that are just like, why did you keep these? Like,
- 28:10Speaker 5: please cut these out.
- 28:11Speaker 1: But worth watching. Like, I can.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I can recognize those bad parts and just go, eh.
- 28:16Speaker 5: Honestly, the thing is, the bad parts are kind of
- 28:18Speaker 5: Venom bad parts. You will probably laugh at it and
- 28:20Speaker 5: be like, God, that was awful. You know, and so
- 28:23Speaker 5: it brings it out of serious and a little silly,
- 28:25Speaker 5: but I never felt like it goes from silly into terrible.
- 28:28Speaker 5: If that makes sense. It brings it down a little,
- 28:30Speaker 5: but it doesn't bring it down in a way where
- 28:31Speaker 5: you go, oh, this is terrible. I can't do this.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Not acceptable. There's just moments where you're like, okay, you
- 28:36Speaker 5: probably should have pulled that punch. You shouldn't have said
- 28:38Speaker 5: that there. And like I said, the music doesn't help.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Whoever did the music, one is it's mostly just generic.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Like as in he doesn't have a theme. That bugs me.
- 28:48Speaker 5: If you do a movie about a character. Especially a superhero.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Indiana Jones has a theme. Star Wars has. Characters have
- 28:55Speaker 5: themes and he has no theme. Wonder Woman has a theme.
- 28:59Speaker 5: When they start going off on ukuleles or whatever, she
- 29:02Speaker 5: has a theme. He has no theme because it's just
- 29:04Speaker 5: generic orchestra stuff that you couldn't pull out from anything else.
- 29:09Speaker 5: But in particular, my point is that for some reason,
- 29:11Speaker 5: there are times where this electric guitar will just strum
- 29:15Speaker 5: after a one-liner. It stands out so bad because you're like, okay,
- 29:19Speaker 5: this whole movie... It's orchestra music, and then he'll say
- 29:23Speaker 5: some cheesy line. He's just, and they let it resonate.
- 29:27Speaker 5: You're like, that just made it 10 times worse. That
- 29:30Speaker 5: line was so bad, and you just acted like it
- 29:33Speaker 5: was a mic drop with the music, and it's so bad.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Was it in the orchestra, or was it just on set?
- 29:40Speaker 5: It's separate. You know how the Wonder Woman music pops out?
- 29:44Speaker 5: It'll be orchestra, but then when Wonder Woman starts doing stuff,
- 29:47Speaker 5: then it kicks into what's clearly not orchestra, a little
- 29:51Speaker 5: fast strumming stuff. It's like that. When the guitar part
- 29:54Speaker 5: stands out.
- 29:55Speaker 3: It's like.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Is that supposed to be Momoa's theme? The guitar riffs? Like,
- 29:59Speaker 5: is that supposed to feel like Aquaman's... He just seems
- 30:02Speaker 5: like a pretty laid-back dude.
- 30:03Speaker 6: I feel like he's just on set playing with his guitar.
- 30:06Speaker 5: And like, no, that line's really cool. Listen.
- 30:08Speaker 6: Like, yeah. I mean, he did just almost die in
- 30:11Speaker 6: a plane crash. Their interview with him was like, yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 6: we had some problems.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I'm like, can you get more chill than Jason? Yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 5: he's very... He's a laid-back dude. They fully commit to
- 30:22Speaker 5: the bro thing. The bro thing that they established with
- 30:24Speaker 5: him in Justice League is.
- 30:26Speaker 6: oh god see that was the part that killed it for.
- 30:28Speaker 7: Me i was just like.
- 30:30Speaker 5: It's them reinventing aquaman he he was i don't know
- 30:34Speaker 5: i don't want to start comic brands but they they
- 30:35Speaker 5: wanted to instill a personality they gave him a personality
- 30:38Speaker 5: whether you like it or not he has a very
- 30:40Speaker 5: different personality and it's very surfer.
- 30:42Speaker 6: Bro i think they just had to go opposite like
- 30:45Speaker 6: he again he'd gotten such a dorky reputation and all
- 30:49Speaker 6: the animated stuff and everybody just made fun of the
- 30:51Speaker 6: whole idea was like what have we made him like
- 30:53Speaker 6: a cool surfer dude and like i don't know All right,
- 30:56Speaker 6: that's a way you could go, but.
- 30:57Speaker 7: All right. We've rambled enough about comics.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Let's take a break and come back with the actual movie.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Well, the volcano's exploded.
- 31:38Speaker 8: We've got to act fast.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Batman, Robin, you find some way to block future transmissions.
- 31:43Speaker 11: Wonder Woman, you stop Dr. Spiker and find out what
- 31:45Speaker 11: he knows. Flash, you run to the Andes Mountains and
- 31:48Speaker 11: get those plans. I'll go stop the missiles that have
- 31:52Speaker 11: already been launched. Aquaman, you go talk to some fish.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Crisp, flavorful fish sandwiches, golden brown and crunchy outside, and
- 32:09Speaker 2: tender and juicy inside for a snack or a meal.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I looked in the eyes of evil that night, decided
- 32:16Speaker 2: I would become a symbol of hope. But I'm not
- 32:18Speaker 2: a hero. I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be. And
- 32:22Speaker 2: right now, Gotham needs me to have a coffee. I
- 32:26Speaker 2: need a bad espresso.
- 32:28Speaker 7: I know you like coffee.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, is this a segue to something?
- 32:34Speaker 8: What?
- 32:35Speaker 5: You don't want to run out to Heine Brothers right now?
- 32:37Speaker 3: Actually, now that you mention it, I'm drinking some fine
- 32:40Speaker 3: coffee here, but I feel like enjoying a nice hot
- 32:43Speaker 3: cup from my local Heine Brothers might actually be an
- 32:46Speaker 3: even better idea.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Well, really, you don't even have to leave the house.
- 32:49Speaker 5: You could just have it ordered right to your doorstep.

- 33:10Speaker 12: Right there.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you heard it. And then let's run out, jump
- 33:14Speaker 3: in the car, and then screech sound effect as we
- 33:16Speaker 3: head on down to our local Heine Brothers.

- 36:28Speaker 5: Yeah.

- 36:32Speaker 6: us kind of a good way to come up with something.

- 38:23Speaker 8: We found you with no memory.
- 38:26Speaker 3: We made you.
- 38:28Speaker 5: One of us.
- 38:30Speaker 11: So you could live longer, stronger, superior.
- 38:37Speaker 2: You were reborn.
- 38:41Speaker 5: I keep having these.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Memories. Something in my past is.
- 38:47Speaker 5: The key to all of this.
- 38:52Speaker 8: You know how to fly this thing?
- 38:53Speaker 5: We'll see.
- 38:56Speaker 8: That's a yes or no question.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 39:04Speaker 5: Would you like to know.
- 39:08Speaker 8: What you really are?
- 39:13Speaker 12: I think I had a life here.
- 39:16Speaker 6: What aren't you telling me?
- 39:19Speaker 5: You've come a long way.
- 39:22Speaker 8: But you're not as strong as you think. This war
- 39:28Speaker 8: is just the beginning.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I'm not going to fight your war.
- 39:35Speaker 12: I'm going to end it.
- 39:49Speaker 5: Aren't you the cutest little thing?
- 39:51Speaker 8: Aren't you cute? And what's your name, huh?
- 39:54Speaker 14: Curious.
- 40:01Speaker 4: As you are, as you were, as I want you
- 40:07Speaker 4: to be. As a friend, as a friend, as an
- 40:14Speaker 4: old enemy.
- 40:16Speaker 8: Take your time, hurry up. The choice is yours, so
- 40:21Speaker 8: don't be late.
- 40:23Speaker 5: Take a rest.
- 40:26Speaker 8: So, as I said, we.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Came out of our hiatus and went out on the town.
- 40:36Speaker 4: So we've left the house and.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Some of us got there a few minutes beforehand and
- 40:56Speaker 6: didn't have to interact with people, so that was cool.
- 40:59Speaker 6: It's making it easier for us to be antisocial and
- 41:01Speaker 6: see new movies. So, this week's Out on the Town
- 41:05Speaker 6: feature is Captain Marvel.
- 41:07Speaker 5: The year is 2019.
- 41:08Speaker 6: The directors are Anna Boden and Ryan Flick.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Two directors? I didn't know that.
- 41:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't know that going in. I saw that
- 41:18Speaker 6: the other day after I was done. I was like, wait,
- 41:20Speaker 6: who did direct this one?
- 41:22Speaker 1: And I was like, I saw that in the credits
- 41:24Speaker 1: and I was like, huh?
- 41:25Speaker 6: And they've always worked together. I started going back to
- 41:27Speaker 6: look at their other stuff. And I don't think there's
- 41:30Speaker 6: any reason they're not related. They're not a couple. I
- 41:32Speaker 6: think they just like the way the other person works.
- 41:35Speaker 6: And it seems like all of their work, definitely features,
- 41:39Speaker 6: have been together. But I think they've even done TV
- 41:42Speaker 6: work together.
- 41:42Speaker 7: So it's, yeah, very interesting.
- 41:45Speaker 5: Duo directors works for Marvel every now and then. And
- 41:48Speaker 5: they plot, according to IMDb.
- 41:50Speaker 6: Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes
- 41:54Speaker 6: when the Earth is caught in the middle of a
- 41:56Speaker 6: galactic war between two alien races.
- 42:00Speaker 8: Okay, whatever.
- 42:01Speaker 6: Spoiler alert, we're going to run the hell out of this.
- 42:04Speaker 6: Hopefully by now, in those millions and millions.
- 42:06Speaker 5: Of dollars you've already contributed and have seen.
- 42:10Speaker 4: It.
- 42:11Speaker 6: I was going to say, before we even get to
- 42:13Speaker 6: the movie, do we at least want to comment that
- 42:15Speaker 6: Stan got his own little Marvel intro?
- 42:18Speaker 5: That That made me tear a little. It was, I mean, yeah.
- 42:21Speaker 5: Because I didn't expect it. So when the montages were
- 42:24Speaker 5: happening and they were all Stan, I'm like, oh, this
- 42:26Speaker 5: is cool. And then when it did the actual thank
- 42:28Speaker 5: you Stan, I was like, goddammit. He did just die.
- 42:31Speaker 5: I think I'd kind of shut that out. I was like, hmm.
- 42:34Speaker 5: It's okay. We're still going to see him in movies.
- 42:36Speaker 5: It's fine. And his scene was great.
- 42:39Speaker 6: His cameo was pretty damn funny.
- 42:40Speaker 5: That was a pretty... I really wonder... How much foresight
- 42:46Speaker 5: was in that, though? Because the shot with the actual
- 42:48Speaker 5: mole rat script covers his face. I almost feel like
- 42:51Speaker 5: maybe even after Kevin's heart attack, they're like, all right,
- 42:54Speaker 5: let's put a little mole rats throwback in here from
- 42:58Speaker 5: the 90s in here. Let's put something in there. Because
- 43:00Speaker 5: I don't think the shot with his face, you can
- 43:02Speaker 5: see the front of it. So part of me was like,
- 43:03Speaker 5: did they add that in later? Maybe it was going
- 43:06Speaker 5: to be a different movie even. They're like, let's make
- 43:07Speaker 5: it mole rats with everything going on with Kevin. It
- 43:10Speaker 5: is 90s and stuff. But that was fun.
- 43:14Speaker 6: Definitely to jump to stand so other than that I
- 43:19Speaker 6: don't know where do we for once we got an
- 43:22Speaker 6: origin story then I'm like thank god it's an origin
- 43:25Speaker 6: story because nobody knows at least normal people like I
- 43:29Speaker 6: mean as much as I have paid attention to comics
- 43:32Speaker 6: semi but like I still didn't know any of the
- 43:35Speaker 6: backstory I didn't know how it tied into it so
- 43:39Speaker 6: the fact and granted they kind of have license to
- 43:41Speaker 6: do their own thing and they do but Oh, and
- 43:44Speaker 6: they did.
- 43:45Speaker 5: And they did.
- 43:45Speaker 6: From what I've heard, they threw a lot of stuff
- 43:48Speaker 6: out the window.
- 43:48Speaker 5: There's some fundamental comic stuff that they flipped.
- 43:51Speaker 6: But I like that.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Like, I like them creating their own take on it.
- 43:55Speaker 5: They're taking it all in.
- 43:56Speaker 6: They're using it for whatever references they want or to
- 43:59Speaker 6: at least be a nod to, like, hey, we know
- 44:02Speaker 6: there is other stuff out there in the comics.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 44:05Speaker 5: But then doing their own thing and creating their own...
- 44:08Speaker 5: The Marvel Universe.
- 44:10Speaker 6: in the cinematic version is different than anything else. It
- 44:13Speaker 6: creates its own weird little subsection of Marvel reality. So
- 44:17Speaker 6: I'm kind of okay with them doing that, but it
- 44:20Speaker 6: is one of those, like, as we got into this,
- 44:21Speaker 6: it's like, Oh no, this is full on origin story
- 44:25Speaker 6: that we needed.
- 44:25Speaker 5: Cause if you came, which we haven't had.
- 44:27Speaker 6: In a long time.
- 44:28Speaker 5: She's one of those characters has been around so long.
- 44:30Speaker 5: She's been rebooted so many times, you know, in comics,
- 44:32Speaker 5: they say how many issue number ones you have. She's
- 44:35Speaker 5: had so many number ones that I think even as
- 44:38Speaker 5: a comic reader, like, okay, which one are we getting?
- 44:40Speaker 5: Like which Carol Danvers are we getting here? And it's
- 44:42Speaker 5: the most modern one. The one that is actually, I
- 44:45Speaker 5: forget her name. It's written by a woman. Her run
- 44:47Speaker 5: right now is female written. She's in it. She has a,
- 44:52Speaker 5: somewhere in the subway scene, she, she walks away, she
- 44:54Speaker 5: has red hair and glasses. She has a very distinct look.
- 44:57Speaker 5: And I saw her at some point in the subway part,
- 45:00Speaker 5: but that's the version they seem to be going with
- 45:02Speaker 5: her most kind of modern one. Which I think we needed.
- 45:05Speaker 5: Cause I mean, it's, She's the strongest version of her.
- 45:08Speaker 5: In the comics, she's going toe-to-toe with Tony Stark in
- 45:12Speaker 5: the most recent Civil War arc and stuff. Head-to-head, not
- 45:15Speaker 5: just different opinions. She's the one that was kind of like,
- 45:18Speaker 5: I have my team, you have your team. So she
- 45:20Speaker 5: kind of became the new Captain America. If you want
- 45:23Speaker 5: to reference into the first Civil War, it was Captain
- 45:25Speaker 5: America versus Stark. When they did it again, it was
- 45:27Speaker 5: Carol Danvers. So in the comics, she really is being
- 45:30Speaker 5: pushed up. She's got the power and the know-how and
- 45:35Speaker 5: everything to lead Which I think is obviously what's going
- 45:38Speaker 5: to happen here. I feel like a lot of these
- 45:40Speaker 5: guys are going to fade out, you know, in this
- 45:43Speaker 5: next Avengers movie. And she probably will be like the
- 45:45Speaker 5: Tony Stark kind of... Which I felt her humor was
- 45:48Speaker 5: kind of trying to be. She's a bit dry, snarky
- 45:51Speaker 5: and dry. Like, it kind of felt like old school.
- 45:53Speaker 6: As if that didn't seem enough, the t-shirts, for God's sakes.
- 45:56Speaker 6: I was like.
- 45:57Speaker 5: This movie is.
- 45:59Speaker 13: Like.
- 46:01Speaker 5: I kept thinking Family Guy in my head. I was like,
- 46:04Speaker 5: there's a point, you know, because I always joke when
- 46:05Speaker 5: you watch Family Guy, you can't like Family Guy, you
- 46:08Speaker 5: like the 80s, you know, because the whole show is
- 46:10Speaker 5: just referencing the 80s or 90s. I was like, there
- 46:12Speaker 5: was part of me was like doing that. I'm like,
- 46:14Speaker 5: I like this movie, but there's so much 80s and
- 46:17Speaker 5: 90s in it. It's hard to separate what's this movie
- 46:20Speaker 5: and what's just member berries. I'm like, what? There was
- 46:23Speaker 5: a lot, a lot of 80s and 90s throwbacks.
- 46:26Speaker 6: A lot of 90s kids references and some of which
- 46:31Speaker 6: wrong like.
- 46:33Speaker 5: This movie create a lot of continuity issues for me
- 46:36Speaker 5: i have so many questions i feel like they just
- 46:39Speaker 5: basically like threw that out there as like that's of
- 46:42Speaker 5: all the other stuff that i think is so well
- 46:44Speaker 5: done it's like it's just in this last day or
- 46:46Speaker 5: so when i was like going back and getting stuff
- 46:48Speaker 5: ready to talk about it i was just like well
- 46:50Speaker 5: yeah they did do this.
- 46:51Speaker 6: And like wait is that even the right time and
- 46:54Speaker 6: then like it's kind of not and like there's the
- 46:57Speaker 6: stuff that's like disconnected from it and we're just getting
- 47:00Speaker 6: but there's like working in come as you are like
- 47:04Speaker 6: that's in what's going on she references it in there
- 47:07Speaker 6: it's not just background music the audience is hearing like
- 47:10Speaker 6: and I'm like that album's not out no and to
- 47:13Speaker 6: take it farther it's funny because that was one of
- 47:15Speaker 6: the few things I did see kind of like I
- 47:18Speaker 6: don't want to say slip, but one of the Easter
- 47:20Speaker 6: eggs I did read ahead of time because someone threw
- 47:22Speaker 6: a fit about that on YouTube.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 5: In particular because they played a vinyl and they're like, okay,
- 47:27Speaker 5: you could have made the argument if it was just
- 47:29Speaker 5: a song, but the vinyl and dude like geeks out,
- 47:31Speaker 5: the vinyl didn't come out to like 97 and this, this,
- 47:34Speaker 5: this and blah, blah, blah. And if she left at this,
- 47:36Speaker 5: she wouldn't have even been on earth to hear that.
- 47:38Speaker 6: And you would have been a dork if you were
- 47:40Speaker 6: playing vinyl in the 90s. Like if you would have been,
- 47:43Speaker 6: look at my shiny CD, you would have.
- 47:45Speaker 5: Been excited, but.
- 47:46Speaker 6: Nobody was gladly playing vinyl then. It wasn't a thing
- 47:50Speaker 6: until now. So, again, they're like almost appealing to both
- 47:54Speaker 6: ends of the like, 90s kids love this and dorky
- 47:57Speaker 6: kids now like vinyl.
- 47:59Speaker 5: Honestly, it doesn't even work in the 80s. 80s was
- 48:00Speaker 5: cassette tapes.
- 48:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:02Speaker 5: You know, like if in their head records was like
- 48:04Speaker 5: a throwback, supposed to be like a timepiece thing. It's like, no.
- 48:07Speaker 7: Not for 91.
- 48:08Speaker 5: 80s it was tapes, man. It was Walkmans. It was
- 48:11Speaker 5: not records. Maybe my parents. My parents had records. But kids,
- 48:17Speaker 5: cassette tapes.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I saw a lot of those kind of like in,
- 48:21Speaker 1: was it 89 or 88 when she, like that was
- 48:24Speaker 1: her last year.
- 48:24Speaker 5: I went back to look. I think it's 89.
- 48:26Speaker 1: There were like arcade games that weren't out yet, like
- 48:28Speaker 1: Street Fighter 2.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. I would say they was like, yeah.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Stuff like that. That was like, did the writers either A,
- 48:38Speaker 1: not check, or B, don't care. They just want the reference.
- 48:42Speaker 6: I was like, I think they just committed to like, again,
- 48:44Speaker 6: because like the nineties thing is such a big push now,
- 48:48Speaker 6: even though it's coming out of like ladies and some
- 48:50Speaker 6: of that, but so much of it felt like the
- 48:52Speaker 6: nineties push that I was just like, did you just
- 48:55Speaker 6: commit that? Like, okay, well we're doing it. You know,
- 48:57Speaker 6: it's a time travel movie. So we'll just commit to that.
- 48:59Speaker 6: And like, just nobody checked anything from that point on.
- 49:03Speaker 6: Cause even the most signature thing is the nine inch
- 49:06Speaker 6: nails shirt. And I'm like, would she have even, I
- 49:09Speaker 6: was like, you can go with the, she just needed
- 49:11Speaker 6: something to put on that wasn't the suit, grabbed whatever
- 49:13Speaker 6: was on the mannequin. But, again, I'm like, knowing that
- 49:17Speaker 6: she is a music fan in her regular world that
- 49:19Speaker 6: we what little window we see into it like why
- 49:23Speaker 6: would she because i'm like pretty hate machine would have
- 49:25Speaker 6: been the only reason any normal person would have known
- 49:28Speaker 6: about 94 i mean broken.
- 49:29Speaker 5: Probably was out But I don't think Downward Spiral had
- 49:35Speaker 5: hit yet.
- 49:35Speaker 1: No.
- 49:36Speaker 5: If anything made them mainstream, it would have been Downward Spiral.
- 49:39Speaker 5: So I was like, that would have been a really
- 49:40Speaker 5: neat shirt to be wearing in 94. She was super cut.
- 49:44Speaker 5: And it was on a mannequin in the front of
- 49:46Speaker 5: a store. Like, it was the super hot item. Wait,
- 49:49Speaker 5: it was 94? With a flannel and some jeans on
- 49:51Speaker 5: top of that.
- 49:52Speaker 6: See, that's the thing.
- 49:53Speaker 5: She was.
- 49:54Speaker 6: Is that when she came back was 94?
- 49:55Speaker 5: 94 or 95.
- 49:55Speaker 6: Because then.
- 49:57Speaker 5: It was 94 or 96. It was somewhere in that
- 49:59Speaker 5: middle part of the 90s.
- 50:00Speaker 6: But I'm like, she wouldn't have even known what it was.
- 50:03Speaker 6: if she disappeared in, what was it, 89? Because then
- 50:08Speaker 6: I went and looked, even for Pretty Hate Machine, I
- 50:10Speaker 6: think it's the end of 89. It's like October 89.
- 50:13Speaker 6: It just barely stayed in the 80s.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Maybe she grabbed that on the way out to get
- 50:18Speaker 5: in the plane and was like, I heard this is
- 50:20Speaker 5: a good album. And put it in her CD deck
- 50:23Speaker 5: in her plane. I don't know.
- 50:25Speaker 6: It was just like, that was just, For one of
- 50:27Speaker 6: the most iconic things about her.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Like, she wears that shirt most of the movie. She
- 50:31Speaker 5: wears it for most of the movie. Yeah, it's like
- 50:32Speaker 5: she doesn't change out of her 90s.
- 50:34Speaker 1: She's like, okay, girl. We get it.
- 50:36Speaker 5: We all like Trent. It's cool. But, like, yeah. Except him.
- 50:41Speaker 5: That's ironic. Because he kind of hates 90s snails now.
- 50:45Speaker 5: So the irony is that you're trying to do this throwback.
- 50:48Speaker 5: And the man himself is probably rolling his eyes like,
- 50:50Speaker 5: not again. Composing scores now. I don't have time for
- 50:53Speaker 5: that shit. Don't associate me with the 90s. I'm sure
- 50:56Speaker 5: he's grumpy more.
- 50:58Speaker 12: It's his thing.
- 51:00Speaker 6: So, yeah, that was just jumping on that.
- 51:03Speaker 5: And that's not even plot stuff, though. That's just little stuff.
- 51:07Speaker 5: The Tesseract Cube. What in the world? I don't understand
- 51:12Speaker 5: so much.
- 51:12Speaker 6: It's not jumped around so many times because they keep
- 51:15Speaker 6: referencing it.
- 51:16Speaker 5: It's just, I mean, so now Stark found it after
- 51:21Speaker 5: Captain America.
- 51:22Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 51:23Speaker 5: But at the point of the first Avengers movie, S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 51:26Speaker 5: had it. So, Samuel, we just imagine somehow in that
- 51:30Speaker 5: time era there, they somehow got it, created light speed technology,
- 51:34Speaker 5: but then somehow lost it back to them. Like, how
- 51:37Speaker 5: did he get it back is what I don't understand.
- 51:39Speaker 5: If they got it enough to create that technology, how
- 51:43Speaker 5: did– who did– You had it in the first Avengers.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Loki or Fury. No, Loki steals it from Fury in
- 51:50Speaker 5: the very beginning.
- 51:50Speaker 4: So S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 51:50Speaker 12: Has it.
- 51:51Speaker 5: They had it in the case, didn't they? They had
- 51:52Speaker 5: it in the case at the very beginning. How did
- 51:54Speaker 5: he get it back from the Skrulls? See, that's what
- 52:01Speaker 5: messes me up now. Because the Skrulls should be back. Well, no,
- 52:04Speaker 5: because it's from Goose. Yeah, Goose has it.
- 52:07Speaker 6: Goose ate it.
- 52:09Speaker 5: But then he pukes it back. But on Earth, because
- 52:12Speaker 5: he's sitting in his office.
- 52:13Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 52:15Speaker 5: So when... Was that still the 90s?
- 52:17Speaker 6: Yeah, because it's still his, like, normal... Because somebody brought
- 52:20Speaker 6: that up. It's not, like, Commander. It's, like, his dorky
- 52:23Speaker 6: office when he was, like, level three.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Nobody.
- 52:25Speaker 5: So then somewhere in the 60s and 70s, they stole
- 52:28Speaker 5: it and did that stuff? And then somehow it... Because
- 52:32Speaker 5: of this movie, that's how it ended up back on Earth?
- 52:36Speaker 7: I suppose.
- 52:37Speaker 5: I don't think they should have put the cube in there.
- 52:39Speaker 5: There was no need to. There was no need to
- 52:41Speaker 5: put the Tesseract cube in there. Like, literally... You didn't
- 52:45Speaker 5: need the Tesseract Cube in there.
- 52:47Speaker 6: How do we create her then?
- 52:49Speaker 5: Just like in the comics. It's just, it's some Bruce
- 52:53Speaker 5: Banner stuff where it's just like, oh, this scientific explosion
- 52:57Speaker 5: happens and now you got powers. Like the Flash, it's like, oh,
- 53:00Speaker 5: lightning struck your chemistry set. Now you're super fast.
- 53:04Speaker 6: It could be, but I was like, with what we're
- 53:06Speaker 6: working here, because that's the thing the more, again, just
- 53:09Speaker 6: the last day or so thinking about it for this,
- 53:11Speaker 6: I was like, Is that their way in now? Because
- 53:14Speaker 6: we brought up last time that only somebody who is
- 53:16Speaker 6: like created from a stone can you then destroy the
- 53:21Speaker 6: stone or the gauntlet or whatever. So like we already
- 53:24Speaker 6: kind of lost Scarlet Witch. So it's like now is
- 53:26Speaker 6: she because she's from the Tesseract essentially like she can
- 53:30Speaker 6: then destroy a stone or all of the stones or
- 53:33Speaker 6: whatever the hell needs to happen in this next one.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Is that why she's the key more so than just
- 53:38Speaker 6: because she's a super powerful badass?
- 53:39Speaker 1: I had that thought for sure.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:42Speaker 6: That's why I thought maybe they specifically made sure to
- 53:44Speaker 6: tie in a stone to it.
- 53:46Speaker 5: But the thing is, again, I'm not trying to be...
- 53:49Speaker 5: I don't want to sound pessimistic. We're just working shit
- 53:52Speaker 5: out here. It's just the way my brain works, though.
- 53:53Speaker 5: And it's like, but the stone wasn't even a part
- 53:55Speaker 5: of the engine. You know what I mean? The engine,
- 53:57Speaker 5: it blew up. Because remember, it's like, oh, it's actually
- 54:00Speaker 5: over here. That's not the core. But I'm like, okay,
- 54:02Speaker 5: then the Tesseract Cube didn't create her. Something powered by it.
- 54:07Speaker 5: I kind of thought that too at the time. But
- 54:09Speaker 5: in my head.
- 54:10Speaker 6: And later everybody keeps referencing that the Tesseract's what created it.
- 54:12Speaker 5: I was immediately like, okay, so Atlas, Jude Law, Atlas
- 54:17Speaker 5: sees her shoot with a gun, shoot this engine, get blasted,
- 54:21Speaker 5: become supercharged. Why don't you recreate that? That was my
- 54:25Speaker 5: first thing. I was like, okay, apparently Atlas was just
- 54:28Speaker 5: a little bit too far away for him to absorb it.
- 54:30Speaker 11: No.
- 54:30Speaker 5: Because they didn't act like, oh, humans can somehow absorb
- 54:34Speaker 5: this energy they didn't make any reason why carol danvers
- 54:36Speaker 5: was unique in the ability to absorb this blast why
- 54:41Speaker 5: wouldn't you recreate that like wouldn't jude law go oh
- 54:45Speaker 5: well let's get the tesseract cube make engines everyone stand
- 54:48Speaker 5: in front of them blow them up we're gonna have
- 54:50Speaker 5: a whole army you know what i'm saying like in
- 54:52Speaker 5: this weird way i was like that's in a way
- 54:54Speaker 5: that's a weird again this wasn't nitpicky but it just
- 54:57Speaker 5: it bugged me that it wasn't a unique situation that
- 55:01Speaker 5: couldn't be recreated. He watched the whole thing. And Minerva
- 55:04Speaker 5: was like, you have witnesses to how she got supercharged
- 55:07Speaker 5: instead of just trying to manipulate her, do this hard
- 55:10Speaker 5: version of brainwashing her into being on your side, just
- 55:13Speaker 5: kill her and make, recreate this situation with your guys.
- 55:17Speaker 5: And now you're, I don't know. Like I said, I, See,
- 55:20Speaker 5: that at the time didn't occur to me.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I can't get my brain off that. They should have
- 55:24Speaker 1: been the ones that were trying to get in her
- 55:26Speaker 1: memory and find out where.
- 55:27Speaker 5: The cube was.
- 55:28Speaker 6: Well, I was thinking as we jumped forward to the,
- 55:33Speaker 6: is that why, because by the time we come along
- 55:37Speaker 6: in Avengers, the first one, they have the cube, they're
- 55:40Speaker 6: doing all this research with it, trying to create superheroes
- 55:43Speaker 6: to protect Earth with the Tesseract cube because now he
- 55:47Speaker 6: knows that's what The only other one he's seen, essentially,
- 55:51Speaker 6: at that point, by the time we get to bringing
- 55:54Speaker 6: back Captain America, but that's the only thing he's seen
- 55:57Speaker 6: that created some superhero, and now he has access to it,
- 56:01Speaker 6: so is that why they were taking it? Is that
- 56:04Speaker 6: some sort of weird.
- 56:05Speaker 5: S.H.I.E.L.D. plan was to try to create superheroes. But if
- 56:07Speaker 5: you go by the movies, they were just creating weapons
- 56:09Speaker 5: with it.
- 56:10Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 5: Because they were just creating guns and armors. But again,
- 56:12Speaker 5: that's not what he wanted to do.
- 56:14Speaker 6: So him being in charge, do you think that's originally
- 56:16Speaker 6: why he wanted.
- 56:17Speaker 5: At the time, he had a council that was like,
- 56:19Speaker 5: you know, keep making this stuff. Why he wanted to
- 56:21Speaker 5: bring it back. I just don't feel like the movie
- 56:23Speaker 5: needed it. Yeah. I think if the cube wouldn't have
- 56:25Speaker 5: been in it, It literally doesn't hurt anything in a
- 56:30Speaker 5: way because... It just overcomplicates everything.
- 56:32Speaker 11: Right.
- 56:32Speaker 5: Well, I mean, because even towards the end when the
- 56:35Speaker 5: fighting is going on and Cube's in a lunchbox and
- 56:38Speaker 5: not in a lunchbox and all that stuff, you could
- 56:40Speaker 5: have just made that fight about saving those refugees on
- 56:42Speaker 5: the ship. The Cube didn't have to be part of
- 56:45Speaker 5: that equation either. I just feel like if you step
- 56:47Speaker 5: back and look at the movie, the Cube didn't need
- 56:50Speaker 5: to be there for this movie to float exact same way.
- 56:54Speaker 5: But by putting it in there, as much as you
- 56:56Speaker 5: wanted to kind of like really, I don't want to
- 56:57Speaker 5: say force, but you really wanted this to feel like
- 57:00Speaker 5: it had a place in a timeline back over here.
- 57:03Speaker 5: I feel like you didn't have to try that hard.
- 57:06Speaker 5: I was okay with going, yeah, it's the 90s. I'm
- 57:08Speaker 5: cool with that. It reminded me a little bit of
- 57:10Speaker 5: Han Solo movie where it's like, let's give you all
- 57:13Speaker 5: these things that give them a nod to how it
- 57:15Speaker 5: ends up and show you that this is how it happened.
- 57:17Speaker 5: I'm like, man, I don't need it that heavy though.
- 57:19Speaker 5: Just kind of stick with her and develop her personality.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Don't go 90s, 90s, 90s. It felt a little bit
- 57:24Speaker 5: like Stranger Things. It took me out of it in
- 57:27Speaker 5: a sense that it was so heavy-handed that it just
- 57:30Speaker 5: felt like, oh, well, here's a 90s reference. Not, this
- 57:34Speaker 5: is a movie and that thing happened. These 90s things
- 57:37Speaker 5: would happen in a way that just felt like I
- 57:38Speaker 5: was getting hit on the head, like 90s. And I'm like,
- 57:41Speaker 5: I know, man, I know. Just go with the movie.
- 57:43Speaker 5: It's okay. You don't have to keep banging on me
- 57:46Speaker 5: that it's the 90s.
- 57:47Speaker 6: I didn't feel the Han Solo level of having to
- 57:51Speaker 6: connect everything until the very end. Like, I feel like
- 57:53Speaker 6: the whole rest of it was just like, here's the different,
- 57:56Speaker 6: because we also, I mean, it is an origin story
- 57:58Speaker 6: of her. It's also an origin story of how he
- 58:00Speaker 6: gets to be who he is, how he gets to
- 58:02Speaker 6: be in charge. So it's like, and how S.H.I.E.L.D. comes
- 58:05Speaker 6: together more or less. So it's like, all of that
- 58:07Speaker 6: was working fine. And then we got to that last
- 58:10Speaker 6: like 10 minute segment of like, okay, and here's the Tesseract. Oh,
- 58:14Speaker 6: and here's how it got to Earth. And here's how
- 58:15Speaker 6: he lost his eye. Oh yeah, and here's how we
- 58:17Speaker 6: named the Avengers.
- 58:18Speaker 5: And like, so it crammed them all into like a
- 58:20Speaker 5: 10 minute span of like, All right, you got them
- 58:23Speaker 5: all in. I get it.
- 58:24Speaker 6: I get it.
- 58:26Speaker 5: I was funny. We knew at some point we were
- 58:28Speaker 5: going to have to get that. That didn't work for me.
- 58:32Speaker 5: That really didn't work for me. I almost feel like
- 58:36Speaker 5: you have to go back and delete that scene from
- 58:39Speaker 5: Winter Soldier then. And I get that they even tried to.
- 58:42Speaker 5: He even says something... um because the whole winter soldier
- 58:46Speaker 5: thing is that when he's telling captain america you know
- 58:49Speaker 5: last time i trusted someone i lost an eye and
- 58:51Speaker 5: yes like five minutes before the cat does it he
- 58:54Speaker 5: says something like i trust you and i was like
- 58:57Speaker 5: okay i get that he literally said i trust you
- 59:01Speaker 5: five minutes before but one that was not it did
- 59:04Speaker 5: not seem like a brutal scratch it didn't even bleed
- 59:07Speaker 5: so i was like on one level you kind of
- 59:09Speaker 5: copped out for making it vicious if it was gonna
- 59:11Speaker 5: be vicious I get it why not when in the
- 59:13Speaker 5: hallway when it was it was doing its thing why
- 59:16Speaker 5: didn't one just kind of clip him like I would
- 59:19Speaker 5: have been it would have been accidental or whatever but
- 59:20Speaker 5: he would have trusted the cat I would have been
- 59:22Speaker 5: okay with that for it to be so blatant oh
- 59:25Speaker 5: you cute little guy and him just just do it
- 59:27Speaker 5: I was like what like that That's not just a cat.
- 59:31Speaker 5: It was a very serious moment with Captain America. It
- 59:34Speaker 5: wasn't one of the snarky moments. It was about overthrowing S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 59:37Speaker 5: The last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye. Really?
- 59:40Speaker 5: When you were playing with a cat?
- 59:41Speaker 1: It's all about allowing people to think things about him.
- 59:46Speaker 1: I'm just going to let you think that I am
- 59:48Speaker 1: the most supreme badass in the world.
- 59:51Speaker 5: That's the way it's kind of always been. Maybe that's
- 59:52Speaker 5: what I miss. Yeah, maybe after seeing him. Not that
- 59:55Speaker 5: he was dopey, but he wasn't. highly effective maybe that's
- 59:58Speaker 5: supposed to be the thing is nick fury's a con
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: man yeah you know it's more of he's kind of
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: well and then they went.
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: Over on because they did go into like again this
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: is just geeks on the internet already but like they
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: were talking about how much he's like level three nobody
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: in this movie and within a short span of time
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: by the time we get to like you know the
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: the first couple of movies there when he meets iron
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: man like He's already the supreme badass.
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: He's got Lauryn Hill as an assistant. How does he, like,
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: in charge?
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: In that short, you know, for that kind of move,
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: you know, jump that many levels in that span of time. So, yeah,
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: I mean, maybe so much of it is just, like,
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: creating his own mythos. Like, becoming the badass that S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: needs him to be, even if he's not.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: It sucks that some things didn't happen different. Because I
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: feel like Nick Fury is an enigma enough that you
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: could have, like, I don't want to say do a
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: solo movie on him, but if they would have pulled
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: the trigger on a Black Widow, Hawkeye movie and have
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Nick Fury be that tie-in and maybe... Because he references
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: some of the... He mentions Budapest.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: I don't even got that in the movie. At some
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: point when he was rattling off his experience, he says Budapest.
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: I'm like, there's the Hawkeye, Black Widow battle that they've
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: referenced like twice in other movies. You could do a
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: movie about the Budapest thing and show Nick Fury being
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: a little weirder or maybe... you know, build him up
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: and show like he is capable. Cause in the comics,
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: he's beast mode. In the comics, Nick Fury can go.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: The movies have, other than that huge car chase in,
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: was it Winter Soldier? Yeah, I think it's Winter Soldier.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: Other than the huge car chase in Winter Soldier, he's
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: just kind of been, you know, He gets through the battles,
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: but he doesn't really... He's just in charge and he's...
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: He's not the vanguard unit.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: Yeah, he's a badass in tone. But again, we don't
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: see him getting in fights a whole lot, which, granted,
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: may also tie into the fact that if you stop
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: and do the math.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: That guy's really old. I don't think about that. Man,
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: he looked great in this movie. That de-aging tech is bonkers.
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: I was going to say, how much CG was that?
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: But in general, I think that could be why maybe
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: he's not fighting as much Cause I don't do the math,
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: but like he's, he started as an older actor anyway,
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: compared to most, he wasn't a kid. So it's like,
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: by the time we get him in his full on,
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: cause I remember when they, when they redid shaft, I
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: was like, Oh yeah, it's a younger chef. And I,
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: it was like a 10 year span maybe from like
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: how old the original shaft was now modern day versus
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: how old he was modern day making that new movie.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: I was like, you didn't even really go younger. Like,
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: You just went with him because he's.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: Got a badass attitude.
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: Like, it totally works. But, yeah, so maybe he doesn't
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: need to be, like, fighting people and busting a hip
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: and shit. So that could be part of it. But
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: I do kind of like that it is sort of, like,
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: taking the wind out of these sails there of, like,
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: whatever horrible thing happened to him for, you know, a
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: decade now.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: We've been trying to decide, like, oh, man, what was it?
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: And, like, a cat scratched him.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: Like I said, I think if that scene, if that,
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: 10 seconds didn't exist in Winter Soldier, I think it
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: would have been easier to go, okay, that's kind of
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: ironic that that's what happened. But just having him in
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: a very serious moment say that, to me, it was underwhelming.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I want to rewatch that scene just so I can.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: It's very serious. He's at the desk. He stands up.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: Like I said, it's just before, I think, the elevator fight.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: It's that real serious part where they realize S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: It's our door. It wasn't like a jokey snippet moment,
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: snarky moment.
- 1:03:29Speaker 16: And so.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: It was just weird to be like.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: We also don't know what else happens with Goose.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: Who real quick in the comic is Chewie. In the comic,
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: it's Chewie, as in Chewbacca. She names the cat Chewie.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I get the Goose reference, and I'm cool with it,
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: but it just... It just seemed weird to me that Marvel,
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: who now owns Star Wars, wouldn't keep the Chewie reference.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: That's almost too much, maybe. I feel like they would
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: take so much heat.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: It would make people wonder if Star Wars is in
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: the Marvel Universe now. Even though it is in the comic,
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: everybody would not know.
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: That, and they would just badmouth it.
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I would think maybe as a kid. Maybe if
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: I was a kid, I'd be like, Chewie, wait. Is
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: Kylo Ren with Thanos? What's going on?
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: Yeah, Goose is pretty funny.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: The cat was fantastic it reminded me the first a
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: lot of stuff in this movie reminded me of Guardians
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: of the Galaxy but the cat reminded me of Rocket
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: a lot just it seemed like he was the cat
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: was played the same way as Rocket for just these
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: great visual when they first went into space and the
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: cat was just like floating around yeah and then like
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Nick kind of put his arm out and he just
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: kind of grabbed his arm there were moments like that
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: that I thought were really really cool and knowing again
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: having read the comic knowing at some point the tentacles
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: were coming out just waiting for it when it finally
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: happened it was I thought it was really, really cool.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: So how much does he... Again, like.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: How much thought is going on in this creature?
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: What, the cat?
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, is it a fully evolved, super intelligent creature?
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: Or is it just... It's kind of like... Have you
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: ever played D & D? He's kind of like a
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: bag of holding. He's literally another dimension on the inside.
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: And that's what that creature's like. He has a dimension
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: within him.
- 1:05:15Speaker 11: So.
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: But, I mean, mentally, is he, like, is he just that?
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: I don't remember him talking or anything like that, but
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: he's the kind of cat that knows what's going on. Like,
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: if conversations are going on in a room, the cat's like, yeah.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Like, that's why it didn't eat that krill. Like, it
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: was just like.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: But, I mean, that's why I'm like, as we come back,
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: is he going to be, like, in charge of stuff
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: with them? Is he making decisions? Like, or is he
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: just using a tool, essentially?
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Yeah, just an assistant.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Just observing.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:05:43Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: Where do we.
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: I don't even know where to begin either.
- 1:05:46Speaker 11: I know.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: It's like we've jumped around enough, but. I have mixed
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: feelings on the movie overall. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: it a lot.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: I enjoyed it a lot.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: I was underwhelmed, but I think.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: Anything after The Last Avengers is going to be underwhelming, really.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: So I think that there was a little bit of
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: another reason why I mentioned Jennifer Lawrence earlier is that
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: I felt like it reminded me of her in the
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: X-Men movies. Like after she got the award. Cause I
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: think she was in X-Men first class and then she
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: got the Oscar and then she did that other one.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: And I feel like, I feel like Brie, I feel
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: like she brought real world acting to a comic book movie.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: If that makes sense. I think that there is a
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: tonal difference to comic book movies where you have to
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: be a bit more, not cheesy, but you have to
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: come out of like, you know, the high fantasy, you know, it's, it,
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: Robert Downey Jr. is not earning an Oscar, but he's fantastic, right?
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: He nails it. And Chris Evans, they're not Oscar-worthy acting.
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: They can deliver jokes as that character, and yet when
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: things are serious, you totally buy that.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: So I don't know if it was by design, because
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: part of me wonders, okay, this is a prequel. And
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: when we see her, even with the stinger, you have
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: to realize that is like 15 years later. She's not
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: going to be the same person. So maybe this is...
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: this is all new to her. She's young. She's confused.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: And like, when we see her in the next Avengers movie,
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: she will have a solid, outgoing personality. But I felt,
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: in particular, I felt like she acted monotone. Like her voice,
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: the way she uses her voice, it was so, it's just,
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: there was no affliction much. And I always felt like
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: she's just kind of like, this is how this girl
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: would act in real life. Like, no, you got to
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: do it like in a comic book way. You have
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: to kind of be, I don't know. I don't know
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: how to describe it. It just felt like You know,
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: if she was having a conversation with Fury, Fury's voice
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: would go high and low and this and that. And
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: she was always just, you know, we're heroes from another planet.
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: I'm this. It was like, get into it. You know, like,
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: use your voice. And it just, it hit me that
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: I just don't think she acted the same way as
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: everyone else.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I don't know how to really know. Yeah, I have
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: two thoughts on that.
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: One.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I'm glad that you put words to what I was
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: thinking about her. She had subtlety to her acting and
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: that particular monotone that I couldn't place as you're acting
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: like a person and not a comic book character. Obviously,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: they try to make the comic book characters more realistic,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: but still a comic book character. There was also something
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: that I noted about the way that she talked and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: her deadpan humor and all of this stuff. I felt
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: that it tied back into how Like it, you know,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: they go over many times about how she felt really
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: insecure about being bullied, about being weak or like being
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: bullied about like, you know, being emotional or whatever. And
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: for a lot of women, they go into like the
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: coping mechanism is that deadpanness.
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: And like I'm.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Gonna have this super tough exterior I'm gonna be like
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: deadpan like whatever like that's like that's something that reminded
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: me because like I've experienced that as well just like
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: kind of this unemotional persona that you develop from.
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: It's a coping mechanism exactly it's a.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Coping mechanism for being attacked for being emotional yeah and
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: so that I was thinking I was thinking about that
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I was like she is different but then I was
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: also like But I also see this.
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: But you understand why she's doing it, right?
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and because they played on those themes a lot
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: during the movie, I was like, that's what it is. Like,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: because they were talking about that so much about, like, oh, you're,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: you know, you're too emotional. And then they had all
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: those flashbacks from her growing up. And I was like,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: that's why you're deadpan. Right. Like, I can see that
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: that's how you want to, you're putting on this persona
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: so that you'll be respected. And that's what, like. So
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: that's where I see that coming from.
- 1:09:48Speaker 8: That helps.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: Like to me, that helps a lot. I can completely
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: understand that. Because I also, I think, I think it's very, again,
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: it didn't, I don't want to make it sound like
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: it's a negative, but this movie is very clearly for girls.
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: Like there's just so many scenes that are straight up like.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: If you're a girl, you went through this. We're going
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: to show her go through it. Like the guy on
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: the bike that's like, give me a smile, sweetie. Stuff
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: like that, I'm like, I can't get that as a guy.
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: But I get that that's for girls who went through
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: that who's going, look, here's a girl going, fuck you.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: So much of the movie, it's like women empowerment themes
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: are subtle and just totally integrated in a seamless way.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: There are some moments like that that I felt were ham-fisted.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: But also then I was thinking, but it would be
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: more unrealistic if that didn't happen.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: She's beautiful.
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: As you were saying that, I'm like, but how many women.
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: A day deal with that shit? It reminded me of
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: a year or two ago when a girl was walking down.
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: She went down like five blocks of New York with
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: her phone on and got like, two dozen people like
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: cat calling her it was that kind of stuff it
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: was like this stuff doesn't happen when it does happen
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: that's what makes it so i would assume i'm obviously
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: not it doesn't happen to me but i assume that's
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: part of what makes it so frustrating it's like you
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: have to be so loud and boisterous about this shitty
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: act like you should be ashamed of this and you're
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: like totally cool doing this out in open in front
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: of other people so I kind of feel like if
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: that would have happened in a low-key way, it probably
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: wouldn't have felt very realistic. You would have been like, well.
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: You'd be like, what? If people low-key kind of insult you,
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: you'd be like, well, whatever.
- 1:11:17Speaker 8: Go on.
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: But when someone's loud and in your face about it,
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: it's like, really? You're okay with doing this out in
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: front of people?
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it just doesn't usually dedicate its own scene in
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: your own life. Like, you know, I walk down the
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: street like it always ends. always happens unless nick is
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: with me if nick's with me nothing so i'm like
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: i swear to god it happened so like so like
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: anytime i go i'd like that always happens but it's
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: it's like it doesn't it happens so much that it
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: doesn't warrant a scene in a movie like it's just
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: like it's just part of life like it's just.
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: Like but if you roll your eyes and move on
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: or whatever.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: Boiling down all of the things going on in dealing
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: with all of this you'd have to have it represented
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: to some.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Extent yeah exactly so i mean yeah even if it
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: is like his line was too overt like if if
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: they wanted to make it more realistic there were i
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: don't know the dialogue could have just been slightly different
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: i don't know i felt.
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: Like the cockpit line was pretty yeah not brutal but
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: i was like It's a real asshole thing to say
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: enough right there.
- 1:12:23Speaker 11: Like, Jesus.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Especially, like, in the military. Like, that shit's definitely going
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: to happen more.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: I was going to say, yeah. I mean, how many
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: times has that probably been said in the last 30
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: years that women have been attempting to fly? Yeah. So,
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: I'm sure that's not made up.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Yeah. But as far as, like, women empowerment in a movie,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I feel like it tackled it in a great way
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: where it's... This is her first movie, and every superhero's
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: first movie is about empowerment in some way. You have
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: these obstacles, you're overcoming them, and you're empowering yourself. And
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: the women empowerment in this movie was so integrated. It
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: just highlighted her unique obstacles without making it all about.
- 1:13:06Speaker 7: Her unique obstacles.
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a gimmick part of it.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a gimmick.
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: It's her journey because it's her journey.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: And I thought that part was great about it.
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: Plus, I think with her personality, we also have that
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: added level of she doesn't know who she is except
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: for six years or however long that window is. So
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: it's like she's also creating who she's supposed to be
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: from nothing.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Or being groomed to be who she's supposed to be.
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: Or being brainwashed or, yeah, all of these things. So, like, she, yeah,
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: it's not even a normal representation of who she would
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: be at that point. So by the end, I guess
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: it should be getting closer to who she used to
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: be probably.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: I think it is really cool that, and this isn't
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: far from just talking about the, I think having a
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: young female character there to look up to her is
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: also really cool. And that is a character from the comic. Again,
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: I didn't think, who became not only Captain Marvel, but
- 1:14:04Speaker 6: like a bunch of other superheroes. So like that character
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: can possibly even get worked in later on. But I
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: think just in general, having this young girl who's looking
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: up to her before she has superpowers, that like, she's
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: just a badass because she's flying a plane and she's
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: super cool.
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: And it's like, that was kind of cool anyway.
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: And then sort of revisiting that one. Oh, by the way,
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: now I'm one of the most powerful people in the universe.
- 1:14:27Speaker 7: So I don't know.
- 1:14:28Speaker 6: That was just kind of a cool little dynamic of,
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: cause like the mom's not all that instrumental or, But
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: the kid and, like, the relationship between her and the
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: kid is, like, really important.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: The mom's just kind of her friend and, like, she's there. But, like, yeah,
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: it was, to me, very noticeable how important that, like,
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: looking up to her was going on there.
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: I think she'll definitely be in the next Marvel solo movie.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: I think they're... Because, like you said... Rambo's daughter does
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: end up being a superhero in the comics. And I
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: think that in her next solo movie, whatever next phase,
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: I guarantee she'll still be around in some capacity. Even
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: by then, maybe even the same actress. By then, another five,
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: six years, she might be old enough to just straight
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: up be like, well, here you are. Get in costume.
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: It jumps.
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: So, because I think you were saying 15.
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: Isn't it like 25 years?
- 1:15:16Speaker 8: Oh, right.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: Yeah, if it goes to.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: Because if we're going to modern day, like, she's going
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: to be in, like, her 30s by the time she
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: gets back for Infinity Part 2.
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: Yeah, so, yeah, they would just... So, like, yeah, she
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: gets to go.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: I wonder if she would have, like, a middle-of-the-road movie for, like.
- 1:15:28Speaker 7: Her going.
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: Yeah, come back at early 2000s or something.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Like, going to the Kree. Like, interesting.
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: Man, that messed me up so much. The Skrulls are
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: the bad guys in the comics.
- 1:15:38Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: And for them to flip that in the movies, that.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Were the Kree the good guys in the movie?
- 1:15:44Speaker 11: No.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: They couldn't possibly.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: No, because they've been... No, they were the bad guys.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: They've been the bad guys. In the comic, the Skrulls
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: are the bad guys. Yeah. The Kree are good. But
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: in the movie... Yeah. The Skrulls were good, and the
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: Kree are bad.
- 1:15:55Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: And I was just like... But the Kree have.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: Been bad from, you know, Guardians, and, like, they've worked
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: them into S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: And all this other.
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: So, like.
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: I'm glad I watched S.H.I.E.L.D. They'd already established that, but...
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yeah.
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: But that's... It is interesting they do play that flip
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: even within the movie. Like, we so assume that these
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: are the bad guys. And, like, it's, you know.
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: It's just, it's very, and again, this is all stuff
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: that's out there. But, you know, the whole, there's a
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: whole huge art called Secret Invasion, which is the Skrulls,
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: you know, come to find out they've impersonated, like, a
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: lot of the Avengers and actual heroes. And they kind of, like,
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: you know, show their form and pretty much, like, you know,
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: take over everything overnight. It's like, that's out the window.
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: You just made these guys all good guys. That's a
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: fantastic story arc from the comics that, again, it was
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: almost like Ultron, but with even less of a payoff.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: It's like, now we can't do it at all. They're
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: good guys now. If the Skrulls are good guys.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Which is probably just a commentary that maybe what you
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: know to this point is all propaganda. It's one side
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: of the story.
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: Well, I think you could still do that, but instead
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: of it being an entire race of people, it's just
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: an offshoot group of people that are infiltrating.
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: Maybe that's what makes this to swerve. Because I think
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: as comic fans, once we hear Skrull, we're like, oh,
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: secret evasions happen eventually. So maybe that's their way of
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: trying to swerve us and go, no, they're good guys.
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: And then come to find out in the 10, 15
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: years since then that there's a bad faction. Maybe some
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: of them lived and resent her for something. I don't know.
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: Because we get that even with having, what's his name? Mendelsohn.
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: The bad guy from Guardians.
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: Oh, Ronan.
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: Yeah, Ronan.
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: Ronan the accuser.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: Once Ronan's there, it's like we have, because even that
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: I think I hadn't, dug deep enough to figure out
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: all the weird inter-political goings. Because at that point in
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: Captain Marvel, he's still, like, not a bad guy to
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: his own people. Because then he turns.
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: I don't think he's snapped yet. Yeah, he turns by
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: the time we get to Guardians. It's just like genocide, genocide, genocide.
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: You know, and it's something like that. But yeah, it was...
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: That was weird to me. And again, you know, for
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: better or worse, it's just my opinion, but it didn't
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: It didn't do anything for me in a movie. It
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: wasn't like when they did that switch, it was like, oh, wow,
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: that's neat. It just straight up confused me.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: I was like, wait.
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: So I got to like flip my entire brain now
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: and go, wait, okay, so now Skrulls are good and
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: Kree are bad. I got to reprogram. I get those
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: guys mixed up anyway, but now I'm like, okay, Skrull's good.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: Skrull's good.
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: Skrull's good.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: You know, I'm kind of doing that like remember the
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: Skrulls are good because if not, I'm going to get
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: lost in this movie. And since I had a predetermined
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: good and bad, it messed with me a bit where
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: I'm like, you know, yeah, kill that. Oh, no, don't
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: kill that guy. Kill that guy. You know, and it
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: messed with me a bit. So did you guys generally
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: like it?
- 1:18:48Speaker 8: Like good?
- 1:18:49Speaker 11: Bad?
- 1:18:49Speaker 7: I had a lot of fun.
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: Again, I don't think I had, that first time through,
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: I don't think I had any of the major issues
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: and it's only afterward kind of digging in. So I
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: think at first pass, and I think for people who
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: are just casual Marvel fans, definitely not even invested in
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: the comics, I don't think you're going to have a
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: lot of these problems. I think it works really well
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: as just sort of a, cause it does feel like it's,
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: it doesn't ever feel as heavy as some of the others.
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: So it's for as serious as some of the, you know,
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: stuff can be or will be, or yeah. I mean,
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: it still feels pretty fun.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: Well, even looking at it on paper, not much happens.
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's just skirmish here. You kind of get that,
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: that house scene from Ultron. It's like, let's hang out
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: here and talk and converse for a while and then
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: go do this thing. And it's not, They don't necessarily
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: happen in exciting locations. They don't necessarily have like... We
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: go to Blockbuster? What do you want? Like I said,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: it's basically, it's pretty low key. It's pretty.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: Again, it's mostly focused on the origin story because there
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: isn't much else that happens. Like the only other things
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: that happen are like the side stories.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: Shield yeah yeah pegasus and yeah yeah.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: That that stuff that we work in but i mean
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: other than that like.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: It's all built on building lore because the entire movie
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: is about you getting the reveal of her origin story
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: which you get most of just the memory thing you're
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: like okay so yeah she was on earth she was
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: in this pilot like she was with the lawson and
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: all that and so but then you have to wait
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: the whole movie to get the the final piece of
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: it And yeah, it's like the whole movie, that's what
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: it's about. It's about setting up all of the other
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: lore surrounding it.
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: More or less.
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: Because she is kind of the first Avenger. Not really time-wise,
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: but like one and a half. Like she does sort
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: of jump in and create the Avengers. I guess he
- 1:20:44Speaker 6: would still be frozen. He was still frozen, yeah. He's
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: still there.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: He's still the first super-powered person, essentially, in the timeline.
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: But yeah, it doesn't quite... I don't know.
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: It's a weird little switch there of changing up the
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: formation of it all. Ho, ho.
- 1:21:02Speaker 8: You want to get personal.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Where were you born?
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: Huntsville, Alabama, but technically I don't remember that part.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Name your first pet. Mr.
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: Snoopers.
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: Mr.
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: Snoopers.
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: That's what I said. Did I pass?
- 1:21:11Speaker 15: Not yet.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: First job?
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: Soldier. Straight out of high school. Left the ranks a
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: full-bird colonel.
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: Then?
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: Spy.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Where?
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: It was a Cold War. We were everywhere. Belfast, Bucharest, Belgrade, Budapest.
- 1:21:22Speaker 8: I liked the bees.
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: I could make them run.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:21:25Speaker 16: I've been writing a desk for the past six years
- 1:21:26Speaker 16: trying to figure out where our future enemies are coming from.
- 1:21:29Speaker 8: Never occurred to me they would be coming from above.
- 1:21:32Speaker 15: Name a detail so bizarre a scroll could never fabricate it.
- 1:21:35Speaker 8: A toast is cut diagonally. I can't eat it. You
- 1:21:43Speaker 8: didn't need that, did you?
- 1:21:45Speaker 12: No.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: No, I didn't.
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: But I enjoyed it. Just the basic mechanics of it.
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: Because I think the rest of it just plays out
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: as most of it. Because we don't even have like
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: a true big villain. We've got a fake-out villain, and
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: then we've got Jude, but Jude's just kind of... Again,
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: by the end, he doesn't even get a big heroic
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: villain end. It's more of a teaser of maybe he'll
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: be back later, or we're setting it up for maybe
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: we'll get an older version of him down the line
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: that's still pissed off about everything.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: My wish was that Jude Law had been played by
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: his character, Atlas, had been played by Michael Fassbender. Not
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: just so that I could look at Michael Fassbender, but
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: because Jude Law is inherently squirmy and slimy in everything
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: that he plays, and so I feel like I would
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: have been, if it were Michael Fassbender, I would have
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: been more attached to him and felt more betrayal for
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: what he does. But yeah, with Jude Law, it's just like, well, yeah, duh.
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: Of course, they're up to something. Look how weird he seems.
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: Look at you.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: Which I think Jude Law's good, but yeah, it's very
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: easy for it, especially as time's gone on. It's one
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: of those, I think I've said this with a few
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: actors over the years, it's like when they're younger, I
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: think they would get more of the hero roles, but
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: as they age into their performances, now it's like, well,
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: obviously you're going to be the bad guy. It's much
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: easier to start accepting them as always being either the
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: bad guy or up to something or playing the heroes
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: for what. So I don't know, it is one of
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: those I think his role has kind of literally changed
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: as he's aged into his career.
- 1:23:27Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: But even, I can see, I feel like that's almost
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: too similar to our Magneto turn.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: You know, because he already is like, he's our hero
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: in the first class, more or less.
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: And even every time back, you're like, but no, he's
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: still kind of on our side, right?
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: So I think, yeah, trying to cast him in that
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: role of like, he's your friend, right? Oh, no, he's
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: a bad guy.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: But you'd lost Dumbledore now, too.
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: Oh, that's true.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: He's the goodest of good. I feel nothing about that.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: I feel nothing.
- 1:23:57Speaker 8: Got you.
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: Just wait till the beard. When that beard fully kicks in,
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: then you'll feel something. He's just kind of at the
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: halfway point.
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: No, he'll definitely be back, because Atlas is one of
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: her running rivals. That's what, yeah. I mean, I feel
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: like they- He'll be back in future form. Again, her
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: solo movie, he'll be the guy that's really her thorn
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: in the side. I did like the Indiana Jones reference, though.
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: Or I thought it was an Indiana Jones. When he's
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: taunting her, like, come on, put the energy up, fist
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: to fist. She's like, uh-uh. I'm just blasting him.
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: That was definitely the Raiders moment.
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: I'm not going to a whip fight with you. I
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: got a gun. I'm just going to shoot you. So
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: I dug that it showed her going, fuck you. I'm
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: not falling for that shit anymore. Like, no, I'm not
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: going to fight you fist to fist. And it felt, again,
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: it felt like that was... Again, I'm a boy, so
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: I can't really say, but it felt like that was
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: a statement of the guy going, fight like a boy.
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: Come on. And they're going, no, I don't have to.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Fuck you.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: I got this power. I'm going to use this power.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: He was like gatekeeping being strong. He was like, all right,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: if you can beat me fist to fist, then you'll
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: actually beat me. And she's like, no, I have nothing
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: to prove to you.
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: And I have my own better way to deal with
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: this problem, and I don't have to do it your way.
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: So, yep.
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: So i mean we referenced one of them earlier i
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: do like some of the music choices mostly one in
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: particular but it is like it is very obvious though
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: you know because the 90s did have a good uh
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: you know female fronted rock bands so like we had
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: garbage and we had hole but but during the fight
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: scene when just a girl kicks in i'm like damn
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: all right that one that one you can't do without
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: like i think that was a nice.
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: That was a moment where it really felt like guardians
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: of the galaxy to me it did but i mean
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: music i was just like all right we're in silly
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: space again but that's also that's in silly space that's
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: one of the ones i'm like but that's just for
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: the audience like she didn't hit the cassette player and
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: then start fighting like it is just for it's one
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: of the many like most of.
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: The other ones Or just for the audience. You're just like,
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: I don't think she's hearing garbage. We just look out.
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: And we get to hear it. This movie, yeah, it
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: was very, very much like Black Panther. And it's like,
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: while it was a good movie, it does not hide.
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: It has some things to say about society. It was
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: one of those moments where it was like, society, here's
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: us saying something here. But it was good. It didn't
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: offend me. It just, for some reason, tonally, I felt
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: like it was in Guardians of the Galaxy while that
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: was happening. I guess just because... There's been so many
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: soundtrack fights in space.
- 1:26:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, it is a thing.
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: It felt like... Which, again, it's not a bad thing.
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: They've kind of established that space is a little bit loose. So,
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: you know, she got up there and got loose.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Didn't care for her space helmets.
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: You didn't like the Mohawk stuff? I've never not.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: The Mohawk was fine, but it was just like a
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: weird design. I don't know.
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Ever since they've released that version of her, I'm just like...
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: You can't cover her hair. Seriously, I mean, to be
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: the dorky guy that I am, the whole movie, I'm like,
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: good lord, her hair is gorgeous.
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: It's so bouncy and beautiful. Like, no wonder you can
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: kick people's ass. They're mesmerized by your hair. Samson. So, yeah.
- 1:27:05Speaker 6: And that's part of it, but it does look kind
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: of dorky.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: But there was like another one.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: There wasn't just the mohawk one. There was like another
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: one as well, I thought.
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: Luckily, I think they realized that to the extent of
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: like they didn't put it on her very much like
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: because she does wear it at the very beginning with
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: the spaceship so i guess maybe that was a different
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: version but like.
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: It was underwater and in space and it's like the
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: way the helmet closes it's like it leaves a slit
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: for all her hair to go in the comic she
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: straight up has a mohawk yeah i think it's at
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: least the size are really short and it's it's up
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: so they're trying to kind of look like her current
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: version in a comic but I just, yeah.
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: I don't like that. Because even then they're selling shirts
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: and it's like her with the helmet. And I'm like,
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: I don't want that.
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: Well, and it's already different. Like in the Stinger, her
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: outfit's already different. Because again, 15 years later. Yeah. Like
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: if you look, there's a different gold trim going on.
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: Her outfit that when they turn and she's there all
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: of a sudden, like that was a different outfit. Same hair.
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: It was a different outfit. Thank God her hair looks good.
- 1:28:06Speaker 6: But I think it's that same. It's part that, but
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: I think it's also that same thing of like, We
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: also realize these are our stars. There's a reason Iron
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: Man takes his mask off all the damn time. There's
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: a reason Captain America only during battle puts it on
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: because I'm like, you don't cover up that face?
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: Look at me! I think it's all of those same things.
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: Number one, these people are all pretty.
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: Number two, these are our money makers. These are also
- 1:28:31Speaker 6: the ones we paid a fortune. Why would we pay
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: Robert Downey Jr. when we could CG the suit all
- 1:28:36Speaker 6: day long?
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: He doesn't have to be there.
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: That's how around that is the in the helmet shots
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: was like they started with that you should be showing
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: it outside i feel like they started with that in
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: that first one there was tons of in the helmet
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: shots to make sure no no we get our money's
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: worth but now i think like these last three movies
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: are more with him Half of the movie, he's in
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: the suit, but the helmet, you know, it just closes
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: itself down.
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: That might be his choice a bit. Maybe he's getting older.
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: He's like, I'll do voiceovers, but I don't want to
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: necessarily run around and do all this stuff. Yeah, just
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: give me a suit with no head, I'll do the voiceovers.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: You can CG the rest.
- 1:29:07Speaker 12: It's cool.
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: So, yeah, I think that's part of it, too, is
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: a very practical use of your stars in these faces. So,
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: same thing with that.
- 1:29:17Speaker 5: I think it looks kind of dorky, and you don't
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: cover up the face.
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: So, it's bold.
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: I will say that the humor didn't land for me.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: I didn't laugh out loud. Like just her stuff? No,
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: the whole movie. I'm not knocking anyone person. I think script-wise,
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: and again, I don't want to say that this makes
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: it a bad movie, but obviously Marvel has become cliched
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: for its snarky comments. Definitely. That's what DC, if you're
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: on that whole this side, that side, that's what DC
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: people will say they don't like about the Marvel stuff,
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: is it's snarky and clever. And it's like, this... none
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: of those landed. Like to the point where I thought some,
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: I thought some of Nick Fury's are actually bad. There
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: was some times where he made some, some jokes turn
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: him like, and to the point where the opposite, there's
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: some scene in the car where they laugh. He says
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: something to her and they both have a hearty laugh.
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: And I was like, that joke didn't land for me.
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: So that hearty laugh felt really forced. Like the humor wasn't,
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: wasn't clicking. I'm not saying they didn't have chemistry. See,
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: that's what I was going to say. I don't think
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: the skip gave them the chemistry. But again, origin movie.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: That's why in my head I'm like, okay, maybe 10,
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: 15 years, timeline-wise, when she shows up and we see
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: her in Avengers stuff, she should be a completely different personality.
- 1:30:32Speaker 5: She should be full-on confident AF. If this was her
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: origin and she's running around freeing civilizations, she should come
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: back just like, badass so.
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: You know but i was gonna say i don't i
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: yeah i mean i don't think there's any super killer
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: like comedy bits back and forth.
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: The cat made me dialogue giggle and smile dialogue.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Wise the scrolls lines are funnier oh.
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: Him got better stuff him sucking on the the shake
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: when they first got to that i'm assuming it's a
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: pulp fiction riff was that supposed to be uh jules
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: when he was like eating the kahuna burger and drink
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: i felt like that was a an an samuel l
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: kind of yeah easter egg there because he's just out
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: of nowhere just sucking on that drink when they first
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: come in in the blazer i was like what in
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: the world is going on did i break your concentration
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: like i said i there were moments that made me
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: smile but um nothing nothing got a physical chest chuckle
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: you know what i mean it was like i i
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: smiled like you know yeah that was clever.
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: Definitely get from both of the, you know, Joss movies,
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: but even, like, even a lot of what was going
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: on in Infinity Wars, I think, was genuinely funny moments.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: Oh, man. Iron Snark. Iron Snark. Tony Stark calling old
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: dude Squidward. Stuff like that just, I mean, I, I,
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: there's some solid stuff in there. And this one, like,
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: like I said, this was like, you know, like, if
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: you're watching a sitcom you enjoy, it was like that.
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: It was like, you know, they said a funny thing
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: and you kind of, in your head, go, that was,
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: clever but I never like like comedy movie laughed out
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: loud for any of the jokes in this I was
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: like I feel like it was trying to do a
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: buddy cop with the two of them that's what I
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: was about to say and I never I never laughed
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: out loud for the two of them but.
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: I feel like I was buying sort of the camaraderie
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: there like I did like them hanging out together and
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: like I feel like I would like more of that
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: which it's kind of impossible to do in this timeline
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: but like I guess moving forward you could have the
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: older versions of them sort of hanging out and her
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: being part of the team, assuming... Well, that has to.
- 1:32:41Speaker 8: Happen, right?
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: Because we just talked about the Spider-Man trailer.
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: Yeah, but I'm saying, assuming Fury, you know, is still
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: running the thing, if this dynamic is still out there, like,
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: maybe somewhere down the line we get a little more relaxed,
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: hanging out kind of a thing between her and anybody
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: else in the team. But yeah, so we're definitely going
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: to have to get to that point. At least in
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: the action end of it. But I think, again, I like.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: I look forward to seeing him again.
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: I think the movie did do that enough where it's like, well,
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: I want to see what Present time, Carol Danvers and
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: Nick Fury do when they see each other again after
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: 15 years. That should be- 25. That should be a
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: lot of fun.
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: I think Coulson's going to be jealous of their chemistry.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: I wanted Coulson to be a for real Skrull in
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: the worst way. When they started the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show,
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: back then, if you go back then- That just pissed
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: me off at the time. Back then, they had a
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: movie thing charted out. This is way back. And the
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: movies charted out had an Inhumans movie eventually, and it
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: had a Captain Marvel movie like before or after that
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: for like 2020 or something. And so when the S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: show started, I'm like, oh, this is how you're going
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: to introduce Skrulls. This is going to be great. And
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: I think they did a bit because I didn't watch
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: after season one, but I think they did that. And
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: I always thought that would help explain Coulson dying in
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: that first movie. But being around him, I'm like, right,
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: isn't that the obvious thing? This new Coulson is a Skrull, right?
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: And just part of me is like, the fact that
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: not only is that wrong, but scrolls are good now too.
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: I'm just like, my head just explode. I'm like, I don't, man,
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on now.
- 1:34:14Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: The Colson thing just annoyed me.
- 1:34:15Speaker 7: At the time.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Cause I've seen all, I'm caught up on agents of shield. Um,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: Apparently they've said, like I said, I only watched like
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: season one.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: The third season is all about this like alternate timeline
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: of Kree dominance and destroying the earth.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: It's wild.
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: Um, Well, that's weird. That sounds like, yeah, they still
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: flipped it over to Kree.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the Kree. So the end of season three, I
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: think is like they finally get out of the alternate
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: timeline and then it's like in the lead up to
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Infinity War. I think that's like where we left off
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: on there. But yeah, it's like this alternate timeline where
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: like the Kree had come to like, And they've enslaved
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: all the humans. The Earth is completely broken.
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: Sounds like Secret Invasion, but with a different buildup.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:11Speaker 5: I was like, oh, the Kree did it. It's going
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: to be a little weird when they start doing Fantastic Four.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: I think it can be weird for the Fantastic Four stuff, too,
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: because Skrull are one of their main baddies. So now
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: are they going to be fighting the Kree?
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: They can be good and bad. There might be Skrull
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: that are bad.
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: I mean, to me, that would be more realistic.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's a freaking.
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: Well, yeah.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: The humans?
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Like, what are you going to do about.
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: They're a big mess. Hydra?
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: That's humans?
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I guess, you know, it is.
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: That's more like Star Wars universe, that everyone... Everyone of
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: this race is a bounty hunter.
- 1:35:47Speaker 5: Right, that's what I was just going to say.
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: Everyone on this planet has a snowball fight because the
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: entire planet's snowy.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: Like, it's all absolutes.
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: In the Star Wars universe.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: It's a generalization. If you come from this planet, this
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: is what you are.
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: Sorry, you're a dirt farmer. But there's a city right
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: over there.
- 1:36:01Speaker 14: Nope.
- 1:36:02Speaker 8: You're a dirt farmer.
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: Shut up and get out there in the field.
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: So, yeah, they've gotten really bad about that as years
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: went on. I am curious if they'll pull it. This
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: is looking past these movies for a moment. Now that
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: they have the right stacks, man. You know, again, not spoiler.
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: This is like 30 years ago, 40 years ago in comics.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Rogue gets her powers back. from absorbing one of the Marvels,
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: you know, whether it be Mar-Vell, Ms. Marvel, like in
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: the comics, it's one of the iterations of Marvel that she,
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: she doesn't think where she grabs her so long, she
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: fully takes the power. And that's why in the comics,
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: Rogue can fly and is super strong because she literally
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: almost kills her absorbing the power. I'm curious if they're
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: going to pull the trigger on that. Like you do
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: this next phase with her, but then when they bring
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: the X-Men in, if they'll use her, If they would
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: be willing to sacrifice her character for Rogue's push into X-Men.
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: Because it's on the table. It's something they can obviously
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: do now. But I'm curious if they'll go that route
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: and do Rogue's origin that true to the comic. Because
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: in the comic, Rogue is bad at first. She's kind
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: of cool with Magneto for a bit. And I think
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: that's the thing that flips her when she... It's been
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: so long. But I think it's after that when she's like, wait,
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: I'm fucked up. I've got to stop doing this. But
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: it's also how she gets her abilities.
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: Are they following through with this current movie version of everything?
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: My understanding is that everything coming out right now is
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: still not canon at all.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: See, that's what I thought last time we talked about
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: that movie. The third one in that series was like, okay,
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: they're just going to cap this off, and now it
- 1:37:45Speaker 6: seems like they're going to go ahead and do.
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: Because the deal was still in talks, so we were like,
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: surely you're not going to do the Stark Phoenix movie,
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: and they are. That's why I said I'm surprised that
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: Disney is letting it release, because I'm pretty sure they
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: could shelve it, or at least just put it straight
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: to DVD. I think they could clamp it, and it's like,
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: i don't know i mean if there's people out there
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: enjoy it good you know release it and let them
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: have it but i just feel like in the long.
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: Term there's good moments well definitely even the last one
- 1:38:14Speaker 6: like i love the second movie and i still think
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: first class is great so it's like it's not until
- 1:38:19Speaker 6: the third one that there was tons and tons of
- 1:38:21Speaker 6: problems so yeah i don't know but i do wonder
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: if if you start cause it's already like the Marvel
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: end of it is already so huge. Like looking at
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: that cast in the last Avengers movie, like when you throw,
- 1:38:36Speaker 6: if you're going to take in, cause the, the X-Men, uh.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: Is just such a huge amount of people. It's massive.
- 1:38:43Speaker 6: And then if you throw in Fantastic Four and whatever else,
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: I'm like, is there a point where there's just too much?
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: I think they need to be in different genres. I
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: think X-Men maybe would make more sense as a TV
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: show if you do a dedicated TV show with a budget.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: No offense to S.H.I.E.L.D., but don't give me S.H.I.E.L.D. Give
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: me something where the heroes are on there every day,
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: every episode.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: I struggled through season two of shield.
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: I really like the gifted i love legion i love
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: legion i would have oh my gosh boo you have
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: to watch legion i've been saying this forever i would
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: take legion as the origin story like it's so good
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: if you and apparently spoiler legion is professor x's son
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: And he's been cast for their last and third season
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: coming up. I would have no problem with that man
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: being who plays Professor X in the future movies and
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: going Legion is lightly a prequel because it's so good.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: It is so stylish. It is so smart. The budget
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: is right on. Nothing ever looks cheap. There is a
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: psychic battle that is so fantastic. Fantastic. In one of
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: these episodes. It's so good. I cannot hype Legion enough.
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: And I would love for them to canonize that somehow
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: in the future and be like, okay, all that other
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: Marvel stuff, that was Sony. But this, this is Marvel going,
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: my point though, X-Men on TV can't work because I
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: completely love Legion. And if it had the entire Marvel
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: universe going on instead of just focusing on him, I
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: would watch that weekly.
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: So, and then, you know, for the big events, you
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: do an X-Men movie. You can almost keep them a
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: little bit separate, like X-Men on TV, still do Marvel
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: in the theater. But every now and then, you know,
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: you do that crossover movie where they all, if they
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: have to.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm wondering if there's going to be a crossover event,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: like with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the movies, because it's like.
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: They kept acting like they were going to keep those separate.
- 1:40:47Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: But they haven't.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: But then they keep hinting at each other. And it's
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: just like the Kree are so, like, that's a huge
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: part of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., In season three, I'm like, is.
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: It going to happen? You guys brought it up. Why
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: did you bring it up if you're not going.
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: To do it?
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: Imagine if they had been dropping Captain Marvel hints in S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: all this time. Like, imagine if her logo was somewhere
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: in someone's office or something. Like, they could have been
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: slowly dropping stuff for her all this time, too, with
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: that show. It just seemed like that show didn't have
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: a payoff to the bigger picture.
- 1:41:16Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: Which I feel like they wanted at the beginning. And
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: then they immediately got into like, no, no, we're going
- 1:41:21Speaker 6: to do it separate.
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: It's not really going to tie in. But is it
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: Coulson could carry a show though? Like you from day
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: one should have known. They hinted at the Inhumans sometimes too.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: And I was like, okay, as comic fans, you're hinting
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: at things that I would watch for, but you're not committing. Yeah.
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: So just hearing a name doesn't make the whole half
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: hour or hour, however long the episodes are, entertaining.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: And Coulson does carry that show. I don't like... like
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: a ton of the other characters.
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: I didn't like the supporting cast very much at all.
- 1:41:49Speaker 11: I was.
- 1:41:51Speaker 7: I never got.
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: Again, I watched one or two when it first started
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: and I was just like, I'm not interested enough to
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: commit to this every... Again, there's so little that I
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: can watch on a regular basis and keep up with show-wise.
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: There's a handful and that's at best and they're mostly
- 1:42:07Speaker 6: just on the CW at this point.
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: It's ironic. I was going to say, I was just
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: going to say it's ironic because... You know, as big
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: as Marvel is, you know, you got Defenders on Netflix.
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: You got a show, S.H.I.E.L.D. on TV. You got your
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: owning theaters. Yet somehow CW does better crossovers than you do.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: Anytime CW does crossovers, even if I'm not watching any
- 1:42:28Speaker 5: of those shows anymore, I'll watch the crossovers.
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: It's pretty epic.
- 1:42:31Speaker 8: Because those moments.
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: When all those things come together, it feels so epic.
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: And it's like, Marvel, you are dropping the ball. You
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: could be doing badass crossovers. The fact that the Defenders
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: didn't show up anywhere, as much as I have mixed
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: feelings towards the end of that, but at least Daredevil.
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: My God, if Daredevil doesn't have a moment with Spider-Man,
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: I am lynching. I want Daredevil in a Spider-Man movie.
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: I thought they canceled that one too. I firmly believe
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: they will all come right back around when Disney starts
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: up their streaming service. This is them. They're ending their
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: contract with Netflix. Get them off of Netflix. Probably, you're right.
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: Once Disney has streaming, I'm telling you, all these guys
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: are going to either get new shows or get integrated
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: into the next phase. I think Daredevil needs to be
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: with Spider-Man. I think Kingpin needs to be in the
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: Spider-Man universe in the worst way.
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: I mean, that was a great tie over into the
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: animated Kingpin. What a fantastic villain. It was the most
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: comic book-y version, but I'm just like, he fits in
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: perfectly with the Spider-Man world and the Daredevil world.
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: And like, yeah, so... Like, if all of this was
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: about Thanos, your next gen needs to be Kingpin and Doom.
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: One or both of those guys need to be your big,
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: overarching big baddies in the next Uber phase. See, that's
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: the thing. However you break that down.
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: This has been such a huge journey. Like, can you
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: even do anything like that again?
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: Or did they go the other way? And they're just like,
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: we're going to break off, we're going to do a
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: bunch of.
- 1:43:59Speaker 6: Solo movies and keep it that way and maybe do
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: some crossover stuff, but not another huge cast.
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: I think the philosophy could work in a sense that
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: if you just have someone as a puppet master role,
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: like maybe the movie is about something else, but it's established.
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Kingpin sent that guy and you know, it's about this,
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: but doom set it up to where eventually they're like, Oh,
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: it's Kingpin and doom that are really behind this. And
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: you know, so it eventually leads to them getting to
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: the root of the problem. I still think, without being regurgitated.
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: They can still have that overarching batty, which is how
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: comics are though. You know, it's like, that's why you
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: have B and C tier villains. They're just people that
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: got to get beat up on a regular basis. And
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: then there's the guy we got to get to. So
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: I think they can still do that. Again, I'm blanking out.
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: The guy that played Kingpin is so awesome in that role.
- 1:44:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:44:48Speaker 5: Just with 5, 10, 15 minutes of him in movies
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: is like the, yeah, I'm doing this. It's fine if
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: I know there's going to be a whole movie eventually where,
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: And I like the middle phase there where they just
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: started crossing over and it was a normal thing. Like,
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: I mean- Black Widow is essentially a co-lead in Winter Soldier. Like,
- 1:45:07Speaker 6: she's there the whole time.
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: They're working to get, like, it really is, like.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: Such a well-balanced story with.
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: All these characters. But it doesn't work in everybody.
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: So I do like that we take, like, a few
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: of them and put together this cool side movie.
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: And, like, that can be its own thing. And, like,
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: I hope they do. Once we get past this, you know,
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: get the Thanos thing out of the way.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: We get back to Spider-Man doing his own thing, but
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: then maybe start doing crossovers.
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: They are doing that anyway. There's already Iron Man in Spider-Man.
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: I'm okay with that and not having to take it
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: to that epic level where you have to bring in
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: a cast of 50 to put together this story. It's like,
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: we've done that now, so do you think the novelty
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: will be off now and now we can just move
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: on and not try to do that again? Can you
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: even top how much time and effort they've invested in
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: this one story idea?
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: I know that personally, I don't want to just have
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: doom in one movie and I don't want to have
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: Kingpin in one movie like Ultron. Yeah. I, to me,
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: those guys are big enough that I want them in two, three,
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: four movies, or just knowing, like I said, that they're
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: like a puppet master in a bigger picture. I think if,
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: if either of those guys just happened in one movie,
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: it would be a huge waste of huge villains. I mean,
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: there is a point as many characters as there are
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: in the Marvel and well, not DC, I guess in
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: this case, but in the Marvel universe, you still have like,
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: you know, those five, six kind of baddies that stand
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: up above everybody else. And Doom and Kingpin are those
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: kind of guys. And I hope Ultron was, and I
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: just hope they don't squander too many bad guys or
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: you're going to get stuck in a spot where you're like,
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: you're going to start pushing B tier villains. If you
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: don't keep, you know, your Omega villains, Omega.
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: So what did we get out of Captain Marvel that we're,
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: as we're going into, because we're not far away from
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: part two. So, We know it's the most direct tie-in,
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: even though it jumps back in time.
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: So, I don't know.
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: Where do we.
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: What have we taken from this movie that's leading us
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: into the next one? I think it's... I was really
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: surprised how much this didn't do much for the next movie. Like,
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: in regards to... I mean, in a way, I like that.
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: Like, again, I didn't want them to tie everything together
- 1:47:18Speaker 6: every second.
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: So, like, they did pretty.
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: Good most of the way. Then they did that whole
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: bunch of Avenger stuff right there at the end. But then, like, yeah,
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: I was like, by the end, it's like, other than
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: the stinger, like, we don't really get any direct, you know,
- 1:47:31Speaker 6: other than, you know, okay, we've worked in the bad guys.
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: We worked in the Tesseract. We worked in, like, all
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: of these other minor things. But nothing was a direct
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: line that's just like, obviously, this is going to be
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: part of, like, I do like that this was almost
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: its own, for as tied as it is, its own
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: weird little story. It just kind of focuses on the
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: origin stories. And then that's it. And it kind of
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: picks up right where we left off almost. Almost exactly.
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: The stinger, they're still counting the dead.
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: That's got to be in the movie.
- 1:48:02Speaker 6: That's got to be.
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: That's the kind of stinger that was like, let's take
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: this two minutes out of the movie. I mean, like the.
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: Scene with Thor and Doctor Strange was straight up. Or
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: like the one when he was in the vice. yeah
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: those are straight out of the movie which this has
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: to be yeah.
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: I mean the cat one was obviously but it's.
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: Got to be but it's got to be pretty quick
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: right after because they're still tolling the dead you know
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: so it's like still feel like.
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: Everything in those trailers is probably the first half an
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: hour to movie i feel like anything that we've seen
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: of endgame is is like the first third of the
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: movie at the most probably i haven't really watched for
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: most i saw that very first one and that one's
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: just dark and summer which it needs to be but
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: like it's so much of iron man by himself and
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: like everybody's just sort of like dealing with what just
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: happened and that's kind of where they leave it and
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: i'm like yeah that's kind of where we all are
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: so it will be interesting as as sad as the
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: first movie was i don't i don't think people quite
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: realize how this is going to be People are going
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: to officially die in this one, I think. I think
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: everyone dusted in that other movie. Because if you look
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: at it outside of the movie universe, those were all
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: the side movies. All the core Avengers lived. Yeah. You
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: know those side movies are still coming. We've even seen
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: a trailer for Spider-Man already. So it's like, of course
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: Black Panther's not dead. Of course Spider-Man's not dead. But
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: I do see Stark and Captain America at least... passing
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: a torch in this one and and dying or going
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: away in some permanent way i think thor yeah which.
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: I've been saying for like i thought that's where they
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: were going in the first avengers they really set up tony.
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: Stark yeah martyring himself to save the planet and i'm
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: like why didn't pretty cool captain marvel in the first
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: movie that's such a huge like why wouldn't he he
- 1:49:53Speaker 5: should he would have pushed that pager In the first
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: Avengers movie. There's no way he would not have paged her.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: It's just like, yeah, a hole opened up in the
- 1:50:02Speaker 6: sky and aliens came.
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: To take over the planet. Was that not an emergency?
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: Did she say, only if it's an emergency? Like, was
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: that not an emergency? You didn't call her for the
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: space invasion?
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: I guess only if it's confirmed that it's like this.
- 1:50:16Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: Oh, the world is ending.
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: And other people were like, well, that was mostly just
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: New York. Now, granted, why would they have stopped there?
- 1:50:24Speaker 6: But they're like, it wasn't a global thing. It was just,
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: they're busting up this city. Tough luck. You guys deal
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: with it. She's got other stuff to do. So yeah,
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: I've heard that the other, you know, geek ramblings going
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: on now is like, how many times do you think
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: he's done it? And she just didn't, she already had
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: stuff going. This is like the first time she either
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: had time to come or like it again, we don't
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: even know what the time difference is. So it's like,
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: Did he push it and it's been extra years before
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: it really signaled there? And how long did it take?
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: So obviously she gets back immediately almost, but the time
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: has got to be kind of weird anyway, because once again,
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: she doesn't age. So is that part of her superpower
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: or is it because she is in time and space
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: and all that's weird?
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: She made adjustments to that pager. I think maybe she
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: would get it automatically.
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: She somehow made a pay phone and a game boy.
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: Contact people in another galaxy. Dude, didn't you see War Games?
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: It's just like War Games. And then somehow the operators
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: still worked on that. I was just like, I'm too grown.
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: to accept this scene. How in the world is the
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: operator involved in her Game Boy Payphone mod project? You're
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: just mad because you never did this with your Game Boy.
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: If I was a kid, I guess this would all
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: make sense. You'd be busting up your Game Boy. In
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: my head, I'm like, well, it's got a good sound chip,
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: but what in the world are you using otherwise from
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: the Game Boy to like.
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: So not to flip, because same, kind of not same,
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: because we didn't talk so much about guardians like cheer
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: about suicide squad getting idris elba for deadshot so james
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: gunn is directing the next suicide squad he's directing the
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: next suicide squad that i'm okay with but robbie is
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: still confirmed for holly quinn but everyone else is sort
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: of like it's up in the air right now but
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: apparently nobody else mattered really apparently will smith was like
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: i'm not doing it it was the harley and deadshot
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: movie basically i mean but it's confirmed Idris Elba is
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: dead shot. And there's a part of me, it's like,
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: with James Gunn directing it now too, this next Suicide
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: Squad movie might be really, really good. I'm okay with
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: that idea.
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: It is weird changing that.
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: Like what?
- 1:52:44Speaker 6: Will just took enough heat off of it, he didn't
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: want to come back?
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: I don't think he was happy with.
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: Because I feel like, again, he had the best moments
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: most of the time. So it's like, you could have
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: taken that and turned it into your own series and
- 1:52:57Speaker 6: done really cool stuff.
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: And then... I think it also... in my head, hints
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: in a tonal difference too. I'm not saying Idris Elba
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: can't be charming and snarky, but compared to Will Smith,
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: I think this is a very different dead shot. Definitely.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: So I'm wondering if it'll be not gritty dark, but
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: not as light. Yeah, serious. Suicide Squad went for comedy.
- 1:53:20Speaker 5: They were just straight up like, we don't know if
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: people are going to watch this, so let's just have
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: a lot of humor in it. But I think, I
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: don't know. I mean, the first two Guardians movies are
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: fantastic in my point of view. I think James Gunn,
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: it feels like the same formula. Ragtag group of people.
- 1:53:35Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: Why can't he do it again? And if you got
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: Margot Robbie and Idris Elba so far, you have capable people.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: That's the cast you need, yeah. I would not recast
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: Captain Boomerang. I think that dude was good. There was
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: some of the casting I think could be redo. He
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: just did everything to do.
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: But he was all right.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: And I bet James Gunn wants to prove That he
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: can take anything and make it amazing.
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: He's like, yeah, you cut me out of my series.
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: He's going to stick at the Disney. I still wonder
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: if Dave Bautista will end up in there somehow. Because
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: apparently he's still not agreed to do the Guardians third movie.
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: I think he's still that one person that's like, if
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: Gunn's not involved, I'm not doing it.
- 1:54:14Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: So I could almost see him being like, come here
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: and be KG. Oh, I'm forgetting their name. There's some
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: bad guys in the DC universe. He could definitely be
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: in a Suicide Squad. So I kind of wonder if
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: that'll happen too.
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: In referencing the Guardians, that is something that I've heard
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: in the last couple of days that I'm like, that
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: is kind of weird when, because again, like obviously Earth,
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: we were dumb. We don't know what's going on. But
- 1:54:39Speaker 6: when you get into the bigger space universe, like, why
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: does nobody else seem to know about Captain Marvel?
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: Like, if she's, like, flying around the universe saving civilizations, like.
- 1:54:50Speaker 6: Wouldn't, like, Star-Lord or, like, Gamora.
- 1:54:53Speaker 8: Know about it?
- 1:54:53Speaker 5: You know, there's a part of me that's thinking, even, like,
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: after the first Guardians, when they destroyed Ronan the Accuser,
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: it seems like Not that her mission's done, but if
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: he was kind of like the big bad at a Kree,
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: and you killed him back in that first Guardians, didn't
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: that make her job easier? Or maybe she'd be about
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: time to wrap it up and come back like, hey,
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: I'm done. I'm going to visit Furies.
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: Shake your hand.
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: Good going. I've been annoyed by that guy for a while. Yeah,
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: because you think about it, she didn't even beat him.
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: That's kind of.
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: Which, and again, with their little comment, is there a
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: middle story that we're going to jump to at some point?
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: Maybe a movie of her whipping trees? Because he wants
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: to get that weapon, which is her. So is that
- 1:55:31Speaker 6: a side plot somewhere down the line?
- 1:55:33Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: Maybe they fight. She whips his ass. He runs and
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: he realizes, I can't beat her without a stone.
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: And that's why, again, that's why by the end of Guardians,
- 1:55:42Speaker 6: he's so desperate. dead set on getting the stone for
- 1:55:45Speaker 6: himself and not Thanos because he's seen what it can create.
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: He's seen how powerful she is in the end of
- 1:55:52Speaker 6: this movie and is just like, oh, I want that.
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: Screw Thanos. I want that for me. Willing to destroy
- 1:55:58Speaker 6: himself in the process.
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: Now I'm just like shotgunning. Did you see the trailer
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: for the Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix? There is an
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: actual trailer.
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: Not yet.
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: I'm so conflicted It looks like they're doing the Killing Joke. Like,
- 1:56:17Speaker 5: if you haven't read the Killing Joke comic, it's a
- 1:56:19Speaker 5: big deal. It was like the first time anyone was
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: allowed to do an origin for Joker. And Alan Moore
- 1:56:25Speaker 5: took it and ran with it. But it looks like that.
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: There's shots where it looks like he's walking around a
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: chemical factory, where he's trying to be a stand-up comedian.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: It looks like it's going to be a Killing Joke movie,
- 1:56:38Speaker 5: you know, under... It's not under the guise because it's
- 1:56:41Speaker 5: called Joker. But the fact that there is, even though
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: you can tell it's all the first half an hour
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: of the movie, the tone of it and stuff was
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: enough where I was like, maybe Joaquin Phoenix is going
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: to be an awesome Joker. Because it's so realistic.
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: He's a hell of an actor, period. He's a weirdo.
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: But that can work in your favor when you're committing
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: that hardcore to a role. It feels very real. You know,
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: like I was saying earlier about how, like, you know,
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: when real actors have to, like, you know, act in
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: a comic movie, this feels like it's going, well, fuck
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: the comic actor way. Let's just have them act real. Like,
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: this is how a real person would act in a situation.
- 1:57:18Speaker 5: That's how the trailer came off to me. Like, they
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: were going, no, let's do a really serious, not serious
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: as in, like, I mean, the Joker in it. It's
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: not serious. But, you know, tonally serious movie about this subject.
- 1:57:32Speaker 6: So, I mean, that's definitely the Dark Knight approach. Like,
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: he feels as realistic.
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: As you can make that.
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: It's just a crazy sociopath.
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: Like.
- 1:57:41Speaker 6: It's not any. You don't have to worry about how
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: he got his crazy skin. And his funny jokes.
- 1:57:46Speaker 15: And like.
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: It's just. This man is insane.
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: And.
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:57:50Speaker 14: So like.
- 1:57:51Speaker 6: You can do that kind of stuff. And have it
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: still kind of work.
- 1:57:54Speaker 7: So. I guess we will see.
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:57Speaker 15: I would.
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: I would have been picking that on YouTube. Like I said.
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: It's only like. A minute and a half. It's not
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: like the kind of trailer.
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: It's like.
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: Covers a movie. You can tell. It's just like. A
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: character on him. It's just. the shots they have of
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: him so far with you know, some monologues and stuff.
- 1:58:11Speaker 5: But it was, there was enough shots in the background.
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: I was like, that's killing joke. Or at least you
- 1:58:16Speaker 5: want us to believe it's killing joke. Like you're showing him,
- 1:58:18Speaker 5: you know, you can see some before and after. And
- 1:58:21Speaker 5: you're like, well, that's him before he went crazy. And
- 1:58:23Speaker 5: that's him after crazy. There's a chemical factory. And there's
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: him being, like I said, a standup comedian. You're like,
- 1:58:28Speaker 5: this is killing joke. Hmm.
- 1:58:30Speaker 6: More things to look forward to.
- 1:58:34Speaker 7: Or not.
- 1:58:36Speaker 5: How would you compare Captain Marvel to Wonder Woman? Since
- 1:58:40Speaker 5: that's what everyone on the internet is doing. It's funny
- 1:58:42Speaker 5: because that did not occur to me. The woman movie
- 1:58:44Speaker 5: versus the woman movie. It didn't even occur to me.
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: I guess because they're such different universes.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: It's like Wonder Woman was not socialized in a society
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: of men anyway, so it's like Her woman empowerment movie
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: is like this idealized you grow up as a powerful woman.
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: You always were a powerful woman.
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: You're going to be a powerful woman. That's the only
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: thing you know. Every woman you know is powerful.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: To me, Wonder Woman isn't really even an empowering movie.
- 1:59:14Speaker 6: I think it will be more interesting looking at the
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: next one because the next one is her in normal society.
- 1:59:20Speaker 6: It's a jump forward in time closer.
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: To the 90s.
- 1:59:24Speaker 6: It seems like this next one is going to be
- 1:59:26Speaker 6: a little closer in concept to what's going on in
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: Captain Marvel.
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: It's like, it's not the same time period.
- 1:59:33Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: Wonder Woman is fucking like, sorry, like not human. Like
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: all this stuff is like, why would you even compare
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: the two? It's like, there's, they have almost nothing to
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: do with each other except that. I mean, and yeah,
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: like Captain Marvel gets her powers and Wonder Woman has them.
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: I don't know. and she's like oh ladies and she's
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: like no there's like no similarities almost to me.
- 2:00:04Speaker 5: Yeah I think it was just more in that the
- 2:00:08Speaker 5: idea like people look at it as like well this
- 2:00:10Speaker 5: is DC's woman led movie and this is Marvel's woman
- 2:00:13Speaker 5: led movie I.
- 2:00:13Speaker 14: Mean I guess the only interesting way to look at
- 2:00:17Speaker 14: it is box office and the fact that both of
- 2:00:19Speaker 14: them made a ton of money to me is the
- 2:00:21Speaker 14: most promising thing like It's not a deterrent, which is
- 2:00:25Speaker 14: the way studios.
- 2:00:25Speaker 5: Have probably built it up for years. That goes back
- 2:00:27Speaker 5: to the whole DC Marvel thing in general, that people
- 2:00:30Speaker 5: act like if you like Marvel, you can't like the
- 2:00:32Speaker 5: DC movies, and vice versa. It's like, I like them all.
- 2:00:34Speaker 5: If you just make good ones, we'll like them. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: Like Wonder Woman, so make more like Wonder Woman. I
- 2:00:39Speaker 5: discriminate against bad comic movies. No, I don't care who
- 2:00:41Speaker 5: makes it. It's not good if it's bad. Just make
- 2:00:44Speaker 5: good ones.
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: Just make less Justice League, more Wonder Woman.
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: I mean, I liked Wonder Woman's... she gets introduced to
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: regular society and she has the whole naive whatever trope.
- 2:00:58Speaker 6: Where she has to learn.
- 2:01:00Speaker 5: Fish out of water. Comedy.
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: Of learning how to be a woman in this setting.
- 2:01:06Speaker 5: Pretending to be the way you have to be in
- 2:01:09Speaker 5: this society.
- 2:01:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:01:10Speaker 7: Kind of bullshit.
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: Whereas it's completely integrated in Captain Marvel.
- 2:01:17Speaker 4: Alright.
- 2:01:19Speaker 6: Any Final thoughts as we move forward. Are we ready
- 2:01:22Speaker 6: to at least occasionally come back and do more superheroes?
- 2:01:26Speaker 5: We've had our break. What's the next one?
- 2:01:28Speaker 6: Spider-Man next?
- 2:01:29Speaker 5: Avengers. Avengers is next, right?
- 2:01:31Speaker 6: It's next.
- 2:01:32Speaker 5: Well, Shazam, technically.
- 2:01:33Speaker 6: Yeah, Shazam, but I don't know if I'm ready for that.
- 2:01:37Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm going to see that one
- 2:01:38Speaker 5: in theaters.
- 2:01:39Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:01:40Speaker 5: I think that I'm... It looks fun, but yeah. I
- 2:01:43Speaker 5: think it'll be great for kids. It's not like calling
- 2:01:47Speaker 5: me to the theater at this point. But, you know,
- 2:01:51Speaker 5: it could be worth it.
- 2:01:52Speaker 7: We'll see.
- 2:01:55Speaker 16: All right.
- 2:01:56Speaker 7: Well, I'm glad we're back in Captain Marvel's cool. She
- 2:01:59Speaker 7: has gorgeous bouncy hair.
- 2:02:01Speaker 5: I can't wait to see her act with other people.
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: I can't believe her hair is like that after like
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: traveling at light speed. It's like she'd be all frizzy
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: and messed up.
- 2:02:08Speaker 5: That's how super she is. Her hair holds its shape
- 2:02:12Speaker 5: and it's bouncing. It's that futuristic conditioner technology.
- 2:02:17Speaker 7: That was also in the Tesseract.
- 2:02:19Speaker 11: That.
- 2:02:19Speaker 6: Most of it.
- 2:02:20Speaker 5: Anti-gravity moisturizer. The center core is a stone and then
- 2:02:23Speaker 5: the entire rest of the cube is just conditioner. Keeps
- 2:02:27Speaker 5: moisture vacuum sealed.
- 2:02:31Speaker 15: All right.
- 2:02:32Speaker 5: Otherwise, that about does it.
- 2:02:32Speaker 6: We will return next time.
- 2:02:33Speaker 7: Same Geek Feed. Thanks for listening.
- 2:02:36Speaker 15: Take this pink ribbon off my eyes. I'm exposed.
- 2:02:41Speaker 5: It's no big surprise.
- 2:02:45Speaker 15: Don't you think I know exactly where I stand? The
- 2:02:50Speaker 15: world is forcing me to hold your hand Cause I'm
- 2:02:55Speaker 15: just a girl.
- 2:02:56Speaker 13: Little old me Well, don't let me out of your
- 2:03:02Speaker 13: sight Oh, I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
- 2:03:09Speaker 13: So don't let me have any rights.
- 2:03:13Speaker 15: Oh, oh That I step outside So many reasons for
- 2:03:40Speaker 15: me to run and hide Can't do the little things.
- 2:03:45Speaker 5: I hold so dear It's.
- 2:03:48Speaker 13: All those little things.
- 2:03:50Speaker 5: That I fear I'm.
- 2:03:54Speaker 15: Just a girl, guess I'm some kind of freak Cause
- 2:03:58Speaker 15: they all sit and stare with their eyes Oh, I'm
- 2:04:04Speaker 15: just a girl.
- 2:04:05Speaker 5: Take a good look at me.
- 2:04:08Speaker 13: Just your typical prototype.
- 2:04:38Speaker 15: I'm just a girl in the world.
- 2:04:43Speaker 13: I'm just a girl.
- 2:04:47Speaker 15: That's all that you'll let me.
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: Look at him holding his little stuffed animal. Look at him.
- 2:05:18Speaker 6: It's so cute.
